I arrived two days ago. It seemed mostly navy that was here. I was told they would be leaving today. A GoGo girl I just sent out the door said they were leaving today. Her bar has been opening at 2 PM instead of 7 PM because of the extra business (she has been doing 12 hour shifts). But today her bar goes back to normal hours.
I didn't notice much difference the first night I was here. Just lots more Americans around. Last night, I presume there last night here, they where bar fining the girls out of the GoGos early. I saw several go out the door during happy hour at Happy A GoGo. I usually don't notice many girls leaving that early.

So I will in Thailand landing April 30 and would like to give the masses of Navy guys their space - but I am confused -
have they left or are more coming or do we not know? I am wondering if I should spend say 4-5 days in Bangkok and then hit Pattaya or is another ship coming...

Please someone buy a soldier a beer and ask how long the exercises will last.
We need a report as best I can tell there are a bunch of us who want to come down but don't want all the extra attention of 5,000 plus horny guys around.
If I were there I would take care of this and get some accurate info.
I'm in Pattaya now and can confirm that the 5000 or so navy personell who had been given a 5 day leave in Thailand are now safely aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln & heading for waters new!
However, the girls seem to be tired out & have bulging pockets so it's not all good news I'm afraid. The gogos on walking st were quite empty last night but I hear there are more girls expected back from their Songkram holidays in Isaan any day now.
PM me if anyone fancies a beer or 3.
There was an aircraft carrier and several small ships visiting for normal port visit whic is now over.
Cobra Gold has begun, but the largest numbers won't arrive until mid May. Small advance parties will be seen and then the training begins. Once the exercise is over it is usual for some time off. That is when the 1000+ numbers will be around for a few days. Then they will go back to Japan and elsewhere and small numbers will redeploy equip etc.
So, about the second week in May to the end of the month could be the busiest.

I am in Pattaya now. I really don't think you have nothing to worry about. There is still many girls here in town. I don't think it is nothing like in January when it is really crowded. Be sure to see the shows at Angel Witch when you are in town. I do believe it has the best shows in town. We all know that changes every 6 months with new clubs. Come and enjoy the fun.

There has long been military codes of conduct that p4p violate.

First off, what's with all the babbling? KEEP ON TRACK! Women, sex, and where we can find it! (And stories from our adventures of course!) Quit whining about the ships, sailors, and marines. Good grief. If you can’t pay a woman (even an ATTRACTIVE woman) to have sex with you in Pattaya even when the carrier group is in port, you have issues. Even with the ships there, the women outnumbered the guys 3 to 1 and I went home with a different beautiful woman each of the 7 nights by 10pm without any trouble finding her.
With that said, I'm in the Navy, 28, and spent April 20-27th in Pattaya on leave from my ship. It was AWESOME and I found a ton of cool places and was well prepared for the adventure in large part to you guys and your insightful posts!
I stayed at the Royal TWINS palace hotel (not to be confused with the Royal Palace hotel). When I checked out it ended up being about $40 a night (including phone calls and mini-bar usage). I stayed in a Deluxe room which was physically large, but probably took longer to cool b/c the key card controls the electricity and also shuts off the A/C when you leave and take the key. (so a smaller room would have been fine). It had a medium-small fridge and that's it for room amenities. The pool is large and great for swimming or laying out to tan, but nothing to look at b/c only guests are allowed at the pool (so it’s 90% guys).
I went to the Sabai massage parlor and had a sweet soapy massage for 1,800 Baht. There were a ton of girls to choose from and it took me 1 drink and about 15 minutes of ogling the women to choose. I was torn in between 2 girls, but I know that one woman can take good care of me and 2 would be a waste. Best save her for next time to fully enjoy her services.
Also went to “The Pump Station”. Interesting little place. Early in the day the girls are hanging out on the sidewalk in front of the shop, you just walk up, pick your girl and she takes you upstairs. You can sit at the bar on a tall stool and she blows you under the bar while you watch porn on the tv, or you can sit on the couch while she services you. I went twice so I had it both ways. 375 Baht for the bar fee and 300 Baht tip for the girl. A BJ for under $20. Works for me! A nice way to start your day.
Club Boeshe. WOW. No, WOW!! Girls dancing topless, some bottomless on the stage, full nude upstairs on the glass ceiling/floor stage (which you can watch from downstairs), and then the floor hot tub with the girls eating each other out right beside you as you enjoy your drinks. Nice place with attractive girls. A bit small, and medium priced drinks/girls, but worth the shows.
Happy A Go-Go. A ton of attractive girls, but don’t take one just based on her looks. Trust me. I took Anne (not her real name) b/c she was SMOKIN HOT! GREAT TITS! Probably one of the sweetest pair I’d seen and larger than 80% of the others. But I got her home and she was a cold fish. It was bad. She didn’t want any lights on and I did everything. I had asked her for long time, but renegotiated and sent her home after one pop. She was depressing me. Anyway, I should have known at the bar when she wasn’t real talkative, that it was going to be a mistake, but my little head paid no attention to my better social sense. Many of us who have questions about Cobra Gold are senior members in good standing who contribute to the board.
I'm glad you had a great time and I am thankfull that you are keeping us safe at home.
When you get out and have to spend your own money on flights around the world to enjoy these women you will want to know the lay of the land.
No one here was bitching or moaning. In fact I had told members to buy drinks for you guys and try to get some information which might be usefull to us.
For example, pretend you work you ass off all year and decide that for your 2 weeks vacation you want to treat yourself to the lovely laddies of Pattaya.
You pony up $3,000 for business class flights (out of your own pocket) and come to Pattaya and guess what?
Being that it is the 25th year of CG the town is overrun and while there may be plenty of women its just plain hard to find a seat at a gogo and otherwise just uncomfortable.
On the otherhand.
A salior who is on leave, being paid by the GOV (us) enjoys himself and decides to share some information on the board which is helpful to those who are considering coming down.

