Ag i feel so unlucky! next week i'll be for my fisrt tiem in china, adn exaclty in shanghai and i had the aim to go exaclty to some bbs .... what do you suggest me as a discreet alternative? is there any shanghai expert who can help me to fulfill the desire to taste local specialities without going in jail?

Excellent report #6658 about the New Waves! I just was there a few days ago, and everything is exactly as you described.

In some states in the US it's a lot lower than any of the numbers posted below. Does that make it right ? no.

I have tried massages all over S E Asia and was hoping to try some of the ones in Shanghai as well. Any opinions from south asians on the board on any experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Due to recent events the U.S Federal Inspection Service has become especially sensitive to people returning from Shanghai. I just went through a grueling 1 hour search and probing of every piece of luggage as well as every file on my laptop on my flight back from Shanghai. Recommend that anyone returning to travel extremely light and be prepared for your laptop to be turned on and all it's file gone through. During this entire process you will be treated like a criminal. I would say they are performing this on 30% of the unlucky travellers. As if air travel isn't grueling enough this is the final indignity we have to tolerate. Watch out especially for the female inspectors who seems to have a predisposition to single out the male travellers for this wonderful experience.

they did that to me in feb and june. in feb, i was stuck in sfo custom for over ninety minutes... they tried to open some of my protector files and completely jammed up my pda and when i got back to my office the tech guy told me that i can either pay over $300 to fix it or junk the pda. on my laptop fortunately i had "go back" and the tech guy just restore it back to three days ago and dump some stupid shit they put into my system.
im just going to bring a usb stick on my next trip and just get another system over there and load in my data via the usb. i think that i am going to just leave my laptop at home and just buy another one over there. i think these tsa is a bit too overzealous. just my pov.

IF you are indeed talking about Thailand then the answer is "suppose" to be yes, but in reality only some places enforce the testing rule. With bribes being very common everywhere in Asia, many gals can get any results they want from labs anyway regardless of rules.
Thats why it's important to protect yourselve all the time and not rely on any testing.

What recent events are making TSA wary of data coming from Shanghai? I just got back from Shanghai last week, port of entry SFO, with not a single problem. Zipped through like I always do (and this time I had a box of cuban cigars in my carry on luggage! hahaha).
I have never had a single bit of scrutiny. I have never observed at SFO any scrutiny of the Shanghai flight.
Here is all I've seen get you in trouble:
1) Declare more than your exemption in goods, or
2) Declare that you are carrying plants, food, etc.
If you dress like a businessman, carry the luggage of a businessman, comport yourself like you are on business (not on a sex vacation), I don't believe you'll be hassled.
If you dress like a hippy (sorry, the lingo of my generation, modify as appropriate), act shifty, pack like a pack mule, expect some scrutiny.
Just my opinion, your mileage may vary...

i went through sfo over 50 times (flown over 1.5 million miles, always flown business class) and never went through a search. most of the time they just waved me by with apathy. the few times that i chatted with the inspectors has always been extremely friendly.
nothing special this time either. all i will say for people who are naive enough to think that it could never happen to them, good luck:-) you only need to go through it once to really know the joy of what i described. some people think it must be something the victim did to warrant bad things that happened to them. maybe this gives them the false sense of security that if they just "looked professional" that they will be safe. i guess they are free to think that way.
however, the system is seriously flawed. my ex-girlfriend (a business executive with a valid visa) who visited me informed me that she was harassed almost everytime (the inspector looked at her lewdly and asked if he could date her and asked for her number) she went through sfo. i was surprised and indignant when she told me. now i know she spoke the truth. these inspectors do not have the qualifications of a police officer(who has to graduate from an academy) yet, they have more power in terms of seizing and searching your person and personal belongings. i believe that proper actions to protect us is valid, what i object to is the ongoing witch hunt that assumes any male traveller that return from japan, china or thailand is a ****. i just hope they apply the same zeal to preventing terrorists who wants to kill us from coming into this country.

Just went back to the Pub for the first time post their renovation and was pleasantly surprised. It's very clean and nicely decorated and the rooms have new carpet, sofas and paintwork, all in a sort of 'mid-market foot massage parlor' type of way, with dimmed light and (very appropriately) Louis Armstrong playing 'Wonderful World'. Met a very gregarious lass from the Northeast, a bit on the chunky side, but with all the benefits that go with that (i.e. a nice rack) who really knows what she's doing. It's kind of interesting how some girls really put so much effort into making sure you have a good time, in terms of their whole attitude and personality.

They've always had excuses to grill people more than is necessary. In former days they concentrated on "fiancés" coming into the West with tourist visas, body searching them and grilling them and finding excuses for refusing them entry. Get yourself a Gmail account (2 gigs worth of space) and download your pics into cyberland. When you get home, upload, and baboom: girlfriends: Hello!!
Of course, you do have to be rather selective with your photos, but I have gathered quite a nice little collection using this method and actually have so far 3 gmail accounts.

If you only want to avoid some overactive customs officers see the files, you don't have to go too deep into the details. But in the US they might out you nto jail until you reveal the password if they suspect something serious, I heard. So the double container comes in handy. Also if you have sensitive company data, it might be worth the effort. Just be reminded: If you even format your harddrive that does not mean that the data can't be recovered. Just deleting a file does only mean it is removed from the directory listing. the data is still there in full. Only encryption can solve that.
By the way, last night I had some trouble in China Customs not being allowed to carry some computer accessories. Had to leave them with customs and pick them up on the way back. Sometimes it is good to be reminded that only because things work 100 times does not necessarily mean ther is no trouble the 101st time.
That is one of the reasons why I don't like to fly from Hongkong to Shanghai directly. At the outer borders you can always choose to turn around.

I was over in Puxi last week and tried out a sauna that I don’t think has been reported here before.
It’s on the 15/F of Shanghai South Hotel ( 南部大酒店 pronounced Nanbu Da Jiudian) at 515 Longhua Xilu ( 龙华西路 ). The best way to get there is by taxi, probably about 10 RMB from the Shanghai sports stadium subway station.
At reception I was quoted 580 for full service, but I got it down to 500.
It’s not a big place, just a few showers and single pool for soaking. It was about 9pm and I had the whole place to myself. The guy in the shower area didn’t say a word, which was kind of nice since I am tired of the usual banter.
While I was nursing a glass of water in the waiting room, the mamasan came in. At first my tongue fell out because I thought she was the massage girl. Hottest mamasan I’ve ever met. Anyway, she asked me what kind of girl I like. I placed my usual order: low-fat with a side order of long hair.

if so, then no problemo what so ever.
However speaking SOME Chinese or having someone who speaks some chinese would make things go a lot lot smoother, and as a bonus Chinese girls quite like Hairy Chests from what I can work out.

just made a call to my link, they told me that last friday there were some minor raids conduct at the village on certain particular bbss that are known to have **** girls and also previous cases of std. they did this on a smaller scale basis in order not to alarm the whole business zone.

