Rainy season is just a guide as its "most likely" to occur at that time. But depends on where you are in LOS as weather is different thru out the country.
Up north in Thailand, there were still flooding in NOV last year as rainy season suppose to end by Oct. (cooler at this time)--also prices could double or even triple as this is the start of the busy season.
If you like the heat then April-June is the time for you and prices are cut in half (low season).
So overall, depends on what you like and what you willing to spend.

Besides, your either on the hunt for a hole or your pluggin a hole, so who gives fuck what's going on outside! :)

Rockabilly,

there is so much more to LOS than just hanging out in bars all day long.

Seems you are a sex tourist. Shame on you :D

Rockabilly,

Seems you are a sex tourist. Shame on you :DYes shame on me! Shame, shame, shame. LOL

I have been sleeping only 4hrs a night since arriving in LOS. I start my day at the local beer gardens thn make my way to walking street were I head to some gogos (like living dolls) then its off to lucifer for a while and then over to Marine 1&2 until the sun comes up. At about 10am I'll head to the pharmacy for some "diamond" candy and then we crawl back to the hotel. Hopefully by then I have drunk my self sober and then boom boom for a few hors and take photos.

Sex tourist?

Nah Party tourist!

I'm flying over to phuket tomorow so maybe then I see an see some islands and give my liver a break!

I didn't know there was anything else to see in pattaya except for "pussy" "knock offs" and "indian men selling suits"

Anyways yall, I'll post some pics soon!

Rockabilly,

Pattaya isn't the best example but even there are nice places like Koh Larn, Wat Yan, Bang Sarai and so on.

Anyway, I said LOS. It's true, Pattaya is mostly "party orientated" but there are lots of cultural sites around the country and the landscape in the South and North is really worth to see.

When on Phuket rent out a motorbike and drive around a bit. But remember, drive careful, Thais don't !
Very nice beaches and even Phuket Town has some history. Don't miss a boat tour at Phang Nga Bay.

Anyway, have fun and enjoy your trip :)

Bro, dont know where you are from but LOS is beautiful country. Try Chiang Mai up north for culture and the mountain temples etc.
At least you will make it to Phuket. Its lovely there especially the boat ride to "james bond isle"--I know its tourist destination but afterall, you are a tourist. The limestone formations are nice to see, unlike the flat grassland and cows at home.
BTW: I agree about the Indian men, but what's wrong with just seeing pussy and knockoffs???--ha ha

All flights must use new airport from Sept 28, 2006
======================================

Suvarnabhumi international airport will handle all regular commercial flights into Bangkok from Sept 28, caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra announced yesterday.

Mr Thaksin, who chaired a meeting of the Suvarnabhumi airport development committee yesterday, based his announcement on briefings he received on progress in the airport's construction.

Progress and system checks justified the confidence that Suvarnabhumi could take over all regular commercial operations from Don Muang airport in one go at 3am on Sept 28, he said.

He had ordered Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) to inform all airlines flying into Bangkok of the decision.

A plan for Don Muang airport to serve low-cost airlines had been cancelled, Mr Thaksin said.

"All regular commercial flights will switch to Suvarnabhumi, while Don Muang airport will, from then on, serve only government and military flights, along with private and charter flights," he said.

Don Muang could be used to reduce the workload of Suvarnabhumi in the future if the new airport reaches its full capacity of serving 45 million passengers annually, he said.

Don Muang's air passenger volume stands at 39 million annually.

Caretaker Transport Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal expected Suvarnabhumi to be at full capacity in three years.

The first international terminal building and the domestic terminal at Don Muang would be maintained for possible future use. The second international terminal would be developed into a museum and exhibition complex.

Mr Pongsak said expanding Suvarnabhumi had not been discussed seriously yet to protect the price of AOT shares.

Ahead of Sept 28, Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, PB Air, Nok Air, One-Two-Go and Thai AirAsia would direct some of their non-connecting domestic flights to land at Suvarnabhumi from July 29 for real tests. But flights out of Bangkok would depart from Don Muang as usual.

There would be enough public transport services and facilities available to serve passengers of the selected flights from July 29 onwards, and the passengers would also receive special certificates to mark their early appearance at the new airport, said Mr Pongsak.

What happend to the "use Don Muang for domestic filghts and Suw for international"?

That was what was proposed some time ago

Paulo - a LOT closer to Pattaya (like about 1/2 as far or so) Evidently from 9/28 ALL flights will be from the NEW BKK airport (anybody know if the BKK designator will transfer??)

As is typical with things Thai (and to be honest with other airports as well) expect utter CHAOS for a short time (maybe a mointh or so - just think - I will have the "honour" of arriving 10/1 - just what I need...)

To Phuket, it's more a question of who doesn't fly there! Thai, Bangkok, Nok, One2Go, Air Asia, maybe more?

Samui island, you're fucked. This koh is run by cartels and mafias, and Bangkok Air own the airport. Sheesh, you even have to pay to get out! Is it still 400bt?

Paulothai,

If you use Nana ( Sukhumvit ) as the middle, the current airport is 20 minutes from Nana without traffic. The new airport is also approximately 20 minutes from Nana without traffic going the opposite direction which makes it closer to Pattaya but certainly not half way! On my last 2 trip the latest in June, coming from Pattaya, as soon as I saw the new airport I time the trip. The driver paid 2 tolls I believe it was 40 baht for the first and 25 for the second. Approximately 20 minutes from the new airport there was a turn off for Sukhumvit. I started the time again at that point and it was approximately another 15-20 minutes later we arrived at the old airport! If you go to Pattaya on arrival from the new airport you certainly will be closer to Pattaya and certainly less traffic once you hit the freeway.

The new airport is located pretty close to bangna, right? The best I have done pattaya, direct from walking street, to Bangna, was a little more than 1 hour. about 1hr 10mins to be precise but was actually going to the Novotel on srinakarin. That was during songkran earlier this year when there was nothing on the roads going in my direction and the taxi driver had a lead boot on his foot.

I'm new to the LoS, but not the tradecraft. If any fellow mongers are around and wouldn't mind showing me the ropes over a drink or two send me a PM.

Optic Guard,

Why not find one when you get to Thailand? It is much better than planning a trip with someone you may not click with.

If you time is very limited, Duni made a good suggestion with Thaifriends etc.. You can get to know her a bit online before arriving and then see if you click in person. Be upfront with her about the swinging lifestyle.

If money is no issue, then you could go with an escort from BKK. They are relatively expensive but probably will speak some English.

Most people (including me) in this forum are into variety (IMHO) so they don't necessarily want to stick with one girl for their trip to LOS.

To each his own....

Seasoned Travelers,

I could really use your advice. A couple friends and I would like to travel to the LOS next year and I'm in charge of making the arrangements as I have the most knowledge of this hobby. I know the best time to go would be around Oct-Nov, but we have one guy in college so we'll need to go during the summer (USA). Is it better to go in late May early June or latter in Aug? Personally, I'm not one to deal with terrific heat, but if there's some hotties to baby me I'll survive.

I'm thinking of hitting up Phuket so instead of BKK. Do any of you have suggestions on where to stay that's close to the "action"? Preferably a place that is girl friendly.

We'd be flying out of Chicago, so any advice on where the best places for layovers would be helpful. I was thinking a couple days in Hong Kong or somewhere in VN would be cool. Do you guys think its worth the trouble? Please correct me, but we'd need to hit BKK first before going south, correct?

My last request for you guys will really test your knowledge of the area. I'm wheelchair bound and can not walk at all. On the plus side, I'll be with 2-3 really strong guys and I'm a 4' lightweight so curbs and some stairs are no biggie. I am very sure this country is not well suited for wheelchairs, but if you know of accessible hotels, bars, etc to visit and see, please let me know.

I know the odds are stacked against me for travels to Asia, but I'll be damned if I don't get over there for those woman! Sorry for the long post, but your help would greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Meaty

...i am very sure this country is not well suited for wheelchairs, but if you know of accessible hotels....
correct, bangkok is a total nightmare for any wheelchair bound person, the pathways are narrow and congested, invariably with all manner of concrete obsticles in the way, usually forcing you into the road, and thats people walking, in a wheelchair its a lot worse.
i haven't been to phuket for a long time, so can't comment on the access there, but i for one would not want to goto patpong or nana in a wheelchair, nana does have an elevator though.
bar beers will be diffcult as they are all bar height, with bar stools, not so social if you are below in a chair.
you have to go up a series of stairs to get to heaven in [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900), but at least its not a bustling place.
not being wheelchair bound, my comments are based on my initial thoughts, unfortunately when i've been out i haven't specifically looked for access routes etc, so can't comment other than generally. having said that, if you have 4 mates with you, i'm sure you'll be able to go anywhere you want with a bit of carrying. good luck.

Dinghy

The easiest way to do a stopover in HKG is to use Cathay Pacific, then on to Phuket. You can actually return from BKK. The problem with ending up in VN is that you need to go onward from there and that would usually be an air trip (separate) unless you like busses (no rail)

The heat is worst in APRIL in LOS anyway and it tends to rain between June and September, but when dealing with A/C it doesn't make that much of a difference for the heat part, the wet is another story - built in outdoor sauna depending on how long between rain/sun.

The comments about being in a chair are correct - they don't "do" chairs well, but Pattaya has some folks wheeling around (bus transport is "difficult" at best - but at least beach road has a good walkway. Access to other than open air bars will be challenging mostly because of raised thresholds. Diana hotel group has a Pattaya hotel set up chair friendly or so their website claims (first floor access, other ammenities common in US for chairs)

Member #1214 - I answered your question in the Pattaya section in some detail.

