I encountered very few people in any of the beaches while I was there. The only kind of crowded beach was in Cabarete on St. Patrick's Day. You cannot compare Sosua to Bangkok or Pattaya, the latter are bigger (especially Bangkok) in multiple ways and therefore will offer more options. If you live in North America, Sosua is quite convenient and only a few hours by flight compared to Thailand which takes me one full day to get to from where I am. It also costs 3-4 x as much to fly there. I love Thailand as well, but if I really wanted to. I could be in DR tomorrow morning / afternoon, bang at least a few attractive women (and get GFE) over 24-48 hours, and be back at work Monday morning. Without breaking the bank. If I leave for Thailand tomorrow morning, unless my flight is filled with thai hookers willing to fuck me at 35,000 feet. I'm not even going to arrive there until Monday morning.
And for many people, the convenience and cost factor wins out. If you have 7-10+ days, and can adjust to jetlag quickly. Thailand is fantastic and you have many options. Chances are you won't get bored with so much to do / see. But for some quick weekend mongering, it doesn't get much better than Sosua when you are in North America.

In a week everything that could happen to him, short of lasting physical damage, happened. Pickpocketed, assaulted by a chica, scammed by bartenders, and stiffed by putas, you name it.
We've all met guys like that, but I don't think the average monger has anything to worry about if he behaves reasonably, and keeps his powder dry.

This is your fourth trip to Sosua, right? To be honest, you should be way past such questions by now. You should already know that:
(1) There are always mongers around to chat with and, if you get on well, to do things with. Post on here the day before you arrive. If you have paid a subscription here you can communicate by PM.
(2) You are wise not to rent a car if you are not comfortable with doing so, but it is very cheap, easy and safe to visit neighboring towns and villages such as Puerto Plata, Cabarete, Montellano, Gaspar Hernandez, etc. , by public transport. And further afield if you want a whole day out, to Santiago or Rio San Juan. I was doing all that, and more, by my second trip and I was a decrepit old fart on a tight budget and minimal Spanish.
But don't fall into the trap of taking on a Dominican "guide" or using private taxis a lot or they will soon relieve you of most of your holiday cash.

I woke up without a stitch of clothing on and had to get my bearings. I was in my hotel bed and there was a girl who was in the nude next to me as well. Now for what really matters. Dancing to the local music was a feature of quite a few bars, and you didn't need to go to Classico to do it.
I remember the Happy Bar, where the NY Pizza is now. The barristas would take turns dancing with the patrons (and drinking with them too). They were semi pros, and would hang with us.
I learned to dance again there, and it was always a pleasure to see some local Dominicano showing off his moves with an enthusiastic partner, sometimes even my GF.
Some of those girls are still around town but scattered. One, ironically, is working in the same spot for NY Pizza!
Over the years I heard a lot of newbies complaining about that same old music that you heard everywhere, and now instead you hear NA stuff blasting out everywhere.
But to me something special is being lost.

The putas are to the Dominican taste (to put it diplomatically) but so is the music, mostly merengue, bachata and a bit of salsa. Too loud for me, but so are most places here, and the atmosphere is friendly. Ideal if you already have a chica with you as Tempo did.
I would expect there to be at least one similar place in Charamicos (which would be more handy), but in all my years here I have never seen one or read about one. Can someone help out on this?

Just came back from Sosua after spending Friday and Saturday there. Had a young woman from Nagua visit me for the first day / night. Like most Dominican women, she is into dancing the various Latin dances and so I took her to Classic at 11 PM - 200 pesos for me to enter. I have practiced the Bachata. A rhythm I love. And wanted to try it out with this woman, who can do salsa, bachata, merengue and what have you. I thought it would be fun on the dance floor. By the time, it was mid night the place was quite full and I realized there were many rather attractive women, none of whom I have ever laid eyes upon on the street. Clearly these women, had other modus operandi.
As the music continued, I identified one Michael Jackson number which was nice to dance to and a couple of Bachata and Merengue numbers. None of which I was familiar with. I thought, I would wait a little longer. Certainly DR has a rich musical history and they would play the local music. Was I in for a surprise? By the time I left, around 2.15 AM, the dance floor was essentially cornered by a majority of single males, from someplace else, who were expressing themselves as they probably do in NYC / Chicago clubs to the tune of what is called music there. Since then I have learned the language and learned how to dance. Dancing bachata has helped me get so much pussy here in the states. Now when I go to Sosua I am always looking for an opportunity to dance Bachata. Seeing the look on the chicas faces and hearing them say things like "Dale" and "El Tigere", when they see how well I dance Bachata is priceless. But as you mentioned, it is not very common to hear a lot of Bachata in Rumbas or Classicos these days. I always solve this little problem by telling a chica to request some Bachata. Then I ply the DJ with a drink or a small propina. This always gets the job done and I get to dance to my favorite songs. It goes a long way with the chicas. GFE is almost guaranteed. Guys-- some of you may have swag but you got to step your game up. You've learned they language. Now it's time to learn another aspect of the the culture. I will be in DR tomorrow and dancing bachata in SD, that's if the snow doesn't keep me grounded.

The chicas love that music, they start to move when they hear it. I was in Santiago yesterday evening. Being carnival time, on a Sunday, there were zillions of people on the street for the festivities. All dancing to various rhythms. As they walked. Indeed seeing little kids to young teenagers. Dancing, was a little disconcerting but yes, dance and music is in their blood.
I am meeting with the 1st sister on a Saturday night and do not want to take her to Classicos. Neither of us need to see the parade of putas. She would be put off and I would be turned on. She taught me bachata. I.
Am very close to 60 but I still love to dance and like you guys have said the girls love to dance as well. I love Bachata and use it as an ice breaker for the ladies. They are often surprised with my dancing and sence my joy. I listen to Romeo Santos and Prince Royce when I hit the gym. Thanks for the jnfo on the local dance hall. La Union.

So about 8 km from El Batey or twelve minutes drive.
Rio Verde is on the far side of Cangrejos. There is an iron bridge over the (well named) river as you leave "town". The dance-hall is immediately before the bridge to the right with a car park in front. Some (all?) of the putas live in a two-story block at the back of the car-park. I am told you can do them in their rooms, but even if I did find a rare diamond in the rough that would be too squalid for me.
Obviously it is on the publico route and the drivers all know it.
Could be dead midweek but lively enough on Sat and Sunday from about 8.00pm.
If you sit outside the main roof it is not as noisy, but then you do not get such a good view of the dancers. In summer when the water level is low the river can stink, but no problem in winter. Drinks cheaper than in Sosua but restricted choice of imported labels.

