Last night, I took a cab and told the driver to bring me all the bbs he can find in pudong. So he took me out for a 200rmb ride on the cab.

In total, he took me to about 2 dozen bbs which all are located at the are of Pu Dong Da dao and jing qiao xu. I was told by him there are alot alot more here in pudong then in puxi and the price is much lower here in pudong. I was told by him about a 100 to 150. thats the price he paid.

I never got to try any of the bbs as i was only out searching.

Do not have their exact address for all but will supply the information as soon as possible. (Would be driving around the areas to get their address)

I do have one address and it is ying zhen lu at jing qiao xu. there are 3 to 5 bbs in this stretch of road and another 3 if you go futher down the road.

Gals there are of average only to see one 7.5 gal while prowling.

First of all... Obviously the cab driver had never been to the Village.... there are at least 30+ BBS there. Neither does he know there is a place in the middle of the Puxi (pussy...:) ) called Chang de lu ... there are 20+ BBS there. (See my posting on Chang De Lu)

Secondly.... The cab driver does not knows the Martket price for BBS. 100 to 150 is the price for FS. HJ can be only 30 to 50. And all this is in Puxi.

Thirdly... Although there are a lot of BBS in Pudong, you will find them spread out. Whilst in Puxi they and concentrated in certain areas. Example; The Village, Chang De Lu.

Why go all the way to Pudong when good BBSs are just a stone throw away?

Last night we did our regular weekly BBS run down ChangDe Lu, there was light rain and therefore we ruled out going to explore new areas on foot.

Last Night Chang De Lu was quiet even at 10pm - 12am (Which is the peak hours) Business was slow and BBS girls was plentyful. We had also seen quite a number of new faces in some of the regular BBS.

Public thanks to Asian Gambler, Blaclisted and Pluto NYC who were so kind to share a mongering night (FOR FREE).
As AG reported, rain didn't allow us to explore new venues.

So we headed to ChangDe Lu BBS strip.
Quite amazing experience, as I never saw such a concentration of BBS. It is out of doubt, that in case you go there you can always find a girl of your liking, in one of the many establishments.
I have to admit that in most of places look of girls was above average. Some of them offer HJ, some other HJ+BBBJ, some other HJ+BBBJ+FS.

AG, I totally agree Pudong is not very well covered and never has been, not since I've been a member anyway.
I would love to update you guys but I moved to BJ 2 years ago and if I start giving directions they could be out of date which would not be very helpful. I will mention 2 shops:
1) Pudong Da Dao up past Novotel on the right, actually about 15 mins walk past the hotel until the next set of lights, there used to be 3 in a row, 2nd 2 providing FS 200rmb
2) Opposite side to the Novotel in a side street (Not on the main road) also FS 250rmb.

I would love to provide more but afraid it will be dated.
I have to say AG, the more I read your reports the more it makes me want to move back to SH, infact I think I will !! Great work.

I came over to shanghai 3 years ago to survey the place (mostly Pudong) and i must say, when i came back here on Feb this year, the difference of pudong is like an island having a face lift hahaha....

If anyone who has a car to drive around pudong, Lots of bbs could be found as long as you go by a few rules.

1 look for small alleys to drive in.
2 Look for buildings which are no more then 3 storeys high
3 look for a blue and red spinning sign (Dont really know what it should be called)
4 If anyone could not find any bbs, just go to a 4 to 5 star hotel and look around. There should be at least 2 to 3 around.

The above is just my point of view.

Main Changes are due to:

Isn't it normal for girls to "capture" you by saying that she is pregnant?

Firstly: To confirm pregnancy all you need is 2 weeks after the intercouse.
Second: She is unlikely to get pregnant if you had sex 1 -2 day before Menses.
Thirdly: The low possiblities of getting her pregnant if you have sex within 2 -3 days after her period.

To test whether she is really pregnant or not, you don't have to go to Hospital or clinics, go to the nearest drug store and buy a pregnancy test kit. Make sure you make her test it in front of you.

There is only one way to test whether the kid is your or not. That is to do a DNA test. Where the doctor to take the DNA of the baby inside her and match it with yours. This is a extremely dangerous procedure especially when the baby is still between 0 - 5 months of Pregnancy. I am not sure whether the hospital in China has the technology to do such test.

3000 is not unreasonable but high - the price will vary by the hospital. United Family in Beijing (a westernized hospital) wants 10,000 but a friend of mine, a local girl, found one at a local hospital for around 1000. (not my child, but when she was pregnant she came to me for advice). D & C abortions, done promptly (within 6 weeks) shouldn't be expensive for a Chinese.

Chinese labor law requires foreign companies to give a woman who gets an abortion some paid time off, I think at least 2 weeks. I guess chinese companies must be the same. Maybe some businesses like massage parlors are exempt or just operating illegally anyway (with guanxi on their side) so they don't care.

While it totally depends on the club, I think if you are in a nice polo shirt and dress pants you can get in anywhere. Generally you don't need business attire in the clubs, and in the clubs catering to the younger set, you can probably do jeans and t-shirts no problem. my observation is that there is little if any sex education conducted in the schools. i've asked a professor from the local university about this and he simply offered that sex education including std education is in the high school curriculum, but it is common that teachers are simply too embarassed to deliver the classes.

