Well at 10:20 PM I headed over to Rockies but I saw a 20 something chica so I had to get my BBBJ.
I arrived at Rockies and JJ, Raj and Mav were there with about 40 other people having their price fixed dinners, only 500 pesos, includes all you can drink.
Afterwards headed to Latino Club with JJ, paid 50 pesos to get in, but it was dead so we walked over to The Mora Mai.
Cast of Pevs at Mora Mai, Palace John, G Man and his Brother, Clemenza, Vic, Strangeluck and Mr Ed. Plus they had a few chicas there.
Met up with Mav and JJ and we walked around. D Classico was packed and many of the smaller bars around the center of town were all open.
Chicas everywhere. Tourists everywhere. It was a party!!!!
Well I'm finally planning my trip to Sosua after reading this forum for 2 yrs. I found the airline fare cheaper going to STI than POP a $100 diference however I hope that's not what the cabfare to Sosua will cost me, any info on this will be greatly appreciated. I'll stay at the palace and generally follow the guidelines the legend ******* posted on his section(thanks Jim) I'm shooting for the second week of Jan. Hope a few of you guys will be there.

Sabor . . . . enjoy the trip. When you land at STI, just take a taxi to Caribe Tours. Buy a ticket to Sosua. It wil cost maybe 5 bucks. Once the bus drops you off in sosua, get a taxi to the Palace. The buses are nice and have AC, and if you play your cards right, may wind up sitting next to a cute chica or meet a cute obe at the bus station!

My wife and I are planning on visiting Puerta Plata and/or Sosua in Feb in search of chicas to bring back to our room for decadent pleasure. I have read all of the threads in Sosua and Puerta Plata, and have narrowed down places to stay to these three:
1) Blackbeard's (claims to welcome adventurous couples)
2) Hotel Europa (seems clean, chica friendly)
3) Puerto Plata Beach Resort and Casino (based off of Jimmy the legend's posting)
Any suggestions? We do not care about all-inclusive, but are looking for good clean rooms, resort-quality, in an establishment that would not frown on us stumbling back to the room at night with company.

Thanks everyone!I can't speak to #s 1 or 3, but I stayed at the Europa and found it just fine. They might charge you ten bucks for an extra person in the room, though, since there's already two of you. By the way, seems like you're one lucky guy.

I wanted to thank the group for the PM's -- I've received favorable responses on BlackBeard's and a recommendation to split the days between BBs and Europa, which I think we will do -- for a full experience. Just to share with anyone else with similar questions.
I had also read in another post that El Bohem and Crystals check the girls monthly for STDs -- is this true? Would they be considered safe eating?

Where you speaking about the Sosua Palace or was it a typo and you meant "place"?
Okay, I'm ready to go. Will be my first trip to the DR and to Sosua. Will be there for 6 days in February! What about getting pesos? Should I get pesos here in NYC where I live? Or, should I wait and get pesos in the DR when I arrive? Where/how do I get the best rate? How do I know that I'm getting the best rate? How about ATMs, and using credit cards in Sosua? Can I pay for meals, hotels, bars and massages with credit/debit cards? Can I use U$ Dollars down there?

Taxi drivers take 15us for trip to Sosua and will stop at cambio or atm to get peso. If you are at the Palace Tutti Frutti around the corner has good exchange rates.
There are some bi chicas around and if there is a non local chica with you there is a better chance that a real 3 some could happen. It seems the DR chicas are more hetero than the young girls in the US of A.
I use the Atm's all the time, I prefer Banco Progreso next to Super Super, there you can take out 20000 pesos in one transaction. Ofcourse you should bring som dollars in cash as a reserve also.
I'm planning a trip to Sosua for the first time. Can anyone give me any information on what they think about this hotel - http://www.voramar-sosua.com. Is it a good place for a new guy? I kind of like the price compared to the Palace. Thanks and I'll be sure to post my own review if I stay there.

I am planning my second DR trip and have some questions for the veterans out there. My only trip so far is to the southern coast (Bayahibe/LaRomana). This time I will be heading for Sosua.
1. Is the water in the hotels and restaurants drinkable by an american? I stayed away from all non bottled water but still got sick on my last trip even in a resort. I think it was from the cooking being done with tap water. I mean I always heard people say they boiled it or they werent using tap water but you cant watch them prepare the food so who really knows. Took me like 4 days and some Pepto Bismol to get a solid bowel movement again!
2. Is Puerta Plata airport as lax about people bringing things into the country? Santo Domingo didn't seem to really check anything electronics, clothing, or gifts related on the way in. On the way out they went through everything thoroughly.I would like to bring some things in as gifts on my visit.
3. What things/places to stay away from and not eat/buy any food from. On my last trip I did eat outside the resort but in a restaurant right by the resort I saw heavily populated by other tourists. In LaRomana I saw tons of restuarants and places to eat all over. I wondered what food would be safe to eat and what wouldn't. I would figure some bar-b-q chicken should be ok but I guess you never know.In Sosua is this much the same way?

I am asking for your opinions on the hotel Voramar in Sosua. This will be my fourth tri, p this year to the DR. My March 04 and May,Aug, trips were at Blackbeards, this time I will be walking the mean streets of Sosua, in Aug I did a day trip to Sosua and fell in love with the place. On March 15th I will be at the Voramar, so here are my questions for the experts. How far of a walk to the main drag. The pool looks huge and they have a 24hr bar and restraunt, so hows the prices and food? Talking to Hank the mgr, he informed me guests with id are no problem. Are there working girls there at the hotel and what are there asking prices. My battle plans are on a daily note are a walk to La Rocca for breakfast or the hotel if good. Massage at Passions around noon, some sun and a beer at shark bar around 4pm, is #66 the shark bar? dinner at Alantic Blue or La Rocca, again the hotel if you guys think so and a all nighter from anywhere in the towne. That and a trip up to Costambar are my plans, will be there March 15th to the 24th, if anyone wants to have a beer, let me know.
Ok folks........Sabor is feet dry in Sosua. Got in yesterday and Jesus was there to take me to the palace. Talk about VIP treatment I felt like I just came back from war a hero!!!!! Well I met John who hooked everything up for me thanks John!!! and settled in. I spoke to the girls briefly and then met RSM Man from WSA and he gave me a quik briefing of the local habitat. This cute little thing kept shaking her butt at me, grabbed my jock and then wispered in my ear so immediately I cleared the room and went into action. Oh by the way john let me have the first floor room with the thingamagingy hanging in the living room.......mongers who have been here know what I'm talking about.....picture is in the near future! Anyways did the deed and then went to M and M for a massage but it was closed.....OMG how time flies!!!!
Ate at La Rocca....good food! and back to the palace. Hooked up with to other mongers and we hit the clubs. All in all I'm having a blast but will have further details when I get back to the states as time is precious here in mongerland.

After the weekend I'm booking my second trip to Sosua in 2-3 months time.
I have a few things to clear up - since my last visit a year ago the currency rates have dropped from 45 to 30 - but had the prices changed? Do the girls charge the same and what are the going rates atm.? (I think I overpaid too often there so I'm gonna check again to be sure).
Does anyone have John's email - I think I'd like to stay at the Palace again - the staff are top notch. (and he has internet now).

Anyone stayed in the penthouse? Is it worth it? Is it two seperate bedrooms? We are going in April and plan to party hard. If its not two bedrooms we are thinking about Europa's 2 bedroom apartment.
Is the snorkeling any good off the beach?

I rented a condo for the month of May in downtown Sosua, and hope to meet with some compatriots for the type of fun we enjoy.

