One thing I hate is unwanted massages. I don't even like massage. Do have any special advice to get rid of a girl who starts an uninvited shoulder massage? I hate ugly girls grabbing me uninvited. My second week of this trip was an experiment is something different for me. In order to extend my trip and get more time in country without using up holiday time I cut a deal with my boss to work remotely during the week but on US hours so I would work nightly around 7/8-3/4. This would allow me to still have my afternoons to hit someplace up and then have dinner with friends and go to work. With the added benefit of being able to slip out for an hour or so on my "lunch" break. With this in mind, my main hunting ground would be thermae. I had taken girls there a few times before but I wanted to explore it more and see how it would go. I think it would be like most places in Thailand, or even Asia for that matter. YMMV. I would doubt any girl that won't go with a caucasian customer due to an asian or japanese preference would go with anyone outside those groups. But also like everything in life money talks for enough baht, say 8 k, I would think even most of the japanese preferred girls would make an exception. Presentation of course always helps the situation so being clean shaven and dressed well never hurts. Last a friend of mine who was indian ethnically but born and raised in Japan found that his success was better once disclosing the Japanese nationality. Thanks for the advice. I actually usually start in mish now since I have found that same problem with too many girls who don't understand patience or start on top and tire too quickly. Being polite in Thailand though, probably does no harm. There is no real technical difference between "Mai Ao Khrap" and "Mai Khrap" (the second merely omits the verb "Ao" and it is understood. The Khrap makes it more polite, perhaps too much, since you are not her inferior or equal in age or status.
Interestingly the American expression "My bad" also lacks a verb and lacks a noun and sounds silly in my country. Just is not English. LOL. Thai allows for understood words to be dropped, more so than English.

Don't be too upset if get a lot of rejections. But to an aggressive salesperson, the difference can be critical to getting them off your ass. And people who reach out to you on the street, try to drag you into their bars and shops, just start giving you unwanted massages out of the blue, get in your face while you are sitting having a beer, eating food or texting on your cellphone to sell you sunglasses and so on are very aggressive salespeople.
Here is what an aggressive salesperson thinks the instant you say "Mai Ao" ("I don't want it") to his item or service; "Well, of course you don't want it, Sir, because I have not yet fully explained or demonstrated all the wonderful features and benefits of my handy-dandy gadget and service. Please, if you will just slow down, relax and step inside to allow me to go over a few dozen of them to afford you the opportunity of at least knowing the fantastic value you might miss out on!"
See what I mean? You are not actually telling them "No. Stop." You are only telling them they have not yet done their job as aggressive salespeople to fully convince you of the value of their item or service. How can you possibly KNOW you "don't want it" if this top drawer salesperson has not even told you anything about how it will change your life for the better or shown you how wonderful his or her massage skills are? His new challenge now is to get those features and benefits into your life.
On the other hand, saying "Mai khrup, karp khun khrup" ("No (politely) thank you (politely)") to an aggressive Thai salesperson is saying "NO" to the whole damned idea of them approaching you at all. And, as you say, not only being polite about it, but being EXCEEDINGLY polite about it. Ok, let's even say unnecessarily exceedingly polite about it. No matter. Not only does it shut down their immediate impulse to keep trying to show you why you ought to buy that thingy or accept their service, but in Thai culture they are particularly averse to crossing that double (polite) request to just take NO for my answer and stop.
Anyway, all I know is when I see my farang friends saying "Mai Ao" over and over again as the Thai salesperson/freelancer/ladyboy/shop worker is pulling at their arm or the street vendor is following them down the soi continuing to show them this style of sunglasses or that model of cellphone to continue their sales pitch, I can almost guarantee that same aggressive Thai salesperson will stop dead in his tracks and back off the instant I quietly, pleasantly but firmly say, "Mai khrup, karp khun khrup." And they'll even be gracious about it. Anybody reading this, try it and see if you get similar results. Or at least better results than the usual "Mai Ao."

