OK, why not?

I used to stay at the Makati Shangri-La, but now much prefer the EDSA Shangri-La. While I'll have to admit Makati area (P. Burgois) is interesting, I find EDSA/Ortigas area much more convenient for business -- and I've taken to visiting regular Ortigas bars for non- and sem- pro connections.

For example, on my last trip to MNL, I found a nice, sweet 23 yo at a local Ortigas bar drinking with friends. We didn't hook up that night, but I got her mobile number, and a local friend and I met her and her friend at MegaWalk two nights later. Some pool, some Tequila, and later we're all safely ensconced in my EDSA Shangri-La suite (he got the couch, I got the bedroom :) ). What could be better?

As luck would have it, the following night, a previous lady acquaintance SMS'd, and I had her take a taxi to the hotel. We had a great night, and I left for NAIA with a big smile in the morning.

BTW, I live in Bangkok, but am really liking the Phils lately!

Cheers,
-Y

Pan Pacific at USD $85 was my favorite, but check the room before letting the "Butler" go; if it's not acceptable, get another. At $100+, I'd pass.

Cherry Blossoms on J. Bocobo is my standby, close to Robinson's Mall, clean, quiet and cheap at P1,350.

Paco Park Oasis is OK if you get a deluxe room or higher, food and mango shakes are good, just a hassle (traffic) going the 1/2 mile or so to Robinson's.

Atrium - stayed here 1 night in 2000, it was OK, probably would pass in the future.

Members are always asking about different hotels e.t.c. so I am curious to what other members opinions are for the best low end hotel, mid range, and the high end hotels in Makati and in Manila. I always choose to stay at the Dusit in Makati and usually get a rate between 75 to 80 U.S. dollars per night booking off a website. I choose this hotel because I feel it offers you the most for the dollar to meet my needs. I enjoy its location as it is close to Burgos and not far away from the malls. There are grocery stores, restaurants close by, it is girl friendly, it is not noisy, it has security, the rooms are clean and if you are not happy with your room the staff will do its best to move you. It also has a pool along with a bar and restaurant. Another great thing I like about this particular hotel is the fact that you are able to get a buffet breakfast included for 2 with the cost of the room, and the buffet is excellent. Anyone else care to share other hotels and why they choose them?. Another question I have is what websites do you use to book your rooms?. I have used asiahotels.com, and asiarooms.com

Stayed at the Oxford Suites last week, here is my information.

The good - you are right in the middle of the action on P. Burgos.

The bad - this hotel is beat. The rugs are stained, and the place stinks. On arrival they tried to put my friend and I in suites, claiming they had no other rooms. When we said "no thank you" and indicated we would get a cab to another hotel they came up with two Deluxe Standard rooms. The rate was 3200 pesos.

I did like the security. Female guests had to register, but with no hassle at all. The hotel called you to report they were leaving.

This is on Makati Ave just off of Kalayaan Ave. I can recommend this place. Only reason I left was because I found a really good deal on a condo nearby. I got an Executive room for Php 2900. This rate required at least a two week stay. Less than that, you'll get a Superior Room. That included the taxes, service charge and breakfast for two. I thought it was a good deal.

Here is their website: http://www.citygardenhotels.com/makati/main.html.

City Garden have two other hotels in Manila, City Garden Suites and Lotus Garden, but I don't know anything about those places.

Pros
- clean room
- good bed
- decent view
- courteous staff
- good breakfast buffet
- very close to P.Burgos
- easy walking distance to Palacio Don Pedro (a good MP; search Makati thread for reports)
- Greenbelt and Glorietta are just a Php 50 cab ride away. Sometimes more if traffic is very slow.

Cons
- Only 2 elevators and staff uses them as well as guests so I often found myself waiting awhile.
- breakfast buffet closes at 10am, even on weekends.
- Broadband connection was Php 573 per day or Php 17 per minute until you hit the maximum (doesn't take very long). If you have more than one laptop (as I did), each laptop is charged separately. If you don't mind not being in the room to do your work, take your laptop to Station 168, tell them you'll be there awhile and ask for one of their private booths. Not a whole lot cheaper if you stay 8 hours, but their pricing is more flexible for shorter stays and while I had to alternate my laptops, I wasn't charged extra.

Last recommendation: when taking a taxi back to City Garden from Greenbelt or Glorietta, get off by the 7-11 on P.Burgos. Sometimes it's jammed in there, you can get back faster on foot at that point.

i've also stayed in the dusit a lot and agree with all of the good points. my pet peeve about this place is the taxi policy. i know about it and i don't mind walking down to the street and getting a meter taxi. however, some of the taxis that wait down below try on a scam where they pretend to be a 'hotel taxi' and charge a flat rate of 500 or more. i know how to handle this situation and put these asshole drivers in their place but a couple of my girls have been caught up by this. they didn't know any better and paid up. so before you send your girl back out into the cold cruel manila taxi world make sure she knows how to get a meter taxi for herself.

also, when going to the airport from the dusit take your bags past the left side of the checkin area and out to the side door. here you can get a meter taxi without hauling your bags down to the street. if you get a hotel taxi at the front they'll charge something like 800. the meter fare should be about 150.

Read about both in the forum. Girl I am going to see recommended Garden Plaza - but the review on TripAdvisor is not too good.

Good review on TripAdvisor for Paco Park Oasis.

Finally, cost is a major factor...I don't really want to go above 2000 pesos (preferably under 1500 pesos) for a room.

I stayed at Garden City in makati last year - nice hotel. A little pricey and traffic is pretty bad in Makati.

You willfind it better than most for this price.

I would send anyone here and I am sure they will agree.Who needs 5 stars when this 3 star is under scored.Big rooms modern first class for the price and location.Makati avenue. After all the gal will fuck your brains out in the bar so why dazzle her with the shangra la, or hyatt.

A rare stay in Manila on my own account, so decided to give a new place a try. I had seen the Cherry Blossoms Hotel on my walks from Robinson's mall to LA Cafe before as well as read some positive reviews, so decided to give it a try.

Found the phone number and address on the web thru Google. They don't have a website, just got the info from a listing of hotels. Cherry Blossoms Hotel is at 550 Bocobo Street, Ermita, Manila and thier phone number is (+63) 025247631. E-mail address is: blossoms@i-manila.com. I gave them a call and reserved a standard room (see pics) with a queen size bed at PHP1850/night nett. Room fee is for double occupancy and includes breakfast for 2 pax. To summarize my experience:

HOTEL AND STAFF: Tourist class hotel - 3-star at best. Check-in was friendly and professional. Staff was courteous. Security was good - guard was roving halls frequently. Very basic tourist class place - lots of families staying there as well as some Japanese mongers. Nice and quiet.

ROOMS: Clean and orderly with cable TV and minibar. Deluxe room has a true queen bed (I got upgraded on my first night)... Standard room (featured in pics) bed is more like a large twin bed. If you sleep alone, then the Standard room bed is okay. PHP30 charge for extra towel... I like a lot of fresh towels. I didn't see any value to getting a Deluxe room... the shower is better than the bath. My room on the 5th (top) floor was quite quiet considering the bustling Robinson's location... best to ask for a room at the top. No in-room safe, but safety deposit boxes were available. Cleaning staff never fussed with my stuff.

MONGER ASPECTS: No problem bringing in girls. Staff just nodded approvingly at my choices. They screened girls coming up to my room as well as leaving my room (evening only to prevent rip-offs). I noticed a number of other mongers bringing in girls. Quite a low-key place. CB is well-known at LA Cafe amongst the girls.

LOCATION: Main attraction. Next to Robinson's mall for easy dining and shopping (as well as mall hunting if that is your thing). There is also a taxi queue in front of Robinson's for easy transport to other mongering destinations, although there is plenty of taxi traffic nearby. 30 sec walk to Mini Stop convenience store. 2 min walk to Mabini for money exchange. 5 min walk to LA Cafe, Amazonia, Malate bars, etc. I was very pleased with the access.

All-in-all I give this place a solid thumbs-up. As long as you don't need a pool, this place is superb location at a good value. Enjoy MNL, AR+

Asian Rain - I stayed in Cherry Blossoms a few weeks ago and completely agree with your report. Value for money, location and service, it's a top hotel. It's close to LA Cafe and all the Ermita action, staff are attentive without being intrusive, breakfast is great and the rooms are clean. Highly recommended.

First time trip to Manila and AC. Would like to have some feed back on which city I should shack up and shag in?

Maybe some veterans could recommend a couple of hotels in each city. My price range is 2500-4000 Peso per night. I would like to have a pool, lounge, and 24 hour room service.

A breakdown of Pro's and Con's would be appreciated.

Stayed at both the old Holiday Inn Luneta Park (now Pavilion) and the Westin (now Sofitel). I MUCH prefer staying further South as Ermita is just too congested and too full of touts and swindlers. Traffic is bad, sidewalks terrible etc etc etc.

Disadvantage to Westin/Sofitel is remoteness; you want to go check the internet or buy a snack, you must go to Harrison Plaza ands are at the mercy of taxi drivers who are resistant to using meters for trips originating at the hotel. GREAT swimming pool, best in town, plus great sunsets.

