The scene in Tangxia is different to the one in CP. It is much more geographically spread out.

There are 2 concentrations of BBS that I know of; one around Heping hotel near the centre of town and another near a place called New Village Hotel in a factory area. Heping is better because it is nearer the centre of town. Both totally girl friendly. Most hotels in Tangxia are. Prices same as CP. 150 standard. Sometimes 130. Quality is comparable to CP but less choice.

There are 5 good saunas: Sangem Hotel(number 88 has a body to die for), Yiking (red rope used to be available) Golden Lake (number 78 does anal but she may have left), Sunny Business hotel (try A133; she does anal) and Jin san (lower end). Total costs: 500-1000 total. Usually excellent service. Sangem is by far the most high class and expensive.

Tangxia is not worth a separate visit because it does not offer anything more than CP but is much more inconvenient to get around compared to CP. I monger there because I play golf nearby. The best (Cheapest and efficient) way from States into CP is to fly into HK and switch to Dongguan Coach at the basement level of HKIA. 120HK$ and 2 hours (including estimate of 30 mins to cross border on non-peak immigration crowd) get you to CP, Hui Hwa or Hui Mei Hotel, etc. Only problem with HKIA arrival into CP is that you have to cross the immigration twice, that’s also half a page gone from your passport! Whilst if you go through GZ airport you will have to transfer twice, one from Airport to Train station, take the train and from DG train station, cab to hotel. Whilst for HKIA airport its one transfer into coach and it will takes you right to your hotel. If you are traveling heavy… GZ is not a great place to land, it will certainly require you to drag those luggages all over the place during those transfer. My preference: I fly into HKIA, take the Sky Limo which bring me direct from HKIA into the Chinese border without alighting from the car at HK border, cross into China, the Car takes me directly into CP whichever hotel I am putting up with. 220HK$... Max. 2 hours (unless there is a jam at the Chinese border).

Depends on which part of States; Cathay does have flights into LAX, SFO and NYC. I am just curious why they didn't have one for Seattle. Only problem with United or Star alliance is you need 50,000 to be Gold member which will then allows you to use the Lounge. No problem for me; of my 1K.

Except the fact that when flying from and to USA, those TSA procedures sucks! The last time I forgot to put those tubes of lube in that stupid transparent bag for inspection, the TSA kick a big fuss out of it. In the end, I just ask them take or throw it into the bin! When you are in CP, where do you usually go to exchange USD for RMB?

Was thinking of going back end of the year. I was there in March. Just happened to be there when ISG convention was in town. Buddies of mine hired a car in HK to take us in to CP it ended costing us $2000 HKD.

At the HKIA, there are two Exit after the Customs, if you take the exit the right side of the Baggage claims,(reason for this is because it is nearer to the place the boarding station for the transport) once you pass the customs you will see the tourist information counter. Turn right (That the only way you can go) walked pass the Train tickets machines, you will see a Foreign Exchange counter on your left, the right hand side, you will see the Skylimo counter. It is clearly marked "Cross Border Transport". Normally there will be a Usher in green uniform standing around there asking you where do you want to go. Just tell her that you want to go to Chang Ping, and your Hotel name. Make sure you tell them you want the "Small Car service" If I remember correctly, (shit I am getting old!) it is HK$220, you can also pay with Credit Cards, US$, RMB etc. (Hey this is Hong Kong!), upon purchasing the tickets they will place a round "SKYLIMO" sticker on your shirt/Jacket (Do not remove this. the usher will lead you to the basement on the right side of the Arrival hall where you will be transferred to a 7 seaters MPV. You will share the MPV with others. Sometime if you arrived there at odd hours, you may have to wait about 10 - 15mins for at least 3 to 4 person on the MPV before they will set off. If you want to Hire and Private car, share it with your own friends, you can also hire that at the same counter, it will cost no more than HK$1,200 per car.

If you had already walked passed the counters and exit to the main Arrival hall by mistake, no worries, just look for SKYLIMO counter nearer to the left side of the arrival hall. There is several Transport company with counters there, these are for Coaches, Private cars, E&E transport etc. You may also try asking around if you have time. But if not, look for SKYLIMO or ladies in Green/Orange Uniforms or just people around for "SKYLIMO".

