i was shown into a clean and spacious dressing area with well-apportioned lockers. a valet of sorts introduced himself. i'm not accustomed to being undressed by a man, so it took a few moments to get settled. i would have preferred a female valet, but i guess not all men can control their urges or body functions. it makes sense when you think about it. he did seem a very pleasant young chap though. finished undressing me, he took away my north face hiking boots. they did, indeed, need a good clean.

After almost becoming a regular of the Shanghai Hotel's second floor, I read a report here that recommended an upscale sauna outlet at 839 Chang Shou Lu, 5th Floor (spelling is exactly like that). Tel no is 021-623 19 999

Upon arriving there by taxi (20 RMB from the Nanjing Lu area), and being dropped at no 825, it took some exploration to determine that number 839 is the building precisely at the corner of Chang Shou Lu and another big avenue (name unknown, just remember is on the side of No 825).

It is a nondescript building, and I noticed by pure chance a neon-standind ad in Chinese with the telephone number posted here.

Up I went and out of the elevator I stepped into what could be called a 5-star hotel lobby and reception, with immaculately dressed staff, and the customary Chinese welcome.

Upon being asked what I wanted, and being shown to a "menu" in both Chinese and English, I told the lady at the counter that I wished a "Special Massage", which she promptly understood.

I was led into a very nicely appointed dressing room, and then to a luxurious shower and pool area: lots of stainless steel, flat TV screens, good taste lighting and everything painstakingly clean.

After the customary shower and change into pajamas, I was led to the usual big, full of armchairs room for a 5' wait, and then led through a maze of corridors to a massage cubicle where an appropriately dressed lady was waiting for me. She was a 5. No lineup, but then it was 8pm (rush hour), I was not a regular, I don't speak Chinese, she was slim and had a nice rack, so in I went.

We went through the customary steps here: some cat licking, no AR, some body to body massage, NO red rope (not that I'm extremely fond of it) and then FS in different positions.

Total time spent with the lady was 45'. Then the usual shower, dressing, payng and leaving. Total damage was RMB 988 (I think it was mentioned elsewhere that early birds had a 20% discount?)

Executive Summary:

i) Outset: Far superior to Shanghai Hotel, where I'm a regular, or Skyline.

ii) Staff & Environment: Way less crowded than Shanghai Hotel, which at some times of the day seems like an underground station.

iii) Ladies: No lineup (1st time there). I guess equivalent in quality to the Shanghai Hotel, and superior to Skyline for my taste.

iv) One-to-one service: More rushed and less dedicated than at the Shanghai Hotel.

v) Price: RMB 988 vs RMB 750 at Shanghai Hotel.

vi) Woud come back? Yes if I knew that the 2nd floor of the Shanghai Hotel were packed. Otherwise I dn't think so.

Last time I was in Shanghai a few years ago, I had a girl from KTV hang around with me for about a week. SK.O'Malley's is a fantastic place to watch the WC matches. I was just there tonight to watch Spain beat Saudi Arabia. I think I might go back there to watch Korea beat Switzerland (I'm hoping..) There are lots of tourists over there, and everyone seems to speak English just fine. As for picking up some locals or other tourists, I think the place across the street called Zapatas might be a better place. It was like my old college days visiting that place. On the way back to my hotel (Regal), I dropped by Bourbon St. briefly and it too had good inventory of locals and prostitutes.

For now, my pick would be Zapatas if you want to meet other tourists looking to hook up. It's been awhile since I last posted - but to be honest, they werent exceptional enough to justify the valuable real estate.

Had a spare night recently and booked a room at the Wuzhong Lu Motel 169. Got the Business Room at 258rmb thinking that this would be a bit bigger, and perhaps nicer. Actually, it clean, but definitely a motel room.

There are pretty good updated maps available for sale in Shanghai. I could scan one and put it together in a pdf. But the problem is that it is in Chinese. I don't know of a good english map that covers the area outside the inner ring.
And of course the maps are generally helpful, for all areas except those where they are incorrect. The problem is if you know where they are incorrect, you possibly don't need a map.

