Has anyone used the Visa Service like Dragon D has mentioned ? (Not specifically his, but any of the ones in Hong Kong or whatever which supposedly can get business visa's or whatnot for long-term stay in China) I want to go to China and hunt for a job, but it is hard as hell if I have the 30 day tourist visa and then get booted! It would feel much more comfortable if I could get 3-4 months minimum, just move in get settled, and THEN worry about job hunt. So anyone who's had experience: please advise me. I'm interested in flying into Hong Kong and getting any sort of visa that will let me stay long-term on the mainland.

PS: I deal in Shanghai in general. But have had a couple of requests for fully guided China tours which I can also handdle. I speak three dialects of Chinese and English so i'm a fairly good guide. Not as cute and nice to have around as a 19 yr old Uni student, but can get you better deals than they can.

If you are job hunting around Shenzhen or Guangzhou area then Visa won't be a big problem. When your visa is up all you have to do is to go across to Hong Kong, get a Visa renew and then just come right back to Shenzhen. You can try to get a longer Visa for China by writting on your application that you want to travel and see all of China. They will probably give you a 60 days Visa with either a 2 entry or a mult-entry. At least that was how we got a 2 entry with a 60 days Visa.

I was able to get a 6 month F-visa (multiple entry visa) through a visa service. I did not even need to get a letter from a China company "vouching" for me as a business client. However this was originally done from the US.
I will try to get this visa renewed from a China visa service in the next few weeks and will let people know the results.
I believe many of the visa services often have connections at the local consulate and are able to get the multiple entry visas fairly easily.
However as a recent post just mentioned, it is generally no problem to go back and forth from HK getting tourist visa renewals.

As one post claims, you can get the visas outside of China with little problem. In China though if you go to renew then the new rules that started in Feb apply and it is hard to not leave the country. Also many HK visa services offer 6 months but you must leave every 30 days so be careful if you are doing this yourself. My services are mainly in Shanghai and cater to clients who want a no hassel process. If you are willing to or have the time to spend dealing with this headache, by all means go ahead.

Check my post in the HK Maps section for this. Ther is a phone number and website where you can always call to ask the latest regulations. Last week it was still possible to get a multiple under certain conditions. All mentioned there.

I had no problem in March getting a 2 year multiple entry visa. I did it in the US though, not Hong Kong. Maybe there is a difference in Hong Kong itself.

I just got my one year multiple entry visa for China in the US. i had no problem in obtaining it. No questions ask. i just checked the box for the one year multiple entry visa on the application.

To clarify this discussion, I think the primary issue is whether one can get the multiple entry visas from China or HK as opposed to having to apply in the jurisidiction of residency.
I think it is fairly simple and straightforward to get multiple-entry visas in US or Europe. I have done it myself with no problems.
My multiple entry visa is going to expire in the 3rd week of April and I was going to try and renew from China or HK, but I have recently been advised that it might not be so simple.
To avoid the hassle of last minute contingency plans I will likely renew outside of China/HK.
If you are not an US citizien, a multiple in HK is no issue at all. If you have one in yor passport already it should be no issue either. Just call shoestring travels or CITS on Peking Rd. and ask them.

Picked it up this afternoon at 1:15pm. No problem using U.S. passport as long as there's at least one previous multiple-entry visa, or two business visas ("L" type). Price for U.S. passports is HK$2500 for same day service; most other countries, as stated by one of the gals in the office is HK$1500.
For the most other countries part, you can get that at Japan travel much cheaper(same day 950) . But Japan Travel doesn't handle US passports.

I would say it is not a big deal to get someone out of China.
Let her apply for a passport and get the appropriate visas. To my experience, the Thai Consulate e.g. requires a 10000 RMB fixed deposit for 6 months to ensure she returns back. To my knowledge the Chinese let everyone go (unless they are involved in the secret service or similar) as long as they can prove they are welcome at the place they want ot go to (visa) and as long as their employer agrees (if in employment).
My knowledge might be outdated though. Any correction welcome.

Have to agree with Johnnykon666. I can do it for less without you going to HK. But for some people that travel around as a sales rep then it is worth it. All depends on the individual situation.

If you are going on a business visa you can get 2 year multiple entry visa for China. It will be easier if already got a 1 year multiple entry before. For two year visa you have to leave the passport at the consulate for a week. For one year multiple entry visa you get it the same day.
For business visa you do need an invitation from a Chinese company or Hong Kong company which has a satellite office in China.
You do not need invitations for business visa if you get them in HK. US passport holders need a multiple entry visa or 2 single/double entry F visa in their passport. Other nationalities that don't have reastrictions just need one previous entry into China to get a multiple buiness visa. If in doubt just call Japan travel if not US citizien or Shoestring if US citizien. See my posts in the HK maps section fopr details.