Day 1: After one long year of waiting finally our arrival at Puerto Plata and we checked in at the Don Andres hotel at 16.30 where we made up for some food and Presidentes and after all ready for the evening.
Although we are tired no time to waste. So we found our catch of the day at the Central. Today Mr Blackadder did the bargaining and brought 1500 peso down to 700 peso for a 22 year old Haitian goddess named Sandra, Mr. Monger99 has another girl (who cares about the name anyway) also for 700 peso for a real good BBBJ.
For a short stay the Calypso Hotel is the place to be, things have changed here since last year in a good way.
Although the price increased to 300 peso ( was 250) the rooms are now clean and the bathroom is no longer a biohazard area. Nice to see the money we "invested" there last year is well used !
Sunday morning started with PJ’s and these waitresses with their smiles are real cuties and they have a high rating on the strokeability scale. But only for looking ! After the breakfast we went to M&M, nice girls, best massage in town but prices increased to 500 peso SHAME !!
But no morningwood anymore, a little stimulation in the crotch section would be much better on an Sunday morning but their hands keep far away from it.
This was also a disappointment, because we like to start each day at M&M but not for 500 peso.
The next attempt to get rid of our hard earned money was a visit to the beach.
No visit to the Shark Bar, what is this all about ?
A so called ” mongers meeting point ” should be crowded by the best local beauties as waitresses and as guests.
For example look & learn and put your eyeballs on the girls around the Pantera Rosa area.
These girls really know how to entertain us, i can’t remember their names but it sounded like ”para mi ”. Be nice to these girls and they will be nice to you.
This is for brave new visitors a good start to catch the Sosua atmosphere.
Funny detail on the bar promenade there is a limping beggar walking around,he is the one to negotiate about the girls.
That evening Mr B.A. found his daily love at the Central and here the fun started.
Because the catch of the day and the girl from yesterday both wanted him. Almost a cat-fight started but the girls came back to reason and the love-of-the-day made Mr B Adder a happy man.
Monday morning PJ’s and after that we were attracted by some girls on the street in front of a so called massage parlour Josephine, you can find it next to the C est la vie bar. They offer you a price 300 peso for a 1 hour all-included massage with but when barely naked they ask for more money and it turns out to be a rough hand-job for too much pesos. So mongers, avoid that place they are leeches and it is a shit-hole anyway !
Question. . . what has happened with the Plutus wich is now closed and the bar formerly known as the Taurus bar is no longer a mongers place. To our horror we saw inside some elderly white women .. are they ho's? Oh my god this place must been taken over by All In people. Oh the fun we had last year.
Mr B.A. has his time at the beach staring at the sun, Mr Monger99 was bored because of the low number of good looking women on the beach and took a walk downtown and found a little pink painted nameless bar where he met a girl named Maria she worked last year at the Taurus bar. She was a girlfriend for Monger99 some evenings last year.
This bar is in the Pedro Clisante between the Bora Bora and the Coyote Bar.
In the afternoon we discovered a bar wich was a favorite bar for us last year.
But by surprise it has been transformed in La Passions HALLELUJAH !!
We take some Presidentes and we went to El Toros steakhouse. Really good meals for reasonable prices.And by presenting the bill you’ll get a tiny little alcoholic drinky.After that we went back to La Passions for some fun.
Yeimi kicks fuckin merengue ass, she is a dance sensation at this place. We get some Presidentes and choose some girls for a massage Mr Monger99 gets Monica and Mr B.A gets lovely Jessica. She is not the most handsome in La Passions but she has a smile to never forget. And she knows how to make Mr B Adder a happy and satisfied mongering man.
Tuesday because of the rain whe have not much choice how to spend the day.
We prepared for a barwalk downtown and arrived at the first drinking spot The El Toro Saloon where the nice and friendly Ilse with the cat Balou. Ilse is good and handsome company for their guests. But no mongering there.
Next stop is Maria’s pink painted bar additional services are possible when she has a baby-sit for her kids.
After the Presidentes we went to the Hali Gali bar a cheerful place with a friendly staff, in the evening female visitors can make you happy for some pesos. There is note on the bar writing 250 peso salida SHAME !!
We went to the center of the town and found the Saloon Girls bar.
In the beginning the staff looked a little bored but ask for merengue or bachatta music and they transform in merengue dancing goddess completed with on top of the bar dancing.
When you want to take photo’s (we did) they like it very mucha and are going crazy, so bring your digital cameras my friends when you visit places like this. And you will be amazed. Promise !
The last bar is the C’ est la vie on Duarte street Awilda a tiny lovely girl mother of a 2yr old boy has the dayshift. She is friendly and funny too. At 18:00 she ends and will be replaced by lovely Denise.
Big fun for us when we asked Awilda to put a merengue cd in the player instead of boring old Mr Phil Collins (good for a funeral but not in a party place like Sosua) . At that moment some German homosexuals (complete with leather cap and sunglasses) look angry at us and hate is in the air. I think they are all in love with Phil Collings.
What should become of Sosua when after the invasion of All In People also German leatherboys start celebrating their vacations here.
Dinner at El Toros and next stop At the La Passions for Presindentes Monica & Jessica.
Wednesday started with PJ’s and after the breakfast we went to Puerto Plata by taxi for a sight seeing tour because its raining all day , no sunbedding on the beach of Sosua.
Evening begins at El Toros and ends with La Passions.
Thursday was a sunny day and we went to the beach for sun and Presidentes.
We are becoming some shitty mongers because we ended the evening again in La Passions. just can't resist Monica and Jessica. How can we say no?
Friday what we have waited for . . UNLIMITED ALL YOU CAN EAT BARBECUE at La Roca 275 peso (excl. tax,service adds 26 % ) service is crap the staff i trying to get rid of you a.s.a.p.
The food is okay but for the rest avoid this place. I think they really hate their customers.
Sunday we decided not to go to La Passions but to make it an old-fashioned monger evening and we took a seat in a bar called The Bomb wich is located next at the Dicken Hermann sigarshop.
The Bomb is also a mongers pit. Mr Monger99 and Mr B.A. get two amazing girls for 700 peso each. We showed up at the Calypso for our duty. We got more than we asked for. Sosua Rulez!
When we went back to The Bomb there was a police raid in the street, arresting every girl that looks like a working girl and the girls asked if we would walk with them pass the place of the raid so the police could not arrest them.
Ask a girl for ID if you are in doubt about their age !
Monday started with the fact that our flight back was changed by our crappy tour operator from departure 18 januari 23:15 into 17:30 we lost a whole afternoon of mongering and drinking.
In the afternoon we’ve got some Presidente at the bar by the Europe and get attention from 2 girls not our kind of girls ( only go for the best because there are so many !)
They asked for 1000 peso, too much and we left this place and went to the Saloon Girls bar followed by 2 really nice girls who where also at the Europe bar.
We agreed after a hard and long negotiation from 1500 into 1000 peso wich was absolutely worth it.
Tuesday we went to M&M massage after having breakfast at PJ's to compensate the bad feeling we had about the last day in paradise.
We spend our last pesos and at 14:00 we left the Don Andres to the airport.
When we arrived at our national airport we felt miserable and sad. No more La Passion, No more Presidentes, no more smiles from lovely Jessica. No more working girls where ever you look. Going to Sosua feels great, returning home makes the worst day in a year. Now after a long, cold and sad week we slowly get used to daily life again.
But we will be back for sure .

Stayed at the Sosua Palace which was as wellcoming and fun as on my first visit last year. Had one of the studio rooms that was actually very spacious and comfortable.
Of the house girls had Saronge and Naomi at various times, both were highly accomplished performers and great erotic dancers (I always take plenty of sounds on my trips abroad for just this reason). John has assembled plenty of others there that I would have liked to have got it on with if I had had more days to play with.
Came in one night and found four of the girls half naked and going apeshit to Merengue on the bar (funny as there were no guys around until I showed up!).
Also had two girls from outside: Alexandra was very affectionate tall black girl and the first tea total chica I've met (drank only coffee). Also canny as she had a pretty smile on her but only when I came to kiss her did I realise she had virtually no teeth! She was good fun though; I bumped into her again a couple of days later and we had lunch together. Also had Angelica, having made a daft bet with myself that I had to have a black girl with braided hair one night. She had a bubbly personality and was hugely enthusiastic in the sack (I had a long lie in the next morning!).
I paid a flat 1500 pesos each time. Could probably have got the price down if I was poorer or prepared to concentrate on my Spanish more - as it is I'm not and I didn't!
Sadly no pictures as I had a camera problem which only got sorted after I'd moved on from Sosua.

Has anyone been to the Latino Club Disco since it reopened? I heard it was closed for a week and promotion managers changed. Any changes to the interior? Is it packed since? I thin the reopening date was last Friday.

Man! Been wanting to post for a few weeks now but the site was attaked by haters and I'm sure Jackson had his hands full. Had a slammin ass time in Sosua and did not want to leave! Even took some real estate pamphlets back home with me, is this a bad sign? Wanna say that John at the Palace is a true gentleman and will go all out to make sure your stay is pleasent. Spoke to him a few times while there and he even had to evict some idiot that decided to spark up a joint at the bar. The girls are very sweet, Noemi, Margarita and someone else's name I forgot. John gave me the first floor room with the sex swing thing, came in use! Guys, Sosua is something you have to do at least once in your life. Met a few other Mongers there and hung out, My buddy RSM Man thanks dude and Fantasy Man!

Tops, tops set aside rdp $2000 for tln from a salida bar and another rdp$400 for the bar fine. If you are going to be there 5 days and want company every day that adds up to rdp$12,000 for your entire stay.
At the current exchange rate of 29-1 usd that comes to $ 413. You will also find that after several trips and more experience you will be able to negotiate this number down considerably.
You are high by about $2500 usd! (Now your drinking tab is another story entirely) :)

Sosua is (relatively) inexpensive in terms of Latin American p4p destinations.
Always was and [hopefully] will reamin so.
Generally speaking the Sosua travelers seem to be fairly price knowledgable, do their research and haven't run the prices up too much.
If you want to see how bad well-heeled Gringos or Japaneese businessmen can ruin the local price market then check out the outcall mp's of Panama City, the sc's of Nicaragua, the night clubs of Guatemala City or the salida clubs of the Mexican resort towns of Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta or Cancun.
Sosua is economical but is still more pricey than Boca Chica which is the reasonable "south coast" DR destination.

I think the easy answer to your question is that you can get anything you want in the DR as long as you are willing to explore and can express yourself (and what you're looking for) in Spanish. Our kind of fun is available in every major town or city in the country.
The problem with golfing and "hobbying" is the locations of the top courses. You have the Punta Cana Golf Club (located in Punta Cana naturally & not considered tops for fun, unless you are interested in meeting girls from Germany, Canada and Manchester, England) Cocotal Golf and CC also in Punta Cana, Punta Espada (Jack Nicklaus design) in Cap Cana, and of course the 3 Pete Dye designs in Casa de Campo. All these are not top fun locations. All-inclusives frown on "fun"!
Worth considering on the south coast is Guavaberry Golf & CC located in Juan Dolio. It is a daily fee club, not asociated with a resort and is close to Boca Chica and the capital Santo Domingo.
On the north coast you have Playa Grande Golf resort in Rio San Juan - nice Robert Trent Jones layout (I think you can pay daily) and Playa Dorado Golf Club in Puerto Plata. Both are much cheaper to play if you stay at one of their "approved" hotels but of course these hotels are NOT guest friendly, so whatever you pick up you are going to have to squirrel to different lodging.
If you pay a daily greens fee then you can stay wherever you like but its going to be a good bit more costly. Many of the hotels in the DR just don't get it and don't make anything easy. You could probably "google" any of these golf courses for specific info.