Nothing ever beats the hardcopy map I use which is available in most books shops. "Shanghai Tourist Map" published by "Sinomaps Press" It has a red outter cover and sold for 10RMB.

They do not have an online version but this link brings you to their products which tell you what are the other cities maps available.

What I found most useful about this map is that it is bilingual, both English and Chinese on the same map. This way sometimes if you are not sure on whether I got to the right place you can try to match the Chinese characters to the road signs.of the road you are standing on.

I agree with AG 100%. Have been through similar cases where gals treat me like a fool and idiot and try to pull money. My lessons learnt would be: Be cautious when approaching gals with a 8+ look ( inlcuding the rack). These gals weight themselves too much. All the same to me :) meeting the gang one at a time or all at once or joining the gang. Like the old saying goes, don't bash me till you get to know me right. As for ripping someone off, going back on my calender of clients, I can't for the life of me think of who it might be. If a client complains, I take care of it. If they don't say anything to me then well nothing I can do. As you all know there can always be a difference between what a client and the girl say. I still run the old policy though that the customer is right. Also, I have never changed my prices so can't figure out how I have ripped anyone off. Most of my clients that want to support me with posts are roamers who don't feel like being flamed. So I tell them not to bother.

Back to fun, was out with a couple of friends last night and we decided to live out my dream night as posted a few days ago. Lets just say I love it when dreams come true.

I wanted to report back to all the members of the board on my trip to Shanghai. As many of you recall I was concerned about being an African-American and mongering in Shanghai. Specifically I was concerned about being rejected by the ladies. In short the warnings were all wrong. I was never rejected. I will go into detail.

Before that though I want to thank some members of the board who encouraged my trip and provided advice-especially Dragon-D and Virage.

In all I did alot less mongering than I thought because of a freebie I met through asianexpat. I had been communicating with this 22 year old student for a while. I arrived in Shanghai after a long flight from LA-a stop in Guam for refueling and a 3 hour layover in Manila. A warning-dont ever do it this way. Always buy a direct flight. It is simply too grueling. When I arrived in Shanghai the driver from the Shanghai Doshi hotel (http://www.wacts.com/Wingsacrosschina/china/shanghai/dongshi.html). The driver didnt speak a word of English. We communicated as best we could with my little translation book. Never did the young driver show me any disrespect of contempt. He drove us the 40 minutes to the hotel in a nice VW sedan.

The hotel was about 2 blocks from the Bund. It is a classic 2 star-clean but basic. Needless the say I checked out two days later. More on that later.

My freebie showed up around 3 hours later. Very cute girl. Her pictures didnt do her justice. She took us to a nice Italian restuarant. It was pouring rain but we found a way to have a great time. Over the next few days she showed me all around Shanghai and beyond. Needless to say on my 3rd day in Shanghai she showed up at my hotel late claiming she lost the key to her apt with her parents. Yeah right. Needless to say a very very good BBBJ. Almost too good. It seemed as though this girl was a pro or something. Couldnt hit it because she was on her period. Neverthelss she was showing me a great time and I wasnt going to complain. She was coming to the US in a few months and I saw the potential for future fun.

On my second night I decided to venture out. I, on the street, immediately noticed the staring alot of you have reported in the past. It was imtimidating. So intimidating at one point I put on my sunglasses to ignore it. However it wasnt an ominous staring-more of curiosity. As I discovered this I became more comfortable. But no one was ever mean, beligerant or assholes-well except once. I walked past some dumb ass construction workers and it was obvious they were saying something negative. But then again what can you expect from construction workers anywhere in the world! Just joking.

I decided to go to the Chang de Lu area. Now let me tell you all a word of advice. No Manadarin-no fun. I bought a little black book and taped inside of the pages words, phrases and maps I picked up from the forum. That way I could simply show the cab driver what I wanted. Made it easy. Dont go to Shanghai without doing this! For example I would print out the characters for BBS, COF, pictures etc. I had the driver drop me off at about 12:30 am in the Chang De Lu area. A warning-this area is DARK! I wasnt intimidated but it was so damn dark I began to wonder if I was in the right place. Then I saw it-the telltale pink light of a BBS. I looked inside and the lady just kept talking on the phone. She and the other girl were 3's anyway.