Well having been sitting in front of a BBS in the village on Fri-Mon nights I saw not much in the way of cops at all. All in all a very quiet weekend. The only busts were before 11 PM and they got some girls who the owners made sit outside because they didn't dare open shop. After 11 PM the cops hardly ever show up and with the love hotel in full swing, no danger in the village for the present time. Also the raids happen every year in the summer so it is normal to see them. In the winter, the cops are too lazy and can't be bothered so I speculate that by the end of Oct things will calm down.
The only worries are when the city decides an raid. When the local district cops have a raid they announce it to the owners ahead of time so there are no problems. Like I have said before, I have heard that cops own some of these places and as mentioned by AG awhile back many large KTV are by the police station for a reason.
To be honest the cops hate this and try to avoid having to do raids because they are too much of a hassle. They do once in a while have to show they are doing some work.

I know exactly what you mean. I might have a stable of girls but out of the 15-20 of them I stick with 3 that I love to pieces. They treat me like a king and I get all the fun I need. If you come from the east side of the city, get off Yan An on Jiang Su Lu and make a right (heading north). When you see a Pu Dong Development bank on your right, turn left (heading west) on that road and you will be on Xuan Hua Lu. The BBS is to your right.
If you are coming from Zhong Shang Park, head east down Chang Ning Lu, make a right (heading south) at the 4 Seasons Hotel on Ding Xi Lu and head down 200m. Make a left (heading east) on Xuan Hua Lu. The place is located on your left somewhere down the road.
Cost: 130 RMB
Environment: If it turns you on you can hear the girls next door moaning and sucking somebody else. They have these old recliners lined up like the foot massage places. A curtain is all that seperates each chair. I cannot imagine what it sounds like if the place is packed with people.

Just returned from Shanghai after spending about a week in the City. Gathered up the info on this site and decided to try these places. Even more than the various Saunas in Shanghai I like a particular 'Soapland-style' place in Puxi. The Chinese name is 'Ji Yuan Hui Suo' and it is at the intersection of 'Jiao Zhou' Lu and 'Chang Ping' Lu. Jiao Zhou road starts behind the Jing An temple and after 5 minutes taxi ride you cross Chang Ping road. Get out here, it is the corner building on the left side. It should be no problem to find it. The taxi drivers always smile at me in this special way when I show the card to them...
Upstairs at the reception, you get your key and there is nothing to discuss.
They speak only a little English but it really does not matter at all. As it is a Soapland, you do not take a shower but simply change to the usual pyjama. Then they bring you to a waiting room, if you come with larger parties you get your private room.
Waiting times can be pretty long - up to 1,5 hours - especially if you come on a weekday between 8 and 11 pm. Therefore, better go between 3 to 7 pm on a weekday or on the weekends where you normally just walk through and have the place for yourself.
When it is your turn, they bring you to a room and show you the line up.
If the place is not busy, you might have more than 20 girls to choose from and this is a really really difficult task as almost all of them are fantastic. I always prefer the tall slim ones and my favorite girls are number 5 and number 82, but the others are also great. As the place is focused on serving Japanese clients, the girls are all very pretty, friendly, clean, and have a great service attitude.
The girl of your choice will guide you to a room with a massage bed and shower facilities. In the shower, there is another bed and the girl will start by showering and massaging you gently. I will be in Shanghai at the end of the month and I am looking to book a hotel. I am struggling with the geography of Shanghai. All the maps that I can find refer to districts and most of the reports refer to roads. I am unsure which district the roads are in.
Can anyone help by answering the following questions:
1) Which area are the main saunas etc in ?
2) Which area is the best for bars / etc to pick up freelancers ?
3) Can anyone suggest a good hotel locate in that area ?
4) Does anyone have a link to a good map of shanghai identifying the above locations ?

I am in shanghai. was worried becasue of my group not leaving me alone, never. but when i came back to galaxy hotel i went up to my room just to stay aloen and think how to avoid my company and in teh elevetaro i noticed a slim yojgn typical chinese girl who got out at mny same floor.. strange... and then she smield at me and asked: massage? bingo!

Hi Summiteer,
It does depend on what you are willing to spend. You can stay at the Hilton or Equatorial (5 star and 4 star, respectively) and be a short walk to the Shanghai Hotel Sauna, the bars on Tong Ren Lu, the infamous Pub (search the forum), and a short taxi ride to the night spots on Heng Shan Lu (Bourbon Street, too many others to mention).
The Shanghai Hotel itself is, well, a hotel (I think 3 star). It is cheaper than the Equatorial, which is cheaper than the Hilton.
If you want to go economy, there are tons of Motel 168s, several in the Jing An area. You could also try the Green Tree Inn, which is another budget hotel. Most folks here who go budget seem to go Motel 168.
Keep in mind that taxis are cheap, and anywhere you stay in Puxi is probably not going to be too far from something interesting. Personally, I like the Jing An district, and have no problem recommending the Equatorial or Hilton.

I know the will be dismissed as a gullible young (although I am 30 already) good hearted guy deceived by the professionals. Given this, I do feel wanted to help this girl. She obviously hesitated a long while and agreed. We agreed 9 PM, and she showed up at 8: 30pm. She told me, very upfront, she came out because the biz is not good these a few days and she thinks I am a secure way of incoming. To do this, she has to ask for a "vacation" from her boss for a few hours since there is not much biz anyway. I was shocked by her total honest, when you see the eyes, you see the truth. Together with my previous experience, I felt something special about the girl. I wanted to talk to her rather than fuck her, also to know how it is like to be a professional in shanghai, like spending money to read a book I probably could never read otherwise. I am not tight on money anyway. I asked how long she would like to stay, and I made it clear before she came I had no problem paying for the night, and not prepared to negotiate reasonable price. She only wanted a quick session and 400 RMB. I insisted to have a night, and she very reluctantly agreed, but said it would be expensive. I asked how much, she said 1500RMB. And she also said if it is case, she had to call back to her boss to report after her vacation she met a regular for the night. I know it is high, but I figure, the normal price for her organization is 1200RMB from 12am on. She came at 9ish, it is not that unfair. And did not argue.
As I was still writting my report, she chatted with me for a while, what a talker, talking about her various interesting stories (not her professional stories), totally a naive childish girl. Then we took a walk outside, and come back, did the usual. Then we started to talk, and this is what shocked me.
She was born in poor family, quitted school after junior high, and did several years of farm work, then got married. Her husband, which she is still married to, and have a 2 years old baby with, did small biz, and lost money, not much about 40-50k RMB, but this is a lot for a farm family. They had no way out, and she wanted (not her huz) to come out to earn money to pay the debt back. And she previously worked in Jiaxing Zhejiang, then moved to shanghai only a month ago. We spent about 3 hours talking, she told her stories, childhood stories, stories with husband, with in-laws, neighbors. How she loves her huz, how her huz loves her. What shocked me most is how she kept such a high spirit all the time, did not sound like a girl who is suffering, but rather full of hope, once she earned the money to pay back the debt, she would then open a small fashion shop so that her family could live happy afterwords. She told me how she did not know how to trick customer to pay more money, how she wants to treat nicely of everyone, including customers, how she deals with rude customers. How she felt down sometime, and how she always looks at hope and upholds a nice spirit to spend the life with. I talked a little about my sex problem with my gf, and she talked how she enjoyed sex with husband, and how I could ease my problem. It went on and one, but at the end of day, what you see and hear is a nice, dignit lady, who tries her best to earn back her future life. During the entire process, she never ever hinted wanted my help or even one extra penny in anyway, although obviously I am pretty rich and generous. It is so strong that I am even afraid of offering money to her. I only suggested that if she could get receipt for dinner, I can get reimbursement from my company, and give the money to her (I can totally give her about 200 dollars). And she thought a little bit, and said she did not know where to get the receipt and never mentioned it. (btw, she earns about 10kRMB a months by doing this and another day time normal job which earns about 1200RMB per month), but since she only does in-call, she has to rent an apartment which costs her 3000 RMB a months. So she could save about 6k RMB a month. What she gets from customers have to half-half share with her boss. But her boss takes care of customers and provides some protection (not a lot). I asked her if she felt unfair, she says, this is done at will, so nothing to complain about. Now, she wakes up, I offered to buy her breakfast in fancy western rest, and looks like she would refuse it.
Now, I would just stop, and wait for judgement from your guys. Well it might be she tricked me into my heart, but I don't think I am so naive to trick, nor she could make up that three hours story, and talked in such high spirit way.
I do want to help, of course not in a crazy way. I set aside a grand for this trip, and I don't feel lost anything if I could somehow use this to help her.
End of story. And supprisingly taught me a lession of life.

