21nd September Beijing.
I arrive at the great wall Sheraton hotel. I check in about 3pm, after a overnight from the UK, and get a few hours rest.

The sauna is nicely decorated but at the time of my visit it did not offer VIP suites. Apparently these suites are located just one floor below, and are actually the same as ordinary guest rooms. But these rooms were being refurbished and should be open by October.
The services offered are very standard. There are just two rooms for Thai style massage and all the other rooms (probably 15 of them) are for standard massage. Just got back from three glorious weeks in China! Phew! What a place. My second visit. After a night out in houhai, i was walking back home on pingan dao dow... i walked by a large sauna place with huge neon sign displays. It's a place i have walked by many times. I spotted 2 very likely looking BBS while I was walking on Jintaixi St today. It is a small street that runs between Guanghau Lu and Chaoyang Lu, through a mixed hutong/small shop area.

I paid Lo Ping 1200 yuan total for 2 chicks plus limo service for about an hour and a half (total time counting chatting and limo service was 2 1/2 hours). Chicks did not do each other but I did not even ask as they worked together well on me. One would kiss or rub me in all the right places at the same time the other was doing me. Very often in a two girl situation the "other" girl is lost half the time but these girls obviously have some experience together. This was one of the better 2-on-1's I have had (I wouldn't call it a threeway beacause they weren't doing each other).

It is a question of attitude, how you handle it. I still like to go to Bangkok, learnt my part here and just avoid to go to some places after a certain hour, and I definitely will always love Paris.

I must agree with the consensus of opinion on this thread. Give Beijing another try. I do admit that Beijing can be a bit more expensive place to monger than other China cities, but I've always found good quality talent at reasonable prices, Passions excepted, where I have found the best quality talent at ridiculously high prices for goddesses. The Mongolians are excellent value for money and provide fantastic service, often near GFE experience. And, there are plenty SW available in the 300-500RMB range. When there are over 1.2 Billion people, people can be very rude. I agree with you on this. Almost everyday, somebody will try to cut, push, to get in front of the line. This happens to me all the time in stores, buses, and I get very pissed off. Most of time I just give them a dirty look or tap them on their backs. They always ignore me, especially old ladies.
China loves foreigners since they (overall) know you have money to spend. Knowing this, you should be treaded very good. Especially by most of the working girls. Yes, you will be charged more than the locals but this is true in ALL places with tourist.

If you have dinner, you do not have to pay a cover charge. At least, not the last time I was there about a year ago. IMHO, this is one of the best HR in the world, a must see for any Hard Rock buffs. I understand they invested over 3 million USD in the decoration. You can always walk over to Passions for some eye candy should Hard Rock not be to your liking. I think I paid 120RMB cover at Passions last time. There are also many SW within walking distance.

Judging by the number of non-Canadian mongerers we see up here, our Canadian women here seem to be doing OK. There's no gun inside the gun jacket they put on as part of their uniforms, it's just tissue paper or newspaper inside to support the shape.

I'd like to ask the friend who posted about the Oriental what is the exact nam of the Hotel: no taxi driver seem to know Oriental Palace, there is a development called Oriental Plaza but it's not a hotel. The complete english name (normally beginning with "Beijing....." and / or the Chinese name would be appreciated. Any other sauna recommended in the embassy area?

Oriental Palace (Dongfang Huanggong) is just a sauna place whereas Oriental Plaza is a huge office/retail/service apartment/hotel complex at Wangfujing and Changan streets.
To find Oriental Palace, you need to know about the China World Hotel. This hotel is at a cross road, facing the Jianguomen Waidajie to the south and the Third Ring Road to the east. Oriental Palace is on the other side of the Third Ring Road, directly facing the China World and north of Jianguomen Avenue.
It is tucked away in a courtyard (quite dark at night), and at the entrance there is a neon sign that says Dongfang Huanggong (in Chinese of course, no English signs unfortunately) and another sign that says KTV and sauna (again in Chinese). Inside the courtyard there are several buildings. The Oriental Palace is on your left hand side as you go in.

