Well, if you're staying at the Crowne Plaza, Las Vegas would be at least 20-30 minutes by cab, alternatively, you could take the subway and get off at the stop after Huizhanzhongxin. Las Vegas is a KTV, but they also have a bar area. I haven't been there since April, but they had some very nice girls then. At Las Vegas, going rate is 1500 for all night. If you want to go to a club, all the best ones are in Luohu, which would be even further away. Lately, the only club I get to go to lately is the one at the Century Plaza Hote (Xindu Jiudian), called Class Club.

If you like tall slender girls, you might want to check out the Hilton KTV. They probably have the largest selection of girls that fit that description.

I've never been to Chicago, so I can't comment. The setting for Class Club is more typical for a nightclub than V-Bar. V-Bar isn't really a nightclub, it's more of a bar with a band. Class Club however, tends to get a decent number of foreigners. I presume that's from it's proximity to the border.

About a month ago, I posted info on about 10 KTV's in the Shenzhen and Dongguan area. Look for it, there's everything you need to know in there.

If you wandered the alleys close to the Walmart, you were in the right area. But you really need to know the area to find the decent spots. OAH always needs to show me, the guy has GPS installed in his brain. For me, I get lost if I take one wrong turn.

I would not explore this area alone as a first-timer, and expect to find anything.

As for your question about JUSCO, just ask the concierge at your hotel, and he can tell the driver where to go. This place has many names in English, but there is one name for Jusco in chinese that is non-ambiguous; Ji zhi dao. Not sure if you can speak the lingo.

First time KTV'ing in Shenzhen and decided to head over to Las Vegas based on suggestion in this forum. Quality was decent even though we went thru a few rounds before settling on our companion for the evening. Had a relatively good time but we didn't get too crazy with our play.

Room / drinks charge of about $1200 for 3 guys + $300 each tips for the girls. Seems reasonable compared to other countries but since it's the first time I have no idea if this price is good or bad. Any comments?

I couldn't agree more strongly with Cronin. I've mongered all over Asia (except for China, so far) and I have to say that by and large I think the girls behave better than their customers. By and large they're nice girls who make the best of a bad situation. The vast majority of them are honest and good-natured, and some of them are downright generous with their favors, often beyond the purely commercial demand.

I really hate it when people, online or in person, treat them without respect. I've known a few guys who monger out of an actual dislike for women -- both of them use the word "wh*res" almost every opportunity they get, enjoy degrading the girls, and take pride in throwing them out of the room if their every whim isn't catered to, as though the girl was just a collection of holes rented for the night. And you know, they get the worst service and get charged the most, so I guess it all evens out in the end. Sure an engineer makes about 3600RMB per month, but this is comparing apples to oranges. Even in the US, an engineer just out of college probably makes about $3600 a month, but high class hookers in Vegas get $1000 a night easy. Hell, a half dozen lap dances at Sapphire will cost you a $100 and that'll last only 20 minutes. If you go to an AMP in the US, it's $100 for a hour. No fresh out of college grad makes $100 an hour unless he's extremely lucky with connections.

Prostitution is similar to pro sports in that both are extremely short careers. People in those kinds of professions should try to make as much as they can before they get too old. An engineer with 30 years experience will probably make 5X-10X a newly graduated one. A prostitute or a pro football player with 30 years experience will probably not fare so well.

First off, let me thank everyone for posting reports on this board. I am going to be arriving in Shenzhen tomorrow and will be staying at the Sheraton 4 points. Currently I am planning on visiting the Dongguan Sheraton on the 17th to check out the KTV. My questions are:

1) What is the best way to get from Shenzhen to Dongguan? Should I take a taxi from one hotel to the other?

2) I noticed from Moody's very helpful report that the structure for a regular girl is 200 to sit and 1000 to take her back up. Now is that for LT? Also, does the 1000 include the sitting fee, or is that additional?

3) Anything in particular to watch for in the Sheraton Dongguan KTV?

BTW, I do not speak any chinese which will make things much tougher.

Try the new subway. It's small enough so that you should be able to find your way around even without speaking Chinese. There are only a few colored subway lines and NOT that many stops therefore you shouldn't get lost. I believe each "stop" has both Chinese and English Characters.

Next people at your hotels are usually very helpful. For example, try asking the bell boys for buses and directions. The buses and the subway are cheap about 2-5RMB for one direction.

Was in ShenZhen for a few days last week at the end of my trip to Asia, and was lucky enough to hook up with OAH, CSun and a few other mongers.

First night, I told OAH I wanted to try Sha Tsui, and he was gracious enough to oblige. So, off we went (OAH, me and another monger) and met up with CSun and another monger (forgot his handle on ISG) at Sha Tsui.

