The views from Marco P are excellent. It's very high quality, but a bit expensive. I would recommend staying there if you are courting a gal. X.

Red Kilt gave you some parameters to look at, and I gave you a summary. What exactly are you looking for? If you want occupancy rates, you should call the hotel yourself. Surely you've looked at their website. Why don't you tell us what you found out and then see if someone has some suggestions about better prices or better options.

X.

We are a group of freinds, first timers to the Philippines. Hoping to come to Cebu later this year or early next. Most of my questions have been answered reading up on the Forum but we got a bit of a better deal at the Marco Polo than the Marriot; the Radison was even a bit more. Prices for the Marriot were about $140 and Radison $150; Marco Polo was $100.

So what I'd like to know is if anyone stayed at the Marco Polo and if it is in a good location and if there were any bad experiences there. I didn't see any comments about it, either good or bad.

Also, if anyone can suggest a way to get a better deal, that would be great.

Those prices seem a bit high, almost 50% more than I was seeing last year.

Deal directly with the hotel or use Agoda or Asiarooms on the internet. You can do better than that.

Waterfront Lahug has very good deals from time to time and I just ask them for the same deal as I had last time and as long as they are not full with a convention or conference they always say "Yes".

It is a better 5 star hotel than any of the 3 you mentioned and in a much better position and close to Ayala Mall. Marriott is also adjacent to Ayala Mall. Radisson is close to SM Mall but you have to ride a fair distance to get to any bars.

I stay at Waterfront for $90 (and sometimes less) for a double room with breakfast.

Marco Polo is a long taxi ride up the Lahug "hill". Good views but too far out of the action for me.

Marco Polo is a long taxi ride up the Lahug "hill". Good views but too far out of the action for me.I advanced booked (prepaid) the Marriott for 3520p / night. As pointed out many times, the Marriott is a solid 4*plus hotel with a good location and nice swimming pool. I booked direct with the company. If you decide on the Marriott join their membership program. The points add up fast and translate into free nights at any of their properties. The Radisson is probably a real nice hotel, but the rate I was quoted was more than 1500p above the Marriott, which is not worth it to me. In addition, the Radison's location is not quite as good as the Marriott's. You may see it differently. It is up to you.
Personally, I am not interested in staying in any hotel not close to the action, no matter how nice. There is only one reason I come to Cebu. So scratch the Marco Polo. As RK says "good views but too far [away]". I realize that I may get bored hanging around the Marriott or the malls all day until bar girl time. My alternative day plan is to take a couple of excursions to Lapu Lapu, have lunch at the nicer hotels like the Shangri-La's Mactan Resort or the Abaca Resort, then hang out on the beach or by one of their pools leaving plenty of time to get back to Maxilom Ave for prime time party time.

Cebu is a great town with a lot of very attractive and friendly girls. I am looking forward to my Feb trip.

I'm not sure this link will work, so if you google search for trip advisor, it should come up first. You can get a pretty good idea by clicking on the hotel name and read the reviews.

Has anyone ever eaten at the Chateau de Busay? I can see from their web page that they also have some rooms. Has anyone stayed there, or inquired? How much?Nice fined X Man! Trying to picture where that place is as their website is vague. Looks like it is somewhere between Tops and Marco Polo. Good place to have a dinner party!

Good place to have a dinner party!I live near and some mornings I walk uphill 4km to Top Hills. It is located roughly 5km from Marco Polo or City Lights Condo's. I have not went their personally but I have many friends who have attending weddings or have ate their and there were no complaints. I love the mountains and this a very quiet place with spectacular views.

Also, if anyone can suggest a way to get a better deal, that would be great.Firstly, all of the properties in question were originally other hotels. So the rooms are not up to the standards of say the Marco Polo in other parts of the world. That being said, these hotels have done a good job living up to the standards of each chain.

Secondly, if you were going to do business or shop, I would pick Marriott or Rad Blu. But if you were in a relaxation mode, Marco Polo would be better choice as you can sit around their great pool area eating and drinking. A cab ride to Ayala or the circle from MP should be around 20 minutes in good traffic.

Many of these hotels have unadvertised promos especially on the weekends. It might be a good idea to stop in and ask about a business or auto club discount too. If you don't ask, you don't get!

Thanks for the extra info Andre007. I have a gal who has offered to "take me there" next visit. Is it on the same road as the MP and Tops?

I love the view from Tops, but never liked having a taxi driver waiting for me. I'm wondering if there is an alternative to that setup.

And regarding your walks, do you walk along the road, or are there trails? I also understand flowers are grown in that area. On my last visit I walked out of MP and had a few beers at a local place just across the road from the MP. I noticed a sign looking to hire GRO, so I was curious if I'm missing something up in the hills above Cebu.

I guess my questions are not "hotel" related, so sorry if I've inconvenienced anyone. X.

Any issues with getting the ladies into the hotel? Any tips?

I've picked up a rock bottom priced room at Marriott and going to get their executive room upgrade (because it's the only country where I can afford it!). Do you fo rsee any issues getting ladies to join me there?

Any comments on The Marco Polo Plaza? Or the Radison Blu?I stayed at the Marco polo hotel last month. It is the only 5 star hotel in Cebu. You've got everything there from luxury pool, gym, day spa and treatments, entertainment, restaurant and if you want to really indulge book the continental club floor where you have penthouse access, private dining and amazing views. I booked the presidential floor level 23, where the views of the hills and city is amazing.

The level of service and all the little details definitely makes it worth your while. They bring you a basket of fruit on arrival, VIP access to the penthouse free buffet breakfast, all day free drinks and snacks and free cocktails from 5:30pm. They also turn your bed down laying slippers and a towel on the floor with a basket of sweets each day of your stay.

Any issues with getting the ladies into the hotel? Any tips?I have personally answered this question at least twice and not that long ago. Please click "advanced search" button on upper right hand corner of the forum page. Then click "search single content type". In "search type" put "posts". In "keyword" write Marriott. Then in the "search in forums box" highlight "The Philippines". In "show results" put "reports". Click "search now".

This may be a bit more complicated than just writing a post and asking forum members. But it is the correct way to look for information on the forum. If you don't find what you are looking for by using the search function, (doubtful) , then you just post and ask.

When I answered the question, I also posted about the new back entrance from Ayala Mall which avoids the walk of shame.

It is quite a late report but I have to admit. I am lazy.

In September I was in Cebu and I stayed at Alpa Suites, is an excellent 3 stars, brand new and with very large room, breakfast isn't great but edible, very girl friendly I always had 2 girls with me and never had any issues or looks. Location wise is quite good although is in a very busy intersection and practically doesent have any driveway. 5 minutes taxi drive to Ayala.

If you like live music there is Cebu jazz Club just down the road and MO2 resto bar 5 minutes taxi ride.

Good value for the price, I booked trough expedia and it was about 48 dollars / night. However, next time I will go to a place with swimming pool.

'Hilltop' and 'Tops' are two seperate places.

Hilltop is located on the very top of the mountain overlooking Cebu City and Mactan. Tops is a restaurant located very near to Marco Polo.

There are also other places that both locals and visitors to Cebu get confused, including 'Mr. A',"Mountain View' and a few other smaller restaurants near Marco Polo.

The GRO tarpoline is most probably just a scrounged tarpoline used as a shade or wind break. I have not heard of any GRO activity in that area, just a few small bars used by the locals.

Andre007, Do you live in City Lights? PM me if you do as I have a few questions.

The other alternative is to take a motor or "Habal Habal from JY Square. I think it is roughly 50 pesos per person but I will have to check on that. Of course there prices will be higher. They can drop you or normally they will give you a cell number to contact them for pick-up. I would try to arrange with one of the motors or if you want to rough it then you can always find one in the general area or the main road which is a long step walk down.

Yes I actually walk up to Top Hills from my place which is 4km. It is beautiful. Yes it is known for the flowers and also those little peppers that are always available.

Well about the GRO sign I can't help you with that but anythings possible here. Also There is a Restaurant called Mr A's that is a 3 minute walk from my place or a 5 minute or less ride from MP that has a spectacular view and very reasonable prices.

I think this is hotel related but if not moderators can move why comments to the Cebu thread.

PM me if you need anything.

I have stayed there 6 nights in the last two weeks in two separate visits. I booked through their website, three nights for the price of two. I paid 4900P a night and had full access to the club level on the 20th floor. The hotel is very girl friendly and do not require any sign-in for the ladies.

1. Question.

Did somebody already visit Marriott and Radisson Blu? Can somebody make a comparison. I plan to visit cebu on my next trip in jan / feb and I probably will book Marriott or Radisson Blu. Some girl I am in contact with told me that Radisson would be the better choice."its newer". She said. And I also saw that there is also a mall near Radisson. A mall near by place would be great as I think its a good idea meet up with the girls there first.

2. Question.

I also plan to give the "new" Moevenpick Hotel a try. Do they did some renovations after the takeover from Hilton to Moevenpick or was some forum member already guest at Moevenpick since then?

I appreciate every helpful reply to my questions as I consider me as a "Cebu-Rookie". Also hope that I wll have the chance to meet up with some "Cebu-connoisseurs" when I'm there. If you guys want to know how I usually spend my vacations just check out my profile.

Yep, enjoyed my time at Marriott. First time I had been to a Philippines hotel. The arrival was unnerving with the security boom gate and security check before the taxi even got onto the premises. Then the baggage scanner and walk through scanner at the main door.

Once inside there is a sign saying that all people on the premises must be registered, including guests. This concerned me a little for my intentions to brig a lady back to the hotel.

The hotel has direct rear access to Ayala Terraces which leads onto the Ayala Mall.

The hotel rooms themselves are very nice. I had club level access where I was also able to take my guests without question for food.

On the evenings when I brought the lady back, I just told her to walk as if she belonged there. On both nights the two different ladies had no questions asked and were soon naked in the bed flicking through the 80TV channels.

There were other mongers on the premises. Often in the lounge and dining areas there is a middle aged white monger with attractively dressed 20 year Philippino girl.

Would I stay at Marriott again? Yes, it is safe, homely and very comfortable for the first time visitor.

Would I stay at Marriott again? No, now that I know the area and the taxi systems, I'd probably go for a lower cost option.

Taxi fares: Hotel to Mactan P210, Hotel to Mango P85.

1. Question.

Some girl I am in contact with told me that Radisson would be the better choice."its newer". She said. And I also saw that there is also a mall near Radisson.I doubt many of the local girls have much experience on the finer points of premium hotels. One of my girls didn't even new how to use the hotel lift or door keys.

A mall near by place would be great as I think its a good idea meet up with the girls there first.Good idea and defintely keep your hotel name private until you are taking the lady tot eh hotel. They all ask,"where you stay?" I gave them an alternate hotel just so that it didn't get too confusing.

I only visited Ayala Mall which has plenty of meeting places.

The Rad is newly opened, but the building was empty for many years. The story I heard was that the foundation wasn't built properly. If that is true, I wonder if it has been fixed. Or did someone make a payout to ignore the faulty foundation? Or, sadly the most likely scenario, is that the orginal owner didn't make the proper payouts so they shut him down with some trumped up bs about construction codes.

I know Baguio in Luzon had a killer earthquake, what about Cebu or Davao? I guess all these cities are on the so-called Ring of Fire, so who knows. X.

I can enlighten you on the Radisson and the Marriott. I vist both as I have many friends and acquaintances who wish to stay so I visit quite often.

The Marriott was remodeled a few years ago and it is a Solid 4 star if not 5 star. You will have no problems with girls but they will make them register after 10 or 11 I think and that is for your safety as well as theirs. They have a nice pool, service is excellent and location is a direct path to Ayala mall. A few feet and they actually added a second entrance near the pool so you won't have to do the walk of shame every time.

The Radisson is newer and maybe a bit more spacious lobby. The Pool at the Radisson is outstanding and you will not have problems with girls. I love the Radisson has a greeter at he elevators to tell you which way to turn. It may sound stupid but believe me it is helpful. The Radisson is a few feet walk to Sm mall which is out largest mall.

Actually you can't do wrong with either. If I was a first timer I would chose the Marriott because I think the Terraces at Ayala is first class.

There seem to be so many Rookies coming to Cebu. I guess the word is getting out that we are having fun and enjoying ourselves.

Just like others before you feel free to Pm me and if I can answer any questions I will. I have been here 5 years and I pretty much know the ends and outs.

Your thoughts on the Radisson-Blu are all spot-on. I posted about the problems one yr ago before they opened and most of it was pay-off related from what I heard.