I like staying at Heritage or Copacabana due to proximity to EDSA Complex (right across the street), Mall of Asia (less than 1 km away) and the airport. A LOT quieter and less congested than Ermita too. If you will hit LA Cafe regularly, I suggest Cherryblossoms Hotel at Robinson's Mall or Executive Plaza (if you have money like a Japanese, stay with them at the 5 star Diamond across the street). I suppose if you want to burn money then you could also stay, and monger, in Makati.

Those are not rack rates Floyd. You must have used Asiatravel.com or some other booking service. Still more than I care to pay as I'd rather spend my $$ on things besides fancy hotel rooms but to each their own. Suppose if I only went once or twice a year I'd splurge on rooms but I prefer to go every 2 to 3 months and use 3 or 4 star hotels instead of 5 star. Heritage is plenty plush for my taste. I also think girls will expect l;arger tips if you stay in posh hotels (and will think you koriput if you do not tiop them VERY well as thjey see you as a big spender).

I actually LIKE twin beds as I sleep WAY better without an LBFM (or worse yet a FWC!) next to me. Even when I was married I often would go sleep downstairs in my sports room as Filipinas are USED to sleeping 10 to a room and they tend top roll around a lot and spoon with you a lot. I like that, no I LOVE that, but NOT when I am trying to sleep.

Surfer, I only stay in a top hotel when i arrive for 2-3 nights and rest is spent in hotels like oxford inn, paco park etc.
Both hotels were booked thru the hotels own websites. Hyatt was $82 when it opened but now is up to 90 i think.Sam as what happenned with Conrad hotel in BKK. Was $81 for reg rooms but now up to $115.
I am consideringg staying at the Manadrin Oriental when i arrive next trip, I spend most of my time in Phils with my GF and only play now in Cebu,AC and Thailand.

Hi guys;
I/ve RTFF and searched for the low-down on the Heritage hotel in Pasig but only came up with very minimal info. My biz partner have booked me into this hotel, so I've got no choice.
As such, can you guys give me the scoop? I've RTFF and know that its across from the EDSA complex so at least that's hopeful! But what specific tips can I get from you guys?

Please could someone put me out of my misery. I stayed in a hotel a few years back in a street off Makati Avenue. It was opposite an International School and looking at online aerial maps and street maps, I reckon the exact street was called B. Valdez.

Wasn't very big, probably 15-20 rooms and I reckon 3 storeys high. As you entered, the swimming pool was on the right. Any ideas?

It's a very nice hotel, but a bit too expensive for a simple guy like me. I've heard many of the flight crews stay here as it is close to the airport. I think they also have a gambling casino there.

I imagine you can bring a girl back without any problem. Are you are the type to be easily embarassed by walking through a lobby with a woman half your age who is dressed to kill? Well, get over it!

Be careful crossing EDSA to get to the go go bars.

Not much to do around there in the day. Of course a simple guy like me would enjoy a ten minute walk to the Baclaran market. It's a colorful place. You could even stop in the church and say a few prayers. If that doesn't interest you, take a taxi somewhere that does.

** I just remembered there is the new mall in that area. The Mall of Asia is one of the biggest in the world:

Marconista,

I'll search the neurons.....breakfast wasn't buffet style. It was a menu with a few choices e.g. American breakfast (eggs, sausage, bacon, tomato, toast), coffee, tea, juice, etc. I don't think omlettes were on the menu. With hindsight I suppose the menu choices were pretty limited, but the food was good and did the job for a severe hangover.

Thanks for the tip on the Westin Phil Plaza -I'll try it next time I'm in Mnl.

The Heritage is listed as a four star hotel but, by western standards, it's really closer to a three star. The rooms are somewhat worn and the service is not terribly good, but it's not a slum either. The cable TV and aircon are fine and they will never give you any trouble at all about brining women into the place.

Though you can walk to the EDSA complex, which is diagnonally across the street, you're crossing a six lane highway that is not designed for pedestrians, and it's better to take a taxi for a few pesos than to risk life and limb.

I did have one very unpleasant experience there when the hotel tried to stick me for several charges that I had never incurred, so it's probably best to check your bill carefully.

From the hotel, it's only about a 20 minute taxi ride to Ermita, so the LA Cafe, Amazonia and G Point are all within striking distance, and it's about a 20 minute drive in the other direction to get to Makati, so Burgos St., Greenbelt, etc. are easy to get to as well.

Based on posts I've seen in this forum (thanks all), I reserved a
room at the Cherry Blossoms hotel. They quoted the following rates

Standard Room: P 1515/night
Superior Room: P1950/night

They told me these rates have been in effect since 26 August 2006.
Both rates include all taxes/fees as well as breakfast for two. Both
rooms have air conditioning. I requested a room on an upper floor
(figuring that it will be quieter); they offered to make this a priority
but would not guarantee this. They either didn't see, or ignored, my
request for a non-smoking room; we'll see what happens with that.

The Superior Room is said to have a Queen size bed. They say the
bed in the Standard Room is "good for two persons", so I imagine
it might be a little smaller than Queen size.

What I recall of the superior room (maybe it was deluxe?) was that there was kind of like a kitchen area with a refrigerator and a counter (just a little more sq footage and the fridge, but my wife likes it, so that's what we usually spring for). If your room is on J. Bocobo St side of CB, you'll be pleasantly (LOL) woken up by the sound of a rooster, that is if someone hasn't killed the SOB yet.

walking from Heritage to EDASA Complex takes 3 minutes tops. While you DO need to use caution as you would anywhere whewn crossing a 6 lane roadway, there are no concrete barriers or obstacles. Take a taxi? Be interesting to see if you could get the guy to turn the meter on for the U turn LOL!

11-01-06, 13:29
C'mon surfer, have you ever walked the walk? Yes there are concrete barriers. They are meant to funnel traffic, not to keep people from crossing. If you want to cross you can, just use your eyeballs and cross at a place where the barriers have gaps (usually where u-turns are allowed).

I thought GE's post was odd as well. From Heritage, I would think you are closer to the traffic light at Roxas and EDSA. From Copacabana, you are quite a walk from the traffic light. Actually, offerring a taxi driver 100 pesos to get you across the street is pretty cheap insurance. I've never used a taxi though.

I've done the run plenty of times. At one time there was a bunch of filthy dirty street kids who would run out to meet you without even paying attention to traffic. I'd be surprised if all of them are still alive. Last time I was there, I didn't see them.

BTW, don't take your camera to EDSA. They search your bag and will not allow cameras. They will let you check it in, but I've never felt comfortable with that idea.

Xman: all is relative I suppose. If you have been to Rio and crossed a street there, then you'll know what I mean about EDSA being tame (traffic is so much slower!). As Westbound traffic appraoches Roxas it slows as jeepneys are often stopped there. During the day crossing would be dicier but late at night has not been a big issue for me.

The street kids may have been moved out by the cops as I saw none last trip either. I recall they used to be there to accost you where the taxis would gather out front, but they mostly hung out under the Roxas overpass tapping on windows of cars.

Agreed that bringing a camera would be a mistake. Leave it in the safety of your room.

Cherry Blossoms was full so I ended up trying the Palm Plaza, which is located on the other side of Robinson's Mall from CB. Only minor merit was cost - PHP1800/night for a room with a king size bed. Included breakfast, which I did not use. Lots of demerits for this hotel - slow check-in/out, well-worn rooms, lots of noise from road and nearby karaoke place, one elevator for 10 floors, tedious ID check/registration policy for guests. All-in-all to be avoided.

I have stayed at city garden many times and have never had any problems of any kind. The food id good and the rooftop pool is clean and the staff is always on the mark for service. The rooms are great in all respects and clean, clean, clean. The price I pay per nite is 3000-p and the location is 1-2 minutes away from p-burgos street. You are 30-40-p taxi ride from greenbelt mall.

Sanet tower is also a good find not as good as city garden but at 2500-p per nite with a kitchen, livingroom and good security who would need more.To each his owne but this is what I would call good value for the money and location.

Executive Plaza has same problem. The noise from the street and the Hyatt across the street (air condition vents) will keep you awake both day and night.

I know I am posting this in Manila and Manila Hotel Thread. But I am desparate for the info. Be kind and please do not harass me for posting this twice.

Dear all,

Before anyone tells me to RTFF - allow me to explain that time is not on my side here and I need the info now and don't have the luxury of taking my time to RTFF.

Question: Is there any cheap Short Time hotel in the Makati / Marakina area that I can bring a non-pro girl to? This is the situation: I met a girl online last year and met her in Manila last year - but she backed down and we never got on with the business. Well, I am going there again tomorrow and she contacted out of the blue and has indicated that she is willing to go all the way.

Problem is, I have already arranged to meet with the gril I shagged last year and she will be staying in my hotel room for the duration of my stay in MNL. But I still don't want to pass up the chance of shagging the one I missed last year....So I am respectfully asking for your help in locating a good ST hotel where I can bring this chick to and have a good shag without breaking the bank.

Thanks in advance.

Use Victoria Court, there is one pretty near to Makati and all the taxi drivers now where to find one. Or use Oxford Suites in Makati, just use an online travel agency like asiatravel to book it. The rate will be of course higher than Victoria Court but also more comfortable and it has the added benefit of being right in Makati.

