Westcoast, all those wonderful pictures and the photo thread and now you bless us with a hotel review. Bless your heart.

The location is actually east of Robinsons Mall, so that makes it quite a hike to MBC. Taxis are hard to catch in front, but the guards will try to help.

The suites are about 3000 and are quite spacious. I'm not sure I need the kitchen and that long walk from the bed to the rest room. You will need to sign off on all the utensils and pans, etc. Hopefully you don't [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) off your date, because there are butcher knives in those drawers. LOL

The biggest annoyance is that the living room and tv are not air con. Only the bedroom. Oh, and sometimes taxi drivers don't know how to get there.

As was mentioned, this is mostly a longer term rental place. Short stay rental rooms are limited and I've found they are usually on the 9th floor. The elevator goes only to the 8th floor. Good for a bit of exercise. And one last thing, the cleaning folk are all young men. This strikes me as odd since in most places it is mostly women.

The place is a bit older, but that's why the price is relatively low. I found that if you pushed your door lock button as you exited, your key would no longer work when you returned. I learned the hard way. I was rather surprised when the maintenance crew came with hammer and chisel and basically tore the door open. I got inside and then they repaired the door. It seem like something they were used to doing.

Doc thinks it's safe to walk at night. I do too, but around midnight when the mall has closed, the univ is closed, that can be a long desolate walk.

Paco Park Oasis Hotel is another place with a pool, but even farther from MBC. (I'm using MBC as a geographic reference, not saying I recommend it).

I'm not sure I'd recommend Trop for newcomers or people out of shape, but if you need to do your laps, this place has a pool. X.

Very good review, but I might add that the neighborhood surrounding the Tropicana (St. Paul's University is across the street) is very good; so, it is quite safe to walk around at night. Also, the security officers at the hotel have been there for years, know the scene, and will look out for you.

One thing about the pool though, it is located on the east side of the hotel; so, it gets a little cold swimming in the afternoon. Another plus to the hotel is the roof top viewing area; it's really nice at night.

I've stayed at the Trop. Numerous times, but it's gotten so popular that price-wise it's not the value it once was, but I always enjoyed my stays, and Erlinda, the reservations manager, never forgets you. Her memory is pretty amazing.

Last night I saw a banner announcing a promo of p960 for a 2-person "budget" room at the recently opened V Hotel on Adriatico near Remedios. An attractive offer since it's p500 to p1000 less that other budget hotels in the area, so I checked it out.

What the banner doesn't trumpet is the big gotcha: in the budget room is a bunk bed. Like camp. The shower and toiler are communal, as is the living room, and shared amongst 9 rooms. The tariff includes breakfast for two. On the roof is a very small pool, 5 metres perhaps. Almost no space to sun oneself horizontally beside it.

I also looked at the deluxe rooms at p2600. Nothing special and for a new place the room smelt a bit musty - perhaps the linens were obtained second-hand. Anyway, the room is reasonably sized and has a nice bathroom. 14" CRT TV (they're still making those? Who knew?). In-room fridge. Free wifi in the "wifi zone". No in-room safe; there are safety boxes behind the front desk that are accessible to the guest 24x7.

Most hotel in Manila do this offer a cheap price when you go inside they tell you price is for Pinay or room is sold out and try to upgrade you to a more expensive room just save time and book with Agoda.

Fast Eddie 48That, or the banner trumpets a room at p1200 to p1400 and in very small font it adds "per person 2-person occupancy". Anyway, the V Hotel is quite new and the rooms it was promoting are available at p960, foreigners included; the banner doesn't tell you it's for a bunk bed and you have to share the loo, shower, and living room with all the other guests. Really can't imagine this set up being acceptable to anyone hooking up with women.

Hi guys,

I'm looking into travelling over to Manila in November and have been reading the forums and looking around at other hotels. Does anyone happen to know whether the Oakwood Premier Joy. Nostalg Center Manila may be girl friendly? I'm not entirely sure of the location as this will be my first trip to the Philippines, I've only ever travelled around China before, but this hotel seems to be within fairly close distance to some of the nearby malls.

If anyone is able to give some advice or recommendations on this hotel, it would be much appreciated.

The Ortigas Center area where it is located is fairly high end, with lots of business headquarters in the neighborhood. This would be an okay location for attracting women from the online dating sites, as they will be impressed to meet you in one of the nearby malls. But these malls are not the favored locations for picking up pfp mall walkers. Also, this hotel is quite far (read long taxi ride) from the usual sites for picking up bargirls or freelancers, such as Burgos, EDSA complex, Ermita (MBC, etc.) , or the Greenbelt Malls. Good location from which to carry on business, not so good for carrying on the old in-out, in-out.

I live about 5 minutes walk from this hotel. It is located right in the midst of Ortigas Center and it is primarily a business hotel.

It is opposite ADB so it is full of executive consultanTS.

It is definitely gf but unless you are working in Ortigas or nearby I cannot see why you would choose Oakwood over other places like Shangri-la, Peninsula, Mandarin, Raffles, Fairmont etc in Makati. As SK said in a general way, if you are here to monger, then stay in Makati or Pasay or Malate.
If you are here to visit malls, then it is absolutely perfect as it is easy walking distance to Robinsons Galleria, Podium, SM Megamall and Shangri-la. These are NOT pick-uo malls

Thanks guys!

I really do appreciate the replies and feedback.

I chose that Oakwood hotel because it looked fairly decent, to be honest I've been a bit surprised at some of the hotel prices in Manila and how high they can be, especially after reading some reviews and hearing how quite a few of the hotels aren't so shabby on the inside. I've only travelled around China, but seems there are much better hotels for the money even in cities like Beijing and Shanghai.

Those hotels you mentioned Red Kilt, are much higher than the price I'd be willing to pay, I'll most likely be staying for 3-4 weeks, so somewhere that's a bit lighter on the wallet would be nice. Have spoken with some locals through the usual online dating sites mentioned here and seem to have narrowed down to a decent hotel location wise, Somerset Olympia Makati claims to only be 600 metres from Glorietta and Greenbelt shopping malls, if I'm not mistaken these malls are pretty good pick up places?

Thanks again for the feedback!

Thanks again for the feedback! In China even shabby hotels have good beds and clean linens because they use washing machines and dryers to clean. In Phi low class hotels use hand washing and hung up to dry cleaners. The linens come out smelly.

Yes, Phi hotels could have been cheaper comparable to general economy.

Pick up places can be anywhere in Phi. Depends on your luck and negotiating skills. It is easy to pick up non pros. If they go to dinner with you it is given that sex follows.

Thanks again for the feedback!Just a word of caution. Take the accommodation information the ladies give you with a grain of salt. Many will have never stayed in a hotel and only know of them by walking by them, or seeing the billboards.

Or they live close and want to be able to drop in at random.

Somerset Olympia is Ok and girl friendly. But probably the oldest of the Somersets. A tad run done when I stayed there 2 years back. Prefer the S. Millennium on Aguirre in Legaspi Village. V. Close to Green Belt / Havana etc. Short taxi to P Burgos if you are lucky with traffic.

Am sure other members can suggest others in the hood. All the usual high end places are there.

Hey all,

After hearing some recommendations from a few members I made a reservation at Riviera Mansion. I think I will only be in that area a couple nights. My plan is to probably head to Burgos. Anyone here have any feedback about this place and it's location to the main hot spots for nightlife like EDSA and Burgos? Or others you may prefer.

Hello All,

In a couple of weeks I am flying into NAIA late, about midnight and meeting some friends the next morning to head south. I wanted to get a hotel very near the airport to make it easy for everyone to rendezvous. I know about the Airport Inn, but was hoping that someone might know of another hotel (not named Marriott) in the area. The Airport is okay, but I was hoping to find something a little nicer, but not 12K pesos a night. TIA.

The hotel is in Malate, only slightly removed from Ermita. Lots of sleaze, poverty, and annoying beggars in the area, so be prepared, and plan to keep most of your money in the hotel.

Burgos and EDSA complex are about 30 minutes away by taxi in light traffic but much longer in heavy traffic. EDSA is to the south, Burgos is to the east.

For those planning trips to phils and have an iphone or ipad I have found the following apps very useful:

Skyscanner: international flights.

Kayak: for hotels, flights and lots more.

PH flight: lists all internal fils flights with times, airways and cost.

Pinoy weather: what it says.

. Oxford and Tune seem alright.IMHO Oxford needs TLC and while ideally located in Burgos I would stay elsewhere. I used to stay there until I felt it was getting very tatty at the edges and the musky smell from the room got too much. A lot of long term expats reside there though so some like it.

You could try Durban or Makati Palace. The City Garden (next to St Giles) w as offering some good promo rates yesterday when I was in Makati/ Burgos.

Fast Eddie 48I don't think so Eddie.

You must have been there on a slow night or too early.

That area will become the center of Manila show business once the new mega-casino complexes are up and running. The A Crowd will move there from Resort World near Terminal 3, NAIA where they currently party.

I went to Solaire recently on a Saturday night (maybe Sunday morning) and it was jumping.

It is biding its time with a sort of softly softly approach so that it is established when the high rollers arrive in 2014. 15.

It is not the place that will appeal to the majority (90%) of ISG mongers who think the sleaze of AC is the center of the universe.

It will appeal to the well-heeled clientele only.

I don't think so Eddie.

You must have been there on a slow night or too early.I concur. Like Solaire is now Resorts World (RW) began with just the casino and a hotel and over time added the other hotels, mall, nightclubs, theatre, etc. Certainly Solaire has its expansion plans which have been funded by its backers. One of my new girls works as a manager of RW's VIP customer reps and she told me two nights ago that RW has seen a decline in customers and takings since Solaire opened. But there's 1. 4 billion Chinese who, together with all the other Asian gamblers, tell me that both casinos will do just fine.

This year Enrique Razon jumped to 3rd wealthiest Filipino from 7th, largely due to Solaire.

OK, so I'll be in Manila soon with work colleagues who I cannot let see me bringing girls back to my room. Can someone please tell me if there are any hotels, motels, apartelles, or condos, with a private entrance In Manila? Main point, need to totally avoid a 'walk of shame' At all costs. Preferably Malate area, but would also possibly consider Makati or even Quezon City if not too expensive. I read on another board that Cherry Blossoms hotel has a second entrance down a side street. And that Amazonia is a possibility for this kind of request as well. Anyone? Thanks in advance. Full report will come following the trip which begins this week.

Are your work colleague staying in the same hotel, or is this some kind of double security measure? I really get a fkn headache answering these kinds of questions because they are so vague.

Just get two rooms at two different places. I've done it before. Kind of sad having wild sex in a cheap room, when the expenxive room goes unused, but that is the price you pay when you want to have your cake and eat it too.

It's been a long time since I stayed at Malate Executive, but I can think of two quick and dirty options form there. Eurotel and Rothman. We'd love to hear the follow up, but I'm guessing you will just disappear like many of the short time posters with soemthing to hide.

Full report will come following the trip which begins this week.Amazonia is not a standard hotel per se. Of course it is cheap but mostly used by punters for short romp. You cannot book there to stay with your colleagues. Downstairs is the bar full off prostitutes.

You can pick up a girl from there or around the corner in MBC and use the room. Room is very small and the bathroom has only wiggle room for one. No safe deposit box.

Most important is before the deed and after the deed when you take a shower do not leave your wallet or anything valuable in the bedroom. Take it with you to the bathroom. Do not trust any girl.

Some girls have robbed guys and walked off. There is no security there.

I don't think so Eddie.

It will appeal to the well-heeled clientele only.To RED.

I was there on thurday afternoon there are hardly anyone in the casino Pagor is managing the casino, the place is beautiful and empty don't think they know how to market a high end casino like Resort world I go there after and RW is much busy, there will be 3 more large casino going to open in the same area on the next 2 yr where will they find the high roller from.