But in short, I'd say that Phuket would be less of a problem by far than Bangkok, with Pattaya being somewhere in the middle.

I'm coming to Bkk on 9th August and was looking at a hotel called the Town Lodge on Sukhumvit 18.

It looks OK and the PDF brochure shows some pretty cool rooms, a nightclub called Toxic, and they say they're definitely girl friendly.

Does anybody know anything about this place.

I've stayed in Bkk hotels before that look OK in the brochure, but are pretty crapy in reality.

Also, is the Toxic nightclub a freelancers hangout, or do they have hostesses like some other places.

Any info would be really great.

....Town Lodge on Sukhumvit 18...Does anybody know anything about this place....
Copied from another forum, credit goes to Evil Penivel..
Here's a more up-to-date report (I'm staying at the Town Lodge right now, in a jacuzzi suite) :

It's fantastic value for money. The suite is very well equipped and decorated. All the standard features of a five-star room (really big and comfortable bed, perfect climate control, state-of-the-art TV/DVD system in the jacuzzi room as well as the bedroom, mini-bar, in-room safe, etc.), plus a jacuzzi with room for two or three people. All of the hotel staff- owner/manager, front-desk, maids and tuk-tuk driver, do everything possible to be helpful. The suite was fresh and spotlessly clean. The location at the end of Soi 18 was zero problem. The tuk-tuk was perfect during the day and at night I only needed to walk a few minutes before a cab came by (there's a lot of cab traffic to and from the Rembrandt Hotel also on Soi 18). In any case, it's not a huge walk, I did it a few times from the Asoke station just to help get in my 10,000 steps.

Also, because it's a smaller hotel and so guest-friendly, the TGs I was with really liked it. They felt very much "at home" without any ugly farang matrons to give them mean looks. The jacuzzi was a big plus for them.
I saw a standard room as well. It's simpler and smaller, of course, but has everything that is needed at an exceptionally reasonable price.

I usually stay in places like the Landmark, Banyan Tree or Emporium Suites because my company pays the bill and sometimes I need the facilities offered by a big hotel that caters to business travellers. But for the fun side of BKK, the Town Lodge is in fact a better choice.

I'll be back!

the Toxic nightclub...Any info would be really great.
Credit goes to The Big Mango website...article written 17th April 2006...
Typically when people go nightlife hunting they tend to stick to the same spots. Meaning for clubs you might head out to RCA or Sukhumvit Soi 11 to hit Qbar or Bed and for the naughty nightlife people tend to only think of Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy, Sukhumvit Soi 33 or Patpong but yet Bangkok is a big city with many a watering hole hidden here and there. So one of the things we hope to bring to the blog is showing you other spots off the beaten path so to say. So here we go. Our first Trip Report.

Sukhumvit Soi 18 is not known for too much but some people may stay at the Rembrandt Hotel or are familiar with the Mango Approved travel agent DTC Travel which is located on Soi 18. Some time ago one of my friends mentioned a new hotel that had opened at the very end of Soi 18 called the Town Lodge. One of the new entrants in the boutique hotel market but with affordable rates and a hip little bar called Toxic. Last night I ventured down the Soi to check it out.

First off I suggest getting dropped off at the end of the Soi closest to Sukhumvit and walking to the hotel thus getting a feel for the Soi and the other restaurants, cafes and massage places that it also contains. Walking a Soi is really the only way to know what is there and many times it is how you will dicover a favorite restuarant or maybe even an apartment. To get to Town Lodge though you need to walk to the very end of the Soi and at the end on the right is Town Lodge. Cruise into the Hotel lobby and take a left to hit the bar (Toxic) or a right to hit the bathroom. More on the bathroom later.

Okay. Unless it is a fri or sat my guess is the place will not be too packed but either way there are some good reasons to check Toxic out. They got a great menu of alcoholic beverages including some good wines, quality bottles behind the bar and generous pours. The second reason to visit Toxic is to appreciate how much thought went into the design of the bar. It is just very cool looking. The lighting, the use of metal, concrete, the wall decor coupled with a nice sound and monitor system make for a great little spot to chill. So many bars in Thailand have had zero thought put into the design or succumb to the pub/tavern look that I grow so weary of. Toxic looks cool and you can tell the owner put some time into it. So after you have had a few drinks be sure to head over to the bathroom where the style parade continues. The bathrooms are just super cool.

Yes - like any bar in Bangkok Toxic does have a few girls. I think the total count is 5 and they accept lady drinks and can be bar fined but I would not call them bargirls in the typical sense. They are much more laid back, easy to chat with and are not expecting anything more than a drink coupled with some light conversation. It was nice to hang out and chat with some ladies without the typical mamasan hustle and bustle or the feeling that if you did not buy more drinks or pay the bar soon that you would suddenly be sitting alone. Sure this is not a big meat market and I do not think it ever will be but I enjoy finding something a little different from time to time and meeting some new, less jaded, ladies to chat with.

So when in town, looking for something new, head on over to Sukhumvit Soi 18 and cruise into Toxic for a relaxing drink. If u get bored or can't find the right vibe you can easily walk over to Soi 20(more on that later) and Soi 22 which is full of bars. I plan on talking more about some of my spots around there in future posts.

I saw the same Cathay Pacific deal, and I just booked it from Nov. 28-Dec. 21. But I will only be in Bankok for 4-6 days of that time, so I will likely stay in either the Majestic Grande or Livingstones. I will do some side trips to Hong Kong/Macau, Pattaya, and maybe even into Mainland China or Vietnam.

Frankly, If you're on vacation, I wouldn't spend one continuous month in Bangkok, as there are too many other great places to see in Thailand or a short side trip away. Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya are all worth seening, as well as Angkor Wat (Siem Reap, Cambodia), And there is worthwhile hobbying in all of those locations.

New bangkok to be open on Sep 28 after being delay so many time becasuse
of problems , It might to a good idea to avoid the new airport the first 2 week
until they get their problems take care of , I remember few yr ago when hong
kong new airport open it take them a week to fix all the computer and the
luggage system problems .

They will move all the equiment from the old airport to the new one in 7 hr time period and I don't see how they can do this.

Equipment is reference to most likely the ground items. Beltloaders, baggage carts, etc... of each airline which can be easily be moved in a 7 hour period by each airline.

Hello all,

I can't wait. Lees than a month to go and I will be back in the land of smiles. I will be arriving on the 23rd and will be in BKK until the 27th visiting some old friends, then off to Pattaya until Sep 13th. Would love to meet up with some of my fellow mongers, either in BKK or Pattaya. This will be my third trip in the last two years. Still have not found most of the places you all talk about but I am willing to keep looking. If anyone wants to meet for a beer and to swap stories or show each other around let me know.

Take care and see you soon

Hello all,

I'd like to visit Thailand in mid-late November. I didn’t get a chance to read through all the information on the forum yet. So I just wanted to check if it is a good time to visit the country, if the selection of girls is good or there might be a better time for the visit. I appreciate any feedback.

Ron,

November is the start of high season in LOS, the climate is less hot than in March-April, there shouldn't be any rain no more and there will always be plenty of girls available.

If you don't mind rain, Mai-October might be a very good time for you if the only purpose of your journey are the girls. This is low season in LOS as most tourists try to avoid the rainy season, hotels might be cheaper and you will have a wider choice of girls, you got less competition to say so.

I personally don't have any preferences, LOS is a very good holiday destination around the year and every season has it's charm.

Hi All,

This forum have been great to me, got quite a bit of information the first time around when I went to Bangkok, but still feel like didn't get the BEST deals. So, here's a few questions I have for all you frequent traveller/hobbiest.

1) Where do I get the best deal/package for a week or so? I mean from the airport? From HK? Any recommended travel agent?

2) Which hotel is recommended? Last time I went, booked into some hotel from airport. Then found out it was miles away from sukumvhit. Then changed to grand president (great pics), but when I got there. Room was pretty much crappy.

3) for L/T: any safety measures? Not to be ignorant or anything, but there's really no reason for me to trust the girls. Do you guys lock up everything? Blah blah blah? How to do it?

4) Most importantly. Is there any body doing a hmmm. Say, daytime site tour and night time 'adult' tour?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thinking of going around hmm. Feb?

Thanks all.

Fellas,

Let me state this for the 1 billionth time. Ron 1, the selection of girls is ALWAYS! good in BKK and Pattaya. Regardless, if it's rainy season, Cobra Gold, Songkran, a holiday, too hot, too cold (ha!), May, December, June, etc., etc......You will have a good time and will find a gorgeous Thai lady to your liking. As beautiful as ever.

The biggest difference to me during low season is less people, lower airfare, and lower hotel prices. I find that to be a very positive situation.

Have fun.

R2D2: All you have to do is book a hotel online such as Nana hotel, get a taxi there, check in, lock up your valuables, get them to leave their IDs with security, check out tours to crocodile farms, Royal Palaces and what not in the morning. A no brainer. If you need a guide, plenty will charge you for it. But you should not really need any. Buy a guide book, take taxis to the places you have to see, wear a condom, wash often, check the minibar, tip modestly, watch out for the ladyboys, pay after the deed is done, start with a few short timers to get the feel for Thai pussy, buy plenty of Viagra. When you feel confident, demand the kinky stuff and service with a smile.

1) where do i get the best deal/package for a week or so? i mean from the airport? from hk? any recommended travel agent?
you can find air and hotel packages from many tour agencies outside thailand. not sure where you are from, but since you mention hk i am sure you can get some there. there are no cheap packages from the bkk airport.

