I am in Canada living with a married Filipina, she is educated and worked in Thailand as a Teacher and one of her sisters is an actual MD living in the US but working as a Nurse. Not sure if this counts as stupid shit, but I'll take a shot.

One fine day in MNL started with handing in some laundry to this place near Guizo Suites before poorly attempting to monger. Best way was punch in Vito KFC on Grab and walk next door. The next morning I was hopping on a bus to AC so was counting on making this smooth.

Was planning to hit EDSA that night but get back to laundry back to hotel. Traffic was bad getting from rooftop bar near Burgos back to laundry. They close at 9 pm. Got ther at 9:15 pm. Steel roller door with no hours or contact posted to find out what time they open in morning, tossing a wrench in my plans.

In my fit of rage, two 10 yo boys begging for change after I told them NO, had the audacity to reach into my pockets for a handout and I raised a fist and got loud and they backed away like I had some kind of attitude problem. I was ready. Part of it was still freshly raged by previous night's massage girl rifling $60 USD out of my pockets. Took a breather, glared at homeless people and ordered a new GRAB to move along to hotel then monger scene.

Next morning, checked out of hotel en route to NAIA to catch Genesis bus to AC, but with added trip to retrieve laundry. So called for a GRAB back to the Vito KFC around 10 am, hop out walk toward opened up laundry and walking toward their door, feel a ugly feel.

One of my two phones squirted out of my pocket as I climbed out of that Kia Optima. The laundry lady is mesmerized by my panic attack. Calling Grab, the error voice says "We do not accept phone calls from your (plus one USA) country code. Good bye. " Eventually tear thru app to find option to email Grab to reach out to driver. May take all day to get results. FML.

Laundry lady has my clothes ready and telling me to breath. I'm thinking how I'm going to lose an entire night in AC from waiting for Grab to track down driver. So much spinning in my head.

Then.

Horn sound. Look outside. It's my driver. I do an epic happy dance. He hands me the phone, I offer cash probably $10 in pesos and guy waves it off saying "Don't worry, I gotchu. " How did he know where to find me tho? Turns out when he was looking for a monger at KFC, the same colony of homeless people tipped him off saying they spotted a monger hop out of his car at KFC and immediately walk a few doors down to Red laundry. The same homeless people I tussled with 12 hours ago just bailed me big time. Funny how that works.

I stride back into the laundry to grab my stuff, wind down my happy dance placing phone in my pocket and as soon as I did, laundry lady became Mom. "No! Bad monger! Bad bad monger! That's what got you in this mess in the first place! Put that phone in your backpack! Now!" I complied. "Now zip that backpack pocket shut!" I did. "Good monger, now you don't have to lose phones all day. " Once she was convinced I wasn't going to make a further ass of myself I was free to go. Ordered a new Grab bound for NAIA, grabbed a bite at Wendy's, hopped on the Genesis Bus and Grab App agent pinged asking if I was still needing to reach out to driver with my phone in his car, and told them he swooped back around done deal to close the help ticket.

For many girls employed by the bar or freelancing it has become a home. They have their whole family living there. They all live there with the money earned by the girls if they have more girls. I agree in the aggregate with you PM how ever there are some good things that I truly enjoy. I go there for work and get to know allot of real people and I don't spend my time trying to fuck brainless 20 somethings.

For me the pluses are: PP.1. Its easier to get laid there (while not lying and not paying) than to buy a good cheeseburger. And 95% are my friends afterwards. Well put (a little hard on Jollibee).

2. There is live music everywhere and they are gifted singers. (agreed. I have head Pinay impersonators better than the originals).

3. They are friendly and warm people beyond all. I enjoy Bus trips I always make a new friend or two. Agreed. The thing is to get among the ordinary folk, away from the hamburger guzzling American whales.

4. I prefer the countryside to the city and I love watching the pace of life in it. Who doesn't? Crowds are everywhere, almost.

