Heard from the news that Clark Airport will be open for international flights like NAIA, it was a good news for Angeles City, Balikbayans will have a stop-over there for some fun.LOL. I know Korean Air and Asiana Air have been flying there for a while now. Not sure about any of the US Airlines though.

Currently staying at the Devera Hotel. Great staff that's very accommodating. The rooms are of satisfaction as well. Distance to Walking Street isn't far either with the location of the hotel right next to ABC Hotel and Pony Tail's.

Only cons of the hotel are the tiny bathrooms, the elevator and lack of pool or gym I suppose. If you're a big dude, good luck trying to squeeze on to that tiny toilet! Also the shower doesn't have a door or curtain. So if you're a big dude, the bathroom floors going to get wet fast! Although I like the price of the hotel, I think I might stay at one with a hotel the next time I'm here.I stayed in Devera hotel this month for 2 nights. Asked for a non smoking room and was told it is. But it reeked of cigarette smoke either from there or neighbor rooms. They should make one whole floor non smoking.

Otherwise hotel is in excellent location and clean and nice bed and the employees are very good. One word of caution though. When I gave the girl 4000 pesos as deposit she did not give me a receipt. I have had a bad experience in Royal Amsterdam one time when I did not insist on receipt. The girl told me I gave her 1000 pesos less. Anyway this time I called the girl from the room and asked her to send the receipt to the room and was done. Small bathroom does not bother me. There is a rooftop restaurant there now and eggs benedict ordered was excellent. Only thing is when you order

Coffee or tea it is for one cup no refills. However room has hot water boiler and you can get coffee or tea powder and make yourself. Did not eat there except breakfast.

I am not a smoker and hate to wake up with a sore throat with all the inhaled smoke.

For a while, yes. Air Asia is flying into Clark since 2004. And, I enjoyed it, hehe, before the Korean invasion.Too bad, now I got an email, that the route Clark-KL by Air Asia has been cancelled. Have no other choice anymore than going through NAIA. SH*T!

Too bad, now I got an email, that the route Clark-KL by Air Asia has been cancelled. Have no other choice anymore than going through NAIA. SH*T!Yes, I also was disappointed to find that they still have CRK listed in the choice of destinations on the search but simply doesn't return results.

I ended up using SEA Air ticketed through Tiger. But this only leaves from Singapore which doesn't help you.

Still for me, I get to avoid Manila and also the EDSA and the drive. Also, the P2500 each way cost.

No, guys, for me there is another solution. I simply do not go to Angeles anymore and spend my entire time in Burgos, Makati or elsewhere. End of story, and since the schedule of CP and Zest for KL-MNL is pretty inconvenient, I then just go for MAS or PAL.

It's right off Fields Ave, listed as a luxury hotel in some hotel sites, but the room is very basic, Motel 6 quality. There are other nicer hotels near Fields Ave.

The housekeeping staff says hi!

DG asked, and I have no information about the Queens hotel.

I do know that I had an excellend Italian meal at a restaurant back in August. It was a quiet night and I ended up talking to the Chef and the Chef's wife (filipina). To be honest I was hitting on the waitress, but once the mgmt realized I was talkative they butted in. GOod people who have run a restaurant in Hawaii. And the food was pretty damn good. It was also very expensive by local standards, but I would go again.

Is anyone still reading the restaurant review. They told me they are moving to Queens hotel when it opens. X Man

According to Trip Advisor the restaurant is opened at Queens Hotel now and has excellent reviews. Pricey but excellent food, which is hard to find in AC. I plan on eating there in the near future. The hotel does not rate as high.

Guys,

Can you recommend any reasonably priced hotels with 2 room suites? I'll be going for a night with a buddy of mine and getting a suite with a jacuzzi (preferably) and 2 separate rooms would be nice. I know ABC has some, but I've never splurged for a room there before.

However the stairs can be a bit of a killer.

And I had Ants in my room the entire stay.

Had to bring in house keeping to help rid me of them

I stayed in Devera hotel this month for 2 nights. Asked for a non smoking room and was told it is. But it reeked of cigarette smoke either from there or neighbor rooms.I had the same problem with my little tiny room there last stay. Plus no hot water, wonky wifi, and no real window. The staff are friendly but ineffectual. (Why do I feel like I'm describing the whole country?) Anyhow I won't be staying there again. In fact I'm a little surprised at the continuing popularity of the place.

I don't think Devera have non smoking room they just use Odor spary to cover up the smoke, the Coffee suck there taste like instant stuff and you want second, Just compain to Joyce M the cute manager I know her back in Central park days like to give her a hard time she the one that give me a hard time when I return back to the hotel alone.

I'm thinking of staying about 2 months from April thru May. Obviously I don't want to spend 2 months in a hotel room. If anyone knows of or has reasonable accomidations for the 2 months please PM me.

I will be in Angeles in January and will be looking for a studio or 1 BR. I can meet you then and look at your property.

Those who are charging big money for the monger. Bless you. But forget me.

Looking for places that are more geared to the local ex-pat, not the tourist who come and spend a great amount of money in a couple of weeks because they are on vacation and won't be back for a year or two.

I was in Angeles 4 times totaling about 13 weeks last year. I have some idea of the local rates just need help finding a 1/2 way decent one!

I was hoping some of the more experienced people here could give me some advice, will be in ac the last week in Feb and first week of Mar.

Debating weather I should just spin the roulette wheel and book all one place or just book a night and look around the next day for the best room I don't want to get stuck with a non working air conditioner or no hot water hole for 7 days I'v read enough to know they will stick you in the worst room first And It's Almost impossible to get a refund. Thing is that time frame I believe will still be the end of high season I want to make sure I can get a room if I wing it. Also I know it's easy to get a decent room for $100 a night but I only want to spend 50 or less.

Thank's in advance.

Thank's in advance. There are at least 100 places to stay in AC, many of them quite reputable but you don't even, on your first post, tell us what hotel (s) you might be looking at. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Read the frigg'and form and ascertain within a reasonable degree of certainty, what hotels might fit your needs and then ask specific questions about them. If you're worried about "them" sticking you in the worst room for 7 days, you are obviously looking at the worst hotels.

Thank's in advance. If you know you're cheap, then book the room in advance. Also its not necessarily true that you can't get a partial refund if you depart early.

Another plan might be to book two separate hotels, one for the first half and one for the last half of your stay. That way you aren't stuck in any one hotel for too long, and you have a chance to compare / contrast multiple hotels in your upcoming field report for us.

HI, I'll be in Angeles in December. Unfortunately I'll be staying with some supposed non-mongers whom don't share the same hobby. This means I'll need somewhere to take the ladies back for some short time fun.

I usually work around Dollhouse and Insomnia and in between.

What would be a suitable hotel in that area? I was thinking I might just take it for a few days to save all the transactions check in / out each day.

When I say 'work' a better word would have been stroll / party. I usually find a girl from the bars between these places (which is a lot of choice).

I won't need a pool as won't have time f=to use it.

I'm thinking P1, 000 a day for what I need for 3-4 hours each evening. By the time I finish work, have a few drinks, make a selection, enjoy some bedroom fun and then be back at quarters by midnight.

Thinking about it now, the girls probably know far mroe than me on where to organise this.I wouldn't count on it, most of the girls are not from the area and a large percentage can barely spell their own names.

A little over your budget, but places like Kokomo's, Swiss Chalet, Wild Orchid Inn (annex on Raymond St) and Apartelle Royal come to mind; they're all about 1, 500-1, 700. There's also the Tune hotel, which is closer to your budget, but further down on Perimeter Road so you'd need to take a trike. There's also a few other places down that way that are within your stated budget too.

I'd personally just book something for the few days as opposed to wasting time trying to find a place everyday and as you've said, avoid the hassle of checking in and out every day. And, in case your business schedule changes, you'd have the added benefit of having the room available 24/7. Who knows, you might find yourself with some extra free time and you can always grab a girl or three from one of the blow row bars for ST.

Actually slightly off topic when I was in Singapore and met a FL at Orchard Towers while on a 6 hour CHangi transit she was able to deftly guide us to a short time hotel between there and the airport. So civilised that country. The transit was easily enough time to exit the airport, go to a club in town, find a FL, find a hotel and still make it back comfortably back through immigration at the airport and onto my flight. What other airport can be so convenient to entertain all tastes. I know Geylang is closer but I'm not a fan.

Some hotels will allow you to pay daily.I think almost all do, unless of course if you've booked at a discount rate.

Except for a few hotels I know well and trust, I've learned the hard way to pay as I go. There are just too many crappy rooms out there, even at fairly nice hotels. Last time at Devera for example they stuck me in a pretty awful windowless little room. They promised to move me to a better one in a day or two. But in the meantime I found something much better, so just moved. It's always good to keep your options open in AC, for all kinds of reasons.

Fast Eddie 48I used the Devera as my offsite hotel during my stay in AC. I took a P1350 room which I was able to obtain at the time I rocked up the the front desk. Passport I'd, paid cash and the room was mine to use as needed. The room facility is basic, two small bottle of water, two towels etc. Bed was OK, simple and comfortable. Shower was hot. Room rate also included a free drink at the resto but only 8am-4:30pm. What use s that?

During the visit I needed a complete room service which was carried out and the room looked completely fresh. Fresh enough that Pinay #2 did not know Pinay #1 had left 30 minutes before.

Things I did like about Devera were:

Friendly and polite front desk staff.

Quite room.

Free wi-fi.

Price.

I didn't like the construction noise going on around the place.

I would stay there overnight if I needed a cheap place to stay.

Hello, I am going to stay in Clarkton hotel.

The room costs near 1.900 pesos.

Nice they have swimming pool but a little far away from Fields Av.

I used to stay in Swiss hotel, which I recommend, but they have no swimming pool.

I also know Orchid Inn, which I do not recommend at all. Low quality and expensive. Bad experience when I decided to stay there.

Any suggestion of another place?

Is there any good option to rent a small apartment of room in a residence for a week or so?

Thanks

ThanksKokomos.

Theres a f-ing stripper pole in my room.

Book through Agoda, its nice. No window in room though, but thats ok.

Air-con works unlike Boulevard Mansion in Manila.

Hello, I am going to stay in Clarkton hotel.

The room costs near 1. 900 pesos.

ThanksI liked Clarkton and will be there again in February. I found it nicer than ABC where I have been three times.

Mirrors club a nice place to play some pool and have a few drinks before night life.

Also free shuttle to fileds and back. I just used the jeepneys, actually a nice way to meet some local.

People and gives a chance to take some pics during day time.

Take an afternoon walk to the near by perimeter bars; Lost In Asia and others very near!

Very friendly staff and also the girls seem to like the place.

Plenty of action near you. No need to go to Fileds. Explore and have fun.

I'm in Makati. Anybody ever crazy enough to rent a car and drive up here for the weekend? Is it a bad idea or ok?Assuming you're contemplating driving to Angeles, once you get out of metro Manila its not a bad trip at all but why would somebody want to rent a car to drive to Angeles and back when they can take a bus for 600 pesos from Swagman. That bus will also arrange to drop you and pick you up directly at your hotel. Have you ever tried driving from Makati up to the north end of Valenzuela? I can fly from Chicago to Miami in less time.

I stayed in Orchid Inn hotel and it is a place I do not recommend at all.

Just two good points: it has swimming pool and very central location.

