Well another one learns the hard way. But at his age it is a good thing because like he said, it is a lesson that he won't forget. I have found though that many people like to try to get into trouble and try the experience personally just to say that I've been there done that. The whole point of the board is to take advice from people like AG, CL, Santa, heaven forbid me who have spent many hours and many thousands of RMB or other currency leanring the lessons. Some days I think this board is a mentors program where we teach lessons so that the new guys don't make the same mistakes that we have. Also, speaking Chinese doesn't mean your going to be safe on the streets of Shanghai or when your out mongering. It is an added advantage only to make your experience with non English speaking girls that more fun. Please note that a lot of the senior members don't speak a word of Chinese and yet they have had more fun than partying at the playboy mansion.

I have noticed that the big western hotels really aren't a serious part of the crack down. The cheap chinese motels in the 150-300 range are because the cops know how cheap we local mongers are after having to pay for the girl we sure as hell don't want to break the bank on a suite at the Hilton. Point of interest, I have had a couple of PMs and am planning on starting a time share condo for mongers in town who can't go home. Cheaper than finding hotels and being shut out at the door. Interested? PM me.
By the way, really want to create a local version of the playboy mansion, anybody else in?? :)

A few of the notorious shanghai gang hit Pudong last evening as I had an evening there a month or so ago which I posted about and was hoping for a repeat performance. Unfortunately, the little BBS girl I know was still in her 老家 (Home town) and would not return for 5 more days so I needed to find another to get some satisfaction.
Upon arrival at the intersection of Qixia and Laoshan Lu we proceeded to explore the seedy streets and I spotted a new one in the first pink lit little shop that took my fancy immediately.
I apologised to the rest of the gang and ducked in to do the deed. They wanted to see what had caught my eye so early in the hunt, and nodded their understanding before disappearing to continue their search.
Unfortunately the others had little to no success, and by the time my time was up, they had returned to wait for me in the foyer to enjoy the air con for a bit.
One of the gang liked the look of another cutie from the same place so we left him to see to her, while wandering for another lap. It was true, the place was a desert of 4's and 5's and nothing worth working up a sweat over.
Can't really recommend this region at the moment, and although I was 'very, very' happy with my selection, the pickings are slim at best, and your chances of finding something decent are possibly higher in other aforementioned mongering districts.
Of course, following this we returned to none other than.... Ecstacy bar... (Noooooooooo, not again!!! Get back foul demons of the night!!!!)

Sorry DD, but the Equatorial is also under this policy and last time I checked it was not a cheap chinese hotel. This is a new crack down on lewd behaviour and therefore unless you have stayed at the Hilton in the last month and actually brought a friend back after 11pm, it would be impossible to comment with any accuracy.
Trust me on me being precise in my info. I was there making a delivery two nights ago. Have also sent to holiday inn's, rammada, jian guo, renissance, hyatt with no problems. The bell boy at the Jian guo even gave me a thumbs up in the elevator since I had two with me at the time.
In the Hilton, walked right past the guard into the elevator. Just look like you belong and you will be fine. If you are paranoid or asked, just say your going to the bar close to the top of the hotel. Sorry, can't remember the name.
Most western hotels won't make a fuss but there are bound to be a couple. It is bad business to insult customers that pay those prices or embarass them in front of every one. Then again, come back before 11 if you really want to be sure. As I have said, I never have had a problem walking into any hotel yet with girls.

I went back again this afternoon. Picked a tall girl with a face of 6. She was alittle rush in te beginning but I told her to not rush as I am an old customer and she got into afterwards. Pretty much the same service but this one was more of a GFE. I can feel her her tighten a few times. One thing is to make sure you tell them you want the back room, so you don't get the cubes, as she didn't know I've been there before. A bit aside from the beaten track but I have been staying there almost every month for a couple of days over the past 2 years, always brought gals with me at any time of the day no problem. Staff service level esp. on the executive floor is very high.
If you are too tired to venture out just call the inhouse massage parlor, tell them what you want (you should be able to speak Chinese though) and enjoy.
Forget about Equatorial, monkey hotel at least from my experience.
I think my original post went through without me getting in everything I wanted to. Anyhow, DD, don't think it was as though I deliberately ignored all of your advice; originally, me and my friends just wanted to go bar-hopping for a few hours for beers! In fact, I like to think that the reason the damage was fairly light was due in no small part, in fact, to the many reports that I've read over the past few weeks that discussed situations like what happened to me, and I appreciated that very much :) You are absolutely right though; this was a lesson I won't forget. As I ruefully mentioned to my friend after we left, 'just consider it an off-campus college course with a 500 RMB course fee'.
Tiger 1, the KTV bar is called, as I said, 天使, or 'Tian Shi'; it's English name, Angel Bar, is on the vertical sign as well as its Chinese name. The person who found us and tricked us to the bar found us on Hengshan road, while we were searching for a good bar; he took us for a decent walk to get to the place, I'm estimating 1/2 or 1/3 of a kilometer. The bar itself was a little bit past the area with consulate generals; I recall seeing Iran's very clearly, a bit before we arrived. Through Google, I found an old entry in a diary (dated 1998) a reference to an Angel Bar, near the 'Shanghai Hotel' on Urumqi Road; as I recall walking on Urumqi Road, I -think-, that may be it. All the information I can give at the moment, I'm afraid; I'll check with my friend and see if he knows where it was.

If you choose a busy hotel that has a bar like the Crowne Plaza or Hilton chances are no one will bug you if you walk in and have a drink with the girl at the bar and then move back to your room. Or like I mentioned before if the hotel has a bar high up like the Hilton or the Hyatt Jin Mao you can waltz right past and no one will care. One other note, try to find girls that are dressed a little better so the ***** stamp isn't smack on their forehead.

