Weather is good now with a slight breeze. Its funny how these girls have no longevity at the bars, I guess once everyone has banged them they are done in one place. Josey, formerly of BB is the only vet from the old days still around. She is still working her spot at New Gardens. The beach was dead yesterday but I still chilled at my spot with Kobe bringing Margaritas. Christina who used to work the booth at Classicos down stairs is no longer at Dlatins but I saw her at her new bar. The girl with the mole at Merengue is still there looking good. Damn! My Uncles just showed up so we headed to BB and FOD with the older crew.

Peace

Checked out the shop several times. Chica not around. Manager finally got in touch with Kelly. Chica is having transportation amd $ issues. Oh boy.

Decided to walk around the area. Ran into a taxi stand which I need for an early Monday morning ride to Caribe bus station An engaging dude named Mike was around. Assured me

Brother with a car could pick me up.

Casino was closed. Showed me the new hotel called the Victorian. Very nice with a good view of the bay. Interested in possible boat ride which Mike gave me a card. Walked down to the boat launching area and spoke to the boat people. Rates seem good but will wait when more friends arrive to negotiate a better deal.

While walking back, Mike mentioned a place 20 minutes by motocoach with chicas called Loma Bojita. 2000 pesos for 3 hours. Shall wait for friend before checking out. Supposedly no gringos. Mike said he could even bring a chica to me. These guys hustle and entertain simultaneously.

Ran into a slim cutie called Sol right by the hotel. Limited English but got tel. 22 yo. Probably part of the union.

Take Rosa back to the room. Negotiated 1000 pesos for one hr plus 2 pops. Drink beers first. Back to the room. No real kissing. No condom BJ. Wants to fuck. Keep putting off. Finally she goes on top. Good rider. Uses her legs very well to contract her pussy. I will not cum due to multiple early pops and alcohol. She is trying her best.

21 why / o with 2 kids. Amazing body for 2 kids. Working the strip for 3 years. Forced to relief myself after maybe 30 minutes. Chica wants to leave. Told her about the deal and will pay her only 500 pesos. Unhappy. Stalemate arises with both sides threatening security and polica. She mentions if policia comes she will say I owe her 3000 pesos.

She requires closed monitoring since she could use the beer bottle as a weapon. Continually repeats,"Pay me my Money" "Do you want me to leave? Searches for hostage items. Finds none (thanks guys for the tips). Chica eventually starts crying. Comfort her and say if you give me BJ with condon I will pay you the remaining 500 pesos. She is unhappy but complies. She tells me not to touch her. While putting on the condom I drop it somewhere (it was purely accidental). She says okay. Starts providing a decent HJ and bareback BJ. Goes over the 5 minute mark. No leche. Start relieving myself which she assists by fondling my balls. Pay her the 500 pesos and she leaves. Power and pride both at work.

These chicas have basically formed a union that means no GFE, optional bjs, no kissing and quickly get you off as quickly as possible with one pop for 1000. 2000 pesos. Too many mongers are cumming to quickly and overpaying!

United we stand Mongers against the unionization of putas! There is no putas' union.

You struck a one-sided bargain with a chica and did not fulfil your side of the deal by coming two times in an hour, even though she performed sexually perfectly well, so you ended up having to wank yourself off.

Now why was this?

Wants to fuck. Keep putting off.OK, you engaged her for one hour to get you off two times, so a tight schedule, but you do not want to fuck. Huh? Isn't that what was implied in your agreement with her?

Finally she goes on top. Good rider. Uses her legs very well to contract her pussy. I will not cum due to multiple early pops and alcohol. She is trying her best.OK, so you do not come and it is not because she is not doing what she was hired to do, but because of:

I will not cum due to multiple early pops and alcohol. So actually you entered this rather one-sided contract with her on false pretences, because you should have known you could not come two times in an hour, or even perhaps one time, by means of normal sex with a condom, the reason being "multiple earlier pops and alcohol" that you could not possibly hold her responsible for. (If you were taking Viagra you could add that to the list, but perhaps you were not, so we'll give you the benefit of the doubt there.)

Since you were unable to complete your side of the contract, at this point you should have paid her off early, possibly with an additional propina of 500 pesos as liquidated damages for non performance of contract, and sent her on her way, thus avoiding a distressing scene as described above. You should then have chalked it up to experience and vowed to do better in the future.

Here are some tips:

1. Don't "negotiate" a one-sided contract that you cannot fulfill. Whatever deal you strike, tryo to make it a win-win situation, possibly with a bonus for good performance to be added to the base price if she keeps up her end of the deal.

2. Don't strike deals for "toda la noche" with chicas who you do not know or if you don't know whether they really want to spend the night with you. It is usually asking for trouble. If you do agree to meet a chica at a certain time, do not unilaterally renege on the agreement and go with another chica as no good can come of it and do not be surprised if she goes around speaking ill of you. Yes, she may be a no-show too, but she is a puta and you are not.

3. Do not negotiate with chicas via intermediaries or pimps. It will invariably end in tears, as you found out already.

4. 1000 pesos may sound like a large number to you, but it really is not a lot of money and is worth less than $25, so don't expect too much. Go to a local supermarket or pharmacy and see what you can get for 1000 pesos. Hint: not much, for example three boxes of Kellogg's Cornflakes.

5. Don't go pussy-mad in Sosua and try to bite off more than you can chew.

6. Read the fucking forum, but do not pay too much attention to posters who claim to have paid a chica 500 pesos for an entire week of sex and she followed them to the airport crying. It is probably not the whole story.

7. Do not see yourself as a missionary sent to bring Dominicans the gospel of punctuality or imaginary union-busting or some other philosophical deviation.

Now pay attention and enjoy the rest of your vacation. You can have a great time in Sosua IF you play your cards right, and don't miss the teleferico in Puerto Plata, but go up on a clear day when the crest of the mountain is sunny.

I'm not especially attracted to black women. I mean the women here are somewhat mixed, but I'm not in Santiago.

Anyhoo, was introduced to a chick yesterday. Hung out today. Not a prostitute per se.

First and second time, she wouldn't let my finger in her ass. Third time, tonight, I just slid it in without asking and she didn't protest.

I'm still not sure if she likes me or just wants money. She doesn't smile and looks bored as fuck.Probably she just likes you playing doctors and nurses.

Some agreement and disagreement.

Boy, you sure have mucho time.

BTW she stopped after around 30 minutes with one pop. No big deal at the end of the day. Some of your points are insightful others are like you are god.

First of all thank you very much for the reply. I think it is very important to never show any signs of weakness by not being evasive etc. An example is a chick I was seeing for a couple of days tried to put the guilt thing on me like I had promised her something else. The thing that gets to me is when they girls say you like mucho chicas. I always tell them you are a prostitute you like mucho chicos. Then they tell you well I have to do this. I tell them your ass can sell fruit or get a job you do not have to. I think that that my problem has been like many guys, American Men are too nice which is a weakness in the Dominican Republic. Many Dominicans IMO see generosity and too much kindness as a weakness.

The bottom line is exactly what you said "Bottom line, how you carry yourself may be the crux of why you are getting stalked" I will take your constructive criticism to heart. Thank you.The plus side about the Dominican Republic is that you can have paid sex or a paid relationship with an attractive young woman in such a way that it does not seem like prostitution, more like a relationship or casual recreational sex. If you have ever hooked up with a prostitute in the US or the UK via backpage. Com or similar, you will immediately understand the difference.

The down side of the Dominican Republic is that if you are looking for the kind of impersonal sexual encounter where you get your orgasm and go, then there are probably lots of much better places to find what you are looking for.

The dialogue quoted above sounds authentic, but I think what they say is true, that many of the girls do sex for money to make a living, not for sexual enjoyment (though some may develop a taste for the caresses of strange men.)

You can really relate to people on two (or possible more) levels. On the one hand it can just be the immediate sensation of sexual lust and the desire for that body touching yours, and on the other hand it can be more of a postmodern detachment as in: "Well here we are with our bodies meshing in perfect unison, but who are we both, why are we doing this, and what has happened in both our lives that has led to this momentary union and moment of ecstasy?"

In Western societies sex is inextricably linked with things like love and affection and you really can't expect chicas to have graduate degrees in existential philosophy, so they may easily confuse sex with affection and make statements that seem inappropriate to you, but make sense in their terms.

I don't quite get the two pops requirement, especially if he already knows that he will not be able to fulfill his part of the deal within reasonable period of time. After all its business first! If the fellow is into sports / numbers fucking he will run out juice before he knows it-Viagra or not.

Finally met up with chica.

Biggest tits ever. Very firm. Good face with average curves.

Sat next door at a restaurant to negotiate services. Seeking an overnight with next day tour of Puerto Plata sights. Only wants cash.

My opening offer was 2000 (only a ploy). She countered with 7000. Declined. She reoffers 6000 then 5000 then 4500. All of which includes unlimited sexo. She wanted 2 times with unlimited massage. Countered the massage was unimportant.

As she was eating, proposed the following: 1000 pesos at night. 1000 pesos in the morning and 2000 after tour and return to Sosua. She agreed but told her she could change her mind later. Maybe only tour guide was continually proposed by me which could happen. She kind of frowned about that. The sleepover also insures an early start since she may not be able to reach Sosua in a timely manner (time matters since time is limited). Also she must pay 500 (said she will take from her received cash) to the firm for time off.

Right after, there was an obligation to get a massage since I was inquiring with her manager about her whereabouts. Very good deep tissue massage. Much better than Rosie. 400 pesos for 30 minutes.

Unsure how this falls. Nonetheless plan to only drink water tonight and sleep early if this proposal fails to occur.

I have 2 rules that I won't comprise on. 1) no condom for BJ and 2) never pay upfront. This is a tried and true approach. You always have to be ready to launch any girl who won't comply.

on my last trip, about 90% of the girls wanted to use a condom for the bjs. i had standoffs with a number of the girls over this. i explained that they could either get to sucking or they could bounce with no money.i have almost never had the condom / blowjob problem and in fact have found that bareback intercourse was also often a possibility, though something that should be entered into (ouch!) with great care and forethought. i think the tendency to insist on a condom for oral sex is more to do with venereal disease public health workers who move among the prostitute population, than anything to do with a mythical union.

interesting article here that doesn't directly address the dr but discusses public health initiatives involving prostitutes in a wide number of countries popular with isg readers.

http://www.nccid.ca/files/interventions_for_prevention_of_hiv_among_fsw_eng.pdf

i doubt that oral sex plays much part in transmitting hiv, but my own feeling is that one ought to respect and encourage the right of sex workers to make their own decisions about practices that could affect their health, so rather than get into arguments, just bypass those who don't provide what you are looking for and look for those who are prepared to give you what you want willingly.

does anyone really think that getting a bareback blow job from a chica who doesn't want to do it is going to provide a memorable experience? on the contrary, trying to insist on a chica doing something she is not comfortable with is just going to lead to one of those conflict situations that we read so much about.

note: the article mentions "peer-based" intervention programs for prevention of transmission of diseases. these may exist in the dr, but i would not class that the same as a "chicas union".

this is also interesting and hints at what i mentioned above:

For some reason, bareback bjs are not an issue in Sousa but in SD.

Another problem is too many mongers caving into chicas attempt short changing and believing fake tears. Putas are great actresses.

Too many pussies.

We got to used passenger van from faith Auto Rental $60. Headed to the Sosua about 3 o'clock arrived at 7 that's including two stops. It was 8 of us. Myself justice, E, T, Don and 3 newbies. Arrived in Sosua and the place was packed Even hotel Europa (my go to hotel) was out of rooms. We had to split up 3 motels. City lights, Case Angela and no name Hotel next city lights. The newbies and T went to the no name Hotel. City lights and casa Angelo did not have security that wasn't good for the new guys, the rest of us could handle a situation. Once we get everyone situated we hit the scene. After being over charged and being hipped to the game in Boca Chica, Sosua was a cake walk for the new guys. Hit the club and it was packed a lot of new faces at my disposal. I immediately ran into two of my regulars that had What's Up me to death prior to me coming. They both were occupied with customers and that gave me a break. I can always use that later in my defense if I don't get with them.

I was on a hunt looking for that special new new. This time it only took her 2 hours find me. Medium brown skinned Hispanic with braces. About 5ft 5in 135 slender waste in a nice firm ass. I was still weighing my options, but when she said she was a Gemini it peaked my interest. I asked her what day and she said the 8th. What fucking luck! My birthday. What are the possibilities. I told her she is definitely on with me and we are going to have a good time. There was no need for us to talk about how much money she was a vet to the game and she could tell I was too. It was about 230 in the morning and we made the move to my room. The vibe was great between us she spoke to me in broken English and I spoke back to her in my beginning Spanish. We used my computer to facebook friend request each other and sure enough her birthday was posted June 8 1979. Once she took off that dress and I seen the phat ass camel toe; I knew it was going to be a night to remember. I was taking off the gloves with her. I told her I need for her to do one thing for me. Take this little test for me and we will be straight. That's when the problem occurred. She had a problem taking the test. I opened it and she became apprehensive. She seem to understand well what the test was for. She told me she wants to be home alone when she takes. I told her I just wanted to make sure she was not sick so we can enjoy all night. She flat out refused to take the test and got dressed. Man I was so hurt and confused. She asked me to walk her out. Things were going so fast I couldn't control the situation. I started to pull her back and say fuck it we'll just use a condom, but due to her reactions, my conscience wouldn't allow me to do it. I walked her out to the street and ran back into get money for a motor scooter trying to show her some respect. When I came out she was gone.

Now I'm headed to the club by myself and its 430 in the morning and I need to release some frustration. There were some very sexy chicas at After One. But my instincts told me that a session with them would be too mechanical. I almost choose a facially unattractive Haitian with the body of a Miami Stripper Goddess. Her face was just too hard for me. She look like she was going to freak me to death. She kept sticking her tongue out at me like she would lick my asshole clean. Though I'm not really into that I will put her on my to do list later. It took about 30 minutes for the next chica to find me. I was standing in the bathroom area where you capable of looking outside. She was really trying to get my attention asking me to come to her. I told her if she wanted to talk to me she's going to have to come inside. She went ahead and gave up a hundred pesos to come inside. When she came in I gave it back to her. She was about a 24 year old Dominican light skin slender waist and some perky DD's. Her hair wasn't really up to par but I could work with it. She asked me if I wanted her to spend the night with me. I told her I never want a woman to spend the night with me unless I can trust her. We get back to my room it was no need for a test. I like her enthusiasm but there was no super freaking going on. She asked me did I smoke I totally yeah but I didn't have nothing on me. She reaches her bra and pulled out a $5 sack of weed. Then she reached in her bra and pulled out a small sack of cocaine. She asked me did I do coke. No mami strictly natural para mi. Then she went on trying to convince me that she doesn't do coke every day maybe two or three times a week. I said to myself I've heard it all before. I told her I don't judge her for doing her thing. She said good- weed is for me- to the coke is for her. I realized I had nothing to roll it with. She then pulled out a cigarette, took all the tobacco out of it and stuffed it with weed. Primitive, but I can work with it. She went to light it up and I had to stop her- not right here. I didn't want my room to smell like weed. As I was walking her to the pool area, The owner's wife came out and smell the weed in the air. She looked at me and told me as if knew better. That kind of embarrassed me. I later came back and apologize. I told her I was walking her to the pool area when she all of a sudden lit up. The cigarette filter was annoying so I broke it off and smoke it like that. Honestly it was weak stuff but it was free. She did me justice on the sex. I asked if I could CIM."Just say when Poppy" was music to my ears. She gave me her number, I gave her 1500 and dress. She said if I needed some weed to call her. That was not going to happen I'd rather just wait until I'm back in the USA before I deal with that.

Walked around again. Chicas everywhere. A nice puta called Bella wanted 3000 pesos. Claims she earns 6000 pesos per nite.

Discovered another tall thin cutie from SD named Caroline. Got her down to 1000 pesos. Backup plan. Endless chicas. Amazing place.

While walking around the casino found Pier Fiorgio Hotel. Spectacularly carved along the cliffs. Similar looking to what you would find on the coast lines in Italy. Hotel was empty. According to the travel desk guy it is usually empty. Told the sunset is beautiful.

Sousa does have nice quiet area adjacent to the Mania. Appears the Mania is well maintained by the policia.

Am in Sosua at the moment, arrived on Tuesday. Really surprised how lively the place is compared to when I was last here in September 2011. Then, the selection of chicas was poor and the weather was far too hot. Now it's like a turkey shoot where the chicas are concerned and the weather is much nicer. There are also way more curvy tits and ass type's around, more my type! Last night pulled a 20 year old beautiful curvy chick from Santiago with a huge rack out of D' Latins, said I was her first customer in Sosua, but who knows if that was the truth? Quoted me 1500 pesos which I found very reasonable. A gorgeous chick like her in Europe would cost $$$$. Anyway, she was great and very easygoing with me, so gave her 2000 total, just because I felt like it. Tonight, I'm not even going out, which might sound crazy, but since I will be around for the next 2 weeks, and I'm feeling tired tonight, who cares! I can afford to be lazy in this place, there are so many chicks around I can have one whenever I like, just like a Presidente!

About Sosua, there are several new restaurants and bars around since I was last here, the motoconchos seem to be hassling me less, probably because there is more business around now for them, but also because I have perfected the art of ignoring them. I also have the feeling there are less white guys around than before, or maybe that's just my imagination? There also seem to be groups of some of the better looking chicks who tend to wander from bar to bar at night, apparently more interested in themselves than getting clients, or that's the impression they give anyway. There is one chick, who when I first saw her on Tuesday I was dying to get my hands on, but after having witnessed her behaviour since then, ignoring most guys including me, I have no interest in now. Well who cares, there are so many others!

Well who cares, there are so many othersQUOTE]

Now that's how you enjoy a vacation Footloose and carefree. Good vibes dude!

