thankssorry about the delay in responding here. better late than never. the kayaks where longer about 12 feet, i forget the brand but okay and worked well as they were sit on tops with ergonomic seats. don't remember the name of the place but it was one of the windsurf places that has a volleyball court in front on the beach. cabarette is a beautiful long and wide beachh. went out twice once when the water was calm and once when it had just rained. it is best to go in the morning before the winds pick up as this is a world class windsurfing spot.

Don't remember the name of the place but it was one of the windsurf places that has a volleyball court in front on the beach. Cabarette is a beautiful long and wide beachh. Went out twice once when the water was calm and once when it had just rained. It is best to go in the morning before the winds pick up as this is a world class windsurfing spot.Thanks. 12 foot is a good enough length, those may even have waterproof hatches to store stuff. The amateur ones are barely 6 ft and fairly flat bottomed. Never been to east of Sosua so far, on the north coast.
Arriving at Casa Cayena for three weeks on the 3rd of February. Into kayaking and swimming besides all the other activities Sosua has to offer. Anyone interested in going to Cabarette or other beaches besides hitting the Strip let me know. I speak enough Spanish to get by comfortably.
I will be in Santo Domingo from February 20th to March 10th. This is my 7th trip to Santo Domingo and my first time traveling with a wingman. If anybody want to meet there for a drink pm me.

I figured I would post my dates after locking up my final details. This being my first trip I didn't book or plan anything crazy. I stuck to the pretty standard advice found on this forum. While I have quite a bit of experience in the states on the USA forum this will be my first international experience. Now I just have to figure out how to stay calm while I wait for the next 40 days. I will be flying in POP on April 22nd and staying 2 nights at BB to get my feet wet before heading to Sosua for 5 nights where I will be staying at Rocky's suites. I look for to having some detailed reports for you guys and hopefully meeting a few of you. The forum has been of great help and a special thanks to Chris Long for his help.

It's your first trip bro, do the basics first. It's plenty to do in Sosua for a few days. You don't need a driver. Walk down to the beach and post up at big mommas (you can't miss her). Post up at big mommas and have some drinks and kill an afternoon. Get a massage or mani / pedi at one of the local spots. Walk around Sosua people watching. At night hit the strip and do the after hours club. After all of this your vacation will be over and your breakin period will be over.
My first trip I over-thought everything, that's a common rookie mistake. Just get there and you and your boys can hang out and have a ball. Oh, don't forget to report back.

Going back July 16-21st. Sosua was very easy to maneuver so ready for another great trip. Will be staying at different venues with different groups of friends.

I'm in Cambodia now and you can get girls for $ 20 short time or $ 40 all night. They are freaky good in the room, exotic, now how to suck and massage you. The 4 nights /5 days in SD to start is out. Turns out the non-pro is a semi-pro, which wouldn't be a problem, but I caught her in several lies and she started to get possessive. Instead I'm renting a car (rookie mistake #1), and heading north from SDQ. I don't plan on doing any driving in SD.
First night I plan on stopping in Bonao or maybe La Vega, depends on where I can set something up. Possibly spending the second night in Santiago, before moving on north. After those non-specific plans I am going to spend several days on the north coast. Maybe a day or two at BBs, definitely a day or 3 in Sosua. The rest of the time I will fill in however seems best. Probably heading back to SDQ around April 29 or 30. Will drop off the car and get in my SD sightseeing.

Go is right. You do not need a car catch the bus to Sosua or Puerto Plata Black Beards. The bus will cost you $8 and are very modern. It makes no sence to rent a car just to park for the whole time. Renting cars are a bit risky. As you have stated you are going do what you choose. I never rent cars and go everywhere I want with no problems. If you have poor Spanish you need to be around people who do.

Plus your big mistake that you don't see coming is that once you clear the airport (SDQ) with the rental you will have to battle SD rush hour traffic to get to the main hwy to Santiago. If you take the new road to Nagua I'm betting you will miss the road after the toll and have to drive all the way to SD and turn around because there are no break in the roads. Basically what I'm saying is by the time you clear the airport with the rental one wrong turn and you will be stuck in a maze for the evening. I'm looking forward to your trip report.

