Regarding Eurotel: their wifi is thoroughly unreliable except in the lobby area. I took a suite room for the window, but it is no bigger than the standard room and the router in the hallway just never worked at all, even after multiple power cycles. The front desk answer to me was we can put you into another room, but there's no window. Grrr! I paid the higher rate on Agoda to get the room with a window, now they want to downgrade that? I was there 4 days and no real effort was made to fix that router or put in a replacement. Had to go to the lobby or across the street to Robinson's.

Well I think I will just stay in Exec Plaza next time. At least their room rate combined with their wifi rate is something I can live with. Plus the Exec Plaza room will be better kitted out with the accessories we look for in hotel rooms. Hand towels and floor towel, for instance. You don't get those in Eurotel, just the two skimpy bath towels, that's it. You get a blanket on your bed at Exec Plaza which helps when the aircon gets dang cold. When we stay at these budget hotels I don't think we really can afford to complain about services or amenities. People have always told me you get what you pay for.

I recently stayed at a Eurotel as all the Five Stars were far away from where I was and I was too lazy to drive. I heard on this forum that they were a "step up" from the Sogos. LOL. Luckily the girl I was with turned out to have a Ph.D in fucking and sucking or due to this sham of a hotel the total night would have been a wash out.

There is a budget hotel on the north corner of EDSA/Taft which is quite popular. Think that it is called the Kabayan. Anyone stayed there?

Kabayan is very popular with the OFW crowd looking for an overnight after arriving from abroad and before catching the plane next day to the province. I understand from a friend that the owners/management are quite religious and will not permit you to take girls to the room, especially if they are obviously b/gs. The same friend managed to take a friend past security without any questions but only because she looked older and could well have been a legit wife. I am repeating his comments made to me and do not have experience of my own in this place, so I can be corrected on this.

It's not much of an area to stay - if I had to stay in this vicinity I would stay at Heritage at the EDSA/Roxas Blvd junction and opposite the EDSA IEC.

Overall, I have been more satisfied with Exec Plaza than other places I have been to on this trip, although Swiss Chalet in AC and Blue Rock in Barrio Barretto both have their attractions.

My main bone of contention in the Philippines is just getting an honest, reasonably efficient service at a reasonable price, whatever that price is. Exec Plaza wasn't perfect, but I do feel they take a pride in what they offer. It makes a change from grovelling servility combined with disreputable or problem traits.

With the aircon at Exec Plaza, I would just turn it off at night.

@Warbucks - some deals are better than other deals. We can agree that Eurotel ain't one of them.

Eurotel may still be OK for ST; I've used an ST room there not for a provider, but to get some shuteye after arriving at the airport at 5am and either waiting on the shuttle to AC or waiting on a regular room to be available after lunch. The latter because I found through experience that practically nobody in this area will honor early arrival requests; either pay for the night before or take an ST room until the reserved room becomes available. Last time I did this, Eurotel gave me a room for 495p for 4 hours. Sogo's would be a better deal; maybe I will try that next time I need to do this.

@CS - I've seen Kabayan Hotel from walking around in the area about a half dozen times. I decided I preferred a hotel in Ermita/Malate to this place even for a one-nighter.

I decided I preferred a hotel in Ermita/Malate to this place even for a one-nighter.Agreed - the area is grotty as hell and I wouldn't want to spend a night in the vicinity. The Heritage may be tolerable, but only because of its proximity to the EDSA bars. It has nothing else going for it.

Eurotel Malate is a splendid ST option as its well situated, clean and cheap. Again I wouldn't want to spend the night there although many do. But as a hot sheeter, it is a much better option than Sogo. And their trademark murals are fun to pose your girls against, as I often do.

Of course, we are not all wealthy, injudicious (or stupid) enough to use 5 star hotels for short term liaisons;). But for those born in lap of luxury, nothing else will suffice....LOL.

Collegues,

In June I will be visiting Manila for the second time. I would like to stay in Manila for 14 days and nights. Is it usual or am I allowed to ask for a discount if I stay in one and the same hotel for the time I'm in Manila? I don't know how flexible hotels in Manila can be with a request for discount.

Any answers will be highly appreciated. Many thanks.

Mike

P.S.: Guys, I know already that Manila isn't the coziest place on earth to spend vacation, but please save me your comments on this. The reason why is that I've scored enough dates to spend my 14 days over there. Personally, I don't mind staying in Manila and if it's really giving me the creeps after some days, I will surely ride out to other nicer places to relax.

Is it usual or am I allowed to ask for a discount if I stay in one and the same hotel for the time I'm in Manila? I don't know how flexible hotels in Manila can be with a request for discount.Last time I checked Peninsula, Shangri-la and Mandarin Oriental in Makati all had general long-staying rates. They usually start at 14 days, so you should barely qualify, however modalities differ between them. Shangri-la had additional special rates for stays longer than a month. Peninsula had specific rates for various lengths of stays, but I had to almost torture the front desk girl for the best. She kept coming back with new pre-printed sheets of better rates, meaning she was keeping them from me first, despite me specifically asking for them. It's probably best to talk to the front desk / club floor manager. From my experience hotel rates are generally highly negotiable, strongly depending on your length of stay and the general hotel occupancy. Hard to negotiate when a hotel is fully booked, unless you are a regular guest of course and have your own personal rate anyway.

Like the Pirate Codex published hotel rates (rack rates) are more what you'd call "guidelines"... At least at those 3 fine establishments.

I have always found that my room is much cheaper online than when having to deal with the front desk.

My girlfriend however was able to organise a package to Boracay via a travel agent in Manila with flights, accomodation and a few tours at less than half what I was able to organise the accomodation. We are obviously paying foreigner rates but still, relative to what I am paying in Australia it is much cheaper in Phil.

You most certainly should ask for and get a discount for a weeks stay. Perhaps upwards of 20%. Some hotels offer discounts if you pay in cash.

Yes you can get some smoking hot deals through local travel agents especially in Manila. Many travel agents advertise their package deals in the daily newspapers.

"doing one night before I fly out" strikes me as giving the absolute minimum amount of info....so why do I even bother to respond?

How did you find out about this place??

It's very close to Robinson Mall, but farther from LA Cafe than most of the Malate or ermita hotels that have already been recommended on ISG.

I think most of this place is long term rental. The rooms can be very large, but rather plain. It is in the uni area. I liked the big balcony.

Had one night in Manila between various destinations and I was flying out early the next morning so I saw this one on Agoda and thought I would take a chance on it. The report: the room itself is large and clean; the bed is good. Breakfast is not included in the rate, but the cafe kitchen makes decent meals though they are not cheap compared to local prices. Wifi only in the lobby, but it works well enough. The bad: Protacio Hospital is next door, otherwise it's in the middle of nowhere; really nothing within walking distance for the foreigner, especially after 9pm or so. Fairly quiet area at night. So I would call this place no good to the foreigner for anything more than what I did: one-night stayover with flight out early in the morning. You will get to the airport pretty quickly even in the morning rush hour. Can't say if girl friendly, but I think they are. There were other foreigners staying there, but they all had wives or girlfriends in the immediate area (Paranaque). This might be a choice for some, but I don't believe I'll be coming back.

I know some mongers don’t care if the bed they sleep in has bed bugs or cum/blood stains as long as they have some brown third world ass to penetrate but for the more discerning monger the Victoria Courts are an excellent option.

While a tad bit more expensive than the Eurotels and Sogos they also are a true step up and suit me fine without breaking the bank. If you can’t afford to pay 30 bucks for a couple of hours than perhaps you should try water Polo or Soccer?

i'd like to report about a nice boutique hotel i've discovered on roxas blvd the g-hotel. aka the g spot

no it's not a st hotel for quickies, it's more of a boutique hotel.

i think after the high end options of pan pacific, hyatt and diamond hotel, it's the best choice in malate. i mean it's quite new, and it's much better than las palmas hotels, executive plaza etc.

it's not 5 stars, but it's 3, 5. 4 stars.

it's a sort of condotel as there is a small kitchen part. the staff is friendly, the room is super clean, the bathroom is large & confortable.

and the wifi is free and it's real broadband i could download windows update crap at about 200 kb/s not a common speed for the phils.

location is a bit remote between pasig & malate on roxas blvd, but it's like 3 minutes away in taxi from la café!

i paid about 100 usd a night all included on agoda.

i consider this hotel to have an excellent value for money. at this time (early march) rooms at diamond, hyatt, pan pacific were more like 150 usd+.

the only annoying part is that taxis don't know this hotel, and taxis don't stop in the side street of roxas bld were the hotel is, and the staff isn't exactly helpful to get you cab!

if you consider the 5 stars to be a bit too expensive, and las palmas and similar hotels to be too cheap, the g hotel is the perfect compromise!

web site: http://www.g-hotel.com.ph/

that goes without saying the hotel is girl friendly. when the girl leaves, they always call to check that "everything was ok with your guest! " but it's done in a delicate manner!

That or leaving the kids something. And to be honest I do not feel comfortable around the elite educated or rich in any country. I am a construction worker. And have traveled for work. Was a ruff neck on an oil rig and a sword fisherman before. The elite have rights. But I like to bring hot young things with me. And do not care for the looks or attitude in Fancy places. Or when I go to church.

I stayed at City Garden. I liked it alot. Stayed at holiday inn when the inlaws where in town. When they left so did I. They do think of themselfs as the elite. So, does my sister.

Only a fool would criticize a man who spends judiciously whether they can afford to live lavish or not is irrelevant.

I have read stories about Billionaires such as Warren Buffett and Larry Hilblom (a notorious monger I might add) who lived very frugally. I doubt a great portion or if any members of this board are billionaires.

The latter part of my post was nothing more but a flame. An indirect flame but a flame no less. I have searched and RTFF, but I still feel the need to ask if anyone can recommend a good weekly condo or suite hotel in Manila. I've spent a few nights at the Pan Pacific, which I enjoyed. But staying for a week this May, I don't want to pay $150+ per night, and I'd prefer more of a condo / apartment type place.

