as with any call to arms there are those like myself who cannot resist the opportunity to respond to such a challenge! the global economy looking the way it is, it is no longer a strange thing to see retirees re-enter the workforce (cough. giottotopoulides. cough). and he is right. for every avid writer there are tens that read the constant ballet that is present in these forums.

not so long ago on the edge near the end of the world. the familiar smell of kerosene laden fuel fills the air as i partake in the traditional ceremony that is the cigarette after check in but before boarding. my arms can rest now that my luggage will not be seen by my eyes for another 11 hours or so. this is the time i desperately try to hold on to, to make this moment last longer than any other, the precursor to a journey for which i have planned in my mind for the last 6 months. but this journey is different. i have travel companions. a friend whom i've known for many years, exactly how many years is somewhere around 14-16 years, we debate this topic every time it comes up and it usually results in me giving into his somewhat better judgment. i've never been one to argue, as a matter of fact i hate it, so much so i try my very best to avoid it. it has been a while since i have travelled with people; i hope there will not be arguments.

the southern sky is beautiful to others but not to me. yes it is my home and for the better part of my life it is all i've known, but my home feels elsewhere now. it has been this way for a while. and for the first time in a long time, two people who have never seen this home before will have the pleasure of being introduced to it. i have done all the leg work for the past 6 years, my tastes are particular but hardly refined. when i come to know what i like, i tend to stick with it.

time to fly now, we are leaving on a jet plane, and even though we know exactly when we will be back again, it is not this moment i am looking forward to, actually, it is the furthest idea from my mind. an aging boeing 747 will be the conveyance of choice today. she is showing her age with her interior moulds showing that familiar yellow glue stains around her panels. the once great marsupial that adorns her tail has changed its shape for the 4th time in her 91 year history and she has never seen sorrier times. this will not be a comfortable flight. the plane is full. only 9 hours and 20 minutes to go. full thrust.

landed safely without incident and the race ensues to get through the majestic airport that is suvarnabhumi. i love this airport, if you ask me why the next time you are there inside her doors, look up. my travel companions struggle to keep up with me as i dart through parcels of people who aimlessly and inefficiently make their way through to customs and immigration. first sign of life, the red l. e. d signs above the immigrations officer that say: foreign passport. damn! i picked the wrong queue; i correctly profiled the queue members but made a false assumption about the immigration officer himself. mental note. pick the officer wearing headphones listening to his music or radio station of choice.

bags gotten and through the doors, i hear my friend remark about the waterfall that has encompassed his lower extremities, i am not worried, he will adjust to the heat and humidity. we take a large taxi from the rank and make our way past the billboards that seem to have multiplied since my last trip. it is night time so there will not be much to see, however my travel companions are consumed by the vehicles on the rama roads as we snake our way towards sukhumvit. as many times as i have made this journey the route that we take from the airport never seems to repeat itself. every driver seems to have their flavor. i do not mind. we come the back way down the famous painter's road. i am peering out the driver's side window looking for the elephant tusks. like a beacon in the night they call to me their siren song.

a familiar face greets me as we walk in off the soi. i politely nod as i walk up the alleyway entrance. my friends follow close as if to say don't go too far ahead that we lose you. they don't realize that if they do lose me, where we are going now is where you will find me, at any point in our trip.

the doctor is in. g's voice rattles through reception asking me 'who let you in here? ' i reply 'for a place that has no doors, how will you keep me out? ' g smiles and one arm extends out to welcome, i slap it away and i hug as best i can the tall man. g hates it when i do this. the bestard! mrs. g follows suit and jumps up, and if there is one task for the trip that i must complete successfully it is to catch her and don't let go.

i make introductions hastily with my friends as we finalize the check in procedure. i command my friends forcefully so there is no confusion. 'boys, go to your rooms, change into shorts, i will be by the pool'. they follow the commands with gusto and minutes later we are surrounded by the fairy lights that have haunted my dreams for 6 months.

simply put. i am home.

i order a mixed selection of what would be finger foods from the menu, just before the first singha's arrive. marinated chicken in banana leaf, mexican and greek spring rolls, bacon wrapped prawns / shrimp and the ever so crowd pleaser; fresh spring rolls. we cheers to partaking in the miracle that is human flight, we have nothing but time and the sportsbar to conquer. mrs g. is in the middle of her dinner and she joins us for our snack. beers are flowing and my friends cannot get over the food and ambiance. there is a family with some children on the other side of the restaurant and we keep our festivities to a mild roar. it seems quiet but this won't last for very long.

as i walk to relieve myself i courageously sneak a peek through the sportsbar windows and glass door. i see her. she is there, my heart melts and surely somebody upstairs has decided that for all the turmoil at work i have endured for the last 6 months, we will grant you a reprieve, a resolution to a question that has been plaguing you from the very start. an unknown has become a known. if she was schrödinger's cat, well my friends, i have succumbed to open the box, it's alive and well.

to be continued.

vqfall,

don't miss this one. a new member, his reports will pop up a bit late, and then it disappears somewhere down in the post queue.

But IMHO your recent attempts at reviving the thread is going down like a damp squid.

Think what you used to post up; soulful, interesting, informative snippets and useful How-to instructions especially for those not quite so familiar with LOS. Not all this diatribe and jibing and throwing nonsense insults at each other.