Would be sensible to choose a girl that is dressed a bit more discreetly. I'm unsure if you can talk her into going back home and changing attire before you bring her to your hotel to tango. It still urks me a bit when I check-in to a hotel and read some of the amenity guides that warns of bringing in a unregistered guest after 11pm. My assistant *always* reminds me that this is China, and that their national flag is *still* red.
It might actually be nice to toss a nice warm-up suit (Juicy Couture?) and a pair of flip-flops in a backpack and have the girl change prior to walking into the hotel with you. That way she'll look like the usual female tourist. Heck, wrap a digicam around her neck and let her hold a map of city and I think you're set.

I think you already have enough potential to just go and monger. As you have learned, reading about it is one thing, but actual experience is another. You have learned a big lesson that sometimes its cheaper to just "do it" --book a gal and be a monger than to play the middle ground--sitting with gals, pay for drinks and room and end up with nothing but a big bill in the end.
Mistakes--dont worry about it as we all make them. As they say in school--its all part of the learning curve.--IMO
Suggest for your 1st virgin experience--go to an establish place but at cheap price as you are a student only with limited assets. This way you can enjoy in peace without having to worry about being ripped off.
If any experienced mongers of Shanghai can post a list of cheap but reliable places than you are set to go.

I have noticed ( NOW DONT TAKE THIS AS SOLID GOLD BECAUSE I CANNOT GUARANTEE IT WILL WORK EVERYTIME) that the local Chinese are more afraid of the police than we are. I ran into similar situations at a KTV (bill was a rip off like many stories here, but we didnt hook up with any of the girls there. We had to fight fire with fire, they got mean, we got ballistic. The female manager shouting at the top of her lungs called people into our room, I started making calls to my phantom back up (nobody was on the other line but I acted like they were coming, a large group of them too, I told them to bring "Jia Huo", slang for firearms. They went wide eyed and threatened to call the police and I was thrilled by this notion), a restaurant(I got a fat bill for a very expensive dish that was offered as complimentary, sharkfin soup that came out to 100rmb a bowl, 4 bowls you know) a greenhouse (looking to buy plants for the office, I thought the plant looked too big, she said its only the pot and offered to replant it into a larger pot, but when I didnt want it anymore, she insisted that since she repotted it I had to pay for it) and even this street vendor who sold fruit (the vendor told me he can open the watermelon and show me it was ripe and it turned out to be seriously not, but he insisted I pay for it since he already opened it). In all 4 situations, they threatened to call the police, but I happoly told them it was a great idea, and do it fast. In all 4 situations, they backed down fast right after they senses I was serious. I think its a guilty mentality here and they sure as hell feel guilty.
I know the cops are useless, but I think that local Chinese are used to people being scared about the cops.

Filipino maids have already occupied Shanghai's high-grade household service market.
Currently there are some two thousand of them had serving families in Shanghai through different ways, and the number is still increasing.
A household service company wrote on its website, "All our maids have come to China through legitimate ways and have been strictly selected. We have also given them all the necessary training."
The Filipino maids have various assignments: taking care of children, teaching them English, doing household chores, etc.
Their lowest salary is 3,500 yuan (US$438) per month. However, their clients have to pay them 14 thousand yuan for training fees, visa charges, life insurance and China air trip tickets. So, hiring an ordinary Filipino maid would cost one at least 60 thousand yuan (US$7,514) annually.
i finally got over to the shanghai hotel to see what all the fuss is about. since i live right next to the sauna on yan an zhong lu between tong ren lu and shaanxi lu, i've never really thought about checking out other saunas. that one usually did the trick for me. but, feeling adventurous i checked it out yesterday and i have to admit that it was pretty nice.
if you are familiar with this facility then you don't really need to read this. it's mostly an introduction to the sauna for those who have never been.
it occurred to me that visiting a sauna is sort of like playing video games (or, if you prefer, like "the game of death" where bruce lee has to fight various foes to advance to the next level). each area has it's rules and specifics, and knowing how to navigate through each level will give you a better all-around experience.
first, here is a link to a map that gives you the location of the hotel. you could probably print this out since it's in chinese and show it to a taxi driver. i've actually had problems locating the hotel before so this might be of assistance to someone out there.

