Thanks to both KL Guy and B69 for their kind words. It was an honor for me to meet up with both of you again (we had also gotten together back in December). Membership indeed has its privileges, as the old credit card ad went.

Also met up with Menteng and Mr. A back in December, hope to see both of you again soon now that I'm back in town. Also hope to meet MDII, Panya, Brandon, Pete, Chalky and the famous JAD2 sometime soon.

As for my investment in the Jakarta Stock Exchange, my only problem is that my preference is to be a "day trader" while my stock broker is encouraging me to consider a longer-term investment. But I'm sure that we'll decide on my portfolio soon.

Some loose ends:

Tiga Puluh - was great the last time I was there, on a Saturday night in December, with a decent live band and several fine ladies to choose from

Melawai 6th Floor - stopped by again the other day around 4:45 p.m. The day girls were still on duty and the night crew was starting to show up, so I had over 25 ladies to choose from. Not all were "cantik" but at least 8 or 10 were, not a bad ratio. Also, as I was led to my room, I walked past at least 5 rooms that were occupied by mongers (the clothes hanging on the inside of the doorway blocking the glass is a dead give-away), so presumably that meant 5 other cantiks were on duty. I guess the morale of this story is to keeping walking around with the 2 1/2 year old boy!

I have been an avid reader of this forum for a long time, and have not had much new to add until now. I can confirm that there are on-going shake-downs at the Kota MPs. I was spending a pleasant Saturday afternoon with a SYT in one of the forum's frequently-mentioned establishment. Just before 5:30, her cell phone started ringing off the hook. Finally, someone came to the room and advised us that it was time to go. My girl whispered, 'Time's up...the police are coming.' I dressed quickly, dashed down stairs and found myself in an empty lobby/bar. A papasan opened the already-locked door, and I stumbled out into a deserted street. arrived sunday, and played golf at cengkareng. while waiting at the restaurant, tried to chatup my perennial favourite waitress, p*p*t, and was once again disturbed by a fellow bule golfer who joined our flight the last time we played there. decided to withdraw and watch him in action, and was pretty amused by his moves -- learnt a few good ones as well, i must say.

At the risk of sounding naive, how common is the above offer, i.e. "let's do it in the attached bathroom"? I visit karaoke places about once every five years, so I know very little about how they operate.

Several months ago I was in a karaoke room at the Hotel Central with a young cutie who I had selected from the fishbowl; I tried to get her into the attached bathroom with me, but she didn't seem interested. But my main problem that evening was her lack of English and my lack of Bahasa, so maybe I should try again.

Bro MS, the "Attached Bathroom" is a fairly established phenomena in a few countries in the ASEAN region. In Jakarta, I know that 1001 has attached BEDROOMS, that have hidden doors for hasty exits in case of raids. In fact, the attached bathrooms even come with shower cubicles, soap, and towels.

In KL, the attached bathrooms in karaokes are also used for the quickies with the GROs (we refer to them as Guest Relations Officers, no kidding!), although they are not as luxuriously fitted out as you might be expecting.

Raid capaign is unpredictable. LE raided place in the afternoon, early evening, and late in the evening.

Stay away from incall service for now. If you really have to answer the call of your body, then use outcall service instead, make sure you check-in in a decent hotel.

Charges in 30 range from 300K - 1M but please avoid the latter unless your mind is totally blown and even then negotiate it down. It depends on your luck, negotiation skills, and if the girl 'likes' you.

The rate for the taxi fare depends where you're going to.

At the risk of sounding naive, how common is the above offer, i.e. "let's do it in the attached bathroom"? I visit karaoke places about once every five years, so I know very little about how they operate.

This is a standard practice in this region - as far as I know. I personally prefer somewhere more comfortable and, as far as I can recall, have not been able to come to a successful conclusion in the karaoke toilet. Btw, my next scheduled trip will probably be 10th - 14th April, but my HM will be round from 10th - 11th. Memory card into laptop and send yourself an email with the photo's attached.

I've yet to have any problems and a 1GB SD card is pretty innocuous in your luggage. If in doubt download the photos into your laptop, and then delete them so they go into your recycle bin. Few check in there and you can always restore them later. This also works for the girls: download and look at the photos with them, and then make a big show of deleting in front of them.

Based on a friend who always stays there, there is no extra charges for the lady/ies who accompanies you, and I believe registration is not required. Meridian is quite girl friendly!

As far as I know, Jakarta hotels - like the ones we have in Kuala Lumpur - do not charge or require registration to bring girls to the room. I, personally, went up to the room in Le Meridien with 3 girls at one time (this only happened once Panya!) and the security didn't blink an eye. The only reaction came once they left - I received a call from downstairs inquiring if everything was all right (actually, I found that reassuring). Go ahead and enjoy yourself without those worries.

For the hotels in KL, I stay Renaissance or Nikko usually and as you wrote, no registration needed, but they don't care if the girl walks out in the morning. Had lots of LT's there already and I've never got a call from security downstairs like you described it in Meridien.

Following on from the recent reports from the merry KL crew it is time to join them in the alphabet soup game.

Jakarta has many joys and from the recent reports from Menteng - there is now a good division between Projects and Off the Shelf Solutions - however let us not forget the installed base for they are there to inspire us when all else seems to drop by the wayside or in other words when we are too lazy to do anything or timeschedules do not permit.

1. Miss E - a fine addition to the installed base and reliable enough to be available during office hours but not available in the evenings and for the night - this is useful as it means you can enjoy the afternoon and then prepare for the evening. She did try the "can you get me a new pair of shoes" - which failed and so said "my grandmothers sister is ill and I am going away tomorrow and wont be back until Friday" - what a shame when one is leaving on Thursday !!

