When I relayed the story to a local friend here, he informed that word spreads like wild fire among the chicas when the Policia are out for a shake-down. It only takes the Policia to shake-down a few for some pesos and the words are disseminated to the other chicas via cell-phone. So if they see the Policia approaching on that particular night, they run helter-skelter.

I guess I must have been a sight to be seen walking down Independencia with a black pocketbook in tote. After that Presidente and Bacardi Gold you shared with me I didn't give a F how I looked. The chica came to my hotel about ten minutes after I got there. I gave her her pocketbook and sent her on her merry way. I needed to crash.

Joe I have mentioned before that the colmado across from La Casona Dorada is A-OK with me. Last night I stopped by and had a Presidente. I finished my beer and headed off to get me a sandwich from my favorite street vendor. Half way walking there I realized I left my smokes and cigarette lighter on the little plastic table. By now it is close to midnight and I know the colmado is closing up so I just chalk it off as lost items.
I went to the colmado tonight looking for one of my favorite, well not so favorite but still favorite new chicas. I jokingly said in my terrible Spainish where is my smokes and lighter I left here last night.......... Bingo, they hand me my pack of smokes and lighter.
Damn, never had and never will say nothing bad about that colmado.Had you left or forgotten your wallet or valuable electronics than a pack of cigarette, I strongly doubted if they would have returned it to you. At the same colmado on Independencia, one of the taxi driver offered me a ride to the nearest cambio. In an haste to get to the cambio, I forgot a very expensive camera right on the table where I sat drinking, in the view of all the attendants at the colmado. When I returned about ten minutes later, the camera was gone. Although, some of the attendants indicated that they saw the camera on the table, but no one knew who took. I love those people but I trust none. On another occassion, I took a novia to Hermanos to eat. I had my passport, credit cards and dollars in the wallet. Roughly about a minutes after we exited the place after dinner and my novia asked me about my wallet, I ran back into the restaurant to look for it. As I was entering the restaurant, I saw the waiter through the glass door, picking up the wallet from the seat, and taking out the dollars. I screamed from the door and he quickly put the money back and handed the wallet to me. I was going to make a scene but he pleaded with my novia that he was just looking through the wallet to see the content before he hands it over to management. I was very lucky that night as I had almost 2000 dollars in 100 bills in the wallet.

I sensed that chica had to take care of business with another client but she left her bag with you to ensure a nite cap with you. She must have been depressed that you sent her home without any action. After the bottle of Brugal and Barcadi, I had to take a cold-shower for the night. I am heading to Boca Chica afer this report and I will stop at GBP when I return to Santo Domingo. My new novia is coming from Nagua to shack with me for the weekend. This one is a sweet one and I may give her the ring if everything works out well. I am looking forward to hanging with you again before leaving next Sunday.

Funny you mention that, because I had trouble finding Bq at Pacos in the middle of the day. I stood confused at the side of the bar asking on my cell phone where he was as he was sitting down next to me looking at me talk to him the whole time.

I tried to find that bar one Saturday afternoon with Greek Niko and Thirdcoast. I know there is a small bar right before what looks like a restaurant on the corner, on pasteur and the next cross street after independencia, the place looked closed the times I walked by it in the afternoon, I never searched for it at night.
I remember the photos BQ Ribs posted of the place. Boricua Online will look for it next week.
I remembered your posts about that place and is why I went looking for it.

I have never been to that bar and I never heard of it before reading that article.
I have met and hung with several African American guys from this board and we never had a problem entering any bar. One SDQ newbie from this board, I showed him around SDQ one night. African American guy from Atlanta, I believe. The guy had dreadlocks when I met him. The night we hung out, he was wearing a t shirt and piece of material was on his head, where his dreds were tucked into, like a hat.
We went to Coppa Discoteca and he got in no problem.
On another trip I traveled with a light skin Dominican guy, I know from New York. We went to L. E. D. Discoteca one night and the dark skin Dominican bouncers there would not let my Dominican friend enter right away.
If I want to be around snobby white folks, I can stay in New York. If a bar or disco wants to only to cater to light skin rich folks, more than likely that bar will be boring and no fun. I went to Praia bar with Koki from this board and my Dominican friend from New York. Praia was populated with mostly light skinned rich young Dominicans, it was boring as hell, I wouldn't go back.
David Ortiz the baseball player opened a bar in SDQ called 40-40 (Jay-Z is not happy that Ortiz is using that name for his bar).
Plenty of bars and discotecas, where the color of person's skin, is not important in DR.
There are always a few bad apples or misguided people in every country.

