Mr. Enternational what's the name of the hotel? Sounds like a good deal.
My go to hotel had a room for me as usual. $40 / night, whirlpool and bar on the roof. I paid for 2 nights because I will be heading up north come Wednesday.

For the price you cannot beat Luis V, AC rooms, soft bed and possible upgrade to a room with a hot tub for 30 more dollars. They have a bar and the Wifi works sometimes.

i thought i would give my thoughts on driving in santo domingo and some of the lessons i have learned that might be applied throughout the dominican republic. first, and most important thing to remember there are no rules to driving in santo domingo. that is the most important thing you must learn. if you remember that one thing, you will be fine driving if you forget you might get into an accident. i think many of you have read a story on this board that someone driving did not expect someone to drive by on there left and take a right in front of them or do some other aggressive driving move – well they will and do it all the time. if you understand there are no rules to driving there, you will not make that mistake. ' you must at all times use both driver side mirrors constantly to look for trouble on each side'.
taxis, busses and motor conchos job is to pick up passengers and make money. why is that important to know because they can stop anywhere at any time to pick up or drop off a passenger they do not care about you and as such you need to drive, accordingly. a taxi will speed past you on your left to get in front of you to stop on your right in an instant. this move will happen to you all the time. get use to it and drive, accordingly.
another thing, do not wait for a driver to give you the right away and be respectful most times they will not and you can not be upset by this – that is just how they drive there do not take it personal.
driving around is not that hard if you get lost. 'so what' you might use it as a pick up line. i use being lost all the time asking a pretty chica where something is most of them never know and who cares you will be shocked how many girls you can pick up just offering them a ride down the street. being nice and respectful, can work wonders to meeting girls and a car can be a great ticket to enter the game.

Do girls accept us dollars or should I give them pesos?Use pesos for everything in the DR except for airport entry and exit fees (if you are liable for these). Change your dollars into pesos in the DR at reputable places such as Western Union or RUSA. You will get a much better rate than at home.
If you use dollars you will suffer from "rounding up". Over your whole trip this could add up to quite a lot. The locals can round up quite a lot because:
(1) exchange rates fluctuate and they want to make sure they don't lose out.
(2) most of them are innumerate and cannot calculate the right change. And even if they could they might not have it. Change is hard to get in the DR.
A typical scenario: a puta would be happy to get 1500 pesos from you (about US$32. 80) but if you paid in dollars would insist on US$50.

I jump in a publico and I say 27 Febrero, along the way some passengers get off and others get on and I am squashed. Get off at 27 Feb and ask directions to Avenida Lincoln. Jump in another publico and head in the general direction. Arrive at Lincoln and get off. Total of 50 pesos. Ask for Ave Tiradentes and was told it was in direction that I had already passed. Walk towards Tiradentes looking for Arismendy motors. Saw it, crossed the street and enter GBP in building next to it.
Its dark coming from the sunlight but when my eyes get accustomed to the gloom I perceive 14 chicas muy lindas and I am the only customer. I am in paradise. They all look very enticing and are encouraging me seductively. These chicas are much hotter than most of what I saw in Sosua the previous 12 days. Reasonable fare for the routes you traveled would have been 200 pesos per trip. If you ask the fare when you call the taxi they will tell you the same. Of course your negotiating position is much stronger when you are on the phone and you can hang up at will. I decided to travel to the Dominican Republic after finding that airfare was not expensive. I paid 97 dollars of taxes the trip was free thanks to True blue points from Jet Blue. My flight left the San Juan terminal two hours late so I got a $50 credit for a future trip. I arrived by 4:00 pm Exchange at the airport was 42.90 pesos per dollar at the local bank booth. During my trip I exchanged cash 3 times: at 43.05 on Caribe Express, 43.05 at Western Union Puerto Plata and 43.00 next to my hotel in Santo Domingo. My cab driver pick me on time as usual and paid 125 pesos for my first jumbo at bomba Texaco outside airport. During the route to the city he told me that he has a girl for me. "now that I have saw the kind of girl you like I met this lady that I have sometimes as a client, she once told me that if I have a friend I trust you can introduce her to him" he affirmed. I said sure, I'll ride with you. I wasn't happy about being scammed, so I told him I'm not paying you as I gave you 800 pesos and that would be more than good enough for a ride and back. I always find out the prices before I even board a cab (many times I ask the hotel worker). Before boarding I negotiate and always pay in local currency. By the time I get out of the cab I give him alot of small bills. By the time he finishes counting all the bills I'll be down the block and out of sight. I usually get cheated when I do not know the prices beforehand, do not know the area, or do not have many options when traveling from point A to point B.
If I am with a reliable chica I let her do the negotiating. If I am visiting a chica, when I arrive, I let her tell the cab driver how much I will pay him.
Even with all this, unless you live in the DR it is hard not to be cheated by cabbies.

