No need to go anywhere on Sunday except CJs coz the rest of the town will close thier door on this day! Oh yes perhaps Aphrodite & Stadium is open on Sunday but really dead quiet!
As for the Bar in Ritz , was there recently but really dead quiet!

Great idea Daijek, maybe I could pick up some pointers from those 'more in the know" about these matters. I think that a visit to Jakarta between 14th to 17th September would probably be on the cards for me. Actually, I want to go this month but I have little enough time and want to go scuba diving (in the sea, in the sea you filthy minded people;)) as well. It's time for some careful planning.
If that coincides with your visit B69, I'd be happy to keep to my word and ease your financial woes by getting those drinks and Menteng too if he's around. He was kind enough to guide my cab to his haunt in Pangeran Jayakarta on one of my previous trips.
As for the KL gang, any thoughts as to the timing? Better organise a meeting at Gazebo guys, it must be so nice right now with the delightful haze enveloping KL. Meanwhile I'm searching for a missing SD card from my camera wich contains enough to turn Home Minister into War Minister. I'm normally pretty good about these things but I cant seem to remember where I hid the damn thing this time.

Too lazy to venture to other place. However, CJ is packed yesterday and so well, got myself 1 there for short time. She say she is a Uni student, cant stay overnight (8am has to go to Uni etc etc). Oh well, what the heck I thought. The act itself I would rate ordinary, nothing great to write about, but at least I got myself off-loaded without stepping 1 feet out from my hotel... Yeah, I am lazy.. :)

I'm a frequent traveller to Jakarta, at least 2 x a year since 1997.
Since I am an Indian, born in South America, living in Holland and travelling at least 6 x to the East i am well known to the nightlife in JKT, which is my personal favourite.
Most of the time I stay away from Blok M since its not the type of environment I am used too.
I frequently visit Lokasari for the beauties and ST's.
In the Nightlife i enjoy most of the time 2 spots.
Starting the evening at De Leilah at Gatut Sobroto, nice selection of girls there, young and willing. In the past I had very good experiences there with young ladies Bandung, petite but huge firm breasts. Also nice thin and tall javanese from Surabaya. Except Blok M most places are open on sundays. In fact even in Blok M on Sunday, about a couple of weeks back I was there and visited My Bar. Yes it was vacant except for a very few girls upstairs and the Jakarta All womaen's band was playing. Most girls were not there. But there is enough action in most places. I have not been to 30+ and Bats on sundays. But all other places I have listed here has enough meat available.
Most of the time that I have been to Ritz, the action starts after 1 am. And especially Friday nights is what I have been there always between 1 and 2 30 and some good looking girls around, and available. Only once did I venture on a weekday. Yes girls werre hardly there but I did manage to score one and have already done a FR. But yes, in case you try before 1 am, even on Friday, the girls are very few. No! When I was there, only a couple of guys were from Colombia and they did not play any Colombian music. I wanted to request some Spanish songs, but the guys were too busy with by girls who wanted to go out with those guys.

The tavern band I said was from Bali. Yes its a good band.
The comlumbian band is palying at Ritz. Thas what I wrote. The girl who sings in Ritz, I said used to sing before in tavern. She shifted her job from the balinese band at tavern to the columbian band in Ritz. I guess you got it wrong here.
Never seen a colombian band in Tavern.
The current Band in Tavern from Bali is really good and I like the way Clif sings Pink Floyd's Brick on the Wall. Never heard anyone sing that better than him anywhere else,
The Band in Ritz, though Colombian, they have a few Indonesians. And the drummer himself is married to an Indonesian.
And what he says is that even the CJ's band is colombian, though they dont claim so. And he tells me that most bands where you find any Bule is colombian, though the hotel may tell they are from Australia or US. These bands are well settled in Indonesia and they have their families here.
Anyway Dorman, yes the current band in Tavern, is good. Its called Music Makers from bali and is NOT colombian

Ok sorry for the confusion John, I reread your post and see that you did mention the Ritz, I didn't realise there were more than one Colombian band here.
So for clarity's sake I will state there is no Colombian band in the Tavern, but there is a Colombian band in Styx (Park Lane Hotel, great steaks) which for Jose's benefit does do a Latin set.
The bands in BATS are usually Canadian, though in the past, it was thought because the bald manager was also Canadian and preferred to hire likewise.
Unusual experience last night out with a very happily-married coworker (there goes most of the fun). He wanted to leave bats for mybar, and on the way out, I bumped into an old girlfriend I hadn't spoken with since last year. She was on her way inside and invited us to share her 3 bottles (of what i dont know). Me again I was wondering if you could offer any reason as to why the Tavern is turning into the venue for Jakarta's burgeoning lesbian scene? And before any forum member gets excited let me assure you these lesbians don't look like the ones in a Ron Jeremy movie, no siree.
There's a group of about a dozen seiously dodgy looking dykes which hang around near the stage drinking beer out of those big bavarian mugs and smoking cigars. On weekend I'd say Musro or Manhattan (if it still exists), but since you are on a weekday, I'm not so sure.
1-2km away is Jln Jaksa, but since you are in a 5*hotel, it might be too downscale for you. Same distance is Tavern in Aryaduta. (Threewheeler 5,000IDR to get there)
Get to Jaksa for some relaxed beer, then better take a cab, get yourself to the other hotel bars, because BB doesn't have a bar like Meridien, Mulia or ShangriLa.