What are the regular rates at Victoria court? Looking for a cheap motel to stay in that has some type of security in a non slum area.

Any ideas?

Hi

If you are looking for a short stagger and no taxi required, you might try the Travelers Inn on Makati Blvd. It is in the middle of the action. Mostly cheap about 1850 per night. Is setup in sueits (one bedroom apts.) Good security. These are what the filipinos use and is to their standards not US. Also if you have a gf there, there are about 6 short time hotels starting at about 850 within a couple of blocks. For me it was girl friendly to the point of security negotiating better prices for me and such. I tip doormen and security so maybe I get a little better treatment. Good Hunting and see you there after Christmas

Long time lurker here. And Long time Philippine visitor.

I just had to reccomend The Pan Pacific to the mongers that have money. IMHO it is the Best value-for-money Hotel in Manila. Over the last 27 years I've stayed in them all and when this little beauty was built 8 years ago it promised a lot. So I gave it a shot. I was Not dissapointed.

I used a suppliers corporate rate then but now have my own. In 2006 it was USD 90. 00 ++. Now it is USD 100. 00 ++. This rate is for a Superior room (usually around the 16-20 storey mark) the BEST buffet breakfast (for 2) in Manila, 3 pieces of laundry, cocktails from 5. 30-7. 30pm on the 21st floor, shoeshine daily, 2 bottles of mineral water, daily paper etc etc.

Give yourself a little luxury like I do. One things for sure. The girls love it. They are so overwhelmed they forget to try and scam you! An old ploy that works!

Yep, it's a great place. First time we stayed there, my GF was blown away by the room and we had stayed at some nice places in PI and HK.

Second time was "Black Thursday" 2001 (Thurs before Good Friday) and the barbershop across the street was on fire, some of the PP staff was helping out from the 3rd floor. The room they showed me was a shell of the previous years, very dingy, but had the same dimensions, etc. If there were no fire I would have complained, but let it pass as I was there for one night only.

I am sure unless you are taking out the senators little girl you do not need to stay here.Yes it is nice and for anyone to say that guys with money or the gals are overwelmed thats bullshit. The gals want money and will fuck anyone on the back of a cockroach if you wanna know the truth.

To all the bigshots, staying here or at anyother 100.00 dollar a night hotel.Try staying here spending that amount of money longer than a week or two.Try staying here for 6-8 months and then tell me why u chose this country if you got that kind of money.Staying power lasts longer than a week or two.Could be thats why you have visited 27 times and not stayed longer on each trip.

On another note,MOST PEOPLE WITH MONEY DO NOT STAY ON ANOTHER PERSONS CORP.ACCOUNT.Another day in the life of the big time charlie. YOU WISH.Please remember we are all rich here to the locals.Aperson making 6.0 U.S.dollars per hr is rich here.At home a guy making 5-8 dollars per hr more than the next guy could be called rich by another making less.So please define rich we will all be interested in your answer I am quite sure.

Why not the HYATT thats a 7-8 thousand peso a night hotel or is that called overspending. There is a great new hotel in Angeles city called abc. They have rooms here for 300.00 and 500.00 U.S. per night.Yes thats a fact and I am sure there food and fixtures are all top knotch.Do you think the pussy is any better here than in manila? I am sure it's not.I am also sure they will give just as much(SEX) to a guy they know tips the next day and the hotel is not rated at 5 star QUALITY. Once again the first and formost factor on there list is THEY ALL WANT CASH CASH CASH!!!!!!!

Yes, I stayed all over, from P700 in Laoag to Cebu Marriott, Apo View, Pan Pacific, Pension House in San Carlos City (P800), the whole gamut during my 7 months in RP. I did keep my Marriott room for 40+ days whether I was in Cebu or not, but that was for the discount and to hold my favorite room.

It would be hard to do the same thing today (staying more than a couple of nights in a $$$ place), but I might wind up a trip with a couple of nights at Pan Pacific, just as a nice ending to my trip.

I agree, no need for the venom.

You guys seem to forget a 5 star hotel will only buy a 3 star property back home. Just stayed at Mandarin Oriental. Now at Lotus Gardens which for 2250p I could afford an extra $30 to be at Hyatt.Only problem with Hyatt which I love is not the tarriff but the service taxes etc which lumps about another 20% on top of a $82.00 room.

Hello friends:

I have been chatting with a Cavite girl for past 6 months. I have been invited to visit her.

She is MILF, the problem is- she cant travel too far (Manila, Malate, Makati).

I am restricted to Las Pinas or Cavite or Alabang area. If any of the readers are long time residents in Metro Manila area- I need your help with some hotel names.

Thanks in advance

To AsiaFloyd,

I can highly recommend the Hyatt Casino - I know its expensive but you could try haggling with them - I think depending on the time of the year they will do business and the facilities they have are world class. Their biggest advantage though is their position - only 2 blocks walk from LA Cafe, G Point, Robinsons, a 7/11 across the street, ATM across the street, internet cafe around the corner, one block from Baywalk, no probs taking girls back to your room, great room service, electronic safe in your room and 24 hour cafe if you need. Also if you hail a taxi from their front steps they do a security check on the driver by taking down his details and keeping a record and instructing him to use the meter.

I've stayed there twice now and thats where I'll be going back to. I know its expensive compared to others but for peace of mind I reckon its worth it, depending of course on your length of stay and your budget. But if you're talking $30 per night difference I know where I'd stay. Hope this helps.

Pete

Bill Bux,

You are incorrect. Last trip In Bangkok I stayed at the Bangkok Oriental Hotel. #1 ranked Hotel in the World. In Ko Samui I stayed in the most expensive Ocean bunglow at the Chweng Regency Resort. Both these times I had hearm of buetiful girls flocking back to my Hotels. I literially had post club parties. In Ko Samui one Mammasun closed her establishment and he entire entoruge came over to party in my bungalow. In Bangkok I had a stunner walk into my room and begin jumping on my bed in excitement for 3 minutes because of the wealth of the room. The GFE's are un matched when you show some of the hotter ones some wealth. like buy them a nice dress or take them to a nice restaurant. I know the poor man attitude makes you feel better about yourself and your approach in these countries but the facts are just like in the USA the size of your wallet gets you the best action.

AGAIN BANGKOK,we are not talking about BANGKOK, this is the P.I. board. Most gals as long as the place is clean do not care about first class here it's about us and the money. If I need to go 5 star to impress a 20 dollar hooker why did I come here anyway????????????And I am sure others have found this also true.Do you take gals off the street at home to park plaza??You take "YOUR REGULAR GAL TO THE BEST THATS MY FEELING"Why waste the best on the same old same. The service is no better and they will want more if you want to play the roll of mr big.

If you look at what they are saying here about my posts it's not that I am a cheep charley. The B.S. is about overpaying!!!!

Again whocares what you or I or the other pays. Please don't open yourself up to the guys here that say we are spoiling things for them.Like A.FORCE 1 I am sure they think the top girls are overrated. And if anyone pays there price they are a fool. It's not up to another to say,RIGHT?

Certainly not triing to call anyone out. I'm just saying that in the Phil/Thai. Because of the pricing its faily affordable to appear as a big shot and for some thats a pretty cool thing. The Hotels I mentioned our those countries best and it still only cost $150 US dollars a night. In the USA you have to throw down a $1000 a night to have that same image, in these countries its very cheap. The girls love it, and gets you an amazing GFE. I will say this I never paid for LT or ST more than this board reccommends. Certainly don't want to spoil that, but the frills like hotel, dinners, nightclubs and shopping for the girls I've done that and it pays off in GFE.

My travel plans are made for PI. I arrive into Manila on 4/12 and will spend 3 nites there before moving on to Boracay for some much needed beachtime and SCUBA. I am working on trying to line-up talent to take with me, from AFF, but the search is painful with slow without measureable results. However, I am not posting here for that reason.

I am looking for some insight on the Manila Hilton. I have searched the postings, but have not found much to answer my questions.

1. Is the hotel guest friendly?
2. Do they charge a guest fee?
3. Is it located near the fun places for take-out like LA Cafe?
4. Will they store bags for you if you stay with them while passing back and forth thru Manila?

Any and all help will be most appreciated. I am an experienced traveler in the P4P world of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Costa Rica, but this will be my first trip to the PI.

Lookingtoswing4,

You can't go wrong at the Hyatt Casino Manila as it is in the heart of Ermita, easy walking distance to Bay Walk, Robinsons Mall, LA Cafe, G Point, lots of KTVs if you like etc. There's a 7/11 across the road, ATM etc, and if you catch a taxi from the front the security people will make sure the meter is on and take details of the cab just in case.

You don't read much about it cos it is expensive but its got everything, pool, gym, sauna, medical facilities and most important it is very girl friendly!!! The rooms are large with TV, dvd, good air con, electronic safe, fridge - 5 star all the way. The room service is good and their breakfast buffet is a must if you can get up early enough after a big night at LA Cafe!

I've stayed there on my last 2 trips and will be going back there later this year for more!

Enjoy your stay,

Pete

PeteWOW Pete. Thanks for the response. I did my research beforehand and it seemed like a good location. But, it is easy to get confused when you read all the various threads leading one to think differently. I was really hoping I could walk to places like the LA Cafe as I am more interested in places without a bar fine, like the Del Rey in Costa Rica. I am VERY excited about my upcoming trip.