Preferably Malate areaTwo ideal options: Sogo Hotel or Victoria Court near Quirino. Google either one for more info. Both have DRIVE IN and WALK IN. You arrive in taxi into a compound with no street view and can select a taxi room (walk-in) or garage room (drive-in). Pay the attendant and he will give you a room for circa 3 hours (depends on hotel). Ask for a discount card for a discount. Sogo is more run-down, but completely serviceable for a short-time fuck. Some of the Victoria Court rooms are the quality of nice Japan-like love hotels (themes, etc.). Once you are done, you can call to front and they will get a taxi for you, so no need to go outside the hotel compound for the return. There is NO SUCH THING as any commercial hotsheet place without any sight of the people who would come / go. Any place would be inherently dangerous as that would mean "no security".

What's vague about the question? Seems pretty obvious to others what I was looking to find out. And about your 'fkn headache' ... you're not obliged to answer me nor anyone else in this forum, so no sympathy here. Also, neither Eurotel nor Rothman offer what I'm looking for. AND, as far as your insinuation that I have something to hide ... f*ck off, you don't know me.

Hi Guys,

Visit to Manila in late March next year.

I'd like to experience the nightlife safely and be reasonably near a Mall.

Is it worth paying the £100 + per night for the Hyatt or is there a safe hotel cheaper? Wifi and no joiner fees are essential, a pool is not.

Any advice gratefully received.

I didn't see any [girls at the Solaire Casino] and was not looking either and I was in Macau last week didn't see any in the Venetian casino area either did you scare all of them away.

I don't think so. I was last in Macau in April and I sadly have to admit that I did not go near the Venetian. Most of my Macau mongering adventures have taken place in the saunas. In the saunas, 95% of my girls are Chinese and outside the saunas when I set up a meet with a sauna girl later at my hotel, 90% of my girls are Vietnamese + 10% Indonesian. Over the years, I've met a few very friendly Filipinas at MP3 bar, but frankly, I think there is better quality looking Filipinas in Manila, AC and Subic. There is definitely more selection in the PI. The time before my last visit to Macau, I met a Chinese FL stunner at the MGM casino. Wow! She was close to a 9. A real beauty. I had to have her.

Anyway, I envy you guys who are currently in the PI. I wish I was there too. Oh well. I have to work now and make some money so I can come over in February and have another great time. I have already booked a deluxe room for a couple of nights at the Diamond Hotel Malate ($100/night) for my arrival late February and a corner suite for 4 nights at the Fairmont Makati ($150/night) over Easter weekend before I say bye bye Asia 2014.

On that note, I have a question. What's Makati like over Easter? I am assuming many shopping malls will be closed (I don't care), but the bars on Burgos ST and EDSA Complex bars will be open and welcoming to all us sinners, right?. My experience over Easter 2013 in AC was very good. Sure, a lot of girls went home to be with their families, but there were still plenty of girls on hand in all the bars. Furthermore, the attitude and friendliness of the girls who chose to remain in town and work was very high. In other words, AC rocked I had a great time over Easter 2013.

These casinos are being built to attract the Chinese, and there is an ever-growing number of them spinning out into the region.

Enrique Razon is a clever businessman. He would have done his research before his consortium spent mega-bucks on this HUGE casino and hotel development just south of SM Mall of Asia.

Remember that Resorts World languished for around 2 years with few punters when it was built before the other large hotels were finished nearby.

Now it is very busy, but ONLY for those who can afford it (even the cinema complex costs more than double what you pay in the other regular SM and Robinson's Cinemas).

Solaire will be a similar venture. Very attractive building and eventually it will become a hub of activity.

what's vague about the question?i'm getting to your question a few days late, but i too found some vagueness in your question. reading between the line i assumed you were saying that you and work colleagues would be staying in the same hotel, you want to bring girls to your room, and you don't want your co-workers seeing your entry with woman at heel. but walk of shame occurs, in some mongers' and some women's minds, when anybody sees them entering with young women who look like prostitutes. and you did not say whether your colleagues are staying in the same hotel. so are you worried about a walk of shame in front of co-workers or just in front of hotel staff or anybody in general?

bringing women into a hotel where your co-workers are staying and hoping for no walk of shame seems impractical. when you arrive together there's a good chance the hotel staff will put you in adjacent or cross the hall rooms. so even if you can sneak a girl in through a basement elevator, how can you guarantee they won't peek their heads out the door when they hear you open your room door? you just can't guarantee your co-workers' movements in the hotel, so the whole idea is simply impractical. if you really want to pull some pinay p4ps, you should plan to do it at another hotel.

now, some suggestions. first, if you haven't already made lodging reservations, why not strategize staying at a different hotel than your colleagues. i have traveled from the states with work colleagues numerous times and found ways to get myself into a different hotel-where i was free to get it on regularly. i usually made my travel reservations separately, but because they trust my knowledge of manila, i steer them later toward a "safe" location and better quality hotel. i've made various excuses for why i end up at different hotels."oh, i made my reservation earlier and was thinking i wanted to be where i can get quickly to either the southern areas of manila (malate) or quezon city, so i wanted to be on the north side to avoid the terrible traffic jams between manila and qc during the middle of the day." i've come up with other explanations on other occasions.

here's a second approach. go ahead and stay in the hotel with co-workers, but take your p4p to a three-hour hotsheet establishment. that's the model that fits with ar's recommendation of sogo or victoria court. eurotel and various other hotsheet places also come to mind. don't know about prices at vc, but sogo, eurotel and other places are very inexpensive for 3- or 6-hour stay. somebody else suggested amazonia--certainly convenient to the downstairs club and mbc, but other hotsheet hotels probably have more spacious rooms and competitive prices. if you want to play, plan to pay.

in any case, do some serious investigation on the agoda or other hotel sites until you really know where other hotel options are.

Have had a couple of experiences when travelling with colleagues:

Singapore: Went out solo late at night after the other one had called it a night.

Hong Kong: Lady waited at waiting area until I had checked in. Joined me in the lift as the concierge took me to 'our' room. Gave her second key for the duration of the visit, she ate at separate breakfast and just saw me in the nights.

Manila: Met lady at Starbucks across the road, gave her second room key, she followed me in, about 20 metres behind, met in lift.

In both cases never went around together in the hotels.

If it was truly critical to my career then I probably wouldn't do it this way.

Just a quick question for you guys.

I was wondering what is the normal procedure at a hotel if you are bringing 2 girls back. Do they require you to register both girls and then assess the extra guest charge? While I was reviewing hotels I always noticed 2 Max and charges. I will be staying at Riviera Mansion and Makati Palace during my stay. Just curious because this is something I plan to do at some point during my trip.

FLT.I have no experience of the two hotels you mentioned, but other hotels I stay at regularly, Oxford Suites in P Burgos and the Mandarin Oriental have never questioned having two girls in the room overnight.

I always book double occupancy so I wouldn't push my luck trying to get the third person the breakfast buffet, as only two are included. To do so would almost certainly catch you out! If you want the buffet, just pay for the third and you should be fine.

FLT.I often had two or more girls stay with me in various hotels and was never asked for a joiner fee. As Bonker04 pointed out, I too always booked for 2pax and if breakfast was included then I always paid for the extra breakfast (s). Otherwise I just took them out or we ordered room service; a lot of girls will share a meal and all you need to do is order an extra portion or two or three, etc, etc, etc of rice.

Another option, although perhaps too late for you now, is to rent a condo / apartelle; you can bring in as many girls as you like (insert big grin).

I have used the Heritage before and it is not too bad on most fronts but sometimes the girls get jittery about the ghosts after the fire.

Have also used the Phillipine Plaza (now a Sofitel) which used to be a nice place but is now looking a bit tired with very overpriced food and drink.

Have seen mixed reports here about Copacabana Apartments. AC problems, hot water problems etc. Have these been fixed?

And what about Traders?

No. The place has a great location near MOA, has a pool, and is across the street from some really nice bars. I found the beds to be noisy. You might consider the place adjacent to MOA. I don't remeber the name, but it should be easy to find.

What fire?

I stayed, for the first time in years, at the Heritage for one night last week. I was as thoroughly unimpressed with it then as I was during prior stays. It's run down, a bit frumpy and, for the $100 with tax that I paid on Agoda, does not offer decent value for money. The location is useless, aside from the clubs across the street in which I had zero interest. I stayed there to meet an old friend whom I hadn't seen for a while but I would never recommend the place.

I liked that aspect, and at that time I enjoyed frequenting EIEC across the road and it was reasonably close to the (then) LA Cafe.

I agree that maybe the fittings are probably a bit tired now but I recall it was being progressively renovated around 2008.

Fast Eddie, I hope you'll allow me to differ with you. The location is near EDSA bars, as you said, but also near the Mall of Asia / MOA (I walked, but on a hot day that is not recommended). It's not far from the airport. It sits between MBC / Ermita and Malate and even the airport road bars if one is so inclined. Heading east you'll find one of the rail lines I believe, but I've never used it. You'll also find a bus station that will take you to AC. To the south you can find the Baclaran market, which is quite colorful and full of friendly local people.

I did a review of Copacabana hotel recently (near Heritage) and I honestly enjoyed the location as an alternative to my usual haunts in Malate / Ermita.

Next time I might go for the Microtel Htl which is next door to mall of asia. At 5000p it is a bit over what I usually pay, but the MOA Manila Bay waterfront is kind of fun. X.

Fast Eddie 48Thanks, but I live in the country and I'm in Manila every week, always in Makati and always at the Fairmont, which has become my favorite hotel. I stayed at the Heritage only because an old friend was in town for the night, and he was staying there. I see little point, given the horrific traffic in the city, in staying somewhere that's not in walking distance of anything interesting. And to me the Edsa complex is thoroughly uninteresting. The Fairmont is within easy walking distance of Greenbelt, and the area in which it's situated is attractive, which in itself is a bit unusual for Manila.

Xman, I don't know the Microtel here, but I'm familiar with its namesake in Davao, which is priced at about the same level. To me, there's little value for money at the hotel in Davao and I wouldn't recommend it.

I have stayed at a lot of hotels, mostly 5 star, and none have charged me any extra or given me hassle. The first time I took 2 girls, I was so embarrassed and self conscious. Just smile, and keep moving. Do not stop to chit chat. Head straight to the check-in counter and say I have a 2 short term visitor. They will card them, and up you go. To begin with, I have not stayed at this hotel, but have dined there several times recently. I found the place when checking restaurant reviews and this hotel's is reputed to be amongst Manila's best - google My Kitchen by Chef Chris. If you want a recommendation go with the Ceasar salad, the Chilean sea bass, the slow-roasted chicken (only available on Fri night and the weekends) , and finish with the homemade gelato. The food is homey, well prepared, and the portions are large. The slow-roasted chicken is the entire bird that can feed 3-4 people.

Near Padre Faura and Taft Ave the hotel is about a 10-minute taxi ride from the sights and frights of Malate and Ermita. The quiet neighborhood is okay, with the bonus of no street riff raff to contend with. There is road construction ongoing so it may be noisy during the day; I've been there at night only, and it's very quiet. I looked at the rooms and they're clean and comfortable, and if you choose the older standard room at approx p1200 + tax and service charge (online) it's a very good value. The place even has a swimming pool, which is important to me, as most budget places don't. The reviews on tripadvisor dot com are quite favourable. I can confirm staff is very friendly and attentive. The hotel markets itself as a boutique, which usually means small and expensive; this place is small (3 or 4 floors) and affordable. If you like a colonial flavour the historic Paco Park is across the street.

Lest I be accused of being a shill, I have no stake in the hotel, and no, I'm not Chef Chris either. I prefer and patronise off-the-radar places that are well-run and a good value. If you're looking at the City State, City Garden, Eurotel, Los Palmas or other affordable Malate / Ermita hotel you may want to consider this place instead.

The Heritage and the Copacabana are useless as the location is just out of walking distance of the Mall Of Asia and travel to the EDSA complex is a tedious undertaking if attempting the trek on foot due to the barriers preventing direct crossing of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue. This is why there are pedestrian walkways over EDSA. Heritage and even more so Copacabana are both truly horrible, dated, overpriced hotels in an insalubrious neighbourhood close to Baclaran market. Lots of lowlife scum in evidence. It was in this area is that I was mugged in broad daylight (silver chain snatched from neck). Take care.

Just "out of walking distance" means a short taxi ride or maybe some good exercise for someone who has a bit of vigor. I think I was pretty fair about the pros and cons. (close to airport, MOA, pfp, etc)

At night, what places in Manila aren't dark and dodgy?

