Still a while away, but I've just confirmed my travel plans for the next few months ...
I'll be in Moscow for work June 27-30, and I'm planning on taking an extra week (before or after these dates) for party time. Also heading to St. Pete and a small town just outside (Petrosovodzk) during the non-work days to catch up with a pal who just moved there.
Anyone planning on being around at that time? Maybe catch up for a quick tour of the Moscow highlights.

the military isn't generally considered too romantic of an occupation in russia though, as the russian military has been beset by scandals regarding the hazing, even to the point of brutal beating, murder or [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123), of their own troops by their own troops. particularly young soldiers are brutalized by older soldiers. besides that, russian soldiers, even officers, make very very little money. in a money-based society like russia, which is even more money-obsessed than america in many ways, occupation is a key factor in your status and level of relative attractiveness.
whenever i told girls i used to be in the army, they mostly reacted with "oh, i am so sorry..." rather than the "gee, that's so cool!" i was hoping for...
still, girls do love a guy in uniform, and after telling a few "war stories" they generally reacted with keen interest and respect. or at least they pretended to.. and that was good enough for me... :)

Having been married until recently I have never been yet to Eastern Europe. I will write first hand experiences when I will return from these countries. I am looking for reliable informations and saw your posts here and on other forums. You wrote many informations about Belarus, Bosnia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Turkey.
But judging by your caracteristic frenglish language and notation; I think you have only been to Russia (2 times), Ukraine (2 times), Poland (1 time) and Czech Republic (1 time). Only 6 real experiences out of 221 reports. Am I wrong ?
I have also been in the french navy for one year for my military service. I have known guys working in the navy as cook, hairdresser, office worker and who have never been on a military boat. But outside at the local bar they were pretenting they just came out of a 3 months mission in Foch aircraft carrier. They wanted to impress girls but it was part of the game.

Dear Slutlover, there was no any provocation in my question about the club. To tell you the truth I hoped for a more detailed answer. Great place and good atmosphere is not information, it's your attitude. But what sort of place is it: expensive or cheap, croudy or empty, quiet or noisy, what style of music they play, what sort of people go there - locals or expats, young or old, in jeans or in suits, are there girls in this club - pro or non-pro, students or office-stuff? If there are pros - how much do they charge and so on. Is entrance free or yo must pay to enter? How much is the entrance fee? Is there a restaurant there? What food do they cook? Did you try any? Are portions large or small? I never was there and I’m not a night-life expert, but sometimes my clients ask me where to go, so it would be nice if I could help them a bit.
As for your education there’s nothing about envy from my side. I have a very good education myself, as well as almost all of my friends and everybody in my family. In Russia education is a part of our upbringing, it’s taken for granted, because everybody has it. At your age many people in this country already have doctor’s degree in science, and everybody keeps quiet. We all know that University diploma as a paper doesn’t quarantee any professional skills or personal qualities, and that the fact of studies doesn’t mean that you really learned something. We consider experience and personal impression more important than University degree. It’s more important here who you are and what you do than what papers you have. So when someone screams about diploma or connections without asking, most of Russians will just think that this person has bad manners and tries to look more important than he really is. May be in your country it’s opposite, then we deal with misunderstanding because of cultural difference. I don’t have anything personal against you, I never met you, may be you are a brilliant guy, who knows. But I see a huge contradiction between your nick on this forum, which doesn’t sound very intelligent (or “civilized” if you prefer this word) and your pride of being educated. This contradiction provoked my how you call it “aggression”.

Prices are reasonable (Long Island 0.5l [sic] 230 RUR, Staryi Mel'nik 0.5l 90 RUR). Real McCoy's (Nastoyashchii MakKoi) is crowded (and noisy) on Thursday-Saturday and has both locals and expats, of various ages but mostly around 25-30 at a guess. It attracts both students and people that work (more of the second category, though), and face control is liberal although I have heard that they may have a policy of not admitting expat women (in fact, a friend of mine tried to go there with 3 Spanish girls and was denied). I have never noticed any pro girls at McCoy's. The food is good, and as the Exile writes, a 210 RUR decent-sized spaghetti carbonara at 5 am is a good deal in Moscow. I do not remember the music very well except that after 12, it was very danceable and to my taste, which of course may not be a very useful statement to you.
Now for my nick: I do not think that the question of whether or not someone likes sluts, i.e. promiscuous and therefore experienced girls who nevertheless do not engage in sex for direct monetary rewards, is highly correlated to his level of intelligence. In fact, I think that taste and intelligence are separate matters altogether, and while some, not including me, may argue that it was tasteless of Bill Clinton to have his dick sucked by an average-looking intern right in the Oval Office, few would question his intelligence merely based on his sexual preferences (whether it was stupid to get caught is, again, another question).
For good or worse, I believe that in Britain, more so than in Russia, degrees from certain universities imply a certain type of socialisation which may or may not be to the taste of the observer. Some may hate Oxbridge guys, some may like them. Generally speaking though, it is a significant characteristic, since the types of people you may encounter in an Oxford college and on the Clapham omnibus differ not only in *average* level of intelligence but also in behaviour (and often, even in accent). I do not wish to sound Russophobic (in fact, I love Russia), but sadly, it is not a secret that places, exams and diplomas at Russian universities (including good ones such as MGU or MGIMO) are for sale or susceptible to blat, much much more so than at Oxford for all that I can tell.
On the other hand, some foreigners are surprised by the pride some Muscovites take in their origin (as opposed to the "priezzhie") since in their countries, place of origin is a secondary characteristic at best and does not to the same extent carry connotations of sophistication or kolkhoz. Also, wealth is displayed much more ostentatiously in Moscow than any other place I know. These are, indeed, cultural differences, although I am sometimes tempted to believe that an Oxford degree can involve more serious work than the work done by some of these New Russians in order to buy their Hummer, Rolex and Rublevka house. We both know that privatisation has gone seriously wrong in this country.
In short, I don't think I have been guilty of excessive flaunting, although of course my description of myself was understandably not meant to shed a bad light on myself. I am not in the "mea culpa, mea maxima culpa" business.

