what is the place directly across from the hyatt? It looked like a japanese place? At night, there were tons of girls standing waiting on the balcony.

looked like a line up. Didn't go over there, but looked promising.

I imagine I was walking in ermita and near the new hyatt which is near the LA cafe some gurls dressed japanase stand outside and waved me to come in.but they look like dogs, can you give more precise directions so I can go there and find out :D...Im allways up for new places with stunners :)

PS across the hyatt (new one) is Internet BLOG cafe 24 hours...Hotel Frendy and some other hotels...am IM right?

Has anyone done a 24 - 36 hr stay at the Victoria Court / Sogo hotels in Ermita/Malate? Are these "love hotels" set up for stays that long. I have a 36 hr layover and would be in and out of the room for the usual food/shopping/picking up.

Yes Ermita one block from LA cafe. I was saying good bye to some cam girls I had met and standing just outside the main entrance.

Directly across the street is a Bar. I don't remember the name but it had a large black sign with the picture of a cocktail glass. the bar was upstairs. and upstairs on the balcony was a whole bunch of girls leaning on the railing.

i did not get a close up look and it was around 10pm so it was dark. So they may have been dogs...I don't know.

Just curious what it was.

Hi Raver, Don't think you'd want to spend that long in Sogo Hotel. 3 hours is about enough. Victoria Court is better but the prices are higher. The new Eurotel that I reported on ..oh about 4 reports back is probably the best as its new but by no means ideal (but could hardly be better positioned with regards to Ermita/Robinsons Plaza). Good thing is that you can pay by the 24 or 12 hour period. Its not the height of comfort but is livable.

I'll assume this is the place right across from the newly remodeled MIDTOWN area of Robinson Mall.

Seems a bit upscale to do the short time biz, but thanks for the info.

X

For those love hotel aficionado's out there I have now ascertained that there is a short time rate at Eurotel Malate. Its called the 'fast fuck rate'. I joke;) Its called the 'wash up rate' which is even worse as there is no way they are having me do the washing up before I leave!!! Its a 4 hour rate (better than Sogo's 3 hours and is P395 for a studio, P480 for a regular room and P950 for a suite. Discount cards are available on application at check out on the first visit and offers 20% off all subsequent visits.

Pretty good deal for a more upmarket ST hotel. GH

Yes your right X but its really just a newer version of Sogo and under same management. Used it last week - 4 hours = 480 p. Nice enough but unlike Sogo there is no discount scheme in place (next month I was told) so no 20% off future visits ....boo..hoo :(. I will use again though as it couldn't be better located for lurve hounds without a 24 hr hotel room. Gama

Had my mobile stolen from the room by the cleaning staff. I reported I had left it in the room after leaving the Hotel but no one in reception bothered to go and retrieve it.

Do I recommend Manila?

No.

Just wanted to share some details from my trip last month.

Kinda went over budget, but was a birthday present to myself.

1st: Renaissance Makati City Hotel, 2 nights.

Weekend rate for $105+ taxes and service charge per night, got upgraded to club room, nice view.

Guest friendly, tried to skirt by security with EDSA (Firehouse) babe, but was asked to register. Guess security can tell the difference.

2nd: Riviera Mansion in Malate, 3 nights.

P 1870 per night, great location and price, guest friendly, no hassles when I brought back several LA Cafe babes.

Only problem, no cell phone reception in room.

3rd: Hyatt Hotel and Casino, last 3 nights.

$140+++ per night, standard room was much better than the Renaissance, wanted to treat myself, so up-graded to deluxe room (just a bit larger with a bay view, really not worth it).

Slight problem with the AC, just wouldn't get cold enough for me, engineers, couldn't do anything. Call guest services, they apologized and offer me a suite up-grade for the last night! Outstanding!

The LA Cafe babes were impressed. Especially the repeats who visited me at hotel #2. One actually said I was crazy spending so much for the Hyatt.

BTW, very guest friendly no hassles what so ever.

Hope this helps

I've sent emails a few times within the past week to City State Towers in Ermita re: room reservations. They haven't responded. Sure, I can get a calling card and call them, but has anyone had a similar response from them..or rather difficulty getting a response?? You would think that someone sending an email asking for reservations for a stay in Oct. / Nov. would get some sort of fairly prompt response.

Thanks for any info.

Anyone get contact info (phone number and or email address) for the Eurotel in Malate? I'll be in Manila for 1 night in a couple of weeks and am thinking of trying the place since it's newer. I usually stay at Cherry Blossoms, which is ok for the rate, but wouldn't mind a newer place.

I've seen the ad at sulit, but looks like this is just some referral guy and not booking directly with the hotel.

Thanks

Stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental in Makati. Despite the sniffing dog and usual metal detectors seen everywhere nowadays, the place is very friendly, including GF. Took a girl up to the room (her walking ahead of me) around 11 PM, no one blinked. She left by herself around 2 AM, no phone calls asking any questions. Overall very good experience at the hotel.

I notce from its Internet site that renovations are 'ongoing until 2 October 2008' but 'only between 0900 and 1800.' It appears that the renos. are only in the Bay Wing levels 2 and 3.

Has anyone stayed here recently? Are the non-Club (i.e. lower priced rooms, typically US$165 or so on asiarooms.com) rooms acceptable, or very dated and archaic?

I assume that this hotel is (like the Hyatt in Ermita) totally GF. Are there any hassles such as 'registering guests' or the 'checking type 0300 hours phone call' if a guest of one of us leaves suddenly in the middle of the night?

Has 'Spirals' buffet 'deteriorated' as one TripAdvisor review claimed, or is it still fantastic? I gather on a Saturday it now costs P1950 nett excluding drinks.

I am connecting with a friend in MNL, in Oct, but he arrives 5 hours before I do. He has never traveled to PI, before, and prefers to travel with me up to AC versus going on his own. He arrives into T-2 at about 0600 and we were originally talking about hanging out at the airport until I arrive. Others on this board have suggested that might be hell for a first time PI visitor, and I guess I have to agree. Another option would be for him to take a taxi to a nearby hotel that would guarantee early check-in and I could meet him there.

Any suggestions? I think he would prefer a OK hotel to a roach infested one, but would appreciate options.

Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

http://citystatetowerhotel.com.ph/Interesting that you should mention that, as I am having a similar problem. I tried to book that hotel with one of the online agents and whereas the agent is supposed to get back to me with confirmation within 24 hours, it has already been 48 hours and no response. I finally emailed the agent and they got right back with apologies to me saying that they are still waiting for the hotel to reply to them with a confirmation. Looks like this hotel is lacking in administrative organization, or in the motivation to fill its rooms!

You will have a hard time finding a hotel that will guarantee early check-in as they will want to keep that room open to paying customers the previous night. Even when it's not high season. I've gotten screwed twice and have come to the conclusion that the only way to guarantee the early check-in is to pay for the previous night. Well I'm just a bit too cheap to do that so next time I'm in that situation I will just get a room in the nearest Sogo or other short time hotel for a few hours, then go to a regular hotel around 1pm.

I agree with Finrod, my friend came in earlier than I did and I suggested he stay at SOGO until I got in. He actually had time to go to LA Cafe and pick up a girl for ST before I got there. Only negative with SOGO is no in room safe and you don't get a key, they unlock the door for you every time you come back. However, like Finrod said, you won't be able to find any hotel that will guarantee you an early check in.

The much nicer and newer Eurotel also has room safes and a 4 hour ST room rate. They also have card access room locks so their is no need to check in a key if you go out.

My PAL flight also arrives early in the morning late October on a Saturday. I have reservations at the City State Towers in Ermita. I suppose I would be at the hotel by 7 or so. Ha.

Are the short time hotels close enough to take advantage of until I can check into the City State Towers? I hate to reserve a room for the few hours I mght not be able to check in there?

It'll be my first time to the PHils, so I'm not too knowledgeable yet.

Any ideas? Is the SOGO and Eurotel hotels close by and easy to book once I arrive?

Someone also mentioend it's best to tell the LA Cafe girls to meet at the hotel as cops can shake ya down if you leave with one?

Thanks for any advice for this Phils newbie.

I recently used the new Eurotel for a 12 hour booking which was about right for the LT hookup I made. But the standard rooms are very cramped and furniture is limited. Rooms at Cherry Blossoms are much more comfortable, and many have refrigerators. No fridge at Eurotel, just the basics. I kinda like to take a little sip of cold water shortly after draining bodily fluids, so the fridge makes a difference to me. The Eurotel is a good deal for one of the 4-hour rentals or for 12, but the 24 hour rate puts it close enough in price to Cherry Blossoms, Las Palmas, Executive Plaza and others available through Agoda.com that it's not really great value for the money. Eurotel is definitely GF, and it is close enough to City Towers to make it practical to do a shorter rental there and then move to City Towers. Having recently done business with both AsiaTravel and Agoda for lodging reservations -- even on less than 24 hours notice -- I found Agoda to be more responsive and with more lodging options. I recently stayed at Las Palmas on two different monger jaunts and found it to be clean, comfortable, reasonable and with fridge in the room. They make you put down a 1000 PhP deposit or post a MasterCard or Visa account number at checkin to protect against stealing towels, cleaning out the stocked contents of the fridge, etc. They're GF but definitely want the girl to leave ID with them. They're within about two blocks of LA, so an easy walk.

