Gulf cartel sees power slipping

WASHINGTON - Fugitive drug kingpin Joaquin "EL Chapo" Guzman appears to be winning a bloody battle with the rival Gulf cartel for control of the Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo and the lucrative smuggling corridor into Texas, U.S. and Mexican officials say.

Authorities say this development means that the rampant violence along the U.S.-Mexico border will likely worsen next year as key criminals remain loose and new paramilitary groups working for Guzman's Sinaloa cartel - Los Numeros and Los Negros - assume a larger role in the drug war.

"There is intelligence that Chapo Guzman has taken control of Nuevo Laredo," said Al Ortiz, acting FBI section chief of the bureau's Americas' criminal enterprise section. "It's clear that the Sinaloa Cartel is now the dominant cartel throughout Mexico. We should be more concerned about Chapo and his people."

Ortiz's comments provide the broadest explanation to date of the cartel's ambitions and strategy. He cautioned that the situation remained fluid and could change again. But his conclusion that the Sinaloa cartel had gained the upper hand over the Gulf cartel and its enforcement arm, a paramilitary group known as the Zetas, was supported by a senior Mexican intelligence official.

To bolster their position, the Zetas have been trying to recruit members of a Guatemalan special forces unit, the Kaibiles, the Mexican official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Seven alleged members of the group were arrested in September in the southern state of Chiapas.

"The Zetas, no doubt, remain important players," the official said. "But their influence is on the decline and that's why they're recruiting Kaibiles."
Meanwhile, border violence continues.

Ortiz warned that the U.S.-Mexico border area remains one of the most dangerous anywhere in the Americas.

"These groups now have tactical abilities and SWAT team capabilities that make them dangerous players, more so than other organized groups in the Western Hemisphere," Ortiz said. "They're simply very deadly."

Last month, Chris Swecker, the FBI's assistant director for the criminal investigative division, told House Judiciary subcommittees that the Zetas and other paramilitary groups pose "a serious threat to public safety on both sides of the border."

"We have documented kidnappings and forays that go across the border into the U.S. part, where in one case they've even attempted to kidnap and kill a U.S. law enforcement officer, a Laredo police officer," Swecker said. "They're well-financed and well-equipped."

Over the summer, two Arizona Border Patrol agents were shot and wounded by suspected drug smugglers believed to have been deserters from the Mexican military, according to U.S. intelligence reports.

Recently, Mexican authorities seized an arsenal of guns and small explosives in a house in Nuevo Laredo, along with fake Mexican army and federal police uniforms, night-vision goggles, military-style boots, radio equipment, helmets, handcuffs, tear gas and a baseball cap with "DEA" emblazoned across the front - the initials of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, according to Mexico's attorney general's office.

The Mexican military, which increased its presence in Nuevo Laredo last June, is expected to reduce its forces there next month, the U.S. investigator said, and that also could lead to an increase in violence.

More than 170 people have been killed this year in Nuevo Laredo, and hundreds more have been killed in drug-related violence nationwide as part of a gangland struggle for billion-dollar drug-smuggling routes, authorities say.

As military forces have clamped down on hot spots such as Nuevo Laredo, violence has surged in places in the Mexican interior and elsewhere along the U.S.-Mexico border.

"It's like the Pillsbury dough boy," said a senior U.S. official in Mexico City. "You poke in one area and he expands in the other."

A video sent in October to The Dallas Morning News provided a window on the violence and the shadowy world of the drug cartels. On the video, four bound and bruised suspected Zeta hit men recount in chilling detail how they kidnapped, tortured and killed rivals of the Gulf cartel. At the end of the video, one of the men is executed, shot in the head by a person standing off-camera.

Authorities on both sides of the border said the man behind the interrogation, torture and killing is Edgar Valdez-Villarreal, also known as La Barbie, a 32-year-old American citizen from Laredo. Valdez was seeking revenge for the earlier killing of his brother, authorities said. U.S. and Mexican authorities in 2003 issued a warrant for his arrest on cocaine smuggling charges.

Ortiz, who describes cooperation with Mexican authorities as "excellent" and "unprecedented," described Valdez as a ruthless trafficker of the Sinaloa cartel. His main rival from the Gulf cartel is Humberto Lazcano Lazcano, who's just as rash and ruthless, Ortiz said. Mexican authorities have charged Lazcano with drug trafficking, and in 2003 his name appeared on a poster of the most wanted Zetas in Mexico.

Ortiz said both men are largely responsible for the violence unleashed along the border, particularly in the Nuevo Laredo area.

"Until La Barbie and Lazcano are arrested, the violence will continue," he added. "These two men are the main combatants. They are the generals. And there are others. But until they are arrested, there will be a lot more blood along the border. The blood war will continue."

Dont beleive Laredo is improving. I have spent the last two days there, and only one word describes BT-Laredo. DEAD!!!

The pickens are slim and alot of the clubs have closed there doors.

All I can say is that I talked to a man who is scared that Zetas eventually will know that he was selling drugs that were provided by Chapo guys. Police was talking to him, but it looks like they don't know about his drug connection. (Police in Laredo is mostly on Zetas payroll)

Week ago was killed a young girl (and her boyfriend) selling drugs in Herradura - she was selling Chapo stuff. Her friend told me that all Chapo guys run away. He said: "all young guys in Herradura that you see now, are Zetas. Very young 16 - 18...

It may be only tactical move. Chapo controls 16 centers in Mexico, including Mexico City.

I have recently discovered the scene in Monterrey, Mexico. Let me tell you, if you are planning to go to NL for an overnight stay, drive the extra 2 1/2 hours and go to monterrey. Monterry is better for hobbying than NL even in the best of times. Check out the Monterrey board.

I haven't been to BT in about 8 months. I've found plenty of action in San Antonio for around the same price but I miss the "atmosphere". Currently Nuevo Laredo is "off limites" to the military (I'm an activated Reservist) but I will be out soon. I have stayed within the Zona several times and I was wondering if either of the two "hotels" were still open or if any rooms are available for all night. I sometimes like to take a break between girls and I also drive into the zona and I do not want to leave at night because of the high risk of a shake down. I speak only a few words of Spanish and have driven at least 10-15 times without being hasseled by the locals. Several times I stayed at local hotels and a few times within the compound. When I plan to drive back across the border (to the US side) at night I make sure I don't drink much and leave before midnight. I hope my luck keeps up once I start returning.There is nothing in the Zona Putas worth staying at IMHO. Just down the road by the bus station is a very nice hotel for about $25 a night. I stay there often. Most of the zone is closed, a year ago you could get a non-provider room at the acropolis for about $50 week, hot water and AC included. I as surprised how far BT has fell since the troubles started down there.

I will be back in Nuevo Laredo this Monday. I will look closer this time around for ya.

My experience with pharms in TJ is that it's best to get the Dr.'s prescription (most pharms will recommend a local Dr. or two). My Dr. charges $30 for the script. She keeps a copy, one goes to the pharmacy, and a third is for you in case LE checks, you've obtained them legally (though they'll still probably try to shake you down). I asked US customs and they told me that anything that was prescribed down there and was a legal script up here could be brought across. Think about if. If you're having dental or some other work done down there our guys can't very well deny you the medications that the Dr. prescribed for your health (though they limit the quantities that you can bring back - I think it's a 3 month supply).

Problem with using "Friendly Pharmacies" are that they charge the $30 premium that you would be paying to the Dr. (so you may eve be paying more). Then you're walking around south of the border with illegal drugs and then you're probably bringing them back illegally. Plus it generally takes less time and effort to go the legit route than to find "Friendly Pharmacies".

Went to BT the sunday before X-mas. For the most part, it sucked! Many of the girls were nasty with their attitudes and looks. There were also some trannies hangin' out in the middle by the top of the hill. They were f****n' annoying and were more aggressive than the real girls. There are obviously tons of pharmacies in NL. One "pharm" I have good luck with is "Medico General", it's a couple of blocks up from you cross the border at Guerrero. Couple of blocks up, pass the park and on the left. Can't remember the intersection. You walk in to the lobby under the big sign, someone will greet you and take you into a private room where you will be handed a laminated MENU with every drug that Mexico has that is legal to take back across the border that you would ever want. Always declare your drugs to Customs - worst case if you declare is they take them away and lecture you for a minute about how you buying the blue vitamin in MX is funding Al Qaeda.

