In Santo Domingo walk down El Conde between Calles Santome & Espaillat and look to your left. There will be some street vendors that deal in cell cards etc. They can most likely hook you up. There is also a Claro store in the same area.You can buy a prepaid SIM card for an iphone. No need to cut anything. Bring the phone to an Orange or Claro store. They will sell you what you need.

I know next to nothing about this except that I'll need a cutter to trim a Claro or Orange card to fit my unlocked 4s. I didn't know that until today. Can I buy the SIM in the US? Anyone care to recommend a cutter? I'd prefer to do this before going down (in 18 days!) in case I have a problem. Claro sells the Iphone 4S, so I'm sure they will know how to load the sim in the device.Just go to any Claro store and they will sell you a SIM Card for your Iphone. That is what I did when I went to SD. Then you can add minutes and unlimited internet. It is very cheap and the internet is fast better than Sprint in the USA Good luck.

On Thursday, I went to Casa Theresa (TC) on Ortega why Gasset street. The Casa was set up like a strip club. As you walk in the front door you see a living room with a set of stairs to the right and another door to the left. When you walk through the door to your left you have the main room which has a strip pole. This room also has a long benches bordering the walls. On Friday, was still exhausted from prior night, decided to leave hotel at around 10 pm and wanted to explore Casas out of the tourist zone (Gazcue and Conde). Since I observed a lot of potential in TC I drove to Casa Azul / Pablitos, if I remember the house was actually pink. Driving in SD is a blood sport. It can be done but it is a serious matter. Very few traffic lights and many cars with DR drivers. In SD like most big cities cabs make sence. Sd is very different from the north coast I have seen nothing close to classicos. However if you are a casa guy SD can meet your need with a variety of casas. I try to wife up when in SD. Saves time and frustration.

As far as the Casas go, there are a few located on Av Pasteur with 305 located nearby on Av Independencia. I hesitate to call this a report since it's not exactly the kind of fare that's posted here and my experiences seem to differ at times from others.
I've been to the DR several times – santo domingo, puerto plata, sosoua and boca chica. However, I haven't been there for about 15 years and I remember very little. If you're looking for sexcapades or, for that matter, useful info that hasn't been covered, you will be disappointed. I simply want to relate my experiences. The primary reason for my visit was to have a relaxing vacation. I include meeting women for a good time in my definition of relaxing vacation, hence the relevancy to this board.
Before going further, I would like to thank past and present members of this board. Much of the info posted on the board proved to be invaluable and I pored over it prior to my trip. And I can't say thanks enough to Jao, whose posts not only on ISG were immensely helpful, but also his countless emails chocked full of incredibly useful info and photos went way beyond the call of duty. Without all this, my trip would not have been nearly as fun as it was, and it was fun.
I should also add a guide book was of some use, though not nearly as useful as the info mentioned above. If you want to know about all the 'normal' sites and that sort of thing, then you need a guide book. I only mention this because several members said a guidebook was unnecessary given all the info on ISG. Hey, it's not the be all and end all and not all encompassing, as great as it is.
It was a short trip. I traveled from NY to Florida for one day to visit family (hey, I have a small family!) , and then off to Santo Domingo for 4 nights. I chose the DR mostly because it's relatively close to NY and my time was limited. It's also inexpensive comparatively.
I stayed at Hotel Palacio in zona colonial. I couldn't have been happier there. I got the best room because I'm spoiled like that, not rich. I like nice hotels and nice hotel rooms. The private balcony was bigger than most rooms. The hotel had some minor issues, but it was a total trip and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. As stated elsewhere, it was girl friendly. I made sure to register for 2 so as not to incur additional fees.
I tried to set up a GFE before traveling. No luck. No luck in doing so when I was there either, but I made some invaluable contacts for the next time, assuming there is a next time. I'm not into getting laid as often as I can, at least not any more, haha. I'm 60 and the libido and traveling goals are not the same as they once were. All I really wanted was one woman who could be more or less everything to me. A friend, a guide, a lover. A temporary wife, hahaha. I'm not making any judgments here; to each his own. I did set up some meets beforehand using badoo and cupid. While many women professed interest and gave me numbers, I only met 4 despite my efforts. There was little chemistry or attraction with the ones I met except as follows.
I actually became enamored with one girl online (cupid) from San Pedro even though such a relationship went against all my rules. And that is, she has 2 kids and spoke no English. I didn't mention that my Spanish is not very good but good enough to have basic communication. Meeting her was another story and is kind of funny. She's very sweet and innocent and works like a dog as a secretary. 60 hours. 6 days a week and for peanuts. Her boss gave her a very hard time about taking a day off to meet me. Plans kept changing and I gave up at one point. But she was persistent about meeting. She took a few hours off from work and took a one hour bus ride to meet in a park in zona colonial. The kicker is she came with her mother! It turned out she was afraid to travel to the big city alone. How weird! She had such little time though – she spent 90 minutes with me, that she didn't have time to wait for our lunch order. The double kicker is that I'm still enamored with her. Perhaps there's something to be said for plain old mongering, haha.
I was striking out with women. I tried finding a few chica friendly bars in the area but I'm hopeless without a GPS or a guide. The nonsensical street numbers and lack of street names were of no help either. As a last resort, I took a taxi to Satin Dolls. As you probably know, there are several other similar places next to Satin Dolls. I say 'last resort' because this is simply not my thing. It's not so much the money. Actually, it's not the money. I'm very uncomfortable being surrounded by women and having to make a choice. I was outside my comfort zone. I know, many guys think this is heaven. The first place I went to, not Satin Dolls, was filled with a dozen or so beauties, all 7 to 9's and probably a 10 or two. I picked one and was given a price of $4500RD. I got up to leave without saying a word thinking this was ridiculous. As soon as I started walking, the price was lowered to $3500. I kept walking. When I got outside, the guy following me all along, lowered it to $2500. I would have paid that but the whole thing totally turned me off and told him to take a hike. I guess I'm not the bargaining type. And there was something about screwing a hardened pro that turned me off. I should also add that $4500RD is still a bargain compared to the US. I just didn't like getting taken advantage of.
I got back in the cab and the driver said he would find someone to my liking. I lost my desire to go to Satin Dolls or any of the other nearby houses. Amazingly, thirty seconds after we started driving, we saw an amazing chica walking, a 10 in my book. She wanted 2000RD and I agreed, no bargaining. It turned out she was on her way to one of the houses, or something like that. I suppose 2000 was more than what she would have gotten anyway if she had to pay the house. We went back to the Palacio and I tell you, it ranked among the worst sex ever, and I can tell you stories of some bad sex. Although I was promised 2 hours, it seemed she was in a race to take my milk in 2 seconds. A total turn off. I told her to leave and chalked it up to being a stupid gringo.