I was actually going to post this in the Boca Chica thread but since we are talking about rip offs I decided to post it here instead.
Yesterday me and my main girl left the capital headed to Juan Dolio. I stopped at my favorite pica pollo place in Boca Chica to eat. I told her that she had better get something to eat here but she said she wanted fish. She suggested going to my favorite lady on the street behind the beach. It was already into the afternoon so I told her that if we did that then we would waste too much time. She said that she didn't care how much it cost, she would just buy it in Juan Dolio. Hard head woman I told her.
It took us 15 minutes to arrive in Juan Dolio from Boca Chica. I parked the car in a parking space in front of the beach. When we got out there was a guy with pre-printed receipts taking money for parking. I told him fuck that shit. I'm not paying your ass to park here and kept walking. He didn't make a fuss. He just kept on about his business. My girl went to change into her bathing suit.
When she came out we looked for a place on the beach. We decided on a table with chairs under an umbrella. The guy brought us a menu. The prices were so steep. The same fish that is in Boca Chica that I pay 350 for was 600 (She said she had paid 1200 for that type fish and beer at D'Luis on the malecon in Santo Domingo before - that is MrGogo's rip-off spot!) Pina Coladas with alcohol were 300 and without alcohol 290. We ordered 1 fish and 1 pina colada. I drank my drink while she played in the water. It was a long time before her fish arrived, but when it did we ordered 2 more pina coladas.
When we finally decided to leave the guy went to get the bill. 1 fish and 3 pina coladas should add up to 1500 pesos. I had 1000 and my girl had 500 ready. The bill he came with was 2270! I said what the fuck is this? The guy explained 600 fish, 900 pina colada, 250 table. What the fuck. I'm not paying for a table. The guy explained that he had nothing to do with the food and drinks because it comes from a restaurant across the street and he only does the tables and chairs on the beach. My girl said the guy did tell her about the table cost when we sat down.
She wanted to keep discussing it with the guy. He walked off to get another guy to help explain. I told my girl to get her shit together because we were getting out of there. She started procrastinating. Look woman get your fucking shit or I will leave you and it here together. She took 300 more pesos out of her purse. The guys came back saying the other 520 pesos was for percentages. I didn't even let him finish talking. I said I didn't order any percentages so I'm not paying for any. You better take this 1800 pesos and get the fuck out of my face. I handed him the money and we walked off. She thought I was headed to the airport to catch a flight out but indeed I was headed to Bonao to get with one of my other chicks.

I called Aero Taxi in front of him, asked for a confortable (air conditioned unit) from Agora to El Conde. 170 pesos.

It was stated before we paid that the tables are for rent. I walked with one of the ladies to a local place to get our food, get a good combo of chicken wings pork chops and sausage with guineos and a jumbo beer for about $10.
Here in Puerto Rico in many beaches you can rent chaise lounges and beach umbrellas or bring your own. I have a beach kit that consists of a beach chair, umbrella, a cooler for the beer, wine and others, sometimes a grill.