2) which hotel is recommended? last time i went, booked into some hotel from airport. then found out it was miles away from sukumvhit. then changed to grand president (great pics), but when i got there. room was pretty much crappy.
there are many online reservation systems. the one i use is www.asiatravel.com. i have found them very reliable and they list their hotels by star category, price and location. generally, you want to stay on sukhumvit, between soi 0 and soi 33. between soi 0 and 15, there are plenty of action to choose from. read previous reports on nana, grace, thermae, gullivers, [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900) etc. etc. generally rates of us$50 and higher will get you good rooms. and you can ask them if the hotel is gf or not.

3) for l/t: any safety measures? not to be ignorant or anything, but there's really no reason for me to trust the girls. do you guys lock up everything? blah blah blah? how to do it?
the best bet is to lock up all your valuables, money, passport, tickets etc in the room/hotel space and just keep enough bahts for the night. 4-5k is usually more than enough.

4) most importantly. is there any body doing a hmmm. say, daytime site tour and night time 'adult' tour?
you can always hire a private taxi/tour guide from your hotel travel desk or a local ta to take you around. packaged tours are a cheaper alternative. since you already know about the night life here there is no need for a guide. [/quote]

R2D2: There is only one possible deal of interest to you. That is a deal from where you are with flights included. If you can't get a great deal that way, break it up as I explained.

The Soi Suk hotels are 3 star and the sheets often contain spunk stains. This means they are not usually in the inclusive package deal you buy outside of Thailand. So book a room online from Nana or whatever you like. Nana's security is very good so your valuables will be quite safe. You will need a day or two recovering, checking out Biergarden and other sheep shag stops.

Nana, as an example, have a tour guide service in the foyer. You can go the the Rover Kwai, see a few stupid temples, palaces, shit like that. No need to bring a hooker with you as they would be bored and would prefer a shopping mall and a big plate of cockroaches and Sinha beer to wash it down.

Doing it this way saves a bundle and gives you a lot more flexibility. If you do take the Martians' route, read up about getting from the airport to the hotel as that is normally the trickiest event.

Martians
08-22-06, 14:54
Nana is just across from Nana Plaza and there are stacks of bars just outside it. Lots of peasant hookers in the car park and the hotel's disco too so you will get all the night life you need without paying anybody. Most blokes you meet in the bars etc are wide and will put you straight.

You REALLY don't like Thailand, do you......
If you were Buddhist, it would mean you believe in reincarnation. And that would be ironic, as you most probably would be coming back to this world as a "peasant hooker" or a "slapper", who works in a "sheep shag stop"

Martians
08-23-06, 02:21
R2, To use Nana Hotel as an example, thye have a security desk beside the elevator. There are usually two guards there who take the IDs off the hookers before they go up to the rooms. If you look on the wall behind the guards, you will see a rogues' gallery of hookers who stole or whatever. All Thais must carry the ID with them so if the hooker does not have her ID, she is probably a danger to you. Just ask gently of she has it before you go back to the hotel.

If all you want is mindless shagging in endless positions, getting these ladies to eat your arse and fulfill your other fantasies, Nana is probably the best place. Because it is so popular, you have to book early to get a reservation. Also, as there is high demand for it, they don't have to be fussy about changing bed sheets or whacking the cockroaches, who might be reincarnated trolls for all I know.

1ball: There are not many Buddhists on Mersey-side. Too many Muslims though. As you can see, a pile of them are up for trying to blow up planes. So it is a sensitive issue right now. OK?

Guys,

I will be in Pattaya from about 4 Sept to the end of the month. Mostly in The Dogs Bollox if anyone wants to share a few beers and slappers. No offence to Duniawala and other c jockeys, but we like Western company only. I don't really give a bollox but the gaffer does. We're organising a few slappers to bring back to Liverpool and London but we have to testdrive the merchandise first. I'm a small guy, about 5'6" built like a matchbox on its side. I generally wear the Everton colours even though most of the lads in there are Chelsea heads. I suaully stand at the bar, far end from the door.

Anyway, if anyone is interested and clued in, that's where and when you will find me, my mates and the slappers we use and abuse.

Pattaya v Bangkok: Go to Pattaya but if you are a boring arsehole, go to Bangkok and help the dickheads there cope. Real men go to Pattaya. Excepting the AC/DC scumbags who go to Boyztown and Soi 6 of course.

Soi 6? (Sure, you are correct about boyztown - "hi sailor... new in town?", go-go boys etc etc)

The ladies of the second type population on 6 seem to be in concentrated around the cross over alley between 6 and 6-1 as near as I can tell (some ladyboy bar there - I just SNARL as I walk by - they have learned to leave me alone) might be a few others bit since I'm not looking, I don't notice - the particular bar I was describing is a bit toward beach (10 or 20 m?) on the left side (toward beach) just past the cross over. They tend to be a bit agressive without "mai chawp poo chai" (no krup intentionally) - besides, they don't even look that good

("I don't like guys" is what it means if your Thai is limited) you will be gone by the time I get there - 2nd week in OCT

I like the t-shirt - good guy goes to heaven, bad guy goes to PATTAYA

I personally wanted to apologize to those on the boards, and to Duniawala in particular, for having defended Martians when Duniawala took a couple of shots at him earlier over in the Pattaya thread. At the time, I thought that Martians had simply had some of his jokes mis-interpreted. Obviously, I was wrong - I hadn't recognized what a jerk and a racist he genuinely is. My mistake, but his ongoing "contributions" over the past day or so have eliminated any confusion I may have had. It won't happen again.

Looking forward to seeing all you "non racists" who speak about trailer trash and English guys taking it up the "ass" (1ball, try to improve your insults beyond the gay bit.) Go into the bars I mentioned and, guess what. Most of the women are Thai. Duniawala is the guy with hangups about his origins. But he is not the only guy here with a hangup.

Traveler1234, you make a good point about moving this to the fightclub but they turn all the threads into chit chat threads. Just look at Giotto's own thread or recent posts on the Bangkok thread. Same jokes, same circus, same clowns.

As regards Everton, guess why almost all bars in Pattaya carry Premiership football? Because people love it. You are the exception. And Duniawala who, well... they are his hanguyps, not mine. So waht hobbies have ye, besides cyber wanking? Pattaya is great for golf and much more but maybe that takes a little effort and the thought of buring off a few calories is too scary.

Duniawala with the hangups tells us "one can't win against an uneducated, racist redneck who thinks all women are cum buckets". Maybe he will come along and educate us. And all slappers are not cum buckets. Some are also connect 4 players.

See you all in September . I'll be easy to spot. And Traveler1234, bring as many friends as you like. Reading the replies, I am sure many guys have plenty of male friends anyway.

Dinghy, as regards Soi 6, if we take Lady Gladiator's downside estimate of 20% of the hookers being ladyboys, that still adds up to a lot of ladyboys. Plus Boyztown of course. If you want to know where they get their customers from, check out the posters here who seem fixated on them.

Now I better hit the books so I can be an educated, penniless twit instead of being the hnadsome and lovely gift to the slappers and cum buckets of Thailand that I am.

Don't forget guys, the end of the bar, small, stocky and usually in blue.

Don't forget guys, the end of the bar, small, stocky and usually in blue.I find Martians recent set of posts kind of interesting. Not the content, but manner and direction his posts try to instigate drama and sway emotion.

Of course, you could take his posts at face value and just judge the fellow as being arrogant, judgemental and worthy of a brick-in-the-head to teach him polite manners.

But it occurrs to me that if I were a sneaky bastard with a vendetta against someone, I might go on a board like this to work up the locals. Then when the intended victim gets to town, the poor guy gets blindsided with a decidedly unfriendly reception.

It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Cheers!

If booking package from HK, there are numerous travel agents with good 1 week deals to BKK and all over LOS.
Try Morning Star travel agency--good overall package prices and reliable. They usually book with 4-5 star hotels in LOS.

You will catch me for definite in The Dogs Bollox on 9th September when we host the Reds in the local derby. It’s an early kick-off so it is perfect timing from the POV of Pattaya. There should be a good crew there for it. Remember what I look like as there will be lots of Toffees around. After that we have Wigan at home on 16th, and the Magpies away on 24th. Best time to catch me is before or after the derby.

We’re up against Spurs today so it was nice to see this ad in Craigslist. http://london.craigslist.org/w4m/197497707.html At least this slapper is honest. All she wants is a fuck and a slap on the arse to send her on her way. Craigslist makes funny reading because of all the pathetic scammers in it. They are really sad cases.

Hey. I’m still waiting for my other report to be put into the Report of Distinction thread. Come on guys. Make yourselves useful.

I hope these new travel restrictions on toothpaste and the like will be lifted soon. But there are so many mad tossers about. WTF was this wanker thinking about?

http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/08/24/fake.bomb.ap/index.html Or this looper”: http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/25/dynamite.plane/index.html I’m ok though as my mom lets me take dildos on the plane and I never pack dynamite. I am a bit worried about having to leave my hair gel behind.

With all the security bullshit in airports, it is good to know that some passengers are still finding time for romance. My mate was sitting at a bar at Heathrow recently and noticed an attractive air stewardess sitting next to him and thought to himself: "Wow, she's gorgeous. I wonder which airline she works for."

Hoping to woo her, he leaned towards her and uttered the Delta Airlines slogan, "love to fly and it shows?"

She gave him a blank, confused stare and then another airline slogan popped into his head: He leaned towards her again and whispered, "something special in the air?"

She gave him the same confused look.

He mentally kicked himself, and scratched Singapore Airlines off the list. Next, he tried the Thai Airways slogan, "Smooth as silk".

This time, the woman turned on him: "What the f*** do you want?"