Bill, don't really understand your question. For Beijing to Hainan the only way to go is to fly. It's over 3 hours by plane. GZ is much closer as you are not flying from the northern end of China to the southern most part so I guess maybe less than one hour. Unless you have a special reason to go via Beijing, you should definitely fly from GZ. So it's just a matter of business or economy class. I'm guessing around 2000 rmb from Beijing each way depending on if you get a discount ticket.

Long-term visitor, first-time poster. Had actually written a big summary on the BJ scene, when my PC crashed before I could post it. Well, it'll come in short spurts over the next weeks or so.
Wanted to share my experience with an often-overlooked, but in my mind perfect place of entertainment, the KTV. Admitteldly, it helps if you speak Chinese (or Korean if you go to one of the places in the the Ladies Flower Market such as Paradise, which is what the name suggests). It's also a bit weird to go on your own. Anyway, here's how it works:
You enter the room with your friends, select your drink (typically Whiskey, often fake), and then the Mamasan brings in a large number of girls between the ages of 20 and 25, making you finally realize what those economists mean when they say that China has a vast pool of labour (oh, yes, it does, and lots of it is very pretty indeed).
Now is when you get to pick - or ask for another batch to look at. There are sometimes some girls who speak some English (notice the frequent use of 'some' here), although this is not critical to have a good time.
Once all of you have had their picks, the fun starts and you spend the next few hours singing, dancing, playing dice & drinking games and being hand-fed fresh fruit by and with your new-found friend. HUgging and a bit of grab-ass is permitted, although I have not seen any further action inside the room.
When things draw to an end, because your voice is tired or the whiskey finished, just call the Mamsan and arrange your second round, which you can pay for here and now with your credit card, together with the rest of the entertainment.
A word of caution, not all girls go to the next round, they do have a choice, so be nice and friendly. If yours does not, the Mama will typically find someone else.
You are then free to take the girl back to your hotel or appartment. And if you can't do that, they even set you up somewhere (at an extra fee). This can be a bit dodgy though. I have been to the appartment of a relative of the Mamasan where the owners, a normal Chinese couple, had to sleep on the sofa so I could use their bedroom. Anyway, gained some great insights into Chinese home-life at the same time!
Price-wise, KTVs are pretty good value. Without take-out, a group of five will spend about 2,500 RMB. This includes RMB 800 for the whiskey, 300/ girl and 300 for the Mama plus a small fee for the waiter. Take-out varies between RMB 800 and 1,000.
Why is this so good? First, because you simply have fun and build a connection before you hit the sheets, and second, because most of the girls there are not full-on pros, so if you're nice and charming and they like you, it can be the best GFE that money can buy (if you excuse the pun).

- last week at the HKG airport my hand baggage was larger than the box it is supposed to fit in. I reluctantly went back to the counter to check it, the airline employee smiled at me and gave me a waiver allowing me to get in with my bag.