One of my business is health drug business and therefore I get to know of such test drug as well. However you may consider lucky but to some unlucky because testing a new drug there are much risk. You do not know what kind of side effects it has on you. Fortunately, we are the second level testers. The first level test is done by a group of "drug testers" where the side effects risks are the highest. Once it gets to second level tests, we know that the drug is not likely to be life threathening. and thus it is called a public drug test release. That when distributors like me and registered testers get to test it out.

The unlucky part is that we still do not know whether that the drug is totally cleared off the side effects.

Regardless; it is always safer to stay away from barebacks unless it is really necessary.

I verify this is true. I had done 2 freebies from Fudan U, and they all told me that they had attended this class. They also told me that this class is a spin off from a similar class started in Beijing National University one year ago and has met with popular demands, thus they extend it to Shanghai.

The answer is yes. JW is GF friendly but you will require to register your "Guest" at the security counter if you bring her back after 12am.

1500RMB is more than enough to cover the night if you do not get into scams. RTFF on scams.

You raise a good point, few places offer consistant service levels. Difference it that most of the menus are in 3 languages; Korean, Chinese and English. Definately more commercialized than CYLZ Massage. As there were 3 of us, and our first time there, we spent about 10 mins discussing about what package to take. The receiptionist whom I spoke to in Mandarin could not help to explain what's included in the packages but just only recommend that we do the Supreme Exclusive Package.

That was the first part of the pain, trying to decide which package to take. The bigger part of the pain was: There were 3 of us, when we told that all 3 will do the Supreme Exclusive Package, the receiptionist said that all the girls are busy and we got to wait 45mins!

At those price; Whether it was a Ripped off or not will depends on whether you are Asian looking or you look completely a westerner.

100 for a HJ is a ripped off for an Asian looking guy who speaks little or no Chinese. We took Albert Punter out on Monday evening and I negotiated for him a BJ and HJ for 100. First; Doesn't it occurs to us that our friend here is young and not very experience. Furthermore judging from his previous reports he is quite new to Shanghai scene.

Second; I think good sound advice is priceless but have to be delivered as an advice, when a person is drowning, standing there scolding him that he shouldn't had gone into the water in the first place does not helps, it will cause reverse effect. Why not turn our advice to a tone where we are throwing a float to him.

Thirdly; We cannot assumed that everyone on this board is very experience and know where to get, how to get; Franky I don't even know where can I purchase an abortion pills in Shanghai! Even though I own and operate a medical supply company in Shanghai!

China’s first brothels were likely established in the Spring-and-Autumn period (770 B.C. to 476 B.C.) by the famous statesman and philosopher Guan Zhong (? to 645 B.C.), who used them as a means of increasing the state’s income. It is clear that the institution of government-run prostitution reached its peak in the Tang (A.D. 618 to 905) and Sung (A.D. 960 to 1279) Dynasties. In ancient China, where most women had no opportunity to acquire an education, and formal contact between men and women was frowned upon, it was the role of the courtesan to entertain a man and be his friend. Every prominent official, writer, artist, or merchant customarily left his wife at home when he traveled; instead he was accompanied by women skilled in making men feel comfortable. Courtesans with literary, musical, or dancing ability were especially desirable companions, and many became famous historical figures. However, the prostitutes working in privately owned brothels mainly provided sexual services. (See also the profile of a female prostitute in Section 14E for data on prostitution in the 1992 nationwide survey.)

From the Sung to the Ming Dynasties, government-run and privately owned prostitution existed side by side in China. Early in the Ging Dynasty, from A.D. 1651 to 1673, the Manchu Emperors Shun-chih and Kang-hsi gradually abolished both local and imperial governmental involvement in operating prostitution. Thus, for most of the Ching Dynasty, prostitution in China was a private enterprise. For most of the Republican period in mainland China (1912 to 1949), some prostitutes were registered while others plied their trade illegally.

When the Chinese Communists took power, one of the first social changes they introduced was the abolition of prostitution. Only one month after the Communist army took control of Beijing (Peking) on February 3, 1949, the new municipal government announced a policy of limiting and controlling the brothels. Less that eight weeks after the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1,1949, more than 2,000 Beijing policemen raided and closed all 224 of the city’s brothels, arresting 1,286 prostitutes and 424 owners, procurers, and pimps. Other cities soon followed suit. In Shanghai, China’s most populous city, there were 5,333 arrests of prostitutes between 1950 and 1955.

In October 1957, in a new attempt to maintain order, the 81st Session of the Standing Committee of the First National People’s Congress adopted a new law entitled Rules on the Control of and Punishment Concerning Public Security of the People’s Republic of China. The legislation announced the policy on banning prostitution. In 1979, at its Second Session, the Fifth National People’s Congress adopted the first criminal law in the PRC, The Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China, which took effect January 1, 1980. Under this Law, the punishment for coercing prostitution was more severe: “Article 140: Whoever forces a female to engage in prostitution shall be sentenced to a fixed term of imprisonment of 3 to 10 years.”

