Found a great GP/ER Doc (getting ready to open his own office) that will actually make house calls.

Speaks perfect English, young, likes to party and has a lot of friends that are nurses. Just say you read about him on the internet. He will know where it came from.

Currently at Clinica Las Vegas but trust me, he will answer his cell phone and e-mails;

I have used clinics in Bocagrande, Cartagena, and Laureles, Medellín, for over 5 years now. They take credit cards. You can most probably just walk in without an appointment.

Urban Wildlife,

Check out Pilar Ordonez. She is located in Bocagrande in Edificio Portofino, Cra10. She speaks very good englidh and her prices are very reasonable. I had implants done by her in 2007 and the work was excellent. In gact you might be able to rent an apartment in the same building as I did. Call her at 011576653444 and make an appointment. I hope this helps you out. I highly recommend her. Her brother has a successful pratice in Coral Gables, Fl.

Here is the name of a dentist I used in cartegna last week. Broke a filling and a local chica married to a gringo here took me him. Got me right in that morning and fixed me up 35mil.

He speaks no English but was very Happy with his work. He does do crowns and the like but not sure about implants and the like. I have a dentist in san jose CR I usually use for most things.

Consultorio Odontologico 24 hours

Dr Ariel Rocha Avendano

Cell 312- 797-6541

Found a hearing doctor in Boca Grande. Don't have her name and number in hand but you can drop me a message if you need it.

Top of the line Widex hearing aides are a little less then I could price in Fl. 5K here instaed of 6K in Fl. But the good news is medium range digital hearing aides of the same brand are less then half.

What was $1599 for one in Fl I got two here for $1450. God didn't really know how deaf I was till I got them. I have about 80% loss in left ear witch I knew but my right ear was allot worse then I had realized.

It has improved my Spanish allot already. With English the brain could fill in the missing sounds. With Spanish I was just screwed

Cheers

Does anybody know how much it costs to get braces in MDE? If 9 out of 10 girls (maybe I'm exaggerating!) has braces, it must be affordable!

Does anybody know how much it costs to get braces in MDE? If 9 out of 10 girls (maybe I'm exaggerating! ) has braces, it must be affordable! Ah, my favorite subject. In the Orthodontic Republic of Colombia, braces cost around US$100 to get installed then US$10-US$20/month to maintain (archwire and ligatures changed). In other countries such as Thailand and Mexico they are a little bit more expensive, I. E. US$150 + $30/month more or less.

I tell the girls in Colombia how much braces cost in the USA (I. E. Around $6, 000) and they are shocked. The prices of braces are artificially inflated in the USA because the supply of orthodontists is artificially limited by American Orthodontist Association, it is almost impossible to get into ortho school. In Colombia, I think you only need 4 year degree.

I have been a braces fetishist since before I became attracted to women, and Colombia is absolute heaven for me right now. Haven't been to Medellin in a couple of years but just got back from Bogota is absolutely slamming for women with braces, as well as Pereira, Manizales, etc.

After the initial installation, do you know how often you need to go back for maintenance? With the money I saved.. I can use to pay for airfare to go down there for some fun while I go for my maintenance!

Damn.. really? After the initial installation, do you know how often you need to go back for maintenance? With the money I saved.. I can use to pay for airfare to go down there for some fun while I go for my maintenance!Supposed to be monthly. I see a lot of girls/people in Colombia with braces but missing wires, brackets, ligatures, etc. It seems a lot of time they put them on but don't maintain them (surely because lack of money), which you rarely see in USA. The cool thing about Colombia is that you can go to any dentist you want, you can go to a different office each visit, don't even need to make an appointment!

In the Texas/Mexico border, as soon as you cross into Mexico, there are tons of orthodontist offices because it is so much cheaper to do it in Mexico, so Texans drive to Mexico to do it and other dental work. It would be harder for to make the economic works for flying to Colombia. I have heard of people (in other contexts) going a long, long time between adjustments (like 6-12 months) but then obviously the overall treatment would take longer.

Need to get to MDE soon to check out the current braces scene, your post certainly makes me want to board a plane ASAP; I have been going to mainly Bogota recently.

One time I was walking in El Centro, mostly lost, and on one particular street downtown there was entirely eyeglass or optometrists offices on both sides of the street for a block. There is also an eyeglass place in el Oviedo mall. Which would be cheaper? Assuming you already have a scrip, how much to regular glasses cost, that is, are the frames a lot cheaper there?

I find that there are gringo prices in effect in Medellin.

A cap in Medellin is $425. A cap in Costa Rica is $225. Isn't Costa Rica supposed to have a higher standard of living as far as Latin America goes?

I lived in Costa Rica for 13 years up until 2 years ago. Then I live in Medellin for 7 months. I can tell you a few things. Not everything. And I will make some subjective remarks also. A colonoscopy in Costa Rica costa costs $300+ any polups. In Colombia it is $180! Both are at top hospitals. Some medications in Costa Rica that cost $1. 00 per pill are almost $4. 00 in Colombia. Generally speaking. Brand name medications cost a LOT more in Colombia or are not even available. In my opinion Medical care in Medellin costs much less than CR. The quality. Give me Colombia anytime. The Medellin hospitals and clinics are 1st class. Maybe better than the USA. Maybe. I had a private health care policy in Colombia. Complete coverage for $210 per month. At 65 years old! It was the best insurance policy I have ever had.

The CR caja insurance is worthless. The Colombian 'caja' might be better. I say might be. The Colombian caja is good for immediate care. For long term it is questionalbe. Again. Bring your medication with you if going to Colombia.

There are some people who live in the USA, but have their private health insurance in Colombia apparently. They only get emergency care in the USA. If they require anything else the visit Colombia http://caliadventurer.com/health-insurance-in-colombia/ Seems pretty smart. Probably way better than going to the VA.

Will be in MDE when I am due for my periodic STI check. Any recommendations on where to get it done. I wanted to get it done in Angeles once and the doc I went to told me they just proscribe antibiotics at any suspicion of infection. I prefer to get the lab tests (reliably) completed.

Earlier this year I was in San Diego and on a Friday evening I had some pain in a molar. I needed a root canal and a crown. Searched around for dentists in Tijuana open on weekends and decided on a dentist office called "I LOVE MY DENTIST" excellent work done in a day. About $750 USD.

What I was most impressed with is that they had Computer Modeling of Crown meaning they didn't have to stick that modeling clay in your mouth to get an impression, they just carefully scanned with a camera. Additionally when it came to final fitting which is the most tedious and critical part of the affair where usually you have to bite down on a piece of carbon paper, tell them if it feels right, they grind some more ad infinitum after you already spent several hours in the chair.

With the computer modeled crown, it fit perfectly on the first go. I was amazed and VERY impressed.

Anyhow I would love to hear if there are any dentists in Medellin that use this process.

Cheers!

EQ.I've used Clinica Artica. They're in Poblado area. They're a little more expensive than most places in the city but the office is nice and looks pretty new, and in a newer office building with a decent amount of security. They also speak English, which is another reason I went there. I can speak fluent Spanish, but when it comes to medical terms I want to be clear in English. And by a little more expensive I mean like maybe 60,000 COP more than other places, but that's really nothing for tourists. Look them up and message them on WhatsApp.