For the Eurotel booking I emailed the guy who has the crummy looking website. He says he needs 48 hours lead time, but did mine in less than 24. His promised rate requires paying at check-in with cash, but he did come through and the rate was as promised.

Skip recently reviewed Las Palmas and it is a place I used to use. I was there last month, but only because Rothman, Exec., CIty and a few others were fully booked.

Skip, what room did you use?

I got a room fronting the street and it was terribly noisy. Thinking about closing the windows tighter I realized there were also windows on the balcony. I walked out onto the balcony and closed the windows.

That balcony trip.... Sometimes you just know things are NOT right. Yea, my hands and soles of my feet were black with whatever fkn pollution rides the Manila air. Disgusting. I had to take another shower.

Las Palmas has a great location, but not high on my list of hotels to stay in while in Manila. Ooops, my advice is don't stay in mnl at all.

If you're making a permanent move, sure you can think about bringing your dog, but for a temporary stay, you should think twice.

You will have to go through considerable paperwork, fees and airfare to get your dog there. Also pets from colder countries usually do not adapt well to the weather in the Phils and it's quite easy for them to get sick, what with polluted beaches, streets, bad drinking water, ticks, fleas, other dogs, etc. Have you found out what happens when you bring the dog home again? Will it have to go through similar paperwork, quarantine, etc.?

That's gotta be the Ritz Hotel of kennels if you say it's still cheaper to bring your dog. :)

Well I'm arriving from America, and staying 4 or 5 months, cutting his hair to wiffle, bringing Advantix for fleas and ticks, buying bottled water for him. Last time it cost me 350. 00 dollars for 2 weeks in a kennel. I still think I'm saving money.

Hi,
just let you know that some hotels will charge you an extra joiner fee. So, in case your dog (male?female?) wants to bang a hot pinay(oy) dog that would make allready three person in a room and if you here for the ladies too, number of people will increase.

I stayed some years ago in Durban Inn Makati and they quote me 300 pera extra for having 2 chicks after midnight in my room :D

4 or 5 month in the Philippines. Think twice, maybe your dog likes to gang bang and then your in big trouble :))

PS: dont worry , Im sure you can bring your dog to any hotel as long as you pay for it

Ok, Hello, again. Day 1 in Manila. Plane broke down in Honolulu so arrived in Manila too late to go to Cebu. Mistakenly txted girl in Angeles, when I was supposed to txt Manila girl. HUGE mistake, as now Angeles girl is all Tampo. OH well, there is only about a million of them. So, after 13 hours on a plane, I go to Hyatt, where I stay before. Only they want 180 USD, uh, no thanks, I went to Excecutive Plaza which is anything but. 80 USD for good room, no free internet, but room is clean, bed is big, and cable is good. Went to LA Cafe as I was tired and did not want to search other clubs. Met a bunch of Americans and then brought back two ladies. Wierd thing was after the mutual showers, one girl wanted only to stick her tongue in my ass, while I had sex with the other one. Weird! I have never done/been into that, but when I had sex with anal tongue girl, all she did was complain, "its too big, it hurts, yada, yada, yada". So, that was boring listening to her, so back to fucking skinny girl. And guess what? Number 1 goes back to the tongue in the ass thing again! Guess that was all she really liked to do. Tongue in the ass, finger in the ass, etc. Kind of distracting cause I am a meat and potatoes kind of guy, just like fucking and that is it. So, finished up, gave anal tongue girl 1500php and doggy style sperm recepticle girl 2000php. Anal tongue girl complained, but I just pushed her out the door and said Aloha.

Took a plane to Cebu today (next day) and will go to beach with FH girl. Report tomorrow on tonite activities. Staying at Holiday Plaza for 2000php per night.

Spent four days at the Best Western Hotel in Makati, it is a three star hotel providing adequate accommodations. Hotel had some bad reviews from some travel sites but they were mostly from travelers with families complaining about the hotel being too close to the night life coupled with the beggars and sellers on the street. Book online from BW website and you can get a room for about $68.00usd which is high for what you get but comparable to other hotels in Makati. Rooms are ok but the carpet needs to be replaced, wireless internet for 200P and hour is available on the top floors but it is spotty and slow. One bright spot was the breakfast was very good, overall not a bad place to stay for a short visit or an overnight stop over.

Belanov71, while some disagree, I like City Garden Suites in A. Mabini Street: close to LA Cafe if you wish to go there, and also close to Robinsons Place Mall which is fantastic and which has recently been extended even more. However if you decide upon City Gardens book througha website such as www.asiatravel.com or www.asiarooms.com and do not choose the cheapest rooms: for about US$10 a night more, go for the 'suite' rooms that have a bedroom, a bathroom and a lounge room. You can also visit Amazonia for ST hotel rooms if that is your style. Should you be on a higher budget, the Hyatt (Ermita) is fantastic and its evening buffet at Market Cafe for US$35 or so including free unlimited beer and soft drinks is superb. Midway in price between the two is The Manila Hotel (a long walk from LA Cafe but a short taxi ride) which will typically be US$100 for a double compared with US$160 or so for the Hyatt and US$75 for the City Garden Suites in Ermita (not to be confused with its sister property across town in Makati). Always ask for a 'high floor' to minimise traffic and other noise. RTFF for details on G Point which in some ways is classier than LA Cafe: usually has a good band playing from 2230 or so nightly if not a bit earlier. There are some ladies there too, although obviously smaller numbers than at LA Cafe.

About $50 as of last year. The hotel's own websites often charge high rates than sites listing hotels from different companies. Try agoda.com, asiarooms.com or asiatravel.com. Even Orbitz, priceline and travelocity can SOMETIMES offer discounted rates. It pays to check multiple sources.

I would like to know if the Manila Diamond Hotel is girl friendly too.Nolz, Manila Diamond is Japanese-owned. They EXPECT you to bring a girl back with you. When I stayed there, as I was returning with my squeeze I once saw a van pull up the drive. 4 Japanese guys got out with 4 rent-a-girlfriends in tow. Sweet. Standard operating procedure for Manila Diamond. All the LA Cafe regular girls will know it (and like it for its girl friendliness).

Danahaste, The Hyatt Hotel and Casino next door to the Manila Diamond is very girl friendly too. The Sofitel, last I heard, had a practice of checking ID cards. Because it is located next to the convention center, I suspect there is a bit more security to protect out-of-town guests from getting ripped off. Even when it was the Westin previously (I loved the suite rooms in that hotel as well as the zen-feeling golf driving range into Manila Bay), they carded girls after 10pm. Enjoy Manila, Asian Rain

It is quite a haul from that Holiday In to EDSA. Save the points Waffles. Stay at Copacabana, or even one of the many love motels that are a short walk to EDSA Complex.

I never had girls get carded going to Westin even later at night, although they did have extra security by the elevators that checked room keys. The prices have gone through the roof since it became a Sofitel and have not been back. One thing I liked was bonking out on the balcony.

Is AF 1 like the Macau massage parlours where you get a wash, massage and sex? How much time do you get per session at AF 1? Multiple shots or one pop only?

LA Cafe is on small block away. Takes less than 5 minutes to walk. So is the Robinsons mall.

AF1 is near the airport so it's about 15-30 minutes or more depending on traffic

It's a beautiful place and I suspect you can bring a lady. I didn't stay there, but checked out a room.

There was a substantial discount if you provided a Filipino ID. If you have a girlfriend, this might be the way to go. I would give you the prices I was quoted, but you didn't share your info -- quid pro quo. Maybe just an oversight. What is the "good promo"?

I was curious about the top elevator button that said "pool". I asked the elevator girl if there was a pool on the roof. She replied, "No, there is a pool in the presidential suite."

I am inclined to stay in Manila Hotel (near the grandstand in Rizal Park) as they have this good internet promo going on. Just wondering if Manila Hotel is girl friendly.

Thanks guys.

XI didn't try at the Hyatt this year, but last year I had a pinoy friend book a room at the shangri la edsa with a local ID. got a great room for about $100.

The moral of the story is make sure your gf brings her ID. My lady, fortunately forgot hers, which gave me an excuse to book a room at half the price. I was kind of hoping she invited me back to her place, which wasn't so bad for the free price.