I sent you a PM. But anyway, I have wriggled myself out and am back in Jakarta after missing my flight. Never ever, I repeat, never ever try and get picked by a Russian female in Bangkok. Arrived in Jakarta at 5pm Jakarta time after 2 hours trip from KL via KLM. Guys if you’re travelling from KL you must grab the offer of RM350 + RM45 Taxes via www.klm.com.my but advance booking of at least 3 days is required but subjective to supply & demand. Anyway it is defiantly much more comfortable & they serve meals & drinks on board & flying via KLMs Boeing 747-400 is more comfortable than via AirAsia Boeing 737-???. Trust me it’s calmer in a 747 compared to a 737 during bad weather!
Took 1 of BlueBird Taxis from the outside Taxi Stand of which you’re required to pay an extra surcharge of 10,500 Ruppiah (I’m not sure if this includes or excludes the toll charges). Anyway as I speak Bahasa Malaysia which is similar to Bahasa Indonesia I was able to have a decent chat with the supir (driver) of the taxi. I knew I was in trouble coz he kept on complaining of how bad his income was yesterday and I knew I was going to get ripped off by this cabbie. Anyway did not want to allow this idiot to spoil my mood as I was finally going to meet the great Bulai69 who was staying at his regular hotel paid by his client (bloody lucky fella). Anyway true enough the damn cabbie wanted 95K when I arrived at Cipta Hotel (based on a recommendation of another senior here) and even though I asked him to calculate the entire trip cost bearing in mind that the meter showed 70K+ plus the surcharge of 10.5K + 6.5K Toll money should be less than that but I just paid what he wanted as I wanted to rush over to meet Bulai.
I called our common friend & as my Indo phone pre-paid card had run out of ‘pulsa’ (credit) I wanted to top it up at the phone concession stand just outside of the hotel. Anyway found out that you have to top up the card before it expires or you’ll lose the number. Anyway coz Indonesian Pre Paid cards are cheap especially if your using it only in Jakarta I bought another ‘simPATI Perdana’ plan for 29K + 100K top up and had enough to use for my 6days 5 nite trip to good ole Jakarta.
Lo & behold by the time I called Mr A, both Bulai69 & Mr A was at my hotel & since I had nothing planned we proceeded to his hotel and I was introduced to his ‘model’ looking babe & equally ‘model’ looking sister of the other ‘model’. As our Bulai69 had to settle some personal issues with his babe, I proceeded to catch up on Jakarta’s latest with Mr A, Ms O & Mr C (Mr A’s friend) and I knew that my friend has finally found the girl of his dreams after watching him & her going up to their room via the hotel’s lift! Yummmmm a nice bum! Pardon my pun!
Anyway as soon as we were able to get rid of the ladies both Bulai & me joined by Mr A & Mr C, went ladies hunting at the usual hunting ground, now my memory is not serving me well I’ll just mention the hotels we visited & I’m sure you’ll know where to look for them. 1st stop was the Bar @ LeMeridian as Bulai wanted to introduce me to Ms (can’t remember her name) but she came strongly recommended coz Bulai had a good time the previous time he came & she was his 1st conquest. Anyway she’s always here & you can see her photos at Bulai’s previous posting!
Unfortunately she wasn’t my type coz she was too much of a pro and we proceeded to the Bar @ Mulia and this was truly a happening place but the stocks there was all in a killing mode & were all asking for minimum 1M IR and above & after a few tries we moved on to the Ritz Carlton and it was amazingly quiet for a Wednesday night! Well not wanting to sleep alone I decided to try my luck & see if I could pick up Bulai’s recommendation at LeMeridian and luckily while waiting for her at the lobby she waltzed by & we called her & told her that I wanted her for the night. Anyway I was warned not to talk about price but to lay her first then pay her 300K IR after the job for true enough she asked for USD 100. But I stick to the ‘market rate’ of 300K which was what Bulai paid to her but guys if you want to do this, my method is to ensure you keep enough money in your wallet just for the nights outing & the exact amount to pay her or she may ask for what ever’s left in your wallet. Anyway she was a pretty god lay but too pro for my liking but ho the heck cares all I wanted was a lay and I had one. I gave her the $ & walked her down to the streets & say goodbye despite all the Bull Shi@ she was telling me.

