I would prefer accurate reports. I have seen many exaggerated and false or misleading reports posted on the board.
I have also met AG and mongered with him in Nansha as he posted. He also seemed to me to be a non-violent guy. However, I would like to correct his assessment of the Nansha BBS area. There are 12-15 FS shops in total, not 30 as he posted. There are another 1-2 HJ only shops. The first alley we checked has 4-5 only. Even if you count all the obviously legit shops, I doubt there are 30 BBS in total in the area. On the other hand, "farmgirls" are plentiful and I have always managed to receive great service from mostly "lao wei friendly" girls.
I have also seen many posts with worthless, vague or misleading directions. If you do not want to tell us where the place is, don't post directions. I remember one post on the SZ thread about a MP near Jusco where it was obvious that the poster did not want us to find the place even though he posted directions. This is just one example.
Finally, some posts are pretty far-fetched, albeit rather "amusing" as Santa refers to it. After spending more than 10 years in this fine country, I know better than to believe a lot of them.
Most of the time, I just read the posts and humor myself rather than start a war to defend the truth.

Part 1 - The Negotiation
After returning from the mongering trip at Nansha with OAH and CRONIN; I rush back to Guangzhou to meet my date.

With all the recent raids by police, are there any establish concentrations of BBS or "farms" left open in GZ?

Head over to Shi Qiao. It is about 10-15 minutes by taxi. There are a couple of excellent KTVs there, one with more than 500 girls. One is in the Bravo Hotel and the other is in a 3 star hotel on the same road as the Friendship Store across the street from the Panyu Hotel. MAB told the security that he knew them from McDonalds and invited them up to his room for chat but ended up they wanted money and refused to leave. Security chased them out and told them if they don't he will call the police. They left the hotel reluctantly and started calling me over the phone (In which I had it turn off by than). 2. In either location, are there air conditioned buses directly from the airport to the Gongbei long distance bus terminal, or elsewhere in Zhuhai? If not, what procedure do I need to follow?
3. How late do the buses run? I plan to arrive at either 7:10 PM in Guangzhou or 7:50PM in Shenzhen, but Chinese airlines don't exactly have great on-time records.
FYI, I have researched the Shenzhen-Macau ferry option already. It would work great on my return but there are absolutely no sailings that will work for this part of the trip (If I get up in time for the 8:15 ferry I'll be too damned tired to enjoy the first night of my vacation - I don't handle waking up early very well, and I normally get up at 9.). And besides, I'd like to check out Zhuhai for one night. I appreciate your help, and will be happy to return the favor for anyone who has questions about Nanjing.

Guangzhou is 2 and 1/2 hours away by bus from Guangzhou Shenzen is 2 1/2 hours by bus also.So If you prefer GZ,It is not a bad option to consider.The Buses leave for Zhuhai every 15 minutes from 7am to 9pm from the GZ long distance Bus terminal

I have never heard of the red ropes in Guangzhou, but that does not mean they do not exist. IMHO, most of the better saunas in town only offer a HJ. But then again, I am normally a BBS kind of guy. See you next week!

There is a separate shuttle bus between downtown Zhuhai and the airport.You catch it outside the Zhongzhu building on the corner of Yuehua lu and Yingbin Dadao.Its about 20 RMB
I am just back from Panyu. I stayed again in the "Jin Hai An Hotel" 020/28642001 - despite the GZ fair in full swing it's only RMB130 for the single room - room has even a safe! It's a 5 Minute slow walk from the Panyu Hotel.
Interestingly the street where the hotel is located is a street brothel and there were about 30+ girls on the road (on a 500m length).
Asking price was 200 ST, 400-500 LT.

If a spa is a place you go to relax, have a facial, manicure, pedicure, and massage, there are plenty of those and not hard to find. A sauna would be all of the above with at least an HJ thrown in. If it is a clean environment you are looking for, you might try the sauna at the Baiyun hotel. At bit pricey but nice. I do not believe FS is an option though.

