Also, most cabbies work for the cartel. They are all paid to watch and inform. That doesn't mean you are going to get robbed (very very unlikely) , but it does mean that they could kidnap you if they wanted to.
Here's a tip I was given about the police, which worked. If you get stopped by the cops, don't say one single word in Spanish. Speak only English. They will leave you alone.
One night I was driving away from Minas Candy Girls on 16 de Septiembre. I was heading east, which means you either have to go north or south, then cut back east because 16 de Septiembre only goes west. I went south and turned east on a street before hitting Vicente Guerrero, figuring I would check the MP map for places I've never been. Well, the cops pulled me over and asked if I was drinking. Keep in mind that in Mexico, there is no. 08 BAC rule. The rule is a single drink and you can't drive. This obviously just gives the cops all sort of license. Anyway, I said no, absolutely not. They asked what I was doing in Mexico, and I said I was visiting on business (a lie). They asked why I was on this street, and I said that "16th of September" is one way, so I'm just trying to get back a few blocks so I can get back on "Triumph of the Republic" (a half-lie). I was delayed about 90 seconds, the cops never touched me, never looked inside my vehicle, and never mentioned money.
On another occasion, quite recently, I was having my car fixed at a place on Triunfo de la Republica. I took a cab from there to Cordova bridge. Then that evening I took another one back. The cabbie started driving me through neighborhoods, and I loudly protested, telling him that he wasn't going to scam me, that I knew Juarez very very well, and that he wasn't taking any shortcuts or avoiding traffic, that the place was a straight shot, Las Americas to Triunfo. He made excuses, which I said weren't true, and that he was lying. All this conversation, me yelling at him from the back seat calling him a liar, was happening as we were driving. I almost jumped out of the car at one point because I knew this cabbie was crooked and could do anything he wanted to. Well, all my protesting finally got us back on track. He almost drove past the place and into a neighborhood, but he slowed down for traffic and I opened the car door, so he hit the breaks. I instantly got out of the cab. He told me I owed him "fifteen" the first English word spoken during this entire time. 15 dollars would have been three times what I paid that morning to go from the mechanic to the bridge, and 15 pesos would have been about 1/4 of what I paid that morning. He opened the door to speaking English, and I walked through it, cussing him out in English. I told him I wasn't paying him 15 dollars for his bullshit ride through two neighborhoods, and to get the fuck out of there or I would call the police. I walked away and he drove away and that was that.
Now, listen. 95% sure he didn't want to kidnap me (although I was coming from work and was wearing a nice suit). All he wanted to do was disorient me and keep driving, so he could justify a high fare. But it is ABSOLUTELY TRUE that many, many (probably most) cabbies in Juarez work for the cartel as informants. Walking away from a cabbie who tries to rob you is a lot easier than walking away from a police officer, but in my experience the cabbie is far more likely to try to rob you. I rarely take cabs in Juarez, but the few times I have done so have given me multiple bad experiences. I drive every day in Juarez and have never once had a bad experience with the police.

These problems arise from walking around on the streets looking for action, driving your own car, or wearing clothes that make you stand out like you might be a fat cat American. I have also never heard anyone state with such confidence that they all work for the cartel. I have met a few cabbies, and I have taken cabs in Juarez for the last 6 years, that have lied to me to get me to go to an MP or the Pink Lady where they would get a commission, but kidnapping and robbery? It's sure possible, but does it happen enough to really change the way you get around in Juarez. I would like to know if there are any other mongers reading this that agree with these statements about cabbies being a kidnapping or robbery threat. It runs counter to everything I have heard or experienced personally.

It will probably head off any creative routes if the price is set and you know how to get there. I think its also be a good idea to dress down as much as possible. Macho Mexicanos think that is totally gay and so only chicas wear shorts. You don't have to impress the ladies with your cool style to get laid, and you sure don't want to attract attention of any kind.