Boring, childish and will certainly just give the impression that the Lodge is primarily for a bunch of frat boys up to frat boy shenanigans.

Too much hanging around the empty swimming pool, just contemplating where has all the tourists gone perhaps?

SEAN. Hey, am really just trying to help out / definitely NOT trying to just stir your ire up. But please feel free to ignore if you think inappropriate.

Got your message, but let us not take things too seriously.

We will have a mix of background information, childish jokes, chit-chat, fun stories and whatever the readers like to read / post. For serious mongering information we have the threads in the Thailand forum, where all the specialists are adding their knowledge. This are the threads that lost the majority of their readers in the past few years, because the best writers were "retired" but the idiots survived.

The "Giotto's Lodge in Bangkok" forum will NOT be too serious, it will allow "Boring, childish" posts and "throwing nonsense insults at each other", within certain limitations. And then stories will pop up. You can find the first newbie story below already.

Livingstone's Lodge shall be a relaxing fun place, where certain background information regarding the "purpose of this forum" is available. If we want to do serious marketing for the hotel we will NOT do that here - for that other websites like Agoda, TripAdvisor, FlyerTalk etc. etc. are available. Here, in this forum - we take things easy.

Though I had expected that Mrs. Merkel had called Mr. Monti in such a critical moment - it obviously did not happen. But please be aware that Germany will not buy any Italian bonds / notes any more in near future :) .

I personally think we should not play Italy any more. Once Italy is to be played / in our group we should retire and travel home.

We obviously cannot deal with this team. Bionicman, say something, but - I hate you very much.

GiottoGo imagine I watched the match in a large plaza surrounded by sausages in their home ground. Good thing the folks were quite international (spotted a few Asian cuties, but hey. You don't feed yourself in the working fields. So had just to dream) so there was less tension. At half time, as some rain drops started to come down I used that to go back in my hotel. Didn't want to be in troubles for the obvious win. Today I will walk in the office with an happy smile (albeit sleeping alone) and be what has to be. Giotto probably is not alone (in not loving Italians) we shall survive. Appointment is in 2 years, Mr G. But first we need to qualify for the world cup.

I have definitely no idea what can be done with Twitter. But I bought this new Samsung Galaxy SIII for my Thai mobile number. And activated 3 G (surprisingly that works here in Bangkok, even though the licensing procedures and regulations are legally not finalized). I downloaded the Twitter app and got started. Up to now I played around a bit.

A strange guy called Giotto_BKK Is running around out there in Bangkok. Whenever he goes somewhere, and it is of interest for the purpose of this forum, he will tweet. I think everybody knows that I enhanced the definition of "purpose of this forum" a bit. It will not exclusively be about girls, beer bars, gogos or massage parlors. But about pubs, restaurants, late night spots, discos, Sukhumvit street bars etc. etc. .

I thought this Giotto_BKK guy will write something like this:

"Just entered Baccara, Soi Cowboy. Plenty of girls (at least 40) , lots of customers, mostly Japanese. My neck hurts, because I watch the girls without underwear through the glass ceiling. Sadly I forgot my telescope - cannot see anything!"

... or ...

"Checked out the new English pub that replaced the Bulls Head in Soi 33/1. Royal Oak. Some people sitting outside, inside empty. Had Chili con Carne, was not impressed! Magners cider (tap). Ok!"

I will give it a try. If I see after a while that some followers are interested in this night tour tweets I will check out how I can connect that to this forum. Right now - let's tweet :):):) !

Talking about ignorance, who just got on to Twitter? And does not even know how to use it?Look, *****,

I at least try to reactivate my brain cells and learn how to work with Twitter. Giotto_BKK. You remember?

Tomorrow there will be another Twitter start-up talking about the stock markets, the financial crisis, Thai politics and Bangkok related issues. I think nobody would ever try to write about those issues in 140 bytes comment length. That's a challenge! Let's try to explain the problems of the world - with a few words! Then even you, *****, might understand something [very unlikely though]. Ahhh, I get it now, Twitter was developed for the French :) !

Will need to think about the name for that on Twitter. Doctor G?

Besides me - what are you doing, *****? I mean - what are you contributing to the society besides useless comments on the ISG and the attempt to spreading BigC to innocent women all over Bangkok :) ?

Hi Guys: I just wanted to thank Guido, Giotto, and the rest of the crew at Livingstones in Bangkok.

I had a fanfuckingtastic time there over the past 4 days. 2 hours off the plane I met Mam in the bar downstairs, who kept me company,

And later acted as my tour guide to this wonderful city. Since this is a p4p based site, I felt obliged to post a sexy picture, but I don't have any of me

With my shorts down, so this one have to do. The next one is of Guido. He looks a little grumpy in this pic, but that just because he doesn't like photos. Guido gave me some great advice about where to go and what to do. These guys will take care of you.

This was my first trip to BKK, but I will definately be coming back, and for damn sure will stay at Livingstones again.

Played some pool with the Frenchman yesterday.

I was surprised - he really plays very well. But the funny part of it is the moment, when he tries difficult shots, and the cue ball is a bit our of reach. Then he has to place his HUGE belly somewhere on the table, without touching the balls. That's a really difficult issue for him :):):) ...