Against: cockraches, old rooms (standard is a dump and deluxe room is better but old, is no worth the money you pay for it)

Several better options no far from the action.

Guys,

I was in AC in the first part of September. I stayed at the Orchid Inn Resort. The location for the Orchid Inn Resort is ideal. Pretty close to everything. The rooms have free wi-fi and in-room safe. I had the superior deluxe room at 2750 PP per night.

At first I hated that hotel due to the noise. Everything from all day heavy construction to loud motorcycles to horns and a funeral party next door were driving me bat shit. I had them move me to a room in the far back, and it was much quieter.

I would consider Orchid Inn Resort again for future visits to AC. However, I would probably be open to trying something else if the value is there.

I had been to Angeles a year ago and I stayed at Phoenix Hotel. I had paid 1800 peso for a room without breakfast. It had similar problems: old room, cockroach, dirty swimming pool etc. Only the staff in the restaurant were nice.

Would you like to share a better option as I will be visiting Angeles again this year. I know ABC and Lewis Grand may be better as their price may suggest.

Clarkton is a great all-around hotel. Great food, large pool, clean and spacious rooms! The only drawback I can see is that their location could be better. But they offer free transpo to and from Fields.

If you mean on Fields Avenue then there is an ATM outside the ABC hotel or several over in the SM mall. The best option though is to use Citibank on MacArthur Highway as that one is fee free

I've been a big fan of the Orchid inn, but my last visit was a bit of a pain. Running toilet, dripping faucet, dispute over water consumed, etc. I like having a fan room, but the lowest setting wasn't working. Moving on to the 2nd setting and it sounded like a helicopter taking off in my room. Buko recommends the annex, which is newer. The rooms are a bit dark for my taste, but the appropriately located mirrors have a certain charm. Oh, almost forgot. There is a massive construction project going on adjacent to the OI. You might be out relaxing poolside and then hear a thunderous noise as if there is a catastrophic building collapse happening at the construction project. Relax! It's just a garbage / waste chute that comes down from the upper floors.

I also stayed at the brand new Queens. Prices for the cheapest rooms were over 3000, but I liked it. I'll try to do a review later. Especially if anyone is interested. The Italian restaurant (Piccolo?) at Q is the best in AC imo. I preferred the atmosphere of the restaurant at the old location, but they do have good food. Good food often comes at good prices, you've been warned.

I also popped into Penthouse to see a room. I think someone has already mentioned the glass-walled shower / commode. Awwwkward. This is a big building and there are only two elevators. One was out of order when I was there. I've got a bad feeling about this place. They had a lot of fireworks for their grand opening in late December. The roof / pool is still not open though. I have to admit, I took the short cut from Orchid Inn to Santos Ave. LOL, AC regulars will understand.

1pm bus from Brass Knob, I met an interesting guy who stayed at Tiger. I suspect he is an ISG member, so maybe we can get a review for that hotel. LOL. X Man.

I visited Angeles and stayed at the Savannah. The room was nice and the suites have a large jacuzzi tub. They have king size beds, good sheets and towels as well. The internet is good. I did use the tub and it was different. You need to make sure the water is not close to the top. An under water BJ is nice, but short. It is far from Fields, but there are still a few in the area to visit early in the day. I would stay there again even though the price is more then I like to spend.

Any suggestions?BD: Suggest you RTTF in the AC Hotels thread back about 10-15 pages, or PM one of the AC regulars on the board. You have a whopping 34 posts in 3 years, almost no detailed FR's, and you've asked more questions on the latin american boards than you've posted descriptive FR's (no-no's on this board). We call this 'taking-without-giving'; you seem to be using the board to get info about the best hotels / discos / chicas on upcoming trips, then not posting quality reports. If you visit phils, please grace us with some detailed reports.

I'm traveling alone, and I've never been to managua. How much is it to stay at the cristo rey? Is this where I should stay? Is it guest friendly? How far is it from the discos?

Why can't you answer the questions in a public forum? I don't want my credit card billed and tracked by a sex website.

Very true. Thanks. But where should I stay then? Center of action. Walking distance to bars and discos. And chica friendly?

How much is the cost for an hour with a chica? Where is the best pickup spot? Anyone ever stay at city suites? Is it chica friendly? PM me.

Sosua is my fav place in the world. Is anyone down there now. And heard any gossip about the kidnapping of two Canadians?

I am planning a trip in June for 2 weeks. I am looking for a one bedroom apt or hotel within walking distance of the best casas or discos. Any suggestions friends?

I am planning a trip to Tijuana next week. I've been to other mongering spots. I am looking for a safe hotel, chica friendly, in the center of the action. Thanks for the help.

Which hotels have room safes? And are close to the action. I want to try out bar girls, and street walkers near the hotel.

Greeting fellas. I am planning a trip for June. 2011. We are looking to stay in one of the 4 or 5 bedroom penthouses suites. Anyone have any advice or recommendations? How far from the action?

Anyone know any scoop on the old Banana Pepe's?

Hey guys. I'm looking for a hotel or apt to rent for a month which is chica friendly, walking distance, and large pool so I can swim laps for exercise in between sessions. Any suggestions?

Please be advised that there are two hotels with the name "Orchid" in them, one is the Orchid Inn Resort on Raymond St (which is the one that Dcups and I are recommending). There is also the Wild Orchid Resort on Santos St. I personally have never stayed at the Wild Orchid Resort, but I have seen it from the outside and it appears nice enough. I think that the same hotel group owns both the Orchid Inn Resort and the Wild Orchid.

If you stay at the Wild Orchid Resort, it is almost directly across the street from Blow Row on Santos.

If your two choices are Wild Orchid Resort and Clarkton Hotel, I would take the Wild Orchid Resort any day of the week. HTH

May I know where you got a cheaper price, please?MM didn't get a cheaper price, the "super duper special for ISG members only" rate he got is the same that's given to several travel sites like Agoda; it's going to vary a little bit when you look at it in USD due to the exchange rate. All hotels have what they call a "rack" rate, which is their standard published rate and they discount it from there depending on various factors.

with the deal i negotiated for you guys, if you stay anywhere but the penthouse and you are spending over $50 a night then you just don't want to live like a king. for a extra $25 dollars a day it is a completely different experience. check out the executive room and then the 14th floor and make your decision. only $75 to live like a king! i moved back there because life is too short!another and imho a better option is the new queens hotel, which opened around mid october 2013, great location and very quiet.

last november, i had checked into another place and wasn't crazy about it (la teresita; 1br condo that had no aircon in the living room, only upstairs in the bedroom and the place was very noisy as well as infested with sugar ants) so i decided to look for other accommodations. abc and lewis grand were booked so i checked out the penthouse hotel, but opted for the queens. in part due to price, but also because the resto at the penthouse wasn't open yet (i like to get room service from time to time) and the bar / resto at the pool was also not up and running yet. in addition, the pool at the queens gets sun most of the day and i figured the water would be warmer, which imho it was.

furthermore i liked the executive balcony room better at the queens; it was larger, had a nice and large leather sofa in it (as opposed to 2 leather chairs at the ph) , the bathtub was separate from the shower and large enough for two to comfortably fit into it (unlike the funky egg shaped stone one at the penthouse). the rate at the time for an executive suite at the penthouse was 4, 480p (5, 600 less 20% soft opening promo) + 12% tax + 10% service charge; or 5, 520p per night all in.

an executive balcony suite at the queens was 4, 900p minus a 20% cash discount promo (or 10% for a credit card) , plus another 5% off as i stayed more than 16 nights, so the final price worked out to 3, 790p per night all in (their rack rate is net / all in, no extra tax or service charges).

the resto there is about as close to gourmet dining as you'll find in ac, i ate there few times and everything was excellent including the service. but be prepared to pay, it's not cheap. on average dinner for three (i usually had two girls staying with me) was around 1, 500 to 2, 000p and this was with the girls usually sharing a dinner entrée and just ordering an extra portion or two of rice + drinks or bottle of wine (decent selection, btw).

pros:

cleanliness: spotless, room cleaned daily;

bathroom: well lit, large with a good sized walk-in shower (big enough for me and three girls, lol) , good water pressure and very hot water; separate tub big enough for two or even three (i did have two girls in it with me one night, but they were both small and skinny, [insert big grin])

bed: california king, comfy mattresses, oversize pillows.

mini-bar / larger type fridge, fully stocked and a good selection, but like most hotels a bit overpriced (i had them empty it and re-stocked it myself) ;

oversize in room safe: easily handled a 15' laptop;

free wi-fi: good signal, relatively fast upload / download speeds;

staff: very friendly and helpful. 24 hour armed security at the front door plus a doorman / bellhop or two was also usually there;

naturally no issues bringing in girls (even 3 or 4) ;

air-con: worked well and was quiet, split type with a remote control;

plenty of closet / shelf space; separate desk / work space;

there was no extra key card deposit (had booked for 2 adults) ; get two cards as you will need the extra one to keep in the 'power slot' if you want to leave the room and keep the air-con running, but remove it if housekeeping is coming in as they will take and you'll need to get a new one (and get both re-coded to be safe) ;

heavy 'black-out' curtains;

the balcony, about 11sqm, had a table with 4 chairs and a reclining beach type lounge, the high and solid front wall allows privacy for nude sun bathing and other outdoor activities if you're so inclined (insert another big grin) ;

40+ inch tv with about 90 channels;

pool: large with jacuzzi, swim up pool bar;

fitness center; well equipped and clean;

in house travel agent / service center: can book day trips (posted prices were reasonable) , airport transport, etc (sorry, didn't think to ask about prices)

atm planned for the lobby, but not yet installed when i was there.

cons / gripes (and these were more of a personal nature for me) :

no coffee / tea service, so i went to sm and for 300p bought an electric kettle. i don't like to wait 30 minutes or longer for room service to bring a cup of coffee / tea or have to get dressed and run out somewhere to get it;

the shower only had the "rain shower" type shower head mounted to the ceiling, a hand held wall mounted type would have made a nice addition (there was one in the tub) ;

the halogen "spot light" type fixtures hanging over the nightstands were set too low and got really hot, i actually burned my hand once as i was reaching for something (i mentioned this to management, but it was not corrected during my stay, don't know if they fixed it yet which would have been easy as they hang from a cable mounted to the ceiling)

overall i was very pleased with my stay there and would certainly stay there again, but it would still be my second choice hotel in ac after the abc or the condo i like rent there at the bourbon street condotel (on santos st).

Everyone talks about the Penthouse before it was finished in its soft opening. Those opinions are moot because nothing was finished. Online deals from Agoda or other sites are only available for certain dates. If you use "promo code: master monger" you get the normally 5000+ Peso room for only 3400 pesos everything included, and cheaper if you stay over a week. For the 3400 peso price there is no competition in Angeles. Every girl I took to the 14th floor said Oh my god when they saw the view, you can see everything up there. 24 hour everything at the Penthouse, food, pool, jacuzzi, bar, everything plus the bar and restaurant is good and cheap for a hotel. 200-499p for good food and cheap drinks. Take a girl to eat in another hotel that is close to the same quality be prepared to spend 2 or 3 times more. Steam Showers cool Marble Tubs, very modern design. Cool Shag carpeting. All you have to do is send an email to reservations@penthousehotel.com With your name and dates you would like to stay then write Promo Code: Master Monger in the title or first line and they will give you 3400 or less, pay cash or card, no additional charges. Now if you want to stay cheap, like under 1400 pesos a night, then send me an I'm and I will hook you up, but it is not as impressive or nice as the Penthouse.

