After arriving in MDE last week, I stayed at the Nutibara hotel. The hotel is ok but I bailed after 4 nights due to the noise from the disco etc. You can bring in a guest for a few hours with no charge. If they stay overnight, 40, 000 pesos. I could have relocated to another room but wanted to view other options. My bed was like sleeping on a covered board, probably just an isolated incident? Perks. In room safe, A/C, no internet in room. Internet cafe on first floor.

Hotel Internacional (not the International a different place). Is cheap ($45/night). Don't expect much. It appeared safe but the single room was just enough room to turn around in. Had to turn sideways to get into the bathroom and I'am not a big guy. This would be a good place to have a secondary room just for your romps if you have someone special and want to keep your escapades away from prying eyes.

Hotel Gran, www.Granhotel. Com, same rate as Nutibara, $56/night. The rooms are about the same size as in Nutibara but not quite as noisy. No A/C in my room but I don't need it, adjustable slated windows for ventilation, balcony. Rotating fan in room if needed, in room Wi-Fi that's a plus. Safe in room also. Not sure about chica fees? I had one visitor in twice so far staying a few hours each visit and no questions were asked. It may be because it was the same woman vs. Different women. I took the mentality don't ask if I can bring in a friend, just do it and see what happens. After I have a visitor overnight, I'll report back.

Had plans to visit some of the old spots but just have not gotten around to it. My Spanish is a bit better now and opportunities are everywhere. Most women here have the same complaint, Colombian men have too many women and Americans are perceived as treating them better.

Enjoy!

Address: carrera 34 numero 16a-sur- 185, edificio fontanar apt 1003

Owner: Robert Armenta, Joey

Telephone: 300-242-1933 (Medellin), 951-530-9981 (US)

Email: mandigo2311athotmail.com

Price: $60

My review:

The penthouse is very nice. The view is great. The location is in El Poblado with many taxis passing by, however it's not close to the metro.

I was dealing with Robert while booking my room at the penthouse. He seemed like a pretty easy going guy when I talked to him on the phone, so I decided to give it a try. I sent $120 deposit via Paypal.

Well, I would say that Robert is a little too easy going. It usually took me two emails to get my questions answered for things like: was my PayPal received, what's the address of the place, etc. I felt a bit nervous when right before my arrival Robert emailed me to find out how long I was planning to stay. Wait, where did I send my deposit, do I have a place to stay, is it double-booked? Those are all the questions that popped into my mind right away.

However, I did have a place to stay when I got there. For some reason, I had to stay in one room the first night and then move to the other room. Even though the first room was a better one, it was a bit inconvenient for me. Also, I did not have a TV in my room at first even though it was advertised. Well, these are all small things and did not bother me much.

Robert took me out a couple of times with his friends. It was a lot of fun even though I had to pick up half of the bill for those outings. Gringo prices, I guess.

One thing that I did not like at all was when I got a girl through Robert. Robert showed me the pictures of this gorgeous woman, and I decided to take her. It was $100US for uncertain amount of time. First thing, Robert asked me that I pay him the money, and he would pay the girl. I asked him what his cut was. He said that he was not a pimp and did not take the cut, and that it was just the thing of control. That the girls would know that they would have to deal with him if something went wrong. Fine. Then he said that the girl is in the taxi right now and would arrive in 45 minutes. The girl arrived 2 hours and 45 minutes later. Moreover, a different girl arrived. Of course, none of that was communicated to me beforehand. Well, the other girl was also very pretty, so I decided to go for it.

It happened that the girl refused to give me a blowjob. I am not blaming Robert for that. However, I told him that while paying $100US for the girl with $20, 000COL for taxi. When I walked into the room after, I saw Robert reprimanding the girl for not giving me a blowjob, and giving her only the 20K for taxi. I asked him whether he paid the girl, and he said yes not looking into my eyes. Also, the girl did not look like she was paid. I am not 100% sure that she was not paid, but it sure looked like it.

Well, if she was not paid, I have two problems with this. First, she did her work no matter how badly and should get paid for it. Second, even if Robert's judgement was not to pay her or partially pay her, and he is not a pimp, then I should get the money back. I did not.

One other thing, Joey has arrived in the middle of my stay. It looks like he is the guy who finances the whole thing and who is really in charge. After his arrival, my room was daily cleaned even though it was not part of the agreement. Joey also was very interested in my opinion about the place, and I have told him everything I am writing here. It looks like he is trying to make it a good business, and took all my concerns into account.

Overall, I will probably stay there at least once more. I think it has all the potential to give a good competition to the Medellin Mansion.

What is the normal rate for rooms? Can someone give me this info? Greg help?
Will be my first trip, like the $ exchange rate, got great info on girls, great reviews guys. Sounds like the GFe is good down there, might like it better than SJO. Will take advice and stay at above mentioned hotels/ limited spanish speaker, very, but love latina passion.

Definitely people to avoid. If you go out with his friends (unless they are female) you should pay your own share and that's it. Whenever people talk in terms of US dollars. You are getting ripped! Any time you are not paying the girl directly it means they are getting a cut. Stay at any of the other gringo places and they will introduce you to girls for free. From the sounds of this, I would definitely prefer the Mansion better!

I heard about a new law in Colombia that's to take effect in January - supposedly it prevents people from renting out apartments in lieu of hotels - has anyone heard about this and confirm this?

Overall, I will probably stay there at least once more. I think it has all the potential to give a good competition to the Medellin Mansion.I think it is always a mistake to mix pleasure and accommodations. In both areas I believe you got the shaft. There are much better options available for apartment rental and for getting girls. Just read this board.

From a RE agent frend of mine he says that they're going to keep doing business as usual and just draw up a bull-crap form saying you stayed for a month or more to skirt this STUPID law.

OH

I'm thinking about going back to Mede in April/May any tips on a good and CHEAP apartment? like $20-$40 a night? Thanks for any leads.

No longer available guys, My Place in La Mayorista still is !

Frank Casio !

Hi guys,

I'm buying a house in Tampa, Fl and will be travelling back and forth more often, so in addition to My Place, my house (Mi Casa) in Envigado will also be available. You can now have the comfort of peaceful surroundings, but with access to all the hot spots. Mi Casa has the 2 main bus routes going to El Poblado and El Centro right accross the street along with a taxi stop also accross the street.

You'll be surrounded by beautiful green vegetation, flowers and your typical "girl next door", but Paisa! Apartment includes 2 rooms and 2 baths, 21" color TV's, cable, 24/7 News Channels (CNN, FOX), Wifi Internet, etc.

Perfect for 2 friends at $350US each, $700US total a month. At $11US and change a day you'll be making a killing. Even if 2 of you stay 2 weeks it will cost you just $23US and change each, can't beat that. Three weeks would run you $16US and change a day each.

One month, minimum reservation accepted. Full payment of $700US in advance to one of my US accounts. PM me directly for info. And pics. Make your reservations NOW! Pics. Attached!

Frank Casio!

I share 2 rooms in a spacious 3 bedroom apartment in short walking distance from Parque Lleras. For the details (photos & videos), look at http://vacationrentalsmedellin.com.

What really makes this apartment special are the fringe benefits:

I’m the owner of the most exclusive escort service in Medellin (Girlfriend 4 A Week: my website (http://www.girlfriend4aweek.com), my ISG thread (http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/showthread.php?t=2983)), so I have hot girls coming in and out all the time.

I have a professional photo studio in my apartment and I have photo shoots every couple of days. You can witness a professional photo shoot in your own apartment.

I’ve been in Medellin for almost 2 years now and I speak fluent Spanish. Did I mention that I know lots and lots and lots of girls, regular girls and professionals? I know the tourist hang outs and the hidden secrets off the beaten path. If you want to hit the ground running, hang with me!

Hi guys,

note that this apartment is now also available to people who prefer privacy and would like to rent the ENTIRE apartment rather than renting one or two rooms and sharing the apartment with others.

So you have two options:

rent the entire apartment EXCLUSIVELY for yourself or your friends.
rent one or two bedrooms only, in which case we have the right to place other people into the other bedrooms (if you're lucky, the other rooms MIGHT not be rented!).

Aparta Hotel Barliloche, Medellin

This is an apartment type hotel in the middle of Medellin on Calle 30. Each apartment has a bedroom and a living area with microwave oven and refrigerator. There is cable TV and WiFi internet (in the hallway). Don't get the unit next to the street because of the traffic noise.

Taxi costs around 8K to centro, 8K to parque lleras, and 9k to Oviedo Mall.

The fifth floor apartments are less expensive. There is no elevator. The lady owner may not have added hot water to the fifth floor yet.

Fifth Floor Rates:
1 week = 350K pesos
2 weeks = 500K pesos
1 month = 800K pesos

Some units in the lower floors have hot water, but they are more expensive.

http://www.apartahotelbariloche.com/

Address is: Calle 30, 73-71 Medellin, Colombia

The phone numbers are listed on the website. The cell phone number is the owner's (Meri) She doesn't speak English. The front desk persons do not speak English.