Do not use the taxis that are in Juarez ave, they know you are foreigner and they will cost you more, walk a little bit to V Guerrero or near or til the railway, that will be better for you guys, I'm local I know how they work

I arrived about 9pm on a Monday and if there are massage places open that late, I don' t know them. Both Felinas and the other close one on Jose Borunda were closed. I wasn' t impressed with the talent at El Zar and declined an offer to go upstairs for servicio at 400MN. Just pay a tribute to the dang cops they get paid every two weeks $2, 300 pesos or $191 dlls every two weeks for a 6 day work week. If you where on the cops shoes you would shake down gringos who are contributing to crime because you are patronizing prostitution which is part of organized crime, Juarez is NOT a tourist town so when a cop sees you he will automatically suspect you are here for prostitution and hence committing an indirect crime, so please dicks don't feel like victims, when you are contributing to organized crime in Juarez.

Where should I cross?
I don't know which border crossing is better. I have only crossed at the Santa Fe Bridge. To get to the Santa Fe Bridge take Santa Fe Street south, you will see a couple of parking lots on the street. Pretty easy and straight forward.
What should I pay the Cabbies?
As you enter Mexico, the closer to the border the more the Cabbies want to charge you. The last time I was in Juarez I believe the Cabbies closest to the border wanted $10 to take me to Villa Manport Hotel which happens to be near two MPs. Instead, I walked up Juarez St. And found a cabbie near the Cathedral in front of the plaza for $7. In any case, don't tell them you want to go to a MP, the cabbie will see dollar signs and offer to take you on a tour, and offer to wait for you at the MP for a return trip. I don't want any of those services.
Taking a cab to any MP will trigger a large commission for cabbie. If the MP normally cost $40 then it will cost you $60. You can of course get dropped off near the MP and walk in yourself to avoid the kickback.
Recommendations for MP's?
I haven't been to any MPs in a long time so I can't recommend any. MP's are always hit or miss. Lots of turnaround at these places and you never know what you are going to get when it comes to service. I would suggest MP El Encanto and MP Sirena because they are easy to get to by bus.

the tragic mystery behind the discovery of women's remains in the valley of juárez last year may have been solved, mexican authorities said tuesday.
the chihuahua state prosecutors office said that investigators have arrested a dozen alleged members of a juárez ring accused of killing 11 young women who had been forced into prostitution, killed and then dumped in the desert.
the women had been reported missing by their families in 2009 and 2010, and their remains were found last year, officials said.
prosecutors said 10 men and two women will be charged with [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908) and homicide. investigators suspect that the deaths of two other women could also be linked to the ring.
the arrests occurred monday and tuesday during an operation by the state prosecutor's agency focusing on women's murders.
those arrested include the owners of a modeling agency, a clothing store and a grocery store who are accused of luring young women with job offers. others would then allegedly force the women into prostitution and drug sales in downtown juárez.

camilo del real buendia, the owner of a modeling agency who would allegedly lure women ages 15 to 20 with promises of jobs in commercials and advertising.
victor chavira garcía was the owner of el caporal clothing store and allegedly lured women with job offers.
manuel vital anguiano would hire **** girls to work at his grocery store in the 200 block of juan mata ortiz street. he would then "recommend" the women for other jobs and identify them to abductors.
"these establishments were the 'hook' for the ring to offer work to young women and once they obtained the necessary information from the employment application é other people would pressure them (the women) or deprive them of their liberty with the objective of obligating them to prostitute themselves, consume and / or sell drugs," a news release stated.
authorities said the women were allegedly held at the verde hotel in downtown juárez.
the hotel's manager, esperanza castillo saldaña, was among the people arrested.
prosecutors said that some members of the ring were in charge of abducting the women and transporting them to houses and hotel rooms to meet clients.
other ring members kept watch on the women and made sure they did not stray more than a block from the hotel.
if the women came up short on money or were no longer useful, they were killed, officials said.
investigators think the group could also be linked to the deaths of jusalet alejandra de la cruz lucio. 19, and nancy gómez farías. 16, whose bodies were found wrapped in a green sheet of plastic in juárez in august 2011.
one of the teenagers had been stabbed several times, and the other victim appeared to have been severely beaten.
investigators arrested josé antonio contreras, alias "el kojac," in connection with those slayings.
the bodies of the women were found in january 2012 in the desert in the valley of juárez, southeast of juárez across the border from the fort hancock area.
it was among the most recent "femicides" cases in juárez, where hundreds of women have been slain since the early 1990s.