I know some monger stay in a high end hotel to impress the girl more and more big spender are coming to AC, there are more high end place opening in AC for the rich Singaporean and korean, hotel like Pacific breeze and Devera is good enough for me but I might stay there one night to check it out.

Fast Eddie 48Its nice to have choice though. Usually Valentino's or Central Park is all I need for a couple of day's of promiscuous debauchery. After 3 days of non stop sex I need to go recuperate somewhere else. As for impressing the sex workers? Ha? Do any of you guys do things to impress your hair stylist or manicurist? Nope I thought not. Sometimes if I feel like spoiling myself I may book a high end hotel but its certainly not done for the benefit of the GRO's.

AVSame. I've heard guys in fancy hotels say the girls are so impressed, girls don't like cheap charlies, etc. I never cared what they thought. Girls don't seem to care as long as they are getting their barfine. I tip a whopping p50, and give returnees 500, and stayed at Central Park. Yet, they keep returning!

I never stayed at CP. I should add that the front rooms of Valentino's looks out at a massive construction project. I did like the mirrors at V's.

My policy is to review any 'n all hotels. As long as it isn't my fav. I'm selfish that way. LOL.

But PJ has let the cat out of the bag, so I'll add some pictures. My pics of are of the cheapest room, which doesn't include the black chairs and/or sofas. It was a bit under 3k. As PJ says, the restaurant has some great, despite expensive, food: Italian with a bit of Hawaii fusion. I did like the restaurant at the old location, where the chef came out and had a chat with me about his move to a new hotel. I won't repeat the name of the hotel. Rtff (didn't I say I'm selfish?) I just wanted to give some of my impressions of the Penthouse and Queen's Hotel since I just stayed there.

The Penthouse looks very nice from the outside and in the lobby. I didn't think the room setup was all that. I don't think there was a lot of thought on how they were going to set up the rooms, but it is what is for now. The lighting in the bathroom was ridiculous. You could barely see in the mirror if you wanted to shave yourself. The bathroom has no wall separating the bedroom. It is clear glass. Then you have a shower with a clear glass door and a toilet with a clear glass door. All visible from the bed. There was no light in the toilet area if you wanted to read. The switches were confusing as hell in regards to the lights. The bed was very comfortable so kudos to that. The hot water and shower were excellent. The television seemed kind of small for the distance from bed to tv. Waits for elevators can be a little long at times. I think they made a mistake putting their offices up on the top floor as it's just going to cause more wear and tear on the elevators faster and hog them up. What bothered me mostly is that the rooms are not quiet on the Santos side. I'm a light sleeper, but even if I weren't, there's no denying that there is a lot of trike noise that comes thru those windows. The blackout curtains are very good though. I figure the best side will eventually be on the side where Central Park is or was depending on what they name it in regards to noise once the construction is done. I don't think this hotel will hold up well over time. The people working were all polite. The internet in the room worked fine. There was not one chair in the whole room unless you count the toilet. There was no table to sit at, no desk.

I am with Pip in a lot of ways on Queen's. It's great if you are a light sleeper at least on the pool side that I slept on. I doubt the front is real loud either as it's not a big traffic area. The bed was not so good as Penthouse, but it was still nice. The bathroom was fantastic. It was well lit and great hot water. The internet was fine also. They have a modest gym in the hotel with mainly cardio equipment and some free weights along with some type of universal system. It's better than nothing and good enough to get some work in if you are too lazy to go to an actual gym. The restaurant is excellent if you are looking for fine dining. They have offerings of dishes you normally would not see in a restaurant there. They have different menus for breakfast lunch and dinner. They have cheaper local food on offer for some of your acquaintances you choose to take there but you have to ask them about it as it wasn't on the menu a month or so ago. Dinner is the most expensive there. The food was excellent. The chef is the owner and he is there all the time I believe right now so quality remains high for now. I don't think the restaurant is 24 hours. Maybe it closes around 1 or 2 am. The finish work is obviously better than that of Penthouse. The elevators are real funky. The people working there were very nice also.

If noise and modesty like private time in the toilet aren't an issue for you, then Penthouse is fine. I personally like to sit in a chair at a table or desk once in awhile to eat or work on my laptop. I don't like eating on my bed. For my tastes, Queen's was very nice. The location is right there also. Very easy. I think the real test on how this hotel thing shakes out is when the old Central Park opens. They are going to have so many rooms.

Hello members,

Planning my trip for this summer to AC. Times are tough right now so I am trying to spend less on accomodation and getting cheaper flight to splurge more on girls, meals and girls. As long as I get a decent sized room, clean and with adequate ammenities then I will be happy to forgo the luxury of the LGH where I have stayed on my past visits.

I hear the old Hana hotel has had a revamp and is now called the Perth Garden Hotel. Had a look at their website (perthgardenhotel. Com) and and would be interested in their suite room, very cheap at 1700. Discounted, for cash payment.

Does anyone have any recent experience with the hotel under new managment?

Did read back some pages and searched the thread but could not find any info about Perthgarden Hotel.

You seem like a nice enough guy. But, WTF? Rtff.

Penthouse glass has been reported. I cringe as well, but the reality, there is no reason for her to admire your fat, balding, old, wrinkly body sitting on the throne. It is you who would probably press your face and / or camera to the class while she takes a little whiz.

An excellent review of Q was reported by the guy who showed great modesty by saying,"sorry if I sound like a dck.". I subsequently posted some pictures of the hotel. X.

Overall I like Queens but somehow don't find the beds very comfortable. There are considerably cheaper places in AC that have much better ones, like the Boomerang up on Perimeter. But what I'm really looking forward to is the new Central Park, which looks almost finished. Knowing the old staff there, I think they might immediately become the best choice down at the Fields end of town.

Before the "revamp", I stayed in a very large room near the pool. It had three beds so it may have been the "family room". Even if it has not been remodeled. 1700 (current suite price) is a good price for a large room and a place with a pool. The pictures do show that they've made some improvements, but the photography of the rooms leads a lot to be desired.

THis place is out on perimeter. I think it's around the corner from the gas / petrol station (Petronas?). I would not recommend the smaller rooms (at least not before the revamp). X.

I stayed at the Orchid Inn in March 2014. I chose it because I wanted a long pool. It turned out to be only 48 feet, not that long, but ok for a half hour of laps.

The place has a pleasant atmosphere, low buildings, relaxed feel. It is not very polished. Walking through the corridors (e. G. From the reception to the pool area) feels a lot like going to the toilet in an English pub, low ceilings, yellowed paint, brick tiles, a slight smell of decades of parties (beer, cigarettes). As others have noted there is some noise from the big building project next door. But it is only during the daytime and didn't bother me.

It is nice to be in the annex at the back, on a narrow, intimate, leafy lane. You can cross back into the main complex across the lane or via a walking bridge on the second floor. Rooms need a new stroke of paint. There were big mirrors at the end of the bed, not optimally placed but possible to admire oneself if one were at the end of the bed. There was a resident cockroach in my bathroom. The cleaning staff were great."You want four fresh towels every day? No problem." There is a guard at the doorway to the annex. Every time a girl leaves he calls up the room to check that everything is ok. When I brought in my fourth girl on one day he gave me a smile and thumbs up.

Most of the guests seem to be 50-70 year old guys who do not exercise a lot, some of them with seemingly steady Pinoy wives / girlfriends, some also with children.

I also dropped by Wild Orchid, which is on Blow Row / Santos Street, also 100 metres from the densest part of Fields Ave. Walking street part. It was a bit more expensive and seemed like a nicer hotel. Worth it if you have the cash. I noted the discussion here on the forum a while ago about whether it is worth impressing the girls with a fancy hotel and room. Personally I think it can be nice to bring her back to a nice place.

Its out on Perimenter Road. Actually it should be just on the back of the Lewis Grand Hotel but access is a bit further up. One needs to take a turn at the petrol station and go into that road running more or less paralel to Perimeter Road.

Exactly my thoughts, a redone room and a pool in a more or less quiet place for that price is not bad. Hopefully by the time I will arrive the renovtions will be all over.

I was in town in March for just a few days and decided to stay at ABC Hotel again. I know it is more expensive compared to other AC hotels but the money really is invested in the service of the staff, something I needed for my supposed busy work days.

The rooms are their usual cleanliness but really do have an annoying aroma from too much airfreshner. Then again, I guess there is a lot of DNA exchange that takes place in these rooms. Apparently the hotel was 'full' but again I didn't notice as checkin / checkout they have available front desk staff. Seems to be up to four staff available.

The massage girls continue to smile politely and greet me as I walked past their desk each time. For P700 for an in room basic massage I still feel I can do better down the road.

Free drink voucher is for the skybar on the roof of the second set of units that were built. It has nice fake grasss and a nice view. The ladies / hostess in this bar are also friendly and easy on the eye.

Front door staff are always plentiful and treat the ladies with respect. I think I've been there too often as some of the boys know my by name. The pickup / drop off service is well worth it. No haggling with trike drivers and no tips. The ABC drivers ferry me to and pick me up from whichever bat I find myself. It's nice to be able to stay inside a bar and walk out to the awaiting car.

I did notice that the room amentities have decreased a little. Seemed to be a shortage of new soap after Day 1. I also think that mouthwash used to be available in the bathroom but that is also missing now.

This completes my fourth stay in the past 12 months. Roll on for my next visit which can't come soon enough.

I understand many do not like the idea of leaving their key / card at the front desk when they leave but I very much appreciate this option. The less crap I have to carry around the better I feel. If you were to lose it there are no identifying marks on it to trace it back to the Queens Hotel however if you are convinced you will be getting so shit faced the likelihood is great the key will be lost I'm sure the ladies at the front desk will oblige you in holding it for you.

Just got back from AC not too long ago. My friends and I got rooms at a smaller hotel called Valentino's that we found on Agoda. The cost was about $65 per night but the rooms were very clean, good size, as the hotel is not too old. I thought it was an excellent value. The location is very central to all the main action. I would definitely stay again. Lastly, across the street, there is a giant hotel under construction that will open either this year or next year. Looks like it will be nice.

Poor sheets make for poor sleep.

I stayed at Valentinos in Angeles City for four nights in February 2014. I chose it because of the location and their web site. Valentinos is located two blocks south of Fields Avenue and between Raymond and Santos.

I requested a pickup at Clark Field and Valentinos's SUV picked me up for 400 pesos. The taxi mafia wants 500.

The thing I liked about Room 205 was that the view, to the south, was of trees and grass. In this area, it is a nice view.

Room 205 is a walk up, no elevator. There is a tiny round table for dining and a bench along the wall. The bed was okay. The lighting is peculiar. Only the four corners are lighted.

It was not until the fourth night I realized why I was sleeping poorly, even with sleep aids like antihistamine and melatonin. The sheets are low in cotton content. Essentially one is sleeping wrapped in plastic. So my skin was perspiring the whole time.

There is breakfast and lunch available at the bar. I think they also deliver to the room. I did not try.

There is no gym or business center. WiFi is included.

Within 20 meters of Valentinos two high-rise hotels are nearing completion. That shows you the location is nice. Some re-design might make Valentinos more attractive.