The severe repression of prostitution did not prevent its accelerated revival in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The first official report of the recurrence and development of prostitution in mainland China appeared in March 1983. It reported that

According to the incomplete statistics from the three largest cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and four provinces, Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang and Liaoning, from January, 1982 to November, 1982, more than 11,500 persons were discovered to be involved in prostitution. More than 1,200 persons were owners and pimps of underground brothels; more than 4,200 women were prostitutes; and 1,800 persons, including 223 visitors from foreign countries, Hong Kong and Macao, were customers of prostitutes. Fifteen hundred people were fined, 790 were detained, 691 were arrested, and 662 were sent to labor camps. More than 900 underground brothels were banned and closed.
The growth of prostitution in Guangzhou (Canton) alone was amazing. In 1979, only 49 pimps, prostitutes, and customers were caught. In 1985, this number had increased to approximately 2,000. In one month of 1987, 11,946 people were arrested for involvement in prostitution, and in both the preceding and following months the figures rose to more than 13,000.

Prostitutes and their customers appeared everywhere, in hotels, inns, hair salons, single-family homes, apartments, dormitories, underground brothels, and taxis, in every city and every province. Between January 1986 and July 1987, eighteen prison camps for prostitutes were opened, and by December the number of camps had more than tripled to sixty-two.

Statistics collected in 1986 in the city of Guangzhou (Canton), in Guangdong province, supply some information about the men who patronize prostitutes. In 1986, of the 1,580 customers who were caught, 41 percent were from the city, 34.5 percent from other parts of the province, 15.3 percent from other provinces, 6.1 percent from Hong Kong and Macao, and 3.7 percent from other countries. Fully two thirds of the customers were Communist party members and county officials.

There is no doubt that economic motives fuel the current rapid growth of prostitution in mainland China. The possibility of earning as much as 10,000 Yuan new income in only two or three months versus the average Chinese income of only about 100 Yuan per month is a powerful incentive.

Since the late 1980s, even harsher measures were taken in the effort to curtail prostitution, including arrests of foreign citizens. In June 1988, in the Shenzhen Economic Zone, which abuts Hong Kong, there was a mass arrest of 122 prostitutes and 100 customers. In the small town of Deqing, about a hundred miles west of Canton, a man accused of being a pimp was executed.

The opposition to prostitution also has an ideological basis. In the lexicon of China’s Communist leadership, “prostitution” is a very bad word. Deng Xiaoping, the top leader in China, is particularly strong in his opposition to prostitution and advocates severe penalties because he believes it tarnishes his country’s reputation. According to a formal report, more than 200,000 prostitutes and customers were caught in 1991 alone, and more than 30,000 prostitutes were sent to forced labor camps, 80 percent of them street walkers.

Some of those arrested in the antiprostitution movement received sentences as severe as the death penalty. In Wenzhou city, Zhenjiang province, a woman and a man were sentenced to death because they had owned several underground brothels, employing fourteen prostitutes. In Beijing a 55-year-old man was given a death sentence because in 1988 he had allowed prostitutes to use the offices in a hospital about twenty times.

However; as the internet is so open, I should like to tell everyone on the board; the main reason why I had became diplomatic in most of my answers is because; I had posted something on the board last year and somehow it had offended someone; Not long after that, I got a big legal letter from some company challenging me to a legal suit base on the fact that I was posting on the board and impersonating some big guy from some big company. I can't discuss details about this but obviously, some fellow member whom I had met betrayed me as we might had exchanged our real identity during our meetings as a join mongering nights out. That is also one of the reasons why "The Gang" had strict rules not to except any new comers to our group.

Jackson knew about these as I had inform him on this matter.

If sharing information on the board would cause such pains, obviously there will be a lot more members who rather be taking and asking for information instead of posting new ones.

I read these threads because I do visit these areas, but if somebody contributing say in the Europe forums suddenly has a trip to Shanghai - as an example - do they really have the time to read the hundred of posts to try and get all the info they need, probably not.

IMHO this is what I believe Jackson started the Reports of distinction for, which to date for China has only 22 entries. Even if utilised better, in a country as big as China it would also potentially take time to read to weed out those reports not commenting on the area being visited.

Hi Guys,

Just got back, and I mean just got back, from the 2nd Floor Sauna at the Shanghai Hotel.

Jackson is NOT making money out of our efforts, he is asking for contribution not to make money! The contribution is for covering the cost of operating the Servers and maintaining the Internet connections!

As contributor in posting reports, we hope to share information. We do it at our own goodwill and not intend to gain anything from it.

I don't mind sharing information and contributing, but a lot of members cannot tolerate, people who just come and take without giving, or people who use our free information as a business. When I was a regular member, I really wanted Jackson not to tighten up the Senior Member requirements, because I wanted to get to that level as quickly as possible. Now that I'm a Senior Member, I want him to tighten things up so that it is easier to separate the wheat from the chaff.

I do agree that it is not easy to sift through the material here. I think the reports of distinction forum does help, but even it is getting entries that aren't themselves reports of distinction.