If walking to the flyover, and crossing the street to EDSA Entertainment plaza is a "tedious undertaking", I would suggest taking a taxi. I'm sorry if anyone has ill health and weak constitution which prevents them from this 10 or 15 minute walk.

I've walked to MOA from Copacabana, then taken a taxi to EDSA E complex, had a few beers, and when someone special suggested that she is "almost there" I walked back to the hotel using the flyover and beat her by 30 minutes. And then shagged half the night, and half the next morning. X.

Well, I know it must [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) you off to this day, but could you give us a more of the dirty details? A chain snatch sound pretty violent, so I hope you can share the details.

As for the area immediately in front of the EDSA complex, I won't even take a taxi from there. I always walk down the street a bit and ask for meter. I would do the same in front of MBC.

Take care.

A chain snatch sound pretty violent, so I hope you can share the details. In 2010 I had a gold chain removed from my wrist walking in front of SM Megamall at 3 pm in the afternoon.

2 young guys. One tapped me on the left shoulder as I walked along, and the other grabbed my right arm and snipped off the chain. It took 3 seconds and they were gone. All that remained was a small scratch where the pliers were inserted under the chain. A security guard saw it but could do nothing. They were too slick. He said that I was lucky as they would both have knives in case I managed to grab one of them.

Since that day I wear no jewellery at all, never hold my CP in my hand, carry 2 money clips with small bills and large bills separate, and I have a fake small wallet with 2 expired credit cards in it to give anyone who wants it.

The odds of this happening increase dramatically if it is dark or later at night.

I figured that since I am tall and fit and walk fast that I was safe. Nobody would touch me.

I was shocked for days by the brazen nature of what happened.

Don't be too sure that it will not happen to you. I was targeted in broad daylight. I suspect CS has a similar tale.

In 2010 I suspect CS has a similar tale.More or less.

I was strolling down Harrison on my way to meet a date at the new Sogo there when I felt a tug at my neck. Turned round to see a big ugly Filipinos lumbering away up the street. Could probably have caught him but I am not going to risk my life against a possibly knife carrying assailant for an £8 Argos silver chain. The valuable thing (to me) was the small medallion on the chain. This had fallen off and was lying on the ground at my feet.

But it rams home the message that you have to be careful in this area and others. It is foolish to go out on the streets of Manila wearing expensive items of jewellery that might attract unwanted attention.

Similar to RK, I only go out carrying what I need for the day / night and with nothing that I cannot afford to lose.

At night, what places in Manila aren't dark and dodgy?Goody, a quiz. In Metro Manila (MM) it's basically Eastwood, BGC, and parts of Makati that I know of.

There was a report of the street-crime hotspots in the news a few weeks back. Top 5 crime-ridden areas in MM.

5) Kalentong. This is near Megamall.

4) Monumento in Caloocan.

3) Manila's University Belt. This is near the sights and frights that attract the punters to Ermita and Malate, though these places aren't technically in the belt.

2) Cubao. Near Araneta Centre and Gateway Mall.

1) Baclaran / Pasay area, where EDSA Entertainment Complex and Heritage Hotel are located.

It is quite a long way along Shaw Boulevard past Wack Wack and almost to the edge of Mandaluyong. If you know where Jose Rizal University is situated along Shaw Boulevard then you are pretty much there.

I live in Ortigas Center area which is supposed to be safe but there have been incidents around the ADB, Podium, and of course SM megamall where I had a problem.

The key lesson? Opportunistic crime will occur ANYWHERE, and usually when you least expect or anticipate it.

I've gone thru some pretty dodgy areas with a DSLR camera. The only time I felt threatened was when some shirtless beer-bellied loud mouth took offense to me photographing the homeless sleeping on the sidewalk (Cebu). I was tempted to take his picture, but his beer belly was bigger than mine. I moved on. LOL.

Thanks for the story. Do you remember the gal you had that night? I'm guessing you do, but don't remember the shags before or after. It's funny how the brain works. I've had wallets disappear twice in the Philippines and still remember the gals I was with that day.

There was a report of the street-crime hotspots in the news a few weeks back. Top 5 crime-ridden areas in MM.I'm a little surprised by this list, but perhaps the operative term is "street-crime," implying places where people who aren't poor get victimized. I would guess that parts of Tondo, Bagong Silang in North Caloocan City, and maybe Catmon in Malabon City are considerably more dodgy. The differences are perhaps that well-to-do people avoid these places, so that the victims are other poor people who have little confidence that the police will take their reports seriously and whom the police ignore because there is rarely much money to be extracted through bribes.

I was thinking of staying there as it seems like a decent price for a decent room in a good location for me. Any thoughts or experiences? Any problems with guests?I have stayed there several times (although admittedly my most recent stay was over a year ago).

I have always found it to be totally guest friendly and surely that won't have changed, because as you mentioned it's just down the street from MBC, Amazonia, etc.

As a hotel it is OK. The rooms are quite nice but I seem to recall that the aircons are the noisy kind though. Also the rooms could be quite noisy due to the location.

The restaurant looks OK too, but I only ever had breakfast there, which was reasonable but not great.

If you don't like the food then of course the Duck Inn is across the street, and there is (or was) a Pizza Hut nearby.

Just wondered if anybody has stayed at Fraser Place in Makati recently, and if so can you confirm it is still girl friendly?

I haven't stayed there for a few years. I seem to recall that the 'walk of shame' can be quite uncomfortable there. Is this still the case?

And yes, I did search through this thread (also the Makati thread) but I couldn't find anything related to Fraser Place since last year.

Anyone have info on the Royal Bellagio Hotel in Makati?I stayed here earlier this year. I would stay again at the right price.

Benefits.

Centre f the action.

Downstairs coffee lounge is good for people watching.

Theme rooms are fun.

Rooms are basic.

Cons.

The management 'mindset' of the hotel is pathetic, not business minded at all.

There is a charge for the in-room coffee sachets (only hotel in the world)

No in room safe but have safety deposit boxes at reception.

Hotel website is http://royalbellagio.com/. BUT do not book through the "directwithhotels. Com" link. Even though it is on the official website, the hotel says it is not official.

For better deal you need to email the hotel directly via the details on the About Us page:

Address:

As I had mentioned a few weeks ago, I had booked the Oxford Suites with a non-cancellable reservation through Agoda. Got a great price $48 before tax. After my booking I received comments that this hotel was getting a little worn.

Check in late at night was pretty smooth. As I had noticed this hotel and its location on my last visit, I knew it was right in the girlie bar strip, so I wasn't suprised that as soon as my taxi pulled up, I was being propositioned for massage, cialis etc. However the friendly doorman intervened and grabbed my bags. Check in was pretty friendly with a friendly pinay at the desk. As soon as I got off the elevator on my floor, I noticed the mildew or mold smell. It was pretty bad. Unfortunately, my room had that problem too. The room was reasonably furnished and the bed linen fairly new. The bathroom was fairly good and a fridge with mini bar was in the room. The odd thing about the room safe was that its bolted to a removable shelf unilt, so if you ever see someone hauling a shelf unit out of this hotel at night, look to see if there is a safe attached.

As to the main point of this report. The hotel is girl friendly. On check in I had mentioned that a "friend" would be joining me soon which didn't even warrant a batted eyelid. I met my friend in the lobby as the doorman looked on approvingly, and up we went in the elevator. We didn; 't go for breakfast this time, because we slept late, but as we met staff in the elevator and the lobby we got "sir and maam" greetings, although it was pretty obvious this girl was not my traveling companion. So yes, its confirmed, this hotel is girl friendly.

The second night (of which will be documented later) my date and I "availed" of the breakfast. Although we got a few glances of disapproval from a couple of caucasion women and children as well as some "wish it were me" glances from their husbands, fathers, the staff treated both of us with respect. Again confirmation its a girl friendly hotel.

Unfortunately the breakfast was underwhelming but nothing to write home about. The usual coffee, juice mix, UHT milk is present. Bread, toaster, watery marmalade. Eggs / omelettes to order, usual Filipino type ham, non descript salad stuff. The odd small cockroach scurrying around (seriously).

All in all, for the price, its ok. If I could afford to go more upscale I would, but then I would have less money for my real goal here. If I could find a better hotel for the price, I would go for it.

ThanksRothman is my choice. You pay extra for the internet.

Now that is out of the way, sport, I read thru your posts. Almost all ask questions such as yours: "Whats the best hotel?", etc. Brazil, Russia, Ukraine, AC, now Manila. Previously paid subscription that must have lapsed. Nothing in the way of an honest Field Report among your 22 posts. Philippine threads are not for newbs to ask questions on the open board: please PM one of us. Post a real FR first, and we'll be glad to help you out on the open board. Its hard to PM you with this info as you have no PM. On the AC Hotels thread you previously stated:

Why so angry if I don't travel much and don't contribute because of this?

Its because even after you ask questions on the various threads, and get answers, you don't provide any FR's or feedback. We call that taking and not giving.

3. Victoria Court Hotel Malate. It should only be 2. Your 3rd choice of Victoria Court is a short-time though higher quality "hot-sheet" drive-in hotel.

All of the short-time "love hotels" like Sogo, Eurotel and Victoria Court are trying to re-badge themselves as normal, cheap over-nighters but they carry the stigma of a short-time place.

Some of the better rooms at VC are themed and very comfortable but are just as expensive as a regular hotel.

Check this link from back in February for some interesting data about them:

(Not sure why this will not load as a live link so just paste it in your browser)

If you don't mind the constant tramp and click of high heels of guests coming and going all night then you could try it, but you need to know it's primarily marketed as a short-time place.

In the Malabon Zoo as long as you keep hands and feet out of the cages it doesn't seem dangerous. Is the Manila Zoo a different story? I wasn't planning to visit but will steer clear if so advised.

I stayed here for one night at the beginning of my trip. The staff was really friendly, especially the doormen who were very helpful.

The room was nice, very clean. I stayed in a Deluxe room, p2125. Plenty of room for activities and a nice bathroom. The only negative was the WiFi which was all around bad. Could not keep a usable connection in my room and it was barely usable in the lobby, but for a 1 not stay before moving on it was not a big deal.

I stayed here for 4 nights. I got the deal off of Agoda for the Superior King w / WiFi included, around p2200. I read some other posts about people still being charged for the WiFi, but I had no issue with this. I was on one of the top floors and got a decent connection.

The bed ended up being two pushed together rather than a King, but it left a lot of room for plenty of fun.

The room was comfortable here and the staff was friendly. This is a well talked about place, but I would definitely stay there again, given its location and cleanliness.

I walked into this place after checking out of Makati Palace. I had planned originally to leave Manila, but things were going well so I stayed there for another 4 days, which led me to this place. They have rooms from p1700-p2300.

The first night I stayed in a p1700 room. It was small, basically just a bed in the room and bathroom. I was put on the first floor right next to the lobby and sharing a wall with the coffee bar. Not the most ideal spot. Also, the WiFi was unusable, which was odd given it was two steps from the lobby which got WiFi.

The next day I asked to move and I decided to upgrade to the suite at p2000. Much bigger and had room to walk around. It was on the 3rd floor and got great WiFi. Some negatives, they do not provide much for toiletries. 2 towels and soap dispensers above the sink and in the shower with soap, but I don't think it was very effective stuff. I ended up just stocking my own bathroom. Also the place was under construction at the time, should be done by now though. But at the time, I had a lot of cracks in the bathroom and there would be a trail of ants at times. And their safety deposit boxes consist of envelops taped up with your signature on it.

However, they are very strict with their guest policy. I had an issue one night with a girl because her I'd had just expired. They refused to let her in.

Sorry no pics of this place. The other pics I took with my phone at the beginning of my trip. The rest of my pics of my trip are on my camera which I lost.

It is not too far along Meralco Avenue to the hospital and you have 3 big malls and lots of restaurants nearby.

Depends on the standard you want but Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn on each side of Robinsons Galleria would be good (Holiday Inn is much cheaper).

Myself and everyone I've spoken to who has stayed at Linden Suites says the shower drains are dog slow (otherwise a nice place). Also check Astoria Plaza Ortigas, I think both places are $80-$100 / night.