My preferences are:

I would recommend the Somerset chain. They have three. Calle olympia, salcedo and millenium. The olympia is a dump, the other two are nice and have great locations. Prices are excellent, rooms are large, have kitchenette and everything else you are seeking!

Just google somerset. Prices should run 60-80 dollars per night.

Its on a dark side-street, few taxi's, you have to walk 1/2 block to Pedro Gil St. at night and it might be a while till you get a taxi. It can even take the doorman a long time to get you a taxi at night. P2200 for studio, 2800 for full suite with kitchen. Fair breakfast. Great pool. Its an apartelle, locals live there.

I have stayed many times at the Westin (now Sofitel) and after 10 or 11pm they put a table near the elevator where they will register all guests that you bring to the hotel.
However, I am not sure if they have the same policy as Sofitel as before, since I brought my guests in the afternoon/early evenings.

Have been stranded in Europe due to the volcanic ashes from Iceland for a week, and hope to be on board a flight to Manila this Thursday.

I had to cancel my original hotel-booking (costing me one night stay).

Now - I do not want to book a hotel before I am leaving, in case the flight from AMS to MNA will be cancelled while on my way from Scandinavia to AMS.

So - my question is where can I find a reasonable drop-in-rate hotel that will not charge too much for a night or two while I book my hotel for the rest of my stay. I am talking about Malate, ofcourse :)

Since G-hotel is "my" place, I can pay max. usd.100 (double room, incl. of breakfast and all taxes)

I arrived early friday morning and had to try out 5 hotels before I landed in the 6th, Eurotel where I could get a room immediately. Had to pay php160 per hour since wanted to check-in right away, not at 1pm. So, I guess this is another confirmation on that short time is available here.

It was a max 2-star hotel, no room-safe or other amenities. But room-service was OK. I paid about php 2700 a night.

3 nights there, 3 ladies.
One was my regular massage-lady and she warned me about keeping things locked up, since she had learned from others that valuables had a tendency to disappear.

Will report more when time... still have a whole week to look forward to here.

More like living life to the full in a variety of locations, taking numerous girls from one country to another and having a balll doing so, not to mention a few annual vacations in some of the more diverse spots of the world, plus increasing the real estate portfolio as we go.

That probably describes a few of us. Me included.

Choice of hotel vs price. None of these are relevant to me. Access to and from the place with my vehicle most certainly are.

Keep flaming away kiddo. A sweet young lady I recently met described young men who are always telling her how wealthy they are as " all flash no cash". Sounds about right don't you think.

Hello,

I will be traveling to Manila this July and was looking for a good hotel for an affordable price. Also if there are any hotels that have a massage service available with some cuties.

Maybe you should do a bit of a search on here first too and see what other guys say? There are heaps of threads about places to stay.
Manila is a very big city.
What is a good hotel for you? What does it need to be rated "good"?
What is YOUR affordable price? $ 20 - 50 - 100- 150, and for how long?
Most hotels have massage services, either in-house or will get them in for you.

You have to be more specific than this if you need any help. Seems like you are an inexperienced traveller.

I am not sure about the rating, just want it to be close to maybe some nice bars and in a pretty safe location. Someone told me near the US Embassy it is pretty safe. I found the CityState tower, but after looking up information on it via Google, some people say it is run down and not worth it. I will be staying in the Philippines about 9 nights. I might travel to Cebu for a few days though in between.

Hello,

I will be traveling to Manila this July and was looking for a good hotel for an affordable price. I am basically looking for a hotel that will let me take girls in without question, but with the most reasonable rate possible. Also if there are any hotels that have a massage service available with some cuties.

Thanks

What part of Manila? And what do you consider affordable?

Well I am flying in to Manila, this will be my first experience to any Asian country. Not really sure what part of Manila but from what I read on some posts might stay close to the LA Cafe, unless you can suggest another nice club to hang out at pretty much everyday. I am coming off the airplane and not sure what happens from there. Trying to make that plan now. I am not too worried about the rating as long as they don't steal from the room, just want a safe hotel for maybe about 40-70 US dollars a night. I will be staying for 9 nights although I may take a trip to Cebu for a couple nights during my stay.

If you can recommend an area to stay in hey that will be great.

Thank you for the reply Red Kilt and Blackangst!

Going rate should be about $25-$35, depending on the time of the year. No internet, but there are internet cafes near by. The guards are so cool and friendly. They'll teach you anything you want to know. They'll also fetch the taxis for you. It's at the corner of J.Nakpil and M.Adriatico. That's only 3 blocks down and 2 blocks over from LA Cafe.

The next hotel I recommend is City Garden Suites in Manila. About $60 per night. It feels very private once inside. Don't board a taxi at the front of this hotel, as they'll surely rip you off. I recommend walking half a block and catching a taxi.

If you want to monger, then forget Cebu and head out to AC.

If you're not used to third-world countries, you should stay in Makati. You'll feel much more at home. The place to hang out would be Cafe Havana.

***

After getting off the plane, change a little bit of money into peso. There are authorized taxi stands that will take you to your hotel. You pay money upfront. Expect it to be overpriced, costing about $8 to $12 different areas. You don't really have much of a choice.

Afterwards, go look for a money changer with better rates. There's a western union and money changer just half a block away from Adriatico Arms (from an ally on Adriatico street). They provide decent rates.

Happy Hunting!

The other hotel I recommended was "City Garden Suites" in Manila. There is also a City Garden in Makati, near Burgos, corner street Kalayaan Ave and Makati Ave. There is also a Best western just a block away. There are also similar hotels nearby. Burgos is another mongering area. However, it is relatively expensive compared to other places.

After going through immigration and getting your bags, and before exiting the terminal, ask somebody where you can change some money. Change $200.00 and walk out and either get in a metered cab or a ticketed cab. Ticketed cabs are more expensive but in my opinionn, safer. Tell cabbie where you are going. Its that easy.

I strongly recommend having reservations in advance, otherwise you might be in a strange city looking for a hotel. LA is not a "nice place" but you will find what you are looking for there. Plenty of hotels in your range in the immediate area.

You will have to learn to harden up fast in the Philippines mate.
As soon as you walk out the terminal doors the leeches will be on to you and you will be like a lamb to the slaughter if you bring the "deer in the headlights - first trip to Asia" look with you.
Read every post here on Manila, LAC, etc and digest it well, and walk as though you know what you are doing. Don't tell anyone it is your first trip until you know the person and sense you can trust them to help you

Believe me - all the tourist touts love a newbie and so make sure you are "well-armed" (with information) to fend them off.

Thank you for the reply Red Kilt and Blackangst! My first time to Manila, I didn't stroll to far away from anything. They are correct to exchange money at the airport. I actually exchanged money at my hometown airport because I was arriving around midnight and wasn't sure if I would find anyplace open. Since my arrival was late, I was lucky I took the bad exchange rate at home for $200 just to get started.

I would suggest walking straight outside and going to the metered taxis to your left for your first time out of the airport.

I stayed at the Executive Plaza hotel for my first time and I would suggest it to many first-timers. It's not the best but good value for the money. Find it on agoda and get a decent rate. It's very close to Robinson mall (not even a 5minute walk) and there's a 7-11 directly next door. If you like gambling the casino is directly across the street as well. Ask a taxi to turn on the meter or offer 40-50 pesos to take you to LA Cafe from Executive plaza. Don't pay 200P like I did the first time! Internet is expensive at Executive though. Buy a big water jug at the 7-11 and snacks there. You will drink all of it! I suggest asking the hotel to remove the minibar. I've had about 3 hotels say I ate and drank off of it when I didn't and still paid about 200-500 each time. The Robinson mall around the corner is a good place to relax, shop, and eat for a first timer. Don't get the breakfast at Executive, it's not worth the price.

I would honestly suggest checking out of executive after a few days and taking "fly the bus" or "southern cross" shuttles to Angeles for a couple days. Find a good hotel on the main strip and you can't go wrong there either. Look them both up on the internet. I think it's about 700ish pesos each way, but Angeles is at least worth a look at least once.

Just a thought, but stay at executive, fly to cebu, then fly directly to Clark airport. Then you can save the travel time on the bus. In Manila, they have all taxi (cars). In Angeles, it's mostly trikes (motorcycles with sidecars). Always set the price before you travel anywhere with them.

There's a picture of the very first woman I ever got from LaCafe. I think she's still my favorite one. I wish you luck in finding the one you want there.

The best thing you could do is keep reading the forum, go back 20 pages at least, and keep going. There's tons of good info, good opinions and bad opinions in there.

I would love to hear about your info on Cebu. I canceled my cebu flight last time and I'm going for the first time myself this fall. I would hope that someone could share which hotels are very close to all the action in Cebu as well, and a beach?

I recommend agoda.com for searching hotels. The areas of Manila to search would be Ermita and Malate if you're interested in LA Cafe. LA Cafe is in easy walking distance of some decent hotels like Exec Plaza, etc. Agoda will show you a map with the hotel location; if you click on this map, you'll get a bigger map with other hotels besides yours. If you find something you like in Agoda, you can then search this thread for reports on that hotel. When you've done that and still have questions, you can come back here.

I'm considering staying in the Monumento area in Caloocan City in a future two-week stay. I potentially have business in both the South of Manila City proper and in Quezon City, so access to LRT and EDSA are helpful. Also, the current main squeeze lives nearby.

My favorite folks at Agoda have no listings for Caloocan City or Malabon, but scoping out Monumento from Google Earth shows a Kabayan Hotel and two Sogos nearby. So I've done my RTFF duty for posts in the last year. One or two comments on Kabayan Hotel in Pasay (budget place near the Heritage and EDSA entertainment complex), but nothing on their Caloocan location.