I am currently staying at the Blu in an executive suite with views overlooking two sides of Cebu City. 83sq meters of space, two CR's and two flat screens and in the master CR there is a huge soaking tub next to the window. My girl is now filling the tub along with some bubble bath for some evening fun as I type this. This is the hands down the nicest room I have had the pleasure of staying at during my frequent and lenghty stays in Cebu. On the Radisson website it listed this suite for a rate of around 13500P without vat or 10% service charge, but I booked it under 5000P all in with vat and service charge around 5500P without redeeming points.

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for longer length stays. I think either 1 or one of my staff will be back in Cebu for three weeks. The company probably isn't going to spring for three weeks at Rad or Marriott. We are both still going to be to of towners and it probably isn't log enough to look at serviced apartments, if they exist. It would stilbe nice to have some more floor space and a separate living area without paying the big suite prices.

Our work will be at IT Park so still being close to that area is an advantage.

Any tips are appreciated.

My mind is loving the idea of an extended playtime in Cebu and of course a couple of weekends for extended exploring.

Rad Blu Cebu website is showing deluxe rooms for p3670+taxes.I noticed that too but the daily room rate of 3670p was posted on the Blu website for two days and then returned back to the regular 4800-5400p deluxe rate. It seems the lower rate is posted mostly for stays on Friday and Saturday nights when the business crowd leaves the hotel with a lower load factor.

Aussie JoAussie Jo I can make a few recommendations if you share what is your budget. Also FYI most places offer at least a 10% discount if you stay 1 month and some offer more.

http://alpacitysuites.com/pages/aboutus.phpNever stayed so I can't comment.

http://www.sarrosahotel.com/accommodation.htmlI stayed at Sarrosa last year and it is the worst shithole I have stayed at in Cebu IMHO. I booked the place online for 1800p, with vat and service charge slightly over 2000p per night all-in. When I arrived there is this HUGE sign outside (sign is still there) with promo rates 699p and 899p per night! I complained when I checked in about the promo but since I booked with an online discount website no refund or discount. I gave in and went to my room which was old and worn to say the least. I knew from looking at the tripadvisor reviews there was an older tower and a newer one. I went back to the front desk to ask the useless OJT staff to be transfered to the newer tower. No go, it was like talking to the wall.

I texted my new honey and went to meet her and I hoped that would change my outlook and make the best of it. We returned to my room and things were fine with the honey but the wall mounted AC was running like an old jeepny and only when I switched from the somewhat cold AC setting to just the AC fan could I fall asleep. I woke up an hour later very hot and sweaty. The front desk manager was able to transfer me to a room with better AC in the morning and I did tough out the remaining night of my booking but never again will I stay at the Sarosa.

I have put in place a new policy as a direct result of my Sarrosa experince whereby I only book a new hotel for one night. If I like it I can extend my stay.

http://www.haroldshotel.com/Harrold is a new hotel located on Gorordo Avenue above Escario. When Harolds opened they refused to list on discount hotel websites and were priced 4800p and up for a basic room and thats just a joke, sooo over priced IMO.

They have decided to reverse this and have opted to list online, but they are still too expensive. Base room is 2700p without breakfast and 3750p including breakfast, and that is without vat and service charge. When they get serious and realize the direct competition has room rates 2200-2600p including buffet breakfast then I will book and check it out.

I talked to Cebu Marriott reservations and they matched the price to Hotel Elizabeth. I think Marriott is more elegant and it is a better location. They are also very girl friendly as long as you are very kool.

Here are some suggestions for mid priced hotels. The last one is brand new and no more then a five minute cab ride to IT Park.

http://alpacitysuites.com/pages/aboutus.phpI stayed at Alpa and is a clean and decent hotel for the price, very GF.

However, next time I will choose something with a pool and more upscale. ALPA is really for people that are in business trips there. Especially during breakfast (which was not too good) I felt like I was attending a training or something.

I wonder how Movenpick is as is almost at the same price as Marriott and is a resort, I did took a banca boat just from across the street and it look to me like a nice property. However. Is 45min-1hr taxi drive to Cebu.

Marriott is much, much better than the Elizabeth.I've never stayed at the Ellizabeth but I've stayed at the Marriott several times. I agree that it's a nice hotel, but the bar area is far too small, and I thought the rooms were a bit on the small side as well, so that while the hotel was certainly nice, I don't think it was five star quality.

From reading the replies and also reading mch deeper into this thread I found some other options. One was a townhouse for about P25k per month.

As for budget, I want to get buy for about P4500 per day including food and lodging. The lower I get the room, the more play money I have.

I stayed in the Marriott recently which was good for my needs.

I'll add Hotel Elizabth, Alpha Suites, Diplomat and Parkland to my list.

When I know my dates I'll call Marriott on the phone and put a two week offer to them. See if they will negotiate.

Thanks for the ideas guys.happy mongering.

One was a townhouse for about P25k per month. The reference I found to the lower cost was Hotel Richmond. Doesn't rate too well on Tripadvisor. Com.

I like the idea of a condo, more spacious. Maybe I could buy some decent sheets from here before I go.

It is close to IT Park where I will work.

Anyone got any recent experience. It is difficult to pick through the Tripadvisor reviews which appear to relate to the hotel rooms more tahn the apartments.

I wonder if this belongs here as it's not really about hotels but about restaurants.

Can anyone recommend some nice places for dining in Cebu?

I have been at MO2 but that is more like a music pub and at Cebu Jazz'and'Blues. Both places highly recommended for fun and live music but food is. Well let's is not the food that makes you choose either of them.

Other than the usual franchised places from the Mall I haven't really experienced the Cebu dining so if any fellow ISG-er has any recommendations, I would appreciate it.

If you and your GF enjoy seafood, the Friday night seafood buffet at the Marriott shouldn't be missed. They also have a BBQ by the pool with music that night so its a romantic ambiance with a gigantic variety of seafood. Many of the local "upper crust" are usually in attendance. Make a reservation and don't arrive late.

Like Mortman, this is my favourite hotel in Cebu. It is located behind the Guisano Country Mall, in Banilad.

I took a deluxe room for $67. I considered it to be good value for money.

The place is set in extensive grounds, almost a park. Large inground swimming pool, with a kiddies pool too. Restaurant looks over the pool, with sitting places around the pool, tables, cane lounge chairs, very comfortable. The pool is a very nice place to invite a bunch of friends, particularly girls, as there is plenty of space for them to frolic around, have fun, have a few drinks, loosen up and relax.

The room is fairly large, with a queen bed and a large single bed, overlooking the grounds. Breakfast is included, and it is OK, with reasonable variety. Very nice to be sitting by the pool early in the morning.

There are several restaurants nearby, walking distance, in the Country Mall, and Banilad town center.

Staff are pretty helpful, with a good, positive attitude.

Getting a taxi can be a bit slow, as the staff have to get a taxi from in front of the mall. Not a problem, but allow a few extra minutes.

To me, it is a very comfortable place to stay, very spread out, very relaxing. Good value for money.

Hi Andre007,

I'd be planning a trip to Cebu for the first time residing in Marriot.

Where would be a good place to pick up? R there any go-go bars and entertainment venues?

Cheers

Hello, Sid70 or Cebu Rookie.

If you can afford to stay in the Marriott, you can afford to pay Jackson his $19. 95 so that you can send PMs to members and ask them stupid questions. OR you can be a cheapskate and maybe just read a few pages of the forum in which case you won't have to ask since you will know the answers.

Well now that I have relocated for some variety I can do a better comparison of the above two hotels.

The move to Waterfront is a saving of about P1, 000 per day over what I was paying at Marriott. And P1, 000 can be a lot of fun in Cebu.

The practicalities.

The entrance to the hotel site is quite a let down. The taxi goes down an alley way to access the building. COmpared to Marriott the WF is a much much larger concern. Ballrooms, Casino, many more hotel rooms.

A few observations, in no particular order.

WI-Fi. WaterF: Free in room, no cable, pay service in foyer. The wi-fi is a little flakey. Marriott, free all over, plus cable connection in room.

Bathroom. Two standard towels. Marriott, two soft towels, two face washers, two hand towels.

TV: Old style curved screen TV. Marriott, flat screen.

Floor space. Waterfront is about 30% bigger than the standard room at Marriott.

Room safe: None at Waterfront, In-room safe at Marriott.

Clothes hangers: 4 only at Waterfront and the ones that are secured to the cupboard. 6-8 real coat hangers at Marriott.

Bathroom: My standard room is 'dated', shower recess. Marriott recent refurb, includes a bath.

Supplied toiletries: Waterfront ives shampoo, cond, toothbrushes. Marriott the same and also includes moisturiser (great for massages *wink)

Minibar: Not in my room at Waterfront, minibar, still pricey at Marriott.

Breakfast: Waterfront buffet is a much wider offering. Much busier though. Staff friendly.

Ayala: I enjoy the easy, safe access to the Ayala centre. At Waterfront I feel isolated.

Taking all of the above into account and in my specific situation Marriott is more to my needs. All of the conveniences do add up and also do come at a cost. Needless to say. I'm moving back.

Happy punting guys.

Always best to weigh location and convenience versus savings when booking a hotel.

Some guys are happy to book a single bed in a pensione for 700p a night. Others consider a 15000p per night Executive Suite at the Raddisson the way to go. Cebu has all that and everything in between when it comes to hotels.

Hi,

I'm visiting Cebu in Feb looking for marriage. I came by this board to see how I could line up some fun while I'm there searching for true love (until I'm married I guess it's fair game right?).

I am currently booked to stay the Parklane Hotel near Ayala Terrace. I think I got a rate of around $80 / night. Is this place ok? Will I have safe access to Ayala for shopping / eating or is it a dangerous walk?

If I manage to find a hookup or want to bring a potential fiance to that hotel (Parklane) will I be allowed to bring her in? Any other insight? If not the Parklane where should I book? I'd prefer a place that is decent with a pool and near Ayala so I can walk there to hang out.

Any "no-no's" I should understand? Like if I leave Parkland and walk to Ayala then use an ipad and drink coffee there will I be a target for theft / mugging (for the ipad) on my walk back to the hotel? I don't want to be stupid.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm visiting Cebu in Feb looking for marriage. Can I be so bold as to suggest up-front that if you tell, or have told, any girl that is your agenda then you are going to be screwed royally (and I don't mean in any sexual sense).

Whatever you do, come to the Philippines with a very open mind to meet lots of women AS FRIENDS, and DO NOT (repeat, in caps, DO NOT) say that you are looking for a wife. Just have fun, meet women, and then evaluate. I would suggest that you meet at least 15 women, even if the very 1st one is wife material. If they know you are looking for a wife, they will ALL be wife material and will ensure that you think so. Shop around, and be hard-headed, and don't lose your balls over the first woman you meet. If this is your first visit to the Philippines then the tone of your post indicates to me that you might well be a train wreck waiting to happen, especially if you are actually planning to find a wife this trip. It is not quite like buying a shirt off the rack.

I also hope you understand about all the additional family stuff that can accrue.

I could write a page of additional cautionary advice here but I hope you got the message,

Parklane is an easy safe walk along a busy, major road to and from Ayala Mall. It is girl-friendly. Use taxis to go anywhere else until you feel confident.

Don't flash your iPad or fancy stuff around but there are many people walking around that area with all manner of IT equipment (it is close to an IT Park) so you will be OK.

I don't think I'm a train wreck. I've got no problem finding relationships in the USA but I just got divorced and I heard that Filipinas are very sweet and loving so I thought to myself that I've had 5 major relationships in my life. 1 ended with her affair. 2 because she wasn't right for me. 1 because she was angry at the world and I couldn't take it anymore, and 1 because she didn't want kids. I've seen the success vids from guys that have been marrried for awhile in the USA and they seem happy. Why not me? USA divorce rates are high and I read that arranged marriages can work out. I'll go with pre-nup etc.

If you think what I'm doing is just stupid please let me know. Anyway I'm off topic. Back on topic.

Thanks for letting me know the Parklane is fine. I'll leave my reservation with them. I'll also spend the next few weeks reading the forum. The mongering thing doesn't sound like much fun in the long run to me although while I'm there I plan to monger a couple of times. .

Anyway, I'm LF advice on how to proceed so can someone point me in the right direction?

I've seen the success vids from guys that have been marrried for awhile in the USA and they seem happy. Why not me? USA divorce rates are high and I read that arranged marriages can work out. I'll go with pre-nup etc.

If you think what I'm doing is just stupid please let me know. Anyway I'm off topic. Back on topic.