Upstairs at the reception, you get your key and there is nothing to discuss.
They speak only a little English but it really does not matter at all. As it is a Soapland, you do not take a shower but simply change to the usual pyjama. Then they bring you to a waiting room, if you come with larger parties you get your private room.If I got you right, unlike most saunas, you don't have to parade naked with other men. You just go from reception to a change room where you change in pijama and then go to a waiting room waiting for your turn.
Also does it only open at 3 pm? or is it opened before?

To be honest, your story was touching and it is nice that you care about the well being of the girl your with. Since I work with many of these girls on a daily basis, I have seen and heard almost every truth and heard about the hell that is their lives. You only got to hear the tip of the iceburg. One of the main reasons I do what I do is to try and help the girls have a better life. Even gave a money management lesson to them. I won't share in detail the things I have heard because it would make any decent mans blood boil. Sometimes ignorance or not knowing will make your life a lot better. I have had a couple of clients insist on telling them the story of the girl they were just with and after I did, they had a hard time coping with their morals for awhile. So my advice is be nice to the girls and take what they tell you with a grain of salt. Be an attentive listener because sometimes they don't have anyone to talk to. DO NOT get involved though and try to be a knight in shining armour because her man and his friends plus the boss will be paying you a visit if you try to take away their money tree. I have done it a couple of times but with great pains and the support of the boss who hated their boy friends or husbands anyways. For a normal joe that doesn't know China though, settle for being happy and enjoying the moment. Just my 2 cents. If you want to be a hero, think twice because how many can you save.

Hi All, I am looking for some advice from more experienced members. I have checked the forum and not really found what I was looking for, although this does not mean that it is not there.
I will be in Shanghai at the end of the month and I am looking to book a hotel. I am struggling with the geography of Shanghai. All the maps that I can find refer to districts and most of the reports refer to roads. I am unsure which district the roads are in.
Can anyone help by answering the following questions:
1) Which area are the main saunas etc in ?
2) Which area is the best for bars / etc to pick up freelancers ?
3) Can anyone suggest a good hotel locate in that area ?
4) Does anyone have a link to a good map of shanghai identifying the above locations ?

I expected the friendly cautions fellow ISG member will kindly give out, and I certain is not a fool to believe eveything. When I said I wanted to help, I by no means wanted to give her 10 grands or such silly things. As I said, I set aside a grand for this trip, of which I have spent half. I don't mind where the rest goes to.
What supprised me was not the story itself, but how she told the story, and how her eyes look when she told the story. I am not 20 years old kid out of school after all. If someone could deceives that well, I would just relive my entire life or she would be an oscar winner. It is hard for me to believe she made up these stories, also she only told these stories when I insisted, otherwise, she was totally prepared to sleep after the sex. Particularly, how she talks about the feeling she has for her huz, and appreciating what her huz does to him. How she envisions good life ahead, and complains about stuff like her in-laws not liking her. She showed me her daughter's pic in her cell. I can't think of any motivation of anyone who has any purpose or wants money from me, would make up such a story and talk about love between her and her huz. Maybe I am just too old-school. She told the story totally not as a sad story, but rather a story in her life, and she still enjoys the life no matter what, as she has hope, and the hope is IN HER HAND.
She knows I would be out of country next Monday. And I made it very clear that if she wants, she could come back anytime, and I don't care that much for the money. But she did not contact me today at all. When she was coming to my hotel, she got lost and called me, I asked her to take a taxi, and I would pay for it. When she knew it would be less then ten minutes of walk, she insisted on walking. She actually walked for about twenty minutes from bus station to my hotel. As I said, I did not judge the person from the story, but rather from small details.
For the housing, she just came there for a month, taking over from a friend who left. She said she was filling in only, and did not know a bit of shanghai. To be honest, I also double why she needs a two bedroom aparment.
Her math adds up like this, she takes about 4-5 a day, each one gives on average 400-500. She takes half or probably more a little. And she works for about 15-18 days a month so far in the last month. That probably adds up to 10k RMB a month. The next morning, I gave money to her, she did not even count, and I assure you she did not see where I took the money from and how much I counted it.
I certainly won't go out of my way to help her, but just wonder if there is anything reasonable that I could do.
As Draong D pointed out, I might not want to hear the real story, but I guess I still do. I have a gf who is lovely, and probably equally nice if not more, and I certain does not have any "feeling" for her. I guess what I care about this girl is more out of a respect rather than pity. I did not even touch her last night after the story although my jet lag still did not allow me to fully sleep for a minute. What I respect is how she could keep such open-mind and high spirit and enjoy the life still after being cornered.
I will now shut my mouth, hopefully not sounding like an old lady already or a total fool

I have been to where she stays, and it is a two bedroom apartment. she took over from a friend who just left (as she told me). it is in a decent residential area. why she needs such a large room? I don't know, but as i said she just came to this city and essentially knows noone.
for how much boss got. she is not a bar girl, but rather like an organized prosti group. the boss takes care of looking for customer and just dispatches to the girls. and boss provides some protection in case of .. plus she is new, I guess that is why the overhead is so high. I've been mongering since 1985 when my first "leave" was in the PI and that experience started/changed my life. By easily meeting and doing all sorts of types of women from many backgrounds, for play or pay, I've heard 100's of stories.
As most of us mongerers have heard these same stories. But speaking for most of the mongers, after the first 5-10 stories, we become hardened to them as they all start sounding the same with some unique and respectable twists like Pinastar heard.