I always smile at guys asking for recommendations of specific free-range chicas. Unless they are battery hens like those at Blackbeards or the former Passions, where there is a good chance you will be able to locate them when you visit. Otherwise, they move about, if they are good enough to recommend they can get locked up by guys for days or weeks on end, they get sick, they have periods, they fall in love, they get religion, they decide to go straight (until the money runs out), and even if you are lucky enough to find them there is no guarantee they would please you more than some random girl you could have thirty minutes after your arrival.
The only exceptions are really hardcore putas in Sosua and Boca Chica who are on duty 24/7 fifty-two weeks a year. And who the hell would recommend one of those?
The other reason it is futile is that we all have different tastes. I have a friend in Sosua who has the same preference as me for young, slender and fresh haitianas. He finds some stunners and I have never seen a chica of his I would not gladly do. And he never pays more than 1500, often very much less. But he is just one monger in hundreds I have met. I am totally uninterested in most chicas that other guys rave about.
You are going to a good and interesting area where you will not have much competition from other mongers. The Samana peninsula is known for haitianas and cocolos (dark-skinned dominicanas descended from slaves in former British colonies). If you are personable you should have no trouble finding some very nice girls for whom a gringo would be a relative novelty and would not charge you an arm and a leg.
Rather than asking for particular chicas, you should be asking for good pick-up places, bars, dance-halls, city squares, etc. That would be useful information if anyone can help.
I trust you have adequate Spanish? You won't get far in Nagua and Sanchez without it. Parts of the Samana peninsula are more touristy and you might scrape by with just English or French, though even there Spanish will enhance your experience a lot.
Would be great to meet a fellow monger. Plan to visit PP and Santiago.

The DR in their infinite wisdom made no provision for that and if you miss the off ramp coming from Boca Chica your screwed as it's a maze to get to it on surface streets.

It's nothing personal, but I'm probably a better driver than you. It's what I do. Every time I'm in a vehicle, whether driver or passenger, I am practicing, working on my skills.
For the night driving, thing, I personally would have thrown another 500 to the cabana, spent the night, maybe get another workout in the morning, and then drive to Sosua.
However, that point has already been passed. I'm now planning on taking Metro straight to Sosua and Metro back to SD after a week. If I decide to go exploring, I will rent a car locally for a few days.

Nobody here has said that you are not a good driver. But what all the DR vets are trying to tell you is that it is not about just driving, it is about the system. And if you don't know the DR system then you are fucked. I know the system and guess what. Sometimes I still end up fucked. What is the system you are asking? The system is that there is no fucking system. The shit is like the wild west. And that is not just due to the other drivers; it is mainly because of the infrastructure.
Most of the time the only signs you have to follow are the one in your head remembering and telling you that "this is the turn." Many of us have that advantage because of the experience of taking the same routes over and over. But you are working with a blank slate. You don't have that advantage. You might know where you are going, but you sure as hell will not be able to find out how to get there. The fairly new (3 years old or so) toll road from the Santo Domingo airport to the north? There ain't no fucking sign telling you where it is or that it is there. You just have to know how to get to it. That is what Gogo was trying to tell you. Me and him were together one time and even passed the shit (I haven't passed it since though). And like he said, ain't no getting off the exit ramp and going back the other way, because the next exit is not until you are damn near in the city 15 or 20 minutes away. Even then, god help you if you get off there at Av Espana and don't know what you are doing.
I remember once getting off on the wrong exit coming from Santiago into Santo Domingo right before Av Espana. For over 1 hour I drove in circles around a neighborhood and between the access road trying to figure out where the on ramp was. Guess fucking what. There was no on ramp. I finally figured out that the people had made their own on ramp by tearing down a part of that low concrete barrier (the ones that you see in the US cities that separate opposing traffic). So you were supposed to drive over the rocky shoulder and cue yourself up between the part of the barrier that was torn down. Then when you get a chance dart out onto the highway. Now how was a mf supposed to know that? "Practicing and working on your skills" will not show you that aspect of DR driving.
I once had a girl come up to the US from Peru and I went down to Miami to see her. I had a rental car so we drove up to Orlando. About half way up the Bee Line we had to stop for gas and went to Wendy's to get food. She told me that she wanted to drive. Now remember that she has a car in Lima, but she has never driven an automatic. First she started out with one foot on the gas and the other foot on the brake. Hey we don't drive like that here. I told her to take a right out of the parking lot and make her way over 3 lanes to get in the left hand turning lane. She made the right into the first lane, then without looking darted over diagonally to the damn turning lane almost causing an accident. Right there in the turning lane is when I took the car back from her. But see that is how they drive in Peru. She knew how to drive in Peru, but she sure as hell didn't know how to drive in the USA.