It would be great of those who have posted discussion in that forum could delete those posts, and just leave references to quality reports of distinction. It would help the newbies. Also, if we could keep the references to reports that truly do provide the best of the best of the forum, it will help the newbies. Since there is no moderation on that forum, we really do need to just be careful of what we post.

I recommend that all discussion about entries in the Reports of Distinction forum be done in the General Interest forum, not in the Distinction forum.

We could further set a standard that, say, three Senior Members agree by PM that a report go into Reports of Distinction, and that the poster in the forum 1) be a Senior Member, and 2) identify the two concuring Senior Members.

That way we could reduce the chaff in that forum. To Taipei's concern, we could request that the subject always indicate the area of reference, to make it easier to find relevant reports.

I think it would be of huge benefit if we had a Frequently Asked Questions document. My report #4772 was intended to fill that need, but it isn't apparent to the newbie that they should go to that report before asking questions. And certainly that is not the only report worth reading. We don't really have a mechanism to create a FAQ and keep it in a prominent place. We could put one for each area in the Reports of Distinction. The problem is that it is difficult to keep a FAQ up to date, because eventually we lose the ability to edit the post. You have to create a new post, which means also updating the reference to it in the Reports of Distinction, which means eventually the Reports of Distinction keeps growing. Ah well, that is a puzzle for Jackson to work out.

With all that said, I still think new users should read first before posting vacuous questions. Perhaps the initial membership level should be read only, and only after you have read a certain number of posts in a forum will you be granted write access. Jackson, how about that idea?

The instant posting is the main issue. All other things can be hat for the appropriate contribution as well.

I would suggest to have a system where members can vote for reports and a filtering system by votes. That could possibly extract essential information. The number of posts is far not the right criteria for quality posts. Just take a look at the Thai forum. There you will find the most extreme proofs. Its just possible thet those members who have not much to contribute but an incountable mumber of posts could scam up the voting system. (I am not sure if the forum setup supports voting and can do a one vote per member only)

I think JM, you brought up a good point on realiablity of the information posted on the board. As Senior Members, we would expect that whatever he had posted had been a actual experience and not some BS or fantasy which he had dreamt of.

As we had seen here, there are Senior members who do not even read the board for information and start treating the board like a helpdesk service.

ok back to mongering information:

i was walking back home on chang de lu when i came across a local sauna opposite one park avenue. bai yun xian

this one is just before the gas station if you are coming from beijing road direction. it is supposed to be a sauna in a local motel. as it was about 1:30am that i went into, i did not get to try out the services. but the manager who spoke only in mandarin explain to me these:

basic sauna charge: 150/rmb
foot massage: 40rmb /45 mins
body massage: 100rmb/45 mins
extras: 300rmb/45mins

The problem that I see is that it is difficult to find capable persons to classify all reports in hours and hours without getting paid. I don't want to let the posters self classify it. Then you get a subjective range of classifications that might not be of much help. To my experience, everything that is not paid for cannot expected to be reliable on the long run.

I have been reading the thread (I read every post) and I felt we are spending to much time and energy on discussing things that are not the prime purpose
of the thread.

I agree with the idea about apointing AG the "editor" of the Shanghai thread, he is the one who has the most knowlegde, and could sort out all kinds of crap, that is if he is willing to take on the job. I would buy him a beer or two, that is for sure.

A month ago; following an old report below by Tony Soprano, I decided to head there with a couple of friends from Europe for an evening night out.

On arrival the waitress lead us into a so called medium size room. Speaking in English; a Manageress explained to us the fees for the various size rooms and the tips for the girls etc. She than called in lineups of girls; from the line ups we can tell that the evening is going to cost us a luxury. All the girls are average of 7 to 9/10.

We had 7 girls to 4 guys in the room. I must say the Manageress look pretty good and so we rag her to play with us. Fortunately it was a “slow” night on Monday we had the best of all girls (as the Manageress told us). It was a legit KTV in which the girls do not strip any parts of their clothes but just keeps on playing dice, jokes and the normal stuff.

Manageress name is Julia from Da Lian, told me that all of the girls are from North East China, Da Lian, Sheng Yang or Haer Bin. As the night proceeded I got to know the Lady boss of the KTV who is a Taiwanese.

Closing time; all of us decided to bring back a girl each and I started negotiating the price. The only problem with the KTV is that they charge a Bar Price of 600 if you are bringing the girls out and the girls’ fee is 1500 making the total of 2100 which is totally ridiculous.

Fortunately having been able to speak Taiwanese to the boss, I got a discount of 300 on the bar price and negotiated with the girls for a 1000 LT. Did this openly with the girls and I told them if it is ok, we will bring 4 girls but if anyone is not ok with this price, we’ll bring none. Final price 1300 LT (including Bar Price)

Price for the rooms:

Small Room (Accommodates up to 8 persons): 800
Medium size Room (Accommodates up to 15 persons): 1200
Large Room (Accommodates up to 20 persons): 2000

Tips for Girls (If you don’t take out): 400
Tips of Manageress: It up to you but normally the same as the Girls.
Tips of Waitress: 200
Bottle of Chivas (12 years): 600
Green Tea (Don’t ever order these!): 100/bottle
Take out: Mentioned above. Normal price 2100; 1300 LT (You have to negotiate dam hard!)