However, right now much of the ADB avenue side of the mall is closed off on each floor due to the 20M fire damage from around 3 weeks ago. Renovations are underway but we all know how long these can take. The mall has a really strong all-pervasive smell of burnt plastic etc so it is not an enjoyable place to visit right now.

Stayed here for almost a week last month, after reading that there's no air-con in the living room of the 1BR's I booked a studio room. Had a room on the back side of the complex, it was a bit worn, but very quiet. Overall it wasn't a bad place. I walked around the area at various times of the day / night and had no issues (other than the usual street kids and touts).

Tropicana Apartments, Guerrero Street, Malate.

http://tropicanasuites.com.ph/home.php

The wifi is strong and relatively fast, but you must log in and use an odd username / password on a website. Everytime you log out or re-start your computer, you must log into the same website again in order to get access. Also, you cannot log in with more than one device at a time.Had the same issues, but also a lot of problems logging on. That could have been due to the typhoon that had passed through, but the few times I did manage to log on the service was very fast. It just got annoying when I would lose the connection and it would take 10-15 tries to get back on.

Free hotel breakfast is provided next door at Mr. Poon's Fish restaurant.Breakfast is no longer served at Mr. Poon's, they've gone back to serving it in a converted conference room on the 2nd floor. Small fixed menu: eggs, pancakes, bacon or ham, a few Filipino dishes, fresh fruit (usually just bananas, but one morning they had some mangos) , toast, fresh brewed coffee and juice. Not a lot of choices, but it was fairly good and the portions were a decent size.

If in the area, do try Mr. Poon's for lunch or dinner, the food there is quite good and reasonably priced (and the waitresses aren't too hard to look at either, LOL)

Door security is good about everything, including going to Pedro Gil and getting me a metered taxi (not a hotel taxi) when I need to depart. And very girl-friendly.As mentioned, the door guards are great, not long before they know you're name and greet you personally. No issues bringing in one girl or several girls. They will call up to the room to make sure all is well when a girl departs too.

In addition they have a small parking area in the courtyard (driveway's on the left side of the main entrance) , which can be handy if you have girl visiting who has her own car. One of my girls did and about 3-4 hours before her arrival I informed the guards, they not only kept a space reserved for her, but also assisted her as she parked. From the courtyard there's a set of stairs leading up to the 2nd floor, so you can avoid having to walk back around to the main entrance, but that back entrance is only open from 8am to 8pm.

I'm looking for budget hotels in Ermita or Pedro Gil area, around 20-30usd per night. I'll be paying cash so I won't have any of the internet discounts available. So far I have some pension, apartelle's, boarding house type accommodations that I've looked into which fit my needs just fine. I've stayed in places like this before in Cebu without problems but I've never been to Manila and these parts especially are a bit of a concern when it comes to things like theft. I've done a search but have come up with little info which is why I'm asking here.

My main concern is being able to leave my belongings in the room while I'm out all day. I've heard of groups staying in hotels as guests and stealing stuff from other rooms, to be a regular thing there. I'm also concerned about staff going through guests belongings or people walking in off the street taking stuff from peoples rooms. I've been around parts of the Philippines and Malaysia with my passport, travel docs and around 500-1kusd in my bag but the high crime rate in Manila makes me wonder if it's safer to leave my valuables in the room or take them around with me.

Not sure why you're walking around phils with 1000USD in your bag or leaving it laying around a room without a safe in it. You can always leave it in the safe at the front desk (assuming your hostel has one). When you say you want a cheap place to sleep, you are also saying you are willing to have less security. Cake? I stay at duck inn cheap room is 1300 pso in room safe and good food, and I would say very safe place to stayGreat choice for the budget-minded. On Del Pilar, a block north of Padre Faura, and just a block or two from Southern Cross. For p100 more, you get a larger room. The smaller room is very cramped. Walk out of Duck Inn, turn right onto Del Pilar, walk about 5 blocks and you're at MBC (I think).

Be forewarned there is no elevator, so if you have lots of luggage, you will have some lugging to do. Also, the Ermita Islamic Foundation is upstairs, next door. Although I did not experience it, I think WC reported annoying call to prayer at odd hours. There may be some luck of the draw as to which room you get.

Thanks for the info. I agree. I'm looking at airbnb now. Very good options. My only fear is, are they girl friendly. I looked at older post and you mentioned Belton Place in Makati. That was exactly what i have planned to book now .can you confirm if Belton place was girl friendly., the rates are super low and even if it is not girl friendly, I'm inclined to stay there for first few days and look around for girl friendly options. For the benefit of members, be careful of Belton place with the guy named Melvin in airbnb for manila accomodation, The guy is trying to deal outside airbnb with inflated prices and double booking on various sites, I had a nightmare dealing with this guy. After I booked on his condo, then had to cancel it and re-book it on other place. I booked at the beacon condo in makati. Will review once I complete the stay. Thanks

I concur. When I was there everything worked: A / C, hot water, TV, bed springs, door lock.Oops. No bed springs: as with most cheap Phils hotels, only a foam mattress. I slept okay on it, but who doesn't after a great round of sex? Rooms also have small refrigerators.

They have a very narrow stair very hard to climb and their room smell so bad I check in at midnight and check out at 8am and look for another hotel, yes if you are on a tight budget and can stand the smell then go for it.

.can you confirm if Belton place was girl friendly.I believe all the places listed in airbnb are privately owned properties. For instance at Belton Place you may find several condos on offer, each by a separate landlord, and thus each may have his / her own lease terms. You'll have to ask the landlord; if you're concerned you may want to mention to the landlord there are two (or more) occupants intending to stay there. But really the landlord has little way to police this, and it isn't the guards' job to do so. My friends who stayed there faced no restriction whatsoever bringing female guests and also there was no additional charge for doing so. I reckon one may run into problems if one is renting one room in a 2- or 3-bedroom unit and thus sharing the place with others, one of whom may be the owner. For your own privacy I'd advise not sharing a place.

I read your follow on report about the hassles with Melvin. The advantage of using airbnb is that a process exists to cancel your stay and obtain a refund. I think one could have a much harder time doing so if one were to get a condo through craigslist (CL) or sulit. I found my place on CL and all-in-all I'm very pleased. The only hassle is when something breaks, like the air conditioner, it takes the landlord 3 days to get it replaced. Obviously if you are in a hotel the management would simply move you to another room to resolve the issue to your satisfaction.

The place is an old stand-by for many of us. On Bocobo, across the street from Robinson's. Nothing fancy about the place. P1750 for a Deluxe room. Wifi was fair (that means pilipine slow, but steady). Unfortunately for the wifi you must log into a website with a username / PW each time, and you can only use it on one device at a time. If you leave your computer / phone hooked to the wifi and don't use it, after a while it logged me off. Room features: bed, mirror, shower, separate ante-room when you walk in (there seems to be no purpose for this room. About 5'x5', small counter, no furniture, no electrical outlets or mirror, nothing on the wall). Breakfast included in the price of the room, nice restaurant area, about 10 items to order from on the menu (no kidding, frankfurters was one of them). It would have been nice to sit and sip some morning coffee and read their room-supplied newspaper, but the paper is a business newspaper (the 'business-mirror'?) , and everything in it was akin to reading the Wall Street Journal. Several of the waitresses were real lookers, and I made some small time with 3 of them, but their engrish was muy limited.

Checking in / out was fairly time-consuming (no kidding. 18 minutes to check out; I remember it because they have 6 clocks on the wall behind the receptionist showing various world-city times). They not only had to call upstairs to have someone inventory the fridge, but my payment was handed to a cashier in a separate room (along with several other departing customers) , who was busy taking care of other business. On the bright side, the staff was cheerful and helpful.

Some members have been PMing me asking about hotels in Manila.

I have usually directed them to Travelbook, so I thought other guys might like to see this link too regarding an update for 2014.

It covers other places too but you can filter for Manila if you want and parts of Manila too.

Looks like Travelbook. Ph has very good rates for hotels in the Phil.

If I want to stay near the bars area on P Burgos St, which part of manila should I search for?

Any recommendations for convenience and good values?

Plenty to chose from much depends on budget and taste. My personal choice would be St Giles but others like Tune, Howzat (See WC; s FR a while back) , Makati Palace, Oxford Suites (needs TLC IMHO) , even some have preferred the Clipper or City Garden or even the Durban.

Lots to chose from so as I said, budget is a big factor here.

There is also a 24 hour Hooters there at the mall. The Tyme bar is across the street also on Makati Avenue. It is a late night disco / club. Not really working girls but it can be fun. Plenty of places to eat and its a 15min or so walk to Greenbelt.

Many thanks to our bros Hutsori and Wicked Roger for the info.

The Makati Palace looks pretty good, only half a block South of P Burgos. Rooms looks fairly large. Rate is about PhP 2500 or US$60. Not bad at all.

The Clipper looks like a smaller boutique hotel; the single room looks tiny, like a jail cell with a single bed. It did not list rack rate, so a little haggling may produce the significantly lower Pinoys' rate.

Both places are right next to P Burgos. That area also shows quite a few restaurants, so it should help maximize my sexy funs in Manila. Hehe.

Thanks a lot, bros. You guys are precious. When I am ready to go I will try to hook up. Will at least buy the bros a few drinks and hang out.

I used to spend a lot of time in China and Hong Kong, but costs have gone up a lot in the last 2 years, and it's not easy to find girls who will spend the nights. I had much better times in Manila. It's easier to find good-looking girls in Manilla and costs are lower. Only if I could find better foods around Makati, it would be perfect.

In China, there are live seafood restaurants everywhere. The foods are very good and cheap. All inclusive sea food, meat and drinks at a teppanzaki chain costs only around $15.

located on eduque ave, just off makati avenue, walking on makati ave its two blocks past the corner of makati / burgos. previously the best western (bw is now next to, or part of, a venue). looking across the street from the front door of the hotel is millenium.

i think the hotel changed hands about 3 years ago. i stayed in the place previously when it was bw. it is somewhat improved in looks and nicer rooms. the room was more plush this time, large bed and sitting area; its a somewhat classier place. there is an indoor pool, but the water was too cold to stay in (possibly it had just been filled). i was on floor 20 and had a nice view. i noticed a data port by the desk and hooked into that, and got very good internet speed. front desk and door security were top-notch. door guys collected the i'd of every girl entering. i paid just at $60 / night total (no breakfast). easy walk to kalayaan and burgos. there is a breakfast at the hotel but i didn't try it. plenty of different kinds of eats in the area. given the price / location, i give it a thumbs-up, will stay there again.

location problem (temporary). walking out of the hotel, turning right on makati ave, heading to kalayaan and burgos. just before kalayaan is construction (an overpass you cross under). traffic is squeezed down a lane, and especially at night it seems dangerous under that overpass for walking. poorly lit and too many vehicles crowding, right at the corner of makati ave and kalayaan.

attached pics are view from the street, and view from my window.

The smaller cell-like one goes for p1300 or so, and they will drop the rate for a multi-day stay. Two or four of that type of room there. The larger standard room is decently sized and is approx. P1800.

I reported on this place after my first trip, but I stayed there again on my return trip. I reported before they have their basic rooms at 1700php and then an upgrade to the next room is only 2000php. There is a significant difference between the two rooms and it is better to spend the little extra. However they have another suite that is suppose to be better and I believe it is 2500php or close too it. When I checked in last time they made a mistake and booked me for that room and they let me pay the 2000php price and a room change the next day if I wanted too, which I did. The room that cost more was considerably smaller. I'm not sure if it was because it was a corner room, but definitely go for the 2000php room if you stay there. They are sticklers on I'd and examine it so make sure the girl has her info right. The desk people are great otherwise and their kitchen cooks some really good food.

Bayview Park Hotel had not heard of them when information at the airport calledI like this hotel. Stayed there many times. For the best rates you need to book on Asiatravel. Com

Pros,

1. Nice clean room.

2. In room safe. Coffee pot with coffee and tea.

3. Nice breakfast buffet included for 2 people. Always book for 2. Same price for 1 or 2.

4. Big bathroom with large tub. Plenty of hot water.

5. Security is tight.

6. Daily newspaper.

7. Lots of restaurants and fast food outlets nearby. Nice location, walking distance to LA cafe. You can walk back any time of the night along side of roxas blvd. Do not walk back on Del pilar.