These 7 seaters MPV will take you through HK border immigration without needing you the alighting from the car, but you still need to alight at the China border (Huang gang Border). You are to carry your own luggage clear the Immigration, clear the Customs and at the other end, look for SKYLIMO ladies with Green/Orange uniforms. Most of the time they will approach you once you arrive at the exit. How they know? Your Round SKYLIMO sticker! Here's the tricky part, if you use the "Small Car service" sometimes they will try to tell you that their small car is on their way but you may have to wait 30 mins, they have a coach waiting to go to CP and if it is OK for you, you can leave immediately. My experience, this coach actually does goes to CP but it will stopp by 3 other stops along the way. The whole journey will take you at least 2 over hours from the border before you Arrive in CP. So DON'T accept the Coach! They do this sometime mainly because if you arrive in HuangGang border at odd hours, there are only 1 or 2 persons going to CP, they just want to safe a trip for the drivers and push you onto the Coach service. The MPVs are parked on the Right side of the Huang Gang complex. You will walk passed the Restrooms.

On the Money exchange: My Advise, is to get them exchange at the Borders crossing, if you looks for this "shops" with China Construction bank logos, or Bank of China logos. you can get them exchange there. Otherwise, it is a little difficult to get RMB with US$ in CP. The China Construction Bank and Bank of China in CP will take in US$ for RMB. However, you have to queue up in the long line. There is a China Construction bank across the road from Miraton hotel and Bank of China at the far end of the same street if you are walking toward Lucky Hotel from Miraton. You have to walk past Lucky hotel near the end of the street.

There are some good maps posted by Laowai123 and some other members on this threads so make sure you study them before you set of. I normally get my Money exchange before getting into CP because there is less hustle and also I do not want to be seen walking out of the Bank in CP with stack of 100RMB notes. If I get them exchange at teh borders, I can nicely lock up the extra cash and wallet in the hotel safe, carry only enough cash to go around (Normally 500RMB is enough unless you are going to the KTV).

Lastly: American Express Travel Checks are no good in CP or most parts of Guangdong. The last time round our buddy Santa, had hard time getting cash for them in Dongguan.

BTW: 2000HK$ for a private car from HKIA to CP????? God... ! I think you guys been ripped off! I ever took a Limo from HKIA all the way to CP for HK$1500, the car was a Audi A6, dual plates, I think they call it a Diplomat's car because it does have a HK plate and a Guangdong license plate and it carries a red beacon on top. It took me right passed all the border immigration without me coming down from the car. My friend from HK arranged for this, I got no ideal where can I book it in HKIA.

Expected 4 great nights in Dongguan and surrounding.

-Night 1 : 7th floor Cinese Hotel (see previous report)

-Night 2 : back in hotel at 00.45 after long day with boring meetings and too tired (wakeup again at 6.30)

-Night 3 : same story as day 2

-Night 4 : shedule changed, traveling to HK (luckely had some time left in the afternoon to go to Bajun Hotel sauna in Guanzhou)

Next time, I stay 1 week to visit BBS scene, KTV (thx for the tips) and try 600 - 900 girls at 7th floor.

TIP : don't stay in Cinese Hotel. They aren't worth 5 stars: food is very good but rooms are old and service is horrible.

I went to Dongguan yesterday for a trade show, but didn't know the layout and came back to Shenzhen where I live instead.

From what I've heard, I need to go. I'd like to find some more info on the layout of the scene. Especially the cheaper scene.

Continental has the best price of tickets but I hate the leg rooms and the in-flights meal sucks! The service is bad too!

Cathay Pacific has the same leg room but the meals and service are slightly better. You pay 40 - 50% more for that.

United has the best legroom with their premier class. The meals are comparable to Cathay's but the service??? :( You pay 60% more compared to Continental. And there are only direct flights from LAX & SFO into HKG

NorthWest Airlines: Legroom, Meals, Service sucks. They don't have a direct flight from JFK into HKG, only from LAX, cost as much as United.

The Van is comfortable. Its a MPV which is not much a difference from a car. In fact, it is more spacious than a car.

Unfortunately I am home bound for USA next week. But I might drop by CP on my way back the week after. I’ll let you know via PM if I’m heading there.