Thanks for letting me know the Parklane is fine. I'll leave my reservation with them. I'll also spend the next few weeks reading the forum. It looks like I can walk also to Mango square pretty easily from the Parklane which some guys on the board mentioned. Sorry to divert the hotel forum thread momentarily. Is this for real? I think it's a SA pulling our leg. You signed up with a 'romance tour with a marriage agency'? That means you will be introduced to the finest pros, semi-pros and gold diggers Cebu has to offer and maybe some students mixed in for good measure. You will pay large sums of money to the so-called 'agency' when you could go on any dating website and chat with them for 1/50th the cost of the agency. Geeshh, get a grip and I agree 100% you are a train-wreck waiting to happen and I have never seen train tracks in the Philippines! Good luck, you will need it. ;)

You can walk to Mango Square from Parklane but that will take 30 mins if you know some short cuts, and 45mins if you stick to the busier streets. You will arrive in a ball of sweat from all that walking, much better to jump into a taxi and spend the 50-60p.

Parklane is fine. Don't expect a nice pool, it's a square shaped pool on the 4th floor with no tropical feel and a view of the next building. Make sure your reservation includes double occupancy and the buffet breakfast for two as Parklane has an above-average breakfast buffet.

I too am considering one of these romance tours and would greatly appreciate your comments about how yours goes. I have been online with several beautiful philippino girls only to have them turn out to be scammers. Even a ladyboy. You have to webcam with them to even have a shot at honesty. Anyway, like you I am very attracted to these young beautiful women. Will look forward to an honest report on your tour. Who is sponsering it?

Hi everyone! I just finished reading the whole years thread about cebu hotels. I am returning to Cebu in late Feb. 2012 and was looking for a house to rent in lapu lapu but after reading a few messages I'm having second thoughts. I did ask my pinaylove girl to look for us. She found a 2 bedroom fully furnished house with aircon and tv for 7000 per month plus 3500 deposit. Missing is refrigerator. It is walled with iron gate. No it is not near her parents. Hahahaha.

Anyway. I am writing here to suggest looking at the cebu grand hotel. I have stayed there around 6 times over a few years.

The rooms (superior) douple beds with cushion chairs to sit even for 2700 pesos. I think the basic I paid was 2300 anyway. They have an ok pool for some exercise and play with your honey ko. It is on the roof and good view and comfortable seating. I have often had the place to myself.

Included is a breakfast buffet. Excellent in my view. The place is clean, girl friendly and they have business office with net and wifi in rooms.

As for convienence: one can walk 15 mn towards robinsons and pass three nice outdoor restaurants. It takes around 20 to 30 min to walk to robinsons. Yes in the heat of the day not good idea but a nice walk at night and safe. Done it many times and never trouble.

Sometimes if no gf I stop off at the McD and pick up some foods or the gas station for some drinks and chip. Cheaper than room service in the hotel.

There are taxis in the lot ready to take you to SM.

Speaking of Sm to meet your Date in asia girl I suggest meeting her at the bowling center second floor. You would be surprised how many girls really want to try bowling but cannot afford it. Plus you have the excuse to give help in stance and how to release the ball. A lot of hands on instruction plus the great view when they bend over if you are in to butts.

That could have a double meaning. Yes, I think it is a double meaning.

After the bowling I take the girl to sunburst chicken for lunch.

I like to do a not aggressive activity first to get to talk with the girl and doing something fun. It is relaxing and I find better than just siting and chat sharing coffee.

Just make sure the girl not show up in tight short skirt and Hi heels.

Speaking of heels. She needs socks. Hahahaha I buy some for 50 pesos in the sport shop.

Maybe I bored you guys. But I just wanted to share a few ideas. Good luck to all of you in 2012

Assuming I want a real, serious, relationship with a nice girl who's not a gold digger, how do I go about that? Any advice?Newb, I tried to PM you but you don't have a subscription yet. Please pay up the $20 as we know you can afford it. Newbs should limit questions to the Private Message once they have a paid subscription. Also please go there and post a descriptive report on your agency experiences as you see them, before asking questions. The open board is for folks who have been there; the PM is for folks who have not.

Getting back to your question about finding a nice girl who's not a gold digger. They exist, but you better do some research my friend, you are entering SE Asia scam-central (pinas). The place is not for the feint-of-heart. Send me a PM when you have subsrcribed.

Anyway, I'm LF advice on how to proceed so can someone point me in the right direction?I too agree with the other posters. Forget the introduction agencies. You are wasting your money. I have been to the Philippines only twice. If you have never been there you are going to be in for an eye opening experience. My recommendation is that you go there and just have a look around. Even leaving your hotel for the first time will be an experience you will not forget. Seeing poverty outside a four or five star hotel is not something I expected.

My advise to you is that you search some of the sites and chat a lot, and cam a lot. Regardless of your current situation you will be considered rich and you will be a target of every available woman. All ladies I have met have been through the internet sites. Some were good and some not so much, but if you set it up that you are wife hunting they will hold you to it and clean you out. You will be asked for funds. Even some of the ladies I met that I did not sleep with still contact me by YM to ask for money. You would be amazed how many sick relatives these ladies have.

On my first trip I got taken for a few thousand pesos by a woman who advertised herself as wealthy. In fact she was husband shopping and looking to maintain her standard of living. She had a big fancy house with maids. See my post about that. Knowing that something was up I contacted her again this trip and met her again. The house is gone and so are the maids, but she was not above asking for another load which I did not give her. She would have done whatever it took for another loan.

This trip I was more selective and very firm on the fact that I was not looking for a wife. I met and traveled with a couple of very nice ladies who serviced me well but understood my circumstances. Both are definitely wife material and husband hunting, but also understood that slow and steady is all I was interested in. One claimed love immediately but thanked me for not lying to her. In fact she lives in Cagayan de Oro and was affected by the typhoon as her relatives moved in with her. In her case I sent her 5, 000 pesos to help with Christmas but it was not asked for. The other knew the game and asked for nothing more than an enjoyable time together. She was forty years old, never married and no children with a good job and may I add the tightest spinner I have ever experienced being all of 4'11 and a trim 88lbs.

It takes time to understand the country so I would suggest that you use your first trip to just get a sense about what the country and the people are all about. You know that you are entering a different mindset when you travel to a country where the newspapers regularly report what portion of GDP overseas remittances make up.

Finally, as this is a hotel thread. I did not enjoy the Parklane. There were no lights in the bathroom and hot water in the shower so I moved to the Elizabeth after the first night. It is almost as convenient to the malls and in my opinion the rooms were much nicer. Good luck to you and you may want to move this to opinions and advise.

I get the feeling that he is one of those agents trying to drum up business. Few of them have lurked around here before. Like westcoster said pay Jackson the $20, you can afford it and show us you are genuine. I agree with everyone else you are headed for disaster, I initally said spend 2-3 days reading the forum but I know think you should spend a week. You will learn more then any book / tour or movie about phils and filipinas.

Good luck anyway

Maybe back in the early 90's there were thousands of guys going to eastern block countries of the former USSR looking for hot Russian brides but thousands of guys now using marriage agencies in the Philippines? I highly doubt it. Guys today have widespread access to millions of available woman online from the Philippines for free.

Stroker. I want to assure you, and everyone that I am not an agency, but just a guy in Florida who has been on several Philipino dating sites (getting scammed!) and also have looked at some of the tours they offer. The ones that have videos of the actual meet and greet sessions, are very telling in that, generally the girls that show up are not as attractive as those on the site. However there are some good testimonials from "happy campers" that could be for real, or made up. Who knows from 12, 000 miles away. That is why I asked Newbie to tell me / us how it actually turned out. You are not going to get that info on the dating site!

I think I should spend more time here with real "war stories" and less time on the dating sites with "fairy tails". If I am in the wrong forum, then pardon me and please direct me to where I should be persuing this question. Today I learned that it is very important to not go there "looking for a wife" and why. Very valuable, and I thank you guys for your good information and advice.

I have made more than my fair share of mistakes in life, and look forward to being slower to the gun and smarter to the finish.

Best advice I can give you is to google the name of the agency you are thinking of using with the word SCAM after. Read the search results carefully and with a grain of salt. Then pay Jackson the $19. 95 to join and send your questions by PM.

I too am considering one of these romance tours and would greatly appreciate your comments about how yours goes. There is an extensive thread on one of the Scam Alert sites (it might have been Dragon Ladies but not sure) , about the modus operandi of those "romance tours" and the adverts that they use (testimonials from satisfied customers).

They showed excerpts of some of the videos of their "success stories". The videos were taken from a variety of different "tours"

There were 4 videos from the different agencies and (surprise surprise) the same guy appeared in 3 of them with a different girl. In other words, they used actors to spin the lovey dovey story about how each met the girl of his dreams.

They are money-making businesses preying on the lonely hearts guys that do NOT have your best interest in mind.

Holiday Plaza. 1800 per room. But I can no longer recommend this place.

They seem to have trouble getting hot water to the rooms at certain times. The rooftop restaurant is under renovation. I've always liked this place for the great location, good breakfast buffet, and excellent staff.

Wifi requires you buy a card. About 100 pesos an hour. I usually go next door to Bo's and buy 130peso frapaccino and use the Internet as long as I want.

Restaurants: At Ayala Terraces I always liked Lemon Grass. Every time I walked by it seemed crowded so it must still be good. The Thai restaurant Siam is also very good. Bananaleaf had tastless BBBQ ribs and a truly horrible mango shake. Inside the mall there was an Italian place which seemed very popular. Sorry, didn't eat there and don't remember the name.

This has got to be one of the easiest countries in the world in which to meet women. Unless guys have no social graces whatsoever, or are so totally lacking in confidence that they cannot converse with a stranger, then the "romance tours" and other such offerings are a waste of time and certainly of money. It's far cheaper, and probably more beneficial, to pay Jackson the $19. 95 and use this forum as a means of self-education. Pretty much everything anyone needs to know about interacting with women in the Philippines is amply described in one or another of the threads. Newbster, Flyboy et al. Save your money and invest the funds saved in extending your time here meeting and enjoying the ladies.

Ouch, that sounds bad. Is there a forum I should read for better advice? I'm just LF a nice, sweet, loving lifetime relationship. I've hit my 40's and hope to find a girl in her mid to late 20's who wants to build a family and have kids together. The mongering thing doesn't sound like much fun in the long run to me although while I'm there I plan to monger a couple of times. .

Anyway, I'm LF advice on how to proceed so can someone point me in the right direction? As others have already pointed out a Romance Tour is a high cost and high risk strategy. There probably ought to be a separate forum fro this type of question. It's not an easy one to answer given things are rarely as they seem in the Phils and there is huge scope for those not too familiar with the country to be exploited.

Ideally you would need to make several visits to the country get to know the situation and way girls think. However I do appreciate that not everyone especially those working has time to do that. The next best thing is probably to have someone on the ground that you can trust keep an eye out for you. These things are never for certain but if you have someone who your buddy has known for 6 months, knows her family etc that's obviously better than some agency just interested in writing a ticket and earning fees etc. I suspect that most of us who have spend a bit of time out in the phils have come across a handful of girls we felt we could trust and that might make good marriage material so it would probably make sense to become a full member and ask if anyone has someone who fits whatever it is you are looking for.

Having spent a few months for each of the alst few years in Cebu I'm seriously contemplating buying a condo here. Would value advice / comments / suggestions.

I would probably spend maybe 3 months a year there and hope to rent out for the rest of the time. Whenever I have been to Cebu there has been an almost total lack of short term (ie 1 month) appartments available for rent. Especially those which offer.

1 a great city centre location with panoramic view.

2 great pool / gym facilities.

3 large loft style space about 100M sq.

4 free wifi / cable TV and decent flat sceen TV.

5 media centre computer linked to large screeen TV with selection of HD porn / films and music etc.

6 equipped kitchenette.

Obviously this type of place doesn't come cheap and I'm wondering what the potential demand for such a place would be for monthly rentals at say 60, 000 P per month.

Would be interested to hear from people whether they think this would be a realistic rental expectation for such a place and indeed whether thye could have any interest. Also if those with experience of the pitfall and problems associated with buying and renting condos in Cebu or phios feel like chipping inany useful advice that would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

GLYou might try VRBO or similar site to see if anyone else in the building is renting out their apartment. See what the going rates are. Most rentals have a calendar to check avaiable dates, it should give you an idea of the demand.

Also most of the condos I have rented have a real-estate office located in the building or at least a bulletin board for condo sells or rentals.