Actually you were undercharged. In Sosua the restaurants seem to include the taxes and service charge in the menu prices, but in Puerto Plata and some other places they don't. I am honestly not sure whether this is part of gringo pricing.
1500 for the food and drinks, plus 250 for the table, chairs and ocean view is 1750.
Add 18% ITBIS tax and that takes it to 2065.
Add 10% service charge and your total is 2271 pesos, so it looks like they were giving you a discount of one peso.
Or were they? One might argue that the 10% service charge should not be levied on the 315 pesos of ITBIS, in which case they were overcharging you about 30 pesos.
I would like to see how you would handle the sales tax or any request for a tip in a restaurant in the US.

Actually you were undercharged. In Sosua the restaurants seem to include the taxes and service charge in the menu prices, but in Puerto Plata and some other places they don't. I am honestly not sure whether this is part of gringo pricing.
1500 for the food and drinks, plus 250 for the table, chairs and ocean view is 1750.
Add 18% ITBIS tax and that takes it to 2065.
Add 10% service charge and your total is 2271 pesos, so it looks like they were giving you a discount of one peso.
Or were they? One might argue that the 10% service charge should not be levied on the 315 pesos of ITBIS, in which case they were overcharging you about 30 pesos.

Hell, I didn't even know people still used CDs.

When you observe the Thai people parking they don't ask for anything and the people don't give them anything. I remember one time in Atlanta people got arrested for charging game goers to park in a lot near the baseball stadium that they didn't even own.
It's funny how people here in DR just make up their own jobs then expect you to pay them. Washing clean windows of a car at the stop light with dirty water? That is akin to me walking into an office and sitting at a desk all day then at the end expecting the manager to pay me. MF I didn't hire you. You can't force your services on me and expect to get paid. I once saw a guy in Santiago filling up his wash water bottle from a puddle on the ground in front of a curb.
My girl didn't get to explain percentages to me because for one she didn't know what it was. For two I was not about to wait there while he made something up to explain it. We walked off while he was trying to think of how to explain it. That is why I told her to get her things because I didn't plan on sticking around. Though I've always been aware of the ridiculous 28% tax on meals & hotel rooms in the DR, I've never asked who gets the 10% part of it that often says "house charge or fee" on the bill. Does this 10% go directly to the server? Or does it go into the owners pocket?

Well I've been back home for four days now but unable to give a full report. Just to say that the non bedroom activities were better in Sosua but the shagging was better in Santo Domingo. Nevertheless I will not recommend one city over the other as one man's experience will not necessarily be anothers. I did have a couple duds in GBP and though the chicas in La Teresa where I bonked on my last night in SDO were hot, at 4000 pesos per session, I will give GBP better value for money.
Regarding touts and taxi drivers. My behavior towards touts worldwide has evolved. I used to get very pissed years ago at constant harassment in some destinations and on occasions shouted and in one instance ran away from a persistent bloke who was hounding me. Today I am a model of patience.
In Sosua I was always courteous to the guys trying to get me to buy from their stall. Unfortunate for them I never buy anything that I don't need. It takes nothing out of me to stop and tell the guy sorry I really don't need to buy this and that and sometimes just make a joke with them. I try to put myself in their shoes and I can imagine that disrespect can be even more hurtful than lack of sales.
Regarding taxis in SDO it is nothing less than a rip off. The absence of a metering system allows unscrupulous drivers to charge a gringo tax. The taxi driver I took on my last night from SDO Este to La Teresa charged me 250 pesos where I was charged an average of 400 pesos for shorter distances before. We had a discussion in Spanglish and Engnish and he told me that the high end casas including La Teresa charge a gringo tax. On arrival he offered to speak on my behalf to reduce my cost, but I declined his offer. I do believe that they get a commission so he did enter with me and I suppose that he was taken care of. I have his phone number and will certainly call him if I return.
I must say that overall the DR is quite a good destination for our hobby. I did not get to Boca Chica this trip mainly because SDO was better than I expected. However, both Sosua and SDO have their challenges. SDO mainly because of the difficulty of moving around. If they had a taxi system like other countries where you can hail a metered yellow cab on the streets it would be much more tourist friendly. I saw many really hot chicas on the streets of SDO but as has been said on this board knowledge of Spanish is important for making any progress with them. This is definitely a destination worth visiting.