Ok, in defence of those who asked the original question; it *does* make a difference whether or not the Navy is in town. Does it mean nobody else can get a screw? Of course not. But 5,000 18-25-year olds with money in their pockets and a fire in their pants will have a big impact on the scene, and it's only fair that other mongers want to know when that's happening.
I asked around while I was down there, and while nobody mentioned CG specifically, a couple of people told me that they were expecting a lot of sailors in town the weekend after next. Equally important, that weekend (14-16 May) is a long weekend in Thailand so expect large numbers of Bangkokians to head down for the w/end.
Yesterday (Monday) was a public holiday also, and Pattaya was a madhouse; traffic jams everywhere, full hotels and lots of middle-class Thais with families wandering around. The only place to escape was into the bars!

just my guess here. http://www.pattayacitynews.net/news_01_05_49_2.htm there just might have been some kind of dispute between the thai landlord and the french tenant. i could really never imagine that a frenchman would have attitude of superiority and be generally rude (that could never happen).
the last time the french were useful was in the battle of new orleans in the war of 1812. the next time that germany invades france i say let them keep it. that being said, i do feel sorry for this poor bastard if he did not know the girl’s age. 13 is young, but even girls this young can make themselves look much older.

i have stayed there, and they generally asked for the girl's id, which they kept at the counter. but this is more for security purposes & to control the entrance of people into the hotel. on one occasion i took a tg there, who had been there with me on an earlier occassion, and they didn't ask for her id the second time. so, they are primarily taking id's for security purposes, both the hotel's security & your's.
you and you alone bear the responsibility for ensuring that you are not engaging in sexual activity with a minor, period. it is not the responsibility of the hotel to kep you out of trouble, it is your responsibility. staying at a hotel that requires the tg's id is potentially an extra layer of security for you in this matter, but it will be you the brown-shirts come after if there is an issue.

I come to the board in need of help and suggestions.
I'm aware that every time I come to the land of smiles it is always a memorable experience!! This time I'm coming for my birthday and would like it to be extra speical. I'll be spending actual birthday in the pleasure dome that is Pattaya. I've only been there once before, but only for a couple of days, so have a taster of what to expect.
However any tips and suggestions, places to visit without fail to make it extra special?

Hey all,
I'm leaving for LOS on the 17th, my 5th time. Although I haven't has 100's of posts, I've been on this board for a long time, thanks to everyone for great information, well almost everyone. Generally, I have nothing to post because it would be redundant, for the most part,everything I've experienced has been lived and reported on by many of you. But it's your (informative) reports that have lead me to the good times that I and some friends have had, thanks again.
Heading down to Pattaya on May 21st. Whether or not Cobra gold exists or is some exaggerated myth, I'm still going. To any of you who may think CG may ruin their fun realize these points. First, it's low season, so even if troops are there, it still won't be any busier than high season. Second, military guys on leave will be partying so much, by the time they get around to barfining, the hotter girls will be already taken by more knowledgeable punters like me. Third, if the times get too tough for ya', it's only a 120 baht bus ride back to Bangkok, a dark empty closet or whatever else you consider to be a safer option. And finally, atleast in my case, I'll be happy to hear a higher proportion of American accents after so many years of the U.S. being a minority there. I don't really support the war, but I'm grateful and supportive of our troops and I won't mind at all rubbing shoulders with them, probably even buy them some beers here and there. It's Thailand and with all the diversity, it's always a great time unless you convince yourself otherwise, in which case, why bother going at all? Just like life in general, it is what you make of it. Enjoy, be safe.

Just a tip a realized the last time I went to Thailand. For me it was a vacation, but for you, it's your B-Day. Either way, I realized this is a vacation, make it memorable. Don't think so much about expenses, think instead of the great, priceless memories and ear to ear smile that you will enjoy forever. Treat yourself like a king realizing that we only get one shot to enjoy our lives, take advantage of your opportunities. Stay in a good hotel and eat well. If you see two hot girls and can't decide, get them both. Get a massage in the morning and a b-job in the afternoon. Spare no expense in search of your greatest vacation ever. These may be vague suggestions but hopefully will assist in putting you in the right mindframe.

There are girls with big boops in most of the gogo bars I have been to. No particular bar with "big boops only". I had the impression, though that in "The Sea" at Soi Diamond there are a lot of very nice boops. Perhaps not the biggest (though not small either), but definitely most of them with perfect shape.
I also found quite some big ones in "Happy Gogo", which is a bit behind and further south of Soi Diamond, just near the next bar place.

If it were me, I would get there 3 or 4 days before my birthday, find a great TG I like, and tell her to round up 4 or 5 friends for the special night. Contrary to some previous reports I have to say that the majority of SWs along the Beach Rd are true females (Katoyes become majority only in the very late hours). Plenty of nice pickings during the day and the evening and at great price at around 500Bht which seems standard. During the day you can get 300-400 ST sometimes. Quality is as good as at the bars (excluding the stars of the barsd which are anyway often not available or ask for a few K).

I am not going to be in Pattaya when you are there - too bad. But I have been there quite a few times - and certainly will be going again. I usually stay at the Sabai Lodge (http://www.sabailodge.com), which is nice, a bit outside (North Pattaya, between Soi 1 and 2, 10 minutes by public taxi to the walking street), and very guest-friendly. I recommend to book at the Sabai Wing (which is the newer part).
I have looked at the websites of the Cosy Beach Hotel and the Roof Garden Inn. They are actually just at the opposite side of the action compared to the Sabai Inn and might be worth a try. I am sure they are also very guest-friendly. Would be nice to hear then from your experience and about the quality of the hotels - and of course about the quality of the catch.

Let me preface this post by saying I've been to Pattaya twice, last in March this year, and love it. I'm 43 and not bad looking, not overweight. One of my favorite places to meet girls is in the discos. Good aircon rooms, and cable TV, so plenty of football to watch. Also it does a great breakfast buffet for 80B which is as much as you can eat and good quality food.
I love the Apex, but I'm open to other highly recommended options.
Does anyone know if Crazy Daves is still open? Fantastic full English breakfasts for 60B if I remember correctly, with Only Fools and Horses running on loop on the big screens.
Also what are the quality of Beach Rd girls nowadays and how much?
Are there still numerous She-Males at the North End to watch out for?

Patbutter, SabaiDee, Sabai Room, and Sabailand (if I got those names right) are all light years ahead of Diamond. I've tried Daimond twice and both times the girls tried to jack a big tip out of me while we were in the tub. One insisted on a B2500 tip but lowered her demands when I started to leave. Don't bother with Diamond. I went to a a soapy place called Susies years ago but don't know if their still open.