The next day I woke up and decided to change my hotel coz I needed something more comfortable so that Mr A could also stay with me during my stay instead of renting a room in Jalan Jaksa. I went to Sahid Jaya Hotel with Mr C hoping to use his local ID card to get local rates but was told that the only room available was the superior rooms @ close to 600K and decided since the price was similar to the price quoted for a 1 room apartment in Batavia Apartment I might as well stay there as it has a living hall cum dining area & cooking area in 1 & thus Mr A could stay with me for the entire length of my trip. BTW I paid 550K for the apartment but to me the price was worth if for the facilities. We then proceeded to meet up with Mr A & Bulai at his hotel to say goodbye & plan my day’s events with Mr A. Again I had the pleasure or shall I say pressure (you know where!) of meeting Bulai’s babe & him & waited for him to finish his 1 last shot before returning back to from where he came from. As I was tired by the time Bulai left I told Mr A we would meet up at 7pm for Dinner & then proceeded to meet up with another recommendation from Chalky, Ms K but unfortunately she was detained by another bule (too bad), anyway Mr A immediately went into B mode and called Ms I, another Chalky’s recommendation and she agreed to meet at Aphrodite’s Bar at Taman Rasuna at about 11.30pm. Since we had all nite free, I said OK.
Arrived at Aphrodite & man was this place packed with Bules & Babes, big difference compared to my last visit! And there were many good looking babes that I would love to go to bed with but since we had promised Mr A’s friend Ms I, we waited for her but in the mean time I was approached by a lady and I had to tell her ‘Sorry, coz I was waiting for Mr A’s friend’ otherwise I wouldn’t mind going back with her. You guys should check our Aphrodite, coz it has some nice babes! Not sure about the market rate there though!
Ms. I arrived with 1 female friend which was way too old for my liking and surprising Mr C who happened to be with her. Now to tell the truth Ms I is not my cup of tea as I prefer them more younger looking or at least the so called ‘innocent’ look, saw quite a few in Aphrodite but stuck to my promise & bought this ladies & us drinks & food. Anyway we went looking for clubs that closed late coz Jakarta police is conducting raids on these establishments and thus the only place that opened after 3am was Stadium and again I saw a few nice ‘young’ things that I could have picked up but again being gentleman (or stupid) I stuck by my girl & promise to Mr A that I wont choose another girl!
We went to Papa’s café for our supper & by that time all was either high or drunk from the booze except me coz I don’t drink (Surprise! Surprise!) and we had a good supper but guess what????? The damn girl left with the local Chinese & I was left with her friend (whom my aunties would look better than her) and thus I told Mr A to follow me back to the Apartment. I was truly disappointed with tonight’s outing but I guess life is never perfect! Spoke to Mr A & told him I was disappointed but told him I didn’t blame him but asked him to be more careful in selecting girls for me. Anyway Chalky, I guess she didn’t like me coz 1) I wasn’t bule 2) maybe I too small sized for her being Asian?

Awoke and was looking forward to a wonderful day and we went to Blok M mall to have lunch & realized that this is a good place to go mall hunting but be careful coz a lot of locals hang out here! We woke up & it was a day on anticipation as I was going to meet up with Ms P. Me again I was wondering if you could offer any reason as to why the Tavern is turning into the venue for Jakarta's burgeoning lesbian scene? And before any forum member gets excited let me assure you these lesbians don't look like the ones in a Ron Jeremy movie, no siree.
There's a group of about a dozen seiously dodgy looking dykes which hang around near the stage drinking beer out of those big bavarian mugs and smoking cigars. Their number seems to increase every week and they seem well connected. I notice the singer, the attractive slim one, regularly joins them during breaks and they seem to be friendly with the older Japanese gentleman who occasionally sings on stage.
Have you any info on them? They are beginning to put me off my stone fried steaks!
The Japanese guy is the President Director of one of the leading Musical companies of Japan which is also a automobile company. It is a fortune 500 company. I dont wanna name it here. And he sponsors the Band. He in fact has got the male singer Clif, to cut a disc and the video shoot is currently on for the musical album.
The girls who hang out in front of the bar, all are not available, but some are. But the ones in the far end are. The girls come down from the stage because that is the designated dance floor. And what they do is that they try and get them to dance to keep some excitement on.
I know all the three female singers and none of them is available. The tall lean one is got a boyfriend in Denpasar who is also a pretty well known musician. The lean small one is hooked up with an expat who frequents the place and they are getting married.The fat one, the best of the lot in terms of the voice is also engaged.
The girls of the band have always been good from the time the first girl who got married to the British guy and has now moved to UK. The replacements who came in were from Jakarta and one girl was picking up guys on the sly and Clif sacked them on the spot and brought twin sisters from Makassar.
I know the band pretty well. They are friendly folks. Maybe next time you are there when I am, maybe I could introduce you to them. You will then know they are friendly people.
But am sure you like their music.

The thing is that Tavern is more known as the Oil and Gas place. In sense that most expats who frequent this place are regulars who are from the Oil and Gas Industry. And I understand that these folks get monthly off days which is continuous. And the girls who are there are all the Suppose Girl Friends of these guys while they are in Jakarta. These girls cling together always because their expat boyfriends work together in the rigs. They always pile on together. And most of these guys normally stay in Aryaduta while they are in Jakarta and these girls join them. And when these guys leave Jakarta the girls go back to their shanty places. In case I am not mistaken these girls have all introduced their own friends to their boy friends colleagues and while their boyfriends are in the rigs they all stay together too and move around together.
But I am not aware that they are lesbians. Maybe, I can check it out for you, during the week.
And the singers being friendly with them is mainly because even they stay in Aryaduta itself and whenever these girls stay with their boyfirends they get to meet the singers in the restaurant and the swimming pool and other common areas.
I dont think there is anything beyond this, but in case you are keen can find out for you, because I know almost all of them there including the hostesses. And the ones whoch are available are always in teams because when they scout around for guys and dont get their pick by about 11 pm, they move to other places such as Stix.to continue the hunt. So they move in pairs. And from Stix they move to Retro if they fail to find anyone.
Just like the BATS girls move to Retro via CJ's and 30+, these girls move to Retro via Stix.