Regarding Sogo, the comments run from contempt to others who describe them as "comfortable." So if anybody can help me out with a few details, I'd be obliged.

For anybody who has used any of the Kabayan hotels, what are internet services like and can I expect them to take major credit cards? Also, what are they like generally?

Regarding Sogo -- at any location -- do they have internet? How do they compare comfort-wise to Eurotel? Is it actually possible to make reservations? (The website gives phone numbers for each location but no way to reserve, no prices, and generally no details.) So any information, including trashing them, is appreciated.

Thanks, Skip

Dont stay out near Monumento. There is nothing of any value (accommodation wise) at the end of the line (MRT).
I would stay more in QC central (around QC Blvd). Plenty of decent hotels around there (see a thread here).

Re SOGO. It is very much a "local" brand but I think it is good for short-time or overnight stops.

Re Kabayan brand. The one in Pasay is managed by a "religious" person and they cater mainly to OFWs staying over after arriving from O/S or getting ready to depart. They are OK with foreigners with wives or permanent partners - I believe they frown on foreigners with a different "wife" every night LOL. It might just be the Pasay branch, but it also might be the chain policy (ie family hotels and not short-time places).
I stand to be corrected but this is my brief take on your request.

For sure Executive and City are. Question, are you trying to be in Malate/Ermita area? If so, I think the City hotel in that area is City State. City Garden is in the Burgos/Makati area.

Hi Skip,

I personally would not wish to stay at any branch of Sogo, that I have visited, for more than a few hours. However, I do know that many branches do reserve a few better appointed rooms for their longer staying guests and that these rooms (called executive rooms, I believe) are livable for a few days. But, as with Eurotel rooms, they are fairly basic and are usually dark and windowless. If I had to choose between the two, I would opt for Eurotel every time as their rooms are (usually) cleaner, larger and more comfortable.

The Kabayan in Pasay is quite expensive for what is on offer and most of the rooms are also windowless. I also have heard that they style themselve as a OFW choice and so are not particulaly GF. Didn’t realize that they have a branch in Caloocan.

QC offers more choices in terms of budget options and is fairly close to northern Caloocan City. It is also convenient for the MRT and LRT2 and has good night life options along Quezon Avenue and Timog. I personally would stay there in preference to Caloocan.

MastorrP. Burgos street is in Makati. Makati is more upscale than Ermita. It is home to the girlie bars with barfine. Lots of girls dancing on a stage in bikini. Typical barfine is p3000 ($95). From reading this forum, and in sitting in these bars and chatting up gents and girls who are there, the girls get huge tips, from p1000 to 3000. The bars vary in the % of the tip they give the girl, typically she gets half of the barfine later. Its about the most you will pay for fun. Walking outside of these bars on Burgos street are oodles of street girls (careful, ladyboy's abound, and can be the best looking girls), who can be had ST for p1000-1200 and LT for P1500-2000.

Also in Makati is the Greenbelt Mall. Cafe Havana next to the Starbucks is a freelance place with the nicer-dressed crowd (also a good mojito). Tell the taxi driver "Greenbelt Three". Expect to pay approx p2000 for a gal to head out of there with you. Also, there are a mix of regular ladies and working girls there: careful what you say to whom.

In Ermita/Malate are several places for play. The EDSA complex. G-Point bar. LA Cafe. All are freelance joints. These gals can be had for p1500-2000 LT. Negotiate up-front, or don't blame anyone but yourself if you get dissapointed. In Malate is Bedrock Cafe, wonderful live bands most nights. Not so much good for pickup, but a good place to take your gal. Across the street from Bedrock is another Cafe Havana. Also in Malate if you are gringo and have a cup of coffee or stroll thru either Robinson's or Harrison Malls in the afternoon, you will find young ladies (nursing students at the nearby university) who are eager to spend an hour (or 3) in your room for 'massage' for a quick p1000. Often they do the approaching.

Enjoy Manila.

Not sure when you are going, but read the threads here on Manila which is Ermita and Malate area with LA Cafe located there. For Burgos and Greenbelt with Havana Cafe there, that is in Makati and there is a thread here for that also. EDSA is in an area that you probably won't stay in, but realize in all these three areas, you can taxi between them pretty cheaply. At late night it's relatively quick, but it can take awhile during commute times. There are malls everywhere.

You should read up on what you want and what's your budget to play with. Then maybe more people will be able to help you. If you want something easy, then you go down to Angeles and break your cherry there first and that's a whole different scene than in Manila/Makati areas.

Of course I'll go to AC. My idea is to combine several days between Manila, AC and some relaxing beach, Boracay, Puerto Galera. etc.

To calculate the budget would need to know the average price of ST and LT and BF in gogo's except in LA Cafe because is plenty of freelancers.

As I read I am a little confused because in a previous post talking about expensive barfine price and I don't know if this price is including the girl, except the tip.

I usually go to Thailand and barfine is for the club or bar and the price is negotiable with the girl.

Anyway my budget to play is around 4000 Pesos for LT.

Thanks for the review of Sogo. I will stay away. I know the QC locale well and especially the transportation corridors. My problem is that I expect to have business both in QC and at the southern edge of Manila near the Pasay City line. Travel between the two usually means a taxi down Quezon Avenue and Espana, then waiting in long, long lines of traffic to get past Quiapo, across the Pasig River, and past Rizal Park and so on. At some times of day cab drivers do not want to take this fare. The problem with getting by light rail from Quezon City to South Manila is that a person needs to ride all three -- MRT to Cubao, LRT2 to Recto/Quiapo, and LRT1 to South Manila. The connection times and waiting lines in Cubao and Quiapo can be very long, assuming you can even get on the train. So in my experience the quickest travel between QC and anywhere in South Manila or Pasay is to travel on EDSA from QC to Monumento (taxi, bus, or jeepney) and then catch LRT1 south. The reason this works is that the LRT starts at Monumento, so getting on and getting a seat is never a problem. You ride the light rails enough to know how much faster they are than taxis -- except for connections between lines and jam-packed cars at the stations near the middle of each line. I suppose I could try MRT from QC to Taft and then LRT1 North from there.

In any event, my squeeze is checking prices, room sizes, and WiFi at Kabayan in Caloocan. If there's nothing compelling there I will settle again for Eurotel at SM North.

Eurotel may be a little cheaper, and it is newer. But as I recall Cherry Blossom rooms have at least a refrigerator and some may also have a stove. For a family this might be a nice feature that helps hold down food costs. Eurotel has a complimentary breakfast, sort of an all-you-can-eat buffet, with quite a bit of variety, but appearance of the food leaves a little to be desired. Don't know if it still does, but Cherry Blossoms had a set meal complimentary breakfast. Quantities weren't great but appearance and taste were, as was the atmosphere. Cherry Blossoms is about two blocks closer to the Embassy if you will be walking. You'll find it an easy walk, children may not. Another option for a family is Boulevard Mansion. It is quite rundown, but as I recall all rooms have kitchenettes and pots and pans. It is also only about two blocks from the embassy, and most rooms have a view out over Manila Bay. But other mongers will probably pile on here in terms of its rundown character. No complimentary breakfast at Boulevard.

Both Eurotel and Boulevard Mansion are probably offered through Agoda.com. For Cherry Blossoms you have to go to their own website, but it does show lots of details.

You can easily go to LA Cafe to check out the scene, but I wouldn't plan on taking any action back to the hotel room. Since you'll be within walking distance of the embassy you run a good chance of getting caught with your pants down. Also, although all these places are girl friendly, since your wife is Pinay, I'd be concerned that somebody might say something to her about "the other Mrs. Bang Bang who went up to the room with your husband while you were out."

Its in Malate/Ermita area, a hub of activity. 20 minute taxi ride to the airport early in the morning, and 5-10 minutes taxi to LA Cafe or G-Point Cafe for the freelancers. Very nearby a short walk is Robinson's Place Mall Malate.

Gentlemen, Two of us will be in Manila for one night coming back from Angles City in September. We are looking for a hotel that is within a resonable distance for a early morning flight out, yet is close to some action. It will be our first time in Manila. We have checked out Executive Plaza and it sounds OK.. Not knowing the city are we on the right track or should we consider another place near some of the other areas. thanks for any recomindations

I think that's fine. You can still hit a bit of traffic going to the airport but it's not that far and it all works out. LA Cafe is like 2-4 minute walk depending, but just know a lot of beggars, and lady boys and whatever around. Think it's better to avoid sidewalks in the dark, just walk on the street.

Executive Plaza is fine if you guys have never been in Ermita. Walking on the street when possible is very good advice as its far less likely that somebody will walk out there to molest you. In many instances you will be forced to walk in the street as the sidewalk is either partially blocked or you see others on the sidewalk that you do not want to encounter.

Don't talk to anybody on the street. Ignore them. Wear sunglasses during the day so they can't see where you are looking. All of that said, I walked around Malate and Ermita last night without a problem and will do that again tonight. Don't get so drunk that your radar goes off.

Last night the area around LA Cafe was a circus. I saw potential problems and avoided it.

Spent three nights in the BSA Towers across from the entrance to Greenbelt 5 on Lagaspi Rd. I got a $90 rate for a "suite" off the web page. It has a great location if you want to go to Havana Cafe, but that is about it. I think it is more like a serviced apartment building. The rooms were large, clean, but sparce. While the internet worked good, they did charge extra for it.
They bring breakfast, but it wasn't worth it. I most likely won't go back unless I can get a better price. The problem for me is I really like that location, but can't consistently find a good hotel in the area. It seems like everything is about $100/night.

AIM stands for Asian Institute of Management. This is an institution of "higher" education focused on management and business, mostly for so-called mid-career or executive type "learners." It was initially a joint initiative of the two most prestigious Catholic universities in Metro Manila, Ateneo and de La Salle. In general the hotel was set up for these executive students who come from around Asia for their workshops. It sounds like they are finding some new ways to make ends meet, as rumor has it that business has not been kind to them lately. Considering who the students are, there are some ingredients suggesting they might be GF, but considering their Catholic institutional baggage, they also have some old fashioned reasons for keeping up appearances.