Current U.S. Customs rule is that you can take 50 dosage units across WITHOUT a dr's prescription. DO NOT open the container, and if it has more than 50 doses in it, or is illegal in USA(rohypnol, diet pills), Customs will take it away from you. And ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS barter with the guys like Medico General - they get these drugs WAY cheaper than you(look on the box they bring back from the pharmacia at the "precio maximo" - maximum price. It is of course written in pesos. So for example, a bottle of 30 2mg xanax(tafil in Mexico) has a maximum hypothetical sell price of lets say $500 pesos(roughly $50). The guy selling you that bottle paid way less than $50, but is gonna ask you for $100. Never pay their first or "menu" price. Remember, it's a market-driven economy, and one half of that market is you! Don't hesitate to ask for what you consider a ridiculous, lowball price. This guy would sell these to you for 100 times what he paid if he could(just like Walgreens or anywhere else in the good 'ol U.S. of A.). Haggking out the deal is half the fun. If you walk into Benavides pharmacia or any other large chain and ask hom much for one 100mg Viagra, it's $15 - they're a legit pharmacia and they ARE NOT coming down on that price. Do not even waste time trying to barter with them, you'll just end up looking like a dumbass. For the law regarding bringing 50 pills across the border don't trust me, here's the actual language from the Customs website as of 2/10/06:

U.S. residents entering the United States at international land borders, who are carrying a validly obtained controlled substance (other than narcotics such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or LSD), are subject to certain additional requirements. If a U.S. resident wants to bring in a controlled substance (other than narcotics such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or LSD) but does not have a prescription for the substance issued by a U.S.-licensed practitioner (e.g., physician, dentist, etc.) who is registered with, and authorized by, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to prescribe the medication, the individual may not import more than 50 dosage units of the medication into the United States. If the U.S. resident has a prescription for the controlled substance issued by a DEA registrant, more than 50 dosage units may be imported by that person, provided all other legal requirements are met.

LexWell, I would suggest that you make sure that you go with someone. I would personally not mind going at all, and know like 2 girls from BT's that would leave in a heart beat if we paid the bar fee of 50 bucks. Outside of maybe some drinks, you could have them all night for no cost.

Business has obviously gone down in La Zona. I visited Saturday February 11th and it was dead. All my amigas complain about the business. I hear many have gone to Del Rio/Acun~a, where there is more business and the girls can charge more. As for me, I'm getting bargains (although I doubt the quality of girls one can get with drinks only, as posted earlier). I made a deal with a good quality girl from Papagayos for $300 for an entire weekend. She waits for me Friday night at the house I rent and stays until around noon then returns around 9pm Saturday night to stay until noon on Sunday (unlimited sex throughout). She even helps me clean up the place (washing dishes, throwing out trash) before I leave. I don't think I could have gotten this deal if business was good.

Meanwhile, about mid-way on the back street (across from Danash) I have a favorite door-girl named Andrea. She's short, sexy and gives a good bang for $20. She's from Veracruz and very hot.

As for Danash and architecture, I hear the reason so much money is spent there is because it's owned by the drug cartel. Your prior post implied that any random rube with some charm and a few drinks could make out like a bandit. You are obviously a veteran and invest a lot of time and effort into your projects to get the great results you report. I likewise know the real names, do not pay bar fees and have met the families of my favorite girls. I think it's great and more power to you.

I guess we differ only in that I feel it only fair to pay a fair price for services rendered. Your post seems to encourage taking advantage of these girls. When I had financial difficulties, I did have one amiga that would come see me after working at Papagayo's and only accept $20 for taxi or gas. I am doing quite well now and would feel uncomfortable trying to get away with paying nothing (even if I did buy all the drinks), as I understand the dire circumstances that have them working where they do. Most of the women I know have children to support. I do get a significant discount and special priviledges (not offered to clients or only offered to clients at a premium) because of the relationship we have established. Another nice benefit is a bit more exclusivity (the woman I am seeing now hasn't worked in months because she does not need more than what I give her). [Before anyone questions my certainty, let me just say that I have my zona spies that keep me well informed on who does and does not work.]

However, I also do not encourage over-paying and so my boycott of Danash. I think top dollar for going to the room should be $80 total (including room fee) and $200 total for unlimited sex all night long (+$40 if you have to pay the bar fee). It was a slow night. Met a few new girls from Monterrey. From my disscussions majority of girls had been going to Acuna. There were few door girls available. Sounds like I'll be going down on tuesday for the party. I hope that rooms for the night can still be found. Anyone else going to visit? I went to boystown on the third of March and was really let down by the lack of girls and the increase in scams. The ride from the border is still ten dollars with any taxi. Once in boystown watch your money. Papagayo's is still good but lacked anything worth hitting. I had one women old enough to be my grandmother sit down next to me. After a beer I left and headed over to 123 casino to find it closed. Casino always had an excellent choice of girls that would do lap dances if you bought them a drink. I then went looking for door girls and walked around the the block. Most doors were closed and the few girls left did not intrest me much. Now he has no change. I feel a scam coming so I take back my twenty and take a good look at it. I then give him my five and left with half my beer still full. I stayed at the Star Bar for the night on Tuesday. Papa-G's had a good Mardigras party but guys far out numbered girls. There were alot of trucks with TX plates but overall the place sucked. I have stayed at Star Bar several times without problems, this time it was twenty dollars for the night (12 hours) which was standard and always included as many girls as one wanted provided it was one at a time. On this visit, they wanted an extra $5 for the first girl, then they uped that to ten. I will never stay at that shit hole again the owner is an asshole and has no business since at all. A have been to BT many times but it will be at least 6 months before I even consider going again. Since my visit on Tuesday I think two or three cops have been killed along with a few other people. I will not sit here and say that you should not go because it is too dangerous, but I will sit here and say that if you are not an old veteran of NL, then I would suggest you play it safe and focus on the local bars near the borders.

I dont know the names of them, because I am pretty tipsy half the time I am there, but they are really close to the border, and when you include the distance factor, if is just plain safe. Make it even safer by grabbing a hotel room right around the block for 35 dollars for the night. It is called Hotel Montero, just like the bar that it is near. It is actually clean and has hot water along with window units.

But just have fun bro, and be aware that you are in a city where there is a drug war going on right now.

Montera and Heradura, among others, are bars downtown, very close to the border, both, most of the time, will have girls available. These are independent girls, don't work for bar, just come in to pick up guys.

Personally I feel safer in BT. A guy could get caught in a crossfire anywhere, not likely, but it could happen. Prolly more likely downtown than in BT.
Nowhere is completely 100% safe, not even your own home town.

I have been to Boystown about 6 times in the last 3 years. The thrill has declined with each visit. I stayed at budget rate motel in the US, parked at the bridge, took a cab to the zone. I was dissappointed my last two visits. The drive from Houston has become more of a burden than adventure.
I have never tried the downtown district, but am intrigued. I am considering going this weekend and staying at a hotel near the bridge in Mexico. I could so use some Latina lovin' 8-)
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Fiesta motel, just up the street a block or 2 from Heradura Bar, I have stayed there, just get a room for 2 and they don't care who you bring up.
As BabyHuey posted, if you don't see what you like, ask a waiter in the Heradura. At times the Heradura is hopping, other times dead.
There are touts that will ask you if you want a girl, be careful with them, they will get you anythng for a fee.
Once while walking a girl up to my room I saw 2 street girls, very nice street girls too, better then what I was walking to my room, but I was committed.

I did keep to myself and make sure I was aware of shady dudes walking my way. I have even asked some of the girls down there about the area, and have heard the same thing more then once. But based off of my own experience along with certain members in my own family that have mixed with the wrong groups in NL as well as the decent members of my family that work and live in NL/Laredo, I can definitly not agree with BT being safer then Downtown.

I would suggest anyone going for the first time to go with the majority of what is writtin here on the board. I also stress that as long as you follow the simple rules of being courteous and keeping to yourself, with the exception of chicas, you are extremely safe and will have a really really good time.

Well I've been to NL Boystown a few times but this is my first posting!--I was wondering if any of you pro-mongers know if BTNL is slow during the weekend of Friday April 7thru Palm Sunday the 9th? I remember going years ago and it was really dead the weekend of Easter.I still found a sweetie at Papas, but I met her in the parking lot outside. I think she lived there!The Donkey was on vacation!!! With all this talk of being afraid of going down there it kinda adds a level of excitement to the danger.