2. Miss T - a perennial favorite and "open all hours" - to those who know her rest assured she has just split with her recent Indonesian Boyfriend and informs me that she would welcome calls again !! She arrived on the Wednesday morning - during the Champions League - which is just as well being a Liverpool fan as I needed something to do other than watch Arsenal !! However she nearly caused a stir on Thursday when she wanted to come to the hotel to take me to the airport just as another was arriving in the taxi. Needless to say her ability to disappear on the flimsiest excuse is to be noted.

3. Miss L - this was a rapid pick up from CJ's - the advantage of staying in Mulia although not when you discover that your Indon Partner uses it as his office and all his visitors including one or two Datuks whom I was trying to avoid stay in the same place !! A nice form but alas it seems this habit of short time seems to be catching on in Jakarta which is not a pleasant habit. In addition to which on returning home I realised she had bitten a little too hard into the nipples on my side and have been left with a nice momento - luckily the Home Minister is not that astute to wonder why i keep my shirt on and have been going to bed at 2am when she is fast asleep ! remind me not to take on vampires in the future or at least bring some bread to bed with me in case they get hungry.

4. Miss K - this is a favourite - we thought she had disappeared - and now she is back with a vengeance and what a vengeance it was. She positively marched through the hotel lobby with her new shortened hair - and more amusingly sans tattoos - MDII it appears that they were fake therefore she might yet be the one and the same !! What a magnificent performance and just when it was time to take my leave and check out she demanded one last bbj so that she could smoke me and allow me to leave a taste for remembrance. Such is the beauty of the installed base.

So there you have a nice 48 hours in Jakarta and something old(Miss T - B69) some thing new (Miss L - would not recommend) something borrowed (Miss E - Panya) and something blue (Miss K and what a delight it was too)

What would we do without Jakarta to satiate our every need - and hope you have enjoyed my wittering and now to black out certain features to allow you to see the results !!

Petrol price hike does seem to effect the taxi prices marginally. Read the Jakarta thread in a four month absence and expected the wallet would take a hammering because of the higher price.

Silverbird price airport going to Kemang - 130K. That's only 10k more than last year November. Senayan going to the Airport - 110k. Again only 10k more since the hike.

Taxi's going out of Blok M are still a bit of a nuisance. Arrive there for 20k and the return fare is 50k. 'Stand-by' charges they call it. Normally I just walk around the corner of Falatehan to by-pass the Falatehan taxi's, but lately it rained a couple of times. Any suggestions on how to negotiate a fair deal with these a-holes?

I paid about 350k but the Toyota was immaculate and almost brand new. The reason I accepted was he told me he was contracted to Le Meridien but I think that was bollocks anyhow to het me as his fare.
On the way into the city he lowered the DVD screen and played a Madonna DVD. Poor choice but its along ride.

It's a 20 minute ride. 350 is too much. I used to arrive and find the guy in the suit with my hotel (Intercon) outside of customs. The fee was 120 billed to the room. Unfortunately the ATM only gives 50k notes, so the driver always gets a 50k tip, but recently the fare had gone up to 170k. It's a silverbird, not so nice but who cares for a short jaunt into town?

Silverbird taxi quoted Airport to Le Meridien at airport booth 296k but when i took a silverbird off the rank at Le Meridien back to the airport the meter read less than 100k. I gave him 150k and he was pleased so why the big difference in price from Airport to City???

I had the same experience when I first visited Jakarta, and engaged in a little "heated" debate with the counter.

What they said is that they are "forced" by the hotels to mark-up whenever they send guests to 5-star hotels. This is because the hotels also have their airport 'limousine' transfers, that are priced exorbitantly, and therefore, require the Silverbird people to price at the same levels. Well, this is their explanation, anyway.

Recently, I took the Goldenbird (usually a Camry) from the airport to Soewarna to play golf; it's just less than 10 minutes away. The price quoted was the same as to the city, i.e. Rp 215,000. When I complained, they offered a discount, and I paid Rp 170,000. It seems that the Goldenbirds (and maybe Silverbirds as well) from the aiport are priced by HOURS, with a minimum 2 hours, as compared with using the meter. However, when it's the other way round, i.e. city to airport, they use meters.

Well Gentlemen as i never pay more than 80K Rp for a trip from the airport then i must be "loket" - alternatively perhaps it is the indon twang from a Bule that scares the living daylights out of the taxi drivers !!

2. Manila - for when you are tired of alphabet soup then move to Manila head on down to Burgos and enjoy the delights of the night - including - my most recent two sisters and with the promise of a third to come - and better still they sms me once a week to remind me to come back !!

Then again there is Miss E thanking me for the shoes - I must remember that whilst I save on the taxis that this does not excuse generosity to spoil the market.

Now who can give me the number of Kath the pool player from Aphrodite !!

I guess the taxi scam is down to it being a closed economy.
Wrong terminology, but down here in the stix only certain firms are allowed to pick up at the airport, and you pay at the desk. But, if you time it right and get into a cab that you see someone paying, then you should be able to use the meter. Having said this, at Sby and Jkta, I usually wait to be approached and then tawar. 10 litres and 1\2 days wages = 70k, but if the guy seems ok, lets me chain smoke, carries my bag and doesnt yap on, then i give more.
Good news on the Dolly front, was there last Thurs, (sorry to any reading Hindus),and the place was rocking, loads of totty, everyone in a good mood. It was great to see. I asked about the anti porno malarky, had the police been? Were there any problems? Yes came the reply, extra baksheesh, and an earlier payment. I really dont think I can leave this country!

I tried to catch a departure level taxi as they dropped off a passenger and got run off by security there. The taxi driver and security or police had a long discussion and then the driver waived me back and I got in the cab. I don't speak bahasa so couldn't talk to him about it. He didn't ask any more than what the meter was, so not sure if he paid the other guy off or what. There seemed to be a fear by some of the taxis to pick someone up there on the departure level and the officers were all over the place trying to persuade it. Is there a trick on how to avoid a confrontation with these guys to grab a blue bird there?