I agree it definitely costs more. Might be worth it some times, particularly if you are on business.
After reading so much about Maggies bar I finally decided to give it a try on my third visit to Beijing.
I was staying at the Great Wall Sheraton and was concerned about the hotel's policy of "no guests after 11PM". I recall other members have mentioned bringing girls past security after 11PM and perhaps with a few red maos it can be done, but for me this kind of argument with security while the girl is standing by is a mood breaker. BTW I have had difficulties before bringing in a girl from Passions (which is located inside the Sheraton) after 11PM.
For this reason, and in spite of what I had read on this board, I went to Maggies at 9:15PM (the doorman knows the place very well and gave directions to the taxi). I have to admit that was not my most brilliant idea.
First impression at 9:15 PM was that of getting into an Amsterdam brothel. There is a sign outside "please show your membership card", which I suppose is only intended to keep the local Chinese out. Inside, dim lights, twenty or so Chinese girls sitting at the bar, and I was the only customer. What the heck, I was there now, so I sat at the bar.
After a couple minutes, Lily sat nearby. Not particularly pretty, kind of a schoolgirl type, but friendly. So I got her a 100 RMB drink (the first of 8 or 9 I think... total 1200 RMB and the b**** asked for a 300-500 RMB tip!) and got myself a beer (40 RMB?) and a sandwich. But in the end it was nice to have somebody to talk to and she explained to me the rules of the bar, already posted here so I won't go back into details, but essentially the Chinese girls at the bar are there to chat and dance with you but don't go out. The Mongolian girls, who come in after midnight or 1AM, are all take out. All customers are foreigners, Chinese are not allowed in the bar unless they are somehow connected with the owner.
Sure enough, 3 hours and many drinks after I got in, the Mongolian girls and a horde of likely mongers started pouring in. The place really peaks around 1-2AM and the music is really good. Notwithstanding all the girls, Maggies would be really good place to go dancing and I saw some groups and couples who came there to dance only, or so it seemed. There is also a pool table and I noticed that some of the girls who play are really good.
Lily offered to get a Mongolian girl to join me and asked me to pick. She pointed out which girls were Mongolian, which, once you get used to it, is not so hard to tell. Some of the girls were very pretty, some looked pro and some looked more like the GFE type. The pretty ones were quickly taken by faster mongers, I am the slow type.
By 1AM I got tired of Lily following me around so I finally stopped buying her drinks and joined the now crowded dance floor. I hope she gets treated well, she deserves it. She is definitely numero uno on my list the next time I am in Beijing. Who knows, I might make a trip just to see how she is doing. I usually stay at Zhoulong (Great Dragon), its a 5 star Chinese hotel. Very girl friendly. [they dont look twice who you drag in]. Its expensive, so I have a local friend make the booking for me, usually 600rmb/night. Its walking distance to San Lutin.
I thinks there is a Days Inn nearby, but I never tried.
Other options are Landmark near Sharaton, about 700rmb but not quite walking distance.

First of all, Hong Kong is not China. The system is totally different.
Hong Kong is very straight on carry-on luggage and check-in luggages. For First and Business class, or a Frequent flyer member, the airline would usually give you an additinal 5KG check-in allowance, which the counter staff have authority, an additional 5kg is possible but required further approval/arrangement. And if your carry-on is a bit larger than regulation (but not too large), they would give you a orange colored tag which is a manifest that the oversize luggage would be responsible by the airline.
Your one minute boarding with mini bus won't happen in Hong Kong. No way!
By the way, Most China-based airlines' First Class passengers in China would be "delivered" to the plane by mini bus instead of coach(if the plane is parking in the apron area). Anyhow, first Class passengers in China are being treated like a king. Over weight? no sweat! over size? no sweat! getting late? no sweat! You can carry-on a fridge if you can get through the door! (one of my ex-freebie carried a double-bass in case.....)

I tried to post this earlier but it some how went missing, let's try again.
A few weeeks ago someone asked about the young ladies selling paintings in Bejing. I waited to see if an expert would reply but they did not ,so here I go.
The young ladies and sometimes men are found in most tourist areas of Beijing, particularly Wangfujing street. They come up to a foreigner and start talking about where you are from, what do you do, do you like Beijing... ?
They move on to state that they are art students and want to take you to a show nearby. When you get there you get a high pressure sell to buy overpriced, not so good, paintings. Many times they are prints and are 10 times the price of legitimate quality paintings elsewhere. If you are firm you get out but you end up wasting a lot of time.
Most of these students are actually English students and are not art majors but many are young and pretty.
I have been approached many times and now see what they are up to. If I find the ladies attractive I keep on talking but tell them up front I do not need or want any paintings. If they want to keep talking that is ok. At that point it becomes like chatting up any young thing. One problem is that they work in pairs and trying to separate a beauty from the beast may be a liitle tense. I usually give contacts for both and hope the beast stays away.
One approach that worked occured after I saw the same girl in the same area for a number of days. IOn a cold day in March I brought her a hot tea from a nearby McDonald's and asked her if she wanted to go somewhere and get warm. To cut the story short a few hours later we were in bed together and I had a new friend. Unfortunately she was from Xian and left a few weeks later.