The upscale hotel that seems best per my stays in Medellin is the Holiday Inn Express in Poblado. They do the ID thing (all better hotels that i know do) and have never charged me for "guests". They said that there would be a charge but never did. It usually is about $75 a night for a suite, great bed, etc.

Please provide the hotel's website if possible too. Most if not all of the hotel's are chica friendly. Most will ask for additional charge if you want someone back. If you speak spanish, you might be able to negotiate but for the least amount of problems, you should just register as two people when you check in.

I checked for this Friday, sat, Sun, price is $77 at Holiday Inn, $81 at Novelty + taxes, both good w/chicas. The price at Holiday Inn had gone up, paid $75 when $ was about 2100 per dollar. Booking 2 weeks in advance helps, you can always cancel if at least 24 hours in advance of arrival unless booking through travelocity, orbitz or expedia. I also have had no problem with penalties if I leave early.

Returned a week ago from my second time in Medellin and stayed here in my 2 brief stays in the city (broken up by trips to other cities). I selected this hotel in part due to what I read here. Overall thumbs up, spacious clean rooms, safe, fridge with minibar - besides food and drink, 2 condoms in case you run out, a nice touch. Also comfortable clean bed, wireless in most rooms (just ask), gym, pool and sauna, 108K COP, no guest charges. The doorman gave me a big smile, thumbs up and a wink after I escorted two different lovelies from my room on different days.

The location is not considered very safe but there are always taxis right in front and a short ride to wherever you need to go. Really the only negative is the noise, even on the 8th floor the combined street and A/C noise was bothersome to me until late at night - the rooms lacking carpet I think magnifies the effect.

Contrast with Hotel Florida in Laureles where I spend my final night on my first trip in Laureles back in February - smaller (too small) rooms, very slow wireless, additional guest charge of I think 30K COP, and about 20K more per night than Nutibara even without the guest fee (granted different area so kind of apples vs. oranges but FWIW...)

I recently went to Medellin and stayed in the Holiday Day Inn Express Medellin in Pablado. I remember reading another thread here where they were clean and didn't mind girls coming back to the room.

The rooms are clean, but I think they'd had enough of us 'mongers'. If you don't book a guest on checkin (which costs $20 / night to start with), they will charge you 100, 000 pesos plus 10, 000 tax. An extra $60 USD to bring back a chica? I tried to argue, they will not budge. I hope they go out of business.

If you do have to stay at a hotel, ask about this fee upfront as they will not tell you. If they have a big fee, just walk over to another hotel. There are plenty of them and they all have rooms available. I even talked to a guy who negotiated a cheaper rate than I was paying just by walking up and saying he'd take his business somewhere else. Actually, I recommend the mansion or an apartment rather than a hotel because of all the hidden charges.

You have been warned.

You have been warned. This is not unique to this hotel. Many hotels around the world have these fees, but often they can get gotten around. I know when I brought a guest into the Intercontinental in Medellin that they took a photocopy of her ID and such. No extra charge.

As a top tier member of the the hotel, it's very rare to be charged anything additional for a guest. Of course, if I was unsure if they would charge a fee, I would clear it up with a manager first.

I actually looked at staying at this property when I was in town in June. However, with the discounts I get, it was often more expensive than the IC. Plus I get free minibar and room upgrade, so it wasn't a very hard decision to make.

I originally post this in the room thread but whatever here u go..

First American Medellin Reality great company customer service was beyond reproach. I recommend them for mature sensable persons.

They were very accomadating and saved my group at the last minute. They helped save our trip and facilitated acclimation to life in MDE Colombia. Of course the places are chica friendly, but be sensable.

The two bedroom is right over Parque Lleras and has no Poters to bother you and your female company.

BBROCSFinished remodeling my place across from park 10 hotel. I can now accommodate 4 couples. Up to 3 couples 750 a week, 4 couples 800, minus 10% for mentioning your ISG off. Other two bedrooms deck is as big as building in the middle of park Lleras. Apartment managed for me by Ruben who now has about 8 inexpensive hotties that can be at your door in a hour. Spent most of day with some for around 120, 000 plus there taxi. Always chica friendly here. Less rules more fun.

BBHey there, I took a look at both of your rental properties. How much would the 2 bedroom cost per night if only the master bedroom is used for 1 person (plus guests)? I think the girl in the plaid shirt (on the left) in your video is very cute. She is available thru your associate Ruben?

I heard that the tiger paw hostel has private rooms and is chica friendly and has all the amenities.. http://www.tigerpawhostel.com/ price seems right up your alley as well. Also it is in Parque Lleras the Mecca for gringos!I hear the opposite. I don't think any of the hostels are chica friendly. They might tolerate it up to a certain point but not if you bring a street rat in 3x a day! These hostels cater to the budget non-monger.

Hi,

Forgive the silly question, but is the Mansion closed? It seems so but I still read recent reports where people stay and party there. If the Mansion is closed in the form it was previoulsy known for, what is the next best thing to it? Thanks. I don't speak Spanish so the idea of having my hand held for a day or two is MDE appeals to me. Thanks.

I have a furnished 3 bedroom apartment for rent.

It is located within walking distance of Parque LLeras.

The most unique thing about this apartment is that it has a rooftop jacuzzi. (20 floors above the city).

The building also has a pool.

There is an lcd t. V. In the master and in the living room, and the other two bedrooms have normal t. V. S

There are room safes.

I am asking 110 dollars per night, but for a week, it is 660 dollars.

Two weeks is 1200 dollars.

Thre guys, basically 33 dollars per night each.

Sebastian, the night guy is awesome. He recently joined the staff. Speaks excellent english. He is there any time you need him including supplying emergency condoms.

He saw me with Scarlett from Girlfriend for a week and he suggested another girl who is a local student and does this "part time". Her name is Juliana, 21, cute, very fair, sweet disposition and is OK with DFK and BBBJ. She stayed for two hours for 200,000. The second session was a lot of hard work and she earned it.

She was better looking than most of the mansion girls and she came late at night and performed well. The price was worth it for me.

Hi guys,

whenever people enter my apartment, their jaw typically drops when they see the views you have from literally any room and window. So I took my camera and captured a panorama snapshot of the views.

Here it is:
http://internationalsexguide.info/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=141895&stc=1 (http://vacationrentalsmedellin.com/images/Views.jpg) (Click on the picture for a higher resolution version.)

If you want to enjoy these views during your vacation, check out my website at

http://vacationrentalsmedellin.com

For the photo enthusiasts among you: The picture actually consists of 8 different pictures stitched together by Photoshop. The full resolution photo has 15,000 x 5,000 pixel and consumes a whopping 1.5 GB on my harddrive!

Hi everyone I recently finished two new apartments, one I renovated totally and the other I bought the apartment from the owner of the Dollhouse. He is getting together capital to change the dollhouse over to a disco. Say what you will but that guy can decorate and is still very successful in the states.

We have Guadalajara which is on the golden mile really close to san fernando casino, it's a 3 bedroom loft. Pool Table, Bar, 50 inch LCD, Blu-rays. Windows are from floor to ceiling and slide open.

The other is Casa Loma, it will go through renovations to make it into a 5 bedroom. Most colombian buildings do not allow for work from Dec 15 - jan. 15th. It's still a 3 bedroom right now. It's the biggest apartment on the rental market at close to 3400 sqft. It has a jacuzzi in the middle of the master, a steam room, fish tank and it will make a impression on your guests thats for sure. More information at our website www.pobladorentals.com

Hi guys,

Added new mattresses today to make the beds more comfi. Don't worry price is still the same. My reward is making you guys happy.

Finally got read of those pesty roaches. What a contracted fumigator could not accomplish my nice neighbor Gabriela did. I thought she was joking when she said she didn't have roaches, but I soon believed in the "miracle" when I started using "Jotanovo", main ingredient being "deltametrina". Before when I would call a fumigator the vermins seemed to multiply, but after applying "jotanovo / deltametrina" they dissappeared. Whatever it is, is short of miraculous as I was beginning to think it was an impossiple task in Itagui.

That goes to show nothing is impossible. Who would think my little neighbor had the answer all along. Sometimes the solution to a problem is right in front of your nose, and proffessionals don't always have the answer. Don't forget to go to.

Where can I find jotanovo? I need to buy some and bring them to the states. I have not seen roaches at your apartment anyway.

I'm visiting Medellin Jan 20 to the 26th with my friend. Considering an apartment. Wi-Fi is a must. Would consider hotels also if they allow us to bring friends over. We are looking for a trendy safe part of the city where we can walk about in the evening, meet girls, or just sit at a cafe and have a drink as we watch the Medellin nightlife. Any suggestions are appreciated. Casa scene and non casa scene is cool. It doesn't matter. Safety first.

