Odds have improved that I may make the December meeting, though I should know more in the next couple of days. I hope you didn't forget about the frequent flyer pass... It has paid off well for me. Every third flight or so is business class from the mileage earned, pretty comfty and at no extra charge, hell, they even give you the miles for the leg in business and a swell stay in the BKK BusinessClassLounge!
In March you can just go to Pattaya and get a room almost anywhere, but for your peace of mind it may be better to book a couple of nights in advance.

Najene -- the "trouble" your person refers to is basically a generic warning from several governments that Phuket or Bangkok could be terrorist targets at some point in the future. Nothing at all definite or even remotely specific, and the government here is all up in arms over this being said in fear it will hurt tourism. (At this point, though, there's been a net influx -- some people have canceled but far more have changed their plans from Bali to here.) Practically speaking, clearly if you're going after tourists in Bali you could do the same in LOS, and there is a Muslim population in Thailand, chiefly in the south, but they're not particularly known for their fanaticism, unlike those in Indonesia.
You can find trouble anywhere and trouble can also find you -- I'd not worry unnecessarily about it in Thailand if I were you. Sure, it's near a danger point, but where isn't? I'm certainly not losing any sleep over it while I'm here.
Leaving Taipei in a few hours for Bangkok, see everyone on friday at the living room at 7.

It is not a good idea even if the rules of the site let you take a group picture to post it on a public board like this. To many groups in countries like the United States that want to cause trouble for the readers and users of these boards. You need to remember that even if you have not done anything wrong, local law enforcement can bring a case against you and or have you flagged on your return home. Why do any of US want to spend thousands of dollars in legal fees just to prove we didn't do anything wrong? Quick report for the people that all not in Thailand right now. The amount of people in Bangkok at Nana and Soi Cowboy are down alot, there are more people here during the off season, compared to now! There is a alot of people still in Pattaya when I was there for business, but I do not like Pattaya. Tomorrow will be a Patpong day. I will give a full report after I return to the U.S., no time to write a story no, there are too many places to go and to many girls to see!

gotta admit, we had fun thinking of all you guys toasting and thinking about being here. attendence was myself, z, jimhart, tonytony and 1ball, and later jim's assorted newbies. it's late now, so i'm not going to give a detailed report as opposed to a fairly short one, other than to say that sorry, no pics, as none of us may be running for president but we also don't feel like running from pictures at some point in the future either. z is every bit the same in person as he is online -- an absolute cartoon character hopped up in a video game. an interesting bunch of guys, and a good non-agenda.
we met at the living room, sans stickman or any thundering hordes, met up later with jim's newbies who he repeatedly feared for, went to nana and into playskool, where we promptly lost jim and the newbies once the rest of us adjourned (fairly quickly) upstairs to angel witch. i think all of us agreed this was a general step up, especially with the girls in the oil and soap shows, a couple of whom were quite striking. we stayed for a bit, then headed to cowboy, where we collectively decided that long gun was ridiculously busy (sad for me as i was hoping to find those sisters i'd passed on before, but ah, there's always next time) and we wandered on to z's suggestion, baccara, where the girls upstairs dance on a clear floor sans underwear. i had a nice chat and grab with a cute little twenty-year-old but said no way to a 600baht bar fine and 1500 for short time (especially since she said no smoke, no anal, no anything other than straight boom boom ands how could i think otherwise for that kind of money. she said the girls on stage were 3000b short time, which was hilarious.) at this point, 1ball took off for his prearranged date, tonytony took off for i'm not sure where, and z and i wandered to b52 to shoot the breeze for a while. i'll not reveal much of that, other than to say that we generally agreed about the rest of you not there :d dodged a slew of elephants being brought into the bars, and parted agreeing to stay directly in each other's face as always. altogether a thoroughly over the top character, but beers were exchanged, no punches were thrown, and when i left him, z was preparing for a trek to the bus station for a 2am trip back to korat, as we'd all managed to mostly [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) the night away, certainly to the point that z's beloved soapies were out of the question. me, wandered briefly and then i promptly lost a bet to a cutie at [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900), (#10) who wagered 600baht that she could make me cum before the bar closed at 1pm. sad to say i had to pay up...
i trust the rest of you guys will fill in, but i thought i'd drop something in before heading to crash, since i'm still feeling all he drinking despite the fact i was pretty good with my spacers, so here is an initial slapdash report.
with my party in mid march...we won't be checking out gogo's all night long.
i'm getting a 2 bedroom suite with a nice big living room in the middle...I wanna see how many TG's and WSG members can fit in that suite....Z, u can bring the gamecube with extra controllers cause i would rock ur punk ass in 007..