The man smiled, then slumped back in his chair and said: "Aaahhhh. It's Ryanair

felly, we’re going well now so don’t spoil the party. second to united (until pompey play on monday). speaking of which, i like ‘arry and i wonder how pompey will do now that he has a few skin divers (fivers) to spend. he was the real deal last season. i think this season will be better and united might even make a race of it at the top. the gunners have shot their load.

we’ve been on our plates of meat (feet) here all day. even had to wear a tin of fruit (suit) today for a meeting, not a court appearance. i’m knackered/jacked/tired. time for bo peep/sleep.

for all the wooden planks (yanks), chuffed means really happy. i’m trying to write this so ye can read it. not like a telly/tv/television/tube script from brookside or eastenders. looks like we have some real tossers/wankers about.

not to worry. we are second from the top and i got my rocks off tonight.

see ye all for the derby. but only if ye have something to bring to the party. if not, boyztown is a few sois down and soi 6 a few sois up.

cheers mates, lads, laddies, chums, gents, guys, ladies, fellas, mates, old beans. and everyone else too.

that was a great win against spurs today. see ye all on the 24th if not before.

Well, after months and months of thinking about it I finally made it official to my boss that I will be taking my early retirement. No point in staying and putting up with all the B.S. sacraficing my body for a company that has already given my retirement to the PBGC which I can't collect until I'm 62 without taking a big hit and the final blow no medical coverage when I retire!
What's the point!

Set my last day for work and made my plane reservation today! Appoximately another 52 days and I will start my new and second half of my life! I can't complain much but I hoping things are better this second half! Decided I'm going to treat myself by staying in BKK for 36 hours before heading to Pattaya to spend with the family.

Agenda, booked a business class seat will arrive around midnight the 25th of October. Next day foot massage, sex, 2 hour oil massage, sex, 2 hour traditional massage, sex, food, sex, and to top that I heading to The Divana Spa for the 3 hour steam, scrub, massage and bath package to finish off the day. Stop off at the Bus Stop for some food and then Angel Disco for a nightcap! The next day wake up early to head to Pattaya to start my new life as good boy, poor, but hopefully a happy one!

Gentlemen,

I have had the pleasure of several visits to Bangkok in the past, and will be there again for the better part of a week in early October, however I find myself heading there unexpectedly next week. Due to a variety of circumstances, I will probably only have ONE night, lets say 9:00pm until 9:00am the following morning to myself. So wanting to make the best possible use of my lone 12 hours, I put it to the experts for your studied opinions; if you had only one night alone in Bangkok, how would you spend it to maximize your precious amount of time? I've been to all the usual haunts, and can go there again, but I would enjoy your opinions on this weighty matter. Thanks in advance. My report will follow my return.

Gentlemen,

...if you had only one night alone in Bangkok, how would you spend it to maximize your precious amount of time?...Lancelot,

Personally, I like to start out clean and smelling good. To prepare yourself for the evening, I'd suggest a nice massage to clear your head and make sure your "other" head doesn't do all the thinking and negotiating. Use it as a chance to relax the muscles and freshen up.

From there go to a place or two that has some friendly girls. Chat with a few, but don't make any commitments. The idea is to buy yourself some insurance in case you don't find a girl to your liking later on. The night is still young.

Afterwards, its up to you. If you're in the mood for sensory overload, head to Nana. Or head to the smaller Soi Cowboy if you want to take it down a notch. If that's not your style you could head over to Soi 33 and the painter's pubs. Personally, I enjoy the last option most. Things are slower there, but the girls have more time to talk with you and you don't have to shout at the top of your lungs to carry on a conversation. Plus you can make it more interactive by playing a few games of pool with them. The more you know about the girl the less likely she will surprise you unpleasantly later on.

If things turn out well, then off you go back to your place for an evening of fun. If you're not sure of the girl, then go for ST with the option of extending to LT if things go well. That way you can get her out of there if she turns into a psycho-b*tch. If you find a lot of chemistry between you and the girl and you feel you have a good sense of her character, then go LT.

If things turn out badly in your carousing, fall back on your insurance and check on the girls you first chatted up. You should be able to find someone to party with for the evening. If not, well, there is always the Nana parking lot and the surrounding area.

Cheers!

I'm perplexed by your post/query, especially since you mention having visited LOS many times in the past. What exactly are you looking for when you mean most bang for the buck.

No doubt you know the pricing at the usual haunts, etc. You know landing at 9 pm means getting to Sukhumvit area hotel by 10:30, on the street by 11 pm, you know when the MP's close, when the bars close in the pink zone and Soi Cowboy, the usual Nana parking lot pick up. And you know to leave for airport by 6:30 am to catch 9 am flight

What else can we do to help you out ????

geez, i can imagine the answers you'll get to this open-ended question. :)

how about this: make a beeline to rca to have a few laps at the ptt speedway karting track, then maybe across the street or down to the other end for some dancing, or maybe a short taxi ride to down asok to cowboy, or to soi 33, or maybe a quiet pint or two at bulls head, or up to the sky bar on top of state tower, or... that's the whole point of bangkok - there's so much to do. but what is that *you* want to do?

Hey bro,
For one thing, you are reading the wrong thread. You been to BKK few times then dont need to look at BKK. Suggest you take a look at Pattaya thread only--many good post there to give you an idea.

In General: the differences , Patts is cheaper overall (hotel, gals etc) expect to pay about 30% less overall.

Bkk is more about the MPs.
Patts is more about beer bars and go-go's. (only a few MPs)
Both places have plenty of FL gals and discos.

Bkk have more to do besides sex (more things to see and do)
Patts is all about sex--day or nite, along with a somewhat ok beach. Not much sights.

Hope this helps.

I thought you could buy as much duty free alchohol at Thai airport on way out as you liked (depending what you can get away with taking on board).

If you are going to USA or England, then perhaps not.

The problem is how much you are permitted to take into the destination country, without incurring tax penalties, no?

Duty free is OK if it gets delivered to the aircraft from the shop

But you better not be changing aircraft and heading to the US/GB

I will be heading to Bangkok for about 3 weeks (arriving on the 20th). Needless to say I am both excited and mightily confused. First, I live in the now decimated lands around Washington, DC (mourn the amps) and cannot wait to get back into the game. I will probably try to sample as many of the delights as I can. But, for LT, would it be better to do take out from a massage parlor, try to hook up with a semi-pro at one of the biergartens, or use an escort service (or all 3)? I will be there from the 20th until the 10th of October (Giotto, I just requested room info), and would appreciate any advice/contacts/etc.

Fox Two
09-11-06, 02:03
I will be heading to Bangkok for about 3 weeks...

For LT services, I recommend getting to know the girl as much as possible before committing.

For that reason I would avoid escort services. You have no idea what kind of attitude and character the girl will have when she arrives. Also consider that there is a chance she will look different from her listed photo. Sure, you'll get a happy ending, but the quality of the experience is too variable.

As for massage parlors, I think that might be a little time consuming. Once you pick your girl, you are stuck with her for 1.5-2 hours. It may be a good experience or it may be bad. If it's bad, you can't quickly bail out and leave.

Try one of the pubs on Soi 33 or their equivalent elsewhere. Have a drink or two with a girl and see if there is chemistry. If there is, you're in luck. If there isn't, go to another nearby pub and repeat. You'll get the opportunity to meet several girls and make efficient use of your time. Try to negotiate a ST with the option of LT. This way you can cut the girl free if things don't go well.

For a faster pace, you can also try your luck at the Go-Gos at Nana and Soi Cowboy. Use the same idea as above, but bear in mind the girls at these places tend to push for ST over LT.

If you are new to BKK, I would recommend booking a few nights at Giotto's. Giotto and many like minded individuals inhabit that place and can certainly steer you in the right direction. The advantage of doing this is that you have something of a support group to help and advise you as you figure out what works best for you. From there, you can choose to stay or book a room at another place.

Please note, this is just my personal experience and I have no affiliation with Giotto or his fan club.

Cheers,

Thought I would write my long pending report here my trip from Malaysia to Thailand overland.

Most of the info might be preset over the net, but some of my personal observations in terms of mongering.

From the Malaysian border town, Buttorworth took a share taxis available. Crossing the immigration is smooth unless you look the shady type, or asian or carrying huge loads of luggage who are stopped and checked for some time.

Reached the Thailand side small border town named Sadoa, if I remember correctly. The action of mongering starts from here itself. As I was walking around to look for a cheap mode of transport to Hatyai, here comes a man on a motorcycle and in broken english offers to take me to his travel agency where he has a taxi service. I hop on his bike and guess where we stop. In front of a massage parlour.

He says can just take a look, no complusion, but I refuse since wanted to reach Hatyai fast to catch the evening train to Bangkok.

Next he stops at another place somewhat away from the town in a small place. He whistles and a guy comes to the lobby, nods and goes in. Next I am asked to look on the terrace there come the youngest of the working girls I have even seen in my life. All looking barely 14-15.

I firmly told that guy to drop me at the main road, or am walking back myself. He starts laughing and then tell me to hop back on and he will drop me to a taxi. Phew, we reach the main road and this guy says 'no problem', can get anything and everything. Out of curiosity I ask him the rates, and he says in Malaysian currency its 100RM for MP girls and 300RM-400RM for the young ones.

Well I get a taxi for Hatyai, thank the man for the ride. It took around 2 hrs ride to reach Hatyai, as the driver stopped at a eating place. Hatyai is like any other town, but my taxi guy drove me around places of mongering, and found there is a street full of MP's girls standing outside itself. You can easily find the details on this forum, for the name of the road, prices etc. I had to book the evening train, else was tempted to try out this.

Well there is my exp, the moment you enter Thailand, the action starts right from the border itself.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I certainly hope that the author or somebody else will post a link to this report in the Reports of Distinction thread. Please Click Here (http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/announcement-reportsofdistinction.php?) for more information.

