During my last stay in Shanghai, I asked around a bid in the PI scene. The information I received was actually not nice. The situation here is not better than in Dubai - where it is bad.

I have no proofs for this information, but I also have no reason to question it.

So here is how PI girls come to Shanghai:

A “manager” sends out “agents” to small villages in the PI. They offer jobs as house maids or service staff to the young ladies. They do not have to pay there, but later in China for visa, flight ticket and so on. As soon as they arrive in Shanghai, they have to pay back around 30,000 to their manager. The manager puts them to a hotel and takes their passport!

Next night he arranges taxi to TRL and they get introduced to the fact that there is no job and they will not be allowed to do any serious job as promised for them, but they can go out with man and payback their depts this way. This is certainly a big shock – at least for some of them.

So they have to pay 800 RMB for each LT to their “manager”. It does not matter how much money they get from us, they always pay 800 to their “manager”.

The “manager” controls the club and when they leave and do not return in time, they have to pay.

A nice girl finds around 3-4 customers a week. You should think they can pay back quickly?

No, that would be too easy. After half a year and around 80 customers they already paid more than 60,000 RMB, but the manager tells them it is only 10,000 as he pays hotel and taxi.

Can they save money during their stay in China? No, how should they? They have to spend their time in those expensive expat bars and we all know how expensive the drinks are there. If they do not drink, they are not welcome to stay there. And after so many drinks every night, you usually start enjoying the drinks too much.

It is a pity. I actually like the PI girls too much. They really gave me the very best GFE experiences. But on the other side, I do not want to be part of modern slave trade.

Any idea how to help them?

No, money does not do the job. It will just drag more girls into this game.

I think a way to get a passport and return ticket would be the only way – if they are save back home. But that is difficult, as visa is also checked at departure. I also assume that CN and PI officers will play in this game to get their share of the money as well. :-(

This is my first report.

I don't know why but from the past 10 pages I read, none talk about karaoke joints.

Locals and asians like karaOK, as you can get much more fun than pubs, in shortest time.

KaraOK relatively not expensive compare to how I see the 'old birds' spent here.

I list down the common charges:

Room (medium: 5-10 guests): RMB500-800, free 3-4 wines

Girls: tips 200-300. Shouldn't pay anything above that

Mamasan: 100-300. Depends on how well she serve you

Girls/boys: 100-200

Normally one night expenses we would spent about RMB500-700, incl. Tips. And we drink less, play more.

Most girls here let you touch where you like, so basically no need much conversation to have the fun.

Most of the time you can ask for take out, I suggest you ask mamasan first before choosing girls. Else you will hav hard time negotiate with them. Yes many of them don't do with caucasions and non-asian foreigners.

If she likes you, it is normally 300-500 ST, 500-800 LT.

Again, don't spoil the market.

Another reminder, most of the girls can't speak english. You guys should get few locals/asian frens who can speak Mandarin.

Well, after reading your report, I can tell you there is only one way for them to get out of the situation but you have to be committed to putting up with a lot of shit...

From what I have been told, you can take them to their embassy and report that their passport was stolen. Then they get a new passport go to the visa center and get a one month replacement visa. Then they are free to go home or stick around or whatever they want. Since they don't have much money, I am guessing you will be stuck with the bill. That is the price of helping them.. they don't know China and are ignorant of the laws thats why they get screwed.. also clients don't care and they don't want to risk getting their ass kicked by the manager... also girls from the PI are much like any other Chinese woman in that they talk amongst themselves a lot and if your not careful you might be looking at the toilet bowl face first next time you go to TRL...

My advice is unless you are prepared to face the music, be a client, have fun and ignore what you see.

I of course didn't take that advice and became a local pimp for lao wai to help the girls because I can take care of myself. Have had my share of problems but am still here to tell about them. Being connected helps:)

On another note, there is a KTV called Gold Card on qin shan road. Sorry no exact address...