Yes. Twice! Black means Haitian. American Blacks freely admitted! Dont think in terms of skin tone. Think Hatian vs wanna be Spanish decent in a country where the slaves and spanish fugeed an indian population into extinction and then started in on each other fuggin. I did see the trannies on my way to Casa Teresa. I was told by my driver some Domenican trannies are often confuse for females. While walking along Independencia one night a SW grab my hand it was very rough. I could have been a trannie. I found the street walkers in Sd to be very agresive and almost forcing you to take them with you.

Racism is real in the Dominican Republic. This is a fact that has been admitted by many locals. The fact that a person of color can get into a club that's geared towards white in th USA or in the DR should not dismiss the prevalency of racism in the USA or DR. Now, it is more subtle than overt; perhaps, more visible to a black person than a white person. As a black person, I see it alot in the DR, but I quickly dismiss it as ignorant disposition, as I always do when I encounter it in the USA. On a previous trip, I met another black monger from the USA who was visiting the DR for the first time and after spending almost half day hanging out together, he asked me if I see the subtle racism here in the DR. I replied in the affirmative. With this said, I love the Dominican Republic and the people, except for the brainwashed ignorant ones.

I'm not supporting racism in the DR. But I understand that it comes from fear.
You never see one Dominican run up on one Haitian, the Dominicans are always in groups when confronting Haitians.
But I've seen a Haitian chic getting ready to go with a group of Dominican girls, who eventually backed down.
Who does the hard labor at cheap prices? Haitians.
With the earth quake you see a new influx of haitians.
The Dr stepped up aid with the earth quake because the world was watching. But nobody saw them shut down entry into the Dr for Haitians.

I always joke with the locals that the big ass that enhanced the Dominican women 's beauty is an hereditary attribute from blacks, perhaps from Haitians.

I know Dominicanas clean their houses with mops and that could contribute to rough hands. I have been to homes and to open the metal gate was a chore, rusted, stuck metal that had to be pulled with force to open. A chica who enters or exits her house ten times per day, will have to use her hand to move the stuck sliding rusty lock on the gate. Some chicas drive motos which might contribute to rough hands.
Pushing a wooden mop handle around or squeezing the wet end of a mop, is easier on the hands than moving a stuck, rusty metal gate lock (10-20 times per day).

You're way off the mark. Dominican women, puta and non-puta, are expert with the mop. They keep their houses super clean. Rough hands comes from wringing mops, doing laundry by hand, and other simple chores. I have yet to see a Dominicano help with the housework.They love to use cloro (Bleach) on everything .
They won't use rubber gloves so the results are chemically burned hands.

I never thought about that. That would have been funny as hell. This was during Carnaval 2010. You should have seen the looks, especially from the old grandmothers, these two received. They so bold they could care less and seemed to ignore most of the gawkers.
If you have never made it to Carnaval in Santo Domingo put it on your list for next year. I have made two Carnavals so far and each was a lot of fun. The Carnaval in Santo Domingo is the first Sunday in March.

My last night there I went to a new cabana on the malecon, very nice. Took a regular there. All the rooms have jacuzzis, seperate bathroom with a shower in a different part of the room. Stripper pole, disco lights, Flat Screen with American TV.

