I am heading to AC in a few weeks time and am looking at staying at the Ramada Hotel in San Narciso St. Malabanias, opposite Tiger Hotel. It meets all my requirements - pool, free wi-fi & mineral water, 24 hr room service and safety box.

Is this location close to the action? Anyone stayed there before?

My alternative is the Swiss Chalet but they are more expensive by 500p/night

Swiss Chalet is closer to the action. The Ramada you are talking about is about five or six minutes brisk walk from the action. Not sure what it is like to walk at night.

Have not stayed there, so cannot comment further.

Haven't stayed there myself but here is a link to Beeline travel and their review of the place.

I know some may not be aware.-

But use caution with Beeline Travel

They tend to post propoganda on lots of sites that they are the best option for bus service etc.

1. They are much more expensive than most options. The best I have used is FLY THE BUS from Manila to AC. Though there are even cheeper options then they.

2. I used Bline once as they were said to have the best busses and I wanted to check them out-- the bus was worse than any I had used and broke down half way to AC, it took over 8 hours for them to get us picked up at our location and to AC- we were all sweating and drunk. It was awefull.

3. I have read reports that they have even lost peoples Passports etc and they were late getting extensions and fined when leaving.

Whatever your choice I say just shop around and be carefull with this company.

I wouldn't recommend Beeline, I used their taxi service once to Clark. Cost me 500 peso if I recall correctly. But for newbies trying to decide what hotel to stay in, it is useful.

I was thinking of staying at Lewis Grand or ABC for my next stay, as a step up from my usual digs at PB or the like.

They both mention that they offer airport transfer on their websites, but neither mentions what they charge. Does anyone know what they charge for pick-up at NAIA? 2500-2700P seems pretty standard at other hotels. I was wondering if these hotels tried to soak you on the transfer for their “luxury” (e.g. Wild Orchid charges 2700 vs. Orchid Resorts 2500??!!).

Guys, I think someone mention that Beeline had a review of a specific hotel another member was asking about, not whether Beeline was any (good or bad) for traveling. Lets stick to hotels only for this thread.
Just wanted to point this out.

Must be my eyes, but is there a link for a better map. Can't seem to read anything on the map, except the big Margarita logo. This map seems to good as to actual scale of the area (some of the hand drawn maps are not that useful as it don't include the scale of the areas.)

Perhaps someone with a good map of AC can scan it and post it for us.

thanks

In AC this week and did some hotel shopping (I usually stay at Pacific Breeze.) ABC refuses to budge from $99 for a room. Bag that.

Lewis Grand, despite being a 5 to 10 minute walk from ground Zero (Pacific Breeze is a 1 minute walk), is now my first choice. Cheapest rooms are only $39 (versus $58 at PB), although no view or minibar. But the deluxe rooms are $69 and much nicer than PB. The pool is the best in town, way better than the tiny, mostly shaded, pool at ABC or the plain pools at PB or Oasis. It is also the only hotel in town with a resident monkey.

The restaurant is top notch, everything is super clean and spacious, and it is quieter than PB. Best of all no trike driver scum lingering out front. It is far enough from the center to lack the crowds and noise and viagra vendors, but an easy walk to EITHER the Fields bar area OR the Perimeter Bar area.

I have been looking at some of the web sites for various hotels and apartelles in Angeles City, and I am wondering about the discounts they give for long term stays. It seems that they will give only a 10-15% discount if you stay monthly. Can anyone advise if there are places that give a greater discount than that? It seems like kind of a wimpy discount if you ask me, or perhaps I am expecting too much of a price reduction. Is the 10-15% negotioable?

I'd say it's just a matter of personal life-style and likings.
If the convenience of a hotel car is worth the money for Genghois,
so why not? Maybe he has heavy luggage.

On my departure I'll take the hotel car of LGH to Clarke Airport for 400ps.
Why? I like the convenience of point to point transfer instead
of going down the road in the sun to the jeepney terminal and get it for 11ps.

Has nothing to do with impressing a hotel driver IMHO.
Just a question whether it's worthwhile for the individual or not.

Cheers!

I used to use the bus, but now I always use a car service. For me its about comfort and expediance. The car is waiting for you at the airport. Will stop, if you desire to get food along the way. They bring refreshments for you to enjoy. You can kick back take a nap, with no worries. Front door service.

Besides after a 14 hr flight from the states. Who wants to drag luggage all around. First a taxi to the bus station. Sit in a crowded bus, then have to take a trike or jeepney from Dau to your hotel.

After spending hundreds for the flight, another $45 for the comfort of a nice air cond car ride is not splurging to me but a necessity.

I am currently staying at the Lewis Grand and it is my first and will be my last time. I have the executive jacuzzi suite and the room is awesome, it is the service that sucks. For $110 a night I do expect some service.

First, upon arrival the room was excellent. After a jacuzzi and ST, I called house keeping for new towels. When I returned (late night) there were no towels and the robes were gone. House keeping delivered towels, but they are out of robes??? Yesterday, they when they cleaned my room, didn't leave any hand towels and only one robe. When I called, they delivered hand towels, but again, out of robes???

Second, the bathroom isn't stocked like a $110 a night hotel should be. No toothbrushes for guests. You have to buy for 65P in mini-bar.

Third, room serviced is poor at best. Over 60 minutes for two cups of coffee and a pot of hot water. Bellhop told me sorry, but he is the only one on duty. I have called room service three times, average response time 45 minutes.

The hotel is very nice, but I feel if you are paying top dollar, you should be treated as such.

I guess they haven't.

For myself, I can't complain. Have Executive without jacuzzi and the bathroom is well equipped with toothbrushes, shaver and body lotion etc.
After ST in the afternoon I put the sign "make-up-room" outside,
and within an hour it's done.
But I used to go out, I usually don't need the room service.

This is indeed a beautiful hotel, and easily the nicest, most modern hotel in AC. It is a bit off the beaten path and a good 10-15 minute walk from Fields Avenue (40 php for a trike, 5 php for a jeepney). The rooms are really modern, clean, large and bright, and the a/c is excellent. The beds are huge and excellent. One of the “bell staff” is an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous woman whom fits quite excellently on one of these great beds!

There are a couple of negatives to the Lewis Grande, in addition to it being away from the center of action. First the “elevator”. And you will note that is singular, not plural. This is a very large, 5-story hotel, with maybe 80-90 guest rooms …… and only one elevator. It really needs two. Also, do not … and I emphasize, never … put your hand in the elevator door to pop it back open when it is closing. I have seen two people with their entire bodies trapped in the closed elevator doors and it took two of us to pry the doors open again. No injuries, but scary as hell. I don’t know what would happen if only your arm or hand got stuck in there. Rather than stick your hand into the closing doors you must just push the elevator call button again, and the doors will then reopen. The other main complaint is that there is no hot water in the showers. I have stayed on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors and at best there is only tepid water on all of them. You can let the shower run for 10-15 minutes and it will warm up a bit, but never get even close to hot. This is odd because there is very hot water in the sinks.

Their lowest room rate is US$39 for a very nice, modern, clean room, with excellent a/c and a huge bed. However, they only have a few of these rooms and they really are quite small with no windows. Almost claustrophobic. The next price up is $69 + tax, and these rooms are huge, beautiful, great beds and a/c, and really well worth the price. Then the rooms go on up to $85+.

The Lewis Grande really is the best hotel in AC. No wait … I was wrong … this place sucks big time. Don’t stay here. It is an awful hotel. The hot bell person isn’t a sexy woman, it’s a smelly guy in drag. Hehehehe … I want to make sure I get a room on my next trip to AC. It is hard enough to get into the Lewis Grande now. Don’t go there. It sucks.

Cheers!I am back in the Lewis Grand for two weeks. I have a different jacuzzi suite and it is 100% better then the corner suite. Also, Bobby contacted me through another PI site and he apologized and I had a problem getting my jacuzzi suite for the whole stay and he fixed it so I wouldn't have to change rooms except one night and then he comp'ed me the Presidential Suite for that one night. Now, this is customer service.

I stayed in the Holiday Inn two years ago on business when my company booked me there. The hotel is girl friendly, but it is far (30 minutes) from the bars and a hotel taxi runs 600P. There are no meter taxis in the area. Going back to hotel from Fields is around 120P in meter taxi. For a weekend, I would book it.