I was embarrassed that I couldn't get it up, but the whole scenario turned me off. I didn't protest and was actually glad to see her go. But I yelled at the driver and refused to give him a tip, which turned into a mini argument.
Perhaps I should be banned from ISG for not being manly enough, haha. The day before, I went to Boca Chica. It's been a long time since I was there. 15 years probably. Things didn't seem to change much though, except there was no place to relax and stay by the ocean without being hassled to rent a chair and a million other things. I tell ya, I don't mind the touts so much and expected it. I know how to handle them. But all the women seem to work for pimps and there didn't seem to be any freelancers. Not that there were many women there when I was there, a rainy Wednesday.
I ended up talking to several of the pimps or touts or whatever you want to call them and we had interesting conversations. I kept saying I didn't want a chica mainly because I didn't see any women I was remotely interested in. But I took the bait when a tout told me he had exactly what I was looking for, young, blanco and pretty. However, I almost vomited when he introduced me. He said she was 16 but she didn't even look that old. While I admit to being attracted, this is something I draw the line at. I honestly felt sorry for her. I immediately headed back to Santo Domingo.
Don't fret, I ended up getting my rocks off several times and happily so. I innocently went to a salon on El Conde to get a manicure and pedicure. I didn't realize they offered everything! All the salons seem to operate similarly and this was where I found relief. It was similar to a massage with happy ending in the US, and I enjoy this sort of thing.
Contrary to what I read, I saw virtually no SW's on El Conde, including outside Paco's. I walked the strip a bunch of times at different times of the day and night. El Conde was a trip, but 4 days of it was more than enough. I used this area as my home base for taking off to other parts of the city to see and do things. It really is an interesting area, culturally that is.
My next to last day, I ended up meeting a tour guide by the outdoor restaurant at the other end of El Conde from Paco's. We talked for several hours on a few occasions. Not necessarily about women, but about life in general in SD. He spoke some English and with my limited Spanish, we had no problem understanding each other. We became friends and mentioned the next time I came to SD, he would find exactly what I was looking for.
I ended up buying Sildenafil (Viagra) from 2 places on El Conde. The first place was a large drug store and I forget exactly what I paid, but somewhere around $2 / each. I later decided that at that price, I wanted more, and came across a tiny farmacia. I think I got a pretty darn good price at $1. 29 / each.
I won't go into much else outside my sexual misadventures, but suffice to say, I had a wonderful time. I enjoy traveling alone and going to places outside the usual touristy things and simply talking to people to understand the culture.
Just a few words on the food and restaurants. I'm very judgmental about restaurants since I've worked in the business for 20 years. I'm a big believer in service. This is something that seems to be lacking not only in RP but every Latin American country I went to. Of course there are exceptions, but I found this to be the rule of thumb.
I went out to eat with a chica at an extremely overpriced place outside zona colonial, Sophia's Bar & Grill. I asked about the wine and was told they had red or white. Give me a break! The kicker was that no one came to us during or after the meal to see how we were doing. The waiter was simply an order taker. I should add that the bill was about $85 for 2. All we had was one of the most inexpensive entrees (risotto) and a glass of wine each.
However a real jewel, recommended by Jao, was a Dominicana restaurant 2 blocks from the hotel, Mesóand the'Bari Restaurant. I went solo and had the entire upstairs dining room to myself. Downstairs was a bar with food and was filled with Dominicans. I think I was the only gringo there. The food was wonderful, but again, not cheap all things considered. About $25 for an entrée and beer. The kicker to me was the waiter and I were alone. Not once did he come to me for anything. For the most part, he was staring out the window.
For the most part, El Conde is overpriced. There's a somewhat typical outdoor Dominican place on the corner of Duarte where the Palacio is. The food was okay but it seems you can't get away with spending under $10 for a typical dish. I went there with the girl and mother from San Pedro and it cost about $50. And again, no real service.
I think the Dominicans invented the saying that nothing in life is free. Ask a question, and it'll cost you. I understand the poverty and am as sympathetic as anyone, but it really hardens people.
But I'll stop here before I digress too much. All in all, I had a wonderful time. But the next time, and I believe there will be a next time soon, I will be more savvy and have an even better time.