5. I enjoy the cost of a movie and the fact it is a big deal there moreso than here. Movies are great. I love how they get into it.

6. People watching is enjoyable. As it is everywhere but again the trick is to get away from the Yanks.

7. The fancier things are cheaper. What is fancy? It is not the place to go for fine and fancy things.

At the start of this year, 2022 was looking the earliest. Figures I've seen in the last few days from the success of the vaccine programs shows a rapid decline in COVID spread in the vaccinated population.

With this in mind, I started looking to book for a November conference in USA. Travel from AU to USA with QF & AA in economy will be AUD2,500. The PR quote for the same trip SYD- (MNL) -LAX (stop) LAX-MNL (stop) SYD with a one week stopover in Manila on return $1,100. Hopefully by then 'covid vaccine passports' will have some acceptance.

As long as hotel quarantine is not in place in Manila then one week in Makati would certainly get a few notches on the bedpost.

1. The typeface in the boxes does not line up. The correct typeface would be the one in the Student ID box because that number is a match for numbers below it in the account number.

2. The charges minus the credits equal around 2,500, not 10,000.

3. The 2021 due date at the top is different from the 2001 due date at the bottom is different than the 2008 date for the charges.

One bit of advice I would give anyone coming to the PH is this. Be respectful and follow all of the rules in place, regardless of how stupid they may seem to be adhere to what is asked of you. People here have missed out on a lot since Covid hit and every chance they see to take advantage of you they will. Don't develop an attitude because think you shouldn't have to follow a certain set of rules. You will be asked to fill out a contract tracing form pretty much everywhere you go with name, address, phone#, ect, you are required to wear a facemask at all times in public. Also you will have to have your temperature taken and show proof of vaccination to enter most establishments. That's just how things are now so if you have even a slight problem with this stay home. The cops would have no problem whatsoever of hauling you to the Barangay hall and / or extorting money from you. If you are anti-vaccination you definitely don't want to come here. To begin with you probably won't be able to board a flight but if you did get here without being vaxed there is very little you will be able to do.

There is still plenty of fun to be had but get used to having your temperature taken and filling out a form every time you go anywhere. If you go to 3 restaurants a day and 10 bars yes you will fill out 13 forms and have your temperature taken 13 times. Granted there are some places that are a little more relaxed than others but look for the cops to be on the prowl to fine any foreigner that thinks their rules do not apply..Instead of suggesting how people should behave you could give some useful intel. GE.It doesn't surprise me that there is a sliding level of compliance across the various cities and regions. It just mirrors their attitudes to non-'Rona related rules. Just look at safety walking back streets at 3 am and taxi driver honesty in Davao vs AC. A world of difference pre and post pandemic.

GE.Exactly, the rules do seem to be easing off a bit. Still required to show proof of vax to enter either Clark or SBMA but if you just hold up a copy of anything that looks like a vax card they wave you through. Royal on SBMA no longer asking for vax cards at least not when I went in. Went into Harbor Point twice in 1 day, different entrances. One wanted card the other didn't. Alcohol ban lifted in AC, with no curfew. Barretto still has 12 PM curfew but didn't have these second rounds of alcohol ban. Mask still must be worn in public. Inside the bars / restaurants not required. Contract tracing forms pretty much hit and miss. Who knows what will happen tomorrow. The rules could slip away or become very enforced? The cops haven't had much shakedown / hustle money in a long time. If I were a betting man I would bet that many tourists will be slapped with a fine if they remove their mask in public. Stay tuned, the show starts tomorrow.

What is this traze app? It is a tracking app. It is used for contact tracing. You make an account in the app. Then, at many biz / gov offices, to enter you can either fill out the contact tracing form (your name, address, phone number, age), or alternately you can open your app and show it to the door guard. I believe that reports your location and time of day to the government (probably the DOH) for tracing purposes. At least one airport required showing the app, and the Intramuros BI uses Traze or an alternate similar app. You must log into it and show it to the outside guard in order to go inside.