and so, here is my level-by-level shanghai hotel sauna walk-through ...
level 1: the lobby
this is pretty easy to navigate. you walk in and the reception desks are on your left. in front of you on your right is a bank of china atm machine which can take foreign cards. the sauna only accepts cash so if you forgot some money this is where you can fuel up for your journey to pleasure-town. after you get your money take the elevators located just past the receptions desks on the left to the second floor.
level 2: the locker room
at this sauna the front desk gives you a little round magnetic key with a number on it. some saunas wait until you're in the locker room, but it's all pretty standard. that number is your id and it's how they bill you after you have partaken of their services.
after you enter the locker room, you are to undress and put all your clothes and belongings in your assigned locker. for general security purposes, i advise not bringing anything too valuable (i.e. a laptop, jewelry, your life savings, etc.) with you for the trip. in truth, you're really only going there for the sex so there isn't much need to bring anything aside from some money and your xiao di di.
if you do bring anything, most saunas (including this one) provide a small sealable plastic bag to put them in. stick your wallet (some saunas don't let you do this and you have to keep it in the locker) or cellphone (get your favorite girl's number) or pda (write down the numbers of good providers to share with isg folks) in the little baggie and then you are ready for the next level.
level 3: the washroom
this is where you prepare your body. each sauna is different, but most operate similarly. at the shanghai hotel you will see a big huge pool of water in the middle of the room. then, looking around from your immediate left around the room, you will first see two semi-enclosed areas with tables. this is where you can get your body scrubbing on. there is a guy there who will scrape and exfoliate your body to give you that new car shine. as is true of all services at a sauna, it naturally costs extra.
after that you will see a small area with mirrors, stools and a variety of washing supplies. this is really more for the japanese customers, as it is a closer simulation to the japanese bathing experience. you might see someone sitting there all lathered up and you can feel free to do the same.
next you will see a small group of lockers. you can put your bag in here if you plan on spending a fair amount of time in this room. you lock your valuables in the small locker and they give you a key -- helps to keep them nice and dry.
past that are the showers where you can wash up and .. well, shower, of course.
and then you can see the door to the next level. if you are one of those people who have to get every hidden easter egg on mario brothers then you might want to try each part of the room in turn, but if you're eager for the main event, then just wash up at the showers and head to the next level.
level 4: changing
not much to talk about here. you take off your washroom slippers which you got in the locker room and dry off with the towel they give you. at some saunas the guys will help you by patting you down with a towel on your back, but they didn't do that for me at the shanghai hotel. however, the changing area here is a bit crowded so be sure not to accidentally smack someone's privates as you're putting on the sauna's shorts and shirt. slip on your new level 5 slippers and you're on your way.
after changing they might ask you if you want to rest ("xiu xi"). you can just say yes and they will lead you to level 5.
level 5: waiting
you will be taken to a big waiting room. in some saunas this is literally just a room with a bunch of comfy chairs, a tv, and no services except for some drinks or fruit. however at the shanghai hotel they have all sorts of options for the visiting customer. when you sit down you can order something from the small menu next to the chair. it's in japanese and chinese though so if you don't read you can just ask for some water, tea or juice and chillax to your favorite chinese drama on the big screen tv. they actually have food at these places too, so if you're starving feel free to order up some beef noodle soup or some dumplings.
i partook of some of the services here and most of them were pretty standard. foot massage, pedicure, etc. but one in particular was pretty darn awesome.
if you ask for the ear cleaning service they have a (fairly hot) girl in the traditional chinese dress come to your chair. she scoots you over to one side, lies along the side of you with your arm around her and your hand on her (incredibly nice) ass as she cleans your ears. you can also have her give you a shoulder and neck massage, which she does in the same position, and basically she's lying in the chair with you while she does all this. she also can do pedicures. the girl i got was named ... something-bing. yang bing? shoot, i can't remember. anyway, she was pretty cute. unfortunately this service is a little pricey, but if you got some money to burn and time to kill, i could think of worse ways of doing it.
by the time you've had some food, drink, massage and your nails are all trimmed you're probably ready for the main event. soon enough a guy will come to you and ask you if you want a massage. on to level 6!
level 6: the massage
they guy will lead you down a series of cooridors. it reminded me of a very slow version of doom. except without the monsters and various cute girls saying "welcome!" along the way. after a short walk you are shown a room of girls lined up. some saunas give you a line-up and some don't. i was happy that this sauna was of the later. i picked a girl that seemed nice and was quite tall (i'd put her at around 5'9" or so, with heels. they all seemed about the same so i just sort of did an "eenie meenie miny moe" type of thing. she told me she's from shanghai and her employee number is 878. i think she's the first native shanghai person i've met doing this sort of work, but then i haven't had a ton of experience. in any case, she led me down another path of coordidors to room 23. i could hear the distant sounds of other people having sex and girls crying out in pleasure as she told me to lie down as she brought back the "supplies".
initially it was a fairly a-typical sauna experience. you get the body sucking, fire and ice treatment, rim job, red rope blow job, tit massage, etc. etc. but the nice thing with her was that when i was getting ready for missionary i decided to spend some time to help her out a bit. in general i get off on getting girls off, so i spent about 25 minutes daty and i think the vein in her forehead almost burst. by the time i got to work on giving myself a happy ending she was pretty out of it.

they will lead you back to the changing area where you get rid of your shorts and shirt and strip down again for the bathing room. here again you can partake of all the ammentities, from the body scrubbing to the gigantic hot tub. most guys just wash up and head out for a steak, but if you have time you might as well get your money's worth. and of course, once you are finished with the wash up, you go back to the locker, change back to your room, comb your hair, and head on to the reception desk to pay your bill.
remember that they don't take credit cards here (they take local cards and local atm cards at the one i usually go to, so it's best to check the sauna you will go to before entering to make sure you have whatever you need to pay for the experience) so it's a good thing you went to the atm machine before hand.
and so ends my shanghai hotel sauna walk-through. my total damage for the trip was $1090, but that's because i got a few drinks, had the ear cleaning and massage stuff in the waiting room, and generally "went for it" with the ammenities. you can, of course, get just the standard experience for under 700 rmb.

In the worst case, the "Foreigner Police" is called, and those guys are not funny, at all. I met those guys once, very well trained, very sharp-minded, very efficient and real butt-kickers. You do not want to deal with them.

AG was very clear that the issue was "after 11pm". I have never had a problem with any hotel going in at a reasonable hour. Blacklisted and I had a unique problem because it *was* 3am, and we *were* a bit more than tipsy.
The girls looked awfully slutty, but had no intention of charging us for the fun. Sigh. We were asking for it.
I agree that coming in at a "normal" hour will never be a problem. I think the Equatorial and Hilton are no different in that regard. I've brought in street urchins at midnight and not been stopped.
To the other poster, just what in hell do you mean by "monkey hotel"? I have found it to be a very nice, 4 star hotel. The new rooms (they are in the midst of a top to bottom remodel and have reached down to the 7th floor) are exceptionally nice, in my opinion nicer than the 5 star Hilton rooms. But of course, the Hilton has a much nicer lobby and nicer bars. Neither hotel offers extras in their spa, from my experience.

If you try to walk into your hotel slightly buzzed with a girl who looks like a hooker at 3 AM then you are asking for trouble. If you are sensible and get to the hotel by about 11 or so and there are people in the lobby still then they won't bug you. Seriously, if they had to flag every westerner in the hotel that walked in with a Chinese girl there would be chaos. What am I saying? Don't stick out like a sore thumb and you will be fine. If you choose a busy hotel that has a bar like the Crowne Plaza or Hilton chances are no one will bug you if you walk in and have a drink with the girl at the bar and then move back to your room. Or like I mentioned before if the hotel has a bar high up like the Hilton or the Hyatt Jin Mao you can waltz right past and no one will care. One other note, try to find girls that are dressed a little better so the ***** stamp isn't smack on their forehead.
AG posted a good way to get around this a couple of weeks ago. Maybe time for a quick review.