Is Livingstone Lodge something similar to Black Beard Resort in Dominican Republic, where girls sit around the bar and the pool and are available virtually all day long? How many girls are typically around and is it noisy party hotel? Thanks.HNo, this would be a wrong picture. I don't think anything like this is available in whole Asia. Not even in the Penthouse Hotel in Pattaya, this being a clearly mongering hotel.

LL is a quiet place in the heart of BKK, fully GF but very discrete. Lots might happen but it is all behind the doors of the rooms.

You will not get much signs at breakfasts, like you see in some places, with guests with local "nieces"'having breakfast together. Mainly because breakfast is nearly all day long so, so spreaded around, LOL. Still, breakfast has a Thai menu. Indications many Thai (girls) have breakfast there, but you don't see them checking in with the hotel guest when he arrives, so figure out how this happens.

There is a inhouse sports bar, and as any bar of that kind in Thailand, there are hostesses not letting you feeling alone, in case you are. Somebody got to eat those Thai breakfasts, right? It doesn't all come for cheap, maybe this represents a natural selection of the guests.

PS by the way, I think that Black Beard (in Haiti, not in Dominican Republic, being also the island hosting both called Hispaniola) is past history....gone with the wind.

So hostesses of LL sports bar are available to make you company and you can bring yourself company.

How easy is to find p4p company in BKK other then bar girls, I read about, where you pay bar fee? Is LL bar similar type with bar fee?

I like FKKs in Germany and I like relaxed environment where you can make small talk with girls to see if there is some chemistry. I do not like to pick girls based on looks only, I did not like Macau saunas for that reason, you have no interaction with girl except to look into them. How is in Thailand?

Thanks for the reply and clarification.

So hostesses of LL sports bar are available to make you company and you can bring yourself company.

How easy is to find p4p company in BKK other then bar girls, I read about, where you pay bar fee? Is LL bar similar type with bar fee?

I do not like to pick girls based on looks only, I did not like Macau saunas for that reason, you have no interaction with girl except to look into them. How is in Thailand?

HOf course if you find a girl there that suits you, why not? The advantage of taking inhouse girls is that there is no bad surprises in terms of whom you bring in your room. Same is also if you take from known bars, as the girls are known there. I don't want to scare you as it is not the case, but sometime taking a stranger girl, mainly FL's, be her for ST or LT might result in unexpected troubles. Not the rule, mind you, but it happens. If you are a first comer go for the safe route, till you get familiar with the environment and learn how to read through the lines. Lots of FL give good performances in all terms, so rules are not engraved in stone, but available for reading.

Nobody being a GF hotel you can bring in a take away from elsewhere and they will not object. Rooms are always booked for two occupants, and the beds, being thai girls often tiny, can take, well, a good party on. Again, Mind you, Thai girls not over enthusiasts of 3-somes, so even if you take two back home, one might take looooong showers whilst you enjoy the other one, get it? YMMV.

Walk from Soi 33 to Soi 4, it is a good 20-30' walk, don't do it under the hitting sun, and as much as you approach the so called low sukhumvit you will see the scene, venture in the side soil, see the bars, the MP', RTFF to learn about the oilies. Soap massages, spot the FL on the street, enjoy food of any kind at Gulliver and you will not miss some glances at you. Or take after dinner drinks at Bangkok Beat.

I know, pretty much obvious destinations for guys with lot of mileage in BKK, but ideal to plunge in for a newcomer.

Browse one evening in Soi cowboy, one in nana plaza, and their go-go bars and girls, spend time in the terrace bars nearby Nana Plaza and nana parking, and you will learn how things happen. You will also recognise the LB from where you can stay away if that is not your scene (LOL, there are quite some, there must be a demand!).

Bar fines are paid to the bar, as the name suggests, and is a way to reimburse the bar for the girl being away and not working (and not generating drink incomes through the customers they stay with at the table).

Prices vary, some places can be steep, each one its own and it is up to the individual to chose to pay it or abort the night of passion with the girl. FL don't have BF of course, rarely go ST, and are cheaper in general. BF is the same whether you take the girl ST or LT.

I would stay away from the places offering shows as ping pong balls etc. Overexpensive circus act, but each one his own.

Always think first with big head and not with small head.

Make sure you don't wear beer goggles when selecting the girl.

Don't decide to "marry" for the whole period of your stay the first LT girl you meet. She might be a diamond, but you are going to neglect yourself all the discoveries in the following days. And you will come back with just ONE report here, and unaware of the big potential BKK has to offer.

Hope You have some basic guidelines here.

Would there be any chance of an update on the current levels of barfines / ladies' fees at Livingstone's Lodge?

Details were published on the forum once, but a long time ago now.

Bionicman,

Thanks for the great info.

When I get there I will be starving and will need a lot of pops first several days. Then after that few per day is fine. I prefer ST so I plan to hit MPs and Oilies that are well described here. Annie's I heard is a must visit. I never tried GF so it may be fun to try for few days.

What are the prices in BKK these days? How much does it cost bar lady from Livingston Lodge for ST (1-2 hours)? How about from other places and FL?

I plan to spend about 1 week in BKK and 1 week in Phuket for some beach, vacation and fun. I am not sure if Pattaya is worth spending few days at the expense of the other 2 locations. Pattaya looks to me like too much of mongering and only mongering. I am thinking to take a day trip just to see it. What is your opinion, is BKK and Phuket plenty for 2 weeks in Thailand? What else is worth visiting like Phuket to be good vacation destination but that there is plenty of fun available, too?