You went to Classicos, in the middle of the strip in the middle of the town that makes money from tourists. If you had gone to one of those Italian restaurants or Rocky's would you think the Dominicans no longer eat mangu or salami or rice and beans, and are now only eating pastas and ribs? I went to a car wash in Nagua and all they played was bachata. The place would've revolted if someone put on a "North American" tune, be it Young Thug or Taylor Swift. On the other end of the spectrum, the expensive La Pasion night club in Santiago, all they played was Dominican music as well. Even by a live band. So local stuff is still alive and well, at places catering to locals.

I was merely speaking of this specific town and a specific dance hall in comparison to my foray last time I was inside, several years back. It had a North American flair then too, but certainly not so New York. Is that I found this time.
BTW, presidentes (small): 150 pesos, Jose Cuervo (cheaper one) Tequila shot - 300 pesos. If I recall, last time, an entry used to entitle to one free drink. Perhaps it still does, but no one told me about it.

If you or your friends have this then stay away from this place. You may go 10 times before it happens but at some point you are going to be hooked. I have to admit it is better than being hooked on drugs but has a stronger influence on your mind. When it happens you will know right off something has changed in that ole brain because all of a sudden you went from thinking about being there every other day to thinking about being there every hour.
Having this as a sport is great but when the game last more than a few days playing the same team it turns super great for all that is playing. Something good can happen in the DR for those who will let it. Like others have said chemistry is everything either it is there or not. Just like daylight and dark.

Also, one will now be cautious about staying at Perla because there have been issues about manner of payment. Even after Lewis went missing there were still people paying by credit card to stay there. The new owners, who are now in jail for having forged documents of the place, were asking people to pay them directly. Also, the former owner, Brent Lewis, was also responsible for Sosua Rentals, Renta Villas, Adult Mancation and a couple of other ventures. Last year, while I was there, he had set up some activity involving some chicas. In other words, rentals, activities and ventures that someone on this putaboard might have taken advantage of in the past and/or plan to take advantage of in the future (which, in this case, might now be a mistake since the owner Brent is now missing). It would be regrettable if someone on this board, in the future, paid for any of this only to lose their money!

How fucking dumb that they do not have the bus at the airport.
So, like me on Monday I will try to share a taxi to SD and take the bus.
I getting in too late for 11 am Metro bus, so I have Caribe Tours.
Caribe Tours (809-221-4422; www.caribetours.com.do; corner of Av 27 de Febrero & Av Leopoldo Navarro; and Latest departure for Caribe Tours is 7 pm. Travel time to is 3 hours and 30 minutes, and the fare is 320 pesos.
Metro (809-227-0101; www.metroserviciosturisticos.com; Calle Francisco Prats Ramrez) have individual depots west of the Zona Colonial. Caribe Tours has the most departures, and covers more of the smaller towns than Metro does. http://www.caribetours.com.do/viajes.
In Santo Domingo, the Metro bus station is located at Av. Churchill and Calle Francisco Prats Ramirez. Metro departures for Sosa are at 7 am, 11 am and 4 pm.

As for staying, I have not been in Sosua for 13 years, so I am going to try Rockys. I asked for a quiet room in the back. I sure that will not happen, but it is cheap.

Sosua Suites isn't exactly quiet, but it's not loud either. It's right across from Rocky's, and the apartments are spacious and clean. During the night you can hear a little bit of music from the bars nearby, Rumba's is right around the corner. But it's a convenient location, if you are on the second floor it's a good view of Calle Dr Rosen and some talent that walks by at all hours of the day. There is a security guard on site at night.
If you want quietness, I'd suggest Casa Cayena. Well priced, the rooms are clean and comfortable and you have breakfast and dinner included in the price (if Wilfried still has that special which I believe he does). It's about a 4 minute walk from Rocky's and it's still a convenient location. Actually a good number of hotels in Sosua are within walking distance of all the action, I don't think I've stayed anywhere that isn't more than a 5 minute walk. And it's pretty safe to walk around (as long as you're being sensible. Don't wear a noticeable watch or pull out your smartphone where it's visible to everyone.) There are lots of punters walking around at all times during the day, during the night I'd advise some caution. The less people you see on the street and the later it gets, the more vulnerable you become. Common sense stuff.
If you're able to fly into POP, the action is just 15 minutes (maybe not even 15 minutes) away. I'll fly into STI because POP is a more expensive airport to fly into, or sometimes I'll fly into POP and leave out of STI.
Is Sousa Sites quiet? Is there another place close to Rocky's comparable price that is quiet? Thanks

If you really want quiet, try Casa Valeria. IMO it's almost too quiet. Casa Cayena is great, but it can be a bit noisy, depending on who your neighbors are.

24 March to 30 March looking to go to Sosua for the first time. Any info on where to stay would be greatly appreciated. In addition, what is the best way for me to get there from Santo Domingo.

MWhen I flew into Santo Domingo, I took a cab from the airport to the caribe tours bus station. And from the bus station in Sosua I got into a motorcycle. I can't remember the prices but it wasnt much.
In sosua I stayed at Casa Cayana. If you want to be close to the action stay at new garden. Casa Cayana is isolated from the action. Girls don't hang out there. If you are looking for a quiet place then try casa Cayana. At new garden there are plenty of girls who stop at the bar or just walk up and down the street. IF you see one that you like you can call her. At casa Cayana you will have to walk to rumba or the main street to get girls. Its only 5 min walk thought. Both can work for you depending on what's important to you.
Next time I may try casa Valeria and new garden.