I've seen enough these working girls double- or triple-dipping all the time. It's very much the same way we guys do among girl friends, wives, mistresses, and pros. Believe me, some scenes are just not pretty when anyone of them drops the ball. Given a chance, girls would not hesitate to pocket more easy $$. First of all, they are in the business to deal with and be surrounded by men of all walks. I just don't think we are that much different from those others who also put theirs in her butt. A little more extra $$ can upgrade the service and attitude, but normally not much else. Pinaster's girl has shown too many doubtful accounts of her story. I am not saying she is just such a gold-digger. But I'd rather say she might be such a gem. Most of these vulnerable-looking Chinese babes are/were indeed tough survivors in harsh Chinese rural/urban life. They often get tougher when they come to big cities like Shanghai.

200 years ago, Shanghai was nothing but a small fishing village. Restaurants, hotels, gambling casinos, and, of course, brothels had been established along the canals in Shanghai for hundreds of years before. Thanks to Opium War and many others that followed, Russians, English, French, German, Jewish refugees, Japanese, American, and all others poured in the place thereafter. The mongering things were never the same any more. The variety was abundant very much in the same way all Chinese girls from all over China rushing to Shanghai these days.
Mongering experience is not a trap and should not be. Don't get me wrong, AP. I was just trying to point out some basics of my observation and render a piece of advice and opinion to Pinaster. It does depend on what you are willing to spend. You can stay at the Hilton or Equatorial (5 star and 4 star, respectively) and be a short walk to the Shanghai Hotel Sauna, the bars on Tong Ren Lu, the infamous Pub (search the forum), and a short taxi ride to the night spots on Heng Shan Lu (Bourbon Street, too many others to mention).
The Shanghai Hotel itself is, well, a hotel (I think 3 star). It is cheaper than the Equatorial, which is cheaper than the Hilton.
If you want to go economy, there are tons of Motel 168s, several in the Jing An area. You could also try the Green Tree Inn, which is another budget hotel. Most folks here who go budget seem to go Motel 168.
Keep in mind that taxis are cheap, and anywhere you stay in Puxi is probably not going to be too far from something interesting. Personally, I like the Jing An district, and have no problem recommending the Equatorial or Hilton.

Even more than the various Saunas in Shanghai I like a particular 'Soapland-style' place in Puxi. The Chinese name is 'Ji Yuan Hui Suo' and it is at the intersection of 'Jiao Zhou' Lu and 'Chang Ping' Lu. Jiao Zhou road starts behind the Jing An temple and after 5 minutes taxi ride you cross Chang Ping road. Get out here, it is the corner building on the left side. It should be no problem to find it. The taxi drivers always smile at me in this special way when I show the card to them.

I don't think for a second that you are a fool... it has nothing to do with the money, but every once in awhile you will find a woman who has the right chemistry that you want and you start to get feelings again. After years of playing I have seen it all and well sometimes I am hardened I am also an old softy at heart. I have in China been through a couple of hundred girls in the 4 years I have been here and only 4 have made it into the freebie/mistress category. To be honest with all the sorry excuse for men the girls meet, a genuine guy who cares can let them bring down the wall and open the door to you. You actually got to hear in my opinion a genuine life story which will change how you see things in the future. Good on you for telling your story about the girl you met who was married and doing this work to earn back the money her family has lost.
Unfortunately I think this is a very common story amongst providers. Every girl I have ever been with has either been trying to get herself to university, or to provide for her family, and if given a choice they would be earning money some other way.
All we can do is treat these girls with respect, and pay the fair going rate but don't underpay.
I must say I sometimes feel something for these girls but it is also important to be on very close guard, so that if you do help out in an additional way that is to some end benefit. Not only are some stories a con (I do not doubt for a second that Pinstar’s girl is genuine), but also some of these girls have no idea how to manage money for the long term and are likely to throw it away.
A better option is to become their regular, so that they have a more stable cashflow and hopefully have to see fewer other customers (although unlikely), however in this case it is important not to lose your heart.
I do think that hearing their stories is sometimes interesting. When I first arrived in Shanghai I purposely went to a HJ only BBS to chat (ok I also got my HJ of course!), for two reasons: to practice my spoken Chinese and to understand people’s lives in this country better. My Chinese would not be as good as it is now if I had not spent hours chatting in a BBS instead of in my apartment alone watching DVD’s. It also worked two ways, in that I hopefully taught some of these girls not to look at all foreigners just as a walking ATM. A recent one in particular just could not understand why it was an issue for me to hand over an extra RMB100, she was truly shocked to hear that there was a time in my life when I had no money, and I have had to work hard for what I have. Now that she has understood that I earned what I have and she must do the same, I get better service from her and she is opening up to learning more.
At the end of the day there is the good and the bad in life, by talking to these girls and engaging in this activity I think my life is richer than when I wasn't, and if all else I am helping someone earn an income.

I don't think for a second that you are a fool... it has nothing to do with the money, but every once in awhile you will find a woman who has the right chemistry that you want and you start to get feelings again. After years of playing I have seen it all and well sometimes I am hardened I am also an old softy at heart. I have been to the Shanghai Hotel quite a few times.
Some visits have been great and sometimes it was just bad, depending on the girl and her skills + mood.
I am sticking now with one particular girl there (Midy, no. 28) where I know the service is really good.

The only remaining thing that could cause any family to be in a hardship situation is sickness in the family. This is because the medical community in China is very corrupt. It is the accepted norm for surgeons to be given bribes(red packet) to do their jobs correctly. I know that if I have any type of medical issues is to hightail it out of China and go to Thailand.
I know a KTV girl from one of the most well known and expensive KTV in Shanghai who told me her story, let's call her Miss.B. Well, Miss.B is only 21 years old and speaks English quite well because she went to a neighboring country for her College education. Miss.B has a father who has Brain cancer in the early stages. This is a true fact and he stays in a hospital. Well, Miss.B has a friend that hatched up a scam to use her father's illness for getting some sucker to pay them some serious money. This sucker turns out to be a very wealthy middle aged foreign physician that Miss.B's friend knew. Miss.B pretends to be a college student who has to work hard to make money for her father's illness and gets the sucker to pay them 30k(USD). I nearly spit up my coffee(that I was drinking) when I heard the amount they got. Well, the kicker is that she takes her share of the money 15k, and use it to buy expensive handbags and clothes, everything except medical care for her father. In fact she wants her father to get worse probably so she could have a more heart wrenching story for another sucker. What amazes me also was the utter contempt she had for this "benefactor" who has given her so much money. She thinks he is an idiot and rejects any physical advance he makes towards her.
This is only one out of a dozen stories I heard. However, a year ago I was personally offered the opportunity to donate 20k(USD) for a Liver transplant for a Chongqing KTV girl's father. Of course, I declined since I have not taken a "Stupid" pill recently.