tap, the dome ends up being a great source of play or conversation, where i try to borrow their hair to cover it, or suggest it would be a good look for them. z's description of what when on is a good example. ya use what ya got, you know? (or in this case, what you don't!)

How do u guys look at ur significant other when u go back to them after these trips? Is it awkward???

BTW, Nightfire isn't as depending on skilz as CS? It's not as precise or fast? I'm still a CS fan, if you guys go to one of the many Game centers like in MBK I'll join in and we can have a lan game(unless we all bring our laptops, which I doubt..).

I can't comment on the "married" side, but girlfriends come in varying degrees. My current Thai girlfriend has given me "advanced forgiveness" for any mis steps I take. Poor dear girl. On my last trip to the LOS she said "don't drink too much" and I said "OK, I won't". Then she added "and don't fool around" to which I said "OK, I won't drink too much". The following silence was deafening, but she's never mentioned it again and she's still jumping me at every opportunity ! We'll talk more tomorrow.
Just so you guys don't think you've got the market cornered on gatherings, a few your fellow WSG posters are heading for Tijuana tomorrow. We'll try to make you proud !

I am married, and I go to Thailand alone at least once a year. Admittedly, my wife hates it, and I have to live with the occasional allusion or snide remark, but I do it, and that is what matters.
I do not cheat and I do not lie. What I do in Thailand is my own business, and it is not mentioned at home. No questions asked, no stories told, no photos displayed.
I find it a tad more embarassing to tell my colleagues and neighbours that I go to Thailand alone than I have to deal with my wife about it.
If your "significant other" cannot accept that it is important to you and that you are entitled to your own time, then she is not worth being with you in the first place.
I would suggest to all those married/with permanent GF who would want to go to Thailand alone but do not dare to consider just doing it. Admittedly there is a risk of a nasty divorce etc. and all situations are different, but after all, you get into a marriage for a very long time indeed. Both spouses need to have their own area of freedom if they want to be able to make it in the end.
If you can persuade your wife that her marriage is not at risk, once she gets over the pride issue, she might be ok enough with it not to feed your dick to the ducks, or whatever your local customs expect women to do to unfaithful husbands...

if the wife wants to divorce you, then it is not necessarily a bad thing either, provided the issue remains manageable, mainly financially. Also vacationing alone, even to Thailand, might not be sufficient grounds to file for a nasty divorce in many countries.
As I said, each case is different. You might have to bargain with the wife (there might be something she'd like to do, and you stand in the way, for example).
But you are safe: you are single. Keep it that way.

Private Dancer is a really good read that gives an interesting view of the life of a working girl. When in Thailand it is almost scary how some of the parts of the book seems to happen oneself as one is chasing the pun at Nana. It is a read that I would recommend to anyone travelling to LOS for the "hobby".
I have to admit some confusion about why adleZ is being monitored. Whether he knows anything about Thailand, or not, he contributes regularly and honestly, and is much less offensive than, say.....ME!
He does incite riots sometimes, but it seems kinda personal between Jackson and The Man from Khorat.
Hasn't been much who/what/where here lately; I suppose Jackson COULD be getting frustrated...

Adelz essentially posts the same message over and over, which may be summarized as follows: "I don't like to compete with the guys who are nice to the women, so I want to convince everyone to treat them as poorly as I do."
I put him on the watch list because his messages are largely repetitive, generally degrading towards women, and only ocassionally contain factual information of substantive value to fellow travelers.
On those ocassions when his posts contain some real information such as locations, prices, etc. then they will be forwarded to the Forum. There's no frustration, I just don't need somebody using bandwidth trumpeting the same self-serving message.