What's the best way to book a hotel room in Angeles City? Seems like few hotels there, if any, offer instant web bookings secured by credit card. Rather, it's just a web form where they email back in 24 hours. I'm not sure I trust that. How do you guys usually book rooms there? Is it advisable to simply show up without a reservation?

Booking by filling out the hotel questionaire and providing e-mail works fine and prevents you from paying a service charge to Asia Rooms, Expedia, etc. Been going to the Philippines for over 5 years. Never had a problem. In fact since most do not ask for a credit card number (except Lewis Grande) the risk is entirely on the hotel, not you.

I would at the very least call them directly and tell THEM your name and the date you will be there. I found this worked well in 99. 9% of the cases. I found this to work anywhere I stayed in the country. Especially now with the lack of foreign guys visiting the area as of late. Angeles has so many hotels you can get a room with no problems, and if you can not get your first choice when you get there ask the place to hold a room for the next night. Stay at your second choice and transfer the next day. I would be hard pressed to believe you could not find what you were looking for "quality wise" on short notice. CASH IS KING SO PAY AS YOU GO, Check and see if they will give you a deel for a week or month most here will.

I have contacted two hotels in Angeles by e-mail for the first week of June and neither one has yet to respond to me. I think I will try one more and if I don't hear back from that one, I will just show up without reservations and look for something when I get there. Worst case scenario is staying in a ST hotel or non-air con room for a night or so.

I have so far booked AC hotels via their web pages well in advance and paid the stay with a credit card. I have always got email response within 48 hours. But I have favoured upscale hotels like Pacific Breeze, Wild Orchid Resort and ABC. They have not requested money deposit. Only confirmation for arrival within week before. I guess another option would be calling to hotels.

Showing up without reservation... Well, I have earlier assumed that outside peak season would be ok but when arriving to my previous visit during Easter a guy in airplane complainted he had not succeeded making pre-booking and was concerned getting a hotel room late at night. Perhaps someone on-site could hint does it look busy even when it is low season? The hotels I listed above may be full booked even in low season. Or without pre-booking you may end up changing your room during the stay.

Follow up to my own post (how pathetic is this, I'm talking to myself!): I am in Angeles City now and stayed at the Koala Hotel last night because I wanted to find a cheap place to put my bags down, so I could look for somewhere with a low monthly rate. During my search for a proper hotel, I ended up in Matrix Brawn, and I got distracted in my search. Left after a few hours and a 500p BBBJ and by then it was night time! So, I had to spend the night at the Koala. Big mistake that place was! Two brownouts within eight hours or so and in the middle of the night I hear glass breaking and a man and a woman screaming bloody murder! It sounded like someone was being killed outside my room. Being the tough guy I am, I locked my door and hid under the covers in the fetal position!! Couldn't get any sleep for most of the night, heard the police were being called but I'm not sure if they ever actually showed up.

Found a place today for 10k pesos for the month so I got out of there as fast as I could. The things I do to save a few bucks! Avoid the Koala, you've been warned!

Well crime can happen at any hotel and that goes the same for brownouts (had a few brownouts when I stayed at Lewis Grand). But can you give your assessment of the room and amenities? Have stayed next door at Swagman before and only got a chance to poke my head into Koala. Thanks!

It must have been hell to be deprived of television twice in one night while in AC. I feel for you dude! But didn't the drama outside your room more than make up for that?

But seriously folks, take a flashlite when you go to the Philippines. And in the case of a fire, the electricity may go out. Do you know the way to the fire exit? Play safe.

Going to be in AC for the weekend June 12-14. Need another stay at a Priority Club hotel to get a free night and other benefits- anyone ever stay at the Holiday Inn Clark Field? Guest friendly? How long does it take to get there from the main strip?

Friendly

Not really the place to stay, as it is far from action. Probably not the best place to bring girls back to either. The cost of travel and time is not worth a free night when you are only there for a few days.

Well crime can happen at any hotel and that goes the same for brownouts (had a few brownouts when I stayed at Lewis Grand). But can you give your assessment of the room and amenities? Have stayed next door at Swagman before and only got a chance to poke my head into Koala. Thanks!
As of two days ago, a fan room was 450 pesos and air con room was 950 pesos. Very small rooms, but decent cable. No telephone, I was going to call the front desk girl when the screaming wouldn't stop, but couldn't. Bathroom was small and old. Couldn't get hot water in the shower but got lukewarm water, which is actually fine for me. Overall it's ok for one night I guess but it's quite far from Fields Ave, and there isn't really anything nearby. There are places near Perimeter which are almost as cheap and much better location.

What are the options for weekly or monthly stay in Angeles?

I'm looking for something descent.

is there any short term rental condos for a couple of weeks or a month?

I just researched this very question last week. There are a few options.

The Sun Moon hotel has rooms in their annex for 13k ($280 USD?) pesos per month. I saw the room and it was ok, kind of small. Cable TV and apparently they have WiFi as well, or so they say.

The Clark Star Hotel has rooms for 10k ($210 USD?) pesos a month but they are kind of spartan and it is located on First Street, away from the "Entertainment district".

The Airmes Hotel accross from the Ponderosa (I think) was fairly nice with pool, I think the guy quoted me 22k pesos a month, less if you don't want cable TV.

There are a few others I checked out that ranged from 16k-24k pesos per month, Standard rooms of course. Most places have monthly discounts, but some of them are only 10% off their posted rates, which I think is a real rip off.

Of course, the farther away you get from Fields, the cheaper it gets. I personally wouldn't want to stay of Fields though, it would be too much sleeze for me.

I stayed at the Sun Moon last summer and am returning again this July for a monthes stay. The Wi-FI worked well and although the room was small it did it's job well. I also got a quote from the Don Paul Apartelle a new place that looked good with a pool for 23K for a month just down santos street from the Wild Orchid and was wondering if anyone had any word on it?

Hi ,

Thanks for your email and for inquiring about reservations at the Pacific Breeze Hotel. Here is the rate for three weeks stay for two executive rooms.

Executive rooms at $57/night = $114 (for 2 rooms) x three weeks (21 days) = $2,394 (for two rooms) All prices are quoted in $USD and are inclusive of all service charges and taxes. The rates do not include any meals. Should you need additional information, please feel free to contact me again. We hope that you'll make the Pacific Breeze part of any future visits to the Philippines.

Hi,

Sorry that we cannot offer you a better deal. We understand that everyone has a budget and that we are not always able to satisfy everyone. Our discount policy allows for discounts of 10% off lodging for bookings of 30 consecutive days or more. We do not offer organizational type discounts or discount to lesser duration stays. We understand that many of the other hotels (specifically Wild Orchid and ABC) do offer discounts in order to attract guests. However, they are priced higher than us and even with their discounts you would be paying more to stay at one of those hotels. Our policy has always been to keep it simple by offering affordable, value priced lodging to all guests without the need to negotiate. That way everyone pays the same rates without worrying about whether or not you could have negotiated a better deal.

Again, we understand and respect your decision. We hope that you have a very nice visit to Angeles.

Annie

That is $1197 for each person for 21 days. Maybe it is me, but that don't seeem high for 21 days in the Pacific Breeze. You get what you pay for. I am very surprised that you got two rooms for 21 days there. What dates are you booking?

In planning my trip (July 24-31) I am hoping to spend some time in Angeles, some time in Subic Bay, and maybe some time elsewhere too. I'd like to have the freedom to just zip over to Angeles when the mood strikes and stay for a couple days - any ideas about availability of 'walk-ins' in the Balibago area? Does the price jump significantly if there is no reservations?

Just an idea, anyway. If bros think it's foolish to arrive without reservation, I'll plan more specifically.

Still hoping to pal around with some of you revelers while I am there...

Yes they don't discount for long stay, they don't need to they are always full and they are the best hotel in AC with good locations, there are few older hotel in the area or premiter area that will offer discount for long stay.

Following is a copy of my post back in Feb on the hotels I stayed at. Thought it was worth reposting here in the hotels section. Sorry, should have posted it here a long time ago, but sometimes I'm lazy! :)

Valentino's & Savannah very enjoyable. Donald Paul Apartelle very dodgy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I stayed in Savannah for two weeks and Valentino's for one week last month and really enjoyed both hotels. I actually liked not having a lift as it forced me to do a little exercise. I stayed on the top floor and it was a nice little walk up the stairs.

If you like a few drinks at night or don't want exercise, then stay at one of the bottom rooms.

The owner (another Aussie) and all the staff were very friendly and professional - and the reception girls were honeys too!

