Puerto Rico was devastated, it looked like a war field. Metro area looks better but most of the country is without electric power. Over a hundred thousand people lost their jobs and the worst is yet to come. Over 250 k lose their homes. I am on the lucky side, no home or property damage and has been working since a couple of days after hurricane. I am going to buy a lot of the batteries here in Santo Domingo for my battery fan, hehehe.

My next visit to Santo Domingo is a short trip August 31 to September 3. Hotel Palacio Zona Colonial, I got an Expedia deal for net $52.00 per night after redemption of some Expedia points. Palacio is a nice boutique hotel which is multiple guest friendly. It has a small but nice pool area and just steps from Supermercado Nacional and El Conde.
Planning my trip from 12/17 to 12/24.
Need to establish plan of action. Do not know how things would go down around Christmas time.
I am making my first trip to the DR; SD only, staying at Barcelo. Any advice and / or companionship in mongering would be much appreciated. More familiar with Brazilian termas / boates.

Tickets have no change fees nor do I have to pay for fare price difference if I have to cancel and rebook to SD. Dates are flexible. If I were you I would stay that night in, let's say, Boca Chica and next day take the bus to Sosua.
Santo Domingo to Sosua is a long drive and you'll have to pay good money for that.

Santo domingo can be a good time if you speak little Spanish. If not give me a pm. I can give you some layup moves.

If you check the map, you will find it is just a stone's throw from the airport, an uber may cost $5 dollars. Hotel in Boca Chica may cost $40 bucks, perhaps less in these times. As they say you can lead a horse to water. It makes no sence to call a cab for a four hour ride at nght. You will need a room when you get to Sosua as well. Take your time and enjoy the ride. The girls will be there and much fun can be had in Santo Domingo. The Boca Chica option is an excellent suggestion. At the end of the day it is your time and money.

I have not been to Boca Chica in a long time, and so if you have frequented the place lately, you could very well be right.BC can be disappointing if you're coming from the north coast or there by yourself for the first time. Most people go directly to the strip for action. That jungle is well known for the wolves (touts) hyenas (pro SW) and wild dogs (Haitians) that infest the area. They can either help you or try to eat you depending on how you deal with them.
Many people go there because that's all they know. It's also easy to navigate. One side there's a beach with restaurants during the day and at night the strip comes alive with a few small restaurants and bars open. It takes about five minutes to walk through the whole scene. From one end of the strip to the other.
Most of the guys who have Nice chicas in their presents did not meet the chica off the strip. However they will bring the chicas to the strip because of the ambience. Which says a lot about the chica you're with.
There are a few independent chicas (Mostly Haitian and hard-core Dominicanas) walking the strip looking for available tourists.
It could be a little frustrating if you have a particular taste or type of chica in mind.
In order to make the most out of BC you have to adapt quickly. Ex-pats, season vets, well prepared newbies, as well as Lucky Gringos learn to adjust to the Scenery to get the most out of their vacation.
Utilizing the Casas, Beach area, supermarkets, and small boroughs you soon seeing there's a smorgasbord of opportunity of available p4 p.
If you only stand in only one waterhole you're only waiting for scraps from the other animal kills. The more you stand around looking hungry, to more you interest the attention of the wolf, hyena, wild dogs and others . (Las hienas tiene que comer) The hyenas have to eat. And they know we are no Lions.

BC can be disappointing if you're coming from the north coast or there by yourself for the first time. I believe you are "the" Boca Chica veteran par excellence and so thanks, for chiming in. I loved the word used "smorgasbord".
I have not been to BC in the last five years, perhaps longer. It was easy, with the main street and the park. The Italian restaurants were of very good quality and at night they would block motor traffic so it was kind of a European dining experience, on the main street. I actually did my pickings in the town close by, whose name eludes me now. Of course, one has to avoid the various desperados on main street: hazards of the game. Thanks to the internet, now they come directly to my place having been vetted.
Having said that, the only time I was pick pocketed was in BC, day time too! I had very little money in my back pocket and two girls did the trick, one from front and the other from the back. Old trick and I discovered it when I went to pay for my restaurant. I thought I knew all about those but when the dick gets in the way of lucid thinking this is what happens. I brought in the cops but by then the birds had flown.
Personally, my "advice" was for one person and for one night. I do think SD is far and complicated, especially at night for a new arrival after a long flight. So my only logic was the proximity and the relative ease on Main Street in Boca Chica.

So my only logic was the proximity and the relative ease on Main Street in Boca Chica.Indeed that's why I chimed in. I agree with your advice. Especially if you're coming in after 5 o'clock. Boca Chica is approximately 12 to 15 minutes away from the airport depending on traffic. Once you get to your hotel everything is basically within walking distance or a moto Concho 50 peso ride is on every corner.
If you arrive late you can go to your motel, walk outside and ask a motor scooter to take you to Paco drinks #1. That Casa slows down about 1 o'clock in the morning. Take you about 3000 to 4000 pesos (which is a gringo tax) and pick you a chica for a few hours to start your vacation before you head out to the Su the next day. Or spend about 4000 to 5000 pesos (gringo tax) and have the chica with you until the next day Before you leave. She would love to get away to go out and be in your company for a day. Don't bother with the SW in Boca Chica you have plenty of time for them in the Su.
Santo Domingo on the other hand, will take you about 30 to 45 minutes to get to your hotel from the airport. That's if traffic is normal. There may be no action near your hotel depending on your location. As big as the city is There is no major mongering spot for tourists. Most of the Casas in the capital are either overpriced and / or overrated.
Sub's shokka option would be the better choice for a short time in the capital.
If you are in DR I welcome your thoughts related to Covid; especially Punta Cana.

Thanks in advance for any advice.My two cents: If your flight is late (that is night), it is a lot easier, faster and cheaper to spend the night in Boca Chica and catch the bus the next morning. This obviously does not apply if you are getting there during daytime but pay attention to the bus schedule (check the websites for that) - Caribe Tours and Metro Bus.
For your return, if you are already satiated after POP / SOS, Boca Chica might be good as it is essentially a stone's throw from the airport (and there are women there too!) but if you are still hungry and want to try out the capital, stay in one of many hotels in the Zona Colonial. If you read up the right forum, you will find names of hotels too and all hotels are good with guests with an ID.

I'll be coming to Santo Domingo international hotel and my schedule is wide open. I have not booked any hotels as of yet. Was curious if you guys could help me out with girl friendly hotels in Santo Domingo and / or Chicka Boca. Any other advice on Mongering and success with the ladies as welcome. Also, was curious on where is the best place to do currency exchange? Thanks in advance salud.

I stay in airbnbs and use uber to get around. Girls are not easy to find for new guys. You have your work cut out for you, There are some Casas (ho Houses) but the prices for the decent ones are high and the low cost ones are some what nasty for my taste. You need to do some serious reading to understand the does and don'ts of Santo Domingo. There is a definite learning curve. Good Luck.

I was able to snag a cheap flight to POP before the airline miles doubled. I will be at Black Beards starting on the Sunday the 22nd for three nights then Heading over to Sosua on the 25th (Wed) for four nights.

I'm an easy-going middle-aged fit, lifelong world traveler and monger, but I've never been to the Dominican Republic. I live on the east coast and I'm planning a trip here within the next month. Just want to go down there for four or five days and was thinking to go to Blackbeards for my first trip. Wouldn't mind having a wingman for the trip, we do our own thing, but maybe get some drinks, and hang out once in a while, and share some more stories and contacts and so forth. Wouldn't mind setting up a wild group play evening where we invite 3-4 girls and go at them. LOL.