8. If you are taking swagman bus to AC, swagman hotel is just around the corner.

Cons,

1. This is a family friendly hotel. So you might get a curious look from lot of people at breakfast if you are with a girl or girls.

2. Security is very strict at night. Cannot bring 2 girls at night. Daytime is ok.

3. No free wi-fi.

4. Pool is too small.

Ended up at the Eurotel and I moved rooms three times. The mildew smell from the first room was dreadful. The bellhop denied it and put on the AC, covering the smell. Only later when I used the bathroom did I realize how bad it was.

The next day I changed rooms. The first one in the "old part" of the hotel was dreadful (and I am more cost conscious than picky on accommodations). The best they showed me was a smoking I room, which didn't have that bad a smell. Only two hours later I found out the hot water pipe did not flow. Not the usual weak hot water for this hotel, NO hot water.

So they moved me to another room, which after the Supervisor left, I realized the safe didn't work. Again, had to move. Lost 2 hours in this process. Yes, the staff was that slow in addressing the shower and then moving me.

Now I am in an upgraded non-smoking room, but now my eyes are tearing as if smoke is seeping into the room.

Not to forget the lack of room windows and the buffet consists of horrible eggs, fried fish, chicken and rice.

You can't beat the location across the street from Robinson's, but it is simply not worth it.

Now in the Victoria Court de Malate. Not centrally located in Malate, but nice rooms for the money more than make up for the P50 cab fare to Robinsons or Manila Bay Café.

You didn't mention the price, but the web site says 2, 100 for the Malate / Pedro Gil branch. A very clunky web site, BTW. I think CS has reported on Eurotel before, but I'm not sure which branch he uses.

On the opposite side of the mall is the Cherry Blossom hotel. Has anyone been there recently? http://www.cherryblossomshotel.com.ph/ The rooms apparently start at 1750, but the small print says "effective as of 2011". LOL.

On the Manila thread someone called Swagman a dump. That has been reported on ISG several times, but maybe it was way way back. You would have thought that they could have done some renovation by now. I did enjoy breakfast there once, and of course they offer the much appreciated Fly the Bus to AC and Subic. The web site says 2250 for a room. http://www.swaggy.com/rooms-and-rates/

Any and all hotel reviews are appreciated. No offense to Cm, but please include the cost. Better yet, include a picture! I think CS has taken us to Europe several times with some of his Eurotel hotel room pictures.

Rothman Hotel, Ermita.

Stayed there in early December. Promo rate for a deluxe room (queen bed) at the time was 2, 350p +tax. 2 pax, breakfast included; regular rate was about 2, 650p +tax.

Good sized room, about 30sqm, very clean (but a bit on the worn side) , well lit, air-con was efficient and quiet;

Large safety box / safe, no problem holding a 15" laptop;

Bathroom was small, but not cramped; hot, not warm water, good pressure, tub instead of usual walk-in shower;

Strong and fast WiFi, but only one device can be connected at a time (their website says there's an extra charge, it's included in the room price, they've changed their policy and not updated the website, but you may want to confirm) ;

Mini fridge (empty, not a mini bar) , hot water kettle (tea and instant coffee provided) , two 1/2 liter bottles of water provided daily (if they remember, LOL) ;

32" LED TV with about 90 channels;

Breakfast was from a set menu, cooked to order, usual eggs, pancakes, bacon, ham, toast, etc as well as various Filipino items. Nothing special, but not bad either and the fresh brewed coffee was very good!

The bed was fairly comfortable, typical 4" foam mattress; blackout curtains were nice if you wanted to sleep in and like a dark room. Considering my room faced Adriatico St it was reasonably quiet, but if you're a light sleeper you may want to request a room on the other side.

No issues bringing in ladies (one or more) , security only asked once for I D and I suspect she was a well known regular (from MBC). They always called upon the ladies' departure to check if all was ok.

Over all my stay there wasn't bad and I would definitely stay again.

I texted them back why as I was coming there now. They said they had no rooms and wouldn't tell me anything more. I got back there and asked in person why. They told me someone who was staying there extended their stay and refused to leave. It was cheaper back then than I believe than the prices quoted below. I don't care for that type of management. They had my contact information obviously and if they were worried I wouldn't show up they could have just asked me. I have to be a little picky about where I stay for a variety of reasons and that just won't do in my book.

Not centrally located in Malate, but nice rooms for the money more than make up for the P50 cab fare to Robinsons or Manila Bay Café.Eurotel is very much along the lines of the Sogo hotels. Couples who need a room for action don't really want or need windows. Most hotels in this equatorial climate can be a little musty until the air con is booted up. Sounds like the management went to great lengths to please you judging the dizzying number of room moves, gosh. Across the street you have City State hotel, a clean, relatively classy & consistent place.

Rothman Hotel, Ermita.

Stayed there in early December. Promo rate for a deluxe room (queen bed) at the time was 2, 350p +tax. 2 pax, breakfast included; regular rate was about 2, 650p +tax.

Good sized room, about 30sqm, very clean (but a bit on the worn side) , well lit, air-con was efficient and quiet;

Large safety box / safe, no problem holding a 15" laptop;

Bathroom was small, but not cramped; hot, not warm water, good pressure, tub instead of usual walk-in shower;

Strong and fast WiFi, but only one device can be connected at a time (their website says there's an extra charge, it's included in the room price, they've changed their policy and not updated the website, but you may want to confirm) ;

Mini fridge (empty, not a mini bar) , hot water kettle (tea and instant coffee provided) , two 1/2 liter bottles of water provided daily (if they remember, LOL) ;

32" LED TV with about 90 channels;

Over all my stay there wasn't bad and I would definitely stay again.

http://www.rothmanhotel.com/index.phpGood old Rothman. Stayed overnight once on the spur of the moment pickup of a date in Asia chick. The room stank strongly of cigarettes, was quite old but in working order. Air con was feeble but worked enough. All in all you can do better for the money. Have a look at City State, its relatively classy has excellent security on the front door & as long you're not a cheapskate you can have as many women as you want. (My personal record was 4. All at the same time).

Nice FR. Stayed there several times in the $55-60 range. Nice place and breakfast. Security can be too tight. They go further than taking the girl's I'd, they forced me to register each girl I brought in, and they never let me bring in two girls at once. For the same price, try Executive Plaza. The trick is if you want more than one girl get them during daytime. Security is not all strict daytime because they have conferences and girls walk in and out all the time. Security gets very strict after 10 PM. Couple of times they did not stop me when I brought in two girls. Yes, sometimes they did ask me to register the girl but it was no problem because I booked for two persons. No extra charge.

At the same bringing different girls is not a problem. More and more this hotel caters to local people.

I guess they do not it to be known as monger hotel.

Problem with executive Plaza is employees are snobbish and not friendly. Once I had a confirmed reservation and they told me there were no rooms available. So me and my GF that time had to call Asiatravel and they booked at Palm Plaza which is just around the corner. Rooms were clean and nice but air con no good.

Has anyone been there recently?

http://www.cherryblossomshotel.com.ph/

The rooms apparently start at 1750, but the small print says "effective as of 2011".

I think CS has taken us to Europe several times with some of his Eurotel hotel room pictures.Never stayed at Swagman but spent a couple hours there waiting for their bus to AC once. Calling it a dump is probably a but uncharitable. Let's just say you get what you pay for. A bit low rent & full of older lower working class gents who are unwilling to pay more. If you're not proud & want cheap it has its place.

I've been away from the Phil's for a couple if years burying various members of my family but heading back in April to stay for a year or two so hopefully I can update my impressions if some of these establishments over the next couple of months

Try Makati as that gets you close as on the search I did it popped a few hotel on Burgos.

http://www.travelbook.ph/philippines/metro_manila/makati/?stayYear=2014&stayMonth=1&stayDay=17&stayCount=1&reShFlg=1&activeSort=0

Lots to chose from so as I said, budget is a big factor here.Great Eastern & Makati Prime Towers are handy to P. Burgos bars. Don't expect to much if you need a lower cost place to be they're passable.

What you just described is absolutely standard operating procedure all over the Phil's.

Take a breath & relax. Accept that this is how they do things.

Does anyone have any contacts / info on short term monthly rental condo in Manila. Budget around 20 to 25K. ThanksContact Rocky Abino at Goldrock Realty. He manages privately let condos all around Manila. This is much cheaper & more comfortable than hotels long term. His business is legit & worry free.

I have stay at Eurotel don't think you will like it the double bed is small and hard very basic no frig and mini bar and the breakfast sucks. Cherry blossom is old dump there 10 yr ago it is a dump then never stay at the Swagman but it is in a bad area of town, if you are in a budget I can recommend Las Palmas, Rodman inn or the Rivera mansion for around 2000p a night.

I stayed at the Best Western La Corona hotel for two weeks. The hotel is on Del Pilar just a few blocks from Robinsons Mall and, more importantly, MBC. I liked the location as I was doing some work not too far from the area, so that meant I didn't have to spend too much time commuting. I also knew that MBC would be my primary venue most evenings so again, the location was great.

I paid 2500php for what I think they called a 'deluxe' room, not the basic one but not a suite.

The hallways of the hotel were a bit dated, but the room was renovated and quite nice. It's not a five-star place, but the price isn't either. I think it's a nice balance of price and quality.

They tried to charge me for a slightly late checkout, but after I spoke with the manager they backed off. Still, it's something to be aware of if you have an evening flight out. At the very least, it's best to ask ahead (as I did) to get it all worked out ahead of time.

No problem with girls of course-though I never tried more than one at a time.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd stay there again or if I'd go for one of the more basic places closer to the mall. I mean, the girls liked the room but they didn't seem to care that much, and I'm not really picky. Still, it was clean, affordable and not a bad location. So I could certainly recommend it.

1. Location.

2. Best breakfast buffet.

3. Chica friendly.

4. No girl can come up to the room unless you come downstairs and escort them. No I. The check.

5. Area is quite safe. Plenty of people around all hours.

Cons,

1. Hotel is on del Pilar. Very noisy. All jeepney go through on that street. Windows are not sound proof.

2. Outdated hotel and outdated rooms. Although clean sheets, bed covers, bed are not good. Shower fittings rusty. Sometimes you get brown colored water obviously from the rust inside the pipes.

3. Toilets do not flush easily. Need to flush many times. Water pressure is low.

4. They have window air conditioners which are noisy and very inefficient.

5. Squeaky old elevator.

6. Prices used to be better but now it is expensive not worth the quality.

6. Prices used to be better but now it is expensive not worth the quality.I don't know if I just got lucky or if the place has been renovated since you were there, but my room was obviously renovated recently. The bathroom was brand new and contemporary in style, and the fixures were definitely not rusty. (Though there was a sign near the sink saying not to drink the water, not that I would have tried.) The shower had a rain faucet and I don't like those. I wouldn't say the water pressure was good, but it wasn't horrible either. I had no problems with the toilet or with brown water.

The bed was very comfortable with a new-looking mattress, and that's one thing I'm really picky about.

Sorry I didn't snap any photos of my room, but the photos on the website are recent and accurate.

The windows in my room also seemed to be new. I wouldn't have considered my room facing Del Pilar to be noisy, but it is a city after all. And I live in a busy city so maybe I'm just used to the noise. But the windows did seem new so I think they're probably improved.

The hallways are dated and cheap looking. And I forgot about the elevator. It looked brand new but I suspect they only renovated the inside. It was kind of slow. But I usually take the stairs, I was only on the third floor.

I'm not disagreeing with your sentiment though. It's probably not worth the extra money over some of the lower priced options in the area. The rooms are quite nice now though. I had wondered about bringing a girl to a really cheap, crappy room so that's why I went for this place. The girls seemed to like it, but frankly now that I know the scene I don't think they would have cared. Next time I'll probably stay closer to the mall and MBC, which also means I'd be closer to the Pedro Gill LRT station which got me to work every day.

Yes they have wall ACs and I complained (although it worked just fine and wasn't noisy) that after putting all the money into renovation they should have changed to central air.