Shamester, I did not mean to sound so critical. You are obviously having a great time. I enjoy your posts and keep up the good reporting. Looking forward to returning in couple of months. No worries. Many posters like information and observations. Attempt to keep posts realistic in order for nebies like myself to have an idea of the happenings. Prior to this trip, the board provided me with mucho informative tips.

first, the moto coaches are not an issue. often times they honk and majority are good drivers. easy to hear and see. imo the bigger problem are the tourists on the bikes acting like they do not need to follow rules. wannabe gangsta ny thugs are much more dangerous.

second, security is a non issue. never once felt threatened or scared by any type of potential crime in sd or sosua. walked numerous places. nonetheless normal common sense and following monger's tips should never be overlooked. enjoy and do not be scared.

third, sosua is a sport fucking place. wham bam thank you man. adjust your expectations. others can chime in but those are the people that either live in the area or stay over an extended period and speak good spanish. for short timers. accept your fate.

last night decided to pass on the big titted massage therapist. too wishy washy and unreliable. she texted that everything is okay and what happened. texted back saying decided to go with other options and she was being disrespectful with body language and attitude. ciao baby!

returned to the strip. for some reason thursday night was not as good as wednesday. still lots of hot chicas. decided will only pay 1000 pesos. no alcohol helps to see situations better and saves $. called a slim hottie named caroline from sd. met up and walked back to my hotel. she would only go for 1500 pesos. said the 1000 price is disrespectful. adios.

returned to the strip. attempted to find some 1000 chicas. no luck. saw a petite smiley curvy chica. her name was yaritza. no cell phone. she easily agreed to 1000 pesos, french kissing and sin condom bj. started off with good kissing. of course needed to get to my cock asap. good bj with great effort from multiple positions. nice big soft lips. mentally decided i would stay strong and not cum. probably after around 15 minutes, i decided to put on a condom for cowgirl. good ride. more bjs and fucking eventually cumming. sucked and fondled the sack as well. decent.

returned to the strip. ran into caroline again. she said lets go for 1000 pesos. told her manyana. looked startled. ran into my boy jimmy. took me to a local place for food. showed me a 500pesos chica at the stand. in the future, may get one for jimmy and one for me at 500 pesos.

returned to hotel. couple of chicas hanging around the bar talking with a fellow hotel guest. drunk chicas trying to get customers were lurking around. it is entertaining but can get old quickly.

Yes sir. Never paying upfront does provide greater leverage.

For some reason, bareback bjs are not an issue in Sousa.

Another problem is too many mongers caving into chicas attempt short changing and believing fake tears. Putas are great actresses.

Too many pussies.I agree with all said in this quote.

Well who cares, there are so many others! This is the great thing about this place if one snubs you they are one better than her waiting for you and not far away.

You need them and they need you it is a great thing and as life will have it sometimes you meet some real jewels that will make you very happy and will make you some life long memories. This place is not for every one but if you have been sex deprived and need relief this town will do it. If you have a little street sense you can have the time of your life for cheap with ladies better than you could ever have at home. For me these ladies are for the most part way more wholesome than any prostitute I could find around my home town.

Saturday we went to the beach. Another nice day at the beach plenty of chicas walking around. I'm starting to like Sosua beach or maybe it's the dominoes game. They always welcomed me to play. It's a central place to see all the young chicas. I ran into one of my regulars. Must have been a pretty good week for her. She was treating herself to lunch and offered to buy me a El Presidente. I used my you were busy last night card on her. She asked me can she be with me tonight. She and I are on Facebook and what's up. She keeps in contact with me and never came at me with bullshit. We never talk price she accepts what I give her. Usually about 2000 pesos and a nice dress of her choice. Yes we are on for the night. Damn her body was tight and as I recalled she has grade A skills. I end up hooking up with a massage chica for an afternoon snack. She Introduced herself to me Friday and I was impressed on how she carried herself. I met her on the outside of a hair salon on the strip. I seen her friend several times during the course of the day and every time I inquired about her- she's always giving a massage so her friend says. I'm thinking this young lady must really handle her business. I finally caught up with her and made a 1500 pesos deal. Pretty decent massage even better session. She offered everything to me. I pass on that greek stuff. She made sure that condom was full before she granted my request to stop. I came so hard I thought the condom was going to slip off. I can tell her body had to be in in a few good sessions prior to coming over. I didn't mind I guess she's a good saleswoman. When I offered her a dress of her choosing. She had a hard time making up are mine but decided on one. No begging or asking for more than was offered to her. I gave her another dress. Mi gusta su estilo. Later on that day I ran into Maoli and her sister Isabel. Maoli is T's go to girl. Maoli is showing off the brand new iphone T has bought her. T state income tax hit and he was basking in his newfound wealth. He claims she taxed him because last time he didn't give her any money in the three days they were together. Yeah right he must think we are fools. Maoli and Isabel are both young and sexy. But they are the Dominican version hood bitches. They said at one time they were making between $1500 and $2000 week us. T had to go to the police department and get Maoli because she had a problem with a customer. He wasn't happy with the service and said she stole money from him. He admitted they agreed to 2500. He said he spun over 2500 pesos in food, drinks, etc. After the session; he gave her 1500. She snatched his money, took another 1000 pesos, and gave back the rest. The police sergeant said he would charge both of them and let Judge sorted it out. No one wants to spend a vacation and a Dominican courtroom. They agreed to let her have the 2500 as agreed.

Maoli sister Isabel is upset with me because I don't want to deal with her anymore. She wasted time convincing me I should overlook the fact that she came to my room to have a session with T. The new guys we're giving her the goo goo eyes. They will easily pay her 2500 to 3000 pesos for that body but she's not paying attention. I can't believe she actually thought my feelings were hurt. If you know the GAMES these chicas play you can outsmart them every day of the week. Maoli tried to convince me that her sister apologize to her in tears for having sex with T and she forgave her. I told her the only way I can forgive her sister is if she (Maoli) fucks me for free. I told her I bet she fucks better than her sister. She hesitated for a second and then said "for free? '. I know she was with it. She wants to see what her sister likes. Typical hood bitches but I like them because I understand them. Saturday night was off the chain. It rained for 9:30 until about 1am. I love it when that happens because when it stop- the chicas hit the street like hungry ants all at once. (so do the guys). I would say the ratio was 2 to 1. Guys were in the club actually making it rain with 50 pesos bills. Every 20 to 30 minutes about $10 worth of pesos was thrown in the air. The chicas were going crazy. A lot of Dominican guys were to. They hung around that group like vultures. I had to move my position on the other side of the club. The place was so packed it was barely room to move.

As promised I went with my regular. She is battle tested. It was about 2:00am club was going to close in 60 minutes. No need to stay until the club close. I must say my regular turn down a few customers. I've seen a couple of guys enquiring however she stayed committed to our appointment. On a side note I've seen maybe 8 girls I've had sex with. I can honestly say at least 4 of them have put on at least 10 or more pounds within the last 3 months. My regular gave me a very good session. She was trying to fuck me into Novio status. The next morning I woke up to her giving me another round. T and 2 newbies walked in the middle of our session. She put on a show. She had it an audience and was showing off. Cow girling me on her tippy toes thrashing her body on me like she was trying to break my pelvis. The 2 new guys were pulling out the cameras like Japanese. Before she could say anything I stopped them. No cameras fellas mental pictures only. She smile from the respect. T asked me to ask her for around with her for 1500. I let her know everything was okay and that will not change our friendship. She told me she wouldn't take anything less than 2500. He declined. I gave her 2000 a dress and an extra bonus for her daughter.

Interesting story. The guy realized he had spent too much money, so tried to recoup some of it by stiffing the chica and alleging she stole money from him that he owed her anyway. No evidence that she failed to deliver sex as agreed. He got off lightly.

In these cases where there is a "misunderstanding" about what was meant by the agreed 2500 pesos-the monger thought it meant including food and drink and the chica thought it was just for companionship and sex-the misunderstanding never seems to work in favor of the chica and often the monger feels that he is giving free lessons in moral philosophy to the chica for which he should be paid.

Get real! I does not work like that. Pay a fair price, have fun, and accept that not every paid sexual encounter is going to be the ultimate fantasy, but if you play your cards right you can have some terrific sexual experiences in Sosua, and as you gain experience, you can increase your success rate. But the key thing to remember is that great sex is a cooperative venture that needs two people who are both enthusiastic to make it work, so if you can get the vibe right with the chica, the great sex will follow.

Yes its a mouth swab HIV tester. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has investigated the use of rapid HIV tests both in the United States and in developing countries. Rapid HIV tests were shown to be appropriate for a variety of settings, to increase demand for voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) , and expand outreach capacity.

Because of the severe consequences of HIV and the stigma attached to a positive diagnosis, testing for HIV status is often done as part of a VCT process. VCT includes pretest counseling in which the person being tested is told about HIV infection and AIDS; discusses their individual risk factors for infection and how these can be minimized; learns about the testing procedure; and considers the consequences of a positive test result. An informed decision (by the client) must be made before testing. Those who test negative must be reminded of the limitations of the test results and taught how they can reduce their future risks. Those testing positive will need emotional support, information on how to avoid infecting others, referrals to other support or treatment services, and partner notification information.

This test cannot be handled in such a cavalier fashion; Also the chica has the right to give a John the test.

Or thinking your value / presence is worth more to the average DR woman, than your financial contribution to her livelyhood. The 400 to 500 dollar item came up that the chic needed today. Check out my new Boca Chica report If it has already posted. I receive my text from my cousin who works at the health clinic. She does random test at college and universities in this area. She has taught me about keeping the test at room temperature and And how to deal with an invalid or positive reading. The test does not determine that you have AIDS only that and the bodies present that's only show up when exposed to the HIV virus. The test sometimes give a false positive And requires for the testing in a clinic. She said she texted 200 college students and 4 came back positive. Further testing show these positive or false. Even on and negative test result a person should be tested again in approximately 3 weeks. I don't use them all the time only during the times when I plan on playing dick roulette or when conducting an all night affair. I use toused test that required a little blood sample. Most people don't like being pricked. The mouth swab is the best thing smokin

I hated that ghetto f*ckin vibe from Sosua and am happy to be dealin with African / Asian women in this part of the world. I really did not like Sosua. Thugged out women not my style. You fellas take care over there.I can only think in one head. I (we) don't feel what somebody else feels. The best part of it? There aint nothing stopping me (or others) from ALSO going anywhere anybody else goes in the world to enjoy what that area has to offer. That means I / we have less limitations and more options, than those who can not appreciate and enjoy all that Sosua has to offer like I and others can or consistently have already.

On Friday traveled to Puerto Plata for the cable ride. Fantastic. Great scenery with a hiking trail. Worthwhile experience to get mountaintop views.

PP is a scenic relaxing town with a nice malecon and a chill vibe. It is understandable why people enjoy this town.

Returned to meet up with fellow ISG mongers. East coasters arriving on Jet Blue and Delta for weekend festivities. Group started at the beach then wandered over to the strip. Strip was not buzzing as anticipated. While walking ran into Caroline. Loved her slim modelo look and body. Wearing a lacey sexy white dress. Needed to get her out of mind. Expected poor service but it is okay since a chica like this would cost $$$$ in the US. Chica was not wearing panties. 1000 deal. Chica refused to take off complete dress since it was complicated to put on again. Assumed position for BJ. It is sure nice to have a hot chica sucking your dick without a condom while touching and feeling a nice body with soft skin. Good cowboy action. After around 15 minutes asking about my leche. Later on starts putting on clothes, Tell her not finished since no leche. Stated it was my problem. After negotiating, settled for hand job with sack fondling. Leched. Done. Moved on.

Returned to find the group at Rumbas. Group likes the club action. Prefer sitting outside watching and negotiating chicas. Found a nice Haitian and Dominican chica named Magarlita. Slim nice ass and petite. Negotiated a 2100 tln with kissing and sin condom BJ. She agreed.

Walked to the room. Attitude always changes once chica enters the room. The smile turns into a business look. Wanted the money. Declined. Motioned and said to put the money under the cable box. Declined. After back and forth. Opened the door for her to leave. Sat on the bed. Still wanted the $ outside but gave me her purse and cell phone. Told her I would lock up in my suitcase. Finally she motioned about the heart and agreed to take money at 700am. Let her keep her purse. Negotiated 3 pops, sin condom bjs and kissing. She agreed.

Started with kissing but she wanted to put on the condom. Instantly changed my mind. Told her only one hour. She wanted 1500 pesos. Declined. After back and forth agreed to 1100. Good sin condom BJ. Kept asking if it was good. Did not like she kept spitting into a towel. Cowgirl was good. Nice firm rack and body. What an experience to have these hot babes for a short time while getting a good ride. No leche again. Asking me,"Why no leche?" Chicas consistently do not like it if you go over 15 minutes. Finished up with a HJ and ball sucking. Chica wanted 100 pesos additional for food. Declined. Wanted to hold hands and walk around. Declined. Asking me if I was going to take another chica.

Chica left solo. Later returned to the strip where I saw her and smacked her ass. IMO the scene was just okay. Maybe all the best talent was already scooped up? Who knows. Nonetheless it is nice to feel like a professional athlete or a musician. Later at night is slightly dangerous as chicas get more crazy for money and alcohol. A transvesite kept hanging around my hotel entrance wanting 200 pesos. Returned to the room.

In the morning sought out my taxi friend. Decided to get check out chicas in no gringo mountain areas of Campo. Neat experience. Stopped at a house with a family of 3 daughters. All available with mother and father's blessing. Chicas were decent but decided against it. Went much further up where donkeys are still used. Started to rain heavily. Next chica is a school teacher who was still teaching at her kindergarten class. Hung out at her friend's house then left.

Returned to Sosua. Guide would bring me her picture later. Also has a facebook account. If I like her, she will have come to Sosua on Sunday. These chicas from the area hate Sosua and would never be sws. Nonetheless no way am I going back there. Overall a good experience with nice memories and photos.

Having said that, I have not found women either in Geneva or in Zurich, heck even in the canton of Lugano, who would allow a complete stranger do it without condom. There was one occasion in which I was with two women and they were changing condoms while taking turns just sucking me. Very different ballgame.

A grown man knows that tests available at CVS etc, are mostly sought by individuals who want to self-administer it. Such tests include pregnancy test and so forth. It can hence be inferred that such individuals are aware of all issues, physical and psychological, not to speak of false positives, which can be traumatic in this specific case. Your case is very different: you are administering a test that 1) you are not Qualified to administer and 2) to one who did not ask for it, may vehemently feel opposed to or feel forced to because of business realities. So, yes. It is "me-centric" and objectionable. Not that it matters to you but I hope you would mull over it in future and use one / two condoms if you are wary.

At first I thought the idea that Sosua woman would refuse a test for HIV by a paying monger in his room to be many things disrespectful on the woman's part. However, the more I think about it the more I put myself in the woman's shoes. If I went to the room with a sosua chica and she pulled out a swab to "home-test" me for HIV or anything for that matter, I'd tell her to get out immediately. The culture I live in does not allow for that. It's rude. Maybe in the furure things will change.

I will never know you to hate nor do I understand the reference to saintliness; just reiterating my position: if it is to test yourself, no issues but this specific test cannot be administered to another in a cavalier manner!

That chica wasn't insulted by my actions. She was afraid of what her test would have shown. Casa in the DR require that the chicas be tested for HIV as a form of employment. (so I was told by my Police Sergeant amigo in BC). I love it when a chica asked me to take one too. But that's me.

There are a number of legislative actions going on at the moment aimed at defining prostitutes as "victims" and mongers as "exploiters" and those who provide the infrastructure for prostitution as "traffickers".

For example the The European Parliament's Women's Rights and Gender Equality Committee has voted through a report that recommends the adoption of the 'Nordic Model' of prostitution laws.

Put forward by Mary Honeyball, Labour MEP for London, the report recommends the EU takes on the Swedish model of prostitution laws, which punishes the clients of prostitutes, rather than the sex workers themselves.

The model was recently voted through in the French parliament. Led by Women's Rights Minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, the bill means anyone found paying for sex will be fined €1, 500 (£1, 250) for a first offence. If caught a second time, the fine would be increased to €3, 000.

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/european-parliament-vote-nordic-model-prostitution-that-fines-clients-1433466

But the French law, although it has not yet passed all steps of approval, or been implemented may well include additional elements that require, for example, ISPs to block access to prostitution Web sites, even if they are hosted overseas like ISG.

http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2013/12/sex_work_laws_the_new_york_times_praises_france_s_new_legislation_and_gets.html

It is also very likely that similar laws will be brought before the legislature in the UK before very long.

Of course there are two sides to the argument, and the United Nations Global Commission on HIV and the Law has called for prostitution to be decriminalized and regulated worldwide, arguing that criminalizing prostitution just drives it underground into the arms of organized crime, a position that is coming under some pressure from abolitionists.

If the abolitionists succeed it is not impossible that initiatives will move again to the US, where prostitution is largely illegal, but law enforcement ineffective. Would we want to see mandatory blocking of Web sites or monitoring of foreign travel to sex tourism destinations?

Anyway, bottom line is that it is really better to argue that it is better for prostitutes to be protected and to have enforceable rights and reasonable autonomy than to argue that they are simply business owners who have plenty of protection already, because that isn't going to fly.

That's one of the reasons why I am quite critical of mongers who refuse to pay when it is pretty clear that the chica has performed her part of the bargain. When a person refuses to pay what he owes hoping that the chica will back off, and then finds that the next day a chica won't go with him without payment up front and then writes about it (not you Grownman1) in a public forum, don't think that this is not providing ammunition to the abolitionists whose researchers very likely monitor boards like this to find evidence that women are being exploited.

We have already seen some of the effects of this movement in a small way in Sosua with the closing of establishments like Passions and CMP and it could get much, much worse. So it is much better to write about those occasions when it is win-win and both the monger and the chica are happy, and when you think about it, those men who are vilified as "Captain Save-A-Hoe" probably have a more defensible position, because it is better to be exploited than to be the exploiter, and better to be perceived as a lover than as a *****monger whatever the truth of the matter.

So donating a few boxes of those free HIV tests to a local clinic will earn more points for the team than testing women yourself.