Found this website. http://www.theapartmentmedellin.com/Apartment904.html

Not sure if they are reputable.

Not sure if they are reputable. Very reputable and are going about it the right way, though a little pricey for my blood. I'm pretty sure all his rental properties are in the south which is where you want to be. Just remember 2 detrimental things that you are looking for and you will be fine. #1 Poblado which is where you want to stay (tesoro, patio bonito, oviedo, las palmas, ALL fine, just think the south of Medellin. And #2 Parque Lleras which is exactly the Night Life of what you are looking for to the tee! There will be 1000's of gringos wandering about this area to conjugate with.

I just stayed there over Christmas, and it's very nice. It is a legit 2 bedroom place, so if price is a concern bring a buddy and split the cost. Or if price is not a concern just rent it for yourself, it's roughly $750 a week. It is up 3 or 4 flights of stairs, but it was no problem for me or the women. There is a nice veranda or what ever you want to call it, outside, overlooking the street action and with a long view all the way to the hills. Of course it's located just above Parque Lleras on Calle 10 and Avenida 37. If it fits your budget you won't find a better place. By the way, Calle 10 may be underappreciated. Right next to this building, on Calle 10, is a computer-internet business, so if you don't bring a computer you can check your email etc. Also, on Calle 10 less than a block down is an ATM. On the other side of Calle 10, the Desayunadero 10, or something similar, is very good for breakfast. On the near side of Calle 10, about a block down, is a combo liquor-eating joint, with good local style meals at good prices. Crossing Calle 10 going away from Lleras, on each side street there are little hidden restaurants, sushi, Mexican, Middle Eastern. On Calle 10 just a couple of blocks down you have Mondongos, which is really not to be missed. You can also walk down to Ave Poblado, go to Cheers next to Parque Presidencial. Or across Ave. Poblado, several nice spots over there. Or you could go to any of the 100 restaurants and bars in Lleras.

I stayed at Barry's places from Poblado Rentals 2 weeks ago, and of all the places I have stayed in Medellin, I can say that it was by far the best!

My friend and I usually stay at a friends condo, but it was being rented out. So our friend arranged for us to stay at another place near San Diego. When we got there, it was a very small cramped apt, with cot style mattresses. And they wanted $90 a night for it. I fortunately had Ruben's (Property Manager) phone number and was able to call him from this original apt.

Thankfully he answered and had an opening at the Penthouse Guadalajara for 3 nights and then Penthouse Sotoverde 601 the remainder of the trip for a total of 8 nights. These places were big and nice. The bedrooms had nice King and Queen size mattresses, which is rare from the other apts, I have stayed at. Also each bedroom had a ceiling fan, which I loved because I sleep with one everynight. The Bathrooms were great, each shower had enough room for 2 people at least. Each Penthouse had nice couches in the living rooms, not cheap lightweight furniture like I have noticed in other places I have stayed at. It was also convenient to use the washer and dryer at both places.

Location wise, both were a 3-4 block walk to Parque Lleras, and not difficult to find or have your taxi drop you off at.

Ruben was great, very nice. He would call us once awhile to see how everything was, but if we needed him, he was right there for us. Which was nice!

I also had him introduce me to one of the girls that he knows. The one he introduced me to was gorgeous and thin, just how I like. However she didn't really like more than 7 minutes of action, which was disappointing because she is so very beautiful.

I would highly recommend staying at any of these properties. With the ISG 10% discount and what you pay, compared to what some people are trying to get, there is no question as to the value of staying here, also if you have 3 or 4 staying with you, your price goes down.

Both of these places are 1st class!

Just be mindful of the neighbors because these are nice places, and have a great time!

These two beds have cot style mattresses? Ok everyone is entitled to there own opinion. Thank god for Photo's. If it's a little small the bedroom it's 1)because your real space is this 500 Sqft deck. 2)Your location is a block from the middle of the Parque.

If it's a little small the bedroom it's 1) because your real space is this 500 Sqft deck. 2) Your location is a block from the middle of the Parque.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, I was making a comparison of the the apartment that we did not take because of the small cramped conditons and small mattresses. This apartment was being rented out by our friends's friend, not Barry. Poblado Rentals' mattresses were King and Queen size and were very nice and sturdy. I hope that clears things up.

When I stayed there I occupied the 2nd (interior) br, which to me was sufficiently spacious, with a flat-screen tv also (sorry Barry I left the porno DVD in the DVD player, I hope the next occupant was not traumatized). I picked this interior br thinking it would be quieter. It was very quiet, and comfy. The master br is in all likelihood very quiet as well, my buddy slept there till 11 am, so it works pretty well. To get to the point, both bedrooms are really nice, you will like this place, no doubt.

It's a little off subject, but each morning I would wander down to the coffee shop, Juan Valdez, and forgetting my waistline, I would order some type of super mocha, very delicious. It was in that coffee shop that my most dangerous moment arrived, disguised, of course. This dude was sitting near me, with a computer, at 930 in the morning or so, and he told me that he was really into gold, with mines both in Colombia and South Africa (and perhaps other places). He told me that he didn't mind sharing the wealth, he could promise 5% per month, with no risk. I thought, man, that's better than Bernie Madhoff!

Guys help me out here. Planning a trip to Medellin first time. Has anyone rented from.

www.theapartmentmedellin.com?

Are the the units girl friendly? I'm thinking of Parque Lleras #1504, Oviedo Mall #1806 or El Tesoro #602. Need nicely decorated 1 bed with minimal chica hassles from security or administarors.

Would welcome any comments from those in the know. I will be staying at CB 1 mansion my first week to get my bearings. My Spanish is passable. Thanks All

I stayed in two of Barry's apartments for the last two weeks. Soto Verde and Guadalajara. It cost me the same as the Mansion and less than a "good" hotel I. E. Royal Medellin, Intercontinental, Poblado Plaza. His apartments are amazing. Awesome service from his people that are there and he follows up on everything. I can't recommend his places enough. If you have any questions please I. M. Me. I have already booked again for May.

HBBarry's places are really awesome, in great locations and the cost is in line for the quality you receive. The guest will not feel they didn't receive value. Plus they are all newly redone, which is nice. Icing on the cake? Ruben and Laura.

Fair warning to those considering staying in the 23rd story apartment offered at http://vacationrentalsmedellin.com

While renting a single room in the apartment, and being the only guest occupying the apartment, I was robbed of my cell phone, passport, and every last dollar in cash. The door to my "private" room was locked, the door to the apartment was locked, and the items that were stolen were locked inside of a large suitcase inside of my locked so-called "private" room. The theives obviously had access to both the apartment and the room that I was renting as there was no forced entry and proceeded to break the lock on my suitcase in order to go through the belongings inside. By the way, the electronic safes that were offered for use in the apartment were not secured to anything. I. E. If you put your cash in the safe, someone could just pick up the locked safe and walk away with it!

Police investigators called to the scene concluded the obvious. That it was an inside job with the proprietor of the rental the primary suspect to be involved in this robbery. I was away from the apartment for about two hours when the items were stolen and as far as I know, the security guards at the entrance of the building were the only people aware that I was away from the apartment. Who knows, they may have been in on informing that I was away.

The same proprietor of this apartment rental (a German guy named Robert) also runs Girlfriind4aweek escorts, so I would also use extreme caution and reserve should you be considering using this service or anything else that this person is involved in.

I paid a HUGE price for letting my guard down and allowng myself to believe that I was in a fairly secure environment (I. E. Security guarded building in the best part of Medellin, my own keys to the apartment and "private" room I had rented) and allowing myself to believe that the proprietor I was dealing with had some reasonable amount of trustworthiness. Don't make the same mistake I did! Dealing with this operation cost me thousands in cash, not to mention, having to fly to Bogota (no US embassy in Medellin) to get an emergency replacement passport so that I could leave the country and basically ruined my trip to Medellin. BEWARE!

There is a casa called Energy in Laureles, you might consider staying in that area, near La Setenta. You can take a bus or cab from there to El Centro if you want to visit the numerous casas en El Centro. Laureles is generally safer and nicer.

Hi,

I am coming to Medellin late April to early May. Is there not more info on good hotels? After searching for hours and hours all I have managed to find is info about Casa Medellin (or Medellion Mansion).

I am sure they offer a great service but at about $100 / night they are NOT cheap.

Fellow mongers. Are there no other decent options in Medellin which are:

* close to the mongering places.

* safe and secure.

* provide local info and all the other things we need to make a memorable trip.

Appreciate the assistance in advance and I hope I can share some reports with the forum upon my return

I am looking to book a hotel / appartment for $75. 80 / night that wouldn't cause hassle when bringing back a girl.

Has anyone booked with theapartment before? (website: http://www.theapartmentmedellin.com/TheApartments.html) Are they safe? This might be my first trip if I can book an appartment close to all the action and clubs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are these two hotels chica friendly? Anyone know if they charge a "guest fee"? I; ve been visiting Medellin for the last year and always stayed at the Intercontinental. Bought back several women and only had to sign one in. Make friends with the doorman and security and you'll have no problem. All speak some english. If the woman looks trampy then all bets are off.