I remember once getting dragged off to the jail cell for taking a picture of the taco stand near the taxis!!! They had me in there for more than an hour and I was really scared. The guards took my wallet(fined me$100)and left me with $15 which gave me enough money to have some tacos and buy one beer. I hid my cab fare back to the bridge in a money belt. Its weird even after that experience i feel this urge to go down there. i play music and I am around crazy places all the time but NLBT still is an exoctic atmosphere . From texas to New Mexico to California, what do you think would be the next best choice to monger?/By the way I appreciate all the good advice you fellows have offered about BT and NL.

As I posted earlier, No place is 100% safe, not even your own home town.I don't like downtown at night. Normally it's Downtown in the day and BT at night.

I feel safe in BT because the cops are checking almost everyone now and I know all the scams.

I normally go to danash or club 123 to find me a Jlo but both clubs were shut down due to the owners cashin bullets . So i took the boards advice and tried papa 'gs. There were no Jlos big bootys but there were 3 salma hyaks/catherine zeta jones look alikes. Tried the first one named lilly good time in the sack cbj. After her i wanted one of the others but they were to busy because out of the 15 girls there 3 were lookers, so i said lets try so girls at the doors . They were all dogs so I left. And also I was curious do the women at BT set their own working hours. Say for example a woman from Montery that works every other weekend. I know that Asian working women are under contract. I guess what I am trying to say are the women freelancers while working in BT. As long as men buy the women drinks and pay for the room everyone is happy.

Also, most of these girls "float" between 1 to 4 main bars each evening, meaning they may mainly be at Herradura, but you will also catch them in Montera, El Rey or the other bar across the street from the Herradura (on the same side as Montera). Basically, they are chasing business just like we are strolling searching for the best selection.

I think what BabyHuey experienced is a bar owner or door guy who knows where groups of girls live or hang out. Especially in Herradura, there is a very good chance that one of these guys will run out and bring you back a very decent girl upon request. It's good for them as they are probably getting a tip from you, plus they are hitting the girl up for a tip. This is also true with some of the independent "guides" in the area. FYI, a lot of the girls live in the same building a mile or so away and since some of the guys that work at the Herradura rent rooms at the same building they always know where to look.

This is my first post but I have been lurking this board a few months.

First off, welcome to the board. Ok, the information I have is mainly for Papa's (Papagayo's) but something similar could be in place at the other clubs. No official contracts per se but girls that stay (actually sleep) in the Papa rooms are obligated to come out and at least look like they are working during the hours of operation. It makes sense, this way they work for the free room and board (they do not have to pay for the food served in the kitchen) and opens up the rooms for use by all us calientes. Girls living outside the club can make their own hours. The only exception is the party nights (Carnaval, Dies y Seis and Christmas Posada) when ALL girls must attend or be penalized a fee for non-attendance (I believe $300) the next time they come in to work.

For Papa's, the club expects an exit fee ANYTIME a client (husband/official boyfriends are not clients and therefore the exception) sees a girl outside of the club (so don't be bragging in the club that you saw a girl during off-hours, save that for your buddies outside the club). Of course, seeing girls that live outside of the club it is much easier to avoid paying the exit fee but I have had friends that found ingenious ways to get around the fee with girls staying in the club. Hope this information helps.

I've been to NL probably 20 times, but have never found really good places at which to eat on either side of the border. I have been to Danny's on TX side, but have twice been treated badly as a gringo, no shit. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Usually I drive over but this time I think I'll park and walk over. Then stop by the shoe shine stand and find out about any local talent. Then head to BT. Should be going around May 15 and 16.

Unfortunately, I cannot give you a solid update on recent action as I have only been down here in NL about 7 total days (without playtime) in the past 2 months. I can say that Wednesday was always a popular night.

Hopefully BT is starting to pick up again. I also heard there is a new club near downtown called Arizona that might be good. This place should be something similar to a Herradura type setup, but since I have not been to the Arizona I do not know how close it is to short time hotels, etc.

Post back with travel plans. If I am in town maybe I can pick you up at the border and show you around a bit.

Business is slow. Get there around eight or nine. Some of the door girls are leaving about 10:30 pm if they haven't had any business. I can't speak for downtown NL, because I have problems with some of the gang members in that area, so I stay out of that area.
I just get with door girls at BT. I don't go into the clubs, at BT. The new manager at Danash was killied about a month ago, after Danash reopened. It was closed for awhile, after Carman, and Autoro, the owners were killed. I'm speculating that the drug traffickers are fucking with this club. Just my guess. I could be wrong on this.
I personally think it's safe for a gringo to go to BT. Just my opinion. I also feel it's safe for a gringo to go to the NL downtown area, to search for pussy. Be careful of the tour guides in downtown area. Some of them are gang members, and may make demands from you, you're not expecting. That's what happened to me. Just ignore the tour guides in downtown area, and I think you'll be just fine.
On the beloved NL police, I think they've toned down their extorting money from the downtown gringo looking for pussy. Too much bad publicity of them doing that kind of shit. No guarantees they won't fuck with you in the downtown area, though. Try to avoid them in downtown area. In BT, the police seem to have cooled it with their bullshit shakedown of gringos, for the purposes of extorting money from them. Same thing. There has been too much publicity of them doing this kind of shit, out at BT, and it's run off a lot of business. I personally think the girls started bitching about it, complaining it was running off their business. Just my opinion. They are still sleaze bags, IMO. 123 and Danash are still closed. Tamayo had about 4 people in it and they kept the AC off so it was hotter than I could tolerate. Maribu was open but had about 2 girls and zero customers as usual. The donkey place and that annoying place next door was open but that's not my idea of a good time.

I was there also on Saturday and it was a little better at Papagayo with more flaquitas jovenes. Interestingly, I was in the elevator with a girl at the Hilton that I ended up seeing at Papagayo later that night. At the time, I thought she was a guest in the hotel.

Both nights I kept to the main street. I wandered back toward where Pullman was (It had a sign saying it was Alices or something now, I didn't go in) and was going to see what the door girl situation was but I didn't get a good vibe about the dark street two and turned back to Papas.

I miss not being able to chill and have a beer at a strip-club like place like 123 and Danash was. It also helps determine the quality of the merchandise that you don't get and other places until you're in the room.

When I was driving through NL on the road toward the bridge on the way back to the US side the other morning, I did see a banner for a strip club. Of course, I forgot its name. I might try that and some of the bars in town next time.

Spent the better part of 1999 to 2004 in and outta BT. Was in NL on 9-11 and have paid my dues to the local policia.

As far as I'm concerned Tamico, Papagayos and 123 were the only places worth going. Now that I've read thru some of the latest post's, all I can say is.....Thank god i'm in Rio DJ.

If you spend a little time around Villa Real or the Hilton, you will run into the higher class and it will eliminate any problemos with the police. Most of these chics are coming outta these areas prior to working gigs around NL, so catch their pimps and set it up, Just don't give out too much info lest they come looking for more $$ and business.

Be careful guys, that place is giving mongering a bad name.

I've been to BT a few times, but never to any of the downtown bars in Nuevo Laredo. Maybe I'll try them out this time before going to BT. Is it safe for a gringo?

Is it possible to walk to Herradura or should I get a taxi. Plus, how much should I expect to pay for an indie?You are walking maybe 4 blocks to get to the Herradura from bridge #1. So, walk down Guererro with everyone else who is walking across until you get to the south end of the mercado (Campo) and turn left to walk 1 short block to Herradura or turn right and cross the street to go to Monterra.

The bars downtown always seemed to be gringo friendly. You should be safe. Don't even bother to answer or stop to talk with the "guides" and anyone else that offers to help you along with the way.

Any other questions post back and I or someone else here will try to answer. Also, post your travel plans as you may find others with similar plans who can help show you some of the places you might have been missing.

I will actually be down there the 2nd of June. Wanted to get an update from whoever has been there most recently.

What the word bird?? Anything I should be aware of my next trip there? I will only be able to make it on the 2nd, and even then, I am not 100% sure that I will even make it then, but am going to try if possible. Going down for family business, but will be leaving on the 3rd, maybe 4th.. but regardless, I will be busy every night except the 2nd, the night that I arrive.

Any info would be appreciated, and keep in mind, no need to lecture me on being safe over there.. I am a seasoned NL vet, but I would like to know what scene is happening or not happening.

