OK, here's an FR to start the normal things in this Forum going.

WOW 100,000 rupiah thats about US$10.00 @ today rate of exchange.

The cheapest I have ever paid say about 6 months ago was 130,000 rupiah whole night at tg.pinang bintan island, no comission. I stayed in a hotel walking distant from the fish bowl fuck shop. I am sure we talk about the same place. It is located on the main road passing west from Sanur (and close the the Dyan A hotel). All people (and taxi drivers) in Sanur and Kuta know the place. I have had many "good times" there, but it has been closed for 2-3 years. Nothing has happened to the buildings, so you might be right if they have re-opened after I left Bali on August 10. Very healthy competition to Dyan if so.

There are several "amusement places" in Sanur where you can chose lady yourself, but not everywhere. Next time you go there, why not check where the "local young boys" use to go? You cannot believe it! I have seen 6-7 places. There are plenty of young girls but no dancing. Maybe you have missed this posting of 23/10/05.I was at Barroka about a month or so ago, I think it was in the middle of Ramadan and their were only about 15 girls there. Then I was also there about 2-3 weeks ago and their gates were closed, they let me in and said that no girls were there, but they'd send out for a few for me to view. I passed and went to Dayan Ayu. Not much, but you can try the tiny disco cafe at the end of the beach in padangbai. Only walked by myself, but there were a couple girls in there. Standard practice in a balinese cafe is to go in, pay a lot of attention (and probably buy a lot of drinks) for one girl in particular, then go back within a few days and repeat the process at least once, maybe 3-4 times. If you get along, she may (or may not) sleep with you. You may (or may not) have to pay her, but as a tourist you probably will.

Yes, I know its slow and iffy, but thats how it works. Better maybe if you bring a FL girl from kuta - you can meet tons of them at the sante fe cafe on Jalan Dhyanapura. If you head away from Kuta on Jalan Legian starting where it turns 2-way, Jalan Dyanapura will be on your left a few kilometers north - heading that way it's the next turn off after jl Double Six.

For the new to Bali types, I would suggest that you go to Lim Ling Bar in Sanur after 9:00 pm and ask for Nyomen. He drives a Beemo and he will give you the tour of all the hot spots around Sanur and on the bypass. He will stop at each lil hideaway and tell you all about the local costs and expectations. He charges rp 20,000 for this memorial tour.

Then you can either stay at one and he can pick you up later, or you can get location details and return on your own. There is many working women in Sanur. All ages and price range. You can even get a lady at the Lim Ling bar at a cost of rp 100,000 to 300,000. Time spent together is a matter of attitude. Oh yah this usually includes a 1 hour massage. The older ladies try harder and give better service, the young cute ones are usually duds. Depends on how many drinks they have.

I was in Padangbay in February and August this year. Little too small for me and quiet nighttime. They have excellent snorkelling but my dive mate got terribly burnt by a jellyfish in February - had to go to hospital - so swim carefully at that time of the season!

Sanur is my favourite spot on Bali. Quiet, good eating, plenty of girls and close to Nusa Penida (scuba diving) Kuta and Ubud.

Standard practice in a balinese cafe is to go in, pay a lot of attention (and probably buy a lot of drinks) for one girl in particular, then go back within a few days and repeat the process at least once, maybe 3-4 times. If you get along, she may (or may not) sleep with you. You may (or may not) have to pay her, but as a tourist you probably will.

Yes, I know its slow and iffy, but thats how it works. Better maybe if you bring a FL girl from kuta - you can meet tons of them at the sante fe cafe on Jalan Dhyanapura. Though if you're busy (say, diving) most of the day, and there for more than a few days, she may get bored and want to go home - these sorts of freelance employment situations are very much "at will" to use some American legal talk.

I will add a more detailed report later, but for those looking for 11B (and maybe 3B which I haven't been to yet), people forgot to mention that it is on the opposite side of Danao Poso from the Bali Cricket Club. It is just a little removed - just a few yards, and you can easily see it if you stand in front of the club. You have to walk a ways into this lane until you see the sign for 11A. Turn into this driveway - it is a long one, and the house you end up at is 11B.
I will do this exercise again hopefully, and I will write down street names.
11B had a decent selection of girls. I picked one - a big one - and we went to another house, because I had stopped to ask for directions and I had become that other house's 'property'. She was quite good - enjoyed it herself also. Cost was 150000.
However, taxi fares in Bali have shot up. It used to be about a 25000 rupiah ride to Sanur from Kuta. Now it is running around 45000.
This girl also visited me at my hotel, and this was an even more enjoyable experience. It cost more - 300000 - but considering that it would have cost me 250000 anyway, it was worth it.
I will post more exact location details if I go there again. Also any other information that may be useful to members.

I was in Padangbay in February and August this year. Little too small for me and quiet nighttime. They have excellent snorkelling but my dive mate got terribly burnt by a jellyfish in February - had to go to hospital - so swim carefully at that time of the season!

Sanur is my favourite spot on Bali. Quiet, good eating, plenty of girls and close to Nusa Penida (scuba diving) Kuta and Ubud.For me, Bali is kind of either/or for scuba and snorkelling - the places with excellent diving are quiet, the places with lots of girls have mediocre diving. For a bit of both i reccomend pantai bira in south sulaweisi. The scuba/snorkelling isn't *quite* the best in the world, but it's damn good by indonesian standards, which is saying a lot. Also, it has an extremely high karoke bar/tourist ratio during the week (it's crowded with locals on the weekend but empty during the week, which means loads of bored, horny, and often quite pretty girls) Note - these are karoke girls, not prostitues, so you might not score your first night, but if you're there for a week or so you'd be pretty sure to find some fun. Plus the karoke bars are actually fairly cheap for a few beers.

also, pantai bira is just a few hours drive from makassar, a huge city. There are loads of hookers there, so if you want a sure thing you can find a girl there at one of the big discos and bring her to pantai bira - it's a popular local weekend getaway so she'll be happy to go. Even if some scuba diving is better on Sulawesi, Bali has everything and is easy to come to by air. Hi all its been a while and now I actually am living in Bali, I suppose I should be giving up to date reports as to what is happening around town.

Went out last night on the 29th Dec. Some friends were meeting at Hard Rock Centre stage and the place was full of groupies for the band. A couple of Jawa girls waiting for unsuspecting westeners but apart from that not really anyone interested unless I had a bass guitar.

Be warned they will try and charge you 500,000rp but just be firm and you will get the price you want. The thing I don't like is in places in Sanur the girl only makes 50,000rp for the full service and the boss gets the rest. Not good for the girls. With everything as quiet as it is there are a whole new crop appearing at the moment who are virtually newbies to the game so you should be able to get a good price. Got to laugh I had one girl say to me the other night that her regular price is 500,000rp but because I am a boss she would only charge me 800,000rp - you gotta love them.

Anyways have fun out there and if you come to Bali and need a good driver who will take you to some of the good places around, the PM me and I will give you a list of good reliable drivers, who won't try and rip you off.

At the risk of getting off topic, yes, the diving in lembongan *is* excellent. However, though I'm padi certified i prefer snorkelling, and it's a bit expensive getting out to lembongan for a day of snorkelling, compared to Bira, where you can hire a fairly large boat all day for about $10. Also someone on here mentioned having dived bali several times and was looking for an alternative, so i mentioned bira.

That said, for your average visitor/diver/mongerer, i would probably agree with hanqe - lembongan is very good diving, you'd have to be very very experienced (and picky) to insist on trying to find something better. And yes, sanur has lots and lots of enthusiastic (and reasonably priced) young women for other kinds of sport. I guess for me, since i live in bali, i i like to get out of town every once in a while and see some new reefs/sleep with some new women (no i haven't quite slept with every girl in sanur, yet, but i'm getting there ;)

Anyway Pantai Bira isn't even like some ultimate diving destination - there are better places in Papau, off the coast of kalimantan, the malaku's, pulau bunaken, etc. It's just a nice little sweet spot thats got great diving, lots of girls (unlike some of the ultra-diving spots i just mentioned) and is a nice change from bali.