I personally liked Playa Grande better than El Dorado or even Casa da Campo. It's quite challanging, and has amazing views of the rocky coastline from many of the golf holes. I was so inspired that I birdied three holes in a row on the back nine. They provide a caddy, and my advice is to get an older one who knows how to read the greens. When I was there, it was easy to get tee times and there was also practically nobody on the course. You can stay at the resort, but it's a long way from anthing else, so if you're looking also to pick up girls, I'd stay in Cabarette, rent a car, and drive to the golf courses. Taxis, by the way, are very expensive to have to rely on out there.
You have several choices of places to go out at night if you stay on the North beach: Puerto Plata/Sousa, Cabarette, and possibly Santiago, although that's a bit of a hike. Sousa Palace is a big disco with pros and non-pros--I thought it was okay. And there are a lot of smaller bars with pros working in them. I was not crazy about the quality of the women I saw there or anywhere else around Puerto Plata, although I admit that I spent most of my evenings in Cabarette. Probably you should get a girl from Sousa and bring her to Cabarette as there are some nice restaurants directly on the beach and night spots that are more couples-oriented.
As for other locations, I only played Casa da Campo once, and all my friends who've been there went with families so I don't have much beyond some anecdotal information. I have heard that there are some good spots to find girls in la Romana, close to CDC, so you might consider that, and make the occasional trip into SD.
CDC is a great course, but I did not find it as visually appealing as Playa Grande. CDC is closer to sea level and the views are just not as spectacular as being way up on the cliffs overlooking the water.

I have taken the bus from Santo Domingo to Santiago and then the bus from there to Sosua. It is a cheap way of getting there - keep a warm sweater or jacket, the bus is ice cold. It is a nice scenic route and the time is relatively short. Price of $5 US can't be beat - a txi would cost you $20 or more.

If you have been traveling to the DR for 16 years and the only men you've met to overpay have been black New Yorkers then everyone one on this board knows that you're full of shit. There is no need to go negative on this issue. If you see someone paying $100 US for something that should cost $30 US all you need to to do is educate your fellow traveler. Some of them will reject your advice. They are the ones who do not give a crap. They think the extra money will earn them some type of respect. The only thing that will happen is the girls will think they are stupid. There will always be guys like this. Just tell them the best club is Bohem or Crystals and let them go there and drop the big money. They will muddy the waters in that pond and this leaves your hunting grounds uncontaminated in Sosua. I remember pm'ing you back and forth some time ago and I remember you saying that you were going to take your first trip - glad you went and glad you had a good time in SDQ!
You are absolutely correct, SDQ is considerably more expensive than the other popular destinations in the DR. In fact you are to be commended that you actually did as well as you say you did in Elegant Center and Mona Lissa - 2500pesos for tln para llevar for those houses isn't bad at all! They are wildly overpriced but are very reluctant to budge on their bottom price.
Last summer and fall when I was in SDQ the prices were slightly higher but then again at a 53 to 1 exchange rate I was doing much better - that's all gone for now.
On the north coast in the salida houses and street bars & clubs you should be able to comfortably arrange tln for 1500pesos. With good negotiating skills (If I remember correctly I think you said you spoke Spanish very well) some girls can be had for 1000. Of course the structure of many of the salida bars are such that they have an exit fee of between 300 and 500 pesos - this goes to the house.
Sosua and Cabarete are fun and [relatively] inexpensive destinations but of course tend to both be more pricey than Boca Chica and NOT have the quality of the capital Santo Domingo. SDQ is where the most exquisitely beautiful women work, play and socialize. The reason is simple, SDQ is where the money is so this is where the girls go to earn $$. In the competitive waters of the capital I'm afraid only the prettiest survive!
Attached (ironically) is a photo of pretty Lori - she was born in Sosua but I met her in Santo Domingo last year where she was working to support her child. (Given the recent debate on this board, she may not be everybody's taste but I think she is very pretty and had a fun, easygoing, playful personality)

If you enjoy the quality of SDQ (and who wouldn't) but would like to cut some costs by trying a less expensive travel destination in the DR (and who wouldn't) why don't you do what I did last year and split your trip?
Start your trip in SDQ and then rent a car and cruise over to BC. Its a short/safe drive, it offers a completely different atmosphere and it enables you to enjoy two separate "player' destinations in one trip w/o getting back on a plane or having to circumnavigate the entire island to get to Sosua.
For accomodations my "sleeper" pick in SDQ is the Hotel Hispaniola at www.hotelhispaniola.com and my pick for BC is Hotel El Candil at www.comdata.nl/hotel-boca-chica-candil/
......however I must add that a very smart and knowledgeable BC traveler (who pm's me often) has pm'd me recently and told me that staying at the El Candil is a mistake and he had a bad experience there. Apparently, the manager overbilled a friend of his - so I thought I should mention it.

This morning my Dominican girlfriend (who lives in NYC) called me and told to put on Telemundo. It seems they were running a story about how the Dominican peso had just hit 26 RDP to 1 USD and how badly it was hurting the local community!
Dominicans living in New York (as many of you know) are the overwhelming source of (dollar based) money sent back to help family members living on the island. The money is changed into RDPesos and re-patriated to assist their family members with their daily living expenses. The sudden explosion of the Pesos against the dollar has badly damaged this venerable practice. If a family can allocate no more than $200 a month to send home - this would buy 11,000 RDP last year but little more than 5,000 RDP this year.
If however, the peso's rise helped the local economy in the DR then perhaps this would be of some consulation - but sadly the story continued that with inflation ever on the rise - Dominicans living on the island are seeing the prices of foodstuffs and other necessities erode their peso based salaries.
Of course in addition tourism is falling off and that is hurting vacationers.
Seems like a lose/lose/lose situation doesn't it?
On the bottom of the food chain is us "players" - Telemundo didn't exactly discuss how all this affected the P4P market but I think we can figure it out! :(

During my time in Sosua I had 10 chica encounters that made an impression on me. This is over and above the common approach by girls asking about ficky-ficky that lasted only long enough for me to smile and say no thanks. I had literally dozens of those kinds of conversations during my stay.
Of those 10, 4 resulted in actual sexual activity. I would describe 1 as good. The other 3 ranged from below average to just bad. The other 6 incidents were essentially cases of not taking no for an answer, sometimes bordering on violent. Along the way I had a lot of mediocre food, and had my pocket picked twice.
To skip to the end - I would not recommend Sosua as a destination for mongers, or anyone, and I am disappointed in the effusive content of this forum. For those interested, some details follow.
Pickpockets. This wasn’t my first trip to a questionable neighborhood. I’m careful how I handle my money. The first time, they got my fake wallet stuffed with paper, carried conspicuously in my rear pocket for just this purpose. The second time they got my walking around cash, about $5-$6. Important money is kept where it’s very difficult to get to, even for me. I’ve carried that same fake wallet into all kinds of places and situations, in a number of countries, including many puta bars. It hadn’t been lifted in years. In Sosua it took less than 48 hours to find a pickpocket. Wonderful place.
Initiation. The first offer I accepted after hitting town was one of the many girls that approached me while just walking around. I think she was probably Haitian, but I can’t say for sure. My impression was that it was equally likely that a chica would be Haitian or Dominicana throughout Sosua. I couldn’t tell and didn’t worry about it. We went up the road to a flea bag hotel - the room was $10. I took a shower. When I came out she had her clothes off and immediately asked for the money - almost double what we had agreed on. I pointed this out. She said it just wasn’t enough. Unless a girl is very special, in this situation there is nothing to discuss. She’s dishonest and has an attitude - a guaranteed lousy session. I sat there and stared at her for a minute, then got up and got dressed. She actually looked surprised. She tried to talk me down, including going back to the original price, then demanding partial payment for getting naked. I ignored her and walked. Of course I was out the 10 bucks.
Bates hotel. Unfortunately I ended up back at the same place a few nights later with a different chica. Don’t seem to be many alternatives. This room was even nastier than the first one. This turned out to be one of the poor sessions I mentioned, but at least she didn’t try to upsell me. On another day, just walking around, I ran into the girl who had picked my pocket a few days after she had gotten me. (Sosua is a small town.) It was right outside this hotel. My advice, if you are doing anything that somehow involves this place, bail immediately. (pic attached)
The addict. Early on I ran into a girl more persistent than most. I kept saying no, but she kept following me - finally to the entrance of my hotel. I stopped and sat on a bench, she sat down with me. I didn’t want her trying to follow me into the place, so I just sat there. It was late, and pretty quiet, so it took about 10 minutes before another guy came by and she finally took off after him. A couple of days later I ran into her on the main drag. (It’s a smaaaal town.) She attached herself to me again. Same kind of persistence. I finally just sat down again to wait her out. She kept whining, cutting the price, asking why not, and telling me she had to get money to feed her babies. I kept saying no. Eventually she resorted to straight begging. By this time I wasn’t bothering to answer, just ignoring her. Finally she asked (begged) me to go to the bodega with her and buy milk “for her babies”. I can ignore beggars that want money without a thought, but I’m not yet callous enough to refuse to buy milk for starving children, so off we went. When we got there she walks up to the clerk and says something I can’t understand. The clerk hands her a pack of cigarettes, rings it up and then they both just stand there looking at me. I inform her that if her children are starving, she probably shouldn’t be buying cigs, then turn and walk out. A couple of days latter I run into her on the street again (Did I mention this is a VERY small town). If looks could kill.....
Disco tag team. I don’t remember if this was at D’latino disco or the one across the street, but they’re pretty similar anyways. A chica started up a conversation with me, quickly becoming an offer for ficky-ficky. Wasn’t interested, said so, politely. Not acceptable to her, she just wouldn’t go away. I moved, she followed. Eventually she walks off, then comes back with a friend. How would I like 2 girls? Wasn’t interested in either or both, said so, politely. They basically chased me around the room for almost 2 hours. I’d go to some other spot, 5 minutes later one or both would show up. I’d have to move again. I don’t know if she was clumsy or drunk, probably both, but at one point one of them launched a glassful of whatever she was drinking in my direction. Missed, barely. She giggled and said it was an accident. I wasn’t laughing. Finally convinced them I wasn’t amused at being stalked.
BTW, the discos are one of the real attractions of Sosua. There are a lot of fantastic looking women, dressed to kill, every night, and the show they put on on the dance floor is worth going to see.
The one session that I called “good” was nothing special. Average is more like it. She looked ok. She sucked and fucked ok. I got off. All in all, very ordinary. But, she was just about the only chica who did what she had agreed to do for the price quoted. That was unusual, and elevated the experience to good - for Sosua.
There’s something called a casino in Sosua. It consists of 3 or 4 blackjack tables, a similar number of Caribbean Poker tables, a roulette wheel, and a bunch of slots. The place is not air conditioned. The seats at the blackjack tables seen to be some sort of family heirlooms. If someone gets up they designate someone to take it, or the people next to it save it for them to come back. It took well over an hour to get a seat. The cards and the chips were all damp, and stuck together. If you like to gamble in a sauna, and are dumb enough to play roulette or slots, this is your kind of place, otherwise don’t bother. I’m told there are better facilities in the nearby towns, but I didn’t try to find out.
My impression of pervasive dishonesty isn’t just because of bad experiences with the chicas. It seems to be a way of life and is relentless. Just about my first encounter with a local was check in at my hotel. The clerk (male) tried to charge me for an extra night. I really think he didn’t believe a tourist could do multiplication. I actually had to hold the receipt under his nose and count the entries 1-2-3-4... before he’d admit there was one to many, and back out the charge. This within an hour of hitting the ground. Probably just an honest mistake.
Since I did not have particularly high expectations going in, I can’t say I was disappointed by my experience. It is unfortunate, however, that the Dominicans/Haitians consistently lived down to my expectations.
Blackbeards.
I did have somewhat higher expectations for this resort, based primarily on the reports on WSG. My first evening I spent time with an attractive hostess. Eventually I asked for a price quote, and chose to spend the night with her. As always, especially with potential language problems, I repeated the amount agreed on before committing, so there could be no misunderstanding. The following day, when it was time to pay her, she raised the price. Claimed it was what she had said the day before. It amounted to less than $10, but being scammed is never acceptable. More to the point, this was exactly the kind of petty bullshit I was led to believe I wouldn’t have to deal with at this tightly managed resort. I complained to the manager. They acted concerned, talked a lot, and did nothing, effectively siding with the puta. For the rest of my stay, I couldn’t get arrested. The girls not only avoided me, I couldn’t even get them to make eye contact. No way to tell if there was a connection of course. Since I did have higher expectations for this place, I would have to say it was disappointing.
There must be honest people on this island, I just didn’t run into many where I was. Maybe Santo Domingo.
I realize that experience can produce better results in a place like Sosua, and gaining that experience might be worth the effort to some. From what I’ve read and been told, in the relatively recent past DR was a real bargain. After the wild currency fluctuations that does not seem to be so much the case. By US standards things are still pretty cheap, but not exactly a fantastic bargain either. If a place is cheap enough I suppose you can ignore getting ripped off. DR didn’t qualify when I was there. If you live in the sexual wasteland of the US and have inexpensive and easy access, I can see how Sosua could seem like a wonderful playground, in relative terms. Maybe it’s worth sorting through piles of trash to find that one special morsel. However, compared to a number of other places on the planet, some of which I’ve experienced personally, Sosua is well down the list.
...you get what you pay for. In most cases, for my needs, higher prices mean higher quality....end of story. I may even offer employee incentives like an extra 500 pesos for a BBBJTC, etc if it is done with taste, full energy and enthusiasm. It's a must! Yeah, i treat them as if they are my clients or employees and not the other way around. I'm the boss and that's the way I like it.
With each encounter comes respect though... a mutual understanding. It can go a long long way.