I was at Mybar last night in Blok M. I ordered a beer and handed over 100 000Rp. The waiter took it then I believe he switched it to 1000Rp and shone his lighter on it, indicating I had only given him 1000Rp. I was pretty sure that I'd given him 100 000Rp but couldn't be certain.
Then later that evening, I paid 50 000 to a bartender for a beer and never got my change. I then bought an orange juice for a girl and it was a long wait to get my change, I felt as though they were trying to keep it. I remember that place used to have these awesome waitresses, very friendly and now they've moved to mostly male wait staff. I don't like the change.
Anyway, hopefully mine was a one off experience.
The women were bountiful. One hot little number in a slinky black dress. My god these women can get all dolled up. I was really tempted, but clearly she's been around. In the end, once you get those clothes off a lot of those girls have awesome bodies. Went with a cute 23 year old from Medan, whose working as a waitress here. She didn't ask for any money but I gave her 300 000Rp. I'd like to see here again, though she didn't give good bj, if was an awesome GFE. I know that's a ploy some dirty taxi drivers will try so you have to be sure and show the money instead of just handing it to them. In regards to paying a waitress. It does take a long time to get change back from them. It takes a long time from the bartenders to give back change. The whole cashier thing in Indonesia is really made overly a long process. But when giving it to the waitresses it takes even longer as they are walking around serving other customers while they wait for your change, and My Bar can get awfully crowded. The bartenders are basically within a certain geographical range where they aren't trying to walk between the patrons of the bar.
My Bar closing at 2am is a first for me. Was it a sunday night you were there? That normally is the absolute slowest night of all.

Last month on my way to Jakarta's airport in a Blue Bird taxi my business partner asked the driver how to get a Blue Bird taxi at the airport.
He said that there are booths (Silver Bird/Blue Bird) outside the customs area, where all the Limo services and hotel reservation services are located.
You can book a Blue Bird taxi at the Blue Bird booth and they will call the taxi forward (probably from the gaggle of Blue Birds just outside the airport's main gate).

Yuk. Absolutely not pleasant. Hand over money in good faith and then they pretend you have given too little.. pff. Very annoying. Especially if you intend well. Seems to happen in taxi's (non blue or silver bird) quite often, where some a-hole drivers count on that you're drunk and aren't paying any attention.
But honestly, it will surprise me if it is a regular occurence in MyBar. In fact, I remember the opposite a few times, when I accidently did not pay for or underpaid my drinks when it was very busy and I was buying a number of rounds.
BTW, what I've found very convenient is, if I'm out with a girl, letting the girl order and pay for the drinks, arrange taxi's etc.
You are right. It takes a long time to get the money back in my bar, but it comes back, even in the right amount.

I don't stick my neck out so often, but it's impossible to get ripped at my bar. I had a small issue in the past (which after thought) i actually think was my fault, and it was reversed on my credit card. I even received a phone call notifiying of such.
Introduce yourself to Nadia, she's the cute looking one with monstrous breasts, and wink and smile every time your there, leave a reasonable tip, 50k or so, and you are sorted and looked after for ever.

Wad the best advice is to run a tab, then you just go to the cash desk when you're ready to go it's well lit there, you call over your waiter and you can see your bill, count out your cash and check your change then slip your waiter a tip and you're not hanging around. I always used to get Richard to serve me, he could always spot me enter and was over in a shot to shake my hand and get my order and he was never hard to find when I needed a refill, sure I always gave him a fair tip at the end of the night but that's why tipping is such a mutually beneficial process.

I think this police crackdown is a good thing. I never stay out past 3am anyway. Them forcing the clubs to close at 3am gets rid of the age old pain in the butt where the girls want to stay at the club until the sun comes up. There's nothing worse than staying up the entire night then taking a girl home and being too tired to shag.
As far as the drugs, I think that is also a good thing. I dont do drugs and I try to avoid the girls who do (I know that's sometimes tough).
I dont see how this affects my hobby at all. I think it's going to be an enhancement. My hobby is having sex with these girls, not staying up all night taking drugs.

Just getting home from Bangkok, and what an assault on the senses it is compared to JKT. I am just not used to the mass confusion of the place in general, and the sights in the bars in particular. I kind of feel sorry for the girls stuck in their g-strings dancing in front of a near-empty bar, with nothing to do but look at themselves in the mirror for hours on end.
Anyway, finally picked one up the last night in town, and she had too much to drink, so I let her pass out figuring there was plenty of time the next morning before my flight. I totaly agree with XXL. The night life will not be the same without drugs. Check out Millenium, without XTC that place wouldn't be that jumpy. I stopped that a few years ago, but I think I still can see, if somebody is "on"or "off". In Millenium or Stadium, the majority is on drugs. I guess you all know that. Look at some BATS or 30 girls.., some of them can't go out without having a "snowfall" session befor they hit those spots.
I know a girl which "supplies" the blok m scene. Plenty of customers.
There will still be a nightlife, no doubt about that, but it will change.. Jakarta will not be the first SEA town which will have this experience, look at KL, BKK etc.