But if she had her ID, I would not have hesitated. I didn't stay there, but what I saw at Manila hotel showed top class service all the way. Be forewarned though, that I like antiques and old classy better than ultra modern plastic bullshit. (talking hotels, not women)

Now, I don't know what happens if the only ID she has is the "GRO" Id from Angeles city, or who knows where else.

Hi all,

I booked 3 nights at the Perla Mansion Makati Condo. Have never stayed there before, does anyone know the place and could confirm if it is girl-friendly? If not I am in trouble for I prepaid the stay...

Thanks for your help!

Manila Hotel is a GF hotel, no problem.
The hotel is OLD and rooms not so good anymore.
I stayed for several weeks in March/April this year.
Breakfast has become poor, especially compared to Hyatt and Sofitel.
A chinese guy that owns one of the newspapers bought the hotel some time back, and they dont even have fresh mango for breakfast. But - if you ask the waiters, they will bring you.
I dont intend to stay there again.

IT IS A POOL on the roof of the tall building, and a condo. I stayed at the 18th floor during the earthquake in 1999/2000 (??), and it sprunk leak that night and water came down in to the corridor of my floor.

The room they showed me was immaculate and had a nice view of the bay. Maybe they are in the process of renovating rooms.

Have you stayed at Hyatt (Ermita) recently, and if so, how much did you pay?

Most hotels offer a balikbayan rate that is lower than the foreigner rate. SOME require local ID, but not all. I used to have my ex wife always book the hotel at local rate but after a few nights some would refuse to honor it seeing there was foreigner staying in the room. Asiatravel, for example, lets you book the balikbayan rate and they never ask for ID (but you must put Filipino in the nationality section). Just like booking the AAA rate for hotels, many of whom never ask to see your AAA card.

Excuse my jumping in here:

Stayed at the Hyatt Casino in one of their King rooms recently (early Sept) and the best price seemed to be on their website - USD140++, comes to about USD170 with the taxes and charges. Had an excellent room with a view northwest, so part city and part bay. The rain shower alone was worth the price of admission ;)

I agree. Paid the same rate from their website. It was better than agoda or asiarooms.

the room was the best I have stayed in. MUCH better than the Heritage and I liked it better than Shangri La. Had the same bay/city view. Saw the fireworks over the bay from the MOA.

Yes, the shower is fantastic.

The location (so close to LA cafe and robinsons are also a HUGE plus.)

I honestly dont know, as the company receive the bill, and me cover the extras only. I stay in the Club rooms, and they are GOOD.

Same with Sofitel. Stayed in Club rooms. Excellent. They are renovating the whole hotel, and I am told it is more expensive now, than when called Westin.

I learned that we have a corporate rate at the above hotels.

At Manila Hotel it was USD.110 +++, up 10 from last year. The last few years I only stay in the old original building of the hotel, and they are changing carpets and renovating here. Maybe they have started in the tower as well?

Rainshower is a shower in the ceiling of the showerroom, different from the shower that is normally mounted/hanging on the wall.

Think of tropical rain, coming down on you hard, as you have experienced it sometimes, and they have transferred it in to the shower.

They sell it all over now, in new closed-up bath-tubs, with steam, jacuzzi, rainshower.

You should upgrade to a club-room next time, not just stay at Sogo or VC :D so you can experience the difference.

I guess you better make damn sure the water temp is okay before turning that sucker on.

Criticizing someone for their use of abbreviations is kind of anal retentive, don't you think?

Greetings from L.A., California!

Will make my first solo trip to the Phils early November and looking for decent accomodation in Ermita (near L.A. Cafe) for about 3 nights, before I had to AC.

Budget is $45 - $60 / night including taxes and I would like a GF hotel with a pool and in-room safe.

I found the following on the internet - please advise if anyone has any experience. Many thanks in advance:

Garden Plaza Hotel - 3 stars - $46/night including taxes and breakfast.

I've stayed at Tropicana (twice) and had a large two-room setup with a large balcony. There is a pool, but I didn't use it. They cater mostly to long-term rentals. It's a large place, but they don't rent so many of their rooms. I brought an EDSA girl once and had no problem.

Tropicana and Pearl are technically in Malate, but you can be at Robinsons (Ermita) in five minutes -- on foot.

I looked at a room at Pearl and liked it, but they have been fully booked every time I called.

Paco Park has a pool, but location is inconvenient. I don't have the URL handy, but you should be able to find it by searching for Paco Park Oasis Hotel.

I stayed at the Trop a few times in 2007. Not the nices area, but I felt safe waling around. It is a close walk to a large Mall, Robinson's Mall.

I liked the size of the rooms, I had 3 or 4 rooms over a months time. Just make sure the room has a double bed and not 2 single beds.

Good advice about the double. But in a pinch you could always push two singles together. Be romantic and tell her, "This is my bed and that is your bed." .....pause... "You can come over to mine anytime!"

Figure the rest for yourself.

X

PS: In my advanced state of decrepitude, I'd prefer a nice Double bed with springs in order to give more cushion to the pushin'

I just completed a 7 night stay at City Garden Makati on my first trip to the Philippines. If your interested in seeing Burgos St., it's a short block to the action. The hotel is totally guest friendly and does not check guest id's. The two elevators are reached before the reception counter and are adequately quick...especially if you're on a lower floor. Construction is occuring next door and noise extended until about 2am. I have no idea what they were doing that late, but it was a minor issue for me. The room struck me as a little small but adequate. There was an electronic lock box in the wardrobe cabinet and a stocked referigerator. AC is fine. Hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. Housekeeping would send up extra towels if requested. The very attractive roof top pool is open to the sky, has a small hot tub, and is just over 5' deep with lounge chairs and a pretty nice view of the city.I read in the forum that they charge for a guest using the pool. Beach towels are furnished by staff at the pool who check you in. I regret not utilizing the pool more. It would have been a nice way to spend time with a date during the day. The pool closes at 6 pm, but there are tables and chairs elsewhere on the roof top. I did not check out the casual bar up there in the evening.

The restaurant is on the second floor and serves a buffet breakfast which seemed to change a little each day. One day the hot dishes were labled and the next they were not. Not being from Asia, I found myself wondering what some of the dishes were. Cost is 330 pesos unless you have it included with your room. I think the cost was reasonable for Makati. Food selection was barely adequate and there may be much better options nearby. Convenience for you and your lady were it's biggest selling point.

The biggest downside to CGM is the poor wi-fi in the room. You have to buy access with a coded card for x number of minutes, but the connection was terrible and the card was quickly eaten up. Staff was accommodating by allowing complementary use of the four lobby computers which had available mic/headsets. One staff member suggested that I ask for a refund for the computer access card, but I didn't bother. Internet Cafe 88 is very close by with excellent connections when you really have to be online. Good laundry services are a half block away, but I don't know if you save much over the hotel service.

One point you may want to be aware of is that upon checkout, they will send someone to the room to check the minibar...etc. This results in a delay getting out of the hotel. So give youself a little extra time for check out.

Having never been to Manila before, I had envisioned that one could walk around in Makati and check out the scene. Due to heavy traffic, lack of decent sidewalks, high temp and humidity, this is impossible. You can check out the few blocks on nearby Burgos, but you need a taxi to get to other parts of the city. There is nothing to see that I'm aware of on Makati Ave near the hotel The street is choaked with traffic. On first arriving, I did walk to Greenbelt Mall, but most people will want to take a taxi. The Greenbelt mall is large, upscale, and has a variety of restaurants including the Havana Cafe...a freelancer pick up place. Greenbelt became a frequent destination for dinner dates for me.

I"m in Boracay now and return for a few nights in Ermita. I'm looking forward to the change of scene in Ermita, which should be much more colorful and edgy than the City Garden Makati area. Any questions, pm me and I'll modify my report to include your issues.

This two year old hotel is about 150 - 250 metres down Pedro Gil Street from Robinsons Place Mall in Ermita (on the other side of the street: it is also close to the Pedro Gil LRT railway station).

I didn't avail myself, but it appeared the hotel was totally GF. Staff were friendly but not overbearing. I did not test for WiFi, as there are two Internet cafes at 20 or 25 pesos an hour within 150 metres in Pedro Gil Street.

It was clean, comfortable, quiet and spacious, with quite good aircon, though a tiny bit too noisy. Breakfast was OK but not exceptional.

It is about a 400 metre walk from G Point and similar to LA Cafe, or a 37.5 peso (less than US$1) taxi ride to or from either.

May be worth a try.

Also the name reads hostel but from looking at there website it looks more like a hotel does anybody know if this is a hostel or hotel? Also it is a member of these three hotels (executive plaza, palm plaza, and las palmas) all of which are GF friendly hard to believe this is not. Any thoughts?