Appreciate if you can verify and provide reference?

And also talked with my office and sr execs this morning and they're still 'yawning'.

There is no travel warning for Thailand.

Here is the current info for visa's to Thailand. However, with the coup, there may be changes forthcoming:

THAILAND - *Passport required. Tourists staying no longer than 30 days do not need a visa. For longer stays, obtain a visa in advance. Visa requires 1 application form, 2 photos, postage for return of passport by mail, and appropriate fee. Transit visa, for stay of up to 30 days, $20 per entry fee, or tourist visa, for stay of up to 60 days, $25 per entry fee. Extensions may be applied for in Thailand. Transit and tourist visas require copy of airline ticket or itinerary. Business visas, valid up to 90 days, require $20 entry fee or $40 fee for multiple entry and company letter (on letterhead) stating purpose of visit, name of company, and address of counterpart in Thailand. (Note: All visa fees are payable in cash or money order, if applying in person, or by money order only, if applying by mail. For those members that are interested I noted that the Australian government upgraded its travel warning for Thailand after the coup and for those that are interested here is the link:

http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/Thailand

A quick summary of the travel warning, the Australian government suggests that travellers revise their plans to travel to Thailand or if they must travel to stay alert and stay away from areas of unrest.

Pesonally I am relying on the field reports from the forum members that are currently on the ground (so to speak) in Thailand as I prepare for my trip to Thailand in a couple of weeks time. I have relied on the members reports quite a number of times now and found them to be the ultimate source of information for social and 'recreational' activities.

As a resident of Bangkok, I've seen virtually no change. Sure, last night I saw two uniformed soldiers at a street corner on Thanon Silom when I walked backed from a great seafod meal at Somboon Suriwong, but all seems quite peaceful, wherever I go.

Of course, as with all things in life, YMMV.

Fewer tanks in Bangkok as Thai army reduces presence

Fewer tanks patrolled the streets of Bangkok Thursday as the Thai army reduced their presence at key government facilities, but troops were not to be completely withdrawn, an army officer said.

Four tanks remained at Government House early Thursday, compared to about 10 the previous day, and there were fewer armed soldiers on guard, a day and a half after the military seized power in a bloodless coup.

"As of now we have only two companies of troops -- some 50 to 60 - deployed at Government House but total withdrawal is up to the army commander because there is not yet complete trust in the situation," Lieutenant Romklao Thuwatham told AFP.

For the cynics, i didn't include the 2nd half of the article as i believe it creates unneccesary rumours and possible fear.

L.A.The Australian Government is probably ill informed and overly pessimistic.

They have to take a very conservative line in case are blamed for not doing so. Thailand is doubtless made safer by the Coup IMHO. Unrest is likely to decrease partciularly in the South. Of course I am no expert. But as an Australian here in Bangkok, I intend to ignore the Aus Govt. completely.

So definite reports can be lodged then.

Anyway you will find out when you land which airport you are in.

Whether officially or unofficially, the new airport is already open. I just arrived there today on AirAsia, even though I assumed I would be landing at Don Muang where my flight to Phnom Phen originated last Friday.

That's right. I purchased a round trip on AirAsia from BKK to PNH returning PNH to BKK, but my return flight was rerouted to the new Suvarnabhumi Airport which is supposed to inherit the IATA airport code BKK from Don Muang.

If this sounds confusing just wait, there's more. AirAsia failed to notify me the return flight was changed to arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Luckily, this change didn't cause me any trouble because my trip terminated in Bangkok, but the guy next to me was not as lucky.

He was supposed to transfer at Don Muang to a flight bound for Frankfurt. I didn't stick around to see if he made the flight or not, but my guess is that he didn't have time to get his luggage and transfer to Don Muang via Bus or Taxi to catch his flight to Frankfurt. I hope his luck changes for the better soon.

Suvarnabhumi Airport will be an excellent airport when it is completed, but from the looks of it, I don't think the new airport will be completed for at least one more year. It's a joke in its present state and it's open to boot!

Upon arrival the plane pulled into a stall and I was enamored to see a ramp from the terminal extending out to our plane. This immediately put me in a good mood because I figured we'd be walking directly into the terminal instead of climbing aboard a bus and then driven to the terminal as is normally the case. But no . . .

We did walk up the ramp as if we were walking directly into the terminal, but as soon as we got to the end of the ramp we were directed outside and down some stairs to a waiting bus. You see, although the ramp was finished and working, the inside of the terminal that the ramp is connected to is not yet open. hahahaha! hahahaha! ting tong tee soot nai rohk

We all climbed into the bus and were driven approximately half way around the airport (which is huge by the way), where we were then released into a terminal that was 80% complete at the most.

We followed the signs to passport control, but there were no agents at the desks so everyone just continued on through until a security guard shouted at us to go back and follow the LONG corridor farther down until we found a passport control section that was manned. Eventually we found it and went through as normal. Sheesh!

There were hardly any people at the airport so I didn't try to find a cheap taxi and went straight to the taxi stand instead. The fare for my ride home cost a total of 350 Baht including toll charges and the 50 Baht airport taxi fee. I normally fork out around 180 Baht to get to my Lang Suan apartment from Don Muang for comparison.

So friends! I wish you all the best of luck with your BKK arrival. :)

In case you decided to chicken out last week and cancel your visit to LOS, note announcement below.

Thailand, Postcoup
By AJA CARMICHAEL
September 26, 2006; Page D3

Following the military coup in Thailand, some airlines have revised ticket policies for those flying to and from Bangkok, while other airlines issued internal memos on how to deal with travelers.

UAL Corp.'s United Airlines is waiving charges for flight cancellations, rescheduling and other fees for passengers with reservations booked to Bangkok International Airport on or before Sept. 19. A United spokesman says the airline issued policy changes after hearing of the coup, in which military leaders seized control while then-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was abroad. United operates one daily flight to Bangkok from Tokyo's Narita International Airport.

Travelers have until midnight of their departure date to make provisions. Those scheduled to travel last week and through today are advised to reschedule trips to depart by Oct. 30. Plans to extend policy changes may occur as Thailand's situation unfolds, said a United spokesman.

Cathay Pacific Airways' passengers who reserved flights Sept. 19 or before were allowed to rebook and reroute trips without any additional charges. The airline operates three flights daily to Bangkok from Los Angeles and one from San Francisco; it operates two flights daily from New York to Hong Kong, which connects to Bangkok.

John Lamp, a spokesman for British Airways, said the airline didn't issue a public release, but sent an internal memo permitting guests who no longer wished to travel to Thailand to reschedule and reroute their flights. The memo stated travelers choosing to rebook flights to original destinations were allowed up to two weeks to make changes. Other stipulations included passengers completing travel within three months from initial travel dates.

Northwest Airlines, which has operated a daily flight from Tokyo to Bangkok since 1987, didn't revise ticket polices but told employees to follow developments.

I spent some time in LOS in February of this year and arrived in Pattaya from Bangkok on some type of Buddhist Holiday. I don't remember the name of the holiday but that night all of the go go's and many of the clubs were closed. A number of the bars were open however were less lit than usual and there was no problem getting a drink.

Many of the stores on Walking St. were closed but there were still a number of street vendors working. While there were less girls than usual there were still a fair number to be had. I did meet one girl who I ended up keeping for the duration of my trip so it worked out pretty well.

If memory serves me this was around the middle of February but I do not recall the exact date.

Anyone know what holiday this was?

If problems with baggage conveyors and four minutes to check in instead of two were the biggest problems, then Suvarnabhumi had a smoother first day than many new airports.

Last Friday, we sat on the ground for more than two hours before takeoff on a flight to London from Newark Liberty, then waited 45 minutes on the ground before de-planing at Gatwick. On the return flight, I had to wait nearly 60 minutes before checking in, even though I was in the priority queue for elite frequent flyers in business class. I only had carry-on luggage, but a colleague who'd checked bags had to wait nearly an hour to get them back.

Clearly, the situation on the first day at Suvarnabhumi was not the total chaos many had predicted.

Hi All,

I will be arriving in Bangkok on the 26th night/27th early morning in December and staying there till the 2nd. The new wifey will be along for the ride though I easily expect to look out for some side action. I ahe read and re-read all the posts here, but for all the conflicting reports and stuff can't figure out the following queries:

1) I would like to do 3 nights in Bangkok and 3 in Phuket or Pattaya. I have read all the reports, but am still undecided between Pattaya and Phuket. Can someone who has been to both places, please enlighten me to the feel of the two places so I can decide, keeping in mind that I will need to give time and the place for my wife to go shop, enjoy the beach, nightlife, etc.

2) Again conflicting reports, so please advise which areas are suitable for 3 star hotels or the kind on Bangkok. I am getting a great deal on Eastin hotel. My budget is ideally 50 US $ a night but can easily stretch it for a really good hotel. Ideally the hotel will be somewhere near shopping areas for the wife so I can run off for some well-advised side action.

3) Kindly advise regarding Pattaya or Phuket hotels as well with the same criteria as for Bangkok.

I realise a lot of reports are already available and I have spent the best part of the last two days reading up on the same, but I am still very very confused. But would like to book now, since it seems to give me better rates anyway, for the flights too.

this airport is huge. we landed on time, and it is impressive. once you get off, put on your walking shoes. obviously some flights will park closer to the actual terminal, but they put us east of east bumfuck. i must have walked a mile, there are however moving belst which speed things up. passport control was 3 minutes, customs non existant, and then the fun started.
went downstairs to the taxi stand, 100 people waiting......not one taxi.
up to departures, jumped in a cab after confirming he was going to use the emter, and we are off. the tollway is 65 bt, and it took exactly 20 minutes to end up on sukhumvit, same place as usual. 50 minutes later, i pulled up in front of livingstones :(

total cost 300 bt including toll.

giotto had given me other directions, but this guy did not speak a word of english, so i suffered in silence.

so there you have it, a bit of info on the ew airport. off for a massage.....