It is really a very simple deal. This board like all boards is controlled by the moderators. Some of the posters may start to believe that it is their board but all of us are only-guest on the boards. The rules are set and we have two choices; follow the rules or leave the board. So why don’t we all just let Jackson run his board and get back to what we do have some control over, posting really helpful information post? These back and forward personal posts don't help the board as a hole and just set things up to be a problem.

Why do you have to pay a bf if you can get this TG at outside of the bars. As long as it is ST what is the problem. As long as you get her, f her and send her away what is the risk?
IMHO bf seems to be the greatest ripoffs to me.

duniawala -- A very good question, and here would be my answer. If I pay a barfine I'm essentially paying insurance against rip-off or mischief. If I'm with a freelancer something can be slipped into my drink, my money or things can disappear, etc., and I've no reason to think that I'll ever see the woman again. In contrast, a bar fine means she is known, has a regular place and job, and that I therefore have recourse available, either via the bar itself or via the police. Most of the stories you read here regarding guys being ripped off or drugged are with freelancers -- and let me be clear that I've no absolute rule either way, and I've nothing against freelancers, but I wouldn't say that barfine serves no purpose whatsoever.

Regardless of whether Z is or is not retiring (and I sincerely hope he is not):
I'd simply like to say that IMHO far more than repetitive postings, which are simple enough to ignore, the kinds of personal attacks that have been on the rise in this whole section are a far greater problem. There's simply no reason for it, and they take up far more time and do far more damage than any of Z's rants and I don't think Z's been particularly flagrant about being repetitive of late (well, except perhaps for his Pattaya opinions.) Those kinds of postings result in pages of useless posts, they get people pissed off and leaving or changing their posting behavior, etc.
Jackson, I'd personally far rather see you filter some of that stuff out, and trap the responses of people who most often take whacks at other people, as that would improve the information flow on the board (and I know you do some of this, and it is appreciated.) Having met Z in person I don't believe he's at all a misogynist -- something I did think from his early postings, but believe he has made clear is not at all the case through his later postings. His persona on this board is basically that of a video game character, and his biggest flaw is hyperbole and repetition. (Z, perhaps a Disney character would work better, though please stay away from "Grumpy" ok?) I must confess I'm baffled as to why he would be being filtered at this late point, when he's probably undergone the most consistently varied posting period since he's been on the board.
I completely acknowledge that I lack the information you have of what postings are not being allowed though, and I think you've demonstrated an ably adept hand at keeping things moving here, and above all it's obviously your board to do with as you see fit, and I do appreciate the tremendous amount of work and resources you pour into this site. But from what I've seen, Z has been in the midst of the most prolonged period of solid contributing he's had in a long time, so it's hard to understand why things have needed to come to where they have.

transfer to the branch in Thailand so the money I deposit can be converted to Baht, since that Baht rate is so high now?

LittleBigMan -- I'm not terribly clear on why you want to do that. Any money that gets deposited is available to you via ATM at the current exchange rate, which is simpler than what you propose. So any money from your current bank can be withdrawn in Pattaya or Bangkok in baht already. For what it's worth, the baht is right about where it's been the past few years in terms of exchange rate. In fact, it's slightly lower than in 2000-2001.
Here's hoping Link's more gossamer tongue can keep him out of trouble.

it is with alot of anger. And I support your right not to be censor!
I'm not going to tell you my life story except to clarify that I'm not a busboy and yes I have traveled before including spending 1 to 2 months in Thailand 2 to 3 times a year since 1995. But I don't claim to know as much about Thailand as you do. Since my goal when I visit is different than your's!
I have been blessed with some money from my family and lucky for me they knew I would need it, since I have taken a bad road in life. This time after getting out of jail I decide I needed to change my life and decided to maybe buy a Condo in Thailand and spent more of my time there instead of home in the U.S.
which I can't seem to stay out of trouble. For me, I just don't
what to die in jail with a shank in my back.
I getting too old and tired to have to deal with this shit and just want to relax and enjoy what's left!