Bionicman, Thanks for the great infoHI don't think the inhouse ladies are meant for ST, but of course I think you can discuss the matter. I once took one kind of "forcely" ST as she could not stay over 3am and I picked her up after midnight. This was clear at negotiation time.

Then each one his own. This is why it is hard (no pun intended) to suggest one place rather than another one.

Oilies are probably more suitable for draining the plumbings, you might also take in account a couple of BJ bars, for instance.

It is all in ISG, do some homework and you will get the idea of the average prices and fees. And if and when a tip (a real tip) is needed.

I have never been to Pattaya but I share the same opinion: worth for 24hrs meet and greet, unless one is really in a mission.

Hi Giotto,

I just read your detailed massage parlor report.

Unfortunately it was written in 2007.

Are there any updates (that I have not found)?

If not, WHERE do I find any reliable updates to get me ready for my BKK-visit in October?

Thanks,

AlexTravel2,

Sadly no more update after 2007. I am much too old for all that. .

Updates are available in the massage parlor threads in the main Thailand forum. Read the reports from Syzygies and NicFrenchy.

Spot on!

I could write a new version of scientific MP analysis. But I would hardly survive it. My wife reads the forum, and whenever I write something there are one or two local Bangkok expats who love to discuss with her what I wrote. For what reasons ever.

This is how it is, so I am a bit restricted in my options. And I know, that I have to explain the picturesque phrases and writing style of this report soon.

And of course - my beautiful wife is demanding, and I am that old. LOL.

Get back over here, it's too empty! We need some more customers for some more fun!

OldLoad.OldLoad,

Sure thing. Let's talk it through over a few beer at the pool.

As for the mosquitoes - we usually spray twice a months, and provide some organic lemongrass spray for our customers (mosquitoes hate that staff). Still - there are always some left, whatever we do. If you expect them to enjoy you --- you will not be disappointed :) .

Back to the massage parlor report: All guests of the hotel, restaurant and Sports Lounge have of course access to [the rest of] my [remaining] knowledge. Just talk to me, and I will give advice as good as I can.

Everybody knows, that I never mentioned provider names here at the forum, because I know, that most providers described to deliver superior service then disappear very fast. But in a discussion over a beer, to one or the other guest - sometimes names are mentioned :) .

C U soon back at the Lodge!

HHedonian,

Let me get involved here and give you some answers.

I think your strategy is basically right. When you come here, very excited, try the soapies and oilies during the first few days. Those providers are very professional and know what a man needs. Once you are more relaxed you can go for GFE.

Oily and Soapy prices are mentioned in the massage parlor thread[s]. Gogo bar prices are discussed as of THB 1,500.00 - THB 2,500.00 for ST and THB 3,000.00 - THB 4,000.00 LT. Freelancer (lower Sukhumvit) are starting with THB 1,000.00, some even lower for whatever service and time period they want to deliver --- and depending on looks and age.

In Livingstone's the girls prices are business of the girl. We do not get involved into that. It definitely depends on the decision of each single girl. As Indication I would say, that the girls will ask for THB 2,000.00 ST and THB 3,000.00 LT. But there are girls that will ask for more.

I also like your travel plan spending a week in Bangkok and another week in Phuket. Alternatively you could select the beaches of Koh Samui, Krabi, Koh Samet etc. Etc. , but you need to take a provider there, you will not find enough selection (may be in Lamai / Samui).

Due to the fact that I simply don't like Pattaya (a shithole in my POV) I will never recommend to go there.

Hope that helps a bit.

HHi Hedonian,

I understand your dilemma. I've been coming to Thailand about every six months for the last 6 years. I discovered LL about 3 years ago and now make it my home base during each trip. It's become my 'dream' home away from home. I have gotten to know Giotto over the years and he has given me some very useful knowledge each time I visit. He tells it like he sees it but in the end it's up to you and fate. I normally split my time between Pattaya and BKK starting and ending up at LL. Pattaya is a mongering paradise and I wouldn't pass it up if I were you. I make it a point to start out with the MP's during the days, hit the go-goes, cruse the Sois and sample the sports bar at night for the first few days and then do the same thing at the end of my visit.

This last trip in July I had 3 weeks and wanted to see the islands of Ko Samui, Ko PiPi and Phuket. So I spent my first few days at LL, as usual and planning my adventure. I had a number of chats with Giotto and he gave me basically the same advice he is giving you. I tried finding a traveling companion in BKK and even asked one of the LL girls without success I went off to Pattaya for a few days to give it a try and had a great time but again I didn't find anyone I'the like to travel with. So I came back to LL for and couple of days before heading to the Islands. (BTW, I showed up un-announced and it turned out that LL was full but Giotto saved the day by fixing a toilet by himself so I'the have a room) Anyway, to make a long story short, I ended up going to Ko Samui by myself and found a girl the first night that I ended up staying with and took to Krabi and Ko Pipi and ended up bringing back to LL before I send her on her way. I never made it to Phuket but Ko Samui, Krabi and Ko Pipi were fantastic. My experience was that there are plenty of girls in Ko Samui to choose from and I'm sure that is true in Phuket too if you are an experienced mongerler. But one thing you should know is watch out for your heart and your wallet if you travel with a Thai girl and remember to give yourself at least three days 'get your head on straight again'. Hence, remember to give yourself time at the end to sample the MP's and go-goes again and remember it's all really a dream.