If the woman looks trampy [like a mayorista girl] then all bets are off. Both the Intercontinental and Dan Carlton have big lobbies and if you walk in with a girl who is not trampy and in your league (if you are 65 with an 18 uear old in a tube top) they will not even raise an eyebrow. Of course if you do this 10 nights in a row with a different girl they will catch on for sure. BEst bet is to get a good girl to come to your room early in the night like 8 ish, maybe a girl who works in one of the casas by day. Just a thought.

Thanks is Advance! I'd defineately stay at anyone of www.pobladorentals.com As all his apartments are 4star experience, the Mansion in my opinion is a 3 star rating for the facilities, yet some of the activities and entertainment for some increase the star rating,"My place" run by Frank casio gets a 2 star rating, but some guys love it cause you get alot of bang for the buck. {pun intended} You can get rooms in hotels from around $20. 00 a nite to over $100. 00 a nite, and every where in between, If it comes down to a choice of getting an Apt from poblado rentals or Medellin rentals on line, I'd go with poblado rentals cause they have washers and dryers in all there units, Medellin rentals on line does not. Poblado rentals has only top floor apts and flat screen TVs in every room. I don't think Medellin rentals on line even has 5 bdrms, Bbroc does and both of his have have jaccuzis! If I was going down with a group of 3, 4, or 5 guys Poblado rentals would be my only choice. If I was running solo I'd rent from Medellin rentals on line as he does have some one and two bedroom apts, Hope that helps

ThanksZinda it's kind of a trade off, and here's why. Sounds like you want to be near Parque Lleras, but only gym there is Body-Tech in Viscaya. Body Tech does not have daily walk ins. They only have monthly. I have a place off of ave. Poblado and their is a gym a good 7 blocks behind the building that does daily for about 12USD. It's a 3 bedroom. It's centrally located on foot you can walk the path behind Dan Carlton and be in Parque in about 10 minutes on foot. It's not on a hilly street like a lot of Poblado. If your interested contact me.

Dear fellow mongers,

I will be visiting Medellin in the first week of August but I still have no accomodation yet. I know, every newby to town is best advised to stay at the Medellinmansion but I was put off by some statments on their homepage: no smoking in the room and a lady-charge for overnight guests. That's too much for me and so I was looking the last days for an apartment close to parque lleras to rent (for 4 nights only). Medellinrentalsonline are booked out and most of the other agencies I found / contacted did not respond.

So I am depending on your help guys. Do you have any suggestion whom I can contact for apartment rental. My price limit for a night is somewhere at 120 USD.

Thanks for your help.

NowrathRespectfully Norwrath, I don't want to hold anyone's money for a year. I don't know what tomorrow will bring and I would like to keep my options open. I'm sure there are plenty of other operators that would say sure give me your money, but who knows what will happen to either of us by June 2012. I promise you if you book by feb 2012 May and June will be wide-wide open.

Hope you understand.

WundieI will also be in Medellin around the first and second week of August (the 11th to be exact). I booked a room at the Gran hotel. Here is the info.

Gran Hotel, Calle 54 # 45-92, Calle 54 (Caracas) with Carrera 46 (Av. Oriental). Chica friendly. Rates: 100k-228k, Pool. Tel: 4-513-4455. mercadeo@granhotel.com.co http://www.granhotel.com.co/

Should you decide to stay there, let me know.

Hi everybody,

I have read many post about renting appartements in MDE and analyse the last post of Frank Casio and visit each websites.

I'm really surprise by high prices?

First I'm french, so sorry for my basic english.

Minimum revenue in Colombia is 143 US $ (in France 800) , and I'm really surprise to see basic studio for 60/80 $ US the night!

This is same prices or cheaper than many touristics cities in France. Deauville, Cannes, Biarritz. Or in Spain : Barcelone, Madrid.

Or if I must compare in a same continent, this is cheaper than what I have pay for renting in Rio front to ocean!

So. I really don't understand.

Hello all,

Anyone have any opinion on The Charlee Hotel? Is it chica friendly?

I'm looking in the $150-$200 range. Is there a better option in hotels (location, scene, etc?

Thanks in advance

HOTEL TORRE POBLADO.

Cra 42 No. 9-28.

Tel: (57 4) 268-0244.

www.torrepoblado.com

For variety of reasons, I decided to stay at this hotel this trip. This is an apartment suite hotel. May be about three stars in quality. The staffs are super nice, the location is absolutely perfect and price was affordable. Free WIFI and electronic safe in the room.

From Oviedo Mall, going north on Avenida Poblado, make right on Calle 9 and make first left on Cra 42. Hotel is right there on your right. Parque Lleras is two blocks walk on Calle 9; Oviedo Mall is a leisurely 15 minute walk (which I was doing everyday) , metro station Poblado is less than 10 min walk (gateway to Centro casas spending about 4K roundtrip fare).

This was high season. I paid 142K COP per night including daily breakfast and all taxes. Low season prices could be much lower, may be 100K. However, this price is for one person. If someone stays with you overnight, they charge extra 30K. I already formed a fantastic rapport with the staff. My natural tendency is to tip the hotel staff throughout my stay. I was having girls for TLN almost every night. They looked the other way and never charged me any extra.

You can ask for the hotel to pick you up from the airport. The charge is 54K. Julio Cesar is a great driver and person. He could show you around all the hot spots in MDE for minimal charge. I did not need his service, since I am quite familiar with MDE and quite comfortable in going everywhere on my own. For a newbie, he could be of great help.

DO NOT Take a room facing Calle 9. You won't be able to sleep, especially in the weekends when the Discos play their music in full tilt all night. Try to get rooms. 603/703/803/903. Very quite rooms and spacious. Has a nice private balcony where you can relax or bend over your sweetheart for hot actions. I really liked my apartment. Only thing is that you have a shower stall, no bathtub or Jacuzzi. I saw one room with bathtub. It was on a split level and very small. I did not like. All the chicas loved my apartment and that's the bottom line.

The breakfast is served on the 10th floor. 7 AM – 10 AM. Juice, toast, eggs, fruits, coffee. Egg could be substituted with Arepas, favorite Colombian food. I never missed breakfast, for one reason only: the spectacular view of Medellin from the restaurant. The breakfast never tasted so good.

Hotel is pretty relaxed about girls. I was having 2-3 girls at a time most of the day. They never checked their I. D.

I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. Many of the staff members became my friend. The reception girl already promised me a novia when I return to MDE again.

BandyMr. Bandy I respect your posting history so I hope you don't take offense to my one comment.

You are giving great advice on how to avoid the silly extra charge the hotel imposes on having guests. The thing that bothers me is you making the name of the hotel public. On the slim chance that the owners of the hotel read these boards then you are putting those employees at risk.

That tipping of hotel staff should be second nature to any monger, but is good for the newbees to absorb.

Please keep up the great posts in the future.

I've been searching around on the web for a furnished apt. In Poblado Medellin area. About 6 months for starters, then see how it goes from there. I have a few Q's to ask you gentlemen.

1. What is your opinion on the "high season"? I guess it makes sense for short-term if the hotels are booked solid during those months, but I think it is kind of a rip-off if you are renting longer-term.

2. I see several rental agency sites advertising the same exact apartment, for slightly different prices! What is up with this?

3. Should I just spend a week there visiting agencies, sometimes 2 agencies for the same apt?

4. Anyone had any luck looking on bulletin boards at the local supermarkets? I scored a great apt. In Costa Rica this way. Most ads I saw in the newspaper were rented out the day the ad came out in the newspaper. Spent too much time calling, driving all over San Jose.

5. Would it be a good idea to go into the lobby of a condo complex and see if there are any advertisements there?

6. Any other advice on how to negotiate is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help, I have never been to Medellin, but it looks like I will be spending 6 months to a year there, and would like some intel on how things operate there.

OD if it was me I rent a cheap place for two weeks see how I liked living there. When I realized it was for me I'd grab the free paper thumb through to the rentals and go see a couple of places. There are plenty of great apartments listed not sure if they would allow for only 6 months though. Laurelas could be easily had for 1 million 1. 1 million a month. Probably furnished. High season low season means nothing on a six month lease. You shouldn't be looking online agencies prices are higher because they need to be paid a cut for locating clients to owners. Prices are off because people don't update prices sometimes, or owner is making you pay cut up front. This is all common sense stuff here.

Check craigslist as well, but you will find what your looking for in free paper take a Colombian driver with you for help finding places to look at.

Reading the threads I figured that this agency is pricey but reputable and providing a good service. I even remember Barry (screenname bbroc) was offering a 10% discount to ISG-members.

My experience with them so far. They answered fast to my Inquiries and offered to send me a quote after selecting an apartment. To my big surprise I got a quote higher than what is mentioned on their homepage. So let us open the discussion, if ISG-members get a surcharge instead of a discount.