I stayed at Hostel1632 for 2 nights about 6 months ago. I was with a girlfriend (and checked in with her). So can't confirm for sure that the place is friendly to bringing a hobby date back. I think if you reserved for 2 persons at check in you would not have any problems. My observation was that security was not too strict.

The name hostel1632 is just a name, it's a hotel.

One interesting point, the rooms are really small, more like a long walk-in closet. The place was fine for the low price, I didn't have any complaints.

A buddy of mine wants me to stay at the Manila Hotel when we get to the land of LBRPFM. Anyone know if the place is girl friendly. Another friend told me the place is not overly excited or cooperative with guests bringing girls back to their rooms. Any feedback would be appreciated.

As long as the girls look presentable they won't mind. Besides there are always conferences going on in the manila hotel so as long as they don't look as hookers they won't even question what they are going to do in the hotel. And in the rare cases they do, the front desk will just inform you that you have a guest waiting.

With the prices of the hotels these days, I am considering renting a vacation rental condo in Malate for my upcoming 3 week trip. I have found no info. on this reading back through all the posts on the various threads, so I am curious why no one has ever chose to do this. I found several condos such as Baywatch with very reasonable prices, with all the luxuries of home, so my question is why would a person pay the astronomical prices for a room at the Hyatt, Dusit, e.t.c, or pay to stay at a reasonably priced place such as the Executive, when you can have a more spacious place with more amenties for the same price as say the Executive?

Does anyone have any info. on the Baywatch condos? Does anyone have any recommendations on other vacation rental condos? Any imput could be very helpful to many on the board who are considering the same thing for there housing needs.

Your kindness in responding will be greatly appreciated!

I found a couple of nice condos for low prices using that site, VRBO.

I found Craigslis to be useless, same few places just spamming the site.

Send me a pm if you want the info on the places i did stay.

Its just crazy how much hotel prices are in PI these days what gives? PI isn't even a place one could consider the economic hub of Asia, its far from it. Actuallly its close to the bottom tier if you ask me. I personally was thinking of buying a condo for persona use and renting it out to you guys on the board. I wonder if i would get enough members or be able to rent it out on a regular basis.

Hey Pimpster! Would that be a discounted rate for ISG members? :D

This sounds like a great alternative to the Hotel/Motel rentals. The trips I have made to PI had me staying in rooms that I felt were not worth what was charged. If your stay is for longer than a week, I would think the Condo deal would be much better.

Guys are doing that in Cartagena ,Colombia. I have stayed at some great condos there. Last trip there was $50.00 a day for a nice condo with great view. There is a guy and a woman that I know who are "agents" for "off premises" condo owners. Last trip was $50.00 a day for a clean and decent condo with a view. Cartagena however, is not a world capitol which might explain higher prices for just a hotel room in metro Manila. Maybe I should start heading down there again. One hour time difference and no 24 hour travel time. P4P is alot cheaper in Phils though. All in all better women too.

There are not many specifically vacation condo rentals available in Manila. Most landlords insist on a minimum contract of 6 months. This suggests, as Pimpster said, that there might be a niche in the market. I can see it now, a block of self contained condo's run and occupied by ISG Members, each coming complete with its own cute Pinay maid dressed in French Maid uniform complete with feather duster on a stick!! Oooh la la :). Down boy! Could call it the Monger Inn. Bound to be a winner.

Sadly, back to reality there are a couple of vacation let condo's at http://rentals.classifieds1000.com/Philippines/Metro_Manila. Also Buy and Sell Philippines (http://www.buyandsellph.com/listads.asp?search=840http://www.buyandsellph.com/listads.asp?search=830), has loads of rental and you could try negotiating with the owner for a vacation let. Think there is a surplus of condo's (building them everywhere) so a short term let is definately possible.

Also, has anyone checked out the Dakota Residences in Adriatico recently? They are not condo's but have small apartment style studio's complete with kitchen. Might be worth considering. GH

I figure I could rent it out while I'm not there and provide isg members with all the comforts of home at a good rate. I spend 2 to 3 weeks each trip to PI and my hotel bills alone is like around 2500 in hotel bills. I m not a snob, but decent hotels that have enough room for me tends to be pretty expensive. Thailand and Vietnam are way cheaper in everything, but than again the girls don't really speak english.

I have a complicated situation. I own a condo in the Fort area, which I leep in on my visits to Phils but all the security guards all know who I am. And certainly know my wife. So when I want to entertain overnight cuties I've been using A Venue, which is on Makati Ave, not too far from Burgos but isn't a hotel. They only have one and two bedroom suites so much more space then a regualr hotel.

Rates are about US$70 per day, and lower for longer stays. Has car park (which I need) and close to Makati ave.

For me, this place is ideal and if I was visiting Makati would be my choice as Makti 5 star hotels are crazy prices.

Downside, bathroom isn't that big. So I take cuties to Executive rooms in Sogo for the big bath scene.

I have no interest in promoting this place (I don't even live in Phils) but for me its new, clean, efficient, breakfast included and seems to meet my needs.

However do remember that this is a Catholic country and there are laws about "moral turpitude" and "scandalizing behaviour". Which means if a girl is giving you a blow in a car and you are seen, nothing will happen to the girl but you, as the foreigner are in a world of shit.

Ask me, I got caught by the police once in my car with pants around my ankles and a girls lips on my dick, and was within minutes of being in court before my offer of "mucho pera" defused the situation and made it go away.

I was thinking about booking the Crown Regency in Makati (http://www.crownregencyhotels.com/makati.php) next time I'm in Manila. Did anybody ever stay there? What's its location like and is it GF?
ThanksI searched this thread prior to booking the Crown Regency Makati and I didn't find anything. So, I took one for the team and booked online, not on their website, but through Asia Travel http://www.asiatravel.com/philippin...kati/index.html

WOW, I was really surprised with the location, back of Greenbelt 3, and with the quality of the rooms. The hotel is less then one year old and the rooms are only $60, with free DSL and breakfast buffet. I booked for two; no extra charge and that entitled me to two breakfast buffets.

Very girl friendly and when I came back with three girls, the security pulled me aside and asked if I was okay and if I knew the girls. He was only worried about my safety.

They have three rooms. One is $60 and one is $70, the difference is for the $60 room you get no view from the room and for $70 you can see the street. The third room is a corner suite and it books for 4100P.

The rooms have two full size beds and we just pushed them together and had no problems. I kind of like having a crack in the middle of my bed The room had a 25" TV and walk-in shower. They have a nice gym and a small, but nice cafe downstairs. Very easy to get taxi and walk into the mall without hassle.

One downfall of the hotel is the walls are very thin But no one said anything about noise.

I normally sleep late and then play again prior to leaving the hotel (from 5 to 8:30 pm) for the night and housekeeping was there when I called within 2 minutes to clean the room. I also flipped the room four times (called housekeeping to make the room up, when going to bring home new girl) with no questions from anyone.

If you book through Asia Travel, you have to pay them up front and they will email you a hotel voucher.

Yella, Greenbelt is in Makati. So yes, this is a ways from LA Cafe.

If you want walking distance to LA Cafe and an in-room safe, you could try the City Garden Suites in Ermita. I haven't stayed there in awhile, but I think the rooms would be somewhere around $60 plus the usual outrageous fee for internet access. I think you can get the breakfast buffet included in your price.

Other posters may have better ideas; this is the only Ermita hotel I've stayed at so I can't speak for other hotels, but I'm sure there must be some with in-room safes.

Hello,

I am looking for a cheap hotel in the Pasay area.
Last time I was in Manila (back in March), I stayed at Kabayan Pasay in their cheapest rooom, which was about $35 per night, if I remember correctly.

I just checked their website and the rate is up to $44 now.

My gf there just wants to be with me and couldn't care less about the room. And I AM a cheap Charlie and would like to keep my accommodation budget around the $30-$35 range.

Any good suggestion for hotel in that price range (or cheaper) that is similar to Kabayan and close to Kabayan Pasay?

Thanks in advance.

Is the $39.00 you were quoted inclusive of taxes and surcharges? if so, you did get a good deal! However, I think Agoda advertises the price of a room without taxes. When you click to reserve your room the other fees will be added to the final total.

This has been my experience with Agoda. The listed price does not include taxes. The taxes may bump you up another $5 or so. But I have found Agoda to be very reliable. They have a good selection in all parts of Manila and at various prices. Also, their system works swiftly and accurately. You click on the purchase button and you have instant email confirmation. The confidence of knowing for certain that you have a reservation is worth something. I have reserved rooms several times with other online services and sometimes directly through some hotels' own websites and ended up jumping through some hoops (i.e., follow-up telephone calls) to make sure the deal was sealed.

My gf made a reservation at the Executive Plaza for a one week price of 15,000 Pesos. At the current exchange rate, that comes out to less than $44 US daily. When I checked on Agoda, the room rate was $39 + $7.84 tax each day ($46.84 total).

