United showed no respect to their mileage customers when they upped the necessary miles to 80,000 from 60,000 for roundtrip coach flights from USA to Asia regardless of how many miles were in a member's account at the time. . All airliners are getting into this, reducing the benefits to redeem miles.
I had to pay in taxes in an amount the equivalent of an economy ticket when redeeming miles for a first class ticket with a star alliance European airline (as. "of course" no business seats were available for miles, but only first class seats.).
We also know that the major part of these "taxes" is fictious. A free ticket should be free by all means. Not charged with taxes same as an economy ticket!
Add to this the difficulties to find seats with miles, both for free or for upgrades.
Sooner or later the main advantage will be just lounge access and extra baggage weight / pieces.
But those flying business class, or more, already have this.
The Asok BTS branch offers a slightly reduced rate of exchange than the rate offered at the Rajdamri branch. However, I haven't considered the amount one needs to travel to Rajdamri against the rate offered at the BTS. Agreed the main Suprrich branch has slightly higher exchange rates, but it is normally only about 5 baht per $100 USD. So you are talking about. 0015% or so. Unless you were changing thousands of dollars at a time I would not consider a trip to the main branch worth the time or effort.
I usually change a few hundred dollars at a time. This keeps me from accumulating baht I might not need and dollar cost averaging into an exchange rate during the trip. Where Superrich really shines IMO is they pay a much higher rate for smaller USD denominations than other places.

Under the programs that are being phased out most of the mileage benefits were going to people who bought low cost long trip tickets. The margins on these tickets are small. The mileage programs ate into these small margins. The new programs are designed to benefit people who buy more expensive (and more profitable) tickets, for example, business travelers who buy full fare open date tickets and people who fly first class. I first read about these changes late last year and have been busy using up my miles ever since. I don't like the changes, but the airlines can and will run their businesses as they choose. Perhaps sometime in the future the pendulum will swing back the other way. One airline will liberalize its mileage program and the rest will follow.

Agreed. Been using same for years. Another, if you are USA based, is State Farm Checking. All ATM fees reimbursed. Only requirement is $100 min in account.
Debit / ATM Cards.

No foreign fees, no ATM or bank fees, and you get an excellent exchange rate. BankDirect. Com allegedly offers no foreign fee debit / atm cards as well but I don't have a card from them. I do keep $50K in an account with BankDirect and get 5,000 American Airlines miles a month for a $12 monthly fee.
Credit Cards.
Capitol One credit cards are the kings of no foreign transaction fee cards. They normally offer several different cards that have no annual fee. I also have The United Mileage Plus Explorer card (mentioned here earlier) which is good for no foreign fees when used outside the USA You can usually get 40,000 UA miles when you first sign up for the card with the annual fee waived the first year. After the first year there is an annual fee of about $95/ year. I pay the annual fee every year because this card provides primary auto insurance for car rentals. Since I rent cars a lot, this justifies me paying the annual fee.
To save money on a trip to Thailand or another foreign country I would recommend using a no foreign exchange fee credit card for every possible transaction. You will always get a favorable exchange rate when buying goods with a no foreign fee credit card. Some merchants tack on a fee for using a credit card. In that case pay cash, otherwise use a credit card for every small and large purchase.
Traveler Checks.

As a long-time satisfied Schwab customer I use their Schwab Bank Platinum Debit Card when I travel internationally. Good exchange rates in ATMs and any fees are reimbursed. The epitome of convenience. Actually I carry two separate Schwab cards for reasons of "just in case" And, I always have a few nice crispy 100's as a back up. Seldom need them, but when the one time I did. Priceless.

Wismar.It's on Soi 11, about 300 meters up from Sukhumvit road on the right side. Difficult to miss. After you walk through that corridor alongside Villa Market you can also keep walking and make a short jog to the left and then again to the right and find another small sub soi leading to Soi i3. That sub soi contains another 6-8 massage shops.

It exists in Thailand but you won't find it in Susie Wong's, or other venue's that cater to tourists and ex pats. While quite a lot have "boyfriends" who sponge off them by and large these girls are free to work where they want and keep what they earn. This is not the case in smaller towns in karaoke bars that cater to locals. Here lots of the girls are trafficked in from Myanmar Cambodia and Laos with some locals from hill tribes in the north and work under the usual conditions of having to pay back the brokers. It's not on the scale it was back in the bad old days but it's there, we just don't come across it in lower Sukhumvit.