Normally, the SW that hang around the footbridge near the Panyu Hotel ask for 200, but can still be had for 100-150 ST. The SW on Guangming Lu and the small street across from the Bravo Hotel are 100 with no BBBJ, 150 BJ inclusive. And, if you go down to the River Road (see previous posts), FS is only 40-60, up to 100 BBBJ inclusive. IMHO, it is always best to monger on your own turf (hotel room) or from known providers eg. BBS. SW do not offer this insurance when you use their facilities. I was being scammed the same way on the River Road one night but caught on early and bolted. I reckon that experienced mongers get a sense of these sort of scams as they unfold. 50-60 RMB spent on a hotel room ST can be worth the peace of mind. SW on the scam will normally not follow you to your room, rather try and insist that you go with them saying it is not safe for them to go to your hotel. This is a telltale sign of a scam.

Also, I hope your Mandarin is good, because language will be an issue, as will the difficulty in getting reliable taxis.
Further if your are looking for SW action near the Garden Hotel, you are not close at all. At least a 15 minute taxi ride away.

This is what I got out from some of the BBS girls that had worked in Saunas before. Their meaning of "misunderstanding with the Sauna management" mainly is because in Saunas they are very "strict" in managing the girls. The girls get fines of 50 - 100rmb for offenses they made during their work. These offenses ranges from; 1) complains from customer that they did a lousy job, they turn up late of work, a customer request them on their off days and they did not get to work within 10mins from the time they are called, 4) Having period on while serving the customers. (Sometimes accident happens... where their period is early).
You can understand these especially No. 3 why will the Saunas girls live as close to the saunas as possible and sometimes hesitate to go out with you during they off day but during operations hours of the Saunas. Only if the girls is on home leave are they allowed not to respond to customer request. This also answers to the question that for regular customers, why is your requested girls always available even if you know it is her day off.

This is what I got out from some of the BBS girls that had worked in Saunas before. Their meaning of "misunderstanding with the Sauna management" mainly is because in Saunas they are very "strict" in managing the girls. The girls get fines of 50 - 100rmb for offenses they made during their work. These offenses ranges from; 1) complains from customer that they did a lousy job, they turn up late of work, a customer request them on their off days and they did not get to work within 10mins from the time they are called, 4) Having period on while serving the customers. (Sometimes accident happens... where their period is early).
You can understand these especially No. 3 why will the Saunas girls live as close to the saunas as possible and sometimes hesitate to go out with you during they off day but during operations hours of the Saunas. Only if the girls is on home leave are they allowed not to respond to customer request. This also answers to the question that for regular customers, why is your requested girls always available even if you know it is her day off.
Whilst on the other hand; in a BBS, they do not have to put up with all this shit of getting fine.
Of course the Saunas have their stand of keeping their standards of service by fining the girls for every thing that they do wrong, but I see it as a way to make more money out of the girls.
The "fine" system works in places like the KTV as well.

Just wanted to ad one thing. Another issue with "misunderstanding with the management" and another major reason for them to leave is the following:
Girl has to coop and work well with the managment, this especially applies to the manager/manageress and captains/keeper, who you will be speaking to. Every sauna has a ranking system and turnlist that tells when and which girl is to serve the next customer, but this is not always followed and some girls will be favoured and have a huge advantage against the others.
Why do you think you got a particular girl presented or recommened?
Here we are talking about "chou sui" in Cantonese, which could best be translated as commision in English, don't know the term in Potunghua. As for the girl to get higher up in the ranking system or more favoured by the management (who then is more eager to promote this girl), they have to give different of advantages to the management which inlcude monetary and sometimes sexualy favours. This commision might not necessarly be related to how much the girl works or earn, but the more you befriend a manager, well you can guess the rest.
Girls who can adapt, find them self happy in their unfavoured situation and a "good girl" in the eyes of the management will have more hours and greater success = earn more money. So here comes the second issue. Some places offers basic salaries, but someplaces doesn't offer basic salary or a very, very low one and salary based on how many hours they have served. At these places there is often a bonus scheme and a minimum quota for the girls to hit. To best describe how it works: imagine that you pay RMB 100 to the sauna for 1 hour massage. Sauna keeps 90 and girl get 10. But if girl manage to hit 100 hours, during one months time, they might get the double amount for every hours exceeding 100. Someplaces will give a bonus, including those hours she worked below 100 hours to encourage them to work more. But what helps if you are not among them that is called so often and can't hit the quota..... Fact is just to illustrate how it works, ofcourse every sauna, foot massage place and even KTV's applies and manage it differently.