Fast Eddie, it costs about US $ 2,- only. There's also a bus heading for Blok M, so if you stay at Hotel Gran Mahakam, it will be a walk of 3 minutes to get there.

It is the Damri bus. Warning: if a taxi takes 30 minutes to get to blok M, the bus will need about an hour, as it stops wherever the passenger wants to get off the bus.

I was in BATS last night and saw a remarkable phenomenon, about half the blokes were salsa dancing. I mean what's that about? They were all dancing like they'd been taking lessons and were prancing around with the chickens who looked like they never had a lesson in their lives. What got me was how desperate these guys seemed to be to appear sexy to the girls; they were strutting their stuff, wiggling their hips, pouting, sashaying and shimmying around while the girls looked on for the most part in bemusement.

Am I missing something here? Did someone change the rules of engagement? You see I always thought it was my job to shove my arse on to a barstool order a beer and then watch the girls all cavorting and posing sexily for me while I made up my mind which one I wanted, if I'm the one who has to prove how sexy I am to them then I'm going to have a lot of lonely nights!

And to think these idiots are probably paying the girls one juta for the privilege of making plonkers of themselves.

I think it depends on some random influx of groups from time to time. In the past, I have seen the following types dominate the place:

--Large numbers of very drunk Aussies - knocking over tables, bumping everyone they stumble past, very loud.

--Young guys, maybe american (just a guess), hanging in a large pack, seemingly overwhelmed by the number of girls. Swaggering around.

--50's-ish white guys, quietly enjoying themselves, but clearly over-paying. By that I mean the ones actually buying a BATS dinner for one or more girls, in addition to the 90,000 rupe premium glasses of wine. BATS food is expensive and not very good at all.

Other times, it is all random.

Speaking of buying dinner, I once made plans to eat with a girl on a blind date. Not feeling up to fighting the traffic, I had her meet me at my hotel to eat there. Figure the buffet with wine will run me close to 600k, but what the heck. She shows up and was not my type in the least way. So I think oh damn, gotta go through with it, and we go up to the restaurant. "Sorry Mister Brandon, we are closed for private group tonight"
YES!! the gods are smiling. So we go to the only other eatery in the hotel - sandwiches and soda. In and out, and away she went without incident.

Then I hailed a taxi and went to CJs. :D

I've not seen exactly what you described in BATS (fortunately) but I fear there is no shortage of middle aged bules who find a variety of ways to make prats of themselves in BATS and similar establishments (eg 30 Bar). I 100% agree with your comments. The same tossers who think they are Brad Pitt or whoever are probably equally deluded when some 19 year old ayam convinces them they are in love with them; only to be relieved (as you say) of 1 juta or so for a 300k session.

luckily it was dark and she couldn't see my face, since i had been thinking that that hotel would be perfect for my next afternoon rendevous!

a few days ago jad had recommended that we stay away from incall places and find a nice hotel instead; since this place has just opened, presumably the rooms are still clean and the sheets/mattresses/pillows haven't gotten all stained yet. if i can remember the name of the hotel, i'll post it here, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

Here's more complete information on the hotel:

It's the Hotel Caravan, located on Jl. KH Mas Mansyur (the north-south road that is parallel to Jl. Thamrin). The banner reads "Soft Opening, 150,000 + breakfast/net" and the building is 4 or 5 stories tall.

The building is located just south and across the street from the intersection with Jl. Kebon Kacang (which is the road that proceeds westwards from the Hotel Indonesia circle past the Ascott and the partially-completed Jakarta City Centre complex).

Hopefully I'll get the chance to stay there soon. If anyone else stays here, please file a report. Considering that it's brand new, it can't be too bad of a place to spend a few hours with one or more cantiks.

Since you have only made 4 posts up to now (including your current request), I doubt if you'll get many replies to your request. Sorry, but you're just going to have to RTFF. Your best bet is to go to the "Reports of Distinction" thread for Indonesia and read the reports highlighted there.

But since I'm in a good mood, I'll try to answer some of your questions:

- yes, they have massage parlors here that are similar to Bangkok. Try the Kartika Spa (my first choice) or its neighbor Berlian. Both are located near the intersection of Jalan Hayam Wuruk and Jalan Mangga Besar.

- Berlian is a massage parlor, not a pick-up bar

- many hotels that have somewhat reasonable rates, including the Mercure and Ibis (both near Kartika), the Hotel Caravan near the HI circle, the Prapanca near Blok M, etc. But you can also bring a girl back to your room, virtually every hotel here is girl-friendly

- the 30 bar is strictly a disco and pick-up bar, located in the basement of a respectable hotel, the Meridien, where rooms probably go for $100 a night. Many of the board's regular posters stay at the Meriden because of the convenient location. Other pick-up bars include the infamous BATS at the Shangri-La, CJ's, and some of the bars at Blok M.

- the Marabaya Spa on the 6th floor at Hotel Melawai is frankly a *****house with up to 30 girls on duty and is nothing like the 30 bar; you go to the lounge on the 6th floor, pick one or more of the girls on duty, rent one of the hotel rooms on the same floor for an hour for 120,000 rupiah, then tip the girl. Read the last few pages for some recent posts on this place.

In fact, that's still the best advice - take 10 minutes to read the board. Girls can be found easily almost everywhere in Jakarta - it's up to you to look where you feel most comfortable.

Please use a condom every time, and please don't overpay! ST seems to be 300,000 or a little more, LT (meaning overnight) 600,000. Don't pay 1 million.