I stayed in the first night in the same sort of room as in ur pic, then transferred to one of the balcony rooms. It was nice to get that extra space and really nice to sit on the balcony with a drink at night looking out over to Fields. The location is great. Convenient but still very quiet.

I have no idea how long the promo rates will stay.

I was happy to have found good hotels after my horrible experience when I first arrived on a Saturday night at Donald Paul Apartelle only to be told there was no booking for me and the hotel was full - and that was after many confirmation emails from them and me! It was a real pain trying to find a hotel late on Saturday night.

It was particularly annoying that the Donald Paul didn't reply to my email after that date or contact me (I gave them my filipino cell number and asked them to call me the next day).

So the moral of the story is stay at well run hotels like Valentino's and Savannah, and avoid the dodgy places like Donald Paul Apartelle.

How can anyone want to stay at PB. At that pricerange you could expect some service. Tried the swimmingpool while staying in Central P. Well what can I say, there were no service by the pool. I had to walk inside to the bar and make my orders to the unfriendly waitreses, its OK in a 2 or 3 starhotel, but here you pay very much. I havent seen the rooms but they must be very nice according to that price. PB

I stay at pacific breeze and central park many time already get very good service by all the staff there, Pacific breeze is a new hotel and room are larger and better than central park, this is AC not Manila or Hong Kong so don't think you will get 5 star service here.

Stayed here on my first trip based on positive comments. It's as others have reported - new (opened last October), clean, quiet a few streets back, a minute or two to a lot of the bars, friendly and helpful staff (especially Lady during the day - acts like you made her day just by showing up and asking her a question. Jen at night is great, too.) Two Australian brothers own the place and seem like great guys.

I was there for about five days earlier in the month, and I returned for a few nights passing through the next week. I'd recommend a friend to at least check it out. The promo rate mentioned in earlier posts didn't seem available (said a 10% discount if staying a week), but then I came in off the street and didn't do any emails beforehand. I needed flexibility.

Even no need to open such a hotel at all.

Had a Executive room in LGH recently and so true, it's not the problem to get the girls in the hotel, it's more the problem to get them out in the morning!

Currently staying at Wild Orchid AC, where their Deluxe room (smallish, no balcony, window with view of a wall) are discounted to 3000 for the rest of August because of rainy season. The staff are very friendly, making the occasional glitch easier to bear.

You'd expect a place named "wild...." would be girl friendly and it is. I was chatting with one of the bar / restaurant staff and she mentioned that the staff can go swimming after their work.

Shortly thereafter I saw three unaccompanied lasses wading into the pool while wearing some very fetching bikinis. Foolishly, I though, maybe, just maybe, these were off duty staff. I asked the lady at the bar, "Who are they?".

She didn't bat an eyelash as she said, "somone's barfine"

EuroAsia Hotel, formerly Europhil has been remodeled since last time I was there. I took a look around, but didn't go inside any rooms. There seem to be a new banquest room at the back, but I'm not sure if anything else has really changed. I seem to remember some rooms don't have windows, which is a big turnoff for me. Everything looked newish and clean and they do have a swimming pool.

America Hotel. There are six rooms at the back with balconies overlooking the pool. These are good value in my opinion.

Most of the rooms are very spacious. Some have strategically placed mirrors. The tiny cashier is as cute as a button.

Unfortunately, my most recent visit there was a disaster. The pool water was cloudy. My bathroom had no toilet seat. They didn't clean my room the second day. If I had known of the discounted rates at Wild Orchid I wouldn't have stayed the second day. My recommendation is give America a pass unless you really need a swimming pool at a relatively low price. My room was almost 1500 including the VAT.

On my trip last month I stayed at the Clarkton in the remodeled Studio 1 suite for 3250P a night. The room was very nice and I liked the setup of the room. Free WiFi and balcony over looking the pool. Compared to the LG, this hotel is customer friendly and service was great. The breakfast buffet is the best that I have had in the PI. Also, I liked having Mirrors in the hotel for that last stop prior to going to the room. They are open until 3 am.

Yes, it is. It jumps to 4,400 for a better room. The bed is very comfortable and the strategically placed mirror is nice. Pacific Breeze seems to only have annex rooms whenever I check. ABC still starts at US99 according to a sign out front.

I like the pool and pool area at Wild Orchid. This justifies the higher price for me. ABC has a rather small pool.

I checked out the Savannah Resort Hotel as well. It's fairly new and has a decent sized pool. The junior suite I looked at had an awesome jacuzzi bath. Price 3,600. Like the Clarkton, the location is a bit far from go-go central.

I stayed in the America Hotel Nov 2008, the problem is that some Girls (Not all Some) doesn't want to go there due to the rumor that there is a ghost in that hotel.

I was able to convince one ( the most cute one) from Nasty Duck to come but once she was in room i could feel that she was shivering with fear.

Other that that I find the America Hotel very nice and reasonable

WondererWhat a hoot, the whole bar area is one big bordello. Asking this shouts newbie in flaming six foot high letters hee hee.
Even a cursory search of the PI forums would indicate that ALL hotels in ALL the red light districts of PI assume you will have 'company' ;)

Just a little to chaps visiting for the first time. Do always book & pay for a DOUBLE OCCUPANCY in the first instance fellows.
If entertaining more than two 'guests' for the evening, notify the front desk & offer to pay the extra 'beds'.

This shows a little class & practically eliminates the unpleasantness of an argument at the door of the hotel or an argument at the front desk when paying the bill.

The hotels are running a business not a freaking charity. Even AC hotels will get a bit pissed with cheap charlies. After all this is some of the cheapest mongering/hotels anywhere in SEA.

As for 'how much' to give to the girls there is a balance between selfishly cheap & stupidly extravagant. I tend to err on the side of caution & stick to prevailing local prices with an occasional splurge. Although I can afford anything I avoid staying in the top end hotels as this sends the wrong message to the girls IMHO.

Happy punting!

Thanks a lot for the great advices. I really appreciate.

However, I am afraid to disappoint you. I have visited AC already before, and I am pretty familiar with the place - except for the LG Hotel.

There is nothing I would need to "defend" here. But just a few humble thoughts for the much more experienced guys.

First, I have experienced in other monger places (eg. Pattaya) that some top class hotels made some trouble when you brought a girl to your room. In some of these hotels you had to pay an additional "fee". With asking the hotel directly, I know at least that there is no such fee, and I can bring whoever I want - without any embarrassment.

Second, Hungerman111 posted a question, which was IMHO not finally answered. So, I thought by posting my comment, it would be an idea next time for a newbie in town: just ask if you are not sure. I believe, asking is always better - whatever "surprise" it means to the hotel staff. Many times, asking questions helps to avoid unnecessary embarrassment.

Third, we all certainly remember the attempted crack-down on the business in AC. Sometimes, anything can happen within no time - the closing down of the Pacific Breeze is just a last example for this.

Last but not least, I look forward to meeting some of you senior monger guys in AC when I am there in about 12 days... Perhaps there is some news we can exchange.

Have fun!

Hungerman111 posted a question, which was IMHO not finally answered.Like I said, all hotels in ALL the red light districts of PI expect you to have 'company'. If I must type it out in braille - YES THEY ARE _ALL_ GIRL FRIENDLY. In fact most hotels in PI in general are unconcerned who you sleep with as long as you pay for a double occupancy & you both act with decorum. Sly winks & admiring smiles are common from front door/front desk staff. If you get a bit of a rep as an operator in 'straight' hotels you may find the young female staff asking for a session also.

Sometimes, anything can happen within no time - the closing down of the Pacific Breeze is just a last example for this.PB has had a bit of a checkered history with the bureaucracy there. Took a lot of time to get the thing up & flying in the first place if I recall correctly. Thats business in PI

Is there anyone now in Angeles City who can give an update on the closure of the Pacfic Breeze? I made my booking last Friday before I saw the news here, which just happened to be the day that they were to be served with closure notice.

My reservation is to commence on September 30, and if appears that the closure is long-term, then I would like to re-book ASAP.

Fast Eddie, I did call the hotel on Sept 8 and they confirmed that they were closed at the time. They said that the closure "should" last for 5 days or so, and that my reservation "should" be ok for Sept 30. I would like to have some confidence that they are correct, but you can't believe everything that you hear in AC bars and hotels either.

And I did try to email them, but that email bounced back because their mailbox was full. I suspect that a lot of other guys are re-booking their stays right now.

Just got the following response from Annie at PB reservations in regards with my inquiry about my November booking:

Subject: Pacific Breeze Hotel Bookings Confirmed.

