Asuncion.

The hardest topic in Asunciand. Where to stay and mode of transportation.

Majority of the Depaertmentos / casas are in the Centro area. It's a country with Nothing to see, Nothing to do sightseeing (limited) or nature. The expansion is to the East side of the city and the well off stay and the rich in their eastside areas with their own restaurants and entertainment. There are a few hotels there. You either need a taxi to get there from Centro or a rattling bus. Not sure about the bus service at night. From Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday, almost ALL places are closed in Asunciand at least in the Centro area. Just a handful of places are open for eating or entertainment.

Hence, where to stay. All depends upon one's needs in the evening. Centro could not be safe late at night. If you need to eat or need to have a drink or listen to some music, is it close to the hotel or need a taxi each time to get anywhere? Taxis can get expensive especially the surcharge at night and on Sundays. Buses may not be a good idea at night. Someone mentioned earlier about renting a car. It may not be a bad idea and then you can stay where you want and drive to where ever you want at any time you want. I do not know the costs of renting a car in Asunciand. Even staying on the Eastside requires travelling a bit of you want to go to different bars / restaurants and clubs different nights. There are some very pretty young rich hotties on the Eastside!

If you decide to stay in the Centro, it gets very deserted at night with food and entertainment only at a few places. If you are going to stay in at the hotel watching television, and not go out, then it does not matter where you stay. If you want to go out even to socialize, then choice of where the hotel is matters. It all depends on one's needs. While walking around in the Centro, I gathered some information from some hotels that are girl friendly. There are more and we can add to this thread.

Palmas del Sol hotel, Avenida Espana 202 c/ Tacuary Tel: (00595-21) - 44 485 rate: g154 mil. I stayed at this hotel. It is on the North East corner of the Centro. Though a nice hotel with nice clean rooms and a pleasant staff and GF, I do not recommend it. It is cut off from the rest of Centro and no noticeable restaurants and entertainment close by at night. If you want to eat the same hotel buffet every night and no entertainment then it does not matter.

I am mentioning Mall Excelsior for a reason. It is on the Southside of Centro, close to Hotel Excelsior. It's a pretty decent Mall and the food court upstairs did not disappoint. Bar Astoria is also there. There is a stage too and maybe at night there may be some music and dancing. There was eye candy there in the food court too and is open at night and at the weekends. Might meet some hot asses there at night! Hotels close to this mall may not be a bad idea.