Any thoughts on how hard it will be for me to find take-out to Boracay? One that I can trust to be in the room without me. I mean I will not be stupid about it, but would hate to have to feel like I have to hide everything. I am searching on Adult Friend Finder, but the results are not what I had hoped for. Most just want me to send money to pay for their chat room habits.

Yep I paid about $100 US each night but beware that there are a few extra taxes they add on the bill so it probably works out about $110US per night. Not cheap but if its your first time in Manila worth it for peace of mind. When you are there you can always check out the other hotels around. There's heaps!

Not sure about the bags. Just look up their website and send them an email with your request. They will respond.

Forget the chatrooms. Believe me after a night or two at LA cafe, G point or just loitering around Robinsons mall you will be able to take your pick of a girlfriend to take with you to Boracay (one you feel you can trust. Just use your own gut feeling and don't rush your choice). Don't worry! IT IS THAT EASY!

Oh Manila! How I miss it!

Enjoy

Not sure about the bags. Just look up their website and send them an email with your request. They will respond.

Forget the chatrooms. Believe me after a night or two at LA cafe, G point or just loitering around Robinsons mall you will be able to take your pick of a girlfriend to take with you to Boracay (one you feel you can trust. Just use your own gut feeling and don't rush your choice). Don't worry! IT IS THAT EASY!

Oh Manila! How I miss it!

Enjoy

PeteYea Pete,

I expected additional charges. As far as I am concerned, $110 is the norm for an average room here in the US. When I can pay the same amount in Asia and get a 5-star experience, all the better, if for no other reason than peace of mind. I will be in PI on a 2-week vacation, not exclusively a mongering trip. So I expect to spend some money and I prefer nicer accomodations when traveling in SE Asia. I have found that when one spends $100+ in SE Asia, you can be guaranteed nice accomodations. I realize that the same quality can be had for less, but you need to know where those gems are.

Nice to hear I am so close to LA Cafe. The posts and maps had me a little confused. I hear good and bad about the place, but mostly good. What is this place you call G Point? I have not read anything about this place.

Thanks for the advice. I will try not to rush my choice, but I only have 3 days to sample before leaving for Boracay, and part of that will be dealing with jet-lag. I would like to have something in-pocket the day before departure as I will not purchase her an airline ticket beforehand.

I sent them a message about storing my luggage, the otehr day, but have yet to hear back from them.

Thanks for all the information.

Check out G Point on the net - just google it - its behind Robinsons within easy walking distance from the Hyatt. My room was on the 23rd floor facing north and I could look down Del Pilar St and see LA Cafe 2 blocks away - its that close!

My prediction is that within 2 hours of getting unpacked you will be asking yourself: Which one do I choose?

Enjoy! Cheers!

There are freelancers at G point, but far fewer than LA. Also more low key. Sometimes a lady you saw at LA will show up at G Point.

Be careful though. There are a lot of expat regulars who are there with their wives or girlfriends. Look before you leap.

PeteNext time when you check in get your regular gal to go and do the talking at the front desk. Tell the gal and you also tell the front desk you want the local rate for your stay. This is about half and they will give you this comp if you have a local in the p. I. Residence address. Local international drivers lisence. Try it you will be happy at the rate change.

After reading this thread, I did a Google search trying to book some nights. I found one place that listed a "premium" room for 1250P a night. I didn't find a listing of this same room type anywhere else.

I'm also not familiar with the website, so not sure if it's legitimate. I'd be hesitant to give credit card, and passport info out.

Why not just contact them directly: blossoms@i-manila.com.ph

I used my credit card there when I was there a few days ago but I think in the future I will just pay cash (pesos). It's cheap enough and then you don't have to worry about any funny business with your cc.

Also, when I left a taxi from Cherry Blossoms to the airport was about 170-180 pesos using the meter. When you arrive the airport taxi service will try and gouge you for 500 pesos to Blossoms, or at least they did me. If you go upstairs to the departures you should be able to catch a taxi that has just dropped someone off and tell him to use the meter.

The Executive Plaza is newer and cleaner than CB IMHO and is just a block away. CB is closer to the mall, however. I book the EP through asiatravel.com but somebody mentioned another site that had it for 1700 (vs. 1800 on Asiatravel).

Local rate is often cheaper but rarely 50% (unless you are talking full rack rate which is only paid by the truly clueless).

Also, some hotels are stricter than others as I recall a couple that refused to honor the local rate arranged by my asawa (ex I should say!) once they saw a white guy in the room.

There re also timers when you can get a better rate on the internet than a local can get by calling so it pays to always compare. Have the wife or GF (or a filipino friend) call, but ALSO check the internet rate. A third way to get deals is through travel agents. For example, Jeron Travel can get a $65 rate at Heritage which is better than any internet rate OR the local rate obtained by having a Filipino call. Many companies buy blocks of rooms at discounted rates for their employees but excess rooms are sold through travel agencies.

Stopped there many times. In and on the way out of the Philippines. A really nice Hotel, friendly staff, and right in the middle of the action. Would recommend it. Also when I was there a couple of years ago they were selling off flats/apartments located inside the Oxford Suite complex building.

I was just in Manila for a few days. Too busy doing business to monger, but I can report on this hotel which is part of the City Garden group that also includes City Garden Makati and Lotus Garden which is very close by.

Pro's
- Clean. Mostly bug free.
- Wireless worked. It's expensive but you can get discount for longer stay.
- Decent breakfast buffet. Not quite as good as City Garden Makati.
- Easy walking distance to Robinson's and the usual Ermita hangouts like G Point and LA Cafe.

Con's:
- Just one elevator.
- Safe deposit box in room not operational, must deposit valuables at the front desk.
- Did not have early checkin room available. Had to wait on that after getting there at 7am.

Only other note is I can recommend the money changer called Edzen which is also on Mabini St. They will take over USD$1000.

I don't know about the Hyatt but I do know that Fitness First has many branches in Metro Manila and they accept walkins. I used the ones in Makati, but I guess in Manila it would be the same quality. It's located in Robinsons Place Mall.

I have been in the Philippines 3 times, Angeles City.

This go round, I want to try something a little different and stay in Manila for most of the stay and sample the women there. I have heard the Manila women are superior to the Angeles City women.

I looked on another board and someone said the Copacabana Hotel across from the EDSA is a good place. Reasonable rates, pool and right across from the action.

Im not picky. I want to be close to the action, pay a reasonable rate for a room, safe ,clean, etc. Basically, I want to be able to walk to one of the popular hot spots and only occasionally take the cab. I figure I can also make side deals with the ladies and if the hotel is close to the action they would be more willing to walk right on over.

Whats the name of the hotel that is right across from LA Cafe? Lotus Gardens?

Im open to your thoughts. Let me know. Are the women really better looking in Manila vs. Angeles?

In a post earler today in the Manila section, I gave a bit of info about Pasay/ Copacabana Hotel.

From the Copa or Heritage hotel, Harrison Mall is 3km, which would be a long hot walk at this time of year. Mall of Asia, very new and very large, would be about 1km due west. If I'm not mistaken the Mall of Asia is adjacent to the brand-spanking-new DELL call center. Educated women who speak good English. Can someone tell me what time the shift start / end. I'll be there!

** there is free transport from Heritage Hotel to Mall of Asia. Even if you stay at Copa, I suspect you could try to get on the bus. If they refuse you, try a line of bull...or give a tip. What the heck, worth a try. BTW, the flight crews tend to use Heritage....and how cute are Asian stewardesses?

I'll agree with Asia floyd that Copacabana Hotel ($55)is probably a poor choice. Seems that they have raised their prices, and it might be better to try for Heritage if you can get a bargain for less than $80. Nevertheless, I only know of the Copa and Paco Park Hotel as reasonably priced hotels which have swimming pools. If only I could afford the Diamond Hotel!!!!

used to be half the price of Heritage but now only about $10 different so for sure Heritage is better bang for your buck.

2 places in good locations with a pool for about $40 are Bayview park, across from US Embassy on Roxas, and Orchid Suites (across street from ANA hotel and 1 block from Harrison Plaza). Walking from EDSA to Harrison Plaza is only for the stupid. Spend 10 Piso and take a jeepney if the 50Piso taxi fare is too high.

In LA Cafe, area I like the Executive (1800Piso on internet sites).

What action? There are many hotels around LA cafe, but none "literally" across the street. See Surfer's post. Also Las Palmas, Hotel Frendy, Palm Hotel, and many more...all of these are just a few minutes walk from LA cafe / Stringfellows / Harry's / G-point in the Ermita area.

Burgos, I think the Citadel Hotel is right on Burgos St.

The Copa and Heritage are literally across the street from EDSA Entertainment, but you better have an athlete's sprint if you want to try crossing that street.

Xman: I use asiatravel.com primarily, but asiarooms.com is another to check.
As a savy traveler like you knows, you should always call to compare discounts available at front desk with internet rates. Having the GF and asking for local or balikbayan rates is better still, but often the internet discounters can beat those rates.