Ubud is beautiful and worth a visit, but night life is zero. My guide book mentioned a bar called "Naughty Nuri's" which sounded quite promising, but it had already closed when I arrived there at 10.10 pm.

So I asked one of these 'Transport sir?' guys if there wasn't any place where girls go, and he offered to take me to a bar where locals go. W.R Pondok is located on Jl Pengosekan Kaja, a dirt road up a hill. There was a dancing floor and around it some huts where you could have your beer and some company. They said that totally 16 girls were working there as waitresses, but as this was in the middle of the week only six were in service. Our company called herself Indi from Singaraya, but she was afraid of going with a bule: "He might be very big", the second girl said she would like to, but she had her period. The third girl was a real cutie and asked 800.000 but said OK to 500.000. Problem was she (and I!) had to wait till her shift finished at 2 am. The heading is a misnomer. I had mentioned in my earlier posting that I would give greater details about the location of 11B and 3B. Unfortunately I never made it back there. However, the directions I have written earlier, plus the information other members have posted, should be enough.
The reason I never made it back is that for a few days the lady I had met in 11B paid visits to my hotel in Kuta. I was paying her 300000 rp - only 50000 more than it would have cost me to see her in a dingy steamy room in Sanur, so it was worth it. She was worth it too, and more. I tried to get her over for longer periods, but it didnt work, partly because she was having family problems.
Then on New Year's eve I was collared by a couple of girls on Kuta beach. I didnt take up their offer right away - they offered to have a 'party' with me. With a third girl who was also around. But I did get their number and called them in turn the next couple of days. Both were good, though one, who was 20, was really nice. I gave them 250000, plus 20000 for the security guy.
One thing I noticed this visit is that the girls seems to have learned to hurry a person along by saying they have come. After just a couple of minutes they will urge you to come, and then say they have come and you should come too. I would ignore this and continue with normal business. It is disconcerting however, and something that pissed me off somewhat.
Prof Designer, who had offered numbers in an earlier posting, came through after I PMed him. He was kind enough to SMS me the numbers of two girls with suggested rates. On my last full day there I was going on a little sightseeing thing, so I called one of the girls and she agreed to come along at short notice.
She was good with words, so it was nice having her along, especially since some of the stuff we saw was new for her too.
We tore into it after we got back, and then she left because she had some things to attend to. I gave her 300000 plus 20000 for a taxi.
When I was having dinner she called and wanted to return, so I said okay. We had a few drinks and generally had a nice time in the room just talking and hanging around. It is so interesting learning about people's lives - up to a point of course! She stayed the night and left next morning. I gave her some more rupiahs, but not as much as before.
Bali tourism was slow, compared to what it was in September. So you can beat prices down. However, after a while it becomes ridiculous trying to squeeze out the last drop, so I would just try to stick to what is fair. I know the definition of 'fair' will vary, and I will just leave it at that.
My hotel, for instance, had hit me with a $10 a day high season surcharge. But when I got to Bali I found that most hotels had dropped the high season surcharge because of the thin tourist crowd. So I made my hotel drop the surcharge too. I could have forced them to lower their rates even more, but left it at that.

Unlike Jakarta and most other places in Indonesia you can't be certain of getting ANY extra's in 4 or 5 star hotels. The only place I scored was in Sheraton Nusa Dua and I think that was a one-off. I've tried Novotel, Hilton, Hyatt in Nusa Dua and got nothing.

In general, if you are looking for "action", forget Bali and go to Jakarta

Sorry 'bout late reply, Kuta is a bit lame in the 4-5* market, and to be honest, if they did have their own beach you'd be mobbed by touts! However, there are some good hotels next to the beach, but you'll still be hassled to buy ridiculous things(blow pipes, bows 'n' arrows, and your missus will be hassled to have massage), but they'll just hang around at the wall of your hotel, they wont come in. If you want luxury close to Kuta, I'd point you to Jimbaran. Tapi(but) watch the beach and waves there!

Danau Poso street, close to Danau Tamblingan street, has a lot of actions. Specifically, there are houses where you can take away the girls, but there are some where you can do it in-housely. Try Danau Poso #29. Also, had a change to go to Dian Ayu. Plenty of selections there, while Barokah, close to it was pretty much dead with lots of chubby old ladies offering massage.

Philly, I was in Kuta last May and found the 'Barong' GF. Its a hotel I'd recommend without any hesitation. Around 200,000 Rp per night from what I remember. Very clean with working a/c and two excellent swimming pools. Within walking distance of all the action.

In my opinion those are hotels that will suit Philly and the missus: near to the beach and near to the entertainment joints. Also for take-outs when Philly can get the chance.

The 'new' Mercure Kuta is IMO one of the best 4 stars option in Kuta. Nice architecture, bright rooms with contemporary Balinese style, good location, ect.

The pool at the hard rock is incredible, but i cant say if they're girl-friendly or not. i'd be sort of surprised if they werent.

Kartika plaza in tuban (next to kuta, down the road past kuta square) is huge, 5 star, hotel complex. And as they have a big ol karoke joint in musro (the night club connected to the hotel) i'm guessing they're girlfriendly. i'm also guessing they're on the beach - they should be, but i've never really walked through tthe grounds so i dont know for sure.

I've never stayed in any 5 star hotels in kuta, so i cant really give much first-hand knowledge though.

The Four Seasons hotel is one of the best and most expensive hotels in the world. Do not expect prostitution there! Take a cab to Sanur where you will find the most beautiful and nicest girls in the world! See earlier reports on this page. Have fun!

Action could be troublesome in the higherclass hotels.

But HRH is easy to enter at night, once you tip the satpam. No problems.

At HRH the girls are a little tuff to get, but you can meet them in the other bars and there they are all pretty straight forward.

MUSRO has some awesome gals. Alot guys pick them up there and then move on to the bar at HRH. There are some REAL stunners there.

i picked up a girl there once, but she was NOT a stunner. there were tons of hot girls there, but i had trouble getting the better looking of them to go back with me - it turned out it was one of those indonesian mongering kind of places where a)you pick a girl from the karoke area b)you pay musro a fairly large sum of money for her to hang out at the club with you for 3+ hours, demanding drinks, making you dance to insanely fast techno, etc c) you try to talk her into coming home with you, which may or may not work - often you must return several times before she'll go home with you.

however, this was several years ago, i've heard the clubs changed a lot since then (though what i'd heard is that its gone downhill!) is this system no longer in place, or perhaps avoidable now? juggernutt have you been there recently? maybe i'll have to check it out soon.

I just love Bali and I think that I know the p4p action pretty well.

Not sure if you all noticed it...but it seems certain places are geared toward certain types of clientele.caucasian/asian/locals.

I guess it's nothing new..thailand also has these distinctions. But what makes BAli unique IMO is the close proximity of these places to each other.

Frankly if you dont know the system you won't even notice it lol.

DJ: musro is typical place that caters to the asian market.So it works according to the karaoke style...or niteclubstyle. It's pretty uncomfortable because it's so different...but the end result is always the same. ;-)

Frankly the gal keeps you company etc. So long as u stay in teh club...gal is relatively cheap .

But if she is a nice gal..you can also take her out. I agree that teh prices here can be scary high..but that's normal IMO in such establishments.

Still I have to say that the girls here are the best looking ones. I think they are manado. They look almost like a mixed blood if you know what i mean. Creamy lite skin...BEAUTIFULL.

PSit has been a few years since i have been there. And IMO it's pretty steep pricewise...but I must say they are way better looking than in the other places.

Got into Bali late night and after checking into the White Rose Hotel along Jln Legian, Kuta, took a walk along the street. Lots more touts then I remembered on my last trip here 6-7 years ago.

Was being approached by so many touts (male and female) asking if I wanted a massage or girls for "sexy" massage. Today decided to talk to one and see what the action was about.