I stayed In the Nautical on Beech rd arounf SOI 10-11 which waas 700 BHT a night, did need an update but everything was changed and cleaned daily, tv & aircon included.

I have stayed at the Siam Sawasdee hotel and it is priced about the same as Apex. And both hotel location is near each other (about 7 min walk). But Since you seem to give Apex an excellent report than I suggest you stay there instead of the Siam Saw. it was very old with dim lighting, a good value but not an excellent value for the price.
I cant speak for the Apex so cant compare the two other than for the similar prices as I have never stayed there. Perhaps others can give you hints.

ww- didn't see tooo many north beach road - they seem to be prevalent about soi 14 to 13/1 (at the end of the "boy bar" area where penthouse is located - north past royal garden) and heavier concentrations after 3am or so (a simple "mai ow kup" seems to help avoid "problems") avoid the "non-beach" side of the road in that area
never saw any on beach up around soi 6/5 or so and don't usually walk beach north of 5 - but i'm not looking for them, just avoiding. there are several at various bars on soi 6 though - and one bar of the ugliest collection of "its" i have seen about 1/2 way between beach and 2nd on the south side of 6 (left side going toward beach) - in between 69 and jack tar (in synthetic hi-pitched voice) - "hello hansum man... bai nai?"

Except for no pool (have to go to Siam) Sawasdee Pattaya (soi Diana just south of buakhao) is ok as well. And, obviously, same price. Right now, Diana Millenium is pretty good at about B400 including "american breakfast" for an inside (no window) room.
Since I prefer Thai food, I usually go out on Buakhao to one of the various vendors. Besides, "all you can eat" usually means that I intensely OVEREAT (Apex food was OK, but not spectacular) IF you eat light you will "shrink" in Thailand unless you are thin as a rail to begin with.

HI Where is the Apex in Pattaya?
Last september i stayed in the Nautical Inn for 700BHT with Tv Aircon minibar , Clean once a day with change of linen & towels once a day could do with a referbishment but had no probs. On Beach Rd Soi11.
I Paid 500 BHT short time for a street girl during the day and 1000 bht for a long time with 200 bar fine for bar girl.
Apex is on 2nd Road east side (the right side) roughly across from Mike shopping centre

Hit the Beach Road SW scene last night. Brought a tiny little thing home (400B) that was awful and a certain part of her body smelled awful :-(. Out the door she went with a little more than enough to get here back to the beach (my apartment is a little out of the way). Went back and got the one I should have taken in the first place. Cute, nice body and great attitude (500B). Got her number in case of emergency.
Crazy Dave's is indeed still going. I stopped in and had lunch. Being a Yank I had never seen Only Fools and Horses. I'm sure I must somehow be a better person for the experience!??? A friend of mine tried to change hotels and move over to the Apex. Even though it is low season they were all booked up. You might need to plan ahead at the Apex. Had the great dinner buffet there last night. BTW the breakfast buffet is now 110B.

There were reports earlier asking about the impact Cobra Gold would have on Pattaya but this place seems rather slow to me. The last times I was here it was much busier. I mean its still crowded but CG doesn't seem to have made a difference one way or the other as far as I can tell.
Everything else here is pretty much the same as before, except business may not been as booming for some as they would like.

Soi Chaiyapoon is kind of a badly paved Soi that is easy to miss. But there is a small sign on a phone pole at the corner of Chaiyapoon and Buakaow that says Crazy Dave's 50m. Crazy Dave's and the surrounding places are nothing special. But as mentioned good food and beer prices.
Not sure if I like Only Fools and Horses or not :-). Maybe I'll have to go back for the 65B breakfast.

The receptionist gave the key to the bell boy and said I would have to go with the bell boy to the room. I told them that I had stayed there before and knew the rooms and could I have the key. The receptionist would not give me the key and I literally had to demand the key from the bell boy. The bell boy came over and threw it on the counter, obviously miffed he had missed out on a tip for showing the room. I really am happy to tip for service but I really felt I was being held to ransom here. 20 or 30 baht is nothing to us Farang it is just the principle that I don't like being taken for a ride. Anyway all I got after that was scowls every time I walked into reception. I have liked the Apex in the past for its convenient location and girl friendly attitude, but then it is one of many that are just as good. I checked out without even staying and swallowed the loss and checked in at the nearby Royal Twins Palace Hotel. Although three times the cost it was worth every baht. Anyway I have been to Pattaya many times and I can honestly say this is the quietest I have ever seen the resort. Despite Cobra Gold I saw little evidence that this had much of an impact on the place, indeed many of the bars were virtually empty. There were a couple of marines in reception each morning dressed in full camoflague gear waiting for transport but that was about all I saw.

A British man committed suicide shortly before he was due to appear in court to face charges of sexually molesting a child.
Police were notified of the death at 1:30 p.m. on May 12, and Pol Col Noppadol Wongnom, superintendent of Pattaya police station led officers to an address in Moo 9, Nongprue. At the scene police found the body of Nicholas John Rabet, a 57-year-old British citizen. He was lying on the bed in shorts but shirtless, his wrists and ankles handcuffed together and his head covered with a plastic bag. There was no trace of a struggle in the room.
On a desk the officers found a letter written in English, and containing the words, “Thanks everybody, and please kindly contact my lawyer Ann”. Police have now contacted the lawyer.
Investigations have revealed that Rabet had been charged with molesting a boy under the age of 15 years. He was on bail and due to present himself in court on May 29. The body was transferred to the Medical Jurisprudent Institute for autopsy.