You have to see OAH in actoin - this guy is like the local expert of all the mongering places. We walked for quite a while ( I think it was for my benefit, so I could see all that Sha Tsui has to offer), until OAH finally went to a girl he had his eyes on earlier in the evening. Another monger and I picked two girls from the same shop (I was told they were sisters, but then found out they are only friends).

Upstairs we went; the girl I picked looked older than her "sister", but has bigger tits. Once we got upstairs, buddy's girl was freaking out and would not go into the room with him (I think his size probably scared her, plus I told her if he didn't blow him, he would last a long long time - said that because he was worried she would not do bj). So, back to the alley we went, and she was standing in the dark and put her arms around mine and off we went. OAH thought she did not go through the shop and was going off by herself - which I believe because she seemed quite nervous about the whole thing.

Anyway, we dropped OAH off at his hotel and went back to my hotel. She spent about 4 hours in my room, I had 2 shots, paid her 200 plus 30 cab fare. She was really growing attached to me, and wanted me to call her the next day again. I told her OAH and I were going to GuangZhou and wasn't sure what time I'll be back - she told me to call when I get back, whatever time that might be.

Anyway, we went to ChangPing the next day(report in DG thread), and when I got back at around 11 pm, I called Hui Hui again (I always keep my promise). She was all excited, and I asked her if she wanted to come over? She asked me to go to ShaTsui instead, but I told her I was tired and broke. Told her I couldn't pay for her and I spent all my $$ in GuangZhou. She then agreed to come to my hotel. Showed up about 30 minutes later and was all girlfriend-like. I was thinking, this girl's either nuts or ain't too bright. Anyway, we chatted for a while and I told her I was leaving the next day. I asked her to stay for the night, but she was really hesitant - kept telling me she has to come up with a story to tell her roommates (why? I don't know). Anyway, finally convinced her to stay the night. Had 2 shots again (couldn't do anymore - spent from the sessions in CP).

Walked her downstairs and gave her 200 plus 50 cab fare.

Have called her once since to chat a little. I think I may try to keep in touch with her in case I should visit China again in the near future. Fellas, don't worry, I am not falling for her, but she's a nice girl and a phone call once in a while will cost me a couple of bucks.

Overall, great trip. Had a few freebies in Philippines. Had a great time in China. If you ever get a chance to hook up with OAH, you should. Not only is he knowledgeable, he's also witty and funny.

Well.... I never take the buses either. As Weelok recommended, you could also try the subway, which is pretty simple to use. Better action can be found behinid Jusco which is at the Kexueguan stop on the subway. If you don't mind going in a little further into Futian, Sha Zui is probably the place to go if you're Asian. For action, those are probably the 2 best parts of town.

Life does not really take me from Shenzhen to Dongguan generally, but since both hotels are Sheratons you might want to ask hotel management. Taking a taxi all depends upon your budget, but the train from SZ Luohu station leaves quite often (maybe 40-50 rmb). If you don't want to backtrack, you can have a taxi take you to the Futian long-distance bus station (probably a 25 rmb taxi ride from the 4 Points). Have the hotel write the destination on a card first.

Be a bit careful in the next month or so, as there usually is an increase in petty thievery before Chinese New Year. Sometimes normally law-abiding migrant workers take on the side job of pursesnatching etc. in order to gain some money before they head back to their hometown.

Also, girls get a little more insistent on a tip, or say they need travel money, hong bao (red packets) and the like.

Found it amazing as it really is a hidden place in that providers range from the bar fly's in the hotel to basically village girls right out front of the hotel. Seeing as it was my first night in what I think is perhaps a bigger LOS than Thailand - I could not resist the hotel bar girl as she was by far the hottest looking. Best, and easiest way to get to Houjie is probably by cab. I don't know the bus schedule so I can't be sure about that. You can usually get a ride to Houjie from Shenzhen for about 200-300RMB.

1000 is for LT. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it's 800 for ST. The 1000 is all inclusive whether you sit with her or just head right back to your hotel room after 5 minutes in the KTV room.

The Sheraton is pretty straight forward. It's a little more expensive than other places in Dongguan, but not by very much. There will probably be some model girls there who are are 300/1500. I don't know if it's worth it. Basically, the model girls just tend to be taller, not necessarily prettier or any better.

If you arrive early enough, the Sheraton will probably have a few girls available who speak some VERY BASIC English.

A couple of comments concerning DS's post.


2) The 5 day Shenzhen only visa is no longer available for US passports. I believe they will be reinstating the 1 year visa for US passports in the near future. Typically, the 5 day visa costs 100 HKD, although price varies with the nationality of the passport. The 5 day visa at the border should be available again for US passports very soon if not already (as in reinstated a couple of days ago).

however I'd blow a lot of time by landing at the HK airport only to travel into HK to grab the visa.