Sorry your first trip to the DR didn't go as expected Hardbarg. I began going to the DR in 2004. I went twice in 2004 and am going back April 14 I have had a blast both times I have went. Have you tried staying at The Palace a few blocks away from the Europa? I would recommend that hotel as you can meet up with lots of like minded guys to hang with and have a good time.
It is a little tougher for the guys who don't speak Spanish but that kinda adds to the fun of it IMHO. I hope you give Dr another try as you can have the time of your life there. I speak only a few words of Spanish and went to DR solo on my second trip. I meet a few guys from the states and we had a blast.

I have not been to Sousa or POP yet and appreciate all accurate reports that I can find. I hate the high pressure sell as well so I was very interested in what you wrote. I have been to SDQ and found it OK but the hotel and food cost was expensive compared to Brazil which is where I practice the hobby the most.

The dishonesty was one thing I hated too in sosua and boca chica.If you have been to a place like thailand where the girls are extremely honest it is a big difference.I had some girls who would not leave my room after the session and demanding a higher price then agreed before.It kills a little bit the holiday feeling but you have to kick them out by all means.

I live in New York and if someone comes to New York for the first time I can easily tell. The same with these women. They can easily tell someone who is new, and in their eyes gullible.

You say that you were pickpocketed twice yet one of the wallets was fake. Basically, you wanted to get pickpocketed. I live in New York and if I knowingly leave my front door open while I am out of the apartment and it gets stolen then I am to blame. I cannot go around just blaming the crimininals. I made myself a target. To say that you got pickpocketed in DR but not in other countries is not a good comparison. The world is not all the same.
The fact you don't speak the language is a handicap. Speaking a language in any country always increases your chances for meeting women and understanding the culture. You cannot compare the Dominican Republic with Mexico or Thailand since they are different cultures with different people.
If you come into my neighborhood with your wallet exposed it will only cause problems. In fact, I can easily take you to a couple of neighborhoods in New York and if you leave your wallet exposed you will not see the light of day. I have made my mistakes with money while I was in DR and the objective is to make oneself less of a target. Exposing a wallet is making yourself a target. I could be mistaken but this is the first time I have heard a monger having a fake wallet to check out the pickpocketing situation in a country. No disrespect to you.
It took me a little time but I can tell a Haitian from a Dominican. The appearance, behavior, language and/or accent is different. Perhaps you need to understand the culture more. Stuff like this takes time. It took me some time. Don't be discouraged on your first trip. When I have gone to the Dominican Republic I was being hustled by everybody: women, men, shoeshine boys, and the customs people at the airport were trying to overcharge me for overstaying so they could pocket the money. This is expected and initially quite frustrating but in any third world nation you will get this. Do you really believe that in the parts of Mexico you were at the prices you see are what the average Mexican pays. These are tourist traps. In Thailand, it might be cheap to you but to the Thai they view what you are doing is quite expensive. I never buy anything on 42nd street, in New York, and I have been raised in New York all my life. It is the same mentality. A tourist trap.
It is obvious that the reasons the chicas try to overcharge you or consistently badgered you is because they viewed you as inexperienced. This happened to me at the beginning but as I gained more experience this lessened. In fact, on my second trip to the Dominican Republic I spent less money overall. This is suprising since I spent it in Santo Domingo, the most expensive place on the island.
Women will always try to increase the price. This is true anywhere and all mongers encounter this on a regular basis. Look what you are dealing with.
I wouldn't worry about the $10. This happens to every guy. This will happen to anyone at least once in their lifetime. I was actually caught in the same situation and spent more. I guarantee you I will not make this mistake again. It was a learning experience. Actually, give yourself credit. You handled the situation quite well.
Why didn't you plan ahead of time to go to the Palace. At least if you had a problem with one of the girls there you could have complained to John about it and he would have addressed the issue. My first time in the Dominican Republic I was careful how I met women since I was new and made many mistakes.
Even if the Palace did not have space you could still walk by and pick up one of the girls.
All experienced mongers know this to be the truth. All women say they have children, 90% say they were abused by their husbands, and many will drink up a storm and/or gamble with the money you give them. They survived before they met you and will continue to survive after they stop seeing you., whether you get them milk or not. You are correct about people overcharging you at hotels. This is common. You handled the situation quite well and this is expected with any hotel that is not major (like the Hilton).
You did not have to pay the $10 at Blackbeards. The management would not have kicked you out and even if they did (which is highly unlikely since they favor the tourist over the chica any day of the week. The chicas do not pay for the hotel but the tourist does.) there was another place nearby where you could stay. You are right about the girls ignoring you but this is not true with all. There are always girls in Blackbeards who are willing to get into bed with a tourist. You would be able to distinguish them if you spoke the language. Also, you could have asked the management for help with choosing the girls since they have a book with pictures. All you had to do is choose, have the management translate, negotiate with the chica through the management, and you would have been serviced. I have had disagreements with the management at Blackbeards but overall they are pretty fair. Added to this, why deal with just the girls at Blackbeards when you can meet them also at El Principe, La Chosa, Mountainview, Babylon, Galactic, Crystals, El Bohem, and a dozen other places in and near Puerto Plata.
Inexperience is the issue here. I have much to learn myself, and made my share of mistakes, but you need to have a change of perspective in order to understand the situation better. I had to change my perspective, somewhat, so this is common. If not, maybe Mexico and Thailand is the better place for you. It happens. One man's poison is another man's wine!
Experience, good or bad, does go a long way and should be viewed as another stepping stone to what we shape to be our Paradise. This is and will always be my Paradise!

Sosua is a time experience. It took me year to plan and execute my adventure over there. This forum had a lot to do with it and was fully prepared when I stepped ground in DR. I'm sure that for every 100 mongers that step into a brothel, at least one guy is gonna gripe about something. All in all every monger should do the Sosua scene at least once. I truely agree with Mister's comments below.