I was down to boystown last Friday night. I went to Papagayo and it was pretty busy. Lots of girls and many gringos. I had fun with a 21y.o. flaquita whose name I've forgotten. They've recently completed remodeling the inside. It now has an 80s bar vibe compared to the 60s bar vibe it had before.

Beers were 20 pesos and I can't remember how much girl drinks were [maybe 50 pesos]. I did meet up with a girl that was very sexy and convinced me to visit her room upstairs. I think I paid 500 for the girl and 100 for the room. The room was clean, had AC -- unlike the club below which was hot. The girl is worth returning for, I only wish I would have got her number. It is located on Manuel Castañeda near Leandro Valle. I don't think I could find it on my own. I didn't realize it might not have been the safest place to visit until I was walking down the empty streets toward Guerrero to find a taxi to my hotel way across town at 3 in the morning.

I was in Nuevo Laredo Friday night on the way to Monterrey.

I arrived in Boystown around 2:30. It was pretty slow.

Danash has reopened. There was about a dozen girls there. I'm not sure if that is more or less than the way it used to be. I do know that the girls were not as attractive as last time I was there- early January. And the girl I was looking for-Gina is apparently no longer there.

It still has the high calibre girls (many of the girls looked familiar) and the prices appear to be the same. I got there about 2am and it didn't seem as busy as the before it closed after the owner got killed. Not as many customers or girls. I was too spent to see about time upstairs with a girl (and broke), but beers were $3/each and girl drinks were $10.

With the election this weekend, will bars in NL centro and boystown be open at all? Ley seca? The only story I could find was that in the DF, where the bars will close at midnight on Friday and open again on Monday at 3. I expected things to be closed on Sunday, but Saturday too?In the past, the bars always closed. I don't anticipate anything different. You can still find door girls, and many of the bar girls may become door girls for the weekend, or take advantage of the time off! I would not travel to BT, but if your already in NL, Why not.

The reason I ask is the last couple of time in Herradurra the mens room had a water/toilet overflow and god only knows what was breeding there. Also, later in the nights when I stopped in the only beer left at Herradurra seemed to be warm Modelo!!!

Hows the LE presence been lately? Haven't been keeping up with the news daily but are the drug wars (?) and shootings subsiding? I was always a little reluctant with the city bars after dark; preferred the relative safety of NLBT.

Most of the papers I've read show the dry weekend will start at 2am on Saturday morning in Tamaulipas and midnight in Nuevo León and Coahuila. Even though the Ley Seca (dry law) is up to the states/cities now, it appears only the touristy places in Baja are breaking the tradition of being dry on election weekend.

There are two corrupted policemen around Herradura and Montera. If they see you walking with a girl on the street, it could cost you $100 US and her 200 pesos. Specially on weekend nights. They are driving police pickup truck and looking for victims. Remember about it and you'll be OK.Interesting info, Zenactive! I'm not an expert on this, but it has long been my understanding that while prostitution is tolerated in the zona, it is not officially tolerated downtown. I use the word "tolerated" as there has been discussion in various forums through the years as to what is "legal" and what is not in Mexico and I do not want to go there.

I think some of the guys that have been here for a while will agree that back around 10 years ago, it was general practice for the guy and gal to leave the bar and walk SEPARATELY for the short walk to the hotel. Back then, shakedowns were perhaps more common and the police did seem to sometimes try to "enforce" no prostitution in downtown, as in attempt to collect the "fine."

The above said, it has been a very long time since I have seen any of the girls being concerned about getting caught walking with a gringo in downtown. Yes, there are foot police that patrol downtown and yes they know all the girls as well as what they are doing. But, that does not mean you might fall victim to the selective crap as reported by Zenactive.

About 2 years ago I had a cop frisk me trying to get a bribe as I was a gringo between Herradura and Montera with condoms in my pocket, so obviously up to no good. I basically told the cop to go screw himself as my wife and I recently had a baby and were using condoms. I then asked him why his badge was not in plain view and requested his badge number and name. Bottom line: Zenactive posted a very good warning. If you do not have much experience in Mexico or unsure of police operating in the area, tell the girl you will meet her inside the hotel.

Just to help clear up the 'downtown' stuff, I was in NL on a Sunday night in June.

Danash is open. I don't know about Club 123. They say quality of girls in Danash is still okay, but not as many as before the murders of the owners. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government on Friday said that effective January 8, 2007, citizens of the United States, Canada and Mexico must present a passport or one of two other approved documents to enter the United States by air or sea from the Western Hemisphere.

The plan, which must undergo public comment before going into effect, moves the deadline back a week from its original date of January 1 to accommodate holiday travel, the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement.

Under the rule, which implements part of a 2004 law and also covers Bermudans, the government will accept a Merchant Mariner Document, issued by the U.S. Coast Guard to merchant mariners, instead of a passport.

Some Canadian and U.S. citizens enrolled in a pilot program called NEXUS Air can also enter the country by presenting the identity card they have been issued that includes a computer chip with a photograph of their iris.

Previously, U.S. and Canadian citizens were allowed to enter the United States from the Western Hemisphere if they presented an identification document like a driver's license. Some Mexicans could also enter without a passport if they had a special border crossing card.

A second stage of the program will be implemented by January 1, 2008. It will require similar documents for citizens of the United States and Canadians, Mexicans and Bermudans arriving from the Western Hemisphere through U.S. land borders.

The program is separate from another effort to photograph and fingerprint visitors from most foreign countries when they enter the United States.

AlgonzoIt depends on your threshold for nice and clean as well as if you will be having guests over. I've been spoiled on my expense account so usually stay at the Hilton [somewhat girl friendly if you walk her up] or Crowne Plaza. The Hilton sometimes is as low as $50USD/nt which isn't so bad. The Camino Real is next door to the Hilton and usually is around $75-120+. These hotels are as safe as their equivalents in the US.

There are some hotels near bars like Heruda downtown that are about $25 but I can't vouch for them. Also, check some of older posts here as there are rooms available in Boystown for about that amount. I haven't stayed there because I'm spoiled and like AC and airline miles.

On the US side, you can walk from the Rio Grande Plaza which isn't too great a place and sometimes is way overpriced. If you are paying over $60 you're paying too much. It is mildewy and not the cleanest. It is on the river and about 10 minute walk from the bridge. The nicest place on the Texas side is La Posada but that will cost $$$. The upside is it is just on the other side of the bridge, the downside is it is way too expensive.

I usually leave my car in the parking lot on the Texas side and walk over and stay in Nuevo Laredo. Driving -- get insurance -- isn't that big of deal, just be careful. I've seen very expensive cars with Texas [and Nuevo Leon] tags parked in Boystown and at the nicer hotels. I usually walk over the bridge because if you hit the car lanes on either bridge at the wrong time, you will be waiting forever. Plus CBP likes to look through your car and gives you more hassles than if you just walk over the bridge. The lot on the Texas side is relatively safe. I've even left my rig over there a few days while going down to Monterrey.

Others can chime in on the budget options downtown and at Boystown better than I can.

well, i'm back. boys town sucked on a wednesday. first, i cross the bridge, hop into a taxi off we went. when we came to the zone, i told the driver to circle around to see what was there before i get out and start walking. nothing , i mean nothing was open except for less than 10 door girls.

I think I would be too scared to go by myself at night. I will try Herruda in downtown though. Sounds like fun. ThanksNah. If you stay on the main streets it is pretty safe. I don't venture past Danash on the far side. For the most part, the street between Papagauyo and Danash is about as safe as on the Texas side of the border. Most of the people walking down the street are Americans. Just like in any other place, you have to keep your wits about you. Don't get drunk and don't do anything stupid and you'll be fine. Be careful about the TV bar next to Danash [unless you're into that kind of thing... not that there's anything wrong with that, but the "girls" can be quite aggressive to get your attention].

Or maybe I should say it is really dangerous since the last time I was down there Papagauyos had way too many norteamericanos. I liked the 2+ girls for each guy ratios of the past.

Well, here it is guys, one week ago, I hopped in the Dodge, filled it up with gas, and headed west out of Houston. I have decided I like going through SA, better than 59 South.

1. Are ATMs fairly and easily available?

I don't plan on taking any credit cards but would like to have my debit/check card with me, is it recommended that I don't carry my wallet and only have the cash I'll need for that day?

Thanks in advance for all the answers and sorry for all the questions, just going by myself this time, which also happens to be my first.