However, may I ask what the location of the Meridien is convenient to? I think it's about as bad a location as there is in Jakarta. It's not convenient to anything (unless you want to go to 30 downstairs in the hotel). I guess it's convenient to plaza indonesia. But who wants to go there? You also can't walk anywhere from that hotel, you always have to take a taxi. Maybe I'm missing something.

Longtime 600k. And i was giving 400k plus taxi money and i thought i was being fleeced. Most girls seemed happy with 400k overnight but didnt look happy with 300k, which was the old LT price three years ago when i was there.
I stayed at Le Meridien and was happy where it was situated but you did have to take taxis everyday. Ambaharra at Blok M would be another good alternative if you wanted to walk and cruise Blok M

Smoothy - well of course if you don't want to go to any of the places that the Meridien is near to then its not "convenient" for getting to any of the places you want to go. Having stayed there for 15 years, off and on, I do feel the need to defend it and certainly can't agree that it's "as bad a location as there is in Jakarta".

As you reluctantly concede, it is very near Plaza Indonesia, hence eX, McDonalds (Sarinah) and OhLaLa both of the latter being open 24hours. Although these locations appear not to interest you; actually, I think they are well worth going to if you're looking to pick up girls which I presume a number of reader are. I've posted many many photographs of girls I've picked up in these 4 locations which are in easy walking distance of each other and only 5 minutes taxi ride even at the busiest time, from the Meridien. Should new readers have any doubts about what can be found in these places, please look back at my postings.

It's also not far to Plaza Senayan and Blok M albeit its on the "wrong" side of the road for going south. But if you want to avoid a long taxi ride you can just walk over the footbridge to the "south bound" side of the road and get a taxi going that way.

The hotel itself is one of the best value 5 star hotels in JKT at under 70USD per night including breakfast (asia-rooms) and as you conceded, has 30 Bar where you can be certain of finding a girl if you can't be bothered to go out.

All in all, I think it's a pretty good compromise as far as location, facilities, quality and value for money are concerned, but every one needs to make their own mind up I guess.

I finally got to see the revamped 30 Bar. It is nice. Always thought the old layout was too dark and cave-like. It seems brighter now, with plenty of sofas in the outer bar area for 'bird watching'. Also, the restaurant area in the lobby is very nice. A good value for the room rates, despite the location.

Spotted my nemisis from MyBar reported last year, suprisingly now going upmarket in Bats. I've generally never seen any crossover as they seemed to be in different castes between the two bars.

I think it's funny that just about everyone has sampled Ella. She's still heavily into the ecxtasy (sp?) scene however, which turns me off.

Bats is now doing 'happy hour' 2-for-1 Bintangs on Sundays. Seems to last all night. While this is a great deal, in the usual ass-backward Jakarta way, you have to consume the second beer at the same time, else it warms to room temp.

Did a little research,

'Ali Sadikin, who was Jakarta governor from 1966 to 1977, legalized gambling in the capital, which produced an injection of 20 billion rupiah a year for the municipality.

The funds were utilized to build roads, health clinics and schools. Ali built a now-defunct prostitution complex called Kramat Tunggak in North Jakarta in 1970s, which then was closed by Sutiyoso four years ago. The area then was turned into the Jakarta Islamic Center.'

As you reluctantly concede, it is very near Plaza Indonesia, hence eX, McDonalds (Sarinah) and OhLaLa both of the latter being open 24hours. Although these locations appear not to interest you; actually, I think they are well worth going to if you're looking to pick up girls which I presume a number of reader are. I've posted many many photographs of girls I've picked up in these 4 locations which are in easy walking distance of each other and only 5 minutes taxi ride even at the busiest time, from the Meridien. Should new readers have any doubts about what can be found in these places, please look back at my postings.

It's also not far to Plaza Senayan and Blok M albeit its on the "wrong" side of the road for going south. But if you want to avoid a long taxi ride you can just walk over the footbridge to the "south bound" side of the road and get a taxi going that way.

The hotel itself is one of the best value 5 star hotels in JKT at under 70USD per night including breakfast (asia-rooms) and as you conceded, has 30 Bar where you can be certain of finding a girl if you can't be bothered to go out.

All in all, I think it's a pretty good compromise as far as location, facilities, quality and value for money are concerned, but every one needs to make their own mind up I guess.

Sorry about that. I didn't mean for people to think Meridien is a bad hotel. Meridien is definitely one of the better hotels in Jakarta. Everyone has their favorite hotels and if you are comfortable staying there, that's great.

However, I personally would recommend the Ambhara over the Meridien for convenience. It's also a 5 star hotel and is no more expensive than the Meridien. The main convenience at Ambhara is that you can walk to Pasa Raya or Blok M. If you ask me, Pasa Raya is a better mall than either Plaza Indonesia or Sarinah for meeting girls. There's even that new night spot right behind Ambhara that the old manager of BATS has opened. You can also walk to the 6th floor if you want. Ambhara is your one stop mongering spot.

In my opinion, the main reason someone would want to stay at Meridien is if they intended on frequenting 30. There are quite a few hotels in that area that are similar quality and similar price. They all take just as long by taxi to get places.

I would definitely recommend Le Meridien as a place to stay. But I'd also recommend the Sari Pan Pacific, Shangri La, Mulia, Marriott, Ritz, Park Lane, and so on. I may have been exaggerating saying the Meridien was "as bad a location as there is in Jakarta". But it is certainly not in any special location that makes it overly convenient like a hotel Ambhara.

Tigah puluh is a well know night spot, but many girls avoid it because full of "black people", I'm not racist so I don't care about this, but a "normal" indonesian girl can go to BATS but not to 30s

I was performing some meaningless research earlier this evening and came to find out that Northern Jakarta hosts the world's largest brothel. This place was referred to as "Kramat Tunggak". Apparantly a 28 acre, walled complex with nearly 2000 sex workers.