This morning my Dominican girlfriend (who lives in NYC) called me and told to put on Telemundo. It seems they were running a story about how the Dominican peso had just hit 26 RDP to 1 USD and how badly it was hurting the local community!
Dominicans living in New York (as many of you know) are the overwhelming source of (dollar based) money sent back to help family members living on the island. The money is changed into RDPesos and re-patriated to assist their family members with their daily living expenses. The sudden explosion of the Pesos against the dollar has badly damaged this venerable practice. If a family can allocate no more than $200 a month to send home - this would buy 11,000 RDP last year but little more than 5,000 RDP this year.
If however, the peso's rise helped the local economy in the DR then perhaps this would be of some consulation - but sadly the story continued that with inflation ever on the rise - Dominicans living on the island are seeing the prices of foodstuffs and other necessities erode their peso based salaries.
Of course in addition tourism is falling off and that is hurting vacationers.
Seems like a lose/lose/lose situation doesn't it?
On the bottom of the food chain is us "players" - Telemundo didn't exactly discuss how all this affected the P4P market but I think we can figure it out! :(

I'm having a hard time believing you actually read my post.
For some reason there seems to be some confusion about the fake wallet. It wasn't hanging out of my pants as you seem to think. As I said, it was in my rear pocket. This is where many men carry their wallets, is the most vulnerable to pps, and the first place they look. That's the meaning of conspicuous. Giving them this easy target diverts them from going for the places you don't want them to find. It's called a red herring. If there are no thieves there is no problem.
You are correct, the world is not all the same. If you had read the end of my post you would have seen that the point is that there is a whole world of choices to visit. I'm afraid I don't understand why you would want to make a case for the place with the most thieves.
I didn't say anything one way or the other about my language skills. I've been negotiating tratos with Spanish speaking chicas (and taxi drivers for that matter) for over 15 years. Maybe not an expert, but I make myself understood.
I don't believe I complained about the prices or indicated that I couldn't deal with being a targeted tourist. That was expected and was of no consequense. I suspect that my bargaining skills are at least as good as yours. The point remains, dishonesty is a different issue. If I accept a bad deal, that's my fault. If I make a deal and then they change it after the fact, I'm dealing with a crook. If you are patonizing enough to believe that all "third world" people are liars and cheats, that's your business. I'm telling you that I've dealt with people in a number of other countries in circumstances much like DR who aren't. No disrespect to you of course.
I don't believe I ever said I was "overcharged" or "consistently badgered" by the chicas. In fact, I said that I had dozens (actually several dozen) of approaches by girls to which I smiled, said no gracias, and that was it. The ones who were obnoxious, however, were very obnoxious. Overcharged? I didn't bother to mention turning down the chica who started at 1200 pesos and eventually quoted 100 while trying to pull me into the bushes to give me a blow job. Inexperienced or not, my problem wasn't in wading through offers or brokering a deal, it was in trying to enjoy myself while in a state of permanent confrontation with people who were trying to cheat me.
Regarding Blackbeards, as I said, my disappointment was that I had thought I wasn't going to have to deal with the nickel and dime grifters while there. First chica out of the box ended that.
Experience can mean many things. My experience has taught me to prefer quality encounters to quantity. Choosing a sex partner from a picture or having someone else arrange it for you is not the way to accomplish that. I certainly hope you've learned that.
Experience has also taught me that making distinctions matters. Someone who says "The world is not all the same" and "You cannot compare the Dominican Republic with Mexico or Thailand since they are different cultures with different people" in the same breath is frankly incomprehensible to me. The end of my post said that DR is probably a better place to get laid than the US, but that there are other alternatives that in my opinion are superior. In fact, that was pretty much the whole point. If prioritization is of no value, why leave the US at all?

Sorry to hear that Hardbarg had such a bad experience on his first visit to Sosua.
My first visit was a week in November (exchange rate was around 28). You can read my reports in December 2004.
I arrived as a total newbie, and had only one downer experience, which I cut short. The rest of it was a wonderful time, both with ladies and other friends I made while there.
As in other places, I've noted that when people arrive with a negative attitude, the place is not great enough, the women are not magnificent enough, the sky is not blue enough, etc.
I would recommend Sosua to all who want to come and have a good time. I've rented a condo for the month of May, and have looked forward to it all winter.
Should you show up expecting to be ripped off, you may well have it happen, especially if you seek it out on the street or among the ladies you meet.
There are detailed posts of my visit, and I would highly recommend Sosua to anyone who wanted to relax and have a GREAT time.
It's a magnificent little town, and anyone who doesn't have a great time has to try hard not to.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito said that prostitution centers in the Dominican Republic will be shut down. He said that centers where nude women dance or exhibit themselves will also be closed. Boca Chica sex parlors were shut down at the start of the year.
In El Nacional, Dominguez Brito said that there are many people that take advantage of poverty here to exploit women, and as a consequence the DR is known as a sex destination. He said the practice is against the "dignity of the country and that of Dominican women," and thus the reason why he entrusted the prosecutors with taking drastic measures. He is against the DR being promoted abroad as a sex destination, and said this is why all the sex parlors will be closed.

A recent city marketing initiative speaks of innovation, creativity and trade as our distinctive competences.
We know better.
Amsterdam has always and will probably be the European capital of sex (Red Light District with prostitutes in the windows), drugs (the hasjbars) and rock&roll (like NY, the city never sleeps). Amsterdam attracks many beautiful, young women from all over the world. To live, to visit, to study and to work. The women from Asia, South America, Africa and Eastern Europe all come dreaming of a better life, a lot of them end up in prostitution.
The famous Red Light District is the worst choice ever for a mongerer. A tourist trap, relatively cheap, but loaded with Baracudas who are giving a fuck and a suck for 50 euro within a maximum of 10 minutes. Forget about GFE, in fact it’s no more than a relatively expensive way of getting rid of your cum (leche).
I grant myself a GFE once every 10 days, with a gorguous Dutch brunette of 21 anitos or with a very sensual and flexible chica from Aruba, a small island in the Caribean (once colonised by the Dutch: I’m still greatfull for that).
Hell, it took me quite some time to find those two sex goddesses, who enjoy their work, not only to please me, but to please themselves too. The DR isn’t a well-known holiday destination in Holland. Most people stay in Europe or travel in Asia, US. Only Thailand and the Philippines will raise an eyebrow and even our beloved wives did not have any problem with our intended 2,5 week-trip to Sosua. (Yeah, you have to be trusted by the women that you lie to. Honesty is such a lonely word)
I took a Spanish course (20 night of 3 hours), some good advice of one of the guys on this forum. I never regretted the time I invested. Although the Dominican Spanish is a little different from the Spanish spoken in Spain (and taught during the course), everybody in Sosua understood me perfectly well and after some days I was used to their dialect too.
Since most of your population will be of Spanish speaking origin in a couple of years anyway, it’s not a bad idea of picking up some Spanish before you go. It will make your trip much more fun (I some many Dominican sweeties at the breakfast table in our hotelrestaurant, sitting silently next to a German asshole who could not speak one word with her; some of those “relationships” lasted for more than 2 weeks…)

It's Moca. It and La Vega have some of the best looking women in the DR. WIthout very good Spanish and looking good you are not getting a lot of non-pros to do anything.
That's quite a few times, but I have to say that not all girls in Sosua are you know what. I've met my girl down there and her and her friends are all college students and work regular 9-5 jobs down there. Yes, they like to go to discos once in a while (like once a month) and yes they may go to the beach as a group or go out for a milk shake together, but NO they are not you know what. I would estimate that 90% of the girls you meet in Sosua are pros and you know what.
I've been visiting since May 2003..yes, my 2 year anniversary is coming soon and I normally go every 2 months and stay a month or more each and every time. I've had countless women to do the deed with before I met my steady.
Some of you may recall my postings of pics and stories on here and on other groups, but now you know why I don't have much to post about the monger scene anymore. Don't get me wrong, I do interact with everyone there when I go so I do know the deal when it comes to our favorite hobby.

Peak hurricane season for the Dominican Republic is between August 15th and September 15 but anywhere around that time can be chancey. If there are several active storms at the time you travel - the uncertainty can make your trip much less enjoyable.

I was there last in November, when it rained only during the night, and kept the world fresh. I'll be there for the entire month of May, and if I have to deal with some rain, I guess I'll just have to figure out some indoor activity. That shouldn't be too difficult in Sosua.
I'm looking forward to seeking out some old contacts, and making some new ones. One week in the fall just wasn't enough to check out all the possibilities.

General thoughts: Much has been conquered but there is still much more to do and learn. The fact of the matter is, that I have a few friends and Aquantences that are currently living the dream that they have found a pure girl, with no "work history". Why should I pop their bubble. I kept everything in my locker (and gave the key to the reception) and I never had lots of money on me. That had nothing to do with Maria though. I trusted her and loved her more every day. The way she walked, laughed and moved. And because of her attitude towards life.
She was somebody whose life consisted of random indications. She did not know about the western tendency to classify and explain everything that happens in life. “Just be” was more like her attitude. That night in Latino, Maria introduced me to a very attractive friend of her from Santa Domingo. She had not forgotten that the very first night she had promised to find another chica for us.

Not because I had wanted a HHH. Not because I had had the fantasy of fucking her friend while she was watching. Not because I had had the horny intention of penetrating them both from the back, while they were on their knees and not because I had had the dream of two chicas sucking my dick alternately.
No, because I had been very intimate with Doreen while everybody was watching. Aha. Yeah. Por supuesto. Claro. But of course.