I'd like to continue internetting when I'm in Jakarta, but on my own computer. So recently I bought a notebook/laptop computer with wifi.The thing is I don't know how it works.
Is all I have to do, visit a Starbuck's, order a coffee, sit down, switch on the laptop and click on the Internet Explorer/Netscape icon to start? I mean, here in Europe with my desktop computer I have to subscribe first to a provider.

To enable wi-fi, there will be a swich on your computer to turn it on or off. Mine has a tiny swich for that in the front left hand side of the notebook. You also need to go to control panel, network connections - there should be an option there called "wireless network connection". Right click on that and click on "enable". Then right click on that again and choose "view wireless network connections". If there are any available, you will see them. Choose the one with the strongest signal that is not password protected, click "connect". Then use internet explorer. It should connect if you have your internet settings set to obtain IP address automatically. You can check that by right clicking the "wireless network connection" choice again and going to properties.
This is all assuming that Starbucks even has wifi in Jakarta. I have no idea since I've never carried my computer to a Starbucks to try it out.

First the obvious - you'll need a wireless card - most laptops that are fairly new will have wireless built in.
When you first start your browser it will find the site (I don't remember the provider at the Starbucks in Jakarta) and ask you to log on. I assume you don't have a local account. There will be an option for you to use a credit card to buy time or you will be able to use an existing account from another service provider - for example I have a T-Mobile account from the States and I'm able to log on using that. I'm probably not explaining it well but they make it pretty simple to use.

I agree with Smoothy's point 100%; if you haven't got a girl by 2am in Jakarta you'll never get one (an unlikely prospect). If you have, hanging around till 4am is a pain the backside and cost money, then you're knackered the next day because you didn't sleep till maybe 6am.
It's worth noting however, just in case you can't get out hunting until after 2am (when many clubs close now) that the Sarinah area has livened up considerably in the past couple of months and caters for clubbers who find it too early to go home. There is an Oh La La cafe as well as Starbucks and McD there and it's a popular pick up place. I got two hp numbers there on my last trip even though I was another girl (the expensive one I've written about already)
By the way, should anyone be interested in the girl in question, I've definitely moved on now, encouraged by her having been to see, first, a new car and then, through an agent, a new house for me to buy for her. I bought the car as it was only 50,000 US dollars but drew the line at the 800,000 US dollar house. Just kidding by the way - not about her expectation though.

Maybe what I should have said is my kind of p4p places. What I really meant is that he is not (yet ?) go after the commercial sex scene.
I'm not saying that all the girls/women that I frequented are drug free, but at least I don't get them in places where drugs is being sold. From my limited experiences, they perform OK. GFE (i.e. not too mechanical) and willing to please. That's my friend is more than enough for me.
Also maybe now that all those places are prone to be raided for drugs, you need to expand your hunting ground, hunt different breed of girls. I'm sure you know lots of other places in Jakarta that offers fun with less chance of being raided for drugs.

Menteng and anyone else that users the internet via wifi in jkk should do so at New York Cafe in plaza indonesia. They supply 1 hour wifi cards using cbn for free and if you ask nicely (and order regularly) you can get hours worth for a couple of cokes.
Starbucks charge for exactly the same card. 40,000 rups for the hour and the connection down there seems to drop out more often.
When it comes to Hi-Fi, girls and e, i dont think i have been to a destination where it is used as much as indonesia. You can get it anywhere, i have seen a waitress selling at Planet Hollywood. Any guy out there that thinks they are chowing down on a girl that isnt "on" at 4am in the morning is naive. Every venue all over jkk is riddled with it. Havent you noticed that Hard Rock cafe even gets very "techno" at times. It's a pity really because i dont think there is much live music in jkk anymore worth listening to.

One is always tempted to pass judgement but then again insanity is often shortlived so we should pass on that as well and enjoy the climate of Jakarta instead.
On my last two visits have been as fortunate as ever but not so fortunate financially as our dear friend.
But I can answer one riddle for all recent visitors who have been wondering what all the demonstrations in Jend Sudirman particularly in the area of Sarinah have been all about.
Unfortunately for Sarinah it is at the wrong end of Le Meridien and therefore the largesse of our friend Bulai has not reached these parts. Needless to say this has caused some angst in the area of Jalan Jaksa and therefore we felt the need to express ourselves.
We hope that this has not caused too much inconvenience to our patrons however we felt obliged to do so on hearing rumours of houses and cars.
Needless to say my next report shall return to some more serious matters - like for example KLGUy and his wonderful blacking out of a face whose body has already adorned these pages. Needless to say his reporting on Miss T is wonderfully apt as she has a tendency to pledge loyalty to all - am a beneficiary as use her name to book my hotel and obtain local rates !!
However Caveat Emptor as her brother is a senior enforcement officer in the airport therefore please be nice to her or face some interesting questions on the way out !! Last report on his activities they shot dead some smugglers off Jalan Jaksa - this perhaps explains why her face is blacked out - syabas KL Guy