StudFucket must be a heavy sleeper since he doesn't mind construction across the street. LOL. I suppose these late stages of construction are a lot quieter than when I did a review of V's a few years ago.Yes, the construction was not in full fledge, we saw only a few workers the times we were there (less than ten) and they were working on the back side of the new hotel so we could not hear. There were 4 of us total with separate rooms, and none of us complained about the noise. So perhaps there was definitely more construction or heavier noise but the rebar is up, framing is up, and there was no jack hammering so maybe we were there at a good time. I have been to Rio de Janeiro and Makati, and sometimes the car noise actually was a nuisance depending on if you staying on a busy street. Not saying that Valentinos is the place to be though. I would have rather spent up to $100 and had a better hotel. Any comments on the Penthouse hotel for this price range? Is it nice?

I requested a pickup at Clark Field and Valentinos's SUV picked me up for 400 pesos. And here's the thing: if there's more than one of you they're picking up at the same time, they charge EACH of you the full fare. Not a big deal, I suppose, but it pissed me off because I was off the plane quickly (as one does when arriving in AC) and then we had to wait a good half hour for the other guy.

Since then I've given my business to hotels like the Clark Imperial that provide free airport transport provided you're staying a certain minimum number of days. Or just grab the P50 aircon jeepney.

And yeah, the sheets at Valentino's suck.

I have been to AC multiple times, usually visiting for a minimum of 20 days each stay. I have stayed at Wild Orchid Resort, Savannah Resort Hotel, Royal Amsterdam and Penthouse. In each of these hotels I take the room one level above the standard. My review is based on my preference of newer, modern hotels, with big clean bathrooms and king beds. Royal Amsterdam is the exception and I only stayed there for only four days.

On my last three trips I have stayed exclusively at the Penthouse. I was there in 2013 in late August into mid-September, late October into November and most recently mid-February to mid-March 2014. I have been able to track the improvements of Penthouse along the way. This hotel has so much potential and some drawbacks. But the drawbacks are those of a new hotel shaking out the kinks.

My first visit to Penthouse last August-September was during construction of the hotel itself and the construction of a hotel next door and in front of Valentino's. It was Penthouse's soft opening, so I knew there would be plenty of bugs to workout. No elevators, no pool, no restaurant, and plenty of construction issues in the rooms they booked. But the staff was top of all issues when brought to their attention. They wanted the feedback and sought it constantly. Overlooking those problems, if you could deal with the noise and dust, for the price ($50 a night) and location it was a great deal.

My next visit to Penthouse was late October-mid November. Still in soft opening mode, but less issues with the hotel. Still no restaurant or pool. Elevators were running and construction had progress rather rapidly in the hotel. But you had construction noise in the hotel and outside. But the price was great ($50 a night) , location was perfect and customer service was top notch. Thanks to Lewis Grand training I surmise. Again, hotel management wanted feedback and moved immediately to correct any issues brought to them.

Finally, I visited the hotel when it was in full operational mode early this year. Big improvement all the way around, but remember it is a hotel that has just opened so they still has some bugs to workout. The pool area on top of the hotel is gorgeous. The food is not bad. The bar is not a bad place if you want to grab a drink while waiting to meet friends.

Pros:

1. Location, location, location. If being in the middle of everything is important, this hotel places you there. If left the bars with nothing on my arm, it was so easy to make a quick pick up from Blow Row, just outside the front steps of the hotel. Those girls aim to please. But beware, the girls will get to know you and wait for you to come back to the hotel each night. But they are very respectful. If they see you with a lovely lady, they will say nothing. If they see you are alone, all bets are off. They will call out to you repeatedly wanting to make you happy for the night. It was comical and fun at times. There were times I would chat with the Blow Row girls, go to the room only to call the Blow Row spot and tell them to send a girl up. Loved that special delivery option.

2. The bed is the best I have been in AC. I have spoken with others who have stayed at Penthouse, ABC and Fields Plaza Suites and all say hands down the bed is unbelievable. Only Savannah Resort Hotel came close to the bed at Penthouse.

3. The bathroom. Clean bathrooms are very important to me. I really like the bathroom at the Penthouse. Of course what's not to like about a brand new bathroom. The plus of this bathroom is a large shower, separate from the toilet area. Each has its own door. The water pressure is forceful with removable shower heads. You can also turn the shower into a steam room, with controls outside the shower area often near the bathtub. The vanity is standard. The entire area is glass enclosed. In the rooms that I have been in, including mine and four other room types while visiting my friends in their rooms, you will find various bathroom floor plans. You have a floor plan where the clear glass shower door and the clear glass toilet door face each other, but can't be seen from the bed or chair. In that configuration there is no privacy in the toilet if someone is in the shower. Then there are floor plans where the shower and toilet glass doors are visible as you walk in the room. But in these instances the toilet doors are frosted, so they are not totally see through. There a couple floor plans where the shower and toilet are side-by-side and the toilet doors are not frosted.

4. Customer Service. On a five star scale, they receive five stars. From the time you are greeted until you leave they attempt to satisfy your every need. Housekeeping is available 24 hours a day. Front desk personnel are the most courtesy and helpful I have seen. If they don't know the answer they will make sure to get it for you, quickly. If they are not empowered to resolved an issue, they will get the person who is pronto. Always smiling and always quick to help.

Cons:

There are somethings that still need to be worked out, and the hotel management has assured guests, including me that they are moving to fix some of them. Among them:

1. No soap dishes in the shower. They are being installed room-by-room, floor-by-floor.

2. Bathroom flooding from the shower. You have to be careful with the shower because you can easily flood the bathroom floor. Again, a slight design flaw, but once you get to know the shower you can learn how to keep the water in.

3. Lighting in the toilet area. This is a design flaw, that I am not sure is being addressed immediately. The lighting is really dim. If you have a iPad, Kindle or other such device, this is not much of a problem. But if you prefer magazines or newspapers, forget it. Best do your business and go.

4. Lighting in the vanity area. Could better, it's not a problem during the day when you can open the curtains and the sunlight fills the room. At night could be more problematic fi you are attempting a close shave.

5. Faint sewage odor at times in the toilet area. This is not a persistent problem, but the hotel is awaiting permits to turn on its own sewage treatment facility.

6. No chair in the standard room. I could understand no table or desk but at least place a chair in the room. In the executive room there is a chair and a small nightstand like table.

On the fence:

1. Television. Could have more and a better selection of channels.

2. Wifi is inclusive, but can be spotty at times.

Overall, I would recommend the Penthouse as a quality place to stay. But that recommendation comes with this caveat, check the price.

I continue to stay there because of the quality and the PRICE break. They are running a midweek special. A 30 percent discount Mon, Tues and Wed. Off the rack rate. If you are a customer staying over 7 days, you are entitled to 10 percent of the other days. A stay of more than 21 day gives you a 20 percent discount off the rack rate on the other days. With the discounts you are getting a high class hotel in the middle of the action on Fields.

Without the price breaks, and if you are looking to spend $100 or slightly more, I would look at Fields Plaza Suites. If you don't mind being off down the strip just a bit, ABC seems to be a good bet.

I will be making a return trip in a few weeks. I will stay at the recently opened Score Birds for a few days, before moving to Penthouse. I will also stop by Queens to look at their facility.

StudFucket must be a heavy sleeper since he doesn't mind construction across the street. LOL. I suppose these late stages of construction are a lot quieter than when I did a review of V's a few years ago.X Man,

Construction is much quieter on the hotel across the street from Penthouse and in front of Valentino's. I was their late last year and earlier this year. The difference is amazing. Last year there was not a concrete street. Now it's paved, cutting down tremendously on the dirt and dust. Seems like most of the work on the hotel is now being done inside. Occasionally, you will hear jackhammering, but for a construction site that close I get a pretty decent sleep.

before my crazy trip to phils, i decide to research few hotels that looked interesting, most of which were compared from a budget traveler's perspective and some for a 'day-in-the-sun', so to speak. my other reasoning was to acquire a personal barometer range of hotels from high-to-mid-to-low, so that in the event of a subsequent trips, i could plan accordingly. much of the undertaking proved fruitful, but i wouldn't recommend 'hotel hopping', for the faint of heart. looking back on this trip, i probably did more 'hotel hopping' than bar hopping on fields ave.

angeles city hotels i researched:

my 1st tier considerations:

• apartelle royal | 2 stars | very good 7. 7 (23 reviews) | agoda: us$29. $50 | www.apartelleroyal.com | only 14 rooms, book early, v. nice clean, spacious mid-size to large rooms, w / modern decors. jacuzzi room has bathtub, but only 1 jacuzzi room. jacuzzi, exec rooms have dvd & microwave ovens | located on fields ave above camelot go-go bar.

• devera hotel | 3 stars | very good 7. 6 (406 reviews) | agoda: us$40. $80 | www.deverahotel.com | 72 rooms, v. nice small to mid-size rooms, w / nice decors and hot tubs in exec jacuzzi rooms | loc. close to clark sm mall and perimeter road.

• affinity condo resort | 4 stars | good 7. 5 (520 reviews) | agoda: us$34. $60 | www.affinitycondominiumsresort.com | only 23 rooms, book early, v. nice mid-size to large rooms, good decors, and all units have kitchens (ie, w / kitchenettes & microwave ovens. see website). possibly more family oriented hotel | loc. on sofia st. 2-3 blocks from fields ave / perimeter road, and 1-block in f / narciso ave, (the road located next to the eurotel hotel).

my 2st tier considerations:

• tune hotel | 3 stars | good 7. 5 (2669 reviews) | agoda: us$25. $58+ | www.tunehotels.com | 165 rooms, small rooms, mid-size bathrooms, modern decor | located on perimeter road. a bit far from the go-go bar action. two (2) restaurants and a 7-11 only 1-block away.

• orchid inn resort | 2. 5 stars | good 7. 1 (300 reviews) | agoda: us$34-78+ | http://www.agoda.com/orchid-inn-reso.-clark-ph.html | 84 rooms, small-to-midsize rooms, older decor | located on raymond st. very close to the field ave. go-go bar action and many restaurants.

• queen's hotel | 4 stars | fantastic 8. 0 (my personal review) | website: p2990. p4990 (us$68-115) | www.queensangeles.com | 54 rooms, v. nice, midsize-to-large w / varying modern professional and executive decors, with lots of extras. they give cash payment discounts (10% or more for 3-days plus. check w / front desk). more luxury rooms get a bigger discount. staff / reception were very nice. | loc. 1-block off fields ave, on constain st (angel witch / sky trax disco) , close to go-go bar action. quiet location.

• angeles beach club hotel | 4 stars | fantastic 8. 9 (452 reviews) | agoda: us$115. $225+ | www.angelesbeachclubhotel.com | 90 rooms, midsize-to-large w / varying chic to modern decors | loc. next door to pony tails and other perimeter road. go-go bars, devera hotel and sm mall. a little expensive, but perhaps good for a 1-nighter, if you found a great girl to celebrate with. apparently the girls love this hotel.

my 3st tier considerations:

• sun moon hotel | 3 stars | above avg. 5.1 (3 reviews) | agoda: us$18. $25+ | hourly rates: 2hr-p200, 4hr-p300, 6hr-p500, 12-hr-p800 | www.sunmoonhotel.com.ph | 13 rooms, mid-size rooms w / older bland decor | located on about 1-block from zen fields hotel, eruptions and emotions go-go bars, off perimeter road. ok for short time stay, budget and backpacker type travelers. loc at the back of an alley. didn't really appeal to me upon looking at the lobby (1-min view f / lobby).