There are a bunch of bars and some restaurants, at least 15 or more, all lined up in area along the Pearl River ( Zhujiang ). These are NOT your typical KTV bars. The location is very very nice, model, and a clean area where you can take a girl out on a date and walk along the shore line. The shore line has a nice wide sidewalk with a nice view of the river. It looks like area was redeveloped a few year ago. Each bar located in their own detached building with parking around. They are mostly one store buildings. Guys, this area along Yan Jiang Lu is called "Chang Ti Da Ma Lu". It's about 15 bars/discos. One notable one I went in is called "Babyface". It's a western style nightclub/disco where younger preppy chinese people hang out and drink and listen to a DJ spin records and shake their bootie. Note the drinks are more expensive, Carlsberg 355ml bottle is about 40 RMB, Tsing Tao might be 20-25 RMB.

Sorry, don't know about the Garden Hotel "side of the street". I was only over there in the late morning/early afternoon on a Starbucks run, and then wandered around the back side of the Garden on my way back to the Holiday Inn. Was going to go back in the evening, but then the thunderstorms hit.
Oh, to all, I miss spoke in my last report. The closed (temporary ?) massage parlor is out the front door of the Holiday Inn to the RIGHT on the RIGHT, not the other way around as I wrote.

RMB 500 is too much for short time. 150-200 should be maximum. If you are here for two days, try to spend some time in Dongguan. It's only an hour away by bus or train. You could probably get a bus from the china hotel. If not, they do have buses from garden hotel and baiyun hotel. But read the DG thread first and don't overpay.
For ease of mongering in Guangzhou, just go to the Garden hotel area. There is more than enough information on this thread already.

I was just thinking about you when I walked by the catacombs in CP last week. I also got a call from a buddy on Friday afternoon telling me the same thing about the Ramada shops being closed again. He did see one girl in Shop #2, but all the others on both sides had their shutters down.

If I ask something that's been covered already, my apologies -- I actually did read through previous posts but couldn't seem to find specific answers. 1) I am not particularly important or visible, but many people in the circle I travel (including family) are, and I probably will be in the near future. That said, I've already had my name and face in the local papers several times now. It would probably be a bad idea to sample in GZ, no? Yes, I know many official people dip into the pool, but I need to keep my nose clean.
2) After a thorough reading, it appears that action comes from SW, BBS, KTV and Saunas. I am particularly interested in the sauna experience and don't mind paying the premium for it. I gather that the best nearby saunas are in Dongguan and Macau. Is there an equivalent in GZ, especially in terms of the selection pool?
3) For the saunas outside of GZ, it seems most of them are located in hotels. I am correct in assuming that I don't need a hotel reservation to patronize the services?

Party World is a KTV, and probably the only legitimate sing a long place in GZ. Was opened by a Taiwan Company, and has locations throughout China. No girls to be had there, unless you are hitting up on the MALE servers.
FYI, no McDonalds near Party World either. Perhaps you should stroll up and down Huang Shi Dong Lu a little more.