I was thinking I'd go straight to SZ from the HK airport. Too bad the airport cannot do a VISA for me.

I could get the VISA done in US but it takes about 4 days and 2 trips, that's a pain too. I think I can get same day service but one has to arrive early morning, and fork over like 70.00 USD I think. What a rip off. Much rather have a simple 5 day pass.

I agree with moody. He makes a good point and analogy. A girl should try to maixmise her earnings and a pooners got to try to minimize the damage. Most hobbyist/tourist that come for the first time may not know better. And I have been guilty for paying for more than I should. For some people they just dont like any confrontation. I am not speaking for anyone, just rather making a broad comment. Perhaps it is easier to just accept the terms given, if they can live with it. For regulars that go frequently this sucks as it does raise the girls expectations and make if more expensive. Anyways, I am going pooning now. And I wont overpay, but will tip if I get what I want.

Was in Tsa Tui(Sand Mouth) a couple of night ago. There were about 40 girls in the area where I was. Information here is up to date. Meet with Mama names Ah Lan, very helpful and nice. Train Stop is not close to Houjie, at least 45mins away by car !. Cost around 50RMB by taxi if you are lucky.

The train stops in ZMT, CP, or SL. The Doungguan City stop is CP.

The nearest stop could be SL, about 45-50 mins, freeways much faster.

I read about a guy who had a problem with two women in his hotel room. I wonder if it is the class of hotel or the type of ladies. I had two girls come t my Hotel (4 stars) and no problem from the Management. Both were accountants in a Medical Supply Company. I fucked the lovely 23 y/o for the next two days/nights on a continuous basis until I had to depart.

S. China is great. Was in Shenzen last week in a cab and saw a few areas that my mongering sense told me had girls. Last night after Jusco we headed out. We both picked a girl each back to hotel for 150 each ST. NOTE: This is the price you should be paying. More on this later. True to form last nite our cabbie brought us to a Seafood restaurant in one of this areas. My ally and I decided tonight we were not settling for less than an 8. We've both had so many 7 and 7.5. We're talking about S. China and our standards are high. We both have been travelling for a month together and separately. We've done so much individually and separately so we really wanted a solid 8.

After dinner, we decided to roam around. Surveyed the area and walk into a few of the back alleys. Knew the girl were around somewhere. Found a few store, more like open living rooms, that had girls. The girls range in age from younger to about 23. So we knew we were gonna find some talent. Approached by a girl that recognized us from Sha Tsui. What coincidence. I was with Bill, OAH, Ramsey and another unidentified monger in ST the previous night. She quickly made herself and her friends available. Talent ranged from 5-7.5.

I was in SZ last month and reported fully on activities then but I had to return there again for some more meetings in last couple of weeks. I was looking forward to hooking up with a couple of the girls from last time so - here goes report..

With regards to Sha Tsui, I am not too sure. I would not worry too much, though, there is action in almost any permutation all over Shenzhen. I would say that there is not more than a ten minute walk from any place in Shenzhen for some type of action. Even in a place like the Crowne Plaza--which is situated in the well-heeled Overseas Chinese Town-- there is a peasant village nearby (not to mention the gals in the Hotel itself (V-Bar)). Many hotels have a sauna attached. In addition, an entrepeneurial person almost always sets up a bbs right next to a hotel to capture customers of that hotel who do not want to pay the higher prices of in-house.

I agree with monger Tangent, action is all over the city. There are hundreds of hotels all over the city, from 5 stars to no star ranking. You need to be more specific about your question, too general. Shenzhen is about half the size of Los Angeles. Just to drive from one end to the other is about 2 hours, from Shekou to way pass DongMen. Good start would be, to do a search for maps and hotels on Shenzhen. I posted some links to maps of Shenzhen.

You need to hang around outside the high end 4-5 star hotels around Lo Wu Border. There are several 4-5 star in the area. It's 24hours but the "best time" would be the evenings or after 6pm. I figured anything close to a popular location like the train station would be overpriced. I had to look back once in a while, always observing who's around me. Did find some interesting ones but decided to check out what's in the main alleys. Went through the four alleys and decided on one who had a decent size chest. Asked mama how much to take to hotel, and she replied $300 ST. I reminded her market price is $150 to $200, and I've always paid that. She countered that Shangri-la is too far... to much time. I told her I had take out last time (a year ago) from the same area and I stayed at GuangShen Hotel (about the same distance as Shangri-la from Jusco) and I only paid $200. Maybe it was my timing. Was there around 7pm. Went for plan B, Nian Nian, for $200. Paid mama $100 and off we went. Nian Nian was paranoid about having trouble getting into the hotel, since it is close to CNY. The cab driver was nice enough to comfort her by telling her it is no trouble (always sounds more credible from a third party).