The VOA (step off the airplane, walk thru airport Immigration, as most of us are used to) is good for 30 days. Applying at the embassy, the visa is a pre-visit visa (laminated onto one complete page of your passport), and is good for 59 days.

It is a tracking app. It is used for contact tracing. You make an account in the app. Then, at many biz / gov offices, to enter you can either fill out the contact tracing form (your name, address, phone number, age), or alternately you can open your app and show it to the door guard. I believe that reports your location and time of day to the government (probably the DOH) for tracing purposes. At least one airport required showing the app, and the Intramuros BI uses Traze or an alternate similar app. You must log into it and show it to the outside guard in order to go inside.Yes, some guards might ask you some others don't.

I was asked by the Manila airport guard last weekend.

BTW going to Royal Club (a popular disco in Makati), I was asked last Saturday for a Makati traze certificate only, they didn't accept my Traze certificate, because the bar code won't approved, it only approved a Makati Traze certificate.

I guess now Makati has their own trazing certificate, but I went to other bars and they didn't ask for it. Only Royal Club asked me. It was funny seeing everyone (with no exceptions) filling up the form on their phone at the club entrance, it was easy to fill up and it didn't take 5 minutes to do it.

You have posted some sensible advice, and others contemplating coming here would do well to heed it. I don't know the extent to which my comments about Davao, where I live, are generalizable to the rest of the country, but here at least restrictions are still in place: everyone is masked at all times outside of the house; bars and restaurants may not sell alcohol; public indoor venues may only accommodate a fraction of their full capacity, and people here comply with the rules. Any foreigner coming here thinking that the rules will not apply to him is in for an unpleasant surprise. My advice to anyone considering coming here is to wait for another 4-6 weeks during which time the rules may be relaxed slightly and recreational facilities may start to open again. Right now, this city is not a lot of fun.

GE.The more I hear the more I'll have to give a big no thank you to this supposed grand opening. From the sound of it there's just too much annoying nonsense still being forced on people: Have to get 'crop dusted' to enter certain places, have to wear silly face diapers even outdoors in the 95 degree heat, have to fill out 'health forms' all the time, still lots of interference in the freedom of travel between provinces and islands, lots of places still closed or on reduced operations, many hotels as well as condos and AirBnBs not allowing guests unless they get a PCR test. In all this euphoria over finally opening up lots of people are neglecting to research what they will actually find when they get there.

For my 6 weeks off in April / May Mexico is looking better and better. They've implemented little of this silliness and surprise, surprise. They're no worse off than most places. I'm also hearing good things about El Salvador. Perhaps Costa Rica from March onward, though they may still have the insurance requirement, which might be a good idea in any case. Possible Dominican Republic although I'm reading there could be a curfew. Philippines? Hopefully later in the year but even then I'm not counting on it.

Booked to go and try my luck getting into Philippines in April. Got a reasonably priced Air ticket from JFK to Manila paying $870 round trip on Turkish airlines website. I had planned to visit Istanbul last trip which was cancelled. This one gave me a layover in Istanbul approx 24 hours to get out and do one day sightseeing. Ofcourse turkey needs visa which can be done online.

Now to navigate list of complicated things to be done to get into Philippines.

1. Covid PCR test. Most cheaper labs take minimum 48 hours for results. Are they strict about when the sample was drawn? Or will accept date of the results which should be 48 hours before leaving own country. There are some labs which charges $250 for fast pcr test in two hours more or less.

2. Travel insurance with min $35000 medical coverage. Easy to get. There are a bunch of companies charging 100 to 200 dollars.

3. I have not tried but All the required apps can be downloaded and info can be uploaded.

Now the caveat is does the immigration or the airline has time to check and make sure you are allowed in. I am hoping by April process will be simplified and just need to know one verified certificate to enter.