Acting on Freelers post that BBB and BHBB on Pattayaland 1 where appropriately sleezey venues I headed over today. I usually don't print the details of such encounters but what the heck. I went in BHBB and sat near the back. A lady followed me in and sat next to me. Very nice face and tits but a bit bpoom bpuy (hope I got that right). I order a beer and we made small talk. Background: I had to resign my job in the public service in Australia, OK, the prison service, because I was stitched up. I needed to get away for a few days and with Tiger Airlines doing cheap flights from Australia, and with a holiday already planned in Pattaya in July, I thought I may as well go to the LOS for some fun! On the morning I left, I was front page headlines, picture and all, so I was glad to get out of the country:
Fuck up #1. I arrived in Bankok. I had read numerous websites about busses and taxis to Pattaya, but this being my first time in Asia, I was not prepared for the up-front almost confrontational sales pitches! I was offered a taxi to Pattaya for 2000 B. Guess what? I told him to get fucked. Whilst looking around for the way to the proper taxis, I was confronted by ‘Oh’ #1. She was drop dead gorgeous, a definite 11 on the scale. Every argument I gave her about her price (1900), she tore apart. Apparently the taxi ride to the bus station would be 50 minutes, maybe wait an hour for the bus, 3 hours in the bus, etc. Then I mentioned metered cabs. They would charge the same price she said. I argued the point, but this siren kept touching me and smiling at me. She could probably have sold me shares in Saddam Hussain inc. at that point, as I was mesmerized by her beauty, but I recovered, or so I thought, 1900 there, 1400 back, pay upfront! I thought it would be a scam, so I got every detail I could of the people, cars, IDs, whatever. Fortunately it wasn’t a scam and I had a nice Volvo to Pattaya, and the same back, however the total cost was 3300B, plus tips for the driver. Out of my 11000 budget, almost a third was blown.
Please someone, give proper directions for the metered taxis, because although this was a good service, it was dear!

Nothing. I questioned her/it and searched the room, nothing, did the third degree, nothing, and I had to face it in the three or four minutes I was inn the shower she could have put it anywhere, even outside the room, so I dragged her downstairs and spoke to the old woman who owned the rooms, or whatever. I wasn’t getting much joy from anyone, so I threatened to beat the fuck out of them both, and smash the place up! Now I know all the advice says do not get agro in LOS, but I was drunk, pissed off, still trying to reconcile losing my job, and not in the mood for lying bastards. I told the blond thing to sit down and told the old lady to phone the police, otherwise I would trash the hotel. I think she understood. 30 minutes passed, still no police, still no admission from the blond thing, so I got up with the warning- When I see you again, by yourself, you’re fucken dead!’ I think me grabbing it by the throat and going face-to-face got the message through!
Thoroughly pissed off now, I crossed the road to look for a FL. I had no money, as it had been stolen, and all I had was in the hotel safety box, so I put it to a few girls, pay you in the morning, has to be longtime. Tip # 8. Don’t go to Pattaya with a bad attitude like me!
Finally, Thai girls are lovely, and it is true if you treat them well they treat you well, so go there, learn from my mistakes, and enjoy Pattaya.

Tip # 2. One of the best ways to spot a ladyboy (it only took me 3 days to discover! Doh!) is that they are too well presented and always preening themselves. Real girls have confidence in their looks, ladyboys do not!
Tip # 3. Freelancers on Beech Road are dodgy, better stick to bars and pay for what you get.

Tip # 6. If you are going to go mongering in Pattaya, do your homework!
Tip # 7. Get a t-shirt made up with the following words ‘ No I don’t want to buy a fucking suit, for the twentieth time, fuck off.’ And below it. ‘Shove your survey up your arse!’ That way you may be able to walk along Beech Road without getting hassled too much.
Tip # 8. Don’t go to Pattaya with a bad attitude like me!
Finally, Thai girls are lovely, and it is true if you treat them well they treat you well, so go there, learn from my mistakes, and enjoy Pattaya.

I made a number of mistakes, and I hope others reading this thread will be able to take on board what I have said and make sure they do not make the same ones!
I think I was having a run of bad luck, and sometimes I think that one's own attituide can create more bad luck and it becomes a self perpetuating wave of self destruction.
The good thing is that I don't think I could have done much else wrong, and I have certainally learnt from my mistakes- I mean, how stupid was it to go there without a properly working camera? I didn't put that down as a mistake!
When I get back from my next trip, it will be a completely different report, hopefully a positive one, with positive tips for enjoying Pattaya.

This is good advice. Unfortunately it also applies to an awful lot of Thais in Pattaya, who break their own culture rules so often in sin city it's fuckin' comical. eg: The angry, threatening restaurant manageress when you ever-so-politely query an overcharge on your chek bin, etc, etc.
Petemcc, you learned well. Next trip should go very well.
My Tip#1. RTFF . You would have learnt the best rates for taxi, bus and know where to go and how much to pay. You would have also learnt how to spot LBs.
Tip #2. OK to drink, but not get drunk when you want to pick up girls.
Tip #3. Mellow out. You will have a better time than if you are angry all the time.

Now that the military is gone Pattaya is back to it's low season ways. Hit a few GoGos last night and they were much slower than the previous nights. Have to leave in two days after five plus weeks. Nicely survived the elections, religious holiday and Cobra Gold. All pretty much non events although a little alcohol planning for the first two might be in order. However you can always find girls. Not sure what the two day celebration of the King's 60 Year Succession to the Throne June 12-13 will bring. It was suggested at an expats meeting it might be good days to not be in Bangkok. But just passing along what I heard.
Bar fined this crazy server at Champion A GoGo last night. Rather my friends bar fined her for me on a dare. For those of you that get tired of the same old dance music at all the GoGos Champion plays classic rock, and up to Guns n' Roses and Metallica. A welcome relief from "Don't you wish your girlfriend looked like me" for this old fart. Champion is just a little south of Happy A GoGo on the same side of the street. Not a fancy GoGo but not bad.
Been to a GoGo on Soi 8 called Silver Star a few times. You can't miss the huge blue neon guitar sign outside. Had a couple of crazy nights there and they always have a few good looking girls. A good place to beat the heat, with cheap draws, as you work the beer bars on Soi 7 and Soi 8.
Free, I mentioned you when I went in the BBB but they threw me out. So I decide to keep quiet in the BHBB :) :)