1. Yes. There are banks on Reforma/Guerrero. Note your bank may charge you $5.00 for using a non-US bank. And that bank in Mexico might charge you too. I'll usually ask the driver to take me to a bank on the way to the hotel. There's an ATM just outside Boystown at a Pemex station that I wouldn't ever use. Obviously, Boystown is in a shitty neighborhood. At the banks on Reforma use the same cautions you'd use in a city in a bad neighborhood but the ones attached to the big banks are OK.

I only take my driver's license, the cash I plan on spending that night with me. The hotels I stay in have in-room safes and are pretty secure anyway so I leave my cards and other cash in the room. Everywhere in Boystown will take US dollars at a 10:1 exchange rate [some 11:1 and will have it posted but if a beer is 20 pesos in Nuevo Laredo, they'll take 2 USD.

2. Boystown is dead before nine. I rarely show up before 10pm.

3. I only watched the first minute or so of the first video but I think it is representative of Nuevo Laredo. The women range from 0-10 on the 10-point scale. The 10s are going to be expensive and at Danash [$100usd for 30 min]. There are some hot door girls. I'm constantly amazed by "there's something for everyone" vibe [as long as you prefer Latina].

4. See downthread a few posts. It is a choice. I stay at the higher-end places, but below you'll see some places for much less that are clean and safe. The US side can be expensive and dumpy.

5. The taxi drivers can get you to and from Boystown [$10 each way]. Some speak pretty good English and are happy to practice their English with you. Every cab driver knows Boystown. And if you know the name of your Hotel, they'll get you back home. And they all know "Bridge" [puente] to get you to the pedestrian bridge.

It is hit or miss with the girls. See the phrases section for sex requests. Most girls know their rates in English. The Mesero [waiter] in a bar can help translate. Some meseros know more English than others.

You will find Mexican guys in downtown NL and at Boystown that will want to be your guide. I had good luck the first time down there. But some are fleece artists that will try and nickel and dime you to death. Just say no gracias if they keep pestering you. If you're feeling nice, give them a buck to go away.

6. Papaguayo is the safest place in Boystown and should be your home base [the taxi will take you there unless you specify otherwise]. The are pretty girls and relatively cheap drinks and the rooms are clean. The meseros don't rip you off and all in all it is a good vibe.

Here's a map that's still pretty accurate except a lot of places are closed [123, Cosa and Dragon Azul were closed when I was there last week].

Avoid the Locals only places and the TV bars are still TV bars. I usually stick to the block of front street, street 1, back street, street 2, and back down front street. I've never ventured farther -- nor have a needed to.

7. Danash will remind you of an American strip club complete with US prices [$3 beers, $10 girl drinks]. You can get a lot more mileage at Danash. Depends on the girl on how frisky she'll get. Some just want to sit on your lap and get her ficha from the girl drinks she's order.

Cosa and Dragon Azul also have dancers but a) were closed the last time I was there and b) the girls just aren't that great. 123 had some decent dancers but it has been closed for quite a while.

8. Some Meseros will try to rip you off but the guys at Papaguayo and Danash are pretty trustworthy. Street girls will sometimes start adding fees for things you thought were included. Make sure you have all of that sorted out before you get into her bed. The girls at Danash and Papaguayo usually keep to their rates for full service and will not expect a tip.

You can read stories about shakedowns from cops but I haven't ever had a problem. If anything they've been helpful.

9. Unless you look "foreign" DHS guy might not even ask for a ID. A driver's license or a passport is all you should need. I say if you look foreign since friends of Latino or Asian persuasion have been required to give a passport or if you don't have one a Driver's License and other proof of citizenship like a voter registration card or birth certificate.

10. If you get to Nuevo Laredo before 8 or 9 you'll see several pharmacies which will sell you Viagra [about $12USD each on average] without a prescription. Most of the pharmacies take credit cards. A few guys on the street will ask you if you need medicine and want to take you to a doctor for a prescription. That's not needed. You'll get the medicine in a sealed box with a blister pack inside and a Pfizer holographic sticker. Some enterprising pharmacists might try and sell you generic product or other aids. I just say no to that.

If you get there later, there's a pharmacy on Lopez de Lara [the street from the bridge to Boystown] called Farmacia Calderon that is open 24 hours a day. There's also a pharmacy in the downtown area a few blocks back open late. You can just as the taxi driver to stop at a pharmacy [farmacia] on the way to boystown. He'll know the ones open when you're there and they all sell Viagra.

11. Just last weekend Continental had a $99 round trip form IAH to Laredo TX, but it was a last minute special -- not announced until 3 days before the weekend -- and you have to travel home on Monday. Other times air can be over $1000!

Another option if you fly and have a few days is check into getting a cheap flight to Monterrey and check out the scene downthere [check the Monterrey forum here and make friends with Carlos and get his maps.]. A first class or executive class bus from Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo is about $20 each direction [about 2 hour bus ride]. More comfort than Greyhound. There's stuff to do in the daytime in Monterrey.

12. I usually don't get home until after 4am and spend the days sleeping. I have no idea about the sites on either side of the border. On the Mexico side it isn't much more. When I am up in the daytime, i'll go downtown and drink beer at a bar on Guerrro and people watch.

Going by yourself doesn't have to be a problem. For the most part the people you meet will be nice and helpful. Just keep your wits about you. Be respectful. Have fun. Read the older posts here for what to expect.

I am hearing much of the same of what is said in the article. It is weird because that the new type of illegal immigrants in Laredo are people who actually have money, they are leaving for fear of kidnappings.

I have never seen violence in NL, but it is there, it is real, but many people are not talking about it.

The part I was most concerned about in the LMTimes article was the robbery at the hotel of 25 men working for a Texas-based company.

The statement from the ambassador adds something the LMTimes/AP article didn't:

Two days ago in a hotel in Nuevo Laredo, armed men kidnapped 25 individuals who were going to work for a Texas-based company, assaulting and threatening to kill them, apparently mistaking them for a rival drug gang.

The "apparently mistaking me for a rival drug gang" line changes things a little. Before seeing that, I imagined a bunch of gringos in their khaki Dockers and polo shirts. Still it shows the drug war can spill into the civilian areas.

It still is very dangerous. People visiting NL should pay attention and not get distracted, drunk or high and lose a sense of your surroundings. Stay on the beaten path. Try to blend in even if you're taller and whiter than everyone around you. Don't go doing something stupid and you'll be fine. I usually dress down and don't wear any jewelry or show that I have any money. There's no reason to dress up or show off your money in Nuevo Laredo. The girls are a sure thing as long as you have enough for their time and attention. No reason to draw attention to yourself.

I only take my driver's license, the cash I plan on spending that night with me. The hotels I stay in have in-room safes and are pretty secure anyway so I leave my cards and other cash in the room. Everywhere in Boystown will take US dollars at a 10:1 exchange rate [some 11:1 and will have it posted but if a beer is 20 pesos in Nuevo Laredo, they'll take 2 USD.Probably what I'll end up doing.

6. Papaguayo is the safest place in Boystown and should be your home base [the taxi will take you there unless you specify otherwise]. The are pretty girls and relatively cheap drinks and the rooms are clean. The meseros don't rip you off and all in all it is a good vibe.

Here's a map that's still pretty accurate except a lot of places are closed [123, Cosa and Dragon Azul were closed when I was there last week].

Avoid the Locals only places and the TV bars are still TV bars. I usually stick to the block of front street, street 1, back street, street 2, and back down front street. I've never ventured farther -- nor have a needed to.

7. Danash will remind you of an American strip club complete with US prices [$3 beers, $10 girl drinks]. You can get a lot more mileage at Danash. Depends on the girl on how frisky she'll get. Some just want to sit on your lap and get her ficha from the girl drinks she's order.

10. If you get to Nuevo Laredo before 8 or 9 you'll see several pharmacies which will sell you Viagra [about $12USD each on average] without a prescription. Most of the pharmacies take credit cards. A few guys on the street will ask you if you need medicine and want to take you to a doctor for a prescription. That's not needed. You'll get the medicine in a sealed box with a blister pack inside and a Pfizer holographic sticker. Some enterprising pharmacists might try and sell you generic product or other aids. I just say no to that.

If you get there later, there's a pharmacy on Lopez de Lara [the street from the bridge to Boystown] called Farmacia Calderon that is open 24 hours a day. There's also a pharmacy in the downtown area a few blocks back open late. You can just as the taxi driver to stop at a pharmacy [farmacia] on the way to boystown. He'll know the ones open when you're there and they all sell Viagra.And forgive my ignorance, but are brand named condoms sold at these pharmacies, or should I just end up purchasing some on this side of the border before I make the trip?