They message you will get is "Unable to process your transaction - refer to issuer bank." or "Card transactions not excepted"

Never trust those small shops to exchange your money! Especially when you are not a regular to CP, you will not know which are the reputable ones. You may ended up with 5 out of 8 notes that are counterfeits! Although their rates may be better, it is not worth the risk. A friend of mine ended up getting 5 X 100RMB notes that are counterfeit out of the US$100 he changed. 8 to 1; he thought is a great deal! But he later found out that most of them are counterfeit and returned to the shop to confront them, they said that he wrongly accused them and threathen to beat him up if he continues to create a scene there. There are no prove for him and so he cannot go to the police.

I had a bad experience with even with the bank. I withdrawn 2000RMB from my local account and found later that one of the 100RMB note is counterfeit. This is The China Merchant Bank ATM next to Virgin Hotel. I cannot go back to the bank because they will fully deny it. The fact is, you can only get a counterfeit 100RMB note from the Bank. Nobody will or need to give you a 100RMB as change. The note now sits framed it up in front of my work table reminding me of how not to trust the Banks in China.

You are right about getting bad rate at the hotels, don't they always give bad rates? Whether it is in China, Japan, or USA or????

Some hotels (bigger ones) and Money changer shop are also set up such that you are able to get RMB by using your VISA or Master cards. But with that, you will get lousy rates, and pay an admin fee to the hotel Plus an admin fee to your bank.

Warning! Never use this option at those Money Changers Shop! Especially if your Credit cards do not need a Pin number for purchases. You will definitely find a lot of other transactions that you never authorise!

If you mean next to the Virgin Hotel, then that is a local Dongguan Bank and not a China Merchants ATM. I know, because I have a China Merchants account and tried to use my card there on my first trip to CP, didn't work. CM Bank is closer to the market street.

Never had a problem wit CCB next to McDonalds or the BoC on the opposite end of the road.

Well, your in China so yeah, it's gonna be a problem if you dont speak some Chinese (either Putonghua or Guangdonghua). If you want them to speak English and you don't wanna make any effort to learn the common tongue, then best you stay in Hong Kong and don't venture North across the border.

We can't recommend a single hotel for you, try you local travel agent.

The manager at the Bank of China repeatedly insisted that there was something wrong with my mastercard or my US bank account. When I asked him to cash a travelers check he told me to go to Shenzhen.

The problem was with their atm machines.

The atm networks go down all the time on weekends, and when they go down at (least in ZMT) they all go down for that particular bank. Theres nothing much the bank ppl can do cept shrug their shoulders. CMB has higher limits for me on an American CC than BoC. If you use BoAm, CMB is the bank you want to use for better rates.

I think its safer to use ATM or bring cash.

In a jam in ZMT, there is a off label money exchange/convenient store at the central bus stop in town next to the new agricultural bank (across the street from McD. Theres usually a line of hkers changing currencies outside anyways. I've had friends use this all the time and never had a fake bill problem. Although check the bills before you leave.

I still maintain bank accounts in the states, but always transfer "daily life" money into my Chinese account. If we get a chance to meet I will be able to show you two fake 100 notes and one fake 50 note with exect same Security markings as the true ones, you really need a machine to tell.

In most cases, you will not carry a machine around nor at the time of the exchange you would want to be seen going through a stack of 100s notes one by one. That will attract too much attention.

Most of the small shop that will pass you the fake notes will not place a machine in their shop for you to verify the notes. Why will they do that? Since they are going to cheat you they will try every means not to let you know isn't it?

So in conclusion; I had even got fake notes from Banks ATM machines, if banks cannot be trustable, how much can we trust those small shops? It is better Safe than Sorry.

I noticed some taxis cab drivers use ultraviolet flashlight on larger bills like 50s and 100s at night.

I have a very good fake 50 RMB. I showed to several people and most could not tell if it was real or fake. Another person used ultraviolet light on the fake and it DID show the infrared marking. I think the best way is to compare with a real one side by side and look/feel at all the security marking.

I would try to exchange my money at a bank since they have a machine that counts and check for fakes. It's better than an unknown source like a small store.

Agreed with Weelock on the Ultraviolet marking. 50 RMB notes should have a 50 that shines out under ultaviolet light however, the new fake ones also have this markings. You put the real and the fake side by side, you will notice that the fake ones have tone are lighter.