Although he is mocking AG's experience in a satirical way, but from the follow ups I think he is making personal attacks. Basically he is saying AG is full of shit and that he is making up his experiences. I dont know why Stanley seems to have a personal vendetta against AG. But regardless I find his post unacceptable behavior because if what AG posted is true, then Stanley's response is completely inappropriate for someone who is actually traumatized by an experience. First of all, i am no pro in the China scene as i only make bi-monthly trips to GZ and Dongguan but from what i gather from your Q & A is that you are horny as your name suggest and you need anonymity when you go for your cure. My guess is that you prefer the Wash, Bonk and Out system without any hassle and strings attached due to public stature within your circle.
Well, considering your predicament, going to all the public places such as the Saunas, KTV's and BBS even if you travel to other towns is highly not recomended since they are all Public places right !! There might be some people who might recognise you from any 1 of your visits. Here's my idea of how best to monger in anonymity :-
BBS scene - Assuming that there is a monger trip to Changping since it is so cheap there. You could tag along with mongering group and let your wingman arrange the girls for you while you wait in the hotel room. Let the girls come to your room and nobody will ever know your deed, other than your monger group. Or get numbers of the Mommy and ask them to send the girls to you. Took a business trip to GZ last month. I tried to follow some of the boards advice but ended up stumbling upon some luck.
After my meetings one day, I took a taxi and asked the taxi driver to take me to a sauna. You don't need a reservation to go to a sauna in Dongguan. I presume that when you say, "ouside of GZ," you are referring to Dongguan. If you have a contact however, they can usually give you a discount on the room. Also, if you have a particular girl you would like to repeat, you should make a reservation.
So I went back to the sauna place again the next night after a good experience with #26. This time the manager guy recognized me and said "ok follow me" and walked me downstairs. Again showered, changed and put my stuff in the locker. I had enquired here a couple of months ago about the best way to get from Guangzhou to Zhuhai/Macau, and while a few people tried to be helpful, nobody was able to explain just how easy it actually is, so I want to add that info now. If someone has already done so in the intervening time, sorry. This turned out to be the simplest part of my trip. In the DOMESTIC arrivals area of the Guangzhou airport is a bus ticket counter. They sell tickets to multiple cities in the region. The one to Zhuhai leaves every 20 minutes and run from fairly early in the morning until, I believe, 10PM. Sorry I don't have that exact info, but there was a big crowd around blocking a good view of the timetable. There was a Zhuhai bus with one seat left getting ready to pull away, so they hustled me out to take the last seat, and I was not able to note all of the times. These are typical long distance China buses, so the seats are a little small and uncomfortable, and the A/C could use some work, but it gets you to where you are going. The bus stops at both of the long distance bus terminals in Zhuhai. To the northernmost one took 2:15 and to Gong Bei took 2:45. This was the day before a major holiday, so it is possible traffic was worse than usual.

A few shops have been shut in the area, including one of my favorites. "By order of the GZ Municipal Government" banners are stuck on the doors. Most likely a periodic license crackdown.
We were there around 6pm and there were not that many girls in the shops yet. I picked one Hunan girl that seemed very foreigner friendly in the shop. Her BBBJ skills were pretty good. No, all information and criticism against me are useful to me, I may be an old man but, I am always learning something new. I believe the day if people do not criticize or voice out opinion of me, that will be the day where I stop learning.
Not to worry, I will still remain to post reports of any good information in which I may gather during any of my trips or any mongering outings. Except the fact that I will cover less actions details in which describes the actual actions. These descriptive words are just annoying some of the members and seen as a way to "Show Off". Having said so; One of the main reason why I felt Strongly against such attacks is mainly because in the past, for participating in posting on ISG, I have been though worst situation in which I had received Legal Letters from third party threathing to bring me to court for certain post on the board and for impersonating the President of certain company in which I had never heard of. As a contributor of free information on forum, we all do not gain anything from posting reports. But what can be worst if the reversed sets in and you will have to pay for free information you had posted on the board for the benefits of helping others.
In this instant; I been accused by Mr. S . Ho for bullshiting on the board. What will I expect next from him? A Legal Letter for wrongfully accusing him of posting BS?