It will be difficult to do that. A simple thing like asking posters to RTFF met great resistance. Or even asking poster not to post comments on Photo Gallery (Dispite Jackson warning) met non-compliance. How can we expect member to be discipline in classifying their post themselves?

friend of mine did a gurl in one of these bars towards the yan an lu end....right in the goddam booth. total cost:
20rmb/song for the "lap dance" fee, lady drink, and 100rmb tip. I won't give the name of the bar since I don't want them to get busted. If you want to look for it, there's a lot of gurlz in the front telling you how handsome you are.

This is the second time I picked up a cheap LT from Shui Jing Gong KTV. It is 2am closing time and I was walking home on Chang De Lu after a brief visit, with Blacklisted, to our favorite BBS.

Noticed the girls were walking out of the back entrance of the KTV; I walked into the convinent store only to find a few more of the KTV girls buying canned coffee. Wondering why they hang around and not heading back, I work up a conversation with one of the girl. Found out that many of them are staying in rural areas of Shanghai and thus waiting for “opportunities”. Offered her a bed and some money, managed to get her to my home which is one block away.

Just finish round one with her, and she is washing up in my bath room now. Good buy! Only 300 for LT.

So; conclusion, we should hang around KTV area around closing time, if you want discounted pussies.

I had lived in Philippines before and I found that Filipinas the most enterprising when come to meat trade. They are passionate, and yet aggressive. I am not saying that the Chinese are no passionate but frankly they are still a long way to go when come to service industry. However there are some Chinese gems of the trade that are also along Tong Ren Lu (SWs) whom will deliver good and passionate services.

Undercutting is a Filipinas mother nature. I recall driving Quezon Avenue in Manila and every single try to undercut the girl up the road. So in China, they have to do the same as well as they know the fact that they will not be here very long. They know that a bird in the hand is worth more than 2 in the brush.

Tong ren Lu is a short street; there are less than 20 bars on Yanan Lu / Nanjing Lu side. So it will be easy to find.

Once a month they have a special party called 'Bananas' where it's 100 kuai all you can drink. Usually packed with a youngish crowd. Lots of westerners. Music is VERY loud but is usually fun place.

There is this one super club on Shanxi Lu and Jianguo Lu that is supposed to have the most amazing stunners. This is word from a friend's sister who is a KTV hostess herself. It's called Club 168 or something. Anyways, it's pretty fancy pants looking from the outside with giant doors, can't miss it. It also happens to be in my neighborhood so I always see a van bring in the super hotties to enter from the back at night. Ever been? Maybe I'll join you one K-night to that other place.I think you are referring to Club 151. I have been there once and did not go back there again. The place is posh and upclass inside. The girls are quite attractive but the fun factor is just not there compared to some other joints I know. I actually saw a number of shanghainese hostesses there which is quite unsual for a KTV (I do not like shanghainese hostesses anyway). Sure, the girls will play dice and drink with you but that is pretty much it. Tips for hostesses are at 300 and drinks are not cheap. It is a good place if you are entertaining customers but not when you want to go there for fun.

For KTV: KTV on 2nd floor of Hengshan Hotel (on Hengshan Road) is very wild and fun.
For BBS: Tons on Jianguo Road. Just ask cab driver to keep driving eastbound down that road till you see them. At least 20+ BBS line both sides of the street.

For Sauna: Go to Shijiabao on Yanping road near Wuding road.

Bars: A bunch of them on Hengshan Road. Try Bourbon Street, Narcicus, or Zapatas. Walk around there and explore. Or you can hit Maoming Road near Fuxing road. You can go a little futher out to Tongren road.

Why will we need to write reports on the forum when no-one want to read? When some want something for free, they better read. Nobody owe anyone anything; so don't treat us who shared information as if we owe anyone an answer. What is it so difficult to spend 10 mins to read Report# 4772? When one will spend a whole night enjoying the fruit of mongering?

Perhaps you are right, I am over sensitive about this matters. But I still hate spending time and efforts to find out places and writting reports to share information when people just treat me like a Busybody who has nothing better to do than to spend the time answering PMs or Stupid questions on the board!

As a point to consider, you have posted a lot of reports covering a great deal of the Shanghai scene, for which you are commended on regularly, but they are taken from the view of a mandarin speaking, chinese looking ABC, those reports may conflict with those made by regular members who do not possess your attributes and may actually be more realistic for a non mandarin speaking westerner.

I am not trying to criticise, and have no intention of being personal or trying to start a shitfest or anything similar, just trying to point out that posters from other areas would not know anyone, and probably does not have the time to read all of the reports required to find the key info they want.

IMHO opinion, i understand why Jackson did it, it gives him a chance to weed out silly posts from those just joining, but once a member has shown they are contributing to the board, then they sdhould get instant post rights, titles are really for the vain. If you look at some of the threads in the Thai forum, then all to often it is the so called senior members flaming away at each other, something fortunately thats does not seem to happen in this forum.