I kept walking and and didnt see anything for a while. Then I began to walk about 5 blocks in each direction. Then I began to see them-some with barber poles, some with pink lights. Some of them had just the characters for a BBS on them. If I didnt have my trusty black book I wouldnt have know what the characters met. Most of the BBS's just had this script on them-not the barber pole or the pink lights.

I did notice something. Their were LOTS of these foot massage shops. I saw men inside getting foot massages. This at 12 am I thought. Hmmm..I dont know what these places were but there were lots of them open. More than the BBS's actually.

It was hot and humid as hell even at 12 am. I was getting tired and sick of being sweaty so I was about to hail a cab. I saw a BBS on the corner with just the telltale script on the door. I decided to go in. I walked up a set of rickety wooded steps and there it was-the BBS paradise. Their were about six ladies. Now first impressions are everything. I didnt know what to expect as their eyes rose to mine. They all smiled. I was relieved. Two of them approached me as quick as lightning. They led me to the back. It was a large room with about six of those uncomfortable straw mat tables that were seperated by plastic partitions. It was obvious they were trying to rush me. I used my hands to let them know to slow things down. I showed them my little book-I wanted topless pics and a HJ. Now I have to tell you all-in all the years i have mongered I have never had FS with any provider. Simply too afraid of diseases. CBJ is a rarity but I will do it. Anyhow I got pics and a nice two girl HJ for 120 RMB. Not bad I thought. A few pics of the girls are attached. One of them was quite a funny girl.

It got so bad I started telling them as they approached to get the hell away from me. I mean it started at the beginning of the street and didnt stop until the end of the street. The touts were men and women. But though their English was limited they all understood "get the hell away from me" LOL.

One note about the hotel I stayed at initially. I checked out because my freebie kept suggesting the Peace Hotel. Great choice. http://www.shanghaipeacehotel.com/. Nice rooms, $80USD a night, room service and only $6 bucks on a bus back to Pudong airport.

I owe an apology to Dragon-D. I called you but never called back. Lets just say my freebie was a vacuum cleaner and I never got a chance to call back.

Will be going to Shanghai from the 7th til 15 th of this month for work and staying at the Hilton. JUst wondering if there are much BBS activities around that area. Also, have been trying to look for your posts on the Changde Lu BBS and which ones to avoid but can't seem to find it.

Hilton in Puxi is just a stone throw away from Chang De Lu. Since you know mandarin hop on a cab and tell the taxi to go to Chang De Lu 常徳路 It only 5 mins and 11RMB ride. Once you get there take out my map and start hunting.

While Dragon may very well be fine, and I do like that he has opened up a bit his mongering side, I have certainly avoided taking him up on his proposals because he makes them so damned visible.

This forum is certainly monitored by folks we would prefer to keep at bay.

I decided not to respond to Dragon's proposals when his party suggestion (posted a while back) seemed to indicate other illegal activity, like drugs. Perhaps I misread that, but if that is what he was suggesting, I wanted absolutely no part of it in a country like China.

I think it is best to be safe (in the many ways that implies) and discreet when playing in China.

As for "gang membership", I have no problem meeting Dragon in a public place, doing innocent things (drinking, eating, flirting with the chicks). But I'll wait for heavy vetting before the mongering starts.

Its very close to the Hilton and Shanghai Equatorial. Just tell your doorman or concierge you want to go to the Shanghai Hotel on Urumchi (Wulumqi) Road.

I checked this venue out late today. Here are my observations in comparison to the Shanghai Hotel.

1. It is not as centrally located as the Shanghai Hotel and it is a little difficult to find Its not on the main road but on a side street. Nevertheless, perserverence rewards the street wise traveler.

2. Mandarin is not essential here. They know what you are there for.

3. The facilities are worn down compared to the Shanghai Hotel. The shower and bathing area is not as well appointed. But if you need a swim go back to your hotel.