Well, I stayed at the Overseas China Hotel in GZ, and that place, or its surroundings is a hive of activity!
My friend OAH told me about a place not far from the hotel, and it was good info!
I will post a pic of the place, but walk out of the hotel and turn left. It's probably best to cross the road immediately. Walk for 5 minutes, past all the places that make games machines and on yor right there will be a sort of arch, with the name of something like Cosmos clothing centre ( the photo will show), and inside is a large blue billboard. Walk in, and turn left. Walk past all the little food stalls and you will almost come to the end of the place, which you will know as there is a police station there. I think they are desperate, or else after rolling you, because 100 does sound cheap for two young girls, but having said that, with no other income, maybe it isn't!
Anyway, that was GZ. The hotel wasn't as a bad place, the staff at least spoke some English. If anyone wants to know how to book it, message me, 260 a night is quite good!

So to make it short I learn't my lesson, never go to any girls place whether it is free or P4P. I only take girls to my hotel & usually get girls from BBS, because you know where they come from. Most likely, even have to leave a deposit of a few hundred RMB. They might have seen some large sum of money or your expensive phone to be worth the trouble to lose their deposit and abandon the apartment. Well, they might have been behind on their rent. To rent an place around Guangzhou is about $500RMB and up....It might be little lower.
I was told by serveral people, ISG members, hotel people, and friends, when NOBODY gets hurt, the police are NOT going to do anything serious.

It doesn't matters whether you are rookie or an expert. It is important that we have to watch out for ourselves, watch out for each other and be aware of what is going on around you. It is always advisable not to monger in new places alone and seek the help of members that are familiar to those places. In every new country or cities we go, as a foreigner (especially f you not speak their local language), it is very easy to fall into such traps.
With ISG, a lot of these information of how to avoid been scammed, cheated and robbed had been posted on the board and it is good people like you and "Go Joe" who are kind enough to post such information so that fellow member do not fall into such same traps as you guys did. This sort of reports are very much more appreciate on the ISG as they are truly information sharing and looking after the backs of fellow members rather than some people who likes post sarcastic remarks or personal attacks in trying to show off that they are very knowledgeable in this matters. These sorts of people will find themselves isolated from the group and when time comes that they scout for help, people will just turn a deaf ear to them. Nobody is an island.
As I also said before; The difference is that we are just been ourself, but some people just like to try to be someone else.
Mongering is supposed to be fun but if we meet with misfortune, it will takes all the fun out of it. So stay cool, continue the good work of information sharing and happy mongering!

1) Never carry lots of cash
2) Only carry one credit card (Max you can withdraw on one credit card is 4500 per day)
3) Only carry a photocopy of your ID, or Passport (in case of Police identification)
4) Never roam into unknown territory alone.
5) Whenever possible, hunt with a local or a group.
6) Have your cell mobile power on security lock on.
7) Program your mobile with your hotel no. or local police no. as quick dial number. When in trouble press the quick dial and leave it on in your pants.
8) Never flash your cash around.
9) Leave your wallet in the hotel's safe.
Anymore to add guys?

We have had several reports of members being forced to withdraw money from an ATM machine.
If you are caught up in a scam and the thugs insist you "pay up or else", it's a good idea to have an ATM card with a very small amount of money in that account.
Your second account good card should be in a safe place.
A few additional things I might consider. Some are useful, some are less so, but you can be the judge:
1) Don't dress up or down too much. For example, the locals don't seem to wear shorts, so perhaps you shouldn't either.
2) Keep a copy of your credit cards, passport number, airplane ticket, etc. You might want to change the first or last number to something you will remember, that way if that is stolen too, you can add that layer of safety.
3) Also take a picture of your cards and passport and email it to yourself, then you will be able to pull it up from any computer.
4) Give up the money and card when confronted by a hostile, but cancel what you can immediately afterwards. No point in getting hurt fighting it at the time. The obvious cost-benefit analysis applies.
5) If possible, carry prepaid credit cards, such as "travelex" (cannot lose more than the specific amount). Maybe even carry around a $20 prepaid visa card to hand off to the mugger. Most banks will have some form of this, although they may be specific for that country only, so check before purchasing.
6) Learn how to call from local phones. This includes calling home, police, embassy, local credit card company, etc.
7) Keep some emergency money in your shoes? I do this when in a BBS, but I suspect if they are going to rob you, they know this little trick already
8) Wear a cheap-ass watch. No need to excessively flash bling when travelling.
9) Keep a hotel business card handy for a quick cab ride. I often don't speak the language, so just show the card to the driver or police.
10) Put a rubber band around your wallet. This makes pickpocketting slightly more difficult (not impossible, just slightly more difficult).
11) To each their own on this last point: avoid giving money to pan-handlers. My experience is that they latch on to you, start speaking loudly, and attract others to grab you. In addition, perhaps points you out as a foreigner or someone with excess cash. And on a social level, encourages more begging.