Negotiated from Rp250K down to Rp150K for 1 hour. Was assured by the female "pimp" all services included and she would bring me to the "salon" on a bike at no cost. The current price at Dyana Ayu hotel is 250,000rp although they will try and hit you with 400,000 + just hand the money over and if they say anything say thats what you paid last friday. Confuses the hell out of them and they let you go through. I have found they have a lot of the older girls there at the moment but if you are lucky there is a real couple of stunning younger ones that are worth hunting through the group. Beware there is one girl there very tiny and used to be attractive, last time I saw her in the groupings looked so spaced out of it and did not look well... Her name is Tina and she will tell you that it will cost you much extra after you are in the room. Honestly not worth the trouble.I used to frequent Dyana Ayu a year or so ago and used to pay only 100,000 and tip the girls 50,000. I had to pay for the room too...than seperate for the lady. I know it was below 350K, but definitely more than 150K.
150K that's CHEAP man.
In Kuta it's ST 500K.

PS in bali there's a HUGE difference in quality depending on the season. High or Low.During low there are only locals. So the market is pretty small and not so high quality.
During August Bali fairly steams..all the hotties come from other cities of indonesia for some fun and sun. I did some beauties here...one chinese indo(gorgeous creamy white skin with best tits in Indo)..said she was from Surabaya. She was a pro there and told me that many many pros comes here during the holidays.You'll notice the difference in a while. The local girls are extremely comfortable with westerners, speak excellent english and act all popular and such.While the non-locals are shyer and everything is a bit unfamiliar.

IMO there are 3 hotspots in Kuta...kuta center. Around paddies etc. , around HRC and jalan dyana pura at seminyak(spybar). In all these places you can pick up chicks..besides HRC, most places caters towards westerners.
If you still can't find anything....go to club 66.Starts to get busy after 2 am. The thermae of Bali. Weird place with the public to match...great fun.
Sanur has plenty of hotspots too. But never tried the barscene there. The RLD if you can call it that are all near sanur. Alot of brothels here.
Nusa Dua is just a resort place. No nightlife unless inside the resorts.
Legian lies between Seminyak and Kuta....not as famous for nightlife. Plenty of nice hotels though with beachfront location.

Last trip in Bali, the security guys at my 5* hotel were providing with whatever you want ...
only in many places the girl is requested to leave her Id at the desk, but this is also security for you as she cannot cheat and leave so easy...
Only advice check about age. This is the only possible risky point.
They are very open minded... but not on this.
(an I feel they are right, there is enough choice with legal...)

I agree with EFrog and Fast Eddie, in the present economy you can get anyone back to your room no problems at all, the most you will have to do is maybe slipp security 10,000 to 20,000 and then they tend to watch over you a little more. I can recommend a couple of hotels that are both clean and good value and run by an australian so you know that the extra details are looked after. I actually live in Ida and the staff have no problems at all.

Try looking at www.idahotelbali.com or www.dewisrihotel.com or www.baronghotel.com

these hotels are literally within walking distance of the party central in Kuta/Legian.

My other recommendation if you are under 35 is the Contiki Resort in Seminyak. The whole place is just made for fun.

After reading through the bali posts it seems it is fair to say that Kuta is better for the night time scene and finding FL's that can be had for L/T, whereas Sanur has plenty of brothels. Personally for whatever reason I really prefer spending L/T with the girls, and I may find myself in Sanur. So my question is assuming that I want to spend some time with girls L/T in Sanur, will this be easy? Can you discuss with some girls in the brothels about this. Try either Bumi Ayu Bungalows or Puri Kelapa Garden Hotel. The price is max rp 200, 000 includes AB and they are both very clean. Bumi is in the middle of Sanur and Puri is on the northern end.

Lots of wanita and the price is very low. Ie 150, 000 to 300, 000 rp all nite. So many places and bars with girls you will not believe it. And when they are ready to leave in the morn. Give them rp 2000 for the Bemu, you do not have to escort them home. Oh yah. With that price comes a full body massage, and all the extras. I stay in Sanur for 40 days at a time, 3 times a year. Its like a second home.

So.. from what the experienced people have posted, either Kuta or Sanur are equally good for spendng a few days. How far is it between the two places? If I stayed in Kuta, can I take a taxi to Sanur early afternoon, check out a few casas, and be back in Kuta later in the evening? Conversely, if I stayed in Sanur, can I take a taxi from Sanur to check out the clubs, etc. in Kuta and get back at night safely? I will be in Bali in June and would like to explore both places. But not knowing the places very well, I can't decide if I should stay in Kuta or Sanur. Someone posted a detailed report a while ago and suggested Kuta has a lot of rowdy tourists. But I will be there during the low season and it may not be a big issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Actually, I am in Bali for 3 days and then off to Flores/Komodo islands (if any one has knowledge about boat tours to these islands, I'd appreciate any info. I googled and found a few outfits. Alistair, to the best of my knowledge, there is no clear demarcation between Kuta and legian, they just meld into each other. It is the same beach, Legian is further north.
The one diference is the traffic. Most of Kuta main roads are one way, and are impassable by car. There is traffic in Legian, but it is a 2 way street, and flows smoother.
My advice, stay in Legian.

I stayed at Dewi Sri about a year ago, and it was GF then. Its very close to Mbargo and Paddies. I will probably go back there shortly if I can get a room.

How does Mbargo compare to Sante Fe and Club 66? Some nice looking girls in Mbargo but they seem not to interested in punters. And some weird interactions between the girls and guys going on. But did get a really good girl there eventually.

I tend to find that Santa Fe has a lot of the more run down girls, don't get me wrong occasionally you may find a real stunner but now most of the good workers tend to not come out until 1am to 2am if you are in Mbargo the first bar nearest the door is guaranteed to get a woman there, if not you dont have a pulse. As to Dewi Sri, you will get a room no problems, they are part of the same group I work with and they are running at about 40% occupancy at the moment. I would suggest that you try and get one of the deluxe rooms though for the extra few bucks its a lot bigger and the beds I find are bigger and better also you get a bigger TV if you can understand the local programming. ( I still can't but at times its worth a laugh) Contact me when you hit town I am sure I can hook you up with a good girl.

in the future, use the search function. I typed in " sanur hotels", and there were 15 posts. You will find not many people are going to answer this type of question, as it has been asked and answered. General rule of thumb, is read back 20 pages in a thread relevent to what you are looking for. As you read, you will most probably find the info you need, and tons more, so it is a win / win for you.

Well I have been staying in Bali for a while now. Nice place to party. 66 is always a good bet after 2:30am. Just walk in, go to the bar in the back, on the short side of bar order a beer and look around. This is were the FL seem to hang out. Be nice, buy a few drinks, and you are sure to have a happy ending. The going rate: I only do LT so thats why I know it's 350k to 650k.

I know this is a wide range. Do not forget these are FL. The price can go down the

It easy to get in any pharmacy, price is 500,000 for pack of four, be carefull as they try to sell you a product called XGRA its no good as you have to take a tablet everday for six mths before it kicks in. Insist on Phizer.

Good luck.These original tablets could be obtained easily from the many chinese medicine shops in Jakarta's Glodok "Chinatown area" located inside the shopping comples off the stretch along Gajah Mada. Went to Kuta Bugar last night for the first time. Paid 82,000 for the hour. Chose #111 from the lineup. Reminds me of a second tier quality version of the lineup seen in Rush Hour 2. Anyway, got upstairs with the girl and lied down for the massage. She started to massage that area and asked if I wanted her to service it. She of course starts out with an absurd quote of 400k. WTF? I got it down to 120K and even then I believe it was too much. She seems like a ***** from an LA amp. Maybe business is going well for her despite economic conditions because she was a ***** with an attitude. Looks good, but bad attitude. Overall, would not return. For that much damage, I would rather try a brothel in Sanur that the previous brothers have reported on. Will post another report after I try one. Any recommendations is appreciated.

If you stay longer than a few days you might want to advertise in a Bali newspaper for a 'live-in housekeeper/masseuse' ahead of time. They will stay with you for about US$80-100/month (or $30/week) and hope you will marry them. Just the 'job interviews' will be lots of fun. Beware of pregnancy/virginity scams.

On my last stay I had 2 such 'maids' taking turns, since they like to go back to their home villages for 'festivals' a lot. One was Hindu, the other Muslim, so there were no conflicts. And since they were 'employees', not 'girlfriends' they showed no jealousy.

They did not steal anything, but I checked their bags whenever they left.

I had my mobile phone stolen by a motorbike taxi driver though.