Hello all. Particular thanks to Charles Poota (haha) and all those who helped me on my first trip to DR last year.
I have now spent about 4 1/2 months in total in the Puerto Plata area over the last 14 months. About 1. 5 -2 months in Costambar and the rest in Sos.
I used to love the D Latins and was very disappointed it shut down after my second trip. For now, I like Classicos and After 1 as I am a late night guy and love music, dance and ambiance of the sexy looking pro chicas!
Finally, I decided I want to learn Bachata and hope to take lessons this upcoming trip and also practice with some Cupid Chicas. I love the ambiance of all the chicas at Classicos, After 1 (Thur. , Fri. And sat after about 245 am until 5 am) and the Latins I loved while it was open. I only interact with the pros on the dance floor and buy drinks etc. But limit myself to the Cupid chicas for companionship. Yeah, I am a bit different, perhaps even strange and maybe a dud! Who knows? I can only do what works for me. FWIW.
I enjoy the true dominican culture, the food like rice and beans and just observing the families on the beaches. I've also spent some time at the all inclusive resorts on many occasions with Cupid chicas and did BB for 5 days on my first trip (did not care for it). The pros don't work for me at all, and other than on my first trip while at BB's and 2 at the DLatins, the rest have ALL been the semi or ocassional pros. I've kind of got this Cupid thingy working for me. I never mention money and discretely put it in their purse when they leave. I do bring gifts like 100 ML brand name perfumes, earrings and so far 3 cell phones, shirts / blouses / Brazilian bikinis and a for / with a few some shopping locally. However, in the end, they all do better with me than the 2000 they might get in a day and I treat them well to fish at the beach at top resturante or at a Baileys etc for good meals and quality drinks. And I have only stayed at Casa Cayena or apartments in Costambar, within 3 minute walk to the beach and the chicas all get breakfast and meals while with me.
I see some chicas on follow up trips and it is usually 1/3 from previous trips and 2/3 new chicas. I don't care at all (zero for the 1-2 hour thing) and prefer 1-3 days at a time. So, the total number of chicas I have been with are probably a fraction of most guys here. But that's what I like and what works for me.
The intent of this post is to share. Since I hadn't in some time. And also to suggest (like some others here) that staying away from the hard core pros, venturing into the quiet and low key Dominicanas (I stick to between 4-8 on the top 1-10 scale, and stay away from the 9's and 10's. Because I like the personality of the 6's and 7 's the best) and perhaps trying to show some of them a good time (the non hard core pros) , not mentioning pesos upfront, and always making it pesos Płus gifts worth at least 1000 pesos each per Chica for each 1-2 days and still ensuring they leave happy and exceed their expectations (by discreetly giving them about 2000 per day of cash, so they leave with at least 5000- 7000 or more for each 2-3 days, besides meals and good entertaining times).
In my solo and subjective opinion, the hard core chica situation in SOS is pretty sad and I strongly believe that visitors who are coming now are reaping what the visitors who came before them have sowed. Meaning many, if not most, treated them poorly, the chicas live in their Echo chamber of the other chicas, ricocheting stories off each other while at Rumbas, or on the phone and via texts.
Guys come and guys go...back to their regular non DR lives....but these chicas have to live it day in and day out....there are no jobs and the education system in the DR in school is shit! They have no skils and no opportunities. These chicas cannot survive anywhere other than in the DR, even the non pros. But, if we collectively keep up, not at least trying in some small way, to give them some little thing to hang their mental hat on....something that says we did not treat them poorly....then things will only get more and more trashy in SOS 1-3-5 years down the road. If you don't care, then they don't care. Of course, please nobody end up trying to marry these pros or semi pros, or trying to change them, or take them out of the DR or whatever....in 98 % of the cases it simply will NOT work. But, perhaps trying to bring some temporary brightness and lift up the spirits of the non hard core chicas is worth doing? This is just my opinion, from my observations, and interactions while there with both chicas and amigos. And of course, reading the posts here. Sorry state of affairs I must say....the playing field is soggy, quite a bit muddied up and the pro chicas are learners .....and they have learned the hard way with what many have been shoved with.
I am sure many will not like what I say and will disagree strongly. And that's fine...and I happy to be slapped around here....but guys please think about changling the approach some ?? Please.....
May be another way to approach the Non pro DR chicas. If Cupid chicas bring up pesos or ask me to wire them dineros or ask me to bring them an iPhone I just delete that one and focus on the others. I never ask them to send me pics (because Cupid has pics and in 2/3 of the instances I also get to see their Facebook pages. I review everything carefully to form a composite view (subjective, of course) of each chica by seeing the FB posts, the ones by their friends etc and also branch out by contacting their FB friends and friends of friends.
Anyway, in closing, one request, if anyone has any suggestions for me or where, with whom, when and how to really learn Bachata well, when I am Sos in the coming weeks (for 2-3 weeks) I would really appreciate it. Of course, I am happy to pay chicas for helping me learn Bachata. My interest in this is longer term, because I think I am really liking this dance form / expression and it gives me different ways to experience and live the culture and enjoy life in a more diverse and interactive way. And of course it has greater staying power for pleasure and enjoyment, versus say a 30 minutes quickie.
I have taken a lot of time to observe, gather feedback, look at facts and reflect on all of this for more than a year. So, I am not just posting without having thought about all of this for quite some time and critiqued myself, as well as my observations. And, these are just my observations and suggestions. Take it for FWIW or just delete, say pass, or chuck it mentally into a mental trash can. Irrespective, it is worth some reflection on the part of all and maybe some small slight adjustment in approach. The chicas will not do this...they are incapable of doing anything, because they have no options, and find themselves at the receiving end of an experience.
Sure, yeah, there are bad chicas, who will take an amigo for all they've got, rip them off, steal whatever....but IMO 75 pc of the chicas are not crooks, thieves or bad apples. They are just trying to survive and many probably do enjoy a lifestyle of fun and excitement...clothes, dance, music, booze and whatever. After all, they are all pretty much in the 18-28 range.

Here is a guy who has his own system and it works for him. He seems to live in the real world and is not trying to impress anyone else with bullshit or philosophical generalizing. Incidentally, I don't remember ever helping him, but am glad if I did in some small way.
As for learning bachata, I suggest he spends time at Rio Verde, recently discussed on this board (post #23434 and subsequent). It has the double advantage of being a local dance-hall for family groups and couples and at the same time incorporating a brothel so there are always putas available to spend time with him and teach him to dance. I don't know how good his Spanish is, but he would need to make it clear he is not paying hourly rates for sex just for dance practice. The girls rarely get customers for sex during opening hours and work for small tips to dance with customers or sit at their tables, so I am sure Haven123 could offer them more without breaking the bank. Most of the chicas are not very attractive, but all he needs is one who is patient and pleasant.
The only possible place I can think of within Sosua (please chip in if you have other suggestions) is Rancho Tipico which has recently expanded its dancing area but the chicas there are more used to sponging off gringos and would be more demanding. Some very attractive haitianas there, but they are not the best bachata teachers.
Either place he should avoid the weekends, as the quieter the better. More room on the dance-floor and less competition for the chicas' attention.

