I have this friend of mine my age, who is very much involved with the invisible going-ons in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

In terms of my KTV life and experience, I've found that certain people mesh well in that setting. And for the ones that don't, it's usually a once only experience with my buddies. We generally like to drink Chivas and Green Tea with it being heavier on the green tea. I don't mind managers and friends coming into share a drink. How much of a difference could they really make? (I know some of you think it could be a lot), but honestly, I think that the overall difference in a week's trip for me, whether it's $100 or $200 USD in the end for me to be absolutely strict vs. Carefree, we are generally just carefree. (but our mentality is a little different when we are on vacation vs. Ones that travel there more often).

I don't think one thought process is right over other, I'm just not one to care that much if others come in, drink, eat, on our tab, etc. I think I've just gotten used to it. I used to say "who the F was that? ! " then I soon learned, it's just the playing Chinese way. To the same extent, we always get girls we don't pay for to come party in our room and they are equally as "friendly" as the girls we DO pay for. Perhaps in hopes that they may get picked for the night to go out (some actually do).

One thing that really does bug me, are annoying DJ's that try to join into the games. Especially ugly ones. Sorry, but I have soft spot for cute DJ's. The more you drink, the more you can drink and vice versa. Result - cheaper bills, healthier liver, never hung-over - and..... Two stories, absolutely true...

First Story

First time in China, no idea of any "scene" and had not even set foot in CP. Went out with friends to a club in SZ. I had mongered before, so I knew the game, but it was always obvious (i.e. LOS/PI, etc.). So we go to a night club in SZ (dancing, beer, etc.), and I just arrived, so I'm with some baggage, sit down, have a good time with my two buddies and their dates. I'm the fifth wheel. I figure, at the end of the night, I'd just find a hotel (close to their apartment), and go have some fun the next day at some KTV out there or something... Well, as the night club is closing and the patrons leaving, my buddies sees a random girl and it was TRULY random, she just happened to be in front of us, asked her if she wanted to go out with us...

From my own experience living in CP, I have "dated" a few WG's and massage girls. We go shopping, dining, watching DVD's and just generally hanging out. Just came back from a few days at CP. I am a regular there but over the last months have heard some horror movies that wld like to share with all.

A local friend that works in one of the hotel told me that there has been several incidents of guys not paying or paying less than what was agreed. In all of these cases, the gals went out and came back with their managers or boyfriends and demanded more than the balance owing saying that they have been inconvenienced. Those guys end up paying and then getting out of town on the next available ttransport. One guy packed up and left in the middle of the night. Seperately I heard of one incident of a guy who was drunk ended up getting chopped by a few guys. He had to be transported back to HKG in the middle of the nite. Also my hotel friend told me of cases where the hotel guests got all of their money stolen by gals who didn't work in K's. I think CP is getting more and more violent and dangerous from when we started going there years ago. My hotel friend says that there has been alot of people coming to CP lately to make a living probably because of the Olympics. So guys, be careful and lock up your valuables.

If you're in dongguan city, as in dongcheng/nancheng, then the river must be at nancheng towards Wan Jang direction. That's the only river i could think of. The closest bar/club action area around there should be at Yinfeng Road. There's 2 popular hotels there, which are YinCheng Hotel (no sauna, but has direct busses to hong kong) and YinFeng hotel which has quite a decent sauna.

Since you said that the bar has sort of an old west theme, i'm thinking it should be there. Because the bars/clubs in Bar Street (jiu ba jie) are rather chinese-y with all the glaring neon lights.

Also, i havent encountered any red ropes here. It's still a huge mystery to me. I've asked my old timer local friend, and he advised me against it. Said it wasnt worth it at all. I'm still curious about it, from all the reports i've read from here though.

This place is supposedly a legit spa/massage/foot massage place. But of course, being in dongguan... nothing is 100% legit. You can still get tail, if u try hard enough, the right way.

I like going to this place. Usually when you enter, you're asked by the front desk if u want to shower or not.

Yes: you get a blue/green tag and you go in to the changing room to undress in front of the shower boy's eyes and walk around nude to take a shower, and come back and wear their in house clothes.

No: you get a yellow tag and just walk in, pass the locker room, into the main area.

After the shower area (there's male AND FEMALE shower areas), there's the main hall where there's lots of foot-massage type of seats with TVs attached to each one, where anyone can rest and do nothing there. Like all spas, u can order food and eat there or anything. You can even stay overnight (24 hours) and sleep there if u want.

(There are actually specific male masseurs for the female clients, and i've heard stories of those female clients actually bringing those male masseurs out for... god knows what.)

For foot massage, there's the 2nd floor. Go up and you'll be asked if u want foot massage or body massage. What's so different of this place from other foot massage in dg? One obvious part is the uniform. Usually it's tight-fitting, short skirt and boots involved. Unfortunately, foot massage girls are harder to hit or it's almost impossible to get action in the room itself.