Two good GF-friendly places to stay in Sanur: Alit's Beach Bugalows (formerly a ***** property, now **1/2 with 2 nice pools, and Ananda hotel (was always a **, but clean and cheap). Both are right on the beach where the Dutch invaded and massacred 10,000s of Balinese TWICE.

Avoid Nusa Dua, it's a tourist ghetto where Balinese are not allowed to enter unless they work there. Kuta is maybe the worst place to be. Beautiful beach, but full of bule drunks and dope heads. The locals avoid it.

I heard a lot about hookers at the Benoa Harbor, but never saw one personally. They're supposed to hang out in and around the "Yellow Anchor Inn" trying to hustle sailors and yachties. The yacht marina there had singns all over: "No prostitutes allowed on premises!"

Be aware about Indonesian prostitution laws: it's illegal for her and YOU!

Hi Rabo, at the moment anything in Bali is being discounted just to get you in before the busy season starts in July. In regards to finding a girl, that you can trust. I have been here for 8 months now and never had any trouble finding a girl who would like to stay more than a night. I have only been stolen from once in the whole time and that was from a friend the girl brought with her. (Never again) I would say its really the pick of the draw at the moment. I was out in Kuta last night and the pickings were not that good. A couple of stunners and the rest in 4-5 market and all asking $100 US (They have to be kidding) Kuta has some good hotels that are screaming for business. I can recommend the Ida Hotel behind Kuta Square or Dewi Sri just minutes from the nightclub scene. Another great hotel would be the Contiki in Seminyak its a 4 star but doing massive deals as well if you are 18 -35. Good luck finding what you are looking for.

Wow what a difference a day makes. On wednesday night I went to some of the clubs and in all honesty it was quiet. Everyone seemed to be staying home and the places that were pumping I wouldn't be caught dead in. (Mainly because the girls are older than 35) Anyways met a girl on wednesday and she was from Sumatra 9 out of 10 body, 7 out of 10 face and even cuter sister.

The strange thing is she wouldnt give me her phone number but gave me her sisters instead and I must admit it was the sister that i wanted first but I missed her by minutes as she just got a call from a customer and had to leave. Don't get me wrong the other sister was cute as well and a real wildcat in the sack.

I will post more later when I catch up to the sister and hopefully will have some pics. So anyways went out again last night just to MBargo and let me tell you it was Prime grade girls everywhere. One of the local modelling agencies decided to come out and I can only say impressive.

Also the calibre of working girl last night was much better, for once a group of them decided to dress up and I can only say from jeans and tshirts one night to full glam the next. meeting a gfe type is easy to do in kuta, you probably wont have any problem. and i've never had a girl rip me off in 5+ years of mongering in south east asia - of course its not impossible it could happen, but generally speaking it just doesn't seem to happen much.

the only problem with your plan is theres no surf on "the other side of bali", if you mean lovina/north coast. though west of kuta around negara, or north of sanur would probably be good for surfing and less crowded... i'd just hate for you to show up in lovina, surfboard in hand, girl at your side, only to see the little 1-foot waves they have around there...

I was in Bounty bar last night watching Wolrd cup and noticed a couple of Indo chicks sitting to the side. Walked by them and sure enough one of them said hello. I sat down and talked for a while. She wanted 300K for all night. She was 26 from central Java. Pretty good - speaks good english too.

Word of warning.

I agree the surgery is first class. I had a teeth clean and was impressed. However, at the time I was told I needed 6 (SIX!) fillings. Thought it was a bit odd, having had a check up in Australia a year before with nothing required. Declined the treatment and visited my dentist in Oz a few months later. Result? No holes, no treatment required!

I can only presume the dentist wanted some extra cash from a bule while he had me in his chair?

Honestly at the moment it is like shooting in a barrel as to where the best girls are and when, I went out all over the weekend and the good pickings are hiding somewhere. I would suggest looking more in MBargo, Dejevu or Double 66 as thats where the cuter ones tend to go. Bounty from what I saw the girls are a lot older (not to my taste). Firstly let me say guys be wary if in the clubs or even Discovery Mall , it seems pickpockets are running rife at the moment. Even to the point on Monday I was at discovery and my mobile disapeared on me. I am really annoyed after buying one of the better phones.

Ordinarily the girls arent overly aggressive in finding customers but let me tell you last night if you couldn't pick up you should go live in antartica.

Hit MBargo last night until about 3am and the pickings were not too bad, there are a couple of little groups that are tending to come in lately that are of a standard that we all like to play with.

The only bad thing is that they don't come out to play until about 1am which stuffs me up as I work during the week (Poor Prof I hear you all saying LOL) apart from that there are some real lookers hitting MBargo at the moment, be wary though as they will start with 1 million and it is up to you to negotiate.

Drunk bules, with slutty (:D) looking ayam on their arms, tearing off into the night on their Honda 125s, a couple of spills, no harm done, then the ayam that had not yet found a customer, frantrically searching, searching, searching. I was propositionned by several drunk girls, and politely declined.
I was so happy to be sober, refreshed, and ready for the day ahead.

I am freshly single here in Bali, decided I needed some space. I am not one to go to clubs, as they start rolling about an hour before I normally wake up in the morning. I am normally in bed by 10.00, up at 4 or 5, and walking the beach with the dogs at 6.15

The beach is fabulous, every morning there are lots of girls running, walking, strolling. Well what can I say according to so many girls I talk to up here what 1Ball has said must be true... I mean we treat the girls well, take them out to decent meals, pay them extremely well for what they would make if they weren't in the game and then they exspect us to roll over and give up a life so that they can still go out and play with their friends. The one thing I have found is there are two ways of thinking in Bali/Indonesia

1. The girls have a completely warped sense of reality and truely don't think that a bule has any idea of what is happening

2. No matter what we think we are always wrong

I may sound bitter here but I have to say after only 9 months in Bali the amount of girls who all say the same thing leads me to think that they are all so desperate to find a guy with security etc. that they will do anything in their power to keep it. The stupid thing is when they have it they get so complacent in their lives that they will at some stage totally stuff it up... Don't get me wrong there are some great relationship that I see in Bali, but I hear of a lot more of the girls going gila (crazy) for something new after a while because they suddenly think that there is someone / something better for them... To me thats when its time to move on.

Apart from that I still love Bali and the people, and I gotta say the girls are starting to look good again when I travel about...

Watch out for the new night club opening next to the other side of Double 66 soon it will be the place for all the lookers for a while.

I was amused by your post having received sms (which I assume your communication was) similar to that myself. However your friend does seem particularly irked by your moving on - or more likely (no aspersion meant), on your transfering your funding to another beneficiary.

I think this attitute prevails much more in Bali than in JKT; girls (and other street traders) tend to be much more agressive and rude. Generally, they are not native Balinese but "kampung" girls from JKT or elsewhere. Also, in their defence, they do encounter a lot of men (usually tourists) who (unlike Prof Designer himself of course) probably come close to fitting her description.

I admit it sometimes I can be nearly everything she said, but hey I'm a guy :) the one thing she forgot was that I always treated her with respect and the main reason I moved on was she had many lumps in her breasts what little she had and I have already been through an exwife and a mother both who had breast cancer and emotionally i just couldnt go there again, Denise refused point blank to come with me to doctors so I just in the end cut my losses. I agree about the absurd price, I went there last month and the start off price was 500K !! Actually the basic massage charge is negotiable as well. When I went to pay they said had I been there before. so I said yes and she said how much did you pay last time. I stabbed a guess at what it should be and said 40,000 which is what I paid.Went to this place about a month ago and had the HJ for 100000. However when I went for the shower either the girl or the cleaning blokes nabbed some money from my wallet since when I got back to the hotel I was an extra 200000 missing. This must happen so much though since they don't have lockers there so it's quite difficult to keep an eye on your stuff all the time espcially when you head into the shower.

For the best combination of easy access to night-life, mongering, and diving you really have to be down south, in Sanur or the Kuta-Legian-Seminyak-Oberoi block.

While there's diving at Sanur itself, for anything interesting you have to go a bit further away by boat or car - but there's quite a lot within a few hours at the most.

