Racist Pigs. Same as USA. Thats why I live in Haiti and I'm white as snow.Not sure if they are racist. I have been in a good number of dominican homes. Skin color varies in the same family. One daughter can be light skin and the other daughter is black. I would guess most Dominicans have people in their family who are black, I would think it would be difficult to be racist when members of your family are black. With tourism down, I doubt the authorities in Sosua want to be pissing off tourists. There might be more to the story. Some Dominicans don't like Haitians, other Dominicans have great things to say about Haitians. I doubt many Haitian males hang out in Classicos, so if the cops are looking for Haitian males I doubt they would go to Classicos to find them.
i have been in the sosua police station very early in the morning and saw when they released all the guys and girls they picked up the prior night. i was detained in the sosua police station after some crazy light skin santiago chica tried to stab me as she was trying to steal a cell phone from my room. i am as white as white bread.
i have been pulled over and been told to stop my car numerous times by the dominican police. part of life in the dominican republic, the police can pull you over for nothing. i am nice to them, i chat with them for a few minutes and they let me go. if you want to be nice, you can offer to buy them a beer. the united states embassy has a 24 hour phone number in the dominican republic. i have the phone numbers for the us embassy in santo domingo and its american citizens unit, stored in my dominican cell phone just in case. when i am driving, i usually carry my passport.thats racism too. if you are cruising gomez any time after 1am they will haul yo ass over just for being a gringo. i paid for my rentacar to have dark shades just cause of that. i swear, no lie, 3 out of 4 times i croused off the malecon strip in sd i was pulled over. twice for supposed speeding, once for supposedly running a red. ina when they said i rad the red, i made sure i stopped before the line and did not run the light casaue i saw them on the corner. then each time they pulled me out of the car, asked for registration and said i had big problems, that we needed to go to ther palacio. the forst time i told them i would pay whatever fine was needed right there cause i didn't have my registration. they took 5 mil. the other times they said theat i owed a fine and that if i paid at the palacio it would be alot more. i laughed in heir face and said i wanted to go to the palacio now, cause i had a high powered attorney that had questions for them. these were 3 sets of different cops btw. they than said, oh, no no no, we just pulled you over to protect you and ask you if we can escort you to your hotel. my advice is to pay a free visit to a super high powered criminal attorney, and ask for some cards. then pass his card to an offending policeman with a smile. so if you have done nothing wrong, don't take no shit. if shit happens tho, the same amount of bucks will set you free; not the truth.

i now have shaded windows in my car but previously have been pulled ovr numerous times in sdq. been accused of running reds, crossing white lines and being gringo. i just politely deny it, argue with them and finally say let's just go to your stations so i can pay my fine. usually they will state that they just want to help you and you can just pay them there. i always insist on going to the station and it always ends with vaya con dios. and the only time i've ever been asked for my passport was when i ran a red on independencia hit a motorcycle cop (also running the red) with my sideview mirror trying to get to a hotel in time to to see the superbowl with jaososua. argued my way out of that one too!
Sosua is safe, just don't bring anything of great value. Laptop, digital camera, mp3 player are the major expensive items that guys bring and you can lock them in the safe or put a cable lock on your laptop, if it is too big for the safe. Put a password on your laptop in case it is stolen. I may buy a ten inch netbook laptop, they are small enough to fit in most safes and they seem much easier to use on a plane.
I have been out all night in Sosua, Boca Chica and Santo Domingo, and never really had any problems. Don't get drop dead drunk. Try to stay away from the tigres (the tiger chicas) overly aggressive chicas. If your room has a safe lock your valuables in the safe, especially when you have a chica in the room. If the room has no safe, hide your valuables.
I have been out alone and driven to many parts of the island alone. Keep a low profile, you will have fun.

