I'm contemplating staying in Mombassa over Christmas and would like a budget hotel near the action (anything up to 4,000ks a day). Having looked through the reports some of the hotel recommendations are way out of my budget, such as the Bamburi Beach Resort, which will set me back 10,000ks a day! Ok, I know it's the most expensive time of the year but surely there are some options not geared towards the package tour industry.

I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of a reasonably priced girl friendly guest house around Bamburi beach. I'm not fussed on the view or facilities but it would be nice to have a fridge and tv. I'm also considering Mombasa town and wonder whether it's a good base of operation for mongering?Kahama and Big Tree might fit the bill for Bamburi. And I am sure there are many more. From what I hear, the top-of-the-line tourist hotels don't expect more than 90% occupancy this X-mas season, I. E. There should be ample choice overall. You may just want to arrive without any reservations, buy yourself a SIM card at the airport, hop into a cab and tell the driver to drive into all the side roads leading to the beach off Malindi Rd N of Nakumatt and call the numbers you see on all the bill boards until you find the right one for you.

At this prices look at Geogias Hotel and Kendas Hotel in Mtwapa or a cheap guesthouse in Mtwapa. Even if prices there double for Xmas you stay ther in the range of 1000. 3000 KSh.

You'll be within 5 min walking distance to Casablanca Day and Night Club and The Rio Club and an easy cab ride from Florida Night Club.

Safari Inn

I know only the restaurant. Very good cooking and the owner Rudi has a very good reputation. So I suppose the rooms are OK. The price sounds good. The Safari Inn is a top dining spot at very decent prices, so it is very convenient for inviting a girl. One night per week life music. It is near to beautiful Shanzu beach, very good for bathing. Otherwise the area around is not interesting and because it is near the entrance of the big tourist hotels everything is expensive, everybody tries to take advantage of you. For girls area is not good. The main road to Mtwapa or Mombasa is ca. 800 m away. During the day with bicycle taxy (boda boda) for 30 KSh, max. 40 Ksh. From there with matatu to Mtwapa 10 KSH, Cheers 20 KSh, Mombasa 40 KSh. At night take a taxi for security reasons. To Mtwapa KSh. 300. They will try to have more but stay firm. For Cheers at least 600 KSh and Mombasa 1000 KSh. The taxis are in front of Safari Inn. Most of the taxi drivers are OK, make special arrangements with them.

WSI suppose that's the Safari Inn in Shanzu, located on the access road to Serena Beach Hotel, Dolphin plus a couple of African Safari Club hotels. A few of my ST "dates" took me there over the last few months at Ksh 500/hr for the room; not bad overall, simple but clean rooms, fan only, no A/C. Anyway the hotel is located at kikambala which is an isolated village. Another village in the way toward Mtwapa is "Majengo" and has a very nice forest with real tropical appearance.

Mtwapa is the heart of those two villages both economical and transport wise.

Just came back from a short visit at Diani beach (around 1h south of Mombasa).

Half of the hotels are closed due to the lack of tourists, even now in high season. The beach is fairly nice, but way too many beachboys.

At night, the place to go is Dandoori, an open bar, similiar to Cheers at Bamburi. Ladies everywhere. Around midnight, they move to the Shakatak disco, just next door. Safe to walk, no taxi needed.

Just came back from a short visit at Diani beach (around 1h south of Mombasa).

Half of the hotels are closed due to the lack of tourists, even now in high season. The beach is fairly nice, but way too many beachboys.

At night, the place to go is Dandoori, an open bar, similiar to Cheers at Bamburi. Ladies everywhere. Around midnight, they move to the Shakatak disco, just next door. Safe to walk, no taxi needed.

Second option is "Mambo Jambo", new disco with sexy Gogo dancers. Had a lot of fun there. 200 Bobs from Dandoori away and in my opinion much nicer than Shakatak. There are at least 2 other discos (Willows and? ), but usually only action at weekends.

At the weekend there is a life band at kim4love, a beachbar with many locals, but it's more for daytime action.

But the lack of tourists does not mean, that the hotels are not full (I've heard some of them will be almost full in January). It just means, that after the problems last year not all of the hotels could keep in business and many had to close and are looking now for new investors. 50% less tourists and 50% less hotel beds make the hotels still full :-)

As I bought a tour package I did not need to negotiate so I don't know how low they will go.