The worst part of that is, after all the foot massage, they will ask if u want to get your tummy "rubbed" or not. That's just an excuse for brushing against your wang. One memorable position is when she's facing me, and she's stretching her arms to reach and "massage" the back of my neck... which causes her cleavage to conveniently rest on an erect member.

If you were to strike any naughty deal with her, she'll just tell you to go upstairs for the oil massage. I suppose this is a clever ruse by the owner to convince people to spend more in that establishment.

For the body/oil massage, you have to go up another level and given another room. Usually it's the typical naked oil massage.. with some emphasis on the "member" area after she's done at the back. The difference is, (the girls that do it right) they dont directly "attack" your member and jack you off furiously. I dont know what it's called in english, but they will tease/massage your member slowly in a very erotic way, that you can even call it an art form of handjobs.

The closest thing i've heard to such thing is 2nd hand report from my friend who went to macau just for this kind of "massage" which had a specific cantonese name, which i cant remember. I think it was "tai wan gan" or something. Unrelated to Taiwan the country.

The girls are completely dressed, but in normal bra + panties and translucent lingerie. It's hard, but not impossible to get the girl undressed or anything. And it's even harder (but not impossible) to actually f--- the girl in the room. Bring your own condoms though, because they dont have em. It's THAT legit.

The food there is quite decent, and the only place here i've managed to come across indonesian fried rice in the menu. Yum.



Seriously, this place has got so many KTV and BBS and Sauna reports... but why isnt there more on foot massage places, when the action there is just aplenty. Plus, they're waaaay easier and higher chances of being the so called "free fuck"... well of course u pay in a different way... meals, etc. But still, those that enjoy the chase, this is highly recommended.

She'll do FS in the foot massage room for 200RMB tip. Foot massage is a bit on the pricey side at 40RMB an hour.

Also, I wouldn't want to be in a situation where it was my word against a local group ...... its hard to see that as a win win opportunity with a authority representative.

I've been to a hospital in China once. It was for a blood test and when I saw the doctors reusing the needle that was when I left and went back to a place I felt more comfortable with for medical attention. This was a large second tier city and CP is no second tier.

I am no expert either but these things are never been far from my mind. Given these experiences maybe its best to err on the side of caution. One thing for sure, I wouldn't want to be taking on a couple of rabble rousers as a foreigner in China. I'd walk away first! Even the police need to get special Superintendent permission to use force in normal situations (unless its a politically sensitive situation). Also, I wouldn't want to be in a situation where it was my word against a local group ...... its hard to see that as a win win opportunity with a authority representative.

I've been to a hospital in China once. It was for a blood test and when I saw the doctors reusing the needle that was when I left and went back to a place I felt more comfortable with for medical attention. This was a large second tier city and CP is no second tier.

I am no expert either but these things are never been far from my mind. Given these experiences maybe its best to err on the side of caution. I am constantly amazed by foreigners turning up with barely a handful of Chinese words & treating the place like a Go Go bar heaven. Maybe its just a matter of time until something sparks an incident ?

They believe it's their only retribution in certain situations, because most likely a hotel or KTV will side with you in most instances. Now mind you, in places like the big big hotels, these guys are well protected by various aspects of both the government and criminal element, so the average thug dare not cause problems in those establishments...

but in other establishments, I think that there may be that added threat...

obviously that doesn't protect you from being followed and beat up on some street or alleyway.

Please keep in mind that I've seen guys get straight up blindsided and punched on the street. Usually local altercations, but the Chinese aren't shy in using their fists.

As tough as some of you guys may think you are, against 5-6 guys, some brandishing sticks or bats, you're not going to win. The best thing in most situations is to swallow the 50 -200 RMB difference your complaint would have warranted over a situation and call it a lesson learned.

Even if the girl does not deliver as promised, other than raising an issue with the manager or her mommy, I don't take it further or force the issue. When there's a genuine dispute, then that's just business for the girl. But if you take it beyond that, they'll pay whatever to get your ass handed to you.

I think you just missed out on free fruit.. that's a regular thing at the hotel.. but then again, not knowing exactly your circumstances, hard to say. The larger hotels seem pretty safe in my book, but as always, I think you should always double check. I know staying at Hui Hwa (you pay more), they have cameras EVERYWHERE... and security is pretty good there...

Generally, these hotel guys are very serious about security because honestly one bad incident can spell millions in terms of revenue... you know how rumors can kill tourism in certain places...