Thanks for the info.Yes, you can crash at one of the cabanas close to the airport. I can't remember the name of the one I use, but they have short term rates and "sleepover" rates. Not much good arriving in Sosua at 3:00 am Plus it can be a bit hairy driving at night and difficult to avoid the potholes! What you spend on the cabana you will save from spending a night in a hotel in Sosua.
Also driving from that area, I would recommend taking the Santiago toll road by-pass which you enter fairly near the airport (a couple of miles towards the city, so near the cabanas) instead of trying to drive through Santiago in the morning traffic.
There is an ATM at the airport available 24 hours. Banco Popular on the outside concourse of the airport. To your right as you exit customs and immigration.

Frannie posted a great piece a while back that I thought was particularly enlightening, when he recounted all the effort these chicas have to expend to travel, look presentable and be available for our pleasure.
Basically it boils down to putting yourselves in her shoes for a moment, treating them respectfully and you can get more bang for your buck.
And, dancing is definitely the way to do DR.

This is the only place I have stayed at in SOS. Probably over 50 nights in total over the past 15 months or so. Wilfried the manager, who leases the property from the owner is a great guy and a good manager, with a really good team and excellent service. There is nothing free. Breakfast and dinner (optional for a higher price) is included in the price. Again, it is not free.
Unfortunately, Wilfried is dealing with a hip issue needing surgery so my heart goes out to him. But, he is still managing everything as always. A real trooper!
In my opinion, Casa Cayena is a very good option, but I have a watchful eye because the place is a bit jerry rigged. A lot of patchwork in the rooms, bath etc because of an aging property that is leased by him. So no real infrastructure improvements, just enough patchwork to get by.
The wifi, while decent, can be spotty and in and out! The water pressure in floors 2 and 3 poor. The 2 male chefs are quite decent, however more recently one of the cleaning ladies is trying her hand at being a chef, once or twice a week and she is not good.
Location is great for me, but may not work for all. Security is good and tight, no cedula / I'd means no entry for anyone. No exceptions. They check it and keep the cedula until the chica leaves. This is one reason why I stay here, and the safe of course. I tip everyone and bring the girls who work there small gifts every time. So, for me the service is great. And, I love Wilfried. He is the reason I never consider any other options. Superb manager.

But I guess from the way you see things, all the "all inclusives" in Puerto Plata could just take the all inclusive part out of their offering semantics / marketing, and just keep current prices, but instead say all food and drink and all shows are complimentary and / or free.
Same difference. Wilfred knows who he is competing with and has a kitchen with daily fixed labor cost he needs to feed. This way the kitchen is not a cost center, but holds it own weight in his mind, with a kind of implied transfer pricing out of the bundled price offering.
Basically, this is bundled pricing, versus unbundled pricing in business school lingo. It's product positioning, differentiation and competitive and perceived value positioning. Trust me, there is absolutely nothing, zero, nada, nien, nicht, that is "free" in this universe. And there never will be.