The only difference is the words are in Spanish. I haven't priced them, but many items in Mexico are a little more expensive [and the tax is higher]. The best bet is to hit stores on the Texas side before you cross the bridge. At the main bars on BT, the girls will have condoms and Trojan is the most popular brand. But it is good to have extras if needed.

I agree 100% with this poster. I have gotten an hour w/o any knock. Of course it does not hurt to tip the towel lady a buck or two, and being a familiar face helps too. Would like to know more info about the party at NLBT in October, maybe I can come by a while that night. I would love to meet you guys. I am from Houston and go to NL about twice a month. I've been going about 4 years now and currently spend most of my time downtown. Only get out to BT about once every 3 mo. I seem to spend a lot less down town and have as much fun.

I either stay at the Fiesta Hotel which is a good hotel. Clean, ac, safe, 410 pesos. You can take as many girls as you want in. I usually have a threesome once every other mo. or so and have no problems with two girls in my room.

I also stay at the Matamoros Hotel which is 330 pesos but has central air which is not as cool in the summer but is clean and a good place also. Both these are 1 block from all the activity downtown and easy access!

The best bar downtown by 100 to 1 is the Monterra Bar. It is a downstairs bar but is the busiest bar around. It usually gets active starting around 3:30 or so. By 7 - 8 somenights it is already packed. Of course it has good nights and bad just like anywhere but there are some great girls there, also some dogs. Herradura is a good bar after 9. It is probably the second best place. The third bar downtown is El Rey. Usually good after 8-9 . Best nights are Thur,Fri,Sat. Some Sun.

If you have never been there here is how it works. One way: buy a girl a drink $3 - $3.50 and she will sit with you, talk with you, dance with you. But they order drinks about every 10 - 15 min. So watch yourself. They are there to have a good time and will not rip you off. Another way, you can find a girl and ask her to dance and give her $1. That's all. Most all the girls will go to the motel with you for about $50, but at times you can get them down to $30, or $40. They will spend up to an hour with you and have a great time.

There is another bar called Jerocho's (excuse spelling) but it is never busy until 12 or after.

Then if your still in a party mood when they close at 3:30 -4:30 everyone goes to another bar a few blocks away called Arizona. It's open until 8 or so.

Then the downtown bars open back at 11a.m.

I just got back last Sun. I go usually every other weekend, Fri-Sat. I usually drive but have taken the bus. The bus is great if you don't want to drive back. The ticket was $58 round trip from Houston and it cost me about $35 in gas each way so it it cheeper. But you just have to weight the differences.
I like to have my car incase I go pick up a senorita or go out to eat or to BT.

Of course there is the cost of parking downtown Houston for my car. About $25 for that.

If any of you guys want to hook up sometime downtown NL let me know and we'll drink a few.

I will be going back probably Fri-Sat Sept 22-23.

Anyway, I can explain this a little. If you take the Greyhound, ask them how much a round trip ticket is from Houston, to Nuevo Laredo. If you wait to buy your ticket in Laredo, to continue on into Nuevo Laredo, it cost $7, one way Laredo to Nuevo Laredo. You would probably save money if you specified Nuevo Laredo, when you bought your ticket in Houston.
Now you're probably wondering, what should you do on this. I'll explain.
When you ride the bus Houston to Laredo, you'll arrive at the main bus station in Laredo. If you choose, you can then walk about 7 blocks to bridge #1, and walk across this bridge into NL. You can then walk down the main street, Guerro, about 6 blocks, and you'll see a cross street named Haldalgo. This is where those bars are that Cumbianow is talking about. If you turn right on Haldago, you have that Monterra bar where you walk down into a basement. That's where the bar is, in a basement. If you turn left on Haldalgo, you walk down a couple of blocks, and you have the Herradura Club. I think it's now callled the Horseshoe bar. Across Haldago Street is Herochos, or however it's spelled. It starts banging around midnight. You would be touring the downtown bars Cumbianow is talking about. So where is boystown? You are quite aways away from boystown. You could take a $10 cab ride to get to BT from this downtown area.
So what about riding the Greyhound to NL? Well, that puts you very close to BT, but a long ways away from these downtown clubs. question for cumbianow. do you ever have any problems with the nuevo laredo police fucking with you, as you walk from one bar to the next?it's been quite a while since i have had any occuraces. the last time a cop stopped me was about 6 mo. ago and i had to pay him $20. i've only been stoped about 3 -4- times in the past 4 years. once driving to boy's town a cop stopped me and said i ran a stop sign and made me give in $30. another time a cop stopped me leaving bt saying i was speeding and made me give him $40 and once downtown a cop stopped me walking up the street and said he saw me peeing in the street and made me give him $20 and then once a cop stopped me downtown, frisked me and simply told me to give him $30 or i'd go to jail. but it's been over 6-7 mo. since i have had any trouble.

i can tell you that it seems that most of the trouble you may have will happen after midnight. usually the cops are nice and sociable until after 12.

then it's best advice to watch yourself. if i am leaving monterra or herradura i play it safe. i step out the door, and look around and if i happen to see a police truck driving down the street i simply wait until they pass to avoid any possible confratation. i do know that the past 4 weeks for some reason the police have gotten worse downtown and all over. it's best , after 12, not to get in a position, around them if possible. i try to stay in a crowd and with others and if i pass a police i never look him in the face, because since i am a gringo, i am sure he is looking at me and hoping i look at him to give him cause to stop me.

there seems to be one particular cop downtown that drives in a truck, he is sort of square headed (physically) , that seems to be causing most trouble for people.

if your cautious, you can have a great time and stay safe. of course i always keep a little cash in my shoe just in case of such immergency.\\

but no problems in 6 or 7 month. "knock on wood"

Just for those planning a trip to BTNL.

Don't worry about your dress.

All you need is green $$.

I never dress nice.

I wear bluejeans, slouchy t-shirt, tennis shoes , or cutoffs and t-shirt.

The only reason I even considered going to Laredo instead of straight to NL is when I was checking the schedules from Houston, everything direct to NL was at least a 9 hour trip, while it was easy to find a 6 hour commute to Laredo.

I was hoping to have some form of transportation such as a cab to be able to drive me over the border an into a motel/hotel.

But now that you mention there is a $7 ticket to NL from Laredo, I may end up doing that.

As far as the Motels go, you would not need to worry about making reservations, not the ones Cumbianow is talking about anyway. My personal favorite is Hotel Fiesta. When walking south on Gurerro, make a left at Pino Suarez, Fiesta will be one block ahead on the left. The street you are on now is Ocampo, and The Herradura (which is spanish for Horseshoe JD) is one block back north on Ocampo. I'm sorry I have never been to any of the other DT bars Cumbianow speaks of.

WE, as veteran Mexico mongers, never mind taking newbies, sometimes that is more fun than all the fuckin'.

And just go ahead an get off the bus in Laredo, it is a very short walk to the bridge, and much safer than the walk to anywhere from the bus station in NL. Then you can spend a little time in Downtown, and have a couple of beers, even if just in the tourist open bars on the left, get your bearings,then grab a cab to BT, it will be 10 dollars, don't even mess with trying to haggle, the onlyway to save any money, is to try and find another monger to split the ride, funny they don't charge extra for more riders.

If you guys end up having another party/gathering towards the end of the year, or early next year, I'll definantly join in.

Looking at my typical work schedule(Fridays) for the next couple of weeks, and considering the length of the bus trip, I should be arriving in Laredo anywhere from 2 to 4 in the morning whenever I do go.

And staying for a few days, I'll have a carry-on/backpack with some additional clothes I'd want to drop off at a motel which is the main reason I'll head first to either of the motels you and Cumbianow mentioned.

For mongers coming to Laredo, if you want to check out McAllen/Reynosa while you're down here, and don't want to drive in your car, you can ride the bus. Below is a report on how to do it.