Action: during weekdays you will find always the same 30 to 50 girls in the bars and discos hanging around. So there is enough fun but after some days you know all of them. Only on weekends it gets crowded and only then you will see new faces. So during the week you get more the pros, while at the weekends there will be many locals too.

2) if you mean with 'freely available' that you don't have to pay, then I would say no, girls are not freely available. Like discussed many times before, you always pay in one way or the other.

As it seems to me, that you are a little naive (why else would you ask question #2?), my advice: don't get fooled by these ladies, especially at Bamburi. 99% of the girls at Bamburi are looking for money.

The most honest way I think is: fuck them, pay them, finish the business. Next day, next girl. Girls are cheap enough, so you don't need to get them for free.

If you're more into the GFE, or you don't feel well paying for sex, you can fuck them for free, make a relationship, and pay 10times more for clothes, shoes, cosmetic, "taxi money", and so on.

2) Are 'A' levels freely availableDoronto hit the nail on the head, pretty much, except there is a large number of 2nd and 3rd tier accomodations on and off Bamburi Beach which are happy to sell you a room by the hour for between 500 and 1400. PM for a laundry list.

Bamburi Beach is, in my estimation, by far the richest hunting ground on the North Coast. I try to stay away from Shanzu and Mtwapa girls (but succumb to temptation every now and then bcs there are some real stunners to be found) bcs they are reputed as the HIV capital of Kenya.

I've been spending a lot of time on the South Coast recently (daytime only) and there isn't much going on, it seems. But the beaches are better and far less crowded, the people are friendlier and more laid back. Some new discos seem to have sprung up, which suggests there might be good nighttime action.

ThxI saw a place advertised at Nakumatt Nyali, may be of interest to you. 33000 KES per month for a 2 bedroomed bungalow, with fridge/freezer, tv/dvd, microwave, gas cooker, price inclusive of all utility bills, and it is located at Melrose Place, Shanzu. Matatu stage: SAGA. 5 mins walk from the beach. As for walking from the main Mtwapa Road this is hardly necessary because there is an abundance of motorbike taxis, charging 30 KES to 50 KES for anything up to 1 kilometre.

I was just surveying cheap guest houses in Mtwapa. 350 a night for Kandara Guest House. Small room with mosquito net but no fan. (across the road from the Post office turning). 500 a night for Mwalimu guest rooms, (next to Casaurina). Small room with fan. And the best was 800 a night for Joy Guest House. Self-contained rooms with fan and new mattress. Better quality decor. (opposite Casaurina). I wouldn't hesitate to use the latter.

Several years back i stayed at Nyali Beach Resort, there is also the hotel which appeared to be 4/5 star.

I booked a double and did not have any problems with the to and fro of any chicks. What i did find though is the resort being family orientated, and a bit out of the way, meaning wheels are a constant requirement.

Your best bet is the Bamburi area where you will find, all but your night clubs walkable distances.

Weather will be fine, perhaps too hot for you. Mombasa being coastal has the mildest Autumn if you can call the season that.

Well for one thing, you will save some money on hotel fees for sure. Transport should not pose a problem daytime, make use of Matatu`s (minibus taxi) cost you a couple of shilling to ride. However, late evening they cease operation, you will probably require taxi to and fro nightclubs.

Day 4

Any comment apreciated.The Apr/May rains have failed us the last couple of years and it looks like they might again this year , i.e. it's likely to be just plain hot and dry.

I've spent a fair bit of time in Diani over the last 3 months . While you do spot a few 8's and 9's (mainly at 40 Thieves at Sundowner time ) I agree that the North Coast offers you a greater variety overall.

Staying downtown is a bad idea in my books (too crowded,noisy and smelly).

Nyali/Bamburi/Mtwapa offers you much more bang for your buck entertainment wise and you have a huge choice of accomodation, from 1/2 all the way up to 4 stars (Serena claims to be category 5 but I think they are overreaching a bit )

I touched down in Mombasa in the morning. The lines before immigration were quite long and due to the new visa process (no more stamp, but a sticker into your passport – at the same cost like last year) the time per tourist was longer then before. After I have manged to get through I picked up my suitcase at the belt and went outside where I was expecting a taxi driver with a board and my name on it (I had a reservation with the Kahama Hotel and they promised me a complimentary transfer – they emailed my before the drivers name and cell number). But there was nobody out there with a board and my name on it. So I waited 20 minutes, then I called the driver and he told me that he will be there in 10 minutes. 30 minutes later, the driver had still not arrived, I was fed up and I just hired any taxi to bring me to Kahama. At their cost.