Shenzhen-Shanghai is RMB 1400 list price - and RMB 600 discounted.
I rather go economy and spend the saved money on sex.

Do your own math buddy.....but if you discovered a way to buy 1st class 25% plus...do let me know.

You pretty much have to be extremely firm with Beijing Taxi drivers, especially from the airport.
Use the meter and only pay what the meter says! And a hint to you newbies to China -absolutely no tipping!
Insist on using the meter and get out if he won't use it. Get his license number if you can and report him, or at least threaten to do so, but get out anyway.
There are too many people who allow themselves to get ripped off, so they continue to do this.
I have gotten into arguments, short of me shoving his nose up into his brain. It happens to pretty much all of us - local Chinese, foreigners, you name it.
Also, there seem to be a lot of new taxi drivers in Beijing these days. Many have no clue where they are going, and I almost never go anywhere except well known locations. If the driver has no idea what he is doing, and keeps asking you where this place is, like an obvious one such as Guo Mao for instance, I get out and get a new taxi. It is not worth the agrivation of giving the driver directions when he should know how to get there already. Who is supposed to be driving anyway?

You are correct El Frances, from Airport to Chaoyang CBD is around RMB70. for a RMB1.60 taxi. that should include the RMB10 highway fee. Starting few months ago, the taxi have to pay a fee to go to the airport(RMB5 or 10, I couldn't remember), they might add it to the meter. I never pay that.
-Were you following the touts? Or were you line up at the taxi stop?
-The fare should never be more than RMB80, (except the RMB2.00 taxi, which could go up to almost RMB100)., RMB160 is crazy.
-If they ask for anywhere more than what it should be, don't pay, and get help from the hotel. If you have paid, get the receipt, and ask the hotel to help you to call the compaign number. All receipt has a number to refer to.

There is always a lot of discussion regaring the differences between Mongonlians and Chinese. Believe me, it is easier to see than it is to describe. I suggest you plan to visit the Pig and Thistle in the Lido any day of the week after 9:00 pm. There are about 6 Chinese "regulars" and typically about 20 Mongolian girls. Have a seat at the bar. There are many regulars that hang out at the Pig that know the score. Ok, Beijing is easy. From airport you are going through Airport Expressway, and you should be exiting at East 3rd Ring Road South bound to city. If you are going to the CBD area (Guo Mao/Kerry Center area) Anyhow it should always be toward South since the airport is located in the North East of the city.

If you are staying at Guo Mao or any other hotels on ChangAn or near Wangfujing Street - don't take the airport expressway all the way to 3rd ring road - it's almost always gridlock there. Take 4rth or 5th ring road - faster and (slightly) cheaper.

In Oct. went to Banana night club to check out the so call high class BeiJing night life.
The room was expensive to start. the biggest room costs 6800ROM for about 15 male + 15 or more girls.

If you get to Hatsune restaurant you have gone a bit too far (Hatsune is some of the best Calif style Japanese food in BJ). There are two barber shops on this road, quite close to Chaoyang Lu (north of Guang Hu Lu).

The funny part is when I went to the toilet: two guys standing by the lavatory I initially supposed were customers; not finding any trace of toilet paper in the place I came back to them who offer me a nice packet of paper tissues for 20RMB: of course they have removed all the paper in the place in order to make money. When I came out and washed hands while, not being asked to do so, one of the two guys gave me a "wonderful massage" on my back, and the other heat up for me a roll of tissue in a microwave oven! Of course after these attentions I could not leave without give them others 10 RMB.

Following a recommendation in this forum, I checked out the Oriental Palace. this place is located directly across the third ring road from China World. It is in the first alley going east off the frontage road, right to the north of the big Penis looking building. As you enter this location, there is a massage place off to the right (totally legit, cheap and good) and a large well lit building to the left, with a restaurant on the left (west end). The building houses a hotel, the name of which escapes me.

If you stay at Lido, then Maggies is short cab ride away.