Lots of good advice about Executive Plaza and its easy walking access to LA Cafe and probably 30 minute drive to the airport. There are several passable hotels in the same general area.

But here's another option: plan to do your mongering at the EDSA Entertainment Complex. This is at the intersection of Harrison and EDSA, which puts it no more than 10 minutes by cab from the airport. The Heritage, a little more expensive than the Ermita area monger hotels, is on EDSA right across the street from the Entertainment complex. Do your own forum read for details for the EDSA complex, but generally you have half a dozen clubs under one roof. They do charge barfine, they push lady drinks, and the girls expect to be paid over and above the barfine. But the selectlon is definitely better than at LA Cafe, although the price isn't. LA has all freelancers, so there 's no barfine.

As to hotels, use Agoda.com to search. When you get to the Manila page, select the region within the metro area and see what's available. Remember that LA Cafe is actually in Ermita, so there are a number of hotels that show up under Ermita in the region sorter. Then look in Malate region. Executive Plaza, Las Palmas, Eurotel Pedro Gil and various other hotels show up in this region. but they are only just barely in Malate, and many of the Malate hotels are actually quite a distance from LA. If you get around to searching for something near the EDSA complex, you need to search in Pasay City. Once you find the Heritage Hotel, check out others that are nearby. Kabayan Pasay is close to Heritage and cheaper, but others on the forum indicate it is not GF.

I've been thinking about the Oasis Hotel at Paco Park. X-Man has reported on this place a couple years ago, and there is generally no recent news, probably because it isn't particularly convenient to any of the mongering holes. But I may be in Manila with a steady squeeze in late July, so being able to get to the clubs is not high on the priority list. Its website makes it look passable -- of course, they all do -- and the neighborhood looks okay as well. It does have a swimming pool and they hint at internet but don't get very specific. Has anybody stayed there recently? I am interested to know about cleanliness, the pool, and internet. Thanks guys. Skip

The dancers get there at 4pm? I am thinking more 8 or 9pm is the time to go in reality. But on a Sunday, not sure what kind of attendance rate you'll see but at same time, probably not a lot of punters either.

It allows you to have a quiet beer, watch the gals come in their street clothes, do their chitter chatter with mates, then start dancing. Beers are cold and no one will bother you till at least 6 when the early Japanese seem to visit. If you like watching day turn to night, its a nice place to relax. Before the hornomes kick in and you start taking a more serious interest in your surroundings, and wonder whther you can kick start the motor again.

If thats not your thing, then arriving at 8pm is also fine!

Hey guys,

Need a big favor, my wife(Pinay) and I are going to Manila in June. We are going to see her son, do his medical exam, and intervue at the embassy. Hopefully if all goes well he will get to join his 2 little brothers here in the states, now I know I may get roasted for this, but I really respect your giys opinions, what are some more affordable "family" hotels, or inns, even pension houses near the US Embassy? My wife was looking at cherry blossom on j bocobo st, and Mabini pension. 1337 mabini st ermita manila. Hopefully you guys can help me out, cause I'm hoping to slip away during the interview process to check out the scene LOL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!City State hotel is a lot more appropriate for a family & in the same area.

I went there last week to check this place out also. You are right on the money it is an average hotel with a price that is toooo high.

For the same money you can stay at one of the Somerset hotels and it is much nicer. The Somerset millenium is kind of a dump but it is easily as nice as the BSA and for less money.

Except a few well maintained places, the temporary tenants end up creating breeding grounds for roaches.

As for cleanliness and fresh sheets/towels - they were on the ball at every apartment style residence I stayed.

Respected PI mongers....

I will be in Manila next month, but due to some urgent personal/family reasons, I have to stay close to las Pinas for most of my time there.

I need to stay in a hotel, but hopefully.. a clean pace with wi-fi and a decent breakfast.

Will need to stay a week so a windowless Euortel type room might get too prison like on my current mission.

Any recommendations guys?

Price is not a factor since it will be a short stay. Just want something comfortable and clean where I can catch up with work if I have to.

Will return the favour if you old hands ever venture to Dubai.

Much appreciated!

Hi mate. Afraid that there is not much in the way of decent hotels in Las Pinas itself. Eurotel is probably the best choice. You could always go for one of their Executive Rooms and ask for one with a window (I believe that there are some). Good thing about the Eurotel is its position on Alabang/Zapote Road, almost opposite Southmall. Bad thing is that this road is one of the most traffic clogged roads in Manila, particularly at rush hour (which is most of the day:)) so you have to give plenty of time when planning for meetings, assignations etc.

Very close to Las Pinas and much more upmarket is Alabang. Off the top of Alabang/Zapote Road and close to a very nice garden mall called Alabang Town Centre is the Vivere. Never stayed there so cannot report but it appears to be a nice hotel. You can check it out at http://viveresuites.com/accommodations.asp.

Hope this helps a little.

I drove by a new hotel last night. It is called the St Giles. It is right in the heart of Makati and appears to be at least a 4 star but maybe a 5 star.

I looked them up on the web and they have rates as low as $57 and $72 per night.

My guess is that these are promo rates since the place just opened July 1. If you are coming to manila soon I would cancel my reservation and stay at this place.

The hotel is brand new, and I was the first that stayed in the room and broke in the bead.

I didn't have time to check out the facilities so I can't comment on anything other then the room and the reception desk. Room service was limited, and the were not able to exchange USD at reception (there is an exchange office across the street though). They are obviously still setting up. There was some (little) noise thought the day they are obviously going though the final touches.

Overall good value for money, great location, new hotel. WORTH THE $$$

Hey gents,

Thanks for all the info on this forum. It's certainly a wealth of knowledge and experience that's helped me start to plan my whirlwind trip to the Phil this September.

The situation that I'm hoping you can help me out with is as follows:

I'm flying in to Manila from Seoul on Cebu Pacific late on a Saturday evening (midnight Saturday / 1am Sunday). Hoping to catch an early "Fly the Bus" from the Swagman up to Angeles, but don't really want to spend the entire night at the Swagman as I'm hoping on hitting up the EDSA complex as soon as I get into town and finding some short-time company.

I know there's a SOGO right by EDSA / Harrison, but I can't seem to find a way to book it online ahead of time. I've also found some reports suggesting the Copacabana in that areas, but I think they charge $50 for the night.

Basically I'm looking for a place that I can rent for about 7. 8 hours at a reasonable price, my only intention being to keep my backpack there (so a place with a safe would be spectacular) and to bring my short-time company with me somewhere for an hour or so. Reserving ahead of time would be very helpful as I don't want to run into any trouble when I arrive late at night in a city I've never visited before.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Apologies if I've broken any forum posting rules. I believe this is my 2nd post or something like that.

I don't know if there is an early AM Fly the Bus...I'm under the impression that the earliest bus leaves at 10:30 or 11:30, and even if you leave early for Angeles, your room might not be ready until early afternoon. Anyway, I doubt you'll have much trouble getting a short-time room at a SOGO in Manila when you walk up, especially this time of year.

Very GF and easy to take more than 2 to the room as I have done on a few occasions :D.

Why not try the Dusit as I now stay there and not the InterCon (even though I have a lot of points to use) as a better hotel IMHO and price wise on the discount hotel sites it is / or has been cheaper than the InterCon.

And I can confirm that the Dusit allows as many girls in your room as you like :). Lovely times :)

Honor System: I am claiming a record here. I had 11 women in my suite at Dusit. It was part 2 of one of a girls Birthday party.

WR will be ashamed of me. But nothing happened. But I had fun, made a lot of friends, scored lots of points, and enjoyed the looks from others when I took 4 for breakfast.

Sigh: now I have the usual nonsense: asking to "borrow " money. X4

I sent one money for a passport – except she spent or before the passport appointment. SO. No trip darling bye bye. They don't learn What is wrong with them?

I have a better question: what the heck is wrong with me! (FOOL!)
LOL

Was smiling all over my face.

11 girls and not one shag....well that is a record RB :)

As for the apssport girl...nothing surprises me at all...long term for many pinays (due to their living conditions etc) is today.

The only problem you face is as you noted...multiple requestes for small change...after a while will get annoying trust me

My good mate in the UAE JSBach once suggested a different room rating called WR stars...based on how many girls you can get into the bed and shag in the same session(s) or day at the same time.. So far the Sheraton Creek Dubai has the highest wkth 4 WR stars(with special star as all bisexual-was a fun afternoon) though a few others in the UAE are 3 WR stars. Dusit is unfortunately only 3 WR stars so far :(

Now 11 stars...that would be awesome LOL

Have fun and watch the small requests for pasalubongs

Are you still carving notches in the bed posts at the Dusit to tally your cumulative score? I did have a complaint about you from the Duty Manager when I was there a week or so ago, asking me to tell you to cut it out as it's costing them a fortune, and you're making the other customers jealous. He also told me the hotel is accelerating its depreciation schedule on the bedding in the rooms you occupy when there. Apparently, after you've left, the beds aren't good for much.

I have a 4 day business trip coming up to Manila and my company is paying the way for everything except the girls. They prefer I book with US hotel chains, so I was given the choice of the Hyatt, Pan Pacific, Renaissance and Marriott.

The Marriott is right next to the airport and doesn't look like a good location. But the others are all candidates. I could stay at another hotel too, I just have to tell the travel agent. Within reason the cost isn't that much of an issue.

Since the room is paid for, my primary concerns are getting a hotel that is girl friendly and one that is near the action. Since it's my first time I'd prefer to not have to travel a long way between the bars and my room.

I have read through the posts but I'm still trying to get orientated with Manila since it's my first time there, although I have made very many trips to Asia.

Any help is well appreciated.