I had contacted Kahama Hotel prior to my trip by email and asked them about room rates and if I could bring in guests to my room. Since the price was ok for me (3. 950 KES double superior room) and I could bring in girls, I made a reservation by email. The whole email process ran quite smoothly and always after I had sent an email, the next day I had an answer in my inbox!

At check-in at the Kahama Hotel they apologized and paid the taxi. I am old, tired and feeble, so top priorities for me are personal safety walking around, safety for my belongings in my room, and decent plumbing and hot water. I guess any half-decent hotel will be a palace compared with what the girls are used to so I am not out to impress anyone with my surroundings. Wireless internet and a safebox big enough to hold my laptop would be a bonus. I could then give you guys reports from the front-line!

As a Mombasa newbie, and as I am neither very streetwise nor very bright, I want to keep everything as idiot-proof as possible even if it means paying a few shillings more.

Secure to walk also to main road to take matatu to Tembo Disco and Mombasa. Disadvantage: it is noisy from loud music.

Other hotel Kendas at the main road is quiet but must walk to the places. Normally also secure but to go back take a taxi for 100. 150 KSH.

Rate was at 1600 KSH. Surely not more than 2000 KES. To go to Mtwapa beach taxi 150 KES. Or walk half an hour.

That's the place where the girls come together to hook a muzungu, so the moment you will get out of your room they will come to you.

a lot of places in bamburi area are girl friendly. they know their guests and their temptations. and if not then the girls themselves know where to get a room for an hour or two which are custom built for short liasons should you not wish to take a girl to your place. there is such a place actually within tembo disco, and a number in mtwapa. hotels such as indiana hotel allow you visitors in the room but will require the visitor to drop an i'd card at the front desk; you have to sign them out in the morning. apart from a minor bit of embarrassment this is a reasonable practice and makes sure that things stay in order. but don't email them and ask them as they will deny that such a practice is commonplace at all (and so would you if a stranger asked about your place! ). bamburi beach hotel next door is also good. but avoid the super rich places like white sands.

the food on the beach can be very expensive, so somewhere which has self-catering for a sandwich can be cheaper. again, indiana beach hotel has such apartments. i believe bamburi beach hotel also. which can be had at reasonable rates. not that i'm an agent for this place, but have stayed there before, and they have taken a booking via email, deposit paid on arrival and a free cab from the airport to get me to the place. local supermarket called nakumatt has virtually anything you could need while there.

for internet a good option is to buy a safaricom mobile broadband modem at 6, 000 kes, again at nakumatt. if you buy 1, 000 kes load at a time the data usage costs are very reasonable the speed is good and you use it anywhere in kenya.

local pick up joints include in daily order, big tree for early afternoon, cheers for the afternoon and evening and tembo or causaurina at nightime (after 9 to 10pm). there are more local options in mtwapa. taxi guys know where all these places are. don't' pay more than 2-300 for a ride around bamburi tho, and i'm sure i even got ripped off with these prices.

freelancers also ply the beach in singles or couples and can be better company than some of the drunk or miraa-chewers you can find in the bars. price is more or less standard at 1, 000-2, 000 kes for a woman. prices went down since i was last there thanks to the troubles last year and fewer visitors.

To understand your replies properly I need to get a grip on the local geography. I have googled for maps but cannot find one that is both detailed and accurate.

This is my understanding so far. Please correct me if I am wrong:

Bamburi is about 12 mile north of the city centre. How would I get from Bamburi to the city centre? Taxi costs? Matatu is cheap but is it safe at night?

Mtwapa is about 25 miles north from the city centre. How would I get from Mtwapa to Bamburi? Taxi costs? Matatu is cheap but is it safe at night?

Hotel Kahama is situated where in relation to Mombasa City Centre or Bamburi or Mtwapa? Their website gives no clue.

Big Tree, Cheers, Tembo are located where in relation to the above places?

I am confused about Casuarina. It is in Mtwapa? Or is there more than one Casuarina?