A Mp girl will never ever admit to anything as they are trained on what they can say. That's all you need gang, stick with it and you can get through these in a breeze. Also, I met a guy yesterday in El Paso. He's an American citizen, living in Juarez. He's about 30 to 33 years old years old, I would guess. His wife works in bar in Juarez. We've talked about this bar before in this website. To protect his identity, and his wife's identity, I won't mention the name of this bar. The regular members here would be aware of this bar.

New addition to the MP map (don't know if anyone works on it, but here it is). There is a new MP (or at least new to me, because they told me they have years on the business)! And it is right across the Zaragoza bridge. Right on the first stop sign, turn right and it is right next to a fenced parking lot. I didn't pay attention to the name when I was there but looking for it on google it might be Aries. I have been there 2 times already in the past weeks and had a couple of good experiences. Sorry, don't know the name of the new police chief. I was walking in the La Paz area yesterday, had cops on foot walk by me, was not bothered.
The DCL pass is well worth it, if one drives in Juarez weekly. It allows one to return to the USA in the fast lane, I. E, avoiding the long lines. USA cost is over $100 for about five years; but the Mexicans want over $300 per year, per car, to use their side of the fast lane. Driving in Juarez regularly, it is worth it. If you return to the USA during late afternoon, early evening hours, weekdays M-F, and you use the downtown bridge, the regular car lines are usually very short. DCL pass can also be very useful for pedestrians walking back to the USA, especially during the early daytime hours, when pedestrian lines are much longer.

Xfactors, yes I have a DCL pass. I seldom use it, though, as the passport card works almost as well if you normally return to El Paso from late afternoon to early evening. Not many USA citizens.
Return to EP at that time. The DCL pass is very valuable for American pedestrians who walk to EP during early morning hours, up until the lunch hour or early afternoon. In your case, I doubt it.
Would be worth the effort to get one. This pass is well worth it, however, for USA citizens who frequently drive back and forth to Juarez.
Visited beautiful Juarez this afternoon, had lunch with a friend at the Villa del Mar on Francisco Villa. Upon walking back to EP on Av. Juarez, passed by six of Juarez's finest "cops." As I posted.
Previously, am noticing more of these fine, uniformed individuals walking around and driving their pick ups. There are a few SWs, who, on occasion, walk around the area of Av. Juarez very close.

The Sentri card is issued to you once your application is approved and you go through an interview process at the Zaragoza bridge. Whole process took me 3 months. The Sentri card allows you to cross rapidly at the port of entries between US and Mexico. You're basically pre-screened and you avoid all the B. S. That CBP puts you through. In addition, you can register a vehicle for use at the DCL lane on Lerdo / Stanton. If all you're going to be doing is crossing on foot, then it's probably not worth it to get your vehicle registered. Because it's expensive. In that case, just get a Passport card. You can cross quickly at the pedestrian line for USA Citizens (sometimes there is a line. I. E, anchor babies. LOL).
Anyway, I would say this. Quickly crossing back into the USA in your own car is about the best way to go. You can drive all over Jrz from place to place (yes, people in Jrz drive like shit) , no taxi to deal with, no street cops to shake you down (though, you run the risk of getting stopped by the "Transitos" traffic cops). It costs about $150 for the CBP application and then about $350 per year To the Mex. Fed Gov't (it's basically a pre-paid toll, paid a year in advance) for the privilege of using their side of the bridge. For me it's worth it as I got other business affairs going on in J-Town. I cross about 3-4 times per week. I'm treated like a diplomat, no waiting on the bridge for Heynow. My advice is. Buy a cheap shitty car from a shady lot on Alameda (something you can afford to lose if something happens) , then cross whenever you want and bang all the chicas in sight, then your dick will fall off. The downside of all this is that now they check cars going into Mexico. Sometimes I wait 30. 40 minutes just to cross in. It's really fucked up and I wish CBP would step the fuck off on this bullshit.