I don't fully agree. A dictionary will tell you that Mai is an adjective or adverb if you know anything about Grammar. So Mai really means "not. ". There is no Thai word precisely the same as English Yes or No, since English No can mean several different things. No I don't want it, No don't do it, No I don't agree, No I don't like it, We have No bananas, there is no place better, etc. , even can be used by some regardless if they agree or disagree since they never ever say Yes to anything. LOL Even in English you can see that No is a short form of "Not want", "not agree", "Not like", "not have", "not any".
So "Mai Khrap " has left out the verb and implicitly means "not want", "not agree", "not have" etc. I. e. "Mai ao", "Mai hen duay", "Mai Chai", "Mai mee". "ao" is a very informal word, so "mai tong gaan" is slightly more proper. Adding "thanks very much" at the end is like saying thanks for the help anyway unless interpreted as sarcastic. Thais normally answer "Mai Khrap" in my experience when they are asked a question including a verb so that same verb would be understood in the answer. Would you take this? Answer "not (take) thanks". So I don't believe I hear it very often. More normal is to include the desired verb, where in English we don't.
Perhaps "Mai Khrap" can be interpreted as "Mai Tong Gaan Khrap" (I don't need it) which may seem softer than "Mai ao khrap" to some. Ao is a very common word though, so not a big problem to use it. Girl "ao mai" (do you want (me)). Answer "Ao si. rew rew" (yes absolutely and urgently)! Thais like euphemisms. The girl won't usually ask "do you want to fuck me?" "yet chan mai" It is a bit too direct and rather profane. Maybe she could be naughty and ask "boom boom mai"
You can check with a Thai Language teacher, if they agree with my views. I did study Thai for years, but don't have a teacher for recent years.
Perhaps I will ask my teacher, the implication of using polite "Khrap" too much to inferiors. I am not clear if Thais will think we are just extra polite, or perhaps not understanding Thai custom if too polite to people younger than ourselves and not in a position of official authority. I don't see my GF being too polite to young sales persons. I think she uses "Kha" sparingly. Obviously extra polite to monks and older people in the community though.
"ja" maybe a good alternative to "khrap" to be more polite but less formal. Maybe requires Thai skill to use correctly though.
I remember one Farang hearing "khorp Jai" from his Thai Mrs. a lot, then used it with a monk, which was a big mistake (rather impolite). Should be used to those of inferior status only, or sarcastically when "thanks" but not meaning it, like Thanks but I did not want it. So I only ever use "Khorp jai" when reluctantly taking or receiving something.

It's true that there are very few foreign sex workers in Thailand, but honestly, reasons behind it don't make sense to me.
In Malaysia, the economic and legal situation is no better, yet there are tons of foreign workers PRC / Vietnamese / Indo / Bangladesh. Prostitution is illegal in both places, but in Malaysia the police / immigration raids seem more brutal than in Thailand, with 30-day prison terms instead of just fines and maybe deportation. On the economic side, the price of foreign prostitutes in Malaysia starts at about RM 50 on the low end, only 400 baht per pop -- cheaper than the bottom end in Thailand. On the high end, prices are more or less comparable, about 500 RM or 4000 baht.
One difference is that there's plenty of domestic competition in Thailand, whereas in Malaysia there is very little (almost no domestic prostitutes), so foreign workers are the only source of supply, and there's plenty of demand.
Of course, for Japanese / Koreans, it would rarely make sense to go abroad -- both countries have a large (and expensive) domestic scene.