I went in the massage place in 3rd floor. No introduction, no price etc. Was led to change clothes (boys looking at you). Taking shower, sit in waiting room. A lady comes in and ask if I wanted massage, and I said what else I would come here for. Then she said ok, the massage, and I asked what kind do they have. She said they have foot massage and massage, and I asked what else did they have, then a little bit strange pause, then I said ok massage.
I was then led to a dark room, a girl is waiting already. Does not seem to me that you can choose. But this lady is not bad looking, and it is pretty late. I asked again what is included and the price. She said it includes everything, price is 8xx before discount 680 after discount.
Then she started massage, but a pretty good talker, sounds nice. Then BBBJ, ice and fire (and mine shrinks once touches the ice), and the real story. The room is a small room without any special equipment. There are handle rails on roof, but my girl did not use them at all. The girl is 23 years old, slim body, ok breast, not bad, but would not recommend either.
There is nothing special to report. Massage is so so. I don't feel particularly relaxed. Sex is so so, just the girl is pretty good at making noises. And we had a little talk to finish up the time. One guy in Manhatten suggested going to Windows. It's an interesting place and gets really packed by 2 am. Directions to Windows: When you come out of Manhatten on Tong Ren Lu, go right. Then take first left, then first right and then first left again. You will see Windows on your left. It's about 10 minutes walk from Manhatten. Here you may find pros and freebies both. All ages.
Met 2 French guys outside Windows and with them went to babyface, Armani, Mint, and VIP. Nothing but bunch of drunk teenagers dancing with music so loud that you can feel the sound waves hitting your body. We came back to Windows.
Finally went to a KTV called WOW club. Same old story- tip mama san, tip the girl, tip the cleaner, tip the taxi driver, eat this eat that and listen the girl singing and asking you to sing. Needless to say that the girl will order everything she can on the menu. Bill was 2100 RMB for 2 hours but atleast got one stunning girl from Hunan. Got her number, tipped mama san and exchanged phone number for that 'afternoon massage'. Will see.
Next day went to Pudong international airport by Meglev running at 430 KM/hr and changed my flight back to Beijing asap. Still have 3 more nights in Shanghai. I guess I will be at Windows. Any other ideas welcome.

What even surprises me some more,Is that he "the stupid doctor"did not get some serious payback to that KTV girl.I have a related case,I am familiar with in Zhuhai.Where a Portugese friend of mine was scammed by a girl out of 50,000 Patacas or roughly 51,000 RMB.He went to our common friend in the Party and the girl after a 10,000 RMB donation to the PSB was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in jail.Her life was finished and another less KTV girl is hardly a loss to China.During the trial,the girl was begging to be his personal sex slave for free for him to drop the charges.Occasionaly you have to hit back to keep these girls on their toes.Even up to now,When he mongers in Zhuhai,They are careful of him because they know he has sent a girl to be a guest of the state for 20 years

Its either you are struck with the worst luck in the world or you are not trying hard enough.
All the places you mentioned are high hit rate places. Although I must agree for a newbie in Tong Ren Lu, the girls will try to scam you as much as possible. However I had my first freebie from Tong Ren Lu on my first trip there. No secret formula or special skills required or lots of money needed to bring a girl home for free. Bourbon street and Park 97, is the place to be for Freebies, Pros, Semi-Pros, and seekers with lonely heart (looking for BF). I lost counts of how many girls (both Pros and Freebies) I had picked up from these places already.
Windows is a cheapstake bar, they sell fake liquor and twice reported before the police had brought two regular pros there in (because of a fights), turn up after some tests that they are both HIV positive. All the girls or local people in Shanghai know that that is a place for Junior local working class or for Cheap Laowais. So if you want to associate yourself as that group of people plus have the risk of been expose to HIV; its your choice.

Word of Advise; South China and North East China are far more dangerous place. The people kill over 100RMB. I should say your friend are lucky for hitting even on a less connected girl. Many girls in this trade are some how connected and they will hit back if they want to.
Shanghai, are very "tame" the people here like to speak loud and argue but they will not go into fights. And will have lower possiblities to hit back. However: more than 10% of the Shanghai population are from the South and more than 3% of the population are from the North East China. So..... it always good to have an escape plan!

Totally agree - once you find someone good - stay with her until you get sick of her. Of course the problem may become - how to i get rid of her? I think some girls think you are their boy friend if you do them more than twice.
As for language - also agree. After living in korea where there is zip english and my korean is not very good - it actually got boring after a while. The talking add spice to the whole experience - of course sometimes all you want is a bonk - talking is unnecessary in those cases.

Checked out the second floor sauna at the Shanghai hotel. The famous 4772 post gives very comprehensive instructions, so all I would add is if you don't want a service, say so. They seem to have got good at assuming all laowai would want the works. I was surprised to find a few members of staff with a functional smattering of English. My total cost was something over 900RMB, but for probably one of the top 3 massage experiences of my flight with a very cute 8 from Hunan province. If you are in town, go.
Another night I was lazy and checked out the sauna in the Holiday Inn downtown. Very quiet was the first warning sign. Part way through a 200RMB oil massage I was offered the 'special massage' for another 1200. Even beer and xiao di di were not strong enough to overcome that sort of price. I declined which brough the oil massage to a conclusion about 3 minutes later. Lesson learnt.

Hi there. After two years of forced abstinence in the US, Nightwing is back for good in China. I've not found it to be a problem at Shanghai Hotel. You can get away mostly with gestures there anyway. If you follow the detailed directions in post #4772, you'll at least know what's coming next.
If you only want a HJ, probably you should ask for a special foot massage. I'm sure AG or someone can offer up the proper Zhongwei for that. If you get the special foot massage, usually the "special" part is a HJ, not more.
If you are near the Shanghai Hotel, you can go to the foot massage place across the street from the nearby Hilton (very well lit, large and obvious on HuaShan Lu). They do a "special" foot massage, and as far as I know do not offer full service.

The only remaining thing that could cause any family to be in a hardship situation is sickness in the family. This is because the medical community in China is very corrupt. It is the accepted norm for surgeons to be given bribes(red packet) to do their jobs correctly. I know that if I have any type of medical issues is to hightail it out of China and go to Thailand.
I know a KTV girl from one of the most well known and expensive KTV in Shanghai who told me her story, let's call her Miss.B. Well, Miss.B is only 21 years old and speaks English quite well because she went to a neighboring country for her College education. Miss.B has a father who has Brain cancer in the early stages. This is a true fact and he stays in a hospital. Well, Miss.B has a friend that hatched up a scam to use her father's illness for getting some sucker to pay them some serious money. This sucker turns out to be a very wealthy middle aged foreign physician that Miss.B's friend knew. Miss.B pretends to be a college student who has to work hard to make money for her father's illness and gets the sucker to pay them 30k(USD). I nearly spit up my coffee(that I was drinking) when I heard the amount they got. Well, the kicker is that she takes her share of the money 15k, and use it to buy expensive handbags and clothes, everything except medical care for her father. In fact she wants her father to get worse probably so she could have a more heart wrenching story for another sucker. What amazes me also was the utter contempt she had for this "benefactor" who has given her so much money. She thinks he is an idiot and rejects any physical advance he makes towards her.
This is only one out of a dozen stories I heard. However, a year ago I was personally offered the opportunity to donate 20k(USD) for a Liver transplant for a Chongqing KTV girl's father. Of course, I declined since I have not taken a "Stupid" pill recently.
Have I been taken before? Sure, if I had to do it over again. I would just stick with the BBS girls and go with the pay per pop plan:-) and leave the "save the fallen/hardship women of China" for another enlightened person.
I know this does not answer the general question, but as for this type of story, I have but one point to focus on, since when has surgery in China gone up to 30K USD? Would the amount itself be a tip off to a rip off? Besides, rule of thumb on charity work even back in the States boys, make sure you know where your money goes. Dont give the girl the money, if you really want to help, offer to take her dad to the hospital and pay the hospital for the surgery. Besides, if she is genuine about it, she might be so grateful to you that she'd fuck you for weeks while this whole thing is going down.
Also same rule applies to street beggars. The mangled kids on the streets wont get to keep the cash because they got a street boss they have to fork it over to or get beaten, but if you give them a big mac, they will eat it quite happily.