I finally arrived in SD about 2 hours late and tried to check into the Hotel Riazor. They told me that there was a mistake with my reservations and I would not be able to check in until the next day at 12 noon. They said I can stay at the La Casona Dorada which in right douwn the street.
Fine, being that it was 6:30am I didn't want to complian, I just wanted to shower and sleep for bit. I asked if they had an hourly rate I was denied. I paid $50.00 for 5 hours? C,mon, give me a break!!!
I paid the hotel with 4-500 pesos totaling 2000 pesos, and the desk clerk hesitated to give back my 300 pesos in change. I asked him for it and he said "that will be enough". Finally after telling him 3 times I wanted my change back, he gave in. I was show to my room #240 and I tipped $2.00 to the man for bringing my bags.
The room was fairly small and the a/c was nice and cold. There was ZERO hot water for my shower, so I took a cold one. 30 minutes after being in my room the electricity went out 2 times. Luckly the electricity was restored before it became a sauna in my room.
A few hours after I past out there was major construction going on right below my room. Guys hammering away at what sounded like the interior walls beneath me. So, no sleep at all in the past 28 hours.
It started pouring rain early this morning for a few minutes. This didn't bother at all but the leak in the bathroom roof was a bit dissapointing. I packed up, checked out, and took a 5 dollar cab ride to the Riazor. 5 dollars to drive 2 minutes?!? The cab didn't budge on the price so I paid it and checked in to the Riazor.
Feeling 10 times better being at this beautiful hotel I have un packed and will be heading out.

Did your room have a balcony?No, no balcony. I am now at the Riazor Hotel. My day started a little late but I got into the groove of walking around and getting a feel for SD. I hit up Monolos for some lunch and a beer, then went to the clomado on Calle Casimiro de Moya for some booze and snacks. I came back to my room for a few drinks and ventured out to Girls House. DAMN these girls are smkoing hott.
I walked in and met with a guy with a hat (don't remeber his name) and he brought out 10 girls for me to paick and chat with. Niomi caught my eye, a 22 year old DR girl with beautiful eyes, gorgeous smile and an ass like I've never seen befor. I bought 2 Presidentes for me and her (150 each) and this guy was selling me on taking her to my room for 3 hrs at the price of 4500 pesos. I kindly finished my beer and left.
I had dinner at EL Conuco (which was ok) then made my way to"5 Star International Bar" for a beer. This place was cool but dead. So I came back to the "Hotel Riazor"for a quick drink and hit up Jaragua Casino to win 1700 pesos on roulette. Its about 12:30 am and I wanted to hook up with a chica. I walked a bit on Ave Independecia to check out the trim and a fellow named Raffiel sold me on a chica name Rosie for 1700 pesos for 2 hours in my room.
Here's where it gets wild: Rosies doesn't drink and was very pastionate about pleasing me. Lots of kissing, running, and massaging each other. I burned through 3 condoms (one snapped) and had a great time with her.
The session went a little longer then expected and Rosie had asked for more money. WTF?!? I said. I told her "we had agreed on 1500 pesos for you and 200 pesos for Raffie'". She would not budge until I told her that I will meet her manana(BS). Rosie smiled and went on her way.

Watnow you are NOT off to a bad start, you are in rep dom. Riazor or any hotel not having a room available at that time is no surprise. If someone showed up at the hotel before you with cash in hand they will rent your room. When you book in advance without paying the first night with a cc this is the chance you take.
La Casana Dorada didn't beat you on the rate. This hotel, like many, don't rent short term. Mystik and Navarro rent short term but you had just arrived and was probably tired so don't sweat the extra cost. The electricity went out twice while you were at La Casana Dorada? No biggie cause sometimes the electricity goes out ten times a day. This is rep dom. I posted a short while ago construction is going on at La Casana Dorada and construction is also going on at Jaguar Hotel at the moment. So beware.

Become friends with them and use them for your transpo needs.
Enjoy your trip and keep us posted. Panman and Boricua should also be at Riazor. Boricua is a walking book of knowledge so try to hook up with him.