4. The staff is equally friendly and service oriented.

5. I skipped the scrub and went straight to the waiting area. Papasan speaks basic Engrish so don't be scared.

6. The line up at 5PM consisted of 6 girls and all of them were 7s 8s and 9s. They seemed a little hardcore compared to the selection at the Shanghai. I picked a tall randy looking Shanghai girl with a nice rack and a tatoo on her arm.

7. The room was not as well appointed as the Shanghai. But I have seen worse. In the corner was this contraption that looks like a gyno- examination chair.

8. The service was diverse as at the Shanghai. BBBJ, red rope, fire and ice, toe/pussy fuck (a first for me), several positions ending with wide open access on the chair. However the massage at the Shanghai Hotel seemed more professional. But that is really the girl.

9. Afterwards a few English phrases taught and well appreciated.

10. Overall the service was comparable. However, the Shanghai is definately more convenient.

Neither venue was crowded when I was in there so bear that in mind. My attitude about both could change dramatically if crowded. I dont think I would like either if crowded with japanese salarymen.

Damage: 690 RMB all in.

If you are comfortable in strange cities this place is easy enough to get to. If you don't want to be bothered go the easier route and head to the Shanghai Hotel.

Just came back home (San Francisco) from a weeklong trip from Shanghai and I wanted to write a quick shoutout to Dragon D. I was lost, didn't know the language, and certainly didn't know anything about the local talent other than what was posted on this forum. So I wrote Dragon D who hooked me up that very same night and the 3 nights after that. We went out for beers too one night and he's a standup guy with good connections. Generally agreed on your observation on Waves Saunas near Conach Hotel. Basically it is a much older Saunas that had been in Bsuiness for more than 10 years. I hadn't been back there for a while but I was told recently that they had openned a new branch somewhere more centrallized in town. Of course we are not talking about Yu Ping who is the same boss as waves.

May be I will make a trip to waves to find out where is this new branch....

well folks, i am back in the good old us of a and this is my report for monday night. i first started to check out the place that mianbao and blacklisted have posted about on that unknown street parallel to yu yuan lu. the street is xuan hua lu. it is directly across the pu dong bank on jiang su lu, north of yan an expressway.
i got there around 5pm and it was still pretty bright with alot of foot traffic. not wanting to receive that much attention i headed to the internet cafe on the street for an hour to wait for the sun to go down. when i exited around 6:15pm, all the bbs were either 1:closed 2: looked closed until you walked up to the door for a closer inspection and realized they were open. the place that mianbao suggested (he marked it as being across the street in close proximity to the japanese massage place. the only place remotely within close proximity was next to a kodak film developing center/photo studio) was completely closed with a lock around the door from the inside. feeling a bit let down i headed down the street to the other bbs to check them out. i found 3 that were open (rep001tered on both sides of the street) and they all had heavy curtains drawn and the lights were all turned off. the doors however were open and i was hurried in. unfortunately these places only offer "xiao bei" or hj. one of the mamasan was trying to make me stay for a hj but when i insisted i was in the mood for something more, the ***** actually cursed at me in chinese and told me to get out and make it quick. (possible raids that night or commom practice on this street?)
i then decided to cut through a small street up to yu yuan lu because i saw another bbs up there but when i approached, i noticed that it was also closed.
so i decided to try out another sauna service i read about on this board. the xian mi hu hotel on 500 wu zhong lu. arrived 8:00pm. i must say this place is far out from the city center but alot of bbs rep001tered along the way on wu zhong lu. the place is not as upscale as the shanghai hotel but the girls were alot friendlier. the bathing facilities are fairly complete but they only had a sauna and no steamroom. in the resting room (made to look like a japanese tea room), the mamasan ushered in 8 girls who in order bowed while giving me their number and where they were from. i picked the #602 from hu bei and she thanked me. however as the other girls were leaving, the mamasan said to me "you seem like you are new here, might i recommend 2 other ones with great service, 602 is new here." to this 602 confirmed she is new here and the mamasan continued "i want you to get great service so you will come back!" so she introduced me to 2 others. i forgot one but the one i picked was 502 from jiang xi. this girl has a cute face, petite body, no breasts unfortunately but a great great attitude. the rest of the service was typical sauna service with the red rope and her bag of goodies (unfortunately we got along so well that we never got a chance to check out her bag of goodies, we just had alot of fun together). at the end she wanted me to call her, because i made her felt really good and special. she also questioned if i was bothered by her profession etc etc. something about going out together and stuff. i have had successful experiences with sp in shenzhen for freebies later, so i will have to see how this one turns out when i go back to shanghai.