I am not interested in having photos, I prefer to focus on the live experience and not leave too much incriminating evidence! And I always assumed that you would be paying a premium for a girl who was prepared to do it on camera.
Even so, the prices seem to be good, 100 euros for a day for escort, but a little unclear on whether you also have to pay the girl additional for sex. Probably this is expensive by Chelyabinsk standards?

GF: It's hard to say, since I spoke Russian most of the time I was there and didn't really try speaking English. Had the feeling that Sochi wasn't very international in nature so I think you might have a tough time with English.
Much of the population seems to be "Caucasian", specifically Armenian, from their heritage. On a positive note, there seemed to be almost no foreigners there other than me. All the tourists I saw or met were Russian... many of them from Moscow.
I personally liked the city and managed to find a very nice freebie on the first night and kept her for the next two nights. I didn't have time to check out any pro options. I'll probably visit Sochi again in the late summer or fall. The locals told me it's really too hot in the summer... but then again, so are all seaside resorts so that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I thought that I would share my recent experience here about Moscow/Russia. I hope that some members can benefit from it.
I was going to be in Moscow from Sep05-08 for business and thought that night time I could have some Russian style fun. I contacted Rafael to arrange an apartment, airport transfer and some fun for me. I even made arrangements to meet Helena.
I arrived to the Moscow airport on Wed (Sep 05th) and went to the passport control. The immigration officer did not let me to enter Russia. She called up another female officer and she told me that even tough I have proper Russian visa, they were not going to let me in and I had to go back where I came from. BTW, almost everybody working at the airport is female. It is very rare to see a male worker. The reason was that my passport was not in very good condition. Since I travel a lot around the world for business, my passport is worn out little bit. I tried to explain them if my passport was not acceptable, how come I got visa from Russian embassy in my country. Their answer was “They are embassy people and we are immigration people. Their way of business is different than ours”. I even offered some extra income to the immigration officers but it was refused. I waited almost 6 hours at the airport and return to where I came from.
While waiting at the airport, I met some other people in the same situation. One guy has been waiting there for 5 days. He was joking that Russian forget him there.
I have been to many countries (States, China, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Germany and so on) with the same passport but did not have any problems until yesterday.
Anyway, before going to Moscow, please ensure that your passport is in very good condition.

You are definatly not alone in this as I had my usual tatty passport which immigration also didn't like the look of and I was refused entry. Thankfully I was put on the same plane I arrived on and had to endure two days in amsterdam. Not that that was a hardship and in fact probably saved me a few dollars.
Does anyone know what the situation is regarding returning to russia when you have been refused entry once. Are you then blacklisted or can you go again. I have a multiple entry visa which I can transfer to a new passort but I don't see the point if they won't let me in again.
Well good thing I just got a new passport with the visa, so they will not have reason to refuse entry - I am sure if they need to they come up with some lame excuse.....

My passport is in bad shape too, due to extensive travel. They might look at you funny, but I seriously doubt you'd get rejected because of it. If they make a stink say you are an important international businessman and because of your travel your passport gets a bit beat up. Another thing that will help:
In any case, get a black leather cover for your passport.. not only does it really help protect it, but makes you look more like an important BTDT international man of mystery and less like a backpack tourist who carries his raggedy-ass passport in his back pocket.
Oh, and St.Pete in January? Bring a hat and gloves. :)

I have had an extensiion added to my passport but it's in good shape. As long as my visa comes thru how bad is it to get into the country ? I have read some of the stories of being rejected at the immigration. Not cool.

If the visa is OK they will not care they have your pic on their system. But when back, in Germany, they where looking strange at my passport... saw I was coming from Russia and asked if I had another ID... of course I said and opened the wallet: ID, Driving Licence and they saw also ticket and credit cards in my name and all was solved in 30 seconds.
I think they take more care in EU because they do not have a photographic database as Russians have.