About what happened that night, well, it was not one night, it was every night. I was staying at the 4 seasons hotel and called D up every night. I tried 5 different girls. There's one that he calls the "Teacher" because she is the one that trains all the new girls. She is not the best looking of the bunch (though not bad looking at all) but she can move something serious. If you want to go with a very experienced girl who knows how to move her body, go with her. The other two nights I tried very new girls, who were much cuter but not nearly as good. Has anyone used the Visa Service like Dragon D has mentioned ? (Not specifically his, but any of the ones in Hong Kong or whatever which supposedly can get business visa's or whatnot for long-term stay in China) I want to go to China and hunt for a job, but it is hard as hell if I have the 30 day tourist visa and then get booted! It would feel much more comfortable if I could get 3-4 months minimum, just move in get settled, and THEN worry about job hunt. So anyone who's had experience: please advise me. I'm interested in flying into Hong Kong and getting any sort of visa that will let me stay long-term on the mainland.If your from the USA, just obtain one before you leave from one of the agencies on the internet. I got a 3 month single entry "L" Visa before I came over and it cost me $50 USD. You can obtain a visa in HK, but if your an American, there's a different requirement for us as well as a higher price.

Language should not be a big problem. For the BBS, just bring a card for your hotel, then show the mamason your card and point at the girl. She will know what you mean. As for girls coming back to your room, it would not be hard for her to understand a call from a foreigner, telling her time, hotel name and room number. Don't worry too much because all the girls know what you want. They are not there to talk with you.

As you may know, I and others on this forum are in favor of free sharing of information to help other mongers visiting China. I normally get a huge welcome and all the help I need from ISG members whenever I travel. Case in point is my visit to Shanghai last week when fellow members went out of their way to show me around for free, every night.
Regarding the language issue, I am certain one of the Shanghai based members would help you for free, as well, either in person or by providing translation help over the phone if you PM them in advance of your arrival. And, as Csun says, body language can be used and understood. I'm sure you are not the first laowai to visit a BBS in the Village.
Having said all that, you are not the first to praise DragonD on a job well done. Jackson has ruled and allows him to pimp on the board. I have my own opinions on the subject but have agreed that I will not express them any further.

I will take you up next time I am in Shanghai. THAT SAID, I PM'ed several people when I was in Shanghai and nobody responded to me other than Dragon D, who responded immediately and I was grateful for it, and Asian Gambler, who must've been busy and responded several days later. Nobody else responded. Had I received help, I might've tried a different route but I was pleased with my stay and felt D deserved credit. Regardless of what is being presented by whom, there is a process that is involved. With respect to the Love Hotel concept and the presentation of the opportunity here, the other side of that issue is that I have absolutely no idea of the demographics or the metrics of this particular site and how those metrics relate to those demographics. So from that point of view, the presentation of that opportunity is designed to trigger a response from a potentially qualified party.
No one expects solely on the basis of a post to say, "gee that sounds great, here is my $ 100,000.00 where do I send it"? That is not how the process works.

OK, so the majority consensus is, Chopsuey has a bad business sense, bad idea or has a scam. Of course, sometimes the majority is wrong and he will someday make a lot of money. Just got back from a trip to Taiwan. The love hotel/motel business in Taiwan is booming! My friend, who runs a cchain in taiwan, had a discussion with me. Their main concern is the about the right of the customers. In taiwan, the police can not enter the motel/hotel rooms without search warrant. Unlike in China, police may enter any hotel rooms without search warrant. He has presented me with this scenario:
Let's say he opened a extravagant love hotel (of course taking care of the local gavernment's GUANXI). The business begin to boom. Some local chinese guy (with better connection w/government) sees that it's a winnner, he in turns open a same style place. The local guy ask the local LE to harass my friend's place in other to compete for business... What then?

i already wanted to do it in 1996 when i moved to china, but at that time they only offered it in chinese and i couldn't speak, read and write this language and they didn't allow any interpreter. (it took me 5 years to read and write. a lot of sleepless nights.)
anyways, 2 months ago a friend of mine did the same test and it looked like that these were still the same questions according to what he explained to me.
my friends at the psb told me that this varies from city to city what kind of tests will be done.
guangzhou still seems to be the easiest option.