Following my report on Cheap pussies at Shui Jing Gong - 水晶宫 KTV. I received a couple of PMs everyday on this topic. As such I am giving some answers on this:

The girls are hanging around outside the KTV at the corner of Chang Shou Lu and Chang De Lu. They are waiting for pickups and I noticed there are some man who wandering around whom will approach them and speak to them. 1 or 2 of them to hopped on to a taxi and go off with the man.

The first time that I picked up sometimes back; I was walking on the street when I was approached directly by one of the girls for a lighter. The second time I was in the convinent store on the same building when one of the girls worked up a conversation with me.

The girls are off work and therefore have nothing to do with the KTV. They are just trying to make a few more bucks and perhaps having a bed to rest till morning before they can hopped onto the bus (cheap public transport) back home, instead of spending on taxi or waiting for 4 hours for the first bus.

These girls are average look from 6 - 8/10 (As these are actuals K-girls from the KTV) Age from 18 (although I think some may be fake IDs and around 16 / 17) to around 23/24.

Both occassion I negotiated from 800 down to 300. As I may had answered to a few PMs from fellow newbies members, the negotiating part is tough when you do not know the Shanghai. you must have names and places references in order to convinence them that they have to price themselves at around 300 to 400 LT. It is certainly not a game for the newbies or else you may waste your time and yet get some insulting words back them. I always starts with conversation like; "Who is your manager? Xiao Li or Yan Yan", or "I think I seen you before in XXX KTV" or "You got to be from North East China, I can tell by the way you speak".

Armed with this; you will have better hit rates.

This is not a debate; but just to let you of my opinion;

Although I will start of as ABC and mandarin speaking, I would fill in the gaps for Non-Mandarin Speaking, non-Chinese looking mongers. Some of the example will be like the Chang De Lu map in which I had indicated BBS to avoid for Westerners. I prefer to monger with The Gang and in which consist of Westerners. And often experiment if having the White guys walking first into the joint before I jump in. We go though extra efforts to make sure these are covered. We don't have to do these do we? Why are we doing this; to make sure we see that place from a Newbie, non-Mandarin speaking, non-Chinese looking foreigner.

3) As I said... the Regular / Senior Member thing, it may be a stupid suggestion, but apparently, there are members who use this to filter on what they should read and who they trust. To me; I suggested this is because I had noticed that there are many Members who just post stupid questions on the board, a total waste of space.

Lastly: As posters we do not gain anything by sharing information. If this invite unnecessary criticism, and having to provide complete efforts, service at the cost of the poster before posting FREE information to the board, at no returns, it will certainly kills the encouragement of the poster.

Report of Distinction thread is there just to help newbies.
The reason itself this thread was created is to give a general orientation and avoid scrolling down 1000 of posts.

As a member of a forum, you should know all resources available in such a forum, including RoD, and use them.

After newbies make some exercise, as we all did in our early days, we will be more than happy to reply to approrpriate questions and to help as always done.

Fact is that reading posts like the one France Bear posted a little back, is quite disappointing and depressing.
As far as I am concerned, I don't reply to similar posts anymoe, not even with the magical RTFF formula.

I have been reading this board from the shadows for years. Now it is about time I contributed something back to the community here.

Many reading this forum will already have some sort of KTV experience in China. Shanghai, being one of the most expensive cities in china offers up a wide range of KTV experiences ranging from sleazy to super highclass with costs ranging from economical to bills making an investment banker blush. I will try to post some information from the most basic to Shanghai-specific here. So experienced readers please bear with me.

Before I start, I wish to put forth a disclaimer. I am a customer and I do not work in any of the establishments mentioned in the following post. There are some establishments that you, as a reader, may think I am biased to. That is natural as this is personal experience but I am in no way profitting, directly or indirectly, from any statements posted in this post. There KTVs here in Shanghai that is family style, catered to people who just wants to sing – you can distinguish this type of KTV with the “Liang Ban 量版”(bulk version) or “Lian Ge Chang 练歌场” (song practice area) wordings somewhere in their brandname or signboard. If you are looking for the ones with female hostesses the wordings “Shang Wu Hui Shuo 商务会所” (business club) or “Ye Zong Hui 夜总会” (nightclub) are dead giveaways.

In a typical setup, there will be at least one TV screen where the MTVs and lyrics are played. Nowadys most KTVs also sport another computer screen which songs are selected and entered. Some places are still using books, especially places with mostly japanese or korean songs. The room will also come with 2 microphones as well a sound system. There will be couches (of course), tables. Nicer places have an attached toilets. Even nicer places (very rare in Shanghai) have attached mahjong rooms, jacuzzis, bedrooms, pool tables, etc.

The waiters will usually run in and out of the room with towels, your unopened drinks, and whatever else you order. We call these waiters “Shao Ye 少爷”. 1 or 2 waitresses (we call “Xiao Mei小妹”) will stay inside your room to mix/pour your drinks, get yours song requests into the system, cleanup. Mommy/Moma-san will be in charge of the hostesses (we call “Xiao Jie小姐”). Mommy will come in and talk to you first, and start to bring in groups of girls and arrange them into a line-up for you to pick your companion for the time in the room. Do not feel pressured and always remember you are the customer. If you do not see anyone you like, just wave them out and the mommy will get the next group in.