That didn't get me any dirty looks. It got me the manager who gave me a 50%discount on my next stay.

I had a deluxe room at about $45 a night plus 12. 6% tax and 10% Agoda service charge. There are standard rooms about $10 to $12 less.

Positives: Very spacious. 35 sq. Meters, with both a queen and double bed. A small bar refrigerator plus a bigger one in a kitchenette area. Unlike many cheaper Manila hotels, both beds had decent innerspring mattresses. Has a swimming pool, but substantially smaller than at the neighboring Oasis Paco Park Hotel. Comfortable furniture and lots of storage. My room, with windows onto a central courtyard, had virtually no street noise. KTV on the ground floor, but didn't check for take-out. Hotel is girl-friendly. Four blocks to UN Avenue LRT via General Luna and about five to Pedro Gil LRT via Padre Faura and Taft. Saw virtually no beggars, and only pedicab drivers calling out for business, and they were not insistent like in Ermita's red light district.

Negatives: Probably once a nice hotel, but now a little worn. Paid WiFi only, and then only in the second floor lounge, which is not well lit. They charge for using the room safe. 2000 peso deposit for bedding, towels, glasses, etc, refunded at departure. Promptness to requests phoned to front desk was inconsistent. No hot water in bathroom except for point-of-use heater in the tub / shower. Tub, apparently retro-fitted into a former shower, created problems climbing in and out as it was probably installed six to eight inches higher than normal to accommodate a bottom drain above floor level. Restaurants in this and Oasis hotel; otherwise few nearby eateries. Restaurant in the hotel, Old Swiss Inn, was over-priced and service was slow. Entrees short on meat and long on mushrooms. Restaurant in Oasis may be better. McDonalds and Jollibee near UN Avenue LRT, KFC and Mercury drugs three blocks away at Padre Faura and Taft. Otherwise only a string of seven nearly identical Filipino eateries, open only during the day, on the way to McDonalds. Small 7-11 and another convenience store near Jollibee. Eight blocks to Robinson's Place Mall, nine to G-Point, and then another five or so to LA Café and Amazonia. Taxi recommended if you pick up a p4p at one of these places.

General: The two hotels are on a circular drive, Belen Street, around Paco Park. The Park was created as a cemetery in the early 1800s, with bodies buried horizontally in two concentric concrete walls around the park. Inside the walls are a historic old chapel and a site where Jose Rizal was buried for 15 days immediately after his execution (1896). Friends carried his remains there to hide them from the Spanish, then dug them up and took them to the family home in Binondo.

The hotel has a walk-up special for 1660 pesos (plus tax) for a standard room (a double and single bed) with no windows, but includes set breakfast. This is not a convenient location for mongering, although it's quieter and probably safer than the Ermita monger hotels nearer LA Café. I wanted to stay at the Oasis but Agoda had sold out. Garden Plaza served my needs for close access to LRT and quiet, but failed on other counts.

Side note: LRT 1 is an increasingly crowded and unpleasant ride.

Paco Park Oasis Hotel has some unique rooms. I think I posted a few picture of the pink room many years ago.

The pictures included a very attractive women that I met at Jurassic Park (now renamed, across the street from MBC / LAC). She was dancing up on stage looking gorgeous. When I asked the mama to call her down, she said,"that's my friend, she's just visiting." No barfine. We were off. It was fun. Very fun. She came back for more fun. She's now happily married in a first world country and it seems she's enjoying life. It was kind of sad when she blocked me from FB, but I guess that's to be expected.

Back to then, I gave her 2k for taxi fare. She said it was too much, but I insisted that she could use the money to come back anytime. And she did. Sometime you have to be creative about the compensation. Anyone who is paying less than 1k for excellent service in Manila is probably someone I would call "richard". The nickname, of course. No offense to you Ricks and Dicks. X Man.

Thanks for the excellent review SK. I looked at this place when I stayed next door at PP, but got creeped out by the large number of FilFamilies.

I was probably the most embarrased when I rode an elevator up with a Westerner and his tranny friend. AAAwkward. I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing."she" was kind of sexy. I hope he enjoyed himself.

Other awkward, but funny, moment include an elderly Japanese who has two super cutes, and one translator. As I exited the elevator, I said in Japanese,"your J is great."

The only time I feel shame is when some weirdo is having breakfast at the next table and his girl is hotter than mine. On one of those occasions when my girl was hotter, the weirdo took my toilet break as a chance to slip my girl his phone number. Points for her for telling me. It's more fun in the Philippines.

Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and give some feedback! I will be in Manila for the first time in May. Been to Thailand many times before so not a newbie on the P4P scene. Would like to ask for some opinions on the following hotels in Makati. Cost is not an issue. Location, service, pool and ease of access with guests are the most important factors. I can get a room upgrade at Peninsula and free breakfast for two with Amex FHR so that's a good option. I have a good buddy who has a residence at Raffles and we will be hanging out together. Isn't Fairmont / Raffles the same hotel? Worth the difference to stay at Raffles? All opinions are appreciated! I've included room rates for reference from all the places I've researched.

New World $150 p / and USD.

Holiday Inn & Suites $135

Mandarin Oriental $125

Shangri-La $250

Peninsula $250

Fairmont $220

Raffles $320.

With all due respect I hope you are not the first class flyer, first class hotel guy looking for bargain basement priced pussy and taxi rides. I detest such people.

My advice is to drop down a notch on the hotel cost, use the extra money tipping the pussy, taxis and other service people.

Most high end hotels are girl friendly if you take the time to slip the doorman a nice tip before you go out hunting. Even better to learn his name. Upon arrival back, just say. Hello Joe, this is my friend and head for the elevator.

If cost is no issue what is the real question here? Why even list the prices?

With all due respect I hope you are not the first class flyer, first class hotel guy looking for bargain basement priced pussy and taxi rides. I detest such people.Good advice Dg but he has asked before in his 10 posts (1 was a repeat) and has no PM either. See below for a sample.

I always think the way to chose an hotel is to look at the reviews on various web sites and RTFF on ISG as many have been covered in earlier FRs but seems this was not done. After that make a decision and maybe ask the odd point of clarification.

Here is what has been asked before BTW over the last 3 years.

I've been to AC a few times. Not really sure why that matters? Anyway a few suggestions as to daytime activities in AC are welcomed!
Who's got the best pool in Angeles? Not much else to do during the day!
Hi Guys,

Will be arriving in Bangkok Feb 28 for 2 weeks. So excited! Have been doing a lot of reading and research of the ISG website lately (what a wealth of information.) Just paid the $20 to Jackson so I can have all the features available.

Will be in Thailand for 2 weeks total traveling with a buddy. Planning a visit to Bangkok, Pattaya and Koh Samui.

Hello Joe, this is my friend and head for the elevator. No need to do any such thing. Don't forget that any one hotel there may well be several doormen, (New World has 5) plus assorted bellmen, doorgirls. Theres no need for such largesse as they arent security and don't decide who gains entry or doesn't. A normal guy who is a registered resident of a hote with a girl at his side attracts no attention whatsoever. A guy who is loud, drunk, flashy with a girl in a mini skirt and boobs on display attracts lots of attention, generally negative. Depends who you are and who you go with but in most cases, everyone entering and leaving is just another " joe ".

Shangri-La $250.

Peninsula $250.

Fairmont $220.

Raffles $320.I stay at the Fairmont almost every week, and it's become my default hotel in Manila / Makati. I changed to the Fairmont from the Shangri-La because I think the service is better, the hotel more comfortable, and the amenities and rooms comparable. If your friend has an apartment at Raffles, then I suggest you stay at the Fairmont, which occupies the same structure. The difference between the two, Fairmont and Raffle, is that Raffles is all condominiums, some of which are rented by the day as with hotels. All amenities-both pools, the dining rooms, the Long Bar-are accessible to the guests of either place.

I too have a good friend who has a condo at Raffles. They're very nice and quite spacious and luxurious. However, for a short-term stay, I don't believe that the difference in price between Raffles and Fairmont is worth it, but that's a personal point of view. My company has a contract with the Fairmont and we get an excellent deal on the rooms, which we would likely not get at Raffles, so for me there's an even greater advantage.

I was wondering if anyone has any info on the Midas Hotel in Pasay. It looks like it is close to the airport, close to the mall (free shuttle) , Internet, and Breakfast.

Thanks in advance.

I was wondering if anyone has any info on the Midas Hotel in Pasay.I was just thinking about the same thing earlier today. I haven't actually stayed there, so these are just observations from the neighborhood. It is just a few blocks from the EDSA International Entertainment Complex, which contains 5-10 girlie bars with attractive girls. The two other hotels I know about in the area are Heritage and Copacabana, which are even closer to the complex, but subject to heavy noise (and air) pollution from the EDSA road. Since trucks are banned in the daytime they drive at night, and ensure that there is plenty of noise around the clock. Plenty. I was wondering whether Midas might be a little quieter. It doesn't seem to have a pool, which I would like to have.

Does anyone know of a hotel which has a private Jacuzzi in the room?

The only hotel I have stayed in is the Lotus Garden in Ermita, it has a largish Jacuzzi in a public area, which is very nice for relaxation, but I would like to find somewhere that I could have more intimate fun with my girl!

The closest hotel to the MOA is Microtel and it would be cheaper than Midas. It has a smallish pool on the roof.

I stayed there about 5 nights. I checked out earlier than scheduled due to no wifi. Also the place is a bit dumpy and no fridge. They kept giving me the run around about the wifi, but I confronted the manager and he admitted that they need to upgrade their equipment. The wifi is spotty at times but not good enough to claim they have it. I wouldn't stay there again. I guess it's low budget for a reason. I read some reviews about it on here or some other forum. It sounded like a good deal and a good location (Mabini st). About a 5 minute walk to Robinson Mall.

I had data on my phone, but that didn't work most of the time in my room either. I asked the people at the place where I got my sim card and service about my connection issues and there response was "this is the Philippines". I took my laptop to the mall and got wifi there.

I booked through Agoda and they gave me a refund for the night I didn't stay. I did not ask for it or in any way blame them for the lame accommodations. I just told them about my issues and that I was looking for another hotel. With service like that I will definitely consider them in my future bookings.

Just spent 9 nights at Las Palmas Hotel in Malate. Price was 2600pesos / night. I booked directly with the front desk. Location is great, can easily walk to Robinson's Ermita and MBC (Manila Bay Cafe). Security is good, they take the girl's I'd until she leaves. Non-smoking rooms are on the 4th floor only. The better rooms are on the "bay side". I initially had room 422, which is the last room in the back; then transferred to room 505, which is on the "bayside", looks larger, the A / C is great. The metered taxi was less than 150pesos from the airport to the hotel. In the evening, if you want to go to the EDSA complex, the metered taxi was 96pesos. Some nights it was 120 pesos. Do NOT try to leave the hotel via taxi between 6p and 7. 30p. Traffic is horrendous and some drivers will refuse to take you. This was my first trip back in 5 years, and many of the front desk staff are the same.

rgthis is where i bookend my twice yearly visits to phils, and my comments may be coloured by having developed a good relationship with some of the front of house staff.

the apparent reduction on agoda is bs, but their price is comparable to other sites, including the hotel site.

convenient for nightlife, but be aware when cutting through from mabini to del pilar as some of the side streets look dodgy.

my random thoughts:

check in. probably on par with most. they do advertise overnight guest fees {and i have been told charge them} but i have had no problem. maybe because i book double occupancy.

deposit 1000p for minibar. check out sluggish due to needing to check minibar. never had problem with return of deposit.

lobby bar good for coffee / drink and watch world go by, insulated from outside. bartenders good guys. sometimes seem to use interns {probably local hrm students] which can make service erratic. occasional breakfast is mainly filipino with decent selection, if repetitive. western breakfast limited to fried / scrambled eggs. only tried restaurant meal once and was ok. menu choice can be ordered as bar snack.

only one elevator off lobby which doubles as service elevator, so can be slow. business centre hours limited and i have not used it for several years. have seen people using wifi in lobby, but no idea what strength or speed there or in room.

rooms have digital safes. seem to have converted all tv to flat screen, with wide selection of channels, including korean japanese etc. some a / see units showing signs of age, but do work. room card required to turn on lights. fridge may be hidden in cupboard, and don't expect nibbles to be replaced. cheaper from 7/11 50 yards up road. i have seen pizza delivery boys walking through the lobby. hot water and electricity seem reliable, althiugh hot water temp can fluctuate slightly if somebody else turns it on. some of the bathrooms could be better lit to aid shaving. also had difficulty finding socket outside of bathroom for kettle. only 2 sachets of coffee per day, so might be worth buying your own. morning paper left outside room.

hope this helps, and might i suggest visiting g-point for their buffet lunch and draft craft beers, if that's your thing. they do a privilege card for both. buy 10 get 2 free.

happy hunting

2. Swagman Hotel, offers three buses per day from Manila to Angeles, at 11. 30am. 3.30pm and 8. 30pm.

3. Adriatico St, gives you access to dozen's of other hotels, of all price ranges, within walking distance (if you have to change hotels, like I did).