Also if those with experience of the pitfall and problems associated with buying and renting condos in Cebu or phios feel like chipping inany useful advice that would be much appreciated.GL,

I have looked extensively at buying a condo in Cebu City for the past several years and can relay my experience. First we need to talk about what is available currently on the market.

There are several condo towers currently available that are built to western standards. There are the 4 City Lights towers located above Marco Polo, there is Woodcrest in Guadalupe, there are a few condo towers built or very near finished construction around IT Park. There are several condo towers located out around Lapu-Lapu and Mactan, a few in Mandaue and one tower on Fuente.

I visited City Lights and was impressed by the 3 bedroom units in towers 3 and 4, and seriously considered buying one. All the units that have the desirable city views are all sold and occupied but they have almost the entire mountain view condos from the 4th floor to the 17th floor still empty and available in tower 3 and 4 since construction years ago and that raised huge red flags for me. I liked the layout of the mountain view 3 bedroom units, as they will require less money for AC charges but you do not get much of a view. They have a nice Western style kitchen. 12 ft high ceilings and two CR's, but the units are unsold which means resale would be almost impossible so I passed. Also the developer refused to come down in unit prices even as the condos sit empty for years. About 6 months ago several of the condo owners brought charges against the condo developer to force him to fix major quality issues like large holes to the outside on emergency stairs that let in alot of water when it rains. They did not seem happy because of all the flaws and that made the choice easy, I walked away. They have a really amazing pool, nice gym, a running path around the property, putting green, a tennis court, a full sized basketball court. The place looked and felt like paradise, but like I said I walked when quality and price issues came to light.

I also looked at Woodcrest in Guadalupe. I really liked the three bedroom, two level loft style unit they have. But the only drawback was the units that had a city view were already sold and the price quoted for the mountain facing units were almost the same as the better city view units. They didn't have a nice pool and there was no other real amenities that appealed to me. I passed but there are still units available.

One of the other condo towers that is already built is part of the Club Ultima experience at Crown Regency fuente, it's tower three. All the top level units with the better city views are sold but they have some lower level units available, but once again the view is everything when it comes to resale and if they are still available a few years after construction you know trying to resell them will be difficult.

There are a few other places around Lapu-Lapu but I do not know much about them and they are located too far from the city center for me to get excited over.

Next thing to consider is the upcoming BOOM in condo towers. There are currently well over 60 projects in the planning phase and accepting pre-construction discounts or being constucted. Lots and lots and lots of choices. There will be a reported 8 condo towers that will be built right next to and infront of Marco Polo (effectively blocking out the view from the City Lights towers). There will be two ridiculously high 58 story towers on Mango (Horizons 101). There are four condo towers (that I know about) being built by the Fuente Triangle group, those are the same guys who own Crown Rengency and Club Ulitima. The one project by them being built currently is on F. Ramos and is progressing nicely. They will build another smaller loft style condo tower at the corner of Mango and Gorordo avenue, another condo tower at there complex on Fuente, and a final condo tower located up behind Cebu Doc's. There will also be 10+ condo towers built by SM Prime Holdings all around the current SM mall, and around the FUTURE SM Seaside mega mall currently in construction on the SRP Road. There will be 15+ condo towers constructed around Ayala by Ayala Land Corp. Don't forget the 15+ towers that are in the planning phase or currently being built all around IT Park. That doesn't even take into acount all the towers that are going to go up in Lapu-Lapu and around the SRP and Mandaue.

You mentioned condo rentals. There are a few places in and around Cebu City that currently offer condo rentals, but alot want a contract for 6+months and most prefer 12month contracts. They are NOT cheap. They start around 45000p and go up from there depending on location, amenities and the name of the condo tower. Right now inventory is low and demand is high so asking and getting 60k a month like you figure will be no problem, the real problem begins when the supply outstrips demand and people start to undercut asking prices just to get revenue from there condo. Once all the condo towers get built 5yrs from now you can expect to get half or one-third what you could get now. Forget about short term monthly condo rentals as the Korean students have those tied up for the most part and are very limited supply.

Granted I do spend a ridiculously crazy amount of money on hotel rooms in Cebu and I could put that money against a condo purchase but if the condo tower will not be ready for several years I could be paying for the hotel rooms AND the condo purchase only to find out once the tower is built I don't like it. If you do decide to take the plunge and buy a condo, the standard condo fee's are 50p per square meter per month. You can go look at the model showrooms and talk with the reps but when it comes to condos that are already built you need an agent. One thing I noticed is most agents will have different pricing structure for the same condo unit. I only noticed this when I looked at a condo twice with different agents. The price difference for the same unit was over 3million pesos so be careful! Yes there will be alot of the special foreigners increased prices, so if you are serious about buying a certain condo unit get several agents to go with you to check it out and get the prices in writing.

A quick story. I was staying at a certain hotel in Cebu and throughout the week I would always bump into another foreigner guest at the restaurant across the street. We just exchanged pleasantries here and there but mostly kept to ourselves. Two weeks go by and I bump into him again around Fuente and he tells me he is going to a meeting to purchase his condo from the Fuente Triangle Group and they will build a second condo tower there at Fuente. I asked him how much and he told me 6. 5 million pesos if I remember correct. He explained the layout and the sweeping city views and it sounded nice so I looked into it a few days later. Turns out the condo comes BLANK, which means there is no kitchen, no tiles, no CR, no lighting fixtures only the electric wires and rough in for the plumbing. It doesn't even come painted! I did the math and to bring the unit up to western standards like granite countertops, nice cabinets, built-in wardrobs it would push the price closer to 10million. Yikes I think the resale would only be 8million and I would have to battle when it's resale time against all the others condo owners who will design there units totally different and each will use different standards and quality materials.

As for buying a condo in Cebu City I have come to the conclusion it's better to wait. From what I have seen things look nice in the model units and on paper but what will be the real quality of the condo units and of the condo towers? The people who will buy a unit on a higher floor around IT Park or Ayala only to realize they over payed on a condo that has a great view for all of 12 months as another condo tower is built directly across from them later on will kick themselves. The prices offered now seem expensive to me and I will wait until more of the towers get built to really see which tower is best for me and I can see the quality or lack there-of for myself. I think with an over-supply I can pick which tower and unit I want and get a better deal on the resale market.

Hope that helped, let me know what happened.

Please excuse my ignorance but I was under the impression that as a foreigner you can't own real estate in the PH.

How do you plan to overcome this?

@Greg London & Stroker Ace88.

Please excuse my ignorance but I was under the impression that as a foreigner you can't own real estate in the PH.

How do you plan to overcome this?Frenchmen,

The law states a foreign born citizen with no ancestral claim to the Philippines can not own land in the Philippines. That includes sole ownership of detached houses, any kind of vacant lots or farmland. I am not sure about the commercial aspect (in reference to the 50 employee rule) so for the purpose of my reply I will just refer to residental properties.

A foreign born citizen can own sole ownership in his name of a condo, because you personally do not own the land the condo tower sits on, the developer does. When buying a condo you enter into a co-operative with the other condo owners and that allows you a way to get around the law.

Another way that has been introduced for a foreign born citizen to have sole ownership of a 'house' of sorts is through what's called "condo-certified townhomes'. Essentially what that means, is a condo tower has been built and there happens to be leftover area so what the condo developer builds rows of townhouses that's still within the boundry of the original lot. You can have full ownership in your name for the condo certified townhome, and that includes the townhouse itself, any backyard or land on your individual townhouse lot, garage and swimming pool if available. It's a viable option for home ownership. You will have to pay condo fee's and within Cebu you have to pay premium condo fee's for the condo certified townhomes. (85p per square meter if I remember correctly). There was only a handful of these places in Cebu, Woodcrest in Guadalupe planned to build a few and I am sure by now they are almost finished, and there are a few in Mandaue. More in the planning phase.

Frenchmen, this subject has been covered many many times before on several of the Philippine threads, so do a search and you can read more about it. Many foreign guys who marry a filipina often construct or buy nice homes in the Philippines but the title deed is in the wife's name.

Sorry to derail the Cebu Hotels thread.

Many thanks for that tremendous insight SA. A german developer I spoke to who has been here for 25 years said that he would expect condo prices to be firm fro 2-3 years but potentailly get very soft as some or all of these new developments come on stream. So it's a bit of a dilemmsa I've been offered a nice unit with agood view (at least for now) that is well equipped but it's impossible to see it holding its value well if 50 new condos towers come on line. Incidentally I supect such a glut of condos is going to seriously impact our favourite hobby also if they get filled with horny foreigners.

Cheers.

GLBecause of 2 and 5 I would not recommend you buy, I have problems with my neighbors living with my 4 gf and we have a separate party house, do you enjoy police coming to your door, people here do not like our lifestyle and some have contacts, so be ready to move. Do what I am doing rent 2 houses sleep in one party in the other, work out which one gives you less complaints, try a few locations after 5 years I am still looking for a good party location. I can tell you many stories about police and jealous neighbors.

Ask some of your girls they prob will find you a great house in no time, their cousin my live next door LOL

Frenzy have you looked into Condotels or other places that have a residence / hotel arrangement for your party place? I am curious if you have had any experiences in the past with a place like that. I think its easier to hide our vices in a place where there is no real neighbors or when you are among you own kind.

We just got kicked out from the current party house. The local politician wants us out. Serious you have to be so careful who see what you do. Almost all the hotels are guest friendly and thee will be some 2 star price ra astnge Just take a look at Agoda. Com.

In theory a 1 month condo rent would get you better quality for the same money though you would probably need to spend say 10, 000 exa on electricity / water + breakfaensilsst + some extra utensils stuff for the condo. 1 Month rentals are really rare in Cebu so people are reluctant to post details or they wil find it impossible to find somewhere themselves

The middle and upper class are growing in leaps and bounds in Cebu. Just a few years ago it was rare to see new BMW's or Mercedes or nice SUV's on the streets of CC, but now they are common. The local population will still be the driving force behind the boom in condo construction, with the foreigner monger market still a distant second place.

Your developer contact is correct. Short term the CC condo market will be stable but several years out the market will become saturated and prices will dip. Condos situated in less desirable areas and units with bad views will suffer the biggest drop in market resale prices.

[SNIP]Frenzy have you looked into Condotels or other places that have a residence / hotel arrangement for your party place? I am curious if you have had any experiences in the past with a place like that. I think its easier to hide our vices in a place where there is no real neighbors or when you are among you own kind.I was shown a few condotels in CC. One was near Ayala. (Diamond Hotel and condotel?) I did not like the very small pool and closet size gym area, the lobby restaurant was also lacking. I was not really interested in buying a condotel just curious to see what was on offer. The sales pitch left me thinking I was buying some kind of time share pyramid scam. I crossed the place off my list as soon as I left the building.

As for trying to blend in amongst other hotel guests, I think Frenzy is spot on. Guards, front desk and other workers are the biggest concern. Do not forget gossip is the national past time.

Thanks for sugestionSort answer is get hotels list from Agoda etc. Check the posted rate to see if your budget is ok. Call the hotel directly and negotiate. If the Hotel price is 2100 Pesos negotiate down to 1500 and say you pay cash. All hotels in Cebu and Manila except International chain hotels will give you a good discount if you are staying long time. It is possible to get 1500 Pesos a day if you are staying for a month. Just make sure they have a buffett breakfast for two. Reason is most Phi girls like breakfast and buffett breakfast satisfies them till lunch time or later. You can have some munchies for lunch time and take the girl for a nice dinner. Even if you plan to pick up a girl LT daily breakfast will be nice.

One hotel I stayed in had lots of Korean students studying English and staff staying there. I saw them every day at breakfast. I am sure they were not paying regular rates.

Do not forget gossip is the national past time.I agree but I have never had problem with staff, they can gossip until their heart contains I really don't care. Don't forget they are trained to look the other way and become very tolerant especially if you tip here and there. This is why all hotels in phils are girl friendly. I think the complaints usually come from the person next door who is jealous of your lifestyle not the doorman or the cleaning lady. Person next door who has no idea that you are resident will be tolerant for few days then he leaves. Again this is just a thought I am curious if anyone has actually tried it.

Mcdon we are talking ones that have hoa and long term residents. Where their job is on the line if the do not enforce the hoa bylaws. Once you start staying here longer than 2 weeks it is a different vibe. Also I do not think you know how loud pinay are when they party. (hoa is home owners association)

I am moving out of our current party house as the whole street has go together and want us out. We got charged with public disturbance just for having parties. Our last party the police and local tv station turned up. When I asked my contacts to help they found out the local councilor was behind it wanting us out.