Thanks. Pablo

I was several time at Shangri la for my work, and this hotel has a good location close to malls, La havana, bar etc.

The service is very good.

And no problem to bring girl in your room.

I undestood that you prefer american hotel, but I think that this hotel is the best of Manila.

All the hotels mentioned are girl friendly. I guess it depends what level of mongering you are looking to do. Of the group I would suggest the Renaissance which is accross the road from Havana Cafe and also in the street that has a a few massage parlours. It is in the more up market part of Manila (Makati) and has many nice restaurants and good more up market shops around. Out of peak it is a 10 minute taxi ride to Burgos Street if you are wanting that style (RTFF). It is however at least half an hour depending on traffic from EDSA Entertainment and a little more to Amazonia or G Point. If these latter places are your style then certainly Pan Pacific or Hyatt is more convenient. If you are entertaining business wise at your hotel I certainly would stick to the Renaissance. The Hyatt is also a casino if that's your thing but the neighbourhood around it and the Pan Pacific is very much low scale.

Hope this helps. Have a good trip and don't forget to post your exploits.

There is no reason to stay in the part of town you are looking at. Most all foreigners in your situation stay in Makati only. I would recommend any of the following: Shangri La, Peninsula, Dusit, Intercontinental. These are all 4-5 star.

The only reason anyone ever stays in the area you are looking at (called Malate) is because LA Cafe is there. Now that it is closed that area of town can become the third world shit hole that it has always been.

Can anyone give me a reasonable explanation why they feel it is necessary to stay in malate? I get it that LA Cafe is there. But so what, you can ride in a taxi for an hour for $4 why not stay in a nice clean area like Makati and take a taxi to the action?

Anyway, the hotels in Malate are fuelled by local tourists, and foreigners make a minute percentage of that, considering that most government establishment are in MANILA, not MAKATI. So the notion that without LAC no Malate is a bit way out. (my 2 cents opinion.)

But if you are a foreigner yeah, Makati is the best, considering the place being safe, and organised. But then again, do take note Makati also does have it's sleazy corners. Like the places off P Burgos. And Kalayaan.

Also there are two big malls (Robinsons & Harrisons) very close by where one can meet straight girls/freelancers or just eat/shop. There are ton's of cafe's/Restaraunt's/Bar's. Its right on the bay where you can visit Ocean Park Aquarium or stroll the boardwalk taking in the lively stalls. Its close to the embassy & also Philippine government offices such as Philippine Immigration.

Its not such a bad area if you get to know it & have common bloody sense.

Makati/Burgos also have their attractions I grant you.

Unlike Makati, Malate is a happening area. Not only because of LA cafe. There are casinoes, all sorts of restaurents and street foods. Many restaurents do not close till 2 am or so. You alone or with a girl can walk along baywalk, go to Robinson mall , eat cheap food at the food court etc. Yes, there are many medium priced hotels with no hassles to bring a girl in.
Transportation from Malate to Ac or airport is easy. Even for a newbie if he keeps baywalk as a reference point will not get lost in the area. Makati is very confusing.

Hey guys, I am finally pulling the trigger and will be in the phil. in September. I have read a lot in this section and researched a lot about the different cities. I will be going to a few of the cities and reporting back at the end of my trip. I will be in Manila for about 3 days before heading to cebu.

I need like a ground zero type of place to stay in. I was thinking to stay at Ascott Makati Glorietta 4 because it is connected to the mall Ayala Center. Just for the convenience of being able to meet all the internet chicks I met on the web in rapid pace without doing a lot of back and forth taxi ride between a mall and my hotel.

Since I know some girls will show, some won’t, and some might be hard to get rid of so I felt convenience to the mall may save me a lot of time. Secondly, is the Ascott Makati pretty close to places like Havana Cafe, or LA Cafe, or EDSA? Please provide your thoughts and recommendation. Thanks

So. From Glorietta / Ascott. You can just breeze into Havana

As for LA Cafe? It is / was / will be. In Malate. Which is like 20 minutes to two hours depending upon the traffic

Anyway, do some look up on Edsa.

But if you are smooth-talking, cool-walking guy. Then you will have your hands full chatting up girls around your place of residence itself and the Greenbelt Malls. I guess.

ET did a good reply but am sure I saw/read a FR about the Ascott asking for girl's passport....not sure but would be worth a RTFF on this one. If it is true and this puts you off the hotel, then stay Dusit as likely better price than New World (opposite Greenbelt 3 entrance to Havana), InterCon, SLa etc.

Dusit et al are close walking distance (well for me) unless it pours with rain

Thanks guys for all the great advice. I'm not the decision maker on where we stay but I'm pushing for Makati now. Our business is in central Manila though so we might end up in Malate anyway.

I really need to go back and map these places out so I can better understand the geography.

Again, thank you for the advice and tips.

But, LA Cafe or no LA Cafe, its more vibrant. You can't walk in the second floor of Harrison's Plaza Mall without getting hit on by girls or their mamasans. Robinson's Mall on Adriatico/Pedro Gil is another great place to hang out in the afternoons and hunt nursing students (two universities within a block). Many great restraunts in the area. You can always taxi to Makati for Burgos or Havana Cafe. Regardless of La Cafe, plenty of other bars in the area to find honey - G Point, Cowboy Grill, Amazonia, etc. And also those barfine places on Mabini Avenue (that I don't like). In fact, any bar you can find women, you can usually find one who is interested in you. Almost forgot the EDSA complex.

Recently I was walking through Robinson's mall holding hands with 4 different girls at different times -- all in the same day. You are much more likely to find a p1500 LT in Malate than Makati. Hotels and restraunts are priced more moderately in Malate. That shit hole Malate has some advantages.

Beautiful hotel if you want proximity to Greenbelt 5 but bad if you need regular late night tea.The New World is the most "joiner insensitive" hotel I have stayed in Asia. Not only do you have to deal with the SS-trained security staff, but the front desk will make sure that the sign-in process for your guest is as public (right in front of the main counter) and painstaking (expect 10 minutes at least for them to handwrite every detail of your girl) as possible. I guess there are a lot of guys forced to stay there because of loyalty cards or corporate travel policy... some of them have developed tricks to get around it, but it is hit and miss. The rooms are a bit worn and the breakfast service is uninspiring, so I don't advocate the hotel for the hotel itself either.

If you want a totally guest friendly experience, go to Mandarin Oriental. Walk to Burgos. No more than $1 taxi to Greenbelt. My pimpette brings me sweet things from Malate and has never had an issue walking girls up to my room. Once the staff knows you, they quickly know your needs and cater to you like a king. That's the difference I expect, whether I'm at the Sheraton Grande in BKK, the LeMeridien in JKT or the Pan Pacific in SIN. Enjoy Manila, AsianRain

Two members in recent posts suggested that the late LA cafe was in Malate. Minor quibble, but I believe it is a few blocks north of Malate in the area called Ermita.

As for the different opinions about Ermita/Malate vs. Makati, I always preferred Ermita/Malate over Makati, especially when the Baywalk was thriving. Nowadays, I just fly direct to Cebu. X

The place has regular long term residents, and if with kids and what nots, it is a bit scary when you bring in 'friends' if during day time.

Evenings were quite, and don't get scared if you see a gang of uniformed guys sitting near the door - they are the drivers of the rich kids who have gone partying some place nearby. You can see the Expeditions and Land Cruisers nearby.

I will be makeing my frist trip to Manila in mid November and need some help choosing a hotel. I need it to be close to the action ay a price between $35-$70. The place I would like such come with a/c, wifi, in room safe and no problems letting me bring in two girls. If I have to pay a fee for the second that ok if its under 700 peso. My chooses are:

Hotel La Corona

City State

City Garden Suites

Hotel Kimberly

It hard to tell if these places are close to the action.

Executive Plaza

Pearl Lane

Pearl Garden

Tropicana Apt Hotel

It looks on the map like this is in the middle of the action.

If you could give me some info on any of them or something I miss I would appreciate it. Also I wold like to know if the Baywalk area is anything like Walking St in Pattaya because it looks like alot of woman hang out there.

When you mean close action, is it just general stuffs like malls, restaurants or the nightlife like gogo bars? Among the list you mentioned, Hotel La Corona, City Garden Suites, Hotel Kimberly, Pearl Lane and Pearl Garden hotels have in room safe.

Baywalk in Manila is more like Pattaya Beach road than Walking Street in Pattaya. P Burgos Street in Makati resembles more a Walking Street in Pattaya. P. Burgos street is where most of the gogo bars are located in Makati.

Thanks for the help.I often use City State. Not a sleazy place. No qualms about how many women you sleep (or not hehe) with, providing you act with decorum in the public areas & make sure to PAY for your extra guests. My record there was 4 girls at once, the bell hop showed up at the door to my suite with a single folding cot for the extra 4 guests, the girls & I looked at each other & burst into laughter at the absurdity of it. Ah memories..

Its really very bad form to expect to have extra guests stay in with you for free.

I always book & PAY for a double occupancy, so no arguments with me having a girl in bed with me. The fact that it is not the same girl is minor detail.

If I have more than one girl staying with me overnight I register them & PAY for them. Smiles all round.

Hotels around Ermita/Malate are cheaper than Makati. Lots of malls, resto's, kareoke, bar's & of course LA Cafe (closed) & Amazonia.

P.Burgos street in Makati has a lot of girly bars with tons of fine women for hire but be ware, its the most expensive in the PI followed closely by Cebu bar's AFAIK.

Thanks for the help.Have stayed at almost all of these. Have taken several up to the room in serial fashion (one at a time; one in the afternoon, another in the evening) and nobody said a word. Have had more than one girl spend the night, nobody said anything. I always get the room for two people. Sometimes I remembered to register and pay for the third person, sometimes I forgot. Always paid for the extra breakfast in the morning. Nobody at the hotels has ever said a word about paying for an 'extra' guest.