Upoon getting out of my car, This shanghainese guy who bange my car walke straight at me and started to scolding me in their native language. All I could make out what he was saying is that I caused the accident an he wants me to pass him 10000rmb for compensation. I was totaly pissed and started to rattle back at him in english.
I could see he was stunt when I started speaking english and some how, he soften down on his tone. (I think he reliaze I am not a China local)
Oh yah, did I mention he was driving a police car.
Soon after, a traffic policemen came to take down our documents. In the process, somehow, that idiot who banged my car took full responsibility for the accident.
This is nothing related to our hobby but just want to let fellow members here know, if anything happens, do make a call to the police for help and I am quite sure you will be the one having the advantage rather then the locals.

So, after having discovered this board and succumbing to its lure despite knowing that it would quickly be a slippery slope downwards, I’ve read with great interest your collective experiences. I thought I would share one of my own.
I just got back from the ZY Pub, apparently well-known here. It is on the corner of Xin1zha2 lu and Jiao1zhou1 lu. Tel: 21-6271-5553. You’ll know it from the yellowish 1m dimeter round yellow beer sign and a big “ZY” on the front door.
I got there around 10:30pm, and as soon as I stepped into the door the manager greeted me. I told him right away that I had been there before, but I didn’t have to. He remembered me and actually asked me a couple details from when I was last there. Do these people write down all the details from their newbies or do they just have unbelievable memories?
I was ushered in past the tiny bar into the waiting room, a largish room with two semicircular red velvet lounge sofas and a large glass table, around which sat half a dozen girls dressed reasonably well. At first glance, no one blew me away. My sense of scale is probably horribly calibrated, but maybe 5-8s?
There was only one other customer, a Japanese looking older fellow, but he left almost as soon as I arrived. I asked how business was, and the manager said that things were slow. Almost no new business. (maybe that’s in relation to their prices?) Well for those who think Chinese cops are useless there are a few very different types of cops. There are the local district pencil pushing cops which are useless. Then there are the plain clothes guys who will gang up and beat you to a pulp. Saw that at a mall the other day. The cops in that case won't hesitate to use force. If you happen to be unlucky and run into the head trainer for the police force you are in for a rude and painful experience. Had a friend who sparred with him once.
In China people may not have a lot of respect for the cops and the cops may seem in general to be useless but they are all over. Remember Big Brother is watching always.

So we tried „Waves“ for the first time today. Not exactly easy to find, as you don’t see it from the street. You have to walk into a little side street for 100 yards and will then find it to your right. There is a small car parking lot in front of the building.
The routine is similar to the other sauna places, but not exactly the same. The folks looked kind of surprised when I sat down at the sofa close to the reception to get rid of my shoes. With some wild gestures they tried to make me understand that this step happens only in the locker room – whatever. My “standard place” at Hongmei Lu requires the shoes to be taken of next to the reception.
Undressing and showering is pretty much the same, except that I like the facilities better at Hongmei Lu (Da Tang Yu Jing, 3125 Hong Mei Road) and also at Skyline Sauna. There were plenty of attendants there, but most of them rather standing around and not very helpful. No extras were offered to me in the shower area, that didn’t bother me as I know what I can do there and was not in the mood for pool or Sauna or scrub anyways. However, new fellows may be a bit lost there.
After toweling and dressing I was led upstairs and brought to the relaxation are with the Comfy chairs. The chairs are arranged in two rows facing each other. I was sitting opposite to 3 Japanese that were constantly zapping thru the channels. I actually prefer my private room, which I get offered by default in both DTYJ and Skyline.
After sitting around for about 10 minutes with some Xi Gua and drink, I was asked to go to the “masaji”. A pleasant surprise was the line up, consisting of at least 10 girls. I chose one with a nice smile, some of them looked like they are in absolutely no mood…..

70 Euros would be a little over 700 RMB, so that's not a terrible price for all night. You could probably do a little better, but not by too much depending on the time.
But on the hotel issue: if it was after 11pm, the hotels have been more tight about keeping out guests. AG reports that this is due to a police memorandum to hotels to keep the hookers out after 11pm. (Not the way they worded it apparently, but that's the intent.)
Your hotel could still be girl unfriendly. AG has a suggestion that might work: Ask the hotel reception for a new key. Tell them you misplaced yours. Keep the old one, and when you bring in a girl have her show "her" key to security. (Be sure to get it back!) Alternatively, tell security you are going to the bar.
I have not tried either yet, but I am preparing to do so on this trip. I have noticed my hotel's evening security is significantly tighter than it was 3 months ago.

Here's what I am doing as far as keys are concerned. During Check-In I will already ask for 2 room keys. If this does not work, I usually tell them I had left it at my desk in the office and need a replacement.
Also as I usually stay in the same hotel whenever I travel to a particular city, I will keep the room key when checking out. This will give you a second key card and you don't have to ask for 2 keys next time you check in - better yet, the card you give to the girl will not be actually usable to open the door to your room. Just in case she "accidently" takes it with her.
Anyways what still works best for me is just to walk in without paying to much notice to the security - just as if you'd own the damn place....

If you don't remember to ask for 2 keys from the start, all you have to do is say you lost your key and get a replacement. If it is a credit card style (magnetic strip) it will not cost you anything at the better chains and your old card will not work.
Anywhy it is good to have a couple cards when you travel simply so you don't have to leave anything important in the power slot.

Well I think I need to take a holiday from all this sex. It is starting to take its toll. Anyways, had a mate in from Canada and took him around for some fun on the town, all the usual. After being a member of this board for quite some time, reading lots of reports and benefitting from them, I can finally giver something back.
I walked by this place many times already and decided to try it out friday night.
It is located on Dujuan Rd. corner with YuLan Rd. about 500m walking distance from the Pudong METRO Supermarket and LongYang Rd. Subway Station.
Procedure is same as other saunas.
Clean and modern Shower area, no jacuzzi or other pool though.
The upstairs rooms are similar to hotel rooms, with queen size bed and noghtstands.
Rails on the ceiling, but I couldn;t find out if some girls do a red rope style show, mine didn't.
Had a lineup of 3 girls, chose #27 from Chongqing.