A few additional things I might consider. Some are useful, some are less so, but you can be the judge:
No I don't agree fully on the following. May these apply to some other european countries or in America but in China they are smarter than you thought, see my comment below:

Agree on dressing like locals but a Whiteman is a whiteman, you cannot try to pass off as a Local. In general the impression of a whiteman is that you are rich. I have heard of a whiteman was robbed as the robbler threathen him at knife point forced him to return with them to his apartment, tied up, ransacked his apartment, took everything they wanted that is of value, beaten up (and been scolded telling him to returned to his own country!) and left tied up in his apartment for 8 hours until he figuare out a way to untie himself. If they know that you are localized they know that you are likely living in an rented apartment rather than the Hotel. They will not dare to ransack your hotel room because how much more you can have in the hotel? Plus furthermore they will not risk hotel security. This incident was reported last year about a local whiteman getting robbled all the way to his house.

It is always good to keep copies of these documents but remember if you are not carrying them around, you are already quite safe.
4) Give up the money and card when confronted by a hostile, but cancel what you can immediately afterwards. No point in getting hurt fighting it at the time. The obvious cost-benefit analysis applies.
Yes, do not try to be hero. Hero die young. You do not know what they have with them all you may know is they carry handgun as well. Although Carrying Firearm is a death sentence in China; they are not worried because they life is beyond been worthless already.
5) If possible, carry prepaid credit cards, such as "travelex" (cannot lose more than the specific amount). Maybe even carry around a $20 prepaid visa card to hand off to the mugger. Most banks will have some form of this, although they may be specific for that country only, so check before purchasing.
Not all banks in China accepts such form of payment and the Robblers know these. 70% of shops in a developed city like Shanghai do not even accept overseas credit cards. So if that is the case, must as well don't bring it.
6) Learn how to call from local phones. This includes calling home, police, embassy, local credit card company, etc.

7) Keep some emergency money in your shoes? I do this when in a BBS, but I suspect if they are going to rob you, they know this little trick already
The more hidden money they found on you, the likelyhood you will find yourself strip naked and searched full body. Haven't you heard of the guy who ran out on the street naked shouting Robbery! Robbery!! in Chongqing early this year?
8) Wear a cheap-ass watch. No need to excessively flash bling when travelling.
Agree on not been flashy but, also Robbler are smart. 80% of those who purchased fake watches from China are foreigners. If you are robblers, what does that tell you? :)
9) Keep a hotel business card handy for a quick cab ride. I often don't speak the language, so just show the card to the driver or police.
This is a international travellers rule. Just to add, In case you are rob off every cent, get on a taxi, return to the hotel and the hotel will help you out temp. even with the cab fare.
10) Put a rubber band around your wallet. This makes pickpocketting slightly more difficult (not impossible, just slightly more difficult).
In China, pickpockets are beyond that. The more difficult you make your wallet is to be pocketted, the more it shows a sign of that you are carrying a lot of money in your wallet. In China, they don't pick-pocket you. That is only in the movies; they simply rob you, and if you resist, they beat you up. Leave your wallet at home when going out mongering!
11) To each their own on this last point: avoid giving money to pan-handlers. My experience is that they latch on to you, start speaking loudly, and attract others to grab you. In addition, perhaps points you out as a foreigner or someone with excess cash. And on a social level, encourages more begging.
Never Never pity these beggars. The young kids are the worst! They are all under instructions of adults. I told a foreigner friend of mine never to do that but he had not listerned and thought that pitying these small kids are a good thing! Pulled out his wallet but before he can even fish out anything, he was arounded by 20 over kids and the next thing he knew, someone grabbed his wallet and ran leaving him standing in the center of these kids no able to run after the robbler. If you like to have such fun, go ahead!