I have now spent about 4 1/2 months in total in the Puerto Plata area over the last 14 months. About 1. 5 -2 months in Costambar and the rest in Sos.
I used to love the D Latins and was very disappointed it shut down after my second trip. For now, I like Classicos and After 1 as I am a late night guy and love music, dance and ambiance of the sexy looking pro chicas!
Finally, I decided I want to learn Bachata and hope to take lessons this upcoming trip and also practice with some Cupid Chicas. I love the ambiance of all the chicas at Classicos, After 1 (Thur. , Fri. And sat after about 245 am until 5 am) and the Latins I loved while it was open. I only interact with the pros on the dance floor and buy drinks etc. But limit myself to the Cupid chicas for companionship. Yeah, I am a bit different, perhaps even strange and maybe a dud! Who knows? I can only do what works for me. FWIW.
I enjoy the true dominican culture, the food like rice and beans and just observing the families on the beaches. I've also spent some time at the all inclusive resorts on many occasions with Cupid chicas and did BB for 5 days on my first trip (did not care for it). The pros don't work for me at all, and other than on my first trip while at BB's and 2 at the DLatins, the rest have ALL been the semi or ocassional pros. I've kind of got this Cupid thingy working for me. I never mention money and discretely put it in their purse when they leave. I do bring gifts like 100 ML brand name perfumes, earrings and so far 3 cell phones, shirts / blouses / Brazilian bikinis and a for / with a few some shopping locally. However, in the end, they all do better with me than the 2000 they might get in a day and I treat them well to fish at the beach at top resturante or at a Baileys etc for good meals and quality drinks. And I have only stayed at Casa Cayena or apartments in Costambar, within 3 minute walk to the beach and the chicas all get breakfast and meals while with me.
I see some chicas on follow up trips and it is usually 1/3 from previous trips and 2/3 new chicas. I don't care at all (zero for the 1-2 hour thing) and prefer 1-3 days at a time. So, the total number of chicas I have been with are probably a fraction of most guys here. But that's what I like and what works for me.
The intent of this post is to share. Since I hadn't in some time. And also to suggest (like some others here) that staying away from the hard core pros, venturing into the quiet and low key Dominicanas (I stick to between 4-8 on the top 1-10 scale, and stay away from the 9's and 10's. Because I like the personality of the 6's and 7 's the best) and perhaps trying to show some of them a good time (the non hard core pros) , not mentioning pesos upfront, and always making it pesos Płus gifts worth at least 1000 pesos each per Chica for each 1-2 days and still ensuring they leave happy and exceed their expectations (by discreetly giving them about 2000 per day of cash, so they leave with at least 5000- 7000 or more for each 2-3 days, besides meals and good entertaining times).
In my solo and subjective opinion, the hard core chica situation in SOS is pretty sad and I strongly believe that visitors who are coming now are reaping what the visitors who came before them have sowed. Meaning many, if not most, treated them poorly, the chicas live in their Echo chamber of the other chicas, ricocheting stories off each other while at Rumbas, or on the phone and via texts.
Guys come and guys go...back to their regular non DR lives....but these chicas have to live it day in and day out....there are no jobs and the education system in the DR in school is shit! They have no skils and no opportunities. These chicas cannot survive anywhere other than in the DR, even the non pros. But, if we collectively keep up, not at least trying in some small way, to give them some little thing to hang their mental hat on....something that says we did not treat them poorly....then things will only get more and more trashy in SOS 1-3-5 years down the road. If you don't care, then they don't care. Of course, please nobody end up trying to marry these pros or semi pros, or trying to change them, or take them out of the DR or whatever....in 98 % of the cases it simply will NOT work. But, perhaps trying to bring some temporary brightness and lift up the spirits of the non hard core chicas is worth doing? This is just my opinion, from my observations, and interactions while there with both chicas and amigos. And of course, reading the posts here. Sorry state of affairs I must say....the playing field is soggy, quite a bit muddied up and the pro chicas are learners .....and they have learned the hard way with what many have been shoved with.
I am sure many will not like what I say and will disagree strongly. And that's fine...and I happy to be slapped around here....but guys please think about changling the approach some ?? Please.....
May be another way to approach the Non pro DR chicas. If Cupid chicas bring up pesos or ask me to wire them dineros or ask me to bring them an iPhone I just delete that one and focus on the others. I never ask them to send me pics (because Cupid has pics and in 2/3 of the instances I also get to see their Facebook pages. I review everything carefully to form a composite view (subjective, of course) of each chica by seeing the FB posts, the ones by their friends etc and also branch out by contacting their FB friends and friends of friends.
Anyway, in closing, one request, if anyone has any suggestions for me or where, with whom, when and how to really learn Bachata well, when I am Sos in the coming weeks (for 2-3 weeks) I would really appreciate it. Of course, I am happy to pay chicas for helping me learn Bachata. My interest in this is longer term, because I think I am really liking this dance form / expression and it gives me different ways to experience and live the culture and enjoy life in a more diverse and interactive way. And of course it has greater staying power for pleasure and enjoyment, versus say a 30 minutes quickie.
I have taken a lot of time to observe, gather feedback, look at facts and reflect on all of this for more than a year. So, I am not just posting without having thought about all of this for quite some time and critiqued myself, as well as my observations. And, these are just my observations and suggestions. Take it for FWIW or just delete, say pass, or chuck it mentally into a mental trash can. Irrespective, it is worth some reflection on the part of all and maybe some small slight adjustment in approach. The chicas will not do this...they are incapable of doing anything, because they have no options, and find themselves at the receiving end of an experience.
Sure, yeah, there are bad chicas, who will take an amigo for all they've got, rip them off, steal whatever....but IMO 75 pc of the chicas are not crooks, thieves or bad apples. They are just trying to survive and many probably do enjoy a lifestyle of fun and excitement...clothes, dance, music, booze and whatever. After all, they are all pretty much in the 18-28 range.And your's is the best report I have ever read! Honest. To the point. And your conclusions are inescapable. But I guess from the way you see things, all the "all inclusives" in Puerto Plata could just take the all inclusive part out of their offering semantics / marketing, and just keep current prices, but instead say all food and drink and all shows are complimentary and / or free.
Same difference. Wilfred knows who he is competing with and has a kitchen with daily fixed labor cost he needs to feed. This way the kitchen is not a cost center, but holds it own weight in his mind, with a kind of implied transfer pricing out of the bundled price offering.
Basically, this is bundled pricing, versus unbundled pricing in business school lingo. It's product positioning, differentiation and competitive and perceived value positioning. I have booked a flight to Santiago mainly because of good rate and easy short connections. But the arrival is at 1 am. I have booked a rental car and hope to drive to Sosua.
Does any of the members think I should just stay one night in a nearby hotel for that night and go to Sosua next day?

This is the only place I have stayed at in SOS. Probably over 50 nights in total over the past 15 months or so. Wilfried the manager, who leases the property from the owner is a great guy and a good manager, with a really good team and excellent service. There is nothing free. Breakfast and dinner (optional for a higher price) is included in the price. Again, it is not free.
Unfortunately, Wilfried is dealing with a hip issue needing surgery so my heart goes out to him. But, he is still managing everything as always. A real trooper!
In my opinion, Casa Cayena is a very good option, but I have a watchful eye because the place is a bit jerry rigged. A lot of patchwork in the rooms, bath etc because of an aging property that is leased by him. So no real infrastructure improvements, just enough patchwork to get by.
The wifi, while decent, can be spotty and in and out! The water pressure in floors 2 and 3 poor. The 2 male chefs are quite decent, however more recently one of the cleaning ladies is trying her hand at being a chef, once or twice a week and she is not good.
Location is great for me, but may not work for all. Security is good and tight, no cedula / I'd means no entry for anyone. No exceptions. They check it and keep the cedula until the chica leaves. This is one reason why I stay here, and the safe of course. I tip everyone and bring the girls who work there small gifts every time. So, for me the service is great. And, I love Wilfried. He is the reason I never consider any other options. Superb manager.I've stayed there at least 50 nights over the past 15 months as well and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in town. You can't beat the place in regards to everything it has to offer.

There are less cars on the road and therefore it is less chaotic. The areas are well lit so there won't be a problem avoiding potholes. Driving city to city is best done in the daytime though, because the roads outside of the cities are not lit and it is harder to avoid potholes.

Eclipse has mirrors on the ceiling, if you like to look at yourself. They will also serve sandwiches, etc.
Both are located close to the beltway intersection near the STI airport.

Re your question, 3 reasons:
1. I am not as experienced as you and my spanish is very limited; 50-100 words, but better when I write or read messages.
2. Because it is Sosua after all. Although nearly all my chicas come from Pto Pta, Luperon, Imbert and towns in between Pto Pta and Sos. A couple from Santiago, one from Santo Domingo (a dud, but I was on my first trip and she was a Civil Enginnering student, 21 yrs old and stayed with me for a few days at Lifestyle), and one for two diff weekends who trekked all the way from Higuey. And I never knew them from Eve, and they all spent nights with me.
And 3. Because I drink and party at the discos and sleep for long hours after I return with them, usually between 3-5 am, whether in SOS or the all inclusive resorts.
But, you are right, I have missed out on many good ones because they lost their cedula (and it costs like 2000 pesos to get a replacement) or they did not have one, but claimed to have it at home.
And yes, I agree it is demeaning. My apologies to them. But, in Brazil, and these days, even apartments have to take a photo AND enter all cedula info into a computer based on govt directive (San Paulo, Fortaleza etc.). My photo and passport info as well! So, it's equality! And often times in Apartments in Peru as well.
Yeah, so I've had some poor experiences, a couple times I either lost some dineros from my pocket or it disappared (2000 pesos twice), but more than 90 PC of my experiences have been average to good, and about 10 PC great. Although, for me it's all about hanging with the chicas and just interacting with them at a human level and also getting my fun from watching these chicas communicate with their boyfriends, amigos and amigas and just getting a sense of their LIVES from their Facebook banter, on my iPad or iPhone.
The overwhelming majority of my chicas are under 22. And all except 2 and at BB's (my first 2 trips), non- pros and semi pros. Or so, I think!! Haha.
There were 2 who would not take any dineros, one who got quite angry when I ever so discretely tried to slip her some dineros, and one who came with her own wireless hot spot cell device tagged to her cell phone. Meaning, she was from a family with some money. I have been to resorts with 4-5 of them for a total of 12 nights, whenever I get good deals at Lifestyle.
But, I do like the DR, the Dom chicas and I do want to learn Bachata and have that as an additional facet of pleasure, enjoyment and happiness because I love to dance, and even better, watch great Bachata dancers.