Such stories had been heard over and over again. It is not only pertaining to the PI girls, many cases, the Chinese Pros also tell you the same story.

For those of you newbies that do not know;

Dragon D is a Travel Agent, he takes people out for a good time, assist foreigners in obtaining Visa in China. He is not local but is stationed in Shanghai.

Of course he charges people who engages him for his services which includes one or all of the above. We would only refer newbies to him if they fit the following:

1. who are in town for short period of time,
2. is in urgent needs to get laid,
3. need a door to door service,
4. is willing to pay a little more and
5. of course do not want to spend to time to RTFF

report on recent trip to shanghai. not much time to explore, so all of the places i went to were previously mentioned in the forum. i still hope it is useful to some. my tastes in girls might also be different from some (i prefer “girl next door” to “model” type) so i found about half of the girls below the age of 30 that i saw on the street in china attractive. so take my ranking with a grain of salt. advice to novices like me: get a good map with english and chinese names of the streets and you will be able to find most of the places described in the forum.

shanghai hotel. the entrance is on wulumuqi st. there is a cluster of large hotels in the same huge block – hilton, equitorial, jing an… hard to miss when you are in front of it. just go into the lobby, past the desk, turn left, take an elevator to the 2nd floor. cny 750 for special service (fs), 650 before 7pm. the usual sauna experience described in the forum. common locker room with attendants helping, common bathing area with a huge nice hot bath and guys trying to sell body scrubs (worth trying once). after shower, get free pajamas, and off to the common waiting room with recliners. you can order a drink there. did not ask what was for free – all i wanted was water. there they try to sell pedicure, foot massage… you can refuse all of the services, including body scrub. they do cost extra. just tell them right away that you want massage. they take you to another area with private massage rooms, one of them being used as a line up room with girls standing along the walls of the room. all of the girls are shown at once, so the two times i went there were more than 15 each time. quality is good no less than 7, mostly 8 or 9. maybe because i am caucasian, but almost all of the girls were looking down, except for a couple. the huge line up and the looks are all good, but the two girls i had were little schemers, trying to get away with as little as possible!

After numerous praise by SJ I decided to check out Ji Yuan to see how it ranks. The quality of the establishment is about the same as 500 Wuzhong Lu Sauna but without the sauna facilities. This is a soapland style place so all the cleaning is done in your room by your girl.

Went there on an afternoon... not too many people so there was plenty of pickings. About 15 girls in the range of 7-9. Better selection than most places, and that is what it's really all about. Rooms have a shower, shower bed, and a floor bed. It's soapland style where the girl cleans you from all around, does the slippy slide with the gooey stuff on the bed, and then the rest on the outside bed.

There was a debate sometimes back about this issue, I think it was more geared towards that DD is providing the same girls found in "The Village" in which if you make the trip there on your own and do a girl, you pay 150. But DD charges 900 for the same type of girls, the difference is, he will come to meet you at the hotel, bring you out there, help you chose the girl, negotiate with the girl/manager, brings you back to hotel, wait for you to do the girl (if for ST), and get rid of the girl for you after you are done. As I said before it is a door to door service. This eliminates all the potential problems in which you are to do it your own, god knows been non-chinese speaking, how are you going to find the way to the Village, not sure of your own safety, walked into the Village, bla blah blah....

I had been meaning to suggest to Jackson to get a lawyer for a legal opinion after reading and following the debate last year and apologize for not doing so then. I think Jackson may want to get a legal opinion as to whether he and the forum could get into legal trouble for allowing providers such as DD to post ads for arranging hookups between service providers and readers. In some jurisdictions such as California, a bar owner can be held criminally liable for pandering if he allows solicitation to occur on his premises even though the owner received nothing of the money exchanged between the SP and the john.

Try Howard Johnson on Yan An Lu. Near Jin An Temple. Its a nice Hotel at 598 / per night. Not too far from mongering spots...