Just note however, that most places that deliver fruit, etc, usually have GIRLS working... it's usually only room service/food that they actually have guys.. but I don't know about Walter Hotel.

i never met you when i lived in qiatou (little town next to cp) nor many of the local isg group during my 3 year stay. i was just back in china at the middle to end of may.

a buddy of mine that lives in cp now told me of how he was attacked not too far from hui mei earlier in may. this was surprising to me since he is approximately 188 cm and a little over 95 kg. he claimed a tall younger asian man came up from behind him and grabbed his chain from his neck. the guy took off running. my buddy used to be play football. so he turned on the speed and took after the guy. he said the one thing that was going through his mind was pure anger. he caught up to the guy and the guy swung around brandish a rather long knife. my buddy avoided the swipe but could tell that this guy knew how to use the knife and in no uncertain terms was he going to allow my friend to get close enough to him to be grabbed.

my friend then commented a taxi (sorry no branding implied in the account) swished past him from behind and pulled up a few yards ahead of the thief. the door swung open and the thief dived into the taxi. the taxi pulled away but not before my friend dived onto the back of the trunk. he tried punching the glass out but after the first hit the taxi fish tailed enough to shake him off and leave him in the street.

the strange thing is that the chain was nothing more than a large link silver chain. sure it had sentimental value for my friend but it was not going to fetch a high price for the thief when sold. maybe the guy thought is was platinum.

so if your wearing items that appear to be of value consider yourself a walking target. i have to take off anything of visual value to walk around and feel comfortable in cp. stay safe and be aware of those around you, not scared, just aware.

The most valuable thing I travel with is usually my laptop.. but it's dispensible, in the sense that while worth alot to me, I have backups of everything just in case so it's not life altering (I know some folks have lots of VALUABLE information).. i use a network drive over the internet to store my files, etc.

As far as Cash, I usually have perhaps 10000 rmb at the beginning of my trip, stored in the safe and other areas...

In all honesty, I travel with false bottom items... Basically items that look like every day items like soda cans, etc... that contain wads of cash... I keep some money in the safe (maybe 3 thousand) and the rest, goes in my hideaway...

Someone would have to really know what they're doing to get ahold of the loot, because it's so unobvious. I travel with it throughout the world and way better than a safe in my opinion... of course I haven't had a problem with either, so that's just my opinion.

The only other valuable is my phone, and some electronics, which I religiously put in my closet when entering the room...

if you are going to fall for this, make sure you TEST it before letting the guy take off.

I wonder if this was the guy who went after my buddy's chain. (Forgot to mention earlier my buddy wasn't even walking alone when he was relieved of his silver necklace.

The local businesses should realize that if their area is not considered safe to walk that they will loose the normal walk in customers. Mainly visiting foreigners or HK guys. Word about bad things spreads pretty fast. If it is nipped in the bud then people will relax. I wouldn't be surprized if they hired some guys to deal with a thief screwing with their clients.

I lived in the area of CP for over 3 years and visited CP many times and was only robbed personally once and that was soon after moving there. The robbery wasn't in CP. (A motorcycle tag team drive by got my thin gold chain, luckily not the heavier gold medalion hanging from it.) Point being CP was not a scarey place to me. I'm not a big strapping guy and I walked a lot of places alone in that town. I guess you just have to look like a target to become a victim.

Whenever I go to a hotel in China, I usually lock up all my valuables when I leave my room or when I have a wg there. I would lock up my laptop, passport, and money in the safe and also other stuff in my suitcases with a lock. Who knows what those girls can do to your stuff? I heard once some wg left a opened condom in one her customer's suitcase and it was later discovered by that customer's wife. oops.. I do not want that to happen when my girlfriend look through my stuff at home. Also, I would make a copy of my passport and take it with me wherever I go. Stay safe.

your buddy must be a fellow texan like myself. i think i know exactly who you're talking about and it kind of surprised me as well when he told me the story a few weeks ago. considering he is a fairly large fella, speaks decent chinese and is seen in cp everyday for the past few years. didn't he scrape up his leg pretty good in that incident as well?

i have seen pickpocket crimes go down in sz a few times and even stopped one once, by body checking the would be thief into one of those corrugated tin construction fences. my chinese assistant, who was with me, said that was very dangerous and was scared to death.

best advice, i can give is; don't flaunt it and don't act it. i see foreigners coming here all the time, who look ripe for the picking to a would be thief.

However, they got the wrong character in Chinese for "gan1". Instead of 乾 (gan1) they used 幹 (gan4). And 幹 (gan4) is indeed slang for "fuck".

So,

So yeah, with that misspelling, I bet you someone ran it through some translation software, and it came back with "Mural of new day fucks red wine"!

I don't know how to explain it... pretty girls are pretty girls, and sure, they're fun to bang.. but I just can't get it going if the girl isn't into it. Telling a mommy that you have given good business to that the service is bad sometimes work. Early this year when I hooked up with another monger, I had this mommy send over a gal over for ST. A few hours later I got a call from my monger friend that this gal is creating a lot of problem and want even more than agreed upon amount. Confirmed it works! Went with Bill and Santa (Ole B and S!!) and not only did CoCo (note - not JoJo!!) gave me her recommendations - the both of them pretty well came out exactly the way she described.