Fannie you are right I am missing it!Agreed.

While he admits braggingly paying to make two women have sex with him at once to satisfy his on sexual desires. He tells me how wrong I am to satisfy mine. Talking about chica rights.I wrote about having threesomes because that is something that many men fantasize about, but is much trickier to implement than many newbies might think. Yes, I have paid women to do this, but if you carefully read my posts on the subject you will see that I am fairly careful about not trying to coerce women to do more than was agreed upon, and in fact this was the subject of some discussion between myself and Mr. Gogo.

I have absolutely no objection to you trying to satisfy your sexual needs by paying women for sex. All of us on this board do that in one way or another. I have no objection to bareback sex either. I like it, but I think it is something that has to be very carefully negotiated, in fact in exactly the same way that one would negotiate it with a partner who was not paid for sex with regard to issues such as contraception, last unprotected sex with another partner, mutual HIV testing, herpes, and so on.

However your account of the HIV test and the chica doing a runner if full of contradictions AS FAR AS WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION. For example if the chica had already agreed to bareback sex ahead of time, then her refusal of the HIV test might, as you say, be an indication that she did not wish to know her HIV status, or did not want you to know it. However if she had not agreed to bareback sex at this point, but had already agreed on a price for sex, then that is a completely different matter, because it could look to her like you were trying to force her into bareback sex against her will.

You are writing for an audience all over the world, including any people who have never visited the DR, but we can only go by what you have written. If the chica later told you that the reason she quit on you was she did not want to know her HIV status, then that is information that you have not included in what you wrote, and one would have to conclude that if she had reason to suspect that her HIV status was compromised, then you are probably lucky that she walked, otherwise you might have a few weeks of anxiety ahead of you.

Like I said I respect Tempoecorto's opinion, however, his advice well doesn't matters to me. Hopeful I can calm down to at least see his point. Not sure I really understand what you were saying here. Bishop Eddie Long (see your post below) is a fundamentalist preacher who preached against gay sexa and marriage, but was himself implicated in lawsuits (subsequently settled out of court) that alleged that he had used his high position in the church and charitable funds to suborn vulnerable teenage men into having homosexual relations with him on various travel vacations. I can't quite see how Tempoecorto (or myself) fall into the same category of hypocrisy. Long was not preaching that young men should have the right to make their own choices regarding sex. He was just in denial about everything.

I was referring to Tempoecorto statement "What someone does in Switzerland or Timbucktu, is completely moot. There was one occasion in which I was with two women and they were changing condoms while taking turns just sucking me. Very different ballgame." and his reference of me using an HIV test in the DR stating: 1) you are not Qualified to administer and 2) to one who did not ask for it, may vehemently feel opposed to or feel forced to because of business realities. My reference to Bishop Eddie Long was an example of a man biblically preaching moral character to others about the wrongs of their sexual desires, yet behind close door, (its rumored) he satisfy his on sexual desires which was considered morally wrong. Why you went on the defense as if I was referring to you I don't know. Maybe you are still shook up from that Wrs2005 episode! Frannie
03-18-14, 21:29
What does the Federal and State laws (except Nevada) says about prostitution? An You are right logic is not my forte, but hypocrisy is yours. As we all know, there is no Federal law against prostitution, however there is a Federal law against traveling overseas for purposes of child prostitution, and using a prostitute is considered a crime under the Uniform Military Code, which is a kind of federal law. There is also a federal law against transporting someone across state lines for immoral purposes. There has also been limited action at the federal level to prevent Web sites like Craigslist from allowing prostitutes to advertise, however Backpage. Com, a subsidiary of the company that own the Village Voice, continues to do so.

So why does the federal government not pass a law against travel overseas for purposes of adult sex tourism? The answer lies in Nevada, because you cannot pass a federal law banning people from doing something overseas that is legal at home, even if in only part of the home, so the legal brothels in Nevada would have to be abolished first or at the same time. (All the states have antiprostitution laws except a partial exception for brothels in certain counties in Nevada, but these laws are not effectively enforced and enforcement efforts tend to focus on street prostitution so that local cops can look good on local TV and don't represent any real attempt to eliminate pay for pleasure.)

However I suppose it is possible that if a number of major developed countries pass laws banning sex tourism for its citizens that things might change in the US too. When you consider that there was barely any opposition to something as obviously half-assed as the Iraq war, it is doubtful whether many legislators would really have the courage to stick their necks out to vote against a ban on overseas sex tourism if it came up for a vote.

For these reasons it seems logical to take the stand that prostitution is a freely chosen way of earning a living in a service industry, and not one in which desperate women are coerced into performing sexual services they really don't want to do, because they have no other choice.

You can of course make the same argument about any kind of work that is lowly and hard, but the counter argument is that sex is different. That is why campaigners against [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908) always seem to focus on prostitution, but don't want to ask too many questions about the employees in Chinese buffet restaurants that offer such great value for money.

So anyone who wants this "hobby' to continue to be legal is probably better off supporting "chica's rights" than trying to break them down. For example, more than one person on this board has stated that if a chica won't do BBBJ, then they will throw them out. A better approach would be to respect the chica's right to choose what she feels comfortable with, or better still to negotiate this kind of thing before agreeing on a price for sex. Win-win is always better, and the negotiation can be fun too. At least I like to hear chicas talking dirty and explaining what they are going to do to me.

Because prostitution is illegal at the state level in most of the USA, it is probably not feasible to call someone up from Backpage. Com and ask if BBBJ and multiple pops are included in today's $80 lunchtime special, but the great thing about it being legal in the DR is that you can prenegotiate to your heart's content without breaking any laws, so you might as well prenegotiate until you find what you are looking for, rather than risk a frustrating confrontation in the bedroom in which you have to make sure there are no loose weapons lying around. That is no fun either.

If you really want to dedicate your life to sexual pleasure, then probably you need to make some investment, for example getting your spoken Spanish up to a good level of fluency so as to be able to relate to chicas on a more personal level.

And also give a thought to the poor old Captain Save A Hoe guys who send money by Western Union. Do you think they might be getting BBBJ, bareback sex, multiple pops, threesomes, breakfast in bed, etc?

It's day 2 noon, and as I wander into Rockies for a burger I pass a slim blond haired young chica. Smiles. I go in and eat my burger while she passes the joint a couple times. Looking in. Yep, she'll do.

I go across the street to the bar and she follows me in. I buy her a beer and we chat. This is Kenia, She works the early shift. Easy on the eye and full of promise (in the bar anyway) She says 1, 000 and after last night this is the third chica who has only asked for 1000 peso, Things are good.

What happened to the economy there, cause they used to ask 2 to 4000 for openers?

Anyway 5 minutes later we are in the 400 peso room and she gets all mechanical and won't take off her top. A little coaxing and I can see why. The padded bra hides these little immature tits. We go through the motions and I'm not getting off, so I pay her, thank her with a smile, and leave her there and go back to the bar. It's a quiet Monday so when she follows me in, I buy here a beer, and tell her I expected a little more.

She says she likes me, my attitude, not complaining, and she says let's try it again. I laugh and say if I go with her again, I want it all. She says OK, and by this time we know each other a little better. So damned if I don't take her back to the room again. Now she's open, naked, spreading, enthusiastic, BBBJ and I'm there.

Same routine I'm back in the bar, and she follows me in again. We are both happy now, She buys me a beer this time. And wants to hang in. I tell her if we go back again a third time, I want her ass, just to get her reaction. She thinks about it and says OK. Wow! I'm not really into that so I say later baby.

So there is something to be said for developing a little fun relationship with these chicas. You might not get all you want first time at bat, but if the vibe is good, hey!

Now I've found my default, go to chica, filed for later, if nothing else turns up. No language problems, sense of humor, all good. She'll also leave you alone if you are polite, but firm.

You can't miss her on the strip, so I'm curious about other guys experience with her.

That night LP's family show up, cause they know where I'll be. The two little nieces I used to bounce on my knee, now are proudly carrying their bambinos. The youngest can't be more than 15/16, and all live with momma who seems to take pride in it all. Go figure! I take them down for pizza, they go home with a few pesos, and the adults get back to the bar. Now I'm with ex novia family and her friends, and I want to make a statement, so I grab Haitian Natalie off the bar stool next to me and say I'll see you in ten minutes.

Natalie has big boobs and has been all over me in the bar, but when we get to that little room she goes into work mode, all business. Same outcome but for 1000 pesos what do you expect first time. I decide to pass on exploring the relationship further so am back in the bar 15 minutes later.

Then I see. The quiet, pretty one, a little heavier than my normal taste. She's been there both nights and smiling. A couple of beers later and I'm leaving with her.

This time, bingo! Everything I want, the way I want, and she makes like she is really, really enjoying it. This is it for me, so scratch Kenia off the list.

I don't give her name, because I'll be seeing her a lot, next time down in Abril.

Ah, Sosua Paradise!

Sosua Synopsis update March 2014.

Gentleman I just completed a trip that included excursions to Sosua / Santiago / Monti-Cristi. The original plan was to spend 2 days in Sosua. 4 days in Santiago then end my trip with another 2 days in Sosua. There was an impromptu opportunity to go to Monti-Cristi while I was in Santiago and when I returned I decided to cut the Santiago trip short and return to Sosua. This synopsis will cut to the meat of my experience in Sosua for those who are not interested in reading the entire Santiago trip report. This report is a companion to the Santiago and Monti Cristi synopsis report.

Below I have listed my notes for your review.

Victorian House.

On the first leg of my Sosua trip I stayed at the Victorian House for the second time. The Victorian House is the old Sosua Bay Hotel and it is absolutely beautiful. The view of the bay is OUTSTANDING! During the day you can see the boats floating on the crystal blue water and after dark the lights that surround the beach reflect the deep blue water that flows seamlessly into the midnight sky. I have an hotel room with a balcony view of the Sosua Bay and a king size bed with good WIFI signal and a spacious room with a refrigerator and safe. The bottom line is this is the spot! This is an excellent place to chill bring different chicas or wife up as it provides the ambiance that should impress any chica.

I was supposed to stay in the older units with the breakfast special but since there was not enough people over there they gave me a regular room, the view of Sosua Bay of course is spectacular.

It should be noted that if I had a choice between the Victorian House and Casa Cayena the Victorian House would win hands down. The grounds are more beautiful, the staff is more friendly and of course the view of the Sosua Bay is fantastic.

Casa Cayena.

On the second leg of my Sosua trip I stayed at Casa Cayena for the first time. I arrived a day early at Casa Cayena since I cut the Santiago leg of my trip short so I had to stay in an unprepared room. I changed rooms the next day and found it very spacious with a large bed with a very hard mattress. The furniture and television are all old but the room had a homey feel to it. The air-conditioner and hot water worked well. The room has a balcony that faces the pool and breakfast is included in the price of the room.

The closet space is more than sufficient and there is a room safe. In my opnion the staff was professional but not particularly friendly.

D Latins.

Since D Latins is the primary PFP spot in Sosua it draws all types. There was a couple of fights during my stay and I watched security have to put the slap down on someone.

There were some brothers doing their step in the middle of D Latins on one evening while I was there. I don't know if they were Alpha's Q's or Kappa's but they decided to take over the dance floor.

The music was loud as usual and the crowds at times put you on edge should there be any type of emergency.

La Comida Sosua.

Breakfast

Casa Cayena breakfast was free with the room. I had eggs bacon and homefires one day and eggs sausage and pancakes the other days. The restaurant is pool side and has a nice relaxing feel. American television is available in English while you eat.

Lunch.

Casa Cayena lunch has a varied menu. I had pork ribs and salad sorry Wilfred your ribs have nothing on Rockies ribs which fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. I paid 350DOP.

Dinner.

I had dinner on Wednesday night at Sinatra's which is the restaurant at the former PJ's spot. There was live entertainment and meals were 2 for 1 on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-9pm. The 2 for 1 would make a great date night. I had chicken kabobs' which were decent. For 300DOP.

The interview process.

I am a strong proponent of the interview especially with freelancers. The interview gives you an opportunity to practice your Spanish in a safe environment because your target is trying to get paid they will do everything possible to understand and attempt to entertain you.

The primary objective should be to see if you can establish a connection and secondary to discuss the terms of service. I recognize this is PFP but at the end of the day these chicas are women with personalities and feelings that will be exposed if you know how to press the right buttons. If you understand the culture and the language it will give you a good read on the individual chica.

It is important to note that just as in regular relationships we initially meet the person's representative character is rarely revealed in the first meeting of someone but you have to crawl before you walk. In all honesty we all have a little Jekyl and Hyde in us so we shouldn't be surprised when we see the same if not more diverse behavior when we are in PFP situations.

Examples of interview results:

•A chica advised she was sick and when I told her she shouldn't be working if she was sick she changed her story and said she was ok. I tested her and offered her 1500DOP she said that was "poco dinero" after which I walked away. I thought the nerve of the woman to want more than 2000DOP and she is sick possibly passing whatever she had on to someone else. Had I not interviewed her I might be the one who would sick at the cost of 2000DOP.

•Another chica and were attracted to one another and when I suggested we talk for the purpose of the interview she said we should talk in my hotel room. My radar went off "Warning Warning" she was going to be a rush and go maybe a "Dame tu leche" chica because she didn't want to take 15 minutes to talk to a man who was going to put his penis inside her. Needless to say I walked away and didn't miss a beat.

Interview venues.

You can conduct your interviews anywhere you feel comfortable. I spend most of my time in Sosua on the west end of Pedro Clisante which includes Rumbas and D Latins. If you make your pulls from D Latins I have the following recommendations for interview venues:

•D Latin's music is very loud and the hip hop music can be a distraction however, you can go in the back area that is an enclosed balcony and the music is not as loud as well as it is a lot cooler there when the venue is very crowded. It is darker in this area of the club and it gives the pseudo romantic vibe.

•The Spot has an excellent ambiance however the D J plays the music absolutely too loud. I asked him to turn it down which he did and 10 minutes later he turned it up again. Other than the music the venue is excellent for interviews.

•Winners Circle is more of a simple venue not as elegant as The Spot but within walking distance of D Latins but just like The Spot the music is absolutely too loud.

•The downstairs bar of Classicos is Merengue which has a mellow vibe with music that is not played very loud. You can sit at the bar or at the tables that surround the bar. In addition you can order light food to make it a date like experience if you so desire.

•The Mamajuana Cafe is a little further walk but it can be quite rewarding. The ambiance is laid back with bachata, salsa and merengue music playing in the background along with the island atmosphere with the grass hut and sand. The dim lighting makes for a romantic vibe and their fruit drinks with or without alcohol are excellent.

Final observations:

•When I first started coming to the Dominican Republic I would change my money at the airport upon arrival and again upon departure loosing on the exchange rate twice. The exchange rate at the airport (37DOP. 1US) is always less than Western Union (43. 10DOP. 1US) Now it is comical for me to see people in the exchange line at the airport when it says "no commission" I think "yeah right no commission" they don't need to take commission based on the difference in their exchange rate. Sometimes I feel like yelling at the people in the airport exchange line but then I come to my senses.

•There is a random bag check at the airport however there is no rhyme or reason to their method. In Medellin, Colombia for example you push a button as you go through the gate at immigration and if you get a red light you get checked. At the Puerto Plata airport there is no such system so be prepared to be randomly checked.

•I read negative comments about the talent level in Sosua but as far as I am concerned there are more than enough 8's for me especially after 11pm at DLatins. What I will say some of them have mad attitude. I do not understand how they expect to get chosen with the stink face but to each her own.

•There is no fool proof system to avoiding drama with freelancers but you can minimize your drama by observing how they inter-react with others, paying attention to their behavior and interview them to see if you have any type of connection.

•I failed to negotiate with one chica and she wasn't satisfied with the 1500DOP I offered her so to keep the drama down I gave her an extra 500DOP. I accept responsibility for the confusion but some of the best sex I have had has come from chicas I did not negotiate price with and put something in their wallet in the morning without them counting it. To be safe we should always negotiate up front.

•Do not be surprised if chicas want 2500DOP or more for ST. We should endeavor to keep prices reasonable1000-2000 for ST and 2000-3000 for TLN. As always there are those chicas who want more after all we are responsible for feeding their babies. If you like D Latins I recommend you get in and get out because on this trip there was a reported fight and I saw security engage in a smack down of someone who was acting up later in the morning.

•The sexual performance varied in my chica selection but there is no way to predict how proficient a chica is before you engage her so "asi es la vida"

•Overall I enjoyed my trip and I felt it was very productive and I am one step closer to finding my favorite spot in the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is like a woman I have been dating and considering a serious relationship with but I am going to be unfaithful to her and spend time with a woman who is arguably more beautiful and possibly have more potential. My next trip will be to Medellin next month and we will see what the Paisas have over the Dominicanas.

Camaro1257,

I saw those guys stepping also and the girls were looking around like "WTF". I have been down here for a month and half and I have seen some funny crap. The other night their was a group of very young guys, really boys to be honest, and one dude looked like Prince in the 80's dancing in a "VIP" section of Latinos, he even had his size about 5'4" a buck 20 and we were laughing because they were dancing with each other the entire night with no girls. Can you imagine, your trying to be the man by coming here and at the end of the day your dancing with your buddies. LOL.So many guys come down here with some much planning as to what they are going to be or do trying to be unique, I guess trying to wow a working girl. Everybody has their own way of doing things but it is very entertaining.

Yes the shake down at the Puerto Plata airport can be quite scary for the people who choose to indulge in things they should not and even for the straight up folks 1st go around. My last flight out they put a new guy on me and all the seasoned employee's just sat back and laughed they did not know I seen them but I did not care. Hell as long as the plane would wait on me I was fine and did not mind the new guy fucking with me a little.

Coming in to POP this time, the young guy checking my passport smiled, extended his palm downwards and said in a low voice,"Do you have a present for me?".

He had my passport, so I gave him $5. 00. I didn't need to get into a hassle by complaining to his supervisor, and who knows where that would lead, and how long it would take.