I've been to Jakarta several times, I'm married to a Jakartian (is that a word? , and have never heard of this place. I've heard of the place in Surabaya, but not this on in Jakarta.

So, I said to myself, certainly there is a bevy of information on this place at ISG. Logged in, performed the search (read RTFF) and nothing, nada, zip. How can this be? The WORLD's LARGEST BROTHEL does have a single mention in ISG. Unbelievable. Perhaps I got the wrong spelling?

Now some of the Brothel reopen in Dadang or was it Dadat ( I might get the name wrong) somewhere off Cenkarang near to the sea. ONly 60k for a FJ but beware, no parking area for cars and only people on bike goes there. End of the road where the sea is, there are lots of seafood resturant.

Went to survey once while waiting for a delayed flight and well... U really do not want to be there....

OhLaLa is a fairly large coffee shop not a bar but it's very popular with girls and (young indonesian men) around 11pm onwards prior to going on somewhere else. It's also an internet hotspot and attracts posers (girls I mean) with laptops - obviously ones who are reasonably well off or have rich and/or stupid boyfriends. I wouldn't say it's brilliat for picking girls up but it's certainly worth a look if you are in that area (Sarinah) at the right time. I should add that it's easy walking distance from Jalan Jaksa

Heaven knows why people wish to meet me here - next time I shall insist on relocating all meetings to Jakarta where it is much easier to achieve the desired results in a short space of time.

As for Cinderella and her shoes it was considerably a bargain in comparision to spending the night and she is so reliable - am also amused to read that we have all been benefiting from the generosity of Daijeck and yet he has not partaken of the fruits of his labours.

She allows you to have your fun in the afternoon and then to proceed to the main course at whatever location takes your fancy. This ability is entirely noteworthy and should be applauded. Her college times also mean no chance of being caught out in the mornings. So where else can we find such wonderful service !!

Now back to this water festival and hope to protect the handphone and other parts. As for the New Renovated Top Gun. I personally like the place as it is not crowded like the rest and not too noisy. They have a live band around 11pm and play oldies which is again what I like.

One 9 foot pool table and a disco at the back with also bar top dancing.

As for girls, not too many as compared to the rest.

KL Guy is 100% correct, that's exactly what I meant. Unfortunately, in my haste to write my post, I forgot to add a few key words that would have make this point more clearly.

My apologies for inadvertently causing a rush of posts (over a dozen at my latest count) on this subject - I wasn't meaning to cause any trouble.

Although my main point was that some mongers stay at Le Meridien specifically to be in the same building as the 30 bar, I must agree with Bulai69 that there are many other advantages to Le Meridien, including its location right in the middle of the "Kota to Blok M" mongering corridor. It features a great Lebanese restaurant that offers somewhat-reasonably priced Lebanese red wine by the glass. Plus it is easily accessible to Plaza Indonesia by two roads (nice to have an alternative to having to drive on Jl. Sudirman/Thamrin).

Finally, Le Meridien is on the TransJakarta bus line; in an emergency, that makes it easy to access places such as Kartika and Stadium (in one direction) and Blok M (in the other direction) during big traffic jams.

Just don't do what I once did; I rode the TransJakarta up to Kota to visit Kartika, ended up having a two-hour session with the lovely Cynthia, then walked out to the main road only to find that the TransJakarta bus had just stopped running for the night. Luckily, I had enough rupiah left to get back to my hotel (I purposelly don't walk around with a lot of cash when I visit the Kota spas). I suppose that in a real emergency where I have no money at all, that I could have taken a cab to my hotel, borrowed enough rupiah from the front desk to pay the taxi driver, then gone up to my room and opened my room safe to repay the front desk.

Smoothy, you make some good points about the Ambhara; if someone wants to concentrate their mongering efforts on the Blok M/Pasaraya/6th Floor area, then the Ambhara is by far the best choice for a hotel. Only downside is that it's quite a long ways from Kota if someone wants to go up there one evening.

And yes, there are actually several decent hotels to stay at in Jakarta, and everyone has their favorite location, based on what best fits their mongering choices. Although I still chuckle at the poster last year who wanted a hotel room with a nice view, as (a) there's not much a view anywhere due to the pollution, and (b) most mongers are more interested in the girls than in the view from their hotel window.

Well, just back from a short time in Jakarta, staying at Park Lane. Not the most convenient place, but if the company is paying for it, who am I to argue.

For various reasons I spent most of my time in the hotel, with most of the night at Stix. Pretty ordinary time, with a woeful Colombian band who play WAY TOO LOUD! However, bar tab is on the room, and company is paying for the room... :-)

When I was there last month, spotted an innocent little cutie. Didn't talk much, but had the urge. Up to the room, but once she gets her gear off, was horrified to find small but very saggy tits with nipples the size of dinnerplates. Whoever invented push-up bras should be shot! There are more a go go bars in Metro Manila. Consentration was in Burgeos St., Makati and Mabini St., Manila. The former moved to a complex next to Holiday Inn, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay. I also know all Casas (read: red houses/pick-up joints) in Makati area.

I will agree Manila is fun for party, strip shows, etc. But, for sex, Jakarta is easier and cheaper, next to Bangkok. No cities beat Jakarta for GFE. I was in JKT earlier this week and I went to Glodok Plaza, the Health Spa on Floor 5. The VIP rooms (available at 300k) are quite nice with Jacuzzi. Although services look clean from the outside, girls do provide special services and are apparently encouraged to do so by the owners (probably as their pay from the spa owner is on the low side).