Sanur is the center of hard-core brothel mongering; the other locations have better clubs, pubs and restaurants; in general, they get better the further you go away from Kuta towards Oberoi, where more expats live.

There's no diving right off that zone, but even so, it's a good base and still close enough to diving, with a short drive.

If you base yourself at the much better diving sites - Candi Dasa, Amed, etc - you'll be drinking a marginally cool beer and staring out at the moon, exchanging stories with other divers. Some have a few bars and restaurants, and you could always get lucky picking up someone there, but it's not really such a sure bet - which is not to say it doesn't happen.

Just use that for a start and search some of those names.

I will be going to Bali for a week next week. It is my first time. I was searching a bit about bali in the forum, but didn't find what I was looking for. I hope you forgive me asking such a general question here. I just don't have the time to go too deep into old reports this week (This is one of the very few questions I ever asked).

Which area in Bali is good or best for a combination of mongering and diving, best with some nightlife, but hotels not too expensive. (Preferrably around 30$, if available, but should be GF).

Does anyone have experience with the Bali Bungalo on Jl. Pantai Kuta.
I want to book at least for the first night from here, then maybe change if I find something more interresting.
Hardcore brothel mongering is not my thing. I prefer chatting up girls in bars or clubs. So I chose not to stay in Sanur. If someone has a specific recommandation for a Hotel, preferrably with internet access at not more than 30 Dollars, I would be happy to hear.

this dive shop, along with several others, is actually located on jl danu posa, same as many of the local brothels! anyway after a bit of discussion on this board earlier i think the consensus is that the best combo of diving and mongering is to stay in the middle of bali's *****-capital, sanur, and use a dive shop like this one to dive nusa penida and padangbai/candidasa. (though for a more off the beaten track idea i think i'm gonna post up a quick review of labuan bajo on the "other areas" section in a minute)

as for amed/liberty wreck, all my friends who've dived the liberty say it's a nice dive ruined by the presence of about 100 other divers all day every day, and the only way to enjoy it is to stay overnight and dive it at 7am during the off season (feb-march) however a night dive might be fun there as well, and 7am even in the high season would have to be better than mid-morning - it *is* supposedly a really cool dive other than the crowding.

also you can bring a girl with you up to amed from the sanur brothels, i always used to pay 6-700 for overnight (return by 1pm) but now i think i was overpaying and 300 would have been enough. only got that price once though, from a girl who owed me a favor. anyway if you do an overnight with a sanur girl, don't pay her till you get back - recently a friend had trouble with an overnight visit cause he paid her up front, so she didn't see any need to stay more than an hour. i've had similar problems with various working girls before till i learned to never pay up front no matter how much they complained. 1/2 first 1/2 upon completion of time is the only compromise i'm willing to make for those who still insist on payment up front after 5 minutes of discussion. i wont trust anyone who wont take the above compromise, and most girls will agree to money after if you act friendly, explain you've had problems before, and maybe show them you actually have the cash with you.

If you actually plan on staying in the Tulamban area, there is a small dive shop directly in front of the wreck. If you have your own gear, they will charge you 10$ for a tank, and if you want a guide, you pay him an additional 10$. That's 20$ for a dive, morning, afternoon or evening. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the shop, but you can't miss it if you are standing on the beach in front of the wreck.
Of course, the price I mention here is for "Remember me? I was here diving with you last year, and you told me you'd give me the good price when I come back".
If you show up and tell them you've never been here, you can expect the price to double!Thanks a lot to all for the good info. So Bali is a bit more expensive than Boracay. There You pay 25$ including gear and one guide to the group (We were 2 or 3 plus guide). Returnung customers 20% off. Nitrox or night dive (If you don't bring your own torch/batteries) a little extra. I will have to find a guide anyway because I am alone this time, and don't want to go with a buddy whom I don't know who is not at least a dive master and familiar with the site.

Another question: I have done wreck dives in Boracay (that is a very easy one) even at night, but don't have the padi license for that. Would that be an issue there?

I have shown up at several dive shops without my "C" card, and been told, "tidak apa2".

Well, in Boracay there are several dive shops that wouldn't even let you put your head into the wreck before the exchange of licenses: 1 Wreck License against many green ones. If they are not that smart in Bali, the better.

I could not stand the noise of Kuta around popy lane 2 where my guesthuse was. Lot of pimps and motorbike drivers proposing young ladies but i dont trust them, some ladies one motorbikes, but to find FL, you have to go to Bounty or Mbargo.
I did not like the atmosphere, with all those good looking surfers, more numerous then ladies, so I headed to Sanur.

Sanur is a relaxing dead place with lot of resorts, but around Danau Poso, I found the X houses , you shall see signposted with X, but when you enter, no girls, only rooms.
Usually the ladies are brought by the pimp, I asked to see them in the nearby house where they were waiting house. They looked TV, which seemed to interess them more than me :-(
I took the only one who smiled at me but it was a good choice, she allowed pictures for 100 000more (st FROM 150 0000, BUT LADY HAD ONLY 1/3)
I invited her to come in my room mornings, but she said it is forbidden.
There are no stunners here but I like the laid back atmosphere.

I met 2 guys who negociated for 100 000 but they where young and handsome, they laughed at the ladies who were not beautiful enough for them but fucked them. For me it was 150000 at least.

After staying 2 nights at Kuta (Pulled a cute petite girl out of Bounty for lt 500000, she was nice and did her job, but nothing special. ),
I moved to Sanur yesterday, because Kuta is too much of a tourist place to me. Went past the X houses in Sanur on Jalan Danau Poso.
Passing on the road some girls waved at me. I went in and took a smiling girl for St 200000. She had a push up bra that I thought would reveal some dissapointment. But I was very surprised that after clothes came off she had a stunning body (Face only 6-7, Body 8-9).
The session was so good(we took more that 1 hour) that I decided to ask her for the night out. I went there at 8pm and we left for a drink in some bar and then back to the room. It was one of the most enthusiastic girls I had in a long time. She left in the morning and I will go back to get her again tonight. I feel Bali girls are more relaxed than the Thais in average, but out on the streets there is way more hazzle, since for money changers and transportation other than taxis (which are terribly overprized at almost 70% of Hong Kong level), cheating seems to be the default.
I will also check out Deja Vu and Double6 in Seminyak, which I was told are way better than Bounty

You'd love the liberty dive. Real nice for just a shore dive. Other shore dives from amed is not so nice. You need to go out to sea.( I like the sharkcave spot from amed)

PS sanur to tulamban is not a 20 minute drive...MUCH longer.If you want to do a serious dive at tulamban. Do a late morning dive, lunch, late afternoon dive at the wall than night dive wreck. Nect day head for Kuta, but dive twice at amed area. A good tip..wear a fullsuit if possible. Water in bali is COLD>

The last I was in Sanur was November 2003 and compared to Kuta, Sanur is more suitable for older people. Folks that want their well deserved rest. Maybe it's me and perhaps things have changed in Sanur after my last traffic but there isn't much female traffick. I was hesitant to enter buildings with a white X on the door (I don't remember if a house with 3 X or 1 X is for bed olympics), quite a few. As my Bahasa Indonesia is poor, I may end up in less favourable situations.

There is a joint adjacent to the bar TKS (Danau Buyan street) that has women sitting outside. Certainly not the best looking women and past their prime. You can them home. LT was at that time Rp. 300K.

Here are my experiences in Bali.

Arriving in the airport I alerady got confronted witht the cheating that goes on here to an extent that I have only experienced in India so far (in Asia).

I had prepared (US$) one 100 note and two 10s and one 5 in my wallet to change 100 and pay 25 (or 10) for my Visa.
The guy explained me that in Indonesia the week (saturday to saturday) has 8 days, so I had to pay 25 (10 for up to 7 days). I handed the money over, got my visa and went. Only at the Change counter I realized that I had given him my 100 note instead of a 10. (I haven't handled any USD cash except 100s in the last 10 years. So I made all my way back to find out theat the guy had put my bills to the side to see if I would return or not. I was warned.