Am indebted to our friends at Macdonalds for the ability of comparing real currency rates via the price of a Big Mac - my only question would be does this apply to our own activities ?
My latest foray into the world of pricing was in McD Sarinah - on the way out I saw a group of 10 office girls having their friday dinner and emboldened by the fact that they sat near the door and a joke about how one should always close the door - began the offence. There was one in a figure hugging black dress and as she was deputised to get the next round it was easy to seperate her from the herd. A quick exchange and exchange of numbers.
The next day alas I was in Bandung but played via sms until my return - at which point she called me and asked me what i was doing. As I was cape and a certain Miss T appeared at the same time in my room it seemed all was over. Now the advantage of Miss T is that she can be told that you have a meeting at 1230 in Pasar Rebo and would not be back again that night and she does not bat any eyelid.
This then leaves one free to head off to the hunting ground of Bulai - not my usual venue - and a nice evening to be had. Now all would have ended there apart from the dancing became more suggestive and she asked to come home with me.
That was the prelude to a night that left the hotel wondering what was happening the bed shaking literally - and me the poor sap being asked after 4 engaging sessions - in the space of 3 1/2 hours of being asked would I consider cialis as this would mean I could go further !!
Now for the funny part when she left one gave a token of appreciation as all gentlemen of our calling do - a small one as a test - within an hour she phoned me and asked would I like her to top up my pulsa as she had exhausted said pulsa the night before (should this be included in my costing !!)
So there you have it a wild session unlike any other I have experienced in Jakarta - especially in terms of positions - was encouraged to run the whole gamut of the karma sutra including some novelties on her behalf that I thought might break my poor "little brother" in half.
The cost including entrance to 30 - drinks and the pulsa expended on the exercise ( being an accountant i believe in the full costing method) - Entrance and Drinks (350K) - Pulsa (100k - well worth the investment and thank heavens it was not on global roaming) - Donations (300k) - so all in a grand total of 750k for an average of less than 200k
Perhaps those fellas in McD have something going for them after all.
MDII - yes sister as well - but she didn't know. And hey, I can rationalise my extravagance even further: firstly, all my expediture in Jakarta goes through my (one man) company books as an expense so is tax deductable. Yes even "fees" to girls who I describe as "freelance consultants" - so there is 40% off at a stroke. Secondly, some of the expense is capitalisable in my accounts (eg certain extravagent presents) and hence can be written down. Thirdly, some of the expenses can be charged back to clients (nakal sekali). So at the end of all this, I'm getting around 65% discount courtesy of Tony Blair - so how can I refuse?

Thank you for pointing out the omission in most of our costing here. It's so easy to omit the cover and drinks charges when we're thinking of the cost. And I think most of us have probably done the pulsa top up too and neglected to cost that one in. No wonder, I always seem to find less cash in my pocket than I think should be there.

Reason being I have never seen him as "one" - a more appropriate moniker would be "multi-talented tax consultant provides personal services with focus on Indonesian business market - advice is given on the basis of buyer beware. Prices may vary depending on season and all final negotiations are at the discretion of the parties involved."
As for the last few threads it is amusing to see how we all seek to justify our expenditure - and as for the disappearing cash - it is amazing how much ends up in the hands of sweet young things - that is the greatest mystery of all.
However beware of the floods - of tears that is - when you depart as this means they have to seek another consultant to advise them on the art of love !! And as prices vary depending on the negotiating skills you may be their best bet !!

MDII - actually the benefit is mainly due to capital gains tax (40%) avoidance by virtue of the fact that cash is not being left in the company (eventually to attact CGT) and the associated fact that it isn't being taken out as salary (on which tax would be 40%) Either way all my mongering attracts a 40% discount on top of which there are capitalisation opportunities and charge back opportunities. Of course none of that is an excuse for being a total prat paying (even with discount) about 3 times what you need to!
All you need to convince your accountant of the legitimacy of the payments (to freelancers) is an email but I've gone a step further and got proper documentation and rubber stamps. In fact I have been investigated by the revenue on the grounds that how come a Director is earning a salary of under £5000.00 a year and yet spends £100000 a year on travel, hotel and "administrative support". However I got away with it no problem!

On another note, your tax still looks horribly high, and your company gets charged CGT and not corporate tax? 40% is not on the scale at all in Malaysia - in fact way over. The worst rates for expats here is 28% - same as corporate tax. MSC (Multimedia Super Corridor) status companies here get 5 years tax free from 1st invoice out. That means my expenses wont quite have the same benefit as yours.

Me thinks a convention of the League of Gentlemen Accountants is in order to best work towards a new world order !! Illuminating on the subject and one where a lot of thought and creativity has been expended to ensure the tax effectiveness of our activities.

But to answer your point - NB I'm taxed in UK - yes my company does pay Corporation Tax (around 20%), but the main problem is that if I take a salary from the company and then use that income to spend on girls and the like, it would be taxed at 40%. (over about £30k) Not only that, I will have to pay CGT on the difference between what was in my company at inception (nothing) and what is in it when I wind it up. And that will be at 40% also. So obviously the more I can take out in "expenses" the better.