Figured it as just another tax, so I'll leave it a younger more vigilant passenger to do the crusading.

I had the same thing happen to me 2 years ago I just laughed and blew him off and there were no repercussions. Depending on your temperament sometimes it's good to call their bluff.Several years ago while going through SDQ customs was stamping my passport. The worker mentioned that since I overstayed (at the time one had to pay an overstay tax if they stayed over two weeks [I do not think this is the case anymore]) that I had to pay her $10. This sounded pretty hi so I said I would do so on the condition that she would give me a receipt. She said no so I responded that I would like to talk to her supervisor. She sent me to another desk and they collected the overstay tax and charged me only $5 (with a receipt)! I then went through customs with no problems. I always make it a point of pretending to not know Spanish so it would make it difficult for them to talk to me. Just simple "si" and "no!" If they try to talk to me in English I simply say "no comprendo" and ask loudly to talk to someone who can translate. Making a small ruckus and attracting attention can scare these workers off. In the end most of these dishonest workers prey on the ignorance of tourists.

One thing I learned in wrestling that applies here is "if they catch you the first time shame on them. If they catch you a second time shame on you!" It is a learning experience. They do this for a living while we have to deal with this only on vacation. With some awareness and experience you can keep the hustling down but there is always that one or two hustles that sneak by because, even though experienced, you have never encountered it before (like the wrong person charging me the overstay tax so she could pocket the money) , it is a different take on an old hustle, you were too drunk or distracted to notice (anybody ever get pickpocketed! Sober you are a target. Drunk it is so much easier.) , you felt pity or sorry for someone (give money to kids in the street and before you know it you have kids pestering you) ; fooled by their kindness being your weakness (chica invites you to visit the family, or to a party and before you know it you are paying, or buying all sorts of things for her and others [and they are therefore taking advantage of your kindness]) , you were intimidated (Politur is good at using this to their advantage) , you do not want any problems (screamers will act out in the hotel just to shake you down for more money) , you simply did not know (newbie mistakes) , or you took a chance that you should have known better not to do ("Wow! That girl looks fine but looks young. She ain't go no 'cedula! ' That's okay. I'll take her back to the hotel and just bribe the guard to let her in." If you do not pay her enough what happens-KNOCK KNOCK-"Senor Politur, how did I know she was 14! She looked 105!").

For declining anal sex?

Wow!

You guys are really jaded.Just messing with you dude. I have no desire to have anal sex with man, woman, child, or animal, not even with a gloved finger. But we are all perverts in one way or another by someones definition. For a man of 40 to have sex with a girl of 20 would probably cross the threshold of perversion by many right-thinking citizens' standards, for isn't that the same as a man of 30 with a girl of 10? No of course it is not, but that is how a lot of people think. Sex with hookers. Eew!

But, at my age, I'm not going start a vacation by getting all adrenalin fired up over 5 bucks.

My first and only good experience with anal was with a Sosua chica who came to SD to be with me. I met her on Cupid. She was the best GFE I have ever had. When ever I wanted sex she was ready. I think she liked anal more then regular. When the girls likes anal it is another dimension. She drained every drop of leche in my body. Her attitude was so nice it made our encounter just wonderful. We are still friends but I have to be careful with her. When she is through with you, your dick is finish for a week. [

She is an older Chica, in her early 40's but looks to be in her early 30's. She is from La Vega, and is very much GFE for those who prefer that type of experiences. I was in Sosua from October thru November and January to March, but she was not there. I got a phone call last week and was told that she was in town. If you want to get to know her, try Rocky's and ask the guy who kidnapped a dame in the late 30's and took her to the top of the Empire State Building. He probably can help you out.

His supervisor could be his fuckin' uncle for all I know, hell they're all related down there anyways. I could be detained while it got sorted out, or even accused of making a false statement or even offering a bribe (he had the evidence). All I want is my fuckin Presidente at the bar.

I travelled a lot by car and bus in Eastern Europe just after the Wall came down and crossing the borders was a total shakedown. I was once pulled off a bus and held back in Slovakia while they let the rest of the bus go on. They also had this "road tax license" which they wrote out by hand for some non existent law that said you need it to drive on their main highways."how much is it?", then "I don't have that much cash ", then "how much do you have?", all the time smiling at each other. They got nothing but time, I got kids in the car, and I need to move on. I learned to carry very little cash with me. This kind of shit conditioned me to do the quick CBA, ROI. analysis. In all my travels, only in Jakarta, Indonesia I saw a thing like that but I never paid using the ruse of not understanding his language. A colleague of mine, who used to travel to Africa on business frequently (means 4/5 times a year) , told me it was routine there, East Africa as well as West Africa. In 5 years I've never been ripped off, with bar tabs, no confrontations with chicas, pickpockets etc. We were rounded up by the cops in BC, but let off free. (does the $25 taxi ride from the airport count?)

I'm going down again April 8, and looking forward to hooking up with the last chica I met. She's been texting me daily and saying "excuse mi escribe mucho, pero te amor mucho". Get that? A lot goes on in Sosua for such a small town.

Tuesday morning Frank from Casa Valeria told me what happened.I'm sure I must have past it dozens of times, but didn't know the name.

Great report Camaro. I like how you say the Dominican is like a girlfriend you are dating but don't want to get serious with. Sosua is great, but it definitely throws a lot of curves at you, like closures of CMP and Passions, and the unpredictability of the chicas. All in all, though its still a great short term mongering destination of the western hemipshere.

OK guys, I fucked up, my apologies to all, and I'll try to do better.Dude, no need for an apology of any sort.

Maybe I should apologize of the way the post sounded. I was just wondering what was going through your mind when you handed the clown your hard earned "play with the chicas" money.

Hell, you just paid 10 bucks to enter the country.

We all know you are a seasoned veteran; no worries.

Cabarete.

Because I sit at a bar all night, four nights a week, I get to meet a lot of interesting people and hear some really crazy stories. Absurd stories. Funny stories. Bizarre stories. I thought I would share some of these stories.

This past Saturday I took my usual spot at the corner of the bar where I could gaze out over the ocean and scan for any topless females as well as keep an eye on the waitresses. I'm always fascinated by Domincian waitresses. I'm amazed at just how much they can sit around and talk about each other's hair while simultaneously gossiping about the latest sexual debauchery taking place among the staff.

Sitting directly across from me was a 6'6 African American New York city cop. I introduced myself and we started talking about some American football and basketball games coming on TV later. Sitting on the bar, directly in front of him, was a new Samsung Note 3 phone and a 10-inch Samsung tablet. I asked to look at them. The phone was huge but extremely thin, with an amazing screen. He had just bought them recently in New York and I think just the phone alone cost $700.

The cop and I spent 5 hours talking at the bar. He was there when I came into work at 4:30pm, and he was still there at 11:00pm. During the night, he ate, and then I ate. He ate again, and then I ate again. He drank beer throughout, and I drank coffee. 5 hours later I was flying on a caffeine buzz. He couldn't drink anymore beer. I thought, Fck it, and drank another coffee.

Several girls came throughout the night and sat to his left, and then to his right, and then across from him—all trying to make eye contact with him and get his attention. He is good looking, extremely well built. 6'6, about 215lbs, and with a fantastic, easy going demeanor. He laughs easily, and is constantly smiling. He looked like Denzel Washington. The waitresses began staring at him and more than a few were smitten with him. I was smitten with him. He was damn good looking and strong.

After sharing stories with him for a few hours, he told me a crazy story of what happened to him last year in Sosua at the bar Classico. He was standing inside; standing at one end of the bar, drinking and watching the girls parade around him in high heels that were three sizes too small and twisting their ankles. An African American walked in briskly and stood next to him. This cop towers over everyone. This guy started making small talk with the cop. It turns out that he too was from New York. A few minutes later, a group of Dominican men walked in and were searching for the African American who was standing next to the cop. They approached both men. They assumed the cop was friends with this guy. This guy had had some altercation outside with these men, but the cop did not know this.

One of the Dominicans grabbed a beer bottle and swung it at the cop. Glass hurts. The cop leaned back—avoiding the glass. Glass cuts. He grabbed the man and put him in a headlock. Headlocks hurt. Meanwhile, people were jumping on the cop trying to get him off. Security came rushing inside. The cop told him that he would release the guy as soon as everyone stepped back. Everyone stepped back. He released him. He was asked to come to the police station. He did. At the police station he was told that he would have to pay for the guys injuries. The guy had cut his hand on some glass on the floor. The cop asked, 'Why should I pay when it was him who swung the bottle at me? ' Wrong question. Never attempt logic with Dominicans. He refused to pay and was locked up.

The next day, he was transferred to Puerto Plata jail. There, they told him that he would need to pay $7000 US dollars if he wanted the charges dropped and to get out of jail. He refused. They left and came back a few hours later and said they would settle for $5000 US dollars. He refused again. They told him it could be a month before his court date came up.

Meanwhile, his friends were urging him to pay and be done with it. He refused. But then, he saw a group of Haitians in the corner of the jail cell, they were washing their clothes—pants, shirts, socks—with a quarter inch bar of soap and a small water balloon of water. It wasn't enough water to even get one sock wet, and yet, here they were, washing their clothes with it.

The cop stood there watching this. He started thinking about this possibility of spending a month in jail. He called for the captain. He told him he wanted to negotiate. The police smiled. They went to an office and started negotiating back and forth and settled on $2500 U. S dollars to have the charges dropped and get released. When he gave them the money, they were seated in some office. There was a lawyer there and some more cops. Right in front of the New York cop, they started to distribute the money to each other. They had no shame. They counted the money and started dividing the money amongst themselves. Afterwards, the cop was free to go.

Part 2 will be about what happened to his Samsung phone and Samsung Tablet.

PS. I don't have time to re-read through all of this and make spelling corrections. These stories will all be unedited.

No surprise in any of that, makes you think twice about going back though; the luck or bad luck, of being at the wrong place at the wrong time is always there. Its just in the DR you have less back doors, to be able to escape. If anyone knows the secret to lay low, have fun and not get hustled in the DR, please interject.

Its just in the DR you have less back doors, to be able to escape. If anyone knows the secret to lay low, have fun and not get hustled in the DR, please interject.First, get out of Sosua. Better yet get off the North coast, too many people with nothing to do but watch and plot. Hit SD or Santiago, big cities where people have agendas besides hustling a gringo. You must know Spanish, not knowing Spanish makes you an instant target and limits your options. In SD and Santiago use cabanas, never take girls to your gated apartment unless its your main girl. Don't fuck with Dominican dudes unless they have major status to get your ass out of trouble. Just having the card of a high ranking officer who is your friend can keep you from being hassled by low ranking Dominicanos.

Never meet a chicas family, too personal. Also the hands for charity will come from all angles when the family locks in. Never answer personal questions with anyone. Develop a Dominican dress. Jeans, loafer shoes, shirt tucked and belt to match your shoes. Don't become a regular at Dominican spots late at night. The big cities have movies, baseball games and a zoo. Don't become a gringo who gets drunk and chases pussy all day. Pussy is everywhere in the DR and easy to get, but doing normal shit to blend in is an art.

I read that story about a year ago with the tall cop from NY, sad story. It gets even more crazy when you hear what happened in Cabarette with the phone.

Here is a story that I personally was involved in years ago: I was sitting at 4 Roses at 2am waiting on a waitress to get off work. I saw the police go running into Europa hotel and since I was staying there decided to see what was going on. Earlier in the day I had met these 4 Jacksonville state troopers and we were drinking in the back part of Europa by the jacuzzi. My lady was with me as we drank and her father is a Puerto Plata cop. Anyway when I see the cops run into Europa I go and see the DR cops questioning this Jacksonville cop. They take his passport and said they will investigate and left.

The guy comes and sits down next to me at 4 Roses and tells his story. He was in Classicos and he went to dance with this girl on the floor. The girls lesbian lover came out of nowhere and attacked the cop, leaving a gash under his eye from her finger nail. The cop decides to leave and when he gets to the bottom stairs of Classicos the lesbian jumps from the top stairs like a ninja warrior at the cop. He nailed her with a right and knocked her out then left and they found him at Europa.

As me and the guy sat at 4 Roses I felt sorry for him. I called the girls father and told him to meet me at the Sosua station because my friend was in trouble. At the station the Father explained that they were both cops and should be able to work it out now. He explained that the cop had a gash under his eye and was attempting to leave the scene when he was attacked again. He told the two cops to"settle it". I told my friend to be polite and slide the cop a couple 1k red notes but he only had one and a 500p note. He came out the room with a relieved look on his face and his passport.

I told him to stay out of Classicos and he became a late night hangout partner at 4 Roses with me. The girl I was banging at 4 Roses knew she was only a sometime late night option for me but she also had options. One of the other Jacksonville cops asked if he could make a move on my 4 Roses girl. I said she makes her own moves so go for it. The next afternoon we were all partying again at Europas jacuzzi, me and my girl and the cops and the 4 Roses girl. Homeboy fell in love with my 4 Roses girl and retired her from Sosua, oh well.

If anyone knows the secret to lay low, have fun and not get hustled in the DR, please interject. No secret, but 99% of mongers seem to manage it OK. Alcoholics, racists, loud-mouths, exhibitionists, drug-takers, bullies, and the terminally stupid will usually find trouble eventually.

My tips to improve the odds in Sosua (cannot speak for other locations) :

1) Avoid "the Strip" by night. That area attracts all the scum of the island, and a lot of scum from abroad.

2) Choose haitianas rather than dominicanas.

3) If you have to drink, do it by daylight.

4) Have as little contact with Dominicans as possible. There are many decent Dominicans in the DR, but not many in Sosua.

There are plenty of decent Dominicans in Sosua, however you will tend to find them in places like hospitals, clinics, schools, gymnasiums, pharmacies, dentist offices, banks, churches, and so on and not in places frequented by mongers like chica bars, chica-friendly hotels (as knocking-shops are quaintly referred to) , casinos, massage establishments, police stations, etc. Also a significant percentage of taxi drivers are religious types who play gospel music in their cars and display religious insignia in their vehicles.

A good risk management strategy as regards the popular crowded bars where fights seem to break out is to reduce your actual time there by entering, finding a girl, and taking her somewhere else fairly quickly and by avoiding these places very late at night. 11:00 pm is better than 1:00 a. M. As people get progressively drunker and / or more desperate.

Having said that, I have been in places like Classico disco and D'Latino's more times than I know, but have never seen a fight or a violent incident. Then again, I don't stay longer than necessary.

Never carry more money than you need right now.

Use the ATM and take the moto concho there and back when you need more.

Never, ever, get drunk where there are strangers.

Spend your money in the same places. They get to know you and they look after their customers.

Learn a little Spanish, cultivate a girl friend who knows her way around.

Personally I've found some great people down there (compared to my home town) and it's partly that what keeps me going back.

Be polite but firm and walk away from trouble. Don't argue.

Remember you are in their poker game, so don't try and set the rules. It's corrupt, and always will be.

If you get into trouble, drink too much, complain a lot at home, you'll do the same down there but worse.

Remember, your just a john down there, and she is a puta. You're not a missionary, so don't get on your high horse and try to "set them straight". They won't change.

Have fun and do try the 'strip" at night. It's where all the fun is.

As ususal, the big boys are on here today giving great advice as always. Keep it going!

After the New York City cop and I hung out for 5 hours at the bar on Saturday, he got up to walk up around a little. Not long after he left, he was followed by a well known working girl that usually hangs out on the east end of Cabarete near the Fuji film store. The waitresses wanted to follow him around as well. Hell, I wanted to get up and follow him. He was damn good looking and strong. He was chick magnet!

Anyone who has lived in Cabarete for any time will instantly recognize her—she has long bleached blond curly hair, walks with a limp, is around 5'3, and is very, very skinny. Many people here in town know here as a drug addict and thief. I've never seen her inside any restaurant or bars here, but I do see her every evening hanging out in the street. She likes to hang out on the street near the new condos called Morning Breeze, right past Scotia bank, near the Fuji film store.

She was following the cop around and explaining to him the 'Happy Hour' special she was running. He wasn't interested. He walked to his rental car which was parked on the street, opened the door and got in. She immediately opened the passenger side door and got in as well. He told her to get out. She said would get out as soon as he gave her some money. He refused. She said, 'Ok, ' and got out of the car and started walking briskly down the street with a limp.

Before he drove off, he reached for his phone. It was not there. Nor was his new 10' Samsung tablet. Both had been on the passenger seat. When she got in, she sat down on them. It was nighttime. He had been drinking a wee bit. He forgot about them on the seat. They both were sitting directly underneath the Happy Hour special of the bleach blond.

He got out of the car and started walking in the direction she headed in. The motoconchoos and some other people saw her take off down an alley. He asked them if they knew where she went and explained what she had just taken from him. They told him to wait right there, and they took off in her direction. Twenty minutes later, they returned and said they found her and that she had already sold his stuff to someone else. They said that the guy who bought the stuff wanted $700 US dollars. He said, 'keep the stuff' and walked away.

They followed him back to his car and said they could probably get it for $500 US dollars (another Happy Hour). Meanwhile, two cops showed up. He explained to the cops what happened. A few minutes later, a guy showed up with his phone. It was his new Samsung Note 3. It's a $700 dollar phone in the USA He told the cops 'that's my phone he has in his hand! ' They told him there was nothing they could do about it, but if he wanted to press charges they could go to the police station and file the paper work. He told them he didn't have the time.

While the Dominican man held his phone in his hands, the New York cop started contemplating how much it was going to cost him to replace the tablet and the phone. It would have been well over $1000 US dollars. Now, here he was standing with two Politur officers, a Dominican with his phone in his hand, and other people listening to the details of the negotiation.

Side note: this is exactly why I cannot ever own a gun in this country. In this situation—with two Politur officers standing there doing nothing while a Dominican held onto my $700 dollar phone, I would have pulled out my gun and told the guy to immediately hand over my phone or I will shoot you in the balls, and then I will shoot the Politur officers in the balls. Not a smart move over a stupid phone.