Uhm, I'm looking over my upcoming trip from Laredo to McAllen today. I'll take the 3:15 pm Valley transit bus Laredo to McAllen. It takes 3 hours and 15 minutes to get to McAllen. The bus will be making stops in San Ygnacio, Zapata, Roma, Rio Grande City, Mission, and then McAllen. I'll arrive in McAllen at 6:35 pm.
My point for mentioning these stops is I remember that report from Beavis concerning his trip to Roma. Uhm....
Now when I return to Laredo, from McAllen, I'll have to catch the 10 am schedule Valley Transit bus McAllen to Laredo. I'll arrive back in Laredo at 1:15pm. The bus makes the same stops coming back. Uhm...., only one bus per day, direct Laredo to McAllen, and back. That sucks. If I miss the fuckin bus, then I have to catch a different bus to San Antonio, which turns a 3 hour trip into a 7 hour trip. That sucks.
Okay, for mongers coming to Laredo, If you want to check out McAllen, from Laredo, and don't want to drive, ride the Valley Transit bus. Remember only one bus per day. It leaves Laredo at 3:15 pm. It's a 3 hour and 15 minute ride to McAllen.
You'll have to get your ass up early the next day in McAllen to ride the !0 AM Valley transit back to Laredo. You'll be "on your ass" tired by the time you get back to Laredo. But it's an option.
I'm looking forward to my trip today. It should be interesting. I'll be thinking about Beavis's report when the bus stops in Roma.

Any recommendations on restaurants?I have a bulletproof stomach so I just follow my gut in NL just like other foreign cities -- look for where the locals go. If a place is packed at lunchtime it probably is good. If it is too crowded circle back later. If you stomach is more sensitive, there are a ton of US-styled fast food. Every brand but Taco Bell.

so i ended up going this past friday and saturday.

i took the greyhound to laredo, got off and was fortunate enough to have someone speak english who was also going over to nl.

it's about 7 blocks straight down until you reach the border; pay 50 cents to get through the toll.

i recommend doing this as it's only a couple of minutes until you're at the border, and you won't have to wait for the entire bus to be checked at the border.
now, depending on what time you arrive will factor into what happens next, at least from what i experienced because i did go back an forth between laredo and nl a couple of times.

if you arrive in nl late night/early morning, there will probably be a taxi easily available and waiting for people.

if you arrive mid-day, early in the evening, expect a huge cluster fuck; what i recommend doing is crossing over to the left side of the 4-way intersection and waiting for a taxi to flag down. what ever you do, don't be passive in attempting to get a taxi, but don't be rude either.

i stayed at hotel fiesta which is probably 7-9 blocks(?) away from the border; you can easily make the walk if it's during the day when it's safe. otherwise, it's 5 dollars.
you go straight until you hit pino sueraz(spelling?), make a left, and you'll see it on your right hand side.

$38 per night, ac, cable tv, seems safe, hot water.

from hotel fiesta, there are a few cafes/restaurants, as well as several stands that sell food and drinks within a couple blocks in each direction.

i even went against common sense and each time would go around the corner where locals would be hanging out to get something to eat before going to sleep.

no trouble there, i guess i was lucky.

and if you're really lucky, you may get a cab driver who'll make a simple trip more exciting than a roller coaster.

speeding along thin roads, cars on either side, ignoring stop signs. it was like a car chase scene in a movie, but only in real life.

i've been to many places around the world; several countries in africa and europe, india, china, a couple asian countries, etc. and i don't really think nl is any different from these places.

i can honestly say i've been to places i wouldn't send my relatives to even if they had a private army with them 24/7 so nl didn't seem so bad.

the only rude people i encountered were out of town visitors that were either naturally angry people, or had a temporary feeling of superiority due to them being in a place where their currency can be spread much further.

all in all, good fun and i'll probably try to return in the early part of 2007 and try to get some friends to join in.

I would suggest the next time, if you are looking for some real fun, try an all nighter. You could probably get it for anywhere between 130 - 200 but should avoid paying more then that. If you pay less, that is a good time to tip depending on service. The thing, from my own personal experience is that hanging out and talking. For example, if you end up going from BT's and heading out to a downtown motel/hotel. It is fun, because after fucking and getting hungry, they will show you some really good places to eat, and always get everything cheaper and make sure you dont get riped off by anyone. Then you go back tot he hotel and fuck some more, but it always gets better by the hour.

Anyways, just something to think about, because I take a long time to get my nut off, sometimes. And do enjoy the company sometimes, depends how eager I am to get laid. Hehhe. Then I nut like it was the first time, then gone in 60 seconds.. =)

I have only used a taxi once, from airport to bridge, charge was $18, about a year ago.
Best is to reserve a smalll car, is cheaper and easier than $35 trip each way, just leave car at city lot by bridge.

I have taken ladies back to the Hilton Garden Plaza, I got some looks from the front desk that this was not very well looked upon. The ladies were always dreesed discreetly jeans and blouse. Even in their guest service books in the rooms, is has a little blurb about being able to ask you to leave for something like unappropriate conduct of guest.

I have used the Fiesta Inn with no problems at all, but it is a little spendy. 75-90 night. However the rooms are really nice and clean, big king size bed and they leave bottle water in the room a small one for free and a bigger one for purchase.

I have used a couple of the ones downtown, can't remember names but never had a problem. Like someone said downtown if you get hungry you can go out. However the 30 dollars you save is not worth it..

The rooms rent in 6 hour blocks, so for all night, you'd pay 12 or 18 hours, so it could get expensive. Perhaps they offer a discount for multiple blocks, it would make sense since they would not have to clean the room every 6 hours, but I don't know that.

After check-in, drove to boys town about 8:30 (a little early). after the policia hassled us a bit, we parked, had a few tacos at the 1st taco stand (they were great!), and then began walking through. There were probably only 10 other guys there looking, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. After a bit I ducked into one of the rooms with "Brenda" for $25. She was good, but refused to take her top off until I paid another 5. started out on top, and she was pretty energetic and smiled a lot. Switched to doggie and finished. My friend had already negotiated mith Marisol to come back to the room all night - had to pay $25 house fees to the bar she worked in (corner of second street and last street). We walked around a little more, and as I didn't find what I wanted. We went to the central district horseshoe bar and others until I found a girl I liked about 30 minutes (no house fees there), and left. After about two blocks, we get stopped by the policia. I speak NO spanish, bt relyed on my friend who does speak a little. It's been a while, but I'm heading back to NL on 10-28 from Houston and would appreciate some recent info.

I stayed in NL on my way to Monterrey Sunday night. I went to the Herradura about 9pm and didn't see anything I liked. I walked down to the basement bar Monterra? and it was crowded. The only ladies that interested me were already with some gentlemen. The others were a little to large for my tastes. I walked around the park and back to the Herredura. Sat for a drink and looked around. Still didn't see anything so I called it a night.
Stayed at the Hotel Fiesta. $38us or 410pesos either way. AC worked, quiet, clean room even if a little worn. I have stayed at the Meson Del Ray (the one across from the main park on Guerrero ave) and prefer the Fiesta over it. About the same room for $10 cheaper.
On Tuesday when I got back from Monterrey, as I was leaving the Bus Station, two young men offered me a taxi in an unmarked car. They were parked right outside the main door of the bus station. The ride to the bridge is only $5 so they weren't going to save me any money so I kept walking. I got a marked cab and asked the driver about them. He said they would have robbed me. So, lesson learned. Thought I would pass it on.

Thanks. I hope to see some of you guys Sat.I've have not taken a girl to the Hilton, but have stayed there many times and have seen many familiar faces from Boystown. The key is discretion. Make the reservation for 2 and don't show PDA while going through the lobby. The girl should dress in regular clothes and not like a hooker. The hotel gets a lot of families from interior Mexico so you should show the same respect you would if you were staying in a similar hotel in your hometown. The guys working at night will know what is up, they just don't want you creating a scene when they are trying to check in a family. Another type of customer I see in the hotel are Christian youth missionaries from the US. They are usually in bed early though. Sometimes there are quince años parties and wedding receptions going on during the day. Again, when you're there with a girl, discretion. They'd rather kick your ass out than lose the catering and business meeting revenue.

It is also important to remind your friend this is a Hilton Garden Inn, not a Hilton Hotel [if it were it would be $200/nt]. The Hilton Garden is in the mid-priced hotels in the Hilton family and is exactly like the counterparts in the US. It is clean and the rooms are comfortable and the food isn't too bad in the restaurant. For Nuevo Laredo, it is about as good as it gets.

The hotel is on the corner of Lopez de Lara and Reforma and maybe 7 or so Km from bridge #1 and downtown. Taking an immediate right onto Lopez de Lara is faster than trying to go through the traffic on Guerrero before it turns to Reforma.