I got a small room at the City Hotel for 740rmb. The beds were so small I could not sleep. I changed to the new Grand Pacific LBO, a serviced apartment, for the same price I got 2 rooms, one with a desk and seating and a second with a king bed. The LBO rents the top floors (there are actually 3 hotels in this building). There are no GF problems, because you really check in at 2905, so the lobby people really have no control over you.
The hotel is on the corner of Shanxi Bei and Nanjing Xi lu in the golden eagle building. Prime location!

I have come back to US. story has many interpretations, and I don't want to argue about any of them. She only came the last two nights I was in shanghai (the weekends), asked me to pay the same amount of the first night, which was 1500rmb.
When she came in the two nights, she brought some fruits, she would just talk to me for about 3 hours (she came at about 11:30pm), about everything in her life, in the past or at present (but she seldom talked about her debt anymore), happy stories and sad stories, a bit here, a bit there as her memory jumped around, then we would do the action, and she would still talk for about an hour until we both were exhausted and felt to sleep at like 4:30-5 am. She would got up next morning at 8:30 and leave, saying she has to deposit money to her boss's account before 9:30am. She told me she would go back after half year, hopefully can have by then enough to pay back the debt and use the rest to open a skin care shop in her small town (and one can image how rich her boss would be, having more than a dozen of girls, pretty much richer than anyone who has ever heard of ISG). and we even had chat about how feasible that was, how to attract customers. I told her that she was intellegent, warm-hearted, and pretty, if she only had opportunity, she would live a much better life. Her first reaction was if she becomes successful, she would have problem with her husband, if that was the case, she would rather just live a modest life happily with her husband and daughter.

In the last text message she sent to me, after I have left for airport, she said she wanted to thank me, and she did not know if we could meet again in the future, but she hoped so, and hoping next time, we could be as pure friends but not as present "situation". I need to say here that I told her the first night I did not even know if I would be able to come back anytime soon.
this concluded my mongering trip to Shanghai, and what happened was totally beyond my expectation.
I also paid a visit to the famous shanghai hotel. I would have to say, the service is superior. catering for the customer in every detailed ways, and skills are excellent. They pretty much assuming everyone visiting there is for the sex, and you don't really need to ask. I chose number 68, a little fat, but very enjoyable experience. the red rope thing is just amazing, if you haven't seen it, you got to see it. such a personal private performance itself is well worth the cost. I paid 650 RMB in the afternoon, for an hour of action.
Still, God created both heart and dick in us, and I am thankful that he did so.

I visited this place today and it was fun. Definitely a soapland experience. Had number 56 (tallest girl in the place) but she would not do BBBJ (same for the girl that my colleague had #99). Maybe a new rule or just bad luck. Same price and experience otherwise as quoted below.

Even more than the various Saunas in Shanghai I like a particular 'Soapland-style' place in Puxi. The Chinese name is 'Ji Yuan Hui Suo' and it is at the intersection of 'Jiao Zhou' Lu and 'Chang Ping' Lu. Jiao Zhou road starts behind the Jing An temple and after 5 minutes taxi ride you cross Chang Ping road. Get out here, it is the corner building on the left side. It should be no problem to find it. The taxi drivers always smile at me in this special way when I show the card to them...
Upstairs at the reception, you get your key and there is nothing to discuss.
They speak only a little English but it really does not matter at all. As it is a Soapland, you do not take a shower but simply change to the usual pyjama. Then they bring you to a waiting room, if you come with larger parties you get your private room.
Waiting times can be pretty long - up to 1,5 hours - especially if you come on a weekday between 8 and 11 pm. Therefore, better go between 3 to 7 pm on a weekday or on the weekends where you normally just walk through and have the place for yourself.
When it is your turn, they bring you to a room and show you the line up.
If the place is not busy, you might have more than 20 girls to choose from and this is a really really difficult task as almost all of them are fantastic. I always prefer the tall slim ones and my favorite girls are number 5 and number 82, but the others are also great. As the place is focused on serving Japanese clients, the girls are all very pretty, friendly, clean, and have a great service attitude.
The girl of your choice will guide you to a room with a massage bed and shower facilities. In the shower, there is another bed and the girl will start by showering and massaging you gently. Then, you can relax on the bed while she lubes herself up with soap and starts sliding all over you using the different parts of her body to stimulate you. If I compare this place to saunas like the Shanghai Hotel, I really prefer this one as the line up and the service attitude is usually much better. I recommend to try the showering experience at least once but then you might want to consider to skip the extras and go for the real thing immediately.

First of all, its great to host one of the Chief monger Old Asia Hand who was in town for a couple of days especially today in which we really appreciate him in coming out with us even though he has a freebie back in his hotel!!!!

First, I want to say that the gang in Shanghai have been great hosts!

It is on Wuzhohg Road toward the outskirt of town. Coming from the city on Wuzhong Rd, you will pass Hong Xu Rd and keep on going till you get to the intersection with A-20 freeway and continue on Wuzhong Rd for another block or so. Turn right when you see the "arch" of civilization. Several BBS on Wuzhong Rd before hitting A-20 also offer FS, but they normally charge RMB200, but not need to worry about the raid. Also, some of them have better condition than Da Village. Hope this helps.

Firstly, I concur totally with Dragon's comments, there are many of these scammers that work on these simple minded girls and eventually get them to make money for them. I think it might be good to keep track on her development and guide her back to the right path if she has been misled.
I think the reason why she has given her first time to you is because in her whole life up to the time she met you, no one has treated her so well and you have been so thoughtful to choose the gift that she has been eyeing for a long time as a birthday present for her. Both the thought and the gift means a lot to her, hence she felt that it is the best way to return your kindness. I am just posting to get some opinions:
Introduction:
There is this Foot Massage girl that I had been seeing at this Korean Foot Massage place in the last 2 months, (member "Wooo", "Round Two" and "Blacklisted" like to know who I am talking about). Hmm... come to think of it; 1346, you could be right, I was with Mock A Bee this afternoon checking out the Ji Yuan Sauna (Another report on this later), I told him the story (he had not read this post yet) and guess what? Even more than the various Saunas in Shanghai I like a particular 'Soapland-style' place in Puxi. The Chinese name is 'Ji Yuan Hui Suo' and it is at the intersection of 'Jiao Zhou' Lu and 'Chang Ping' Lu. Jiao Zhou road starts behind the Jing An temple and after 5 minutes taxi ride you cross Chang Ping road. Get out here, it is the corner building on the left side. It should be no problem to find it. The taxi drivers always smile at me in this special way when I show the card to them...
Price for one hour: 760 RMB - I did not try anything else and I don't know what other 'packages' are available.