I've been once firmly hassled by three moldovian cops who pretented that my passport was false, and even suggested that I was a women trafficker :).
After one hour of sterile discussions and semi-jokes I finally gave them the 30€ (50 leis) bribe they expected. We then splitted off good friends.
If I had to travel in Russia I'd make a new one to avoid any polemic with the militzia.

If you are at all nervous about entering Russia, being met by a friendly face when you get off the plane can reduce the anxiety. If it's worth $155 to you for a hassle free entry, you might want to try the VIP service.

Htm In Pulkovo 2, as soon as you walk up the ramp from the plane, there will be a nice tight young thing (who speaks English) holding a board with your name on it. You give her your documents and your baggage claim and she leads you to the lounge where you can get a drink and relax. During this time, they visit with Immigration (your arrival is pre-cleared so they are expecting you). When everything has been cleared, she comes back with a porter who now has your luggage and the the three of you walk to the head of the line and sail thru immigration / customs in about two seconds. The immigration official (who has already inspected your docs) just takes a quick glance to make sure you are the same person pictured in the passport.
Some may consider it a needless luxury, but if you are stressed about it, $155 is perhaps worth it.
BTW. I have been to Russia (MOSCOW and SPB) 8 times now and have never had any trouble what-so-ever, and my passport is ragged as shit. In fact, if your passport is clean as a whistle, you are more suspicious that if it's well used. If you are granted a business Visa, then you are in good shape. The dodgey ones are those who are "staying with friends on holiday" and don't know how long they are staying. Those are the ones that the immigration officials are watching for.

Yeah it is available, but frankly I don't see the point... unless as you say a planeload from some 2nd/3rd world nation has just arrived at the same time or in front of you. My last trips (knock on wood) I haven't waited longer than 10 minutes at passport control.

I will be coming to Russia for a business trip in a few weeks. This is my second visit only to this country after a trip last year to Ekaterinburg (didn't do very well there) and Moscow which turned out a bit better. I felt that my complete ignorance of Russian at the time was a real hinder, especially in Ekat. So I have decided to learn the language and although I can't strike a real conversation yet, I hope the few things I've learned will help.
Anyway I will stay 1 1/2 day in St Petersburg (just the night of the 13th, so salons look like the best option - I RTTFed & found plenty of info in here, thank you guys), 2 nights in Moscow (14th & 15th) and 2 nights in Rostov (16th & 17th).
Anyone for a glass on 14th or 15th in Moscow ? I am in the wine business (premium stuff) so drinks on me obviously and that's good stuff !
I'll try to escape in Rostov and discover what's available but my russian partner might want to take care of me (which might be OK as he seems to be into freebies - not sure about p4p though). Any tips on Rostov are welcome.

After 17 years, I'm finally unemployed and actually have my first chance to really put in some serious time before I get another serious job offer.
My landlady normally rents her flat to me for $60 per day, normally for approximately 13 to 16 days. Its 3 blocks from the heart of a second level,
(not Moscow or St. Pitr) +1 million population city, on a quiet side street. Its a good size flat, with its own hot water, spa tub in the bathroom, full kitchen, and an extra sitting room that I don't even use, on the 5th floor. I get this price, because I rent from her every year for many years.
I asked her about renting for 2 or 3 months, and she is asking me what price?
I know all flats are booked now in Kiev, and the cheapest is $90 per day, with NO discount whether you want 2 days or 2 months. Well, maybe 10%. But this is not Kiev, so I can't figure out how much I should offer her.
Should I expect her to give me 10%, or 20%, or 25%, or more? She lives in the US, and always has to rent to others through an agent who gets his comission, but from me, I just mail her my check. I could even tell her, that I want it for 3 months, to get a bigger discount, and pay her a month at a time, and then come back after 2 months?
At $50 per day, that's $1500 a month, which just seems ridiculous, but maybe not! I don't know.

I'm sure the hotel will let in your own vyezd girl, but she will need to show her passport at the front desk and have you meet her downstairs. She'll know the drill better than you, so don't worry.
As for the internet sites, sorry, but RTFF. There is a ton of info on this already.
Tip: the Korean restaurant in the hotel rocks. My favorite in Moscow.

Not all hotels choose to carry their own stables, particularly some that are Western franchises.
That said, why are you afraid to go out by yourself? Moscow is quite a safe city, and even with zero Russian skills, you can get around easily. Its called the provinces! Where the lazy and unadventurous types fear to tread, but where those few with enough balls, stamina, and reckless abandon cash in on the jackpot of manda that is simply overflowing with quality and mass quantities of killer gushy stuff.
I have never seen so much, its mind boggling.
And as usual, I wasted way too much time, effort, and resources running down a dream, instead of just bulldozing my way through the chaff, to get to the kernals of tasty treats that are pretty much everywhere.
And as my few days now remaining begin to blur into the meat grinder of ever increasing pace of time, I am watching my best ever chances slipping away.
Did I do my share of damage, well certainly, and in the process, put a dozen or so institute cuties through the next 2 years of tuition and rent, but I sure blew some great shots at stardom.