I got number 198, she is very nice, smiling, GFE experience. She offered 200k for HJ, 400k for BJ with condom and 800k for FS. The place is a mini-palace with a number of servants milling about at 2am. We say goodbye, and I immediately get a message that she wants to see me again at the nearest opportunity. Too bad I am flying out soon. But my next visit will be a priority.
Many photos, coverage of her Indo movies and record albums on the internet, as I checked out as soon as I got back to the hotel.

I know this isn't a monger story, but a strange string of events led to this in the most unlikely of places. Finding a real live, quite wealthy model/actress in Bats who wants a relationship is not something I expected to happen this week. :D

Yep, generally speaking of course.. Jakarta might offer a slightly better monger deal than Manila. Girls are more plentiful, nitelife is fantastic and not unimportant, hotels are of better quality and cheaper than their Manila counter parts, or at least offer better value for money in my experience.

But, tastes will differ and interestingly enough, if you compare P4P prices of places where most of us end up - the freelance bars of Ermita (LA Cafe, Amazonia, GPoint, etc.) are in fact cheaper than the bars of Blok M (MyBar, D's Place, TopGun, Oscar, ..).

Prices in Ermita, 2000-1500 LT and 1000 Pesos ST.. that is 350-265k LT -correct me if I'm wrong- and 175k Rupiah's ST using existing currency conversion. If you barfine in EDSA or Burgos Street, of course prices will end up about the same.

As for GFE's, in favour of Manila, all girls speak English and Mall hunting is definitely easier. Personally, I don't care about English as I speak enough bahasa, but also when you look at the amount of stunners in Makati.. mm.. I don't know, I'll have a hard time choosing a favourite destination.

Yep, generally speaking of course.. Jakarta might offer a slightly better monger deal than Manila. Girls are more plentiful, nitelife is fantastic and not unimportant, hotels are of better quality and cheaper than their Manila counter parts, or at least offer better value for money in my experience.

But, tastes will differ and interestingly enough, if you compare P4P prices of places where most of us end up - the freelance bars of Ermita (LA Cafe, Amazonia, GPoint, etc.) are in fact cheaper than the bars of Blok M (MyBar, D's Place, TopGun, Oscar, ..).

Prices in Ermita, 2000-1500 LT and 1000 Pesos ST.. that is 350-265k LT -correct me if I'm wrong- and 175k Rupiah's ST using existing currency conversion. If you barfine in EDSA or Burgos Street, of course prices will end up about the same.

As for GFE's, in favour of Manila, all girls speak English and Mall hunting is definitely easier. Personally, I don't care about English as I speak enough bahasa, but also when you look at the amount of stunners in Makati.. mm.. I don't know, I'll have a hard time choosing a favourite destination.I have a Singaporean friend who mongers in both cities and He speaks Bahasa quite well.He likes both cities.He finds Indonesian girls better in bed but Manila has things like Air Force 1,which Jakarta doesnt have.I guess its like apples and oranges.Different strokes for different folks

Mind you there is also a hotel Menara Peninsula (Peninsula tower), that is located in a very different part of Jakarta. About the hotel, there are two Princen like hotels in this area. Hotel Princen Park is located inside the compex, right after the parking entrance. Hotel Princen is located at Jl. Mangga Besar Raya around 75 meters from Lokasari complex.

Well, I got to Jakarta yesterday afternoon. I had somehow deluded myself that traffic wouldn't be so bad around 3pm, but an hour later I was at Aston Atrium. I've decided to move around a few times during my 3 weeks here.

Luckily I had had a short overnight in Singapore, and so had gotten some rest. Coming from the US can be pretty tiring.

The Kaha booth seemed to have the best price, although they were first trying to book me under the Middle Eastern price per night (500k), I took the 430k price without breakfast. I still hate the ATMs here that only give you 1 Juta per withdrawal. I've booked 4 nights there so far.

I went over to Atrium in the evening (not the best time, I know), and only found some contact with some 30 something, third tier, ladies. No thanks.

Today I headed off to PI, but a demonstration had the way closed off. I just said the hell with it and headed off to Passaraya Grande.

I'll check out some of the local action here, and try to catch up on some posts here on the hour left on my Starbucks card.

On Tuesday I moved from Aston Atrium to a place down the street from Hotel Travel to the Arwana Hotel. Decent hotel, about 100 yards from Lokasari as well. I got a high floor, as the front seems to be noisey. They have inhouse massage at 65k per hour. Moderate quality, and the masseuse complained about the tip (20k).

About 1/3 the DVD's I got at Mangga Dua Mal (I've learned there are many different Mangga Dua malls now, ITC, WTC, Square, etc) were bad. I took them back and got replacements today, all but one seem okay.

The first paragraph refers to very important news.

Monday May 1st is "Labor Day" and a large demonstration is scheduled. It is not an official holiday in Indonesia (although it is in many other countries). The authorities expect that upwards of 100,000 demonstrators may show up for the demonstration. The demonstrators will be assembling around Plaza Senayen early in the morning, then they'll march up Jalan Surdirman/Jalan Thamrin up to the Hotel Indonesia circle (in front of Plaza Indonesia, Hotel Nikko and the Mandarin Oriental) for a 9 a.m. rally, then further north up Jalan Thamrin to the Presidential Palace by 1 p.m.

What does all this have to do with mongering? A few reasons:

1) any time there is a crowd of demonstrators that big, there is always the possibility that things can get out of hand. The last big rally (back on April 5th) was supposed to be peaceful, but towards the end of the day a smaller group of protestors trashed a couple of buses and some other property. My advice is to be prudent and stay away from large crowds.

2) this especially goes for foreigners (the majority of posters here on ISG), as one of the items being protested is a proposed revision in the labor law that will allow foreign investors to bring in more foreign workers. Since someone like me is considerably taller, wider and "whiter" than the average Indonesian, I would stick out in any crowd and could potentially be a target.