If we get a chance to meet I will be able to show you two fake 100 notes and one fake 50 note with exect same Security markings as the true ones, you really need a machine to tell.

In most cases, you will not carry a machine around nor at the time of the exchange you would want to be seen going through a stack of 100s notes one by one. That will attract too much attention.

Most of the small shop that will pass you the fake notes will not place a machine in their shop for you to verify the notes. Why will they do that? Since they are going to cheat you they will try every means not to let you know isn't it?

So in conclusion; I had even got fake notes from Banks ATM machines, if banks cannot be trustable, how much can we trust those small shops? It is better Safe than Sorry.

My 2 cents to the off-topic.

I find the situation not that bad to be honest. As the largets note is a 100 RMB, there is no danger of getting false exchange, if you stick to banks for getting cash (ATM or exchange).

I heard about ATMs giving out false notes however I havent had any case of that myself nor could one be confirmed who told me. In most cases it was apparent that a real note was switched against a fake note later in a taxi, which is common practice. Usually the taxi drivers sometimes the small shops do it. They switch your note against a fake and claim you gave them a fake. Watch the guys. My record was 4 notes switched by one driver in a row! I first played along as I knew my notes were ok, as I checked them in a machine before when receiving, to see how far he would go. After the 4th I wrote down his license number and told him he either gives me my real notes or I go to the police, of wich he happily complied and gave me the rie for free.

Please note that if you have problems with a taxi driver, theatratically write down his drivers license number (displayd right on the dashboard beside him)and show him you will complain. That helps a lot, its not a joke, if you complain to the taxi companies (they have english speaking hotlines now sometimes!) they do take that very seriously and fine the taxi driver or even fire them for serious coplaints (although definitely better in Guangzhou and Shenzhen).

The bigest problem I find are 50 RMB notes. As mentioned before by experiences people in this thread, dont give the taxi drivers (the main source of fake note distribution!) a chance and take small notes along, never pay your 20 RMB bill with a 100 note. Beside above extreme story that practice of exchanging one happend again at least 3 times to me within short time a few years ago. Fortunately I was able to spot the fakes or seen his switch so no damage, however I have learned that lesson and dont take further chances.

The 50 RMB fake can with some expertise easiliy be spottet:

1. The fake is smooth on the collor of the pic if you scratch with your fingernail there - the real one is rough form the print.

2. if you gently rub the fake note against a white wall or ceiling in a small shop, the wall stays clean - the real one leaves a slight green mark on the wall.

To check on watermarks is often in deed futile as the fakes are really very good now.

Very good point! In CP, we go around with those minivans that cost you 15RMB to anywhere. always have 10 and 5 RMB notes.

However never carry a stack of 100s, carry enough to get by for your outhings, and lock the rest (including your wallet) in the hotel.

for us mongers, get capital one credit card. they give you the true exchange rate no fees whatsoever. i was getting 7. 81 for hkd purchases and 7. 76 for china purchases.

at the hkia, there are two exit after the customs, if you take the exit the right side of the baggage claims,(reason for this is because it is nearer to the place the boarding station for the transport) once you pass the customs you will see the tourist information counter. turn right (that the only way you can go) walked pass the train tickets machines, you will see a foreign exchange counter on your left, the right hand side, you will see the skylimo counter. it is clearly marked "cross border transport". normally there will be a usher in green uniform standing around there asking you where do you want to go. just tell her that you want to go to chang ping, and your hotel name. make sure you tell them you want the "small car service" if i remember correctly, (shit i am getting old!) it is hk$220, you can also pay with credit cards, us$, rmb etc. (hey this is hong kong!), upon purchasing the tickets they will place a round "skylimo" sticker on your shirt/jacket (do not remove this. the usher will lead you to the basement on the right side of the arrival hall where you will be transferred to a 7 seaters mpv. you will share the mpv with others. sometime if you arrived there at odd hours, you may have to wait about 10 - 15mins for at least 3 to 4 person on the mpv before they will set off. if you want to hire and private car, share it with your own friends, you can also hire that at the same counter, it will cost no more than hk$1,200 per car.