Got into the hotel without any problems and then guess what... my card key didn't work. My door just wouldn't open. I was beginning to think that I was in front of the wrong room! I called downstairs and they sent someone to correct the situation. More on Shangri-la later. Nian Nian was a nice girl - early twenties, from HuBei, and told me she was new. There is a very good hotel right next door to the Shangri La, I had a very nice room there for only 260rmb I think it was. Had to politely haggle and a Hong Kong guy checking in helped me get that price. Don't remember the name. Exit the Shangri la and turn right and it's the first large building on your right. I'm not talking about Century Plaza Hotel. This hotel has a chinese name.

There is an areas where cabs hang out. There are CP cabs in Shenzen looking to make their way back to CP. They have to go back anyways. So why carry an empty load. Generally cab in Shenzen is not cheap. Starting fare is 16rmb after 11pm. Shenzen is not small. Cab from around train station to Shekou cost 75-100rmb.

Major hotels will have agent outside their hotels offering cards for 'services'. If you read this board then don't be lazy. AVOID THEM. There are mamasan on the street coming out from the train station after shangrila on the way to century plaza. Again do as Fast Eddie don't bother. Most these girls are be rate.

Weelock - Stayed in a couple of the hotels you mentioned. Generally most hotels are girl friendly. This is Shenzen and part of the charm of the city are the girls. Most will turn an eye away. If you guys don't find anyone more senior, suggest at least two of you getting together. I believe all your travel dates are almost the same. Was strolling around the Fuxing Walmart area yesterday
and saw that the large construction project in the area
is finally done. It's called the Futian Cultural Center/Plaza
(Futian Wen Long Guangchang). There there's a small but nice
amphitheater, large central square, even a large color sports
scoreboard that's being used as a public television. There are
even badminton and tennis courts at the top of an underground
parking garage, too. Now, I don't have any idea what the purpose
of this cultural center is...don't see any pressing desire for
culture, tennis, or a parking garage even.

Well, one of the indirect effects from the construction project
is that the whole neighborhood is cleaner and less dingy than
before. My feeling before was that after exiting Walmart and then
walking to my left then another left, the farther down the street
I got, the lower the quality of buildings, streets, shops, etc.
but this was a clear sign showing where the BBS's are. Now, the
whole street is consistently manicured and well-maintained. You're
not going to confuse it with the streets in downtown SZ but there's
not the "BBS area drop-off" like before.

Also, there are fewer BBS shops than before, I saw 2 on the main
street compared with 6-7 before. There are still about 5-6 shops
in the back alleys though. The 2 shops on the main street have
been "upgraded" too. The first one you encounter has actually
been remade to a legit foot massage place, but the girls are

I can not adequately express how happy I am. The HeDong hotel is a good place to stay. Not much in the hotel, but it is located very well. U-Bar is around the corner. Walk a mile up Shennan Lu and you will find Jusco. The price is 238. They call and ask if you want a massage. I checked out the hotel bbs on the second floor and the ladies are pretty, but older than 27. It is not spotless, but good value for budget conscious.

Hundreds of protesters clashed with armed police outside the Shenzhen government office yesterday after authorities shut down dozens of discos and massage parlours in an attempt to clean up the city's image.

The protest was one of the largest in central Shenzhen in recent years. More than 3,000 people - most of them workers at nightclubs and massage parlours - marched to the government office in Futian to voice their anger.

The authorities despatched 5,000 armed police, security guards and plain-clothes officers to the scene. The two sides faced off near the government building and the roads had to be closed temporarily.

"I saw hundreds of armed police arrive by bus. They surrounded the protesters and told them to disperse. There were some minor clashes and about 10 people were arrested," said a taxi driver who witnessed the protest.

The pink buildings are 5-6 storeys high, very filthy (even by Chinese standards), completely dark and a dim light turns on (and off in a second) as you walk up. Truly scary!
Its uglier near Jusco, but there you can make a quick retreat to well, Jusco.

I have never heard of the bao an involved in any scams. Anyone with different POV. Please share. As we do want to educate and help fellow mates out.
IMHO, I think the "service" industry in China is pretty good. As there are so much competition, most dont resort to scams. Just hard negotiations normally.

When you ask for protection against specific STDs, do you have a substitute for the good old raincoat which I thought was the universal protector against most things with the exception of crawlies such as lice. I am generally interested as this seems to be a common question from China newbies.

I know how it sounded but please don't think I'd be so stupid as to outright ask them if their employees have been screened for STD's. I wrote them to inquire about a number of things about the hotel. The web site only shows a few pictures. I asked a lot of honest questions.