Hi,

Last week the Pacific Breeze was visited by members of the Manila BIR and temporarily closed. The closure stemmed from a disagreement over taxes on past sales. When we refused to pay the exorbitant amount that the BIR had computed, we were told that they would issue the closure order which they executed. We have been negotiating with the local representatives of the BIR and we have come to a more reasonable assessment which we paid earlier today. The official closure was only supposed to be for only 5 days, ending yesterday on 8 September, but we were told that because of the weekend and the holiday, we will not receive the clearance to reopen until tomorrow or Friday.

We don’t see any reason that we will not be able to honor your reservation in November.

No need to be worried. Have a wonderful day.

Annie

Here is the e-mail I received a few hours ago:

Dear Guest,

We are writing to you to let you know that the Pacific Breeze Hotel reopened two hours ago and we are receiving guests once again. We want to sincerely apologize for any worry or inconvenience that you may have experienced as a result of the closure. As we mentioned earlier, the closure stemmed from a disagreement over past taxes and a recent tax assessment. We were able to come to more reasonable terms with the tax authorities. We did our best to minimize the impact to you, but unfortunately some of our competition chose to get the media involved. That aggravated the situation and as a direct result, those of you staying with us already were directly affected. Again, we sincerely apologize for that.

We appreciate the understanding and kind notes that we received from many of you. It was certainly a difficult time for us and our staff.

We again appreciate your support of the hotel. We look forward to the chance to serve you again.

Sincerely,
Pacific Breeze Management

I was wondering if anyone could update me on the situation of the Lewis Grande restaurant

The last time I went (December 08) they were looking for a chef, and the food SUCKED.

Also did anyone try the Savannah I'm wondering how far it is from Fields (undersand it's on the perimeter not too far from LG), and also does it have a free driver system like the LG has? (if LG wouldn't have this service I wouldn't go there.)

Finally how is the food at the Savannah?

Hard to get a descent meal in AC, PB has the worst burgers EVER! Avoid at all cost.

Is the Orchid Inn an okay hotel? I'm looking for a place that is not too expensive and close to the action. I'm also keen on keeping valuables safe!

Looks like Wild Orchid Resort and ABC etc. Are very nice, but probably a little too expensive for my budget (as I'm travelling for a few months).

It's fine. In-room safes, nice pool, convenient location, clean. Everything a fella needs to have a good time in AC.

What is a free driver system?

Cottage Kitchen (Orleans food), Zapatas (Mex), The Chinese place (forgot the name) are all more than "decent". After midnight I had good luck with Dollhouse restaurant. The Greek place ....way down on Perimeter.

PB has been getting bad restaurant reviews ever since they opened.

I wouldn't hesitate to walk from Lewis G to the Fields strip, but not from Savannah. I never stayed there, but last month I wrote, "I checked out the Savannah Resort Hotel as well. It's fairly new and has a decent sized pool. The junior suite I looked at had an awesome jacuzzi bath. Price 3,600. Like the Clarkton, the location is a bit far from go-go central."

So, closer to Clarkton than LG, if my memory is correct.

To add to what Rob said, Orchid Inn used to be the most popular hotel in AC. Reservations were req. well in advance. That success led to an annex being built to the back, and then much later the Wild Orchid Hotels in AC and Subic (I assume it's the same managers / owners, but not sure).

Orchid Inn is still very popular. I don't like the rooms between the lobby and the pool, but those may be the cheapest. As for a hotel with a pool, you cannot get more centrally located than Orchid Inn.

The female staff have been known to be affected by all the sex in the air.

This I confirm. I had cheapest room just (steep) upstairs left from reception. It is in old part back in restaurant lobby. Worst room quality price ratio I have seen. The room was very worn down. And it was depressive; dark purple ceiling and ineffective lights. If I had just been dumped I would have committed a suicide in that room - The Shining experience. AC had no knobs left to do any adjustment for temperature.

On positive side there was standard small in-room safe. Another positive was I spent there only one night before flight home.

New annex looked good. Did not visit any rooms though.

What is a free driver system? like going to fields at night or coming back from fields, LG staff comes and pick you up in their white SUV for free.

It's quite convienient when it's 2AM you're at atlantis you call up and request them to come pick up you.

There is a driver on duty 24/7.

Free and much more confortable than a trike! (I don't fit in a trike as I'm a big rugby player that stands at 6ft4).

I have booked to stay there via their frontdesk chat via the net. I asked for a confirmation number and they said that it is not necessary as the chat record constitutes the confirmation. I hope they are right! I will find out soon enough.

Clarkton aka Kangaroo Club was my home away from home when I was stationed in the far-east back in the mid-80s. It was owned by Aussies back then. I used the hotel annex that was behind the main hotel for privacy and quiet. The bell guy even pimped for me when I could not find my own. Mirrors was just a hole in the wall then with 4 circular stages where one girl at a time danced. Usually one stage was open all the time and others would open as the place filled up. You sat on stools around the stage. Girls danced in bikinis. I was used to American clubs and when I put a 10P note in the bikini bottom, the dancers would get all giggly. EWR'd 6-8 of the girls over a period of 1 1/2 years with no problems. Service was always friendly.

Okay, I guess "free driver" means exactly what it sounds like. I might give LG another look next time. Thanks for the info.

I know clarkton has a regular service which seems to run every thirty minutes in the evening. They have a pick up point at Fields where there is a V in the road, right outside where the "walking street" begins / ends.

Rugby, 6'4? Oh, I can kick your butt anytime! Just pm me and I will give you the meeting place and the time! (I just want my detractors to feel happy about their claims that I antagonize anyone and everyone at ISG.)

Trikes seem to have different shapes and sizes wherever you go in the Philippines. Why on earth do AC trikes seem to be the smallest in the country?

I stayed at the Savannah over New Years last year. At that time it was new and very good rooms. They were also expensive (I think) at 4000 php for a regular room.

Things I did like were: the jacuzzi tub, the big shower, non-stop porn on three channels, and the food at the bar was good. I eat mostly steak and can recommend the porterhouse and ribeye.

They have the free driver also. Just call and he will come pick you up, also gave me a ride to the airport at the end of the stay. Probably one of my favorite places to stay in AC.

Mostly I would go out about 7pm, BF a girl and do the deed, then have a good meal and play games with the staff down out the bar after. Mostly the BG would stay with me LT and leave around 11am. Very relaxing and fun.

Do a search and you can find my report.

I have a bunch of pics (mostly girls in the jacuzzi) but will resize and post soon.

Getting ready to book my Nov. PI trip, and have narrowed down my AC hotels to the following:

Lewis Grand
Angeles Beach Club
Pacific Breeze
Hotel Royal Amsterdam

I'd like to hear comparative opinions from folks who have stayed at more than one of these places.

Basically, I want a suite with a jacuzzi, which all of these have at prices that are withhin my budget, but I don't like to pay for a "name"...I will pay more only if there is a definite tangible benefit for that cost.

I'd like something walking distance to fields (15 minutes or less), but not so noisy you can't sleep.

Also, do any of these NOT have free (or very cheap) internet? I hate hourly or otherwise outrageous internet charges with a passion.

I didn't see any pictures of the jaccuzzi on the website. Could you post a pic. Preferably with a couple girls in it, just for size comparison of course.

Hello! Good the topic is that in March, 2010 I go to angels city. I have been looking at hotels and am between (among) " valentino's hotel " that has good critiques, but it has neither swimming pool, nor mini bar. " Mirage hotel " that does not have swimming pool either, but as added value it has a great mirror in the wall and in the roof, je, je. But have ne found critiques or commentaries, someone to condition? This one on " carrussel bar ", is very noisy, can fall asleep? . Also have I looked "pacific breeze" that if it has swimming pool, but the rooms are very simple for the price that they have. I need recommendations?

Thank you thousand?

Welcome to ISG A1, it's nice to see a newcomer that has done a bit of homework before the first post.

There should be a lot of empty rooms in March. If your trip is more than a few days, you might want to wander into a few hotels and see what looks good for you. My recommendation is start off with something simple at first, and then for the last few days get a nice room at Wild Orchid.

Budget rooms, with reasonably sized pool, would probably be America Hotel.

You might get more responses if you specify a budget, time line, and some of your requirements.

I'm surprised this Hotel hasn't been discussed yet but I highly recommend it.

It's got a great location lying smack dab between Perimeter's and Fields. It's near the T-intersection that's located near the ABC hotel.

