You should like Montreal, its ladies and the joie de vivre, but it is not South America. Some will disagree on this, but you can see it somewhere between US and South American style. Very, very decent. You're located right off the Crescent street entertainement area and its good looking crowd. It is not far from Lucien L'allier and Bonaventure metro stations. imho, i would rather go to have a free lunch in a sc (if it is still available somewhere?) before that type of restaurants. i am not sure they're still in business. think of them as a cheap pa n' ma hooters where local blue collars stop for breakfast or lunch. your milleage should be about equivalent with burger king or mcdonald's, unless you picks up the waitress, there's nothing there.

also, both are located in hochelaga-maisonneuve, a low-end borough where i don't recommand one to go. first of all, there's no tourist attraction there (that's the area between downtown and the olympic stadium park). also, it is not the bronx or compton, but it is tough: once i got punched by some total loser just because i walked in the same department store aisle where he was standing.

there's also some similar sexy restaurants, haircutters and other specialities in ville-st-laurent, laval and around the city. when they go too sexy, suddendly the well dries up. often the waitresses are far from being cindy crawford or halle berry look-a-likes. a classic institution (founded in 1961) you might want to try is "chez l'pere gedeon". it is not on the subway lines, but you should get quite easy with a free bus transfer from the nearest subway station or by renting a car.

All the serious agencies have suburban rates for the airport / West Island, but ask them if they can manage something on St. Jacques Street in NDG. Most of the Montreal agencies that I think highly of, Eleganze, Asservisante, etc. Charge 180 Canadian dollars per hour. That used to be $135 USA dollars. Now it is $185 USA dollars.

I don't have any personal experience with non-outcall scenarios for less than $180 per hour, sorry. It may exist but I just don't know. I am so used to budgeting $300. $400 per hour in the USA that the $180 seems like a bargain, but I hate the lack of a good exchange rate that used to exist.

I have found some good deals on VRBO, no I'm not shilling. AirBnB also has apts listed but they charge a deposit fee of around 200 US I think. I found an apt for 500 US for 7 nights. Fully furnished with a kitchen. Just like living there. It's certainly a cheaper option considering you can cook your own meals. Unfortunately I've had to cancel my last two reservations due to unforseen circumstances and have yet to visit montreal. VRBO IMHO seems less controlled from what I have experienced. Although I have only inquired about rentals and nothing more. I had email contact with one renter who dodged my questions twice regarding payment. What I like about airbnb is that you pay through the service so there is a middle man to sort out any issues that might arise.

The deposits always freak me out. Make sure you take photos of any damage you see once you get there. Also make sure the date / time function is turned on in your menu settings.

If it is old, you can get a waiver (like Bush must have had to!) , but if it is less than 5 years you are in a tough spot. Part of the question is how it was dealt with at the time. Was it handled as a 'moving vehicle violation' (like in Delaware I think) or a 'civil forfeiture' (like in Wisconsin). In that case you might get away with it. If it was criminal, even if a misdemenour, then you may be out of luck.

I know at least 3 people with DUI's that have rolled the dice and been told 'welcome to Canada'. But you always take the chance of being excluded / deported.

Please note that the form you complete when entering Canada does not ask this, so you do have deniability. I. E. You won't be both exluded and tried for lying on your form.

Elements of the hobby in Montreal that I didn't get from the board:

1) Plan your dates in advance. I showed up at 8:00pm on a weekday, and even though I had a few agency numbers ready, I couldn't find anyone available to come out.