An other question I would like to have feedback is question 26 from their FAQ page:

26. Can I bring guests back to the apartment?

Once you have arrived at your apartment, it is literally your home away from home. Guests may visit you in the apartment as many times as you like, whenever you like without additional cost, however any person staying more than one night will be required to pay.

So are they girl friendly – in my opinion a main reason to choose an apartment instead of hotel. So do they really charge? Do they charge for staying with your novia several nights, but for having another prepago every night its free?

So please give your experiences / thoughts.

this is not an email address so i should be ok. if i am staying on calle 10, anywhere, i want to be off the street to reduce noise. one review says it's near the metro, which would put it downhill from avenida poblado (43a). that's ok, just something you'd want to know, if you want to be within easy walking distance from parque lleras, it's better to be uphill from 43a. but it would work for me. also, something i have seen and wanted to ask, i have heard there are several very nice restaurants just off calle 10 downhill from avenida poblado. can someone tell me what the names of these several restaurants are? and maybe throw me another bone and tell me exactly where they are? thanks.

It's somewhat loud Wed. Saturday, I had no problem sleeping their Wed. Night. The trade off is your right in Lleras at $65 / night for a place with AC, Hot Tub, terrace. 50 plasma, king bed, wall safe, wifi, washer dryer combo, and brand new kitchen, you have to ask yourself is it worth it to you. Especially if your out till almost 3am when everything is forced to shut down.

You just show the hotel the key say at most the apt. number and up you go. No signing in here. But everything is under security camera for yours and our safety. The apartment is on the second floor. January we are adding inner windows to help with noise. The price will not go up, it's not all that expensive and I am a fair man. You can book up to six months here in advance for the studio or apartment 1. I don't wish to hold anyone's money more then this far in advance. Prices go up only during flower festival, Christmas and New Years. When not rented we rent short term for 70,000 pesos for 6 hour period. Booking is 50% down via paypal balance plus 150 security on check in.

Thanks for making the reservation process really easy.My pleasure reason, I sounded like half a loon, it's because I see to many people use horrible judgement that can wreck your holiday. Nothing worse then having your passport robbed and having to deal with that. Like Siam said there's no reason you can't find a really nice bartender right there or something really classy. I just sent down the webber Q BBQ, to be installed out on the deck. When I stayed there I said this place needs double windows and a grill. So I'm on it. You have no issues running hot tub at any hour no one is below you except the hotel landing. Enjoy. I'll say this once here about CB, no matter how good anything is in life, going to the same place every single time kind of blows. Everyone eventually graduates and moves on. You have favorite group of guys take over my 5 bedroom for a few nights. It's surely not animal house nor will I allow it, but the freedom, comfort and price, and I'll win you over. Plus I will not knock on the door in my boxers. Ruben will call you and say like grown men the lady below is freaking out please help us out.

Apartment, Hotel, etc. List

Places to Stay.

Apartments.

1. My Place, Calle 85 #51-27, Apt. 301, Barrio Santa Maria, Itagui, near "Parque de Las Chimeneas" (La Mayorista). Rates: US$25 night, the 7th day is always free, US$150 week (US$21 a night). Owner Frank Casio.Possible trip in April, I'm just wondering do you have girls on-site?

Dude, do yourself a favor and do a ISG search on this my place. It is a fricking dump. It is a house where you rent a bedroom and share the rest of the place. When I arrived in Medellin I stayed at a hotel the first night, then went looking for a place to stay the rest of my trip. I checked this place out because it was mentioned on here, and Frank had posted some nice pics of girls he knows, but when I saw the place, I said no fuckiing way. Do not ruin your vacation by staying in this place. If you are looking for something clean and economical check out some of the hotels near Mayorista. I would do exactly what I did, and stay in a nicer hotel, or even at casa blanca or el castillo, then the following day when you learn the lay of the land a little bit, find a more economical place.Appreciate you giving me a head up-Zed.

My plans got a bit fouled up. Paisas; SO FLAKY!

Hotel Alemeda.

Calle 10 No 42 F 18

http://www.hotelalamedadela10.com/website/

It is on 10 directly across the street from Exito in Poblado. So shopping and food court is right there. They also have a nice little restaurant and offer room service. Clean, safe, and I would give it two thumbs up. Because it's on 10 it could get lound in the AM. Ask for an upper floor and this lessens the problem or ask to be in the back of the building. I believe rooms 1 & 2 are the ones facing the street. EX 501 & 502 ect.

Rooms have a safe, mini fridge, AC, nice beds. All you could ask for a hotel. $140 K a night (less than a hundo is always good IMO)

5 min ride to Lleres or 10ish to Centro. 5 min walk to Metro Poblado. Yeah it's a good spot.

Chicas. No issue. The Door guy walk the girl up to your room or you can come down. Two hours not a problem or if you know Spanish tell them that you and your amiga are going to watch a movie and that she IS NOT staying the night and there should be no issue with the Guest Fee which we all hate.

Message me if you want more info but I think that should cover it. Clean safe nice, no chica fee if under two hours or just tell dude if you're spanish is good that she's not staying.

First was Poblado Plaza. This was a really nice hotel with a good (albeit 10-15 min walk from Parque Lleras) location on Carrera 43A opposite Hard Rock and next to CC Oviedo mall. It has v good rates at weekends (COP 110, 000 + I think 20, 000 in various taxes). It is meant to be 5 star but I would call it a good 4 star in Europe or USA. Anyway for that rate it is very good value at weekends but prices go up during the week so I moved. Not sure how chica friendly it would be as quite smart but no difference in price between single and double occupancy when I booked the room online so not sure how they could object. If you are visiting a girl that you already know then this would be a nice place to stay if checking in together.

Second was Torre Poblado which has been described here before. I would just endorse that whilst not on the same level as Poblado Plaza the rooms are good. I have a mini apartment with sitting room, kitchen and loo on one floor and spiral staircase leading to a bedroom, big bathroom and huge walk in wardrobe. Good safe (big enough for laptop) and best cable TV variety I have seen in last 10 weeks in South America). All for 110, 000 plus taxes again. This place is chica friendly and when you book online you get choice of single or double occupancy so either book for 2 people or if like me you are only occasionally intending to bring a girl back then save the see. 30, 000 a night and pay as and when needed.

Would recommend both places (friendly staff in both) and would stay again if back in town.

I am managing a new property a 4 bedroom house in Laureles that is across from Exito. This is the perfect spot for a bachelor party or, complete privacy because it's a house on the corner with bar as its neighbor, yet the bar closes at 10pm so it's not going to be loud for you to sleep at night. It's safe as well double entrance door, to protect you, plus camera on exito looks directly at the street. Other plus's are its a small walk to 33, there is plenty of bank atm's in exito, where you can get food and liquor. There is a cab stand across street and a bus that runs right to metro. Make up is 1 king. 1 queen. 1 double and 1 double futon, that is actually a comfortable futon to sleep on, not the cheap college kind I had in my apartment. Wifi, telemax cable, BBQ, a enclosed terrace, flat screens. Price for 4 guys staying is 140 / night price for 3 guys is 130 / night. 2 guys is 125, no break for 1 person other then 125, 1 person doesn't need a 4 bedroom.

No more of this "I need 20k for a cab". You forgot to mention the nice little park across the other street, theres a view from 2 of the bedrooms, Two rather huge pluses for me, are everything in Laureles is less expensive, and If you enjoy walking everything is flat. I bet there is even cool video of the place www.pobladorentals.com

Thanks in advance!I could be wrong but to the best of my knowledge there has been no change in ownership, they are adding a large addition to the hotel. The owner is a great guy but wants nothing to do with mongers staying at his hotel anymore, hasn't in quite some time.

Thanks!I checked out that Prado 61 B&B and found it quite expensive. They were unwilling to negotiate for longer term discount. Also the place smelled like a musty cellar. The area around the Prado Metro stop is extremely dangerous after dark. In fact deadly. You would be much safer around the Berrio / Botero areas. Literally hundreds of acceptable hotels in the 20K to 30K range.

Highly reccommend Hotel Premier Carrera 52 between the Botero Museum and Vera Cruz Church. 25K a night. Excellent trolling in the hood for between 10K and 20K. They are out 24/7s so you don't need to wait for the Casa girls to get off. In fact I've run across a few Casa girls working in the hood.

At night they will sock you in the 50k range for bringing a girl back unless you pay 20-30k extra per night for double occupancy. It's usually best to save the hassle and go for double occupancy.

A. G.I looked at, Hotel Caseron, and noticed it's around $60, a night. I usually go to, Sosua, and get much better value there. Is it fair to compare the two? Is there a difficulty in finding companion friendly hotels, that lead it to be, so costly? When I say costly, I do mean in relative terms. For such a poor country, one would think, you good find cheaper accomodation. Interested in some thoughts from experienced mongers, so that I may put together, some semblance of a travel budget.