The next issue was changing money. All are "authorized money changers". Some advertise 8900 or 9000 for USD, others up to 9395.
All those who offer significantly oevr 9000 either charge 5-7% commision or try to cheat you on confusing you with small 20000 bills handing over 100000 by 100000. Never try to change more than 100 USD at a time in those places, and note down the serial number.

Then there is the issue with the 1996 bills and some serial numbers of 2001. Some don't change them at all, some at a lower rate (8500).
There is one changer in Kuta where they are honest and professional, and even change 1996 bills at full rate. "Central Money Changer". Open every day from 9 to 9. Everyone knows them, but they are a bit out of the centre.
I guess it is a 10-15 mins walk from Bounty to the south. At the end of Jalan Legian turn left, then go straight until you cross the bridge. Central is on the opposite side. You can't miss it.

Now to the girls. Almost every girl everywhere will return a smile, wich seems to come from the heart, not the front of the face like in Thailand. It is very easy to chat them up.

For freelancers, in Bounty, there are many girls sitting downstairs beside the entrance at the tables after midnight. Even though there are more good looking surfers than girls in the disco upstairs, those girls downstairs are not into that, they are into making some money.
There must be more places in Kuta, but almost all the bars are almost empty these days. Bounty was the only one I found action around midnight. It is easy to find girls there. I took one on my first night there, before advancing to Sanur. (See my last report).

Now cheating again: Transportation is very overpriced here. Taxis run at 4400 per kilometer, whic is almost 65% of Hong Kong price. Considering that petrol is 3 times more expensive in Hong Kong this is way too much. And I found out later, if you know the meter price, you can bargain fixed prices at about 50-70% of the meter rate. To go to the dive site I was quoted up to 400000 for one way, whereas a taxi rent for one day to go anywhere would be 300000.
In Bali even public Buses don't have a fixed price. A driver of a small green bus wanted 30000 for a ride from Sanur to Denpasar, that should have been 5000. I almost wanted to tell him that this was not about the cherry of his daughter, but only a ride to Denpasar.

After spending 2 nights with a girl from Jalan Danau Poso I went to Tulamben for diving. It was very difficult to have locals tell me the real prices for the transportation, since they do not want to interfere with those cheating the money out of the tourist(even Indeonesian).

So here are the prices I paid (decided to try the local way of travelling, since I had time).
Taxi from Sanur to Butambulan (35000) then a bus to Amlapura (20000). Then from there a bus to Tulamben (10000). Connection between the buses is quite easy. If you tell the driver where you want to go, he will connect you to the next bus waiting somewhere on the road.
Arrived there around 2 pm (took me 3 hours all together). Went to
Matahari Resort (recommended by Minni Vangsgaard, a Danish lady running Crystal Divers in Sanur) who became Indonesianafter 10 ears in Bali and really knows what she talks about. he wopuShe would have charged me 80 Dollars for a trip with 2 dives and still gaev me the tip to go by myself if I want to save some money. But the main reason I went by myself was, that I wanted to do the wreck dive early morning. (Hi\undreds of divers during the day).
The room was 100000 with a/c, (in Tulamben internet is only with 56k dialup in the 2 shops available, having a competition whose computer is slower,
No Skype possible. One needed 15 mins to boot win XP. By that time I left.)
At 8 pm I found myself all alone in the resort bar, listening to the waves and having a beer. (The girl didn't want to go with me, since she needs to send her sister to Denpasar on her motorbike every day).
But I was ok with that, because I was completely spent after the 2 nights with her, where not much sleeping was involved.

Prices for diving: First dive with equipment 200000, second dive 100000, plus 100000 for the guide each dive. It seems that is the best price available, and the resort is good. Directly on the waterfront.

We did the Wreck at 6.45 in the morning (I had slept enough by then anyway). At the wreck there were only 5 more divers going in 5 mins before us, and we didn't meet them again, it was a great dive.
The second dive at the wall (drop in) didn't impress me that much, since I used to dive in Boracay, and nothing can beat Yapag so far.
The water was quite warm (27 degrees).

Girls in Sanur: Go to Jalan Danau Poso for the X houses. If you need some help, go in the evening to House number 159 (the second house on the right hand side if you come from Jalan Danau Tamblingan.
The owner of the house where some of the girls live (not work) speaks good English. Her name is Sonya if I remember well. She can explain you the pricing structure and give you advice on where to go.
(Young girls just from school are more expensive, because that's what the Japanese are after) the older a girl is, the better the price can be, especially if she likes you. 150000 should be possible for ST, and less I don't consider as fair. Remember, 150000 is just 600 Baht. That is Pattaya level, but the girls are much nicer here.

Was in Bounty again last night, but due to getting up at 5:30 in the morning for divin, I was not able to stay until the action begins. On the way to the hotel I met the girl from the first night, but didn't want to bring her with me.

The one I found in Sanur has not the most beautiful face, but the chemistry was good. I stay in Kuta again, leaving tomorrow for Bangkok and will ask her if she wants to come over (with her motorbike that should not be a problem).

Over all: After I learned my lessons of having to be aware all the time, I can really have a good time here.

Saturday to saturday is indeed 8 days. Start counting, beginning with the first saturday and including the last saturday. I don't think anywhere in the world it will be 7 days. That is, if you didn't leave at friday.

The visa guy is a honest one. How would you explain then that he had your money to the side to wait for your return? If he intended something else, he could deny that you paid with the 100 bill.

Call it semi honest. He could have told me right away. If he had denied having got the bill, I would have tried to let someone do his accounts, since I exactly know what happened.
Here is another story:
Just made a call to my girl to ask her to come over to Kuta. The Hotel reception has a computer that shows the charge. The charge on the computer was 3000.
He said: "You talked 3 minutes, so thats 9000"
After telling him that total does not only mean total in indosesian language but also in English he said ok.
So I asked him: "Why do yiou charge me 9000 then." He answered: " Oh sorry".

I complained to the hotel management and they took action.

On my second last day I happened to step into a reataurant in Kuta that was a very big surprise into the other direction. A German cook who has worked in several 5 star hotels worldwide settled down in Bali and opened several restaurants.
I went to Cafe Sendok in Kuta on Jalan Legian. The place is very clean, excellent food and -without exception- very cute waitresses always open for an eye flirt and/or smalltalk if the time allows, and very decently priced. Considering the superb quality I would even call it cheap. No hazzles. The beer I ordered (White ber imported from Germany, which costs 45000+15%=51750 in a so called German place (Mama's) on the opposite side of the road, was 39900 (no charges added) in the menu and appeared for whatever reason at 37500 on the bill.

Since that was a very honest setup, I told this to the Bar Captain. After checking with the Clerk she told me it was ok like that. When returning in the evening the price was still the same.

They have a group of 4 restaurants on the island. Highly recommandable.

i love bali but this is one of the problems with the place. the balinese, i find, would never actually rob you, as in sneak in your room and take your stuff, or hold you at gunpoint and take your wallet, pickpocket etc (some people from other islands might, but it's still fairly uncommon in bali) however with prices and so on the sky's the limit - if they can charge you 5 times the going price for something and get away with it, they won't think twice about it. even friends of mine i've known for years will try to overcharge me for things, or not tell me the right price when another balinese is blatantly overcharging me for something. fortunately i've got some javanese staff/friends who seem to be much more on my side and willing to let me know whats up.

Thats why I went for a week to check out the place before I bring the family for a holiday. So I know where to stay where to rent the car or driver, change money, dive and dine. Alone I am much more flexible to react in cases of difficulties.

I agree with Tiger and DJ, unfortuneately 90% of the Indonesians see us as walking ATM's and their way of thinking is they are western, they have money... Don't get me wrong I love the place and as long as you keep your wits about you you will do fine. I find a lot of the times its like a game to them to see how much extra they can get out of the dumb bule.

Even the working girls will start at a ridiculous price and see how much you know, and if they can get you for the higher price. But hey its their livlihoods so I guess good on them for trying for a better income for themselves.

I especially like it when you catch them out and then they feign innocence like it was the biggest mistake in the world.

All I can suggest is don't rush in to buy the first thing, without first looking and comparing. Apart from that it can be quite a fun game if you are good at negotiating.