He negotiated a price of $17, 000 pesos, or roughly $420 dollars. He got his stuff back and I saw him in the bar on Monday night (during the Monday night football game) where he told me, the owner, Big Frank, and a US foreign Officer (Brian Gallo) that works for the US State Department in Washington DC & Afghanistan.

Ps. After he got home on Saturday night and tried to check his phone, he noticed his Us SIM card was gone and so was his Memory card which held all of his photos.

He walked to his rental car which was parked on the street, opened the door and got in. She immediately opened the passenger side door and got in as well.I am guilty of having items like that in my possession too. But from his example, I will try to remember not to have those items in plain view, especially anywhere in the passenger area of my car. Have to secure all vulnerable stuff before allowing anybody in the vehicle. Speaking of allowing somebody in the vehicle. If you can't open only the drivers side to get in, then I wouldn't get in the car until the riff raff is clearly out of range. In fact it's probably better to deal with the riff raff before even approaching the vehicle. Once inside the vehicle though, make sure you lock your doors.

It is a good thing that the kindly trusting New York cop did not have his gun with him, otherwise they would have taken that too.

It really is asinine to tote around a $700 phone in the DR with your US SIM card and memory card in it. Of course if you don't know that, then you don't know until you find out the hard way.

In fact buying a $700 smart phone makes no sense anyway, unless you have money to burn, and even if you do it is probably best to have an insurance policy or have it covered in your household insurance, because if your kid drops it in the commode when you are in the shower, then that is $700 down the crapper, enough to buy a smart phone, a tablet, a touchscreen notebook computer, and a digital camera and three memory cards and still have some change.

If I had been him I would have waved goodbye to the phone and bought a Nokia 520 AT&T Windows Gophone for $70 to replace it, then made use of the facility to upload photos free to the cloud in case the card went missing or destroyed, and also stored my music in the cloud. For an extra $30 I could get an unlocked version of the phone, or get AT&T to unlock it for free, and then put a DR SIM card in it on arrival.

Of course I agree with you about the "other" Dominicans in Sosua.I don't disagree with your general thesis, but abstention from drinking and smoking are desirable traits in taxi drivers, (and also in chicas). I am sure that approximately 100% of your Haitian chicas are good Christian girls.

Religion is also an extremely useful tool in the raising of children, because Jesus is invariably on the side of the parents when it comes to good manners, leaving a clean plate, not answering back, and so on, and will strike a disobedient child down in a heartbeat, which is more that you can say for Santa Claus who just sticks parents with the bill for his so-called generosity.

I have not been to Sosua, in any real sense but reasonable number of times in the DR and reading the Sosua stories are always interesting. I am like where are these people from? How do you avoid these types of situations I would like to take my first trip to Sosua but when I hear stories like this it scares me.I have made maybe 50 trips to Sosua and lived there for extended periods and have not encountered any of these kind of situations. Honest! You just have to blend in, be nice to people, make friends, avoid confrontations, avoid any kind of display of wealth, don't carry a lot of money, and you will be fine.

Remember there are also lots of women and babies and school children and old people living in Sosua and going about their daily life without anything happening to them at all.

I felt the same way about visiting the US, having read about muggings in New York and the massive murder rate in the 70's, but when I actually plucked up courage to set foot in the US in the 80's I found it wasn't that bad after all. I have even visited Jacksonville, which is one of the most murderous cities on the planet and have yet to witness a killing. If New Orleans was a country, then it would have the second highest murder rate in the world, yet tourists flock there for Mardi Gras. Miami has the same murder rate as Colombia, and Atlanta is equal to South Africa, which is generally regarded as pretty unsafe.

I have been to all of those cities and lived to tell the tale.

For an extra $30 I could get an unlocked version of the phone, or get AT&T to unlock it for free, and then put a DR SIM card in it on arrival. As a rule of thumb I never bring and use my more expensive phone while I am in the DR. I buy the cheap phone because this alone will deter many from taking it. Second, even if it is stolen the only regret I will have is the loss of my sim card, yet I will be using a DR number and not my regular phone and sim so no great loss. When I walk around I have the phone on me at all times. Having it on the car seat is a bit careless (a lesson learned). The tablet I simply leave at the hotel. Walking down the street in DR you risk theft, or it being damaged or forgotten somewhere.

I usually cheapen myself. Use a $10 dollar watch rather than my more expensive one, arrive to the airport wearing jeans and a simple tshirt. I expect and am not surprised at theft throughout the entire travel (TSA in the states, the DR airports, and DR itself) so I generally do not have any valuables in the suitcase. If they want to steal underwear and socks let them go ahead (an iron gets a little tricky!). The most valuable stuff, in terms of importance and money, I carry with my onto the plane (driver's license, money, credit cards, tablet). The smaller items I carry in a pacsafe fanny bag with a lock. One time I had it go through the airport xray machine. By the time I reached the other end the Dominican woman was desperately trying to open it before I got there. She simply could not figure it out. I took it out of her hand, unlocked it, and opened it myself but would not let her take my wallet.

When I enter the hotel room I place what I can in the safe and use some small cable lock to close the doors of the closet where the safe is. In other words, to get to the safe one needs to know the combination of the small cable lock or needs to cut the cable. If they cut the cable I will know that someone tried to break into the safe. In short, I do not trust even the hotel staff.

Except on my first trip I never used a credit card in the DR to pay for anything. I withdraw from an ATM and use the credit cards to withdraw cash, as a last resort and only in an emergency, but never to purchase anything. I've heard of too many stories of people using their cards in the DR and before you know it someone in Washington Heights or another part of New York City is using their cards. Also, even with legitimate uses many times one is charged on the high end of the exchange rate. Added to this the fee that is charged by the credit card issuer adds to the cost. Also, if someone is not charging you in pesos make sure it is in dollars and not Euros (this happened one time to one of my friends when he was on vacation in Mexico. The vendor claimed dollars but it was instead in Euros!).

How do you avoid these types of situations I would like to take my first trip to Sosua but when I hear stories like this it scares me.Being a little scared when in strange places is not a bad thing, it keeps you alert. Sort of like being in a fun fair when you are a kid.

But, most of the problems related here are avoidable if you use some common sense, and puts you in that 99% that go down there often and have a great time.

Another great way of avoiding trouble is never drive down there. Take the autobus for long distances, moto concho for short, (and this is where having a GF relationship comes in handy) she'll show you the gua gua, the publico, where you can get around unbelievable cheaply. If I need to get across the island, I give some money to my "friend" moto concho driver and he borrows or rents an old car, and for little more than the price of gas, he'll take me anywhere.

Watch the smart puta, and you'll see she has a "network". If you go there often enough, you should have one too. Forgot your charger? A wave of the hand and in 10 minutes and less than 10 bucks later it's in your hand. Having a good time at the bar but getting hungry? A wave and 2 minutes later you will have some of the best tasting calle comida you ever had in front of you.

Go, be smart, and have the greatest time of your life!

(And, oh yeah, leave the credit card at home. Take your ATM card, preferably two. Those machines sometimes get hungry.)

It really is asinine to tote around a $700 phone in the DR with your US SIM card and memory card in it. Of course if you don't know that, then you don't know until you find out the hard way.

In fact buying a $700 smart phone makes no sense anyway, unless you have money to burn, There is nothing asinine about toting ones phone (expensive or not) with a US sim and memory card in it. Just like it isn't asinine for anyone dominican (especially a business person) to tote around their expensive phone with a DR sim and memory card. Especially those with special plans which allows them to roam internationally. Some folks have dual sim phones. Some even use their phones for work and staying in touch with family. So there is nothing asinine about having or using that type of phone in the DR. The cost factor is simply a matter of choice and / or affordability. Some folks can afford that type of phone, and they aint burning their money just to have an expensive phone. They just happen to not be on a DR budget.

You may be aware of this, but many members on this forum own and use their Galaxy Note 2's. 3s', S3 and S4's, Iphone 4s and 5's. And they bring them and use them on vacation. The focus shouldn't be on how others spend their money. The focus here is avoiding theft. The average business person in the DR probably has an expensive phone. You think it's asinine for them to own and walk around with an expensive phone just because somebody else has issues with it? I would think a person in the DR with an expensive phone would be just as concerned about losing their phone with their sim and memory card in it as someone from the states. But it aint gonna happen that they are not going to have the phone of their choice, just because other people have a problem with it. What makes sense in this discussion is how you secure your stuff. Not how much you spend on your stuff. If a person has no use or doesnt see the value in using such devices, then thats their personal preference/concern.

I don't disagree with your general thesis, but abstention from drinking and smoking are desirable traits in taxi drivers, (and also in chicas).

So you discovered religion now, eh? LOL.

I agree with Chales Pooter and you both about the God spouting folks though.

I have made maybe 50 trips to Sosua and lived there for extended periods and have not encountered any of these kind of situations.

I have been to all of those cities and lived to tell the tale.I completely agree. Once, long before GPS was known, I was lost trying to find out the hotel in Philly downtown (for those who are aware of the place) and wound up in the wrong area at 10 at night coming from the airport. May be I was stupid, but I just walked out of my rental car and asked people for directions. Chevy Chase movies would show the tires being ripped off and hauled away during that short period but nothing dramatic happened to me. Kind people just directed me the right way.

Speaking of my first trip to Sosua, I had a rolex on and the Italian guy mentioned it but frankly, with so many fakes going around, a thief can never figure out which is real and in any case, as I knew, nothing ever happened. I cannot speak of Sosua but I rarely even use the safe in hotel (Once I left my passport locked in the safe in an Istanbul hotel as I flew to Ankara or was it Izmir. Fortunately my itinerary back and out of the country was through Istanbul so no real damage) and I have left a woman alone watching TV in the room while I was downstairs chatting with two guys staying at the hotel. My motto is be wary but trusting. The kind of people you deal with has a lot to do with it but it begins with a good attitude as you pointed in your first paragraph. Of course, the more you travel, the better you get at that.

Its sounds like the 6'6 cop either isn't too bright or he has the worst luck in the world. After reading about his adventures, I am positive it is a combination of both! Its probably best he stay in NY walking the beat. (I will admit, it is highly entertaining to read about his exploits)

When I have seen them with smart phones, they are usually the cheaper models, and anyway if you have the really expensive ones insurance is available including for robbery.

http://www.orange.com.do/web/beneficios/precios

Anyway if you are willing to lay down your life for your cell phone, then good luck with that, and you won't be the first.

People are asking how to avoid these kind of catastrophes in the DR. Yes, one method of risk management is to lock up your valuable stuff carefully, but another is simply don't bring it down in the first place, thus sidestepping the whole issue. Leaving your smart phone lying on your desk at work in the US while you go to the bathroom is one thing, leaving it lying on a table in a chica bar in Sosua while you go to the bathroom after a few beers is quite another. People drink alcohol on vacation. Drinking impairs their judgment and makes them less able to read the character and motives of others.

If you have a plan with cheap international roaming, it will work just as well if you bring your SIM from home and put it in a $10 unlocked phone in the DR. If you get a DR SIM card and phone, you can call the US for the same price as a local call in the US. You can make cheap international calls from Internet cafes in the DR. If you have a Skype enabled phone you can make cheap international calls via your hotel's wi-fi or from restaurants. You can get a year's worth of unlimited calls to US phone numbers for about $30, or you can use Magic Jack too.

There are lots of ways to skin a cat.

Yes, you can bring your $700 phone if it is essential for whatever you need, or if the amount of money sunk in the phone is not significant to you, but just be aware that it is likely to attract interest of the wrong kind.

On my last trip I bought a cheap phone from Orange for 800 pesos which I used to contact the Chicas in Sousa / Puerto Plata and left my "I" phone back in the USA. I also have a worldwide plan thru Skype on my laptop so I was able to call my USA phone to retrieve any messages and also call the USA via Skype. I was also able to call the USA on my Orange phone but it was expensive to do so, so Skype was the way to go and what I would recommend to have. I found no need to be have my "I" phone with me utilizing a local phone and Skype on my laptop.

I would say it all depends on your M.O. An 800 peso Orange phone is not going to do shit for me. I have that free international internet plan from T-mobile so I keep my Galaxy S1 with my US SIM on in the 100 countries that I am able to for free. I keep a separate Galaxy S4 knock off with a local SIM for local calls. I am going from city to city and communicating with most of my chicks through whats app. I just brought a chica home in the capital. She had no idea how to get to her house. If it was not for my smartphone with GPS I would have been stuck hiring a taxi to follow to and from.

We are talking about someone making a first time or casual trip to the DR for a few days who is interested in avoiding common problems that the unwary can run into, like being parted from a very expensive phone.

Incidentally the T-Mobile plan sounds like a great deal and I would absolutely get it myself except that T-Mobile 4G Internet has no signal at the US location where I spend some of my time (but At&T does). The $80 per month plan includes unlimited 4G date on the phone (plus unlimited calls and texting) , plus up to 5 gigabytes of unthrottled $4G tethering data (I. E. You can use the phone as a modem to connect a tablet or notebook computer to the Internet.)

http://www.cnet.com/news/t-mobile-to-offer-free-unlimited-international-data-texts/

By the way, the T-Mobile plan will work perfectly well with a $100 Nokia 521 Windows phone and this includes the free downloadable maps that can be used in rural locations without any data connection.

One could presumably buy the T-Mobile plan as a gift for a "friend" in the DR. Used in conjunction with a prepaid international calling service like this one:

https://www.unitedpinless.com/how-it-works

The person in the DR could make free calls to landlines in the DR and buy calls to cell phones for 7. 7 cents per minute, which would be cheaper than buying prepaid time from Orange or Claro (I think.)

Something new.

In 2009 a passport agent stamp my passport then pointed down to a note that said something like " Today is my birthday, can can you give me 100 pesos". She had the note out of site of everyone else. It was written in english. I just took my passport and kept it moving.

Except for perhaps No. 3 this is the worst advice I have ever seen. If you have to follow these rules why go to Sosua at all. I love Sosua but I couldn't if I followed these rules.

Phuquer
03-26-14, 04:30
Most of the information in my post is very basic, but I hope it will help another first timer who is wondering what Sosua is like.

I arrived at Puerto Plata International Airport in the early afternoon. As you leave the jetway, the first thing you will see is the guys playing Merengue music. You make a right and you will see the first currency exchange. In front of that there is a guy collecting the $10 Tourist Tax. If you look Hispanic, can pass for Hispanic, or can speak decent Spanish, try telling him 'Yo naci en la Capital'. He asked me if I was born here and my instinctive response was to say I was not. I paid the $10 then asked him if I said I was would he let me pass. He said he would have taken me on my word. Next time I'll try not to pay.

When you pass him, you will reach immigration. If you have a choice, walk to the line with a female agent. There is less of a chance that a female will try to scam you.

Pass immigration and go through customs. Hand them your customs form and hopefully keep walking.

Outside you will see the line of taxi drivers vying for your attention. The correct fare (although I think it is excessive for the distance) is $25US, or 1200DOP.

The hotels that most mongers stay at are along Calle Dr. Rosen. Those hotels are Casa Cayena, New Garden, Casa Valeria, Terra Linda, Hotel Orchidee, and Rocky's. There are other hotels in the area, but these seem to be the most popular, and are all guest friendly.

There are two major beaches in the area. Playa Alicea, and Playa Sosua. Playa Alicea is a peaceful beach. You can sit in the sand and nobody will bother you. The beach is very clean, and it is a nice place to relax. This is not the place to look for women, though.

Playa Sosua is where everyone goes from around noon through around 5PM. As you walk towards the beach, you will see a number of dive shops, souvenir shops, art studios, etc. As you reach the beach, you see the restaurants. There are plenty of places to eat, drink, and party right by the beach. I saw quite a few available women strolling the boardwalk. They will make their presence known. After around 5PM, the beach starts to clear up, the restaurants close, and everyone starts to leave.

At around 6PM, the place to be is Rhumbas. Rhumbas is on the corner of Dr. Rosen and Pedro Calisante, right by the yellow taxi stand. You walk in, grab a seat, and enjoy the show. There are women to satisfy all tastes in this place. As the evening progresses, the women rotate. I suggest if you see somebody you like, you let her know right away. On my first night one young lady passed by that was absolutely perfect in my eyes. On a scale of 1 to 10, she was an 11. I decided to wait for her to walk around the room, and that was my biggest mistake. I never saw her again for the remainder of my trip. Anyway, the going rate is about $1500-$2000DOP for a short time. Some girls will take $1000, but $1500-$2000 is the rate for most.

At around 11PM, everyone moves over to D'Latin Disco on the same block on Pedro Calisante and Camino Libre. Some people complain that it is too enclosed there. I found it just fine. It was neither hot nor cold while I was there. The music is very loud, though. It is difficult to talk to the girls and negotiate. It does seem a little more high end than Rhumbas, though. While Rhumbas reminds me of a beer bar in Thailand (a place I am familiar with) , D'Latin reminds me of a high end disco. The music is very good, ambiance is that of a disco, and the bartenders put on a pretty good show as they serve the drinks. They seem to enjoy themselves here. The prices for girls here are the same as at Rhumbas (as they are the same girls). $1500-$2000 for short time. I didn't try to take anyone for TLN, but my understanding is that it would cost around $3000.

At 3:00 AM, if you are still in the mood to party, you can head to After One which is located in the same building as the Sosua Bay Grand Casino. That's the place where everyone goes after 3AM. The cover charge is $200. The music and drinks are great (same DJ and bartenders as D'Latins) , and the crowd is lively. If you are not in the mood to party, you can save the cover charge and just pick up from the many girls hanging out in front of the club. Chances are you can negotiate $1000 much easier at this time.

If you want to head out to Cabarete and you want to be adventurous, walk down Calle Dr Rosen to Ruta 5 (the main road from Puerto Plata to Cabarete and beyond) , cross the road and stand near the taxi stand. Every few minutes, a Publico (or Public Car) will stop. You will know it is a public car because it has a blue sign on top that says where it goes. Most will say Puerto Plata / Cabarete. When you get in, ask to get off in Central Cabarete. The correct fare is 35 pesos. It helps to have correct change in coins. Coming back, take the Publico to Sosua Central for the same fare. They will sometimes try to scam you for a higher fare, but if you look like you know what you are doing, pay the correct fare and just walk, you will have no problems.

