Studio is just like self contained hotel room but includes a kitchen.

What happened was a classic case of being outfoxed by people who know how far you are willing to go.
It's easy to be wise with hindsight but my rule is always take the hard stand against police and let them know you know your rights.
The best way to go about it is to let the hotel management know that you are being arrested before the police get you out of the hotel. The hotel does not want bad reputation so they will counter the police as they know the games these fellas are up to.
It's just that these cops knew your limits and were bluffing. Call their bluff by insisting on talking to management and asking one of the managers to go with you. As it ended up, you were all alone, did not know the law and could not bargain.

I would put that down to good luck rather than good management as I have seen many bad things in the Mombassa area including the car tyre necklace put around a robbers neck, doused with petrol and lite so the robber was burnt to death. SG, I agree, I was there less than 2 years back and it was the same.
All girls there are freelancers so you need to give them what you feel they earned and deserved in the morning but the normal tip is between 1,000 to 2,000Ksh for all night.
If you are new to this, negotiate a little before you take her home as some will yell and scream in the morning trying to intimidate you into paying more than you are offering.

I imagine that if a massive 60% of the steady partners of these women did not know their profession, and that these women are in nairobi where most women have fellow black partners, the percentage at the coast is much higher - probably in the 90%+ range.