Okay, so maybe some of you can chime in. I know I went with Santa over to the hotel next to Swan lake and the rooms were refurbished and pretty nice. can't remember the rates, but it was close to the ones above 290-300 or so...

I personally always stay at Hui Hwa.. but am rethinking whether it's worth it.. I mean essentially pay about 440-490 depending on weekday/weekend rates... I like the location, convenience, gym, pool, and the KTV at the hotel, BUT I want your opinions on which is really worth staying at.

When I started I stayed at Hui Mei BEFORE HH was built, and that was fine too in terms of accomodations.. nothing too fancy, but just as good as your average Marriot room...

So with that being said.. I know price is a factor.. what's the best value out there.. and for those on vacation, does that really matter? I mean the difference of $20 per day for us on vacation doesn't make that much of a difference.. with HH and its amenities, really nice rooms, now they have FLAT SCREENS in their VIP rooms (floors 28-30)... I like their DVD players too.. Point is, I don't mind spending the extra cash on vacation..

but perhaps I can get something JUST as good for less... Anybody seen the serviced apartments above Royal KTV / Manhattan I think it's called.. any thoughts on it? Are they by lease only??

The good news on the Miraton - they've fixed the leaking showers by replacing the marble strip at the bottom of the shower door with one that slopes drastically inwards. Fixed it yes - but still no match for the way that these gals still trash the bathroom regardless!!

The bad news - rates gone up RMB 20 - 338 weekday, 388 week-ends. Hell this is more expensive than even the Hui Hua at 328 for their standard rooms. But as the gal at the Miraton pointed out, the deluxe room at the Hui Hua is higher than the rate I was charged for the Miraton deluxe room I stayed at!

Yes, HH includes breakfast. I have stayed at Miraton + HM before but prefer HH. Sauna girl my room for $400 is correct. You pay more if you prefer to stay at the sauna room, which is free after midnight.

HH has complimentary breakfast, too.
HH has sauna deals too (but I think it's 50 rmb more than Miraton's deal.)

Think you overpaying. We usually pay 328-358 on weekday weekend. Lately they've been tacking on 15% service fee, but if you get a VIP card, it pretty much discounts that.

HH is better. The carpets don't smell musky like at the Miraton. That may not matter to some, but it bothers me. Haven't stayed at the Miraton in a while, but IIRC, it was same price as HH. HH is better. The carpets don't smell musky like at the Miraton. That may not matter to some, but it bothers me. Haven't stayed at the Miraton in a while, but IIRC, it was same price as HH. Lately though, HH has instituted a no AMEX policy which annoys me a bit, but would still rather stay there than Miraton.
Yup, HH is a newer and bigger hotel. The lobby is much nicer and has WI FI. I think it is cheaper too???

As for ktv, I know HH has more girls. I never been to Miraton ktv so I can not comment on quality.

Restaurants, never go to the the expensive Japanese tepanyaki type restaurant in HH, highly overpriced and not that good tasting. The Chinese restaurant in Miraton has pretty good dim sum and is the ISG dim sum of choice.

After chatting for a while with Wadman, i realized that i know 2 places in dg that actually offers catwalk of the sauna ladies for show (plus prizes for the guests too) before you actually pick them and boinking them.

It was my first time last night and was a pretty interesting event.

It's the typical sauna hotel, but at the 2nd floor, they specially set up a stage for these kind of events. The event starts everyday at 3pm and 7:30pm. It's a free for all (but i think you need to call the captain and tell them you're coming) and you dont need to be a vip or anything to attend.

Basically before the show starts, they line up (not on the stage) the A-grade ladies for every one to see. When the show starts, basically it's some old english songs (britney) or some weird chinese songs playing loudly at the background with dimmed lights and the chicks strutting their stuff on the stage 4-6 at at time.

Kind of like the typical catwalk that they come out in sixes and one by one they go down the catwalk and parade a bit, before going back to the back to stand a bit more until everyone in that group has finished strutting their stuff. Once finished, they go back to the backstage and followed by another group of ladies. The ones that come out first are the B-grade ladies.

After 20 or so ladies, there's a short intermission with a sort of "sexy dance" performed by what happened to be the lady that i picked for the day. After that short intermission, it's followed by the A-grade ladies.

Ok once everything is done, there's a prize giving show to the attending guests where all the chicks all come out on the stage and there's 5-6 standing in a row in front, each of them holding a balloon with a paper stating the prize inside.

Then there's the typical ballot and the host picking numbers. (When you enter, the captain will give you a piece of paper with the number and a stalk of rose. The rose is for her to give to the chick of your choice, and she will put it on her name tag, to say that "she's been picked".)