The hotel is nice and clean and the staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. The staff well always greet you if they run into you on the stairs or hallways with "Hello, sir!".

The benefit of this hotel is that it can accommodate the budget-minded. The rates are 1,100 for a standard and 1,300 for a deluxe along with other rooms. I stayed in the deluxe. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. The biggest plus for me is that wifi is available and free throughout the building and of course your room.

The only downside that I could say about the hotel is that you must pay in cash only. They don't have a credit card machine. However, by paying in cash and with a week stay, you'll receive a 10 percent discount.

The other bad point might be the slightly dark location down the street heading towards the hotel. However, I never had any problems walking down the street at the wee hours of the night and never felt unsafe.

I forgot to add that the hotel is very basic in services. There is no restaurant, nor swimming pool or other facilities if that's what you need. It's just a good, clean basic hotel with tasteful interior.

If you need to do laundry, there's a laundry place that's about 20 meters to your right (when you walk out the front of the hotel).

I'm actually going there tomorrow for a few more days stay after coming back from Cebu.

Cheers,
zackary kr

I've never had a problem getting a room in March. Around the Christmas and Easter holidays are the times when people might want to make hotel reservations. You have increase of tourists as well as OFW returning for their holidays. I don't think many of the OFW go to AC though.

A quick Internet search seems to indicate that there are a lot of different opinions about when high / low season is.

I m coming to AC with a friend - for the first time.

Trying to find and book a decent hotel now, but the forum's favourites are pretty well booked, if not fully booked.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for your interest in our hotel.

We are sad to inform you that we are unable to process your reservation request at this time as the hotel is fully booked during your requested dates.

Thank you for considering LGH as your place to stay when in Angeles City.

We hope to accommodate you in the future.

Glenn LGH ReservationsValentino and Savannah both still have some rooms available. Valentino is in the middle of the action I think, while Savannah's Resort is a bit away from Fields Ave. Which one of these 2 would u pick? I have not stayed there personally but from what I have read and heard from others, it would be my second choice.
Although I am staying LGH during the holidays and have in the past.
You can sample the Perimeter bars, the rooms look good and so does the pool.
Another Hotel which is ok is Euro Asia, and I stayed for a month this past year.
Nice pool and updated rooms, but take a room that does not front Perimeter Rd, too dam noisy.
They also have Lady O Bar with dancers and such that recently opened. The food has also improved greatly. A lot cheaper than LGH and just down the street.

Good Luck

I've just stayed at savannah for 3 days. It's only like 10 USD less than Lewis Grand, but it's one class below. So (of course unless it's fully booked) I'd recommand LGH by far! Savannah is no match, the room is much much smaller.

I also don't like the beds at Savannah, they are too soft. Way too soft. Not to my taste.

Also I found savannah driver system to be less efficient than the LGH so it's not cool be to be stuck in front of Sub Delicious waiting for your ride at 4AM when it's raining for like 40 minutes.

I explained them their system sucked, and they were not organised, and they couldn't care less, (well in filippino style they just smiled.).

The pool is ok, but again below LGH.

You might want to try ABC hotel to treat yourself, but that's 99 USD per night.

In terms of room size, I'd say savannah is like Pacific Breeeze.

You got the room and a desk and a chair. That's it.

No couch to watch tv like at LGH.

On a recent trip I stayed at Savannah for a couple of weeks before moving to Valentino.

Savannah's rooms facing the pool are much quieter than the road side and vary; try checking out the other rooms, particularly the corner ones. Savannah also has some really nice, big suites.

I haven't stayed at LGH, but I found Savannah to have pretty classy rooms and my room was bigger than Pacific Breeze. And the bathroom and shower were amazing.

Of course it's personal taste, but I found the bed very nice and I don't mind soft.

The reason I moved down from Savannah was that it is a fair way from the action, not just the bars but also restaurants, checkpoint, shops etc and after a couple of weeks good to get into the centre of the action. And Valentino has a perfect location.

I enjoyed my stay at both hotels; they are just different.
Enjoy

Hi everyone. This is my first post, but I've been reading for a while.

So me and a friend are planning on getting to Angeles City a week from now. We were thinking of winging it while we are there, meaning no hotel reservation. Is that a good idea? Do hotels fill up fast? I got a list of hotels mentioned in previous posts.

We were gonna hang out in AC for a couple days and then travel somewhere else if we feel like it.

It is coming high season. Most popular hotels have gone weeks or even months ago but my guess is there is ad-hoc accommodation available. I always play safe myself.

It also depends on what days of the week you're going to be there, and how picky you are about rooms. If you're going to be there on the weekend, or if you're going to need above-average accommodations, I'd book ahead of time.

Actually, at this time of year, I'd book ahead of time anyway. I just booked with 4-5 days notice and couldn't get into 950 Condotel, which I don't think is a top 5 preferred hotel. Settled for L Tinio.

If you just "wing it" you might be moving hotels a lot, as a given hotel might only have rooms for a couple of nights, then you have to move to another one.

Another idea came into my mind. Why dont you take the middle road and make certified reservation for the first night? It would give you time to do inquiries on the spot with less risk of hauling luggage around AC.

Anybody recommend staying here? Do they have secure safety boxes to store valuables in? Also, is their wifi any good?

Anything bad about the hotel?

Boxes are in the lobby and it has been robbed before. I had a room without a toilet seat. Front rooms are very noisy. Well known among the ladies as a haunted hotel.

Other than that, it's quite nice. X

Robbed by whom? Staff? Thugs? Has this happened alot?

I'm bringing a good amount of cash with me so I'm a little concerned about safety.

Maybe another hotel is better?

The armed robbery was an isolated incident.
There was a murder suicide a few years back and some people claim they have seen ghosts.
Yes the hotel is tired.
If you want to stay in that area, the Clarkton is a better choice.

Evening,

Myself and another member, Blacklisted, are heading to Angeles in mid December to bite our AC cherry. Both know the Phils pretty well (lets not count the number of 2009 trips!) but have never strayed further north than Manila.

I am happy to splash out. A bit.

On accomdation: A big bed and decent shower and/or bath are required and some peace and quite. Only one type of banging will be tolerated and the sound of doors is not it. Blacklisted is more budget orientated.

Shortlist is looking like this:

- Amsterdam. But no mentions on this site. Trip advisers reviews suggested like minded people stay there but not ISGers?

Pacific Breeze. Pool sounds good and seems to be a firm favourite of some

ABC. But seems damn expensive. As BL pointed out. You are hardly there and when you are you are shagging or sleeping. Is it worth it?

Valentino's. Seems cheaper and more mentioned here

Savanna. Looks good. Just trying to figure how far from th action it really is.

Top budget is supposed to be USD$50 per night but I am happy at 80USD or so and BL is stretchable.

Thoughts from others? If I did not know ISG I would head to the Amsterdam. But silence on that one suggest something is amiss.

Also, I normally book Manila hotels via Agoda and the like. Better to go direct to the hotels in Angeles?

If anyone is around, we would be keen to meet up for beers and women.

Thanks in advance

I already know the PI girls are cheaper. Most gfe? Most beauty? If your in it just for girls. Go to AC. Can't be beat, the girls are cheaper, more real, better looking, and if you have never traveled to SEA you don't really have to worry about Ladyboys in AC! In Thailand they are everywhere, some them are model gorgeous, so you really have to be careful or you might accidently end up with one.

Overall I prefer, Thailand, because there is much more to do, AC can be boring as hell, during the day, unless your want to start drinking at 10:00am (Which I don't). I LOVE both places, but prefer Thailand to everywhere else. However, I speant a considerable amount of time and energy into learning how to survive in Thailand, as I plan to live there one day. But for purely mongering, AC is much better. Plus the girls in AC, all speak great English, whereas a lot of Thai's do not. AC is more user friendly for first timers, the prices are more set, and don't require negotiations. When the girl leaves in the morning you can give her nothing, or as much as you want, as you have already paid the bar for her services.

Bangkok is my favorite city on Earth, and I've been to a lot of them, but IMHO for mongering it is really crappy. The prices are over inflated, defiantly need to stay away from Patpong, it is full of scammers and cheats, nothing good will come out of there. You can still find good looking girls in Bangkok, but they are harder to find, and will cost more Pattaya is much better, girls are cheaper. Keep in mind that anytime anyone tells you a price for anything, that is merely a starting point for negotiations. I will rarely ever except a first price given to me Thailand.