Regarding Orchid Suites, it has been a few years since I stayed there after an incident where an Arab guest accosted my ex wife in the elevator so I no longer have the number. I watched the place being built as I used to stay at Hotel Bohemia next door in the mid 90s (now gone). Very clean and new fixtures (then), and closer to airport than Ermita hotels, but Harrison Plaza is a dump. Robinson's and especially Mall of Asia are MUCH nicer.

Citadel is ground zero for Makati mongering (PBurgos) but it is 2 star at best. OK for me, but guys that like nice rooms and full services will want to go more upscale. Heritage and Copacabana for EDSA Complex, and CB, Executive, Las Palmas for LA Cafe (or Diamond if you have the $$$ and don't mind staying with mostly Japanese or Korean guests).

Crossing EDSA, or Roxas, can be a challenge during times of light traffic.

I was in Manila in late January to early February and stayed in a few different hotels. For various reasons I booked all of these hotels late with just a couple of days notice so I tended to get the bone the tourist rate.

Hyatt Hotel and Casino, Malate. 2 blocks south of LA Cafe. This hotel was the nicest of the three hotels in Manila that I stayed in. 4-star quality. Stayed in the Club level rooms. Room was spacious and clean and had a DVD player that played my region 1 DVDs just fine. In room safe was spacious. I could put my 17" laptop in it. The buffet that the club level gets is ok, nothing special. There are cocktails in the evening too but I was always out at that time so didn't partake. You need your key to access your floor but otherwise I had no problems with bringing back girls. Paid: $150/night plus 20% taxes and surcharges. Booked on the Hyatt chains website.

Hotel Intercontinental, Makati. This is a hop, skip and a jump from Glorietta Mall. Not quite as nice inside as the Hyatt but close. Room was smaller. In room safe was smaller. No DVD player. Its about a 15 minute walk up Makati Ave to the P Burgos bars. Girl friendly. Paid $140/night plus 20% taxes and surcharges. Book on Intercontinental website.

City Garden, Makati. This is right near the P Burgos bars. Room was fine. Not quite as nice as either of the above but considering that I was paying nearly 1/2 those hotel's rates it was pretty good. In room safe was small, but adequate for everything but my laptop. Food selection nearby kind of sucks. A decent Chinese restaurant but mostly Jollibee, McDs or other such. Girl friendly. Paid around $85/night plus taxes. Booked on City Garden website.

I know it often seems like many (most?) want to spend a C note and up for 5 star hotels. I TOTALLY agree with you because I travel a lot, so I could not "afford" to spend $150+ for EVERY night I am away from home. A good, clean, 3 star suits me just fine. In the bigger cities in the PI that means paying about $40-50 (2000-2500P).

J got a suite for 2.700 piso in City Garden Suites in Mabini at walk distance from LA and Robinson mall. It is quite nice and quite clean, girls friendly and staff members are polite and professional. Just aircond was a little bit noise and you have to switch off if you want to sleep.

Box springs....

One thing you rarely see in a hotel review is does the friggin bed have box springs or not? I've been negligent myself. And mirrors. Damn, I love to have mirrors.

If you want to spend a good part of your holidays doing bedroom gymnastics, it's sure better to have the box springs rather than foam on a board.

Is there a hotel in MM with mirrors?

Hello PI Mongers,

I am making my virgin trip to the PI in mid-April, mainly to go to the VA Hospital in Manila, but playtime is also on the menu. I am looking at staying at the Cherry Blossoms Hotel and was wondering if anyone can tell me if this hotel is fairly close to both the VA Hospital and the action? If not, can anyone recommend a hotel that is in between these areas that is reasonably priced?

If any one has time to meet and give me the lay of the land that would be great, I would certainly return the favor if they ever come to Shenzhen or Chang Ping, China.

Szexpat - I just came back from Manila and had an excellent stay at Cherry Blossoms. I don't know where the VA Hospital is, but you can work it all out by finding where Robinson's Shopping Center is in Ermita (about 1/2 mile from the US Embassy) because that's where CB is. Ermita is really hopping these days and I can recommend the CB too but it is fairly full so book early.

Hi to all,
arrived friday late around midnight in Manila. My fren picked me up and we checked some hotels cause I havent got any reservation done for this day.

we checked executive palace, they quote us 2500 and 3000 something for deluxe room. I know from asiatravel that u will get the room much cheaper, so I pass on this and went to the Hotel frendly in Mabinistreet, just a 50 m away from the new Hyatt on the right side.

Their standard room is 1500 p and the deluxe room was 2250p plus breakfast.

Next day I walked along Mabini street to chekc some other hotels, City tower, lotos garden (affialated to city garden makati) Best western hotel and finally Bayview park.

So I can say after checkin them all, I found Hotel frendy best value. The rooms were much bigger. Best western quoted me 2400 for their room (actually its 3000p) but I pass on this cause they renovate the rooms until 5 pm and after 24 hours on a plane I need to relax.

City Tower and Lotos garden had both nice rooms, but for the same price Igot a much bigger room in Hotel frendy.

Bayviewpark hotel is a nice hotel, but only if u book it on asia travel, if u walk in they ask for 89 to 110 US. On asiatravel its only 48 US plus breakfast. I offerd them to pay that money, but they refused for that price.

If that would happen in my country they would give u the room, but we are in the PI , so they just dont care and of course foreigner have to pay allways more...

So , for those folks who just arrived in Manila check out hotel frendy, gud value for money.

Next time I book Bayviewpark again withh asiatravel. Its quiet and even the receptionist is hardheaded, f..k that, the rooms are very ok for 48 US.

Im sitting here now in BLOG internet cafe (24 hours open) opposite the Hyatt Hotel in Mabini street and just waiting for the fly to bus to take me to AC. more on that laters......

Has anyone stayed at The Midland Plaza, Manila? It is near Cherry Blossom Motel and Robinson's. I had a friend check it out six weeks ago and he claimed the rooms were fine. It has a good website with the cost of a standard room at US$40 (A$50 or presumably about P1900 - 2000.) I assume it is girl friendly. Any info?

Blink mentions these two places in a recent post.

BLOG was the best Net cafe I found. Nice comforable chairs, and plenty of elbow room. They have a smoking room for smokers. What building is that in? Is it the Riviera Mansion building? Anyway, next door to exec and across from Hyatt.

Hotel Frendy: Kind of a cold lobby, but rooms are very large, although many have twin beds. Cheap at 1700 which includes breakfast.

I stayed there Jan 07 and March 07. I have the following complaints.

Front desk treated my girl (a travel professional) like she was some trash that blew in from LA cafe. I didn't say a word, but when we got to my room my girl said, "I don't want to see her face again."

Jan 07: It was very difficult to get the door to lock. The cleaning staff left my door unlocked for most of the day. Front desk didn't seem to care when I mentioned this problem. Toilet water pressure very low.

Mar 07: TV didn't work....then bed lamp didn't work, come to find out most of the electrical sockets had no electricity. Fortunately the air con worked. At check out I mentioned this problem. Front desk reply, "okay". Toilet pressure very low.

Lately, I haven't been able to book my favorite hotel in ermita....so I think I'll stop telling people which hotel that is. Sorry. In the top five: Paco Park, Executive, Bayview (if you can get it under$50). I used to like Palm and Las Palmas, but they seemed to have raised their rates.

Guys need some help! I normally stay in Makati but this trip I'm planning on spending most of my time in Malate/Ermita district. I'll be somewhat on a budget this trip and have to cut back on lodging.

I have narrowed my choice down to 2 hotels which I have never stayed at. I would like to have as much feedback pros and cons possible.

The two choices are the Executive Plaza and the Pearl Manila. Both seem priced about the same.

Which would choose and why?

I had reservations at a price of 1250 pesos per night which I prepaid upon arrival. Two nights later they changed it to 1500 plus pesos per night. Room 201 hadn't had any maintenance done to it to warrant a price increase. There were roaches everywhere. I won't stay there again.

I also had no luck at Cherry blossom hotel, but I suspect the problem is the 2nd floor, not the entire hotel. It wasn't a nice room, and I remember thinking it would be very easy for someone to get into the room through the window.

Exec vs. Pearl. I'd stay at the Pearl for two reasons.
1) I've never been able to stay there since it's often fully booked.
2) It's on a quieter street and closer to the Malate nightlife if you need a change from LA cafe.

But I have no complaints about the Executive. Closer to LA cafe and there is a good Internet Cafe called BLOG just a few doors down. There's also a convenience store next door.

I had reservations at a price of 1250 pesos per night which I prepaid upon arrival. Two nights later they changed it to 1500 plus pesos per night. Room 201 hadn't had any maintenance done to it to warrant a price increase. There were roaches everywhere. I won't stay there again.

X-Man, how much did you pay at the Pearl? I stayed at the Cherry Blossoms, but Pearl would also be convenient for me. I had a deluxe room at CB - PHP 2155, so considerably more than the ones Fred Dobbs got, but that did not include roaches.

My regular place is now full everytime I contact them for a room so lets try a new place. Booked a room at asia travel and the hotel is BAYVIEWPARK, sounds like most here liked the place and the price at $70 US was fair.Thats a suite room and why not about the same as my old place in Makati. OK, Yes there are lesser places to stay, why stay in a substandard place here when 4 stars are had under a C-NOTE.

Again 4 stars here are like 2-3 at home, and the survice is 1 star after "the old" ask 3 times and you might get lucky rule.