I think Dragon D had received enough advertisement from fellow members.

I talked to this girl several times earlier this year, and ended up blowing her off. Here's why:
1. Her communication ability (I mean different from language ability) is horrible and terribly annoying
2. She can't keep her story straight about her job (as AG said, PA for an MD, to me she said travel agent, and later PA, and later something else)

The Forum's ability to allow photos can certainly come in handy at this point.
I would also point out that those of you who do not wish to see his reports have an easy solution: Simply add him to your ignore list and you'll never see his reports again.

It has the typical Chinese hallmarks for a massage place with the boys helping you undress, the communal shower room, pjs and the obligatory wait in the relaxation lounge. This is a big establishment with lots of ladies.
The standard of service was first class and a first time for me to enjoy the ‘red rope’ treatment. It has to be experienced to be believed. Apart from the acrobatics, it defies graphic description.

Since I've loitered for a while I thought I'd contribute, for what it's worth. I thought Shanghai was difficult to pick up freebies - I've been to Beijing before, so I half expected this. On TRL (Tong Ren Lu) scene, as you know; I have at least one "freebie" in every bar on TRL, if not more. My problem is to balance it out nicely so that freebies do not fight or get to know that I am shagging another girl within the same bar or even in another bar next to where they work. I can vision it already the day will come when; I would not be able to walk down TRL without having girls coming out of their bars and giving me a tight slap in the face!
But as David said, it is easy to hit and score on freebie in these bars. One basic tip: These girls are mostly lonely as many people look lowly upon them as bargirls, they think they have no pride. If you are able to look at them at another angle talk to them with that in mind, they can quickly be your friend and give in to you.
However I did not agree fully on the part where all the girls are not "real" in their love for you. I had found that these girls; they are still human, they are entitled to fall in love with you. However; warning to members who wants to follow my balancing act; be prepared to invest a lot of time and be prepared to give very reasonable excuses for not having time to see any one of the freebie. Remember; I am semi-retired and have more time than anyone else to play this game.
On the other hand: I am sure some of these freebies I am shagging knows that I have other girls in my timetable; but that further enforced that their choice of hanging on to me is correct; because they know the fact that man should be liked by many girls and that make him unique from the others. With that in their mind, she works even harder to nail you down! Hengshan Lu is full of Action if you go down 1 km South from where your S.Apartment is there are whole rows of bars on both side. Read the forum for which are the recommended bars.
Basic Starting price 11RMB taxi ride. Get on the cab at Summit Serviced Apartments, straight down Yanan Lu turn Left at Tong Ren Lu, 5 mins you are there (without evening traffic).

Tried another sauna over here in Pudong the other day.
It’s not the best place I have been to, but not too bad, and worth a visit if you like variety.
The address is Eshan Lu, 91 Nong, No. 58. ( 峨山路91弄58号 ) The sauna is on the third floor.
It’s not that easy to find at first. The best way is to go east on Eshan Lu, away from the intersection with Dongfang Lu. On the left (north) side of the road there is 91 Nong, which is effectively a subdivision. Turn into that subdivision and go straight for a couple hundred meters. The Weitai Hotel is on the right.
If you are not in the mood to hunt for the place, then just take a taxi and tell the driver to go to the Weitai Binguan ( 伟泰宾馆 ). It’s not a small place, so most taxi drivers should know of it.
Most of the shower, hot tub, etc. was the usual mid-range sauna stuff, no need to elaborate.
However, I did get a free rub-down by the guy in the shower area. He had a big red bucket full of soapy water that he dipped a towel in every once in a while while lathering me up. Now I know how my car feels when it gets a bath.
There was no lineup, unfortunately. The girl was already waiting in the massage room. So it’s a roll of the dice. Mine came up low in the looks category, so I chose to focus on the big fake boobs. I don't know why I still bother to post information on the board because I would likely be framed or mocked by some members on the board like EG or S.Ho. But after some thoughts I decided to continue posting this report to tell members about how nice is new waves sauna.
Mock-A-Bee and I arrived there at 9:30pm, after the normal showers and soak in the pool we were lead to the VIP room walking in a maze of Stair-cases to the second floor.
The Management:
The people are the same except that you would find that most of the former staff who had serve for longer periods been promoted to Manager level. The Managers are the same with additions of a few new one who speaks perfect Japanese and one that speak perfect English. I saw Manager Lin which in turns exclaimed why did he not seen me for a long time. The second floor VIP rooms, I was surprise to see the little waitress, whom I had shag privately one year ago and disappeared on her, been promoted as the rooms manager. She stared at me as if she was going to jump on me and beat the shit out of me! Lucky Manager Lin took us immediately to our room.
The Hardware:
Although it has moved from the original premises; it is just the building facing the previous place. The Owner had bought the whole building and converted the whole of the 4 floor building into the Waves Sauna. 1st Floor is reception, Hot/cold baths, Showers, Sauna and steam room, 2nd Floor are the VIPs rooms (where foot massages are conducted, Resting area, 3rd & 4th floor are the massage rooms. VIPs has nothing special besides the fact that those who are high on drugs would be happy to stay in there as there are still very strong smell of fresh paint. The big difference here is in the private massage room. Apparently the owner did put in a lot of investment in putting a personal shallow bath, Sex bed, Mirror on ceiling in every room. Upon entering the room you would find the room are divided into the Sex room and the Bathroom. The Sex room is equipped with a sex bed with mechanical functions to aid the Up and down motions of Cowgirl riding. It has 4 different modes and operates with a remote control. Fixed to the bed are bars extended in circular manner upward from the foot of the bed to the head of the bed. With Bars attached cross to both circular bars for the purpose of Red Ropes acrobatics! In the bath room is a shallow bath with Jacuzzi functions. Full height mirrors on two side of the wall for viewing pleasure.
The software:
We were waiting in the VIP room for almost 30 mins before we decide to ring the bell for the Manager to find out what the hell is going on!!! Manager Lin apologized for the delay and explained that because of the new equipments and pricing, the girls have to be re-trained to adapt the new services. There are enough rooms to go around although tonight is a crowded night but as for the girls, not all of the girls are trained yet and therefore he is hesitant to give us the girls that are likely to give lousy service. As the wait is going to be longer, MAB decided to do a foot massage while I got a pedicure. MAB had no. 703 who was one of the staff from previous place.

