I made another visit to Khon Kaen recently, where I fared poorly at the hands of the local Thais. First I visited Ceasar Massage where everyone was very nice and honest, but I spent 1,700 baht on a 'Playboy' level girl, who unfortunately couldn't really do anything - no bbbj, and nothing else bb. One afternoon I tried Lilly's soapy massage in the Charoensi Princess Hotel in downtown Khon Kaen. Its just round the corner from Kosa or Pullman. A sketchy report of my recent ramblings in Isan cities Khon Kaen, Udon, Ubon, Nong Khai, Mukdahan, Sisaket, Roiet, Nakon Phanom.

Khon Kaen:

Many establishments allegedly closed: Zolid, 172, HiTech; latter now has Violin Karaoke and Full Moon music club. The former had oldish girls, the latter was nearly void of customers when I visited (I believe they opened recently).

I enjoyed the RAD club (turn left walking from the street that has Eric's bar and Pullman hotel, and continue walking a few hundred meters; at night you can't miss it with it's brightly lit red 'RAD' sign) with (some nice) coyotees dancing; one girl told me she could meet me after closing time (2am); a waiter in the club told me he could arrange a girl earlier, from outside, but in order to do so I had to barfine him so I could go with him and he could show me where. Sisaket:

Friendly small place. Stayed at the Kessari hotel, where I was offered inhouse delivery by bellboy, 1500 bht. But word got out to the frontdesk and it all became a bit awkward, so I didn't pull. The I-bar disco in the Prompiman hotel hurt my ears, so I went to the Nona disco instead, which had the typical Thai music and dance shows, and a lot of young people having fun. A mama in there was obviously pushing and selling some beautiful girls, but no Angrit spoken.

Roiet:

Stayed at the Mai Thai hotel, a one stop shop convenience for the mongerer: massage, karaoke, coyote-club all in this hotel. Closing remarks:

You'd have to like 'the hunt' if mongering in Isan; it has been said before by others, and I often found the hunt fun, if frustrating at times, often not resulting in a 'kill' or the ensuing initimacies where so-so, mostly because of language-difficulties or anxiety towards farangs. It definitely helps to speak more then basic Thai (or even better Lao/Isan), which I do not.

Since the mongering in Isan merely caters to locals, most of the girls for hire are quite pretty, slim, young and relatively fair-skinned; Udon was a noticable exception, as it seemed more geared towards farangs, and the girls, while friendly and not as jaded as BKK or PTTYA girls, are not as pretty as elsewhere in Isan.

i'm just back from nong khai after a visa trip in laos (i will report on my short stay in vientiane later in the appropriate section of the laos forum).

Having recently come into 10,000 baht and having been offered a lift to Khon Kaen I decided to splurge.

Service was fine, with decent BBBJ, some friendly closed mouth kissing, and so forth. I even 'went down' a bit. A rarity for me. And it was fresh and seemed shockingly tiny.

I donned the absurd torture device that they do insist on, just to go through the motions. Of course I enjoyed it not at all, but I noticed that she actually did seem to, a bit, and I had also noted she had expressed no size-related fears when introduced to my constant companion. So I went to work with insouciance and subtlety, but steely determination, to pursuade a young cutey to bend to my requests. I really didn't hold out much hope, but finally she did acquiesce, though for a truly sickening tip. Thus I was able to finish with reasonable satisfaction (though on her trim little belly and nubile breasts), but ended up very broke. Well, at least she was awfully cute.

I discovered a new value accomodation in KK. The PP Hotel, not far from the Train Station. Only 300 baht for a basic room with hot water and air. Large, not old, place, of about 6-7 stories with elevator and 24 hour very nice front desk.

In other notations I did drop by the soi of small traditional (fake-Kareoke) brothels, and there were a lot of reasonably attractive women there, most quoting me the 'real price' at 500 baht, with a few demanding 700 for the farang unpleasantness.

I also rather foolishly visited Violin Kareoke. The high end place. At about 3:00 AM. Yes, it was still open! I was charged almost 1, 000 baht for the room, girls drinks, etc etc, but lucked out with a 'game' girl who made out with me extensively, and gave me a pretty good hand job with lots of nipple nibbling in the room, no tip demanded. She kept saying 'no sex in room' though, and finally I had to finish myself off. Kind of a silly arrangement (almost like going to a strip club in the Bad Place), but it was strangely titillating, and there were some quite attractive girls there. They told me it was 2, 000 to the girl to go out for 3 hours of actual sex, pretty much just like Cleo Kareoke in Pullman Hotel. Girls roughly equivalent but perhaps slightly less attractive.Glad to know you visited villa massage after so many times living here Opebo, but 1300 baths! I used to know the golden age when price was 800 baths. Anyway I always got good time in this complex, have you visited their hotel? Until 2004 prices was 200 baths for air con room with tv(no cable) and hot shower, but rooms was bad maintened with tear sheet bed, and disgusting bathroom, but you are in the center of everything, many girls working the massage and the KTV live here too(alone or with their thai bf). About your last report, I agree with you Roma is a good place to stay(it was the residence of skinless if I ve good memory), sawasdee hotel is excellent too, I don t know now but before the top floor had ordinary room for 160 baths. Roma is OK at 500 baht for air and 250 for fan now, but only a few of the fan rooms have hot water. I find hot water far more important in Isaan in the winter than air. I did not know that there was a hotel connected to Villa Massage.. I wonder what was the name? Maybe Kaen Inn?

Even though I have visited this place all too much, I discovered something new the other day - Villa Soapy. Villa is the third 'real soapy' in KK, which I had heard of but never visited. I believe someone told me it was near or associated with, or connected to, the 'Kaen Inn'. In any case any tuk tuk can take you there, or you can just ask around near the Roma/Pizza Bake area. Asking for 'Villa Ab Nam Nuat' should probably work very well.

Walk out of the front door of the Roma to the street and turn right. Go less than a block and you will come to a bunch of vendors selling food. The Villa is right across the street. It's a large building and does not have a very conspicuous sign in Thai. Just cross the street and enter through one of two doors (the door near the corner takes you right in near the fishbowl).

I stopped by Villa once again, where I found that there were a lot of girls in the 'second class' window. When I had visited before I didn't even notice the second window - the first set of girls just sits on a long set of sofas in the open, and are 1,300. The cheaper 1,000 baht girls are just behind a window quite far from the seating area. Perhaps it is intentional to make their imperfections less perceivable, but I saw one that seemed very good looking, and the papa said she was 24.

In the room she turned out to have had a child in the past, so she wasn't quite up to the standard of Khon Kaen soapies. I guess that's the deal at Villa - the 1,000 baht girls have a burst seed-pod, the 1,300 don't. It really does make a big difference, even if there are no stretch marks. Anyway I remember at Lilly (the second-rate soapy at Princess Hotel) the girls had all reproduced, while most had not at the higher-levels of Kosa and Ceasar soapies (say the 1,500-2,200 baht levels).

So, perhaps in consequence of this shortcoming, BBBJ was unusually good, but BBFS could not be had. I went through the motions for a long while in the three standard positions, joylessly and without any pleasure, but finally removed the horrible rubber and acquiesced to a mere handjob. It went on for ages, and I really just didn't enjoy it, so I suggested we just give up, but the girl - as they sometimes do - took this as a challenge and redoubled her efforts. Finally I managed to finish, but without feeling satisfied.

HSH - this seems to be the trend throughout the country - loosening of the old Red/Thaksinish stricter ways. I love the new government. Enjoy it while it lasts gentlemen, no doubt the horrible populists will be back soon.