Manila Hotels I Stayed At:

Rothmans Hotel

With 92 rooms (www.rothmanhotel.com&#8206, it is located in downtown Manila in Ermita / Malate (1633 M. Adriatico St, Malate, Metro Manila) and is situated close to most everything within a 5-10 min walk. Its about 5-min. Walk to LA Cafe and 5-min to Robinsons Mall. The standard room I booked for P2125 (Deluxe) , through there online reservation system was for 1-night ONLY. Basically wanted to first get a feel for the hotel, before booking further dates. It is a popular hotel with several ISG members and seems to be well booked by the general public. Unfortunately, I couldn't secure a 2nd day's stay, as there was no availability at all. So you may want to book this hotel, early!

Very spacious rooms with lots of linen storage, closets and draws for clothes and your travel garments. Air-con, security-safe, Wi-Fi, bathtub, big size fridge with lots of space for your beer, ice, drinks, snacks and food. I thought it was so roomy and spacious, that you could host a small party and still have room to stretch your legs. Decent enough cable / TV reception, but no flat-screen TV. Didn't use the Internet, so not sure about its reliability. Nor did I use the restaurant, so no idea as to the food quality. Reception was accommodating and pleasant enough. Although some strange looks were given, when I entered the elevator with GF in hand during the afternoon or night.

Picked this hotel, due to the fact it had bathtubs. I tend to enjoy a good soak in a tub, after a long trip and it was a long trip getting to Manila. Filling up the bath tub wasn't easy, as the main tap to fill the tub wasn't fully functioning, resulting in a slow fill. The bath tub itself was fine, as was the 45min soak. Draining the tub was problematic and just as slow as the fill, as I think their plumbing leaves somewhat to be desired. Basically no return air pipe ventilation, to put downward pressure on the draining of water.

• Pros: Close proximity to LA Cafe, Robinson's Mall, ZZYZX Night Club, KTV's and the Hyatt Hotel Casino. By extension due to the fact they are located on Adriatico St, gives you access to dozen's of other hotels, with all different price ranges, within walking distance (if you have to change hotels, like I did). Their spacious rooms provide pretty good value for the money, if you can get a room for under US$50. Their online email reservation system allows you to reserve a room with no upfront VISA charge or reservation fee (also giving you the advantage to compare rates with www.agoda.com Or www.Booking.com).

• Cons: Grubby carpets, poor plumbing and no flat-screen TV (but wasn't a deal breaker, TV provided was a decent enough size).

• Recommendation: Nice little hotel (albeit a little dated) , with generous spacious and secure rooms. Would definitely stay here again.

V Hotel (formally Rainbow Hotel)

With 58 rooms (www.booking.com/hotel/ph/vhotel.en-gb.html) is located in downtown Manila in Ermita / Malate (1766 Adriatico St.) , about 2-3 blocks down the road from the Rothmans Hotel. Still fairly close to LA Cafe and Robinsons Mall, about a 8-10 minute walk. ONLY 1-night stay, cost P1700 for a Standard room, with P1000 damage deposit (returned upon departure). The Reception desk and the doormen were very, very friendly and courteous.

My room was very small and although they have slightly larger rooms, most are relatively small. Security-safe, air-con, wi-fi (common areas) , decent enough flat screen TV / Cable reception, but no mini bar or fridge. Definitely a budget / backpacker travelers hotel and it was very evident when I went to checkout the swimming pool on the top floor, I ran into a number of backpackers in small dorm type rooms on the upper floors of the hotel. Coincidently, while I was there (for all of one day) , they were running a special at the cafe / restaurant at the hotel and 1-free breakfast and 1-free lunch / dinner was included. It was a great deal and the food (which also included desert) was delicious. Nice little cafe / restaurant indeed. Did notice a few (what appeared to be) Dutch / German gay men with Pinoy Boys, at breakfast, which was strange to me at the time, but when I asked about it, I was told it's quite a normal thing at the hotel.

• Pros: Located very close to ZZYZX Night Club, KTV's and other hotels located on Adriatico St. If you're a real budget / backpacker type traveler, (I believe) dorm type rooms can be had for P1000 or less. Still close enough to the action (LA CAFE, Robinson Mall). Nice quaint cafe / restaurant. Dorm type accommodations (chance to meet other travelers).

• Cons: Small rooms, (so small, you need to go outside to change your mind. LOL!). Thin walls, (so if your GF is a screamer, then perhaps either a thicker pillow or another hotel, LOL!).

• Recommendation: Good hotel to consider if you're a little more budget minded.

Silver Oaks Suites and Hotel,

With 72 rooms (www.silveroaks.co) , it is located in downtown Manila in Ermita / Malate (1520 A. Mabini Street) and very close to LA Cafe and Robinsons Mall. ONLY 1-night stay, cost P1750 (Standard room, after 10% cash discount, VISA add back 4. Check w / front desk). Fairly clean hotel with good courteous staff. Although, I couldn't help but get the feeling, that this hotel was a real penny pinching hotel. For example, whether inadvertently or on purpose (not sure which) , but I basically had to ask several times about the free breakfast voucher. After receiving breakfast, which wasn't even anything even worthy of calling breakfast, I was sorry I even mentioned it. The soap and shampoo are dispensed from bulk containers in the shower, which can be most awkward. At breakfast when I ordered, the waitress confused my order and added juice instead of swapping the juice for the coffee, since I didn't want coffee. Anyway they decided to charge me P30 (I think it was) for the juice. I mean come on, show some customer appreciation for less than $0. 80. Anyway, I just told them to take the juice back, as I wasn't in the mood to argue or explain my position on what I'd ordered.

Reception and doormen are friendly enough. Air-con, Wi-Fi, TV / Cable, small size fridge and adequate closet space. The Standard room is a decent size and it and the bathroom were neat and clean, but small fridge and TV. However, this particular room didn't exactly make me feel secure, as the balcony / fire escape, looks easily breachable by anyone wanting to burglarize your room. I ended up using a couple of twist-ties to secure the balcony French window latches. No safe in room, but you can ask the front desk for one (not sure what that was about). Terrible and very poor cable / TV reception and a ridiculously small 15" flat-screen TV (?) , located high on the wall, nearly some 12-15 feet away, you need binoculars in order to watch the damn thing from the bed. Good thing I actually brought my binoculars, I kid you not, I've seen bigger computer screens.

In comparison with the room I initially previewed (2-min tour) , this room was OK, but seems a far cry from with I thought I had seen. DELUXE / TWIN ROOMS are a little bigger (from what I sure when housekeeping was doing checkouts) but same setup and decor.

• Pros: Very, very close to the action 1-block away from the freelancers / SW on Salsa St. And LA. Cafe.

• Cons: Management seemed to be a bit of a penny pinching type establishment. Charged 4% for using VISA to pay for the room (but did give me a 10% discount on the room). Room had no safe and didn't feel that secure. Poor cable / TV. Terrible breakfast.

• Recommendation: While not a bad hotel (slightly updated modern decor) , would try other hotels before coming here again.

Manfield, try these hotels. I've stayed in all four of them, all are located in Ermita Manila and girlfriendly. Close to the Manila Bay Cafe (formerly LA Cafe) and Robinson's Place (mall). However, no swimming pools in these hotels.

Try the Pearl Manila (not to be confused with the Pearl Lane or Pearl Garden). At the intersection of 3 streets: Taft, Gen. Luna, and United Nations (5-6 blocks east of Bayview Park hotel). It has a pool on the 9th floor, has in-room safe and wired internet connection, breakfast included for $50 net. Average hotel in average location. Lobby is also on the 9th floor, and the elevator is terribly slow. From the website:

Hi Key Master!

You got my query right. Thanks for your support.

Hey he asked about a specific hotel not advice on finding hotels below $80. Did you have any information for him on that hotel? He said he was having a tough time finding hotels in the $80-90 price range not below $80. Did you read his question or you just wanted to tell someone to RTFF to get your kicks?

To Brastav and West Coast1,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have appreciated. You are true gentlemen. However, I was looking for more information or feedback about Armada Hotel.

Either I'll stay at Armada Hotel or may be at Pan Pacific Hotel where the Superior room with breakfast has come down to $132 on both agoda and booking. Com.

Anyway, thanks once again.

Regency Grand Suites seems to be a bargain, with good reviews on Agoda, and right across the street from Robinson's Place in Ermita. Apparently, it's a fairly new hotel. Has anyone here stayed at Regency Grand Suites?

Hi ISG,

First time poster and long-time lurker. I have been a lurker because I have never been to SEA so I have no FR. This forum is awesome and I like to thank you to all the senior member for their great info. I am planning my first visit in the End of June. My first stop would be Manila Philippine. My original plan was to stay in Philippine for about 10 days and then hop over to Vietnam. I am not going to Vietnam anymore since the escalated tension between Vietnam and China. I might go to Malaysia or Thailand or stay in Philippine and enjoy alot Pinay. I don't know yet.

I am planning to stay at Rothman (thank you to Spidy for an awesome report) or Guijo Suites. I would like to stay in budget for Hotel around $40-$60USD. I am leaning toward Rothman because it have some great review on tripadvisor. I hope that is a good choice.

Thank you and Manila here I cum.

Python, I think you missed the point that Westy was trying to make. If someone posts a hotel review they should post as much relevant information as possible about the hotel. The original poster stayed there, liked it and we appreciate that he took the time to post. Nevertheless, location and a rough estimate of cost (or possibly discounts) would be beneficial. It would also save some time searching the website since it may be a bit expensive or inconveniently located for some members. I'm sure Midas is a great hotel, but considering the location and cost. Not for me. If I recall correctly, it's around 4000+ pesos and the location is on Roxas Blvd. Not too far from Mall of Asia. I guess that the location is in south Malate.

Midas Hotel is actually in Pasay City. It's just along Roxas from the Heritage Hotel EDSA corner. Quite close to the EDSA Entertainment Center. You go a long way north on Roxas right up to Vito Cruz aka P. Ocampo street before you get to Malate which, I guess, we could call South Malate.

Thank you and Manila here I cum.I just stayed at the Guijo suites for a night. It is a very pleasant, quiet, and clean hotel with modern fixtures. It has a nice little bar / resto on the main floor with a small menu, that has some rather tasty items for a reasonable price.

It's a little bit out of the way though, and I'm not sure how girl friendly they are. In the room the have a set of hotel rules, lying on the side table, that clearly states that guests are not allowed in the rooms after a certain time, I believe it was 9:00pm, unless they are regestered to the room. I'm not certain what that means as I didn't have a guest that night. The price today through agoda is about $55. 00 USD.

I use the Tune hotel a lot. The beds are very comfortable, the fixtures relatively new, the internet connection is good, and they have a nice 32 inch flat screen. They are very girl friendly. In fact one time at the tune in cebu I took 4 girls to my room for the night (long story) and all the guard did was smile.

The tune is ala carte so if you don't want it you don't have to pay for it. I book through agoda and get everything for about $38. 00, USD. If you book online through their site you can pick and choose what you want included in your hotel package.

The tunes in ermita and makate are conveniently located to all of the pooning locations as well. The ermita tune is a 5 minute walk to robinsons mall, the LA cafe, and many of the KTV's are right across the street or a short walk down A mabini street. The tune in makati is 2 blocks from P Borgos street and a short taxi ride to greenbelt, it cost me 70 p on the meter.

