I've has taxis asking me for an advance payment, stop on the way to the border and get gas. I didn't think anything of it. Probably the same if a Uber had to get gas.
It was 50 pesos. I guess I would be insulted if I was paying $50 USD. I set my expectations to coincide with the amount of money I pay I guess.
I must not be understanding something about this discussion. If my uber driver winds up being low on fuel, why would I raise a hissyfit about him or her pulling into a gas station and buying gas?
I would not prefer to run out.When do you ever understand anything, troll?
The problem is he knew very well he had an empty tank before he accepted a trip. That's his responsibility to have his car fully ready for the next passenger, and that includes having enough fuel. I'm paying him to get me to the hot chicas and cold beer as directly and quickly as possible. I'm not paying him to stop and put gas, slowing me down, something he should've done before he made himself available on the app.
What I'm not understanding is why you smd spend every second of your sad life being an annoying troll on a Tijuana monger board, when you don't even monger and you don't even go to Tijuana.

(he said he lent him the money, and the driver was grateful and repaid it.) Sometimes people lack the cash necessary just to get to work.

I got to rant about these uber drivers stopping to pump gas. I guess this is also a "culture" thing. And it's happened to me on several occasions so I know it wasn't just a a one-off type of coincidence. Of all the times I've taken an uber or Lyft in the US I've never had a driver pull over and put gas during the ride that I'm paying for. US drivers know that if they're too much of a lazy inconsiderate a-hole to pump gas before accepting a passenger that they will lose their tip and get a low rating. But in Mexico I guess they see things differently. I know what they're doing they're so tight with their pesos they wait until they have a paying customer to actually go and buy fuel. It's such an ass backwards mentality, and in the US would be considered a total dick move, but it seems to be accepted practice in Tijuana.

The other time I got cursed out for refusing to take a $10 ride to HK. So getting gas is a minor offense.

Being more 'stuck' in TH, I've made it a mid-trip ritual to do nothing drink or lady related, I start the day at the Orphanage there (which is somewhat impressive), and make a sizable donation from my own 4 and from what friends give that know I'm going and pitch in.
Then I get on the scooter and head as far from town as I can to go see something new every trip. A day or two out of 'town' seeing natural smiles outside of a bar or gogo does wonders.

It's the liberals here they don't really want police around or jails etc. Everybody has there stuff stolen in San Diego frequently its normal. In a lot of ways going to Tijuana is like a cleansing vacation. If you compare the people staying in revolucion hotels vs San Diego hotels, there's no comparison. The Tijuana people are cleaner, more normal, mentally healthier, more respectful, not smoking cigarettes and weed constantly.

The store is right at the pedestrian entrance to the US on the right side of the walkway. Entrance: "Ped east" across the trolley station in San Ysidro. Before Covid, the store was open until 9 PM or 10 PM? As I remember. After the store closes, the window is open all night, but they don't have all kinds of alcohol. The store has a large selection of tequila, brandy, vodka etc. At lower prices than in the US and you can ask for advice. The regulations allow you to bring only 1 liter of alcohol to the USA.

Norte is Kentucky Derby liquor on Third and Madero. They have good stuff. They are open 24 hours but raise the prices between 9 pm and 9 am.

Ultimately only your company can answer this question, and you're going to have to decide which you are more worried about: showing up in Mexico, being unable to work, and having to call and fix it, or talking to your company about it.

So yes, they will likely know your location.
That said, there are three things to note or consider:
1) The above mentioned incident was only revealed because of an active fraud investigation within the company. Had the investigation not occurred, possibly no one is actively monitoring (nor cares about) your login location, assuming it was mostly within California.
2) If I'm going on vacation overseas, I wouldn't even bother telling them that I'm bringing my laptop along to put in a few hours and / or check work emails periodically. I don't think they would care. They want you to work as much as possible. Of course, this would only be temporarily.
3) What is the company's attitude towards long-term work remotely outside of the country? This isn't an easy question to answer without openly discussing with them. There are possible tax reporting implications from a compliance standpoint.

You can talk as much tech as you want but it still requires people to investigate infosec violations to lock people down on their story vs seeing something you didn't consider as an employer for the first time in their EEOC charge, and a seemingly endless sea of term approvers depending on the subject employee's level. You work in tech and most of the tech guys I know abhor HR and lawyers, but they are and will always be necessary evils. You almost have to be perfect as an employer to avoid paying out some settlement money in the fucked up cesspool of California, which has the savviest workforce in the world when it comes to complaints against employers.