Cell Phones and Electronics (Topic of the day) :

I brought my ten year old Palm Treo with me. My iPhone stayed locked in the hotel safe and was only used to browse the web, do email, and stuff like that. The Claro store was closed when I got there so I went to the Orange store next to Banco Popular. When they tried to get me a sim, the system to check passports was down. As I left, one of the ladies there offered to sell me a customers sim for $100 (the same price as if I bought it new). She (the Orange salesperson) gave me the phone number, added $200 pesos, placed the sim in my phone and tried it out. I walked out with a number with no passport or I'd needed. I had no problems throughout my trip with any random calls, the phone service worked great, and I didn't have to worry about anyone stealing my phone. I recommend leaving the toys at home. Remember, you are on vacation.

When it's time to head back to the airport, you should be prepared to leave Sosua at least two hours before your flight. It will take ½ hour to get to the airport, ½ hour to check in and get through security, and that gives you about 1 hour in case anything goes wrong. Taxis are plentiful and can be found in front of the hotels along Calle Dr. Rosen. The fare to the airport is the same as from the airport, $25USD, or $1200DOP.

Final thoughts:

I can see why people get addicted to this place. It is very laid back. If you are awake, you should not have any problems. Leave the attitude at home. Don't accept unwanted help from strangers. Drink, but don't get drunk. Honor the deals you negotiate with the chicas. Lock up everything in your room because they will try to take advantage if you make it easy for them (as can happen anywhere else).

It is easy to strike up a conversation with non-pros and semi-pros. They respond well to advances, and if you are looking for it, you can find a really nice girl to start a real relationship with here. Before my trip I signed up for Dominican Cupidad and made a number of contacts and got quite a few phone numbers, but once on the ground I realized that it was a waste of time and money as I never felt the need to call any of those young ladies.

There is something for everyone in Sosua. If you are a hardcore monger that like sport fucking, you can get your fill. If you are like me that likes to mix mongering with non mongering activities, you will find lots to do in the area, and the beaches are fantastic. If you don't monger at all, but are looking for love, there are plenty of places away from the night scene where women will be receptive to your advances.

I had a great vacation, I got a bit involved with someone (definitely not my usual M. O, but I followed through because I wanted to see how it would turn out) , and I decided I will definitely return there soon.

Lastly, I know some on the board swear by resorts like Blackbeards, among other places. I personally didn't find it necessary to go to a place like that. Everything you might need is readily available on the streets of Sosua, and if you just exercise a bit of caution, leave the attitude at home, and don't flash your wealth, you will be safe and you will be able to get all the women you can handle without needing to go to a resort.

I want to thank my new friends, the Party of Six, including Shamester and Bunda Man who I hung out with on this trip and they helped make it a very memorable vacation. You will definitely meet some very cool people if you are willing to talk and make friends.

You may not agree with all my opinions, but these are my personal observations as a first time (but definitely not a last time) visitor to Sosua.

Really? I don't know if you're lucky or just very fortunate. It really is no state secret. One can follow what Charles Pooter or Frannie wrote only recently and avoid most of the pitfalls and I am not speaking of DR alone (although the Haitian women part would be relevant in the DR from Pooter's perspective, I guess).

Excellent, balanced, thoughtful and level headed assessment from a "newbie". Should help calm nerves of those waiting on the wings, that are scared by the "shenanigans" in the DR.

Only one comment: I only did Pto Pta airport once but at the other airports, they check your passport along with the $10 card. This is before the immigration queue so I cannot see how one can claim " naci en la capital" and get away.

Sosua is like a mirror, smile and it smiles back at you. If you have a negative attitude it will inevitably throw more shit back at you.

That's the thing about Sosua, we all go down there with different attitudes and expectations.

I read this the other day, and I think it applies.

Besides, regardless of what the guy told you, in order to enter without paying for a tourist card you must be a citizen which means you must enter on a Dominican passport.

I am not so sure that the average business person in the DR has an expensive phone. When I have seen them with smart phones, they are usually the cheaper models, and anyway if you have the really expensive ones insurance is available including for robbery.Of course you arent sure. But one doesn't have to be sure, just aware that enough individuals in the DR own and carry expensive phones. So there is no reason to be all paranoid over bringing ones phone or other gadgets with them on vacation as if nobody else in the DR has the same stuff.

Anyway if you are willing to lay down your life for your cell phone, then good luck with that, and you won't be the first.Thats just an asinine statement not worth addressing.

People are asking how to avoid these kind of catastrophes in the DR. Yes, one method of risk management is to lock up your valuable stuff carefully, but another is simply don't bring it down in the first place, thus sidestepping the whole issue.I think it's quite apparent people can chose either option. However for those individuals who arent easily swayed by vets with an agenda, they don't have to fear carrying and using their equipment while on vacation. Especially when enough chicas are walking around owning and carrying phones they don't want to lose either. The key issue here is, if you choose to bring your equipment on vacation, do so but don't do obvious stupid shit.

Any item left out in the open will garner the wrong type of attention. It doesn't have to be an expensive item. The key is to secure anything you value. If you don't need your phone or any other item while out of your spot / hotel, then leave it in your spot and / or lock it up.

Yes, you can bring your $700 phone if it is essential for whatever you need, or if the amount of money sunk in the phone is not significant to you, but just be aware that it is likely to attract interest of the wrong kind. The mere fact a person on vacation is there spending money, living in a hotel, can attract the interest of the wrong kind. You don't need an expensive item for that to happen. Whatever it is you are trying to deflect from, the bottom line is, it is not asinine to spend money on an expensive phone, nor is it to carry and use one while on vacation in the DR. If one chooses to leave their phone home, so be it. No shame in that. I still have a iphone 3gs that I used when I 1st came to Sosua. That was the expensive phone at that time. And yet I still have it. Same with my 1st gen ipad. Now with all that wrong kind of interest all around me, I should have had the shit stolen by now. But I don't live by individuals that say the sky is falling because they want to be an authority for the masses. I simply use basic common sense when it comes to anything, especially stuff in my possession. Most people losing stuff to theft is through not being aware of the company they keep or not securing their stuff. Issues I have not have had problems with since 2008 when I 1st started going to the DR.

1) Avoid "the Strip" after 11. 30pm. Pretty harmless before then. That area attracts all the scum of the island, and a lot of scum from abroad.

2) Choose haitianas rather than dominicanas all other factors being equal.

3) If you have to drink, do it by daylight. By "drink", I mean in amounts which might affect your judgment. A couple of Cuba libres just to be sociable never hurt anyone.

4) Have as little contact with Dominicans as possible. I mean those who try to attach themselves to you or offer "help".
Except for perhaps No. 3 this is the worst advice I have ever seen. If you have to follow these rules why go to Sosua at all. I love Sosua but I couldn't if I followed these rules.Fair comment, Bimmy. I am sure 99% of guys have a good time in Sosua without following all my advice, and 90% have a good time without following any of it.

But remember the context in which I posted it. I was replying to someone who was so nervous after reading all the horror stories online that he might not visit the DR at all. Which would be a shame and quite unnecessary. I went way over the top to try and ensure a 99. 9% safe environment for him.

A quicker way would have been to say "go to Blackbeards or Field of Dreams" but from the tone of your post I would imagine you would be the first to agree that he would be missing out on a lot by doing that,

However you have shamed me into modifying my rather smartass and over-casual comments as above in bold.

Maybe that makes me eccentric.

The valuables that you can't avoid bringing are your passport, driver's license, cash, and a debit or credit card, and managing these items and not losing them is all the stress I want.

The percentage of people carrying the latest model $700 phones in the DR is much, much lower than in the US. Of course chicas value their phones, but hardly any have the latest $700 models, and even so they often have their phones stolen or lose them. Phones are particularly vulnerable because people carry them with them, place them on restaurant tables, lay them down to wash their hands, have sex, etc. They can fall out of pants pockets when sitting down in taxis.

I have no particular agenda. I just want guys to have happy and safe trips and great sex.

Tip, tax, it's the same in my book. I paid an airport use tax on my ticket so I consider this redundant. Unless this tax pays for the dudes playing Merengue on arrival. Then I guess it's ok.No it is a tax that goes to central government, not to the guys who play the tunes. Most people would regard $10 per passenger as excessive for a tip for those guys who play the same few bars as each tourist approaches and shake a hat for pennies. The tourist tax is only payed on arrival, but the bachata band guys play on both arrivals and departures. Mostly they collect on departures because people give them the small change pesos they got stuck with in the duty free shop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWdUTTOiFD0

The reason the tax is not included in your ticket price is that natural born or naturalized Dominicans do not have to pay it and the airlines can't make that determination.

Here in Florida if we buy a computer online from Tiger Direct which is based in Florida, we have to pay an extra 7% sales tax plus variable county taxes, but people who order from out of state don't have to pay it unless they live in a handful of other states that charge various rates of sales tax. See how this works? Not everyone pays the same price. It is a bit similar to that business with the tourist tax in the DR. Some people are exempt from paying it. Of course some people cheat by various manoeuvers, for example mailing something to a friend who lives just over the border in Georgia. Such is life.

The rest of your report was excellent, by the way.

Frannie

Actually there are two parts to the tourist tax, but most people only see the first part, a $10 fee for a stay of up to 30 days, however if you stay MORE THAN 30 DAYS, then additional fees kick in based on length of stay, as follows.

http://www.migracion.gob.do/web/tarifas.php

These fees (or tips if you like) will be charged to you on departure, based on the date of entry stamped in your passport. In Santo Domingo you can go straight to the overstay tax desk and pay, then take your receipt to the passport control officer. I think it is the same in Santiago, not sure about Puerto Plata as I have not used that airport in the last few years.

At Santiago and Santo Domingo they normally look at your passport where your place of birth is shown when they issue the card on arrival. They may be a bit slack at Puerto Plata. In any case, if you try to pass through the tarjeta collection check point without one, you will be sent back (I see it all the time with people who do not know about purchasing the tourist card) , or if you explain that you are Dominican born, I imagine they might check your place of birth on your non Dominican passport to verify this claim. It probably is not worth trying to cheat to save $10.

The expense of the phone isn't the most important issue. Also, the % of who is carrying the latest model or if it cost $700 is irrelevant. The point is, any device one possesses may be valuable to that individual. And since you refuse to grasp a basic point, I am going to say it a little differently. In the DR people from all over own devices that are valuable to them. The device may be considered expensive to them as well. In spite of that, many people (dominicans, foreigners, expats etc) are owning and using these devices daily and not had problems with theft or loss just because they are in the DR. What you are talking about is not enough reason for a person to entertain not buying an expensive device, nor a reason not to bring it on vacation.

Moreover, many folks can afford such devices, have no problem buying another one if the need arises. Now if you can't do that or have a problem doing that for whatever reason, thats entirely your issue alone. If the theft or loss of an expensive phone is going to cause you grief and sorrow, again thats all on you. For you to come on here to claim it's asinine to buy an expensive phone or to have a US sim card in the phone in the DR, you got something else going on besides supposedly trying to help people.

Can anyone comment on the road that takes one from San Francisco de Macoris to the North Coast (at Gasper Hernandez) via Tenares? Google map is showing some strange routing on checking directions and I was wondering if the road condition is comparable to the one at Luperon that brings you to Sosua across the mountain from Santiago.

Frannie, that's a lot of info on tourist taxes.

Yes, I understand how it's supposed to work. And I understand the concept of the tax. In theory, the immigration agent that stamps your passport should look at the receipt and if she doesn't see it she should send you back to the tax collector to pay your tourist tax. In practice, that's not how it seems to work, at least not for me in Puerto Plata. The agent that collects the tax told me that I should have said that I was born in DR and I wouldn't have had to pay the tax. He gave me the receipt when I paid and I put it in my pocket. The immigration agent that stamped my passport never saw the receipt.

Like I stated in my post, this is not for everybody to try. If you can speak decent Spanish, look Hispanic, or can pass for Hispanic, you might give it a try.

The hassle might not be worth it for some travelers. Then again, some enjoy the challenge of seeing what they can learn, what they can get away with, and trying something they might not normally try in their everyday lives.

It's not too different than the guys who recommend arriving travelers go upstairs to the departure hall to catch a taxi to avoid the taxi fee in Bangkok, or the guys who recommend trying to take the employee airport shuttle from the airport into the city. In Macau, I regularly take the casino shuttle from the ferry terminal to the casinos and store my luggage in the casino baggage check before I promptly walk out of the casino and straight to the nearest sauna for my good time. I don't spend a dime in the casino, yet I use their services. I do tip the agent at the baggage check, and the driver of the shuttle.

I see this as just another way of trying to save a penny here and a penny there. If anybody is in any way uncomfortable trying it, then I definitely recommend just paying the $10 and avoiding the stress.

Again, the tourist tax collecting agent himself told me I should have said I was born in the DR. I didn't invent the scheme. I just passed it on to my fellow mongers.

I am glad you enjoyed my post, as I enjoyed putting it together. I hope it can help someone who has never been there visualize what they will see and experience when they get to Sosua. It is definitely not all the gloom and doom that some report. If anyone is thinking of going there, stop thinking and just go. It is too easy to have a great time there.

Remember that those of us who live in Gringoland have much more money than those in Sosua. The average waitress in a restaurant earns the equivalent of $7. 50USD per day for a 12 hour day. 6 days per week. One of my friends told me that the people in DR don't work to live, they work to survive.

You pay the chicas anywhere from $1000DOP to $2500DOP for between a half hour to two hours of work. It is not difficult to give a bartender or waiter or waitress $100DOP for their service.

Tip the security guard and maid at your hotel a couple of bucks.

Talk to the bouncers at the clubs. Make friends with them. Buy them a cold beer or bottle of water once in a while.

These gestures pay dividends.

I was in Sosua for only six days, but the bouncers all knew me. They approached me to shake my hand during the day while I walked around Sosua. The service staff at my hotel ironed my clothes at times without my asking.

If you treat the working people nicely in Sosua, greet them, spend a moment to talk to them, they will treat you nicely.

I'm not talking about approaching a motoconcho driver and asking how he's doing. Or approaching one of those cash changers who sit on the corner trying to get your attention (I know they are up to no good). I'm talking about befriending the regular service staff that you will normally meet over the course of your day while on vacation.

. But the bachata band guys play on both arrivals and departures. Mostly they collect on departures because people give them the small change pesos they got stuck with in the duty free shop.

I agree completely that's how to best operate in Sosua, and get the most pleasurable experience out of it.

With that attitude you probably have a good time wherever you go.

This is an interesting and very well reasoned riposte. I thought your comments on tourist tax were kind of greenhorn but I see that there is a logical line that may induce some to try it out. Hopefully the faint of heart would not try it, which might be the reason why some are objecting. Personally, many times, I have tried a "carro de ruta" from the Santiago airport to get to where I go, instead of using the cab service. Not using the taxi mafia was one thought but trying out a different experience in the wee morning was another.

I particularly appreciated your thinking on tips. If you are a newbie in the DR, it is even more commendable 'cause evidently you looked at angles that for once, I did not, despite 5-6 trips so far. The fact that someone makes a paltry $7.50 for a 12hour work day makes you pause, even without getting into the potential positive transactional outcome of tipping. Thanks for that. As Oakie commented here, that attitude of empathy alone goes a big way to enable you to enjoy the people and place. I call it the law of good Karma.

In particular, I enjoy your writing style, clean, incisive, matter of fact and what draws my attention, no grammar or spelling errors; Makes reading a serious pleasure. Welcome to the board!

P. S. That Macau trip of yours made me think of my solo trip there. Long back. I do not enjoy casinos but did that once for the experience as well as the horse race in Hong Kong. This was when Macau was still a Portuguese territory.

Count me in as another who has made multiple trips without any serious hassle.

Sosua is like a mirror, smile and it smiles back at you. If you have a negative attitude it will inevitably throw more shit back at you.

That's the thing about Sosua, we all go down there with different attitudes and expectations.

I read this the other day, and I think it applies.

"Mommy, why do all the idiots come out when Daddy's driving?"I never said anything about having any serious hassles. I said squeaky clean pass. When talking to most Vet about the DR for the mongering sport. Most Vets giving newbies words of caution and can give many examples.

It really is no state secret. One can follow what Charles Pooter or Frannie wrote only recently and avoid most of the pitfalls and I am not speaking of DR alone (although the Haitian women part would be relevant in the DR from Pooter's perspective, I guess).Really? My complete comment was "When people know that you're a new in the area they take advantage of your politeness and lack of knowledge. Street hustlers the police and chicas can pinpoint newbies a mile away. If you're by yourself that makes you a bigger Target for their bullshit. I applaud any newbie that has been on this site for information prior to there trip" That's strange for you. Or. Just like you to make the above statement after saying "I also went around before there was Internet / forums like this and all by myself just the way I still do. Never had any problem that I can think of, anywhere, whether it was a business or a pleasure trip". I said that you were lucky or fortunate. You come back and say "It really is no state secret. If you are born in the DR and have a US passport you do not pay for the 10 tourist Visa. I have a family member that was born in the DR has dual citizenship and no DR passport. He does not pay to enter only travels on his US passport. You are correct in a case in which a dual citizen does not have DR passport, my statement was based on the assumption that someone traveling out of the country would have obtained passports in both countries. If your family member were to have passports to both countries then he would in fact have to enter on his DR passport.

Without the info gleaned from this forum, I never would have discovered the monger paradise that is the DR and particularly Sosua, and for that I'll be eternally greatful.

But like all reviews you have to pick and choose advice that fits your own personal style.

I've stayed in some wonderful hotels, but reading the reviews, on say, Expedia, Trip Adviser, Travelocity etc. It's hard to believe they are talking about the same hotel.

Your mileage does indeed vary.