Apollo Taxi, 809 591 8888, 150-200 pesos depending of the time of day and the distance, no more. I have walked from Jaguar to Navarro with my bags, no taxi is going to take my money for a walking distance.
I am on Jaguar PC while Panman is behind me on his laptop. He is a great guy , he rented the same Chevy Aveo Jaosousa rented a time ago, I saw a cum mark on the backseat with a legend that says "Jaosousa was here" I am going out with a chica I met on a bar in one hour, later I have Frachesca or Yissel and tomorrow Waleska and Kenia. Stay tunned.
Boricua Online and I went out most of Friday and we had fun. I been driving around everywhere and haven't had any issues, except that my rental car's interior lighting doesn't work.
My Claro piece of crap cell phone I had bought in Sosua in November was still active when I got here, so Watnow, my number is 809-742-3867, if I dont answer just send a text.
Things I do not like about Hotel Riazor: No Wifi inside rooms, you have to bring your laptop to the lobby, which sometimes is full of people sitting around. Avenida Independencia is very noisy during the weekdays, I am in the fourth floor and I have trouble staying asleep in the mornings, bring foam earplugs. Laundry service is expensive, like 100 pesos per item (shirt or pants) to wash and press, I will ask my Dominican taxi driver friend to recommend me a place. I feel the hotel price could be lower, I didn't see anything extravagant about the place.
Things I liked about Riazor: Parking lot with security guard. Free breakfast at Manolos, and my chica that slept with me Thursday night didn't get charged for breakfast as well. Girl friendly, though I feel hesitant to bring SW in here, Boricua Online tells me to have no shame. Nice strong bed, strong AC, and hot water anytime.

It really wasn't to bad of a start being that I have been in worse situations. I guess I venting a bit do to no sleep and very food in my system. I'm now having breakfast at Monalos to work off the hangover.

In Boca Chica Costalunga or El Candil are your best hotel choices. I prefer Costalunga. There isn't much action in Las Terrenas although the beaches are nice. You take the new highway to the end and make a right. There are road signs leading you to Las Terrenas.
Puerto Plata the city, well I never really found much to do in that city.

I hit up Monolos for some lunch and a beer, then went to the clomado on Calle Casimiro de Moya for some booze and snacks. I came back to my room for a few drinks and ventured out to Girls House. DAMN these girls are smkoing hott.

Don't forget the colmado across from La Casana Dorada is a good place to have a beer and watch the chicas come and go. Most of the chicas who stop by that colmado are available. Top dollar 1500 pesos, most will go for less.
GBP is closed on Sundays but you should give that a try. The special is probably still running at 2 chicas for 1500 pesos on site. If you like one of the chicas they will give you their phone number and you can hook up after she gets off from work.
$20 an hour for a taxi tour of the city might not be worth it because you will spend most of your time sitting in traffic.
You should have immediately gone to a cabana. For a five hour stay, you would have been more comfortable and paid much less, including taxi fare. Also, and this only my opinion for what it's worth, it's best to avoid paying for ANYTHING in advance.
This was Watnow78 first trip and first hour in SD. At 6:30 in the morning after a long flight I doubt if he would even think about a cabana. Actually he could have easily went to Navarro or Mystik for short term. He is a newbie, so of course he would not know this.
Paying in advance should always be avoided but if you want to make sure you have a room available when arriving late at night or very early in the morning I would take my chances with the hotels that accept a CC, Riazor being one.

Make a right when you exit Riazor, walk to the next cross street on Independencia and make a left, half way down that street on the right is La Parada, usually 6-8 chicas.

I've heard several stories about its invention, but they all point back to the southeast of Cuba ... and a drink called "Canchánchara" that became a symbol of the Cuban independence movement in the early 20th century; two-thirds rum and one-third lemon juice.

I was in Las Terrenas about two months ago, second visit there. I don't know where you read the above at but from my experience it is far from true. Las Terrenas is a tiny little tourist town. There is a small bar off the little main road playing nothing but 60's American music with about 10 chicas and maybe one was doable. Las Terrenas beach is beautiful but there was definetly a lack of chicas.
I stayed at Caribey Hotel which was exceptionally nice. The desk clerk called the owner of the unit and the owner agreed to $70US cash a night.
The drive to Las Terrenas is fairly simple. The new highway to the end and turn right. After about 15 minutes you come to a fork in the road. To the right takes you to Sanchez. You want to stay to the left heading towards Las Terrenas. About another 15 minutes you will need to make a left. There is a sign posted for Las Terrenas. This road takes you over the mountains to Las Terrenas, drive carefully. Once you come down the mountain there is another left to take you towards the beach, Las Terrenas.