For my first license, I paid 2,600 RMB to a friend in GZ and did not have to take any test. This was a Hainan license. A police friend looked at it one time and told me that it may be a fake though. Anyway, I kept it until it expired without incident.
For my second license, I went to a company across the street from the Holiday Inn on HuangShi Lu in Guangzhou. I paid 1,600 RMB and only had to take the written test in English. The company provided a car with a driver and one staff to bring me to the place. They gave me all the answers which I just brought with me and copied over. One of the test monitors even asked me if I needed any help. The whole thing only took a couple of hours. PM me if you want the GZ company details.
There is also one company offering drivers license service at the Huanggang border in Shenzhen. They wanted 2,500 if I remember correctly. If you turn right after the immigration check, you can find the counter all the way at the end before the restrooms. They tried to tell me why theirs was better than mine, but I could not really understand the reasoning.
If you want to go through the hassle, you can do it on the cheap. I think the whole thing costs less than 100 RMB if you go there, wait in lines, take the written test, stay over, take the driving test, etc. It was just not worth the trouble to me for 1,600 RMB.

AGYour license is issued by a PSB in some obscure province nearby.Shanghai gets served by Anhui Guangdong usually gets issued Hunan or Jiangxi.The service fee pays for you supposedly to have taken and passed the exam there.It is a good source of extra income for junior and medium level people.

Are you trying to share your knowledge with the board on how to get a Chinese driving licence or telling the board that how smart you are to get your Chinese licence for RMB 1800 while others are paying a few extra thousands RMB.
For the same legal Chinese licence, I only spent RMB 200 (RM 40 for the photographs to be used for the tests, RMB 60 for the medical tests and RMB 100 for the 100 questions theory test) while you have to spend RMB 1800. I believe you are going to tell me that you have to pay/bribe someone to provide you the answers to the 100 questions theory test which are in Chinese.
I don't understand Chinese too but do you know that the 100 questions test is also available in English. When you are registering for the test, inform the counter that you want to take the test in English. Tell them that you will take the test among the last few candidates, also requests for a copy of the questions in English to go through. If you are an experienced driver, you need less than an hour to digest those questions.
I also had my test in Year 2005.

There, they proceeded to tell us what we could do and what we couldn't. Typical examples were not to discuss sensitive issues such as Taiwan/Tibet/Falun Gong etc. with Chinese colleagues or locals.
Most interesting though, the inspector told us that mixing with and forming relationships with the local women would be highly frowned upon and could get us into trouble(?).

There are commodities and there are commodities. Compared to the memory used in CF or SD, the memory contained in DD2 is something like 200-300X faster. This isn't NAND flash stuff. $50 for 1G of PC-5300 is not bad price at all.

IMHO.Well, all NAND flash in made in one of two countries, Japan and Korea. So the "brand name" is exactly just that, good marketing. There are a few things which I don't completely understand, how the "binning" works. It's possible that the "guaranteed" quality products are parts from the higher quality bin.
The highest price for flash in Wanchai computer center (if I remember correctly - was there last weekend) is about HKD350 for the 2GB part and HKD180 or so for the 1GB part (USD45 and USD23 respectively) so best case is that the 1GB product for USD49.95 from frys is about 2x the price here in Asia.

I kept my eyes on Best Buys, CompUSA and Circuit City (U.S. chain stores) circulars and they have never been as cheap as $50.00 US for 1 gig. Last week, Best Buy had the same Kingston memory for $79.95 plus local sales tax. And this was after an instant rebate of $25 (?). Even some of the online stores are not offering $50.00 a gig.
BTW, CF and SD flash memory are now as cheap as $9.00 US for 1 gig with rebate.

I had placed my order on Friday night and had actually called Saturday afternoon about the order status. The rep told me that my order was on backorder and a new memory shipment would not come in until April 24. But they had already gotten a shipment the previous week and told me that my order was most likely to be shipped out when the new order arrived on April 24.
Then on Monday afternoon, I received a shipping e-mail notice, stating that my memory had been shipped. Apparently she was wrong and my shipment went out on Monday afternoon.

BillSorry if I misunderstood, just automatically assumed that Mr Lee was referring to Flash (my mistake). CF or SD can also be used for laptops. Problem with buying DDR2 for laptops, is that it's not that easy to install (as opposed to flash which you just plug-n-play). Haven't shopped for DDR2 memory for laptops in recent history (or ever actually), so don't know what it's selling for.
Thanks AG for the great intro... you pretty much hit it on the nail.. as for who I service, you got that pretty much right too.. one thing I want to mention though and thanks to Albert for mentioning it, is that I am not a rip off. However, Hotels had been issued warning sometimes to tighten their security against any vice activities including Prostition and high penalties will be posed on the owners of the hotel if they are caught. These penaties includes closing down the operations. Therefore, there are times when the security at the hotels would stop your GF if they find you returning with them after 11pm.
Most 5 stars hotels, they requires you to register your "guest" with security if you bring someone back after 11pm. This is mainly for the security of you and not for the prevention of Prostitution.

There are many second hand cell phone shops in most cities in China, the quickest way to to sell it to them. Unless your phone is not in good condition. In that case, they will pay you only a very low price.