3) more practically, the Jalan Surdirman/Jalan Thamrin road corridor (the main north-south corridor in Jakarta) may be closed for most of the day, which means that the Transjakarta bus may also not be running. This means that the traffic will be forced to take other north-south roads, causing massive traffic jams. It may be very difficult to get around Jakarta quickly on Monday, and travel in and out of central Jakarta may be impossible. Keep this in mind as you plan your mongering and other social activities for Monday. Tomorrow may be a good day to hang around the Blok M area all day, and I wouldn't even think of travelling to Kota to go to the Stadium, Kartika Spa, Berlian. etc. tomorrow.

I must really thanked all the "sex deities" in the world that is watching over me. I did not accomplished my original intention of buying gifts for HM but I got to enjoy something even better :) The two that I managed to "conquer" was very into each other (they were not shy / "malu" to put on a show for me) ;p. That's a good report about the girls from Citraland Mall. It is a very good mall for hunting because not many people hunt there compared with PI and PS. There are universities near there, Trisakti is the main one. You were particularly lucky - but on the ball and astute enough to exploit the situation - to find two girls together like that. Sometimes when you find two you get less than you would get with either one of them ("malu").

I don't often go there myself because it is a long way from where I usually "operate", you have inspired me to go back!

Speaking of DVD's, I picked up some XXX rated near Glodok yesterday, and had a chance to try them out today. 0 for 10. I guess I got scammed, as all are not what they're supposed to be. Only two actually had the right label on the disk. 10/10 (local XXX and American style) were junk. I do, however, get to watch Indo Spongebob Squarepants, some music performances, a "Sing Along with Jesus" and a few other entertaining ones.

They were only 5k each, but it still sucks.

As for normal CD's about 1/3 were bad, but the place replaced them all for free, and no problems on the replacements.

I've found that the DVD's I get in Jakarta were of a better quality than the ones I've gotten in Thailand. And at 20-30% of the price, a better deal.

Well as anyone who has met me will know, I love to travel to see new places, see interesting women and eat. There is no restaurant section in Indonesia, so I'll just post some here.

I went out to eat with JAD on Monday, and he took me to a nice little Chinese restaurant across from the 'Mewar in Lokasari. Big shrimp, spicy sauce for 50k. No pics of that one.

In the evening we went to Abuba, which is a very busy steak place. They have local, NZ and US meat selections. I got a tenderloin that was about 43k plus 10% tax. They serve with veggies as well. They'll put bbq sauce on it if you don't request otherwise.

From their menu, they have a couple of different locations. We had to wait a few minutes to get a table. A simple type restaurant, with plastic chairs, and fans.

Quality was good, and it's the best steak I've had in Jakarta. I got the NZ meat, I'd guess the portion is about 6-7 ounces.

I've purchased several hundred DVD's here in Bali, which I'm told come from Jakarta. My experience is 'not' to buy the new ones. Nine times out of ten they have not been perfected yet, or at least as Indonesian's look at perfection. I also, always ask if they are good or not. Still I alsoend up with about 10% or more bad copies, but always ask if I can return them and within what time frame, as it may take several months for me to view the quantity that I purchase.

I went to Ancol, SeaWorld yesterday, and had an enjoyable time. 10k to get your taxi in, 25k for entry (or 45K with 4d movie ticket).

Fairly small, overall. Lots of construction going on. Okay Sea Lion and Dolphin shows. Pay 5k and get a photo with the animals. They have a mixed animal show (bear, hippo, etc), but I only glimpsed a bit of it.

I went to their 4D show, which was nice since if was nice and cool inside, and the computerized movie was entertaining. About 12 minutes, it has both the action chairs, and a "mist" system for spraying you at dramatic parts of the movie. Get the ticket for 20K out front with entry, or pay 25K at the box office.

Afterwards, I went to Mangga Dua Square to try and see a movie. Only 4 theatres, with maybe one or two interesting movies. I went to buy a ticket for 5pm, but they said they had only sold 1 ticket, and needed to sell 4 to run the movie.

So, instead, I went next door, and at Mojo's, which is a juice/coffee bar place, with some food. Don't waste your time and money on the calzones. The manager did recommend another mall that had more movie selection. Mal Kelapa Gading is a bit far out. The manager's estimate of time to get there from Mangga Besar was off by a factor of 4.

I needed to replenish my rupiah stash, and couldn't find a Citibank at Kelapa Gading today. I went to a BCA ATM, and after trying to get 1.5 Juta, it spit my card out without doing anything. I then put it in again, to try a lower amount. It swallowed my card, and didn't even burp. Greaaaat. I barely have enough rupiah to get back to my hotel.

After fuming for a minute, I just wait until the next person goes to use the machine, luckily, the machine doesn't like the taste of my card, and spits it out, so I do get it. Stupidly brave, I put it back in again, and get the paltry .5 Juta it allows.

I do seem to find all the good ones, don't I?

Jaimito, I've had similar experiences with ATM machines from BCA, so I simply don't use them any more. I've had much better luck with ATMs from Bank Danamon (you can usually get 1,500,000 at a time), also Bank Mandiri (limit of 1,250,000) and BII (limit of 1 million).

The Bank Danamon headquarters in Kuningan (directly across from Mall Ambassador) has one ATM that dispenses 2 million at a time, but in 100,000 rupiah notes, which most taxis won't have change for.

Well, after scoring my amazing 500k from the ATM, and after seeing Tom Cruise blow up lots of stuff, I was trying to find the Citibank ATM at the mall. (No luck). Lippo gave me 1 Juta, that was okay. I passed a bookstore, and decided to try one more time to find the book that Bulai recommended.

They said they didn't have it. However, in glacing at a shelf, I saw, "How to make out in Japanese", so I knew I was in the right area. After a little digging, I found. it. 65k and it was all mine.