I posted this on another site, but think the insights are important.
I am week removed from 7 days in Sosua and 3 days in Santo Domingo. It was my fifth time in 2 years down to DR, and it is close to my last time there.
I wont go into huge details about my mongering. It was certainly plentiful. Averaged about 2 takedowns a day with a few overnights. I am embarrassed to say that my average price was over 1000 pesos for a short stay, and over 1500 pesos for overnight, and I speak fluent Spanish. Also, let me say that DR will always serve a great mongering purpose for many out there. I see myself going there again because is flat-out fun as hell to booze and bang chics with such ease with your boys or fellow mongers. Whatever the quality is (that is what beer and Viagra is for).
So, back to my trip. In Sosua, I noticed that the quality is deteriorating fast. Maybe because most of my other visits have been in the summer, but I noticed a lot of the same old hoe$, just this time more tired-looking, fat, etc. Basically, the averages were 4-7s, with very few better than that. More disturbing was the attitude of the chicas. I mean, these chics are more commercial and vulture than ever. The exchange rate was at 22 when I first visited Sosua in Mar. 03. Then, chics were thrilled with even 800 pesos and would do you for 500 no problem. Overnights were 1000 pesos and great. Last July, we boned chics for TWO DAYS for 1500-1800 pesos. Now, these hoes were TURNING DOWN 1000 pesos after starting at 2000 and working down to 1500, and not even for the night. I mean, I speak good Spanish, and am okay looking, and know the game. These hoe$ used to be hungry, and would still settle for 1000 pesos, fuck what the exchange rate was. Now, its like these hoe$ have more respect, or better yet, more confidence that some sucker would eventually come around and f*ck for 2000 pesos without a problem. These girls in Sosua only need to meet three to five dudes a month to give them 2000 pesos a bang in order for them to be on par with real working chics in DR…they are on to the game, and that’s the bad thing…its like the Bohem and Crystals mentality has poured onto the streets and bars =(
I will say there were plenty in Sosua who were still hungry, and logical, and took the 1000-1200 peso price as a godsend. But they were the lower quality babes, or the occasional hot *newbie tail from La Vega, or Nagua, or San Fransisco, or some other ‘campo’ town without plumbing.* They were VERY far and few between. All-in-all, Sosua still serves a great purpose because the abundance is still staggering. But seeing a lot of the same a$$, and low quality p*ssy just made me drink a lot more, which lowered the quality of experiences I did eventually take down. A real observation that in the barrios of Charramicos, La Union, and other barrios of Sosua and Puerto Plata, action there for the locals is literally 300 pesos, no BULLSHIT.
In my short time in Santo Domingo for the second time, I was sorely disapointed. Don’t visit Santo Domingo unless you 1) know fluent Spanish, 2) have time to invest in meeting semi-pro and non-pro tail (i.e, stay for a week or moreA). It is a great place to spend a few weeks, meeting local college girls, workers, etc…who would not mind the supplemental income from being a short-term novia. But full-time pro action was depressing. First, at Jaragua, the chicks were were pricey and NOT hot (unlike my last visit). They were generally older, and fatter, and more aggressive, and sleazier…AND would not take less than 2000 pesos. They may have if I tried hard, but for 5-7s, I’d rather not bend over backwards. Even street hoe$ outside of the casinos didn’t go lower than 1500 pesos, and by that time, 1000 peso was my absolute max. I am very disappointed with 2005 SD versus my trip in 2003. Then, I met a chica at the Malecon Libre celebration, and boned her for 2 days, giving her nothing but cab fare home twice. Awesome!
Also, a warning about Casa Teresa—don’t waste your f*cking time. The chicks are definitely 7-10s. But you wanna talk about cold-fish p*ssy!!! We had TERRIBLE experiences, for a whopping 2500 pesos all-in. I was livid, but obviously couldn’t ask for a refund. Basically, the chics get paid up-front, and have little incentive to show you a good time. Our girls literally just laid there! They say you have the room for 2 hours, but after your load, they are quick to move on. I would have been better off drinking brews while looking at hot Dominican a$$, and then beating off in the bathroom! That may have cost just as much though, with beers costing 130 pesos!
Here is a SD recommendation. Get a cab driver to take you to some of the regular dance clubs in Zona Colonial, or Trio Café, or the clubs on Avenida Venzuela or Avenida San Vicente. You are approaching the barrios with the last two, but there is GREAT local action. Speak Spanish and have the cabbie wait for you outside in the last two, especially if you’re an obvious gringo. There was also a lot of street action on Avendia Ortega something (where Casa Teresa was). Some were trannies, but the real-girl action seemed okay for quickies.
All in all, I still recommend DR. Value in Sosua and SD, will be harder to find unless you have time and Spanish up your sleave. P*ssy is still out there in abundance, and if you make it to more remote cities, you have less abundance, but much better experiences, such as Samana, Jarabacoa, Rio San Juan, Nagua, San Pedro, La Romana. Get out and explore, and you’ll enjoy. Limit yourself to the 4 block radius around Europa Hotel in Sosua or Jaragua Casino in SD, and you’ll be disappointed. Also, the crackdown will eventually trickle down and force these broke and illiterate hoe$ with bambinos to feed to see the light, and prices will move accordingly.

I went to Sosua with a group of guys for a bachelor party. When we left the airport in POP I was disappointed at first. The place looked like a bomb had hit it. When we got to the hotel (Europa) we were further startled to see 2 shot gun armed security guards. The hotel was not bad. A descent pool and nice rooms with plenty of AC and clean towels everyday. The price was $105.00 American for 4 days and 3 nights. There is a bar and restaurant in the hotel. The biggest trouble I had was trying to figure out the money, dollars to pesos. $1.00 American was 28 rd pesos.
As soon as we got to the hotel we were mobbed by the local talent. After getting my room I took no time in choosing a beautiful chica with braids and a nice rack. We went back to the room and she tried to get me for $100.00 us. After talking her down we settled with $50. U.S.. from reading the WSG board I think it may have been a little to much but I was hungry and just wanted to jump in. That same day I had three (3) of Sosua's best.
The next day I decided to go get a massage from passions massage which is 1 block away. The massage cost $32.00 American dollars and ended up with a great massage and blow job. Not rushed at all. but no penetration. that day I treated myself to 2 more girls. the problem I had was I wanted to be serviced and left alone, but these girls had other ideas. Some of the other guys had the same girl the entire time which was not bad. They washed their clothes, cooked for them, ect. But I wasn’t with that. I wanted a variety.
Another great thing to try is the clubs in town. The girls there also work but they seem to be a step up. There are also female tourists there too that you can hook up with. The food was not so good in Sosua. The best food I had was a hamburger from the Shark Bar on the beach in Sosua, which is owned by a retired NYPD officer named Lou. He treats Americans great and will point you in the right direction.
What amazed all of my group is the way these girls screw so much but are very tight. I really got my moneys worth.
The streets are rough there, so be careful. one of my buddies woke up to a girl going thru his wallet. So don’t fall asleep on these girls. Most of the other guys were amazed because the girls would steal their mouth wash and tooth paste. LOL. There was one crazy girl, she was on the rugged side allot of scars and shit. My friend was forced into talking to her and did not want to go to the room so she tried to get him to pay her $20.00 for her time talking. When he said no way, the entire trip she was making treats to him and us, that she was the Mafioso, and we were going to get it. Thank god we were ok. The guard had to grab her up a few times.
All in all, Sosua was a great place to drain my balls. I said I would never go back but that’s not true. I'm looking to sneak away real soon. Total 6 and a half chicas in 4 days not so bad.

Moto Rental CorruptionThe first moral to your unfortunate story is that you dont trust any of these DR m*thafuckas unless you 1) speak fluent spanish, and 2) have been to DR several times and have met some reliable and useful contacts that would truly look after you. Part of the reason I've been to DR 5 times without renting sh*t is because I've heard too many stories like this, this is still a place with more hustlers than honest people (in the tourist centers like Sosua, Cabarete, etc...). to put in prospective, that hustle that cost you 3500 to 3 dudes just basically paid them what they would have earned at a menial job IN A YEAR. that is why they do what they do.
the second moral is the US aint sending marines out to find some random american who was being extorted for 4K, which may be a lot to us, but aint enough to ruffle the embassy's feathers too much. that should have been clear by their advice to simply cut and run...they dont have great means (or incentive) to really look after US tourists when corrupt sh*t hits the fan unless real acts of violence, etc. are taking place like kidnappings or what-have-you.
Next time, if there is one, here is what you do: Hop on the Caribe tours bus to Santiago or Santo Domingo (or find some cab that would be more than happy for a big fare like that), pay the 100+ AA fee needed to change your flight, and then get the f*ck outta there. The North Coast is WAY too small for any gringo to really hide under the radar screen, especially when cops and huslters are one in the same.

had it stolen
tried to skip the country with a special permission from the US embassy
got caught skipping town
went to jail - which is not unusual for civil matters in Latin countries
paid the replacement value of the moto

The owner would have settled for US$2500 which is their theft deductible.
So here is a tip - don't quote stories without the facts, don't rent motos and don't try to skip on your debts. Lock things up too is a good idea.
Also taking a bus to a different airport and having no passport will make you get as caught by the passport control as where he was . I have no sympathy for this idiot. Nor does anyone with actual DR experience.

Please, the DR isn't that bad. Just stick w/ reputable major foreign car companies (Hertz, Alamo, Avis), do some research on DR1 for specifics, and get insurance.
Honestly, I think the drivers in the DR drive much slower than the average American driver and don't drive as erratic as the average Italian driver. However, if you are not used to driving in MAJOR cities (New York, Chicago, Los Angeles) and can't read Spanish then don't get your feet wet in the DR.
And as far as cab drivers go, in many places they're a rip-off. Many Dominican cab drivers would rather wait for a tourist to shell out $25 for a 15 minute ride than take you for the "Dominican" rate. Hell, a round trip cab ride from Las Americas, the airport in Santo Domingo, to Boca Chica alone will cost more than the cost of a 1-day car-rental plus gas.
Whatever you do, just don't rent motorcycles or ATVs and try to stay off the roads at night. The biggest problem for drivers in the DR is poor lighting at night, people crossing the road, and the poor condition of the roads.