Now however, she says we might want to try the Tri Place Hotel. She says it is in Cubao. But their web site (triplacehotel.com) lists it in Quezon City. She says they offered a one week rate of 11,000 Pesos. Anyone have any experience with this place? How difficult is it to get to the good entertainment places like EDSA, LA Cafe, and P. HWHW,

I know many motel offer discount for pinay.

For example, the Dakota Mansion in Malate offers a 15 % dscount.

I've been going to the PI every year since 2000.

The hotel costs in Manila have been going up about 10 % every year.

Places like Rothman Inn, when I first stay there it was about 22 usd a night, and last year it is up to 34 usd a night.

I think it is the asian enconomy have been good, but now you might see the hotle prices will drop with less tourist / demand.

I have used Agoda exclusively when I travel to Asia. The rates are most of the time the cheapest, but the best thing about them is the reliability. They have online help. Which I used twice when a Air Asia flight got cancelled during the late afternoon and I was able to use that nights reservation for another hotel that same night. Awesome! They do add taxes, but another perk, I have gotten upgrades on a much regular basis when I have booked with them. I have nothing but positive things to say about Agoda.

Hotel pricing. Many of the better hotels use a 3 price tier (for call in reservations at the hotel itself). At the lowest is the local or Philippine market which the room needs to be reserved by a Filipino. And ID is produced at check in; the second tier. Or the Japanese, Korean market. Then the third, or high end reserved for us Western folks. But beware of one practice when I stayed at the Peninsula at Makati. They quoted my gf a price of $60 a night. Local price. Then the next day raised it to $150/night to the western rates. Needless to say the room card stated the cheap rate, but they gave the excuse it was weekend only. NO waivering on the price, so I shut up and paid it. I still love the Pen. But one bad experience. If you get this. I suggest you pay up front for the room and have the clerk mark the room paid in full.

I have booked rooms in the past at Shangri-la. Having my driver come in and book the room with his ID I got a great room for under $100.

Agoda is weird. Sometimes they have great pricing sometimes not. Got a good rate at the heritage once, but I got a better price at The Hyatt by going directly to hyatt's website.

Still, using a local with an ID is the best way.

coming first time to manila on 13th for 6 nights. can someone please suggest couple decent hotels (or apartment) around the hot-spots of manila that have high speed internet connections?

here is my order of preference:

1. good high speed/broadband internet connections in the room
2. in and around the hot-spots of manila (rtff makes be believe makati/malate/ermita are better locations, correct?)
3. price (anywhere from $50 - $200/night)

like latin america and other asian countries, would you believe staying in 4 or 5 star is necessary to get a good internet in the room?

i was reading the forum and noticed the following hotels were suggested but i was not sure, if they have good high speed/broadband internet connections in the room or not.

edsa/ortigas:

- shangri-la
- tri place hotel (triplacehotel.com - 11,000 pesos/wk) - cubao or quezon city

malate area:
- executive plaza hotel ($44) - most often recommended hotel these days
- hyatt

makati (20 mins to la cafe on sunday, more on week-ends):
- crown regency (asiatravel.com) - $60
- greenbelt
- peninsula - local price: $60/night,
* - dusit - $80/night - close to burgos
- citygardenhotels.com/makati - $67

near la cafe:
- city garden suites in ermita - $60
- cherry blossom, 550 bocobo street, ermita
- kimberly hotel, ermita

any help, suggestions, recommendations, pms will be highly appreciated.

Try contacting the hotel. Or try Asiarooms.com to see if a room is available then. Many times. Reservations that far in advance can not be had because of policies set up by the hotel for resale through other sources.Try hoteltravel.com web site as well as it has single rooms and twin standard at $56 for end februay. I tend to use this site rather than the others as I generally find it very good on pricing. But I did find a good price on Agoda once.

she says we might want to try the Tri Place Hotel. Burgos Street from there? HWBy now you've probably figured out that triplace has two locations. Cubao is in the Southern part of Quezon City, but the Tri Place is quite a ways from the center of the district known as Cubao. It is not close to any of the favorite mongering haunts except for the high end clubs along Quezon Avenue. These rarely get any reports in the forum any more.

The other Tri Place location, which you mention in a subsequent post, is in Pasay City within a few blocks of the EDSA complex. It's about 20 minutes by taxi from Burgos and maybe the same from LA Cafe. If you're adventurous about using light rail it's close to both the MRT line and LRT 1.

Thanks guys.

I don't know why Agoda doesn't have Exec Plaza listed and Asiarooms does. But I'll book it soon.

I appreciate the help. And will report back!

Not included in room. Very noisy too. The big plus being proximity to LA Cafe but not worth the other drawbacks.

Don't know what happened to the Executive Plaza. Flew in to Manila last night and told the driver to take me here after arguing about Makati hotels. (The driver told me all 3 star were fully booked). I got here at the reception desk and said I had stayed here before and did not have a reservation.

Hahahah, she told me "only super deluxe available now for 3500 php. " I laughed out loud and told her to come on, give me the regular room for the regular price. She told me only two single beds for 2500 php. After about and hour of haggleing, we settled on 3000 php for super deluxe. Funny thing is, my last room (9th floor) looked just the same as this 15th floor room, and I noticed the two single beds were just pushed together and held with a strap. I didn't even use the place last night as I ended up in a short time hotel and just came back and went to sleep. Breakfast is OK, but hotel clerk did not mention free breakfast. So, I came down too late and breakfast was 300 php for philippino breakfast.

Internet is 240php for 1 hour, and 480 php for 4 hours. You can buy the access cards at the front desk. Also have travel services and money exchange service, but the rate is a little bit low. Travel is also more as RT to Cebu was 4600 php. Makes me wonder if this place is worth it anymore. Didn't even go to LA Cafe last night as I wanted something different and found it within 10min inside Bedrock bar just a little down the street.

Nice girl, about 27-28, actually was a pharmacist (saw her license). Took it in the ass with a little bit of complaining, but a set of A cups and a flat rear end did not make me too fired up about her. Total damage for ST was 2200 php for the girl and 250 php for the room. Side note, don't use baby oil because it tears up the local condoms. American Durex held on without a problem, but the locals fell apart within seconds.

Sometimes I wonder if it is good to know the real prices of what things should cost because I always feel like I am getting ripped off. Never had that feeling before in the PH. That was why I liked coming here. Now, not so sure.

On to Cebu tonite.

Diver69,

Take a look at triplacehotel.com. They advertise a Pasay location. Not sure if it is exactly where you want. Their rooms are listed from 299 Pesos for a Barkada Room to 2100 Pesos for a Deluxe Elite Room. I'm sure your price range is in there somewhere.

HW

Although I referred Diver69 to this shit hole before, I wanted to post a retraction and warning about it for everyone to see.

I just returned home from a stay of 10 days in Manila. Not much to report as I was with my gf the entire time. She had tried to do some recon on the hotels, especially in the Malate area. My first night there, we checked in at the Executive Plaza. She had reserved the room for 1 week, but the bed hurt my back, so we checked out with no problem. Her sister had suggested the Tri Place Hotel in QC/Cubao, as it advertised rooms for PHP1800. My gf called them in advance and tried to deal with them, but ended up finding that the room was PHP2100/night for 2 people. We decided to try it out. In order to keep the 2100/night price, they wanted us to pay for 7 nights in advance. Nothing was mentioned, and there were no signs stating anything about a "no refund" policy.

The first problem with the Tri Place Hotel, is it's location. Not only is it to far from everything, but it is surrounded by "squatters shacks" (my gf's words). It is a bit scary to walk around outside the hotel because of this. There is no safe in the room. The shower has no water pressure. And a whole list of other problems that made this place seem like nothing more than a cheap ST motel. After one night in this place, I was ready to go back to the Exec. Plaza and put up with back pains. When we tried to check out, however, we were told that the hotel had a "no refund policy" and they could not do anything without the manager's approval. My gf was so pissed off about this, that she was scaring me. After sitting around for about 1 hour, waiting on the manager, we told the desk clerk that we were in a hurry. She told us to wait a little longer and the manager would be there. We decided to go make use of the room while waiting, and the gf wore me out. After finishing, about 1.5 hours later, we went down to the front desk with bags in hand. Still no manager. I think it was because they didn't want us in the way of other customers, but they finally told us that they did not have the cash on hand to give us a refund at that moment. And they asked if we could return on Monday to retrieve the money. I told them that I would only agree to that if they provided me with a written, signed statement to the effect that they would give us a refund for the unused days. They agreed and we left there and went to check in at the Aloha Hotel in Malate. My gf liked this place because the balcony window overlooked the bay (but we kept the curtains closed to block outside viewing of our bed activities).