Two years ago, the Lido was girl friendly upto a point (after 11pm the guards begin checking girls ID, maybe thats why many of them head towards Maggies at that time). I don't know what the drill is now. Appears Lido is more relaxed about girls now, but I have not stayed at Lido recently.

I had a look at "The Den" bar located on Dongdaqiao Lu near North Gate of Worker's Stadium.
This location is on the road from Minder's to Maggie's.
I was at "The Den" on Monday 20th of december.
This place seems me to be not so friendly than others well known in Beijing. Waiters aggress you as soon you go inside, no time to etablish contact with girls without be forced to buy a drink.
This restaurant/bar is quite small compare to others, music too loudly, no nice atmosphere.
Some Chinese, Mongolians and Russians girls.
At this period of the year without any negociation the prices were attractive (Nice Russians at 600RMB for ST extended).
I would not recommend this place on the Night Beijing 'Tour. Better to go to Maggie's if it is not too early.

The Passion (Tian Shang Ren Jian) is it. On East North 3rd North.
Prepare to pay RMB 8,000 and up plus the girls charges.
The othe one is The Diamond Age (Zuan Shi Ren Jian) It's on the basement of local hotel near the Interntional Hotel. Charges same as or even higher than The Passion. Owned by the ame group.
Bring cash. RMB20,000 would be able to cover the expenses there. (not taking the girls out)
Hello! I've stayed at the Lido and at the Rosedale. IMO, I prefer the Rosedale because it's a bit more discreet and quiet than Lido. Both are basically 'gril friendly' if you observe proper etiquette. Which means, marching 2 girls up to your room drunk and noisy at 2am is likely to get some interaction by the staff. Otherwise, well attended women are accepted - especially before 11pm.
After 11pm - you MIGHT have a problem. Here is where it helps to be a frequent visitor or have good rapport previously with the staff. Generally I have no problems if the staff are those I know (and have tipped). But I have had sometimes where:
1) They ask me to 'check in ' the guest - meaning, book her a room too.
2) They ask her to provide papers.
3) They simply add her 'room' to my bill the next day.
Want some extra security? Just make sure your guest has a room key. So when you check in , say that your girlfriend will be joining. You may or not have a slight increase in charges. Or you can just lose your key and a spare.
It's all about keeping face for the staff. So, if you give them a way to deal with the situation honorably, you'll have no problems.
As for the earlier report about the Den.. I've generally had a good time there - sometimes better than Maggies! However it is a more mixed crowd and can get noisy and crazy. As for the 2 or 3 hostesses nagging everyone for drinks - remember, they are working the hotspot next to the bar - where the Mongolians have camped out. They 'share' the spoils of the drink orders - If you know this - then you can pace yourself accordingly. On the bright side - it's alot cheaper than buying 'girl drinks' at Maggies.
But then all 3 clubs are fun in their own way. Pig and Whistle, Maggies and the Den. I'm not sure how much longer we can enjoy this kind of play - maybe a year or 2 at the most, before Beijing and China in general settles in to 1st world standard of morals and behavior. But for now it's a blast!
Also - I've been in KTV from the cheapest to the priciest. I would go for the one below the Landmark, next to the Sheraton Great Wall. It had great staff, beautiful women and good prices. Plan on around 2000rmb/person, take out not included, for big room, lots of cute girls and plenty of drinks and fun.

- bring a Caucasian friend as you membership pass
- speak English to them, and use very broken Mandarin to talk to the guards.
The above were also suggested in WSG few months back, so, they are not entirely my ideas.

What I read in the past, sometimes even showing your foreign passport, they will NOT allow anyone looking like a Chinese in Maggies. Even when you get in, with a white guy or with a foreign passport, the people there don't like it and are very rude to you. You will be ignored. I have never been to Maggies and I don't know how true it is but I have read lots of very simular stories.
The membership thing is just an excuse NOT to let you in, especially if you are Chinese. If Maggies don't want locals, showing a foreign passport ID should be fine. It's discrimination and there is NO law against it in China.