So, these are the people you usually need to tip at the end of the night: 1 Shaoye (usually the one that hands you the bill at the end), all the Xiaomeis that stayed and worked in your room, your hostess(es) and the Mommy. Tip amounts vary by the joint. So read on.


WARNING!! - bad apples and tricks they play

Shanghai is relatively very safe compared to other parts of China. However, please exercise common sense and due caution anywhere you go. Sometimes you just have to assume there is no honor system here in China. The locals don’t believe in one and neither should you. Here are some of the common KTV scams – more tricks come up from time to time.

1. Super expensive snacks. You or your hostess pick these snacks and they get you in the bill at the end of the night. I’ve heard of a case where 5 orders of cheap snacks costed a poor soul 1000rmb. You can still get snacks, but ask and be sure how much they cost. Most places makes you pay cash at the point of ordering which I personally like.

2. plus plus plus. Expensive mixers, fruit plates. Ask ask ask. I can’t say more. If you know how much you will be drinking and it is substantial, ask the Mommy to comp it. They can usually do it. Ask for a price list for alcohol and for snacks, fruits or mixers so you will not be unpleasantly surprised at the end of the evening.

3. Ladies’ drinks. The hostesses will order some special drinks for themselves. Usually simply calling it “Yin Liao饮料” (drink), they can kill. Some people I know got conned more than 2800rmb for 12 small bottles of budweiser which costs less than 300rmb. The rest of the bill was for these “innocent” drinks. Ask how much they cost when the hostess orders them. The best practice is to ask the girls to drink from the drinks you ordered. If they do not agree, that’s a sign and send the girls out. They may tell you excuses that they do not like beer or whiskey or whatever you ordered. Gently remind them that they are working and if they cannot drink what you are drinking, ask them to leave. And DO NOT give them any tip for warming up the seat for short time.

4. If in an unfamiliar KTV, NEVER have any sexual activity (intercourse or otherwise) in the room. This is a very common con around china where halfway thru the act the doors will burst open and burly men will rob you blind while threatening to report you to the authorities or cause your bodily harm. If you are unfortunate enough to get into a situation like this, do not resist. Give them what they want, money or phone (ask for your SIM card back citing you do not want to lose the contacts). Ask for some money left for a cab ride. Walk out, remember the name and location of the joint and go straight to the nearest police station. Many do not do that for fear of legal repercussions or embarassement. You can actually recover most of your loss back. The police will go back to the joint with you and get the money and stuff back.

5. Bigger and more wellknown places are safer. NEVER follow any touts, pimps on the streets. They are usually getting a very high commission from the amount they are going to rip you off. Hit places you already know or introduced by reliable sources.


TYPES OF KTV IN SHANGHAI

*High Class KTVs
These are very big classy and posh KTVs. Usually having more than 50 rooms, they have awesome facilities as well as many girls working there. Pricing in this category can range from expensive to super-expensive. Bottle of chivas may cost beyond 1k rmb. Hostesses in these kind of joints are usually very attractive as only the best survive here. They are also better trained and are more cultured. Please know these KTVs are usually not as wild as someothers. Most of the hostesses will sit with you, play dice, drink. They will hug you but that is as far as it goes. If you try more, you will see the defence going up. Tips range from 300-500rmb per hostess. 300-500 for mommy, 100 for Shaoye and 200-300 for xiaomei. If you want to take the girl back it is usually 2000-3000 for LT, 1500-2000 for ST, all inclusive of the tip for the night. A lot depends on your ability to negotiate and if you clique with the gal. These places are perfect for entertaining customers. KTVs in this category includes JinBiHuiHuang 金碧辉煌, TianShangRenJian天上人间, JinSeDaDi金色大地, Rainbow Room BinFenSeCai缤纷色彩, Club 151 (this is private and you need a membership if I am not wrong).

*Mid-high priced KTVs
These places charge around 700-900 for a bottle of Chivas. Rooms are usually pleasant to posh although not super high class. Girls are still reasonably attractive but the ratio of pretty girls is not as high as Highclass KTVs. Number of girls working is also less. Hostess tips is usually 300. To take the girls back, LT cost 1200-1800, ST 800-1200, inclusive of the tip for the night. For entertaining these are still good and presentable. Places in this category includes JinSeYangGuang金色阳光, HuaDu华都, DiHao 地豪.

*Wilder KTVs
The wilder KTVs ranges in prices and class too. I list them as a category on their own since a lot of readers like this category. They play a lot of games in these places and all I can say is that you will be very surprised. I do not want to say more here but you get the idea. Hostesses are not model quality but sometimes you find gems. What they lack in model looks they make up with fun and playability. Tips vary from 300-500 for these places but they are usually more reasonable. Some are still very posh while others may be more lacking. Exercise caution if you want to bring customers there. Check out the place first and guage on your own. Some customers may freak out. Some may love it. Places like these include: Hengyu Poppoint (Hengshan Hotel level2), Golden Globe Star 金球之星 (Higher class, 3 locations: Huaihai road, Gubei road, Kaixuan road), 7m (Xujiahui). In these places a bottle of Chivas cost around 800-900.