Pete - NEXT time, you might benefit from a quick cab ride to Morchit bus station (as long as it is before 7pm arrival at the bus station - the final bus to pattaya is at 7PM) and take the blue/white to Pattaya - faster than going to Ekkamai (but the last bus from Ekkamai is 11PM). You WILL, though, be a little "confused" at arrival in Pattaya at the bus station (if you have no idea where you are) - but not to worry, the "taxis" (the song-taeow pickup trucks) are there and for a small sum (not over 100B) they will take you to your hotel. Once you learn the city, you will just go across the road and catch whatever song-taeow is passing by and figure out how to get where you want for several 10B rides. It's a "learned experience"
Late night arrivals you have essentially no choice, BUT if you make up with someone in advance to share a cab to Pattaya, the cost will be about 800B or so (of course, my most recent trip of 1 month ago, we arrived LATE at 230AM!! and after clearing customs and claiming bags it was 330 or so - so I just waited until 7 and took the local airport bus form the airport to Ekkamai - bad decision since the blue/white bus travels the city streets from the station to the motorway and it takes 45 minutes or so by itself - but the bus left earlier - they start running at 5AM but the taxi fare to Ekkamai is 300 or so)
BASIC Thai helps quite a bit. And a bit more advanced and you can "lurk" and listen to what they are saying about you - sometimes very interesting conversation.
Duni's comment about reading the forum is "correct" but until you have "experienced" it, you can't quite grasp the nuances. About 4 more trips and you will be a seasoned traveller

Slightly off-topic for the forum, but hopefully some of you can be of assistance.
I have been to Pattaya a few times now and have always had a great time there.
In 6 weeks I am returning again, but this time I am planning a golfing holiday. I have seen that there are about 15 golf courses in the area.
However, can anyone recommend the best courses to play? What kind of costs am I looking at?
I will be staying at the Apex Hotel as usual (I really rate it.) on 2nd road.
Which courses are closest to this area? What about getting there? I guess taking a taxi everytime I go to play golf will be the way to go. What about car-hire? Is it an option to hire for two weeks and still be quite cost effective? It would be nice to be able to explore other areas, as before I have purely been for girl action, and never ventured any further than North Pattaya down to the far South on a moped.
Is it necessary to book in advance? I will be alone, so do the professionals usually pair you with other people?
Are there any tips regarding tipping/caddies/carts. Anything you think will help me out to enjoy a problem free two weeks of beautiful golf and beautiful women?
On to the topic of women, last time I was there I had a couple of freelancer take-outs from Beach Rd and they proved to be excellent choices, but it's a bit hit and miss. From the reports I have been reading it seems there seems to be a higher prevalance of Katoeys which is not so good.

Your negative frame of mind is what doomed your trip from the beginnng. An 11000 baht budget didn't help either. If you have a low budget, travel as the Thais do - by public bus. Private cars are always the most expensive way to travel.

I went there with the wrong attitude, probably expecting to get ripped off, and I created my own destiny.

Two of my favorite courses are Laem Chabang and Khao Kheow. Sorry not certain of the charges anymore. Last I played them it was 700B for weekdays and 1100 or so for weekends in the low season. Tipping for a caddy is 200-500B depending on how generous you are, how good looking she is and whether she knows the greens or not.

The girl would also know ahead in advance how much she would be expected earning every month. And the guys would know how much they will expect to spend each month! Bar owners could also budget better to pay their bills, etc. Bookings could be made for the whole month ahead either at the bar or through the net or even at 7/11 stores.
For guys who just want to beat in fuck-points it would save the tiresome process of chatting. For example if you have 5 fucks planned for the week then you could do it all in one day and the rest of the week would be freed up for recreation, hobby or whatever. You had your meat and wouldn't feel left out. (***see note below)
If you are in some sort of competition or similar then we could get stamps in our

Thought I'd try Jomtien as a base for my latest stay on the Thai Riviera. Good move on my part. As a resort, it is everything that you want it to be: It has a great beach (unlike Pattaya) which has all the requisite sports activities and is, strangely, floodlit at night; it has the full range of accoms from splurge (in the ascendancy) down to budget; it has restaurants for all, from tourist tat all the way through to the ran a han for khun Thai on central Beach Road; it has Jomtien's very own Fawlty Towers the Jomtien Boathouse which serves 'restaurant style' Thai food according to it's staff (I bet 50bt that Giotto knows the owner); there is a superb weekend night market on Thapprasit Road just round the corner from the Tesco Lotus and shopping mall.
Onto punting. The lower numbered sois on Beach Road have lots of beer bars, standard fayre, a few with ST rooms upstairs. Where Beach Road bends away from the beach and becomes Thappraya Road is the sort-of town centre. There are beer bars and two [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) poor agogos on this stretch. Behind the road on the left heading toward Pattaya is the Jomtien Complex. This has one or two fun bars, the most fun one during my visit imo was Las Vegas. Here you can play pool with a naked girl for the princely sum of 200bt. Feel free to put her off her shot using any method you like. When the game has finished you can ST the girl upstairs for the usual prices.

The Soapy MP's are 1600 baht all inclusive. Not sure what you mean by a BB but generally 500 baht short time and 1000 baht long time for bar girls plus a bar fine. These range from 200 up to 400 baht depending on the establishment. Go go's are more expensive though I can't give you a qualified answer on this as I don't use them. If you pick up a freelancer at a disco, for example Lucifers on Walking Street, the rates tend to be the same as the bars, obviously without the bar fine! Hope this helps

You can practice cable waterskiing on Lakeland 5km on the highway to Sattaship for 300TB 2 hours or 500 full day (new wakeboards on rent 500TB not necessary). Dont swallow the water!
You can also rent a windsurf on Jomtien Beach; the nearest rental near tourist bureau are expensive, but there are 2 others farther who accept 200TB pro hour, the one near boats disembarkment has also a kind of hobbycat for 500TB (negociable).
All their equipment is a bit outdated so if you can afford it, there is a real school with high class equipment on seaside in front of "Pattaya park" (below the television tower), unfortunately prices are european.
There was even a skysurf monitor there 2 years ago.
For scuba diving, you have to go to the island in front (koh Lan), but the water is not cristal clear and there are a lot of crazy jetskiers (the biggest sportmen of pattaya!!!), so I only saw small fishes near the seashore. Thai boat owners have better locations where they can drop you. Best option if you are alone is certainly to ask to one of the diving schools near Pattaya Beachroad.
For swimming, avoid Pattaya at any price , Jomtien is seemingly cleaner, dont go to pattaya park pool either (nothing to do except slides among children!)
All in all, enough to spend time between your sessions if you are not too demanding!