Given all these, is 5000 baaht a day sufficient for all of these activities?As some people have suggested, there are ways to save money. I'll give you a few suggestions since I'm at a loose end waiting for the next World Cup match to start.
1. Western food is comparitively expensive in Thailand, even fast food. If you eat the local cuisine, you'll save a lot of money. There is a place on Soi 4 a little down from Nana Plaza (on the opposite side of the street) called Bus Stop which serves cheap and tasty food. If you're unfamiliar with Thai food, Thai green curry, spicy tom yam soup and pad thai are all delicious. You could save even more money if you eat at one of the road-side stalls. My favourite meal I've had in Thailand was when I was sat on a plastic stool at the side of the road in Chiang Mai.
2. Don't rely on taxis. It's very quick, easy and cheap to get around Bangkok using public transport. For example, save yourself money by getting the train in to Bangkok from the airport. You'll probably arrive at your hotel quicker than taking a taxi because you avoid all of the traffic. It's straightforward too. Go to the lower level of the airport and pay 90 baht to take the Phaya Thai train. It takes 20 minutes and from Phaya Thai you can take the Skytrain to Nana. It's five stops on the Bearing line and costs 25 baht. Total cost 115 baht (saving you about 300 baht, including tolls). Also you said that you wanted to try soapy massages. Note that some of the massage parlours charge taxi commission, which means that if a taxi driver drops you off, you will pay an inflated price.
3. If you are on a budget, utilise the freelancers, for example those in front of Nana Hotel car-park. The majority won't win beauty pageants but some are pretty (I think the best get picked quickly from guys from the surrounding beer-bars). Some of the younger ones may try to charge 1500 baht for ST but 1000 seems to be the going rate (or cheaper perhaps?) . I might be wrong as I haven't taken any for a few years but in the past I have had success along Soi 4, towards Rajah Hotel. A tactic that worked for me is to approach a pretty freelancer late at night, say for example after 2 or 3 am, by which time she might be thinking that she won't get any more business. If you say "1000 baht for one hour" she is unlikely to refuse.
4. Collect phone numbers. If you fuck a girl from a gogo bar you will pay 600 BF + 2000ST, plus lady-drinks. It's not cheap. However if you take her number (which she will be more than happy to give you if you treat her well), you can arrange to meet up during the afternoon before she starts work in the bar, or at 3 am when she finishes. You won't have to pay the bar-fine and can probably negotiate her price down. I've met up with lovely looking girls by texting them 'would you like to meet at 4 pm? 1500 for 1 hr? ' Effectively I got very pretty gogo girl for nearly half price.
5. Be a bit more realistic with your expectations. Like others, I think you are being a bit too ambitious, perhaps going for quantity over quality. I'm a pretty good reader of the forum; however I've noticed less and less news about Soi 33. I know its not the favourite on this board because of price and also a lack of structure. I've also read Stickmans views on the street.

Its not structured I can enjoy Thailand in one street. The fantastic sports bar (office and tenderloins), proper massages (cefle), a new thai restaurant and they have a few oilys as well and a bar that I used to go to frequently (Napoleon).
Is there any other street like Soi 33 in Bangkok. That is relatively quiet and not screaming sex shops or massage places? When I take a (legit) 2 hours oil massage I give between 100 THB and 200 THB tip, mainly because the girls have to work much harder to earn their money from the shop. And again they are all happy and love to see me back at the shop the other day.
I don't think that my way is the right way for everyone, but I'm a firm believer in the fact that the tip should usually be in a reasonable relation to what the people earn. If I eat a steak in a restaurant for 30 $ I also don't give 15 $ tip just because the waitress salary is so low. And yes, there are for sure execeptions from this rule, but this needs truely outstanding services. At least for me that never happened so far at a massage shop.
And again this is just my personal opinion and my preferences. Everyone is free to do things differently.

If you are only in Thailand for 3 or 4 days you may not feel like making the trip down to Pattaya. This also depends on when your flights arrive and leave. A midnight arrival and 6 am departure would likely mean 2 nights in Bangkok anyway. However if you're arriving at 8 am and staying for 6 days then a bus straight to Pattaya would suit you well. There are buses staright from the airport, you can sleep a bit, check into your hotel and be ready to go by lunchtime. There have been a few reports in the past couple of days about travelling to Pattaya that are worth reading, in the Pattaya forum I think.
Also, if your idea of killing time before mongering is lying on the beach then Pattaya is the place. If shopping is your thing then it's Bangkok.

Khao Phansa or start of Buddhist lent will cause bar closures on July 11 and 12 and no alcohol can be sold. Some bars will remain open and not sell alcohol (I don't drink alcohol very often anyway). Some pubs may sneakily sell alcohol. I. e. Serve beer in a teapot.
Don't worry too much. Massage parlours will still operate. Street walkers will still walk. Collect phone numbers of your favourite bar girls in advance so you can make private arrangements.