You may want to use the method that BQ Ribs uses in boca chica, in Las Terrenas. Off the beach road in Las Terrenas there are paved roads that go through a small town. You will see motoconchos grouped at some locations. You may want to ask a moto driver if he can retrieve some pros for you.

Thanks for the Las Terrenas link. I am not knocking the OP but this was his first trip to the DR so anything would seem like Paradise. By all means go see Las Terrenas, drive the new highway. It is a nice trip but don't be surprised if you are ready to leave after one night.
Jaguar has been my favorite for quite some time. In room internet, frig, and multiple chica friendly. Before you leave SD go by Residence Venezia and ask to see a room. The rooms are much, much smaller than Jaguar but I really like Venezia. Venezia has in room WiFi, frig, A/C but to me it is just a little nicer than Jaguar.

If you leave your hotel by noon time you can easily stop in Boca Chica for lunch just to see what people are talking about. Boca Chica is about 20 minutes past the entrance for the new highway. So you figure 20 extra minutes there and back and maybe walk around BC for an hour. There are a couple of nice restaurants on the beach. The Boat House or Isla Bonita.
Whatever you decide try to be getting on the new highway by 3 o'clock at the very latest. No way in this world do you want to drive the mountain road in the dark.

My Jet blue flight to SDQ was scheduled on 7:00 am, a short 40 minute flight from Puerto Rico. I showed up to Jet Blue check in desk and they told me: “Boricuaonline, you do not have reservations for this flight.” I said “What, I have evidence that I made a reservation a month ago. I showed up my papers and then she told me: “look here, you did a reservation from Santo Domingo to Puerto Rico, not from San Juan to Santo Domingo” Oh my!, I was afraid of to lose my vacation. The girl told me that the 7:00 a.m. flight was sold but that I can leave at 6:22 p.m. Just imagine, a guy that do not sleep all night waiting 12 additional hours at the airport. I paid a $100 fee for my mistake and was on waiting list for the 7:00 a.m. flight. Lucky me, I got a space on the flight and arrived to SDQ at 8:00 a.m.
I bought a 500 pesos Claro card on airport drugstore and got a 120 pesos bonus plus 50 pesos bonus for being a Claro client for more than one year.
My 750 pesos taxi arrived and I was on Riazor before 10:00 a.m. My room was not going to be available until 11:00 am so I leave my bags at hotel lobby and went to Villar Hermanos for breakfast. I noticed that Villar now charges the 10% legal tax which is supposed to be divided between employees but that on 99% of the situation the house takes that money for them and the employee never sees a dime. So please, tip these employees that earn less than a hundred US dollars per month working 50-60 hours per week. The 16% itebis tax is the equivalent of US sales tax. So now Villar is like the other places, charging 26% taxes on goods sold.
I walk down to Franks on el Conde to change dollars to pesos, the rate was 36.7, on Banco Popular it was 36.2 pesos per dollar, on the “We do not charge commissions” place on the airport the currency exchange rate was 31.7 pesos per dollar. I continue walking to Conde de Penalba and saw a cute streetgirl on the Plaza, she looked young so I asked her age, she told me 18 but do not have a cedula, I estimated her age to be 15 or 16. I walked back all Paseo El Conde and identified a few street girls, more than in past trips and it was like 11:00 am so it is good news. There were 3 other girls on Pacos, one was very pretty but my hotel room was not ready and I do not like sex after a meal so I continue walking back to my hotel. I usually end up eating at Villar Hnos a few times each trip only because it is convient. I would rate their food as average at the best. For you coffee drinkers Villar Hnos has their own blend of coffee they sell to bring back home. You can either get the bean or ground.

i always have a plan b or c or d in santo domingo if plan a do not show. there is a sweet dilemma when a,b, c or d are all available and willing to visit me at the same time. it happened to me during all my stay, chicas calling while i was with other/others.