• zen field hotel | 2 stars | pleasent 6. 4 (7 reviews) | agoda: us$20. $30+ | hourly rates: 2hr-p250, 3hr-p350, 4hr-450 | http://www.agoda.com/zenfields-hotel.-clark-ph.html | tel: (045) 436. 9391/0915 | 29 rooms, mid-size rooms w / older bland decor | located on about 1-block from eruptions and emotions go-go bars, off perimeter road. | located on about 1-blocks from sun moon hotel, and 2-blocks from eruptions and emotions go-go bars, off perimeter road. ok for short time stay, budget and backpacker type travelers. very basic hotel, but offer great rates if you're a budget traveler. don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed and maybe presently suppressed. decent enough place to stay if in a pinch (2-min tour).

• genesis | 1 stars | below avg. 4.9 (my personal review) | p1400. p2500+ | website: unknown | tel: (045) 436. 9391/0915 | unknown number of rooms, small rooms w / older bland decor | from the 2-min tour, ok but older hotel, with older decor, musty smell and no elevator, so way too many stairs to climb, if you're placed on the top floor. loc. on fields ave, a few doors down from jj's supermarket. promo rates of p$1200 (standard). only use in case of emergencies. i would even consider the backpacker hotels over this one.

angeles city hotels i stayed at:

apartelle royal: located atop of camelot go-go bar, it has 14 nice midsize to very large rooms. these spacious rooms, have most everything, including a jacuzzi tube, in the one (1) executive suite i took a standard deluxe room (p1590) and included a 32" flat-screen tv, wi-fi, air-con, fridge / mini-bar, lots of snacks, extra special toiletries, and a security safe. although the cable selection (3-movie channels) was good and the flat-screen tv large enough, the screen quality left something to be desired. i found it difficult to view the blacks hues and fuzzy tv reception on certain channels. bathrooms are clean, but the slightly dated bathroom decor could do with an update.

the noise from the camelot go-go bar maybe a problem with certain rooms and now that the building of a new hotel has begun next door, expect some daytime noise as well. both times i stayed here, i took a room away from the noisier areas and which proved satisfactory for my level of tolerance. reception staff are very friendly and helpful, but without a room phone you have to walk all the way back to reception to ask questions or resolve problems. arrh yes, those dreaded stairs. oh those stairs! for those of you that are adverse to exercise, may i suggest another hotel.

• pros: pretty good price-to-value combination at p1590 / day. online email / phone reservation system (with no upfront payment vs. booking with agoda). spacious party rooms with large chairs and coffee table. close proximity to fields ave go-gos, margarita station, joliebees and jj supermarket.

• cons: those dreaded stairs, no in-room phone, old bathroom decor and fuzzy tv reception (but none of these are a real deal breaker).

• recommendation: nice little hotel (albeit a little dated) , with generous spacious, secure rooms and an excellent location. would definitely stay here again, although you must book early, as it a popular hotel, with many ac travelers and has only 14 rooms. apartelle royal. email: reservation@apartelleroyal.com. tel (04) 458. 0623, cell: (63) 998. 274. 6728.

tune hotel: with 165 rooms, this chic modern hotel is located on perimeter road, a fair distance from the fields ave go-go bar action. while a little closer to the perimeter road. go-go bar action, it is still a bit of a trek (about a 15-20 min. walk just to pony tails). i took a 'no frills' double room (p1200) for a few days, which included 32" flat-screen satellite cable / tv, wi-fi (limited usage) , air con and a security safe. the room was very clean, with an unusually large modern bathroom (which i really liked) and a good sized double bed. flat screen tv, is of a poorer quality and viewing is difficult with the blacks hues. tv reception on is a little fuzzy and the list of cable stations is not bad, but different cable / channels depending on what room you get.

the rooms lacks a size (in general) , a fridge / mini-bar, closets, adequate shelving and storage to unpack ones baggage. all of which is a shame, because the room has a really clean comfy modern touch to it. lots of light, airy feel and a nice view. one of the great things about this hotel is the 2 floor reception. basically, what this means is,"no walk of shame" for you or your gf. or at best, it's kept to a minimum. once you come in the front doors on the ground level, you are taken straight to your floor and no other guests (or reception staff) need see you or your gf. at first i didn't think this was so great when i was checking in. but soon realized afterwards, with my gf (in her tight sexy slutty outfit) hand-in-hand, heading into the elevator, it was a brilliant idea. this is a great idea and more hotels should do it.

trike or jeepney will be needed to get to the go-go bar action on fields ave or perimeter road. at first i was spending p100 each way on a trike (which soon became pretty expensive) and then i wised-up and started taking jeepneys for p8, which i found to be just as good, but will stop frequently to pick-up passengers along fields ave / perimeter road. so although it's a bit far from the action, on the upside the area is little quieter. there is a 7-11 and two (2) restaurants about 1-block away (one below the tune hotel and one in the savanha hotel) and both do takeout orders. can't say i liked that staff at reception and thought they were a bit cold and curt towards me, for some reason when checking-in and at one other time.

• pros: very good price-to-value combination at p1200 / day. nice clean modern hotel. pay-for-what-you-use type concept that accommodates most budget travelers. premium power showers, large bathroom, nice size comfy bed. quieter location, modern decor and no walk of shame.

• cons: tight small room, no fridge / mini-bar, no phone, inadequate storage for personal clothes and items and a bit far from the action.

• recommendation: would definitely stay here again. probably one of the best options for budget travelers, who still want the style and comfort of a hotel. and they really do give "a 5-star sleeping experience at a 1-star price." http://www.tunehotels.com/my/en/concept/. note: booking through agoda seemed cheaper.

devera hotel: this was one of my favorite hotels. with 72 rooms, this great little hotel is located on basically at the start of perimeter road and the end of fields ave. and therefore situated perfectly for the go-go bar action in both directions. i stayed in a junior standard (p1200) , a standard (p1350) and a superior (p1500) room and there is very little difference in size. also noted, when housekeeping were doing their rounds, i saw very little difference in size, with any of the rooms. these small sized rooms include a 32" flat-screen tv, wi-fi, air-con, fridge / mini-bar, lots of snacks and a security safe. the rooms had a nice decent decor and were clean, but bathrooms had a little paint peeling / water damage on the walls. good sized double bed and list of cable stations is not bad and the flat screen tv / reception is ok. the staff at the reception desk / doorman were fantastic. they were the most courteous, polite and well mannered staff, i've ever encounter. almost to a fault.

located next door to the devera, is pony tails, lune time, show time and varia asia go-go bars. for those whose have come to enjoy perimeter road action as i did, uniquely means, it is situated nicely to take advantage of the perimeter road. bars and all the great daytime / early evening go-go bar action. also next door, is the eurotel hotel and the abc hotel. i enjoyed the nice view from the roof top restaurant, while sipping on my 1-free drink. it is open tuesday thru sunday and does provide room service.

• pros: very good price-to-value hotel at p1200 (for jr. std. room promo if you can get it). clean modern updated hotel and rooms. central location to both fields ave / perimeter road. bar action. very friendly and courteous staff. online email / phone reservation system (with no upfront payment vs. booking with agoda).

• cons: small rooms, small bathrooms, fuzzy tv.

• recommendation: would definitely stay here again. great value hotel and they have terrific promotional deals. tel: (045) 892. 3847, cell: 0932. 854. 4306/0928. 505. 0441

Dropped by Central Park Tower to check out the rooms. I was shown two room types, one with a bath tub and the other without. The room outside the bathroom were similar. Granite tile floor, king size bed, mini fridge, a chair with an ottoman and nice spacious desk with a chair. Very nice hotel. They are currently in soft opening mode and rooms are 2,500 and 2,700 pesos. If you can handle a little construction noise, it is an opportunity to check out the newest hotel near Fields.

Howdy all,

Just came back from a 3-week trip. Went all over the Philippines, but spent a lot of time in AC. I stayed at four different places. Here are my thoughts on three of them; the fourth was ABC and there is already a ton of information on that hotel so I won't bore you with additional similar info. These three aren't mentioned much so I thought I would add it in. Just to give you guys more options. I liked the format and reports from Spidy so I thought I would do something simliar. Hopefully you guys find this useful.

Apollonia Reserved through agoda for approx. $30/ night. Seems like a new place. The rooms were immaculate, good water pressure, solid bed, overall a very nice room. The staff was extremely friendly: from the security guard up front (who calls trikes if you need them) to the front desk girls (they call you in the room anytime your "guest" leaves). Even had breakfast there in the tiny restaurant off the lobby-pretty good and prices were not that bad. As far as location, it is a block further from fields / Juico than La Teresita, corner of Felicitas and Federico (off Teodoro St). Most girls (and drivers) had no idea where this was, however; if you get onto Teodoro, you can see the big "Apollonia" sign on the building in the distance. Easy to find from there. Although my friends thought it was a bit far, I thought it was good. I could take the back roads and come out on Raymond (avoiding the beggars and traffic on Juico). Teodoro also has a money exchanger, Laundromat (good service by the way) and if you head to Juico, the pharmacy, 7-11, and JJ's market was all right there. (there is a smaller grocery store on Teodoro). The distance off the main road made this place very quiet (loved it).

Pros: Clean, new, inexpensive, very good value for the $$. Staff was excellent and friendly. Once you are off Juico (or on the back streets coming back from Raymond area) there is a significant drop in beggars and homeless makes the walk back a bit more pleasant.

Cons: Ok minor points: the AC was good, but in my friends room, it was aimed past the bed and towards the front door, so the room took a long time to cool down (mine was aimed low, almost parallel to the bed). Since they only gave 1 key per room, and since they had the typical power "slot" thing for the key, every time you left the room and took the key, the power would shut off (and therefore the AC) leaving the room very hot upon your return. Tried using one of my dive cert cards in the slot...did not work.

Final recommendation: I would absolutely return. The price (even the bigger rooms were relatively cheaper than the surrounding hotels) was good and it was quiet. A longer walk with "guests" from the bars but it was worth it to "get away" from the main drag and all the beggars (is it my imagination or are there tons more). Also as a note, walking up Teodoro towards Juico, I ran into a 2 boys who were trying (and failing) to be pickpockets they came up asking for "choco" while the bigger boy pushed the smaller boy into me (presumably as a distraction). I felt the touching of my pocket before I "accidentally" turned and put my elbow into his solar plexus (oops) I heard these guys are active on Santos and Fields during the day (before the police chase them away). This only occurred once so maybe it was a fluke.

Scorebirds A new hotel belonging to the dollhouse group. It is located on Vian St (parallel to Fields ave). It is new (some minor construction still going on) and very clean. Staff was friendly and efficient, although they had some minor problems with the credit card readers. Prices weren't bad. See website (http://www.scorebirds-ac.com/). I had the deluxe room: beautiful, immaculate, good water pressure, and very clean bathroom. They also have "short time" rooms (500 P for 3 hours) but did not get to see what they look like. Lobby has a "tropical" theme, but the rooms are more "modern". There is a laundry close by, and of course, you are very close to kokomoz and Fields and all of that. Pool area is nice, and they had a bikini contest while I was there.