The area of Pratumnak Hill, which divides Jomtien and Pattaya is well known locally for muggings. Last year, one evening, a Thai/farang couple were rammed off their moving motorbike on the main road and robbed.
Jomtien Beach Road area gets packed full on weekends with visiting Thais, far more so than Pattaya. Maybe I was lucky (I usually am :-)), but I was never troubled by anybody nor ever saw any trouble. No herds of katoeys either. I'm sure there are incidents in Jomtien, but not on the scale of Pattaya Beach Road.
Yeah, one's standard of pool does tend to mysteriously deteriorate in Las Vegas bar :D. It's fun, best part being: If you're feeling het-up from the fun and want a quick release, it's a short walk upstairs to the purpose-built rooms. I am no MP fan, but as far as I remember the MPs quote you 1600-2000 for a 90min session. Any additional tip to the girls is welcomed.
Go-Go girls will get 1000-1500 ST and 1500-2500 LT in average.
Bargirls usually get 500-1000 ST and 1000-2000 LT.

a person telling friends and colleagues with a straight face about a cultural trip to bangkok puts enough of a strain on credibility, so i may have failed to mention pattaya to anyone. discussing a journey to pattaya leaves a person with very little wiggle room as far as concerns actual purpose.
on the recommendation of a like-minded colleague, i booked five days at opey de place hotel, on soi lengkee 1. it lies far enough away from the main action that any influx of sailors or marines would likely have little effect. the rooms cost 700 baht per day. the hotel has a decent swimming pool, plus centrally located safe-deposit boxes and a small restaurant. last but not least, their policy towards the girls is completely friendly. by the way, shorts and sandals are mandatory attire due to the heat.
my goal for this trip was to find one girl i could spend the five days with, mostly hang out at the swimming pool during the daylight hours and devote nighttime attention to her. i spent not too much time searching beer bars before i found ladda (picture attached) at a place on pattaya second road. her english language skills as non-existent as my thai, our communication was mainly limited to words and expressions gleaned from language books. the bar fine amounted to only 200 baht, which surprised me. i guess this reflects the low season. it was necessary to go to the bar each day to pay this bar fine.

Maybe you did not read me carefully. The Traveller, as I said, I do speak some Thai, and learnt the writing too, that is why I have tryied hard to communicate with Pattaya girls, regardless of their command of English. Of course it is not because you don't speak the language of someone that this person has nothing to tell. I speak fluently three languages and so so anoher two, I travel a lot to learn about other people's cultures, so I don't think I am suspect of deniyng any sense to other people. All I meant is that, as Old Thai Hand said, I am too fed up with the old same stories of Pattaya girls to bear it for five consecutive days. Being also a frequent player in China, I can't help but compare with the relationship I can have with Chinese girls (with whom I am fully able to communicate), far more interesting. With Chinese, it may be poorer sex service, but best quality relationship. More true, more sincere, more rewarding. I guess it also largely depends on the customer's attitude and his interest in the girl. But I still suspect that your approach wrt Pattaya bargirls may be wrong for anything more than a 3F experience. Put aside OTH's cutting humour. We all live in a global village nowadays. Just about everybody in Thailand has access to TV and internet, and, consequently, information about world politics, sport, fashion, music, etc, etc.....
Near enough everybody on this planet has at least one interesting story in them. Wealth, social status and (as The Traveler has pointed out) education are very loose associates of intelligence and personality. Your hotel doorman may well be wiser and more interesting than a hugely successful local businessman who got lucky by being in the right place at the right time or had relatives/friends who were lucky in business and invited him along for the ride.
If you bore or intimidate your jenga/connect 4 opponents, they will not stray much from their basic customer liason training schedules. Just give 'em a chance, Erik. A lot of these gals are fine company if you allow them to be.

I have said it in the past and I may say it again if it serves your ego. I do believe that you know more than me regarding certain issues in Thailand.
But I wonder where your extensive knowledge about (Pattaya) prostitutes come from. Didn't you tell us that you don't need them because you can get the best of the best in LOS ? You also called Pattaya certain names (can't exactly remember them and am too lazy to read back) which indicated that it is a off limits area for a guy like you.
Anyway, how many intelligent conversations did you had with any white girl in the same age range ? Guess not too many. You could talk about fashion, shoes, make-up, diets, relationships, where to find some Vit. E. or the next party, but hardly about politics, economics, science or the like. They are usually not interested in such things. Just look at the magazines which target this clientele and sell in very high numbers, they are only full of crap.

I have been very interested in astrophysics since I have been a child. I just find it fascinating but I assume you wouldn't make a good dialog partner regarding this issue. Although my comments were of a more general nature (ie. most Thais, educated or not are not all that interested in things that don't concern or benefit them directly), I'll let your response stand mostly unchallenged, if for no other reason than this thread isn't the place for a protracted discussion about this. It's probably pretty boring for 99.9% of the punters here.
I will say, however that I've had some experience with Pattaya hookers and afterall are they not the same as Bangkok hookers with which I've had considerable experience in the past? I never said they were stupid, per se, I agree with you that they have other issues. But, these issues are not deep in terms of worthy an extensive discussion.
Your comments about them having to "struggle to put food on the table for themselves and their families" is very romantic and idealistic, and betrays a certain level of viewing them through rose-coloured glasses, not to mention imbuing them with a nobility that I don't think the vast majority of them deserve. Lots of women from Isaan, who are just as poor and just as in need of putting food on the table opt for maintaining self-respect by choosing to work in a variety of more respectable jobs, albeit for much lower salaries. A good many hookers are just lazy, choosing the easy, albeit larger income from hooking than they can make working in, say a factory for 4,000 baht/month. It doesn't make them noble, just opportunistic. Could you live on this amount, not to say save some money to pay back the debt plus interest which is usually 3% per month !!!
Saying that laziness is the reason for being a hooker doesn't only ignore that it is impossible to pay back such a debt with such an interest rate. It also ignores the fact that it is also hard to work in a GoGo e.g. Not only that you have to dance all night in an overcooled room only dressed with a bikini (or less), even if you are sick. You also put yourself at risk every night never knowing what to expect. Remember, there aren't just nice and healthy guys out there.

Theres a few posts that you've written that i don't agree with (JMO), and you do tend to come across as the encyclopedia of all that is Thailand which gets tired especially when one disagrees, but i have to pat you on the back for the above summary, again, IMHO this paragraph is a very realistic summary of the Thai-farrang scene, and i totally agree with you on this.