I have to thank Panman and Watnow for their company. It was very nice to hang with you guys. I’ve learned a lot from you and had a great time.
Saturday is usually the day of week with most social activities. I woke up early and eat my breakfast at Villar Hermanos. Ok, I have breakfast included at Riazor but it is a very basic breakfast, your choice of juices, your choice of coffee or milk and your choice of fruits or eggs. By noon I met with waitress chica and another chica (a co-worker) and went to Plaza Central very easy to get there from Riazor, a left after Riazor going north all across Gazcue until Kennedy, then a traffic light and there we were. This place is not as big as Mega Centro but have a decent amount of stores on 3 levels plus a food court with over a dozen restaurants. I stayed at Europa a couple years back. Nice hotel, good location in the Zona Colonial but the breakfast sucked (rooftop restaurant) and it was not chica friendly when I was there.

When I first went there, maybe four years ago, Europa was guest friendly, with about $15 fee. Terrible location,car horns and car alarms late night and early morning. The breakfast is bread and a few pieces of fruit. Rooms are so-so, 1.5 stars by US standards. Have to walk two blocks to Conde.

Looks like my kind of place, not flashy, quiet, gated parking lot next door, good wi fi inside room, small safe, guest friendly, and best of all 1500 pesos a night. The problem is there are no towels or soap in the bathroom, but that does't matter at least there's a big roll of cheap toilet paper in there. Bed looks queen size and mini fridge is quite big.

Venezia is the joint. The maid forgot the towels and soap as I always have plenty. What floor was your room on? There are three cleaning ladies and all of them are very nice. Just ask and you will have more towels and soap than you will ever need.
Jaguar has always been my favorite hotel but Venezia is doing a real good job of taking the number one spot for me. I go for the $50 or less a night hotels and you really can't beat Venezia for the price and location.

Don't know exactly what it is but Jaguar just isn't what it used to be. I can't quite put my finger on it but something about that place has changed for the worst. I stayed there recently and went two days without the cleaning lady even knocking on the door to see if I wanted the room cleaned.
The owner's wife ain't exactly the friendliest person in the world either.

Venezia is the joint. The maid forgot the towels and soap as I always have plenty.
Tipping the maid increases service quality from basic to vip. At Riazor my bathroom has two towels, I used one on the first night and next day the maid took the used one without replacing it, leaving just one towel. Next day I asked for 3 or 4 towels (for my chicas to shower or to clean their toto)and left a $2 dollar tip plus a package of Ritz crackers ( a substitute of BQ ham and cheese sandwiches). That day I received 4 towels, additional bar soaps and another room key. Riazor has this system were you have to place the key inside a slot to keep room electricity on so this additional key was a great help to keep my room cold`at all hours.

I would like to thank all of the posters on the Dominican Republic board for keeping me entertained the past three weeks. I had shoulder surgery three weeks ago and have not been able to do too much but sit around the house and watch television. Although I am not an experienced monger (or even a monger) as most on this board, your stories and comments make me want to return to the DR as soon as my doctor and work will permit.

That way if the place is not already on their map you can easily add the items or routes. You can also upload the trips to Google Earth which is kind of nice. Finally, you can also upload from the GPS, everywhere you went into the map software for future use. If you already have a Garmin GPS the software and maps are well worth the money. IMHO
If you are driving and have Garmin GPS this might be a good option. I have purchased the maps and will test them out the first week in May. GPS is great in US cities so hopefully the same will apply in the Dominican. $50 for turn by turn map.

Budget provided me with all of the required documents and I had my money in about a month. One thing I can add is to make sure you get the police report if the accident is big enough to require one since this is the main document required beyond the cost of repairs. Oh and having a stand up chica to watch your back does not hurt either.
Again thanks for all of the entertainment you have provided the past couple of weeks and maybe I will have some adventurers to contribute when I return in October or December.