The Midland Plaza Hotel Internet site is www.themidlandplaza.com

It is easily confused with, but is not the old Manila Midtown Hotel which I understand has now been converted, or is being converted, into apartments.

Anyone know what the guest policy is at the Pan Pacific Hotel? I am leaving the Hyatt Hotel and Casino, enroute to Boracay. Will return to Manila for 2 nights before heading to El Nido. Unfortunately, I could not get anything less than a $350 USD suite at the Hyatt, so I decided to look elsewhere. Found space available at the Pan Pacific, but haven't seen any reports about the hotel. Any help would be most appreciated as I can cancel my reservation up to 24 hours beforehand with no penalty. I stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel last year, no problem with taking a guest to your room. They charge almost php1000 a day for Internet, but if you're below the 6th floor you will be able to pick up 3 or 4 WiFi signals for free.

Excellent location in M.H. De Pilar (just a 5 minutes walk to LA Cafe, or a short ride by Jeepney) and very much girl friendly! Nicely furbished rooms and its friendly staff make a stay there highly recommendable! Price about 50 USD per night.

Are the women really better looking in Manila vs. Angeles?

I have checked almost the entire forum, but unfortunately I did not find the one who introduced this often repeated legend first. However, as I always found some great lookers in AC I tend to disagree with such a generalization.

Guys,
Just got back from a short trip to manila. Got a good rate at Shangri-La Edsa. $100 a night. Did have to have someone with a "local ID" to get that rate. I had my driver say he was my Bro in-law and showed his ID. Got the local rate.

the room was easily a 300-400 a night room in the states. I also was on the floor under the club (13th floor) picked up the clubs wifi for free. :)

A quick report on my 4 day stay at CB a week ago.

I had the confirmation from the hotel, but it didn't list the address. Since the ISG discussion for LA Cafe is labeled Makati, I thought the hotel was in that district. Wrong. It took an hour for the taxi driver to find it after asking a dozen different people. I had mentioned it was next to Robinson's, but that didn't seem to help. It cost me 250p total, so I guess I wasn't out that much, taking a taxi from the departure level.

I checked in after midnight. They didn't have my standard room available, so put me in a larger sized room for the standard price, but made me move the next day. They made me prepay 2 days in advance.

There was nothing really wrong with the rooms, but they were a bit dated. Some cockroaches in the bathroom, and anemic AC didn't help much. They have a rubber sheet on the bed, under the normal bedding, which was a bit cheesy.

Staff was okay, but the room didn't get cleaned one day. I called down in the evening, and had two guys come up and do the room quickly. Breakfast was okay, but nothing special. Small TV in room, with a reasonable amount of channels.

My major problem came with the laundry service at the hotel. I sent 4 items out. Upon picking them up, the lady said that there would be a 22% surcharge for taxes and service on the rates on the form.

When I got them back, the bill was almost twice what it was supposed to be. The lady said that they sent the clothes to another hotel, and they charged more. I stated that this wasn't my problem, and would pay what the form had indicated.

As I was in no hurry to go anywhere, I stood my ground. I got stonewalled again and again. I told her that I had agreed to pay the price on the form, and had acquiesced to the VAT and service charge, but would pay no more.

She said she'd work on it. I went down and began to check out. They wanted both receipts from the deposits I had given them. I had them buried in my bag, so they had to reissue them. The laundry lady then came down, and had the corrected bill. 131p vs 250p.

While not a horrible deal at 1550p per day, I wouldn't rush back to stay there. Their mini-bar charges were correct, which is a plus.

Don't know as I haven't stayed there.

I didn't know about this at edsa either but as I was checking in for one night before my trip to Bohol, the girl at the counter told me this "locals rate".

So I made friends with my driver, and had him pick me up at the airport upon my return to Manila. He accompanied me to the lobby as I checked in for my second stay and presented himself as my Brother in law and showed his ID.
they gave me the "local rate".
Can't hurt to give it a try, or maybe call them and ask if they have a "locals rate"

Good command of the english language and very personable lady. Definitely knows the P4P ropes, but has a much softer and refined approach. Doesn't get to do all the time as she is just finishing school, but works her magic in-between terms to make some extra cash for school. Some of the best "Boom-Boom" I have had in a few years. Wish I could post a picture of her, but she is too shy to pose for one. Tonight I am meeting her back at G-Point, and we may try to convince her friend Jessica to come back with us! I can suggest the City Garden Suite in Mabini. It's the fourth time that I go there and I never had any type of problem. Rooms are more than decent and the price is about 2800 pesos with asiatravel for de De Lux room. Only the bathroom is maybe a little bit small, no problem to take girls back. I suggest to reserve superior room for 2600. The hotel is close to L.A. cafe and to Robinson Mall.

I am sorry for asking this as there are probably some reviews on this site that could answer my question. But I am at El Nido Resort and the internet is painfully slow and time-out before I can complete my search.

I am looking for some insight into the guest policy at the Hotel Intercontinental, in Makati. I have a room reserved there for my last 2 nights in the Philippines. Having met a Dynamic pair of ladies at the G-Point, I would love to have them both as my guests until I leave for the USA. If they are not gf-friendly, I might have to choose a different accomodation than I am accustomed to. But will do so if it means I can spend my last 2 days in paradise with my special ladies. Any help would be appreciated. I tried many of the other hotels, but the nicer ones seem to be booked-up. Any insight into haveing 1 or 2 guests?

Thanks in advance for the assistance. My stay in the Philippines has been one of the best trips of my life and I am sure to return another day VERY SOON!

I suppose you are talking about "Malate Pensionne" near Remedios Circle!? Indeed, it is a backpackers' lodge and somehow a closed shop for young students from all over the world. You are right, the management won't allow visitors in your room (unless you check in with your "steady girlfriend" from AC). It is definitely no suitable place for mongers!

The only one I've ever run across that's absolutely hostile to the idea is Bethel Guesthouse in Dumaguete, under Bible thumping management. Having said that, I did sneak a girl in the one time I stayed there.

Youth hostels and other cheap backpacker kinds of places are never a good bet. We wouldn't want to offend the feminist backpackers staying there now, would we?

Then there are the in between places. They let you bring a girl in for a joiner fee (a bribe by any other name) of 500 or 1000 or so. The Hyatt next to the Japanese Embassy in Pasay was like that a couple of years ago.

Broadcasting live from the back room of LA Cafe... Awkward looking group of Japs with their flunkie Japanese-speaking girls and mama-san in tow. There isn't a decent looking girl in their group. 4-4-4 party.

Staying at Cherry Blossoms. This time all they had left was a 2-floor suite. This is actually quite an awesome option at 2,300pesos/night. These rooms are connected in an alleyway next to the hotel. First floor is TV sitting room and upstairs is bath and bedroom.

This is perfect for me as there is no need to go into the hotel and deal with any walk of shame. Additionally, my pimpette GF can come direct to the room with girls and wait downstairs while I do my business upstairs. I just give her a can of chips and a water and she is happy.

The lighting is also decent enough in the room for video. Plenty of power outlets for charging various electrical devices. The downstairs is well lit too, which was perfect for my LA Cafe take-home last night... she loved to pose for the camera.

Highly recommended if you don't mind spending a little extra and like the space. Enjoy, AR+

This is good info. I think.

I've seen these places but they always look more like parking garages than hotels. I assumed they were cheap and sleazy, and were for drive in "short time" customers only. Did you walk in?

BTW, I have nothing against cheap and sleazy.

OH, what do you mean 24 hours? If I check in at 4pm, do I then have the room till 4pm the next day? If so, that sound like a great deal for the night owls like me.

Hope you can add some info.

This Ermita Hotel is in Adriatico Street, 50 metres from Robinson's Department Store and the associated four storey mall.

Two floors form the hotel: 12 and 14.

Security at the front (with rear near Cherry Blossoms Motel open during business hours) is slack, but completely GF.

The rooms are variable. My room was nicely renovated but suffered from the noise of the LA Cafe band some nights. Aircon is noisy, but effective. The beds and showers are acceptable, and storage space adequate.

When I returned from elsewhere I requested a room on the other side of the corridor and was given 1207 next to the lifts. It was quieter as the noise from G Point's 2230 hours commencing nightly band did not reach up as easily as the LA Cafe's band.

My toilet overflowed but was fixed by the young maintenance man within the hour.

AT US$40 if booked through www.midlandplaza.com, this accommodation is acceptable if somewhat dated. The lifts (only one of the two is in service during most of the day and all of the night) are a bit slow but the staff do not hassle you.

6.5 or 7 would be an appropriate rating, because it is very well located with the shopping at Robinson's for mens shirts and ties an added attraction.

What's the best GF option in the P1300 or so range? Am looking for something in walking distance of LA Cafe.

Am looking at Citystate Tower at P1300. Any experience to share there? Have walked by it many times but have never stayed.

I looked up the website - the cheapest they have is 1700 pesos at Rothman. Just wondering how you got the 1300-1500 pesos rate.

200 pesos not a lot, but it adds up with a longer stay and I would rather spend my pesos on the girls I meet.