If they are in a tiny little shop, with a very high desk, and an advertised rate which is much higher than what it seems it should be, STAY AWAY. These guys are masters at deception. They will chat with you, laugh and joke, and rob you blind. Please do not try to beat them at their game, they are very skilled. Their goal is to rip you off.
It is not possible for the the legit money changers to offer a REAL RATE, (say for the sake of an example here, Rps 9,100 = 1US$), and the small shops to offer a rate which is significantly higher (for examples Rps 9,595 = 1US$).
So the goal is the get you in, have you let your guard down, and steal from you.

If the rate sounds too good to be true, it is !!!

renting a motorbike is fun and affords you a bit of independance. but a)kuta isn't a very good place to learn to drive one if you don't have some experience with asian traffic already, it's very crowded and busy. and b)it probably wont save you any time - i drove up to north bali on a bike soon after i arrived, and even with an indonesian girlfriend along for the ride to ask directions we kept getting lost, taking the wrong road etc, and what should have taken 2 hours to drive to took 8.

still, if you already have some experience with driving one, and just want to go from your hotel in kuta to the various clubs and so on, it does save a lot of taxi hassle to rent one. and riding around getting lost in the ricefields is a pretty nice way to see bali - just take the ngurah-rai bypass north for about an hour, then take a few random turns uphill once you get to the "T" intersection at the end of the bypass - that would be the sidemen regency of bali, its very beautiful there, just like the postcards. but if i were on a tight schedule i don't know if it's the best way to do it, like i said you'll probably get lost. where exactly are you planning to go?

anyway if you do decide to get one, you should be able to rent a honda supra for 35-50000 a day, depending on your bargaining skills. there are loads of places renting them out in seminyak. test it before you take it away, including starting it yourself (dont let them start it for you, it may be a piece of junk that only they know how to start after years of practice) i havent had anyone try to pin old damages on me but it might be worth writing down any big pre-existing problems with it on your reciept (which you should keep, and check the date on) any cosmetic damages you might inflict on a rental bike should be covered by 100,000rp you can pay upon return if you manage to crash it - if they ask for more they're probably ripping you off.

if you get stopped by the police, politely listen to them blah blah blah for a few minutes, then offer them 50000, it's the going bribe for whatever they say you did. but the better trick is to simply NEVER make eye contact with any policemen, ever. act like you dont see them, and simply keep driving if they wave you over - 99 times out of 100 they'll be too lazy to get on their bikes and chase you! i do this all the time, saves me a fortune in time and bribes. if they do actually chase you down (unlikely), just pretend like you didn't see them, politely listen to them blah blah blah for a minute, then offer them 50,000, it's the going bribe for whatever they say you did.

also you may need to know 50-100.000 is your normal "out-of-court" pre-police payoff if you crash into someone or run someone off the road or whatever - it happens. if they dont look like they seriously need hospitalization, dont freak out, just apologize, offer them 50 thousand, agree to 100000 if they insist on more, but whatever you do try to take care of it yourself before any police get involved - then you'll have to pay them, AND the police. and dont tell anyone where you live, they may come back for more later!

and finally, it's really a good idea to wear your helmet when you drive.

1Ball - you are absolutely right - these guys offer a tempting rate to "sucker" you in. I am not exactly naive when it comes to dealing with people like this but unusually, last time in Bali I needed cash quickly and only had pounds sterling. I went to a small kiosk offering a good rate but I KNEW they would try and con me. I was really ready for it; I watched like a hawk as they counted the cash out and I was 100% certain I had what I should have had. I also had a record of the numbers on the notes I gave them. So I felt smug as I drove away - then bugger me! When I got to the hotel I only had two thirds what I thought I had! I was 1 million short!. These guys should be on the stage.

The good news is - and this is worth remembering - I went to the police and told them the story, making it clear to the sergeant that I would see him right if he got the money back. At once we were in the Jeep and off to the money changer. At first (in Indonesian obviously) they told him they'd never seen me before and had not taken pound sterling from me. So the cop asked to see their till whereupon he pulled out the 20 pound notes with the numbers on which I had given him. With the notes in his hand he asked them if he should tell their "big boss" about this and they said "no they would rather die". So he handed ALL the 20 pound notes back to me and gave me a lift back to the hotel. At the hotel I gave him around 100 pounds, leaving me well up on the deal and him very happy with a few weeks extra wages in his pocket. Who says Police corruption is a bad thing....?

B69, funny story, same thing happened to me with 100$ bill. I ended up shorted by only about S10, but didn't notice until I had bought a few things.
You know, you look in your pocket, scratch your head, do a mental calculation of what you have spent, and can't figure out where the balance went.

I wonder if somewhere tucked in the alleyways of Denpasar, there is a "screw the tourist out of his hard earned money" school. Because these guys are good, really good. As I said, a telltale sign is the extremely small shop, the reall high desk so they can hide what they are doing, AND there are normally 2 guys working the deal. They chat away like they want to be your best friend.

Don't want to start a religious discussion about Buddhism, and Karma, but it always amazes me when I see some of these guys putting down their offerings in the morning, in front of their shop. I wonder what they are saying to their God. "Please God, bring me unsuspecting tourists today so I can really fuck them over". Instead of praying they have a good death so they may return to a better life, why not lead a better life now, and not screw with people.

I should add, if you can show up with an international driver's license, you should. If not, you will spend the morning in Denpasar with the fellow who is renting you his motocycle at the local drivers license office, getting a temporay local license. An amusing experience, but not worth it, if you are only there for a holiday.

agreed, it's great if you can bring an international drivers liscence. but i'd recommend skipping the local temp tourist liscence - it's like 300,000 and like you said it takes all morning. maximum bribe for no liscence should be 50000, and even if you're unlucky you probably wont get pulled over 6 times. just tell the rental place the same thing you'll tell the police - "yeah, of course i have an international drivers liscence, i just left it in my room" and dont let them talk you into wasting your time and money.

i wonder if the bike rental dude gets a cut of the liscence fee? i can't imagine they'd want to waste half their day taking you there otherwise.

then i'll clarify how to get to some good scenery, you'll definitely want to check out the sideman area of bali. go to the same bypass that takes you to the airport, but instead of going south, go north, and at the north end of denpassar look out for where the road splits in 2 sections, both heading the same way - you'll want to be in the right hand road, then turn right and go under the big arches - if you get to the traffic light AFTER THE ROAD SPLITS IN 2 you've gone a bit too far, so make a u turn at the light, and follow the big road back till you go under the arch over the road. everything is easy after thus, it takes about an hour or so to get to the end of this bypass, where it ends in a t-junction with a traffic light. turn left at this light, then take your next right, which will head uphill into the mountains (actually almost any road heading inland in this area will take you somewhere pretty). from there you can just drive around taking random roads, the views are beautiful. when you're tired and want to head back, just ask "bypass?" to any random stranger (though very old men and women wont really be too comfortable talking to foreigners) and go in the direction they point. every time you come to a fork in the road with someone nearby, ask again - eventually you'll be back on the bypass and can easily find your way back from there. dont leave this finding your way back part till sunset though or you'll be stuck out in the middle of nowhere in the dark.

you could also start in ubud and just sorta get lost down some back roads around there. again just ask "ubud" to random strangers when your ready to head back.

bring a map, but dont rely on it too much, it's more for useful for the general idea of where you are than for following those little back roads around. i've done this a bunch of times, it's a great way to see the real bali.

Had to laugh when I was reading the previous stories from B69 and 1Ball, I had a similar experience where a photographer friend and myself had to change money in a hurry in Legian. My friend pulled out $250 Au and they said oh sorry they only had small money, they counted it out twice infront of us and then a third time a guy comes up to the one counting and starts talking to my friend and counting the money again. Bugger me but I was watching pretty closely the whole time , just after counting the money he collected the lot and tapped it back together on the edge of the bench. and a good third is suddenly dropping to the floor. I immediately said pick it all up, and they both looked like they didn't know what I said, so I repeated pick it up. Again they said what, so I said fine I will go and get the tourism police. Suddenly they said oh you wanted big money and paid us with 100,000 notes and where spot on with the money. We were lucky, these guys are so quick and they have their routines down pat so as B69 and 1 ball have said always be very careful and always try and use the big money changer at the bridge just down from Bemo corner.