I recently visited the Sois in Udon, and found them thriving and very 'out in the open' - doors open and girls in sexy outfits visible as you strolled in the street in Soi 2. I drove down Soi Seven as well - lots of touts quoting 700 to bring girls to either the short time hotels or even some regular hotels, and I was shocked to see that one regular house off to the side soi on the left as you enter the main Soi looking open (didn't stop to check, but recommend that someone do so, it used to be a hell of a nice house). I also heard Soi Sow Fie Dang was open as usual but didn't visit.

In Soi 2 I visited the 'better' house on the side-soi to the left (the one where the hidden camera was supposedly brought in), and though it was open it was very picked over and had more men than women in the waiting/choosing area. The girls were very good looking as usual, and priced at the same 600. However when we visited the other houses there were lots of women - more than on previous visits, and many of them were on a par with the 'better' house. However the price for the better looking girls in the lesser houses is now 500-600 depending on the girl, and there was even one 800 baht girl in one house. The pimpmen stated she'd just arrived, though she didn't look as attractive to me as the extremely cute 500 baht girl sitting next to her. Anyway don't worry as there are still plenty of 400 baht girls available - still mostly very attractive but around mid to late twenties in age.

Interestingly the girls were very friendly - usually they are not at all friendly in these types of places. No sullen looks, and lots of smiles and joking friendly attempts to speak English. I suspect its the current 'open' policing which has left them feeling cheerful, the poor persecuted things. Anyway, alas, I didn't actually try any girls as I was exhausted from travelling to Udon, and I kept thinking of Lee66's warnings - I suspect I would be extremely unlikely to get anything I wanted in the room. So, the trip was just a survey, but I'm thinking of returning soon to actually try a couple.

And I may just wear a yellow shirt when I go!

Oh, and btw, the whole town retains its party atmosphere - perhaps it is high season, or perhaps it is the blessed loosening of strictures, but the farang streets and bar-areas seemed thriving and full of very farang-style dirty girls (the opposite of the Soi cuties, but very nice). Prices quoted in most bars were in fact Pattaya level - 500 short, 1,000 long time, 300 baht bar fine. So don't accept or believe if someone tells you its 1,000 short and more for long time in Udon, unless perhaps the girl is a true knockout. Finally there seemed to be a few more late night or all night bars, and even though the law is apparently still the absurd 12:00 AM closing, most bars seemed to have paid their 1:00-2:00 AM fees.

The hotel name of villa complex was not kaen inn, but simply "Villa hotel". It was ever recommanded in lonely planet!. But maybe the name has change now.

I returned twice to Sois and got precisely what I was looking for, so I'm in love with the place again. Price 400 plus a tip one day and 300 plus the next. I revisited soi 7 where I found the much missed house had in fact not reopened.

We also visited the Oscar and Valentine soapies, where we found a good lineup at Oscar and a so-so one at Valentine. The former had around 20 girls with slightly below par ones at the 1350 level and several very nice ones at the 1,650 and 1,850 levels. The latter had just one very pretty but jaded and exhausted looking Bangkok girl at 1,850 while the other half-dozen priced at 1,450 were all a bit too worn.

Budget for the two days:

Hotels - 350+250= 600 bahts
foodstuffs - 900
girls - 1,500
misc - 600
Total - 3,600 bahts

But if you are looking for a good thai wife. There are plenty here who would love a farand boyfriend but not interested in working in bars etc.

Can confirm. Went to soi 7 for the first time at Christmas. A Thai guy (whom I had just met in a karaoke bar) brought me there.
Visited 4 houses and the line-up was acceptable to good in all of them. In the 4th one I visited it was outstanding: 4 girls, all young, all doable, 2 of them were real cuties. I was quoted 300 bahts in all of them. Was surprised as I went with a Thai guy and expected him to get a commission. Maybe it's because I looked not really horny/eager as it was 3am and I had had quite a few beers.
Went with one of the real cuties. As expected her performance (no BJ, CFS) was so-so but at 300 bahts a shot still very good value especially considering her age and looks... Gave her and the Thai guy a small tip.

Directions: haven't seen any soi sign, neither could I see this soi on my map but basically if you drive on Wattananuwong Rd coming from the hospital and past Adulyadet Rd, it's the first soi on the left after the TV/radio (?) tower (a big red and white tower).

When I was finished at Soi Sow Fai Daeng I had a Leo with my newly found Thai friend and he wanted to show me another place. We rode a looong time (at least 15-20 minutes) and the guy was driving really fast, at some point I lost him and drove back to the city center. Must have been a hell of a good place if he so much wanted to go there despite the distance. Too bad...

I have to say that the scene in Udon is quite lively compared to other Isaan cities I've been to (I lived in UBon for a couple of months). I wasn't too impressed with the Farang orientated scene though, the only very few hot bargirls I've seen were already with expats/long time tourists.

You're right. For me, the Farang orientated scene in Udon Thani is not really interesting (girls are usually older, less attractive and more expensive than at the Thai-orientated places).

Nong Khai might be worth a visit too after the night has fallen (fun can also be had in the afternoon, but many venues open only later in the evening). The most beautiful P4P girls I've ever seen so far in the Land of Smiles were working in a brothel on Soi Suk Pracha in Nong Khai (but you can't do the deed on premises there, it's just a pick-up joint).

Maybe your Thai friend wanted to go there. Or at a local karaoke place in the province... I know quite a few in this area, but most of them are a waste of time in my humble opinion and the girls are usually way overpriced.

There are several other brothels in Nong Khai that are very similar to those that you can find in Udon Thani, but they are less numerous and the girls are often older and less attractive.

I also walked by but did not actually go in to take a close look. I was not impressed. This is certainly not the promised land of hot young girls from Laos.

Khon Kaen.

Bus station. I drove by slowly and saw very little action on Thursday evening. The women that were there were all crack***** lookalikes. I think there was one semi-hot one but I'm pretty sure it was a ladyboy. Maybe it is because I drove around that I wasn't approached by pimps that would show me more? IMO, avoid.

Little Soi behind Pullman Hotel. I never actually saw a sign for this Soi but prior reports say it is Song Suphanee. I just circled behind Pullman until I found it. There are 6 little brothels right next to each other. I drove by several times and eventually stopped to take a closer look at a little after 2am (probably too late.) Aside from one or two 'maybes', they were all ugly and old. I did not partake.

Violin Kareoke. I went there around 1130pm. Got a line up of about 8 girls. 2 were decent and actually not bad! One had really messed up teeth. Very bad. So I chose the other one. This was my first karaoke experience. She sang as I groped her a little and she would stop me if I went too far. There is much more groping permitted in Go-gos in my experience. This was pretty tame. I eventually asked if I can take her to my hotel. Nope! Not available, but the guy insisted he can get me another girl. At this point it is approaching 2am. I guess he calls some girls and gets no answers and I go home alone. BTW, 2 hours, I had 1 beer and 1 soda water, the girl had 4-5 lady drinks, came to just shy of 2, 000 baht. Semi-interesting for a first timer like me but definitely not worth it.

General Lessons:

In traveling various smaller cities of Thailand, I think there are two things to remember.

First, get there early. You really can not be too early if you want first pickings. This really hurts me because I'm a night owl and it also takes me a little nerve to take initiative and actually go to these places. For example, the beer bars in Chiang Mai are 85% uglies or low-average girls at 7pm. At 10pm it is 95% uglies.