I would recommend you to stay in Puxi.
All major mongering venues mentioned in this thread are located in this area of town.
Maybe you can select accommodation in Huangpu or Luwan districts, located not far from the river, so you can reach Pudong quickly in case you desire so.

Firstly, on a completely different subject. Those who are visiting Shanghai might want to try out the Shen Garden Hotel on the corner of Tibet South Rd, or Xi Zhang Nan Lu; and Fu Xing Rd. It is about 1 klick south of People's Square, but the rates are only 550 per night with free ADSL in your room. This also includes the breakfast buffet as well. Alot of hotels charge alot more and dont include breakfast and internet is pay per day. Anyways, it is 4 star but the room is a solid 7.

After getting so much useful information from this forum, I think it's time for me to contribute a bit.
I recently went with a friend to the Royal Silver Spring Sauna at the Hengsheng Peninsula International Hotel near the Bund area. I was told that it is usally quite busy, but as it was a Sunday afternoon the place was nearly empty - good!
It is a usual Sauna set-up with clean facilities. Actually, my Chinese friend told me that this place is (also) famous for quite good food. I was hungry, but for something else, so we skipped this part and settled down in a private room. After some minutes, the assistant manager entered, gave us his card and explained about the available services. He asked us about our preferences regarding the girls and made some recommendations.
At least, this is what I imagined he did as my Chinese is way too bad to follow this kind of conversation. However, I don't think you need to be able to speak Chinese in this place like in all the other Sauna places - there is no room for misunderstandings.
Anyway, he said two girls (per person...) who match our preferences would wait for us in our massage room and we should just send one out - or keep both.

i feel that the wages are a bit too much. given her current demands, im sure that there will be more forthcoming after the marriage. i would be careful and finding out what more demand is in the horizon.
when they start making demands or costly suggestion whether i can afford it or not i start working on alternative plans. It is really not where i can afford it or not. i just do not appreciate them running my life. just my pov.
i had lunch with an old friend a while back and he married a divorcee. he told me that before they were marry.... she loved everything that he likes.. going out to the football games, fishing and all types of things.. a month after the marriage, she started to like less and less of things he thought they enjoyed together. While not from shanghai, my cousin-in-law has the same issue. His wife is brazillian and they live in Korea - she demanded that she always got a maid from brazil to stop her from being homesick - they are normally younger relatives and there is a bit of rotation (due to visa issues). She also takes her maid on holidays. All i can say is the situation you describe is not unique to women from shanghai and his comments are, if it makes my wife happy - i have a chance of being happy, so he feels its worth it. But the issue is not luangage - its being homesick.
The only comment is, in this case there is one one person to pay - the maid from brazil. In your case you need to pay for 2 folks - i would suggest you are better off getting a local maid in PI (cheaper) and just pay for one local shanghai translator realative who can cook occassionally - but that is only an un-informed opinion.

As with Sebastian My, my wife is not from SH but from the islands and we have to have someone with her at all times from the islands. To speak the language, cook and eat the types of foods etc... Wages you stated, in my experience in CH that does seem high to me even in PI it's high in my opinion. I have about the same issues Sebastian My stated, gotta take the one with us on vacation etc... just like a part of the family. Of course my option is to move back to her home but since we are relocated often it's not an option. But I can affoard it and I don't mind having an extra hand around to help out.

Well after a month of RTFF I finally got to Shanghai, and after what seemed like an interminable time, finally got some free time away from the freebie-clingon.
I had a few choices… stick with the well reported DTYJ, or Shanghai Hotel, or YuPing Hotel saunas, or go really left-field and try one never listed before.
I ended up going to Shanghai Hotel as it was closest to the after-mongering dinner location with the clingon. I was there about 4pm on Wednesday.
Thanks to the infamous post 4772, I knew most of what to expect, and after 2 weeks of “local” facilities, I was really glad about the top notch showers and cleaning services provided, including the exfoliation, and later in the waiting lounge a pedicure – the latter turning out to be really useful for the tittie-massage my toes and feet where given later.
Then off to the line-up room. Well despite all the previous reports of “stunners” in the line-ups, I was quite disappointed that most of them where fairly unattractive (2s-4s IMHO). And this poses my first question for the regulars/seniors….. In a sauna like this, after you have gone through all the cleaning and grooming, plus all the mental preparation for the shag ahead, can you just turn around and leave if there is nothing in the line-up that really appeals to you?? (Obviously just paying for the cleaning and pedicure – if you had them)
Anyway, back to the story, standing there in the doorway to the line-up room, and not wanting to look like a complete dork by taking ages, and ages, to make my pick, I selected the only girl that was still smiling after 20secs. I have the impression, whatever you financially can afford, over time more and more of your finance power will be channeled to some chineese community around your future wife. Can't believe by all love that your alarm clock is not ringing continuously in highest grade emergency mode.
You should definitely not marry.
Even I would start considering alternatives.
Better a personal high emotional loss now then later including all financial loss.
You will not be able to hold her anyhow.
She is either just not capable to live abroad, and then obviously not a candidate for international marriage, or she just ripps you off.
The earlier you get clear with that reality, the the lower your emotional damage will be.