Are there internet cafés in Bamburi, in Mtwapa? I am clueless about IT stuff. If I take my laptop to Latvia or the Dominican Republic it just works, so I don't understand why I need a different modem in Kenya. But if I do then I think I may leave my laptop at home (one less thing to get stolen) but I will need to check my messages every day.

I think my routine would be spending the morning in the city (or lie in), hunt girls on the beach in the afternoon, if no luck try Big Tree, then Cheers. I would prefer not to go out in the later evening too often. I like to be tucked up in bed by 10. 00pm with my warm milk and a hot ass or two. I am an old man. My doctor told me to avoid alcohol and disco music but to get as much sex as possible to exercise my heart. (Kinky sex being particularly beneficial.)

Food and meals are the least of my problems. For two weeks I could live off bananas (well, almost).

I can get a cheap package holiday to Reef Hotel, Nyali Beach. Does anyone know if that hotel is "guest" friendly? I am bit worried they emphasis the "family and children" aspect.

If you go to post #88 in this Mombasa thread (01-22-08) you will find a good map of Bamburi attached there.

Basically the Bamburi area is between Tembo disco in the South and Mtwapa in the North.

A taxi from Mtwapa to Bamburi can be anything from 300 - 600 ksh depending on which part to go and the time of the day.

A matatu will only cost you maximum 30 ksh, a good alternative for the daytime.
There are many Internet cafes in Mtwapa for 1 ksh/min.

If you go to kahama and have a double room you can arrive with two girls at once or if you prefere enter more than one in the same day without charges the rooms are big and very clean the position is in Bamburi, when you arriveat the airport no more than 1500 shillings to the taxi. The position of the hotel is in the middle of the road betwen tembo and casaurina that is in Mtwapa, during the day Matatu is safe, cheap and fast. Price of double room is around 3900 shillings with two breakfast included.

Security problems of most hotels at the beach is that it is dangerous to walk at night from the hotel to the main road Mombasa-Mtwapa. At night you must take always a taxi.

Matatu is as safe as you walk around, so it is no use to take a taxi for security reasons. Taxi only necessary at night as explained above or when you are outside of the city centre at night and want to go back. Then take a taxi. For example, I'm outside of Mtwapa centre in a bar or at the beach of Mtwapa. At night always a taxi. Costs 150 KES. Short rides are 100. 150 KES. Matatu has a higher risk of a car accident. For short distances there are also boda-boda, bicycles whit a seat for a passenger at the back. Cost: 20 KES.

Matatus run day and night from Mtwapa. Bamburi. Mombasa.

Best internet cafe at Nakumatt shopping centre. The PCs there are quite old but you can take your own laptop, then good. Costs 2 KES per minute, when you pay 1000 KES in advance 1 KES per minute. Your credit is stated in a book and they discount the time you have consumed. In Mtwapa there are also 2 of three Internet Cafes but sometimes slow. In Mtwapa there are also more technical problems with electricity and the internet line.

Reef Hotel not GF. When you come from Mombasa on the right side just before Nakumatt there is the street that goes to Reef Hotel. At this junction is a taxi stand with a lot of taxis. Short rides to Reef hotel 100. 150 KES. Tembo Disco, Cheers, Big Tree, Nakumatt are all near to Kahama or Reef Hotel. Taxi ride 150 KES max. 200 KES. The discos are good from 11. 00 pm On and mostly on Friday/Suterday night.

For details information ask a old European resident drinking a beer at Cheers of Big tree. They are glad to inform you.

Beware that the scene at Bamburi could be dangerous, the girls are more hardened than Mtwapa. Some are in scams with the police. So never show sex/porn items to unknown girls as pornography is a crime in Kenya. Negotiate the price before otherwise you may get problems. Girls in Bamburi are more greedy than there in Mtwapa. With 2000 KES LT or 1000 ST you should do well. Otherwide at Bamburi/Tembo are some real stunners. Then add1000 KES. European residents or long time travellers to Kenya pay 1000 KES, when time are rough less. They know the girls and when a girls is in big need they go to them and are happy with 500 KES.