Anyhoo, the prizes for last night was.. a couple packs of cigs, a few bottles of wine, sour milk/yogurt (what i got, hahaha), and free exclusive room which would've costed 888rmb or something. Maybe i heard wrong, but i'm sure it's a free exclusive room. I heard that sometimes they even give free ladies to pick from or something.

Oh... how you pick the balloons is a pretty interesting thing. LOL.

You pick the girl. She will give the balloon to the host. And then you're supposed to carry her to the front of the stage. The next person must use a new way to carry her. So the later guys have to be creative. LOL. The next interesting thing is how you're supposed to break the balloons. You're supposed to put em between the two of you and PUSH really hard to break the balloon. And trust me, you have to push REALLY hard, cause it's one heck of a tough balloon.

The normal rooms if i'm not mistaken, cost 88 rmb, and they're really pretty decent. If i'm wrong, it costs 138rmb. Dont remember that well, but i think it's 88rmb. The exclusive room is 198 rmb or something.

But they're having a promotion if you buy 10 tix for the 198 room, you'll pay only 1380rmb for the whole thing and you become a VIP automatically. No time limit to use the tickets.

The benefit of being a VIP? You can come ANYTIME of the day and request the catwalk from all the available ladies from the stage. =) Plus, you'll be the only one there at the time too. I'm going back there tonight to pick a chick i saw last night which resembles brooke burke a lot!!!

The name of the hotel is Jun Lin Hotel. In terms of performance i'd have to say this is the closest thing to cp in dg that i've experienced, before cp went downhill.

The only other hotel sauna i know of in dg that does the catwalk is KaiXuanMen Hotel, but i've never been there personally.

In Nancheng, in the Xiping area, there's a foot massage place at the Jiu Tian Dasha (9 Day Building). The foot massage place there offers FS. The place offers body massage too, and IIRC, the attendant told me it was 198RMB and comes with HJ. Think he said 298RMB for FS. The foot massage girls there wear skirts and high heels. She'll do FS in the foot massage room for 200RMB tip. Foot massage is a bit on the pricey side at 40RMB an hour.

What is the location of this place you recommend? Near any of the major landmarks in Dongcheng like Carrefour?

It's (Badiya) not close to any landmark, but it's at Bayi Lu (8-1 road), near the end where it's changed to HongTu Lu (or was it HongFu?). You can see the HuiZhan Jiu Dian (Exhibition Hotel?) from that place, but it's not that near too.

The closest cheap/fuck hotel nearby is called "Wan Mei" (Beautifu/Perfect) Hotel, which is quite cheap and of pretty good standard, especially at it's prize. 68rmb for 3 hours in the afternoon.

Lets say you're on the DongGuan Da Dao from the direction of GuangShen Expressway, make a right turn where the sign says "Ba Yi Lu". And then not far from there, on the right side, there's a huge colourful neon sign which says BADIYA in pinyin. You cant miss it.

It's really close to Huo Lian Shu, Jing Hu Chun Tian, Dong Tai, etc.


Also, i'd like to ask you, where is the Xiping area? I've never heard of it. But i'll ask around where the 9 Tian Da Sha is. Which area is it at? Is it close to the nancheng bu xing jie?

I agree, South China Mall is a disaster. The world's largest shopping mall with 800,000 sq. M and they have like.... 6 stores and a hotel. Let me see if I can remember them... McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, B&Q, Spar, and an electronics shop.

Walter Hotel= 298 a night per room (quality is not that bad and their breakfast buffet is good)

New Century Hotel= 250-289 range, older rooms, but decent, location isn't that bad

Clipper Hotel= I forgot the pricing, but i lived there once. Hotel was nice, new and modern. Flat LCD TV and close to ALL the ACTION.

Penn Hotel= Yes it may seem far away, but honestly, it's a taxi ride away and the hotel rooms are about 278-298 depending on who you know, and stay at the new wing, it's got LCD Flat screen TV, comfortable bed and views of the park (depending on which room you stay in)

Look, CP has one of the most quantity of Hotel stars in total out of all other cities in China. Basically meaning that CP is ranking almost number 1 in the nation for the amount of hotels it has. And CP is a town, not even a large city like Shanghai or Beijing. So you can imagine that there's so much more selection of hotels to explore.

Now, yes $20 a day doesn't seem like much for someone on vacation. But when you sit down to think about it, it's rather silly to spend that kind of money for no reason. A hotel room is a hotel room, so long as it's quality is not worse than new century then i think it's worth it. If you just move from HH to Clipper hotel and save $20 a day and you stay for a 12 day vacation that's $240 dollars USD. that's like going to the BBS and popping 12 additional girls. I'm not out there to lecture people on their spending habits and all, you can spend all the money you want.

But i'm just breaking it down and letting people understand, that HH and Miraton are so expensive today is because people only want to stay at these two hotels, therefore there is so much demand that they can jack up the price to be where it is at today.