Decent book, and quite helpful. 9 books in the series, with Chinese, Filipino, Thai and others that might be useful.

I took it with me when I went to the Atrium Mall on Friday. I let the students at the Johnny Adrean salon on the 5th floor practice on me (6.5k for Gunting), and practiced some of it on them. (Front of the book, not the back where all the *good* stuff is.)

In walking through the mall, I noticed a number of "interested" looks I got from some of the ladies. This was about 2-3pm. I didn't have time to inquire further, but it was interesting, non the less.

I decided to catch another movie, and noticed a number of interestings ladies sitting in front of the video games in the entry. After the movie, I went back, and sat down for a bit. A couple were quite interesting, so I invited them for a drink.

The drink, of course, turned into dinner for these two. They got spaghetti at the Kafe Expresso, which both of them hated.

With a very short notice change to my schedule, I had a brief but productive visit to Jakarta at the top part of this week. Following the very useful advice of many of the Jakarta thread veterans, I was keen to check out the hunting grounds of the Atrium Plaza shopping mall. There is nothing better I like than the challenge of stalking prey in open grounds!

I arrived in Jakarta Sunday late afternoon and made my way to Atrium by taxi... as soon as I walked in the first floor, there were ladies checking me out an smiling. It got me buzzing, but I'm sorry to say that they were not very attractive. I decided to stroll around and see what is what. My general impression is that Atrium is a nice little nest of freelancer talent of all varieties, but one clearly has to be discreet - especially if you are a stick-out foreigner. The girls seem to operate in pairs or groups of three, although there were some singles circulating. They will hang out at the railing, especially at the second and third floor circular near the KFC. As the circular looks down on the kiddie rides below, it seems easy for the girls to hang out there without looking too inconspicuous. You will see all types - from over 30 mothers to obvious jail bait teens.

By the time I grabbed some dinner at the Popeye's (yummy chicken strips), it was already past 7pm and the crowd was thinning out. On my way out I spotted a girl who gave me a cute smile at the elevator... I approached. Before I could say much, she said "sit down, security" in broken English. She seemed worth the immediate risk, so I replied "let's go hotel." She nodded and followed me down to the taxis. I noted that discretion is valued in this environment - don't try to look like you are obviously with your girl, at least until you are climbing into a taxi.

The rear area has been converted into a disco area, where most of the pickup girls seem to gravitate.

After some time on the pool table I made my way back to the disco. There weren't many girls there, but after 15min of sitting at my stool Miss R walked in with some friends... Good report about Atrium - you can't fail to get a girl in there in my experience but don't expect top quality. However you can find reasonable girls (often in pairs as I think JC said) and always good value - 200 to 300 max. As for hotels - I think the optimum is Oasis Amir (Jl. Senen Raya Kav. 135-137, Telepon: 021-7994248) just 5 minutes walk down the road. Turn right as you come out of the main entrance; it's on the right.

Well, Rika was supposed to have a compatriot come over this afternoon, but no such luck. I have very bad luck with prearranged visits, it seems. Maybe they show up and the guy isn't there? I tried to call, but just got a song on her phone.

So, I went to Atrium, and got a drink in the food court, and sat at a table by the railing. A number of options, but nothing that really got my attention. I decided to use the snot slow internet up on the 5th floor. They also have a travel agency attached, and have both the Aston Atrium (395k with breakfast), and the one Bulai mentioned (Oasis?) for 310-320k or so. Nursa Wartel/Travel Agency.

I've gotten a booth by the railing, so I can watch the 5th and 4th floors. I've seen a number of two and threesomes that have a high probability of being on the prowl. I'd guess I've seen 20 ladies that I'd put at 80% or more probability. I haven't checked out the KFC area or above the amusement rides.

When I took the ladies out the other day, I did the walk 3 paces behind perp walk, perhaps that's why they went out the back entrance as well.

I don't know that the quality of the ladies is worth the trouble, but it is rather like mining for diamonds. Maybe you get a flawless gem that is just new on the market, or the muddy flawed one that only looks good from far away and fades when you get close.

Indeed it would be almost impossible to get a true gem in Atrium but you can get good ones if you really take the trouble & time to look for them.

Ask the local forumers as they would know the timing & type of girls that go to Atrium.

Well, I've made my final move (hopefully) for my last 4 days here in Jakarta. Menteng had mentioned this hotel just before he left, so when I saw it listed on the Nursa Travel on the 5th floor of the Atrium Mall, I decided I'd try it out for a couple of days.

They had a deluxe room for 280k a night. No breakfast included.

Unless you have a knowledgeable taxi driver, they won't easily find it. Apparently, it's only been open a month or so, but is in a small street (calling it an alley would probably be appropriate), just on the other side of the Melawai Hotel, with the Block M Plaza mall on the other side.

They have 6 hour "packages" for about 175K plus tax/service. Includes some beverages and snacks.

It's nice to see a hotel in Jakarta that is in excellent shape, and not after 5 or 10 years of no upkeep. The deluxe rooms (their lowest cost room), is an interior room, with no windows. However, it's nicely appointed, large, firm bed, marble in bathroom, carpet in main room.

There was a minibar, but no fridge, and no inroom safe. I saw mention of both in the guest manual, and asked about them. It was funny listening to the employee. "Blah, blah, blah, blah BULE, blah, blah, COMPLAIN, blah, blah". They did get the fridge up in 20 minutes, with the safe (not bolted down) up. After getting ripped off for a decent amount of money in Peru hotel room (employee theft) last year, if a in room safe is available, I'd certainly prefer to have it.

I leave Friday afternoon, so hopefully I'll be able to see some of you deviants before I leave. :)

I looked around the Blok M Plaza Mall a bit this afternoon, but nothing jumped out, mongering wise.