Some of the girls say they have not had vaccine. Will the hotel check? How easy to get them vaccinated? Or will end up in hourly motels to have fun?

I guess those mongers on the board will post reports of their experience before I go.

Your thought that they want to contact you in case someone in that location around that time of day that you were there, so they can test or isolate you, is exactly the point. Phils DOH is sometimes crazy about contact tracing.

I had a neighbor in my residence (only 3 foreign men live in my residence) who got a call from the Brgy health clerk. The clerk told him that an infected person was in a business when the neighbor was there. She asked him to come to the Brgy hall for a test. This is exactly what those tracing forms (or apps) are for. He went and his RAT was negative. They did not ask him to return for another test, even though it was possible that his possible infection acquisition was recent and it was too soon to tell if he had a viral load. Can one say 'possible' twice in the same sentence? Contact tracing: Good job! Wrong time to test: Fail.

Also for those on the outside who have not seen the massive number of biz contact tracing forms filled out at the door each day, a biz like jolliebee will easily fill a cardboard box full of those daily. A Jolliebee manager in the province told me that she is not allowed to throw them away. "Sometimes the government comes and takes a box. Or they don't come by for months. They tell me not to throw them out. What do I do with all the boxes of forms?" Its a hassle for the businesses also.

You will have to be PCR tested again in order to fly back to your country from Phils. Several thoughts:

1) In Manila, there are dozens of testing labs that give fast turn-around results, $50-ish USD. Phils Airlines has a testing site next door to their ticketing office, right next to Robinson's Malate (Padre Faura corner Adriatico, just steps from G-Point! They guarantee results in 24 hours or less. Walk-ins or advance appointment welcome. There is an app you must have on your phone, if you don't have it then the guard will show you how to download it. Your airline reservation will have a QR code, the app scans the QR code to verify that you are you, and that your PCR test is for you only.

2) As I reported before, and provided pics, there are bunches of labs that send a nurse to your door to collect a sample. Results guaranteed usually in 24 hours or less (faster for more pesos). $65 USD is typical.

If you get all 4 of those things, the list might change before your flight, and there is little chance PAL will make the website change (nor notify you of the change). The good news is that PAL is responsible at the point of your longbow check-in (ie, SFO) of any requirements. They really do want you to get on the flight, and they will hand you any needed new documents to fill out right there.

90 clams for 3 weeks seems reasonable.

One thing surprising me is that in most post I read here about the medical insurance I see that quite everybody take a special one for some weeks or more and pay for that a specific amount, sometimes more than 100 $.

Maybe I miss something or maybe in some countries it doesn't exist but I saw that the insurance linked with my credit card, Mastercard but Visa do the same, is already covering me for all medical expenses during travel including hospital with a maximum of 1000000 euros.

I called them to get confirmation, and they confirm, covid is included in the coverage.

They can also send a proof letter for this coverage if we show them the flight ticket.

So. Maybe its specific for Europe, but first check if you are not already covered by your credit or debit card.

Saying that though I am still likely to take out a standalone travel insurance policy for the $100. The credit card insurance doesn't cover private hire of drivers. I felt the description would exclude my various cover when being driven by Grab and other drivers IE the guy I text to drive me from NAIA to AC.

I have no interest in a Covid debate. An anecdotal statement about someone vaccinated getting covid is nonsensical and confusing, because we've known for a long time that being vaccinated does not keep you from getting it, particularly not with the current variant. My best friend is an ER doctor and has treated literally thousands of covid patients in her hospital, and not one was vaccinated. And yes that's anecdotal evidence but let your logical brain do with that what you will. There are lots of laws I would prefer not to follow. Hell I pay too much in taxes. But I pay them because I would prefer not to be a felon and go to prison, but also there's an ethical element where I realize I need to do it to be a contributing member of society. Plus it builds some roads I drive on. It's pretty clear that masks have little effect when we're talking in a practical sense in a day-to-day general population. My pro mask stance for the unvaccinated is mostly punitive because I like punishing people. But as I said, you do you. Apparently a face mask is required on public transport, I have used meter taxis and both the MRT and the BTS since I arrived and never bothered with a face mask and I was never challenged.