Fans of the light wooden walls of the Superior Room area (101 - 108) will be disappointed. The walls are exchanged by stone walls now, and will provide some better sound protection.

All bathrooms are renovated already, Wallpaper is next. And - the swimming pool !

BTW, the noisy part of the renovation lies behind us already, the renovation will be completed until the end of this month.

Stayed at LL for a few nights over the last two weekends. Initially thought G was away on business as The Burgermeister's office by the pool had been vacated but he has moved into the office by reception as Auntie has moved on to run a restaurant in Patpong. There has been a turn over in staff but the best ones are still there.

As G says there are renovations going on, pretty major as well, but I didn't hear anything when I was there. What G has planned sounds excellent. The pool cleaning was underway on Saturday. You have to admire G's negotiating skills when he has the guests grafting in 30deg heat scrubbing the tiles of his pool. Luckily I avoided this but watching reminded me of.

Yep, things have changed here a lot, and for the time being I run the show by myself. No more outside office at the swimming pool.

A short overview about the actual changes of the past 3 months:

- The swimming pool was always a discussion point in the internet, people thought it was dirty. It was never dirty, but rust hat turned the blue tiles green. It's fixed now.

- The Superior Rooms were destroyed by a massive termite attack. We found termites in nearly all walls and the ceiling. We took all walls and ceilings out and put Ytong walls in. That fixes also the "noise problem": before you could easily hear what was happening in the room next to you. That's over now.

- Before we had 8 Superior Rooms, from now on we will only have 6 of this room category. 2 are combined for an Executive Double room with an Double Jacuzzi and a lot of space. Of course. A higher rate will be charged.

- All other rooms (Deluxe and Executive) are now upgraded with LED (!) flat-screen TV's and DVD Player with iPad / iPhone docking station (HDMI connection to the TV).

- Many bathrooms got a complete overhaul. More shower curtains were installed around Jacuzzis, Wallpaper work is done on the floors.

Besides the renovation / upgrades of the rooms we are running a massive marketing campaign, are listed in several more internet booking sites already. And it's quite successful. We are nearly fully booked right now until Christmas, and the bookings for January to March are coming in already. Things are clearly turning around.

If somebody wants to book please do it on our website

http://www.livingstoneslodge.com

or via our facebook page

http://www.facebook.com/LivingstonesLodge

The room rates are same on all websites, and if you book via an OTA (online travel agent like Agoda) we lose the commission, and you win nothing.

We still negotiate discounts, but only for guests staying longer than 15 days and for returning customers. Otherwise there is no such thing as discount any more here at Livingstone's Lodge.

If you like the facebook page - appreciated, that helps us a lot. But remember, that is facebook, not the ISG. No mongering activities shall ever be mentioned there.

SWow! A beehive of activities! Congrats on making LL just that much better!

But IMHO, LL's greatest attraction had always been Giotto the man himself. His willingness to be friends with guests, no-nonsense advise and guidance on just about anything LOS / Bangkok and of course the no-nonsense methods to his whole operation; an invaluable port of sense / fairness when one is totally surrounded by the madness, insensibility and havoc of Bangkok.

Just curious how things are that time of year as I am mostly used to tripping in South America (specifically Rio) and know there are certain times of the year the girls travel to Europe, etc.

Cheers!

GSI don't think many thai (working) girls to Europe (if they know where Europe is) in any period of the year. You might have some girls temporarily moving to Singapore for a few week shift at OT, but that is it. During Songkran (April) the presence of WG is slightly reduce as they take the festivities to go and see families back home.

Sonic Bam,

Yep, things have changed here a lot, and for the time being.

Besides the renovation / upgrades of the rooms we are running a massive marketing campaign, are listed in several more internet booking sites already. And it's quite successful. We are nearly fully booked right now until Christmas, and the bookings for January to March are coming in already. Things are clearly turning around.

Or via our facebook page.

http://www.facebook.com/LivingstonesLodge

If you like the facebook page. Appreciated, that helps us a lot. But remember, that is facebook, not the ISG. [b]No mongering activities shall ever be mentioned there.Got a question for you Giotto:

Now that you're running a massive marketing campaign OUTSIDE of ISG, does that mean that the "tone and atmosphere" of the lodge will also change?

I mean, Facebook and Agoda even? Does this mean that you are throwing in the towel and now going to concentrate more on the regular tourist traffic?

Just wondering.

I mean, Facebook and Agoda even?SE Asia Joe,

We are working with AGODA since 2006. Nothing new. Has also no impact on what's going on here besides the normal hotel business.

But to a certain extend you are right. We have to adjust to changes happening right now here in Soi 33. You can get an idea about what's going on if you read Stickman's weekly:

http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/StickmanWeeklyColumn2012/Livingstones-Bangkok.htm

We completely renovated the Lodge, we upgraded all Deluxe and Executive rooms with LED flat screen TV's and DVD players. So we will be prepared for whatever happens here in the future. And even if the mongering activities in Soi 33 die down. We will still know where the action is, and we will still be able to give the necessary advice to ISG members.

Right now. Business as usual, fun in the bar.

You're German, and I think it's fair to say that you're fairly typically German. And by that I mean you are straight and systematic and like to do things properly. You don't suffer fools. How does a straight, honest businessman deal with staff who have the reputation of perhaps not being quite so straight and, shall we say, not say hard-working or task-focused?