Girl friendly places is not the same as party friendly.

Do you guys have an ideas. ?You call them direct and ask for their best rate for whatever dates you have in mind. Be prepared to move a few days either side as sometimes they are fully booked with conventions and conferences taking up most rooms during week days. Weekends are often lower rates when business persons are not usually staying there.

I ask for a local resident rate too (they like to see a Phil driver's licence to show you are a local resident). These rates are sometimes 50% of expat business person / foreigner tourist rate.

My last time in October. 2011 at Waterfront was double room big bed 3300 php per night for 3 nights with 2 breakfasts included.

Deals ARE available but you have to ask direct to the hotel if the Agoda or Asia Rooms etc are not giving a good deal.

Best deals are on there own website. Basic rooms can be found for just over 3000p per night. There is a promo offer on the waterfronthotels. Com website. Book atleast 7days in advance of your stay and get reduced rates. Promo code EARLY12. I would make sure to double-check other online discount websites to compare prices so you know if you are getting a good deal or not. Also be careful when viewing the quoted prices per night on some websites, as they add on 10-12. 5%SC and Vat on top of the quoted price and some websites list all-in prices.

Just my two cents but Waterfront Lahug is nice only from the outside. Most of the rooms are dated and tired. All the girls know this hotel and since it looks sort of like a castle, most are very curious to get inside and spend some time if they have never been. Waterfront Luhug does have a large lobby with grand staircases, good pool and gym. Also has one of the best buffet breakfasts in CC.

Radisson Blu,

I have stayed at the Radisson in a superior room for as little as 1000p per night, (one night only super promo without breakfast) and stayed in an executive suite for 4 nights, listed on the blu website for 15000p per night I booked it for 4800p. Usually the best price for the Radisson can be found on discount websites if you shop around. Noticed recently some discount websites list the hotel but there are no prices, which means a contract dispute has transpired between the two parties. Radisson blu website has some good promo prices on occasion when things are slower.

Radisson has an average pool (location close to the busy steet a negative-usually full of Korean kids) , good gym, above average breakfast buffet. If you have club lounge access on the 22nd floor that's a real bonus. They serve a good free appetizer buffet around 5pm which includes select sushi, BBQ pork sticks, nice desserts and various other delights. Included free sodas, juices, wine, alcohol and some local brand beers.

Personally I prefer the Blu, but YMMV. If this is your first time in CC I would book two nights at each hotel and you can decide for yourself what hotel suits your needs better. Both have advantages and disadvantages when it comes to location, room quality, price and extras offered and everyone will prioritize things differently.

Having read the posts about marriage agency tours, it seems to me that the posters have never had any experience of how these actually operate.

I discovered this by chance. I had met a lovely lady while riding on a jeepney. We did not have time or circumstance to do anything more at the time. However, she sent me some very high quality photos that were taken by a pro. 2 of them had a logo in the corner, so I googled the logo, and came up with the marriage agency.

Next time we were together, I asked her about the agency, how it worked, what she did, and her feelings about it all.

She did not have the sense that all of the women were hardened pros, or worse. Nor did she have the feeling that the women were wholesale scammers. She certainly is not a scammer. It seemed to me from what she said that the agency is sincere, and screens the women fairly well. In the end, the agency has its reputation and future business to protect.

Certainly not my bag, but the guys got to meet maybe 100 pinay in a short time. How many of us get to meet 100 or more girls, with photos and profiles, and get phone numbers, in a period of a few days? It seemed to me that it would be a good way for a starter to make lots of contacts, select maybe the 20 most interesting, bed as many as possible at the time, and continue the conversations by email. Not bad.

Gumby.Soledad Suites, Tagbiliran. P7000 got: Two nights, free breakfast for two, and a full-day car with driver who took my girl and I to see the 7 wonders of Bohol (chocolate hills, bats, riverboat cruise complete w / lunch, tarsiers, etc.). They don't have a pool, but they have a sister hotel with a pool, and they have a van that will take you to the other hotel for free pool use. Halfway thru the free-car day, just after the river-lunch cruise, we had the driver drop the other stuff on the daily menu and take us to Panglao island to Bohol Beach Club, where we paid the daily use fee to use the beach (which also included free food).

The restaurant has great ambience, decent food and good service. There is a live band every evening. It is the restaurant of choice for Bohol's elite. Free pickup at the ferry terminal or airport. Rates start at about 1800 pesos, but I'd splurge on one of their top floor superior rooms, about 3200 pesos, with balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast is included and other meals are quite reasonable. My one gripe is that the large adult pool is inexplicably closed every evening at 6:00 pm! However, a charming smaller pool near the lobby is open until 10:00 pm. BTW, be sure to negotiate both hours and price for car tour around Bohol. Insist on 8hrs for a max. Of 2500 (plus tip). Do some advance research and YOU decide where you want to go, rather than what is most convenient for the driver. Arrange car rental yourself, otherwise hotel will charge an extra thousand for their cut.

The small pool that Questor refers to near reception is actually surrounded by rooms at the same level and I would have thought it made better sense to close this one to reduce noise for guests staying in adjacent rooms. The main pools are well away from causing any noise issues.

But agree direct can be better at times as my preferred hotel in Cebu I can get a far better deal via the direct route and I have helped others get same rate.

Also, Tunes hotel (very budget) and Quest hotel are opening soon (Tunes last month) both walking distance to Ayala (and close to Island Resorts another budget hotel)

Seems like a good deal they are offering for a two night stay.Current best rate is 3530p per night for a Superior room at Radisson Blue and that's from the radissonblu website. So roughly $83USD or $76AUD but that's not the price you pay. Add on the 10% service charge. 12% VAT. 0.75% local city tax and the price is right around $100USD per night and breakfast is not included.

Radisson Blu is a nice hotel. It caters to more of a business clientele. If you watch the prices closely they tend to be lower on the weekends when there is a reduction in the number of business suits around.

Also note it's currently Holy Week in the Philippines and that means low levels of business travellers so it might be possible to get a promo deal.

Just back from a week at the Shangri-La. If you want a deluxe experience, already have a girl lined up and are prepared to pay through the nose then this is a good option. Don't expect to have local talent visiting the place unless they work on site and are thus put out of range of the mongering guest. Many well heeled visitors from Korea and USA stay here. If interacting with locals and getting a feel for the broader environment is your goal you will do better on the mainland at Blu or Marriott. Both Blu and Marriott are adjacent to sizable shopping malls and are good place to meet locals. I rate Marriott and Ayala Mall as the better option, especially for the afternoon and evening scene. There are plenty of girls cruising for a guwapo (handsome) foreigner.

Can anyone tell me if there is a problem in bringing two girls back to the Parklane. Sometimes hotels are cool with one lady but not so cool with two. (or three!)

Appreciate any input.

Regards,

BubbaNo issues whatsoever. If you are worried use the underground car park (Red Kilt has more experience of that!)

Regards,

I've read the information on hotels quite a bit.

I wonder if there are any new good guesthouses or hotels in Cebu, the like I can rent for example in Cambodia for 15- US$/650 piso. Here one can find new rooms with aircon, wifi in room, tv, fridge, hot water for that money.

If not, what's closest to that?

I'm coming to Cebu in 2 days.

One more, if I may.

Can I just buy a SIM- card at any phone shop? Any provider better than others?

Thanks,

BR65

BR65can't answer about the guesthouses. Let others who know better reply.

But any SIM is fine. I prefer Globe as Sun is cheap but cell sites IMHO opinion are few and as it attracts many due to price you will experience many 'drop outs' when calling.

As Stroker (I think said) , Ayala have a share of Globe so sometiems Smart does not work well in Ayala developments / malls.

But all are the same for a short trip. You can get SIMs at 7 Elevens or in the main malls etc

BR65You want a hotel room for 650p a day that has aircon, free wifi, TV, fridge and your own CR and shower with hot water? Hmm I do not know of any place that will meet your needs. If you want to give up aircon (not advised since it's now summer in the Philippines) , share a CR with others that has no hot water, no fridge, a room with no window and only a dim fluorescent bulb you might find a pension house for 650p a day.

One thing you need to remember about hotels in the Philippines, they are all overpriced. To meet your requirements figure on spending minimum 1000p a day and probably alot more and that's without any internet connection.

Best advice is for you to do your own homework and spend a few hours surfing agoda and asiarooms dotcom and look at the hotels prices and features. Go to tripadvisor to read the reviews on any hotel you like and that should get you started in the right direction.

Best hotels to start your search would be Grand Prix econotel on Mango avenue, Diplomat Hotel on F. Ramos, San Remingo Pensionne Suites in Mabolo, Hotel de Mercedes near Jones and Colon. These hotels are priced online from 750p+ per night.

Keep in mind the price you see online is not the price you will pay. Add on 10 percent service charge. 12.6 percent tax on top of the posted price. The prices might not include double occupancy so you might have to pay a joiner fee if you bring a woman back to your room. Also some places will charge you for every small thing like towels or soap so best to ask or read carefully what is provided before booking.

BR65Cambodia at the moment is mostly a destination for backpackers. That is why hotels are very cheap.

There are cheap hotels in Cebu. But the cleanliness, bed, roaches etc is suspect. Most cheap hotels are in questionable neighbourhood where a foreigner will stick out.

You can call hotel directly to get cheapest rates. Most of the time if you pay cash no taxes to be paid. Sim card is not restricted. Available everywhere.

So try and find Seaview Pension House, Maribago (near Lapu Lapu I think). If you go there and see a very cute pinay with a very old Korean say hi and thank her for the lead

As WR says. The basement car park is an easy entrance to the hotel anyway if you are walking back from Ayala Mall. Most times the guard on duty is sleeping but even if he is not he never says anything. The elevator goes straight up to the room. You reach the garage entrance first if you are walking from Ayala Mall so it makes sense to just go in through there. Otherwise you need to walk another 50 meters or so up the hill to get to the main entrance. If you are in a taxi coming from anywhere else just ask him to stop outside the garage entrance.

this pretty much works within your price range i think: http://www.hotelsogo.com/branch/cebu.html

. Also an interesting cast of characters entering and leaving at all hours. That's funny David.

I have been back and forth to a local Manila SOGO over the past 2 weeks (and each time with a different companion) and I am always interested to see if the check-in boy / receptionist shows any signs of recognizing me each time I showed up.

There was not the slightest flicker of recognition, although they might be trained to be super-discreet. Somehow I doubt this is the case although they are all taught to give a low Japanese-style bow to all guests as you enter and leave.

I reckon if I had a chance to review a SOGO CCTV over a week I would have a good laugh at the "character mongers" coming and going.

Cambodia at the moment is mostly a destination for backpackers. That is why hotels are very cheap.I was in Cambodia early this year. While there are plenty of backpackers, there is also plenty of very nice hotels to be had for reasonable dollars. $20-30 per night inc breakfast. There is also a complete suite of 5 stars, particularly in the Siem Rep / Angkor what area.

My only experience in Phils in Cebu but I think the hotels offer good bang for buck. The foods are good quality. Only draw back I guess is the danger level with the lower price hotels / locations.

You could always try this, is cheap at around 750 pesos a night with special promo of 650 if you stay 20 days, charge may increase if an overnight guest.

Based on a few reviews. Small rooms and nbowhere to hang anything but clean, friendly etc.

Maybe a bit too far for some.

Anyway had a few appointments a day. I choose an additional room in Tune Hotel just next to Ayala. The good think about Tune Hotel is the closeness to Ayala (all girls know that place) , a short 'transfer time' when meeting in Ayala, the mirrors and that you don't have to pass the reception to go to your room. The bad thing is that you have to pay extra for your towels and for Aircon. Was thinking about using Tune for ST accommodations too. [0]. NumberOfAdults=1&roomno=1&validate=false&previousDateful=false&reviewOrder=date_newest_firstAzil,

What exactly are you looking for? A cheap, clean regular hotel room with the emphasis on cheap Or a business hotel?

I have never stayed at Cebu Business Hotel, but just by looking at there online profile I see a few issues. First it's located in Colon. An area that (for a first-time visitor) can be a challenging environment at times. If this is your first visit to the Philippines I would suggest you stay in another area. Mango, F. Ramos or Escario St are better areas IMO, but that's for you to decide.

Second I see that Cebu Business Hotel charges a joiner fee, which means you will have to reserve a room with double occupancy and the original quote of 16-20$ will be increased. Smaller hotels will watch you carefully to make sure they get there joiner fee one way or another.