Both times I stayed at Venezia I called 5 hours before arriving and was charged 1500 pesos a night. Upon check out I was charged a 300 pesos visitor fee for a chica I brought to my room 3 out of the last 4 days I was in the hotel. It seems certain desk clerk enforces the rule, so I had no choice but to pay the 300 pesos fee.
The 2 rooms I used only had one open electrical plug. Luckly I brought a 1 to 3 way 3 prong adapter that costs less than $1 at walmart or lowes and it helped greatly. I usually travel with many gadgets requiring charge (dominican and american cell phones, laptop, camera, ipod), so therefore I came prepared.
I have yet to see a Dominican hotel with bottle opener in the room. Long time ago while preparing for my first DR trip I read a report here where someone recommended bringing your own bottle cap opener. If you enjoy drinking Presidentes in the room I would recommend this as well.

Both are really good places. The chef at the Parrillada used to work at the Parrillada Nuevo Jersey. I get a sandwich at the Navarro Parrillada and go across the street to get a Presidente and eat the sandwich at the colmado.
The plato del dia from the comedor across from La Cadena on Cervantes is also a good deal at 100 pesos.

I give bad luck to the chicas I met in Santo Domingo.

The current construction is on his residential area, it was almost finished when I visited the hotel 3 weeks ago. I talked to the owner, he was nice and very welcoming. We talked about the guest policy and he said he has no problem with people bringing guests, the only thing he do not like is people doing crazy things in public areas , as for example people making noise and running nude and drunk up and down the stairs.

I think you should spend a day or two there and come up with your own assessment, as there are some things that might or might not bother you. I stayed at the Riazor and I did not like it, just my opinion that for that price I should at least get wi-fi in the room.
I did spend one night at the jaguar back in July and there is construction going on as was mentioned. For that reason, they kept my room key at the front desk just in case the construction people needed it. I do not know why they would need to enter my room and I did not ask. Maybe they had lost the room key and could only use the master key. I had to call the guy in the lobby to lock my door whenever I left, and have him unlock it whenever I returned. Upon checking in they did not tell me this, so I ended up staying in my room for over one hour waiting for someone to bring my key, only to find out later they would keep it the whole time.
The wireless internet did not work. Luckly the owner was there and he brought me a lan cable for the wall plug. He seemed very helpful and corteous. I did not bring any women into the jaguar that night, so I cannot explain if they are relaxed about that kind of stuff. The owner's family was there thru the day, so I cannot imagine what would happen if I decided to make it obvious I was banging pros.

I believe Ave Venuezuela and nearby San Vicente Ave. has the biggest concentration of discos, pubs, clubs, colmadones and bars in Santo Domingo. The area is near the 'barrios' so it is considered by locals as a dangerous area. I visited the area on X-mas 3 years ago and had lots of fun, visiting near a dozen clubs in one night.
I went to Casa Modelos on my last trip, and while talking to my girl she asked me places I have visited in the city. I mentioned a few places, including Ave. Venezuela discos, and she told me "are you crazy? Venezuela is dangerous I went there once and a guy got killed on Makumba (a disco), I have heard a lot of incidents occur in that area"

Avenida Venezuela is nice. I dont like macumba disco though. I think its ghetoo. Macumba is located a bit further down than the other bars. La barrica, house drink and wao are very nice and not gheto at all, its more like middle class. I feel very safe around that area. never had a problem or witness any problems. I usually park at the shell gas station and give the guard 100 pesos and its all good. This area is very iluminated and theres lots of people around. There are sooooo many hot chicks in this bars that its crazy.

I have to figure out the fastest/easiest way to get to Avenida Venezuela from Gazcue or Zona Colonial. One guy told me to take the Bosch Bridge, get off the first exit and that exit will take me to Ave Venezuela. When I drove on Avenida Venezuela during the day, I came to Las Americas road and made a right to go to the bridge and I have also made a left on Las Americas at its intersection with Ave. Venezuela. I did not see an under pass, over pass or a cross street near Ave. Venezuela and Las Americas (to get to Ave Venezuela you have to go north of Las Americas, zona colonial and gazcue are south of las americas).
If anyone knows the best way to get to Avenida Venezuela from Gazcue or Zona Colonial, I am all ears.