On Monday, we took a taxi to the Tri Place Hotel and were once again asked to have a seat and wait. After about 30 minutes, the manager finally sat down with us and started asking a lot of questions about why we wanted to leave. My gf wanted to complain about the "free" haircut coupon for the salon in the same building, that ended up costing us PHP650. But I stopped her and told the manager that the bed was not comfortable for my back condition. She accepted that excuse, and then proceeded to tell us about their "no refund policy." My gf and I both told her that nobody told us about this policy and there were no signs stating this policy either. When my gf stated that she wanted to call the Police, the manager told us "don't worry, we will refund your money. But, do you mind paying for 2 nights?" This pissed me off, in my deepest, loudest voice, I said "Hell NO! We only stayed in the room 1 night!" The manager simply said "OK." But then, after counting the money out, she asked if we could come back later to pick up PHP600. Again, very loudly, I stated "No! We have been waiting 2 days already! Magically, she was able to produce the entire refund.

Don't go to this place. If you do, don't accept any of their "free" offers. You will pay for them dearly.

[QUOTE=Aussie Mate]I may have picked up the prices from the older thread. Please ignore the prices.Sorry you must have picked up the Pen price from an earlier post of mine. I was with my gf who worked at a national TV network and they have a corporate rate combined with the local rate for their guests in return for broadcast considerations. It was a price given in pesos, but roughly $60 with taxes, but this was in 2004. As I said it was for only one night!

I go Manila next month, I need budget guesthouse max. 10 euro a night, girlfriendly, please any help. You could go to Malate Pensionne in Adriatico Street. They charge p1300(?) for an aircon room with a double bed. Shared CR/Shower. The room is asian size e.g just big enough for the bed & luggage but is modernish, clean & QUIET. As long as you are discreet no problems taking a partner into your room. Free breakfast included which is quite decent quality.

Double bed 'Fan rooms' in any pensionne are cheaper but very uncomfortable (no air-con). Only suitable for people from hot climates who are really stuck for money.

have not checked it in MANY years, but I'd be surprised to hear that has changed. And the layout is not prone to sneaking her in.

10 Euros a night will get you a ST motel for 24 hours but in Manila not much else. And many low end pensionne's are not guest friendly.

I was told no guest allowed at this pensionne.I was'nt explicitly told anything at Adriatico Pensionne.. but I paid for a double aircon room & I took girls there no problem 2 weeks ago. Looked the girl in the lobby in the eye, smiled, greeted her & the doorman courteously & continued on to my room with bonk of the night in tow.

Nice to have a place to sneak off to if you suspect your hotel may be indiscreet.. ahem!

Malate pensionne is very strict about guest registration & kinda disapproving.

I always find its how you handle the situation that makes a difference. If your activities are a nuisance to the staff or other guests you will have difficulty.

I often use Citystate tower where I have bonked innumerable young ladies. I have had up to 4 (four) girls sleep with me in my room. I make arrangements up front & PAY THE MAN for the extra occupants. Result? I am welcomed back there with open arms. Every time I bring another new girl the doorman's smile gets bigger I swear! ;)

Bottom line, the cheaper you go the harder it gets to act like a sex tourist.

Those who use short time hotels will be interested to know that there is a brand new drive-in extension to Sogo Hotel in Malate. It is situated on Adriatico behind the now tired looking old Sogo Hotel on Mabini. There are drive-in, no-tell regular rooms and deluxe rooms upstairs. Everything is clean and brand spanking new in the functional but adequate rooms which are larger than the rooms in the other Sogo This is reflected in the price which is slightly higher, but they honour the 22½% Sogo discount card (which you are given on request after your first visit) which brings the ST rate for a deluxe room down to a little over 400 pesos.

MI am staying at the Executive Plaza right now and I know that they charge for WiFi by the hour. There's a large, very nice 24 hour Internet Cafe around the corner that's cheaper anyhow. Sorry I don't have any other details.

I booked into the Executive Plaza for the week despite the recent negative reviews but only because it was the only decent one available. I normally prefer the Lotus Garden or City Garden Hotels but they were booked solid. I was able to book, through Agoda, a standard room at the Executive Plaza for about US$48 inclusive. Clean room and no hassles so far.

They have decent internet. But ... they also have high fees for it. I think it was 570 pesos per day or something like that. Could be higher now.

Hotel owners in the Phils have not caught on to free wifi as an inducement as is common in the US and the UK, consequently free wifi is a tough find there.

I agree - I was at the Hyatt and had no worries being visited three nights out of 5. Twice they called and made sure that it was OK for my guest to leave - once she must have slipped past security.

No extra charges, hassle heading for the elevators, etc. Pricey Place though - US $ 130 a night

I only stayed two nights at the Executive Plaza but it seemed fine to me. Typical three star hotel in the third world. The few complaints on here seem silly. The internet is overpriced? Of course it is, it's a hotel, not an internet cafe. Like it was mentioned before, there's an internet shop just around the corner that's much cheaper.

They also give a lower exchange rate at the reception desk, I agree, but again, that's what most hotels do. There are money changers all around that part of town, I think one is even just a few steps to the left once you exit the building. Again, it's a hotel, not a casa de cambio.

I have no idea about the breakfast since I didn't pay the extra money for it, but there are many places around the hotel that serve good, affordable meals.

My only complaint was there was no shampoo in the dispenser in the bathroom, but I just went next door to the 7-11 and bought a small bottle for about a buck.

It's walking distance to LA Cafe, it's completely girl friendly and the bed did it's job, what more do you guys need?

Can anyone tell me if the standard rooms are OK here or do I need to book the deluxe. And the best way to get to AC from here will be? Also best way to get from AC to PG, Sabang?

Thanks for your help here.

Good enough for me. I have it booked for several days end of Feb. And first part of March. If anyone is around there, Angeles, or Cebu during that time, let's have a beer and chase women!

OH, wait. You don't have to chase them there. They chase you!

No extra charges, hassle heading for the elevators, etc. Pricey Place though - US $ 130 a night

Did you get that price booking it directly with the hotel or through some travel agent?

Also, does anyone know if you can take 2 girls to the Hyatt at once for a 3-some? Would they charge you for the second girl?

I checked in, when straight to LA and brought back 2 girls within a half hour. Not even a second glance. When the girls left, they called my room to ask if it was OK.

Later that night I brought 4 web cam girls to the room while I changed before we went out. I got a Grin from the door man, but no issues.

It's pricey, but a great hotel and an amazing shower!

Do this by turning right out of LA Cafe down Salas towards Roxas Boulevard. After about 30 yards you hit an access road. Here you will find plenty of regular taxi's that will use their meters and what is more you get there quicker as you avoid the frequent snarl ups on Del Pilar).

http://www.pearlslettingagency.com/#The last several times I have been in Manila I have stayed at the Somerset Salcedo. It is a serviced apartment in a high rise building in the heart of Makati. I would definitely recommend it as 4star quality. I also stayed at the Somerset Olympia and it was a dump. The Somerset condos are all in the heart of Makati and close to everything you want to do.

If you are unsure about any of these places I would book your first two days in a decent hotel and have a cab take you to look at several of these places in advance. The management will have no problem showing you the room before you book it.

No experience at Salcedo. Somerset Millennium (I just left! ) is well placed for Greenbelt and the scene there. (book on line thru the website and you get free internet for the exec rooms and I think a better rate than Asia Rooms etc. I like the rooms. Breakfasts average. But caters for wide range of tastes, front desk staff totally stunned and hopeless, always have some issue with bill. But will stay there again as I like the location for the better restaurants. And Havana Cafe and the malls across the road.

FYI. No signing in but the concierge will call your room when the girl (s) leave without you.

Depends how much disposable income you have. Burgos quality is higher and you pay for what you get. LA is generally lower quality than Burgos and you get what you pay for. Prices at LA Cafe significantly less than on Burgos. If I had a wad of cash to blow I wouldn't go anywhere near LA Cafe but in this economic climate, I have a feeling I will be spending alot of time there.

Just the info I needed. Stayed there a year ago, heading back next week. Glad to know it is all still fine and dandy. For reference, last years experience was great. Big clean suites, staff checked girls on way in but no issues or challenges. Was never up in time for the food

This is one of the better values in makati (but by Greenbelt, NOT PBurgos mongering district, about 10 minutes by taxi). VERY new, nicely furnished room. Book through asitravel.com or discounting site (about $60) as rack rate is $80 or so).

Heritage is WAY overpriced nowadays (never paid more than $75 there until a year or so ago when local travel agents stopped getting discounted rates). Copacabana next door is reasonably priced but a step down in quality for sure.

I have stayed at Hotel Indah in november for a few days. The location is near the Town Hall across from SM city mall. Not a very good location for mongering. I had my GF stay with me.
The prices were much cheaper then. Stayed in a delux room for 1800 pesos.
Set breakfast. No buffet. Since the mall is next door can go there for lunch and dinner.
Room was ok. Not great.