If it wasn't for the extra fee to drop elsewhere, I'd rent from Avis at SDQ and turn it in the next day at POP. If you think it's bad missing a turn in a car, you should try it in a truck. I once had the pleasure of backing up my trailer for 2 miles until I got to a spot to turn around.
The woman from Peru story is funny. She should have been working on her passenger seat duties instead of driving. I was in a similar situation once. A Japanese girl in San Diego on a student visa wanted to buy a Toyota I was trying to get rid of. She was willing to pay full price, but she didn't know how to drive a manual transmission. I got her to pay me an extra $100 to teach her. Spent 2 hours with my left hand on her thighs and my right hand on top of her hand on the gearshift. Took her to a big empty parking lot and just used my hand on her thigh and hand on the shifter to teach her. Once she got comfortable I let her take it out on the road. I had fun, got paid and sold the car for $1000 more than it was worth.
And, 6 months later, she abandoned the car when she went back to Japan. Towing company sent me a letter since she had never transferred title. I paid $500 in fees, turned around and sold it again for $1500.

It is becoming my favorite spot now. The price was 40 a night which is great. Also Ihad a bar maid in my room. I saw her at Classicos and went back to the room. She was a freak. Very classy while working but wild in the bed. At Europa I had no idea she was on the menu. Another bar girl gave me some play as well but wanted to be taken to a cabana. Only in Sosua.

I am heading down to Santa Dom in May, I plan on taking a bus to SOusa from Santa Domingo. Between the taxi from the airport and the wait for the bus and the bus ride, you have at least 7 hours wasted getting to Sosua. Unless your flight arrives by 1 pm, your chances of getting on the 4 pm Metro bus to Sosua are slim. You might be able to catch the Caribe bus, but if not, you're first night will be spent in Santo Domingo.
Then there is the issue of your return flight, if it leaves too early in the day, you have to leave the afternoon before, spend another night in Santo Domingo before going home.
Either you should plan for a longer stay, or fly into POP, or spend your 3 days in Boca Chica or Santo Domingo.

Does suck, however this is just a test trip, mongered all over Asia, now time to try something closer to home. I land at 11 AM, so I am sure I can be on a bus by.
Caribe I believe by 2 PM which should get me to Sousa by about 6 PM, I will have a nap on the bus, so I will be ready to go Friday night!
As far as my return flight, it is at 6 PM, so I can hang out in Sousa till at least noon. Anybody have info on the Taxi ride to the bus station in SD as well.
As the bus ride from the station in Sousa to the Hotels? Would love to have a wingman my first trip, again if anybody will be in town end of May, I got the.