AC is a little bit more dangerous than the rest, and you wil certainly notice the presence of guns with the security guards everywhere, as opposed to Thailand, but if you stay at Hotels like ABC or Lewis Grand you will be fine as long as you don't act like a F***ing moron.

This was kinda all over the place, back and forth, but I hope it helps you!

I am staying there right now.

It is clean, modern, well run. Staff are friendly and efficient. Guard with gun outside the front. In the middle of Fields action. Room safe. Booked most nights, so don't assume you will get in unless you book ahead. (I booked two months ahead and had to change rooms once because of prior bookings). Site photos are typical.

Against. No pool. Restaurant temporarily closed for renovations.

I have been staying here a couple of times a year for the past three years.

With this little notice at this time of year, the bigger consideration will be where you can get a room. Many of those hotels are going to be booked. I wouldn't be surprised if they all are.

Amsterdam is fine. In fact it might be my new favorite.

Pacific Breeze will fail on your noise consideration; the doors will let in the noise of every drunk guest returning loudly with his drunk barfine.

Valentino's is another nice but cheap place I love.

Savannah is too far out for me, but many folks love it. I think it depends on how much of a hassle you find trikes and jeepneys to be. I hate and avoid both, so I won't stay anywhere other than Fields.

You're right, ABC is not worth what they charge. Someone once described the decor as "vampire bordello" and that sounded accurate to me. Not attractive. Even ABC is further from the action than I like to be.

Just had a brief stay in AC (will FR later when I have the time). Stayed at Affinty Condo Hotel (googele for the web site).

New, clean, nice rooms, internet in rooms etc. Pool on top flor. No elevator though so if a lazy bugger stay on the ground floor!

Small coffee shop, nice food, nice staff.

Located on Sophie Street.

Check prices on the web but my room (studio) was 1950 pesos . The hotel has 1 & 2 bedrooms and a penthouse)

Would recommend and will stay there again

I was thinking of staying there.Ended up at the Orchid Inn (see post below). The Jasmin Wing (Superior Delux Rooms) is just fine. Clean, quiet, large rooms if somewhat worn. The bed was comfortable and staff very accomodating. Lots of hot water although only a shower. I did have to 'plunge' the shower plug but that was a minor inconnvenince.

It is right in the centre of the action. If and when I return to AC I would not worry about going anywhere else.

WGSI stayed at savannah twice. It's about 15 mins walking distance to Fields. Less than 5 mins by trike. The hotel has a car that will drop off and pick you up at Clarks airport, Fields and SM for free. The only down side is if the driver is out on a run you may have to wait for while. This has happen to me and I just took a track to fields. I hope this help.

Yet to do a proper FR of my time in AC but when I was there stayed at Affinity Condos (google and you will find). Nice place, clean, new and hopefully by now has credit card facilities (as it was new it was waiting for the connection). Reasonably priced and not too far from anywhere (Sophia Street). Food in the restuarant not bad either so next time will stay there again

The property is located in the very quiet Diamond Subdivision about a 15 minute walk from Fields. But they offer complementary trike service to and fro. The rooms are a bit tired but worth the price. The main attraction is their open air bar and resto accross the street serving great food. If you are an Aussie, you will get along famously with the other mostly Australian clientele.

That being said, you might want to check out the hotel first because they lost four units a few months ago after they were swept away by a typhoon!

Just to clarify, that happened in the first part of the year. When I was there in August, it looked like repairs were in progress. Maybe they have a few new rooms now! X

Nope, it is quiet. The windows are effectively double glazed front and back. The noise is minimal.

I stayed there (again) a couple of weeks ago.

However, the restaurant was closed for repairs, and there is no pool. So if either of those are important, maybe not for you.

Rob Woodrow
12-20-09, 01:15
Royal Amsterdam can in fact be quite noisy on the north side, where all the videoke joints are. Double glass isn't enough to keep it out, at least to this light sleeper. And they are open until 7 am.

But if I ask for a quiet room, they can usually accommodate me. And if not, I stay somewhere else.

For me, no pool is no problem. I stayed at Pacific Breeze for 3 weeks earlier this year and never once used the pool. Twice I tried to take BF's out for a late night swim and the pool was closed for cleaning both times. Forget it, I'll stay at a hotel without pool and save $20 a day. If I want to swim, I'll go swim in the pool anyway--most places will let you do so with a 300 peso (or so) consumables fee.

Rob Woodrow
12-20-09, 01:52
I stayed there for 3 nights recently.

The good:
Good value for money
Right above JJ's for easy stocking of drinks and snacks
Several restaurants nearby
Easy access to ATM at Jolibee's
Complimentary breakfast for both you and your companion
Elevator

The bad:
Noisy--next door neighbor had a rooster that started crowing before 4am and never shut up until late afternoon
Walk of shame--not usually a problem for me, but here you get to parade your companion in front of the entire population of the supermarket on your way home.

The "you decide":
Foam mattress

The only problem with Swiss Chalet is getting a room. Fill out their form or send an email and they'll tell you pretty fast if they even have a room for you.

I usually stay at the Royal Amsterdam in Fields and walk to Perimeter occasionally, but am going to buck the habit and stay in the Perimeter in March and maybe go to Fields if I get bored.

The Sunset Garden website rooms look ok, but I can't find any RECENT reviews here.

Anyone had any experience? Are the rooms as shown on the website? Any negatives from the pov of likely female visitors that might put them off doing nasty stuff to me? Any missing features (like no room safe, or 'cockroach free' is extra :)?

I did stay in Sunset last year. The room I got was like you see on website. Its not very new but for the price it was fine. They also have a safe at room. The pool is very nice, too. No problems with girls but the receptionists are not friendly like I found other places. But that did not bother me. Its easy to catch a trike or jeepney in front of the gas station which is in front of.

But I did leave after one night, because it was really noisy for the whole night. You can hear every trike on perimeter. I did some reserch for many the noisy was big problem but there also many who don't have problem. Its always fully booked. Someone told there are 2 quiet rooms above reception.

My ambitious vacation plans for Nov 2009 fell through, and it looks unlikely I will get anything other than a few days off at a time for the first half of 2010, but I would really like to spend quality some time in AC...so why not work from there!

I'm looking for suggestions for decent, safe accommodations with fast, reliable internet access that are reasonably close to the action (either Fields or Perimeter). I am thinking 2-4 weeks stay. Best bang for the buck, max P4000/night, but would prefer cheaper.

Fast reliable internet and power are a must though. Can not afford any downtime.

Anybody have ideas?

i don't live there so maybe not the best gauge. to me, internet service is usually ok to good, but i've experienced outages there many times in some of the better middle tier hotels. the infrastructure in pi is pretty much crap and not overly dependable. power outages are not unusual. if there is a power outage which is probably more likely during bad weather then you take a chance if your work is urgent. you can get a service through your cell phone there as a backup i suppose, but not sure of the quality and speed. if you go, maybe pick during their good weather times if you can. it's not that it happens all the time, but i am not that confident if my livelihood depended on it.

I use it as a short time hotel when necessary. Clean, quiet and the rooms are fairly modern. Rate for a couple hours is 600 peso. For over night I am not sure??? If you want a decent hotel close to the action you really can not beat Pacific Breeze.

I swapped a few emails with I guess the reservations manager at the Sunset for a visit there in mid February and they also advertise a pickup/van service from Manila Airport for 2600 php.

Since I'm arriving on a midnight flight I'm thinking the fare is not altogether unreasonable since I'm not stoked about grabbing a cab at midnight from Manila to AC.

Back to Angeles in a couple of days. Last time I stayed at Donald Paul which i thougtht at 1400P was good value for PI. i was looking around and TripAdvisor rates Valentinos as the best in Angeles, but at 2100P and no pool, i cant see what the attraction would be over somewher like Donald Paul which has a nice little pool. I did not like Donald Paul and cannot recommend them. I stayed one night there last November: my room and my friend's room had absolutely no place to hang towels or clothes in the room or the bathroom, I mean nothing, no hooks, no racks, not even a little something coming out of the wall. No closets, no cabinets to put clothes in, nothing like that. Just a bed, a table, a TV stand and a fridge. Nothing else that I would expect from a hotel room that cost 1500p/night. I mentioned this to the owner the next day and he got very defensive about it. With that kind of attitude, he can do without my business. Just my $.02.