Based on a few recommendations on this board, stayed at the Victoria court in Pasay. It is behind the Heritage, decent 3 star place and price is right. The rooms are large for the price, and overall pretty clean. As someone mentioned, there is porn on tv, but the very mild kind without showing the koochie. Also, it keeps playing the same movie over and over again.

The negatives: I pre-reserved the place on the web, them taking a 10% non-refundable deposit. When I arrive with the printed document in hand, they inform me that goes to the web-reservation account and I would need to pay the whole amount. They are unfailingly deferential, as most Filipinos are, but still ripped me off of this amount. Also, the locks on the doors do not work well, and there is no safe in the room. I had a camera on me, so after one night, checked out.

Advise: if you want to stay in this area, just show up. If they are full, there are several other "love motels" in the immediate vicinity. Also, these are meant to be short time rentals, so they don't have great locks to feel secure in leaving your stuff when you go out.

Just my 2 pesos worth of advice.

I showed up without a reservation, but able to accommodate me. This is a typical high end western chain, so no need to elaborate on the level of service.

Some particulars: no issues with bringing a girl in, but as long as you accompany her. When she leaves without you, they better remember your room number. I had, perhaps accidentally, given her a fake name and she couldn't remember the exact room number. For this, they held her for over an hour while trying to figure out how to contact me. Apparently, they just let her go after some time. She complained to me the next day when I saw her again. Her fault, mostly.

Great deep bath, and rain-showerhead.

Obviously, the LA Cafe and others scene is just down the street.

Great timing on your report! I was going to inquire about the Hyatt as I will be in Manila next week and pondering booking this place for a few days. my plan is to meet a few FH freebies and if things did not work out have some action close by. How close is LA Cafe and could I walk there or do I need to cab it?

The hotel looks good on the asiatravel website but a bit expensive for a king room at around $140-$175US per night. Did you get a better rate from the hotel directly?

Any other good hotel alternatives to the Hyatt around the same area?

Thanks in advance,

Hey StokerAce,

LACafe is about a minute walk, very very close.

Walking in without reservations, they offered USD 170, so definitely book it on the website for USD 140. You might get better deals at some of the other sites. At that quality level, there is the Pan Pacific nearby, but I think the Hyatt is about the same price and better service and amenities. The diamond is also nearby, but little pricier for a possible view, but nosier because it is on Roxas. Check it out yourself.

One step down (but big delta) is the Executive Plaza, probably a block away. That should be in the USD60-80 range, but check for yourself, there might be better deals.

Just a helpful hint, the Hyatt charges P800+ for 24 hours of internet access. If you walk outside, there are several internet cafes that should be a fraction of that. Most are 24/7.

Have fun

One more thing, this place does not have internet access. Walking around the Pasay/Baclaran area, no obvious internet cafe either! The closest I found was at the SM Mall of Asia. That is way too inconvenient for checking emails and getting some work done.

Street scene? LA Cafe is stuffed full of amatuers & pro's. Prices are high compared to Angeles City.
Street scene on Burgos varies dramatically. Amazing occassionally, grubby often. S'up 2 u!

The local experts may add more, but the Burgos area has the dancing bar scene, the DonPedro massage and the occasional SW. One night can run P3500-7000 (actually no real upper limit)

The Malate area has LACafe, the annex, Amazonia, SW, Robinson potential pickups, and the various "bars" (but different than Burgos). I'd include the EDSA complex in the mix as Pasay is not too far. One night will run about P1500-5000 (again depends on too many variables), but less than Burgos.

In terms of variety, the Malate area has more choices. I leave the quality question up to you as I don't know individual preferences. For me, I like both areas depending on the mood. Your attack plan of hitting both areas sounds about right until you figure it out.

Had the same issue once about the girl not knowing the room, so I used to just write down the room number and name on a piece of paper with hotel stationary.

I really like the security at the Hyatt, but I will stress you have to book either online or with some travel agent. This will save you about 50 USD. If you show up without a reservation then the price will be inflated.

The good thing in my mind about the Hyatt is the increased security (metal detector at the door), and the increase in service. Hotel pool and workout facility are very nice, and a big giant hot tub is a nice way to relax and have a drink. As an aside, I was drinking in the hot tub with my bar fine one night. The manager showed up and started yelling at the staff. This was also about an hour after the pool closed so I thought he would kick us out. He comes over to us and says, "no drinks by the pool area". So I said OK, and started to get out. "No, no, no, no, I fix this for you", he said. Then he had the staff move my table and lounge chairs over to the hot tub so we could set our drinks on them. Then he said we could stay as long as we wanted. That was nice I thought.

As for getting laid, one night I woke up at 4:30am and was missing some company. So I went to LA Cafe and brought back three girls together within an hour. That was fun.

Another plus is the casino has the only Craps table that I know of in Manila. My last stay there, on my last night, I won 30,000 peso in 15 minutes with a hot roller (biggest, fattest Filipino I ever saw was rolling hot). I immediately took the money and paid my hotel bill. Thank you for the free stay and room service! Not saying that it will happen to you, but it was nice for my first time in Manila.

Overall, I like the Hyatt. Expensive, but nice. Better then the Exec Plaza for sure. Plus the security keeps the rif raf from hounding you too much. I usually tip the head security guy though.

The elevator takes up to 5 minutes to go up or down and as I was waiting for the elevator a guy was spraying for cockroaches and the smell was so strong, I got a headache.

Try booking via the Internet using asiaroom, hoteltravel, agoda (all thos simialr sites) and you should get better rates than rolling up

I'm going on a trip to Manila but I'll be surrounded by family most of the time.

From the forum posts I've read so far, guys take the girl to their hotel room for either a long overnight stay or a short one. However, this isn't really an option for me.

I've been to places like Tijuana where you can rent a room next door to the club for 30 minutes. Is there anything like that in Manila? How about Angeles City?

There is one in Malate I went to. They have short time rooms available based on how many hours you want it. Another option is to go to Amazonia club. It's on Del Pilar St. just down from LA Cafe. They have short time rooms in the upstairs part of the club. I'm sure there are other options as well. These are the first two that came to mind.

Welcome to the board. There is plenty of info here. As for short time hotels, the most famous and numerous is Sogo, but there are many others. Actually, it would probably work to just ask the girls. They usually know!

Anyone used this hotel?
I am overseas in Australia on family business until february 14. I have booked this hotel on spec for my return to Manila because it appears to have roomy suites, a nice pool & very reasonable rates. I prefer a suites that with small kitchen as opposed to a small hotel room.

Icidently Fernandina 88 Suites Hotel offered me an airport pickup at p1,800 - Yikes!! 8-o

If I don't get any feedback I will post a report when I get there.

Other value for money hotels i have used :

Great Eastern Makati, cheap, nice suites, no pool, quiet but still walking distance for a Burgos ***** in stilletoes.

Makati prime towers, roomy suites but a little worn, small ugly but useable pool. Also quiet but still walking distance for a Burgos ***** in stilletoes.

City State tower, classy for the price. Easy walk to L.A. Cafe. No pool.

I looked at renting a greenbelt condo for 2 weeks because they are similar to a hotel suite but all the ones I browsed seemed very small for the price. I read many comments online that you the condo you get is not what you expect so I passed. Anyone got good things to say? I dont live like a millionaire so dont talk to me about high end stuff. It attracts the wrong kind of attention in this country.

AVTry A Venue suits on Makati Ave. Bathroom is very small but its a nicely designed room area. Close to Burgos, disco in mall next to hotel (get rooms facing away from disco). Book thru Asia Rooms. I found it be a clean and decent and way way way better than Great Eastern (its over road from Great eastern) Hope this helps.

I booked a room at the Great Eastern Makati on my last trip, and I must say it was one of the worst hotels in which I even stayed for one night which was the case as I just couldn't stand the musty odor that permeated the entire hotel.

I also noticed that there were many water spots on the ceiling which suggested either water pipe or roof leaks. Also, the sheets were dingy and only changed daily upon request. Overall, the room was old and tired looking.

Btw, the G. E. Makati does have a pool on the 10th floor, but it is small, and like the rest of the hotel, it did not look refreshing.

GE Makati is certaily not a $80/night hotel but the two times I was there the rooms seemed quite ok for the price. Probably better than others in its price range.
Avenue suites is considerably more expensive BTW (but Im sure its nice).
Looking forward to trying Fernandina 88 Suites.

Guess i have to find a hotel for a week in Manila before finding a condo for long stay. So far, search and ISG yielded these hotels in 40 to 55 USD range.

>> Palm Plaza Hotel

>> Lotus Garden

>> Executive Plaza Hotel

>> City Garden Suites

Going by the reviews Executive plaza and lotus garden seem to be the favorites.