Hey Buds,

Taking my first trip to LOS and Fils, leave Oct. 18 and already I cant sleep because I am so excited! Have been looking forward to this adventure for at least ten years. The last nine spent in Costa Rica pursuing lovely latinas. Always had an affinity for asian chicks so now I AM READY !

Arrive BKK on Oct 19th. One night Bangkok (Nana Hotel, Majestic Suites never responded) then eleven nites in Pattaya at Residence Garden Suites, a bit away from the central action but I do like to sleep at least a couple of times a week! I think I can manage the mile or so to get to the action! Cant wait to try a "Soapie". Then back to BKK on the 31st and Phil Air to Manila.

Booked 6 nites at the 950 Condotel in AC, splurged and got a suite, sounds like it is right on the cusp of Perimeter Road and Fields Ave (could easily be mistaken).

Then I meet honey ko, who I met on Cb. Went thru at least 50 girls to find a good and wholesome keeper. Hope and pray she never finds out what I am up to! This is where I need some advice: Peninsula or Shangrila ? Just one night there (cant do the $200/nite route easily). Need expert input as I want her to have a wonderful time there as do I.

Will spend 10 days to 14 days with my sweety. I am thinking Palawan. Any input would be welcomed! Not excited about Borocay because of over-commercialization and the oil spill. Any input?

Then I am left with 8-10 days to explore. I have 3 girls lined up in Cebu and 4 in Davao. What would u pick as a rendevouz point? Help?

November 28th I sky back to BKK and would like to stay there a few nites and hit Soi Cowboy etc. Then up to Chiang Mai and do an elephant trek and maybe pick up a Burmese ruby or two (been doing my homework and pretty sure can tell real from glass or enhanced). Still leaves me a little time before I head back to shit city on December 14th.

Would greatly appreciate any help or input that could be of help...have a part time wingman but at one point he is heading to Viet Nam on business so I am open to any constructive advice.

Thanks in advance and would like to say that the atmosphere on this board is superlative to others that I frequent. Thanks again.

I solemnly hereby promise to post a full trip report, fuc-ups and all !

Natik27,

I would recommend Phuket for anyone that is traveling with their wife. There is lots more for her to do. Bringing your wife to Pattaya is like "bringing a sandwich to a picnic" and the ocean there is not clean for swimming there. IMHO, Pattaya is mainly for drinking and fucking, but there is shopping for your wife and lots more daytime P4P action for you than in Phuket. It is cheaper than Phuket as far as hotels and transportation(baht bus). Pattaya is about a 2 hour ride by hired car with driver(roughly 1500 baht for a nice car) depending on traffic. You would have to fly to Phuket due to your short schedule.

Phuket has lots to see and do. It is more like a traditional resort island with lots of bars in Patong for scooping some pussy. Most of the action there is at night so you may have trouble getting away. I always rent a motorbike (250 baht/day for an automatic) and ride all over the island. I always make Phuket part of my trip to LOS. Flying to Phuket from BKK which will eat into your time a bit but is not too expensive.

Check asiarooms.com for hotels anywhere in Thailand. The hotels are rated with stars and the prices are in baht.

Yes, Airasia is just about as cheap as you can get, but always click all the way thru to the end to get the total cost. I've tried them before and lets say for ex:$29 flight--but once you get to last screen with all taxes/fees etc, found all the fees added up to more than the flight itself.

Not sure if you are talking about Bus from the New airport (Bkk) to Patts, as I've not been able to find a site for schedules, but heard that it's about 2 runs a day from new airport and last one leaves around 3pm. Since we are putting helpful hints about Airasia, here's a few from when I used them last year.

So just to add:
1)Airasia is a fairly reliable airline for the low cost but have about 20%-30% on time problems( this was from last year when I used them so uncertain about this years numbers)--but not any worst than any US based airlines, but definitely worst than other major Asian airlines. So expect to add about 1 hr difference on your arrival time, still not bad for the cheap cost. (Note: these figures are deceptive as a plane landing 5 minutes late is still considered having on-time problems).
2)Their entire fleet of planes are new and not bought off the auction blocks from older stock so reliabilty should be good for now.
3)Absolutely nothing is free on this airline, anything being offered will cost you--even a glass of water(no joke). So best to buy something at the airport before you leave and bring it on board.
4)Not sure if using the bathroom on the plane will cost anything as my flight was short=1 hr (note: most Airasia flights are under 3 hours). So had no need to use toilet on my flight but dont be surprise in the future will need to deposit coins to use it--ha ha (joking or am I ????)

They've never pulled me for overweight luggage (and I've checked-in as much as 34 kilos, on full flights to boot), but I've talked with other travellers who've been shafted on the excess rule.

Funny bunch, Air Asia. When everything goes something-like to plan, they're great (and as cheap as chips :)). But when things go wrong their customer service is almost as bad as it gets (ie: almost non-existent). If they cause you to miss a connecting flight It's essential to do your own reconfirming of ALL forward travel arrangements. Air Asia staffers' assurances of "arrangements taken care of" aren't worth the breath on which their words are made. This side of things is where we get what we pay for, I suppose.

I saw a bus schedule, I don't remember the exact times but I do remember nothing when I arrive at 1030pm.

Reports so far have indicated taxi fares 1100bt to 1300bt, tolls included.

I have a contact phone # for a driver who has a very nice Toyota and will pick you up at the airport and transport you to your hotel in Patts for 1200bt, tolls included

Thanks for the info as I've been searching for this myself.
But 3pm for the last bus is way too early and hope they extend the time as alot of Intl flights into BKK arrives later and once you add the wait for luggage, travel thru a huge airport, and travel by shuttle bus to main terminal etc. --forget about trying to make it by 3pm.

Hey Buds,

Then I am left with 8-10 days to explore. I have 3 girls lined up in Cebu and 4 in Davao. What would u pick as a rendevouz point? Help?

Nipster

That is quite a trip. For sure LOS and PI are nothing like CR. 100x more action in Asia. Fields road can not compare with Pattaya but is worth a look. The girls sometimes seem sweeter than Pattaya ladies.

As for meeting in Cebu, Robinsons mall on Fluente circle. Also stay in the same area and not at a place on the water which are isolated. Check the PI forum for more info.

Forget the ruby.

Enjoy!

I am planning a two week trip to Thailand in February. This will be my first trip there. I am planning to stay about 5 days in Bangkok, the a few days in Pattyaya and about 4 or 5 days in Phuket on the beach.

What would you advise about how to split my time between these locations and what hotels and mongering spots in each place would you recommend.

Thanks

Just returned from a trip in which I experienced departing and arriving at the International terminal of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Other than the fact the Star Alliance lounge seems to be very poorly-located (far from the gates, and the place is huge), departure was no dramas at all. The same can be said of arrival Saturday night, although it did seem to take longer than at Don Muang to get my luggage.

As has been my custom for some time now, I didn't bother with the taxi que; headed straight for Arrivals, where I was able get a taxi that delivered me to my place in Silom Bangrak for about 50THB more than I have been paying.

Although many of public areas don't appear to have had a post-construction cleaning, over-all, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience.

Cheers,
-Y

Came in at midnite - baggage came up pretty quickly and IMMIGRATION took all of 45 seconds (almost no lines) Trouble is that at that time of nite there is little if anyhting to do and it's cab it or don't go. Decided to do my internet availability checkout before I came back for the departure in 4 weeks or so - apparently no "free" wireless available (some may know that there were someplaces in DonMuang that had "open" wireless for free. Went war driving with the system and every unencrypted access was apparently device access specific (device registered). (that was in the outside departure points) supposedly Thai lounge is broadcasting unencrypted in their lounge but llimited range - so will check there when I get ready to go (might be able to check when I go to P-Penh in a couple of weeks)

The airport to downtown bus is supposed to start at 5am (yeah - 5am THAI TIME - that's similar to "Mexican or Hawaiian time", for those who know what I mean - "whenevah" - first bus left at 6 Got to Ekkamai and caught Pattaya bus at 7 with all of 4 minutes to spare. Of course, the OUTBOUND went right back past the same place on Bangna Trat road as we came out to go to Ekkamai. Airport bus is now 150B Pattaya blue-white is now 124B. Baht busses in Pattaya still 10B (but with bags I gave them 40 (generousity) Evidence of sandbagging still in Soi Buakaho - 2 or 3 bags high - might be expecting more rain. Roms still cheap, poo-ying still plentiful, everything george. Prices seem up abut 5% since May but gas / rooms still the same.

Ultra Pilot,

In Bangkok, the open air night bars and food stalls on the lower end of Sukhumvit Road (Soi 5 and up) are open until the middle hours of the morning and are teeming with freelancers and bar girls.

In Pattaya, a lot of the beer bars are open most of the night.

You really should spend a little time reading back through the Bangkok/Pattaya Reports threads to get a good idea of what to expect.

Have fun.

So far, I've managed to patch together an itinerary, with an interesting stop-over or two, for a total US$4100 for three of us (almost one third of travelocity's quote).

Itinerary so far:
- Dubai to Bombay. 4 hour flight. A few days in Bombay.
- Bombay to BKK (4 hour flight). A few days in Bangkok, which will either make or break my marriage. :D
- BKK to Oz (9 hour flight). 10 days there.
- And back again, maybe via Sri Lanka.

I could have done it even cheaper with a stop-over in Afghanistan or Iraq instead, but no thanks.