If you aren't staying at a chica friendly hotel, the cabanas are about 2 miles past the gas station, going West down Malecon. Fast drive. Do not go down Avenida GOmez after midnight uless ou ferl the need to be hassled. Most street girls are true street girls and just want the quick fuck. Some are great. Like playing wheel of fortune. Can often not tell a great one from a looser by street chat alone. On the other hand, girls in sosua play for keeps and want you as their boyfriend as long as possible. Back from SD, It was an overall good expirienced. I did a little bit of sightseing, not much though. I went to a few casas; three on pasteur and independencia. The girl house had consistently better loking girls, 2,500k for domenicans and 6k for the brazileras. 305 was also good. they have the most girls; Girls at this house were nicer and really friendly, price was 3,500. Also went to casa teresa and found a sexy big booty blonde. She was the only girl I wanted to see again. I went back to the casa but was not there that night. This is one of the reasons why I only come to this board for information. Thank your for posting this and I hope everyone will pass the word. I personally have never been inside the place. Mainly because I never found reason to.
The one thing about Sosua is that you can always find a group of gringos to hang with if you are personally not a scumbag. Out of the 5 times been to DR I have only traveled there once with someone. All other times have been solo. Everytime I've traveled alone I have always found a couple of individuals or groups to hang with when not even purposefully looking for them. I just end up having conversations with folks and we end up exhanging cell phone numbers. If you are a person of good character then you should have no problems meeting up with other mongers who could possibly have your back if shit hits the fan.
One other thing that helps: I do not purposefully try to fuck my wingmen's chicas. If we happened to have done the same chica before then we joke about it and compare notes. But I don't just out and ask him for her phone number and such. Guys will boast about not caring because she is "everyone's girl" but men are proud and like to believe they are the only one she is banging, so you may inadvertly stir up resentment if you try this. I have traveled to many places in Dominican Republic. Sosua was the only place in Dom Rep where I almost got into fights.
Supposedly Columbus settled on the North Coast first, supposedly he could not establish a safe colony on the north coast because of violence and moved to the south coast.
Santo Domingo has a reputation as a dangerous city, but I have never felt unsafe in Santo Domingo and never have I been close to getting into a fight in Santo Domingo.
I don't want to be seen as a Sosua basher. To me it seems most of the bad news is coming from Sosua on the North Coast. Murders of foreigners, north coast. Drivers of rental cars getting thrown in jail after an accident, north coast. Pornographers getting busted, North Coast. Dominicans working with police, trying to plant drugs on foreigners, North Coast.
Guys have to be careful in Sosua. Appears to me that some unsavory Dominicans and foreigners are drawn to Sosua.

Me personally I wouldve order a hit on his ass cus that fucked up what he did. The main big problem with Sosua is that things can go from good to bad and I mean VERY BAD in a matter of seconds.
A broad that I kicked out my villa I found out days later that she was trying to find someone to beat my ass. No one she found would fight me though cus I was 2 feet taller and bigger then every one in DR and I made friends with a Sosua regular that knew people and if shit goes down he'll have his people waiting outside of the bar with guns.
Don't want to ruin anyones expectations of Sosua cus I love this place but it definitely remind me of the wild wild west where anyhing can happen. And I mean anything!

Before I could open the menu good their drinks had arrived. 40 euro each. The cheapest thing in the menu was water at 35 euro.
Another friend was in Cancun and got stuck with the chica drinks the same way. He said it looked like a pitcher of Kool-Aid. He had to come off US$100 for it. He said he didn't have the money. The bouncer kindly walked him to the closest ATM.

Cardinal rule, ladies drinks are always astronomical. Everytime you get into premium brands in DR the price skyrockets. 1800 is high but not astronomical. That $50 for three shots...I've lived in Sosua (lived there nonstop except for 1 week every six) for a year. Been to the strip or Cabarete every other night. I know the prices well. No tequilla costs more than 300 pesos a shot. I've ordered there before. A whole bottle of brugal (pequeno) is only 150 pesos. It was a pure scam only because I was basically alone. But even if the bartender said "200 pesos for a tequila" the bar would possibly DEMAND a 1000 peso tip like they did for the Canadian.

You really should post your story on every Dominican Republic tourism website including dr1, and Debbies Dominican Travel with the pictures so Club X never sees another tourist Dollar again.
Nobody should have to experience that barbaric bullshit on vacation.

We(men) will go in there to get what we want. Esp if we are vacationing for a few days. Its either wait outside for hours for a particular chick you may see go in there or go in there and get her. That bar used to be owned by Juan Luis Guerra (famous Dominican singer and uncle of Amelia Vega, former Miss Universe). Bar Atarazana 9 is now owned by a short white guy who is a player with the chicas in Santo Domingo and not overly friendly with any male customers who may come into his bar. One night I was in Bar Atarazana for about an hour drinking beer. I eventually asked for la cuenta (the bill). I looked at the bill and they were trying to charge me for 13 presidentes. I told the waiter that the bill was incorrect, that I had only drank 6 presidentes. The waiter corrected the bill.
In your particular case, maybe you should have asked why the bill was 1800 pesos. Get clarification as to what they were charging you for (maybe the chica you were with was in on a scam, why would she order two tequila shots for you and only one shot for her, you said you were already staggering and it was about 4am, was she trying to get you more drunk for a reason?). If the bartender responded that each shot of tequila was 600 pesos, you could ask why so high. I don't know what the price is for a very good tequila in DR.
Some cognacs are very expensive, I have seen some cognacs go for $500 per glass in a normal bar. Some better whiskeys start at $80 US per glass and go up in price. Wine prices can go through the roof.
My advice, be overly polite, tell them espera (wait), yo no pienso esta tequila es muy caro (I didn't know the tequila was so expensive). Pay the bill, then go into the street and talk to a politur or a policia nacional if you can find one, and return to the bar with the policia nacional or the politur. It probably would not change anything. 1800 pesos is about $50 US, I would rather lose $50 than suffer damage to my eye.