My advice, book at a better known hotel your first few days in Cebu (IE; more expensive). One that has been reviewed and endorsed by a few senior members. Create a list of some of the cheaper hotels you were interested in booking before your visit. First morning in Cebu head out and visit some or all of the hotels on your list. Ask to see the available rooms and check out the area around each hotel. That will give you a good idea what's available and you can compare each hotel to the one you are staying at.

We all have different needs, and we prioritize those needs different. Some prefer being close to a major mall and the center of the action, others farther away. Some want a very good breakfast buffet, new gym, swimming pool, excellent mattress, air-con and silence at night. Others do not. Some book a room based only on price per night, but end up paying more in joiner fee's and longer taxi rides. If you want to disclose your needs then maybe someone on the board will know of a place that might suit you.

Enjoy Cebu.

I'm thinking it might be more fun to get out of the monger rich hotel gyms and join a local gym when I'm in Cebu to increase my mixing with local fit pinay.

It is used by many government departments for workshops and seminars because they have large seminar rooms, are geared to feed large groups, and they can pack 3 or 4 beds into a room which is just what most government lackeys want so they can pool their per diems and live cheap.

I stayed there ONCE during a workshop that I was engaged in because they told me I would have the "executive room". I lasted one night. It was a small single bed with a better mattress but still on the horrible "camp stretcher" type springs.

As I said. Ideal for business a la Pinoy style el cheapo but definitely no good for mongering (hence the cheap price).

When in Cebu for work I never stay at Business Hotel but instead stay "up town" near Fuente Osmena and commute back to the workshop each morning before sessions begin.

SA & RK: Thank you both for your input. I guess I'll scratch this place off the list. Actually, I was pretty dubious about it anyway. I only mentioned it in response to the inquiry by BigRick, who was looking for something in the $15 range.

When I get to Cebu (looks like early June) , I'll be looking for a long-term place (apartment or small house). So I'd like a hotel for a week or two while I'm looking. Centrally located so I can get around to various parts of the metro area or on Mactan, where I think I'm likely to end up. It needn't be as cheap as this place. $40-50 is what I expect to pay. Girl-friendly is of course a plus, but mongering will probably be secondary in this case.

Speaking of which, SA mentioned a 'joiner fee'. That's a term I haven't heard before, but it sounds like it means an additional fee if I bring in a girl. Is that right?

It will take you awhile to find a long-term rental that's up to any sort of Western standards. Think in terms of months instead of days or weeks. Most rentals are 12 month leases and read the lease agreement carefully. I know of a few guys there in Cebu that have found nice places but it took them a long time before they found a good rental and they rented a crappy place for the first year and spent that year searching for a nicer place. Revise your expectations my friend.

Yes a joiner fee is an additional fee paid to the hotel to allow guests use of your room. It happens alot when booking online and you forget to check 'double occupency' and you book a room for one guest only. The price is usually the same at most Cebu hotels when you book for two. Some of the smaller hotels train there front desk staff to watch for any additional guests and they will request a 'joiner fee' of 1000-1500p+ per guest per night. Always book for two guests and you will have no problems, unless you have a few guests. LOL.

Some info about rental apartments on the "Buying-Owning-Renting Property in Cebu" thread if you want to check it out.

After 6 days I moved into my 4th hotel today. As you can imagine by now, I haven't found anything acceptable yet for what I'm ready to invest.

1st place LA GUARDIA HOTEL, Osmena, near Colon. Took the 2.bed-room due to too much noise in the 1.bed rooms. Paid something like 750 a night. Dusty, dark, not cosy at all.

Moved on a 100 meters to GV TOWER HOTEL, Room for 850, big bed, tiny room, dusty. Felt like shit. Wanted 100 extra for safety deposit.

Then HOTEL FORTUNA, not far towards Magellans Cross, Borromeo Street. Small room 750, incl. Breakfast (if you want to call it that way) Wanted to see the bigger for 1200, wasn't available today, so moves next to Magellans Cross today, Sampaquita Suites. Big Bed (well at least bigger than tiny) for 900- They also want 50- for Safety Box. No water for refill or anything like that. But voucher for 15-minute massage on their 2nd floor. Cebu is really bad for people who live in Asia and don't spend like they're on a 2-week vacation twice a year. Guess prices are similar to BKK or even higher. No comparison to Pattaya or Phnom Penh.

Cheers

I remember getting handed a promo flyer a few months ago from some FF gym staff in Ayala. If I brought the flyer into the gym I could get a free one-time workout, free advice from a trainer, and also a deal on membership if I choose to join. Not sure if that was a one-time promo or standard OP. Maybe they just thought I could lose a few pounds-kilos. *big grin smiley*

Ahhhh, you think your hotel experience in one SEA country will translate to the Philippines. Wrong.

You asked for help awhile ago on cheap 750p hotels, but you didn't take the time to read any of the advice offered by myself and others. Now you are hotel jumping around Colon from one roach hotel to the next, trying to find gold in the toilet but you are only coming up with corn nuggets in your hand.

If you are firm on spending 750p per night you will sacrifice comfort for savings. Up to you how far you will go to save a few pesos and give up things like clean sheets, towels, air-con and have loud music and voices at all hours of the day and night keeping you awake.

Enjoy Cebu!Hahaha, Well Said. I don't understand, why people come cheap in South East Asia when its well known that they are developing economies and 750 pesos can only do so much. In a high inflationary economy like PH where electricity cost are among the highest in the world and mafia like business monopolies all major sector. 750 pesos won't get you anything in PH with some humanly quality.

Being from a third world country myself, I always wait it out my time and save enough money to venture into other third world countries in Asia. Being cheap charlie in an already cheap charlied third world economy is a very bad idea. Contrary to what many do, I personally believe you need good sum of money to travel to third world countries for a decent experience than you would need in a first world country.

In developed economies, you could expect certain quality due to rules & regulations implemented. Here, everything can be brought for with money, no standards, no quality. Its just bribing the authority and they could easily get 2 to 3 star rating and never worry to be shut down due to lack of hygiene etc.

The whole experience is ruined from the start from Airport to taxi to hotel to malls to girls. If you don't bring in enough money.

I have used Tune hotels a few times when it has been convenient, between flights.

The chain belongs to Air Asia, and is operated on the same basis as the airling.

If you book a room, you pay for the room, only. If you want aircon, you pay fro it, if you want internet, you pay for it, etc.

But the prices are pretty low.

The rooms rthemselves are small, too small to stay for any period of time. Immaculately clean, and everything works.

The room may or may not have a window. Didn't affect me as I was passing through.

Hotel Facilities such as (Swimming pool and Gym) are not yet ready and it will be available anytime next year". No word if the pool and gym are now open but it's something you need to consider if you really want a pool. The way things work in the Philippines "anytime next year" could mean 2016 LOL.

What's the price per night you were quoted?"Well priced" means different things to different people.$50 / night with breakfast and internet

The one drawback I see about this hotel, it's in the middle of no-where. It's not close to Ayala, SM or Mango. You will have to take a taxi everywhere. It's located on a very busy street and I would request a room away from the street noise when you check in.

The hotel looks good. Nice modern rooms. Book it and provide a review after your stay.

Enjoy Cebu.

Enjoy Cebu.I have to be north east of there almost daily so it seemed better located for that. I would normally stay at a Doubletree or Marriott but the Marriott is too far downtown. I hate a hard bed and love a nice pool so I hope this place works out. I will post a review after my stay. It seems sort of near Liza's Sea Fun Pub but this being my first time to Cebu, I could be mistaken. Thanks for the info.

Any one have experience with the Cityscape Hotel? Seems well priced and has a pool. This hotel is new so have not had a chance to stay there. Have to disagree with SA as it is in a good location less then a ten minute cab ride to SM and fairly close to the airport. Part of the growing hotel district in Mandaue so if you don't like Cityscape you can transfer to Sarrosa which also has a pool.

I know the area very well and watched the building go up. The location is ok if you want to catch a taxi everywhere, and that's the advice I provided below.

Sarrosa sucks and I would never stay there again. The Sarrosa prices that are offered online are in the 1700p-2200p++ range but when you arrive they have a HUGE sign outside with 799p-899p promo pricing. When you inquire about the promo rates you get the run around with no firm answer if the promo rates are available. The hotel is worn, old, everything seems out of order or broken and the hotel was full of Koreans when I visited. I booked three nights and I checked out one day early to head for a better hotel. Stay away.

I stayed in an older room. Not remodeled at all. The older wall mount AC unit was very noisy and it was impossible to sleep with it on and without it running the room became very hot after an hour. When I complained to the front desk the next morning I asked to be moved to another room they told me sorry every room is full. I asked the house keeping woman how full the hotel was at that time she replied 40% full. I booked online and payed 2200+ per night for a basic room and I was NOT impressed to see the promo rates outside. If I payed 1000p per night I would expect the room to be worn and old.

LOL at the kimchee. Glad your stay was ok, but I will not return.

I had a couple of Filipina staff stay at Quest hotel recently. They reported that the rooms were nice. I didn't inspect the rooms myself.

Dealing with the hotel is another matter. Their front office is a long way for being ready for customers. With just two desks to service such a large hotel it was not keeping up on the day I was there. Trying to pay for the rooms as a third party by credit card was a problem for them, even though me, the cardholder, was present.

Heard another guest complaining to the front desk about noise complaints and lack of their response.

The taxi entry to the hotel is still to be finished. My taxi had trouble negotiating the gutter or lack of.

Walking access from Ayala is via a geepny terminal. Requires two road crossings. The road crossing immediately before the hotel is at the base of a flyover so is a little hard to negotiate.

I booked via their website. Had to use a link on their own website to get a 10% discount. Seemed a tedious process. Check current prices on their website.

Verdict: Get a good price to compensate for the inconveniences.

Had a lady with me at Marriott and she wanted to leave at 4am in order to get home and keep her reputation with her cousin. She wasn't a working girl or regular hotel visitor.

I did suggest it would be better to leave at 6am as there would be more people in the foyer.

Anyway, she asks to be escorted out of the building as not sure where to go. Down the elevator we go and walking through the foyer with a stunning Filipina I am observed by the following:

1 x Front desk staffer.

1 x bag xray operator.

1 x concierge.

1 x door opener.

1 x taxi caller.

1 x cleaner.

Not exactly what I wanted at 4am in the morning.

So, one draw back of the 5 stars is the staff levels. Although everyone is discrete I did feel like a dork.

Verdict: Yep, I would stay but let the ladies see themselves out.

When I was in manila and staying in a condo. I just could not bring my date upto my room and drop them back in the reception. I just text them my room number and tell them to show ID in the counter and directly come up.

But sometimes, its unavoidable, some girls insists to be shown till the reception. If its a regular date no issues. New girls always insists. If you staying for long term. Be discreet, if for short term vacation, you could be more bolder but for the sake of long time mongering. It would be best to avoid these scenes. In the long term. We would be termed as sex tourist and nothing more.

To those who say. Be shameless, who cares, its your money and life etc etc. Just don't look long term or care for anyone else in the team. Just imagine 10 guys had already done this just before 4 am and 10 more guys would do with a hot filipina in arm when you go back to your room. All being shameless. How would that look to Filipinos....?

They will say..ohh the parade of shameless tourists and hookers starts again..we will all start losing respect of whatever we have and it won't be too long when the whole place becomes a cesspit...Give Respect..Take Respect...

All the hotel workers have seen everything. All young especially non-bargirls want you to meet at the front door because they do not want security to ask them questions or make derogatory remarks. However when I went out together with my Ormoc gf wolf whistles and comments are common. Girl got little uncomfortable. After I explained her the facts of life and told her that any girl with a foreigner gets this she calmed down and ignored them.

All the same it is not easy for small village girls to understand.

All we can do is escort them in and escort them out and show them respect irrespective of if they are bargirls or regular girls.

No point in bringing girls back to any hotel unless you are completely diffident about what people say or think.

Some guys may forget what their EWRs for the evening are doing on the other 364 nights of the year.

I was chatting to one of the front door security guys at Waterfront Cebu one afternoon and he told me how there are some of the hotter bargirls around who are very well known to them. He described one girl to me who usually waits until she finds a guy who is staying at either Marriott or Waterfront before she agrees to barfine. He said that they see her at Waterfront regularly and sometimes 5 or 6 times each week. She is bar fined every night and alternates between Marriott and Waterfront.

You cannot avoid having various people knowing exactly what you are doing and where you have been so if you feel uncomfortable about it then you are probably in the wrong hobby.