They mean by that, officialy, the classic normal massage, but they know that you can desire something else. actually it does not mean they are the real providers but they will drive you where you can get what you want and get some earn from that.
In few meters walking it happened to me several times so i decided to try. I followed a group of yourng girls, that claimed to be over 18 but anyway i'd never go with them, they just droven me to a crappy beauty parlour called "Salon Dianita" in Jl. Majapait. Mamasan asked me to choose a girl among the 2 available and we bargainjed price, i was firm to tell them i had no more than 150.000 rp. to spend and so i was sucesfull, thouhg i read here many of you spend usually less to get more from the average service i have got on a dirty materasse on the floor in a cubicle: a bit bbj and FS witha cute but not special one.

I was tempted to try again, few hours later, again wlaking among market in Jl. Melasti and Jl. Legian. a young pretty shop assistant asked me again if i was intrested in massage and i dared to answer i wanted sex and i wanted it with her. she answeredm very politely and smiling, that she had husband around somewhere there, probabbly en excuse but anyway did not kick me in the ass! after that we bargained price and she called a friend, an older woman, who drove me on her motorbike to another massage parlour, called "Bintang" (like the beer) in a small street crossing the one of Dianita. Again 2 girsl, but much better level, i chosed a real cute and had more or less same service, a little bit more professional, but even if i bargained 15 eurod for one hour all i had was one shot (bbj and fs) and stop. but atleast the old lady was still waiting outside to drive me back on her moto.
so, it was my fist time in Indonesia, i was not alone and had not much time on my own, i just wanted to taste sometign after readign wonders here, but i can say it was nothign special. how can u guys find out the good providers among that? how to get bbjs, cim etc in such kind of environment?
final thought: i feel that also in Ubud something moves, haven't the chance to try but i feel is not such a sleeping place anymore..

bali - was there for 3 days and its a heaven on earth. arrived at ngurah rai airport in the morning. after clearing my visas straight away took a cab for 45k rupiah to kuta. warning: try to avoid helpers/tour guide, you will find many of them approaching once you are outside the airport- these guys markup the rate of taxi and rooms. there's a airport taxi for fixed price on your right once you go out from the airport.

its a 25minutes journey from the airport. check-in to agung cottage in kuta at jln legian for 200k per night includes tax and breakfast, nice room with nice swimming pool. the hotel is just a minute walking distance to bounty, mbargo and few other disco/pubs.

i've read tiger1 report on overpriced transportation in bali, so i decide to rent a speda motor (motorbike) and i've ready my international driving licence as suggested by dj monger. went to a renting agency just next to
the hotel called made. rent a speda yamaha 110cc for 40k rupiah/day with insurance and i requested for extra helmet.. you never know when you need it lol. as i'm familiar with asian style of driving it wont be difficult for me to handle in such situation. went all around kuta/legian/seminyak for the first day (though these place is in the same place/road). most tourists
will be in kuta as this is where you can find famous kuta beach and nightlife entertainments. for those traveling on their own transport its suggested that you bring a long bali map and just ask anybody (preferably youngsters) the direction back to kuta if you are lost, the balinese are always there to show you the right path.

in three short days i've covered denpasar (the city), sanur, ubud, tanah lot with my bike and i only spend 15k rupiah for the fuel. for those want to go for shopping i suggest you to do so in denpasar as the price are reasonable compare to kuta. for those want something relaxing and quite i suggest you to stay in sanur (nice beach) or ubud (something like hill station).

now come to the main section lol.. most freelancers can be found in discos and pubs. in bounty (the most happening compare to others) you will find lots of girls sitting near the entrance and these girls are more than 30 years old and they are directly in to the business. if you go further in you will see the disco its a kinda ship structure. this is where the young freelancers age 18-28 some even **** hanging out there and dance like there's no tomorrow. just approach to any girl and introduce yourself, buy her drinks, dance, chitchat and nego the price. i'd say you definitely going to score here. most of them are really young and cutie! with tight box and juicy clit. most of them will start with crazy price tag i.e 1-2 millions etc.. nego the price and bring it down but be reasonable to their service. in bed i'd say indonesian score the highest in asia! thailand is second. reasonable price would be 250k(st) - 500k(lt).

It all started a few years ago when the dollar changed to a large head and the new $100 notes. The banks would only take the new notes, as long as they had no folds or wrinkles and no marks or smuges.

Then last year there was the counterfit 1996 $100 US notes. The banks would not take them and most money changers would not unless they could give you a lower exchange rate. Giving them a higher profit.

Now they have learned that most visitors with US$ will take a slight drop in exchange rate if the changers use the date excuse.

So now the newest bullshit scam is that the letters that proceed the serial numbers on US$100 bills are suspect. So the changers tell you they cant take bills with certain letters like CD or CF, FR, FA etc. That is unless you accept a lower exchange rate.....

It never ends, they will always find a way to beat the system and get that extra 200 ribu per $1.00 US.

You have to admire there resolve.

Using the ATM or CC can be good if you dont want to carry around much cash but consider this.

1. You are out with a girl in an area that doesnt have an ATM machine or it is offline (how many times have I seen that..) and I havent yet seen a girl that takes Credit Cards.

2. Everytime you use your ATM card you are charged a nonbank fee which is about $5 AUS this adds up especially as most machines only let you take out 1.5 million at a time, although the Commonwealth at Kuta will let you take out 3 mill. and I have been told Citibank does as well. On top of that everytime you use a CC you get charged an extra fee for using the card of between 5 & 8%

At times its just far better to have a thousand with you get it changed in Central and then lock it in your safe or safety deposit box. I heard of a monger the other day who was stupid enough to leave all his money in his wallet. Fell asleep after the service and then the girl helped herself to 800 pounds and disappeared... unfortunately for her the police knew about her and raided her house a couple of days afterwards. Dont get me wrong a lot of girls are only parttimers and wouldnt think of robbing you, but really how can you tell if your girl is a good girl or not? There are many good girls out there but also some very bad ones as well... just be aware.

I am talking about Jakarta not Bali it is much easier to change money in bali because of the tourtist spot more money changer than jakarta ,But careful of the scam there offer higher rate and try to short change you with small bill even in bank in jakarta you will have problem with some bill .

Thanks to Professor Designer, I once again had a great time in Bali. I stayed at the inter Continental hotel. Security was tight. But no hassles. Had one girl for over night. Another was short term. Under coaching from the learned Prof, paid 400,000 for the st 3 hours. Paid 700,000 fpr the over nighter + 200,000 for dinner and booze. but had a real friendly and satisfying encounters. Thank you professor from the bottom of my heart.

The average salary for girls on Bali is abt rp 10.000 (regular job if you get one) a day. In Sanur, "normal" is paying a girl rp 100.000 for sex and extra 100.000 if you rent a room. For a girl overnight in you own (hotel)room, 200.000 for a night is much money...
I think many brothers who stay in the Kuta area are spoiling the "market" by paying far too much... Remember that the living standard in Bali is lower than in Thailand, not to mention Japan, Europe or the US.

Sorry I have to jump in here... I have found that the average for a short time in Kuta / Sanur starts from 250.000 this depends on the quality of girl. I have been to a couple of the places where you can get the girls for 100.000 and they are not my style or type, so I am prepared to pay that little extra for someone I wouldn't try and chew my arm off in the morning over.

For a long time I very rarely pay over 500.000 and if more she would want to be exceptional. Please note I never tip a girl afterwards if I have paid over 300.000 and if they ask for taxi money I always say they have got all my money for the night... I agree with trying to keep the market price down, but a lot of the girls in the clubs are coming in from Jakarta etc at the moment so they are used to getting higher prices and wont really negotiate down that much.

Lets be fair here also, these girls have to put up with a lot of crap from a lot of people regarding what they do and if they can make 500.000 ($50US) a night then good on them. If it doesnt go in drugs then it is going to families that need it.

At the end of the day I believe in 2 things...

1. You get what you paid for.

2. If you are both happy with the negotiated price then thats ok. Its up to you to negotiate the best deal that you can.

I realise I have just opened a can of worms here, but lets be realistic about this all please...