Yes, it absolutely makes sense. It is just that I have no interest in drinking (Women already are heady enough for me. LOL) even though I enjoy a drink. Actually a cigar these days, after a good meal and coffee, but only when I am there.
I have had occasions when my money (more importantly, my passport) etc was in my back pack (not even the safe) and a woman inside the room watching TV, while I was outside shooting the breeze with other guests. I find and I suppose you do too, that young women take their cue from you and on that, I completely agreed with your statement that as you sow, so will you reap.
I will be in town Wednesday and one of the things I love to do is dance Bachata. It is a great way to break the ice with the girls. Every women is different when you dance with them. The truth is that the first copy is free. The second copy is even free. The third copy is 500 pesos. And if the person is as irresponsible as to need it a fourth time then it is 1000 pesos. So I will start off by asking these questions. You essentially implied that hard core chicas now is ONE of the by products of what some prior visitors / mongers did that affected the behavior of chicas. Exactly what did these prior visitors do IYO? Ya know, in the states enough american women share a similar sentiment whenever they refuse to take responsibility for their own behavior. They blame their behavior or attitude on what some other man did to them. So when a new dude comes along and tries to treat them sensibly, often enough that INDIVIDUAL refuses to make the adjustment to relate to the NEW person according to the way the new person is optimistically trying to relate to that woman.
Your premise may very well be correct that enough hardcore pros bring an attitude and an edge that many dudes just don't want to deal with. But I think more thought and consideration should go into their (the womans) reasons for being hardcore rather than blaming it on something some prior visitors supposedly is responsible for.
You gave some good foundation in your post. No opportunities, no education. Since prostitution is their job, chicas themselves have had to adapt to their work and adopt a different attitude. Not merely because some prior visitors did something to them. The nature of their work puts them in a frame of mind where it's probably natural for enough women to become hardcore.
Just about every experienced monger reading should be able to validate this observation. They met young girls around 17,18,19,20 or even 25 and up come to Sosua or any other PFP destination. These women starting out may sweet and accommodating as can be. Let 6 months to a year go by. After that, they arent the same sweet tenderoni like when they 1st came on the scene. IMO, I don't attribute their hardcore adaptation to what some prior mongers did to change them. I charge it to the nature of the work and business they are in, and how they themselves have emotionally and psychologically had to evolve after learning as much as they had to in order to survive in that business. Not to mention the hardcore mentoring they are getting from other chicas teaching them. Weve all seen a vet chica walking around with a newbie, pushing the newbie off on a dude. Including dudes the vet used to fuck. The vet chica tries to demonstrate to the new chica how things are done. The vet may ask the dude for some money, for him to buy her a beer. Something like that. The newbie chica is supposed to be shown how to get dudes to pay for shit, so she can keep her money for her personal use. Side note! That shit doesn't work with me. Because I like to keep my money for my personal use as well.
This is where I have difficuly in blaming hardcore behavior on prior visitors / mongers. Just like the american women blaming their behavior on what some prior dude did, or the hardcore chica wants to use prior visitors as an excuse, We all know, NOT ALL WOMEN RESPOND THE SAME. That negative hardcore behavior is an individual thing and problem. And may not have anything to do with what some prior visitor did. I'm sure some dudes know chicas that have been in the game awhile, and still aim to please their clients. Thats the sign of someone who has learned something. Rather than many of these chicas that are being misguided. Being taught how to hustle for immediate gratification. Not for longer term arrangements. And that to me is the real problem. Misguided chicas, with no clue or training on how to create an incentive for a man to repeat or keep them for a few days.
Another consideration? For many of these hardcore chicas, if damage was done it should have happened long before they started fucking with gringos. Lets think about it for a minute. Which men do most chicas complain about the most? Is it foreigners? No. It's dominican men. Almost every chica claims they don't like dominican men. That dominican men are abusive, leave them with babies, too much machismo. Don't take care of them. You name it, many of those women have a story to tell. And yet, many if not most dominican women must not have got the memo about how fucked up dominican men are supposed to be. Because who do dominican women consistently continue to have relationships and children with? Dominican men. So the 1st abusers that should be blamed in lending a hand to chicas being hardcore is dominican men, not visitors on a 3 day to 3 week vacation. Especially when these men are enhancing these chicas daily lives, not detracting from it. And lets not forget that many of these women may have been abused in the home. Are encouraged to go out there to work as prostitutes. Their own boyfriends and husbands let or put their women out there. So if blame is to be put out there to why enough chicas are hardcore, it shouldnt be towards dudes visiting. If anything a visitor could be a savior, but many of these chicas arent interested in being rescued. They are content with life and the people in it, as is.
And quite frankly I would like to know how were these visitors treating these women so that they get blame for chicas being hardcore? I think mongers are being misunderstood. The reasons why mongers have had to readjust their giving nature, naive nature is because women in the game, just like prostitutes, strippers and any other woman will take advantage of a man if they spot weakness. So lets say the overall premise is guys stopped looking for GFE and resorted to sport fucking. A typical dude on vacation may be doing himself justice in not seeking GFE from many of these women. Mainly because many of these HD women already have dominican men, husbands, boyfriends, chulos etc. Visitors before have learned of this reality and wisely stopped believing these women acting like they are in love. They learned that it was an act. Other individuals horror stories have shown us what many of these females are capable of.
Hook up with a guy. Guy takes her back to his home country. Woman stays awhile until she can get out of it. Point being, chicas / females have played a huge role in why they may not get treated a certain way due to their own history of untrustworthiness in the short and long term. In other words, mongers have had to adapt. But here's the good news. While many of those females will grow bitter thinking gringos owe them. Smart men can choose to leave them alone, and as you've suggested find women more compatible with their needs.
Another consideration. This is for the chicas and for women in other countries complaining about men. Just because you were mistreated by some other dude, doesn't mean a new dude is going to do the same. If a new dude is coming at you correct, then you better get your psychological shit together and know how to treat an individual the way you like to be treated. Women can have all the excuses in the world for having a bad attitude towards a new man in front of them. But the one thing they won't do, is take responsibility for their own behavior. We don't need to let them off the hook. Even if women are supposed to be emotional creatures. If you notice men don't get to use that excuse about what some other woman did to make them behave a certain way.
Women fully expect men to put that hurt or disappointment to the side, man up, and get over it. I say what's good for men is good for chicas / women too. Now maybe, just maybe, enough chicas / females feel it's important to be hardcore. And they arent blaming other men for it. They recognize the game for what it is. Maybe it's a necessary evil in order to mentally cope with having to share your body with total strangers? Especially the nastiest, ugliest, craziest, disrespectful men as clients.