Casa Azul is very easy to find and has rooms on site, usually about 5-8 chicas. Has a big sliding metal gate outside that opens into a parking lot area. I have never had a problem at casa azul and I have not read any bad reports about casa azul. A former luche libre star (Mexican Wrestling) owns casa azul, however his health is bad now, so he probably will not be there. A shorter older dominican guy is usually there at night. If you go early in the day just open the large sliding gate which fronts the street and walk in. The chicas live there, so if you get there early you can have the chicas woken up.
If you like to exercise, a good excuse you can use to get away, is that you want to go and work out. The Olympic Park is near Casa Azul and Villa Juana. I have seen Dominicans entering the Olympic Park with workout clothes. Also if you come back sweaty and you want to take a shower quickly, the work out story has you covered for being sweaty and wanting to shower quickly.
There are some gyms that sell short term memberships, which is another option. Casa Theresa is about 2-3 blocks from Casa Azul, but Casa Theresa is usually not open early.

Was on Avenida Venezuela last Saturday night and it was crazy. Making the left turn at the light is an adventure in and of itself. I usually turn left again off Ave Venezuela and park on the side streets. Guys to watch your car and lots of people in the streets make it a pretty safe environment.
Hit Casa Theresa Sunday night and it was really lacking. Really nice chica was being salidaed just when we got there and I only saw one other chica that even vaguely attracted me.

I did not know about the tunnels under las americas roadway. The side streets off of Avenida Venezuela look a little dark, for parking your car. To be able to park at the Shell Gas Station is a good option. Some bars on Avenida Venezuela are not open or crowded every night. Friday or Saturday nights would probably be the best nights.

i found santo domingo to be a very safe and pleasant city, specially when you have a gf with you to go sightseeing. if you plan things just right, you won't have to wait for those 2 days in order to get some quick p4p done.

Independencia and Pasteur to keep you occupied, providing of course your taste runs to overweight, dark-skinned, single moms.

During the day the inside bar may be closed in which case you can walk to the back yard of 305 and hang out there.

The best place to take a chica from Casa Australia is Hotel Sol de Verano. It is on Nicolas de Ovando #327, a few blocks north Casa Australia. The price for short term was 615 pesos, barely under $17.00. Rooms are nice and large, with a/c, bathroom, large screen lcds with tv and music, porno channels a large and confortable bed, marble floors. Room service with drinks and hot food available, condoms, pills etc. There is a cabana near Australia on Pedro Livio Cedeno but it is not as nice as Sol de Verano.

I will be staying at the Hotel Riazor for 4 nights at a price of $58.00 per night. My only issue is, arriving this early in the morning i wont be able to check in till early to mid afternoon. Any suggestions on a short stay hotel close by? Or should i just book that Thursday i depart from Long B?

I am going to do six in reality, but I should have told her 2 and left it at that. I have thought about it after your post and have excused it to 3 days with her (LOL). Claro and Orange are the two biggest cell phones companies in Dominican Republic. Claro has a shop on the second floor of the airport.
Claro sells cell phones for about 500 pesos (about 13 US Dollars). You add minutes to your prepaid Claro cell phone by purchasing phone cards, 60 pesos, 100 pesos, 250 pesos, 500 pesos. For Claro you dial 1133, press send and then enter the code from under the scratch off part from the back of the phone card you purchased. Very Easy. Some guys buy chips and switch out the chip when they are in Dom Rep. A chica told me a chip for Orange is 200 pesos.
Having a local cell phone will save you money.

mardonius if you are a non spanish speaking person like my self you just need to know deposit, withdraw, checking and savings in spanish and the atm transaction is quite simple. i always try english first and if there is a problem i will select the spanish menu. don't know why but the spanish menu always seem to spit out my cash. who knows, maybe the machine is saving the last pesos for locals.
if bringing $usd there are casa de cambios rep001tered all about the city. franks on el conde usually gives the best exchange. the biggest rip offs for exchanging money will be at the airport and at the hotels. travelers checks are pretty much a no no to bring. a lot of places don't want to be bothered cashing them or the hassle is not worth it.
don't forget to print out the boricua online map. it is a great map to fold up and put in your pocket when you are out and about. some of the cab drivers don't know where some of the casas are so the map will come in handy.