I stayed at Midland Plaza for two nights although I booked for four nights.
I stayed at room 1210, nice room , nice aircon, clean bathroom although there were some cockroaches inside the light fixture.
The cover all sheet was dusty and may not have been washed for ages. In fact it gave me a mild allergic reaction. I had my GF with me. The place is very GF in fact lot of working girls live in the apartments there. I saw some really nice looking ones.
When you pay $40/night I would like to stay in a all hotel thing, rather than with apartments as well.
If you book through the website they charge 10% booking charge and the hotel will charge you 1800 pesos. I argued that they should reduce but to no avail. I do not think I will get back $16 I paid when I booked.
Better to pay $50/night in a good hotel.
I would never stay there again although the location next to Robinson Mall and near to LA cafe may be wiorth it for some. But overall it is a rundown Hotel. I was very afraid of the creaky elevator with the guy pushing the door to close and it was dirty and wet.

Been there. basic room, very small with little light, but had a very functional queen size bed and isn't that what we really care about?
Also, nothing creepy crawly that I noticed and that is a deal killer for me. where did you find the 1300 rate? I might need a hang-out for June 28.....

I saw it on the Action Travel Angeles website (www.actiontravelac.com), but they need to update. E-mailed about it and they said 1,515 net, and today they're saying 1,550. Which is close to $34. Is that still a deal?

Yeah, I guess the days of 999 rates at 54/$1 are gone. 1,550 at 46/$1 is almost double.

hi,
try the new hyatt it is near La cafe and "action" also Manila Diamond and Pan Pacific. Rates can be found on asiatravel. For hyatt you can ry the hyatt site. Those are high end hotels. Manila hotel goes for 92 US, has his own class, stayed there once. Rooms dont impress me much. a bit far off to "action". Those hotels mention above are walking distance and all GF.
Bayview Park hotel is also a gud choice for 50 US with breakfast buffet.
if you stay at the New Hyatt at Ermita Mh de pilar , let us know how it was.

Hi,
I use their service to go AC with fly the bus. Rooms are ok, but I check all hotel last time on mh del pilar while I stayed in frendy hotel deluxe room for I think 1500 or 1800 pesos, not sure and none of the hotels have big rooms like them, also "silent aircon". Gud thing its very near "action" a 7/11 and internetcafe 24 hours open.

I also holding a businesscard from souther cross hotel ij my hand (right around the corner on Swagman hotel manila) room rates frm 1300 to 1650p a night. Havent seen the rooms there yet, because they fully booked last time.

Stayed at oposite hotel, aussie owned, name was like slash hut or something like this. Silent aircon, clean and nice manager who take gud care of you.

website of frendy hotel http://www.hotelfrendy.com/

Im there next week you can also pm me for more info.

I suggest you book a hotel for one night and stay there and next day you just go and check other hotels and prices in ur area and see if u liked them more. Also noise level plays a big role to me. Last time bestwestern gave me a gud price but they renovate their rooms and the last thing I wanted was somebody hammer the whole day and keep me away from sleep.

I stay there every year I go, they just remodeled the lobby and some floors. Other floors are in the process of remodeling so they have different prices as well. The older rooms can be had for approx US$65 per night, the newer remodeled rooms are closer to US$90 per night.

The older rooms have worn out carpet, musty aircon, older bathrooms, and less features i.e. no DSL internet, smaller or less furniture, older rattan chairs.

The newer rooms include DSL internet, new soft carpet, updated bathrooms, Califonia King sized beds (larger for more girls), and newer more comfortable furniture. Also the small refrigerator is hidden under the TV instead of the closet.

Girl friendly as they will allow girls up in the room, but if you bring them in at night, they will have the girl leave her ID @ the desk in an area controlled by security, and if she leaves alone, they will call you to see if she is ok to go. Helps prevent runners or someone who stole from you from leaving.

I would reccommend, but be aware the girls think this hotel is upper class, so they may expect you to pay more. 15 minute walk to LA Cafe, 5 minutes to Robinson's Mall. You can walk to LA Cafe through the mall to be in aircon for a few minutes by going in the entrance straight down the block, and going out the exit near the Robinson's and BK. Then just walk two blocks to the west and you are there.

Check this out, Im a bt of an aircon freak. If I see an aircon. I can tell without turning it on if it keep me up all night or not LOL.

this hotel has silent aircons, rooms are very clean (aussie owner) and the aircons placed on the right spot, not as in many other hotels where hoteliers seems to have no clue where to place aircon.

I stayed there last time when I was on my way back from AC to catch my flight in Manila at midnight. Booked room for 1/2 day, so I could have some ST in LA cafe or/and nice massage and some shower to arrive fresh at the airport.

Avoid rooms on the 2nd floor as you will get noise from above - especially if some idiot decides to pace the floor in hard shoes at 3am as seemed to be the case when I was there. The most expensive rooms (about 1600) would be best, but might be hard to get on short notice.

What is the budget and what area of "action" are you referring to?

I don't know much about Makati (Burgos action area), so I'll stick to Ermita (LA cafe action) / Malate.

If I had the bucks, I'd stay at the Japanese-owned Diamond Hotel. It's on Roxas, on the bay (across the street from the lively BayWalk), but most people would take a taxi to get to the "action", although LA cafe is walkable. Since I don't have the bucks, I go there with a girl for a drink either in the bar or poolside. Beautiful place on Roxas / bay views. I've never been in the rooms.

Here are some 3 star places that I found great value at around 2500 pesos. The more expensive rooms (3000+) might suffice for what you are looking for.

Relatively cheap (2400+), but with a whiff of art deco elegance is the Miramar Hotel. My only complaint is they wouldn't let me store a bag. I ended up renting a cheap room at Slouch Hat just to store my bag during a trip to Tagaytay. It's right on Roxas and front rooms would have a view of the bay. Unfortunately, the surrounding area is kind of run down (near Swaggy).

Paco Park Hotel has a nice sports bar and a nice pool / poolside tables with plenty of plants and a tropical feel. The rooms can be a treat, with antique furniture and a color theme. You got to see the pink and gold rooms. It's next to the interesting Paco Park, but a taxi ride to the "action". If anyone has dated the hot receptionist there, please pm me! Avoid the cheaper rooms as they get too much noise.

Executive - very close to the action

Anyway, Poker man, let us know what you end up with.

If you don't know there is a ASEAN Conference going on in Manila this week. Most of the good hotels are packed. I texted the Club Manager at the Diamond and I got my room, no problem. Sometimes I find it is good to stay in the same hotel and be known. Last week I was there and I need a special girl picked up before I arrived and they picked her up and delivered her to me. I also left my laptop power cord in my room and they packaged it up and sent it to me in GenSan and said they would add it to my next stay (600P). I like service.

I will be in Manila the 1st - 3rd of Aug. If any members want to have a drink pm me.

Thanks. I might have to stay there -- just for one night. Is the free meal for two?

As for V, I never thought I needed any extra help either - typically doing a lady once in the eve and once in the morn - and maybe more if she was really hot. Sometimes too much alcohol made things dicey for the evening romp, though. But after using Cialis for the first time earlier this year, I can certainly see the big advantage. I can wake up in the middle of the night, give her a little hug - and what do you know. Ready for action again. I still. can't cum more than twice or three times in a 16 hour period, but I get a lot of rides.

I typically bite off half a tab and find it works just as well. It also seems to reduce the side effect - a headache.

Sorry, dinner is free only for paid guest. Last week when I was there and my special friend flew in to see me, they charged me $20 for her to stay in my room (announced) and she received the same club service as me. When I stay and bring in friends for the night, they never ask/say anything.

I have one girl that I have been seeing for three months and about a month ago on our exit (hotel taxi to take her home and me to airport) the bellhop asked her if I was her BF. She replied yes and he said watch him and be careful.

Well, needless to say that she told me in the taxi and the next week guess who was back in the hotel, ME. So I called him on it and told him that if he ever talks to her again or to any other girl that I bring, I would take care of him. He was like sorry, sorry and I said no need to be sorry, just don't let it happen again.

I will arrive back in Manila today and I have three girls lined up, plus my GF. I may need to try the Cialis.

Hi Guys,

I see that many people are concerned about whether a hotel is "girl friendly". Having read the reports, however, I see no mention of any hotel being "not girl friendly". Are there any hotels in Manila that are genuinely "not girl friendly"?

If so, how are they? Do they not allow the girls to go up to your room after certain hours? I've stayed in Westin Philippines Plaza once and they insisted that my girl show her ID at the front desk and sign in before going up.. I don't know whether that's considered "not girl friendly".

Thanks in advance,

Malate Pensionne is such a cool place, it's too bad. The lady at the front desk was a real Biiitch about "it" when I inquired.

The biggest hotel in Dumaguete, right on the beach, is not girl friendly. I forgot the name.

Somone also suggested a place in Cebu (was it Eddies?) that was a problem.

Other places might give you the evil eye or treat the women rudely / or expect an extra charge.

Nevertheless, the vast majority of hotels have no problem with guests.

In the general section someone has just asked about the difference between pension and hotel.

The room I was shown had a window that looked out over the lobby. There was a television in the lobby. I asked about how late the television was on and she gave me some kind of wishy washy answer. So, warning flags went up. Then...

I said the room was for two. She wanted the second name. I suggested that "she" could sign in her name when she arrived. After a little back and forth, I said "no thanks" and walked out.