Maybe there should be a Santo Domingo taxi guide or something. It's really very easy to avoid taxi ripoffs. It's been written many times but for some reason some don't pay attention. Mr. Turgin, I am not directing this at you. It is for the benefit of all:
If you call and ask for the fare in advance you will not be ripped off.
- tell the dispatcher where you are and where you want to go.
- ask for the fare "tarifa".
- confirm the fare with the driver before getting in the taxi.
- the dispatcher will tell you the taxi number and the color of the car, pay attention to this so you don't get into a random taxi.
- 200 is the most you should pay between most any locations without crossing the river.
- 400 is the most you should pay within the center city between any two points.
Some of you are probably thinking right now "I can't do this because I don't speak Spanish. " Get the hotel or other business where you are to call you a taxi. All you really need to know are the max fares shown above to let somebody else do the talking.

I went again to Jaragua casino. It was Thursday and it was a slow night. No girls were inside the Merengue Bar. The live show began and a few couples enter. I really like the DR and Santo Domingo but, the hassle of the taxis, small time scams, and people trying to squeeze a dollar out of you really discourages me from going more often. I feel completely on edge about everything I buy and every where I go because of this feeling that someone is trying to screw me. I used to go to Cancun all the time for vacation but, I will not go anymore because from the moment I step out of the airport until the moment I get on the plane to leave someone is trying to sell me something or squeeze an extra dollar out of me. Waited 15 minutes for the cab to come got in the cab went 3 or 4 km to the casino with a stop at a pharmacy on the way. We went through the drive thru which took 3 minutes. When we got to the Casino he wanted $25.00. Ridiculous- Also, having the hotel, or restaurant or club call a taxi there can be a wait time of 10-15 minutes. In any case, I do I understand what your saying and in theory it is a good idea but, after a few drinks and other factors it isn't always the easiest option.

I actually did this at a Sushi restaurant. Had the place call a cab for me. Waited 15 minutes for the cab to come got in the cab went 3 or 4 km to the casino with a stop at a pharmacy on the way. We went through the drive thru which took 3 minutes. When we got to the Casino he wanted $25.00. Ridiculous- Also, having the hotel, or restaurant or club call a taxi there can be a wait time of 10-15 minutes. In any case, I do I understand what your saying and in theory it is a good idea but, after a few drinks and other factors it isn't always the easiest option.

Once the woman gets married she will have to wait for quite awhile to get the green card and then she can bring her parents (short wait time) but siblings are out on a limb of a 10 year wait or so in case of say, the Philippines. Even her children if older than 21 are shit out of luck. By the way, all this because this country has been giving preferential treatment to family but many other countries like the UK, Germany, Canada are prioritizing only folks with brain for immigrant visas which has already lit a fire under the immigration act in this country.

Regarding befriending wrong people, yes it can happen but in my 25+ years of travel across most places barring Africa and South America, the only bad thing that happened to me is having my passport stolen on the bus, in Rome, Italy of all places, my maiden trip abroad. I do not do drugs or cigarettes, booze has very limited attraction and rarely beyond a beer / wine or two and so I have low likelihood of running into the wrong kinds. At least I have evaded that so far. I have another advantage, being a brown skinned guy, I am not the kind that draws attention of the wrong people plus people cannot quite figure out where I am from. Chileno or Puertorriqueno is what makes me crack up but then an average Dominican is not very informed about the ways of the world.

I am not claiming there are more women cheating vs those that don't, so I am at a lost as to why you are giving examples of women that supposedly don't cheat? What am I missing here?I have noticed for whatever reason you like to jump at other people on the board. Not sure why, maybe you have an insecurity problem. I do not know and really do not care. But, to you point about me being in the twilight zone I live in reality. In fact, I am in santo domingo right now. Anybody, can pretend to be a king among putas, but please enlighten me how I pull a non pro at the hottest nightclub on Venezuela on Saturday night since I am so in the twilight zone. I like to go real late and do not make reservations and I like to go to euphoria on Saturdays since you need a reservation to get in late night. You know so much tell me the best time to go and I like to sit up front with the other ballers again that is my reality. Now tell me what I should do because I only like pulling non pros.