Thanks everybody for the advice, unfortunately I work for the airline and I will be flying in free to SD. This is why I will have to take the bus to Sousa, yes it.
Does suck, however this is just a test trip, mongered all over Asia, now time to try something closer to home. I land at 11 AM, so I am sure I can be on a bus by.
Caribe I believe by 2 PM which should get me to Sousa by about 6 PM, I will have a nap on the bus, so I will be ready to go Friday night!
As far as my return flight, it is at 6 PM, so I can hang out in Sousa till at least noon. Anybody have info on the Taxi ride to the bus station in SD as well.
As the bus ride from the station in Sousa to the Hotels?The rate for the taxi to Santo Domingo is a fixed rate, I believe it is currently $30, but be sure to confirm the rate with the driver before you get in. I'm not sure about the rate from the Caribe station to Sosua hotels, but shouldn't be more than 300 pesos.
Save yourself some time and buy your tourist card online. When I arrived I was leaving the airport within 10 minutes of exiting the plane, and I had to wait on baggage claim.
I believe the Caribe bus takes over 5 hours to reach Sosua. Metro takes 4 1/2 hours and makes a lot less stops. If you leave Sosua at noon to make a 6 PM flight, there's a fair chance you will miss your flight. Sosua is mostly dead until early evening, so staying the few extra hours doesn't gain you anything.
Bring a jacket for the bus ride.

The buses are less then 10 dollars and are quite comfortable. Driving in the DR is not very care free, I will be in country and will use the buses between cities.

In looking at the costs of taxi from Airport to downtown SD, then the long Bus ride, then another taxi on my return, looks like I will be renting a car, yeah it might be a pain to drive down there, hell I have driven in Manhatten a couple times, can't be much worst. Have you found a place to stay yet? My first trip there, not a big heavy hitter, however have been around Asia a few times and tired of the long flight!

Not sure were to stay yet, maybe a couple of days in Casona Dorada, Casa Cayena in Sosua and my final days in non guest friendly remodeled Hotel Jaragua.I booked my first night in Malecon Hilton for $84 with taxes included thanks to Gustazos which is the Caribbean version of Groupon. Sunday, it is time for heading north to Sosua. Wilfried already confirmed me for 3 nights at Casa Cayena, $65 per night with breakfast and dinner included. Back to Santo Domingo my reservation was confirmed via their website for two nights in Hostal San Francisco de Asis, $45 per night. It is the first time they answered an email to me via their website. Last two nights I plan to be at Jaragua hotel, where it all began for me 17 years ago. It recently reopened and although the basic room rate has increased near 50% compared to the price a year ago I got a deal of $99.00 taxes included via Marriot Rewards.
For the large non guest friendly hotels I booked a room for two. My plan is to spend the first night with a 39 yr. Old medicine doctor who has the body of a top rated stripper. She loves to dress sexy at all times. I have two girls confirmed for Sosua, they live in Puerto Plata. One of them has only had girlfriends, never a boyfriend. Back to Santo Domingo I have a couple of girls in lineup: a lawyer that lives in LOS Millones and a visit to Casa Australia, Pink Lounge and Slip on me plus any other girl I can meet during my stay.

I will be in Santo Domingo from August 13th through 25th, so I have 13 days of fun awaiting me. It will be my 2nd time, but this time I will have my own apartment. Not sure where I am going. I m leaning toward SD but Sosua is always in play. It will be a short stay. If I do SD I will be hooking up with chicas I know. There is not a lot to do during the week in SD. Eating out, the mall and may be Boca chica. Sosua is always a good time but the GFE that I love is hard to come by. One month way and very excited.

Besides having fun with ladies I want to go to a baseball game, there is one on October 17 and visit San Francisco de Asis ruins for their Sunday night live show.

My next trip is on next month to Santo Domingo. This time I travel with a brother and a nephew. We are going to spend the first 3 nights at Riazor, 3 night in a Bavaro all inclusive and back to Santo Domingo for the last 3 nights. I have set dates with a lawyer I met last summer, with a bi college girl I met last October and a medicine doctor I met a few years ago. This doctor lady has visited me while in Puerto Rico a couple of times. The bi girl has a new girlfriend and we are going to enjoy a night together. In Bavaro were are going to be with other relatives but my brother's wife is going to introduce with with a lady I told her is pretty and I want to meet. She is going to be in the all inclusive with us. Off course I have Waleska ready to send me one the girls from her harem while I am in the capital.