*Mid-low priced KTVs
These places are still located in pretty central areas. These places charge around 500-700 for a bottle of Chivas. Some places rolled it into a package of around 800+ which includes all the mixers and fruits and stuff. Some of these places offer all you can drink beer package for 600 up to 4 people(guys) inclusive of room charge. The rooms are slightly more dated. The hostess selection is usually quite small and from other provinces. You can find a gem once in a while in these places. Some of the girls are very new to this and do not really know how to react. Hostess tip ranges from 200-300. LT is usually 1000. ST usually 800. Places in this category Sports Hotel Level 4 斯迫特酒店(Xujiahui), International Club (Hengshan Road). Not suitable to bring your customers.

*Low priced KTVs
These places are in the outlying areas of Shanghai. The cheapest ones are out in the Shanghai countryside (it is not as far out as you think). Bottle of Chivas (if they have it) is around 400-500. Vodka is around 250-300. Beer is 20-30rmb per small bottle/can. Room is usually free but with low minimum spending amount. Shaoye and Xiaomei’s tips is usually 100. Mommy is 200. Tips for Hostess is around 200. To take out the girl ST 400-600, LT 600-1000 (just a guage, it is totally up to your negotiation skills and the situation). I will leave you to seek these ones out. I only know a couple of these kinds of places. Definitely a no-no to bring your customers.

More Advice:
1. If you entertain a lot or really love the KTV scene, you should try getting memberships. They usually comes with free alcohol in the packages and over a long run is substantially cheaper. Just do the math.

2. Knowing Mandarin is very important in this scene. Most hostesses are very bad in English. I have been able to arrange for Japanese, Korean speaking hostesses for my customers though. English is harder.

3. Always ask for promotions. There might be deep discounts for certain kind of drinks. Always ask the manager/mommy if they can comp the fruits, snacks or mixers.

4. If you want to take a girl back for sure, make sure you tell that in advance to the mommy before you make the selection. Some hostess will lie and agree so they get to sit with you and make that tip. They will find an excuse later to avoid going back with you. If that happens, talk to the mommy and get a replacement and send this one out without giving her tip. And if you are going to take a girl back, do not pay in advance, and do not give the room sitting tip. It is inclusive and give it in the morning before she leaves.

This information is not much but I hope you enjoy and can benefit from these comments.

Well after reading the four pages of posts since Friday night, I can see we have a lot of active partners in crime which is a very good thing. To those many opinions I think the following :

1) AG as moderator- If he has time great. He seems to have the time and flair for the job.
2) Senior Members - Well I think that instead of screening senior members, why not just add another level to the tier? Monger Kings?
3) Opening our own place- looked into that recently and found that it can be quite dangerous. If we are in it for fun and we have a gentlemans club membership which is attached to a monthly fee then great because the BBS cost a lot of money to keep going. This depends on also how many girls we keep and other cost factors. I have already priced it out so let me know if interested.

If you take them out from the KTV, it will likely to cost you a bomb! That's because the KTV will have to make bar price from you as well. The reason why I managed to get away with low down prices is because I pick them up after their work. To them, it is rxtra money for the night. If they do not get pick up, they go home empty handed and besides, my play house is just walking distance from the pick up point.

In any case, you should work out privately for them to wait for you outside the KTV after work and that will save on the Bar price. When going to KTV, you already paid them for the rooms and liquor, no reason why you should pay them again for their pussies. Besides, the girls gets less than half of what you pay. The only sideback is the KTV have rules to the girls that they are not suppose to "Work Out" Privately with the guest and thus saving on the Bar price. But after work hours, the girls time is their private life isn't it?

I had found the girls in Shui Jing Gong, reasonably nice.

I was at Tong Ren Lu with Blacklisted, Player88 and J Getson last night; we noticed a numbers of new SWs in the block. Just a quick reminder; the going rates for the SWs there are 200 ST and 400 LT before 1am. 200 ST and 300 LT after 1am. Just make sure you don't let your little head below do the thinking!

Since you are a Senior Member and had contributed a fair amount; here is my advice:

I do not know how wild is Kota Disco but there are Disco in which you can pick up Freebies and freelancers. Babyface is one of them for example. However, the hit rates are much better if you speak Mandarin.

Judy's Disco Bar at Tong Ren Lu, is small but has its fair share of freebies and freelancers; the girls there are mostly English speaking. And if you like filipinas, go down the road hit Manhattan another well known Bars with fair amount of freelancers.

Unfortunately Freebies in Shanghai needs a little bit of time investments and skills to pick them up.

You can also try Rojam on Huai Hai Lu. Top floor of Hong Kong Plaza. Pretty nice disco. Local crowd. Lots of younger girls and freelancers. Monday & Wednesday night are ladies nights and they get in without the cover (i think about 30 kuai. Two dance rooms. one huge techo/electronica and one smaller hip hop room.

Real Love on Heng Shan Lu also tends to have freelancers cruising for business. More of a chinese crowd though. Can't remember the cover but I'm pretty sure it's minimal.