BTW: There are no Red Light district in Shanghai! The whole dam city has pockets of mongering places. Depending on where you are staying and what you are looking for!

Unfortunately Howard Johnson booking are pretty tight during this season thus the price is higher regardless whether you are booking online or on the phone. Walk in rate for any hotel worldwide is usually more expansive with Motel 168 as an exception.

My Price I got the last time was a corporate price, however that requires my company to sign a agreement with them that guarranttee a minimum number of room bookings.

There are several hotels in the area in which you may want to try, but my recommendation is to stay at the Motel 286. Or you may try Summit Service Apartment which is near the area rate at 598 / Night.

The sauna is located in the building right next to the Marriott. To get to the building, walk out of the Marriott, make a left around the corner, and you are there at 836 Dongfang Road. Take the escalators up to the 4th floor and you are there. Alternatively, from inside the Marriott, go up to the 3rd floor. Walk around, and in the corner, you will see escalators going upstairs to the 4th floor, where you will see Badong Sauna in nice big letters.

The service was similar to what you get at Ming Dian (near the Ba Bai Ban on Zhang Yang Road and Pudong Da Dao). No red rope service, but the girl slurps over you with water and does AR, BBBJ and ML. Cost is 650 RMB for one girl, 1100 RMB for two girls.

Stayed 4 days in Shanghai, which is more than enough if you are there as a tourist only.

Upper Happy Town is North of Lian Hua Lu Subway station Behind Carrafore. Lower Happy Town is 3 blocks South of the same station. Lian Hua Lu is in Ming Han District of Shanghai. The exect road name is Luo Shiu Lu.

If you are thinking of going there you will find upper happy town better chice because lower happy town is not so happy as there are only about 3 BBS still in operations now.

I have checked out a few of these ads and found some better than others. The one I continue to use is Yuki. She will quote 1000 RMB but will quickly drop to 700 when you say that is what your friend told you. The girls she has are good, but I don't know if they are bi-sexual. That's Hang Zhong Lu the Village! If you got on a Taxi that does not know the place, it is likely he is a new driver. Look at his taxi licenses displayed on the dashboard it is like to be No. 200,000 and above. In this case, get out and get another taxi.

Went there last week.

Location: Junction of Wuding Lu and Wuning Na Lu. You will see Motel168. Walk in, go to the 3rd floor. You will see the sauna.

Same style as most other Saunas. Shower (same drill) and then you are led to a private resting room. I got the feeling that the place is not that big. They do not have a big common sitting place. This was a resting room with only 2 seats. More privacy.

Tell the guy that you want massage and then he will lead you to a mummy, who will bring you along.

Many thanks LSLS - I believe you are referring to Ji Yuan Hui Suo. Yes it is still operating. Damage will be 650RMB. Usually a great choice of ladies ranging from 6-8. Worthwhile experience if you are into the Soapy. This is one of the most recommended Soaps on the board.

Another Soap that has been highly recommended is 209 Wulumuqi. Also located in the JinAn area.

If you are in the JinAn area, other possiblities are the Pub for a beer and a blow - damage 350RMB.

Another alternative is th Shanghai Hotel for a little more relaxing atmosphere at a Spa where they do red ropes - damage 750RMB. There are cheaper, but IMHO none better in the city.

Nevermind, I figured it out. It appears I'm the first American woman to go to KTV with her male friends and not only get things free but come home with a girl. Free. She asked ME if she could come home with me.

Now, the entertainment and drinks I got free at the KTV club were because I clearly had the largest chest they have seen in a while and all wanted to touch it. I've been RTFF for the last couple days, and am amazed by the amount of stories, and hunting missions that are available in Shanghai. I didn't have any problems the last time I stayed at the HoJo All Suites. A friend stays at the Equatorial a lot and only had a problem when the police were cracking down all over. That ended a while back so should not be a problem.

