Does any have a Tropical Bar VIP card? Seems to have the same perks as a Hong Kong VIP card, but is only $30 vs $50. It can only be used for Tropical Bar & Rizo hotel, but at least in theory HK girls can go to Rizo hotel.
Stayed at Rizo which with their $30 discount card made the rooms, especially the new ones on Mon & Tues, exceptional values at $11 per. Lots of construction.

If I can do some quick math correctly the room rate is $55 discounted at 80% to $11 with a $30 VIP card, for a total of $41. The same $55 room discounted at 40% would be $33.
So having 1 beer I would break even and two beers I would come out ahead even before giving any value to the other benefits. You can get a free beer every 12 hours? How is such a policy monitored.

Tropical night two.
Decided to check it out again since I had a good time the night before. Went early and saw the girl from last night so decided to chat with her and buy her a couple of drinks. I went to Tijuana, primarily to look into the bar scene, which I've grown to love and like many, miss dearly. I'll mention that I did run into Corema (from HK) on the streets. I know she has fans and detractors. I find her reasonably attractive and an above average time upstairs. I stopped to say Hello, told her I'd see her later, thinking that I'd probably not enjoy what's left of the bar scene currently.
A couple weeks ago, I stopped by Cascadas. Someone here accurately referred to it as a fishbowl. At that time, all of the girls (maybe 20) were in what was basically a closet. Walked in and asked where the bar is. A mesero walked me up to the floor and there were maybe 10 rooms with doors open. These were not small rooms. I'd say most of the rooms had adequate seating for 15-20 people and not feel cramped at all. Some were larger than others but no cramped feeling. So I just wandered room to room, taking in the sights. There is no $1 grabbing going on, at least that I saw. It was definitely more like pick your girl and buy her a drink.
Before I go further, please, don't criticize me as a victim of the ficha game. I typically enjoy that aspect. I love a party at the table with a girl or two. I quickly know when a girl is playing the game. But in my mind, with the right girl and a good connection, that is at least half the fun.
The good: after one pass through, I knew the girl I wanted. Alcohol, time, and other causes have pushed her name from my memory. Fairly sure it's something along the lines of Elizabeth. It listed the prices of all the drinks. Domestic beers were listed as $2. I often ordered 1 beer for $2. Other times the meseros would insist I order 2 beers for $4, which is a scam. I would send the mesero away and find another, or order at the bar. Now the beers are $3 and the menu is not posted anymore.

Tropical has converted 2 floors in hotel Rizo de Oro into a very nice, clean, spacious upscale club, with 50-60 girls on weekends. Tropical speakeasy has more space, less crowd, cleaner air, tolerable music and sound quality, meseros and girls are not pushing fichas aggressively, $3 premium beers, $8 fichas, a nice place to sit and drink.

I have stayed in the rooms more times than I can count. I liked the parking located adjacent to the rear as I usually drove in and parked for the weekend or long weekends.
And yes I have done everything in those VIP rooms not only at the Trop but at just about every bar in the zona (HK, etc.) with a VIP room at some time or another over the course of about a decade plus.

I will be in California next week and am planning on going down to Tijuana next Monday + Tuesday. I have been there once before, but I spent all my time in HK. This time, I want to explore the block and check out some of the other bars. Right now, my plan is to get a VIP Card + Room at Hotel Rizo De Oro. Their suites look pretty nice, especially with the VIP card discount. For anyone who has stayed in the Hotel before, any idea how readily available the suites are, specifically same day? I would hate to buy the VIP card only to find out that the only rooms available are single / double rooms.
I see there is an option to reserve a room ahead of time, but during my last trip I made a reservation at Hotel Cascadas for a suite, and upon arriving, the front desk person claimed no reservation was made. After showing him the reservation on my phone, he then said the room I reserved was not available. I am not sure if he said that because I bought the VIP card and tried to use it immediately on a nicer room, or because if it was actually taken by someone else.

Some guys will suggest that you confirm that a suite is available before you mention the VIP card. There is the belief that the desk people will tell you there is no suite available if they know you are using a VIP card.

I was actually hoping to finally meet the Captain. When the taxi pulled up (from the East) traffic wasn't moving so I just got out in front of Tropical. I thought just one tequila. Haha. I was married to a Mexican American for over 20 years, but never bothered to learn as I didn't find much value since it didn't make me money. Stepped into Tropical Bar shortly after midnight. There were maybe 20-30 girls in the club, but none of them interested me. I had to laugh at the spinner I bought a drink for yesterday (Army from Mexicali) and no matter how many times I told her I did not understand any Spanish she was saying. She just kept talking big long sentences in Spanish! I just kept laughing and saying no intendio (SP? (I don't understand).

You will find that the more your Spanish improves the better times you'll have with the girls; you'll not be limited to only the English-speakers, and you won't have to depend on a translate app. Plus it pays dividends when dealing with waiters, hotel clerks, cashiers, bell boys, random people on the street, etc, etc, etc.I am nowhere near fluent in Spanish. But I always speak Spanish in the bars. To your point, it always improves the experience. I think it puts the girl at ease and they treat you just a little better because conversation just flows better. Even when a girl speaks a bit of English, I still choose Spanish. Often, they are just relieved to not feel the pressure of not having to try to speak English.