Pros: Considering how close you are, the prices aren't bad for a basically brand new room. The elevator is around a wall from the lobby, right next to a side door, so those who are worried about the walk of shame, can come down from their room and slip out the side. Good location for the action. They seem to have events there from time to time if you are staying there, I guess you can just come out of your room and enjoy it for free (don't have to pay cover charge).

Cons: Still some minor construction going on. This hotel is behind high society so the thumping of the music was present throughout the night. The noise is muted a little (walls are concrete) but still very clear. I had no issues, but my friend complained that he had a hard time sleeping. The only other weird thing was that there was no door for the bathroom. So if you have butt trumpet issues with guests around, you will not be able to hide in there might be awkward for your guest to use the bathroom as well. Their restaurant is also new so not many items to eat but I suspect that will be corrected as time goes on.

Final recommendation: Its really not a bad place; its new and the prices are good. Mostly, you have to decide if you can handle the loud music from high society. I would stay there again mostly because of the "newness" and of course, the decent price. As a note of interest, I found out that the "dormitory" (for the girls) used by the dollhouse group (for sure Tropix, not sure about other bars) is right next door (and they have an open balcony overlooking the street). Maybe something for the bar butterflies to take into account.

La Teresita website:http://lateresitahotel.com/ About one block up from Apollonia, on Elisa St. We made no reservations; just walked in to see what was available based on a positive recommendation from a friend. The front desk girls showed us two rooms available one was a deluxe room (I think) and it was very nice. The other, which we ended up getting, was the "villa" a 2-bedroom townhouse, with kitchen (with stove, refrigerator, microwave, hot water heater, kitchen table, basic utensils & pots / pans) and living area (fan, TV, couch, lounge chairs). More trikes seem to know this hotel over the Apollonia (above). Location description is similar to the Apollonia, with moneychanger and laundry on Teodoro. Very convenient. The villa bedrooms had safes and very large closets, but only one room had a TV. The villa has a small outdoor "porch" in front of the door, with a table and chairs where you can look at the pool. There is a restaurant at the hotel, but we did not try it.

Pros: I thought the room was very nice, but we got the villa instead (there were 2 of us) because there were 2 separate bedrooms, but we still had a common living area (living room / kitchen). Did not fell like a hotel at all, it was as if I was renting a vacation home. The villa was 2500p so paid 1250 each for a townhouse. We ended up buying food and drinks (coffee, etc.) and had a "home cooked" breakfast (the girls loved cooking for us) each day instead of going out to a restaurant. Eating at our own kitchen table made it easier and more comfortable for all of us to sit together plan out our day - very nice. Just like Apollonia, its off the main roads, so its pretty quiet at night.

Cons: Couple of minor drawbacks. There was only one bathroom / shower so we had to share. I once ended up using the lobby toilet (30 seconds away and very clean) when my friend was taking a shower. The bathroom / shower is on the first floor, and the stairs to the second floor is steep rough to navigate when dark or when you are drunk. If you are one of those that need to get up frequently during the night to use the bathroom (my friend is one); leave the light on (all night) and be careful falling down those stairs would really suck. The other drawback was that there was no ACs in the living area only a fan (both bedrooms had AC though) so it was a bit hot in the living room. We ended up opening the windows and doors and it was not too bad. The second deck floors felt rickety (like I would fall through) and creaked a lot but maybe that is just because we are heavy.

Final recommendation: The front desk girls were very sweet and helpful. We asked for a bunch of things (bottle opener, extra plates / bowls, etc.) and they quickly provided everything we asked for. The villas are in a small building opposite the pool from the main building (with the entrance). I really liked the villas and it gave the stay a different feel, more like camping out. If you are travelling with a friend or in small groups, I think the villas are a great deal - you can all get together in the living room to talk story or hang out and you can't beat the price. Its clean and quiet.

Good hunting.

LB,

Very nice report indeed! Thank you for the detail investigative reporting on several new hotels I was not aware of in my investigations or on my daily strolls throughout AC. The hotels Apollonia, La Teresitawill definitely sound very interesting, and will add them to my list of considerations. Many thanks again!

This is my maiden trip to AC and I will definitely write my report similar to Spidy's style.

This is my maiden trip to AC and I will definitely write my report similar to Spidy's style.I am assuming you mean walking from Fields back to the Teodoro area hotels (La Teresita and Apollonia) - I walked back every night and always felt safe (except for the time we ran into a barking dog that had broke his chain. But he quickly lost interest as we crossed to the other side of the street). It looks far on the map, but its not really. Some establishments on the road are still open (even at 0400) so its not like you are wandering into a dead zone. I suggest you walk it during the day and check it out. If you feel comfortable try it at night during prime time and see how you feel. The trikes will charge you 100 P for the 1 minute ride if you are feeling lazy.

Enjoy your trip.

Right next door is Apartelle Royal. Last year when I was there I booked at p1500/ night ($35), and when I got there the clerk informed me they were running a promo at p1300 and they gave me that price. Royal has no elevator, so be prepared to climb 2 flights of stairs just to get to the check-in every time you enter / depart. Natalia has an elevator. Both offer wifi. I find it better to stay within walking distance of the action, so no trykes are needed.

On another site, Orchid Inn is advertising a special from "June 1 to July 1" with a 15% discount on "any room" if you pay cash. As I was heading up to AC today anyway and hadn't made a reservation anywhere, I e-mailed them about the promo and a reservation. The lying pricks informed that the promo was for Monday thru Thursday only and further advised that the 15% cash discount only applied to certain rooms. I politely inquired as to why their promo ad said "June 1 to July 1" and "any room" and received no response.

I followed up again today again inquiring about the discrepency between their ad that still remains posted and what they told me the promo really applied to. In the typically dishonest, shitty and slovenly way of doing Filipino business, I still have not received a reply to my 2 inquiries.

I stay at Orchid Inn about 3 times a year, mostly for the pool. That's ordinarly a 3 night stay. That's the last of my money the place will ever see. The American manager Dave must know that this ad is posted and that its not only misleading, its a e'ffing lie. Dave, you know me as we've had more than a couple drinks together. I hope your place gets a bad case of bedbugs.

Dude, all places have discounts. Just because someone has an add does not mean it is for everything. Las Vegas will give discounts thru the week but not on weekends so why should Angeles City be any different.

Its called advertising, it got you to call and find out the prices.

A) the conditions of the offer, or.

B) that there were additional conditions, and advised where / how to identify those additional conditions.

I know in some countries, failure to conform to these standards would carry penalties, but I don't know about PI.

But I think that the manager of Orchid Inn, would offer the discount unconditionally to Slippery, if advised of the stuff-up.

Just my POV.

Was there one night. Nice room and layout.

My drawbacks.

1. For you non-smokers the new rooms smell of smoke even thou they tell you they have non-smoker rooms.

2. Rooms on upper floors have an outside walkway to them. The guard rails are thin and sparse with big gaps in between. Maybe they are not finished yet, which I doubt. My point is, if you are afraid of heights, the guard rails are of no assurance.

3. Hi-tech elevator control panel that my province girl had trouble with.

The elevator had those new digital type "touch screen" buttons so you kind of swipe at it instead of pushing it. Its was like touching a poorly responding iPad or something. Everybody in my group took a couple of tries the first time. Bet that is what DG was talking about.

Most have never seen an elevator before let alone be above the second floor. Takes a while for some to understand room 711 is on floor 7 and to push the 7 button. This hotel's elevator has like a glass touchscreen with the numbers behind the glass, no buttons, numbers are kind of faint and not in a descending order. It took me a while to understand it.

I am taking my first trip to Philippines and have chosen to stay in Angeles City. I am looking for a hotel that is close to the action and girl friendly. I am assuming all the hotels are girl friendly. After reading the posts, I have narrowed it down to ABC or Lewis Grand. The Lewis Grand is a little bit cheaper, but the rooms look amazing and probably quieter at night. ABC looks like more fun and seems to be desired by more of the women. I expect to pay between $80 and $125 a night. I have traveled the world including San Jose, Costa Rica; Medellin, Colombia; Pattaya, Thailand; Beijing, China; Sydney, Australia; and all over Europe and many more. I am two continents away from dispensing my yogurt all over the planet. I want this trip to be memorable and where else but Angeles City. I am specifically looking for a hotel with the television unlocked so I can hook up my laptop and watch movies in the down time.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I've stayed in both so if you're soliciting opinions, then I'd say go with ABC. The only drawback to ABC, IMHO, is that the water in the pool tends to be colder then the LG as it doesn't get as much sun. Both are well built and the rooms are quiet, both offer shuttle service (though the ABC is closer to fields) and both have HDMI inputs on their TV's (both also have HBO, SHO, etc + ABC has a couple of porn channels).

Hope you enjoy your trip and we'll be looking forward to some FR's.

ABC vs Lewis Grand vs Wild Orchid.

I have stayed at ABC and Lewis. They are both very good. Both hotels are extremely GF, duh. Here is my comparison valuation:

ABC is a shorter walk to Fields. When I stayed there a few years back, ABC had pool girls for EWR (a big plus). ABC has the bordello decor. ABC rooms are a tad bigger with couches and all bathrooms have separate Jacuzzis (a plus). My advice is if you choose ABC over the LGH, stay in the new annex and enjoy the full benefit.

Lewis Grand has normal western decor airy rooms. The Lewis is cheaper. The Lewis restaurant is better (a plus). The Lewis pool is much, much, much better because the pool is 3 or 4 times larger than ABC's pool and in the sun most of the day. (A shading option is provided for every lounge chair.) In addition the Lewis pool patio surrounding the pool is 10 x larger than at ABC. So all in all the pool is a big plus for the Lewis. The Lewis permits guests to use the pool all night long. Just bring your own towels from your room.

You are more likely to encounter normal guests (Filipino families) at the Lewis, which is anthropologically interesting but otherwise not a plus although it is no big deal for me.

So in conclusion, prefer the LGH. ABC's new rooms and location is better, but ABC is significantly more money and the pool is too small and shaded which I do not like. There is not much to do in AC until late afternoon so a good sunny pool is required especially at this price point. ABC really dropped the ball when they did not design a roof top pool on their hotel annex.

Wild Orchid is another good option in AC. The Wild Orchard has the best location of the three hotels and a great pool, but the rooms are not quite as good as the LGH. If considering the Wild Orchard be sure to reserve a pool side room in the new building.

Just got back from my first A/C trip in August 2014 - 3 week trip.

I ended up staying at the Wild Orchid (4000 p for Lagoon Room Balcony after 10% long stay discount) for the 1st 2 weeks of my trip. Rooms were nice, Pool was great and the Service and Security were excellent. This hotel is the perfect location for the action and if money is no object I'd recommend Highly. While I was there they also offered a cash discount for the other side of the Hotel of 25% for August. So I took advantage of that my last week there. The Lagoon rooms are much nicer. But of course cost more.

*Tip* The Lagoon Rooms run on a card system, The other side of the hotel runs on a Key System. Taking the card or Key out of the room kills your room power so when you come back to your room it might be hot inside. You can get a 2nd card for the Lagoon room and leave the room powered, which allows you to come back to a nice cool room and a charged Ipad or Iphone!

I visited the Penthouse right across the street. About $10 more per night, OK pool. Better rooms. I chose to stay at the Wild Orchid because the pool was much nicer.