When my gut says "problem" I usually walk. When my gut says "problem" and I don't walk, I usually regret it. Your gut may have different results. :-)

i came unexpectedly this week to manila on business from davao and my regular hotel was fully booked, so my office put me in the oxford suites, and i'm very glad about how it worked out. the hotel is on p. burgos diagonally across the street from bottoms so the street scene at night is excellent. i had forgotten how much fun it is just to people watch on burgos.

the hotel itself is 26 stories with two restaurants. the room is quite large, with a king size bed, a fully stocked mini bar, a split air conditioning unit and 99 channels of cable tv. my rate of php2,800 includes a huge breakfast. everything is immaculate and the place is very attractive. i must have passed this hotel dozens of times over the years without ever noticing it, but i think maybe i will become a regular. the service so far has been excellent and there's wireless internet in every room. it cost me php480 for six hours of connection time and the speed is quite fast.

there's a steady stream of young women/older guys pouring into and out of the lobby and the guys, at least, look delighted to be here. there's no night club in the hotel but, with the burgos scene immediately outside the lobby doors, there's hardly a pressing need.

all in all, the hotel seems to be an excellent value and i'm amazed that it's so inexpensive.

Shes your wife/fiance. /sister in law whatever. They will always back down. If they make a scene tell them to prepare your bill. Your checking out immediately. Its really not a big deal there.

(and I lived there for 5 years so I guess I know)

I've RTFF but didn't see anything on the Makati Palace on Burgos. I've walked by the place a 100 times but have never stayed there. I have a trip coming up and found a site with rooms there for $45 USD which was much cheaper than the cheapest I could find for the Oxford ($60) and City Garden ($65).

Anyone ever stay here before that could provide a little info on it? I see it has indoor and outdoor swimming pools and it's actually rated 4 stars compared to 3 stars at Oxford and City Garden. I'm wondering how a 4 star with 2 pools can be cheaper than 3 star hotels all in the same area.

I was pleasantly surprised by the changed attitude of the front desk girls at the Executive Plaza hotel. This time I stayed there a few days because I could not find last minute rooms although it was not my choice. I had stayed there before and the attitude of the girls were terrible. Maybe the word got around and the Manager/Owner got to know.

What are members' opinions on City Garden Suites/ Hotel in A. Mabini St, Ermita near LA Cafe? Are the 'superior' rooms that, or are they dated? They appear to be about US$65 but I suspect it's cheaper for a week. I think this hotel is about 10 years old now.

The hotel's one bedroom suites are nice and a good value ($75?). The standard rooms are not nice nor a good value. I haven't tried a superior room.

I stayed there early this year. Service was courteous. Room was clean. Decent breakfast buffet. Try to get that included in the room rate. I don't remember what level of room I had, but I didn't pay $65/night for it so it must have been a smaller, cheaper room. There's a stiff charge for wifi access in the room. I think it was 570pp per day, but you could get a discount for 5 days, iirc. A ripoff, IMO, but I haven't seen a Manila or Makati hotel that does not charge for internet access.

Dear fellows

I tried to find some information in here about Bayview Park Hotel (GF, In room safe, cockroaches.). Anybody who knows something about?

Other possibility seems to be city garden hotel (internetrate seems to be 50 USD). There I found information, and it seems to be good.

Thanks for your help.

(will be in Manila from November 12, if anybody wants to meet for a beer.)

Germanboy,

Since requesting info about the above hotel, I have telephoned it. They are prepared to offer a one bedroom suite with breakfast included for P19600 a week, compared with the allegedly 'normal' rate of P3584 per night. While I have stayed elsewhere nearby (Midland 'Hotel', which is really units in what Americans call a condominium, and highly variable in quality), I have not yet seen City Gardens' rooms internally, though its Internet site looks fine. However it is cheaper to book direct by telephone than through the Internet: the hotel suggests booking a week in advance in sufficient at most times of the year.

As promised, here is a small report on the Makati Palace located in the heart of the Burgos action. The hotel is directly across from the Oxford Suites on P.Burgos St. I found a room online for $45 a night which was about $15-$20 cheaper per night than both the City Garden and Oxford Suites.

The hotel has a nice appearance from the outside but the rooms are a little worn and could definitely use some renovations. My room was plenty big with a rattan sofa, kitchen table/chairs, microwave and sink. The hotel has an outside pool on the roof that was kind of small but relatively clean and an indoor pool which I didn't see. It also has a small sauna and gym which I also didn't see but its free for all guests. My biggest complaint with the room was that it had no in-room safe but they did have security lock boxes at the front desk. The aircon was a little noisy but it did the job.

To be honest...for the price it's a pretty good deal. I didn't try the restaurant but I believe I had a breakfast included in the price. I woke up too late and had to get my ass to the airport so I didn't make use of all the amenities at my disposal. If you're looking for something in the Makati area that's clean, decent and not overpriced, give it a try.

hi,
saw ur report. I stayed in both of them, bayview has the better value for money. On asiatravel you book the room for 50 US a night. Funny thing if you walk in there they quote you 70 or 90 US a night and told you to book online, but for the guys who went to PHI many times, not mny things can surprise me :D
Au contraire to Notaknockers report to book for a week (??) 19k something pesos is more then 350 US so better go tru asiatravel and book you rooms over there.

City garden has good rooms also, but I found them a bit overpriced. I mentioned in my report before I stay frendy hotel or hotel frendy and pay like 1800 p for a huge room de luxe and that was way cheaper as for example 2500 for same in city garden and the rooms are much smaller.

for in room safes or security, never use d this service and never get robbed or had things stolen in the PI (in Thailand Ihad robbed from some bargurls),
I think bayview have and I think if I remember korek City garden have also.

never saw a cockroach in both of them, but u never know :D

Bayview is located at manila bay and u have a view, city garden you see either mh del pilar street or just a wall from the buidling beside or oposite you.
For airconfreaks...Bayview has a silent aircon.

Both are gurl friendly hotels, Bayview cares more for FIl am and/or asian clientle but also for us mongers, they have also banketts for weddings etc, so on a weekend it can be a bit noisy, but I wont sleep much anyway at night. City garden is more for the mongers.

For more info you can PM me.

hope this helps

Happy hunting!!

Dear Friends,
I am considering above two hotels for my Manila trip next month. Looks like both are close to LA Café and are girl friendly. Not sure which one is better value for money.
Appreciate recent experiences and comments from fellow mongers.

Bayview is closer to LA Cafe, but it's a dump compared to Pearl. Bayviews used to also have the advantage of being on one end of the Baywalk, but that's pretty much shut down from what I hear. Get the Pearl if you can.
Exedcutive Plaza is nice as well and around the corner form LA Café. Book through actiontravelac.com for best rate.

Stayed there a couple of years ago and the room I had was VERY dates looking and had some mold in the bathrooms. I heard then that the less expensive rooms being sold on asiatravel or asiarooms are part of a condotel pool And the management company gets a split of the income. That means they maximize casg return, I.e. minimize maintenance. Oxford Suites is much nicer and worth the extra $20.

Well, I've reserved 3 nights there using my Marriott points so the cost is not really an issue, so other than that.

Is it well located?

Any guest hassles?

How much is a cab to EDSA?

I'll share my impressions when I arrive.

I have stayed in Manila twice at a dumpy place across from EDSA. I'm hoping that this is a better experience. If the hotel hassles me, it won't be.

I have to agree with you on the rooms being dated but my room was very clean and had no mold. I'd say the rooms are about the same condition as City Garden around the corner. Of the 3 (Makati Palace, Oxford, City Garden), the Oxford has the best rooms but they have no pool. Of the two that have a pool, Makati Palace is better since they are of the same quality but MP is about $20 cheaper a night. I wish Oxford had a pool. A couple of years ago I saw one of the units in Oxford for sale due to a foreclosure for about 35K. I wish I'd looked into it more. Not only would I have a free place to stay every time I'm in Manila but I could have rented it out the other 340 days a year I'm not there.

i have to agree that oxford suites is classy compared to others in the street. the bar girls ask if your room is there because they say its classy & quiet.

citadel inn across the street appears to have many many guests. i made the mistake of booking a room there sight unseen. the room rate was cheapest on burgos but the room was a disgrace. no bugs, clean, but dilapidated to an unacceptable degree. i asked to be moved to a better room as soon as possible but after a sleepless night in the incredibly noisy cramped shoddy room cancelled my remaining booking the next morning & i walked out in disgust. wallpaper peeling off the wall furniture, curtains, aircon etc all appear to have needed urgent replacement about 15 years ago.... 2,500php/night.

in the spirit of adventure i walked up the hill to the end of burgos & asked to see a room in makati prime towers. a 'junior suite' there is essentially a one bedroom condo unit same stye as citadel inn only much roomier & in better condition. its still will not be 5 star level but its, in good repair & clean & quite acceptable to a westerner on a budget & way better than anything the average girl in manila goes home to every night! the room i was given was a corner suite so the bedroom had a beautiful 180 degree view over the city skyline. being on the 25th floor it was quiet.
3000.00php/night (i forget exactly)

happy mongering

Nothing in the hotel and actually, not much in that area. Makati or QC are the 2 closest areas...