Mongers are always mongers, we care about the girls, not so much the hotel rooms. If you can save, why not save it, use that money saved from the hotel rooms to enjoy other things, like shopping with the girls, going to get a footie, eating out at nicer restaurants. . . . etc.

So you got it right on the money, saving on hotel rooms is worth it int he long run. Besides the Penn is closer to ALL the ACTION than Miraton or HH. just my two cents.

Okay, so maybe some of you can chime in. I know I went with Santa over to the hotel next to Swan lake and the rooms were refurbished and pretty nice. can't remember the rates, but it was close to the ones above 290-300 or so...

I personally always stay at Hui Hwa.. but am rethinking whether it's worth it.. I mean essentially pay about 440-490 depending on weekday/weekend rates... I like the location, convenience, gym, pool, and the KTV at the hotel, BUT I want your opinions on which is really worth staying at.

When I started I stayed at Hui Mei BEFORE HH was built, and that was fine too in terms of accomodations.. nothing too fancy, but just as good as your average Marriot room...

So with that being said.. I know price is a factor.. what's the best value out there.. and for those on vacation, does that really matter? I mean the difference of $20 per day for us on vacation doesn't make that much of a difference.. with HH and its amenities, really nice rooms, now they have FLAT SCREENS in their VIP rooms (floors 28-30)... I like their DVD players too.. Point is, I don't mind spending the extra cash on vacation..

but perhaps I can get something JUST as good for less... Anybody seen the serviced apartments above Royal KTV / Manhattan I think it's called.. any thoughts on it? Are they by lease only??

Thanks for you take... that's why I was asking... since I never go explore other hotels, since i'm not adventureous enough to risk my luxuries to "try out" another hotel, then i never change... Like teaching an old dog new tricks..

But Clipper does sound like a good find.. when you say "close to the action" which action is that? For me, HH seems close to the action I have my favorite DVD store across the street, a laundry service (super cheap) that delivers... got great hole in the wall restaurants, and am a walk away from a bunch of footies, an elevator ride down to one of the 3 best KTV's in town, and a chinese restaurant with private rooms that kicks butt.

But hey, I'm willing to try things out.. problem is when I travel, I usually bring friends and I want to ensure they have the best possible time..

Rip off or not, you're right, it's still money, but sometimes you spend more to get exactly what you want...

If the other hotels compare to HH in terms of quality for a cheaper price, I'm down to try it... which of the ones you recommended do you think rival the quality of HH?

For standard room. I don't see much difference between the executive rooms and the standard rooms except the computer and the flat TV. Furnishings are exactly the same. I have a laptop and I don't watch much TV, so those "features" are not really a draw for me. The regular rooms all have DVD players too. BTW, if you get a room on the end, it comes with a balcony. Also found out they stopped charging the 15% service fee, so if you have a VIP card, you should pay under 300 per night.

Amex doesn't charge foreign transaction fees. They do however charge 1% for foreign currency exchange. For example, if it's 7 yuan per dollar, they will only give you 6.93 yuan. Most Visa and MC charge 2% for foreign currency exchange.

There are also some banks that don't charge ATM fees. The only one I know offhand is Commerce Bank. They also don't charge for foreign currency conversion so the exchange rate you get is market buy rate.

I don't know how much you pay at HH, but we pay 328 less 10%, which put it within 10-20 yuan of the places you mention. I don't think you can call 10-20 yuan a "rip off." I'd be willing to pay the 10-20 extra just for the convenience factor of it being near a lot of places I frequent.

If you are in CP, there is a naked KTV in CP, may not need to make the trip to CA or Shilong. Actually all the towns have them, but somehow, I think they all tend to look better with their cloths on.

Yeah, and ChangAn is dangerous. A lot more criminal elements there. For example, a lot more pirate taxis because apparently the police doesn't have enough of a presence to control them.

ChangAn is much more of an industrial area too. A lot less catered to tourists, especially those that don't speak Mandarin. Not like CP where everything is right in front of you and close together. Better stick with CP...

Last time I stayed there was about 3 weeks ago. I had some friends who were there 2 weeks ago and paid the same. You apply for the VIP card by filling out a form.

EDIT: I was reminded that getting the VIP card is not as simple as filling out a form. Seems there are some qualifications. Apparently you have to have stayed there like 60 days in the past year or something.

Went CA-CP and offered 100 and 120. Took the 100 route and told him to drive thru scenic areas - and got to see nice places in Dongguan (surpirsingly!!) including the suppossedly rich men enclave, lakes, rivers where locals go fishing etc. NICE drive!

Talking about transport - I've figured that I do need to try to limit my expenditure on this "unnecessary luxury" - can spend more on the Ladies! For one I think we all should think first before firming our itinerary to exclude any unneccesary trips and concentrate on 1 max 2 destinations.