Any idea how they compare or any other similar places..thanks

Personally, would give this hotel a pass. Palm is right next to Executive Plaza, and slightly cheaper, but much lower quality in my opinion. The rooms are old looking, and my room had a musty odor/fairly unhealthy smell. Kind of mold-like if you know that smell. Elevators are particularly slow.

Hellow fellows.

I will be in Manila, malate area feb 11.. Feb. 14.

Have been browsing many websites for hotel. And just wanna know if my choices are girly friendly.

1. Manilo manor

2. Citystate tower

3. Duckinn

4. Stargate pensionne

I know my question might be foolish, as most hotel in this area will allow girls.

Thx a lot in advance. Maybe some wingman will join me.

Picked up some good info that I need to share with the brethren. Went for a walk today, cruised by LA Cafe and got the strong "old Manila pro" vibe so I opted to pass by and head directly up to Robinsons. As I was walking along the little food cart street just prior to crossing over to mall property (Cherry Blossoms on the left) a very hot little honey gave me the eye as she was walking with some guy back toward LA Cafe. "Good for him! " I thought and kept on trucking. I had some lunch on the second floor above the National Book Store and watched the action roll by (Sushi right next to the escalator). In the space of an hour, at least three acceptable women made it clear to me they wanted to play. However, I was enjoying lunch and really had no firm mongering agenda. After finishing up I decided to head for the cab line and go home for the afternoon.

As I'm walking through the mall the hot thing I had seen earlier says "Hey, I know you! " as she seems to be returning from wherever she was. Some short conversation – she's 20, nursing student, ID check, and chit chat; 20 minutes later we are heading for a place to get comfortable. We cut through the mall and walk into the Eurotel – which is a very nice looking 3 star (my guess) place. The Eurotel is on Pedro Gil and directly across from Robinsons. At that point, I am resisting a bit because I don't want to shell out for a room I'm going to use for about an hour in a nice hotel. It turns out this place is very monger friendly – if you ask at the front desk they will rent you one of the nicest little rooms I have ever seen. The short time rate (6 hours) is p580. ($12. 30 US) It was very clean, well appointed, it had a electronic room safe in the wall (awesome – I can shower without worrying about my stuff), a clean bathroom – unreal. At that point the girl could have left – because I was in love with the room.

She showers, I shower and meet her in the bed. Long curly hair, beautiful face, amazing body, smells great (no cigarettes or other funny odors) – in short, stunning and clean.

… (censored) ...

On departure, she hinted at p2000 but I already tucked p2500 into her pocket. Normally – I would pay no more than p1500 but this one got an extra thou for the new hotel info, attitude, enthusiasm. Total damage – p3080, $65.00 US, or $21.60 a pop.

Morale of this story – check out the Eurosuites as a great short time alternative... If the other rooms were at all as nice as mine – it's cleaner, newer, though a bit smaller than Traders. I would stay here if I was traveling and recommend it to others.

6 hours p580
12 hours p1092
Day rate p1810 (includes buffet breakfast for two)

It seems Manila has an abundance of low-end and high-end hotels. I don't quite have the budget for the high-end. But I can afford $75-80/night. I would love to have reliable internet access (Like I get at AC hotels) but I imagine that is a pipedream based on my experience. So here is what I'm looking for:

1. Under $80/night.

2. Somewhere near the Makati or Edsa action.

3. As clean as possible.

Any recommendations?

Based on your criteria, I would suggest:
1) Copacabana in Pasay (EDSA)
2) Astor Hotel in Makati

Neither has internet access for free, but is available for a fee. In Makati, you have the option to step out and find an internet cafe, in Pasay that option doesn't exist, so must use hotel access.

Also, there will be gradations of cleanliness. For example, Copacabana can look worn, but is quite clean. Some of the short stay hotels have newer looking furniture and fresh sheets, but have dust balls under the bed and corners. Fairly subjective and depends on how picky you are. From my experience, more in the Philippines than some other countries, you get what you pay for, in terms of hotel quality.

You could also try the Oxford Suites on P. Burgos. The rooms are attractive and very clean and there's wired internet in the rooms, though you will have to purchase access time for a couple of hundred pesos at the front desk.

crown galleria suites in makati across from dusit thani is very modern and clean, in your price range, and has free hi speed internet access (one of the few in manila that i know offering this). book it through asiatravel.com

it is not walking distance to pburgos bar district, but a5 minute taxi ride away. it is right next to the galleria mall which is loaded with nice shops and restaurants.

Sounds Perfect. Thanks guys! I just don't understand why it is difficult in Manila. BKK and AC have great hotels in the $40-80 price range (even less in Pattaya).

I plan to spend the majority of my time in AC. Staying at Pacific Breeze. But I'm heading down to Manila to have some suits made and to sample the super-stunners at Edsa and Burgos.

My past trips to Manila, I've stayed at the Best Western in Makati, City Garden, Holiday Inn near the ADB, and Heritage. Each of which seemed to be lacking in some significant way. IMHO, Manila would be a great mongering destination if it had hotels that compared to the other hotspots of SEA.

I have to agree Manila is a getting worst and worst,The cost of the hotels keeps going up in price. Not a bargin and mongering is getting worst.

There are no reason to stay here anymore ,Just go to AC or to Bangkok more fun there.

To answer another posted query first, the Baywatch condos are quite guest-friendly. Just a security guy at the desk, no lobby full of onlookers....

It seems to be a nice place for PHP 3800 a night (euro 65), with a 30% discount for long stays. The studio is smallish but nicely appointed, TV, DVD player, well-equipped kitchen, great view, pool, gym, and sauna. Free wifi in room, but it's not exactly superfast.

No restaurant on premises but plenty nearby. Also, that part of Malate is definitely not as grotty as closer to the LA Cafe, but easily walkable.

I have stayed at the Pan Pacific and the Hyatt and the differences I found between the two is that Pan Pacific has a better buffet breakfast. Also the Diamond was more expensive of the three. If you like LA Cafe, then Hyatt is the closest of the three but none are too far away. I think the differences are minimal so I would choose the best rate.

I would have to agree that the price is higher in general vs. Pan Pacific, then again, I don't really think the Pan Pacific is worth it either. I prefer Pearl Garden which is diagonal from PP and is less than half the price but has been remodeled. Diamond is probably the most expensive of the three but with these economic times, I"m sure there are varying sale prices on the different websites.

If you are going to be in Manila for more than a couple of day's a very good alternative to hotels is rent a condo.

There are modern decent fully furnished AIRCONDITIONED condos available for sub letting around Pasig/Cainta area which is not far from Ortigas.
Realty agents handle the initial enquiries & pass you over to the private owner.
The condos developments are typically huge with a central 'clubhouse' & large landscaped pool areas.

If you pick up a long term BF or GF its is much nicer. I have had good experiences with this. Beats being cramped up in a hotel room IMHO. YMMV.

Prices $27 - $35/day or sky is the limit depending on how much you want to impress yourself.

Can be had by searching the Internet or by local contacts.

PBI've stayed in all 3 many times and I must say that the Pan Pac wins every time!

One thing that put me off the Diamond was that Mayor Lim has breakfast there with some cronies every morning! My gf pointed him out to me!

I have stayed at Diamond 3 times
Hyatt 4 times
Pan Pac 10 times

I visit Manila regularly on business so it's actually quite cheap and staing in 5 star hotels in a slummy area can be a good refuge!

Pan Pac has some great restos in it also....my fave is Miyabi Japanese..

It is definitely girl friendly.

As a rule of thumb, I have never heard of a non-girl friendly hotel in anywhere in the PI. I think people would be so outraged on this board they would have their own section.

I stayed at Diamond for a week last year. Like all hotels, no problem bringing guests but I hate having to go through the security bag search myself, let alone the girl guest. And it's a huge lobby always full of people. I would say it's a typical 4-star hotel, not bad, not great.

i doubt very much if the girl is ****. she is employed by cotton club. these eastablishments check and make sure. maybe the guards were not sure. ofcourse you could have told them she works at cotton club. you did not want the club to know you arranged to meet the girl after hours.
security people thought you picked the girl off the street.
if you had barfined the girl i think you would not have had any problem.
the smart thing to do is always barfine the first night. later once you get to know the girl you can arrange to meet her after hours.

Easiest to describe them. One did all the talking at first, and she is easy to spot because she honestly looks a bit strange - crooked teeth, flat face, and big eyes (probably a shabu user), but a very nice smile and good talker. She said her name is Cristina. Her friend was slim, pretty, medium length hair, very demure looking, wore hardly any makeup. Something like Linda.

I'm at a condo, not a hotel, and it doesn't matter what the name is. I could have had them stopped by security on the way out, but they didn't have the camera by that time. Does anyone know if you can take 2-3 girls at once to your room at the Pan Pacific?

Or do they allow just one girl at a time?