Do I have to answer this question?

Yes!"

Sorry, I have not mastered the multiple quotes in one post thing but, Giotto, this had me RATFLMAO. I just have this picture in my head of you and Stickman sitting across the table by the pool naving this conversation. Just because we've talked of this before.

http://www.livingstoneslodge.com"Basically we have 5 key points that we think make us an attractive place to stay. The location is close to the skytrain and we are walking distance to Emporium shopping centre, the skytrain and nightlife areas.

Second, we are Western managed.

Third, we have an all day breakfast. When I was travelling a lot in Asia doing business, I was not happy that I had to be limited to eat breakfast by 10 AM. Why not midday? If it was a buffet, I could understand, but in small places, this was not right. Here, a customer can sleep until midday or even until the afternoon and we will still make you breakfast, all included in the price of the room.

Fourth, we have very reliable wi-fi throughout the premises, by the pool, in all rooms, restaurant, bar. Everywhere! The rooms also have hard-wired internet access too.

Finally, we have a lot of space for people to relax."

Okay, Giotto, fair enough, your interview with Stickman has given me the best laugh I have had for a long, long time. Not because it is spin or untrue but because it is the complete opposite, the complete truth, but in a mix of your own honesty and Stickman's humour. I say that because it is almost the exact words and conversations we have had in the recent past. I know these are your thoughts. I would like people to understand that what Stickman has published is your honest opinion of where Soi 33 is at and what the Lodge has to offer. I endorse your 5 key points above, they are not bullshit, they are what make the Lodge special. Just saying.

I spent a couple of weeks at Livingstone's recently, leaving New Year's Eve. Bad timing, yes, but it was either leave then or never leave again (admittedly, a fate to be cherished, not avoided).

In spite of himself, that cantankerous German has created a delightful establishment and I would have no qualms spending the rest of my living days in Rm 118 and be buried at sea in the pool.

I might see you again real soon, Giotto, maybe in a couple of weeks.

Fans of the light wooden walls of the Superior Room area (101. 108) will be disappointed. The walls are exchanged by stone walls now, and will provide some better sound protection.I am devastated to hear this news. This sounds like bad news as you've always seemed a good guy providing a personalized service not easily found in this day and age. You mention that it should be great following renovations which suggests that this ownership change is good for you as well and you're not unhappy with this or is this situation not entirely of your choosing?

I recall you also opened a restaurant near Silom. Will you continue with that or is that finished as well?

As everybody will have noticed I have reduced the activities on the ISG already years ago. Soi 33 was dying, an ongoing process for years now, and there was nothing we could do to run our concept successfully. Now. Soi 33 is definitely dead.

Room 206. The building with this room does not exist any more, for 3 years already. A bar (Moulin Rouge) was built next to our building. The outcome was that the floor was vibrating from too loud music coming from that bar. Nobody could sleep in those rooms any more.

All the best, Giotto, for your new chapter of life!Bionicman,

Thanks, all the best to you, too.

I got a lot of mails / PMs yesterday. To answer one of the most asked questions:

I will stay in Bangkok, I bought a small condo here (258 sqm :) ) , and I build a "House on the River" in Ayutthaya (a bit bigger :) ). Life is really bad :) :) !

As for my professional career: I will not do anything for a year or so, just relax, finalize the renovation and construction, buy furniture and discover some good restaurants (never had really time for that). And - I will check out the high end discos, clubs and massage parlors - those places, where the beautiful Thai working girls have moved to. Then - in a year or two - this will get boring, and I will start something new. No idea what. But something will come up.

To all who want to keep in contact with me:

PM me your name and E-Mail address. I will create a group of "Undisclosed Recipients" in Outlook, and send news from time to time, that we stay in contact. Then, whenever you come to Bangkok, you can send a mail to me and we can then meet up here somewhere for a coffee or a beer. I can then brief you about the changes that have taken place in the Bangkok Nightlife (... that I know about).

B-Man, don't forget Singapore. Once in my life I want to do that one ... :)

I recall you also opened a restaurant near Silom. Will you continue with that or is that finished as well?Rjsss212,

Thanks for your positive statement in regards of our service.

I am absolutely OK with what's happening now. After some successful years until around 2008 Livingstone's Lodge lost money. Too many problems: Thaksin, demonstrations, airport occupation, killing of 100 demonstrators, floods, financial crisis, European debt crisis etc. etc. etc.). The tourism in Bangkok has changed. Years ago 90 of 100 tourists were Caucasians, now 90 of 100 tourists are Asians.

The LL concept needs to be changed, and this is right now happening. Our concept died somehow a few years ago.

I personally needed to stop the financial bleeding. The losses of the Lodge started to eat up my retirement savings. LL was listed with Sunbelt Asia in October 2012 already. And we needed quite a time to find a buyer. But finally we found one. And a real good one. A man with ideas. A man who really has a vision. A man who can make it here. And he might change all the road.

I am here right now, and I support this guy in the transition period. He gets my full support with everything he needs, and step by step I teach him about the "nervous system" of this property. I will be here as long as he needs me, at least for the next two months. And afterwards I will still return from time to time, when you guys return to here.