Thanks. Yes, sometimes I do come across as a bit over-bearing. But, on the other hand, why should I be condemned for knowing considerably more than most about the country? I live and work her and have done so for a long time. I don't claim to be an expert on the P4P scene, for example; far from it. But, I am well-versed in those areas about which I write. But, I'll try to tone down the pompous-meter a little.
Monkey - having travelled in Latin America and Eastern Europe I disagree. The issue is more about "availability of female companionship" (as well as a "simpler" language - Spanish is much simpler than any of the SE Asian languages or Russian). True, depending on your point of view, the women are more "beautiful" (in the eye of the beholder, of course - I saw some ABSOLUTE stunners in Mockba) but the COST is simply too much. Most guys in here only seem to see the male part, ignoring the problems the girls have to deal with. They didn't came to Pattaya because they had such a nice life back home, they came to make some money as there aren't much options out there.
Many guys obviously don't know how hard it is to find a decent job, especially without a good education. But even with, it's still not easy. I know several people who left school at the 12th grade, some went to a technical college afterwards and some even studied at a university. Still not easy to get a job. You will need at least 12yrs at school to get hired at a simple 7eleven, so guess how likely it is to get a job with only 6yrs or 9yrs of school.

I'm new to the forum and have found it an exceptionally interesting, useful and comical site all rolled into one.
I have visited Pattaya a good few times now, and have another trip planned in about 4 weeks and 1 day (not that I'm counting or anything.)
I would not in any shape or form class myself as a seasoned veteran within mongering spheres, but I have had many experiences with the girls of Pattaya during previous trips and have never yet been burnt by any poor episodes.

Go for it in August. I always go mid August. When it rains go to a bar or have fun in your room. Lots of girls and less punters. A very good time to go.

the authorities seem to be more serious about preventing anyone from engaging in any activities besides sleep after midnight than they are about actually eliminating freelancing. this is of course unfortunate as the thai climate is unpleasant during the day, and often quite lovely at night.
several interesting anecdotes i heard from girls on the subject: firstly, that the fine for prostitution continues to be 100 baht. secondly, that girls caught with drugs in their system have their hair cut short by the police. thirdly, that girls rounded up will have their blood checked! these all sound fairly preposterous, particularly the third, but keep your eyes peeled for these short-haired girls - they'll no doubt be the best performers.

I always wonder why guys like you find it ridiculous if existing laws are enforced. I guess you would think differently if you would own a house or condo there and a bar opens right next to your property, playing loud music, getting no sleep all night long.
Those laws date back quite far and have already been enforced 20yrs ago, nevertheless Pattaya prospered. Opening hours were only changed later on as time went on. During the "good old times" gogos closed 1am straight, even Marine Bar closed 1:30am straight. Laws are laws and must be respected or do you believe that everybody can choose which laws he should respect and which can be ignored ?
Anyway, it's a declared goal to change Pattaya's attitude, to make it a family destination because those families usually spend much more money in average and getting rid of the sex scene - or at least keep it in a controlled area - means to get rid of the problems and crimes attached to it.
Other places around the world, which offer far less than Pattaya has to offer, sell quite good and I see no reason why it shouldn't work here as well. Just because you see no other reason to go there - which speaks volumes about you - doesn't mean that all others think the same.

I dare to object. There are all sort of activities like golf, kart racing, waterski, para-sailing, bowling, tennis, badminton, diving and so on. There are restaurants of all sorts and you have a few attractions close by like Nong Nooch, Wat Yan, Khao Kiau,Zoo, Aqarium in Bang Saen and the like. Beaches are acceptable (Jomtien and Naklua) anf often better than at other destinations. Pattaya will be in competition with other seaboards (Mediterranean for Europeans, Carribean for US) which often have less to offer. I doubt that there would be a big prob for Pattaya at all. What's the best way to get out to the golf courses of Pattaya, and in general how much are taxi's to get there? What should I pay to get from say Pattaya 2nd road to Khao Kheow?
I will try to secure the attention of a caddy while there - just for fun. That would be a great story for the grand-kids.
TT - well let me clarify a little - I know it's one of the eastern seaboard resort areas and is frequexnted by Thai for beach leisure activity. (and that type of activity wasn't what I meant - which you describe.)
In Grungthep there are various museums and of course shopping and other "cultural attractions" (not to say that shopping is a cultural attraction but to the ladies it is) There is little if any of that in Pattaya. "General" stuff expected in a resort area, yes - beach, light accractions (the stuff you mention) fishing, and if one wants to travel a bit, some parks. The bars, yes - for animal watching (as well as drunk congregation centres) The beach - as a jump off point for other locales (not so bad since the sewage plant was built many years ago but the better swimming is a Jomtien as you note)

Monkey - having travelled in Latin America and Eastern Europe I disagree. The issue is more about "availability of female companionship" (as well as a "simpler" language - Spanish is much simpler than any of the SE Asian languages or Russian). True, depending on your point of view, the women are more "beautiful" (in the eye of the beholder, of course - I saw some ABSOLUTE stunners in Mockba) but the COST is simply too much. While the travel cost is less, everything else is MUCH MORE (except food). And - there aren't as many "other" activities - man does not live for "OI" (Thai for "clam" - colloquial for "pussy") alone

I understood what you meant but that's exactly what the government tries to do, making Pattaya a family destination. As far as I know statistic have shown, that an average family spends more that an average MALE tourist.
Many guys who go there are quite cheap. Many just stay at very cheap hotels, spending only little on food, a bit more for drinks and a couple of baht for the girls. But families often consume more, stay at the resorts and do extensive shopping plus sightseeing and all sorts of activities.
It's not that the MALE tourist will just disappear and that there will be no substitution for him. Have a look at the streets and you will see that there are more and more families visiting Pattaya.
Anyway, I doubt that they intend to completely destroy the scene, they just want to restrict it to a certain area and keep it in control. The bars and cafes which are spreading all over Pattaya are already causing problems due to the noise and trouble which comes along with them. Loud music/karaoke machines, drunken customers who are fighting or damage property isn't something that helps to sell the place.