The Baywalk is dead, was disbanded two years ago by the mayor. Its not like walking in Pataya. Try a mall.

It is in Malate, not Makati.
It is a 5-star hotel that caters to the high end East Asian business people and tourists.
I am sure that the concierge will get you anything you want.
There is a great restaurant on the very top with a spectacular view.
Good Steaks
It is situated in a sort of "no-man's land" in that you need to go by taxi to anywhere outside.
If I was going to stay in that area in such surrounding, I would stay in Hyatt. There is the Casino (and all the high class FLs that brings) and Robinsons Mall nearby too. JMHO

I just got to Manila and checked into the Dusit. There's a lot of security so I was a bit worried. You have to pass through one door and they search you with the security wand and look thru bags when you enter. Lots of security in front of and in the lobby.

Last night I was almost ready to pack it in unaccompanied after a night in Burgos but ran into two girls and decided to go for it. I asked them if they would follow me 5 minutes later into the hotel so I gave them my room number. I knew the lobby would be sort of crowded and as a near 50 year old dude I didn't feel like strolling through with two 20-somethings with me on the way to my room.

2 minutes after I entered my room the phone rang and security asked if the 2 "guests" can come up and I said "yes". We had a good time and about 2 hours later they left. About 2 minutes after they departed hotel security called back and asked me if everything was OK and that my two guest were departing. Again I said "yes" and that was that. I like the extra security on departure.

Bottom Line: Dusit is girl friendly, but there's lots of lobby security.

Thanks again for the tips,
Pablo

Dusit is a great place, security is there for your own protection and is very relaxed. I always stay there and if you get the club rooms even better and the shower can easily take 3 gilrs ..and you naturally ;)

As for walking through the lobby with 2 girls, why not, enjoy, you are 50 so who cares? I, and many others, have done the same and some of us with 3 or more....Be a monger a be proud of it :D I am...LOL

I always make sure ahead of time that the hotel I plan to stay at is GF. Then there is no problem. Thank you ISG for providing this valuable info.

The walk of shame is in your mind so get rid of it! There are 2 types of people in this world: Those that enjoy sex for what it is and want it all the time with as many beautiful girls as possible, and those that are hung up about sex for various reasons.

IMO, the only reason to be embarrassed when walking through a hotel lobby is if the girl you are with is a total skank. But even then, it's nobody else’s business so wtf. A key lesson in life I have learned; is to do what you want to do and not give a damn what other people think about it.

Some of the girls I have been with over the years have been real stunners. I would love to see the reaction I would get if I were to go to my high school reunion with one or two 20 year old hotties by my side. It would be priceless.

I agree NB

I actually like the walk of shame ...for me to see some people's reaction is priceless especially the wives who mutter and whisper probably telling husband how disgraceful I am etc...and hubbie thinking "lucky bastard" :D

WTF is a good way to see it, I used to go my club in the UAE with a lovely one in a WW bikini...so small there barely any material...and was great to see the reaction. She loved it as well and walk up and down the beach at times showing her ass to all and sundry - especially if my mate Asian Flava was at the beach with his then girlfriend!! He would text me asking me to see if she could stop doing that :D

So enjoy it, makes me feel young as well and some of the girls also give the girls a jealous look

Good idea about the reunion, must remember that although a mate once turned up with a very young busty PRC at a work dinner only to be outdone by a colleague who appeared with an 18 year old pinay...he was well past 50. Lots of wives muttering, lots of husbands thinking "how can I change my current version " :)

JMHO

-Should still be good to go for bringing "guests", though right-? That extra security in that dustin hotel actually sounds pretty nice; more of the same in the Diamond?

Just reminds me of the time I stayed in a hotel cum english teaching school near Lapu Lapu. There were many students from Korea, china etc. I wanted a secluded place to stay with my GF from Leyte who was 18 but looked 15 and very pretty.
In the evening we used to go to the bar restaurent they had and we played pool with other students. Initially they were surprised why a young girl is with a older guy but my GF told them we are married. Once they got around initial suspicion the students were very friendly and we even went out with them to local bars.
Walk of shame is in your mind. Just do your thing and enjoy without causing any waves.

Well said Roger and others! I've done it a thousand times especially in Thailand so I don't know why I didn't want to that time. Part of it was the girls weren't that hot. not skanks by any means but not hotties.

Last night was different, I had a smoking hottie from EDSA Complex and she was dressed to kill in high leather boots and micro shorts barely covering her tiny perfect ass.

She just left my room after a 12+ hour marathon since 2AM last night (OK some sleep in there too!) with full photo access and everything.

I was thinking of going to go out to eat with her, but actually walking thru the mall with her was a bit different than a quick stroll thru the lobby. So I guess I'm not totally over the W.O.S. thing. I might go see her tonight again. I rarely repeat but she's definitely on the repeatable list!

I have stayed at both. Both are very good - actually I prefer the Diamond as a hotel because it's newer. Certainly both are girl friendly and both have good security that you would expect in hotels of this calibre. The difference is geography. Makati is a very much nicer part of town. Much better restaurants, bars and shopping. The Diamond is in Malate which is very low rent - and everything that goes with that. Unless you want the Malate/ Ermita area, notwithstanding what I think is the better hotel of the Diamond, the Dusit is fantasticlly located near everything that you might want when you are not entertaining in your room.

I find that one of the nicest parts of mongering in the Philippines is getting to know the girls. One can turn a business arrangemnet for them into a date by taking time to get to know them. So I like to take them for dinner or a quiet drink somewhere to find out something about them and them me before the deed is done - my experience is that I am much more likely to have a girlfriend for the night, than a rented body for a few hours - then of course sometimes that's all I want but I am never as satisfied as with a girlfriend for the night. Remember that most girls speak English and it can be fun flirting with them even though it's going to be a sure thing.

Malate has cheaper hotels than Makati & slummier streets. Its a big nighlife/entertainment district. Overall better value for most people unless you are on an unlimited expense account.

Oh yes, I myself have learned to not be shame. It's more embarrassing if you are trying to hide from it. But, if you don't give a rats ass what people think, then...the idea of feeling shame or embarrassed don't really register in your head. You are busy feeling happy, excited and enjoying yourself to be bothered by embarrassment.

If you're the type that's open, frank and candid on things, then you aren't really concerned about feeling ashamed or embarrassed.

Tried to book Adriatico arms but notice the prices have increased alot since last year. Also, haven't seen any web sites where you can book this place direct.

FZMalate pensionne. Has a little old world charm. Bonus : has a starbucks at the entrance.

Cheapest room - 4 bunk dorm room. Fan cooled only. Toilet/bathroom is shared.
Next cheapest - "Fan room" Double ie double bed, like a hotel room. (these rooms are clean but hot). Toilet/bathroom is shared, once again clean, not crowded.
Most expensive - Double with aircon. price is only barely below cheap hotel.
Can be had with shared toilet/bath or ensuite style for more money.

There are 3 or 4 pensionnes in close proximity on the same street, AA & MP are by far the nicest. The others would only suit locals or farangs down to their last peso.

I would highly recommend this place as well. IF it is now guest friendly.

Is it? The last time I visited they insisted I provide the name of my guest (who had not yet arrived. It's funny how that happens) This is one of only two places of accomodation that I've ever felt that bringing a naughty gal would NOT be allowed. Well, times change, and AV maybe have been there recently. I thought he was a high roller, but maybe he is checking out Malate pensions so that he can provide us with information. Thanks AV.

I'd also recommend checking the room. The one I looked at overlooked the lobby and would probably be noisy.

I do agree that it has charm, as AV suggests. And I really love this neighborhood. Malate on weekends is full of young people hitting the restaurants and bars. X

I've heard that this pension is NOT GF, but perhaps that has changed.

Not sure if you have misunderstood my original question as I was inquiring about the cheapest (but decent) and definitely GirlFriendly place near the action. And without the shared bathrooms with all the backpackers.

Just planning on going cheap this time in Manila with the accomodations and saving it for the beers and chicks and nitelife.

Figure go cheap 1st and the worst that can happen is check out and upgrade if it's really a bad place.

Have you looked at St Giles? i would recommend this as the best hotel in Makati right now. You can get in there for $57 if you book it online and it is right next door to Burgos Street. Brand new, it just opened July 1.

If you want Internet. You should check the Somerset Web site. Sometimes that option is cheaper than AsiaRooms, Agoda etc. Which do not include internet (remember taxes on the Somerset site not included).

Rooms average. Breakfasts. Kinda weird. Front desk staff. Stunned. Girl friendly (will call you when they leave). BUT Location works for me.

Fraser Place Manila, located in the heart of the Makati’s Central Business District, provides in-house guests with easy access to the banking and financial districts and business offices. X man,
Maybe you mean Maria Luisa in Dumaguete? It is one of the bigger pensions, and we hold a lot of large training workshops there.

I wouldn't suggest that anybody should take girls to Bethel Guest House. It is actually a very Christian-based hotel with the staff having bible-readings and singing a hymn before they start work each morning. There are signs around saying that unmarried couples are not welcome (or words to that effect) and no grog is allowed. I stayed there one night once (by mistake lol) and had a very chaste evening (instead of being chased as I would have preferred). I woke up to hymn singing and I thought I might have died and gone to heaven but when i realised I was in bed alone I soon came to my senses.

I think the major problem with having girls in a pension is the crappy beds.
They are usually the wire base plus thin cloth mattress (or the hard foam).
The beds rattle and squeak when you turn over in the night without adding in a hot pinay and plenty of horizontal action too.
Pensions are usually run by families or as small local businesses and the desk clerks, room maids and bumboys etc can be counted on to be tsismosas (gossips), so most local girls would probably be wary about being seen in and around a pension with a foreigner.
I haven't heard of any pensions anywhere across the Phils where they will exclude guests, especially if you have booked a double room.