As for the restaurant in Silom (Patpong) - that's Guido's (my ex-manager) restaurant. I helped him to start it up. But that was it for me. I definitely prefer to spend my time on the balcony of my condo high above Bangkok or at my house on the river in Ayutthaya. But not in Patpong. No way!

Guys, don't worry about me. I am fine, and I will be fine!

For those of you hormone- and animal-instincts driven mongers (should I say "motherfuckers"?) who know me and had contact to me I will still be here. Get listed in the Outlook contact group! No reason to be sorry. And if you get over here let me know, that we can meet up somewhere.

As for my path in the future:

I was basically thinking about getting up whenever I like to, then making the difficult decision what kind of breakfast I prefer for the day. Afterwards checking the mails and the stock markets before moving to the swimming pool, sunshine, palm trees, Campari Orange. Later in the days some research activities about the local female service provider market will be performed, and the outcome of that determines further activities at night.

From time to time I will pop up in PI and have you show me around, but I also think about spending some time in places like Boracay (and some other PI islands) , Bali (and some other Indonesian Islands) , Samui and Phuket (and some other Thai islands). Once the beach and pool life becomes too boring I will spend some days in Singapore, Hongkong, Shanghai or Jakarta (KL will be left out).

As you can see life will be damned hard, but I am prepared for a long period of suffering :):):) .

Hope to see you soon!

Good luck in your future and keep ISG in mind when you see or do something noteworthy.

All my best,

It is indeed sad to know that LL is closing down. I have been to Bangkok only twice, and both the times I had pleasure of staying at Livingstones' Lodge. My first visit was in May 2006 and second one recently in Sep 2012. In my last trip, I could notice the way things had gone down on Soi 33 as compared to 2006. Anyway, wish you all the best, Giotto, for all your future ventures. As far as I am concerned, I guess I will have to look for a new place to live during my next trip to Bangkok.

Giotto, I haven't had the opportunity to visit the Lodge for a couple of years, but I never doubted that I would return one day. It seems I need a new plan now.

Please keep us posted about your future plans (and about anything else that you regard as noteworthy). That is, if your new role as early retiree leaves you enough time to write!

All the best,

Aloha my friend,

Aloha. I cannot believe it, after all this years you are suddenly back. How have you been, BESTARD?

Guys, I don't really go. I just retire and others will run the Lodge. Send me your mail address and names, and we will stay in contact.

Aloha, Pool Guy, thanks for being here with me, right when we started the Lodge as well as now when I leave.

Aloha. I cannot believe it, after all this years you are suddenly back. How have you been, BESTARD?

GiottoQuestion: So, who now is going to feed the ducks?

Suggestion: Best place a large chunk of the money received from the sale into a Singapore bank. Far away from the Thai stock market leaving enough to dabble with. Hate to hear that the vultures got a lot of it, the ladies are a different matter that is an investment into your mental and physical heath.

Enjoy your break.

All, The Lodge closed today, ...
All my best wishes to you Giotto,

Livingstone Lodge was the very first Hotel I stayed in on my first visit to Thailand in October of 2006. I learned about the Hotel from all the rave reviews right here on the ISG forum and was delighted to discover that your place lived up to all my expectations and more. Those are good memories of a great time I won't ever forget.

I had the pleasure of meeting you only twice and both times enjoyed your congenial hospitality and good conversation about places to go and things to do in Bangkok. Livingstone Lodge was an island of western style culture in a sea of Asian exotica and the feeling of welcome you provided your guests was very much appreciated.

Maybe I'm wrong but I can't help but think that things started going downhill with the Lodge when Jackson split you off from the main Thailand forum, giving you your own forum which was almost like the kiss of death. It was bad for the Lodge, bad for you and bad for all your followers on the main forum who enjoyed your many worthwhile contributions.

I sincerely hope that you will enjoy your well earned retirement to the fullest while you are still young enough to do so properly. I was fortunate enough to retire at the age of 49; discovered Thailand and Pattaya – the greatest sex paradise on the planet -- at the age of 60, and these have definitely been the happiest years of my life. Retirement for me is never boring.

I also hope that you will stay on the ISG main Thailand forum and keep contributing your entertaining posts as usual.

Best regards,

Daddy07

My life has turned out weirder than I ever imagined, and the Lodge has a starring role among the weirder moments.

All the best, Giotto!

All the best, you have been a great help to lot of people and I must say you ran the place on your principles.

Alles Gute und auf WiedersehenWandere,

Thanks. Pleasure!

And correct, I am a bastard. I run things as I like it, and I don't give a shit what others think about it.

Nevertheless - I was not really successful with the Lodge. And the market has removed me, as it should be. So, basically everything is ok.

Today, btw., I went out at around 9 pm, Arab food in the Soi 3 area. Sat there for a while, had my tea, and headed then to Bangkok Beat in Soi 7/1. Good crowd, and some nice long legs, as I remember - and asses. Wow, not that bad at all.

Left there and walked up Soi 11. Busy. Many young people. More and more girls. The girly business will destroy that road sooner or later, too, as it happened in Soi 33. Was at Oskar's, a fantastic bar / restaurant 2 years ago, but I was not that impressed any more. The crowd has changed, semi-professionals got in, and that does not really fit into Oskar's concept.

Climax then. As expected, all left over mongers in a room with all left-over girls. Good fun! Good band, with the feeling for the crowd. The people were singing. Well done, band.