This past long week-end I went from HKG to Ca, Cp, Longgang, Shatujiao - HKG. HKG part is of course unavoidable - but Huanggang - CA (RMB 180 ), CA-CP (RMB100), CP - Longang (RMB 180), LGG - STJ (RMB 120) = totals RMB 580 - and that BEFORE the Local RMB10-15 ride arounds! I just got back from a 10 day trip to CP. Had a great time. Some notes that I wanted to post. I learned from friends that the hotel rack rate is negotiable. Sometimes up to 50% off. But you need to get it in writing in an email before you go. Do your prep work.

Cheapest way to get from shenzhen airport to CP that I could find was by taking an airport shuttle bus. 20 rmb. From the sz airport to sz lowu train station. Walk to the sz bus terminal which is about 50 feet away. Find the express bus from sz lowu train station to the new century hotel in CP. Cost is 36 rmb one way. You could also take the train from sz train station to dongguan train station. I think it is 45 rmb. 30 minutes. But it will cost you another 15 rmb to take bread taxi from the dongguan train station to the hotel strip. But some hotels have free shuttle. Ask when you make online reservation.

What you want to do next time is have the cab driver drop you off at the entrance to the Guangshen Express. From Luohu it should be around 50RMB and less the further west and closer to the GSE you are. Once there, you negotiate with the various legit/pirate cabs that hang around there. I typically pay around 100-120 to get to DGC and less if going to Humen or Houjie. I've never tried it to CA, but if you find one going that way, I get the feeling you shouldn't pay more than 60-70.

To go to Shenzhen from Dongguan, the cheapest cab ride is to find a Shenzhen cab. I only know of 2 places where they congregate, but I get the feeling there might be others. One is in Humen on the west side, you can usually get back to Shenzhen for 80-100 depending on you negotiating ability. Even less if you're willing to share the cab. The other place they congregate is is Huangjiang. Same deal, around 80-100 to get back to Shenzhen.

Went CA-CP and offered 100 and 120. Took the 100 route and told him to drive thru scenic areas - and got to see nice places in Dongguan (surpirsingly!!) including the suppossedly rich men enclave, lakes, rivers where locals go fishing etc. NICE drive!

Talking about transport - I've figured that I do need to try to limit my expenditure on this "unnecessary luxury" - can spend more on the Ladies! For one I think we all should think first before firming our itinerary to exclude any unneccesary trips and concentrate on 1 max 2 destinations.

This past long week-end I went from HKG to Ca, Cp, Longgang, Shatujiao - HKG. HKG part is of course unavoidable - but Huanggang - CA (RMB 180 ), CA-CP (RMB100), CP - Longang (RMB 180), LGG - STJ (RMB 120) = totals RMB 580 - and that BEFORE the Local RMB10-15 ride arounds! Ridiculous, especially when the CA KTV gal only cost RMB 550, The CP gals RMB 230 and RMB 170, the STJ KTV GF $500! (errrrr..... yes.... BSD tips allllll inclusive!!)

I do think they just stumble on to it. Just like here, I think that most girls are "introduced" to this career by someone else be it friend, relative, co-worker etc. It just depends on who introduced them as to which one they will start at. Once your are in there, then I think they might move around a bit depending on where they make more money. Last trip I was talking with a girl from KTV and she was telling me that the girls who don't make money will just move on. Some girls go to different KTV and some just quit altogether. I've always thought that sauna girls are at the top of the food chain but if you can't handle the work load or don't make enough to justify working there, then you will leave. A BBS girl might want to work at KTV but if she never gets picked she'll have to go back to BBS. Its like playing hold them. You might make money playing 6-12 but if you move up to 10-20 and start losing, you'll be forced to move back down to 6-12. Its not really your choice because you can't make enough money to play at the higher table.

First tried to go into the sauna at Lucky hotel which I did not find (reception did not seem to know anything), then tried the BBS around Lucky hotel. Thanks for your directions, I finally found a sauna place in Hui Hua hotel. Not cheap, total damage was 658, but it was worth every yuan. The line up was not much (3 at a time, in total about 18 at 5 pm), I finally settled for a more expensive one (113) from Hubei. Extremly pretty and absolute superb service.

This has definately made up for the frustration with the BBS, in total between Shenzhen and CP tried 6 and only 1 was good, all the others a complete disaster, I might as well burn the money, but hey you get what you pay for (150.200)

I can confirm that the BBS scene is running again (I read that it was shut down a couple of months ago), Behind Lucky, HuiMei and Yalan, quality usually not so good and service terrible on average, at least if you speak no Chinese. And by the way the pussywagons are touring again as well.

I also checked out one of the KTV's although alone and not speaking Chinese its though and not so funny, the girls however were very very pretty.