Second, I am traveling by vehicle but finding places sometimes takes time, circling, and re-researching, etc. Commission be damned. I think having a tuk-tuk driver take you on a loop of places is possibly the best strategy for people who are new in a city. If you don't like selection at one place they can just hurry up to the next place and you are not wasting your time in order to save $10-15. I will start doing this from now on.

You might find better looking girls in the soi that is located just behind the Nong Khai Grand Hotel, and a lot better, on soi Suk Pracha (at a pick-up joint that is open only when the night has fallen). Prices are higher too (in the 500-700 baht range for a farang, depending on the place and not including the room, while it's only 300 baht at Soi Sri Boon Ruang 2 or similar places on Meechai Road, room included).

Anyway, Soi Sow Fai Deng at 300 baht for a ST session, or Adunyadet Soi 2 at 400 baht (for a farang) in Udon Thani are better value (for instance) and the girls here are usually younger and more attractive than in the brothels of Soi Sri Boon Ruang 2 in Nong Khai nowadays.

Dcpublius, I enjoyed your report about Nong Khai and Khon Kaen, but I must say you're a bit pickier than I. I think for the very picky man the Cleo Kareoke in Pullman hotel is really the place to go. I was in there the other night, and while it is true not every girl is a knockout, quite a few are, and the majority are really very lovely. The price there should be 2,000 baht short time, just like Violin.

Regarding your girl's refusal at Violin, I have noticed that the girls seem to be free to be barfined before 11:00 or 11:30 PM, but are not allowed to leave if they stay on later than that. In fact I've been in there at 3:30-4:00 in the morning, so it seems to be open very (even illegally) late, but the line-up which stays on very late seems to be 'trapped' or committed to staying all night.

Cleo on the other hand seems to close promptly at one AM and the girls are all simply available from 9:00 PM to 1:00. In any case I'll bet the girl you partied with in the kareoke room was available to you to take to your hotel at some time and under some circumstances, just not then and there.

Lastly regarding going early - its not always the case that this is beneficial. At brothel sois later is just as good as earlier (I usually go as late as 1-3 AM), and at the bus station no girl is there before nine PM, most not arriving till ten. At Cleos the prime time is 10:00 PM to say 11:30 PM. I would recommend getting out of your car on the brothel sois next time and strolling around.. though it is wise not to walk around the bus station scene.

It’s better to say that the taxi driver pulled me out with my baggage over the center fence of the road at top floor of Suvarnabhumi airport. When we arrived at Mochit Bus Terminal it was around 6.0 p.m. and the meter shows 270bht to pay (It was not express way and I choose the normal way). Opebo told me to find “Chang Tour”, they have specious bus and good service. When I asked the said tour service none of at the information desk got my spell. OK it’s my fault. I wrote on a piece of paper the “Chang Tour” oh yeah they got very straight it is “Chan Tower” some thing like that. Ok Ok I’l be able to find out the counter no.113.

The ladies in the counter was warm and seen very kind to me even I found very difficult to communicate with them with my English. I told the lady pls confirm my ticket on arriving at 8.0 a.m on the next day. It was 6.0 p.m. and I can’t make myself more stupid to arrive at Udon in the middle of night after traveling a long 8hrs. Since, it was my first visit for the place. Finally the lady confirmed my ticket and advises me to appear at 11.00 p.m. so she personally can escort me on board at terminal no. 19 & 21.

I can’t blame to anybody for my stupidity to choose bus service in place of air (while it was known that there were air service also available for Udon). I started strolling around the terminal to kill a long 5hrs. I know the expats like Opebo or others what supposed to do to kill the time. They will arrive any joint for hobbyist nearby the terminal and will be capable to arrive within the right time. Not only did you not take the flying option, usually for less than 2,000 one way, you also did not take the other option which was the overnight train. Here you take the train (which I think leaves BKK at about 8pm) ensuring that you get 1st class for about 1,300baht one way. This gives you a separate 2 bunk compartment - frequently you will have the compartment to yourself. You can also check out the bar on the train where you can smoke (windows are open) and drink large bottles of Singha for about 120baht a go. Bar usually closes at about 10.30pm. Train arrives in Udon Thani at about 7.30am or so, if memory serves me right.

I think 2nd class is much better value than 1st class too. Paid 490 bahts last time for fan sleeper in 2nd class from Udon to BKK which I booked the same day as departure. My advice: never ever book aircon sleeper, done it a few times in the past, feckin freezing.
I don't remember the price in 1st class but I'd rather fly to Udon than buy a 1st class ticket. With a few days advance, flight bookings are not necessarily more expensive than 1st class train tickets.

However I would like to dispute the notion that it is preferable to wait in the bus station for a bus that will arrive in the early morning. Far better to get on the bus immediately - even if you arrive in the middle of the night, a hotel room is only 300-400 baht and then you can sleep comfortably for a few hours before lunch. Completely agree. Especially for places like Udon where finding a cheap and decent hotel is not an issue at all, even in the middle of the night. I think this is true for almost all cities and towns in Thailand by the way.

My advices to Mua Tur were based on the idea that he was on a budget and didn't have time to make reservations ahead and wait in Bangkok. Chan Tour is the way to go to Udon in those circumstances.

From the bus stop The Tuk Tuk carried me to Top Mansion for 40 bht. And it was within few minuets. Later I realized within the action zone the standard tuk tuk price is this. But u can pull it down for 30bht if u r a bit bargainer. It was 9.30a.m and wow what a welcome scene was waiting for me. There were two guys with two ladies departing the hotel. May be they were traveling around with their car likely with a single lady and were leaving the other one. She was dark and quite stunning with a bit aged. After leaving the guys once I thought to call the lady and may offer her for the rest of the day. But the hotel was full house and there were no room to spare for me. Moreover the front desk is not sure after 12.00p.m. any availability is there or not.

What I’v to do now? Still I don’t hv any room and if the lady agreed with my offer I’v to carry two heavy baggages until my room to be booked. Since I’m first traveler and I can’t take any chances hunting around for room until 12.0p.m. with two baggage. So I’v to leave one and decided let the lady go.

Again Tuk Tuk and arrived at Ruy Suk Mension. Same story no room available but there are chances if I wait up to 12.00p.m. may be there are a room will be available for me. I decided to wait because it was been advised by Opebo and later it found very effective for my mongering aspects.

Finally I entered in my room after 12.00p.m in Ruy Suk Mension at Adunyaded rd for 350bht a night. Surprisingly I was not tired enough and decided to roam around in day time before the evening start. Arrived in reception and found Mr. Joe very supportive and don’t feel bother to serve info. He supplied a map and marked by a pen the action zone (for evening), Soi 2 and Soi 7. He informed now I’l not be able to find any luck and I’v to wait for couple of hours.