Only two days after 68 foreign sex workers were arrested in several nightclubs, saunas and beauty salons, city police announced on Friday that they had arrested 70 more foreign sex workers.
Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Firman Gani said the police also arrested four alleged pimps who had brought the women to the country and provided them with accommodation.
"Together with previous arrests, we have detained around 180 foreign workers. We are still examining who committed immigration offenses. If they abused their visas by working as sex workers we will deport them as soon as possible.
"If their visas are valid, they will be allowed to stay," he said.
Firman added that the women, who come from China, Uzbekistan, Russia and other East European countries, were liable to be tried at court if it was discovered that they committed other crimes, such as drug trafficking.
He said the police were questioning the four pimps to find out whether they were members of a syndicate as well as to locate their associates.
The raids, conducted under the Kencana Pura operation, are the first against foreign sex workers in the capital.
"We will continue the operation until Jakarta is void of foreign sex workers. We suspect that many other foreigners are likewise abusing their visas, as we have arrested so many of them in so few days," Firman said.
Observers suspect that the police and the immigration office are collaborating with people to protect foreign sex workers, since little had previously been done by the two institutions to eliminate such workers from capital. -- JP

What you're saying IMHO makes more sense that what about 99% of the so called experts are saying. Conventional wisdom is that the fuel subsidies are what's causing Rupiah and stock market weakness. But that sounds like bull crap to me, given that higher oil prices mean the government makes just about as much off of Pertamina and taxes from oil companies as it pays out in increased subsidies. If the government suddenly removes the subsidy there's going to be rioting in the streets. And that combined with higher inflation would be enough to send the Rupiah and the market on a downward spiral.
Anyway, it looks like the powers that be are wiser than some of the foreign analysts. The central bank appears to be getting serious about raising interest rates, and SBY says the government may gradually start reducing subsidies, but not before October. Admittedly, reducing the subsidies, gradually, is a good idea, so the market can operate more efficiently, and the government can devote more resources to infrastructure, education and health.
My prediction: 11,700 Rupiah/USD the other morning was the best opportunity for restocking one's Indonesian *****mongering Fund that we'll see for a while.

What are the preferred hotels that are guest friendly in Jakarta? I know the city is spread out without a true central area. I would be looking for a hotel not too far from the 5-star hotels and their upscale bars & girls for easy access back to my hotel. I was considering the Crowne Plaza, Mercure or Ibis Arcadia. Alex, if you were a senior member, or at least a regular member who's made a few useful posts, then you'd probably be receiving lots of info right now.
But the problem is that you're a newbie, with exactly one post to your name. So realistically, your best bet is to RTFF (read the f-ing forum) and you should find all of the info you desire.
One idea that I'd like to propose modestly is to use the "Search" function to read all of the posts I've written here on the Jakarta board since last fall - there aren't that many, and they'll give you a good idea of where to start.
Better yet, read the posts made by the more experienced posters here, such as Bulai69, Chalky26, Dorman, Menteng, Master Diver II, Ekspat or some other excellent posters.
To help you out a little bit, if you want to stay at a nice hotel with a hot swinging bar in the same building, try staying at Shangri-La and visit the BATS bar, or stay at the Meridien and visit the Tiga Puluh bar (also have dinner at the great Lebanese restaurant there).

Before the bomb the Untitled Club in the Marriott was quite a good spot but lately it was dying on its feet. But at least Jakarta is not as bad as places in the Middle East. There is still some activity in Indonesia but it is hidden and hard to find; also some Indonesian girls are Christian and therefore not affected by the religious rules for behavior during the month of Ramadan.
All in all, my advice for any monger would be to schedule your travel to Indonesia during the other 11 months of the year and avoid the month of Ramadan - go to Thailand instead. But if you do have to be in Indonesia during that time, there should be some action.

By the way, for anyone unfamiliar with the ways of "officialdom" it might be worth relating my experience at the airport yesterday when, on leaving, I found I'd over-stayed my visa by a day. The last time I had overstayed 5 days, instead of paying the $100 usd, I gave the customs guy 150,000 rupiah and he "helped" me with my visa while helping himself to the 150,000. There is nothing that makes those customs guys happier than when you overstay your visa!

I overstayed by one day recently. I thought 7 days was like a hotel where you count the overnights, in a sense. When the guy called me on it, I was running to catch a flight I could not afford to miss. The guy told me that the penalty was $20, and luckily I had a single 20 left in my pocket. He then asked if I wanted a receipt. I said no, knowing that the flight was boarding and I had to get past immigration that moment. He didn't even say thanks for the windfall.

I was plannign on visiting JKT in Mid Oct but may put my plans on hold. Is Ramadhan observed during the entire month of Oct?
ariesman - I think it starts on 4 October and ends a month later, so yes, it's observed throughout the whole month. If you are new to Jakarta and / or don't have existing contacts and you have a completely free choice, it's probably better to go outside that period but frankly it doesn't make that much difference in my experience. Bars and clubs close earlier or don't open at all but how many can you go to in one night anyway?!
Given that the police have tightened up recently, things may be somewhat more resticted this year than in the recent past.