2 am - sitting at the road around Soi 17. A final pint of Singha and a Chicken Noodle Soup. Now - it's 5 am :) . Life is bad!

Freedom, here I come!

Hallo Herr Giotto,

I don't visit ISG too often nowadays, so I initially missed the announcement of your 'retirement'.

I have been staying at LL every year from 2008-2012 for several weeks each time.

This year, a serious health problem made me regretfully cancel my reservation, but it looks as if I'll be able to make it again next January.

But it won't be the same LL!

However good the new owner will be, he cannot (and of course should not even try to) recreate the wonderfull LL atmosphere which so clearly bore your and Som's personal touch and made me feel so at home.

Thank you, Good Luck and enjoy your new life!

May your new life be a good one.

Congratulations and Good luck!Pita123,

Thanks, man. Same to you, too.

Right now no retirement at all. I am on construction sites all the time, watching bathrooms to be tiled, floors to be finalized, doors to be installed, staircases to be built. And besides that I am running an IT project in Shanghai. Later this your I will most likely have to develop some Apps. I need to select the right development tool for that.

Anyway - hope to see you again one day.

Sorry to see you close and as a consequence end your business association with ISG.

You certainly added some colour to this forum and although I did not necessarily agree with everything which you wrote, you were always interesting and worth reading for that reason alone.

Unfortunately now no longer possible.

Enigma9,

Don't worry, NicFrenchy has completely lost it since a few months. Years ago he still was a fun guy, but now he is spending most of the time in fast food restaurants trying to break records in gaining weight. And this had a massive impact on his brain capacity (I know that something like a "fatty liver" exists, NF obviously suffers of a "fatty brain").

Just ignore this mental dwarf. It's just not worth it to even read his posts.

Ps. In Heart of Darkness / Apocalypse Now, it was Captain Kurtz, not Kurt. Your sly reference to Wagner would be insulting to many modern Germans such as Giotto.

BTW I personally know the ex-wife of the real "Kurtz" who the movie was based on (he is now an anti-war activist and his ex-wife runs a successful restaurant in Australia, and is very eccentric.

All good fun.

As you see, there is nothing more to say. He is - done! But most likely not because of "fatty brain". It's a kind of brain dissolution, brain cells in nitro thinner. Something like that.

NF now resides in Pattaya. More or less he has moved into McDonalds, Beach Road. There are the few moments in his life that he does not eat, and he remembers that there was more in life. Then - he tries to get it up! But his 1. 2 mm erection is of course not discoverable.

NF is still proud to be a Senior at the ISG. He once told me that this was the biggest achievement of his life. I think this tells us everything we need to know about NF.

I wish him all the best.

Much as I enjoy re-fighting Agincourt and battles beyond over many centuries, 'tis time to stop pissing on each other and bring usup to date on the Lodge.

I stayed there 3-4 times over the last ten years, I took girls from the Sports Bar (ridiculous bar fine and one time the girl refused to kiss claiming mouth ulcers). Another lady I never bar-fined but had dinner around the pool with her many nights and enjoyed her company. Had I not had to leave early I was planning to take her to Koh Samui, fuck untested, because she was just 'nice. '

So stop f*cking about and up-date us on the Lodge.

Was trying to book a room in Bangkok and ran across the following.

Sad, truly sad.

The only redeeming factor is that prices are now really cheap at $42.19 / night.

And apparently, downstairs LL is now all light and swish and Mediterranean (?).

Glad to see though, that the upstairs hotel rooms are still all the same. Dark, wonky, schlocky and with the award winning 100% leather-Naugahyde chairs still in its pride of place!

Suchi A. Couples United Kingdom, April 25, 2014

Extremely poor. Ruined our stay in Bangkok.

Close to BTS station.

2. 7.

Don't be fooled by the nice pictures, this hotel does not service like a proper hotel and completely ruined our stay. The owners of this hotel are not treating it like one and we faces countless issues during our stay, On our first day we were given about three keys that didn't work, until the staff finally went up themselves to sort it out. The shower drain was blocked causing the bathroom floor to flood and the tv wasn't working. They never seemed to serve food, I asked for breakfast and the kitchen was closed for some reason. We changed rooms and this time the air con wouldn't cool down the room properly. We kept complaining and they told us it the air con just takes time. An hour later, the air con still wasn't doing its job. The bathroom was also missing a shower rail and the shower drain was filled with hair from the previous guests. After enough nagging we were upgraded to deluxe. The room seemed fine at first, but again the air con wouldn't go below 28 degrees which caused sleeping difficulties. The jacuzzi was dirty and moldy and the boiler kept leaking and spraying whenever the shower was on. We returned one night with a strange sewage smell in our bathroom. By this time we've had enough and had unfortunately had to lash out at the staff. This completely ruined our stay...Hmmmmm, wonder where I'll stay at in Bangkok now?

SEAJSE Asia Joe,

Don't know what to say.

Some of our old customers stay at S33 and found it ok (though no pool and low quality breakfast). Bless residence is another option, if you want to be close to Soi 33. But. Much more expensive, and not "dark, wonky, schlocky".

Holiday Inn on the corner to Soi 22 or S31 on the corner to Soi 31 could be options.

Nevertheless - none of this hotels provide teak wood leather chairs of the quality levels we had at Livingstone's :) . You better stay home enjoying yours ...