I carry a very small electric jug in my suitcase, also a plastic filter paper holder, filter papers, a slim thermos to capture the coffee, and an easily sealable plastic container that holds up to 500 gm of ground coffee. So I can make fairly good drip filter coffee, where quality mostly depends on the quality of the coffee grounds. Maybe a bit weird but suits to coffee addicts. A good cup of coffee is so cheap in Italy, that don't need to make your own, but useful for remote locations. While in Italy can stock up on the Lavazza or which ever brand looks good value at the time. Even Illy is cheap in Italy (not my favourite) where costs a fortune in Tops supermarket here. I don't have a coffee grinder in suitcase LOL so have to but ground coffee.
American brands are really puzzling to non USA People. Like Uncle Ben's Kentucky special blend (I probably remembered the name wrong), etc. We have no clue if will be any good or terrible. You have probably tried this, but I found Doi Chang's quality to be pretty good and brought some back to the USA last year. You can get full bean bags from their shop in Ekkamai.
Also another good option, at least last year, was the tourism festival in lumphini in January. Last year they had at least a dozen different suppliers from northern thailand in the north thailand section. It would be a good opportunity to taste a bunch of different suppliers and stock up on what you like.

I have found the quality and consistency of the roast to be very consistent and have been buying it there for over 6 years. They have a small coffee shop on the premises that uses the Royal Project coffee so you can get a taste before you buy.

Here in Pattaya you won't go hungry but never yet have I found a Mexican place that hit the spot like at home, nor a pizza, hamburger, baby back ribs, most of all a decent breakfast. I'm not starving it is what it is here in Thailand but I'm always looking and trying just happy that it is being offered so when I get the urge it is there but it doesn't hit the spot like at home. I grew up 1 block for the Italian district, a block from Chinatown and hop skip and jump from little Mexico.
I get home if I'm lucky once a year leaving tomorrow and looking forward to visiting some old places!So what you really mean is you like good quality Chinese, Mexican, Italian food etc. Not so much is specifically American food.
In Bangkok you can get a decent Burger and most things you mention. Not sure about ribs.
I don't do those. I would be scared of being given sweet sauce. For me sweet does not really go with meat for most types of meals, since childhood.
I hate sweet and sour dishes. Good Chinese seafood for me, should also not be sweet.
For me "sugar" is the biggest poison we over consume. Just it kills us very slowly.
I have no clue what a "decent" breakfast is. It means quite different things to different people. Most expats are well over weight from eating too much crap starting at breakfast. I try to control my BF to be small and healthy and contain fibre. Still a coffee addict though.
Today cooked rolled oats with berries and some left over BBQed fish and left over Mara (bitter gourd) soup. Essentially a combined BF and lunch. Not easy to do this type of meal in Italy unless make it all yourself. In Italy was hard to find restaurants at all suitable for me. We can do much better in Bangkok, buying stuff in the market, or cook for yourself.
Italy was the worst country for me to be in, to try to stop gaining weight, as Italian cuisine is so carbohydrate dominated, and often so bland and boring. So perhaps my least favourite International cuisine. These days I really try to not eat Italian as much as possible.

After many years without stepping inside any kind of GoGo bar, few days ago I was at Fanny's in Soi Cowboy.
Most women there were fat and old and not good looking in general. Just one girl was cute and slim and I made her come sit with me and paid her a drink. She told me she is a Coyote and her BF is 1200 while ST is 3000 (her drink was double price than normal girls too).
I really don't like this Coyote stuff. At least they should make it clear who the Coyotes are in my opinion.