OK whatever it is, I need to see the zone(s) and will be happy enough to be more familiar with the places in day time.

finding soi fang dong is found difficult to other expats. so i deleted the street from my visit list. soi 7 is immediate after the ruy suk mansion. it’s a long diagonal road and i enter with expecting some sign should assure me about the action. but alas! i found completely deserted the place. no sign no indication no affirmation what it may offer. some aged guys sitting in plastic chairs and throwing weird looks to me, that’s all. no body interested to show anything why a farang walking all along the road and what he looks for.

ok let’s try for soi 2. joe told me u will not find any name plate but u will be able to find by pointing the food shops on entrance of the road. it’s also deserted right now. joe u r right, it’s too early for action. returned back to hotel, saying hello to other guys in lounge and ordered my lunch to joe’s kitchen. a lady came and kissed on the palm of a guy seated on the lounge, they talked and disappeared behind the bar. ok i can’t handle it, better try for a nap in my room, but failed to get in. on the stair case a guy with a lady landed from their motobyke. bang bang bang a big hit struck in my head, what the hell i’m doing here. left, right, ups and down everybody in their room with ladies and we know what they are doing behind the closed door. and what i’m doing here? hunting around road to road under the hot sun, for what?

before the evening i picked two more girls from the same street, using the same motobyke but never paid any for the transportation. but paid 500bht each time. there are some reasons to bringing girls in my room. first i didn’t like their hut and second i have the opportunity to wash the girl thoroughly. may be i can get girls less than i’v paid off, if i agreed to use their place. but i will loose the cleaning ness, what was important for me. ****d girl was never been listed in my fancy and the pimp several time insisted to pick one of them. i denied every time, who is going to do dirty business with the police!

I’v seen a debate on a comment of Opebo “Stick Pattay rather then Udon” for mongering. There were many comments on this issue from many members including Goyave. On my short visit my own conception has been grown about the city. I think relativity in Patt and Udon is not an issue at all. I do agree with some members that if somebody has something to do other than mongering in that region or passing that region may be Udon is the best place for the mongers.

Patt got a permanent existence as one of the top places for mongering in the world. Girls from different nationalities, arriving here for business. Moreover the place is nearer to BKK. Even as a holiday destination peoples from all sector can arrive here within 1.5hrs only.

On the other hand Udon is not a holiday destination at all. I think for the girls the city fully depends on trafficking from the neighboring countries. On my Udon tour I’v meet 5 girls. Two says they are from Laos, two no reply (does Viet?) one says she is half Thai half Lao. There are many reasons to believe that the supply of girls is completely seasonal. For this reason I found Soi 7 is completely empty. The volume of migration making a very good impact on Udon mongering scenes. All the girls are not for Brothels, some are eligible for bar scenes also. So I can say Udon is very much unpredictable regarding qualities, quantities and there prices. When the city got good supply the price goes down and we can get versatile qualities also, but it’s for a time being period only. Because of, may be it’s a backup training city for the larger market in Thailand.

It will be wise to visit the city for mongering after having invitation from some one residing in Udon, who is experiencing the season with full moon.

I don't think that there's a debate here and I don't really disagree with Opebo, as Udon Thani is certainly not a paradise for every monger.

Pattaya is the place to go if you are a newbie or if you want to get laid with minimum hassles at a reasonable price. The P4P scene is very accessible and the atmosphere is usually friendly and relaxed. Actually, it's so easy there that you don't have to fetch a provider, it's the providers who will hunt you (well, mostly). The difficult thing is to try to sleep alone when you stay in this town, even if you don't know shit about Thailand and Thai language.

Bangkok is another great destination for newbies and people who want to get laid easily. Prices are higher than in Pattaya on average and the whole town is not a giant wh0rehouse, but its red districts are well-known and very easy to find.

Other tourist destinations (Phuket, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, etc.) usually have a Farang-orientated P4P scene, more or less interesting, but where most girls can speak at least some basic English and are already accustomed to the foreigners' needs and requests.

In Udon Thani (and in the Isan region), the Farang-orientated P4P scene is not very interesting (IMHO). If you really want to enjoy the local scene, it's almost mandatory to speak some Thai language. And you have to know where the locals go, because for the most part, protitution is not visible here. Even the local freelancers usually dress themselves very conservatively (just like everybody else actually).

But the P4P girls available in Isan (especially in the local brothels) are usually younger and a lot more attractive (on average) than in Pattaya, Bangkok, and other tourist destinations. To find the same quality in looks elsewhere in Thailand, a foreigner has to pay a lot more money than in Isan.

Alas, most of the time, the quality of service is not on par with what is proposed in Pattaya (and other tourist destinations). The local girls are not very experienced, at least, they are usually not used to service foreign customers. More often than not, they won't allow anything else than a covered fuck, missionary style (even doggy or cow girl positions are not offered by certain providers). It requires some time and investigation to find a decent provider if you favor performance over looks, or some time and patience to teach and train a not very experienced local girl. Some of them are willing to learn and will try new things with a reasonable incentive.

That's why I believe that the Isan scene (especially in Udon Thani) is not that bad, but it is certainly not for every monger.

But living in Bangkok, it does little for me, as every time I am there I am constantly struck by the ratio of not in any way close to stunning girls to those who are, and always way to the negative. Pattaya may have cheaper prices, but that said, as someone who lives here and speaks decent Thai, I don't pay more than 1000 baht in Bangkok and have a very steady stream of excellent talent. Whereas for me, Udon is a breath of fresh air. The farang bars are not anything special, there aren't many girls, and not many stunners. But the Lao brothels are another story completely. Thanks to all who posted info about Udon. Just spent a couple of days there as a sidetrip via Air Asia. Mongering wasn't the primary purpose, but nights were pretty much free, so I did some research based on previous postings. Noted places on Adulayet sois 2 & 7 and Soi Sai Faw Deng were still operating...look for barely opened doors and pink lighting inside. Or people eager to show you inside. They were starting at B400 for farangs, but could be talked down to B300 in latter case. Selection sometimes limited; 5+ would be a lot, and 1 or none not uncommon.

Further up the scale, the Banyan on Adulayet soi 7 wants B800 ST for biked-in girls (probably Lao) at their taxi rooms, even if you show up on foot without a tuk-tuk. B100 for room, 700 for lady, they said. Nicer rooms and more farang-oriented, though still a bit downscale. Maybe Thai people or those speaking more Thai than I do can get cheaper price.

Day & Night plaza still fine for a drink, though it looked like there were as many punters as girls on the 2 nights I went. The better lookers also might have semi-regular customers.

To pick up a bit on what others are saying, I think Udon Thani has a real potential niche. Bangkok is already basically ruined on budget mongering. Pattaya pricing is better, but the place is turning into a real monster with traffic and development, and there's still lots of "dumb" money from first-timers putting pressure on pricing (not to mention the occasional Navy shore leave). Something like 1 in 3 people who come to Thailand visit Pattaya on their trip.

Udon offers elbow room, few tourists and a good climate for maybe 3-4 months a year that roughly coincides with high season elsewhere. Costs are lower and there's just enough to do to stave off the terminal boredom found in other burgs.

So I think there's a case to be made for it becoming an alternative seasonal or even year-round base for those in the know.

The prices are as Amjeck lists, though in (actually just off) Soi 2 there is a higher end house which is 600. Slightly better looking girls, and better rooms - many rooms even have air-con and I've been told a few have hot water. It always seems to have a lot of customers.

Thanks to all who posted info about Udon. Just spent a couple of days there as a sidetrip via Air Asia. Mongering wasn't the primary purpose, but nights were pretty much free, so I did some research based on previous postings...So I think there's a case to be made for it becoming an alternative seasonal or even year-round base for those in the know.Great report full of useful information. I made arrangements to meet a DIA lady in UT. She showed up a little late tonight with her girlfriend who drove her own car. Both ladies were attractive, personable, about 40 (24 years my junior) and apparently self sufficient women. They drove me to a local upscale Thai restaurant filled with locals and a 5 piece band. Total cost with drinks about 540 bhat or $17. Afterwards they drove me around a little and dropped me off at the Irish Clock. They're picking me up tomorrow at 10am to visit Nong Khai on the Mekong river. This was their idea and I like it a lot because I had read what a sweet little city NK is. We'll sightsee and have some food up there and return to UT in the afternoon or evening. The lady who owns the car seems more interested in me than my DIA correspondent. If she's the only one to show up tomorrow, I wont be surprised or disappointed.