Among them I asked about the facilities, the gym and the Sauna. I also asked something like "if the Sauna was nice and clean" Were the technicians (good word eh?) clean and professional. I threw this in there so it did not sound so blunt. I do not think what I asked would be insulting to them. However, I may be under the wrong impression.

Not trying to pile on you, but reading that you actually wrote to this Chinese hotel IN ENGLISH to ask if their massage workers were DISEASE-FREE gave me the hardest laugh I had today...not sure how experienced you are with pros and/or China in general, but what you did is akin to something like writing an email to the CIA asking to look at their secret personal files on you for "spelling errors"...

I agree with the other members, too, it sounds like you will be too paranoid and scared to really have a good time, especially in China. Maybe stick to HK, where it's semi-legal at least and you don't have to be aware about a lot of little things that you might have to be in China.

I been to shekou many time and I like the sha tsui bbs better more girl and the quality is better , bar action in shekou is more for the tourist and foriegn
most chinese and senior monger will not go there , for ktv action i like ha sha
and huanggang area for the value , and the price for hotel is lot more than the other area in shenzhen sometime twice as much , shekou is not near sha
tsui taxi is about 30 min around 45 rmb .

Lucky for you ManonsanBoy. It's the first time I heard of a girl being slapped for poor service. Girls being yelled at, or a discount later are more common.

Last year, I had a girl in Sha Tsui I complained to the mamasan. Her phone rang about 4-5 times in the middle of the wild thing. Each time her phone rang, she would stop and answer the phone. She then wanted to leave after 15-20 minutes and I wasn't done. Her excuse was something like her real mother had a problem and the police was around. I wanted to pay her less and I complained to the mamasan but she and her mamasan said NO. They threaten to call some people to beat me up. There were four of them one male and three females. I finally gave up and paid them. There was too much of a language com***cations problem. I could have ran but it wasn't worth it for 150RMB. I have her phone if you want it. This mamasan likes wearing a red baseball hat. She is about 30 and 5'3". She loves to play cards.

Once in Changping a mamasan offered to give me a discount after the first one gave me some problems. She didn't want to continue becuase it was too painful after 10-15 minutes. Her excuse was I was too big, wild and incredible. ( Yeh right, for real ) I'm sure the discount was because I knew the mamasan since I taken another girl from her before. I was a repeat customer.

I believe most of the time when someone complains, they will give you a discount the next time. Even with a discount, you might be paying more than the locals.

i guess speaking the local language helps. always have eye contact with the girl and try to joke and com***icate with her. try to a feel of the vibe. though this does not always equate proportionately to what service you will receive. however, if the vibe is bad, you may be better to chose someone else to begin with.
also it helps to make clear what you expect to begin with. if you want anything beyond straight s**. As you never know each girl does or does not. I always tell mama up front what I expect. It's better that way when you do have a particular need at the moment.
maybe your girl had a history of complains. so it was compounded.

I have to say I have been pretty lucky with the BSS girls in China. This is in contrast to the Geylang fishbowls in Singapore. I am certain it is because I look like a local and speak the lingo. Thing is I speak to these girls afterwards, they are by and large village girls who can earn 3000 a month in contrast to the misery of working on a farm. Went out last night for dinner and some drinks. Dinner was at Kinglory Plaza in Luohu at "Made in Kitchen." If you like Asian fusion cuisine, this place is pretty good. It's a little expensive, but the food was excellent. Tab for 5 people came out to a little over 2000RMB.

After dinner, we headed to Class Club. For those of you unfamiliar with Class Club, it's somewhat of an all in one place. They have a disco, a bar, and KTV. We went to the KTV this particular evening. Class Club KTV has a very nice ambiance. Lighting is not too dark, and not too bright. The rooms are decent size. When we got there, the mommy apologized because not many girls were working this particular evening. A lot of them have yet to return from holiday it would appear. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed in the selection. Usually, Class Club has some of the best lookers in Shenzhen.

We went through about 4 lineups before the 5 of us selected our temporary companions for the evening. Evening was typical KTV deal. Tons of drinking and playing dice games. Some dancing and singing after a couple of hours into the evening. We all had a great time and a friend of mine paid the check so I don't know what the tab was. While he was out paying the check, I went to the bathroom to relieve myself of some excess liquid and when I returned, I found out he tipped my girl already. I cursed him out a little bit and he cursed me back, which is our usual dynamic in these situations. At that point, we called it a night and he drove me back to my place.

Moody and I visited the area last night at around 9:30pm. When we arrived the LE were harassing one shop. I looked over the LE's shoulder and he waved us away with a grunt. Soon after, all the shops started shutting and the girls were scrambling about. 20 minutes later most of the shops reopened and it was business as usual. We never did find out if it was a shakedown of the one shop, a license check or an ID check of the girls.