- ToddA-Todd, that was a much better price than what I found across from the Shanghai Hilton. I paid 300 for a 120 minute oil massage with an additional 300 for hj. originally 360 for the massage. (I knew I could have talked it down further, but...) The girl told me they only got 10% of the pay massage cost and made money from tips.

The legit massage was very good. Very satisfied with that. The service was much better than the environment though. I would have thought it'd be better considering the cost. It was a catacomb of rooms and massage beds with curtains and thin walls. It was ok on monday nite, cuz it was close to empty. But I had to put up with hearing another customer across the hall. Not very relaxing for me. They do have a shower though, which I refrained from using.

The girl (#2) was a 6, but service was a 8. But it didn't do it for me, because sexy just didn't enter into the equation. Still, she was great company. She told me the MP's behind the Hilton in the alley didn't have special services.

Just get off at the Shaanxi Nanlu metro stop and walk south on Shaanxi Nanlu. It's about a mile or so down close to the intersection of Zhaojiabang Lu. It'll be on your left walking south. Am back from my first trip to Shanghai and I would say the forum really helped me a lot - really thanks to the forum

Firstly I would say that if given the chance, I will not stay in Pudong area coz it is really too far from the major happening areas stated in the forum like TRL, PUB and Shanghai Hotel. It took me every night around 40 min just to go to the areas stated and I had to pay around 65 RMB one way taking the taxis.

It might be worth mentioning that on my third night, around 8 p.m. the taxi driver asked me where to pass, bridge or tunnel, told him to take the faster route, and maybe due to miscommunication, he took the tunnel and what a real traffic jam - won't ever take the tunnel again during this time of the night.

I would say that when travelling in Shanghai, most of the people do not know the English names of the places to go. I was in Shanghai for three days a couple of weeks ago and stayed at the Regent Hotel on Yanan West Road, a new five-star hotel that I like very much. I’ve been there twice before, but never knew that it could be so girl-friendly. (Unfortunately the hotel itself doesn’t provide any full service).

By now I was very tired but mad, and I told the driven to take me to the Shanghai Hotel, went up to the third floor, and of course it was also closed. I got another cab and asked the driver to take me to Chamber Sauna on Changshou Road (a great place that I reviewed almost two years ago). On the way there, the driven recommended Oriental Rome (I forgot the address), and I agreed to try it out.

I got there, and saw in front of me a huge Roman style building of about 6-7 stories high. I went in, showered, changed, and went up to the seven floor, only to be told by the waiter that it was a straight massage place with no funny business. I turned and left right away, leaving 88 yuan at the cashier’s.

By now, the day had dawned. I took a cab to Chamber Sauna, and of course it was closed. I was really desperate, and walked two blocks down to the Holiday Inn Vista, a four-star hotel in which I had stayed a couple of years ago. I got up to the third floor, and was relieved to find that they were still open. I immediately took a shower and got into my room, and the manager brought in four or five girls for me to choose.

There was nothing really exceptional about the service – the standard cat bath, rimming, blowjob and sex. The girl, though, was very nice and gentle, and I felt very happy. The damage was about 800 yuan.

I lived 5 mins walking distance from this Oriental Roman Spa place and I had tried it and found that it is a full Legit place. Nice place of a relaxing Winter Sunday. This is a report about nothing, like the famous TV show. Visited some of the more popular bars in Shanghai, not my usual scene, but wanted to check out the talent.

First stop was to Bourban Street. Been there a couple of times in the past, they manage to [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) me off every time. Once it was a cover at the door. This time no cover, but to get a table was 500 RMB in purchases, thought no way. But at close to 50 RMB a drink, it would not take long to reach that goal. Got stuck in the corner with three friends and proceeded to watch the action, or lack there of. Seemed full of professionals, love to watch the tourists make their move on a pro, such studs. Left after one drink, band was good, but all the talent had seen better days.