I just spent an hour on slow dial up trying to scope the last ten pages here about PUSSY and most of the posts had little to do with it or did not supply details like where and pricing.
Now staying at Olympic Hotel and the disco remains open until 2:00am with no problems because that is part of their official business. But if you are someone who likes to go out late at a variety of clubs and enjoy a pulsating night scene non-stop, Bangkok is falling far behind now with all the 1:00 a.m. closings.
Jakarta also has more of an intensity about it in some ways.
So, maybe a dead-heat for the moment:
1. Jakarta - Bangkok
3. KL (also happening late night)
4. Manila (but still a shithole; prefer Angeles)
5. Singapore (getting better)
6. HK (too damned expensive)

So would venture the ratings would be reversed ;-
1. Jakarta - more fun if language is not an issue - hence the more civilised tone of the message board - when there is so much to go around we can take a more relaxed attitude
2. Bangkok - very professional and more pretence in the GFE - also in WSG land you are prone to be fired at for any comment that does not fit in with the more established members !!
3. Singapore - the world beats its path to their door - therefore you can have a range of choice that is far wider than anywhere else in the region - however do expect to pay for the privilege. Hence there are fewer posts in this board than others
4= Philippines - a blast if not a little commercial in my humble opinion and not altogether spolit for choice - perhaps a tie with
4= Vietnam - still largely unspoilt and good fun to mooch around in but you have to be in the main centres of entertainment to enjoy the scene
5. Malaysia - can be hit and miss - depending on the time of the month and police crackdowns etc - it is also sometimes more racially dependent - for example as a bulai if I choose a chinese girl nine times out of ten will be rejected as this would be bad for their business ! Ironic really hence the proliferation of beach club and its sister the thai club over the road.

Gentleman, I have been to CGK a few times, mostly for work, and have enjoyed the evenings very much. I am pretty fluent, which helps, and am familiar with quite a few of the places mentionned here.
I am thinking of stopping in Jakarta a couple of days, on my way back to Bali, purely for mongering purposes. Problem is, it will be at the end of this month, which is the end of Ramadam. Though I realize things will be a bit quieter than usual, my question is this.
What do you guys do during the day? I don't stay up until 5.00 AM, thereby needing most of the day to recover, so I am up bright and early. I usually spend these 2 or 3 days in BKK, which has great shopping, massage, etc.
So what is there to do diring daylight hours? Traffic is such that getting around is difficult, no skytrain to make life easier.

Although not stylish, the buses that use the special lane can knock 75% of your travel time down. Especially if you're trying to go from Atrium to Blok M.

Don't know yet about Jakarta (will be landing shortly to find out, nothing like a bit of personal in-depth field research). Can't disagree about other places (AC ahead of Manila by a mile though), but another place jumps to the forefront along with BKK and possibly Jakarta.
Of course it's much smaller and has a more provincial feel to it, but that's part of its very charm, and it's still much larger and exciting than AC. The place's Phnom Penh. I've been there regularly for the past 10 years, as I was progressively getting more and more fed up with the thai attitude problem. PP grows on you, and (maybe like Jakarta ?) is a little bit of an insider's playground. But in terms of attitude, price, choice (where else can you chose between a young pro pale skinned viet or a langorous, soft, tender local) and overall GF quality with local khmer girls, Cambodia should be at the forefront.
I even brought one back home in Europe and we're now living happily ("ever after", in all likelyhood), but that's another story. Doesn't prevent me from falling back into punting mode whenever nature calls, though.

I stayed there last year about in November.
If there was any action, I could not find it. They have heavy security at the gate to the compound.
1 small night club. Mostly guys staying in the hotel and a few local couples.
Maybe things were tight because of the recent bombing that happened a few days before I arrived.
I have not see the hotel mentioned on any boards. I did arrrange a takeout uisng a contact from JohnAldridge.

JAKARTA AFTER DARK
Hey guys,
Having been guilty of lurking around WSG/ISG and for not contributing for so long, partly due to the sad fact that this poor sap has had no experience shout about... finally decided to take the plunge before I hit my big 3-0.
As such, since I'm making a business trip tomorrow here, what better place to break one's mongering cherry than the glorious Sin city of Jakarta itself! (Albeit, one might think, that such a move may backfire: as with the glowing reports of the debauched delights of nubile Indonesian honeys, it could certainly spoil this newbie and leave him wanting more and more. ;-)
One minor snag in this plan however, would be the dreaded/Holy month of Ramadhan, where the pickings might be tremendously slim. What a worse thing that could happen to this naive newbie.
As such, wondering if there's any esteemed mongers out there who's in town between tomorrow and Sunday afternoon, who'd like to meet up / guide / mentor / show-the-ropes. (Note to oneself: must stop blabbering, must be the mental images of those hot brown bodies. Err here I go again)

Hi,
have been reading threads on Indonesia for a while. However i am in Indonesia finally in the month of Ramadan when its practically the most difficult time to find some action here. To top it all my work has brought me out of Jakarta and now am stuck for about two months in Ujung Pandang ( Makassar). If any of you experienced hands can provide me some phone numbers or contacts of anyone you know in Makassar it would help in my survival. All types from interesting college going to MP girls would do for now
Can someone please let me know if Blok M is open on sundays? In particular next sunday October 30, which is close to the end of Ramadan.