I had one experience in Bar Atarazana 9 in Zona Colonial in Santo Domingo. That bar used to be owned by Juan Luis Guerra (famous Dominican singer and uncle of Amelia Vega, former Miss Universe). Bar Atarazana 9 is now owned by a short white guy who is a player with the chicas in Santo Domingo and not overly friendly with any male customers who may come into his bar. One night I was in Bar Atarazana for about an hour drinking beer. I eventually asked for la cuenta (the bill). I looked at the bill and they were trying to charge me for 13 presidentes. I told the waiter that the bill was incorrect, that I had only drank 6 presidentes. The waiter corrected the bill.
In your particular case, maybe you should have asked why the bill was 1800 pesos. Get clarification as to what they were charging you for (maybe the chica you were with was in on a scam, why would she order two tequila shots for you and only one shot for her, you said you were already staggering and it was about 4am, was she trying to get you more drunk for a reason?). If the bartender responded that each shot of tequila was 600 pesos, you could ask why so high. I don't know what the price is for a very good tequila in DR.
Some cognacs are very expensive, I have seen some cognacs go for $500 per glass in a normal bar. Some better whiskeys start at $80 US per glass and go up in price. Wine prices can go through the roof.
My advice, be overly polite, tell them espera (wait), yo no pienso esta tequila es muy caro (I didn't know the tequila was so expensive). Pay the bill, then go into the street and talk to a politur or a policia nacional if you can find one, and return to the bar with the policia nacional or the politur. It probably would not change anything. 1800 pesos is about $50 US, I would rather lose $50 than suffer damage to my eye.That was more or less an appropriat post. Bravo. I agree I should have asked why so high instead of sayong I wouldn't pay. Neverthless that does not justify what happened. It may have avoided it though and I will very lightly in any interaction with anyone in Sosua, without being a sucker. But next time I'm in Sosua, my dominican and Haitian wingmen and I will be well prepared at all times to kick fucking ass if need be.

Sometimes when I talk to her they have no electricity, and then it comes back on later in the day or at night. I ask her if her food is still good because of this and she always says yes. From my experience with hurricanes we were always taught to leave the fridge closed for as much as possible when the power goes out to keep the food from spoiling. Maybe they are applying this principle.
Also it has been raining a lot in Puerto Plata, and she sometimes complains about mesquitoes.
Is there anything they can do as far as immunizations? Not sure if there even is such for Dengue (I know there is for typhoid).I would get a Hepatitis A and B vaccinations, use mosquito spray, buy a mosquito net to sleep under in a camping store before you go. Haitians like to sleep completely under the covers; I feel suffocated doing that. One mosquito can ruin a good nite's sleep and Dengue is not impossible. Gringos have come down with malaria in the DR although uncommon. Spray your room with fying insect killer on arrival. relatively non toxic and lasts or several weeks. keep screen windows shut.

1. New Garden, Tierra Linda, Casa Valeria, Orquidea, or where else? I know these and some others are on Calle Dr. Rosen, and I believe they're between the beach and Pedro Clisante. Good pool, good beach access, good chica access, a decent restaurant on or near premises - all valued by me.
2. I hear about New Garden chicas - are they "on the staff" like Blackbeard's, or freelancers who are welcome for the "monger-friendly" atmosphere?

I never tell people to RTFF as a rule. Especially when things change so quickly. Ayyyypapi is just an old belligerent drunk that got what he deserved. Club X is ok!
The best thing to do is explore. Half the fun is the adventure. Only thing to beware of are SOME of the so called xpat experts. They will lead you a stray to keep you off their little piece of the rock as many of us have found. Take what they and I say in that context. I know people say its bad to do; however, find you an english speaking local or experienced monger on holiday (not living there) treat him with respect and well as you would one of ya broke azz boys and be out! I leave this Wed. for the DR and will be at BB's but will also spend some time in Sosua and I want to thank everyone for all of the information that has been posted. I will post any information or observations I feel are of interest when I return.
This is one of my favorite threads however this week I have been surprized at how far off topic this thread has gone. The negative tone and comments have for the most part gotten in the way of any real intel being provided. No finger pointing but ...... enough is enough.