Then went over to Zappata's. Packed as usual, large mix of people, young, old, pro and non-pro. If standing, leaning or dancing while you nurse your beer, this is the place for you. Saw nothing outstanding, except those attached.

Note care when mongoring on this street of bars, full of hacks trying to get you to go with them to rip-off joints.

Couple of nights later went to check out Bar Rouge. Always known about it, suggested it to visitors but never been. Priced about the same as Bourban street, but would say atmosphere, comfort and service is far better at Rouge. A mid-week visit, may not protray the bar in its best light. It was not overly busy, but interesting all the same. This trip the crowd was a mix of youngish Europeans, travelling western business people many in tow with their Chinese collegues and a few of the mom and pop tourists. Plenty of Chinese girls either looking for Mr. Right or for sale right now. Talked to a couple of them, but seemed many had ridden too long and hard. But there were a couple of lookers and they were available for the right price. Spent a couple of hours just watching the action. Two or three guys would come in, particularly in business suits, the pro's would swarm. Almost got knocked over when I came between them and their prey. Must have been expensive, as I saw no one pick up. I would go back and try this place again, probably work the free-be group, as I suspect the pro's have high expectations.

Left Bar Rouge to check out Park 97. I've been to this place a couple of times, always accompanied. Wanted to check it out without having attachments. Can't give a good evaluation, there was almost no one there. Downstairs was closed, maybe twenty people on the second floor, mostly couples or mixed groups. No drink, stayed maybe five minutes and headed out.

Only one I would check out again is Bar Rouge, maybe Park 97 on a busier night. Continue to believe bars on Hengshen Lu are a waste of time.

And what was it with the police last night, almost every corner in Shanghai had a police car with his lights on?

A number of visits to Tongren Lu over the last several months still prevents a definitive description of the bar scene on this street.

A start to the evening, if in need of a western meal, both the Blue Frog or the City Diner (Tongren Lu and Nanjing road). Personal favorite is the City Diner, open twenty four hours, gets you those rare delicacies in China such as a rootbeer float, pumpkin pie and a pretty decent hamburger.

Now to the bars and what is clear is that this street has no theme, except girls.

Been to Blue Angel a couple of times and this bar has no mission statement. Lights are kept low, which is good as the decor is crap. Walked in with three or four friends and the girls descend in mass. Wanting drinks, play dice. Quality was pretty ok. So we selected about five, first stop of the evening, so no intentions other than a little grab ass and loosening up. I was the entertainment guide on this particular evening, so shooting the best over to my mates. Before long the Filipino band starts up, three girl group, who looked better than they sang. But what they lacked in skill they made up for in volume. I've talking to a girl who I knew from another bar, when up walks this librarian looking girl, glasses and all. If you know Tongren Lu, you know there are always bars restarting, remodeling and re-opening, often under different names.

It seems of late they have stepped up security and the beggars seem less and more under control. On this particular evening of late, I am on a mission to see all or most of the bars. Many of these are on second or third floors. Its a rainy night, meaning less crowds, but that only discourages the tourists, the residents know limiting your travels to clear nights in Shanghai will limit your fun.

First stop is Manhattan, a very popular and often mentioned nightspot. Its early, so the bar is not crowded, but a comfortable group is there. The bar is not bad, most of the action is on the first floor. Had a two girl filipino group singing (I think called angel, but not sure). Actually pretty good, such that I was drawn to the front of the stage to listen,forgetting about what talent may be around. Eventually did notice a rather large chested, tall western girl, who seemed to be making the right eye contact. I would imagine Russian, but while good eye candy, it was too early and was not interested. Anyway, enjoyed the band so much, had a couple of drinks, before heading out. Manhattan is not a bar with bar girls husseling drinks. Girl wants you to buy her a drink here, chances are you are on to something else.

Left Manhattan to check out the other bars, which I will post later, but seeking respite after those inspections, I returned to Manhattan's a couple of hours later.