I think it's a decent place to stay, good location, easy walking from Fields but not too loud so you can get some sleep. Current room price is 1400/1600 P with discounts available for extended stays. It's position opposite the hygene centre where every working girl in AC has to come each week to get checked up, means there is plenty of eye candy floating around. They have also decided to hire 10 girls to hang around the pool and restaurant area to spice things up. I think the idea is that if you buy them a certain no of lady's drinks, you can take them away to have your pleasure with. The first 4 showed up yesterday and i think some more will arrive over the next week. Should spice up the pool area which now has a jacuzzi, water slide and various inflatable stuff. the rooms themselves are fine, about a year old but nothing exceptional. The main owner is a little eccentric but has a generous spirit and it adds to the atmosphere of the place.

I find there is a good atmosphere, and its designed to encourage guys to start chatting with each other so its very easy to make pals and share info etc. I also like the fairly laid back atmosphere of the owners. If u are a repeat customer, they don't give you BS about having to get out of your room at 12 noon if they have rooms available. My flight leaves at 8 pm and they Okied me to extend check out 6 hours without cost or hassle, in sharp contrast to most hotels I know of.

Update having completed my 3 day stay at DP. Fast Eddie 48Dp's was the only place I could reserve a stay at for a Feb 13 check in. Got 4 no vacancy replies. Also got a kind of bizarre solicitation from steve paul advertising half of their rooms for long term 50 year lease where you pay up 777 php/night x 7 years and then "stay free" for the next 43 years. LOL. Anyway I guess if you knew everything would be "as is" in 50 years perhaps worth pondering over.

But I've never been there anyway so I cannot fully endorse this particular business venture, though maybe I'll change my mind once I stay there.

Then again, flyig out of Reagan National (wash dc) tomorrow and after 40 inches of snow the last few days (and all airports closed here), perhaps I'm going to have to cancel my reservation, haha.

A lot of hotels seem to sell out. I discovered this as I only booked two days in advance. The best one I looked at by far was Blue Nile - although the downside is the noise from the street till 4am. Nevertheless, if I was going to be out late I would try to stay there before anywhere else I think if I went back to AC another year.

A common problem seemed to be the smell of stale tobacco. Possibly thru the aircon(?) The first room I had in Swiss Cottage suffered from this, as did a very expensive hotel round the corner (Wild Orchid? - I didn't book cos of the smell).

Back in Swiss Chalet after a few days of luxury in Blue Rock, Subic Bay. This time I'm in the luxury suite, only one available.

I am relaxed, calm about the fact that things don't work (eg free computer and internet in the room except it doesn't boot up, several lights don't work, the safe jams, bathtub but only water goes to the shower head and so on).

The good thing, the very good thing, is the excellent bed. I really wish I had ignored everything else about Swiss Chalet cos the bed alone is worth it at the price. In the west it would be in a stately home.

But I'm tired and, against my better judgement, order a hamburger in my room. I had only eaten in Swiss Chalet once before, when I was in a standard room, and was very unimpressed. But surely anyone can do a hamburger, right?

Wrong. I have eaten hamburgers in the Bronx and they were posh food by comparison. This made me feel ill. The burnt offering had no resemblance to meat. I bit into and chewed - cardboard tastes better - and cardboard doesn't leave a piece of plastic sticking between your teeth. I discarded the piece of slightly stale, uncooked cheese, and after forcing much of it down ate some of the delicious Swiss chocolate from the minibar. But now I felt like sh*t. I ask to speak to the managaer/owner. He's too busy. Eventually I just take the food remnants downstairs and he accosts me at reception. Why did I eat so much of it without complaining? To be honest, he was downright rude while I tried repeatedly to be polite and civil.

Swiss Chalet is mostly sold out. It is a beautiful hotel but needs new ownership - someone who actually cares a bit. Service I had was repeatedly poor (room not serviced, repeatedly, promises not kept and so on). But some of the staff try very hard and I feel they are let down by bad management. Needless to say I feel exceedingly unwelcome now. If you stay there, I suggest you expect the worst, and hopefully you might be find it better than I did. It has a good location - central and quiet. The rooms I had (both standard and luxury suite) both smelt of stale smoke. But it does have good points. Just not enough for me to ever want to stay there again I think. :(

I've never met anyone satisfied with in room hot baths or jacuzzis. You can't get the water hot enough...just take a friggin shower. Leave the rubbie duckies at home. :-) X

I recently stayed in Blue Nile and wasn't very impressed. To me the room is very similar to Swiss Chalet just with a different motif. But the rooms were about 1000 pesos more than the standard room at Swiss Chalet. Not a good value in my opinion. The only reason I stayed there was because I hadn't made a reservation anywhere and after dropping in or calling about 10 other places with no success in finding vacancy I was SOL so I took the first place I found with an opening, which was Blue Nile. I wouldn't stay there again at that price (2380 for premium room).

My only comment is make sure U-turn on the water as soon as you get in the room with the tap on HOT. As it will take a while to fill and will start to cool down as soon as you start to fill the bath.

I just wish the Jacuzzi had an option to re-heat the water while making bubbles.

The rooms are nice but the water is "warm" at best. The main advantage is that they are located on the hotel interior and therefore have a low noise level. Worth the premium for that alone if no other quiet rooms are available.

Uninhabitable, unless you're an extreme night owl or are deaf. The hotel is bordered on one side by Dollhouse, on the other by Atlantis, and Carousel underneath. If you border Dollhouse, you will never sleep. If you border Atlantis or Carousel, you will not sleep until after 5 am.

If noise is not an issue for you, it's a fine place to stay. Centrally located with clean and nice rooms. The only other issue is the design of the bed--there is a 2-inch lip beyond the edge of the mattress. Attractive, but if you aim for the mattress after a CR trip in the dark, you are going to bang your knees or your shins into the bed frame.

Thanks for all the info on the room guys. I've been in several Jacuzzi rooms in the Philippines. The one thing I can tell you is most Filipina girls don't like the water to be too hot. In fact, most wanted it almost cool. I guess this is probably because they have grown up taking cold showers/baths their whole lives.

Hey guys,

I am planning on going to Angeles City in 2 months and was wondering what is the checkout times for most of the hotels there? I assume 12:00pm and check in is 2:00pm. But, what if our flight to depart AC is at 8:30pm at night, will the hotel allow us to stay a little longer? We have alot of time until our flight departs. We plan to stay at the Pacific Breeze Hotel. If the hotel checkout time is 12:00pm, what can we do for the next 6+ hours?

Thanks!

If you want more than that, you can pay a bit more and keep the room till 6 or 7. Otherwise, just leave your bags at the hotel and go on a six-hour afternoon bar hop!

Pacific breeze staff let you stay free of charge until 2PM if you ask nicely.

Then if you stay until 5 or 6PM they charge you 50% of the room price, after that you need to pay full charge.

So clearly the best option is the free latecheckout at 2PM.

Then go barhoop or go play poker / casino.

In AC, why dont you try Tiger hotel or Ramada hotel across the street, located in a side street to Fields, around 200 meter from 7-eleven. These hotels have short time rates. If you stay there the night before, you may even get away with a very small amount for the 6 hour extension.

In Manila, give Longwood near Harrison plaza shopping mall a try. They have hourly rates, effectively counting from you arrive till the minute you check-out. 24 hours 1000-1800 peso depending on standard, 3 hours 300-800 peso. And they are very girlfriendly. Only 5 minutes away from L.A.Cafe.

Tucked away in the “Travel Plans and Announcements” thread was a posting by Matius (10th April) which more appropriately resides in this Angeles City forum. So I have reposted it below.

I stayed there three nights last week and I agree with Matius it is a gem of a hotel. It is a great little place at very reasonable rates. They call it an Apartelle because the rooms supposedly have a kitchenette, apparently to get around some local accommodation classification. But don’t count on a cooking unit or a kettle.

The restaurant offers good food, and specialises in German fare. They are a bit slow to start in the morning (after 8am) but who worries in AC, except if you have an early morning departure. The bar is cute, intimate, and so are the nice bar girls. The place is set out around a lovely large well-maintained swimming pool. The best thing about it is that it is all new and fresh; a queen-sized bed, showers that work, and a large flat screen tv. At 1200p a night it’s good value for money.

Yes, as Matius says, the place is in Mt Arayat Street, off Perimeter Road, starting behind the Petron service station. Between the Candy and Foxy Lady bars there is a lane running off Perimeter Road and it is only a 150 metres down there and to the right.

Kongking

I went to visit a friend of mine at one of the local Hotels, Geomania. Never been there before, got to say this is a gem of a hotel.