Yep, I would stay but let the ladies see themselves out.Why not out the back way to Ayala or did you want to get her a cab? The good thing is that when they arrive they can just sit in front of the elevator. Door opens, you motion inside and no one sees anything (except for the 5 guys watching the security cameras installed in the elevator and everywhere else in the hotel).

There is no reason to worry about "walk of shame" - All the hotel workers have seen everything.A friend of mine has been a concierge in his youth, doing night shift. He was well trained by the main guy to close yes, not to bother, an if needed pick up the right girl from a lsit of providers, in case a customer called from his room needing some night companion. In SEA receptionists and lobby workers have seen all and more!

Honestly, I don't care one bit about who sees me walking into the lobby of any hotel with a cute little Pinay. However, I did have an interesting experience at the Water Front Hotel. I was bringing my GF back from the beach and it was later in the evening. We were both sun baked and a bit messy from an all day adventure. My cute little GF was wearing a pair of hot pants and a skimpy T, when we arrived at the hotel. The lobby was full of mature PH guests mingling after some sort of formal event. The looks I got were incredible. At first, I thought I had shite on my shirt or something similiar. Both the men and women were having a real go at me and my gal. It wasn't until I got into the elevator that I realized that I just experienced 'the walk of shame. ' I smiled and thought nothing more of it. Just enjoy the looks and keep on walking.

booked a premium deluxe room through agoda; promo rate of $54. 00 usd (plus tax, breakfast was not included). the hotel is still undergoing construction and can be a bit noisy during the daytime. the only time i found it annoying was one day when a couple of gf's and i were hanging out by the pool. the noise was only a minor inconvenience and is, imho, offset by the reduced rate.

cleanliness: spotless, room cleaned daily, nightly bed turn down service; duvet cover was also changed daily.

bathroom: somewhat small, but with a good sized walk-in shower (big enough for two) , luke warm to hot water, low pressure.

bed: california king with standard mattresses, a bit hard. 3 standard pillows.

mini-bar / small fridge and in room coffee / tea service; two 500ml bottles of water provided daily.

oversize in room safe: easily handled a 15' laptop and probably big enough to fit a 17' one.

free wi-fi: good signal, but on most days slow upload / download speeds

breakfast: large buffet, but imho expensive at 700 pesos per guest.

staff: very friendly and helpful. 24 hour armed security at the front door.

air-con: worked well and was quiet.

plenty of closet / shelve space; a large desk / work space.

there was no extra key card deposit (perhaps due to my booking for 2 adults) ; get two cards as you will need the extra one to keep in the 'power slot' if you want to leave the room and keep the air-con running.

in addition to the mesh type curtains there were a set of heavy 'black-out' curtains with a few velcro tabs to keep them shut – a nice touch.

anywhere from 2 to 6 taxi's were almost always parked out front, so transport was readily available. ayala mall is right across the street, but as aussie jo pointed out, it could be a bit of problem crossing the street during peak hours. in the mornings and early afternoons i would walk down a side street and go under the flyway – much easier as there is considerably less traffic. no issues bringing in guests, only late at night (after 10pm) will they ask for and hold a lady's identification until she leaves.

gripes: really none worth mentioning except the breakfast buffet. an international layout of food, but no english translation for many items. imho if they want to cater to an international crowd they should do a better job of stating what a dish is; and not take it for granted that everyone will automatically know what a particular item or entree is.

CCThe Waterfront is my preferred place to stay because it has such a vast lobby, the security guards never know if you are a guest, visiting the casino or simply trying one of the many restaurants located inside the hotel complex. But I can understand how it must have looked, I have often stayed there when they have had conventions or weddings and the pinay GF can then look a little out of place!

You paid 54$US per night plus 12. 6% tax and 10percent service charge so that comes to around 70$US give or take. Add on 700p x2 to have breakfast and the total comes to around $100US a night. My advice is to book a hotel that includes breakfast if that's important to you to save some pesos.

You can book the Parklane, Crown Regency Fuente and several others in the $70ish area that include breakfast.

For $100US per night you can book the Marco Polo and Radisson Blu with select promo rates.

As always it's 'up to you'.

Enjoy Cebu.

Just stayed in this hotel for 8 weeks. 2 weeks in a 1 bed room apartment (32000 a month + electric approx 2000) .6 weeks in 2 bedroom apartment (45000 a month + electric approx 2000 a month.) The hotel is 5 minute walk to Ayala. The decor in the hotel is certainly dated and shows its age, staff are as helpful as they can be, without licking your arse to much and discrete.

I chose the apartments as I like to have a bit of space, and they are not small rooms in this hotel, the cooking facilities are electric rings, Leave your current g / f to do the cooking and it will get burnt. The really big negative about these apartments is they are situated on the 11th and the water system was badly designed low water pressure very slow, not enough pressure to get the hot water in the shower working so cold showers, to me it became a compromise space verses hot shower space won out for me. The 1 bedroom is equivalent to 2 1/2 in a normal hotel and the 2 bedroom about the size 4 hotel rooms, would I stay again, not in the apartments, maybe ill try the hotel rooms next time as the location is very good.

CCI am with you on this one, although I can empathise with guys who feel slightly uncomfortable. Certainly it does not feature as a factor when I am choosing hotels.

90% of my afternoon female companions will ask me to walk them down to the lobby afterwards and I am always happy to oblige for no other reason than I treat all fuck companions with respect. Without exception all hotel staff, both male and female, at whatever hotel I have stayed at always smile and show professional respect. What they are actually thinking might be something different, but they all know that the majority of single male foreigners staying at their hotel are there to fuck women.

The bottom line is that we are paying customers and while the hotel has full rooms they have a job.

Again YMMV but until more decent hotels enter the market prices will remain relatively high. I like the Marriott and Radison but not thier prices, the latter has nice restaurant the the former a great seafood buffet

I'm back in Cebu for a couple of nights, staying once again at the Park Lane, and again have no complaints. Check-in was smooth and easy, the room is certainly adequate and clean (with free wi-fi) , lots of bathroom amenities and decent, if not outstanding service. This is not anyone's idea of a five start hotel, but it is a decent place to stay, quite convenient for walking to Ayala Mall, and very quiet. I'll have no hesitation about returning.

I'm attending a small conference at the Summit Circle, adjacent to Robinson's Mall. I understand it was once called the Midtown. I've not seen the rooms, but I can state unequivocally that the lunch I was just served sucked; cold, gelatinous, unappetizing. If that's an indicate of the quality of the other services here I'd advise giving it a wide miss. The lobby is clean, somewhat spartan and attractive enough, and I've not seen (and do not plan to see) the rooms.

Maybe it's just me, but I continue to be thoroughly unimpressed by this city: it's congested, somewhat dirty and fairly unattractive. I prefer Davao though it too is a less than stunning place.

You pay the service upfront like using Aircon, wiifii, TV, Toiletries and don't pay for what you do not use. It boasts of 5 star service with 1 star price. The agoda price for a night stay is 703 pesos thats for a three star hotel and many reviews on the sites are positive and rating is Fantastic 8. 1 from 160 users.

Almost everyone seems to be happy. Am I missing something. I have never heard of this hotel being mentioned here.I stayed at the Tune Hotel in Cebu City for a few days. Everything is priced "a la carte". Room, Air Con, Towel & Shampoo, TV, and Wi-Fi Internet, although some combination packages are available. There's also a fee for early arrival before 2:00pm. Can you believe that?

Pros: Beds are new and comfy, large Flat Screen TV, nice modern Bathroom, wall-mounted hair dryer in hallway, attentive staff, and near Ayala mall and other hotels for breakfast.

Cons: Rooms are very small. There are no closets, dressers or drawers for your clothes. You essentially live out of your suitcase (s) which you can place on the bed or floor. A short metal rack with several hangers is located below the air con to hang some clothes (see pics 2, 3 & 4 in the reviews link above). No electric outlet in bathroom. No shower glass door (on backorder). Wall safe is not mounted on the wall, but instead rests on a table by the bed. No free breakfast as there is no restaurant in the building. In room Wi-Fi may have a weak signal which I solved by changing rooms and floors. Hotmail email was not available, perhaps blocked by the router or internet content filter, but Yahoo & Gmail email were available.

By the way, the daily room rates vary depending on the hotel's occupancy rate.

And now you know the rest of the story!

I walked over to Hotel Elizabeth a few times for a late buffet breakfast and it seems like a classy place. I believe the breakfast is included in the hotel room charge.

It was a slow morning when I took the pics and staff was friendly and eager to pose.Breakfast and wifi is included for free. I like the hotel, not as 'nice' or as international as Radisson or Marriott but the price I get is very hard to beat when compared with similar. Cheaper are available such as Diplomat but then YMMV and when I last visited it the hote was IMHO a dump in needed serious TLC.

Depending on your budget the Elizabeth is a good place to stay. So try it or PM me for the price I can get beofre you decide

I stayed at the Elizabeth on my first trip to Cebu two years ago. I got a good promo price as I stayed during their soft opening. They were still painting the murals and not all the rooms were open at that time. The breakfasts were fairly good at the time.

I found it a very nice place at the time but have not stayed there since.

I am happy to see they are no longer requiring the front desk staff to wear those silly birds nest hats that looked like something out of a fifties movie.

I agree with the bird feathers / nest comment and it was a mustard yellow (awful). Now the uniforms look professional and some of the front office staff have heels (real ones LOL) which I find is an improvemnt

If you want a good hotel in Cebu, I like the Apple Tree, its in walking distance of SM mall, and Silver Doller is not far from there as well. Its 998 peso (just under $25) a night, and includes 2 beds. So, you can do you thing on one and sleep on the other. Least that how I did. Here is the link to the hotel http://www.appletreesuitescebu.com/

Good clean hotel, and on the top floor is a restaurant. Or you can order the food and have it brought to your room. Its girl friendly, hot water, only thing bad is the tv sucks. But, did you travel half way around the world to watch tv?

SC.

Try Questor a new one near to Tune but the only report I saw said soft opening but maybe to your liking. I always stay at the Elizabeth. Clean, nice rooms, friendly and no hassles and a rate I like (ie less than what Tune and Questor tend to charge but Tune is dependent on the day) Thanks a lot for the info. Elizabeth hotel looks great. Is this the hotel questor or quest?

http://www.questhotels.com/location/hotel/3-Quest-Hotel---Conference-Center---Cebu

I could not find any hotel in Google search with Questor in Cebu, as you mentioned they are new, probably, no website yet. Just do not want to be confused and end up in Quest hotel instead of Questor Hotel.

If you have the address or phone number etc of the hotel for booking, would be great or I just show up? But don't want to risk it just showing up direct from airport with luggage and then the usual tug of war with words with reception. Did you book it sir, we require guest to book first etc etc

Thanks again

It is the Quest and this link is the correct hotel SC.

But the rates are still higher than I get at the Elizabeth

Aussie Jo did a review a while back on this hotel so check it out as soft opening. It did not look that busy so am sure a walk is fine but also check the normal hotel web sites for rates also.

As this maybe cheaper than the website states

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced, girl-friendly hotel with a gym?

I know the Crown Regency Towers has one but its coming up a little pricey for the dates I intend to be there. According to hotels. Com Summit Circle has one but I couldn't find

Anything on their website. Can anyone confirm?

Also, Harolds hotel was interesting me but I note on their website when trying to get a price the website wouldn't accept a stay of more than a few days. Is this not possible or

Would they re-consider this if I e-mailed them for a price?

Mango Park and Beverly Boutqiue were also on my list but I know neither has a gym, though the MP does have a pool. I'm looking to avoid having to join Fitness First at Ayala for a month if at all possible. Gym doesn't have to be anything fancy, just the basics.

Any advice / recommendations would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Stayed two nights a couple of weeks ago. Literally across the street from Gaisano Lapu. It is set back off the street in a U-shaped driveway, behind a small disco. You have to walk up two flights of stairs to get to the lobby, no elevator. It's a lovely hotel. The room was spacious and plush, with a large window and view (well, a view of LapuLapu). The bed is queen and thick. Carpet. Large bathroom. Clean hotel. Just outside on the second floor is a kind of strip mall, with a restaurant (indoor or outdoor seating) , a travel agent, and massage place (good regular massage, p300 I think). Breakfast is free in the restaurant, but you get a small choice from the menu. No complaints; service was good, wifi was solid, the place is quiet (upstairs, set back off the street, no noise inside). Price: $58USD net for the mid-range Deluxe room. That included free airport pickup / dropoff.

