Thanks for the good work, I don' t think I'd be able to concentrate on taking pictures with Jiajia around.

JiaJia deserves 100% of the credit, I just pointed my...uh...camera in her direction and she did the rest. I must agree with you completely. Well since we can't view photos, no sense in posting any. Might as well pull up a chair and chat. Jack: I'll take a temporary reprieve from my strict rule of "photos only in the photo section".
JM: I used to feel weird about being a white guy in a locals area. Partly because it was a strange environment to me and I just felt weird and out of place.
Also because of the relentless staring. I suspect this may be less in Beijing because of the number of foreigners there (although I don't know). But in Guangzhou it is intense and unceasing. Especially for me since I'm huge even by American standards. This used to really get to me, but after a long time I just became oblivious to it (most of the time).
It is easy to mistake staring for racial hatred. But I can tell you that for the vast majority of Chinese, this is not what is going through their mind. I know this because I have taken the time to talk to them and become friends in the BBS areas I frequent. When you get past that initial awkward moment of saying hello, you realize they are really excited and honored to speak to an American, probably for the first time in their lives. Although I read a lot about the racism I would encounter here, I have never experienced it once you start talking.
I wish the asshole white guys in LA would treat me with 1/100 of the respect I get from the average Chinese, one more reason to never go back to that hell hole of a city. (And people are amazed that I want to stay here indefinately, duuh.)
Anyway, now I feel completely at home here, even in completely local areas. And it seems to me that, because I am obviously comfortable being there, I get treated slightly different. Maybe just my imagination, but I think they can sense my comfort level in my body language or whatever. There is that initial ten seconds of "waaaa" then I'm just part of the scenery.
Sooo, I say, for those that feel uncomfortable in local areas, try and relax, it may solve the whole problem. As far as the walk of shame, that's largely self inflicted too. They know why you're there, they've already had the girls themselves. Its a lot more strictly business than we realize since we don't have this set up at home. They have lived with it their whole lives, no big deal for them.

Completely agree with C's comments re a lack of racism. I have found in 2 years that the natives are very friendly, and interested to know you, and what you are about.
As far as the walk of shame is concerned, it's all in one's mind. I take the attitude that you are not going to run into the locals during your normal work and social life, and neither they nor the girls are likely to meet your mum or girlfriend/wife.
If you are a loawai in an area such as the 5th ring road (see the reports in the Beijing section), there can be no doubt why you are there, so I just relax and enjoy it. The same walking around the BBS areas in Shanghai.
Final hint - just don't look at them. Grab a cab, and head off to wherever you are going.

Cronin suggested that one must be careful to differentiate staring from racial hatred. I concur with him with some reservations. In reality, the attention Anglos get in China (including Taiwan and the two SAR's) is more out of curiosity than most other things.
The fact is: CCTV and OTV (Shanghai) have programmes that invite foreigners (not limited to Anglos) as their modus operandi. But I think Guangdong TV is unlikely to follow suit. Read on and you'll understand why I say so.
Attitude towards Anglos varies if you take linguistics into account. Racism is not necessarily absent.
The expression gui ('demon') dates back to mid-Qing Dynasty, when China was ravished to semicolonial state by the West. It was borne out of racial hatred towards the West as not recognising Westerners as human beings. Most Chinese have reserved use of this expression to offensive contexts with one group of exceptions. Southern Chinese perpetuate its use when others regard it out of vogue. (You'll understand if you know what Western people are referred to in Hong Kong.)
Historically southern Chinese have been most cliquish of all. When the Mongol regime ruled China it practised institutionalised racialism, and people in Southern China were legally most inferior of all. Such repression partially explains Southern bigotry. That's probably one of the reasons why I hear some southern Chinese being ashamed of their regional origin.
Before I ramble on about Chinese history and start going tangential I must come back to what's called 'walk of shame' and its links with racial hatred. What Just Me said is probably the shame of being suspected as a Western punter. If it bothers you, be assured that such shame is no crime. You don't need to wish you could become Harry Houdini.
This shame or perception of racial hatred is not needless but quite justified and warranted. You'd understand if you remember what happened last September in Zhuhai.
Not every Chinese is able to differentiate between rational nationalism and bigoted nationalism (which begets racial hatred).

Slavery is the original sin of America White and the society is so paranoid about racism that it stops you from being able to actually treat racism as part of a culture. Well, the term racism may not apply well here. It is more of a ethnic issue.
A word on the Zuhai incident. I followed the story closely. A couple hundreds drunk Japanese roaming lobby of a 5 stars hotel chasing prostitutes. The complaint was started by a female Chinese professional from Beijing who's on business trip in Zuhai and she was checking in while this was happening in the lobby.
Sustitute the Zuhai, Chinese and Japanese above with any location and nationalities and see if there are reaction in the country it takes place.
The story got worse because there are Japanse. China's relationshio with Japan wasn't really in good term. Koizumi insisted on visiting Yasukuni shrine despite the opposition of China among other Asian countries. With the war history between Japan and China still fresh (hey, when Jew get over their things with Nazi, let's talk Chinese get over their thing with Japanese), the event became a snow ball. The government had to do something about it.
If you talked about reaction, if this is in US with a group of black guys chasing white prosititue in the lobby of a 5 stars hotels, there will be a lynching! If a group of white guys chasing black prosititues, you get a riot!
Interesting thing is that a friend who's police in another province actually got order from his superior to remind them to treat Japanese nice when they bust KTV in the city. The city doesn't want to become the next Zhuhai at the time.
Anyway, sorry for the long post without picture. I guess what I am trying to say here is that don't bring or even impose your American value when you visit China. Chinese may stare at you but it doesn't mean they hate you. They are just curious about outsider. In less then 15 years ago, even Taiwanese in China (damn it, we are the same race!) got stared at!
So, stop being paranoid, be happy, get laid and take more pictures! Peace!

Actually I "had" her quite a few months back in Beijing. If I recall correctly, she was RMB 1,000 for an all niter. Now that I look at the pixs again, I figure that I SHOULD have had more fun with her than what I recall - and what I can recall was that her boobs was NOT firm at all and was all squishy, her blow job was covered and only OK and when she "rode me," flesh was going all over the place.