I married a lady from Shanghai, we dated for 4 years first then married. I told her from the start:
No family moving in, visits are fine
No dowry payment when and if we wed
A good possibility of relocation, only the 2 of us
All is fine and we never have problems, then only problem we have is a ***** of an Aunty who keeps going on about the non dowry, not really her business anyway.
Why would you want a Chinese ayi in PI, there's loads over there and I'm sure they can do a much better job being in their own country and all. Sounds like she's trying to milk a bit to me. As Brain said the expense may be fine for now but it will keep rising, all for the benefit of her or her family. I know so many guys in Thailand who have done the same thing and it has ended in ruin, and not hers.
China has a huge population of awsome women, good and bad, and if I was you I would certainly cut her short now and move on.

Went through some of CL's previous post, Looks that he has the financial agreements already properly done. But he wants kids as well and when it is about your potential daughter and/ or son, then much more comes into game then money in a potential divorce or separation.
CL gave similar advise to several others himself in similar situation as I did to him and from an outside perspective his own case looks not so much different from all the others, except that she was probably not a woking girl. But all other firewall indicators are clearly at alarm mode.
But I am not wearing the milk glasses of love of course.

when i'm in shanghai next i'll definitely be going back to the second floor working on the assumption that, this time, i'll find a zhang ziyi or karena lam clone.

Seeing all the posts about dating Chinese women, I finally decided to put in my 2 cents, or 4 rules.
My first rule of gift giving especially in dating does not limit to Chinese girls and is applicable to both men and women.
Rule #1:"Can he/she afford this gift/luxury/service by him/herself?" (Women reading this, if any, if you need examples think of Brit Spears and K. Fed)
Never give her what she could not afford herself. An associate of mine has a Shanghainese girlfriend. The girl works and earns maybe 1500RMB a month, but demands my buddy to buy her a house, a Buick, and etc etc. On her own, she would not be able to afford this unless she never spent a penny and saved till the year 2120. She thinks she deserves it. According to her logic, I DESERVE a villa in the south of France! I DESERVE my own island! I DESERVE a private jet! Hell I DESERVE to be Hugh Heff. But if I say this, I think I sound more like a spoiled brat that deserves nothing. At least that is how my mamma raised me. I dont know why, but alot of my married friends in Shanghai tell me the same story, alot of girls from their childhood have been taught by their parents to marry a rich man so she never has to work another day in her life (I wonder if she worked a day in her life period). Just because a girl makes more money than what she is asking for does not mean she can afford it either. We are talking about comfortable affordability here. But I ask only this question from a traditional American upbringing: Should everything be handed over to me on a silver platter?
Rule #2: "If I never had it before, do I need it?"
Econ 101 tells us there is a difference between want and need. Needs are necessary for survival, want is lavishly luxurious for personal comfort.
In CL's example I dont know the status of his fiance's family background, but unless she has always had a housekeeper and a personal Shanghainese cook, it doesnt seem all that vital for her survival. I beleive we should accredit the blurring of the want and need lines to advertisers these days. They are really doing their jobs well.
Examples: A buddy of mine in banking is dating this girl who keeps asking him for a Gucci bag priced at 10,000 RMB because she needs it. I wonder how her make up and hairbrush survived this long prior to meeting him.....Hell I wonder if she can even pronounce "Gucci"?
Another buddy bought his girlfriend a Honda, yeah now she is complaining because she "xu yao" (needs) a BMW and how she should have married this richer business man she knew instead of my buddy. My buddy's mother-in- law also complains to me how she is so beautiful and should have married someone better. Yeah my buddy makes good money in Shanghai, and she doesnt know how to do shit. Her family is from the villages in Hei Long Jiang. But you know, I always thought it was coincidentally funny because she wanted her English name to be Cinderella.
Alot of Shanghainese will "need" something the moment they see someone else have it. Its part of this culture. You got a tv, I get a big screen. You got the big screen, now I need the high def. Reminds me of the loony toon show downs where eventually Daffy Duck will pull out the nuclear missile....
The next thing, which I am sure everybody already know but I will mention just in case. Chinese people love "mian zi" (face). The Chinese phrase for everything material is called "li zi" (substance, wealth, etc) The old Chinese saying is "first want li zi, then want mian zi" Basically, hold onto your wallet, forget about looking bad. When all goes to hell, at least you got your wallet intact. If you focus too hard to make yourself look good, you lose both in the end. I think this axiom has its place in western society as well. Funny thing is that Chinese women love to challenge their men's ego, and usually in defending his ego due to the strong affection for mian zi, their men loosen their wallet. This sort of warfare has it's roots in Sun Tsu's 36 tactics. Bright man, his wife must have hated his ass because of it too.
This brings me to my third rule of dating, life (especially business) and everything in general:
Rule #3: "In the end, would I rather save assets or save face?"
I say the old axioms are the best advice. Its the countermeasure to playing the "if you love me you will buy me (fill in your own big ticket item she can never dream of owning if she wasnt attached to you) card."
And finally, good Chinese girls have very modern thinking and if in love want to contribute into a mutually respectful relationship instead of demand. (Cross reference also in Rule #1.)
So, Rule #4: "To love is to give and not ask for anything in return."
So the girl you are dating, do you find yourself bending over backwards and forward to please her, or does she have a strong desire to make you happy? Is the oncoming traffic flowing as strongly as the traffic from your direction?

Try Waves Sauna, you would find the Royal bath experience very similar to the Soapland of Japan. I lived in Japan for 5 years and found that this service now available in Waves is better than some of the soapland in Japan. Plus the facilities are new. There are even a few managers who speaks good Japanese.