if you had already walked passed the counters and exit to the main arrival hall by mistake, no worries, just look for skylimo counter nearer to the left side of the arrival hall. there is several transport company with counters there, these are for coaches, private cars, e&e transport etc. you may also try asking around if you have time. but if not, look for skylimo or ladies in green/orange uniforms or just people around for "skylimo".

these 7 seaters mpv will take you through hk border immigration without needing you the alighting from the car, but you still need to alight at the china border (huang gang border). you are to carry your own luggage clear the immigration, clear the customs and at the other end, look for skylimo ladies with green/orange uniforms. most of the time they will approach you once you arrive at the exit. how they know? your round skylimo sticker! here's the tricky part, if you use the "small car service" sometimes they will try to tell you that their small car is on their way but you may have to wait 30 mins, they have a coach waiting to go to cp and if it is ok for you, you can leave immediately. my experience, this coach actually does goes to cp but it will stopp by 3 other stops along the way. the whole journey will take you at least 2 over hours from the border before you arrive in cp. so don't accept the coach! they do this sometime mainly because if you arrive in huanggang border at odd hours, there are only 1 or 2 persons going to cp, they just want to safe a trip for the drivers and push you onto the coach service. the mpvs are parked on the right side of the huang gang complex. you will walk passed the restrooms.

on the money exchange: my advise, is to get them exchange at the borders crossing, if you looks for this "shops" with china construction bank logos, or bank of china logos. you can get them exchange there. otherwise, it is a little difficult to get rmb with us$ in cp. the china construction bank and bank of china in cp will take in us$ for rmb. however, you have to queue up in the long line. there is a china construction bank across the road from miraton hotel and bank of china at the far end of the same street if you are walking toward lucky hotel from miraton. you have to walk past lucky hotel near the end of the street.

there are some good maps posted by laowai123 and some other members on this threads so make sure you study them before you set of. i normally get my money exchange before getting into cp because there is less hustle and also i do not want to be seen walking out of the bank in cp with stack of 100rmb notes. if i get them exchange at teh borders, i can nicely lock up the extra cash and wallet in the hotel safe, carry only enough cash to go around (normally 500rmb is enough unless you are going to the ktv).

lastly: american express travel checks are no good in cp or most parts of guangdong. the last time round our buddy santa, had hard time getting cash for them in dongguan.

btw: 2000hk$ for a private car from hkia to cp????? god... ! i think you guys been ripped off! i ever took a limo from hkia all the way to cp for hk$1500, the car was a audi a6, dual plates, i think they call it a diplomat's car because it does have a hk plate and a guangdong license plate and it carries a red beacon on top. it took me right passed all the border immigration without me coming down from the car. my friend from hk arranged for this, i got no ideal where can i book it in hkia.

Honestly not my cup of tea only did this due to some overseas friends visiting.

The overal experince is a little better than the Amazon I visited last year.

I think it depends how busy 6 is. We walked in just to see what it is like & we were taken straight to Level 7 (6 is fully booked). We (4 of us) told the manager our intensions to examine the facilities and the goods before commiting the service. We were lead to a room ( a little bigger than the standard Miraton room with bigger shower base and Spa tub). In 5 minutes, a lineup of 6 gilrs intruduced themselves ( at least 2girls 8+) we then learned that we can take the girl back to our room & have theservice performed.
To have the service carried out in the sauna: $560 but if you have the service done in your room only $400 ($100 for the manager and $300 for the girl). I made 2 mistakes here. (1) I should have picked my girl their & then as when I rang the manager 30 mins later, a different lineup (only 3 this time) come to my room (2) No milk, hot water and cold water ice in my room so I missed out on part of the service. Not to mentioned the SPA service (apparently I was told the girl carried out some servie in the SPA.

Anyway my girl (can't remember her name now) did an above average service
I actually told her I tried Sauna at HuiHua last year & just want to make comparison & I think this may have an impact on the overall service

i feel better that they only charge me 700-800rmb... maybe it is corporate rate. we do use them very often to and from HKIA and other areas. Try calling them, and if they give you a higher rate, tell them that you are thinking about using them and recommend them to all your friends, maybe they will lower to give you my lower rates. When i get back next month, i will speak to the exec at the company about that. PM me if you have any other questions. 700-800 is the going rate for all the cross border limo services if you book the entire car. They will also pick you up most anywhere in Hong Kong for the same money. I just used one a couple of weeks ago from Pokfulam area to Shenzhen for 800. If you are willing to share the car with others at the border or airport they charge 130-150 from SZ <>HKIA. They also offer DG for 230, I think, but I am not sure if they go to CP.