After they dropped me off, I went across the street, paid a 300 bhat bar fine and had short time in my hotel with a nice little number for 700. I could get used to this routine. By the way, the city had a noticible military and police presence at certain points in the city in preparation for the Bangkok Court decision. Another report on tomorrow will follow.

The two ladies and a 9 yr. old son picked me up as promised promptly at 10am for our trip to Nong Khai. The vibe was nice...an adventure for the full day was in front of me. The kid was fun and we practiced English on the way up. Had a nice look around the river area in the market, ate a good lunch on a floating restaurant on the Mekong River, and generally had a very mellow pleasant time of it. Lots of picture taking. On the way home we stopped at a place where there were lots of old statues...quite large and elaborate. I forget the name of the place. Gas costs 500, lunch 700, incidentals about 300. Really no problem for me. Well worth the expense to not be wandering around UT on foot with no clue what to do with my time.

Got back to Irish Clock around 4:30 and begged off a group dinner that night. I was equally attracted to both ladies and wanted some one-on-one time with either one of them. How to do? They suggested we could tour the nearby world heritage archeological site on Sunday. They also offered to drive me to Nong Khai on Monday for my transfer to Laos.

Had a so-so oily massage after they left and before dinner near the Irish Clock. The lady was eager to provide bj, but I wanted to save my ammo for later in the evening. Let her practice a little on me and she gave an assisted shower afterwards...350 bhat. bbbj seem to be no problem in this area so far.

Finally texted my DIA friend that I would like to see her that night for dancing somewhere...one on one time. She showed up at my place on a moto with her "sister"...an elderly unattractive lady and my hopes for the evening vanished. We went to a bar, ordered small amount of food and some drinks. By now my mood was beginning to sour. My DIA friend disappeared to make a call for a good 5 to 10 minutes while I paid for the food and drinks. I got up and left for home. Ran into DIA lady on the way out and explained I wasn't feeling well...needed to sleep...and no touring tomorrow. Frankly I was feeling pissed. She seemed surprised but I didn't stick around to talk.

Went back to the Irish Clock...put in time on my pictures...sent an email to the DIA's friend that my short evening with her friend did not go well and I was available. (Didn't have her phone number) LOL The DIA gal showed up at my room but I ignored her repeated knocks. She later texted me I was a good man..she was sorry...can we talk. No thanks. I phoned another DIA contact to set up something for Sunday evening. I will keep trying as I like the chase and can always take a bar girl as plan B.

Went out and found a lovely 26 y.o. bar lady. 300 to the house and 1000 to her for short time in my room. Assisted shower again. Nice bj and sex with her lingering on watching music videos on tv. Thinking of taking her to Laos, but communication is not good in English.

My next DIA lady showed up at the Irish Clock promptly at 4 as promised. This is a woman I first texted a good 2 months ago. Her original reply to me was very articulate, expressing a desire to know more about me before meeting. Unfortunately, all the rest of her mails were this: Hello!! I Miiss you. I wait to meet you and i want to meet you so much I will together with you Take care.

I quickly tired of trying to communicate, but she would periodically resend her notes. I'd had the forsight to get her number because she had sent family photos that showed a beautiful 36 yo woman.

She arrived carrying her Thai/English dictionary, nicely dressed, and very attractive indeed. Conversation was extremely difficult and I found myself wondering how to extracate myself from the situation. As she drank her orange juice and I my coke, I slowly learned over the first 30 minutes that she had taken a bus 30 km into Udon Thani from her farm and then a short tuktuk ride to the hotel. I cheered up when she told me the last bus out was at 7pm...about 90 minutes away by now. Still time to line up other companionship. I also explained I was leaving in the morning for Vientiane. Found myself wondering why a "serious" woman would entertain a 2-3 hour meeting with a stranger when the stranger would be disappearing the next day.

Anyway, long story short, we went to my room and in a very slow way managed to work up some chemistry. She was willing, but not particularly experienced or proactive, so I took the lead. When we finished, we discovered blood on the sheets and she appologized repeatedly...her period had come earlier than expected. Indeed she showed me her white panties, which were spotless. We showered individually and I took her back to the bus depot with perfect timing for the last bus out of town for the night.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why a woman would entertain a liason like this. I didn't offer money and I'm quite sure it wasn't expected. See my Chiang Mai post about what happens when you offer money to a non-pro. I did slip her 100 bhat for the bus (30 each way plus tuktuk). The whole affair left me feeling a little empty. Not sure who to be most sad for. At 64 my passion for these encounters is waining.

I made this trip yesterday after doing research and wanted to share details for anyone considering this route. Take a tuktuk to the north bus station in UT where the buses depart to Nong Khai. There's more than one bus station in UT, so tell the tuktuk driver your final destination. I caught the bus as it was pulling out and they put my 20 kg suitcase in the luggage compartment below. I was the only caucasion guy on the bus and it turned out to not be an express. Cost 45 bhat (payable on board no problem) and took 54 minutes to the Nong Khai bus station. I was happy.

Here it gets tricky. You have to catch a tuktuk from the bus station to the Thai immigration station at the start of the bridge (100 bhat and definitely too much). Your driver will want to hand you off to another company that furnishes transport and your visa combined for $60 US. He undoubtedly gets a nice comission if he pulls this off. Even though I told him no, he stopped at a strip mall where this organization sets up camp. I just laughed when they quoted $60 for their services.

When your tuktuk drops you off at the bridge you walk about 200 feet in a pedestrian lane to the Thai immigration. Give them your passport and they'll remove your Thai entry form. Line took 3 minutes. After passing through Thai immigration you fill out two forms for Laos immigration, give them a passport photo, and pay $35 US. Newer bills prefered, but change is given back if you give them $40. (Ignore the taxi touts that you encounter even before Laos boarder control). Then 3-4 minutes to pass through passport control where the Laos stamp your passport. Next a 2 minute wait for a 20 bhat bus ride across the bridge. Baggage no problem. Upon arrival on the Laos side, you'll have to hire a tuktuk (I paid 200 bhat) for transport to your Vientiane hotel(unless you can figure out the bus situation which would take longer but be cheaper.) My tuktuk driver took on and dropped off 6 passangers along the way, so specify if you expect express service. My driver also couldn't find my Lao Orchid Hotel...even with a phone number and street address. We spent a lot of time asking directions...he was clueless. Total elapsed time 3 hr 20 minutes. Now in the hotel and very happy to be here. Looks like a sweet city.

The bus situation is very easy to figure out. Looking to your right when coming out of the Lao border checkpoint you can see 2-3 "minimarts"/noodle shops and in front of them a very recognizable bus stop. Never waited long for the bus. Fare is 20 bahts if I remember right and possibly much cheaper if you already have Lao kips.

Looks like a sweet city.

It used to be 600 baht, then 700 baht, and recently, a friend of mine who went there alone was quoted 800 baht (room included). But he was a new customer in this area, so, regular and long-time customers might pay a bit less there. I haven't been there for more than one year, because I favor other places in Udon Thani (cheaper brothels from Soi Fai Deng or Adunyadej Soi 2, for instance). Granted, the ST rooms are a lot nicer in this area, but (IMHO), that's all, as the quality of the providers (looks and service) is not much better on average than in the cheaper brothels.