If your family member were to have passports to both countries then he would in fact have to enter on his DR passport. He has never had a passport before, he is an American citizen due to an American parent. He got his passport a few years ago and recently traveled to the US on his newly minted passport that states it was issued in DR and he was born in Santo Domingo. As for using the passport, if he had both an US and DR passport he could choose to fly on whichever one he wanted. As long as the flight manifest had the same passport he showed entering and exiting the countries. I had an issue recently with US CBP and my passport for some reason or another was not on the manifest and I had to wait while they cleared it up. Clerical error of some sort. In the DR, they really don't check that well and their systems do not have the checks that the US systems have. The strange thing about his passport was when he was leaving DR on an American passport that did not have an entry stamp, that confused the agents a bit.

To make it simple, and get back more on topic issues, why don't you guys agree that if you bring your shit, it is at your own risk, and if you get ripped off promise to not complain about it here?It is just a discusssion about different styles of risk management.

My own life experience is mostly in health care and in that area the general tendency is to reduce risk by restructuring the physical environment rather than trying to change human tendencies such as the desire to find shortcuts for everything.

For example by having the Prilosec 20 mgs capsules stored in a different drawer from the Prilosec 10 mgs capsules and a set up that mechanically prevents both drawers from being open at the same time, and opening the drawer by tapping on the touchscreen showing the correct medications of the named patient one reduces the overall probability of the wrong dose or wrong drug being given to the wrong patient (very simple example). You could contrast this with the much older methodology of having stock bottles of each drug lined up on shelves in the medication cart.

In another industry, perhaps building, one would have an entirely different kind of approach, maybe setting up multiple protective measures, such as putting a razor wire fence around the site, and employing a night watchman or dogs to protect the valuable materials stored there. Or perhaps you would use a "just in time" system to get materials to the site only when they are needed.

People learn from their own life experience and tend to bring those ideas with them to other areas of their existence. Thus people have different ideas about safe mongering, because there is no definitive professional literature or research on the subject.

My daughter is a dual citizen, I am from the U.S. and her mother is Colombian. When I applied for her U.S. passport the agent cautioned me to make certain when bringing her to the U.S. that she had both passports because she would need the U.S. passport to enter the U.S. and the Colombian passport to enter Colombia and would be denied entry otherwise. Here is a link to the U.S. Department of State explaining the rules, fourth paragraph down:

All this talk about safety, risk management, scams, and stuff got me thinking.

Yes, I did some research before this trip. There is a ton of valuable information on this and other message boards. A lot of the veterans have posted tons of useful information that is of great service to first timers in the area, such as myself.

Yes I did hook up with some DR veterans, including some members of this board. That is definitely not my usual way of doing things, though. In all my travels around the globe, I have only met a couple of ISG posters. I usually travel alone.

Having said that, I found Sosua to be extremely easy, and the information I gathered was for the most part definitely helpful but not necessary. I try to have a very good attitude, I don't accept help when I am not the one requesting it (there is usually some kind of scam involved). I don't hand out tips to anyone who asks for tips.

I try to learn the language wherever I go. That means learning some Thai when I travel to Thailand, learning a bit of Chinese for my trips to China and Macau, picking up some phrases for my trips to Japan. You don't have to learn a lot, but people appreciate when you try to learn about their language and culture. I am a native Spanish speaker, and I grew up among Dominicans so Sosua was just like going home.

I am in no way rich, but I know I earn more than most in Sosua. Therefore, I do my best not to rub my so called 'wealth' in their faces. I don't dress fancy (although I don't wear tank tops and flip flops either). I don't wear expensive watches, use expensive phones, wear big gold chains, or use my iPad outside of the hotel. I don't pay for a beer with a $2000 peso note.

I am not above getting a haircut among the chicas getting ready for work. I don't mind buying a chica that has been sitting and talking to me for a 1/2 hour a beer. I do let her know from the get go that I am not going to take her. I found that even like that, a lot of girls liked to sit down with me and just chat. I enjoyed that, and they seemed to enjoy talking with me.

I don't stop and talk with guys offering to take me to find chicas when I am standing among a thousand chicas, same as I don't talk to tuk tuk drivers in Thailand who offer to take me to get a massage while we are standing in front of a hundred massage parlors. These guys are hustling. I walked into D'Latins at 8PM one night and the place was empty. The bouncer offered to help me find a seat. I said 'Thanks, I didn't think I would be able to find a seat'. He laughed and said don't be angry at him for trying to hustle. We actually became 'friends', but I could see that he wanted customers for his empty (at the time) club.

When I walk around Sosua, I do exactly as I do when I walk around Washington Heights. Anything that can happen to me in Sosua can happen in Washington Heights so I try to be aware of my surroundings.

I applaud all who post helpful information on this board, and I applaud all who do their homework and seek this information. But if you have the proper attitude, OPEN YOUR EYES, and are careful, you can manage Sosua without much advance information.

It is just a discusssion about different styles of risk management.

People learn from their own life experience and tend to bring those ideas with them to other areas of their existence. Thus people have different ideas about safe mongering, because there is no definitive professional literature or research on the subject.Thing is, risk management is an argument to which there is not one correct answer. That was my only point. We all have different value systems.

For example early on I was asked by friends if Sosua was safe. I had travelled all over the Island (with GF) and felt as safe as if I was home. One guy went on my advice and had nothing but trouble. He came back complaining of a "typhoid outbreak" (overblown report in the local press during the Haiti earthquake). Expats being murdered, etc, and said he'd been totally ripped off by locals. It was the 'worst place in the world" to vacation, he told everybody, and I was looking rather stupid for telling them how good it was.

I'm asked by a friend if it's OK to park on my street when visiting me. In 3 years we've never had a parking ticket, but you guessed it, when they left there it was.

I take my laptop and an "expensive" phone down there with me to stay seamlessly in touch with work, but I also prefer a room on the ground floor, and with those sliding patio doors, I know I'm taking a risk right there, but that gear is supplied by the company, and it would be replaced, so I'm not concerned.

But could I recommend my preference to others? No, of course not. I learned the hard way.

Since, as you can tell, I'm an unabashed fan of the DR, I have considered moving down there semi-permanently. I'm at retirement age, and I could manage it fairly easily.

But, all the expats I have met down there, hotel owners, bar owners, retirees etc, have had a lot of bad experiences, assaults, home robberies, threats and so on. They'll tell you about it if you ask them. Some have gone home. Others have learned to live with it.

I came to the conclusion that, even with good security provided by apartment and condo management, I wouldn't be able to live in a permanent state of alert. A routine walk every day could be an invite.

As for buying a house on the hills outside town, forget it. I've talked to folks who keep a gun, and dogs. You are a mark for anyone who needs money badly, and one day they'll need it badly enough to come to your place.

So, for me, a vacation is one thing, a permanent life down there is just a risk I wouldn't want to take, and that's a shame.

If others have a different take, I'd love to hear from them.

The valuables that you can't avoid bringing are your passport, driver's license, cash, and a debit or credit card, and managing these items and not losing them is all the stress I want.I agree with this. It can be a real hassle just keeping up with these things while doing all the activities that the area has to offer. The time's I have been here the place kept me busy enough I had no need to do any more research on a computer.

If others have a different take, I'd love to hear from them.I live in Santo Domingo. I still have residence in the states, so I am not technically an ex-pat. I'm here 3-4 weeks at a time and leave for a few day to conduct business face to face with clients. Most of the time I work remotely, all I need is internet access a computer and phone. I make a very comfortable living and am in my mid 40's. Very gringo looking, I speak dominican spanish fluently (now).

I started to respond to this thread earlier but it started to sound like a rant and I never posted my response.

I live in a gated community w / 24 hour armed security in the Capitol right off of 27th de Febrero. The community is populated by mostly middle class dominican families. I've been at this location for about 1 1/2 years. Before, I rented in an area that was considered by most to be a barrio. However, the people that I met in that neighborhood have become life long friends, in every sense of the word. I stop by to visit several times a week as do they.

My thought is this, in the touristy locations is where you see the dregs of Dominican Society. This is an area that largely derives its income from vice tourism, with that you get the prostitutes, pimps, touts and every other hustler looking for a peso. The money the tourist will bring in is known, if you are on vacation you will have money to spend on things the people in this area have to offer.

I don't live near a beach, I don't live in a fancy condo. When I do go to the beach it is a local beach, almost no tourists. I don't get the touts, chicas looking to come with me, people selling their wares. Sometimes I need some tourist crap, when friends or family visit, then I venture into those areas.

Now with all that said, the crime I have been personally victim to was getting the batteries to my inversol robbed. I had an iron cage created for them but I did not lock it so I guess that would be my fault for making it so easy. A lesson learned for 16K pesos.

Crime is a part of the DR, but so was growing up in Brooklyn, NY. I used to wake up to gun shots in the middle of the night, my apartment got broken into 3 times, I was a victim of attempted robbery, I had the grill from my car stolen twice.

Here, I've never been robbed, my car has not be broken tampered with.

I'm a little busy now and will continue my report later.

Cage, you have built a regular life so things will be different for you than for the typical monger who says he wants to live in DR. You have an "everyday life" routine. Most guys just want to come and chase women. I'm about to leave my buddy's in Santiago now. He is 60 and retired and moves all around DR. He has lived in Sosua, Cabarere, Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, and East Santo Domingo. He was just complaining about how he is tired of this place. But he has no normal routine. All he does is get on the internet to find girls to come over.

Then, he constantly complains that they have too many kids and are after money. He has one on the way from Navarette right now. A minute ago I had him ride with me to drop my one of my girls off at work. She is a DJ at a radio station. He was so anxious because he didn't want to miss he girl. (He has been waiting on her all day. She was supposed to be here earlier but you know how they are.) I told him to trust me. If she has taken the bus all the way from Navarette then if she beats us back she is still going to be there waiting when we return. When we were riding back he said how he had never been to this part of Santiago. LOL. He is a 5 minute WALK from downtown, yet in 10 weeks he has never been to downtown Santiago. I was like are you fucking kidding me!

I do my best not to rub my so called 'wealth' in their faces. I don't dress fancy (although I don't wear tank tops and flip flops either). I don't wear expensive watches, use expensive phones, wear big gold chains, or use my iPad outside of the hotel. I don't pay for a beer with a $2000 peso note.Exactly what do you mean by not rubbing your so called wealth in their faces? When you mentioned you don't dress fancy, don't wear expensive watches, don't use expensive phones, don't wear big gold chains, don't use your ipad outside of your hotel, and don't pay for beers with $2000 peso notes. Were those supposed to be examples of how you don't rub wealth "in their faces"? If so, what is your reasoning for deciding you should do that? Is this from preconceived ideas of how you feel enough dominicans think / feel? Or did you have some sort of experience to make you feel the need to make those adjustments? Or was it from advice you received from friends or forums like this? What is it?

Part of why I am asking, is because quite often it appears some people assume and have preconceived ideas of how others may think about them. So they invent ways they think will counter any adverse behavior or treatment. Or simply hoping they will be accepted more.

The part that really stands out for me, is your decision not to use an expensive phone, not to use your IPAD outside of your hotel or not paying for a beer with a $2000 peso. If those were part of the examples of you not rubbing wealth in their faces, that IMO is taking things to an extreme. I can understand you may be kinda new to Sosua and you respect much of the info you learned from forums, but is it really that important/necessary to do that? Exactly what damage or mistreatment do you suspect you'd garner if you didn't take those measures?

If you were to go to most of the restaurants in a tourist area, including at the playa, everywhere you go people are using their phones, ipads, laptops, cameras etc. All the guys I spent time with in the DR in the last 3 yrs use their devices. And I / we werent thinking we were rubbing wealth in anyones face just by using an expensive phone, IPAD or laptop. 1st of all, many dominicans come from all over to be in a touristic area, like Sosua. They expect to see people on vacation with the stuff you may consider so called "wealth". If they don't like it or have a problem with it, then they shouldn't come. But so called wealth is what draws them to come to where you vacation. So why should anybody be concerned about offending anyone? I can see one not wearing an expensive watch / jewelry, or not dressing fancy.

But thats mostly because fancy watches / jewelry, or fancy clothes, is not needed or practical for an extremely casual environment. A phone, IPAD, laptop on the other hand can be very useful for those that use them. As far as paying for a beer with the $2000? I just think it makes sense to use a smaller bill. It doesn't have to be about trying to avoid rubbing wealth in ones face. The truth is, a lot of establishments don't like large bills for small purchases. And not having small currency can even cost you more if not careful. Like taking a moto that costs 25 pesos, but all you got is 100 peso bill. Motos are notorious for saying they have no change.

Even in the states, if you bust out with a $100 dollar bill for an item that cost $2, the proprietor might have a problem with it, or refuse to accept it. In fact, in the states you might find a sign telling you they don't accept certain denomination bills. It could be $50 or $100. In the DR they seem to have the same policy but without signs present. So, producing a $2000 peso for a beer is impractical for an environment that avoids such bills for small purchases, but not necessarily is paying with one (for a small purchase) rubbing wealth in anyones face. If a person still can't help from feeling that way, they can tell the person they are going to give a fat ass tip ($500 or $1, 000 peso) , I'm sure when you rub that wealth into their pockets instead of their faces, aint nobody going to have a problem with that. I'll await your feedback.

I live in Santo Domingo.

I'm a little busy now and will continue my report later. Thanks, that sounds a lot more encouraging.

Looking forward to hearing more!

(And by all means feel free to "rant". LOL)

I see I've stirred up more conversation.

Mr. E, you are correct I have a somewhat normal life. Not normal by US standards but I live quite well down here. Right now I'm in my air conditioned office with my 2 cell phones, one with Skype and a US number the other my local DR number.

I conduct business on a world wide scale, right now dealing with companies in Canada, US, UK. I am a home worker and everyone thinks I'm in NJ.

I have a housekeeper making my lunch. Woke up to a BJ and fuck from my live in novia, who right now is at the university. Tonight I'm going to the Casino, dinner and my 3 some (I hope).

Tomorrow probably the beach, probably palenque, no chicas no touts not many vendors. Sunday to my friends for drinking and dominoes. All very cool and relaxed.

All my friends here are true friends in every sense of the word. They give without expecting anything in return. The most they've asked from me is to bring something from the states that they either can't get here or is too expensive, they always pay me back. I'm included in most family functions, I know their relatives, their kids.

The truth is there are good people, and bad, everywhere.

When I go to DR I always dress down. Even still, my attitude is always to the extreme. Yesterday me and my girl were at the mall getting ice cream. The cashier rung it up and said it would be 150 pesos or whatever. I pulled my crocodile wallet out and tossed it across the counter to her and told her to take out what I owed.

I just took the new Santiago bypass up to Puerto Plata. I just wanted to check it out. I didn't know it was a toll road. I had to pay 100 pesos at the end. They had a sign up that said "No 2000 peso bills." If you are already in Santiago then I don't recommend taking the road because you have to backtrack to get to it. It took me 59 minutes from the beginning of the new road until my arrival at the La Sirena in Puerto Plata. I do drive fast anyway though.

I passed where they are building the cruise ship port. I still can't see people from the ships going to Sosua because it is damn far. Right past the location there is a sign that says 9km to Puerto Plata. I just arrived at my girl's house where she is cooking it up for your boy.

Cage, you have built a regular life so things will be different for you than for the typical monger who says he wants to live in DR. You have an "everyday life" routine. Most guys just want to come and chase women. This might be a factor.

I knew a guy who married a Blackbeards girl and built a house near Charamicos and was plagued by home invasion robberies FIVE times. (Imagine what that does to your property's resale value.)

On the other hand, there are lots of ordinary Dominicans living in the area who are not particularly in fear of crime, other than having wrought iron cages over their windows, of course. The fact that hotels are legally obliged to have armed night watchmen is something of an indicator that the presence of dollars may attract predators. We don't seem to have the same thing at motels in the US.

I have lived more than 2 years in the DR and made about 50 trips and never had much of a problem, but then for the most part I don't hang out in prostitution circles, for example I have never had chats with the owners of various chica bars or the owner of Passions, which some people do on their first visit. It does not surprise me that they have many tales of evil doing, moving in the circles that they do. Talk to night club owners in the UK and I think you will find the same thing.

I guess you feel safe until something happens to you, and then you don't. The worst thing that even happened to me in England was a home invasion by two guy in my apartment in Liverpool, England who held a knife to my throat. It was a case of mistaken identity and they were looking for the guy who lived downstairs who had some teenage runaway staying with him who these guys were trying to pimp. So this might indicate that even innocent students (as I was) who are geographically close to people engaged in prostitution and / or crime may be more at risk of being victims of crime themselves. Could this also apply in Sosua?

You sound like you are really organized down there.

I've stayed in Abajo and Charamicos with locals and it's free of street hustlers, with the exception of of a local chica who tries to grab me when I go to the store for beer and wants to dance, but it's all in good fun. She wants me to go to the banios with her where she'd give me a free BJ (or so she says).

But I'd feel cramped living in a place like that for more than a few days.

But I may think hard again about making the move. Thanks for the post.

But if you wanted to live in N. A. Style, with all the conveniences we take for granted, then yeah, it would be a problem.

When I go to DR I always dress down.Compared to Florida, Dominicans tend to dress quite well. For example women cannot go into government offices wearing low cut tops or short skirts, nor men wearing shorts. I saw a very comic thing once at the office of the family court judge in Puerto Plata (not a courtroom).

A man had come in to sign custody papers for his child, accompanied by his lawyer. He was wearing below-the-knee jeans type shorts. He was allowed in the reception area, but not allowed to enter the judge's office to swear and sign. So his attorney went out the back door and took off his black suit pants and gave them to the client to wear so he could sign the documents while the attorney hovered at the back door clad in black jacket, white shirt, tie, boxer shorts, socks, and shoes. Fortunately he had decent legs. After the signing was over he got his pants back and gave his client a ride in his car to the parada.

No wonder lawyers are expensive.
I just arrived at my girl's house where she is cooking it up for your boy.Note the iron bars on the kitchen windows.