There is a web site: kahamahotel. Co. Ke. Very interesting, looks good. Sometimes the reality is another, the pictures look to good. Normally in Kenya at the Coast the hotels are run down at some extent. Since the KES has dropped the rates are even cheaper. The best thing to do is to use a bank card with VISA access and cash at the ATM. Check the cards with small fees. I pay 3 EUR for a withdrawel. Before it was a limit of 40000 KES now I have 70000 KES. The rate for the card is 1 EUR = 106 KES. You don't get this in a forex. As I stated before at night (from 7. 00 pm ) dangerous to walk to the main road.

For the girls Mtwapa is the better chasing ground since in Bamburi almost hardened *****s. In Mtwapa there is a big presence of foreign (esp. German) expatriate community, most retired on small pensions. They keep the prices down. But there are a lot of girls/women working/living in Mtwapa looking for a long term relationsship with a White (in Kenya named "Muzungu"). Of course there are a lot of working girls there but the mix is better then in Bamburi. If you want a steady girl friend for your stay Mtwapa is the better hunting ground. But you can take one from Mtwapa to the Kahama Hotel.

Anyway take time to look to all the places and to many girls. No hurry, there are too much girls for the small amount of Muzungu that are mongering.

Mombasa city is a dump day and night. Only entertainment is Bar Casablanca at night and Casino Florida. Casino Florida is not my cup of tea, expensive and aggressive girls.

Maybe the best is to take 3 nights in Mtwapa and 10 days at Kahama hotel or Bamburi Beach Resort. Inspect the places yourself and choose the best one of them. Anyways bargain the price down when you book for 10 days.

Thanks Barri. That's a big step forward. I don't know how I missed it. (I did say in my initial post that I ain't too bright!)

What is clear to me from this is that most of Bamburi Beach is developed. From other maps I got the impression of deserted (and thus potentially unsafe if alone) stretches between hotels. I now see this is not the case.

It's looking like the Kahama for me if I stay in Bamburi. Taurus1 tells me that the Reef Hotel Nyali is not girl friendly, so that cheap option is ruled out for me. He is also tempting me to consider Mtwapa instead.

When staying at a "middle price bracket" hotel like the Kahama, do you guys just march your girls in through the front door, or do you have an arrangement with security or other staff to enter by a side/back door? I am not worried about my being embarrassed (I am too old and thick-skinned for that) but I wonder if some of these girls off the beach look too scruffy to be seen in the lobby area and would offend the management?

Given that so many hotels are side-by-side, should I book a room before travelling online, or would I get a better deal by just turning up (it would be in the middle of the day) and taking pot luck? If the Kahama were full I could try the next hotel, view the room, confirm is girl friendly, etc, until I found a suitable one.

I have found I always pay top dollar when booking online whereas much better deals are available for the personal caller if they have vacancies. I don't know if this applies in Kenya as well or whether that would be too risky a strategy?

In Puerto Plata I know my way around, know how to stay safe, know what to pay for chicas and for everything else. In Mombasa I will be totally reliant on the good advice I am getting from ISG.

You have explained the position on taxis and matatus clearly. I expect to be using the matatus a lot. Among mongers in the DR I am famous (and sometimes ridiculed) for my enthusiasm for guaguas and publicos. I shall be interested to see if matatu drivers can equal the kamikaze spirit of the publico drivers.

I was not planning on a "steady". I have just come out of an attempt at a "relationship" in the DR and have promised myself, at least for the immediate future, to pay them to go away, but I keep all options open. Certainly I don't like "hardcore" putas which is why (and you will understand this analogy) I prefer to hunt in Puerto Plata rather than Sosúa. Better selection of semi-pros there.

So maybe I should look in Mtwapa rather than Bamburi Beach? And if hunting there, why not reside there to save time and money? I will have to think about that one.

Mtwapa looks like a big dusty town in the Far West, good to live only
in small centre where are the hotels (two stars and down), restaurants, bars.
Outside is a big slum. Sometimes there is a small urbanisation with
normal houses, but there you need a car of taxis to move to the centre.
During the day is nothing to do, maybe walk and stay at the beach.
The best is to have friends (Expats, female Kenyans). For a beginner
the combination of good hotel with pool (very important) and hunting in
Mtwapa is excellent. When you wish to come next time you can
organize yourself better.