I also visited the Apollonia ($50/ night) decent rooms, no pool and location is an issue. It's a 10 minute walk to Fields and during the day it's probably ok but I'm not sure I'd want to walk down that street at night with a wad of cash on me. If you want to use a lot of trikes I'm sure it's OK.

I'm surprised they allow this as it jacks up their electric bill and because there are often electricity failures in the Philippines.

Personally I don't care much that the room is hot when I come back. Turn on the AC and the place is cool in just a few minutes.

And beside that saving energy is a good thing to do of course. It has become a second nature for me.

I have well over 1000 nights in hotels and probably more then 500+ in the Philippines in the last 10 years. I have rarely found any hotel in the Philippines (outside of 4 star Makati) where the air conditioner actually works properly. If I do get one set to accurately operate, I will never turn it off. The Pacific Breeze charges 200 P a day for utility key and I happily pay it.

I agree with Mogwai on this one. Save energy!I'm different. There can never be a time when my phone or laptop are down for charging (biz, which I take care of during the daytime mostly, but can demand attention anytime), hence extra charging / charged batteries (dirt cheap to purchase online) are needed to slap in on a moment's notice when a battery gets low. I've figured out ways to bust most every wall-inserted key system that turns power off. From extra strips of old credit cards cut to match key size / width, to bribing the cleaning crew to get an extra key when the front desk refuses to provide one (its amazing what a paltry p200 will get you, even in Manila), I'm rarely without power when I've left the room. I often turn off the aircon (or turn the temp up some, to reduce the time the compressor is cranking) while I'm gone, but the power strip must remain lit, and any hotel where I can't make that happen (rare) is off the list quickly. I don't like a cold room, but I also can't do a fan-only room.

For all the good and bad we've mentioned about Sampaguita Suites in Fuente (its a budget hotel), one of its pluses is that when removing the key from the wall, only the aircon and TV shut off; the wall outlets remain active.

Robb, you're absolutely correct, but you're missing the point. Or maybe you get the point and just want to harass us gentle tree huggers.

I don't want to "waste" energy if I can avoid it. Nor do I like to waste time or money. Flying to the Philippines is a relatively expensive hobby and jetliners are hell on the environment. These things are unfortunate and make me sad, but I like going to the Philippines. I like it a lot in fact.

Leaving the ac on for several hours just to avoid a few minutes of tropical heat seems wasteful. Using the same logic as you do, I could suggest that if you really want to avoid that tropical heat, you should avoid going to the Philippines.

Hotels are probably charging me more because of other people who increase the hotel's costs unnecessarily. Also, poor Westy, and many others, have this huge inconvenience of not being able to charge our rechargeable vibrators and other devices simply because hotels take these measure to reduce their costs.

But it is a losing battle. I do the Westy trick by inserting a card to keep my electricity on. Plug in the rechargers, turn off the ac, and leave the room. When I return twelve hours later the maids have let the AC on the Arctic setting. I race to the ac controls, but the sweat dripping off my face freezes before I can make it. Very uncomfortable. X.

Ouch. I think it's hard to get thru a day without finding something or someone you disagree with. But to dismiss someone with the "dumb" word is bad form. Robbaf quoted me, but him and I have exchanged a few messages here and there. I took no offense even though I know he's a bloody, energy wasting, swaggering, American. Not dumb though.

And, to stay remotely on topic I'd like to say that on my most recent flight out of Philippines I was able to take the brand-spanking new be-787 Dreamliner. This is an extremely energy-efficient airplane, especially when there are no unscheduled stops due to battery fires. I was seated next to an attractive East Asian woman who was friendly, but my PPD was kicking in and I was happy when she decided to sleep. I'd forgotten my breath mints, damn. I watched a delightful movie on my personal monitor. The Grand Budapest Hotel. If you like quirky humor, I suggest you see it.

Oddly, there are no window shades on the 787. There is a button to cloud the window, but you can still see through it. The windows are bigger, BTW. Robb, you still reading? It's an energy efficient airplane. I recommend you ride the be-787 and turn off your fuggin ac.

Currently power plant produce to the demand level, but soon to come is hourly electric meters, that will charge you based on usage during each hour of the day. If you use during peak hours, you will pay more. Off peak use will cost lower.

Yesterday Mr. X Man, a xx-year old national from xx, was found frozen to death in front of the air conditioning controls in his hotel room in Balibago, Angeles City.

The police have apprehended a 41 year old maid of the hotel on suspicion of leaving on the air conditioning at its maximum setting after cleaning the room.

Apparently Mr. X Man could not reach the controls in time to switch of the air conditioning when he returned to his room twelve hours later.

The police have also apprehended Mr. Robbaf, a xx-year old national from xx, on suspicion of encouraging the maid to leave on the air conditioning. Mr. Robbaf works in the energy business and would therefore benefit financially from this action.

Thanks.I've only heard about one issue of the doorman asking for ID there; if you even want to call it an issue. At breakfast there one morning I was talking to bro, he told me the afternoon before he had brought back an apparently well known FL. The doorman pulled the bro aside and cautioned him about her. He was told that she had caused some trouble there in the past (allegedly stole an expensive watch). Being a wise person he made up an excuse (said his gf wanted to surprise him and was waiting in the resto), gave her a modest tip and sent her on her way (and tipped the doorman too).

Most of the time the hotel doorman / security will not ask for the girls I'd. Of course my experience is only limited to 2 hotels. I assume they assume the girl is licensed bg and if you have a problem you will know how to find her. A few times when I have had a few girls referred to me, I have had the doorman check their I'd for my own protection. He actually held the I'd and returned it to her when she left but did not record it in his log book. This 19 yo civie looked more like 16 than 19.

This recent topic about IDs is winding down.

Nevertheless, I want to clarify that someone said, "I cannot recall that any of my girls were ever asked for an I'd at any hotel in the Philippines. ".

This is the AC Hotel thread and usually the I'd check or I'd holding doesn't happen. I think they do sometimes do the phone call thing. I'll keep notes on my next visit. LOL.

Outside of AC, checks do happen, esp Manila. But if you check in with the lady or she seems to be a gf, at most good hotels someone makes a note and they don't bother you. Hell has no fury like a Filipina wife, or even a "good" gal, who is treated at the hotel like a "bad girl". In many cases it depends on the time of night and how the gal is dressed.

If you can't recall ever having a lady I'd checked, then there is probably a good reason for that. Maybe they already know her. See her every night. (joke).

If you are with a temporary gal, the I'd holding or phone call is a bit of an inconvenience. But the practice makes it safer for everyone. At exit I usually escort the lady to the lobby to avoid the phone call. It saves the staff a bit of work, and I think it makes the gal feel better to. If she's given me any bad vibes or bad service then she can find her own way out.

The only question is if they will charge you for it, most larger hotels in larger cities are charging now. I have stored my bags for up to a week to travel lighter, when I have left for Cebu and come back to AC. For 50 p each way you know that the guy holding your luggage at least has a reason to think kindly of you and is not pissed that he just got stiffed out of a tip. I totally agreed with you. I only suggest tipping as quite a few posters here have a "no tipping" policy. Personally I tip the room cleaner P50 a day and the doorman / security guys something every few days. A few times I had girls coming to the hotel without trike money and I would pay the trike when they arrived. The security guy would advance the trike payment so I wouldn't have to come down from the room! Like you said, it is good to have friends in low places.

"I don't know the power requirements for my electronics." Well, look at them. Almost all, but NOT all, portable consumer electronics are dual voltage / dual hertz. You see a label on which is printed: 100 - 240 V 50/60 Hz? You're good2go anywhere. Laptops, mobiles, tablets, cameras, etc. are most often dual voltage. You bringing a hair drier, electric razor, nose hair clippers, vibrator, lawnmower, refrigerator, etc? The Philippines is 220 V 60 Hz, and a simple google would have told you this. If you want to know specifically about the ABC Hotel your best point of contact is, well... you ought to have guessed it... the ABC Hotel. http://angelesbeachclubhotel.com/contact.php

Philippines is 220 V.

Most/all laptop and camera chargers should be variable (where it takes both 110 and 220 - read the label on the charger).

Most decent hotels in the Philippines will have the sockets in which it will accept both the round and flat plugs.

The answer is yes ... if you have a device that only accepts 110 V, then you need a converter.

The hotels will often loan you one at the front desk, which is a small plugin item that converts (only) from the wider (round) two-prong filipine system to the (flat) skinny two-prong american plugin. This plugin does not 'step-down' the voltage from 220 to 110.

If you want to go from 220 to 110, buy a larger converter (once you are there), its called a 'step-down' converter. They are about the size of your fist (bit smaller), and heavy.

Most better hotels have both a 220 v two prong flat pin US style outlet & a 110 v two prong round pin US style outlet, usually side by side.

The vast majority of Laptops & Cell phoned have regulated chargers I. E. They will work on either voltage provided you have an ADAPTOR to cconect your foreign plug to the local US style socket.

Hold on a moment you're going to confuse people who haven't been here. Most better hotels have both a 220 v two prong flat pin US style outlet & a 110 v two prong round pin US style outlet, usually side by side. Some hotels have that, some don't. Lets assume that his hotel does not, to be conservative for him. If his hotel does not have this, and HE simply plugs in the adapter, HE could fry his gear. I was in a foreign airport at Christmas and popped an adapter into the 220 v wall outlet, then plugged my american 110 v laptop power supply into the adapter, and the other end of the supply into my laptop. Turned on the lappy and all was fine for about 5 minutes, the system was up and running and charging away as would normally be the case. Then I noticed the 'charging' indicator went off. The lappy was running fine, but not charging. I checked the connections of the power supply to the lappy and to the wall, all seemed fine, but still the unit was not charging. I touched the power supply and it was unusually hot, and it had died. Unpluged it and take it all the way home and plugged it in to a 110 wall outlet showed it to be dead. Had to purchase a new one. Similar experience in CDO in mid-2013, I put an extra phone battery into an external charger (110) and plugged it right into the 220-110 adapter, then into the 220 wall outlet in the hotel CR, and the charger fried. In either 2010 or 11, I fried a Hitachi magic wand vibrator (pop!) just by plugging it into the 220-110 adapter, then plugging the adapter into a 220 v wall outlet in AC.

But there is an inherent assumption that his lappy / cell can handle the 220. I'll assume that it can't.

AV.Bring an adapter (some hotels loan them at the front desk, but better to bring your own, see Radio Shack). In the pic below, the item in the box is a step- converter. It plugs into a 220 wall outlet, and you plug your 110 electronic items into it (I tend to plug a 110 v power-strip with 6 outlets into itm then plug my various 110 v items into the power strip). The other 4 items in the picture are adapters, they plug into the 220 wall outlet (see the round pegs), but when you plug your flat-bladed 110 electrical item into the adapter, it runs 220 v thru it to your 110 item. The item in the box, the step- converter, is probably 1 kg in weight. The adapters are a few ounces in weight.

Most on the conversation so far has focused on volts, e.g. 110 and 220. Electronics built for the US market are 110 V and 60 Hz, the Philippines is 220 V and is also 60 Hz. Someone from Europe or Australia, where it's 220 V but 50 Hz may damage his equipment because a converter doesn't convert Hz. The last thing is watts. For a mobile or ipod not a lot of watts are used. A device with a motor, like a vibrator, or a heater, like a hair drier, use a lot of watts. A battery charger may require a lot of watts. Same too for printers if you happen to travel with one of those. Make sure your converter can handle the watts of your device; most small portable ones won't protect high-watt devices. If you get any one of these three things wrong (mismatch) you'll damage or destroy your device. If you get a plug adapter try to find one that has built-in fuse so if you get the voltage, hertz or watts wrong it's the adapter that takes the hit and not your device.