So we have a person with experience with Shanghainese women. Yes I have heard from many sources (plus personal experience) that most Shanghainese women have at least one of these traits. That is why alot of ABC are now talking about marrying women from other regions instead of Shanghai.
However I would like to point out a few alternative views:
1. I dont know if the women change for the worse, but it is in the culture to expect more from their men once they marry. In western society we try to present our best during dating and learn to accept eachother. Chinese women on the other hand accept you from the beginning but will try to change you for your own good (or so I was told by a girl I dated). The problem is that what is for my own good and what is for her good is seriously blurred. Shanghainese mothers teach their daughters to change their husbands to be obedient. This IS scary.
2. Regarding Shanghainese women's desire to control your money, we need to attribute this to the weakness in Chinese men, especially Shanghainese men nowadays. The men come home and hand over the paycheck, the women spend the money. It is tradition I suppose. Also remember this society still values a person by how much money they make. Oftentimes you will hear one party in an arguement say "Who do you think you are? How much money do you make to say that? Do you know how much money I make?"
3. Regarding bitchiness, this is absolutely true. If you ever seen a Shanghainese girl in a shouting match on the street you will know. She can shout for hours on end. What scares me is that this girl is really pretty and ladylike one minute, the next she is cursing a blue streak that will make a sailor blush. They are also physically violent as well. I saw a woman in Xu Jia Hui slap a driver that bumped into her boyfriend's car. She then turned aorund and slapped an older lady passing by for asking her to get out of the way.
4. Regarding husbands being slaves, this is also turning true slowly but surely. You can also accredit alot of this happening to media. Shanghainese men somehow learned the phrase "treat your lady like a queen" and have taken it literally. Women do nothing at home, the husband comes home from work, buys groceries, cooks, cleans, helps their child with homework etc etc. If you ever watch Chinese TV talk shows, they talk about this. You will notice that when a women says she doesnt cook or clean or do any housework the reaction to her statement is normal. The reason the women dont want to do labor work is because they want to preserve their beauty and a husband "Lao gong" is suppose to spoil "teng ai" his woman. Cooking gets the grease on their skin, hair, and nails blah blah blah. That is why most of my Shanghainese guy friends stay late after work, always with an excuse of business engagements to their wives. Sometimes it is true, other times they are just playing Solitaire in the office.
I guess the women in Shanghai are not bad, but rather this is just how their society is changing to. What we perceive as crazy is perfectly normal for them. But you are right about one thing, with a good western education may help change this attitude. But I think in CL's case, the girl has already signed a pre-nup so perhaps her motives are different. Besides, he already mentioned that this subject is closed so let us respect that!

About the earlier posting, just what I have heard from friends who have wifes from those places. The happiest of the gang though has to be my buddy from Indonesia. Something about men not being allowed into the kitchen makes his day. He gets home and takes a power nap while she makes dinner, she wakes him up for dinner, after dinner she cleans while he hits the sofa, then she cuts fruit up and he lies there watching tv while she feeds it to him. This has been going on for years and nothing has changed. Japanese women I have heard are also very nice wives and am currently looking around for a nice one that speaks Chinese.. exchange students can be fun.
All this talk about women though, I have met some girls whom I would consider psycho bit*ches from hell but some guy comes along and the guy manages to give her a complete make over and make her purr like a kitten at his whim. So my question is as follows:
Is it men who make women what they are? I mean some people from TW and HK etc I think deserve the nagging gold diggers because they bring it upon themselves to show the wealth. But for the average joe, if you keep a womans expectations down, does that change their attitude? Just a thought for your pursual.

3. They usually do not show their greed at early stage to not to spoil the game.

I recently have been checking out some of the lower-end BBS down by the Shanghai South Train Station, specifically a few along Shi Long Lu. There is a short row of them about a block east of the train station along the north side of Shi Long Lu that I went to on two occasions.
The first time I went to the second one down (or possibly the third one down?). Service was okay, but the environment wasn't all that nice. It's a poorer part of town so that's to be expected. FS for 150, no BJ or DFK. The girl seemed to get into it. But for 150 I couldn't complain too much.
The second time was to the first one on the row. I ended up with a slightly chubby girl from jiangsu, but she seemed to enjoy herself. Good DFK and FS for 200 RMB, but no BJ. The place was only slightly cleaner than the neighbor down the way.
I put a link to the second one through a google earth map point, but i'm not sure if this will work or not. I will upload it and hope that it works. Basically, in order to see this just follow these 3 simple steps:
1. Make sure you have google earth. IF you don't, get it. It's free. earth.google.com.
2. Download the attachment and save it on your desktop. don't worry .. no viruses or anything. unzip it and open the "isg" folder. you will see a file called "348_shilonglu_BBS.kmz"
3. Double click on the file and it will open in google earth. And voila! You can see the location. I included some other information like the address and stats on the girl there.
If this is helpful I was thinking of combining information from my other reports and making one master kmz file for all the places around shanghai. Then all you need to do is download the file and you will know all the relevant information for each mongering location in Shanghai. Anyway, that's just a thought. It might not be a great idea and I might have overlooked something that could go wrong.
In any case, I'm doing it for my own information regardless. Whether or not I post it up here has yet to be determined. LEt me know if you think it's a good idea or not.

Good Chinese women I hear will support their husband completely. Often more willing than western women to give up their own desires for their husbands. She will often help in her husband's business and work very hard for the family. Also Chinese women are very family oriented, sometimes to the brink of insanity. I know alot of Chinese couples who havent slept in the same bed together once the child is born because the child wants to sleep in the same bed with mommy. But for those who are family and business oriented, good Chinese women are a great catch. I have also heard that alot of Chinese women have good business senses, so a good wife is like the best assistant you can get.
I think its a matter of if you find yourself a lazy girl or not.

You can't get in directly, but there is a sneaky way to read at least some of the posts (at least from outside China):
Go to google, search for "chinabounder". You should see at least one blog entry. Click on the *Cached* version in Google.
Look to the right side of that blog entry, find the titles of other entries. Put those titles in a google search, along with the word "chinabounder". You should get another google result that will provide you a cached entry.
Good luck! It is a bit painful, but gets you the entries (at least some of them).

I can get though via my VPN to States and to the internet from there, but I am assuming that not everyone on the board has a VPN to USA or to any outside world. Not too sure about Anonymizing service in China.