Last stop Manhattan, the night is still young and not ready to go home, thinking at least I can enjoy the music. The girl group is still singing and the bar is now getting packed, unlike the rest of the bars. A lot more men, but in the multiples of girls. Manhattan's is a pretty straighforward in its offerring. It serves drinks and provides entertainment. They don't hassel you for buying drinks for yourself or their girls and the girls that are there are treated as customers, like anyone else. This means you have complete freedom to select your target without having to see around the 40 year old hag that has attached herself to your arm.

The girl group finished up their act around 10 or 11, then on come the pole dancers. On the large overhead screens the bar is playing a continuous loop of the nauty take outs of one of the fashion TV programs. You know the ones where the models are topless, nip slips, thong butts and see through tops and bottoms. Seen better pole dancers, but give the girls an "A" for effort, and given the poles are right there on the bar (so they have very little space), they were striking very revealing poses. No nudity, thong and bikini top type clothes. The decor is mid-market for China, but the bar is well laid out, the seats are comfortable and good mix of bar sitting, tables, booths and then upstairs the private lounge area (did not see many people go up there).

As the minutes and hours tick, this bar is becoming packed. I would have to guess the girls out numbered the men, perhaps two to one. And they just kept on coming in. I think all the girls here (at least those that come in without a guy attached) are pro's or semi-pro. The bar must also keep them straight, as even though their numbers were great, I did not see any pushing themselves on customers in an obnoxious way. If they are interested in you, they may sit or stand by you, reach over for a drink, ask to borrow your lighter or walk by you with that look in their eye. Having bored you through parts one and two, I will complete in this last submission.

From part 2, having left Manhattan's to check out the other bars, I did not go to all, but most, one from the other, walking down the street from the Blue Angel. Zanadu, Casablanca, De Je Vue, individual description is not merited. Decor ran from ordinary to poor. Many had pool tables, or other games. Woodstock, as you would expect has 60's hard rock, but set up around a number of pool tables. Many of these bars, including Woodstock, are littered with professional drink husslers. The prices vary, and some charge a pretty good price for what is a pretty small drink. While I don't think any of these places are rip-off by nature, I would watch my drink tab very carefully if buying lady drinks. Some of the ladies, I suspect, would not be adverse to adding a couple of drinks not bought. Did have this happen at Blue Angel, but the management, upon complaint made it right and waived the excess charge.

Now I don't mind drink husslers, if the view is good, the conversation fun and the girl is friendly (not mercenary), what is three or four dollars USA Its all about having a good time, no. A word or two about drink husslers, more for the resident, as the tourist won't have the time. The right hussler with the right guy can turn into a free-be or even a girlfriend. Some of these girls are university girls, looking to improve their english, find a western boyfriend, or frankly even girls get horny. Spending their evenings at school or in the bar does not give them much time for a social outlet. So, given the right girl and the right guy, this is not always a wasted effort. But for the tourists, give us residents a break and don't put your moves on. It hardens the girls, a good one takes time, dates and patience. I know you will ignore this as we are all casanova's at heart.

Making the tour of all these bars, hunting alone, I won't say this experience was frustrating, but it lacked my having control. Almost all of these places had a ton of girls, many standing outside to welcome customers, an equal or greater number inside to "serve". Almost all of these bars (save Woodstock) were empty of customers (some had none, one or two had one). Probably due to the rain, but as mentioned before, Manhattan was getting packed by this time. I am not slamming these bars and given what I saw, will return. But with a lack of customers and running alone, it was too hard to disengage from the undesireables. I suspect a number of these bars had pros and semi pros, as Manhattan heated up later in the evening, I saw some familiar faces file in.

Now I've heard some reports about Tongren Lu, and people having trouble there. Some muggings, pick pocket and some girl rip-offs. I've never had a problem there, but then I don't do stupid things (most of the time anyway). Generally I get a sense of who I'm going home with, don't get drunk and don't let people touch me on the street or stop to engage same in conversations.