I have stayed there twice now, and I think it's a great location! It's about 10 minutes walk to the Greenbelt complex of malls including Havana Cafe and Glorietta Mall. It's also very close to Mandarin Oriental and Peninsular Hotel!

Great apartments , one or two bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, huge bathroom and large tub for two! Also has a roof top pool and restaurant!

Both times I found Frazer Place to be very GF and the staff also very friendly.

Mabini Pension has never really been GF. Lot of backpackers stay there in their grotty dorms and also a few families. However its a good place if you are on a really tight budget although I would suggest Sogo for any action rather than bringing a girl back here where you are bound to feel many hostile eyes on you during your 'walk of shame'.

Jowards was over the street and down a bit towards Ermita and above a Chinese restaurant. It was definitely GF as they had a few staying there. I used to have a lot of fun there and remember a great boozy room party there one Easter when I had been stuck in Manila (I lived in the sticks then) and got together with a few like minded souls and some of the resident girls.

You could sit in your room and watch the ladyboys doing business across the road by the fire tenders.

Ahh - happy times.

Some of the pensions around Fuente Osmena circle in Cebu certainly appear to be open to guests.Ooops - I mentioned Rivera Mansion - Mabini street - sorry to have got my knickers in a knot.

jackAm not a big spender, but any hotel that goes for less than 1, 800 is my benchmark for 'please try to avoid' or 'take a look before booking'

Many years ago, I checked into a hotel at Pasay, at 1, 200, and then I realised that the place had a bed that was odd (and true, when I lifted the bedsheet, I saw bugs.) and there was a family of roaches. And ever since, I avoid hotels around that rate. And if I had no choice, I take a look-see first. (and a torch light helps to inspect the room.)

Need Consensus, I have a lot of Marriott Points, I can stay free there. But if this is way to out of the way from the action let me know. I hear Taxis are cheap? But would like to goto Malls, nice resturants, and meet the locals.

I'm not familiar with Philippines. First timer.

IN reading all the posts, I never hear about the Marriott.

And IS La Cafe closed in Malate (thats the impression I get from the posts)

I figure if I don't stay at the Marriott, I'll spend around 80 USD a nite for hotel. So if someone wants to reccommend one over the Marriott let me know.

Also. Need help with Hotel Reccomendations for AC PLease.

Thanks everyone a23.

Thanks everyone a23.Hey there AirJordan,

I have not stayed at the Marriott so i cant comment on it, but i can tell you the one i am thinking of is right next to the airport. It is fairly far from LA Cafe (Manila Bay Cafe) and Makati. Yes it is cheap to take a taxi anywhere in manila, however, the traffic jams they have there are some of the worst in the world....so you should make your own decision. if you are only in manila for 2-3 days and wont be travelling anywhere during daylight hours, the traffic probably wont bother you.

My recommendation for a hotel is the St Giles. it is in makati, it is nice, brand new and they are running a special for $57 per night...and it is close to all of the makati action.

If you are only in manila for 2-3 days and won't be travelling anywhere during daylight hours, the traffic probably won't bother you.The new Marriott/Resort World/Maxims complex is doing some very hard upmarket selling and promos at present and they are running some amazing special shows to attract punters.

Last week they had a "Boys Night Out" which featured 3 different groups of 21 of the hottest models/show business/singers in the Philippines (for those who know, Katrina Halili, Diana Meneses were two of them).

Lingerie parades and girls in the smallest bikinis imaginable (with G Strings) but still legit as far as the local law was concerned.

I think this complex might well become a classic meeting place. Already many of the former "Embassy crowd" are going there. If you stay at Marriott, I'd be interested in your in-house report. As was already said, you can get cheap taxis easily and by the time things heat up (9. 30pm) the traffic will be much easier to get to (say) EDSA Complex (closest to Marriott) or in to Burgos or Greenbelt in Makati.

Only real downside is that I got kicked out of two taxis in a row tonight in the rain because the drivers didn't know it even when I said it was right next door to City Garden.

FZOne word comes to mind when I stayed there briefly (one night only). The place is a dump. Old building in a grimmy street which seemed unsafe walking around. Room was old and beds were soggy feel to it, sheets were old and not really clean (smell clean but alot of old stains). Hear water dripping from sink all night. AC was old and noisy but otherwise seems to work and you need to pay extra if you want a TV in the room.

Don't know and don't want to know if place is GF as I checked out right away the next day for another cheap place. Sorry, I'm the king of cheap but it have to be at least decent for the price, but this place is way below standards, even for a cheap place.-----IMO

Try St Giles..seems to have good reviews

Oxford Suites maybe at that price range
Makati Palace (a good friend stays there and says is very nice better then the Oxford)
Best Western in Burgos
There is anotehr hotel near the Makati Palace (Citadel, someone will know) ?also budget type

All should be around that price but depends on time of the year, availability

Check a few web sites forst and price compare.

Does anybody have any recommendations for hotels very near the airport?

Meeting up with a lady friend but have limited time in Manila, so I do not want to waste time in traffic.

I've stayed at the Manila Airport Hotel, but it's rather pricy for what you get - about 3000 PHP. Rather small rooms.

Has anybody stayed at the Isabelle Garden Hotel? It looks to be a little further from the airport but less than half the cost.

And incredibly expensive ...go to the Dusit, VFM there, not at Shangri La. Inhave stayed there and at other SLs around the world, is a nice place but for Manila it is way too expensive

Hey mongers,

I've done all the homework and right now, the best deal in Makati is Dusit, only if you book through Hotels.com or Agoda. Three-night stays get one night free. Dusit's website is asking no fucking shit PHP 6689! The booking is non-refundable but you're coming anyway, aren't you? Comes out to US$90, no breakfast. US$100 if you take the same room and breakfast.

Get it while it's there.

.............Conways WGs have a high price tag.............

WR is correct.
The girls in Conways (Shangri-la Makati) ask very high prices and tend to stick to their price too as they much prefer to meet guys who are staying in-house and they know you can afford it too.
There are never too many WGs in Conways at any one time (I think security screen them well). A girl stopped me in the lounge area outside one night as I was heading there alone and asked me if she could accompany me through the door as she would not be allowed in un-escorted so obviously security have their "favorites".
I also collected a phone number one night from a girl late in the evening who hadn't landed a fish for the night (I wasn't taking any bait on that night) and I met her during the following week in Robinson's Mall, Malate. She was a Malate chick trying to join the big girl's classy league but had struck out. She quickly came back to earth with the regular 1500php S/T pickings in that part of the world.

Probably better to go to Icon in the Intercon and find a "cheaper" model and bring her the short distance back to Shang if that's where you are staying.

deay guys, i would like to share some information about sofitel manila.

location:

the hotel locates in pasay city and is next to t famous coconut palace. from the airport,it takes 20 minutes by taxi if the traffic isn't jam. mall of asia is 5 minutes away by taxi. also the edsa complex and la cafe aren't far away.

transportation:

taxi is the only option by far i think, given the hotel is far away from the main road. sofitel has its own taxi service, but it's cost a lot. they charge p220 to mall of asia or edsa complex. so it is better to take a regular taxi. ask the staff to call one for you. it cost p160 from the airport terminal 2, i took a yellow taxi, the white one may cost less. it cost p50 to the mall of asia, p60 to edsa complex, p80 to la cafe, p160 to burgos road.the above price may increas a lot depanded on the traffic situation.

room and rate

the standard room cost me 70 euro per night, excludes the breadfast and internet access. the check-in staff asked me if i would like to pay p3000 more per night for updating to the executive room includes breakfast and broadband internet, which i decliend. latter, i found there was weak wifi singal inside the room. the speed is accpetable.

the room which i got don't have bathtub or flat tv. the furnitures were old. but generally speaking, it was big and clean. the good thing was that it had a balcony faced the pool and the manila bay. the view was great.

girl friendly:

this hotel is girl friendly. i never been asked for joiner fee even the guest manual said this fee was required. if you bring the girl back before 11 pm i think, the staff would't say anthing. maybe my girl dressed in a low key way. if later than that time, they required the girl deposit her id.

in a nutshell, sofitel manila isn't my best choice. next time in manila, i may stay in pan pacific or dimond. i believe other 5 star hotels in makati are also better selections.

Just a quick word on the latest Makati hotel.

Saint Giles is located almost across the A Venue, just next to City Garden.

They suffer from the elevator plague I have already noticed at Oxford Suites.

There are only 4 elevators, and often you end up waiting. It's a little bit annoying.

I picked the superior room for 56$ + 300 pesos for unlimited internet for 24 hours. Note that internet is done via LAN cable and there is no wifi, so no good for iphone and mac book air guys:)

On the plus side, everything is of course brand new.

A big plus to the bathroom small but fuctionnal with a large shower space which is ok for two or three if you plan on having company

(not like this crappy bathtube for dwarf at A venue)

Nice flat screen tv probably 28 or 32 inches not sure with an excellent selection of channels. (100+)

On the minus side:

The room is so TINY, the bed fills up for much of the space. I don't think the room is large than 10 or 12 m˛. So avoid if you are claustrophobic.

The queen size bed, is quite cheap, it won't age very well, especially if some 300 lbs + punter loaded with Viagra bonks 2 spinner all night long:)

The breakfast is for asian only. I mean, I asked for an orange juice and some cereals, all they offer is congee, rice, chicken wings.

Overall. They claim it's 4 stars. Well for the phils maybe, for europe I'd compare this regarding room size, equipement, with an IBIS hotel. It might seems harsh but go to an IBIS hotel the room and bathroom has the same type of modern equipment. The only advantage of St giles vs an IBIS hotel would be its swimming pool on roof top and gym (due to open on Oct 15). But clearly a 3 stars european such as Novotel would be above St Giles in my book.

Overall I would still recommand it, because for 50$ in makati it's in the same range than A venue (which has such a bad bath room that it makes it worthless and a venue has no swimming pool on the rooftop), and Oxford suites which is worn out and is worthless until it gets renovated / refurbished.