I though that face-masks were compulsory on the public transport in Bkk, but yesterday afternoon whilst riding on the BTS Skytrain there was an announcement on the video screens that advised passengers that masks are not compulsory though they advise passengers to wear them. Well, I still won't be wearing mine!

I post here because of my interest in the Philippines and their maniacal following of the Covid cult. Ya, that might be a good description. The locals are like lemmings. Its still 99% + with the masks, although there is more incorrect application (under the nose or chin). I'd guess that if the government told everyone tomorrow that its safe to ditch their masks, a month later 25% would still be wearing one. The mask has become integrated into their psyche. I believe that I have reported at least once that locals, during the first few months of the lockdown, warned me repeatedly not to go outside. Door guards, front desk staff, local friends. "Westy its not safe you go in the outside. Covid!" That was factually incorrect, as nobody was moving outside. If I had been ragingly sick and infectious with Covid, I could not have given it to anyone outside, as there was nobody else on the street to give it to. Had I passed another stranger outside (who was infectious with Covid), the odds of us getting physically close enough to transmit it would have been minimal (the other guy would have been across the street, or we would have passed each other at the time with a healthy distance. Not going outside when nobody else is around because of Covid fear is simply not rational. But, pinoy are superstitious.

At one point the former president (Duterte) was threatening vaccine refuseniks with jail cells! Does that sound like any kind of rational administration? No sir. But given my previous reporting over the past 2 years of the craziness of so many different leaders instituting so many different local rules, and given the tendency of uneducated people to be superstitious, "rational" doesn't really come into play. The DPS has been cleaning up Manila namely the tondo and divisoria area basically only hurting the poorest of the poor in manila. Endless piles of trash the DPS could be picking up instead they are out in force seizing motorbikes and food from people who have nothing making it almost impossible for the poorest among them to survive. They have now come out with a metric to calculate if you are rich. If you spend more than 18.62 pesos on a meal you are RICH! The Brgy sweeps in at sunup and moves everyone out. Sometimes they get to take what they can carry and the Brgy takes the rest. Other times they don't get to keep anything. The Brgy occasionally makes a sweep along Burgos from Makati Ave to the far end at Makati Ave, taking everything that the street girls have laying about (cardboard mattress, bag of clothes they use for a pillow, sweater to keep warm at night). At first I thought I might have a disappointing trip because I kept reading bad things but I quickly realised that almost all of the negative posts were written by you. In the end it became amusing. In over 100 pages you've barely had one good word to say about the place you've supposedly lived for 27 years.

So excuse me that I find your 'better things to do' comment amusing, you've trolled this board relentlessly for years with your one-man mission to discourage people from visiting.

In fact, a week in Angeles had made me realise that your opinions are so far divorced from reality it's clear to me you have an agenda. Perhaps a financial interest in a Pattaya bar, or maybe you really do work in Angeles on business (hmm) and you want to discourage others from visiting to increase your odds. You strike me as someone who needs all the help you can have.

Happy mongering.You're correct that guys' standards can determine if they enjoy a place or if their preferences are fulfilled. I'd also add that personality plays a equal or greater part. Some guys' could have a party at a morgue while others' glasses are always half empty and they can never enjoy them selves.

Some real world examples that I have posted before:

A guy complained that he hated Sabang because he travelled so far and there were no Russian girls.

A guy asked for assistance with Cebu and was given names and addresses of bars, clubs etc and even girls' WhatsApp. He complained that he couldn't get any girls to come to his hotel. Not the quality, he couldn't even get them to turn up.

These were far less about the place but the attitudes of the guys involved.

Hey guys, question please.

What would you do? My friend that lived there longer than me said I should write it off to philanthropy. But I'm not really inclined to do that. Yet.