Thanks for all the information guys. I am eager now to make the trip but it is only 50/50 that I will be able to do so. It depends upon there being a sufficient window of opportunity between my signing the house sale contract and actually vacating the house. I will be morally obligated to go straight to the Dominican Republic once out of the house as my friend has been patiently keeping a condo vacant for me in the DR and cannot be expected to wait still longer while I frolic in Africa. And I will also need a budget flight from London during that window. They are on offer now but tend to get snapped up fast.

When staying at a "middle price bracket" hotel like the Kahama, do you guys just march your girls in through the front door, or do you have an arrangement with security or other staff to enter by a side/back door? In addition there are 4 or 5 different local bank ATM's to choose from in the Nakumatt Nyali complex ( warning : they are likely to dock you for a fee , in addition to the "foreign ATM charge" by your own bank which you will find on your month-end statement ) .

You might not want to find out what all could happen to you in a matatu at night ( most likely : nothing ) but if you want to eliminate that risk , then take a cab after sunset .

I totally accept all you say about the DR. Rising crime fueled by drugs is a problem and I am not too crazy about the Dominican people and culture. Prices haven't altered too much in the 3-and-a-bit years I have been going there (8 months there spread over 8 trips lasting from 2 weeks to 11 weeks) so that is not an issue for me. Any price rises in that time have been countered by my getting more savvy and streetwise.

But I have my gringo friends and for girlfriends I turn to Haitians who, apart from an unpleasant hardcore clique in Sosúa who give all Haitians a bad rep, generally have a better attitude in bed and out of it. I generally like it there and at my age don't really want to start planning anew.

Yes, my prices are from mid 2007. For the CD/DVD and the clothes I payed
the higher range of expat prices. DVD prices are different, there are DVDs
that have 4 or 5 movies on one disc, so they are more expensive. In July
im again in Kenya, then I see the situation. Was informed that food prices

Walking from and to the hotel is the main danger. IMHO not worth to take the risk. Normally the robbers/muggers are two and wear machetes.
There have been robberies in the matatus but very very seldom. The route Mtwapa-Mombasa is the safest. Look also inside the matatu before you enter. I saw locals and it happened to me also one time that I did'nt enter the matatu because the people inside looked criminal. More dangerous are
the matatus going to inland suburbs like Kiembeni.
And all is relative, if you look at the post No. 365 of Lustyhombre on the
Barclays Bank Bamburi. There happended robberies too. They hided behind the
bushes and attacked the customer cashing money. Overall,
these are isolated cases that happen also in the safe countries of Europe.

semantic one. The prices I have stated are based on information from
several expats and also girls. It is a bon mot in Mombasa that the
tariff is "elfu moja shillingi" and this LT since is obvious you pick her

great you have highlighted that transportation costs in Mombasa can get astronomically high, especially when going to different places at night. Barhopping at Fields in Angeles is a little more comfortable, isn't it!? :)

I have rented a motorbike a couple of times and I can assure you that it is no big deal to drive around, particularly not when you are already used to the traffic in AC!

Another good option is to rent a car immediately on arrival! Then you are pretty independent and you can easily pick and transport one or two girls! :) Believe you me, at the end of the day you will save a lot of transportation money especially when you rent the car for 3 or even 7 days! I always rent when I am in Mombasa and would highly recommend this approach!

with all due respect, but I tend to disagree. I am driving regularly in Mombasa and never faced any problems! Sure, there is a theoretical chance to be stopped by a corrupt police officer, but I would not overestimate this risk.

However, I admit if somebody feels uncomfortable to drive a car he should prefer matatus or taxis!

I've never been hassled by traffic police and once even sweettalked my way out of a ticket going 90 in a 50km zone on the Makupa Causeway (careful: these days they have radar guns! And it's hard to argue the reliability of their equipment when a "90" figure flashes on the LCD).

Regarding costs: simply compare prices in Mombasa! Especially during low season they offer heavy discounts. If I remember correctly I have paid about 45 USD per day including insurance and with unlimited mileage for a small Nissan. It was definitely worth it, in terms of sightseeing and in terms of girls! :)

Thanks a lot, any info would be appreciated.Security is ok in general , but beware of pickpockets in town and be circumspect everywhere else ( i.e. leave your Rolex at home when you go to the beach ).

A copy of your passport is certainly good enough ( I have NEVER been stopped and asked for personal ID - once they see the Insurance sticker on the windscreen they wave me on ).

I have never had prob's with "Bamburi's Finest" , but I am aware of their bad reputation and I always make sure I stay away from compromising situations .