I've stayed there before. Budget hotel on Peleaz, corner Colon. A block from Gaisano Metro Mall. Deluxe room p920 / night. Spartan room, full size bed (not quite queen) , TV, aircon, small refridgerator, simple shower bathroom. Hard to complain about the price. Right across the street, starting about 5pm, a mamasan and her SW. Hot water only works 5-10am, and 4-8pm. Front desk can rarely make change. Not exactly a service-oriented hotel. You want to use the TV? You will flip the room looking for the remote, go to the lobby to tell the front desk you can't find it, and be told you must pay p500 cash for a remote deposit, THEN they hand you the remote (wish they would have mentioned the hot water times and remote thing when I first checked in; when I mentioned that, they looked at me like I was from mars). The internet would go down once a day. I would look outside my room in the hall at the wireless router, it would be blinking a red light. I would go to the lobby and tell them, they would call upstairs to reset the router. By the time I got back up, the router was blinking green and working. Small restaurant on fifth floor, very reasonable prices for food (however, they are none to fast preparing it). Lobby is clean with security at the door (a must have in this gritty area). When I first got to the room, I noticed the phone didn't work. I told them right away at the front desk, they made a note of it. Two nights later, I had trouble with a girl in my room. I picked up the phone to call for security, and it was dead. Damn. The dorm girl got pissy and refused to leave. I had to leave her there and go downstairs to fetch security. The guard came right up to the room and got the girl out. I went back down to complain about the phone."Phone guy come tomorrow." It is, after all, a budget hotel. Get what you pay for?

Area: Walk out the door, turn right, walk a block up the street. On the left is a good restaurant, I had breakfast there most mornings. A buffet of Filipino foods, ala carte items, including juice or coffee, ran p130-180. Across the street from the resto is a condo going up (who the hell would buy a condo in this area?). At night, you will get hit by street guys walking you into various local bars, chatting you up, offering dorm girls. If you go with them, take the taxi please, its a long walk to the several dorms in the area. The dorm girls are 700 up front for ST. SW across the street, dorm girls a block+taxi away, its a good value. The SW are all 500 (they ask more). This is a gritty area. The hair should be up on the back of your neck a bit, at night. A variety of pole-dancing bars on the street. They have done away with any barfine. They want you to buy LD's for the girls (p360 only sir). You can take the girls, but you must take them only when their shift ends, and you make a separate deal with the girl. Two mamasans sat girls with me to talk, and told me first about the individual girls: "You take Mari later. She needing rent money. She ask 800 you will see. Give her 500 only. You give me 100 if you take her." I was surprised by that kind of talk, limiting the girl's take. I didn't end up taking any of the girls, because they get off work at 2 or 3AM (too late for me). Plenty of chubs dancing in those bars, but the girls the mama's pointed out were hotties. One of those places is upstairs, Paleaz St corner Sangianko (not an easy climb). They have about 20 girls, and the street hawk said for p600 you can take the girl in the 'private' room (he showed it to me, several couches) and have the girl for an hour or so. The next night I went in and had a beer and was pounced on by 3 cuties, all of whom wanted a drink and a trip to the private room. I asked them how much of the 600 they get for an hour in the private room: "250!" They seemed fairly jazzed by the opportunity to make 250.

Turning right on Sangianko, half a block on the right, are several gogo-dancing type bars. Barfine is straight 1500 for LT. There is, in front of these bars, a large contingient of local youth hanging on the sidewalk and in the street. 20-40 at times, age 15-25ish, that appear to be rough around the edges, including LB. I've never seen or heard of them rousting or bothering anyone, but they make a rough area look rougher. Don't let that bother you, just walk on thru.

While I stay at this hotel sometimes, I don't recommend it to others, unless you either:

A) need a budget hotel, or.

Be) you like the gritty area.

Pic is view from third floor hallway window at midnight, of Paleaz street, and corner Colon. Night market was going on nightly until about 2am on Colon. Other two pics are taken in morning, on Sangianko St, of the area of the gogo bars, where the street kids hang out at night (7 nights / week).

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced, girl-friendly hotel with a gym?Welcome to the board! Unfortunately, most mid price and budget hotels don't have facilities for working out. But there are a few options you can avail yourself to. The Waterfront Hotel in Lahug has an excellent gym you can use for a daily / weekly fee. If you want to rub elbows with Cebuanas, check out Fitness gym on Ramos (they have a few other locations). There also is the Cebu Sports Complex. Both are very inexpensive and have decent facilities.

SBThe Elizabeth has a gym, not sure what size and equipment you want but has a gym and many people have used it. But not at night with your cutie naked and hanging from the bars as te security video will provide some amusement for the staff in the morning (this happended about 4 months ago. Very amusing story)

If you guys want to know how I usually spend my vacations just check out my profile.I have stayed at both the Marriott (by Ayala) and Radisson Blu (by SM). Radisson is newer and cheaper than Marriott. But both hotels from what I have seen are well maintained. Marriott's executive lounge food was superior than Radisson, more variety at the Marriott. Marriott is GF they do check and inspect the girl's bag etc for your safety. I don't know about the Radisson guest policy was there on other business not mongering. Maybe someone else can provide more information on the Radisson guest policy? Also Radisson's proximity to the bars?

Have checked out this property but never stayed there as the price seemed a little high for the neighborhood. Yes great location on the National Hwy. and only 15 minutes from the airport. But next time try ACE Pension for half the price and is a few doors down and directly across the street from the Gaisano Mall marquee. Don't let the word 'pension' confuse you as it is a hotel by any other name! ACE has been revamped from top to bottom. Large rooms with tile floors and everything you would expect. My last stay I brought in three girls and had a little party and the staff could have cared less!

The staff is super cool but don't ever eat the food there. Another plus is that their safety deposit boxes are similar to the kind the banks use and require two keys to open. It removes the chance of being asked by the front desk staff to pay a joiner fee every time you want to bring someone to your room. Most of the time it's the same price when booking online so there is no downside.

If you need a nice large pool or you have a gal you wish to spend some quality time with, I would certainly recommend the Montebello. I don't remember the prices, but I think you can find that on the web site. There are a few rooms that are a bit run down (the cheapest ones) and then some other that are the same size but have been renovated (the next price up). I did look at a suite, which was expensive, but oh, oh, oh, so nice.

I thought the restaurant was poor value and I don't much like the location.

I didn't find any pics of the room. So these pics are poolside or in the garden. The staff were pretty good, they allowed me a late check out. The bell man was pretty good about getting a taxi. Oddly the taxi's will drive thru the Gasiano Country mall in order to get to the access road. It's behind the mall and it is too bad there wasn't a way you could get into the mall from the back. I don't think they have in room safes. X

From reading the forum there seems to de a few categories of hotels that are favoured by the board members.

Top Tier : Radisson Blu, Marriott, Marco Polo, Waterfront Lahug.

Mid Range : Elizabeth, Quest.

Long Term / Lower : Sogo, Richmond.

Am I being to rash with this selection? Appreciate your thoughts.

Important for me is proximity to shops, close to IT Park, choice of Resto.

Hi,

Thank all you guys for all the useful information I haven't read anything about Tune hotel but I figured at 17 dollars a night walking distance to Ayala would be worth it. I stayed at diplomat last year when I was there and it was close to mango bars which I liked but I would waste money on taxis to Ayala on of my fav spots. I figure if I don't like tune it can be my short time hotel when I am there.

Has anyone stayed at Tune before?

I am at Summit Circle right now and pretty happy with it. Only complaints: Air con could be stronger and the bathroom is small. Otherwise I am happy with it. Location seems good.It used to be called Cebu Midtown, and situated above Robinsons Department Store. It had a name change in recent months after a renovation caused by a fire in the store. The hotel begins on the 4th Floor. The other floors are all part of the Department Store.

You can get the taxi to drop you at the ground floor just around the corner in F.Ramos Street instead of taking you up the long curving driveway to the 4th Floor where check-in occurs. Much easier to just grab elevator from the G Floor to check-in.

I used to stay there every month when I visited Cebu for work purposes when it was still called Cebu Midtown, but then service went way downhill and prices increased so my company and I changed to other places (Parklane and Marriott, on special deals).

I am pleased that it seems to have regained a bit of energy back and the prices are now back to reasonable too.

BTW, as is often repeated here, always book a double room so you will not have any issues with the security guard who waits at the elevator near reception. Prices are usually the same

BDMarco Polo is too far from anything IMHO.

Could add Montebello to the list of medium as behind Country Mall and not that far from IT Park.

Tunes is close to Ayla and maybe used as a Sogo IMHO (and effectively has been used by some ISG members) and next to Tunes is Regal (Lower in my view)

Golden Prince is opposite the Elizabeth and I would deem that Lower also.

Others may / will differ am sure

Low end at 1900 is Holiday Plaza. FINALLY they have free wifi. Geat location on Ramos near Robinsons, money changers, Bo's coffee (at the mostly empty Raintree mall). HP has a good breakfast buffet included and a rooftop bbq restaurant with fairly nice views of the city and ocean.

Sogo...I think that is mostly a short-time no-tell motel.

Shall we make a list of budget places? There are many pensions around the Fuente Osmena circle area. Has anyone ever stayed at Sampaguita Suites? http://www.sampaguitasuites.com/

XA few years ago I stayed at the Sampaguita by the circle. My girl came in from Mindanao on the boat. She is the one who chose the place, she had seen the website. Basic, clean, no frills. The room had a full sized bed (which took up most of the room) , and aircon. It was fine for an overnighter. I think it was p850 at the time.

[SNIP]Could add Montebello to the list of medium as behind Country Mall and not that far from IT Park. The days are numbered for Country Mall, it's slated to be torn down and a hospital is supposed to be built on the site. Gaisano is currently building a smaller mall out past USC Talamban but that site is atleast a 60p taxi ride from Montebello depending on traffic.

Excuse the OT reply.

XActually this place looks reasonable, or at least is well presented on the website. P1300 for a matrimonial suite located closed to Mango bars.

Would you guys say it is safe to walk at night from the bars to this hotel?

WC is right. The rooms in Sampaguita Suites are extraordinarily small. In the room that I saw (that had a double bed that we used) , there was no space on either side to get onto the bed. You had to enter via the foot of the bed. I took the skin off my elbows in the shower when I moved too. Most of the guests were business travellers looking for a cheap place to stay.

Re X Man's comment about SOGO being a "short-time no-tell place:

Interestingly, I spent 40 mins in a Sogo lobby (not Cebu) this morning (I won't explain why) but I was amazed at the number of legitimate travellers who either walked past me into breakfast or checked out as I sat there. I asked the check in clerk about it and she said that more than 50% of business is overnight business travellers and OFWs looking for a place to stay overnight before they either head overseas on early flights or else return to their provinces. Price is 1500 php for executive room (24 hours). She said that the rooms on 3rd to 5th Floor are reserved for longer term stayers and the regular 395 php to 500 php rooms are for the regular ST guests. I guess the clientele may well be different for Cebu SOGO but there are far worse places to stay for 1500 php. In my experience, SOGOs are always clean, although usually the towels are a tad shaggy.

Watch out for the pack of glue or gas sniffing kids that swarm lone walkers on Mango. Really it is one of the 'best' areas for people to do you harm. Take a taxi.I disagree. It's one of the safest places in Cebu. There is a police station located right on fuente near larshan. Lots of other places around CC that are worse.

Street kids do not sniff gas for the most part, they inhale an industrial adhesive called 'rugby'. If you see the resident pack of street kids around the Mango-Fuente area cross the street. It's best to avoid them if you can. Generally that area is very safe. I have roamed around there at all hours of the day and night. 1am. 3am. 5am without any previous problems. To be honest your biggest problem will be trying to avoid and fight off the persistant LB's that roam around that area after dark and just can't seem to take NO! Always be aware of your surroundings and carry enough pesos that you need for the night and do not flash cash or jewelry.

Most of those street kids are not local kids. They came from Mindanao to beg on the streets and steal whatever they can so there handlers can profit and send money back home. They used to hang out on the Mandaue side of the new bridge and would run through traffic begging for coins distracting drivers while the other members of there group tried to open and steal anything that was left available in the back of trucks. The PNP rounded them up about a year ago and handed them all over to cebu city health and child services (DSWS). They stayed only a few days and were released when they could not locate there families. Now they roam around Mango.

Sorry for OT reply, this question should of been asked in the General Cebu thread.

Enjoy Cebu.

Mango, you may be safe, but your wallet isn't. I had a kid go for my wallet and I observed a pack of kids opening the taxi door for some Koreans and also go for the wallet. Pay attention to your surroundings. Stroker, are you 185cm and 100kilos of muscle?