I debated back and forth whether to stay in BC or SDQ and in the end, decided BC wasn't the place for me. One thing that made up my mind is the dearth of more luxury type hotels in BC. I am far from the expert on BC and suggest you look at the BC section. I was only there for a few hours in the afternoon as well as 15 years ago for a few days. It's a matter of personal taste. BC is definitely a trip and if you don't mind touts and you like partying and insanity, then BC might be a better option. But seriously, I think you'd do yourself a service by reading over the posts in both sections.

Back when I knew nothing about mongering or that the DR ever existed on a world map I met a chick (AW) in a club in Houston while on leave and got her number. Read the forum regarding Santo Domingo and excited for my trip. I went to Boca Chica several months ago for the weekend and was actually quite disappointed. I have been to Sousa over 6 times within the last few years and am only going to Santo Domingo in order to "test my mettle" so to speak. Dominican Cupid has been awesome for me as, but I've been able to figure it out a lot better after dealing with the site for over 3 months already.
In Sosua, chicas only want to know a few key tid bits of info from you:
-When did you arrive
-How long are you staying
-Where you are staying (hotel)
-When are you leaving
-What's your email address
In case you didn't know about Sosua, it is similar to the red light district in Pattaya or Bangkok Thailand but on a much smaller scale: pros out and about, discos and bars, point and click.
Aside from a few spots with streetwalkers and some casas around the city, Santo Domingo is nothing like Sosua. Joyra, I don't know what your mongering background is, but if you are looking for straight up pros or semi pros then you may want to try something different.
I have been to Sousa over 6 times within the last few years and am only going to Santo Domingo in order to "test my mettle" so to speak. Dominican Cupid has been awesome for me as, but I've been able to figure it out a lot better after dealing with the site for over 3 months already.
In Sosua, chicas only want to know a few key tid bits of info from you:
-When did you arrive.
-How long are you staying.
-Where you are staying (hotel)
-When are you leaving.
-What's your email address.
In case you didn't know about Sosua, it is similar to the red light district in Pattaya or Bangkok Thailand but on a much smaller scale: pros out and about, discos and bars, point and click.
Aside from a few spots with streetwalkers and some casas around the city, Santo Domingo is nothing like Sosua. The main draw for me was the chance to mingle with women not as traversed (her belly is still warm from the monger she was just with 10 minutes ago) as Sosua chicks. My response rate from the women on DC has been consistently 95-97. The real problem arises when you start to try to establish connections with them, because you will quickly realize it's going to take a lot more work than just saying you are "looking for someone to have fun with."
This has been my observations while dealing with DC chicas:
-They don't start off by asking when you are coming to SD. Actually, most of them have assumed that I already live there even though my profile states that I live in the US. Also (YMMV) almost all of them ask me "Tu eres Dominicano?" I'm guessing I could pass for Dominican based on my photo. I tell them that I am not, and it has yet to keep them from conversing with me.
-They want to know what you do for a living.
-They want to know what you are looking for (most chicas on DC assume you are looking for the same thing as them: a relationship or marriage)