I agree with all your comments, and will take additional precautions. Overall, though, if you take care to not look like a target (and I am describing all foreigners- white, asian, or any other race; as well as locals), it lowers your chances of being a victim. That is all you can do, lower your odds. As you correctly state, many thieves are very good at their evil trade, and have seen all these tricks before. And if you are unlucky, and/or cavalier about your own safety, you will get hit. A final note about sending your files to yourself by email. This is a precaution in case everything, including your original and copies, are stolen. Then, just pull it up at a computer terminal. These are, of course, worst case scenarios. Thanks for your very enlightening comments.

I think the Baiyun hotel sauna has changed their menu. You can now get a more playful massage for 430RMB. This still does not involve FS, but does have AR, BBBJ, HJ. This particular scam with various twists is pulled everyday in SZ, GZ and other S. China towns. The cowards just come in and lift your money when you are occupied by the bait. The boldest ones involve outright extortion of funds from your ATM. Some claim to be the police catching you in the act. Either way, it's nearly always due to bad judgement on the part of us mongers.
The best way to avoid these scams is to never follow a girl to any unknown place. Pay an extra few bucks and rent a ST hotel room, if necessary. Patronize establishments/providers that are known to you or recommended by reliable sources. Beware of offers that seem too good to be true.
I know sometime our hardons get in the way of our better judgement and this is when we are the most vunerable.

Saunas are hit and miss. BBs are often hard to find and get to. SW are a pain to deal with. GZ sucks. Last time I went to the Garden Hotel area the place was inundated with some of the ugliest women I have ever seen. I know we have all seen some babes there before, but this time was horrible.
However, we are very lucky in this area. Relief is easily found only a short bus ride away.
I couldn't get fired for the internet. I just don't want rumors starting or having my service interrupted.

I was told by another monger that Southern China especially, Dongguan and Shenzhen, has the highest crime rate in all of China because of all the migrant workers. Would like someone to confirm this because I'm not familiar with other areas of China.

[No need to confirm crime rates as China is not too open about admitting anything negative about their country (censorship is a big thing in China) so any statistics coming out from them are suspect anyway (as the actual numbers are probably much much higher).
But just based on all the reports from friends I know in HK that travel to South China for business and family visits I would confirm that it is not as safe as the northern cities.
My two friends (they both dont know each other), were both mugged more than once in broad daylight by knifepoint on separate occasions while in SZ and GZ.

Just like Weelock, I too am a "newbie" in the China scene. I have only been to HK--but its not like China.My so called expert monger experience is in Singapore and LOS. But as others have pointed out to me, China is way different than Sgn and LOS and HK, so I have alot to learn. Hopefully I will be more informed and wiser by Nov when I finally make it to SZ, GZ and CP.
BTW; sometimes its not easy to admit mistakes, but it takes a real man to admit one --so cheers to you for being honest.

I cant agree entirely that pickpocketing should be ignored. I personally know of mongers (not from this forum ) and at least one friend that had their pockets picked while on the bus and off the streets (also one had his backpack cut and some belongings stolen). It may not be as common as straight robbery but it should be a concern and watched out for (especially if you get "bumped")

Everybody is learning something new everyday. It is not important whether you are dumb or stupid, it is important to admit your own mistakes and that way, you will learn quickly. Everyday is a learning process no matter how old you can be. By saying that you are dumb means you are in fact admitting your own mistakes and these people knowing that theie mistakes will be unlikely to make the same mistake again.