This piece might be sligthly off topic; how to find sex in Bangkok is really a no-brainer. And since we all have different preference I will not even start on that topic. My contribution this time is more related to the nightlife scene in Bangkok. I mean; I love Bangkok. Been going here for 10 years now. And it was really great up till around 5 years ago. My main concern is that those night venues that contributed to the diversity and quirky ambience on a great night out in the Suk area is now gone. Cheap Charlie (soi 11), Climax (soi 11), the old Five Star in Cowboy, Cactus Bar in Cowboy (John, we miss you!) and similar places. Those bars offered a break from the standard; strange, quirky, filled with interesting people, unbeatable atmosphere. Not the places you would be looking for girls primarily (except Climax of course). But plain cozy plazes that added that extra dimension to the nightlife in Bangkok. Yes, I know Sexy Nights in Nana Plaza is there still playing classic rock (oldest bar in the Plaza) and Beergarden soi 7 still hanging in there. On the skin of their teeth. But in general the go-go's seems to get more and more similar, the same "car alarm music" with a few exceptions, same interior design etc. Why not try some diversity. Something new? I am talking about theme bars like the Scooter bars in Pattaya (LK Metro), rock Dive Bars like The Cave also in LK Metro, "themed" go-go's like the popular Airport Club and Windmill in Pattaya etc. It seems like espesially Soi Cowboy is clogged with bars and bar owners that just refuse to re-invent their business. The Arabs bars in Cowboy is espesially depressing. What a waste of space! Add to this highly inflated prices over the past 5 years and more and more Coyotes working everywhere; this is just an industry on the wrong track right now. Visitors numbers are down and many bars are struggling. And I have no problem understanding why. 5 years ago the streets was full of sexy girls also working on the mobile bars. I had the pleasure of barfining many of them. Now all this business is gone. Probably a good thing for the regular bars, but it sure makes the streets less interesting for us punters. Less options and less diversity. The oposite of what we all want. Hooters have 2 bars in Sukhumvit area now. Yes it is something new, but it is like going to McDonalds. Just overpriced beer and food IMO. The Hillary Group really do some excellent work and offer variety and interesting, popular bars. Cudos to them, even though Climax is deeply missed. Well, I guess I am just getting old and ranting about the "good old times"! The latest devlopments in LK Metro in Pattaya shows that diversity in the bar industry is possible, but for some weird reasons this is not what we see in Bangkok right now.

You won't get a professional Nana dancer for that kind of money (she can get that much for and ST and do several per night), but for an average looking semi-pro in her 30's, that should be enough, especially if you have some chemistry. Of course, if you're really old and going for a great looker in her 20's, it might cost you more.
I think these sorts of extended arrangements with working girls are mostly the thing of the past (even a simple LT is not so common). Back before 2010 or so, almost any working girl was really eager for a multi-day arrangement (a working vacation with guaranteed income and sponsor potential! Alas, times have changed, and while it's apparently still possible, it's no longer easy to arrange, or great value for money. The latest devlopments in LK Metro in Pattaya shows that diversity in the bar industry is possible, but for some weird reasons this is not what we see in Bangkok right now.Great spot on analysis of the changing landscape in Bangkok. I would add another 2 of my own favorites that have fallen by the wayside, Bangkok Beat and New Wave. Perhaps it is just the aging process that brings on nostalgia for the past, that said despite what's gone and the present formula driven business models if you follow a path less travelled when least expected there are still memorable experiences to be had in Bangkok.

Hey Smoothy, I don't know where you stay in BKK, I don't care, but all the hotels where I stay are Guest Friendly. I'd open with 2000 and aim for 2000-4000 per day, especially if you don't need her services 24/7. I use that way, so it does not how any part of the message or who it is from.

Next you need to have a password or pattern lock on LINE to stop prying. I also have hidden Contacts so if someone looks over my shoulder at list of Contacts, we don't see a lot of girly profile pics. I would prefer to have an option not to show a contact's pics too. I don't think any App has that.
Once you hide a contact, I don't think can send a message to them in the chat stream without unhiding them first. That is a weakness.
In the end a small monger phone with its own phone number is best and make sure your regular family does not see the monger phone in use, naturally set to silent and do not disturb mostly. Just pretend is a backup phone for use only if main phone malfunctions and is off for repairs. Even could keep a flat battery in it or just remove battery (keep somewhere else hidden), to be replaced by a charged battery when ready to use for a period, as a super extra precaution, in case is found by a hound dog detective.
My current GF is not a hound dog dectective ( I used to have such a GF previously), however she is not stupid. Evidence of anything is easily noticed, e.g. condoms, medications, lube disappearing that was not used with her, messages popping up on a phone too often, etc.

I hung for a bit in Thermae last night, there was some excellent talent. I guess I've gotten spoiled in South America and the Caribbean where you can have many girls for just dinner and drinks. Essentially non pro's.