Read this http://www.220-electronics.com/voltage-converter-buying-guide.html.Good grief, When I last lived in Australia, the nominal voltage was 240 V, except WA which had previously been 250 V (long story). There was talk of it being reduced to 230 V at the time. But 220 V? Shit, I am out of date!

Seriously though, you are correct in what you write, although portable electronics are often manufactured to automatically handle 100-240 V and 50-60 Hz. A few have a switch to change the voltage (my hairdryer does).

Additionally, as far as I know, the only difference that 50 or 60 Hz will make, is the ability for internal clocks to maintain the correct times.

When you are using chargers for laptops, batteries etc, it is important that both the output voltage (DC) and the amperage reasonably closely match the requirements of the device.

I was attempting (politely) to comment on your statement "Someone from Europe or Australia, where it's 220 V but 50 Hz may damage his equipment because a converter doesn't convert Hz".

To the best of my knowledge, if you use 50 Hz equipment on a 60 Hz power supply, no physical damage will result but any timing devices (such as clocks), will run faster.

I suspect the cause for the mortality of your converter lies elsewhere. Possibly the quality of the PI power supply, such as unfiltered spikes and surges. Filtered power supplies are very important in PI.

I also highlighted the importance of matching not just the input voltage and amperage to any charger, but also matching the output DC volts and amperage to the device. My apologies if this was stated elsewhere.

Cheers.

Electric power is dirty? Noisy? Erratic? All over the place? Wow!

Thats all true but the single most salient point is that Philippine power is dirty, noisy & erratic. I. e. Its all over the place. Destruction of devices is much more common than more developed countries.

Hey all,

I need a GF hotel. Which one of these would you vote better:

Angeles Beach Club Hotel or Holiday Inn Clark?

I stayed in A7 Square last time but it was a bit of a headache.

ThanksIf you took a millisecond to read the forum you would know that the Balibago area is one big red light district & as such old men with young pinays are de rigeur. You would also conclude that ABC is by far the better choice providing you can afford it.

AV, how about an AC hotel report?

My pic is from one of the newer hotels, and I've done a review.

AV, how about an AC hotel report?..The girls' favorite hotel is (guess what?)- ABC. Which ought to make it your favorite hotel, too. Although, it is invariably disconcerting when your date is more familiar with the space and the place than you are. Staying at the new Penthouse last June, girls hadn't been there before, but then they start comparing it to ABC. You can't win. Stay wherever is your comfort zone.

The gals favorite hotel is where I am staying at. Period. Also, there is something pretty disturbing of the frame needing to spend $100 or better just to impress some w*e.

I tried to find a website for Park Central but did not find one. What is the price? Two room types available. 2500 and 2700 soft opening price. Small price difference no brainer to go for the more expensive. Bigger bath, corner unit. Note 'Penthouse View' is view of the wall of the Penthouse Hotel next door. Other side nice view overlooking Orchid pool. Rooms above 8th floor weren't open yet as of last week. When everything complete open prices will be something like 4000. Restaurant was hit or miss, but still better in a town where most food places are inedible. Besides its close to the Queen's Hotel and their Italian restaurant, for us best restaurant in AC and very reasonable.

Was in AC during March last year and stayed at ABC. A nice enough place but the decor was a bit over the top and the pool a bit disappointing.

I am thinking of returning next March and was interested by the Queens hotel. Nice looking place, a bit closer to the action and cheaper than ABC. Has anyone tried this place. What is the pool like?

What is the pool like?I stayed at the Queens during my last trip in October. Being fairly new, there was no signs of wear and tear. I did not go to the pool as it rained on and off during my stay. I liked the large shower, large bed, and good wifi connection. There is also a small gym that I used a few times. The location is very convenient to walking street. So I never had to hire a trike. They have discounts for multiple night stays with cash payments. I should be returning to Angeles either end of Feb or beginning of March. Good chance I'll be staying at the Queens again or maybe the new Central Park tower.

Saw some people calling Central Park a lot of different things and saying they couldn't find their website. I believe I have the correct one below and if correct, it is named Central Park Tower Resort formally now. I did not see anything about prices going up to 4000 later on. I don't know if they can get up there in price and keep it close to full at that price. I guess time will tell. I am a big fan of Guy and Roselle, but thinking they'd rather be close to maximum occupancy.

I think you are right 4000 p is too high for 2500-2700 p is about the right price the roof top pool is nice much better than the little bath tub at the old Central park, this is a very good locations if they raise the price to 4000 p don't think I will stay there with the Pacific breeze just around the corner.

Earlier this month I stayed at both these hotels. I've already done a review w / pics of Queens. Probably in August if anyone wants to go back that far. Their top-notch Italian restaurant seems to be on the verge of moving out. The space if for lease. I really like the rooftop lounge. Nice and quiet with sofas. Pool was a bit disappointing since the Pool Man seemed to be in hiding. At midday, the prime tables did not have their umbrellas attached. I found a shady corner but there was a layer of dust on the table. Quibble, quibble.

Queens was about P3,100, while CPH with a larger room and larger bathroom was 2,500.

I really want to like CPH, but there are so many things wrong. The positive first. Great rooftop hangout area with an infinity pool (smallish). Food isn't great, but it is really nice. The indoor restaurant isn't open yet. The rooms are good value for the current price.

Problems? Unorganized reception. I had problems coming in and going out. A bathroom fixture that kept falling off. Slow elevators.

I have some pictures somewhere. I'll add them later. X.

X.Queens has been giving the cash discount through end of year, see if they extend. Too many different room types for such a small hotel, a bit confusing. As for minor detail, hot water in largest rooms (ones with both shower and tub) is not reliable. Top floor lounge 'living room' is nice.

X.At that price, what you must have stayed at in Queens was one of their cheap, little rooms. The big ones are much nicer, if you could've afforded it. They do have a lot of different type rooms for such a smallish hotel, a little confusing. Let's see how much longer they continue their cash discount policy.

As for CPH, we reserve judgement until the place is fully going. We need to see the gym and the suite rooms on the upper floors. Meanwhile, note their pool is open 24 hours. Pricing obviously ultimately determined by occupancy rates. What we've seen of clientele here is disproportionately middle eastern, north Asian, people who don't travel to stay at cheapest dumps they can find.

Rooms great for parties and not too far to walk to the attractions.I agree that the rooms at ABC are made for party. While the lower cost hotels certainly have rooms suitable for staying in, the ABC hotel rooms expect you to have guest. Even the basic room (the Standard Suite) has the leather couch area suitable for entertaining. The 4 0 r 5 porn channels also work a treat for the visiting shyer girls.

The Milennium Standard Suites take this a little further with all of the enhanced gadgets and lighting.

The penthouse floor is good is you are planning to have quite a few guests and a party. I've been there where we've had multile males with their ladies. I think if it is just one guy with 3-4 ladies, then the penthouse might be to spacious (is that possible?) ie the layout of the place is wasting the floor space because of so much outside space.

The Presidential suite at Lewis Grand is a much better layout. The outdoor style spa is also a nicer touch.

BDThanks BrainDrain. I have never stayed at either of the places you have mentioned but might give one of them a go next time. How do the prices compare with ABC? There are usually about 6-10 of the boys visiting at the same time and some of them don't have a huge budget.

You already mentioned that you've stayed at the ABC Hotel. I think you may be confusing BD's reference to ABC's penthouse suites with the new Penthouse Hotel as he only mentioned ABC and LG. Prices may depend on time of the year and even length of stay (for a longer stay you may be able to negotiate a better price). I suggest you Google search the hotels' respective websites and also check prices on the various travel websites like Agoda or Expedia for the best prices.

Although lately, experience has been hotels are more apt to counter by offering you a room upgrade rather than lower their price.

Hi to all,

Due to the loss of my leg, I am confined to a wheelchair. However I can hop a bit and transfer Quite easy.

Can anybody remember hotels around fields area, or the surrounds, that have ramps or slopes going into the hotels. I plan to travel with an Electric wheelchair, plus a manual wheelchair.

My Electric chair, weighs about 125 kilos and can only bounce up steps about 3 inches.

Happy new year to you all.

MalcThe tune hotel has a ramp but the rooms are small. On one hand that my be good for hopping but not for wheeling. Make sure you get one of the rooms where the door will stay open for you so you can wheel in.

Good luck, and happy pooning, LAT.

MalcHi Malc.

I have stayed at Pacific Breeze, which is very close to Fields action. I'm pretty sure there is access without steps in the main building, which also has a lift. If you can wait till 13th, I should be there again and can confirm, or could check out any others for you that might interest you. PB has 24 HR door men anyway, who calls when your girl wants to leave to check all is ok, you may find this is useful idea too. I'm sure you would find them and all the staff there most helpful! If you book there, make sure you let them know that you need the lift building.

If I forget to report back in all my excitement, feel free to pm me anytime.

Cheers.

Hi to all,

Can anybody remember hotels around fields area, or the surrounds, that have ramps or slopes going into the hotels.Hello and welcome to the board. You didn't mention your budget, but I'd try to stick to hotels closer to the action. Forget the Tune as it's further away and getting to / from Fields could be problematic for you as there aren't taxi's readily available like in other metro areas; though maybe a trike driver could tow you behind his bike, LOL.

Queens hotel has a ramp, a guy in chair was there when I was there last year, he had no problems getting around (seen him once rolling down Fields with a spinner on his lap, she was laughing up a storm). The executive room I stayed in also had a large bathtub with a shower wand as well as a regular fairly large shower stall. BTW, in a recent report here someone mentioned hot water issues there, each room has it's own point of use hot water heaters (2 of them in fact; one for the shower and one for the tub). When I checked in I wasn't aware of that and the one for the tub was switched off, a call to the front desk quickly rectified the problem; perhaps the OP had the same issue.

Though a bit further down, you might also consider ABC and Lewis Grand as they have free van service available for in town use (mini vans with regular doors, not sliders), but they do charge extra for airport transfers; if I recall correctly it's about p400-500 each way (for Clark airport) and about p3,500 each way for MNL. On that note, most of the hotels also offer airport transfers for a nominal fee; plus there's the private services like that from Margarita Station which are a bit cheaper (about 2,800 from MNL).

Adjacent to the Wild Orchid is the Bourbon Street condos, the rooms tend to be larger then your average hotel and they share the WO's amenities (pool, room service, etc), but at the end of the connecting "bridge" on the 2nd floor the ramp is quite steep. However, entering the condos from the street is no problem for someone in a chair, the ramp entering WO from the street is also quite steep, but doormen at any of the hotels are always very helpful.

Good luck and hope to see an FR from you, it would certainly provide us with a different perspective and could also help encourage others in chairs or with disabilities to visit.

I seem to remember a similar inquiry about wheelchair access several years ago. Unfortunately the gent never gave us feedback about his experience. Just walking around in cities and towns is problematic, especially if one has a hollow leg!

I think PJ has some good info.

Also, labor is cheap in Philippines, so consider hiring a guide.