There is another one I haven't seen mentioned yet here, on the cheaper side but with a bar and restaurant attached. Its near Serena Hotel and its called Kendas. Not the Kendas in Mtwapa nor its sister hotel Kendas Village. They have a new branch near Shanzu on the road off the main Malindi Road. Someone should give it a try sometime. Accessible by two, three or four-wheeled taxi.

About nude photos of the girls you sleep with, I think they are worried about themselves being visible on the internet, it would be embarrassing to them if their extended family members saw them naked on the web. Also, they wouldn't want you to sell their pics for business, when you are not paying them anything for the photos. So its a dual-pronged reticence on their part.

Mtwapa is the cheaper alternative many many guys take and its full of nice girls and whites too.. maybe not so many right now as its the cold season. Matatus zoom along that road every 2 minutes giving you access to cheers and nakumatt for 40 cents US within 15 minutes. Pretty girls tend to come out when the sun is out too, they hate the rain and cool weather...they just stay at home when its cool and wet. So for me, Mtwapa is your option for a low-budget stay. Joy Guest House is well kitted out and only 800 KES per night. Kendas in Mtwapa is also not a bad option and is within walking distance of the pubs and night clubs. Staying in town centre CAN BE as cheap but many hotels are not girl friendly and its generally not a nice modern place. I have nothing against the town, the Mtwapa area, or anywhere, I am simply speaking the truth for the benefit of visitors to the area. Most areas are both SAFE and INEXPENSIVE so just enjoy your stay and dont worry too much about where to stay. If you get ripped off in one hotel you can easily move to another one the next day.

Yes Steve you are right, but neither is town centre so nice for a vacation. In recent posts I answered his question before he asked it, by mentioning Kahama Hotel and also the new Kendas near Serena Hotel. Cant think of another cheaper hotel near Cheers. But for 2 or 3 nights one could either stay at Sai Rock or Kahama. After all, 4000 KES is only 50 USD, its hardly expensive by western standards and I bet Sai Rock would accept 4000 a night for a standard double room with single occupancy, unless they are very fully booked. Its all about driving a hard bargain. If you have spent possibly 1000 USD to fly to Kenya, why cant you also spend $50 per night for a few nights in Mombasa? So his statement "Sai Rock is expensive" is the thing I am questioning. I work in a hotel here in the UK and our very cheapest room for single occupancy is $100 for bed and breakfast. So to go to the most expensive part of the touristy Mombasa coast and say $50 is expensive, is surely a bit inaccurate.

You are right about the rates at sabasaba. yes, the rates are very low compared to casablanca, but the kind of services you get there are equally lousy. When you pay 1000ksh at casablanca, you are not spoiling the market for local men. I am a local man, but I never go to sabasaba. Not for sex. I can sit there a have two beers to warm up as I watch the scene, but when I need to pick a girl, I always go to casablanca. I would rather pay 1000 instead of 200 because I want to sleep with a clean girl. Why pay 200 shilings then spend the next few hours picking lice from your hair and clothes?

It's not hard to get it cheaper than what you and I are used to paying, if all you care about is how little you pay, as seems to be the sole focus of Williboy's forays into this market.

My pool boy pays max 150 but I am sure you wouldn't want to touch the girls in that price range with a 10 ft pole.

If, on the other hand, you require good looks, a pleasant personality, impeccable hygiene, a model-like body and a pornstar booty (like I do), then you would be right in concluding that you get extraordinary value for your 2 or 2.5 k in Kenya.

After all, it's all about how good I feel afterwards and what memories I take away from the encounter. Whatever money I pay is soon forgotten anyhow.

From many years of visiting kenya I can say that most of the girls are looking for money. This is not mean that a tourist can't get it or free.

I respect the views of both WB and LH but have no reason to doubt that I have found a woman without the below qualities you have both stated and not all african women are like that. Everyone has to understand they also need money to survive and thus to term them all as gold diggers would be inappropriate. We have some members who have literally thrown women from 4th floors of apartments and get away from all this by bribing the authorithies so who would be the Ho's as stated. I request that these women have feelings and so do you and respect at times would be and can go a long way to find a woman who is not a gold digger. The women only look for short relationship to avoid complications and heartaches thus the money would be a only thing which will enable us guys to get them.