I’d say the biggest problem is the condition of the roads, especially at night and after some rain when the potholes are full of water and you can’t see them.
Look at the road from Sosua to Cabarete: there are some huge potholes.
I always rent a car when I am in the DR but there are somethings that I never and repeat Never Do.
1. I never give out my credit card info in the DR to a dominican establishment (except with Major american e.g. Budget, Hetz and Avis)
2. I never part with my passport.
I always have a significant amount of money handy at least enough to buy me an immidiate ticket should I need to leave immidiately (not because I am trying to skip but should an emmergency arise that I need to return home I can leave at a moments notice).
Driving in the DR is the same as driving in any major city and a lot more peaceful than driving in Africa. Just forget about all the driving rules that you have learnt at home (as they do not apply in the DR) and drive as defensively as possible.
I drive a lot in the DR and have never had any problems. The roads are bad and the lighting is poor and everyone tends to but the brightest lights with the highest blinding effects but hey welcome to the third world.
And if the brightness of the light is a problem just get sunglesses and wear them at night you should be fine (LOL)

My friend seems to think we should bid a SuperClub room at SkyAuction.com where there does seem to be all inclusive type place but I'm wondering if they frown about bringing gals back to room.
We are in Central Florida and have no problem driving to Ft. Lauderdale to catch Spirit flight which we have seen mentioned $79 but must be email type special or something and this may only go to Santo Domingo which have been told to pass by and me thinks we want to get best way into either Puerto Plata or Santiago and get ride to wherever we stay vs driving.
I speak decent Spanish I am told by chicks in Argentina, Paraguay, Costa Rica, etc , my buddy doesn't but Sosua is recommended on this board and couple others have highly recommended. I just don't have the time to fly to Rio or Buenos Aires which have for me been both fantastic mongering locations

Art, Puerto Plata airport is a 15 minute drive to Sosua and Santiago is 1-2 hours depending on the route and traffic.
The airport taxis are not cheap.
Rocky's is guest friendly.
Resorts are not guest friendly but there are cabanas available for short time or all night and they are very cheap.
Actually some resorts will allow you to bring a guest but it is around $50US where the cabanas are usually $10-$20 with cheap drinks.

ArtFirst, find time to make it to Rio...at least once in your life...even if for 2-4 days. Second, if going to Sosua, try to fly into POP. Its a 15 minute ride from basically anywhere you would plan on staying. Flying into Santiago is okay, but there is a 1-2 hour bus ride to Sosua for cheap, or a 55USD cab ride. SDQ is far from Sosua...4+ hour bus ride for ~10 bucks or 100USD cab ride.
Third, dont waste your money in an all inclusive. They have sh*tty girl policies and are overpriced. Stay in a place like Europa. They have 2BR apartments and are very girl friendly for about $50 a night. Some rooms have ACs, some don't, or you can get 2 singles for about $35 each. Its close to all the Sosua action, and you can cab it to Puerto Plata or Cabarete easy.
Speaking Spanish is a plus. Negotiate and you'll be fine. Play like your a Latin American native and you'll get less gringo treatment and curb the ripoff attempts by chicas and hustlers.

Santiago is cheaper to fly into, even with cab fare you still saving about 80 to 100 dollars flying into Santiago over Puerto Plata.
For example lets say you want to fly from Puerto Rico to Puerto Plata. That will set you back 300 dollars. Wait then they ad 82 dollars worth of tax. So your paying $382 with Santiago you pay $189 plus that 82 dollar tax. Which is 271.
Now cab fare from Puerto Plata Airport to Sosua or Puerto Plata is about 20 to 30 dollars. And cabs from Santiago are 55 to 75.
Santiago total = $326
Puerto Plata = $402

My buddy "Won" this room at in Sosua at an all inclusive on SkyAuctions.com, and we are flying from Central FLorida direct to Puerto Plata on TransMeridian.
From Descriptions below cab fare from Puerto Plata to Sosua won't wipe us out and wonder if the all Inclusive will have some type of shuttle service which my friend is checking out
From seeing Rocky's website they might have some type of hotel pickup service also and appreciate the info about being able to bring gal back to room. as we may do like I have done in Habana stay at one place and get a casa particular to bring gals back to. BTW, since it was mentioned, I've never been a big fan of Rocky's as a place to stay. I've spent alot of time at the Cowgirl Bar and met and spoke with many Americans and Germans who seem to love the place however.

bars and discos
there are by far more bars and discos in sosua than in boca chica. the discos are more elaborate and have more quantity and quality women than boca chica. even with the large us mongerer presence (which is very small in boca chica) there are still way too many *****s to choose from in the evenings. there are a lot of *****s sitting alone and going home single at 3am.

hotels
in general boca chica has more hotels than sosua and prices appear to be comparable in both cities; however, when comparing where i stay in boca chica and where i stayed in sosua, i would say sosua is king. i loved my apart-hotel in boca chica, the service, the space, the price, my dominican neighbors, the ammenities, and the privacy. however, the service there has declined rapidly and it's obvious that the new owner is suffering financially, having already sold both of his suvs and reducing his staff. the nickle and diming is apparent, with the workers he currently has in place and i'm sure that he would be more than willing to sell to recoup some of his investment.
although in sosua, i saw fewer hotels there are more condos/apartments. my sosua apartment granted me the same privacy of my favorite boca chica apart-hotel, but with the ammenities of a 4-star hotel. although, the service was lacking, the 2 pools, balcony view, 2 queen beds, full kitchen, and price (which was $5 cheaper than my boca chica apart-hotel) made my stay fantastic.
the city
sosua is a quiet tourist town. from the roads to the stores and restaurants, sosua was created to cater to tourists. you'll find many more tourists than dominicans on the streets and you'll find many more "western" comforts within the city. the supermarket in sosua is superior, it's as good if not better than anything you'll find in the us. the meat and poultry in the supermarket looks and smells fresh (unlike jumbo, the mega-supermarket inside of megacentro mall in santo domingo.)

My first time to D.R. was Memorial Day weekend with a buddy of mine and after this trip bofth felt definitely at some point we both might return to Sosua and the D.R. one really needs to spend more time than Friday afternoon thru Monday noon schedule we were on .

They see an arm band from an all inclusive hotel price doubles or triples often.

There are no 4-5 star GF hotels there, as far as I know.
Regarding chicas' quality, the DR is light years behind Thailand or Brazil, but having said that I must also admit that you can find acceptable quality over there, though don't expect to find Rio standard quality.
Sosua doesn't belong to the major league, like Brazil or Thailand, however it is still a place where you can have a lot of fun.

Kiev, do some research on DR and you will find 85% of the people here are mixed. They do not look like Colombians. You're not going to find 8-10 looking women in Sosua either, you are going to find hookers.
If you are looking for a regular girl when you have no spanish skills maybe try the capital. you could get lucky.
On another note piergeorgio is a nice hotel IMHO. Distinctly ahead of eurpopa or any hotel listed here for ambience.

I was in the DR twice, and both trips included Sosua. In my first trip in 1993 there was loads of chica action in Sosua, especially in two or three main discos, but also in bars. I returned in about 2000 or so. There was some action there, in a few bars and a few in some discos, but way, way less on this second trip than in 1993, and I was very disappointed. It just wasn't the same. In 2000 it seemed to have about 20% of the girls it had on the first trip in 1993, and I did not imagine this. Believe me, I checked around everywhere. Someone living there at the time, during my second trip, told me there definitely was less action in Sosua since a police crackdown in the late 90's. Do any old timers think the amount of action in Sosua now, I mean number of chicas that will play, is what is was in 2000, or like the good old days in 1993, or somewhere in between? Also, is there still a police crackdown that keeps the numbers low?

This is an attempt to tell fellow mongers how NOT to save money on airfare.
During the winter, there was a JetBlue ad in the New York Times – “JFK to Dominican Republic - $75.00”. It caught my attention, as I was planning on coming down for the month of May.
Contacting them, I found the fare was correct for GOING, but coming back was $149. Also, this did not include airport taxes.
Also, my destination was Sosua, and the flight was into Santiago. I checked the map, and also posts on this board from people who had taken Caribetour buses, and still felt I was okay.
Still, I stupidly thought “what the hell” and bought the tickets. I later discovered both flights were redeyes, but I rationalized that I could handle that.
The flight down put me into the Santiago airport at about 2AM on a Sunday morning. Nothing was moving. I napped in the airport plaza while waiting for the place to open. I needed to exchange $ before proceeding further.
When things finally came to life, there was no money exchange. They didn’t operate on domingo. The information desk referred me to the cafeteria upstairs, where I was able to exchange $100US at a very bad rate.
I hailed a taxi, who did not honor his original offer when he took me to the Caribtours terminal. I didn’t want to start off the visit with a fight, so I paid the bandit the additional amount he wanted.
Once there, and trying to buy a ticket to Sosua, I discovered this was the Saturday morning beginning a three-day Dominican holiday, and every asshole in Santiago was trying to get to Sosua by bus for the weekend. I had to wait, but the girl selling the tickets eventually took pity on me (or maybe just to get rid of me) and sold me a mid-morning ticket.
I boarded a rather luxurious, and non-crowded bus. I didn’t question why, if space were so limited, there were so many empty seats. At least I was on my way.
The bus growled out, dominating the road, and bulled its way to a second stop in Santiago, where a few more people got on. From that point, it was hair-raising. The driver sat on his horn most of the way to Puerto Plata, forcing all other vehicles out of his way – both four-wheeled and two-wheeled. The only thing this guy lacked were the hubcaps that the chariot driver in Ben Hur used. He got us to Puerto Plata in record time, then plummeted toward Sosua.
I was very happy to exit that bus (and dreading having to make the return trip). I got overcharged by the motoconcho driver going to my destination, because I was stupid enough to ask him the cost in advance.
He quoted 60 pesos. Going back, I offered the driver 30, which he happily accepted. We’re only talking about a buck here, so no big deal, but it’s an indicator of how to do business in Sosua.
My month in Sosua was much fun. I spent more time socializing with other ex-pats than doing the deed (although I strongly recommend Carmen at La Passion). There was only one street babe that really appealed to me, but I didn’t take any photos.
I’m going back down in the fall, spending October and November. If any of you guys are around, I’m staying at Condo Dominicanos and hanging out a bit at the Shark Bar. Also Brittania Pub. Ask for Jim.