I flew into Udon Thani on a small turbo prop plane operated by Nok Air. At the airport they bus you out to the plane in 9 passenger Toyota vans. It's the type of plane that seats 2 on one side and 1 on the other. They asked for a volunteer for the jump seat in the cockpit, but I was too slow to get my hand up. That would have been interesting to fly in the cockpit. Pilots seemed British or Aussies.

Checked into the Irish Clock and thought the set up looked OK. A lot of British congregate here. The place serves both English and Thai food and they do a booming dinner business. I tried a couple of Thai dishes and they were just OK. The clientel is 90% white foreign guys. I never saw a free lancer in the place during my 3 nights there. I certainly wouldn't consider it a pick up place and there are no bar girls to take out.

My room was on the first floor and there is no lift. They have 2 floors of accommodations above the bar. Was not noisy at night. Air con is fine, bed good. The owner showed me to my room and set up my computer connection on the spot which I appreciated. It turned out to be a poor internet connection. There were tiny ants all over my laptop after the first hour of use. I didn't notice any in the bed fortunately. They do have a good laundry service. The location is surrounded by bars with a lack of interesting talent. It certainly doesn't compare to the row of bars in Chiang Mai near the Raming Lodge. I did bring one lady home for st. Bar fine was 400 and her fee was 700. BBBJ no problem. Another night and bar it was 300 bar fine and 1000 short time.

I did pay a tuktuk to take me around to soi 2 and 7 late one night, but the area looked too sketchy for my tastes and I didn't stick around long. The girls looked young as well. One mammasan drug me into her shack and when someone closed the door behind us, I got way too nervous. LOL

By the way, total tab at Irish Clock including laundry was 2800 bhat. Cheaper than what I'm used to paying.

I had read that you needed your Laos visa prior to taking the bus from Udon Thani to Vientiane. If that's not necessary, then that would be the method of choice. I will take that bus from Vientiane back to Udon Thani today for sure.

French food is not cheaper than in Pattaya for example and I do not find it is worth the price charged. The "French-Vietnamese" baguette-sandwiches are great though...

I took the bus from the morning market in Vientiane to Udon Thani as others have recommended. People at the bus station were very helpful in pointing out the ticket office and I enjoyed chatting with some English students while waiting for my bus. It is now up to 90 bhat and worth every bhat. Great convienent way to get to Udon Thani. The bus is permanently marked on the side with the Udon Thani-Vientiane logo so it's easy to be sure you're getting on the right one. Of course they check your ticket etc before you board. Pretty stress free. By the way,, the seats are assigned, sono need to line up for a "good" seat in front. I think there are about 6 departures each day. I caught the 10:30 and it actually left on time.

I have never tried without a visa but have read everywhere that the bus would not wait long enough for you to get a visa on arrival. And indeed I found the visa on arrival process in Laos to be quite time consuming almost every time. When I took the int. bus from Vientiane to Udon, it never seemed to wait that long at the checkpoint. Furthermore, the lady who was selling the ticket in Vientiane asked me to show her my passport last time and I assumed this was to check that I had, indeed, a visa already. I can't remember if they had done this on previous trips.

I believe long time is available for 2000 bhat, as a lady agreed to that after some haggling at Club Anou. I do not know if a bar fine was involved there because I got irritated and didn't take her. See my report under Vientiane. I had short time out of the four story walk up club on the riverside...but did not mention it. ST was 1000 bhat. Freelancer place with no bar fine and perhaps the best sex of my one month trip so far. Perhaps will post under Vientiane. HOwever, the streets totally empty out at midnight. I don't remember any lady bar scene at all, as it's illegal for Laos and non Laos to have sex.

But some bars and clubs remain open well after midnight, some until late (club on roof of big hotel on the banks of the Mekhong for example). 1000 bahts LT no problem at all with freelancers.

When I plan to stay at a new place, I always try to figure out beforehand (by sending an e-mail, for instance), whether or not it is girl friendly.

But you probably can also book a room for two persons, and just mention one of those very common nicknames (Noy, Nok, Fon, Lek, Nid, etc.) if the name of your companion is requested! It should do the trick in Thailand, as almost nobody uses his or her real fullname in most cases of his or her everyday life!

I thought I'd post my impressions and observations of Udon Thani.

I arrived early in the week and booked a room at the Top Mansion hotel. It's very basic, but heck for the price, 370bhat, it is fine. After being in Bangkok, Udon is of course more laid-back but not nearly as expensive.

I find it very easy to get around. Most of the places I want to go are within walking distance but a tuk tuk ride comes in handy on the longer treks.

I found the Irish clock to be a good place to eat with good food, beer and service. After being there a couple of times I decided to try New York. Likewise, if you are an American they have a nice breakfast spread. Enjoyed hanging out there over a few beers.

First day or so the heat was what I expected. Weather took a nice turn and it was actually cool on Tuesday night. It has stayed comfortable Wednesday and Thursday.

Girls - Like I said it is more laid-back here. The day before I came to Udon, I'd been at one of the beer-bars in Bangkok.. I don't think I had taken my first drink of beer before one lady had unzipped my pants and asking me for a lady drink. The first bar I went to G-spot, I drank a beer and chatted-up a girl there and was never asked for a lady drink. I realize that isn't necessarily the norm as one of the other places I went too I was asked for a Lady drink by the time I drank half my beer. I enjoy the beer-bar scene, but decided to try the brothels.

Soi 7. What can I say, I didn't really feel welcome or comfortable. No one approached me and I didn't see anything I couldn't pass up.

There is a lot more than 3 or 4 brothels in this soi, and, yes, the current price is still 300 baht for a ST session (one shot or about 30-45 min.) with a cute Lao girl (500 baht for a longer session: 60-90 min. or two shots) on premises.

It is possible, at least for regular customers, to pick up girls from the Lao brothels in Udon Thani to do the deed at your hotel or own place if you live in the area. I've done that several times in the past and was charged 600-800 baht (depending on the place) for a two-hour session. Alas, these houses usually charge a lot more if you want to keep one of their girls with you overnight.

Yes, everything is pretty similar to what I wrote then. In Udon Thani, the less known brothel on Prajak road now opens later than in the past (better to check this place at around 10pm nowadays) and the girls available there are also less numerous and often less attractive on average than they used to be.

In the meanwhile, the quality has improved in the brothels located in Soi Fai Deng, and the prices are still the same (300 baht for a ST session on premises): it's the best value in Udon Thani in my humble opinion. I've seen more and more Farang customers in this area in the recent weeks.

Nong Khai brothels were great in the past, now most of them are not. This town is worth a visit only if you have to go there for some other reasons (tourism or visa run, for instance) than mongering. Fun can be had, but girls available in most of the Nong Khai brothels are older, less numerous and much less attractive than what was available there just two years ago.

Actually, we first found one of the girls who was looking for customers at the railway station, on the far left side of the first station platform. Then, we followed her to reach the road that is located on the other side of the railway tracks at about 50-70 meters north from the platform (we had to carefully walk over the tracks, but there was no traffic then). The brothel is just one of the first little "houses" on this road (looking at a map of Surin, I think that the name of this road is Thanon Damrong Rak).

I attached a map to this report, but the location of the brothel on it is very approximate. I would easily find it if I were back again physically in this area, but I am not 100% sure to place it correctly on a map several months later.

I have however been back to check on Udon Thani and as one might expect, like most good things, it is in thriving health due to the current situation of good government. The sois are as open and well supplied with girls. I also visited Khon Kaen recently over several days, where I had a fine service from an old favorite from the bus station streetwalkers and several soapy experiences.