But I think more thought and consideration should go into their (the womans) reasons for being hardcore rather than blaming it on something some prior visitors supposedly is responsible for.
You gave some good foundation in your post. No opportunities, no education. Since prostitution is their job, chicas themselves have had to adapt to their work and adopt a different attitude. Not merely because some prior visitors did something to them. The nature of their work puts them in a frame of mind where it's probably natural for enough women to become hardcore.
Just about every experienced monger reading should be able to validate this observation. They met young girls around 17,18,19,20 or even 25 and up come to Sosua or any other PFP destination. These women starting out may sweet and accommodating as can be. Let 6 months to a year go by. After that, they arent the same sweet tenderoni like when they 1st came on the scene. IMO, I don't attribute their hardcore adaptation to what some prior mongers did to change them. I charge it to the nature of the work and business they are in, and how they themselves have emotionally and psychologically had to evolve after learning as much as they had to in order to survive in that business. Not to mention the hardcore mentoring they are getting from other chicas teaching them. Weve all seen a vet chica walking around with a newbie, pushing the newbie off on a dude. Including dudes the vet used to fuck. The vet chica tries to demonstrate to the new chica how things are done. The vet may ask the dude for some money, for him to buy her a beer. Something like that. The newbie chica is supposed to be shown how to get dudes to pay for shit, so she can keep her money for her personal use. Side note! That shit doesn't work with me. Because I like to keep my money for my personal use as well.
This is where I have difficuly in blaming hardcore behavior on prior visitors / mongers. Just like the american women blaming their behavior on what some prior dude did, or the hardcore chica wants to use prior visitors as an excuse, We all know, NOT ALL WOMEN RESPOND THE SAME. That negative hardcore behavior is an individual thing and problem. And may not have anything to do with what some prior visitor did. I'm sure some dudes know chicas that have been in the game awhile, and still aim to please their clients. Thats the sign of someone who has learned something. Rather than many of these chicas that are being misguided. Being taught how to hustle for immediate gratification. Not for longer term arrangements. And that to me is the real problem. Misguided chicas, with no clue or training on how to create an incentive for a man to repeat or keep them for a few days.
Another consideration? For many of these hardcore chicas, if damage was done it should have happened long before they started fucking with gringos. Lets think about it for a minute. Which men do most chicas complain about the most? Is it foreigners? No. It's dominican men. Almost every chica claims they don't like dominican men. That dominican men are abusive, leave them with babies, too much machismo. Don't take care of them. You name it, many of those women have a story to tell. And yet, many if not most dominican women must not have got the memo about how fucked up dominican men are supposed to be. Because who do dominican women consistently continue to have relationships and children with? Dominican men. So the 1st abusers that should be blamed in lending a hand to chicas being hardcore is dominican men, not visitors on a 3 day to 3 week vacation. Especially when these men are enhancing these chicas daily lives, not detracting from it. And lets not forget that many of these women may have been abused in the home. Are encouraged to go out there to work as prostitutes. Their own boyfriends and husbands let or put their women out there. So if blame is to be put out there to why enough chicas are hardcore, it shouldnt be towards dudes visiting. If anything a visitor could be a savior, but many of these chicas arent interested in being rescued. They are content with life and the people in it, as is.
And quite frankly I would like to know how were these visitors treating these women so that they get blame for chicas being hardcore? I think mongers are being misunderstood. The reasons why mongers have had to readjust their giving nature, naive nature is because women in the game, just like prostitutes, strippers and any other woman will take advantage of a man if they spot weakness. So lets say the overall premise is guys stopped looking for GFE and resorted to sport fucking. A typical dude on vacation may be doing himself justice in not seeking GFE from many of these women. Mainly because many of these HD women already have dominican men, husbands, boyfriends, chulos etc. Visitors before have learned of this reality and wisely stopped believing these women acting like they are in love. Suffice it to say that most of our brethren live in their own perspectives (and it reinforces itself in a feedback loop) and the chicas too. Live in their own perspectives with its own, but different, feedback loop, with opposing views. But the balance of power is with the men with dineros.
Clearly, the DR govt and the local autonomous government (based on the daily reports at the consolidated level from the tourist police of incidents from both men and the pro chicas) are grappling with the tempers, discord, and mistrust that is getting slowly but surely aggravated over time by both our brtehren and the pro chicas. I suspect the boling point or breaking point will reach its conclusion in the coming years, as each sides' feedback loop aggravates the other side's perspectives more and more.
The local government is trying to find an alternative tourism revenue stream and if they can't, they will simply have to step up enforcement more and more in SOS, and at the point of entry and departure at the airports and try to get our brethren to modify their behavior, or at least have some of them take their business elsewhere.
This will percolate and percolate and boil and boil, and reach its conclusion in the coming years. Just the nature of social systems at work at a macro level. IMO. Just one solitary guys take on things and where it is headed. Just one guys opinion. Sorry, I am not going to get into details as it is best not to air such laundry in a public forum, IMO. Not good for any or all of us, collectively.
I am going to have to leave it at that. Take it FWIW or just trash this into a trash can and leave things be. Not much I can do. Except, it's a sorry state of affairs. I'm probably wrong, but I class the chicas with all other employees. People take a particular job either because their options or limited, or because they see it as a way to advance. This excludes the people who are forced into a job, which so often happens with prostitution. Especially in the sex trade (stripping, porn, prostitution) this is true. Whether in a depressed area in a US city, or in a third world country, many people, especially women, don't have other options. Some will learn to tolerate the work, some will even come to enjoy it, but many will hate every minute.
The women who see their work as a way to advance also develop different attitudes. Some realize the money isn't worth the costs, some enjoy the money and ignore the downside, and a rare few have the attitude of "I get paid for this?" When you are dealing with someone who hates their job, the experience is not going to be good, and quite often, our reaction just makes things worse. The bad experience, for both parties, makes it difficult to approach the next encounter with a positive attitude.