MAB and I checked out this place this afternoon.
This is the first Sauna that I been in Shanghai that has lockers in the VIP room (where they do foot massage). Normally the lockers are in a separate lockers room.

For those who had met me in person would know that I am a very open person who is always willing to listern and learn from other experience and opinion.
As for now I will monitor the situation and see how it goes; to be frank from the start I am not too keen on developing a relationship with her mainly is because, my first kid, daugther, is as old as this foot massage girl!

I always go to Guangdong for business, and this was my 1st visit to Shanghai, arriving on a Sunday afternoon (I'm not sure if Sunday evening the best or worse time to be looking for action).
First, some interesting differences I immediately notice about GuangDong vs Shanghai:
- Most Shanghai people actually wait for the crosswalk light to turn in Green, but in Guangdong people seem to cross as they want (most of the time; like that "Frogger" video game.
- People in Shanghai are much taller and bigger, including the women.
- There are a LOT more foriegners and ex-pats here, at least from what I've seen in Jing'An, and it's easy to find a local chinese who can speak some level of English (even taxi drivers).
My hotel is located in PuXi/Jing'An(?), very near to the streets of ShaanXi & Nanjing.
I left my hotel to wander and get familiar with what is around me closely, and found a place called "Big Bamboo" (I think it's behind the Shanghai Center). 20 RMB for Tiger beer which was better than 40/50 RMB beer prices that I had heard about in Shanghai. The place is expat and had a few local girls there, but I think there's isn't any kind of real girl action happening at this place that I could see.
I wandered more, got into a taxi and said to take me to a bar street. he dropped me off on Hengshan Lu.
I walked into a place called "Sasha" which seemed like some kind of salsa-dance nightclub. It was FULL of people (about 60% women, 40% men; including many ex-pats). Maybe there are some local singles looking for a dance date... but I hate dancing, so I left and went back to my hotel to do some business things.
About Midnight ( of Sunday night & Monday morning), I taxi'ed to Hengshan Lu again just to see what was happening. I was approached a few times by a couple of women who offerered to me their massage and make-love service that I declined.
Near here (it might be still on Hengshan Lu?), I found a strip of bars/pubs that had some chinese waitresses hanging out as if waiting for customers, and they were all happy to greet me and welcome me into their bars, but I didn't think there was much for real action with these girls. So I accept, kind of wondering if 1 of these girls is interested in coming to my hotel !(??). As I drink that last beer I realize it's not 3:15am and that I need to work in the morning, so I decided to not pursue these girls (they were about '5' on the 1..10 scale). So, I finished that beer and all of us left at 3:30am; they going their way, me going my way. Zaijian.

Here's something to ponder: we all go on the premise that these girls are "simple country girls". Well, consider the opposite - that, like most women on the planet, they are intuitive, sharp as tacks, and really "know the scoop".
I would wager that most of these simple women are very very smart about guys lke us, and can smell us from a mile away.
Here's what I suspect: she knew from the start you were 1) a player, and 2) nice, but not her soul mate. She knew she could take her time with you, because you came every night.
She also knew that you would probably be gentle with her, and she spent plenty of time with you to find that out. You are a kind man, even us mongers know that, but she, being the superior being, knew that from the start.
I suspect she knew from the start that even if you married her, she would not be the only woman in your life. Your prices are about right for Shanghai. And you probably did the right thing with that girl.
Sunday is not a great night anywhere in Shanghai as far as I have seen. If you are looking for a rocking good time, try Zapatas on Wednesday night. If you are looking for cuddling with chat girls, go to TongRen Lu bars. If you are looking for typical nightclub scene, try Park 97 and a zillion others, but not on Sunday night. If you are looking for a western ex pat, older crowd, try Malones.

I look forward to seeing you on one of my regular jaunts to Shanghai. I only have one experience in Beijing, but from that experience I much prefer Shanghai. I never consider it polluted - hazy yes, (and maybe this is my California training) but I think it is more water (haze) than pollution.

It is a pity you don't want to try their famous sauna.
For alternatives in the area I think you should make some exercise and RTFF. You will find a world of information, starting from famous post #4772 from David Xyzzy 1 in RoD to some recent posts from him.
Other than this I can suggest you:
a) to stroll in front of Hilton, which is just around the corner from Shanghai Hotel, and search for street girls;
b) to try bars in Julu Lu, which is almost in front of Hilton;
c) to try big massage place in front of Hilton, in case you are up just for HJ;
d) to move north to Tongren Lu bars strip, intersection with Yanan Lu;
e) to move farther north to Malone's or the Pub;
f) to move south to Zapata's and other venues in Hengshan Lu;

I stopped by what seems to be new expat like place just opening. I think the name is TIME OUT bar. I don't know the evening action but it seems geared toward the lao-wai crowd and is fairly big, clean, new. Location is just 1/2 KM south of Bamboo bar (www.bamboobar.cn).
More notes about Bamboo. I like that the beer is 20 RMB for .5 liter, fairly cheap for Shanghai inter-city standards.
At Bamboo, there is a 2/f bar area. I saw 3 Filipina girls hanging out in the early evening. WTF, Filipina in China???? I didn't talk with them, but one was making goo-goo-lovey eye contact with me. The prettiest one had her back turned to me, so I could only get Eye-to-bum contact going, and her "spidey sense" was not active to detect that.

From earlier reports a lot of the bars on the side streets around Hengshan Lu are rip-off bars, so you were wise not going in.
Didn't realise there were Filipinas in Big Bamboo. Have seen a lot of them on Maoming and Tongren - I guess they are spreading out.
Maoming Lu is also an option for bars, although half of them have been closed down so this strip of bars is now half what it was. The original Judy's is still fun on a Friday or Saturday night, with a mix of local freebies for pickup or short Filipina dancing girls (not your preference though it seems!). Further north from Judys there are a couple of bars with local crowds were freebie pickups are also possible.
Mint is also good on a Wednesday night (north Tongren, on corner with Beijing Lu). If you just want somewhere with lots of people on any night, there is the very low end Windows bar opposite Jing'An temple. Be warned though - it is a S%&thole cheapskate bar and talent or lack of is very variable!

I would tend to agree that a PI girl will have a much better interaction with a non-Chinese speaking westerner. In terms of hygiene, she could be right, but this is probably more variable. I know spotless Chinese women, and have met some that are less so. I've also had a couple of less than spotless PI chicks in Shanghai.
But for the most part, the PI girls are very affectionate, generally more so than the Chinese girls, particularly in public. Behind closed doors, again, depends on the individual. I'd have to say my best PI girl was pretty darn close to equal to my best Chinese girl.
PI girls do shave more than Chinese girls.
I like both kinds of girl. I'll take two of each, please!

Last night I went to Tong Ren Lu, a sort of bar street area, but very small and compact.
To be honest, I was already VERY tired and should have just gone to my hotel to get a good needed sleep, but like a dumb ass I tried to explore and and make the most of my few days in Shanghai.
Blue Frog. A really cute waitress there, about 18yo, chatted with her and she seemed to really take a liking to me, but she had to work that night and the next night, so really no chance to take her out. DavidI hope not only Dar learns from this. I have bought myself 2 of those hotel style safes for my appartment so that I can relax a bit more. they are not expensive, around 1200 RMB. You can even lock them with a ATM card if you don't want to remember the number. And they do have a hardware key in case you lose the card. And yes, I use them.