I hope this may help mongers looking for inexpensive lodging options.

1) KONG Hotel or Hotel KONG. Cra. 43 #55-41. 444-5691 hotelkong@hotmail.com

16K for 3 hours (short time pricing for couple) 35K Single Room per night (not sure if they would charge for bringing a girl in)

Very private, love motel styled entrance has one way glass or enter through garage. I was not able to see an actual room and website doesn't work. (hotelkong. Com. Co) No wifi in the rooms but available in the tiny reception area. One block walk from many casas including Coffee Shop.

2) Concept Hotel. Cra. 45 #56-28. 291-0764 they didn't a business card nor brochure!

I found this YouTube clip though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy1tL0rCKlo

I saw the room with the forest theme. Nice, modern design. Flat Screen TVs, stereo system, mini-bar. I was very impressed. It is right across the street from Belle Suite aka Andrea Cra. 45 #56-45.

The bad news is there is no internet access inside the building and they don't rent by the night. Pricing is for amanecida (?) overnight stay (from 7pm until 12noon the next day) A room with simple shower is 24K COP. Theme rooms with a tub is 30K COP and 38K COP if you want to use the Jacuzzi.

Went back to look at a room today (Thursday). Rooms are not as nice as Concept but they rent by the night instead of just overnight (7pm until Noon) There won't be much to do here at night though. I imagine it would be very quiet, hopefully there will be a restaurant nearby to grab dinner.

Since the rooms were dimly lit, my cellphone pics did not come out very well. My issues would be internet not available except in the reception area. There is no chair or desk in the rooms. Shower is separate from the toilet & sink. 35K COP / night is still very tempting. Might be worth a try on my next trip.

They have a Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/hotel.kong

Hi we had to switch out 3 headache properties. We now have a new house in poblado that has only one neighbor near by so there will be no issues with girls, small get togethers, or normal played music no issues. It is right off avenida poblado. We now have the Laureles house with no neighbors, this new place with only 1 neighbor and since I own the building there is no issues. Plus our new concept the mini finca finishing up at end of the month. We are getting out of porter buildings, with elevators and neighbors that scowl at you. Its my opinion there is no surviving in these buildings for more then two years. Someone will upset them and they will use the new laws to get rid of you. We also have two studios side by side in Parque lleras the new one has sound proofed windows and the view is of the park over divino cielo.

Some photos of the new house.

We are now done with our new studio. It sits next to our other studio inside Hotel Lleras. I own almost the 2nd floor now and hope to one day own the entire second floor. Its a $65 / night sound proof studio, knocking noise down 80 percent. Has AC, but no hot tub, sound proofing

Costs more then a 2 man hot tub which I didn't know till this project. The apartment has Wifi, balcony, full washer dryer, flat screen, kitchen. Two people can rent both studios side by side. There is no need to sign in your guests or any other bullshit.

Then:

3 Bedroom house in Viscaya, price is by person. There are only two other houses up the hill. There is no issue with signing anyone in. This apartment has a remote control gate, we give you the control. This places is two minute cab ride down hill to Lleras. It has a huge Veranda balcony to hang on. This apartment is great but we working on making it better. Adding a 3rd bathroom and a bar and some new closets still and who knows what else since we plan on being here for a long time.

made my return to medellin and the mansion, now called the hotel medellin plaza, after 2 years away and i must say i had a great time. the staff took very good care of me during my 10-day september visit and i enjoyed the new downstairs bar, especially the lazy sundays with nfl ticket. they even made us free hot dogs! and the girls were incredible. i like the flacas and i was not disappointed. on my last trip i had gone on several daytime casa runs but this time i found the talent level of the "mansion girls" so much to my liking i was scheduling them to come visit me for a late morning or early afternoon session almost every day. i recognized about 4 girls from my june 2010 trip. the hotel itself could use a little work on the outside as i noticed a few cracks along the roofline. but the inside was fine. i started my stay in "the dungeon" room #9 for several days. it is small and dark but it is cozy and has a couple of large mirrors that give the illusion of more space. the bathroom is quite small and might be a problem if you are extremely large. but since i am not it is a great value at about $59 with breakfast and more than adequate. i then moved up to room #6 which seemed huge by comparison. king bed, floor to ceiling mirror, large bath with jacuzzi, couch, many windows with lots of light and my own pc with wired high speed internet. it is a great place for entertaining and it is the only room with a balcony, which is really convenient if you or your chica smokes. i don't, but i turned that balcony into my own private photo studio. at about $89 it was worth the extra. felt like i had a giant suite. i enjoyed myself so much and made so many new friends i will be heading back for a week at christmas. and in the future it looks like i will be splitting my time between the beach at sosua, dr and here. in fact i just returned from 13 days in the dr at blackbeards and sosua. if anyone wants any current info on either just shoot me a pm.

Casa Blanca.

I stayed at CB, twice on this trip. My first time staying at CB II though I stayed at CB I before. I must say that I really like II. I like that it is mellow and quite. The staff at both locations are fantastic but I must say that I am really impressed with them at CB II this time. They accommodated all my requests with a smile. I had to leave town and left my luggage there with no problem. Alex even helped me out when I had to call her back on her private cell after she left work. That is fantastic service and they do it without making you feel like they are doing you a favor.

Ironically, I did not have a chance to go their bar in CB I or hangout with the english students. I saw one cute one walk in around 3 PM while I was chatting with Greg but I was running late to pick up my amiga so I had no time to chat with her. My conclusion is that CB II is a nice place to stay even if you are an independent traveller like me and you don't have to stay there just for Chicas or to hang out with other mongers.

More later on other places I stayed at.

I stayed in the penthouse that Poblado rentals offers in Parque Illeras. It is a 4th floor unit adjacent to hotel Charlie. It has two bedrooms, living room and a huge terrace with grill. There is no elevator and the steps are steep. But if you can't carry your bags up 4 floors, then you should stay home and not try to chase 19 yr old Paisas. You won't be able to keep up with them either.

The place is clean and has the old Medellin charm. Wi-Fi worked well but we had some trouble with being able to play the music on the radio and the ipod player. Manager tried to help but if there is one suggestion from my side, it would be to get a decent music system. BTW, my intention is not to be loud but I like good quality music (and everything else in life). I heard from the manager that some previous mongers caused some trouble being too loud!

I have some great memories now in this unit but I have to warn those of you who are light sleepers. The place is noisy. You are right in the middle of the Parque lleras entertainment district and the action is non-stop on the weekends and goes on till the wee hours on weekdays. The buses and trucks start early! Bring some ear plugs if you plan on partying at this location.

The location is the best for clubs, cafes and restaurants including those that are open nearly 24 hrs.

I stayed at this Poblado Rentals apt a while back, and I also have some fond memories. The location is super, the apartment is super. Because I am a light sleeper I chose the interior bedroom, rather than the obvious master. To me this is about as good a location as you can get, because you can go uphill on Calle 10 to get to a posh section of Poblado, above Parque Lleras, or you can go down Calle 10 to Mondongos or the Desayunadero, two nice, not too upscale, local restaurants. Also, the location is convenient to an internet computer access place, a grocery store and a money machine. And convenient to Juan Valdez coffee shop and all of Parque Lleras.

Curious if anyone has experience with "public" pay storage in Medellin for luggage / other small stuff? Does it exist, where, and any thought on the cost (s)?

I am familiar with porteros and private apartments "renting" some space in their storage but just wondered if anything similiar to public storage (by the month) exists in Medellin / with guards or supervision.

Thanks,

I've been offered a rather nice flat (three bedrooms) in Envigado for 250 USD a week. On calle 48, around 8-9 km from Parque Lleras.

Could and should the rent be cheaper?

I could also rent a single bedroom with its own bathroom but would have to share the kitchen. Plus the uncertainty of the people that would or would not stay in the other bedrooms (doors do have locks on them).

How much would the single bedroom + sharing the rest of the place be? $12 / night? That's less expensive than most hostels!

You just have to factor in taking cabs everywhere. I don't know what your hobbying style is but if you don't mind being far from the action then give it a shot. Plus share the apartment details with us if it is successful.

You need to stay at El Castillo on your next trip. Walking up that hill to the house everyday for a week would easily burn off about 10lbs!I moved this from the MDE reports thread. I think it is more appropriate here.

I prefer El Castillo also but I would say that the experience of these two locations is totally different and one needs to be sure. Yes, I understand the joke about loosing 10lbs :-)

Personally, I would not recommend staying at El Castillo if you are new to MDE and the main reason you are staying at Mansion is to meet chicas and to meet / hang out with like minded gringos. El Castillo is quite and chicas do not go there for english language courses. There is no bar at El Castillo. Guys that voluntarily stay at El Castillo are mostly experienced mongers that like to keep a low profile and are less forthcoming with information. Last time I stayed there, one guy had a beauty with him. When I asked him who she is and where he found her, he would not tell me. He was not unfriendly or anything. Just indifferent. I thought that was a bit unusual. The next day I noticed that attitude is the norm. There were four guys eating breakfast without talking to each other. You won't see that at the main Plaza.