I will be in Sosua for approximately ten days mid March and plan to make a couple of day trips to 27 Charcos, Playa Grande etc. , but don't like the liability of renting a car. Any referrals with contact information would be greatly appreciated.

Not everything can be blamed on prior mongers. We all know why women decide to become working girls. A woman just doesn't grow up wishing she would be a working girl. A hardcore chica is like the server who doesn't care about a client in a restaurant but still hopes to get a good tip. My worst experience in Sosua was my first experience, she rushed me and wouldn't even want me to change position and she wanted me to pay more. She new that was my first day. But I gave her her 1500 peso and kicked her out. This girl had the nerve to ask another session when I went back to Rumba. I told her to get out of my face. I saw her at Rumba every night when I was there but she knew that talk to me. Most hardcore chicas just have the hustle mentality, for them quantity is better than quality.
If a girl doesn't understand the value of customer repeat, she most likely won't care about giving a good service.

A lot of the outlying bars were dead, including one of my old favorites, Don Andres.
I went to check out Casa Cayena Friday at 6. 30, and it was also dead, just me and a bored barrista and a cat. I stood by the pool and cast my mind back a couple years, a bikini booty dance contest and a really wild party.
They say it is $60 for a room with breakfast and dinner, and for two, $80.
Generally bar owners complained of poor business.
Checked out a condo in a renovated hotel, accross from Infiniti Blu. They want $70,000 for a 1 Bed, 1 and half bath unit. Great location for the price, gated, big pool and beautifully kept areas. The problem? Looks like where all my fellow Canadians go to die. Everyone speaking in whispers. Scores of units and not a sound.
I was thinking of buying one and using it 6 months of the year, but my DR GF would go crazy there, She is used to sounds of life, dogs, music, kids.
I'm not ready for that yet either.
So, bottom line, I wouldn't have wanted to be there last week without the GF. Hope it picks up again.
Although it was the quietest I've seen it since I've been coming, ironically I had the best vacation week ever. A lot to be said for having a regular who turns your crank!

Thanks in advance for any replys.All of the places you want to go to are no more than a couple of hours away from Sosua. Hiring a driver from a public taxi stand will be expensive. Another option would be to rent a car from OK Motors in Sosua which offers an option to purchase insurance for $ 2 to $ 5 a day with a zero deductible. Last time I rented from them they picked me up at the airport and dropped me off at the airport at no charge. When I checked out the car I pointed out some dings in the fender and they said don't worry abut that everything is covered. You will pay a little more to rent from them but the free airport pick-up / drop off and zero liability should give you some piece of mind. Another option is to negotiate with some of the local drivers who work out of the public taxi stand in Sosua but you need to have Spanish speaking skills. You will have a blast at 27 Charcos with means 27 pools. Make sure you have a guide take you on the 18 pool tour at a minimum.

They won't negotiate in front of the other drivers and most all are affiliated with specific hotels. But there iis one guy. I forget his name. A personable guy in his 30 's I have negotiated with in the past. Drag him or similar driver away from the stand, say 100 yds away. And try between 3500-4000 pesos for the day. Leave early and return before 330 pm to still offer the driver some opportunity later in the day.

A lot of women in the DR have hair extensions so they can have "straight hair", and the salon is their second home where the women have their extensions attached and washed. Love that shiny smooth asian hair. I work with a lot of westernized japanese and asians, and I'm amazed that they can cross a windy street with loose hair that falls perfectly back on their shoulders when they get inside, no frizz, no brush or comb needed.

Given his speech was slurred and he was holding a glass of what appeared to be alcoholic beverage I suspect he was under the influence.
I immediately left after paying my bill as I did not want any problems.

In spite of what some posters say about trying to change their behavior, or "teaching them a lesson", there is absolutely nothing good that can come from making an enemy in Sosua.
He was a asshole, if what you relate is the way it went down, but you were in his space.
About the only thing you can do is bad mouth the establishment, like you are doing here. That will hurt him more than a "fuck you" stand off, with the adrenaline running dangerously high.

He is a known thug but is running his business well. It continues to expand and is one of the more interesting locales for ex-pats and haitiana fanciers. Sadly, you need to be either a thick-skinned bruiser or a crook to survive as a gringo business owner in the DR.

Friday night was packed in classico. I hit him with the vest and matching tie. It was wall to wall chica and a lot of New York cats. My boys asked me did I feel over dressed. Nah I'm a grown man this is my thing. A super aggressive bunny would not let me leave her. I wanted to dance on my own on the floor but she was very persistent. She stuck her tongue in my ear and I had to put her on my to do list. There was so many choices the normal classico vibe. Earlier we went to Cabaret to kill time. The beach was very relaxing. No signs of pay for play in the area however it was very nice. We came back to the beach in Sosua. We stopped at Marys ordered some fish and all three of us got back massages. I swear the girl massage my friend back for 3 hours. I ran into a super dark haitian with a fat ass and I made her my afternoon snack. Didn't have a chance to catch up with old school. I guess the brother was too busy dealing with his people. I think we will be off La Vega or nagua Saturday. Recent reports have led me to think that this place is still alternative to CR and MDE, for someone needing to break-away from the stale. I was researching DR for a trip over a year ago, but seemed the scene was going down hill fast. Should I give this place another look? MDE is still the best in the Americas, but it appears that DR might allow me to break-away from the routine for a trip.

Biggest drawback may be getting there. Depending on where you are going from airfare is pretty high. On the plus side the pussy is about 1/2 of what you would pay in CR. Rooms are a little cheaper than CR. Depending on airfare probably good for a change of pace.