I have news from my masseuse that raids are being conducted across massage parlours in Shanghai. Not sure if it is restricted to the Changde Lu red light district, or further afield.
Just take care if you frequent these places for at least another week as apparently the raids are ongoing.
I had thought these places were the safest, but apparently this is not the case.
Hope AG can verify this info, and perhaps add to it, but at the moment it's all I know.

Something is going on. No streetwalkers on Henghsan Road last night, some touts, yes, but also the Jinjiang guys didn't show up. So, I guess, there must be some major cleaning-up, and, again, it is a "normal" annual routine, as National Day is approaching.
Things seem to get worse here: met a guy, who was robbed by a girl he met in "Zapata's". He was apparently drugged (maybe she put sth. in his drink, while he went to the toilet), because he didn't remember anything. When conscious again, he found himself in a taxi in the outskirts of the city, money, credit cards, cellphone, etc. all gone.

Shanghai is probably one of the safest places in CHina to both live and monger. SZ is a lot more dangerous.
We just need to follow the golden rules (on the ROD if you don't already know).
Apart from that, try to monger with brothers and watch out for each other.
Must really suck to have your drink drugged though, especially if it was by a girl you considered to be a friend, rather than a simple hooker.
Yet, even that problem would be solved if the golden rules were followed: ie. never mongering with any more than you can afford to lose and definitely no credit cards!

However I have a few questions that is not so related to mongering but are related to the Shanghai Gang, I hope you seniors have mercy for not giving me a bashing on the board.
1) It seems to me that the "Shanghai Gang" is connected to the Mafia or Gangsters of some sort. I noticed that the information on mongering places; especially with raids and real prices is very accurate to the dot. I am right?
2) I am not saying Gangsters are bad people but I am just an ordinary guy, so called ABC, in my first trip to Shanghai; I would be honoured to meet up with the “Gang” but I hope my ordinary soul would not be look down upon. So will I have the honour?
3) After following the posting for a while, I take it that AG is the gang leader? So AG, can I have the honour to buy you an expensive dinner or some KTV night out?
I lived in San Francisco, running a small business in China Town and am well aware that the Chinese Gangsters controls the Saunas, Entertainment and Meat Market. I do make friends with the gangsters. Most of the time; I am well aware that I would need to pay a little money for security of my shop and the areas around. This trip to Shanghai, I am sourcing for a business opportunity to start up my branch restaurant in Shanghai. One of the girls at that Prostate Massage place is not happy with the fact that the boss had fined her on many of her mistakes she made at work. It is true that they do clean up the streets more before and during National Day. But also if you go to the bars during this period, you will find that there aren't many people around either.
A lot of those who wanted to go away for Holidays are making their trip early to avoid expansive travel deals. I spoke to my travel agents and they all told me that all the flight during the National days are fully booked and a lot of other are flying out early and the tour packages during this two week before the National days are fully booked too!
At the same time; expats like us are also returning home early because of the difficulties in booking a flight for teh next two weeks.
Yes; Police are saying that due to the fact that there are less "targets" they are also stepping up security for places where foreigner frequent. Mainly because Holiday seasons = robbery season, Less target, more competition for theif and robbers.
So for those who are around during this period, watch your backs!

Seems like these is the new tend that got all the Saunas following. I heard that Da Tang Yu Jing is going to renovate soon and the new Saunas will be structure like a Soapland of Japan. Waves for one reopened last month with these concept.

I had been a reader for a long time and had been following the Shanghai Gang adventure.
However I have a few questions that is not so related to mongering but are related to the Shanghai Gang, I hope you seniors have mercy for not giving me a bashing on the board.

Was in town briefly earlier this week, and must apologise to certain members of the gang who OAH had notified i was coming, but did not contact as I mislaid the piece of paper everything was written down on, will contact next time I am in town.
Managed to get along to Hengshan road on the second and my last night about 11pm, but found it to say the least a little quiet, normal I presume on the run up to the upcoming holidays, although there were several touts around.

wandered down wuding xi lu tonight, between wanhangdu lu and jiangsu lu. there are about four bbs on this street.

Went to Sashas for dinner. If you have never been to Sashas it is definately one of the better eating spots for quality of food and atmosphere. After dinner walked to Bourbon Street Bar about 10::PM. Following a report by Shanghai Jack a couple of months ago I have now made the Royal Silver Spring Sauna at the Hengsheng Peninsula International my regular sauna. This is after it compared well with Shanghai Hotel (2nd best in my opinion), the old Waves and Yu Ping.

i live in beijing but come to shanghai occasionally. on friday at about 10 pm i arrived and stayed at this hotel across the street from the jing an temple on nanging lu. have to say that the hotel is lacking somewhat considering the price (250 per nite) it is not as nice as motel 168 which is cheaper but is centrally located. i was on the 6th floor. i noticed that there was a sauna on this floor as soon as i got off the elevator. changed clothes and headed down the hall to the sauna.

(the quote is from the phone help desk with mediocre English, so it may not be all correct) That sounds a bit steep, but what the hey, its for a peace of mind. So sure, especially since they have that 30 minutes HIV test thing. But wait a minute, they say, make sure you bring your Passport. Why the hell would I want to bring my passport, do I really want someone, anyone in Shanghai to have the information that I had a STD test. God forbids you actually come up positive with something. So the hell with that.
Next I turned to the local medicine option. (I speak fluent Chinese, including Shanghaineese, so the following may not apply to everyone else. I found Shanghai Skin and Sexual Disease Hospital, there Chinese website is http://www.skin-std.sh.cn/. It’s a 10 minute cab ride from where I am, so I decided to give it a try. It’s a small hospital, more of a clinic than anything else. You walk in the main gate and immediately on your left is a window where you will pick up a patient history booklet. You fill in your name, number, sex, and DOB, and then you take that to pay for a magnetic card, and you consultation fee. All that comes to about 21 RMB, then you go into the back to the STD clinic. You hand you booklet to the register nurse and wait amongst 5 – 10 other anxious Chinese people. There is Male side and a Female Side, and as the Doctor is ready for you, the nurse will hand you back your booklet so you can go into a examination room. Now, periodically people that the doctor who have sent away for a test of some sort will just walk right back to discuss their case with that doctor. If you happened to be in there already, they will just stand right there at the door and listen you as you discuss the color of your penis. So privacy is not exactly ensured. However, there is a private examination area, so nobody but the doctor get to see your penis.
So the doctor examines you, and tell you, nothing to worry about, its just something fungal, he proscribe you 2 cream and a solution you will have to clean with on a daily basis. Before you leave you ask for a blood test, sure, they will test three different thing in one shot. (not sure what they tested.) You can pick up your test tomorrow afternoon.
So after an anxious 24 hours, and everything is negative, and you feel invincible all over again.
So, here are two options for anyone else who felt the same panic that I did this weekend.