Z, though I completely understand where you're coming from, I'm also still on the other side of the fence from you, as we've volleyed about in the past. Since you live here and want to keep your life simple, your approach works for you, and that's fine.
But I totally disagree with you that sex is always just sex and only a physical release. (Maybe it is for you, and if that's the case, then I do regret your loss, whether you want to hear it or not.) That's like saying there's no difference between a dinner in a five-star restaurant and eating at McDonalds, since both get your belly full. Well, yeah, that's true, but that's far from all there is to the experience.
I think mrice's depiction of things of at times as "bittersweet" is dead solid perfect. Spending a couple of days and nights with a sweet young woman who's out making a living using herself because that's what she's got, but doing so with some degree of flair and care, and then knowing you're not going to see her again can most decidedly be bittersweet. For some of us who are not living here, the prospect of finding a temporary girlfriend for hire is a very attractive prospect. (You're certainly not going to find that option elsewhere in Thai society other than with sex workers.) It's when people go over the line and forget that you usually don't pick girlfriends out of lineups or off gogo stages, or settle first on the price and bar fine before settling on whether or not you'll have a date that people are seriously criusing for an emotional bruising.

What happens to the new guys or guys starving for affection is that they are surprised at how sweet some of the Thai hookers are compared to American women. This and good sex makes them forget they are fucking a hooker and the prospects of having a "relationship" are not good for many reasons...

Z you are not jaded, this topic of getting emotional about Thai girls is what is jaded. You see Z is dispensing advice based on wisdom, or as much wisdom as is possible when advising many people of different ages and backgrounds, and most of whom one doesn't know!

I think anybody can get attached or emotionally involved with a Thai hooker... it could happen to any guy irregarless of IQ or social status... A guy starving for affection/attention and not getting laid much in his western country could get easily attached to a Thai girl... Thai hookers have the best approach for an escape from the "real" world, they offer cheap and for the most part good sex....
.... I remember on my first trip to Thailand I felt like a kid in a candy store but did not loose my head or had any expectations of making the experience beyond of what it was... It is an escape, sex with hookers is an escape and not to be confused with a relationship or emotional attachment.... Some guys may feel sorry for some of these girls because they are sweet and their approach is unlike hookers in western countries.... but feeling sorry for some woman is not a good reason for falling in love.... or even starting a "real" relationship.
Most guys here know that regular women come with their "issues" that you have to deal with in a relationship. Now, a Thai hooker is no different but their "issues" are far more complicated (amplified by one thousand) and many of these girls are damaged for life.
Also, the smart hookers know what western guys want and need, they know these guys (especially the new ones) are in awe at the scene and they take advantage of this. They know some of these guys are lonely and need good attention..... Also, some Thai hookers are fun to hang out with, the smart ones can be good company outside the bed but don't mistake this with emotional attachment or love..... These girls know what they are doing and they will capitalize on a guy's soft heart or sympathy for their situation.... but, they are doing a job, they know how to do it very well even though some are really "nice" and personable....
You can make a love to a woman or you can just fuck her. The same goes for women with men. Knowing the difference is the most important thing for a new guy to know going to Thailand... Thai hookers know this difference very well. They are working and work for them is to please, be friendly and hopefully find a guy who will be a regular customer. Small world! Pretty sure I took Aon ST with another girl at Fantasia for a double dip back in Oct. She is has some chinese features, right, ? Also took out a Khmer girl from there and, my favorite by far, the door girl. Fantasia is small but full of good choices.
But back to Thai women and culture, the last thing I'll say is if someone wants to connect with a Thai girl on an emotional level, be a man and do it the old fashioned way, not the "oldest" way. Go outside the Sukhumvit sex strip and meet youself a regular girl. I've gone out with three regular Thai girls and two became girlfriends. They were good experiences but it took alot of time and effort, as should be perhaps. But this also was a "reality" check in that I saw there was nothing ultimately superb about these ladies in any way compared to ladies of other cultures.