The guys that stay at the main plaza tend to be more extroverted, want to party, share info, take you on tours, teach you basic spanish, be willing to be your wing man etc.

The above is based on my personal experience and I have stayed at both locations several times. I love the staff at both locations and I think they are the best part of staying at the Plaza / El Castillo.

These days, when I am solo, I stay in apartments (Poblado rentals) and if I have a newbie friend with me, we stay at the mansion at least for a few days. I know it is counter intuitive.

Vit (Or anyone that knows) just had a few more questions. BTW thanks for being so informative. When I vacation I don't like too much hassle and issues however I do like to have a good time. Regarding Medellin Plaza. How does each location break down. I'll tell you this, when I went to Medellin & I visited Energy thats pretty much the type of women I'm looking for. They had a great selection to choose from. How does each location differ from Plaza locations. I really don't need a bar when I can buy I plethora yeah I said it! A plethora of liquor to keep in my room! I rather go to location that has the best selection. Whats the going rate at the plazaatovernight rate? I ask cause you mentioned you would be checking it out. I will say I'm like you I rather rent an apt in Poblado it just makes sense however this trip around I plan to be so caught up with women that the only thing that will save me is neosporin on my 2nd half (HEAD). I would love the scenario where I stay at a place where I wake up and can walk downstairs and pull a chick to come back to my room. Have lunch then visit a casa. Leave casa come back to my room and relax with some drinks and rest. Go out to a bar or club party it up. Grab a chica enjoy the night and let her spend the night. 3-4 a day (Chica) itinerary would be fantastic. So I ask is Plaza the place for me or should I go elsewhere. I will wait patiently as your apprentice. LOL! Hope all is well and your enjoying your trip. Have a trago on me! Cheers!

I moved this from the MDE reports thread. I think it is more appropriate here.

I prefer El Castillo also but I would say that the experience of these two locations is totally different and one needs to be sure. Yes, I understand the joke about loosing 10lbs.

If you stay at one, you can go to the other. Plaza is closest thing in Medellin to having girls on premises. That said. They are usually only there from around 2-6. And it is not a huge number. It is based on the number of guests.

Plus the uncertainty of the people that would or would not stay in the other bedrooms (doors do have locks on them).Places outside Poblado are dirt cheap! You get a 3 bedroom for the price of one bedroom. However, I would probably prefer something up North. Like in Laureles which is a bit closer to everything (Centro and Lleras).

Cheers! The Mansion (Medellin Plaza) won't have chicas hanging around when you wake up (unless you wake up at 4PM). If you want that, you would have to arrange it with a specific girl beforehand. And if you stay at Castillo, you're perfectly welcome to hang out at the pool and / or bar at the Mansion to meet girls (and bring them back up the hill to Castillo).

I would recommend the Mansion for a relative newbie, but really either location is fine. I stayed at el Castillo on my 1st visit to MDE and it worked fine. Even though I speak decent Spanish and know MDE fairly well now, I still stay at one of these two houses because I like the social atmosphere with the other guests. It's nice to have fellow mongers around to do a casa run or go out to eat or to a club. However, if I was going to MDE with friends, I might consider staying elsewhere.

I think you will be fine at Medellin Plaza (the hotel with chicas that show up at 3 PM) or El Castillo (the sister hotel that is one block east) or in your own apartment. If you choose an apartment, I suggest Pobaldo rentals. Between these three choices, the price differences are insignificant and not worth stressing over. Have fun.

I'd suggest Medellin Plaza / Mansion. Barry's got some issues. We rented his nicest place last weekend, the hot water went out the second day, calls to the manager went unanswered and we took cold showers the rest of our stay. I was joking around on facebook with Barry, and he threatened me with a bat. Now. If you look at Barry, and look at me, you see the humor in this. More funny that he wasn't joking.

I think Barry's been reading the Noah Goldberg "Gangster Jargon 101" book while doing lines and shots of aguardiente. Which is all fine, as long as you're not in the hospitality business.Joansie, I met you and I can say,

I fight guys like you on the way to a fight.

The water never went out. Scum bags like you should stay in Costa Rica. All you do is provoke people. You can't stop pushing people buttons. Besides the fact I'm not even in Colombia.

But the fact I got to you makes me smile. What did you say to me. It wouldn't be me if I didn't get you blood to boil.

Your quote.

"We're all chill here. Just getting you going jersey boy. Is it too late to click the maid option? Would she cook us breakfast for a price?

If the place sucks then why this above?

Don't use the deads name in vane. Please go back to monger net.

Or chica landia or where ever the slime it is you hang your hat these days.

Play E-Gangster all you want. It starts and ends with your keyboard. The fact is you got off to a good start in the apt biz, and then took a shit somewhere along the way. Now you're pissy when people call you on it.

The hot water went out, and nobody answered or returned calls. We took cold showers the rest of our stay. That's simple mismanagement. Maybe you had it turned off because you couldn't take a joke. I really don't care any more.

People who live like Noah Goldberg lived, generally die like Noah Goldberg died. It's simple cause and effect. That jerkoff threatened me over a $9 domain anyone could have bought the week before the hounds of fate caught his ass. Now it seems you're eager to fill that void. Not by you it won't happen. To quote Charlie Murphy the issue I have with you is that your a habitual line stepper.

How many off color comments you leave on my Facebook

How crazy you get when I didn't want to pay $300 a month to advertise on your shitty website?

You went ape shit on me?

Were you a paid guest at my apartment? No you oozed your way in and made a profit off the commission I gave you.

So if there was a problem since they were your clients you should have opened your mouth to me like you always do.

There is nothing in the log about it
the hot water going out. By the way it's Colombia sometimes the water is off. I don't control this the same way I can't control what pills you pop or how much you drink before crying to everyone here that I threatened you. You deserved it for all the shit you put me through.
I find it in toon with exactly how you are to come here with this nonsense. I think you should cry wolf somewhere else.

I'm not a Internet tough guy I walk up and down calle 10 April 29-July 4 if your looking for me I'm easy to find.

Barry and Ruben were very responsive to my questions / requests and helpful in organizing transport to / from the the apartment. No hay problemas! Would definitely rent from them again. Needed to turn in my apartment keys late because when he called for the key I was waiting for a chica from Luna Lunera to show up at my room (over at the Castillo. Was double-booking). Told me "not a problem" and we met up later that evening and I handed the key to him personally.

I am calling it out loud and clear joansie is a liar. With that said to Joansie defense.

We can't make everybody happy. It's impossible to think this. For some reason this month for what ever reason we have been fighting with way to many people. It's a hard job looks easy but especially in casa Loma and Santa Maria. Trying to have our clients happy and the residents happy. A fair price for everyone it's not easy. After his 6 or 7th little cute Facebook post plus his trying to goat me into his banner ad I threatened him. He surely deserved it. If that seals my fate in Medellin with the monger community so be it. But I doubt it. People have been sending me tells all day saying they know him from San Jose. What a dick seems to be the common theme. Full of himself seems to be the other. Your call ISG

I'm one of the most documented monger trip reporters on the internet. Show me one place where I fried anyone for any other reason aside from having a bad experience at their place. All this drivel about my motives is simply smoke to distract from his failings. I don't have a commercial interest in Medellin at any level.

Fact: I stayed at Casa Loma this last weekend.

Fact: The hot water went out Friday night.

Fact: Several calls to management were made, messages left without answer for the duration of our stay.

Fact: We took cold showers Saturday and Sunday, not by choice.

Anything else about me being a dick, Barry medaling at the special olympics, all irrelevant.

I don't think 100% of people have a bad experience with Pob Rentals. Maybe not even half. But too many do for a hospitality business. A restaurant where only 20% of the diners got sick is still a restaurant I suggest avoiding. The same with Poblado rentals.

In a normal apartment there is one water heater. In casa loma there are 4 different water heaters because of the size. All run from electric. If all the different hot water heaters went out then the electric was off, which you never claim. Otherwise not all 6 showers were without hot water, impossible. They couldn't be turned off either from outside the apartment before you claim this and that I would do out of spite.

You made this all up to embarrass and belittle me because I dared to threaten you after about 7 stupid comments that you left me with the last one being about your mayorista working girls getting into a fight with the tenants of casa loma in the elevators.

Your comment from Facebook
Monger Jonesie If you didn't need any more bitterness fuel, one of the mayorista girls we brought over for tln got into it with a neighbor in the elevator. Then she emptied the candlewax into the shower and clogged up my shower. So about that deposit...

Yes Michael or joansie whatever your name is it is a sick place. I own a bunch of "sick" places.

You did this just to amuse yourself after you we're paid over a $100 for booking these guys into my apartment. By me.
Then you got yourself invited by them only to come down here and bust my balls.