In Charamicos proper, there's not much to steal, so I don't see iron bars on any windows.People often have fridges and TVs in even the humblest dwellings, (plus their iPhone 5's of course, some would say) , but maybe iron bars are not in vogue in Charamicos, though you will see them on the buildings along the highway in Charamicos. My amigo's house was actually at Puerto Chiquito, so outside the town in a subdivision type setting, or a gated community with no gate.

This page has several photos of a mission in Maranatha, near Charamicos, and some of the pictures appear to be typical homes with iron bars.

Exactly what do you mean by not rubbing your so called wealth in their faces? When you mentioned you don't dress fancy, don't wear expensive watches, don't use expensive phones, don't wear big gold chains, don't use your ipad outside of your hotel, and don't pay for beers with $2000 peso notes. Were those supposed to be examples of how you don't rub wealth "in their faces"?I think you are taking this a bit too literally. What he means is probably that things that seem entirely normal if you are coming from the US might easily attract the attention of predators in the DR, and it seems plausible that some individuals may come to Sosua precisely because there are rich pickings. Paying for a small item with a 2000 peso bill is not significant in itself, but other people in the bar might take note and deduce that there are likely to be other 2000 bills in the person's wallet.

It is fairly rare to run into problems getting change in the US, but it is more common in the DR. In the US these days most people can make relatively small purchases using a debit card in almost any business, especially if it is a corporate chain or franchise, which is nearly everything in a state like Florida. In the DR cash payments are more common.

I tend to do that, ask for feedback moreso than consistently assuming how people think (thinking in somebody elses head) in their posts. And then end up being wrong and stubbornly refuse to accept being corrected. Moreover, adding insult to injury, ignoring the key issues and start deflecting and making up irrelevant shit that has nothing to do with the original discussion/argument. On a brighter note I'm headed back down to Sosua next week.

My last trip was to re-connect and take care of some social obligations.

This time I hope to be free as a bird.

For the first time I'm treating myself to a week at the Terra Linda, so we'll see how that works out.

It'll be the week before Easter, and the flights are good value right now.

The chica who was calling and texting non stop since I got back has now got the message. She wanted to meet me at the airport. It was only a question of time before she complained she had no dinero fro credita. I assume she meant to top up her phone card. No way Jose!

Sure I'll see her down there, because she's good in the sack, and anyway that's what they all do.

Unless anything unusual happens down there I don't intend to bore you with a blow by blow account.

Phuker said it all for me in his last Report.

I am neither rich nor poor. But I live in a city where few people need to sell their bodies in order to make money to eat and take care of their families. The fact that the number of chicas is up tells me that it is very difficult to make a living in the DR. The things we take for granted (iPhones, iPads, fancy watches, and expensive clothes) are much more difficult for the average Dominican to get.

The waitress at the place I have breakfast at in Sosua sat down with me when she saw my iphone 5s and we started calculating. She said she would have to work 4 months without buying so much as a piece if chewing gum it be able to buy the 5s.

Years back, I was married to a Dominican and every time we visited her family in Santiago her brother would beg and plead endlessly for me to leave him my sneakers, my jeans, my watch, my underwear, everything. My wife (at the time) asked me to leave as much as I could to him because it was easy for me to get the stuff back home, but it was difficult to impossible for him to get them in the DR. So I always returned home with an empty suitcase.

These two people are people I trust won't steal from me. I grew up among Dominicans and I know they are really hard working, friendly, and trustworthy. I also know that there are some that can be lying, manipulating, crafty, and creative thieves. But you can run into these kind of people anywhere in the world.

Whenever I am in a place with a high rate of poverty and crime (usually where pussy is for sale at reasonable prices) , I try to keep a low profile. I don't rub my wealth in anybody's face. I let the guys with the iPads and iPhones and Rolex watches become the targets.

I have travelled the world and have never been robbed. The girls don't care if I wear a tuxedo or shorts. They don't care if I have an iphone or two cans and some string. They don't care when I don't spring for the motoconcho and make them walk three blocks in high heels through potholes, mud, or donkey shit. They don't care if I take them to the Hilton, or if I fuck them in an alley. All they care about is getting paid. All I care about is fucking girls.

My advice is sound and it works well for me. I don't suffer, I dress casual, and I don't feel any inconvenience when I travel. I advise people who are new to ANY area to leave the luxury gadgets (yes an iphone is a luxury gadget as 10 years ago there were no iPads or iPhones yet business still took place) at home or locked in the hotel safe until they are comfortable with the area and can take a few more liberties. Any other advise would be reckless.

Every week in the paper in Thailand you read about a Russian who had his or her gold chain snatched. Sometimes you even read about a Thai chick getting hers snatched. I have never had one snatched because I am not fool enough to wear one in places that I know attract the dregs of society.

Some years back an Italian guy was in Rio to attend his son's wedding to a Brasileira. The guy and one of his other sons were walking in Ipanema which is one of the better neighborhoods of Rio and frequented by tourists. The father had on a nice gold chain. At the time there was a robbing crew called the Bicycle Gang. A youngster rode by on a bicycle and snatched the father's chain and rode across the street. The son gave chase. As soon as he stepped into the street he was hit by a bus and died. I'm sure the father never thought that attending one son's wedding would mean another son's funeral. If you do decide to carry whatever item and you get got, just chalk it up as a loss.

Last night I noticed more chicks than before are wearing braces on their teeth. Many of them only had them on the top row and many were missing the long piece of metal that goes across. I asked one what happened to hers and she said she was eating chicken and they broke. Surely the girls are not the ones paying for braces or they would take better care of them. Either that or they make some cheap (quality-wise) ass braces in DR.

For the people who are living in DR, how are you affected by the brown outs? Does it happen in the neighborhoods where you guys are living? Everytime I am at a chica's house the lights go off during the day time. Sometimes the water is off as well. This bit of infrastructure is something to consider for those thinking of moving here.

I pulled in last night at 7 and went to Rocky's to get some ribs. They have either gone to shit or it was an off day. They were not as good as they usually are. I left there and went up in front of El Flow, which was empty. I gave Tomjackin a call and he just happened to be right across the street at Rumba. I went over and he had the best seat in the house. Right at the door.

I pulled up a chair next to him blocking the passageway to the front, left side of the joint. He was drinking his usual vodka and oj and I was on the rum and coke. I had never seen that many girls in Sosua in the seven years that I have been going. I think three drinks later is when we left and went next door to D'Latin. It was about 10:30.

I was feeling randy and I monger for the adventure, not for the pussy. Since I didn't have a place to stay (I never book anymore, I just go with the flow) I came up with the idea that whatever chick I chose I would have to stay at her place for toda la noche. I called one chick over and asked her how much for all night. She said 100. As in dollars? I was laughing my ass off out loud. She went back over to her friends. A friend of Tomjackin's girl (to me he had the best girl in D'Latin) came over and sat a while. She told me we could go to her place and it would be $50. That sounded like a damn deal to me. Before I left I made sure to ask for how long. She said 1 or 2 hours. BULL-SHIT. I let her go about her way.

The next girl turned out to be the winner. She was over near the door with her aunt when I called her over. She said 2000 pesos for all night. I said that is a deal, and we will stay at your place because I don't have one. She agreed. I don't remember how many drinks we were into at D'Latins (must have been 3 or 4) , but both me and Tomjackin were ready to call it a night. It was 1130pm.

Me and my girl walked to the car. I had parked in front of New Garden. She pointed the way. It was a back alley hotel in Charamicos. She was from San Francisco and said her and her aunt come to Sosua to make money on the weekends. She said she had one two year old kid. I made a joke that we would make a brother or sister for the kid tonight. She said that would not be possible because she was already pregnant. WTF? She lifted up her shirt and her pouch was kind of hard to the touch. I asked about the baby's father. She said her husband just died yesterday. She was in pretty good spirits for that to be the case.

She was texting back and forth with her aunt. I asked what they were talking about. She said that her aunt said I needed to give her extra money to pay for the room. The price they paid was for 2 people and the place would charge additional for another person. (And she said to remember that if her aunt didn't find a customer there would be 3 of us in the queen-sized bed for the night.) I'm like how are they going to know? I didn't see an office or anything. We just went through some pissy alley and there we were at the room. She said they saw when we came in. I'm like who saw? Anyway she said I would need to give her 500 extra. I agreed. She said so 2500 for me and 500 for the room. I said BULL-SHIT. I will just get my shit and leave then. She said well what about my time that I already spent with you? I said fuck your time. It was my time too. She said okay 2000 would be fine.

We did the do then went to take a shower; or rather pour water from a bowl on our bodies, rub with soap, then pour more water. There was a big ass roach on the shower curtain staring at me during my turn. I dried off and got into the bed. I acted like my eyes were closed but I was watching her text someone whose name was ____ esposo _____. I assumed it was her husband. We finally fell asleep.

I was having all kinds of crazy ass dreams. The aunt arrived and woke me up with all kinds of noise. I feel back asleep while she was getting ready for bed. I woke up again before she got into the bed. She looked straight out of the movie Dead Presidents ready to rob the money truck. I tried to get back to sleep with that image in my head. I was sleeping ***** style, or is it called pimp style when you are in the middle and women are on both sides? I would fall asleep with my arms around my girl, wake up, turn over, and put my arms around the aunt and under her shirt– with a hard dick poking her in the ass I might add. Fall back asleep and wake up and turn and do the same with the other girl. Finally I had to rub on some tits and pussy. The aunt's body felt so damn good I couldn't resist.

At 730am I had had enough of that small ass bed and decided to wake up and get ready. I went to brush my teeth. WTF? This raggedy MF don't even have a sink? I put my clothes on and gave old girl 2500 pesos. She said I was supposed to give her 3000. I said BULL-SHIT. The aunt asked where was her cut. I started to tell her that she could earn her cut in 30 minutes or less, but I was ready to get out of there.

I left and went to Rocky's and had breakfast. Finally I got to brush my teeth. I hit my girl in Puerto Plata up and told her that I was still in Cabarete. She told me to meet her at La Sirena in an hour. When I got to La Sirena I parked on the street and went in to buy water. I have another chick who works at the meat department there. Right when I was going up to my meat department girl, my main chick called my phone. I answered and told her that I was inside buying water. She said that she was inside too. Shit. What if she is looking dead at me talking to my other girl? I rushed the conversation with the meat department girl and told her to call me when she got off tonight and we could get together. I went and paid for my water and went to the bathroom. When I came out I saw my girl and her daughter in line. I told her that I would wait outside for them.

Now I am back at her house and she wants to go to the beach in Sosua or Cabarete now. Sosua here I come again!

I found this out on my last trip when one of my girls who was wearing the phony braces explained it was a luxury "lujo" that nobody could afford and the latest in style. My only concern was getting a cut on my dick when she was giving me head!Yeah I asked a chick last night why she had braces and she said because she liked them. So SavePros was on the money.

Mr. Enternational, do you know the name of the blond in your last photo? I took her but can't remember her name. She is really friendly and fun to be with.I don't do names. But you are in luck. The only reason I know that chick's name is because she is one of Tomjackin's regulars and he kept saying Lil' D.

I pulled up at Sosua beach and my girl protested. She wanted to go to Cabarete instead. I said this beach is good so we will go here. We walked down to Big D's and I had the rib / chicken combo and we both had pina coladas in the pineapple, hers without alcohol. There were some guys planning a big party the next day and were getting Big D to cater it. My girl said she was not going to get in the water at Sosua beach because she does not like it. When I finished eating I decided to take her to Cabarete.

As we walked back down the beach on the way to the car, we passed another aunt / niece combo that I met the night before. (Their pictures are included in the ones I already posted.) I was seriously thinking about taking the aunt that night, but some guy came into Rumba who she said was her good friend and she was going over to talk to him for a while. They had on the same clothes as the night before. I put my arm around my girl and tried to avoid eye contact with them, hoping they didn't speak to me as we passed each other.

We arrived in Cabarete and I parked the car across from ScotiaBank. We walked down the beach and she started saying how she didn't like it. I said I told you that Sosua beach was better but you refused to listen. We sat on some beach chairs and a guy came and collected 100 pesos each for using them. He asked if we wanted any food or drinks but we declined. My girl said that she didn't want to get into the water. I told her that if she didn't go put on her beach clothes immediately then we would have a problem. I drove all the way to Cabarete because she complained about Sosua and now doesn't want to put her beach clothes on in Cabarete either. She reluctantly went to change.

The kite boarding looked very interesting so I stopped at the shop to inquire about learning. The lady told me that lesson were $50 / hour and it takes most 6 hours to learn at a rate of 2 hours / day. I'm definitely considering signing up next time.

On our way out to Cabarete we saw the signs for Dulce Secreto cabana. We decided to stop there on our way back through Sosua. We took the 600 peso room. I'm not sure how much time you have for that amount. At most cabanas that I have been to the normal time is 4 hours. To me, Dulce Secreto is one of the best cabanas that I have been in, better than many DR hotels even. It was clean and modern and I didn't even have to wait for the hot water to warm up. It was definitely the best shower that I had in Santo Domingo, Santiago, and Sosua during my six day trip. I will post the pictures in the Sosua Hotel thread.

When I got to my girl's house in Puerto Plata I gave Tomjackin a call. He said that he and RonnyRon were sitting in the hotel restaurant. I told him that I would be there in 30 minutes. He said hurry the fuck up then. When I got there we chatted for a while then walked up to Rumba. I was having fun fucking with chicks any way that I could as usual. I met some chick who was from Santo Domingo and said she was going back tomorrow. I told her that I would be driving to Santo Domingo in the morning at 6 and that she could ride with me if she wanted. She told her wingwoman, but the wingwoman made a face like she didn't want to leave that early. Shit, it was a free ride and they could have slept on the way since I would be doing all the driving. We exchanged information but when I called her this morning she did not answer, so I left without her.

After a few drinks at Rumba we went next door to D'Latin. After one drink I was ready to head off with a chick. Of course the price was right; 1500 pesos until 6am. I drove past Ollie's to get a sandwich but it was not opened, so I stopped by the place next to Four Roses and got three pieces of chicken for 100 pesos. The girl I took lives in Cabarete, and since I didn't have a hotel I decided to hit up Dulce Secreto again. WTF? It was full. We didn't know where to go. We ended up asking a motoconcho driver across from Texaco if he knew of any place.

I followed him to Casa Angela. The guy there said the room would be $40. I told him I would only be there four hours. He said it didn't matter. I slipped the moto guy 50 pesos, but he still stuck around leading me to believe he was waiting for a commission. The room was nice (with the second best shower of the trip) and there was a pool on the premises. I may stay there next time I am in Sosua. We took showers and got our freak on. After it was over the girl said she had to get home to her daughter. What the fuck? You told me that you would stay until 6. So how much am I supposed to give you now since you are not staying to entire time? She said it was up to me. I told her that I would give her 1000. That was fine with her. She came out of the bathroom all dolled up. I told her that it looked like she was going back out to the strip. She promised that she was not. I grabbed my pants and told her that I was going back out there then. (I really wasn't going. I was just testing her.) She asked for 100 pesos to take a motoconcho. I gave it to her since I knew they would not have change for the 1000 that I had just given her. After that I got a quick three hours of sleep and at 6:45am headed off to Santo Domingo.

When I got to the airport I received a what's app message saying, 'Feliz viaje precioso. ' I asked who is this? She responded, 'The one who was with you last night, Juli. The one that you only gave 1000 pesos crazy. ' I said, 'That is very good for only one hour isn't it? ' She said, 'Yes thank you amor. Especially since I really needed it. You can't imagine how God will bless you. ' I told her, 'And I needed you until 6am, but you wanted to look for somebody else. ' She said, 'I'm so sorry. I swear that was not the case. I have never spent the entire night outside of the house. ' Until next time Sosua.

I will wager it was you and she just went along with it thinking to get the money shot first then renegotiate.

Or did it go like this?

You: "How about a fuck, babe. 1500 pesesitos is all I have left?"

She: "Sure thing, dude, but only if I can stay at least until 6."

Maybe she wanted to go back to the strip to find someone who paid better, or maybe she had to relieve a childminder by 6. Or get a child ready for school at 7. Who knows?

And how the hell did she get your cell number? You just picked her up in a bar.

I said in the report exactly what happened. 6am was the time I had to leave to drive to Santo Domingo to get my flight at noon, so of course that would be the time that I would want whatever girl until. When the girl said she had to go I gave her 1000 instead of the 1500 that we had initially agreed to. We traded what's app info because she is from Santiago and I am there more often than Sosua. You would think if she had a problem with me then she would not have contacted me of her own free will 8 hours after the fact and THANKED ME for the 1000, especially when she knew that I had already left Sosua. She never asked for more or even gave an initial figure. She left that all up to me. Even when she said she had to go and I asked how much she thought I needed to give her since she could not stay the entire time she did not give a figure. She said whatever I wanted to give her. The only thing extra she asked for was 100 for a motorbike taxi because I had given her a large bill so late at night. So where is the newbie mistake?

What was her complaint?I don't know. You know how women are. She said she didn't like Sosua beach because of an incident that happened getting hurt on the rocks in the water when she was younger. Personally I like the water and sand at Sosua beach better. She said that next time she would take me to a beach somewhere near Imbert that is very beautiful. It must be a lake or something since Imbert is more inland. She said it has white sand, clear shallow water for a distance out, and you could see the fish swimming around your legs.

So where is the newbie mistake?Sorry, it sounded to me like the tone of her messages was intended to be ironic, given that you can hardly get anything for 1000 pesos in the DR-that is about 23 dollars. Is she really that grateful? Maybe I am wrong and she was sincere, in which case she is incredibly dumb too.

The newbie mistake is to engage a chica for all night if you don't know whether she is really into you. The commonest newbie complaint on these boards is that a chica was engaged for all night and then wants to split early. Possibly this could be avoided by asking her if should would prefer a 1000 peso quickie or a 1500 peso all nighter. Bottom line is that most of the chicas who live locally have children, so have sitters who have to be relieved. Is her daughter in Cabarete or Santiago?