There are millions of people who travel around the world and often only spend all the day on the beach. Thailand is still exotic for most foreigners, food and accomodation are very good and cheap. Just the flights might be more expensive than to other destinations (depending on where you live), but the overall price is still very competitive. Pattaya is often sold in combination with a few days in BKK (BKK=sightseeing, Pattaya=beach). I can get a two weeks package to Pattaya for the same money that I would have to pay for a two weeks package to Spain, but all additional costs are far less. Also don't forget the Asian travellers who do not have to travel around the world like we have.
Just ask yourself why people fly to other destinations like the Maledives, Sri Lanka (Ceylon) or Madagaskar. There is even less to do. Or why would anybody like to spend it's holidays in Benidorm or Mallorca (both Spain), Turkey, Tunisia or any of the other Mediteterranean destinations ? They don't offer a sex scene like Pattaya does but still sell very well.
Where are all those great places for food in Pattaya? How bout naming a couple? Best place I have found is the Sizzler (and at best it is mediocre)

Berliner Bistro on soi 13 - excellent German food.
I ate breakfast at another place on soi 13, the place is primarely a seafood place but has great American breakfasts. It was on the south side of soi 13 about 100 yards from the Berliner Bistro heading towards beach road.

Anyone who thinks that Pattaya will suffer when the sex trade disappears is mistaken. The transplanted sex workers, who come from other parts of the country will of course suffer. But, they'll just leave and flood BKK or become hairdressers, the career of choice for most ex-BGs.
The locals will transform to meet the market demands of the new tourists. Even now, Pattaya is one of the main destinations for Korean newlyweds and Thai families. Thailand is full of beach resorts that thrive and don't have any sex industry: Krabi, Phi Phi, Koh Chang, to name a few. Pattaya is in fact a bit of an anomaly in that regard. Phuket, although it has a sex industry, too largely thrives on tourism that has nothing to do with its relatively small P4P scene.

Yes. But, they are building behind it. All around there has been rennovated and up-graded, what with Jasmine and California Wow, Fitness First etc. Based on what I've heard at work, (and the people I work with are in the know), it's coming down within the year. But, we'll see.

My plans of the last vacation comprehended also a flight from the Pattaya Airport U-Tapao to Ko Samui together with my steady Thai girl friend and her 4 years old daughter. My first idea was to book that flight already from Germany, but finally I discarded this idea, because in the low season you can book such flights in time.
So after arriving from Bangkok and checking in in the Sabai Lodge on Wednesday, I went to a travel agency on the corner of Beach Road and Soi Post Office on Thursday and booked the flight for next Monday and the return flight for the following Friday. No problems with that. Had to pay all together about 12.000 Baht. The airline was the Bangkok Airways.
On Monday at 2.30 p.m. a private taxi picked us up. U-Tapao is near Rayong. The trip with the taxi took about 1 hour and cost 1000 Baht.
The airport of U-Tapao is a military airport. So no chance to make some photos from the area. In former times only the Thais and the USA used this airport for the purpose of military.
Exhilarating for me is that today Russian Non military airplanes are allowed to land there and disinvite their tourists. But I never have heart, that Lufthansa of Air France or Emirates or Thai Airways had the permission to bring their passengers to U-Tapao.
At 3.30 p.m. we checked in, and as it seemed, that all passengers were attendant, we could enter the airplane at 4 p.m. and short time later we started. (20 minutes earlier than normal). The airplane was a propeller aircraft. I think about 60 or 80 passengers could take seat. Service on board was ok. They served something to eat and drink. And after 50 minutes flight time we landed on the Ko Samui Airport. About the time in Ko Samui and the hotel I will report in the Samui section.

I was actually being ironic. Maybe, you didn't get that?
Out and about last night. First I went to Tahitian Queen and Angelwitch because I like the bars that play heavy metal. It was a little late so a lot of girls were barfined out. Angelwitch had the better remaining selection at about 1 am.
After that I went to Marine Disco. Here I found the girls in my target range to be a little hard to get. Many studiously avoided eye contact. The ones that were obviously on the game didn't interest me much. Eventually I did connect with someone to my liking, but it took more than 2 hours of walking around and hard work. So if you go to this place you can surely find something but don't expect her to just jump into your arms.

But again Pattaya remains one of the safest place compared to South Amer.,Phill.,Africa,etc.etc...So good hunting and don't forget to keep the beach road price down.500 is enough.

They aren't going to illiminate the industry in Pattaya on Soi Cowboy because of a moralistic campaign of any sort. It's purely economics. Families spend more money than mongers and therefore that's the motivation in Pattaya. Soi Cowboy is simply an eye-sore on very valuable land that is ripe for up-market development.
What will happen? Another location will pop up somewhere. With the MRT and Skytrain, they could move it out towards the Thai scene around Sutthisan. Maybe they'll ressurect Washington Square. It would be a good location for gogo bars as it's secluded and self-contained and already full of seedy bars. Who knows?

I'm writing from Koh Chang, where it's been raining to beat the band and the seas are too rough for diving.
The second night in Pattaya I toured around some of the Gogo bars. First I went to Champagne A Go Go near the Areca Lodge. Then I toured a couple about a block from the walking street. All of them had good possibilities but I was in an exploring mood.
I went to Walking Street again with some trepidation, afraid I would meet last night's clingy take girl, but thankfully she wasn't out and about. I dropped in on Angelwitch but they seemed a bit depleted. Then I went over to Lucifer Disco. It seemed just a lot like Marine Disco, except a little more crowded. There were lots and lots of girls here to be picked up but again some of them take some work. Still feeling restless I went out, avoiding Marine Disco since I figured last night's girl might be there. I dropped in on this open air hip hop place which is just across from the road that leads to Angelwitch. I forgot to get the name of it. When I went in here found myself sitting at the bar next to a couple of girls done up in blond hair. I normally don't go for this type but one had a really nice body. After some dirty dancing and drinks she agreed to go back with me for 500. This time I made it clear it was short time. I didn't want another clinger. Back at the room she had lots of nice places for my hands to travel. The sex was good but not memorable. I sent her on her way before I remembered to take photos.
The next, and last night it was raining pretty constantly so I stayed close by the hotel. First I popped into some beer bars. There all free to go into, so the thing to do is walk around and go into any that strikes your fancy. If it isnt fun go somewhere else. Keep doing this for awhile and soon you will find one you like. Trial and error on walking street is a better plan than getting someone else's opinion, imho.