"the hangover, part ii" plays like a challenge to the audience's capacity for raunchiness. it gets laughs, but some of them are in disbelief. as if making sure no one was not offended, it has a montage of still photos over the closing titles that include one cruel shot that director todd phillips should never, ever have used. the mpaa's elaboration of the film's are rating says the movie has "pervasive language, strong sexual content including graphic nudity, drug use and brief violent images. " also other stuff. maybe their space was limited.
it's not that i was shocked. this is a raunch fest, yes, but not an offense against humanity (except for that photo, which is a desecration of one of the two most famous photos to come out of the vietnam war). the movie has its share of laughs. there's a wedding toast that deserves some sort of award for deliberate social embarrassment. and alan (zach galifianakis), the character who stole much of the original 2009 film, walks off with a lot of this one, too.
if you saw that earlier film (which grossed $485 million, so you may have), there's not much need for me to describe the plot this time. it's the same story. director todd phillips seems to have taken "the hangover" screenplay and moved it laterally from las vegas to bangkok while retaining the same sequence of scenes: call to bewildered bride to be, flashback to wedding plans, ill-advised bachelor party, four friends waking up with terminal hangovers in unfamiliar hotel room, ominous signs of debauchery, desperate quest to discover what happened, etc.
as the film opens, a few years have passed. the dentist stu (ed helms) is now the prospective groom. he's engaged to a beautiful thai woman named lauren (jamie chung). her father (nirut sirichanya) is not happy. his son, teddy (mason lee), is a brilliant 16-year-old pre-med student at stanford, and the father tells stu: "in this country, we do not consider a dentist a doctor. " at a pre-wedding feast, he calmly and implacably offers a toast comparing stu to a flavorless rice pudding.
then the lads go down to the beach for one (1) beer, and the next thing they know they're regaining consciousness in a sleazy bangkok fleabag, stu has a facial tattoo, and young teddy is missing, except for a severed finger wearing a stanford class ring. that sets off their search through the city's underbelly for people who might be able to help them reconstruct the missing hours? days? let me just observe that no search of the bangkok underbelly that involves ping-pong balls is going to be altogether reassuring.
their adventures are punctuated by a series of behavioral eruptions by alan (galifianakis), who links passive aggression with clueless trouble-making. these interventions have a certain charm, but alan's funniest scene takes place in his own bedroom, before he ever gets to thailand. describing himself as a "stay-at-home son," he issues commands to his mother through a speaker system and seems determined to remain a fanboy for life. this character, as seen in this scene, could inspire a movie of its own that i would pay good money to see. (galifianakis should regrow his hair, however; i like him looking like a shaggy bear more than like the bouncer in a biker bar.).
i'm no expert, but i've been to bangkok, and while the city no doubt has a seamy side, let it be said that much of "the hangover, part ii" plays like an anti-travelogue paid for by a rival tourist destination singapore, maybe. some of its surprises would shock only those who know little about the city's sex workers, but others are truly unexpected, including the appearance of paul giamatti as a crime boss, and nick cassavetes as a tattoo artist. the gangster mr. chow (ken jeong) is back, still in need of serious tranquilizing.
while many weekend comedies these days seem too timidly in search of the pg-13, "the hangover" embraced its are, and "part ii" seems to be testing the mpaa's patience. i wonder if there will be an unrated director's cut. the sequel repeats the medical miracle of the first film, in that the characters are able to regain consciousness after horrifying debauches and quickly return to the land of the living. in real life, they'd check into themselves into an emergency room.

Really, "Hangover 2" gave Bangkok a negative image? Perhaps in the prudishly filthy minds of some movie critics who never left their mom's basements. You really have to stop believing such nonsense: did "Hangover 1" or "Ocean's 11" (original and remake) make even a little scratch on the image of Las Vegas' gambling and hospitality industry? Do the tourists shy away from Japan because of the Godzilla movies? Was tourism in Australia dealt a killing blow after "Crocodile Dundee 2" was made?
"Bangkok Dangerous" was a much better movie than "Hangover 2" and did a much better job of painting a very dark image of Bangkok (you call it "appealing": we must have seen different versions of that movie then. . As far as movie critics go, I have hardly ever read one that could merit to hold my attention for longer than a few seconds. They seem all to be made up out of hot air and political correctness; or outright eating out of the hands of the big media companies and movie theater companies. And if they go out of their "narrow field of expertise", duck and cover! But perhaps in Europe our movie critics are worse than those in the USA. Whatever. . . I don't think anyone wishing to come to Bangkok or Thailand (and especially if they want to experience the more "hot" side of it) was put off by any fictional view shown in a movie, or even by any well researched documentary.

It seems every time I come to Thailand this movie is playing on some of the channels on the hotel TV, so it is really popular. Of course the background (Thailand) is entirely irrelevant to the story, but it shows all the "usual suspects" of tourist destinations.

I'd suggest tourism to SG has certain advantages over LOS. For one, legal casinos. Also VN, PRC, PI gals. BTW I'm surprised you chose a VN girl when you were there, as forum reports here indicate many find them mechanical. OTOH PI females are renowned for your prefered GFE.