This brothel is usually open in the afternoon. If it seems to be closed when you are in front of it, just check the place located at the Northwestern corner on the junction with Adunyadet soi 3 where the mamasan and papasan of this establishment are staying most of the time during daytime and one of them will then go and open the brothel's door for you.

I will check again this place in a couple of days, but if I am not mistaken, it's located correctly on the first attached map (nicerB1.jpg). If not, it's the second map (nicerB2.jpg) which is correct.

Honestly, I don't think that the ladies are more or less attractive in one particular location than in another. In the past, Soi 7 had the reputation to host the most beautiful girls working in the local brothels, but it has never been very obvious, at least, according to my own experience there. The rooms might be very different from place to place, though. But regarding the beauty of the providers, there's nothing granted and real gems may be found in the cheapest brothels. Actually, if we are speaking about the girls' looks, the quality is not bad at all in the brothels of Soi Fai Deng. The quality of the services rendered there is another story...

One ISG member asked me in a private message a question about the current situation in Udon Thani regarding the local brothels. I think that other ISG members might be interested by my answer.

I live in Udon Thani province, not in Udon Thani city, but I was in this town Monday, Tuesday and today (Friday).

On Monday, it was business as usual, but many brothels were already (apparently) closed on Tuesday. As a regular customer in most of them, I've been able to enter in one of the apparently closed establishment (the "mamasan" saw me and opened the door, which was locked, for me).

I visited Soi Fai Deng in Udon Thani earlier today (at 7pm approximately) and all the brothels of this area were open then. Moreover, it seems that the girls were also more numerous than in the past weeks.

I saw many girls (and several of them were long-time favorites of mine) that are now back to work here after having "disappeared" for a few weeks or months.

I've been told earlier that these girls were back in their home village or town in Laos, and even about one of my favorites that I've met again today (yes, I met her also in the "biblical sense"!), that she got recently married in Laos and would never come back here! Not sure how true it was then (I didn't ask the question to the girl herself, because if it's true, she might be embarrassed to explain why she has to work again in this brothel), but I was quite happy to see her again today. She has gained some weight in the meanwhile (about 4 extra kilos, I would say), her hair is a bit shorter and her skin color is a bit darker than in the past, but she's still cute and delivers an almost decent service, which is a bit of a rarity in the local brothels of Northeastern Thailand.

Last time I went there (a few weeks ago), regular Thai customers were still paying 300 baht in the brothels of Adunyadet Soi 2.

In Nong Khai, they now also try to charge their Farang customers 400 baht for a ST session in the cheapest brothels, but 300 baht is the regular price. Ok, it's just a one hundred baht difference, but there is no reason to overpay (the working girls won't get more money anyway) and it's better to give a tip directly to the providers themselves (who deserve it).

By the way, at least for me, the quality is not great nowadays in the cheap brothels of Nong Khai. But Soi Fai Deng in Udon Thani rocks!

3 golf courses.
Sri Thani - 9 hole, decent condition/challenge...only negative is that the
greens are slow.
Wing 23 - 9 hole course, fair conditions...greens are bad.
18KM - 9 hole course, challenging w/ multiple shot making
required...negatives as usual in Issan gold, greens aren't the greatest.
* Army course just went thru a rehab, so expect it'll be open in a few
weeks.
** 18 holes (two time around) w/ caddie runs 300 baht during the week.
Horse Racing on Saturday, 10 races (crooked as hell, but entertaining). First
race starts at 1230 and the last race starts at 5 PM.
Food.
Irish Cock, good farang and Thai food....little pricey.
Oshii Rest, both buffet and regular.
McD, KFC and Pizza Company. Would be nice if we had a SubWay.
Multiple Thai Rest with good/cheap Thai food.

Nightlife.
Day and Nite, worth visiting (once). Though you may get lucky.

There used to be a "Soi Farang" in the past, an area with small bars (now, it's a parking lot and the bars were demolished more than one year ago) that was located opposite to Central Plaza (formerly known as Charoensri Complex), but actually, Mosquito2002 is probably speaking about "Soi Fai Deng".

Soi Samphan Thamit (the small street where the Irish Pub is located) is now sometimes referred as the new "Soi Farang", because one can find several bars that caters to many (mostly?) expatriates in this area.

I clearly saw an elderly Thai gentleman paying only 300 baht in the first (when coming from Adunyadet main road) brothel on the right (the one with a sliding door) in Adunyadet Soi 2. That's also the price that the working girls told me (although, not recently) that the Thai customers pay in several other brothels of this Soi.

I guess that your Thai friends did not know the regular price and asked how much it is in the selected brothel. That's probably why they were charged more. Moreover, I suppose that if they speak "central Thai" and not the Isan dialect, it's another clue for the local mamasans and papasans to charge them more than the regular price.

In my humble opinion, the service is not much different in the various local brothels in Udon Thani. You're right: you often have to visit several places (or try several girls in one brothel) before finding a girl who provides a decent service, but it's true in every red district area in Northeastern Thailand that caters mostly to locals, I suppose.

Yes, for daytime activities there are three 'Soapies' - Kosa Hotel (1100/1700/2000/2200, with good quality at higher prices), Ceasar's Massage (1100/1500/1700, sometimes with good quality), and Villa Massage (near Roma Hotel, 1000/1300, lower quality, much better service).

I have no idea if the small brothels which masquerade as kareokes on the small brothel soi are open during the day, but I suppose they might be partially open in very late afternoon. Day is not a normal time for nightlife activities in Isaan.

Tried this 'infamous' massage next to Pathumrat Hotel. Had a history of entertaining Pol Pot's generals as well as the USAF from the 70s on. Was a fishbowl about 3pm with 6 ladies. Over the last few months I've been getting consistently great service from many different girls at Villa Massage, and the typical rule-bound but otherwise good service at Kosa Massage. It does help a lot to ask the men working at Villa which girls are 'good service' girls.

At Ceasar however I have noticed some unpleasant developments - the staff seemed pushy the last couple of times I visited. Actually, the regular price for Farangs is still 400 bahts for a ST session there (it used to be even cheaper in the past), but the person in charge will try to charge you more than that, especially if you are a new customer (it's, alas, a common practice nowadays in the red districts of Udon Thani and Nong Khai).

Just smile, stay polite, and explain that you know that the regular price is 400 bahts (here) for Farangs (you can trust me on this one, I live in the Udon Thani province most of the year and regularly visit the local brothels since year 2002). You shouldn't have to haggle a long time as the mamasan or papasan would usually agree on this price once you've told them.

I haven't visited this soi recently myself (I favor the cheapest brothels as the quality of the providers is not much different in my humble opinion), but your price range is probably correct: one of my friends paid 800 baht (room included) in another brothel of this soi a few months ago, but he had been slightly overcharged as a newbie there, I suppose.

I've never been able to find any actual houses on Soi 7 since the crackdown a few years back. For several years all my friends and I could find on Soi 7 was the option of going to the short-time bungaloes and having them bring a very small selection of girls - usually only one girl for each man - for us to take or not take. The girls have continued to be well above average here, but at 700 plus 130 for the crappy room, it is way too expensive for what you get (typical poor service).

Have the old houses re-opened on Soi 7? Are they especially hidden? When we drove up and down the soi last night we only saw a few touts inviting us to the bungaloes, no houses.

To Goyave - we finally located your hidden house on the side soi. We were also quoted 500 baht but there was nothing worth taking so we left without bargaining. Seems like the quality is pretty low lately, though the numbers are reasonably high.