To make a long story short, if you are looking for a chica to which you can just say "come on over and let's fuck", then you may want to go to Sosua instead. But if you are willing to put in some time and effort (and are comfortable with the fact that you may not have sex the first time you meet her) , then Santo Domingo and Dominican Cupid should work out in your favor. If not, there are always Casas and Streetwalkers to fall back on.
*Alternate strategies:

It's tempting to go fishing this far out from your trip, but I would wait until you are getting closer to December. The problem I am having is that I started over the summer, and some of those summer connects I am now trying to reconnect with don't remember who I am, LOL. And some of them don't come on DC or LAC anymore. That's why it's better to try to establish connects much closer to your trip or while on the ground there. I would not rely on the latter too much because sometimes these chicas go days or weeks without checking their accounts, and if you tried to send her a message while there she may not get it until after you're back in the states from your trip.
Another tip: When doing your search for Santo Domingo, keep the setting at a 50 mile radius. If a chica contacts you from a place you never heard of before, just copy and paste it into Google Maps and see how far it is from SD. You can also just ask the chica how far she is from la capital. But some of the responses I have gotten have been all over the map. One chica from Mao was trying to tell me it's only an hour and a half away, which is clearly not the case.

I used Hotwire to book my trip. Palacio is a personal favorite. I have stayed there in the pass and have enjoyed the location. In the center of the Colonal zone. So I joined the gym. Felt good to be back in there. I got cardio in and other stuff. Cost me $2k Road for 15 days. Glad I didn't join forthr month as I had been running everyday up until now.

I will be in Santo Domingo this upcoming thanksgiving for three days. Was supposed to go last month but didn't make it.
Anyways looking forward to it. Didn't have the best time in Boca Chica several months ago (off season) and hoping SD will be a step up.
Quick questions.
Was going to stay at Palacio but figured I would pay a bit more and stay in a place with a pool and more amenities. Is the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel / Casino chica friendly? What about the Intercontinental V Centenario?
Looking forward to visiting GBP. Where is that exactly so I know what to tell the cab?

Santo Domingo. – A 22-year old student of medicine was shot in the chest and died while taking part in a protest against the tax reform on the campus of the Santo Domingo State University USASD, where he becomes the first victim of the mounting demonstrations staged by the various sectors opposed to the legislation.
In the incident which took the life of Willy Florian Warden Ramirez (Bobo) a bus driver identified only as Jose Alberto was also injured by a bullet to the leg.
The student, who was in the fifth semester, was taken wounded to the National Police Central Hospital located several blocks from the USASD campus, where he was pronounced dead.
Since early morning Thursday the State University students began demonstrations against tax reform by hurling stones at some campus buildings, clashing with Police agents who fired semiautomatic weapons and tear gas.

On Thursday afternoon, National Police chief Jose A. * Polanco announced the start of an investigation into the fatal shooting.

I am planning my second trip to the DR for January 7-14. Haven't nailed down all the details yet, but one thing I have discovered is that Delta won't fly me with sky miles to Puerto Plata. It looks like SDQ is my only workable option to fly in. While I am sure I could stay entertained there, I would like to put in some time on the North Coast first and migrate southward at the end of my trip.
I know from reading the forum that a bus runs that route and is quite affordable. I am wondering what other affordable transportation options are available. I am sure a cab is prohibitively expensive considering the cost on my last trip of the average cab fare.

Day one. I almost over slept but my best friend in the world called me. Got to Sd and my long time driver eventually picked me and a wing man I just met go to my favorite Dominican barber for cut and shave. Check into my favorite hotel and it is on. My wingman is a little slow but very excited this is his first monger trip. I have planned a evening at the Disco. My sweet thing shows up at 5:30. She is very nervous but very sweet. Delta flies into sti which is like an hour away from puerta plata. For cheap transportation carbie tours would be your best betI did seriously consider STI. The only problem there is, my flight time with layovers and whatnot changes from a total of 6. 5 hours to 18 hours if I fly into STI. I get rerouted to some place far out of the way first instead of hitting ATL as my layover city. It looks like I will be bus tripping from SDQ.

I am very frugal and watch my pesos so I never double book. I wish there was a way to check luggage but have not been able to do it yet. I did on one occasion checked luggage at a casino. I played for a while went to another location and picked my things up later. I usually use the bus service and have not had any problems transporting my luggage.