At Magallanes Residence, there's sort of an on-site office but I doubt they like me much. I was probably a pain in their ass when the entire building would lose water supply very frequently. That's because there was "water disruptions sir". But the real reason was because they refused to fill the gigantic tanks on the roof when there wasn't water disruption. The tanks that were installed for just that purpose.

And my grumpy old ass complained during those rolling blackouts when the backup generators weren't being started because "the guards don't know how to start them sir". That was actually true but it was only because they were out of fuel and / or the batteries were dead. (The guards told me). "everything's not perfect like in your place sir".

Anyhow, the only way to find a place there (besides AirBnb or the like) is you have to go through one of the only two private managers that hang around there. They don't have an official office, they just hang around the clubhouse if they are on site. And I don't think they work for a company, they're independent. I guess the owners who want to rent their place just know who they are. These managers also put the units on Facebook and Airbnb sometimes.

Anyway, all that is just to preface that it looks like one of them stole my deposit. 25K, US$500. I'm Long gone out of the country but have had 20 excuses why it will be Friday sir, or next Tuesday sir, starting with I have to wait for the Davao Light bill. I've seen pictures of her father in bed; her daughter in bed; there was a mysterious failed Bank transfer; her bank collected her money, etc. She left my GF sitting there waiting 2x on the day it was supposed to happen, after she made a special trip across town. Now I'm supposedly waiting for some Filipino kid who lives there, for her parents to pay her rent so that she can steal that and give it to me. That's only been two weeks. Haha. Its been 2 months plus all in all.

I've been understanding and patient, polite, and non-threatening. But I'm starting to get a bit pissed off, especially now that my texts and calls are being ignored.

What you guys think? Is this just mai pen lai shit that I need to write off? Or should I report her to the office that don't like me anyway, won't get her fired, won't get my money back, and only make me the bad one. And probably blacklisted from ever renting there again?

In fact Recently the mods saw right through your baseless rants and gave you a written warning and deleted many of your recent posts for meaningless pointless posting and trying to discourage other members from posting their true Angeles findings, seems you have learned nothing and still continue with your agenda to discredit other members.

Now lets get on to what exactly is happening in Angeles over the last week from those that were actually out in Angeles so those that are at home watching reruns of trike patrol for their sexual pleasures will know the latest.

Heavy heavy rain, soon as it stops it starts again.

The town is very quiet for westerners, Koreans outnumber them by over 20-1 and as most are reporting are the new kings in town.

Lollipop bar, geckos bar, champagne 1 bar, Vikings bar, very quiet for both girl numbers and punters, out of the 4 bars visited we saw 1 girl that was maybe ok looking and fairly slim, mostly the bars had a mix of oldies, fatties and plain janes,1 drink in each and we headed for the exits.

Q bar, Avalon bar, Atlantis bar, monsoon bar, busy last weekend with Asians, mostly Koreans and Japanese guys with a few Chinese in the mix, our drinks 150 pesos to 180 pesos, girlie drinks 350 peso across the board, barfines 5,000 peso, many drinks only girls, many Asian only girls, westerners non existent in these bars as the westerners know the girls will not give them any attention at all in these bars.

As far as Asians getting the only girls that are a bit young, a bit pretty and a bit slim then that's all I see on the town, westerners, especially old westerners can only get laid by the girls the Asians don't want in the western bars is what I and my many drinking pals see on the streets and bars of Angeles.

Yes that does not sit well with a few of the die hard western members who private message each other in order to band together to throw doubt on what some are honestly reporting, why, vested interests and money comes to mind.

For those in doubt as to the truth of what's happening in Angeles and maybe cannot visit Angeles at this time then many are filming Angeles, take a look for yourselves, what you will see is a shortage of westerners, many many Asians and of course the pretty girls that will actually barfine on the Asian guys arms, no need for anyone in doubt to guess, its all there to see.