The parking is safe and they have security watching overnight. A cab ride is about $7 to/from downtown. As always, the gringo fee to Boystown is $10 even though it is closer. There is no taxi stand at the hotel, but if you ask at the front desk they can call a taxi and it usually gets there in about 5 minutes.

The only downside to parking on the Mexico side is the wait time to get back into the US. If you choose the wrong time, it can take hours waiting on one of the bridges to clear though US BPE. I keep meaning to try the third bridge that connects with the Camino Colombia toll road [not the trucks only one, but the other one] to see if that is faster. But usually I'll park on the US side and walk since that means I'll get back into the States in minutes and on my way home sooner.

If you have never been there or in Mexico I personally would recommend you walk across the bridge and take a taxi. There are listing put up of taxi charges. But at night they do not go by them.

I think the normal charge is $5 around town. A little further and they charge $8. But don't be surprised if they ask you for $10. I would negociate with them or say no thanks and I'll find another taxi. Then they might say ok, $5.

The Hilton is not more than 5 min. straight south past the bridge. They should take you there for $5, but may ask more.

I have had a blast at BT in recent years and found some particularly lovely young ones at Tamuku -- but have been scared away for over a year by the drug cartel wars. What spooked me was a buddy who lives in Laredo and is of Mexican heritage (several generations in US, but quite fluent). There are motels, by these clubs, girls can take you to for $10. Read all my previous post and you can get a lot of info.

Also there are a lot of post about BT from the mongers out there that are great also. Best hotel downtown by clubs to spend night, Fiesta $38, Matamorus $30. Clean, safe, girl friendly. Just don't walk with a girl down the street and you should be ok. If you take a girl to the motel, tell her where to meet you and go by yourself. Let her follow you a couple of min. later.

Got to stop through Laredo on my way to McAllen, and decided to check out BT. Since I had my entire tractor-trailer with me I decided to go with one of the shuttle services that operate from the Laredo truckstops. Left Saturday with "Kenny", and four other horny truckers at around 1900. He charges $25 to ride inside his truck, and twenty if the night is busy and you have to ride in the bed of the pick-up. Got to BT and parked outside of the Shamrock. I went in drank one beer ($2) and left. There seemed to be around 4 to 6 girls there at 1915, but I only considered 2 fuckable. I was down last Friday night. Planned to be back Saturday but did not care to return.

Mexican Border cops are a hassle. .Got to BE a little early and was hassled again to get in.

The action and quality of he girls is way down from years past. There are more pretty door girls than I have seen in the past. They have poor attitudes and not much better on the service.

Michael, "Mike" is still working in Papas. Good guy to know if you do not speak the language. He is probably the shortest waiter there, has a thin mustash.

Guess I just remember the days before the drug wars. It is just not fun anymore.

Packed up and went to El Paso, Juraz. Much better town for our hobby. Some good looking girls and prices are about 50% of N.L. and better than 50% lower than Acuna. It is a long way for East cost guys to go though. Have not been stopped or hassled by a cop yet. Easily checked through the border, both ways with the proper ID.

I hung around the previously mentioned meeting place Friday night and did not connect with any poster on the board. I did make friends with a trucker from Florida thought. He was a nice guy, e toured the clubs and talked for quite some time.

The girls I have met here here in Juarez have a much better attitude.

There are "NO SAFES" in the room.

I have left money in my bag and money under my mattress.

Never had a problem or heard of anyone who had a problem.

I feel very safe there, of course I have stayed there probably 1000 nights in my time.

The people are friendly and cautious.

You have the option to keep your room key with you or leave it at the front desk.

There is also another hotel called Matamoros Hotel around the corner of La Monterry Bar. It is $310 pesos. It is as nice, rooms are a little smaller, central air/heat. But also very safe there also. It is a bit more secluded feeling. They charge a $5 room key fee but give it back when you leave.

I usually stay there in the winter because it is $10 less and just as safe, clean, girl friendly. I always stay at Fiesta in the summer because of the great AC.

I have also never heard of any problems there. They keep a close eye also.
They do not have a safe either, that I know of.

I trust the motel, I just don't always trust the girl I'm with .he he

They have a sign that says Matamoros Hotel if you look up.

You walk in and up the stairs and the office is on the right.

I think you will like this place. If it had great AC I would probably stay there all the time. They will actually show you a room before you rent it.

$330 pesos and a $50 pesos key deposit.

YankeeYou'll probably get varying opinions on this, but heck, that is why we are all here. If you do your research and plan ahead of time, I do not see a problem for a gringo going across the bridge to a downtown bar or to BT alone his first time.

Use common sense, walk in crowds, don't get too drunk and stay away from anyone using drugs. The turf battle is still there, but it will not affect you if you follow the instructions everyone will give you here.

I would not be concerned about a local getting upset of you are talking to a non-pro Mexicana. In all of my years, I had maybe one night I thought maybe a guy had a problem with me in a bar just by the way he was looking at me. I avoided eye contact, continued to enjoy myself and he quickly lost any interest he might have had. Most of the bars you will enter are very gringo friendly.

If you do decide to spend the night, I would suggest one of the name brand hotels your first night at BT. Something like Colon Plaza or the City Express on the way to BT. Cost would be around $50 to $70 per night. After you get your feet wet you can explore other places and in a short time you'll have the whole place wired.

Contrary to popular belief, prostitution IS illegal in Mexico -- except within La Zona de Tolerancia (The Tolerance Zone). So, the only reason you got hassled was for the girl at the bar (located downtown and not in La Zona). Once they had you for that, the police made no distinction and rousted you for both girls (eventhough the one picked up in La Zona was legit). Factoring in the cop cost of 400 pesos, your girl came out about the same as his (in fact, he should have charged you the $20 for translating and because his girl was legit). Either way, you both got great prices for all-nighters so GOOD job! Being in a Taxi might have helped (as you mention) simply because the Taxi cost seems to include some 'mordida' to the cops. First, I don't know your criteria for great knockers and would hate to disappoint. Find Tila Tequila on the Internet and if you like her then you should be able to spot this girl because she looks like her. Finding her is one thing but getting to mess with her knockers at all is another story. She only let me handle them after about 6 months of repeat visits. Sucking on them only happened after knowing her 2 years. Don't think money guarantees you anything either. Lots of information on the board regarding both subjects.

First, some notes on hotels. Very rarely can the girls cross over to the US, so we are talking about hotels in Mexico. For pricier fare, I have been to Fiesta Inn and Tres Caminos. Since it is owned by the owner of Papagayos, Tres Caminos is more girl friendly. Fiesta Inn is not too bad but not as friendly as Tres Caminos. For lower prices, Motel Pedregal, Hotel Villa Real and Hotel Cesar Palace are all girl-friendly. My favorite (as noted in prior posts) is Hotel Cesar Palace. The rooms cost $40, they are clean, room service is available, an Oxxo is walking distance and the hotel is conveniently located (5 minutes and with two routes) to La Zona.

Next, asking a girl out of the club. To begin with, I have boycotted Danash from day one because I blame the club for the exagerated prices in La Zona (with all the craziness going on, the prices should go down not up). So, I can only comment on Papas (but the process should be the same regardless). As you discuss room prices, you ask if the girl is available to go out of the club ("cuanto para ir de salida", how much to go out). Don't be suprised if they give you some outrageous price like $300. This could be for several reasons (she is ultra-young/fine and somebody actually pays that price or she suspects you might be a mass murderer and rather than say no go she gives a crazy price). I get better prices from girls I have seen regularly (either going to the room or buying them drinks). You should shoot for $160 or $200 max. Next, she will bring up the "sala" or price for the bar (somewhere around $40 to $50). I have had luck with the claim that all I have is $200 total.

Additional details: The "sala" is paid up front and the rest later. Before handing over the "sala", make sure you establish the conditions of the all-nighter. First, how do you define "all night"? I prefer to get a girl around 10pm and have her stay until noon or later the next day. Many girls prefer you leave later (so they can get some rounds in with other guys before you go) or insist on coming back around 3am (to catch any stragglers or go out dancing with their boyfriends). Next question, how many rounds? I prefer as many nuts as I can manage but some girls (especially the knock outs only want to give you two rounds). Another important question, when do they get paid? Most of us prefer after services rendered but some of them insist on once they arrive at the hotel. I don't like having these discussions after paying the "sala" and when I am horney as hell ready to get some, so I make sure I get this established BEFORE I hand over the "sala" money. You might still have discussions later but at least you did your best to avoid them.