In all the excitment, one of the mamas let her guard down. A couple of local guys offered her 100 RMB ST to which she replied, "Where can you find 100 RMB?" She told them the minimum was 130. Overhearing the conversation, I backed her up. Later on, I went back to the shop and she quoted me 150. I asked about the conversation just a few minutes before to which she replied that I was a foreigner and should pay more. Pissed off as usual at the discrimination, I split.


I often wonder what goes on behind the scenes. I reckon that the girl only gets 100 RMB all over S. China in BBS regardless of what the customer pays. Is it just greedy mamasans trying to rip off foreigners? Should we really pay more? Is the "oversize" foreigner surcharge justifiable even if my dick is no bigger than many local and/or Asian guys? Are all foreigners "li hai" (sp?) as the girls protest?

Very local(poor or neighbourhood regulars) locals get it cheaper in most places as the mama wants the regular business. Or they may be local gangsters. I have encountered the exact situation and walked off and the mama still will never budge on the price.

Whereas mongers rag on others for ruining the market by paying too much, mamas are just applying the same rules about ruining the market and not charging too little.

For those who ***** on about how they have a dislike for BBS mamas, if it wasn't for them you wouldn't get the amount of talent as it is their network of gals and the safe haven (food and lodging provided) of the shop that keeps the stock up. Good operators also exercise a degree of quality control.

The next morning I'd like to go to SZ - I've read about the land route which will take me to customs - there's also the hydrofoil - what would you do? I take photos so the hydro sounds like it might better support that hobby. Any advice on getting from Wanchai to SZ - the easiest route?

The boat will arrive in Shekou, which is quite a ways from your intended destination. The easiest way would be probably to take the subway to Tsimshatsui station and get on the KCR to Lowu. From there, you pass through 2 sets of immigration and you're about a half mile walk from Shangri-la.

Also, you will need a visa. Price for the visa varies with the nationality of the passport. Previously, a 5 day visa just for Shenzhen was available. I'm not sure if it still is though. Probably a better idea to get one before heading there regardless.

I'm a US citizen, I don't have a visa, and don't have time to get one before I leave. I had heard I could get one at the border - but now I'm not sure.

I'm mainly interested in staying close to the Shangrila and Lowu station area - I'll only be in Shenzhen for 2 nights (on my way to Thai and Philippines) - but it's a start.

1. What's the best way to get to Shen from HK airport - that late at night?

get your visa in US ahead of time 50 usd for 30 days one entry your travel

IMHO the risk of hoping that the 5 day Visa office at Lowu is open and wondering if they will give on to a US or GB passport holder is just not worth it.

If it is closed, or they refuse you, then you have already entered China without a visa. That means either a hefty cough or anything up to 24 hours in a locked room without any food and certainly without any mongering !!

It happens regularly - basically all depends on how much the guy on the desk likes/hates you/foreigners/americans etc and/or on current local/regional/national policy.

If you have time for a 24 hour stopover in Hong Kong any travel agent will get you a rush visa for about 10 USD over the fee. If you have no time then get the Visa before you leave home.

Trust me ..... I travel through Lowu in/out of China on average 5-6 times a week !

Last time I took over a US buddy which was at least 2 years ago the cost was HK$400 but as I think they stopped doing them over the fingerprint requirements for Chinese to enter US it would be better to get one before you go.

Entering China side of Lo Wu without a visa is no big deal as you will just be sent back to HK side of the bridge. This is quite common as lots enter China side of border looking to get the 5 dayer and being refused. No naked squats required.

You may have a bus to Lowu, but it will cross the border at LokMaChau/Huanggang and then go via SZ city to Lowu. You will go thought passport check at LokMaChau and Huanggang.

With "Lowu" I mean the border crossing and not the commercial district.

Lowu border is a TRAIN only crossing. There is no bus or car access.

Therefore, if you leave by bus anywhere from HK, you MUST have a visa.

Obtaining a visa in Hong Kong is pretty easy. You can go to any travel agent and if you give them your passport by 9AM, they can usually return it to you by 2PM. Visa price is around 300+HKD for single entry for US Passport. You will however, need a passport photo for your application, so don't forget that.

You can take a chance and go there and hope for the best or wait a day. If your flight arrives at 8PM, you can get to Lowu by taking the Airport Express to Hong Kong. From there, take the red line (Tsuen Wan) to Tsimshatsui. There you switch to the KCR going to Lowu. Alternatively, you can take a cab from the airport to Sheung Shui station and catch the KCR there.


2. Can I get a visa at the border?


As of now, it's up in the air. I don't think anyone's been able to confirm 100% that the 5 day Shenzhen visa is available at the border for US Passports right now.


3. Any decent hotels close to Shangrila that may not cost as much?

There's a gazillion hotels around there. A decent 4 star option is the Century Plaza Hotel.