Mumbai-BKK-Mumbai for the three of us will be about US$800 (compared to US$1600 with Thai Airlines). When I tried to book online, I had to specify if my nationality was Indian Resident, or Foreigner/NRI. When I clicked Foreigner/NRI, there was no availablity, then out of curiosity I clicked on "Indian", and voila! Cheap fares. Will take your advice and ask an Indian friend to help out.

This dual pricing policy is the pits. I am an NRI (Non Resident Indian) and I get this thing a lot. However, my experience is that at least within Indian routes, no carrier has ever asked me to change tickets even if I showed them my US Passport. They are so desperate for passengers, they don't care. However, ask your Indian friend for clarification on international routes.

My current plans are for travel in a "somewhat circle".
Start Bkk and Pattaya( few days)---fly to Phnom Penh/ Siem Reap--Sihaukville--Koh Kong--cross over border to Trat and from there back to Bkk (airport ) for departure home.

My flight home will be departing at about 9pm, so need to get to new Bkk airport by 7:30pm on my last day.
Is it possible to leave Koh Kong the same morning, take 1hr minibus to Trat and then a direct bus from Trat to the new BKK airport? Also if there is such a bus does anyone know what is the schedule the bus leaves Trat and arrives at Bkk airport so I could plan on my departure.
Any links or websites will be helpful.
Note:
If all the above is not possible, I plan to just leave Koh Kong a day earlier and go to Pattaya and spend a nite there and depart for new airport from Pattaya the day of my flight.
I am also open to more suggestions if you can think of them.
Thanks

IF YOU DON'T KNOW GEMS - DON'T BOTHER

True, the Thai have mastered cooking the gems (mostly sapphire)

Now, I'll be honest, though, if you buy from a recognized broker in BKK, you might be OK but NEVER buy off the street.

Gee, what's this have to do with WOMEN?? (except that they love gems...)

I don't think the busses stop at BKK airport (you might ask if they do - I know they go from the airport to Pattaya and Rayong I think but I don't know about other locales). They make you go to the terminal and then come back out. The only thing is that the busses actually go RIGHT BY the airport (Bangna-Trat road) so if you could get them to let you off, it would be a lot faster. The run from Trat goes to Chantaburi and then to Chonburi. You should make it with no problem

The following 2 reports are on a competing forum in Thailand, i thought they may be of interest to anyone who has slipped an extra bottle of spirits or carton of cigs into their suitcase....

Posted on 17 Oct 06, by Fat Boy Slim
A group of five friends arrived at the new airport two days ago for their well earned one month holiday in Pattaya. Four of them being smokers, and not liking the brands avialable in Thailand decided to bring a reasonable supply of their own cigs from the duty free in England. O.K. 10 sleeves each might be excessive but they were purely for their own use, plus maybe a few packets for me , hopefully.
After being searched the five lads were dutifully wisked away to some police station approx half an hour away where they had all the cigs taken off them and a fine of 3,000 (Three thousand pounds) deducted from their wallets.
Given the choice of pay or go directly to jail (Whether Bluffing or not ) the lads coughed up and after five hours were let go to continue on their journey to Patters.
Another family of four (Man ,wife and two young kids ) were fined 1,000 pounds and not having enough money to continue their holiday got the next flight home.
Could this be another money making scam from the customs. Surley the duty on fifty sleeves of cigs can't be that high. Don't get me wrong, they new they had exeeded the limit but three grand is not a nice way to start your hols.
TIT the land of smiles
Just be carefull lads.

We have today had visitors arriving from the UK (a family of four, 2 Adults and 2 teenage Sons) who were detained and then fined 35,000THB (£500) for having too many cigarrettes.

They had five cartons they had purchased in Abu Dabi on the way here.

As this is their first visit to Thailand, they were understandibly shocked as they were all four taken by Police truck to be grilled for 2 hours regarding this "crime", away from the airport terminal.

Furthermore, they were not alone in receiving this treatment, several other UK passengers on the same flight were detained for the same reason.

As many ex-pats will have visitors coming over PLEASE WARN THEM ABOUT THE STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF DUTY FREE ALLOWANCES.

The laws are now apparently being rigorously applied. Limits are 200 cigarettes and 1 litre of spirits per adult.

This has been an awful start to my friends holiday, as they were treated like criminals for hours upon arrival.

If you can advise your family and friends, you will avoid similar problems.

Advice of taking taxi to the new airport don't agree of a price just tell the driver you will pay the meter , From nana to the new airport should be only around 260 bht only 60 bht more than the old airport ,Bus take too long make too many stop AE3 airport bus only run every 40 min and stop at the airport bus terminal and you need to take a shuttle to the level 2 terminal and go up to level 5 international departure take a long time .

Most of the new airport the air con still don't work and they are still doing the wiring of the place .

When I went to Thailand I used travelocity to find the cheapest ticket. It let you punch in to find the cheapest ticket over a period of time. It no longer allows that for international flights, you have to put in a specific date. I dont know how to find a cheap ticket if your dates are flexible. I suspect many of the more knowledgeable posters here are rather affluent and dont care so much about airline prices. The only suggestion I would have for you is to spend some time online and find the best price you can and then call a few travel agencies and see if they can beat that price.

Good luck,

Try United out of Dullles. They fly direct to Tokyo and from there connect directly to Bangkok. The planes and service are not as good as any of the Asian carriers but you might get a better price. They are discontinuing their NY-Tokyo service and were offering specials on the Dulles flight.

I also think that ANA flies in and out Dulles with basically the same connection. If the price is the same, go with them, much better service. For both ANA and United you are flying the same carrier all the way from the US to Bangkok from Dulles. It is probably you shortest total time unless you can make a short connection with the Thai flight in NY.

Been lurking for a month or so here and just want to say thanks for al the great info. I'm arriving the 27th in Tokyo for 4 days then on to Bangkok staying at the JWM for my first 6 days there. I'll be in Thailand for 3 weeks total and figured I'd figure out the rest of my itinerary once I'm there. This is my first trip to Asia so I'm pretty much playing it by ear..if anyone has advice or wants to meet for a drink and share some in person that would be cool. I thought maybe I'd make a side trip to Malaysia by train or whatever is feasible while I'm out there, I want to enjoy what the locals have to offer (first timer for this as well) and also sightsee and shop.

Iwant Pussy,

In addition to what the other gentlemen said, I would also try a local travel agency or even one located in NYC since its just a simple bus ride away. Definetly try to look one up that specializes in travel to Asia/SE Asia. Depending on the time of year/ or even high season they seem to have a nice hold on the cheapest tickets. It could be hit or miss , but just give them a call to see. Also, do not call or go online to the top commercial travel agencies, but try to search for, like I said the ones that specialize on Asia.

Just a suggestion. Once you go have a good time. You'll love Thailand. Trust me. Red Alert.

Having just returned from a trip to LOS, I would like share some details for the newcomers to this airport.

Arrival:
Came in at 5:30 am on a flight from Delhi. The plane came in to a gate in Concourse C. (This airprt has 7 Concourses A through G. Concourse B is Domestic Terminal for Thai Air.) Exiting and going to Immigration and Customs is a long, long walk. Also the directional sign at one point is slightly misleading, due to which I turned on to the wrong hallway. But seeing it was deserted, I turned back and got in the right direction.

There are several Duty Free shops along the way. So if you want to pick up something on the way out, this is the time to do it. Also, the money changers and ATMs can be found along this route. Unlike Don Muang there are no shops after Immigration.

Clearing Immigration was fast and painless. Many counters were open and the line moved quite rapidly. They seem to have done away with the cameras or it could be hidden (Idoon't know).

Baggage wait was short and walked out of the Customs with no hassle. The outside wait area is quite small compared to Don Muang, but it is no big deal.

Private taxi counters are available, but they are too expensive. Was quoted 800 B to Suk Soi 15. So where are the Taxis? When you come out on this Arrival Level one assumes you are on the Ground Floor. Not so here at this Airport. You ae on Level 2. There are 4 Levels at this airport. (Check in for Departures are on Level 3.)

I walked outside but could not see any taxi stand. Then I looked down. There they were. So I go back in trying to find a way down. All I could find were escalators coming up. Then I spotted the elevators.

So here is the deal. Coming out of Customs, turn right. Within fifty feet is the glass elevators. Opposite the ramp type escalators coming up. Take the elevator one level down and walk outside to the Taxi Stand. Instead of a booth, the slip writers are sitting at a table. Tell them where you want to go and they will write it out and give it to the Taxi driver and telling you to pay a surcharge of 50 B to the driver. Total cost to Sukhumvit came to 190B (meter) + 65 B Toll + 50 B surcharge = 305 B.

Departures:
Coming back I flew out on Thai Air. So here is my experience with Thai. Coming in to the Departures I spotted the signs. First and Biz class - Entrance 1, Domestic - Entrance 2 and International Economy - Entrance 4. Since I have a SA Gold card (United), I naturally assumed I would be checking in at the Biz counter as in Don Muang. Big Mistake.

Traveling Biz Class?
No, Gold card.
Go to counters H and K.
But I have Gold card, look.
Ok but you still have to go to H & K Economy Check-in.

So I haul my ass all the way over to near entrance 4 (counters H and K) and then I spot the check in for SA Gold. Check in was smooth and having 3 hrs to kill asked where their lounge was.

Sorry, United FFs cannot use Thai lounge.
Why not?
No agreement.