My last 3-4 sessions in Udon have been such terrible service I'm beginning to despair of the place. For sure there is no friendliness or enthusiasm, and everything is very plastic. On the last visit I was actually asked 1,000 baht for what they claimed was a 'special' girl at the expensive (600 baht) house just off Soi 2. My picky Thai friend used to always get these 'special' girls for 800 baht at this house, but they wouldn't budge from 1,000. Anyway it was a total waste as service was abominable.

You think that the service is poor for Thais as well? I'm curious if it's because the girl sees a farang and in her head she is saying: "i don't want to go with this foreign guy". So maybe she is setting herself up for disaster from the get go.

I've found that service is usually poor also, but if I speak thai, or I take the girl a second time she usually performs better.

Well, sure, most of them dislike foreigners more than they dislike Thais, but I think the standard of service is just very low, kind of 'just lie there', and in general most girls are very condom insistent. Of course most Thais don't need very good service to enjoy themselves, and focus mainly on appearance.

Ruysuk Mansion is very near Adunyadet Soi 7, opposite Soi 6, and is indeed a cheap accommodation in this area. I haven't stayed here myself yet, but I know that several other ISG members frequent this place and are apparently quite satisfied with it.No Suksun Mansion.

Just down the road on soi 5 about 2 min by foot to ruysukguesthouse and the room's are so much beter way nicer.

If you can read thai you will see the sign on adulyadet Road same side that the bookhouse is on.

It seems that after couple of months Soi 7 has been imprved. Couple of months before I'v also visited posibl all sub-sois; but none was offered anything to me. Personaly couple of times I'v entered in shitty huts by revealing plastic rappers but unfortunately I failed to find any hidden house there.

If you enter from the sourth of soi 7 go up about 3 to 4 soi on the left side they is a houses with about 10 girls in ther all about 18y to 22y I think.

You pick one and pay 500 they will take you and the lady to your room by motmrbike.

You may see man on right hand side of Road he will take you to see them

It have a gate that is coverd up of dry grass near the hotel on one of them left side st about 20mt down Road.

The one I did see still not have baby yet so did have a hot body 10/10.

On Friday night I drove into Khon Kaen just at midnight, just missing the Soapies - why must they close so early? Really you don't have much chance at them even an hour before their midnight closing time. The parking lot attendant at one offered me girls, but I felt discouraged and went away. Next I called a regular I met through the bus station scene, but the phone was kaput, so I went to cruise round the station.

Alas I found only about three girls around the bus station, and none at all attractive - it was such a marked change that I have to guess there has been some sort of crackdown. On previous visits I had seen at least a dozen girls and most of them very cute, though a little rough for the most part.

So, lacking any other option for anything like a reasonable price, I had to go to the soi of small brothels. I've visited this soi many times but only rarely taken, as the attitude is so unfriendly there - downright hostile. On this visit I noticed that all the houses (maybe around 6-8 houses altogether) were well staffed, with the two or three big ones having 10-12 girls, and the rest around 4-5 girls each. Many girls were quite good looking, and not old, most being about 18-25. I had a bad feeling about service, but tried one that was at least very cute and smiled (most look at a farang with dread, no smile).

Well as it turned out it was a satisfactory experience, and though low-service and a starfish, she gave me what I wanted and I was able to finish. Very nice body too - one of those Isaan/Lao types where you think the tits can't be real, they're so firm and perfect and upstanding (though not large).

The only disconcerting thing about the encounter was one of the pimp boys teased her a lot on our way to the room, and later banged on the door when she nipped back in after her little wash in the shared restroom - he was just kidding around with her, but it was pretty unprofessional. These places are like that - surprisingly cute Thai girls on offer, but way less professional and less welcoming or comfortable for the customer than the Lao staffed placed in Udon.

Total cost 600 baht plus a 200 baht tip for as-you-like-it.

Just wanted to report that when strolling I came upon around 4-5 (at least) brothels that I had never seen before, and they looked roughly the same quality level as the main well known brothel soi. I'd have to say the placed seemed a lot friendlier, though the girls were certainly no better looking and just a little older (late 20s instead of early). They quoted me 1,000 for 'massage and boom boom', to which I just walked away, and they called after me 'ok 800'. Who knows what the real price is, but anyway its there and I hope someone tries it.

These brothels are located on a soi which leads over to the Kosa/Pullman area, from Rad Nightclub. The best way I can describe it is to go to Rad, and then accross the road from Rad you will see a smallish soi. Go up this soi and you will see some brothels. If you are walking from for example Didine Restaurant or Violin Kareoke towards Rad, the soi in question will be on the left.

That visit I stopped by Kosa Soapy, where I usually don't have much luck, and chose a very good looking tall slim 23 year old for 2,000. And got what I wanted, amazingly enough (a great rarity as Kosa) - though only after going to immense amounts of trouble (seducation, titillation, argumentation, etc. - it was like a date). Plus a tip of 500 was demanded for that service. While overpriced, the girl was very very nice looking, and the sex very good and impassioned.

Found myself with time to kill in Nong Khai recently. Decided to head down to Soi Sri Boon Ruang to see if anything was happening at the brothel there. I never had success there before. Either the place was closed or I was ignored. THe problem is that I don't speak much Thai.

I was in Undon Thani for 1 night 2 weeks ago. It's cheaper to go Vientiane via Undon Thani on Air Asia.

Stayed at Top Mansion. Overall not bad for 370 Baht. Need to pay for internet (50 for 1 hour; 100 for day). Good location. But one of the staff pissed me off. Was shown a room on second floor. It was OK. She then gave me a key for the 4th floor; she said all the rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor was taked/reserved. After I went to my room, I realized the bed was older. I could feel more of the springs, and the bed was sagging in the middle. I was tired and it was only for 1 night, so I stayed (I was irked, but I got more pissed off later that night when my ribs felt the metal springs). Somewhat of a bait and switch. It seems they put the newer beds on the lower floors. They have no elevators, so people reserved/get the rooms on the lower floors.

Now what really pissed me off was that clerk brought up the subject of airport transport. I said I would probably take the tuk-tuk to the airport. She then asked me if I knew how much it was. I said 80 baht (that's what the internet said). Shen then said: no no, that is way too low. If you negotiate, you can get it for 150. But only if you negotiate well. Shen then said the meter taxi is a flat 200 baht fare. I got the tuk-tuk in the morning for 80 baht. Not sure if she was that ignorant, or if she was a lying ***** trying to get a commission or work for her tuk-tuk friend. That was just a rhetorical question.

If you can't handle people trying to rip you off, then you probably shoudn't travel (especially in the third world). I would come back to the Top Mansion only if I get a room on the second floor with a decent bed. Location is good.

Nightlife:

The hotel is on a short street that has T intersections with major streets on both sides. The Central Shopping Mall is near by.

As you step out of the hotel, turn left and go to the end. Turn right, and few hundred meters? later you get to Soi 2. You turn right to Soi 2. What I expected. No A/C dirty room brothels. Talent was mostly marginal. There were 2 that were surprising cute. But of course they looked "around" 18. Next year or so, they are definitely worth 3200 baht in a Bangkok go-go bar (700 bar fine plus ST 2500 tip).

I traveled further to find Soi 7, but I couldn't find it. But didn't try too hard.

As you step out of the hotel, turn right and you will find the Day and Night open air bar complex on the same street. Not that crowded; some of the bars were closed.

Then continue to the T intersection and turn left. You see several bars. As you continue, you then see the Nutty open air bar complex.

Didn't confirm the prices in these places. Didn't partake; I don't like shack brothels and open air bars (unless I'm desperate).