This was my second sauna experience since DTYJ about 4 months or so ago.

LOCATION:
First up, I had a little bit of trouble finding it, although I suspect the taxi driver knew what was going on. The number 500 on Wuzhong lu is well signed, although it looks like a petrol station. Have your driver go around the back on the right hand side to a kind of hotel. Their is a concierge and everything... I walked into the foyer and began fumbling around with brochures looking for any suspicious signs a sauna was even in this building. The doorman seemed to latch on pretty quick and said in English, "sauna?"

He then led me to the lifts and said level 4 in Chinese.

Up I went, and came out in the reasonably nice, gold-walled reception area. Acting as if I knew the drill and just nodding and smiling I was taken through to the change rooms.

No helpers with getting undressed which was a nice change. I never know if I need to tip or what, so end up feeling a little uncomfortable with the boys going out of their way to do everything for you.

Anyway, into the shower, and then the bacteria pool, which I must admit, looked a mite refreshing on such a hot Shanghai summer day.

I even went through the extensive skin exfoliation program, which is an additional 30 RMB. I don't mind it so much any more.

After more time lounging in the bacteria pool, sauna, and showers I headed to some small rooms, almost like KTV rooms, but with tatami mats and cushions on the floor. Obviously the Japanese are a large part of the clientele.

The manager popped his head around the door and asked if I would like the massage.

Darn right I would thanks mate!

A few minutes later I could hear the shuffling outside the door and murmers about the new Lao Wai intruder....

THE GIRLS

I gingerly sipped a beer, and in came the procession. About 10 lovlies alltogether, who proceeded to bow and report the city or province they came from. The reason why the prices were not consistent is because it depends on the customer. For “dead give-away” foreigners (not Chinese looking), you might be ripped off for a HJ @ 300 RMB. That’s the whole point of ISG, so that you can have a reference of the real price and not get ripped off.

Also other factor affecting the price will be;

1) The Time of the day you arrived at the shop,
2) The Language you speak
3) Your ability to hold yourself back and negotiate
4) The location of this shop you are at.

Visiting Bejing and Shanghai frequently – enjoy Shanghai more. Below are some of my many experiences.

KTV: Some business associates took me to Goldtime – over the top décor, as if decorated by Liberaci himself – about 100 rooms. Mamasan brought a couple of line ups and we selected. My apologies for a long-delayed report.

Before my visit (late May), I searched the forum and found little encouraging about the area near the Courtyard by Marriott -- so I've got a bit of good news for other business travellers who stay there.

It's not a great area (my previous visit, last year, I was at the Shanghai Hotel, which was MUCH better). But it isn't totally dead, either. I was only there three days, most of which time I was busy, so I didn't get terribly active, but I explored the area a bit. On the other side of the street from the hotel's front door, walking away from Dong Fang Street, there are two or three BBSs. I had a moderately poor experience at one of them, but I've never had any BBS luck, and this was no better and no worse than the others (the constant upsell is my objection to BBS girls). There's also a massage parlor that looks like a good possibility, though I didn't try it.

I was also approached by streetwalkers two or three times in front of the hotel and across the street -- but most of the time there weren't any.

On the next cross-street (can't remember the name) there are a few massage parlors, but they looked very legit.

So, in summary, not a great area, but not totally barren.

Same thing happened at my hotel (a 4 star). This had never happened before, maybe they are all tightening up. Both hotels said no guests after 11pm.