You can try going to Lowu when you arrive. If you can get the 5 day visa, then great, you can enter Shenzhen that day. If not, you can just turn back around and find a hotel or sauna in HK. In the morning, you can arrange a visa at any travel agent. If you get your passport to them by 9AM, they'll return it to you by 2PM. Make sure you have a spare passport photo for the application.

I had this question, so did some others - went to the consulate in New York City today and was told that they no longer offer the 5 day visa at the border - that US passport holders must get a visa before they hit the border.

Not real friendly of course - however when I asked - 'Can I still get a 5 day visa at Shenzhen at the border' he said 'depends, let me see your passport' - so that may leave the door open as to what his response would have been if I had produced an EU, Australian, or Pluto-ian passport.

Of course - they could have just been interested in selling me the visa - but they didn't seem to be interested in much of anything.

My options were same day $30, next business day $30, regular service was 4 business days.

Crossed at Lo Wu yesterday and asked immigration officer at China end and confirmed that no 5 day visas for US citiziens. But things change all the time. Also US passport holders get charged more for visas at China Travel Service in Hong Kong.

As for transport to Shenzhen, as far as I know all the bus and car services cross the border at the Lok Ma Chau / Haungguang border before heading to Shangri-la. Seat in minivan is HK150 and slightly quicker.

If this particular service is not running, there are certainly others that offer the exact same service. Try the A-1 counter at the airport. They usually offer a minivan service that's a bit quicker and a bit more comfortable than the regular bus.

I took a bus from China Travel Services at Hong Kong airport to Shangri-la hotel in Shenzhen for 150hkd. If memory serves me right, you get on a bus from Hong Kong airport, get off the bus at the HK crossing, get on the same bus on the other side, then the bus takes you to Huanggang bus station in Futian, Shenzhen. From there you will be directed to a small minibus which will take you to Shangri-la hotel. So it is still not hassle free, meaning you still have to get on and off the bus.

Next time I'm there I will take the A43 bus from the HK airport Ground Transportation Center, get off at the third stop at Sheung Shui KCR station, and take the KCR for one stop to Lowu and cross the border to China. Shangri-la is right in front of the border crossing. Total cost is around $50hkd. Saving $100hkd doesn't sound like much in terms of USD but remember that in Shenzhen you can do a cutie for $150rmb!

I would also advise you to buy and Octopus Card at the airport for 150HKD, which would save you the time and hassle of having exact change for A43 bus and KCR.

for hotel you can try the century plaza hotel behing the Shang. You'll save a bit of RMB's. It's quite nice. And the business center staff was very helpful when I stayed there.
Though the shang is nicer but pricier. Take the Century if you footing the bill. It's got what you'd need at a lower cost.

The other place is the bar by the pool, i think it's the 3rd floor. The bar just outside and below the hotel seems to have some available as well. Haven't tried any of these because of co-workers.

Sounds like you have an idea what you want and have read some of the postings here.
At the Crowne there's V-Bar on the 3rd floor. Go there early to pick the nicer freelancer. Most of the girls here speak English. Many have day jobs and looking for extra income. It cater to foreigners. So it is NOT good value nor and YMMV.

It is way easier to get a 6 months multiple or 1 year visa from Japan travel than it is to get it from the Office of the Commissioner of the Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. You might not get it there at all.
But US passport holders have not many other options. Most travel agents can't handle US passports. [If Shoestring Travel does handle Us passports (I didn't know that) they are a very good option for sure. I did air tickets with them already 16 years ago. I do them now with one of their former managers who opened her own agency]

For (almost) all other countries' passports JTA are fast, easy and cheaper. I do Visas with Japan travel since many years, they are 100% reliable.

My votes for them as they are cheaper and only require your passport, money and photos.

South China Morning Post may be the leading newspaper but they do not guarantee the services of all its advertisers.

Depending on what type of visa you are applying for China Travel want contact information on who you are visiting, etc. Usually a couple of hundred more expensive that Japan Travel. This is a safer option than a normal travel agent as I know of another agent who went bust and the principals disappeared.

As for going to the Consular, they want a letter form the org./co. you are visiting as well. Too much hassle to save a few bucks.

Shoestring can do same day 6 month, 1 year or 2 year F visas for US. You pay I believe an extra 250 for next day and 500 for same day. Drop it off before noon, pick it up by 6PM. Pricey yes, but for me saves me the cost of a hotel as I have a house in SZ.

In-call in Shenzhen is pretty lame. You can try calling your hotel sauna, but usually, the service will be overpriced and underwhelming. Lately, there's lot of guys hanging out outside of hotels passing out cards with phone numbers. I haven't tried any, but I get the feeling that these will also be major ripoffs.