ThanksIf you walk across Stanton St. Bridge, you can catch a cab in that location for about $6 to Villa Manport hotel, which is across the street from Sirenas. Tell cabby you're meeting friend at hotel. After he drops you off, just walk across street to Sirenas. Ask cabbie how much BEFORE you get in cab, so he won't burn you when he drops you off. Don't have cabbie take you directly to MP, or the price will go way up, for his commission.

Thanks all for your reports. I moved to northern New Mexico recently. Since I was picking a relative at the Albuquerque airport in Thanksgiving I decided to make it all the way to Juarez and pick my relative up on my way back. I did not make it to the border until 9PM. Due to the reports here I was very apprehensive of crossing at that time. I figured I might not get a chance anytime soon so off I went. Have engaged in the hobby in Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and heaven on earth, Colombia. Have tried the massage houses, bars, and streetwalking scenes. I prefer the latter two than the former. That said, I went out to bar alley where Kentucky, Don Julio, and Yankee bars and the Condesa Hotel are on. Sadly, I have no saucy encounter to report since the only one that suited my fancy was taken. Anyway, the purpose of the report was to inform of the condition of the street the night before Thanksgiving. First, I did not see a single member of "Juarez finest." As a matter of fact I did not even see a patrol car in the streets all the time I drove around town. As for cholos, unless I could not identify them, there were none. The only people around were the streetwalkers, cabbies, and vendors. I stayed out until passed 1:00 AM without incident.

Sirenas looks like closed from outside, but they are actually open if you knock on the door. Like Clydesdale mentioned, they have a very good line up. 5 girls from 5-7. I picked a 7. Friday night, an American friend of mine was smoking a cigarette outside the Club 15 bar on Av. Juarez when two cops came up to him and asked,"How many beers have you had?" He told them three, which was a mistake, as they then started to give him a bad time. He was saved, however, when a well known bar patron he knows saw what was going on and told the cops to leave "mi novio" alone. The cops then handed back his drivers licence and told him to enjoy his day. My hunch is these cops will soon be going back to their former ways. Hope I'm wrong.

But I never buy pesos in Juarez, because often times they will try to rip Americans off, or, as Coyote 79 found out, they want to only give you 500 peso notes. (Oh, the policia love those 500 peso notes as well)
The solution is to go to Valuta, or Melek, in El Paso, and buy pesos there. The cashiers are more courteous and helpful in Valuta, so I try to buy there. And they will give you pesos in the denominations that YOU want.

Would be interested to know, Latin Bound, what countries you have enjoyed most for mongering, and what countries you've enjoyed least in your travels? One friend of mine thought Costa Rica was just super, he visited there nine times. A lawyer friend of mine, a forum member who lives on the east coast, swears by Argentina. Juarez still has a lot to offer, but one has to keep "both eyes open wide."As I stated originally, heaven on earth to me is Colombia, especially Medellin. The areas of "tolerancia" are just awesome. In Medellin there is the area called El Raudal in which there are numerous bars and motels and a big variety of street walkers. And not the run down kind either. As for the least, I would have to say Panama. It is expensive, especially if you consider that just across the border is Colombia. I did enjoy the area around the Blue Marlin in Costa Rica. In Ecuador, even the most expensive places are cheap. Nevetheless, the service is not as good.

In addition to buying 50, 100, and 200 peso bills at Valuta, I also recommend buying the 20 peso bills, at least a few of them. Let's say you want to give someone a small tip, like I did at a restaurant the other night, the 20 peso bills are handy. If you want.
To buy an inexpensive item, like a newspaper, cookies, etc, they come in handy. There are times I don't want to pull out a 100, or even a 50 peso bill, and a 20 works nicely. Last, but certainly not least, let's say you're walking down a Juarez street and get.
Stopped by one of Juarez's finest policias. Having 20 peso bills visible in your wallet, (and bigger bills hidden in between pictures, business cards, etc.) , has almost always, at least for me, helped to make the cop think that "this individual just isn't carrying.
Much cash." The cops have never found my bigger bills safely tucked away.