A couple of things I've learned (some have already been shared, but what the hell).
1. Watch the bling. Expensive watches and rings are NOT a good idea. Lock them in your hotel room's safe if there is one, and if there isn't, find a good hiding place. (For example, many couch cushions have zippers -- unzip them and put the bling inside, on the side that's down when the cushion is in position. (The average room offers a lot of good hiding places.) Better still, don't bring expensive bling to China.
2. Most travel shops now sell those things you can wear around your neck that hold airline tix and passports. Put your money and your ONE credit card in one of those and hang it around your neck. That way (a) it's not in your pocket, and (b) you can wear it into the shower or wherever if you have to leave the room in a punting venue.
3. Carry a small amount of cash in an obvious pocket. That way your robber, should you be unlucky enough to encounter one, will get something for his trouble.
4. NEVER EVER eat anything that anyone has prepared for you in a punting venue. Don't drink unless the mama-san or girl has drunk, too -- for example, from a communal pot of hot water.
5. Get a hard-sided suitcase that locks. Put your camera, computer, printer -- whatever you carry that could go out the front door -- into it, and lock it. If you're going to use your camera during a session in your room, don't leave the girl alone with it any longer than necessary. The only thing I've ever had stolen is a digital camera, and the girl just put it under her shirt in the AM and walked out with it.
There are lots of other good hints in this thread. I know this all sounds sort of paranoid, but it actually reduces paranoia.

Never go to a small stand alone KTV unless it has been recommended to you or you have been there yourself.
A LOT of guys out there get scammed at KTV, and every single time, it's always at some dinky place they or any of their friends have never been to before. Just use your head.... no matter what anyone says, no one will offer sex at the KTV. That's not to say you can't do it.... You usually can if you're a regular to a particular KTV, but they will never let you do it if you're a stranger. I mentioned this before in my KTV Primer. Here's a link:

I will discuss with you on the dates once we all have it fix. However it seems like at the moment the preference goes to Weekends in which I think it might miss your scheduled trips to CP.

as for getting ripped off following a girl back to their place. i have heard from some friends who actually caught the thief in the act of stealing from them. you will find out that it is not the girl that steals from you. she just set you up. one of my friend found that his cloth is placed close to the door and while he is having sex with his girl, he happen to turn around because he heard a noise and saw a guy opening up the door and is going though his pants. he jumped up and grab his pants away from the thief. he of course left while the girl is still asking to be paid;
another friend also followed a girl to her place. he placed his cloth close to the bed, while he was doing the girl, he looked over at his cloth from time to time to make sure that nothing is happening to it. one time he thought his cloth was moving but was not sure so he kept an eye on it and sure enough it was moving. he jumped off the bed and looked around. he found that there was a guy hidding uder the bed. so be very careful. usually you can tell because the girl will not go to your hotel, she is very pretty and offers you service at a very cheap price. remember if it is too good to be true, then it probably is.

not a bad idea but most pickpockets in asia are already onto this idea and thats why some uses razor blades to silently cut your pockets and then steal your wallet. so best to use a hidden money belt for bulk of your cash and just keep a day worth rep001ter over several pockets and not just one pocket.

i do keep most of my money in my in room safe. i would only go out with about 1000rmb. i figure if i need more money to purchase something, then i would just either go to a atm or back to my hotel to get more money. this would also give me time to clear my head to make sure i really want whatever i am going to purchase. the velcro (thanks for the correction, never seem to remember this word) would keep the regular pickpocket away. you have to be a very good pro to use a razor and i hope they are few otherwise we will all be in a lot of trouble.

Went by last week. All four shops on the river side are shut. One HJ only shop and another, hit or miss, FS shop are still open on the other side. I went up the road, right and a quick left and one shop is still open on the left side about 20 meters down a small alley. FS is available, but I settled for a BBBJCIM for 100 RMB inclusive. Pretty good technique. There were only 3-4 girls in the shop in the 5-6 range only. Only recommended if no better alternatives are available.