I tried the area next to the Shangri La in LuoHu area. It is pretty easy to find, as it is just east of the Shang, just cross the street and you should see some red low rise buildings on your left. There are about 10~15 shops over there. I met up with a mamasan who has the nicest attitute. She and her husband keep offering me free dinner.

The Pro's are very professional (do not expect GFE) and very expensive by local standards. You can find them sitting in the lobby late at night, or the V Bar, or just outside the V Bar by the pool.
The freelancers are more interesting, local girls looking for extra money. Good potential for GFE, but expensive by local standards.
Also at V Bar, you can find normal girls out for drinks and dancing. Many are approachable, some will speak English. If you hit it off, you found a freebie.

Shoestring can do same day 6 month, 1 year or 2 year F visas for US. You pay I believe an extra 250 for next day and 500 for same day. Drop it off before noon, pick it up by 6PM. Pricey yes, but for me saves me the cost of a hotel as I have a house in SZ.

Most travel agents, if you drop off by 9AM, they can get your passport back to you by 2PM.

After a few month of chat room adventures I went back to the easieness of P4P.

Well, a lot depends on where you do your business. If you like Futian, the Grand Holiday Hotel is pretty good. It's a 4 star deal and it's in a pretty good location. If you prefer Luohu, Hilton is pretty good, although a bit pricey. Hilton is near just about everything major in the city.

You are right. I stay at CP because many of my meetings are nearby. The CP is nice but expensive and a bit out of the way from Luohu, Jusco and other areas. But its convenient for my 9-5 job.

Yes, Shangri-la is not girl friendly after 11pm and the security people will ask many questions.

I was in Shenzhen on 4th March. As guided, I took the subway to Kexe. And walked upto Jusco. I was lost a bit there as the reports here mentioned that back alleys. After prowling around for some time went under the arch to see the opening for the back side of the Jusco complex. Got down from the steps, crossed the road and bang infront there was a Massage Parlour. The time was around 11. 30 am. Perhaps I was one of the first customers. Language was an absolute problem. Had to communicate with the help of a calculator. Papasan quoted Y88 for two hours. Took a petite girl. Looks-8, boobs - 7 (around or less than 32a), GFE - 9.

It was a wonderful experience. Asked her to do a handjob and got out after nearly 1 and a half hour. Even today I remember the sweet experience. The girl asked Y200 but bargained for Y70 and ultimately felt happy to give her Y100.

It happened about 10 months ago and I forgot most of the details, sorry. This is what I recall, there was a crack down in progress. I saw LE walking and stopping people asking questions. Motorcycle cops were zooming in the narrow alleys. They were making people run around the place causing havoc. The place had a lot less girls than when I first went there about 3 years ago. I assumed most were upstairs hiding.

I first saw her playing cards outside a store. She told me she had girls and I followed her to her store few blocks away. Her store was NOT located in the narrow dark alleys. Her shop was located in a street that was much wider and the outskirts of Sha Tsui. It was not your normal BBS but a store with goods like food, drinks etc. She was wearing running shoes with short socks, had medium length hair, wearing short hot pants with a red hat. Overall, I would say she is average built, short 5-2”, 30's, good looking if she was younger. After looking at her girls, I walked away but returned in 10 mins. When I came back, she playing cards again. She speaks Cantonese and Mandarin and a little English.

For the girl I picked up, remember her damn cell rang about 5 times and she stops to talk, around 5th call, she strongly wanted to leave so we both got dressed. I am now facing four people and they ganged up on me outside the apartment. The older lady threatened me, SCREAMING at me in Mandarin and making a seen. Lucky it was late after 1:30am. The older lady threatened to call some people over to beat me up. She said that a few times and I understood it, even with my limited Mandarin. She was heavier set, a little taller than the others and older around late 50’s. She was wearing an almost beige long silk dress outfit with a Mandarin collar. The girl I picked up, and the guy stayed out of it. Both of them didn’t say anything during the argument.

Everything happened quickly, less than 5 minutes. There was too much of a language barrier when I tried to explain about the very very poor service. I finally gave up since it wasn’t worth $150RMB. In the past, I have ALWAYS paid what was agreed but I just want to make it known (complain) to the mamasan. When leaving, at the end, the lady with the red hat said sorry about everything.

What happened to you Johnny? Any info on your Mamasan like a biz card or number?

Yes in my experience Hilton is very girl friendly at all times that I have tried (pre 2 am).

They have a big security guard in front and he looks in your eyes everytime but if you look back etc. No questions asked. Atleast for me.

Also I never paid him ever.

The street east from hilton has many opportunities.

But watch out for trannies etc.

The massage places are all on the main street opposite Seibu. It's tough to miss 'em actually, with all the touts.