Oh its nothing major to worry about. If anything major that would concern this big "family" we got here on WSG be sure that I would have posted it the minute I got in NY. But like I said its nothing I want to get into. Mongering in Boca chica can be a pain cause you have to dig through lots of dirt to get to a diamond but it is cheaper. If you are new to the place and have to use a local guide the first time thats ok. But after that try to go by yourself, you might find it cheaper.

Just came back from Sosua, and it's not that bad. It was much worse a long period last winter. But ofcourse they are still arresting some girls, they have always done that.
What about around the Europa and the Palace? Are the bars still occupied with putas? Or do we have to go to El Bohem or the massage places? Well I jsut got back from my trip from DR and I must say Sosua has changed a whole LOT. I have been going there for the past 2 1/2 years maybe more and I have seen the changes in the town itself and the people. The putas are more aggressive in a negative kind of way. More demanding with less passion for the sex. The people that work in bars have more attitudes. To my surprised the 4th of July weekend was not very populated with mongers from the US. I saw a lot more Europeans with family than anything else. The quality of the girls is almost non-exixtant. You may get a few stray. The pesos is pinned at $28RD per Dollar.
So with that being said any mongers care to share a town outside of Sosua near the Puerto Plata area. I have been to Santo Domingo and Santiago and not very impressed I used to love Sosua due to the fact that it is a small town where everything is accessible.
I am planning to go back in September and hope to try a new experienced in a new town. Any info on towns and monger hotel is greatly appriciated.
As I said, I have just returned from Sosua, and there is plenty of chicas in town. The Latinos is closed, but Classico is packed every night. You will find girlsl everywhere.

I tried sending you an IM, but it didn't appear with my sent messages today, so forgive me if I am repeating myself.
The taxi driver accepted my offer of $200 from the STI airport to the Caribetours terminal, but changed his mind enroute and insisted it was worth $400. His bevy of fellow drivers at the terminal naturally agreed with him, so I paid $400.
The bus fare from Santiago to Sosua was only $80. It made a brief stop in Puerto Plata, then terminated at Charamicos, on the western end of Sosua beach. You'll need either a taxi or motoconcho, depending on how much luggage you have. A motoconcho to central Sosua should cost $30, but confirm that before you get on. I travel light, and never needed a taxi in Sosua.
On the return trip, the bus fare was the same, and the taxi driver at the terminal asked $500 for the aeropuerto trip. He agreed to $400.
We're not talking big bucks, but I hate getting gouged on even the small things. We're often seen as walking ATM machines.

right bye on the way to sosua. I think there is one every hour. I land on a Saturday at 1:00PM. Would have to wait no more than 1 hour and flag bus down or find a bus stop. Does the bus stop?

There is doubtless a cheaper way to get from STI to the Caribetours terminal, but "mi espanol es muy malo", and under the circumstances I wasn't able to hang around for translators.
Perhaps by posting on here, a more experienced traveler could tell you of a bus to take from the airport to Caribetours. Everyone on that end tends to steer you to a taxi (probably a relative).
Should you find a deal, pass it along to the rest of us.

I usually stay at the Europa and I have had a few problems, but SS is correct when he stated that Diego will fix it if he can.
I suggest never going to any of the ladies that work the counter (they are useless) always speak with Diego.

So with that being said any mongers care to share a town outside of Sosua near the Puerto Plata area. I have been to Santo Domingo and Santiago and not very impressed I used to love Sosua due to the fact that it is a small town where everything is accessible.

Buracho, how is your Spanish? I have been all over the DR and I agree with you that some of the destinations are a bit overhyped, but what about the Samana peninsula?
When I was down in the DR last year I met an ex-pat who told me with my Spanish level (solid %80) I should consider trying Samana. I never made it any further east than Sanchez but I know I need to experience it on my next trip. Many (very) undiscovered amateurs there and tremendous gfe potential!
All you have to deal with is an overwhelming population of German, French and Italian residents - but I hear they are not "in the game" just looking for retirement homes and starting businesses.

I just returned from the island, and I must say that this trip was the most enlighted trip out of the four previous visits to Sosua. For all of you guys who think that you have a "Novia" in Sosua, you are living in a dream world. I was introduced to a guy from Atlanta who was with his pregnant "Novia." Now the sad thing about this situation was that my best friend was banging her ass in February, and there is no telling how many other bucks have banged her ass since then. There were a great deal of girls telling me that they have a "Novio" in the states, but fucking me like there is no tomorrow. Guys, please don't get this twisted. Sosua is for entertainment proposes only!
I was also a little disappointed with the quality of woman there this go around. My last trip was in February, and there seemed to be a better quality of "Punta" on the street. Don't get me wrong, I still had a good time in the streets and the club. I found myself having to look a little harder in making my choice for the night. I did come across three free experience during my ten day stay. I think that the secret to the freebie's is how you present yourself on the street and in the club. I only have short converstation with the women in the street due to the fact that every woman there is watching what is going on. When I leave the club, I leave alone and the woman meets me at my apartment. I try to keep the Puntas off balance in not knowing who I'm fucking on any given night. They may see me as more of a challenge, I don't know. I do know that I'm not paying top dollar like some guys.
I enjoy reading all of the information on this board, and I hope that my little bit of information will add to the wealth of information found here.

Thanks for the suggestion of Semana. My spanish is decent, I can speak it but with limited vocabulary but enough to make a conversation and know what is going on with my surroundings. I hear that Samana is a nice place which may lead me there. I'm looking for a town like Sosua where you can have a decent meal and the quality of women are top notch (back in the day). I can still remember when chicas were sincerely affectionate and want to spend time with you.
I hope you had a great time in Costa Rica! I may venture out there one of these days.

That's right Sylvester the word is "puta". Its the age old word for a girl who is strictly pay-4-play. Punta is the Spanish word for point or tip.
(A "punta" is also who you call out when its 4th down and your out of field goal range!) :D

I was in Sosua from July 1 to July 8 and I had a great time in paradise. There seems to be quite a large number of girls in the bars and discos.
I did not monger late in the nights but I found many action in the daytime all over pedro-clisante.
Although you get less on the exchange rate, the price for lomg and short term seems to be the same or higher than last year , when you get 44 to 1.
If you are looking for some good nassage, try belkis salon, the massage is very good and maybe you can ask for extras.
The weather was great, except some rain and a little wind, I guess its a little bit of Dennis.
D.R. is still a fantastic destination, so have some fun and keep the reports coming.

Gentlemen:
I'll eventually find this out for myself, as I'll be spending two months in Sosua this fall, but what are the requirements for permanent residence or dual residence?
I got nailed for an "exit tax" on my last trip - I was there a month, and my "permit" was only good for two weeks, so another $12 US.
As I was leaving, I didn't have the opportunity to discuss this with other ex-pats who have been there for months or years. A Canadian bartender, who I won't name, said that he had neither registered or returned, and that unless you give up your name for work, or unless you ask for some social service, they leave you alone.
There are Canadians - and Americans - who have been there long term. I'm anxious to find out how they do it.
If anyone would like to give me a heads-up, I'd appreciate it.

First of all. The fee you pay for overstaying the 2 weeks is just peanuts, think it's 500 pesos for 6 months. It's much more expensive to get a residency. If you want a residency, you get all the information you need on DR1. com It's in the legal forum, just do a search on residency.

You first have to obtain your temporary residency and when you renew that it becomes permanent. As I mentioned in a pm to you last week, I have seriously considered beginning the process in October and have been quoted prices of $1100 - $1300 usd from reputable attorney's in the Sosua/Cabarete area to handle it for me. You can get quotes of $500 or less from some lawyers but what good is a savings of $600 if the lawyer takes your money and you never see him again?? ;)
Residency is important if you plan on living in the country permanently, owning a business, working, hiring employees, importing motor vehicles, or otherwise investing in property that you plan on renting. A cedula gives you more "creds" and more legal recourse.
Residency is however, a fairly lengthy and pricey process and if all you want to do is avoid the tourist, exit or extention fee (as Vagabond said) its not worth it. It all depends on your plans my friend. :)

I was made aware that, since the first of May, you no longer fly into
Santo Domingo. Does this mean the Santiago flights have been eliminated
as well?
Most US traffic going into the north coast goes into POP, and Santiago may
be valuable for locals, but not for tourists. It is an expensive and
lengthy hassle to get from Santiago to the coast.
If it is possible for you to get gates at POP, you will greatly increase
your appeal. At the present time, American Airlines owns that airport,
and even they have dropped fares recently. I'm flying down October 1 and
returning November 30, at a very reasonable rate.
It is a flight to POP, and if I took your discounted fare, plus the
taxes - sleeping in the airport because of the redeye flight - taxi and
bus fares to the north coast (and back), I'm saving time, money and
comfort this way.
I congratulate you, Southwest and others who are breaking into the market,
but you really have to face some realities.