Its not on the main Perimeter road, rather on one of the side streets behind the Petron Petrol station. It only has about 15 or 16 rooms, run by Germans (only those who have travelled to Germany know how the Germans run these small hotels, clean, friendly, unique). It has a beautiful swimming pool in an isolated courtyard that is surrounded by the rooms, which are on three floors. The rooms are huge, and while not five star quality, given their being new, very clean and well presented, can't imagine anyone having a complaint. The hotel has both a restaurant and bar (did not see the restaurant, but the bar is very cute and enticing, and they have girls).

Now for the prices, and you won't believe the value until you see it. The rooms go for only 1200 p per night. The bar's prices are perimeter road, 60p for most local drinks, 1000 p for a barfine, 100 p for ladies drinks.

The only negative is that the hotel is not on the main street, so one would have to take a trike to get to the strip, but that is only a five minute ride. One who generally recommends the ABC Hotel or Wild Orchid, this little hotel was a complete surprise such as to strongly recommend it.

The name is Geomania, their phone number is (63) 045 892 1276. Their email is geomaniahotel@yahoo.com, their website is www.geomaniahotel.com

Ask the front desk to lock up your luggage for you and you hit the perimeter and grab a girl and go to the short time hotel! After that you and your girl go to mall and grab some late lunch or dinner. That should eat up most of your spare time before your flight leaves.

Why waste a morning? Second to that try Blow Row and play pool and drink for a few hours interdispersed with a couple of protein slurpie's for the girls !!!!

YMThe Jacuzzi room is pretty nice. The Jacuzzi is actually in a foyer between the bedroom and the bathroom. In my room, the water was hot and the Jacuzzi can fit 3 people.

My only criticism of the room is that it came with only 2 pillows which can be an issue if you have more than 2 heads sleeping in the bed. I guess I could have called down for another pillow! There is an extra blanket in the closet.

clarkton has decent internet both wifi and wired depending on where your room is located as they have a new wing.

there is cpi business center located accross the street from main gate. they specialize in international calls with rates as low as .03 per minute to u.s.a.

pick up a pldt budget card available at most cell phone shops and 7-11. rates are about the same as cpi business center.

as you probably know, buy and register a magic jack in north america and take it with you to philippines. all calls to the u.s. will then be free.

I have booked my first trip to AC and will be staying at the Lewis Grand Hotel so I thought I would share the Room and Rate info here.

The Special King Room was not listed on their website. They said it was a smaller room than their Deluxe King Room and was on the ground floor.

The Special King Room rates $49/night not including breakfast. We can give you a 10 % discount on your long stay with us. The Special King rooms are some smaller rooms we have on the ground floor. They are limited in number and very popular. Although lacking a writing desk, bathtub and couch they are still decorated to a high standard and boast a queen size bed, flat screen tv, cable, air-con, room telephone, WIFI internet access and an en-suite bathroom with hot shower.

Special King W/ 10% Discount = $44. 00 / PHP 2050

Deluxe King W/ 10% Discount= $66. 00 / PHP 3105

They give a 10% discount for 1-week or longer stay and I think it includes the food you eat there as well.

D that the internet at lewis grand is very good, but it's wired, bring a decent long ethernet cord.
No need to bring cord, LGH provides cord in their rooms.

No need to bring cord, LGH provides cord in their rooms. The cord they gave me was only about 6feet long, but the internet connection was across the room from the bed. I just like sitting on the bed with my back against the headboard and surf and chat online. Alot more comfortable than sitting in their wooden chairs, but yeah, if you don't have a 8/10/12ft ethernet cord then they do have one for you. I asked for a longer one but they said all they had were that size.

Yep first trip. Just sharring my info after contacting may hotels via email and asking them for a discount because of slow season and my long stay.

Most of them responded with a standard 10% discount. I exchanged about 20 emails with LGH. Mostly because they would respond to my email and only answer 1/2 of my questions.

Below is my request to LGH:

Hello, Jhey, Thank you for the quick response! Since it is a slow season and I am staying for over 2-weeks is it possible to get a 20% discount and charge me the same rate even if needed to change rooms? Other hotels I have contacted are giving 20% discounts. Thank you.

Her response:

I already talk with our General Manager regarding your request. But unfortunately, we can only provide you the 10% discount for your stay. We are hoping that you will be able to stay in our hotel in your future stay.

I does not hurt to ask.

Thanks for the great review.

Maybe this info will be helpful to others staying in AC.

Here's some responses from hotels in AC when I asked them for a 20% discount on room rate.

Next time I will also ask for free food, alcohol and nightly strip show's from the front desk girls. lol

Hello,

I am planning on going to Angeles City, after reading several posts, I'm thinking to choose one of these two hotels, Pacific Breeze or Orchid Inn.

I read that PB which he described as noisy, thin walls, noise gates room, noise when walking through the corridor, but instead the hotel is considered particularly pleasant and well located a few meters walk from the action.

Moreover Orchid Inn is conveniently located and as I have also read of an experience, staying at the hotel Jasmin Wings rooms are not noise. On the other hand I see the rooms more basic that PB.

Any recommendation ?

Both hotels are well situated and well run. PB is less then five years old but Orchid Inn is starting to show it's age. Would give PB 1.5 stars over Orchid and the price difference reflects that.

Thanks Mattrick.......

Yes, PB is newer than Orchid, for me the problem is if PB is too much noisy or both of them are similar.

Can anyone recommend a quiet hotel for Mastorr?

Mastorr, what time do you plan to go to sleep and what time do you hope to wake up?

I always plan go to sleep at 9pm and the noise in most places is unbearable. Of course, I should probably not barfine a gal a 8:30 when I want to sleep at 9. They seem to be so noisy around that hour of day.

Good question,................

X-man, for me the sound of a hotel doen't depend on the time you go to sleep.

I can assure you that is clear to me distinguish between going to sleep and another to be with your girl in the hotel and not having to put up drunk or unnecessary noise that may annoy you.

Of course, in all hotels there are noises, noises are sometimes due to the proximity of bars and above all and is my question, other times it will be noise due to poor construction of the walls of the hotel or its infrastructure, air central Air con, current generators. On this last point is what I've read about
PB and so I'm trying to get some experience between this two hotels.

One more thing, I use to go to sleep, if the girl gives "her permission",about 02:00 or 3:00 am and wake up with noise or without noise no later than 10:00 am. that does not stop me sleeping like a shortly after lunch to recharge batteries ........(do you know "siesta") ?

Okay, I don't do that, for me the notebook on the desk is just fine.
Just checked-in here in Executive room with jacuzzi, even in this above standard room the cord is roughly 3 meter. So far too short to reach the headboard.
For the jacuzzi, it's enough for me and one girl, I think it's too small to have fun with two girls in there. Will try out some time.

Cheers!

Hey folks

I am staying at the Hotel Royal Amsterdam at the moment which is great. Have a nice room and no questions or raised eyebrows when you bring a girl back which I guess is the norm here.

I have a late night flight from Manila in a couple of days. So was hopeing for a late check out. Unfortunatly have been advised this is not possible as some one is in my room from 2pm the day I leave. I will leave Angeles about 7pm so will actiually only need a room from between 12pm to 7pm so don't want to be paying to much. I am looking for something cheap in the Fields area who are likly to have rooms available any reccomondations?

Sorry for not looking through the forum but a boy just wants to have fun and I need to get back out there.

I stayed at the Pacific Breeze in a window-less Jacuzzi room, back in 2009. The hotel was nice but I hated the room, and I am considering staying at the Lewis Grand Hotel on my next trip.

I RTFF and I found some good info but I would like some feedback from some of the members who have stayed at both hotels such as noise levels, distance from the action, what type of room to book and what types to avoid, access to hotel wifi and any other info would be helpful.

I am also looking for good places to eat close to both hotels, any suggestions?

Central Park caters to people who need early check ins and late check outs.
The problem is they can be fully booked so call them ASAP.

Check the Walkabout as they might be able to accommodate you too.

pb is definately noiser since it is a much smaller hotel. they are also snack dab in the center of the action. rooms are less expensive then lg. never heard a peep from anyone at lg until room service knocked on the door. lg is in a better location if you want to check out perimeter bars. lg has two unadvertised cheapo windowless rooms but have never stayed in one. they offer five or six different room styles. food at both was about the same. lg has a bigger and better pool area.

maybe stay at pb and check out fields, then transfer to lg and try perimeter!