If you do not want to get out at the border crossings, you must be specific. There are different license plates with different priveleges. You should tell them in advance your preference. Some of the service providers do not have cars with the right plates.

i feel better that they only charge me 700-800rmb... maybe it is corporate rate. we do use them very often to and from HKIA and other areas. Try calling them, and if they give you a higher rate, tell them that you are thinking about using them and recommend them to all your friends, maybe they will lower to give you my lower rates. My last trip earlier this month, I wanted to see Humen because I had heard it was good for shopping. Also had a semi-business meeting in HK to attend so wanted to buy some smart casuals to be used for that off-beat meeting.

We took the bus from the CP Bus station near the railway station. It takes about an hour and was cheap enough - something like 18 or was it 28 rmb each one way. The bus uses the highway partly and also crawls through Da Lang and some township before the highway.

The shopping street(s) we ended up in did not have much for men (in fact almost nothing) but, I could see that it was a shopping haven for the girls from CP having a much wider range and prices below Shenzhen I was told.

It all depends on when you are going.
On the weekends (Friday and Saturday) it would be recommened to book a room in advance. Otherwise it shouldn't be a problem.

Tipping and Over-paying is different.

Tipping is when you get good service, you give her WILLINGLY the extra money in which they feels good. They will likely to give you equal amount or better service the next time. An extra 10RMB for transport is considered a tip, or an extra 100RMB for CIM is also considered as a tip as these are rewards for a job well done.

Overpaying is; you know the standard price; they ask for more then the standard, you are too dam lazy to negotiate or you are too overpowered by your little head, who is in control at that moment, you just pay them what they asked for. After the service, you start to regret (some don't) and many a time, the girl you had just overpaid, thinks that you dam stupid! You will most unlikely to pick her from the lineup again. I also think that OWL was posting his experiences and thoughts and most just jumped on him. Really, when it comes down to it, it's HIS money and point #2 above is simply too strong of a reason to turn back.

Let me give you some points that might be reasonable for the same John that wasn't discussed.

1. John is drunk and/or tired and doesn't feel like haggling over a few dollars/euros. They always convert RMB to their local currency. Don't ask me why people do this as I still don't have a clue of it. They are in China now, they should play by China rules, but their brains keep using today's exchange rates.

2. John wants sex and already has a hard enough time with his huge Lao Wai dick that makes him compelled to pay more to even get serviced. John has been turned away enough times by the mamasan's as many girls don't want to service him. I have no problem with a guy's personal decisions. If he wants to give the girl an extra 800RMB, that's fine. Spent last night in CP for another famous monger "convention", first off was a footie at the Walter Hotel, 42 rmb per person for one hour, always good place. While out in CP the other night we were doing a tour, and all the shops in the Yalan area quote a price of 200 rmb (100/100) while all the girls in town behind the Hui Mei and Mobile BBS's charge 150 rmb (50/100).

I have been to CP countless times and I don't really see a difference in quality of girls, plus we have to pay 30 rmb for the taxi to and from that area and your only talking spending an hour or less with the girl.

We all know the quality of service is not really based on the shop(I dislike Jojo's girls overall which is in Yalan) but rather the girl, so you can pay an extra 50+Taxi for shit service or great service, as well as you can pay 150 for the same experience in town.

I suspect that the local guys and some hard-bargaining Hongkies may get 150 rmb at the Yalan. But the rate for laowais, and those that associate with laowais has been set at 200 rmb, and it is next to impossible to get the mommies to agree to 150.

For me, I still prefer the Yalan at 200 rmb. If looks are your main criteria, then there really isn't a difference. But I find that the Hui Mei alley girls act a little too pro, the Yalan girls have a better attitude and provide better service. This is generally speaking of course, BBS is always hit and miss.

I have only done about half a dozen Hui Mei alley girls, but have not yet gotten a "fantastic" experience there. With my favourite shop/mommy at Yalan, I figure my chances are 1/3=soso 1/3=good 1/3=fantastic.