In summary if you speak no Chinese and are alone then to me it seems the sauna's are the only viable option. If you are a couple of guys, the KTV's are an (expensive) option but with the best looking girls. In any case avoid the BBS, they seem cheap but in the end it costs you more!

There are lots of saunas in CP. You have found HuiHua sauna already. There are saunas inside Virgin hotel, HuiMei, Miraton, New Century, Walter, Peninsula, SwanLake. Those are the major ones. There are smaller ones in FuLong, FuHao, ShangYuan, MeiHao etc.

If you want the best service, hard core sex, then yeah sauna is your best option. Btw, if you call ahead, they will give you a small discount (30-60 rmb, depending on the place) and treat you better. Reason is that the managers have a monthly booking quota.

BBS, you gotta know how to handle the girls. Speak the language and/or have the experience.

The biggest advantage with KTV girls is that they are lower mileage. On average they will only do 1 guy per day max. With KTVs you can always sit in the main bar area. Tell the manager you are not interested in singing, you just want to look at girls. In JiaYi/TaoYuan you must buy the girl a girlie drik (48 rmb). Most other places have a minimum consumption of 100 rmb.

These prices are correct for flood situations (Bill and hotel guy negotiated). From the Lucky to the train station I was quoted 20 more on a van (Santa negotiated it). Unfortunately, we had to turn back to the hotel as the roads were flooded. I got into another cab who quoted 100! Fine, was pretty frustrated by then. Anyway, he got me there and said it was now 500 because he had to go through 3 flooded areas!!! No sense in discussing ethics and common decency here. Anyway, talked him down to 200.

Probably should avoid CP in the meantime unless you like swimming in sewage. Had to throw away suit pants, socks, shoes (basically anything that touched the water). This trip was one for the books for sure!


Cost 30rmb to bike over to the Lucky (higher grounds) from the Miraton. 300rmb to the train station on a bike.

The Wellton Hotel in Qiaotou (last I knew) has the KTV director of the Crown Prince working for them. He is an English guy that speaks Putonghua. David.

I will tell ya, that for living in CP for the last 11 months, this ain't the first flood that has hit (sic my small photos of the one when you were in the USA).

Flooding in CP is due to [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) poor drainage. I noticed a place near the Hui Mei, where they had built 2 cement walls on both sides of the road due to contstruction projects. I wonder where the hell they expected the water to go? Same with the area around the McDonalds and Miraton, all that road work, has basically created a moat around the McDonalds and after it fills, it creates overland flooding. I don't think construction workers here in China are the sharpest tools in the shed.

Also, during inclimate weather and holidays, they always try to jack up the prices for transportation, even the yellow taxi's try to get in on this. If you are with a Chinese person (does not include you, you don't look local), they have seen you numerous times (which is my case), or your Chinese is good enough to really raise hell with them, then they will back down.

If you come to CP via train, do not rush to the taxi stand directly in front of the exit (these guys are in some form of union), rather walk around to the main station and up to the road. Here is where you will find the freelancers for 10-15 rmb.

Otherwise, tell the drivers to take the backway to the Yalan area and not across the low-lying area where the canal is. I guess for BSD's or those with drug induced hard-on's, paying that much for a taxi is small change for some gap goodie.

For someone who visits CP as much as you do, you should get an apartment. The area I observed was the intersection by the Miraton and McDonalds. It had rained very hard, but there was no where for the water to go, so it caused flooding in the area I mentioned. I did post shitty little photos via my phone and they were all taken at this intersection. Another area that floods bad is before the bridge that passes over the railroad tracks and around the canal area towards the Yalan.

I hate to break my string, but Joe, RTFF for my little photos.

Anyway, please utilize the drivers I posted, both of them are good guys and won't cheat ya.

It seems like you were trying to get out of Dodge ( CP ) by taking the train. You could have tried taking the bus at New Century Hotel. The cost is ~36RMB. It goes from CP to Lo Wu, Shenzhen. I am not exactly sure but I think it also goes to Guangzhou. From Miraton to New Century, it’s about 5 minute walk, very nearby.

Two years ago the rain wasn’t that bad because I was in Southern China at the time, yet I remember part of Shekou, Shenzhen was flood. The shops were under 20 feet of water and most owners lost everything due to water damage. Afterwards when things dry out, I went shopping for goods at shops that were flooded.

About 3 years ago was bad in Southern China. I remember trains from Guangzhou to Shenzhen were canceled for a few days. There was a picture of a stalled train in the middle of water on a webpage.

A few typhoons hit or miss China every year nothing new. It takes about 2 -4 days of dry weather to clear everything up which is almost impossible during the rainy season.

Water gone temporarily, watch out for all the mold in the shops, restaurants and hotels... Probably a slight layer of crap on the roads still. The streets were wet one minute, then within an hour completely flooded. Quite frankly, it wasn't even raining that hard. Take care.