There was a small notice directing UA Gold card holders to go to Lions (?) restaurant instead in concourse F/G Level 1. Now my gate was in Concourse C Level 3. Having no choice trudged all the way to the other end of the airport, past all the gucci and Ralph Lauren stores. The Big Snake sculpture was nice though. Having arrived at G, went down to Level one to find the restaurant. No such luck, but spotted the China Air/Quantas lounge. Asked them where is the UA lounge and found that I had indeed arrived at the right place. So warning, do not look for the restaurant but for the CIP lounge.

Departure time headed back to gate C19, walking all the way back, stopping to buy some duty free booze. Standard security check and secondary check at the gate. (BTW, the hand searching of luggage to US flights are not there anymore.) But I couldn't board the plane with the booze. They gave me an check in baggage slip and told me I could collect it in LAX.

Boarded and had a smooth as silk flight of 14 hrs back to LA.

Yeah, Suvarhnabhumi is a design disaster. Seems to me it was more about a dick-measuring contest than a functional design. Who the frick cares how tall your control tower is?

I've been in-n-out twice now, and am amazed at how horrible the design is. The Star Alliance lounge is closer to the frickin' parking lots than the gates. And what's up with the "people mover" things going only one way? I'm sure most of are only in a hurry to get to the lounge, but not to the gates?

You'd think with 3 world-class airports in the region (SIN, HKG, KUL), that coming up with a good design would not have been that hard. *sigh*

Aircon bus service opened between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Pattaya

Narisa Nitikarn
A direct bus service between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Pattaya has been opened by Transportation Co Ltd, bearing the number 999 and with a one-way ticket priced at 106 baht.

There is now a shuttle bus to take passengers from Pattaya to the new airport, and vice versa.

Transportation Co’s Pramualsak Chandang said the company had obtained the concession from the Ministry of Transportation to operate three routes from the new airport to destinations in Thailand: apart from the Pattaya service there are buses traveling to Rong Kluea Market and to Nong Khai province.
The Pattaya bus terminus is located at the beginning of Soi Chaiyapruk 1, 100 meters away from Jomtien Beach. The officer in charge of the terminus is Chatchawan Charoenwattha.
First-class air-conditioned buses leave here three times per day for Suvarnabhumi Airport, departing at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., and departing from the airport for Pattaya at the same time.
Ticket price for a one-way trip is 106 baht per person, with the bus having a capacity of 40 passengers per trip. There are three service officers on board, namely the driver, conductor and hostess. Cold towels and soft drinks are provided, and there is an on-board restroom.
The bus travels a non-stop direct route on the motorway, and takes approximately two hours for the 127-kilometer trip.
Mrs Pinnat Charoenphol, assistant director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Office Region 3, said the service is a good one and appropriately priced. She has, however, asked if service locations can be opened closer to town, as the terminus is quite a distance from the center. She has also queried if three buses per day with a capacity of 40 persons each will be enough for the high season, suggesting that extra buses may be necessary.
For more information please contact tel 03823 1142.

I believe there is also another bus that have the same schedule that departs new airport and ends in pattaya (and not Jomtien) for 120b

My buddy and I arrive about midnight and are interested in having a couple of young ladies join us at the president solitaire. This is our first visit and as much as I have RTFF I am uncertain how we should set about as it may be 1am or so. Should we get our driver enroute to the hotel to try taking us by some pick up locales? Should we have the hotel car pick us up, 1300b, or cab it. Should we set off on foot from hotel towards nana perhap. Get a taxi to take us once we have checked in and secured our valuables to a take out location, if so where at the late hour. We'll be in town a week. Recommendations are appreciated, thanks

You have plenty of time to check in first, lock up your valuables (always!) and then go hunting. No need to get driver to stop first, unless you can't absolutely wait!

Nana parking lot is first stop after getting settled - just make sure you can tell the difference between real TG and katoey. You have a week to become experts....take your time, enjoy and be safe :)

President Solitaire is a long-ish walk from The lower-end Suk Sois (Nana is Sois 3 & 4). Pay the 50-or-so baht for a tuk tuk. Nana Hotel car park is worth a look, as T1234 says. And the streetbars (mostly on the odd-numbered Sois-side of Suk from Soi 5 and up are excellent hunting grounds right into the middle hours of the morning (again, as T1234 says, beware of ladyboys). The cocktail bar between Sois 5 & 7 is a personal fave (great cocktails too :)).

Not flown into the new airport yet, but reports suggest that meter taxis (insist on the meter being switched on, btw) are readily available for around 300 baht+tip inc. road tolls (you pay the road tolls).

Oh, and if you haven't brought local currency with you, you can pick some up at the airport. The ATMs offer the best exchange rate for decent amounts of money, but the bureaux de change give a far better rate than ones in your home country.

Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Bangkok in February/March and I'm curious what a good airfare would be. Right now I'm getting $900.00-$1000.00 fares from both Boston and New York. Is this a fair price or is this high? I'd like to think I could get a $600.00RT fare, but I may be dreaming too. Haha. You people see the rates all the time, what's the average fare and what's a good fare?

Thanks and I really enjoy reading all of your postings.

Have a great week!

That's a reasonable price for peak season from the east coast of the U.S. The best prices from the west coast are in the $755-800 range, and prices from the east coast are typically $150-200 more. The $600 prices are pre-tax, after tax it comes to $755. After taxes, anything in the $900 range is a good price from the Eastern U.S.

Check cheapflights.com - they give wide variety of carriers and usually provide good reference point. Obviously the direct flights will cost more.

Traveler1234,

Thanks for the response as I appreciate all the responses people have made. I don't care if they have to strap me to the wing and send me via Antarctica to get a cheap fare. Haha. It's all about the $$$$. LOL If ANYONE hears of deals to Bangkok, I would expect them to post it so all of us hear about it. I check this forum everyday and also check the travel pages daily too. If I have to spend $1000. 00 to get to Bangkok, so be it, but $700. 00 would be better! Thanks to all that post in this forum, your experiences and stories are always interesting and most often, amusing.

Thanks again,

Hi guys,

I will arrive at Bangkok on November 17 and stay there for some days before going down to Indonesia. Of course all the usual evening places like Nana, cowboy and so on are nice, but maybe its also nice to have a dinner or beer with somebody of these guys in here. If you want too - just tell me.

Till soon

It's a fair price if you decide to book now.
If you have ice in your stomach, you could wait until the after Christmas, early spring sales begin. I got a flight EWR-BKK-EWR for about $620 last year towards the end of January. I don't know how true it is, but I read on a travel site that fares fall to their lowest levels after about Jan. 15, then start going up again before Easter. A lot of people travel around Xmas-New Year's and just about everyone doesn't have money after the holidays, so fares to exotic locations drop according to the law of supply and demand (too many seats, not enough butts to fill them, prices drop in hopes of attracting those who otherwise couldn't afford the trip).

Time to avoid is the Chinese New Year (Spring festival). Lots of overseas Chinese traveling then. It begins on Feb. 18 in 2007, so fares probably won't be discounted deeply on transPacific beginning Feb. 15 through the end of the month (festival lasts 10 days in some places), two or three days in others.

Forget about the hotel picking you up, more trouble than it's worth. There's always the chance the driver won't find you, then you'll have to call the hotel, etc. Depending on how baht-pinching you are, you could either take a metered cab (about 300B) or an AOT "limo" (actually a Toyota Camry, but very roomy and comfortable) for 900B. The AOT limo can be arranged and paid for inside the baggage claim area. While one of you collects your suitcases, the other can fix the limo. That saves about 15 minutes and some hassle compared with the metered cab.

I've stayed many times at the President Solitaire and it's no hassle to get a cab from there any time of day or night. As someone else suggested, check-in, secure your valuables, then head to the lower Suk- Nana Car Park area.

I used Suvarn four time in the past two weeks (two international arrivals and two international departures). Everything functioned very smoothly each time, no glitches whatsoever. I was particularly impressed with the baggage handling, which had been a trouble spot at least through mid-October. On arrival from the U.S., I pulled the second of two very heavy suitcases off the carousel about 13 minutes after clearing Immigration. I returned with one –not-so-heavy suitcase and it took nearly 30 minutes after clearing U.S. Immigration to get it back at JFK. Thai Immigration was a snap both inbound and outbound, only two or three people ahead of me in the queue. Check-in on both outbound flights was also painless – no queue at all, I went straight to the check-in counter.

The only slightly disconcerting airport-related moment was getting a taxi to the airport. On both trips from a Suk hotel, the driver wouldn’t do it for less than 400 baht excluding tolls. At 8.15 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, four straight drivers declined the trip even for 400 baht. The reason was the trip back after dropping me off. The drivers said they’d be returning empty and would get stuck in the morning rush, making a trip to the airport a losing proposal. I had taken AOT “limos” from the airport after both inbound flights.

Are there any shuttle bus operators working out of BKK like in SYD or HNL?

Dinghy
11-10-06, 18:34
define "shuttle bus" - there is an airport bus that runs several routes (I took the 630 am departure INTO the city, arrived at Ekkamai at 7am) - he would have picked up people there (if there were any to pick up) and circled back to the airport for 150B for the next outbound run - they seem to run every 30 mins or so. They stop running at midnite or so and the 7am start (at Ekkamai) is relative to when they leave the airport for the first morning run. it's a "circle run". 1/2 size bus with "airport bus" on the side of the bus (you need to have a good idea of what you are looking for though or you will miss it. The "pick up is at "door 8" on the ground floor 50m beyond where the taxi stop is

Maybe this is more specific:

In SYD or HNL there are companies which run a large van around to the hotels. Usually, they have a trailer hooked up for luggage. You pay a sum to ride and they go direct to your hotel.

What I have been reading here, all I see is airport shuttle busses which cover a set route like regular public busses.

OK - the answer is "no". Bus, taxi or limo (either arranged in advance or on-site if the bus is running)