I just checked the price for the Tune in makati through agoda and it is about $47. 00 USD, And Ermita malate is about $44. 00 USD.

I hope this helps you, happy pooning, LAT.

Disclaimer: I do not now nor have I ever owned stock in the Tune hotel chain. I just like the place.

Bel-Air Sohotel, Makati.

I have a friend who stays at the Malate Sohotel each time he visit Manila and is always pleased with it. I just learned through a livingsocial (like groupon) ad that there's a Sohotel in Bel-Air, Makati, which is close to Burgos and the malls. The discounted tariff is p1200, reduced from p1500 for two, which even then is a good deal for the area. Here's a google map of the location, https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=14.562821,121.029254&z=14&t=m&hl=en-US&gl=US&mapclient=embed&q=Bel-Air+Soho+Manila+Philippines.

And here's the hotel's website, http://belairsohotel.webs.com/.

Cleanliness 1.0, Service 1.0, Comfort 1.0, Condition 1.0, Neighbourhood. This is a pathetic and terrible place. Is filthy and totally unsafe. There is no proper reception counter, The doors are not secured, The toilet shower is broiken, bed and uphostery smell badly. Aircond is what you see in the 70's. There is only one guy who went round cleaning the entire block and my room was not cleaned even though I pulled out the pillow case for them to changed. There are many strange men and women smoking and loitering around the main entrance of the building all the time. Suggest Expedia take this out from its listing.".

The vast majority of other reviewers say the same. Years ago I used Makati Prime Towers penthouse when I needed a cheap place to take the P4P girls but it has continued its decline & is now uninhabitable also. I suggest if you need cheap & convenient good use a Microhotel such as Tune or s Sogo. Burgos really is better experienced from a decent hotel, which will not be cheap.

I usually stay at the Fairmont, which has rapidly become my default hotel in Manila. Last night, for my last night here this week, I switched back to to Shang since I hadn't been there for a while. I was, I'll admit impressed that I was welcomed back by name as soon as I approached the check-in desk, and I was impressed with the amenities brought to my room, since evidently I've now achieved the minimum level required by the frequent guest program. My company has contracts with the Fairmont and the Shanf, so for me there's no different in price. I still admit however to a slight preference for the Fairmont though I'm not really sure why. The rooms in the Shang are a bit larger, but I think the rooms in the Fairmont are a bit nicer, and certainly newer and a bit more modern. The level of service in both places is excellent and there's not a whole lot of difference.

For those coming to Makati, and who enjoy staying in five star places, I don't think you can go wrong with either place.

I think a bit cheaper than the other 5 star hotels next to the mall and yet the location is the best. One thing I don't like is the security that is crazy. All the cars, bags etc. get screened every time. I prefer moving in and out more smoothly and that's why I prefer to stay in smaller hotels.

Some of these trained security lackeys have no idea what "discretionary check" means. That's true, and I had quite forgotten it. The security personnel were, on that single ocassion, rude and needlessly intrusive, not to me, but to my business partner. He and I both left, vowing never to return, and moved to the Shang. Though I never will return to the hotel, I reiterate that it's got a great location, the rooms are adequate, and it's a decent place to stay. Methinks GE's priorities are a bit different than yours are BS. Notwithstanding that, I've never had an eyebrow raised bringing a lady to any 4 or 5 star hotel in Manila. How we conduct ourselves and how our ladies conduct themselves in these places might influence that. I would personally be offended and make it known if any lady on my arm was stopped for an ID.

I recently spent 5 nights at the Fairmont in late April. I had a corner deluxe room on the 6th floor. My opinion is the hotel is great. My room was large and well appointed. The entire staff was well informed and always went out of their way to be helpful and considerate. The restaurant was very good and I liked the pool. I used to stay at the New World, but no longer. The New World can't compare with the Fairmont.

Now it should be noted that the Fairmont and the Raffles Hotel are in the same building and share the same restaurant. Each hotel has it's own separate lobby, pool and private elevators although you can easily walk from one lobby to the other.

The Fairmont is the less expensive option and it occupies the first 8 floors of the building. The Raffles Hotel occupies the remaining higher floors. The rooms at the Fairmont begin with a generous 40 sq meters. I believe the rooms at Raffles are all suites beginning with 60 sq meters. The size along with the higher floors accounts for the $100 differential between the two hotels. I wonder if both hotels are managed by the same company? Perhaps GE knows the answer to this question.

My only complaint about the Fairmont concerned the difficulty of getting a taxi at 8 pm when I usually wanted to go out. The hotel is new and a lot taxis are not aware of it yet because the hotel driveway is off Palm Drive, a side street. On my first night I waited 10 minutes for a taxi. After that experience, I found it faster to cross Makati Ave and hail a taxi from the Greenbelt Mall.

Oh yeah, the Fairmont is girl friendly. Of that there is no doubt. I brought girls home every night and the staff was always respectful and very polite to my guest and myself. I plan to stay at the Fairmont again when I return to Makati next year. I had a great time in Makati.

Remember that the hotel sees the same girls regularly but hanging on a different arm each time.

The smile that you get from security as you enter proudly showing off your latest conquest is actually a smirk that says "he doesn't know that this is her third visit to the hotel this week".

If they stop a girl and ask for an I D then it means they possibly have some history on her about which you may not be aware.

I am just giving another perspective on why some hotels are not trying to insult you or block your fun but are actually trying to protect you.

Some guys prefer to have girls give over I Ds and to call the room when the girl leaves. Others are acutely embarrassed by this. To guys who may be the shy types or who need to be discreet, then it is best to go in first and let her come in 5 or 10 minutes later and hand in her I D and let them call your room to check that you are expecting a guest.

.The answer is yes, Fairmont is a brand that's owned by Raffles, under the banner of FHRI Hotels and Resort.

The building in which both hotels operate, is owned by Ayala.

Ayala takes 10% of all revenues as rental, as they do for all the hotels that they own in Makati. Which includes Shangri La, New World, Intercontinental and Mandarin Oriental.

I recently spent 5 nights at the Fairmont in late April. I had a corner deluxe room on the 6th floor. My opinion is the hotel is great. My room was large and well appointed. The entire staff was well informed and always went out of their way to be helpful and considerate.

Oh yeah, the Fairmont is girl friendly. Of that there is no doubt. I brought girls home every night and the staff was always respectful and very polite to my guest and myself. I plan to stay at the Fairmont again when I return to Makati next year. I had a great time in Makati.I agree, that this is simply the best hotel in. Manila. I stay here now almost every week and so have become reasonably well known to the staff, who always welcome me "home" whenever I return. Last week, I used one of my coupons to upgrade to an 80 m square suite, and it was pretty much over the top. This week, I asked if I could have the same sort of espresso maker that I had in the suite brought into my normal deluxe corner room; an accommodation that was made for me immediately.

It's true, it can be difficult to get a taxi in the morning, but I've resolved this problem by using Uber and Grab Taxi, and no longer have many problems getting a car.

The smile that you get from security as you enter proudly showing off your latest conquest is actually a smirk that says "he doesn't know that this is her third visit to the hotel this week".

If they stop a girl and ask for an I D then it means they possibly have some history on her about which you may not be aware. That is an interesting possible explanation for the smile or smirk. A smirk would imply that the hotel employee thinks he has a higher moral code of some sort and is looking down on the punter hotel guest. Naively I always assumed the doorman or security guy was just smiling and thinking "Way to go. Wish I could tag that expensive piece of tail."

I can see how the smile might be a veil. Not that I give a damn what a hotel employee thinks of my sporting life as long as they are courteous and polite.

I'm looking at hotels in Malate near MBC and I can't seem to find one that has smoking rooms?

Can anyone make any recommendations for a decent hotel, with a safe, that has smoking rooms for around $30? As well as P Burgos, if possible?

I will definitely be reporting my trip similar to Spidy's style.

Thank you

Thank youHehehe hahaha. Not to poke too much fun at it, but finding a room on / around Burgos at that price will be difficult. Think $50+ in the area. A room with a safe will be slightly more.

Gents?Makati is the site of the most expensive real estate in the country and thus not an ideal location for inexpensive hotels. There is a Tune Hotel on or near Burgos, but I don't know the price of rooms there has to be more than $30 a night however.

Gents? The Clipper's small (as in really small) rooms, though I don't know about the smoking and safe. Howzat's rooms are larger but some of the safes in them were (and maybe still are) broken. No on-site security. I mentioned the SoHotel recently and a few commentators said it was a dump. If one doesn't mind being 4 blocks away there's the Lokal Hostel that has single air-con rooms for approx. P1500.

A room with a safe will be slightly more. The other day in the Phil Star newspaper there was mention of the hotel rooms at the airport. Though not that particularly close to Burgos Street, the price seems to be very good!

" For P840 or $19.40, travelers with a long layover can rent a room for 24 hours. The bedrooms on the fourth floor can be reached through a scenic elevator (not much of a scenery there though) from the third floor departure area beside a Japanese spa.

The bedrooms, each with private toilet and bath plus basic amenities, are air-conditioned and currently the coldest part of the NAIA 1. ".

Since the air conditioning in Terminal 1 is reported to be under renovation until sometime this fall, ANY air conditioning may be a relief.

I may actually check this out these next time through NAIA since a 3 AM departure from Angeles for an 8 AM flight is always a BAD way to start a long overseas flight. Of course, maybe NOT since I wonder how accessible these rooms are prior to checking in at the airline / Immigration / . . . . . Etc.

AND. . . . you can't do any of those things all that much prior to your flight. Oops. . . . I have to remember where I am.

IYHO is the Best Western base of operations for our hobby? From reports it appears to be girl friendly.

I have also checked out One Greenbelt. They have been sold and they gave me an email for contacting the new owners about reservations.

If interested, contact me for their email address. Since we can't post email addresses here.

I was unable to find an online reservation.

Clean but small and you can bring your dolly there.Great place and location. Sometimes best rate if booked thru agoda.com. Agoda price is inclusive of everything. Girl friendly hotel, they do take I'd from girl at security desk and hold until you confirm you are ok upon her departure. Best to walk her back down to security desk.

Spent 3 nights at New World Hotel, which is directly across the street from Greenbelt 3. Walk in the door of Greenbelt 3, turn left, go out the door, down the stairs, and you are in the Havana Caf area. A little expensive, at $144 USD / night, but rooms are superb. Fitness center is more than adequate, with both steam and sauna. Short taxi ride to Burgos. Girls love the shopping in Greenbelt, Glorietta, Landmark, SM; all connected. Never had a problem bringing girls back, nobody even asked for I'd. Those 3 nights were followed by 3 nights in the heart of Burgos, at the Oxford Suites, a Best Western hotel. I believe it was $81 USD / night. Again, no problem with bringing women into the hotel, but there is no aircon in the hallways or the elevators, and the rooms smell of. ? All you guys? Musty, I would say. But again, great location, and mine came with free breakfast for 2.

If you visit the Stardust (or any bar), and choose one of the lovely dancers to sit with you as you stare at her beauty, the first thing you should ask is, "Are you available for barfine?" Or words to that effect. Even if you are not sure at the time that you want to take her out. Don't buy 2 or 3 (or even 1) drinks, then find out she is "menstruating", or whatever excuse she uses. Yeah, it happens to us veterans also. We sometimes forget. And those ladydrinks can be expensive.

On return visits I would stay at New World hotel again, but probably look for another hotel in the heart of Burgos if I was to stay there. It is great to walk around and check all the bars and walk back to your hotel.

I said a while back that there is a bad musty / damp smell in the room at the Oxford and would never stay there again. Being branded Best Western may help it but it remains a hotel that I won't go near no despite the location. I did stay there many years ago (was the very first hotel I stayed at on my virgin visit to the Philippines) but it is now getting run down.

Plenty around Burgos and much has been said on the hotel threads but St Giles (my preference), City Garden, Tune, Howzat, Clipper, Durban, Citadel, Makati Palace are all in close proximity to the Oxford.

And I agree always pays to be direct and ask before you bar fine.