Sounds about right?

In a regular small apartment (where you belong mind you) this could happen, but it couldn't happen here.

Special Olympics is that one of the names of the pills you pop?

In casa loma no it couldn't at least one or two or possibly three showers would still have hot water.

You came up with the wrong lie this time. You don't know enough about apartments to even know this. You got back to San Jose and said how can I get to Barry, well since no one reads my site ill take it to ISG. Where people actually do come and read the forums.

Next time come up with bed bugs that's a winner.

Which leads me to believe most of your reports on your website are made up lies. No one should go any of your websites because you personally make up the stories.

I checked into your apartment with every intention of giving you a great review. Even after you couldn't take a joke, that hadn't changed. I review based on my experience, not my opinion of your personality. Judging by the extensive measures you've gone to discredit that review, I'd say you didn't care for my review.

What may make your case a little difficult, is than anybody can go on this or any other site and read one of my 100+ trip reports and use that to judge my credibility. I've even given shifty Cuban apartments the benefit of the doubt much of the time. You, on the other hand, have months of arguments and accusations on multiple sites, name calling and slander at other guys who, according to you, for no good reason just made up complaints about your apartments to hurt you, a complete stranger.

Medellinpaisa is a non-prof hobby. It will most likely never be more than that. I wanted the plural form, but it was taken by some goofball in Kansas (who later turned out to be my buddy). I'll point out that domain sat available for years before I bought it for $9. So if your scumbag friend would have taken 5 minutes away from ripping his fellow gringos off, he could have owned it.

In the end, you should take an honest assessment of your business model. You started off really well. Then something, or several things changed and you've been taking a [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) ever since. I tried to stay at your place so I'd have a better rounded point of reference towards lodging options in Medellin. If you were being a douche, and still the king of hospitality, I would have said exactly that (case in point, Hotel Amistad).

Barry, You need to go back to the way you were doing things a year ago, before whatever personal or professional events took place and keep things as simple as possible. You're making an enemy every 5 minutes these days.
Joansie thanks for your business advice. Let me grab a pen and pad so you can enlighten me more.

You lied about the hot water. You lied about no business interests in Medellin.

Noah was never a friend you keep bringing that up. You grabbed his domain good for you.
What review did I try to discredit that you lied. Yes I called you out because its impossible all four water heater went off. It's just to prove your character. Your quote the place is awesome. That only changed after I threatened you. You deserved the ribbing after how good I been to you. You take great pleasure in fucking with me. Being a habitual line stepper. I'm not changing anything about my buissness thanks because if works and keeps you away from it then I am truly happy. Medellin tourists are 90% coolest travelers. But we get about 10% dicks. You fall into the 10% category.
Please I'm done here. I don't need any advice from you on on running a business. You got to stay in my mansion for free good for you. I told you I'm easy to find. All this has done nothing but have our phone ring off the hook. So whatever you were hoping to get out of this you again failed. My business isn't all mongers. It's families and that's what I truly want as clients. I don't mind mongers as long as they can behave. You like to rib me but when I ribbed you back you tried trashing me. You never done business with me previous so how do you know I wasn't the same dick back two years ago?

My advice to you. Stop giving advice. Stop being a standup drunk and grow up.

He always throws killer parties when he is in town with some great girls. The girls all respect Barry because he treats them well. Your facebook joke with Barry was a douchebag move. I know those guys get very stressed over neighbors in those high class buildings. Any guy with a little bit of empathy for the small business operator would recognize what a crappy joke that was. I think you only hurt yourself with public fueds with class operators in the monger scene.

I see it more clearly now. It's his own jealousy problems. We even took the main guy who paid for the apartment to get a SIM card and put minutes on his phone. He even re-rented a apartment from me. So if I gave crappy service then why? Joansie has issues with anyone who will not pay for a banner ad on his site. He contacted me in such a obnoxious way that I almost felt threatened. So he came up with this lie about hot water. When he realized he was caught he points to that he has no interest in Medellin but that's a lie he owns a website. He tries to sidetrack by saying its a hobby. With banner ads up and everything. He doesn't really run it but if that's true then why am I banned for life from it now? Then he points to something as vague as I am making enemies every 5 minutes.

Look if you want to review places you have to be honest and truthful and have intergretity. I don't think he is showing he has any of these attributes.

What he wrote on Facebook was just one of the many of deuce bag posts he left me.

They usually come in around 1-2am when he probably has just returned from drinking and his level of deuchyness is at it's optimum level. Anyway Esteban thanks.

i have to side with jonesie here.

i was a model citizen toughing it out at a horrendously noisy "soundproofed" parque lleras apt. owned by barry. we're talking discos below and across the street, clanging kitchen behind, construction overhead, and even a compressor line running through an interiorwall, horns honking and people yelling untill 4:00 am. i never made a peep about it because i was stuck paying 1/2 the cost up front. a friend, kaz, had warned me of this place "studio 202", but it was too late as i had already paid the extremely high deposit. kaz rented for 3 nights, but left to a hotel after one night, eating the balance. beware of poblado rentals studio 202.

barry made overtures to me to rent a future stay, raising the rate by another $10 per day. as this was out of the question, i never responded to his overture.

then i received the strangest series of facebook messages from barry, all of which were unprompted. he began harassing me as being cheap at the same time he was making excuses for his behavior and attributing it to a divorce. when i told him i didn't understand the necessity of his excuses, his response was: "go fuck yourself. how's that. go find a $50 room and stick it in your tight ass". he followed that up with the cowardly gesture of unfriending me before i could respond. beware of barry.

i guess barry and his many chins have some kind of personal problems or mental illness that causes him to spontaneously lash out at people in an abusive manner. it's a great attribute for someone in the hospitality business. i'm sure he'll have some excuse for his behavior. either that or challenge me to a fight, because he fancies himself a tough guy. but the fact remains barry is erratic, abusive, cowardly and unprofessional. i wish him a full recovery, but needless to say my tight ass will not be doing business with him anytime soon.

Nobody pays for banners on my site. You, of course, know this. But you haven't let your argument be dictated by facts up to this point, no need to start now. I also haven't had a drink in decades. You knew that as well. But why would you ruin a good tangent just because the information turns out to be bullshit?

All this is about you making a huge deal over a small one. You didn't like my joke. So you set out on the warpath. In the process, you crossed a few ethical lines in business behavior. Had you said "We didn't get the message, sorry", nobody would have given a shit. You decided to show us an episode of jerry springer instead. In the process, you're showing everyone what they can expect if they stay at one of your places.

I want to' be like Jackson when I grow up, so I try not to mention my commercial interests on this site out of professional courtesy / admiration. But every time you do, google gives me a little more love. Something to think about.

In your pm, you asked how we could work it out: You can shut up any time.-

Your such a liar no one knows what to believe. You never asked me for $300 for your shirty ************* banner? Liar.

Your the one who brought out the Jerry springer theatrics with the hot water, baseball bat. I'm so shocked you have lived in Tica land this long without someone beating your ass already.

I wanted to be the bigger person that's why I PM's you.

But then I realized your just mean spirited to everyone with now, Bill at the the sportsmen. Really? Really?

I'm done you can have the last word. You such pussy for banning me for life on all your sites.

It's not like anyone reads those anyway. Truth is you loved my apartment and you can't stand to see other people do well.

We took care of " D" the actual guy who paid better then any operators on the planet. We personally took him his first day and set him up with everything he needed for his phone on our own time. Who else does that? Have a good life. Take care and fuck off!

i have to side with jonesie here.

your twisting it completely. after renting you the studio for 15 days you contacted me to re-rent the place again. if the place was so problematic then why would you want to re-rent it again? i simply said and i quote i'm glad you had a good stay. i just don't wish to re-rent it to you at $50 / night.

that was all. i never heard back so i contacted you. you were insulted and gave me a bunch of ???

i asked you what's. ???

and you went completely off on me for being rude.

that's all there was. i don't have to be locked into the same deals with people year to year. you made that reservation in 2012. we honored it. now that this argument with some other person has come to light you jump on.

i'm not mad i didn't even have all your dates for your next 15 days. but because i dare tell you this you chimed in with some nasty line about making excuses and now this. we are not a retail store and the customer isn't always right. if you behave like a jerk. talk to me like a jerk. ill tell you to go fuck yourself. take your money somewhere else. nice you have 2 posts here, what a contributor.

by the way "strong" that's the gayest name ever and that photo of you in that lagoon. gay!

I have read a shit ton of glowing reports and comments about Barry's apartments and the great customer service he and his staff provide. Yours Jonesie is the one and only bad one that I have ever read. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then I think Jonesie is full of shit. Quack Quack

Barry, Barry, Barry. You're like a rabid dog gnashing at everything. Take a deep breath and try to get yourself together. While you are at it try developing a sense proportion, humor, subtlety and decency. Otherwise, you're going to blow a gasket.