Rest of the time drinking coffee, beer, playing dominoes and cards. Kids are fascinated my simple cards tricks, and "miising finger" tricks and won't leave you alone. They vie for your attention, and the little ones who get pushed out of the games go off and cry. The first time I arrived at my novias house in Mendoza (ok she was my true novia becasue she was my first DR chica and we hung together nearly nonstop while aI was in DR for nearly a year), I sat outside on the street with the family and extended family, drinking presidente and jsut waiting for the neighbors to fle by and shoot the shit. The kids were the special part for everyone, playing with rubber tires pushing them with a stick, a game without end and of seemingly limitless joy. The only thing better was posing for pictures; thay couldn't get enough.
I thought how much this differed form the USA where kids rarely hung out in the street with families running from one house to the next; like a continuous block party from sunrise till sunset.
At sunset however everything changes. The locks would go on te doors and nobody ventured into the street except the tigres, and only groups of people would go to the Colmado to dance and come back. I would go to the colmado and hang with my novia; we would dance; nobody looked at us funny even thought I was the only gringo there all night; about 100 people.
However sometimes it was apparent that what was on the surface was not the whole picture. If a taxi came asked us to go with him after the colmado, my novia would sometimes get very nervous and try to shake him politely. Later she would say that he felt he wanted to take us somewhere and rob me. So I never ventured solo into the streets of Mendoza ater dark.
In Villa Mela, where a chica I know lives, it is equally dangerous; across from the supermarket there is a bank with an ATM. The security guard says that every day several people get killed by a motorcyclists rapidly zooming up to the persons ewho took out money, shoot them, rob them and leave. I thought that was a lie but he seemed serious. No grin. My taxi driver (trusted) said it was true.
Aside from the danger that lurks, I never got a funny look walking and in hand with chicas. They would walk with me to visit their friends, who always seemed happy despite the poverty. Maybe that's becasue nobody seemed lonely and friendship was the bond.
In the USA if you live in an apartment or even in a house, the rule is to avoid the neighbor. No kids running house to house or apartment to apartment. I think the social interaction pervading the Dominican and Haitian society from a very young age in the DR helps guard against the depression and psychosis we see so much of in the USA e. G. You are presenting an opinion on DR women that may be rather sweeping, but not overly aggressive IMHO and could be open for discussion.
Personally, I have a belief that not all the women in the DR are puta's. I don't think you said that expressly, but that is something I gleaned from your post. I see women there, especially those in the lower economic stratus, as being in a tough spot. Good jobs are hard to come by in the DR. Poor decisions early in life resulting in children and no father in sight can make for a desperate situation. Although there is a stigma attached for being a working girl in the DR, unlike many other countries in the world, it is legal here.
Do I fault them for this. No. In fact that is one of the things that draws me to them. Simply by being able to travel to their country, and having the disposable income to spend as much in a day there (hotel, food, drinks, chica's) as many wage earners garner in a month, makes me look like Brad Pitt to these women. If something occur then you have a method to move away the area fast.There is such a large number of discos and they are all packed on Saturday. The Last night I hung out with a group of dominicans at a birthday party for 5 hours on the sidewalk; not a single problem excpt for alot of Haitian kids begging. But I would imagine that the shit can hit the fan big time if a shooting occurs. As a matter of perspective, there are many discos larger tha Classicos in sosua. And in Sosua, there is a fight in or around Calassicos every other night. Thats the bigger fights where a crowd gathers; not the smaller incidents where a few putas are thrown in jail. If you travel with a taxi driver he will be more than glad to hang with you and have a few beers. I would stay near the exits.

I think you should spend a day or two there and come up with your own assessment, as there are some things that might or might not bother you. I stayed at the Riazor and I did not like it, just my opinion that for that price I should at least get wi-fi in the room.
I did spend one night at the jaguar back in July and there is construction going on as was mentioned. For that reason, they kept my room key at the front desk just in case the construction people needed it. I do not know why they would need to enter my room and I did not ask. Maybe they had lost the room key and could only use the master key. I had to call the guy in the lobby to lock my door whenever I left, and have him unlock it whenever I returned. Upon checking in they did not tell me this, so I ended up staying in my room for over one hour waiting for someone to bring my key, only to find out later they would keep it the whole time.
The wireless internet did not work. Luckly the owner was there and he brought me a lan cable for the wall plug. He seemed very helpful and corteous. I did not bring any women into the jaguar that night, so I cannot explain if they are relaxed about that kind of stuff. The owner's family was there thru the day, so I cannot imagine what would happen if I decided to make it obvious I was banging pros.The owner has no problem with mongers and I sat there with a friend chicking out chicas on the chat rooms with his big screen linked to his computer. The internet there was flaky and I did need to leave for that reason only. No problems at all bringing in chicas day or night.

I should have posted the photo of this taxi driver before. Every time I had this taxi driver drive me someplace in Santo Domingo, he tried to overcharge me. A Santo Domingo newbie who I showed around in SDQ, told me recently that this taxi driver gave him a hard time, after he had taken a chica from a casa.
As such, beware of this taxi driver, he speaks English, he is in front of Coppa discoteca every night and his name is Luis.
I know Manizales dislikes a few taxi drivers in Dom Rep.