Ok is it a good hotel? No, but it's decent and clean

Is the value for money good at 56$ per night? Yes it is

Will demanding punter used to top accomodation from such as Mandarin Oriental, Shangri La, Dusit, Penisula etc like this place? No, because the room are so tiny and the bed isn't super confy like in top hotels.

Hope it helps!

Thansk EF for putting things into perspective so well. While I do like the Dusit and one cannot compare St Giles to that, it is good to have a marker in the Ibis/Novotel category you mentioned as I have stayed in those hotels elsewhere in the world, so I can get an idea of the room size etc

Am a big guy and having 2 spinners at the same may make the bed shout out in pain :D. As for Asian breakfast...well I always have pinay for brekkie and it always tastes good :D But I can always go outside for something to eat if I need.

For me 24/7 wifi or internet is a must, clean rooms are great and new ones even better.

The Holiday Inn Express brand also fits this bill it seems.

As I rarely stay in Makati/Manila very long as I prefer to be elsewhere in the country at least I can now make an informed choice for the odd day I am there and give it go.

Good FR and an excellent and an honest opinion. I may try it despite the small rooms and beds that may not last too long after I have my wicked way with a lovely girl or three but worth a punt as I do like variety ;)

Thanks

I just found this forum and was going to post asking if the Dusit allows guests. I found my answer in your search function and the amount of info available is much appreciated.

I am booked to stay in the Dusit for the first two nights after I arrive to get my feet on the ground and once I have an itinerary I will move somewhere less expensive.

This is my first trip to the Philippines and while I was nervous about booking, I am now pretty pumped and really looking forward to it. I will try to pay back with some reviews, however I'm older than most of you so I don't expect there will be as many reports as some of the younger pooners. :))

Hope it helps!I stayed there last month (only 1 night), I like to think that I'm fairly critical but my reaction was nowhere near as harsh:

* elevators - Not as dire as you are saying, not always one parked in the lobby, but don't think I ever had to wait more than 45 seconds.

* internet - As stated, I would never have a notebook without a wired ethernet so not a big deal for me

* room - Small but I didn't feel cramped. Didn't watch any TV except the insipid video channel that cutie from Rogue switched on.

* breakfast - when I was there it was a mix of filipino and western. Were you there on a weekend or weekday?

I would overall rank it in the 3.5 star range. Maybe some of that is the newness of the facilities.

As a basic hotel when I don't want to spend a bundle for one night before getting out of Manila it would probably be one I would go to again except for the location - just a little TOO close to the Burgos warzone.

Sorry guys, its only a question here:

My research told me that some good options for money can be staying in Pearl Lane or Pearl Garden or Bayview hotel, all Malate, all more or less close to Robinsons and LA Cafe. Does anybody had a suggestion? I checked the forum, but it seems the discussions are more about hotels which are a bit out of my range, and everything which I found about these 3 seems to be a bit older. So I really would apriciate some new information. As everybody knows: things can change

Thanks a lot

http://ph.pagenation.com/mnl/Bayview%20Park%20Hotel%20Ermita_120.9785_14.5787.map

Any one out there knows of a better hotel than Executive Plaza or Cherry Blossoms close by Robinson's Mall? Perferably around 1900 pesos. The rooms are not that good at Cherry Blossoms, especially the bed and just wanted a change from Executive Plaza. Also not at Boulevard Mansion. I want to be close by LA Cafe.

City Garden and Lotus Garden, both on Mabini, 3 blocks from Robinson's. City Garden is the nicer of the two. Both have nice buffet breakfasts. CG has in-room safe's in one of the two 'towers', LG does not. LG was $45 when I checked a few months ago, CG was $55.

Tropicana Apartments, 1 block from Robinson's, p2200 for studio room. At the price you mentioned, p1900, its hard to find a decent place. However, just walking up/down Mabini, Adriatico, and Pedro Gil avenues, you can find closer to your price range. Also check Eurotel, on the corner of Pedro Gil and Adriatico, directly across the street from Robinson's (looking out from Starbucks on first floor). Get a room for your first night at any of these places, then on your first day, walk those streets and ask prices at various hotels for your next several day's stay.

PL is a better deal.

Bayview is fine. However, of all the hotels I've stayed at in RP, its the ONLY girl-unfriendly place I've ever been. Each time you bring a girl in (who is not a registered guest) the evening, they make you register her at the front desk. Bring in girl #1 at 8pm, they make a big deal about registering her. They take 5 minutes to do it (that'll ruin the mood). Bring in girl #2 at 1am, they make you register her also, and they explain to you (and everyone within earshot) that girl #2 is not the same person that you registered earlier in the evening, and that girl #2 is not entitled to the buffet breakfast in the morning. Its a crappy practice, and they do it like that on purpose. Happened to me twice in the last 3 years, and a buddy also. Also, it can take a long time to check out of this hotel (they take a while to check your room while you wait in the lobby). Don't know if they still have them, but there used to be a placard in the room, which explained the dangers of picking up prostitutes, and how the BV was trying to keep them out of the hotel.

Thanks a lotBayview hotel has good rooms. All the rooms have been renovated. All rooms are generally the same type with tubs in the bathroom. Cost is around $56 and up.

If you pre-pay for a week it comes down to around $50/Night.

Yes, the security people are a pain at night. Many a times they will just hold the girl's I.d at the entrance. Sometimes they ask you to register at the front desk although no extra charges are added.

Main thing is when you book, book for two persons. On check in get two breakfast coupons per night saying your friend will be joining you later. The bed is very comfortable king beds.

Only problems I have found in all manila hotels is they give only two bathtowels. Repeatedly taking showers after sex with one or many girls gets the towel unusable for drying. Calling housekeeping to get towels help. They will give fresh towels only to exchange the towels you already have.

I guess this is because guests steal towels.

I stay there a few month ago yes room is good like the bath tub, but the buffet sucks and they charge me 180 peso for a small towel because I spill some coke on it.

Rothman? I wouldn't say it's better, but in the right price range and location. It's been a few years since I've been there though.

Good luck.

Fast Eddie 48Yes, They have a problem with towels. Many a time I go to the housekeeping cart and exchange the towels when noody is there.

You should have tipped the maid 50 pesos and they will not charge you for coke stains. I had blood stains on the towel and after I tipped the maid no charge.

I think Bayview wants to to be known as family hotel because they do attract lots of conventions and seminars etc.

Palm plaza hotel is very good although I do not like their window air cons besides no tub. Location is great and girlfriendly. Tipping the cleaning man does wonders for the towels. They are also not allowed to give extra towels. The guy said they have to account for every towel.

Good luck.City state tower hotel is not bad. Actually a good deal. Be careful of rooms on the road side of the building sometimes the band across the street is loud and plays late.

Swagman is not so good but the people are very nice. But the cost compared to the room is poor quality.

This past weekend I spent a couple of nights at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Manila.
This was the result of a recommendation from none other than W.R himself (on this website) and a very favorable rate offered by www.agoda.com.
I got the ugraded room and was really impressed with the service and the facility itself. I brought along my own fun, so didn't venture out of the hotel.....probably couldn't if I had wanted to, but would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. It is a little higher priced than I normally pay, but when specials are offered, will be my hotel of choice in the future!

Always my favourite and some good deals can be had at certain times of the year. If upgraded the showers are big enough for 4 (well one big one and 3 petite slim ones:D), beds huge and service is great. Always stay there if I can. Impresses teh girlies especially anyone one you really see as a keeper.

Should have called me and I would have had some fun knock on your door..and ask to join in :p

Well I won't miss that opportunity a second time, I wasn't sure if you were in town or back in the sand box. I will give "advance warning" on the next visit!
Thanks!

Arrived at Fraser Place around 8 am. The hotel has a check in policy at 3 pm or so and refused to check us in earlier. At this point I guess the adrenalin from the red bull I drank on the way kicked in and simply refused to pay half a day stay after all we were staying there for few days and our bill was already around 60K. Considering they ignored all my email about early check in I should have just gone elsewhere but my buddy for some reason insisted on staying. We ended up sleeping for an hour on the pull deck before going to greenbelt ending eventually in the cinemas. We saw “The Devil” a movie about people getting stuck in an elevator. My friend made a joke about what an experience it would be to get stuck in an elevator especially in the Philippines and guess what, that night I did get stuck…Friskiest thing ever, the elevator in Fraser Place took my card and then took of to the 22nd floor. I called reception - mobile phone worked and they said stay calm we will fix it. Few minutes latter the lights went out. I was with my takeaway so I made most the of it but the whole thing sort of freaked me out. Once lights went out few after few minutes we pressed all the buttons and the lift took off to the ground floor. We struggled to get dressed b4 the door opened and the bell boy just handed me a new key... Crazy but fun.

Overall the condominium or whatever they call it is ok. Rooms are good, there is kitchen and good size leaving room. Master bedrooms have a TV (no tv in other bedrooms). They don't clean or service the appratment on sundays. descent swimming pool and restaurant good organic place right next to the hotel. I saw a lot of diplomatic plats and nice looking ladies in the foyer. Not a typical mogoring place so I kind of felt out of place on moments.

For the price we payed I guess I expected more. I can't see myself going back there.

St. Giles Hotel in Makkati, which is suggested by some fellow travellers in here, offers a 10 % discount right now if you book it through their own website. So the room is 51. 30 USD including taxes and service charge. Breakfast is an extra USD 7 per person.

I guess its cheeper then agoda. Booked it, and will inform you about my impressions about the hotel after arriving there.

Always book a room for two people, no matter where you go. NW, Dusit, Icon, Mandarin are all GF and IMHO all fungible. Take the hotel that offers the best deal. Shangri-La Makati is a little better than the rest but not worth $150 to $200 extra, again in my opinion. Rates are pretty good for a November and December booking at the Dusit and Icon, but still ridiculously high for 2011. Be patient. The deals will come.
